- 0:12How life, friends. It's shown here and yes, it is a
- 0:16Friday. It is the 15th of March.
- 0:20Well done friend, well done. You have made it to the end of
- 0:23another week and here we are on the precipice of the weekend
- 0:26with nothing left to do. Well, actually everything left
- 0:30to do, we've got to get through Friday.
- 0:31Unless, unless you are already through it then well done to
- 0:34you. But I'm a morning person, so
- 0:37this is the start of the day for me and we are going to read this
- 0:41Psalm together. We are going to enjoy it because
- 0:44this sum is not just a sum of praise and trust in God.
- 0:49But this is actually a little bit of a model for how we can
- 0:53use scripture, because we're going to be reading Psalm 108.
- 0:56And if you have a freakishly good memory, you are going to
- 1:00notice that the first half of this sum is very similar to
- 1:04Psalm 57, and the second half of the Sam is very similar to a
- 1:08part of Psalm 60, except the names of the nations have been
- 1:12changed to reflect the present struggle that the Psalmist is
- 1:16living through. So this shows us that not just
- 1:20you and me, but even the Samus themselves used other Psalms as
- 1:25they were praying, as they were singing songs to their God.
- 1:29So here we have a best of Sam, if you like.
- 1:32You know, we we reach Sam's 107 and they think, yeah, let's
- 1:35let's put a couple of these together and and pray these
- 1:38psalms that we've already prayed, but pray them into a new
- 1:41space and make a new song from the familiar ones.
- 1:47So how wonderful for us to know that we can use these Psalms.
- 1:51We can cry them out for our situations, For the context of
- 1:54our daily struggles, we can swap out Felicia for parking
- 2:00inspectors or whatever it is that that makes your life
- 2:05tricky. I hope it's not parking
- 2:06inspectors. And if you are a parking
- 2:08inspector listening to this, God bless your friend.
- 2:10We need you doing your job as well.
- 2:13All right, enough from me. Let us share this arm together.
- 2:17This is a song. A Psalm of David.
- 2:20Psalm 108. My heart is confident in you.
- 2:34Oh God. No wonder I can sing your
- 2:37praises with all my heart. Wake up liar and harp.
- 2:42I will wake the dawn with my song.
- 2:45I will thank you, Lord, among all the people.
- 2:49I will sing your praises among the nations.
- 2:53For your unfailing love is higher than the heavens.
- 2:57Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
- 3:01Be exalted, oh God, above the highest heavens.
- 3:05May your glory shine over all the earth.
- 3:10Now rescue your beloved people, answer and save us by your
- 3:14power. God has promised that by His
- 3:18Holiness I will divide up Shechem with joy I will measure
- 3:24out the valley of Succoth. Gilead is mine and Manassa too.
- 3:30Ephraim, my helmet will produce my warriors, and Judah, my
- 3:35sceptre will produce my kings. But Moab, my wash basin will
- 3:42become my servant. I will wipe my feet on Edom and
- 3:47shout triumph over Felicia, who will bring me into the fortified
- 3:53city, who will bring me victory over Edom.
- 3:56Have you rejected us? Oh God, will you no longer March
- 4:01with our enemies? I'll please help us against our
- 4:05enemies, for all human help is useless.
- 4:10With God's help, we will do mighty things, for He will
- 4:15trample down our foes. God, it's so easy to forget that
- 4:30the victory is already won. You have claimed the ultimate
- 4:34prize, and you have done that for our sake, so that we can
- 4:39stand before you, wholly and blameless, acceptable and loved,
- 4:46and no matter what challenge we find ourselves faced with, that
- 4:50you are our warrior, that in you we have our victory.
- 4:56And it's not by how clever we are or how hard we work.
- 5:00But our eternity, so much bigger than anything else we would ever
- 5:05be striving for, is held firm in your hands.
- 5:10Lord, Let that be the foundation of every challenge we face today
- 5:15and in this life, the knowledge that in you we are already
- 5:20victorious. You are a mighty wonderful God.
- 5:28We lift you up. We praise you.
- 5:31We worship you and we pray this in the name of Jesus.
- 5:37Amen.
