Former teacher Billy-James Charles Natanahira got censured by the Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal after being convicted for rioting and assaulting police with concrete pavers during the 2022 Parliament occupation. Though he took responsibility, apologized, and even canceled his teaching registration in 2023, his past misconduct—including a 2018 serious misconduct charge for threatening a student—made the tribunal’s decision unavoidable.
