- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Donald phased on, Joel Monique and DJ Daniel,
- 0:05Speaker 1: How are you exactly? How you doing? Are you? Bro?
- 0:09Speaker 1: I feel great? Listen. Our Super Bowl ad was a
- 0:12Speaker 1: huge hit. I think Donald, oh yeah, monster head. I
- 0:16Speaker 1: heard a lot of people watched it. It we um,
- 0:19Speaker 1: we feel great. Thank you everybody for watching it, and
- 0:22Speaker 1: uh listen. I think if you listen to this podcast,
- 0:25Speaker 1: you know that Donald phase On and I love musicals.
- 0:28Speaker 1: We love singing and dance, and I don't think either
- 0:30Speaker 1: one of us we were little kids ever thought we'd
- 0:32Speaker 1: get a chance to sing Greece with Travolta. So that
- 0:36Speaker 1: was little little little Zach and little Donald. We're smiling
- 0:39Speaker 1: ear to ear. Listen. I was nervous at first because
- 0:46Speaker 1: I watched the whole Super Bowl and the ad didn't
- 0:49Speaker 1: come on. You thought you thought you didn't weren't gonna
- 0:52Speaker 1: make the cut. I thought we like last year, I
- 0:54Speaker 1: was like, when is it gonna come on? And then
- 0:58Speaker 1: the two minute warning had the most insane placement. That
- 1:03Speaker 1: is amazing. I gotta tell you I don't normally watch
- 1:06Speaker 1: the game, um because I could honestly care less, but
- 1:11Speaker 1: this year I was because we had the spot and
- 1:13Speaker 1: I was. I just I actually watched the game and
- 1:16Speaker 1: it was fucking incredible, Like it made me want to
- 1:18Speaker 1: like get into football. That was such a good game.
- 1:21Speaker 1: If you want to get into football, I recommend fantasy football.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You not only would get into football, you will know
- 1:28Speaker 1: everything about football because you will have that feels like
- 1:31Speaker 1: double black diamond when I'm talking about a green circle.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Now into the right you get into the right fantasy
- 1:36Speaker 1: football thing. All you gotta do is just find a
- 1:38Speaker 1: couple of names. Everyone who's telling me that was a
- 1:41Speaker 1: particularly amazing game. Yeah, but you said if you want
- 1:43Speaker 1: to get into football, you want to watch it, right.
- 1:46Speaker 1: All I'm saying is I get it. Truly watched the
- 1:49Speaker 1: game and I was I got excited to it. It
- 1:52Speaker 1: was such a good sporting contest. And then at the
- 1:56Speaker 1: apex of the fucking thing tied at the end, just
- 2:00Speaker 1: what I was thinking, the same thing, like fucking did
- 2:01Speaker 1: they clutter and add what the fuck? And just at
- 2:04Speaker 1: the fucking apex of the ship they played our spot. Yeah,
- 2:07Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I got excited. All I heard was I
- 2:10Speaker 1: think I'm gonna get into football, and my fucking heart
- 2:14Speaker 1: skipped a beat. I could. I'm saying I could. I
- 2:17Speaker 1: think it was like this is about to level. I
- 2:21Speaker 1: like Mahomes. I'm a Kansas City fan. I think because
- 2:24Speaker 1: of Mahomes, I just like him. He's a good He's
- 2:27Speaker 1: the best football player in the National Football League. He
- 2:30Speaker 1: is the best best, He's the best football player. Yet also, again,
- 2:34Speaker 1: I have a question for you, and this is coming
- 2:36Speaker 1: from someone who knows nothing about the sport, Danil, do
- 2:38Speaker 1: you follow football? Not really, but well, do you follow football?
- 2:41Speaker 1: I'll follow Chicago football until it's clear we're not doing
- 2:45Speaker 1: anything this season, and then tap out. Okay, I know
- 2:48Speaker 1: very little, so you tapped out pretty early this year,
- 2:50Speaker 1: pretty freaking early. Donald felt to me, Donald, since you're
- 2:53Speaker 1: the football expert on the podcast, that the game was
- 2:56Speaker 1: moving so fast. My experience with football is that like
- 2:59Speaker 1: it feels slow and boring, like this just never stopped, right.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I think that's everybody's I think that's I think that's everybody's.
- 3:08Speaker 1: If you're not into football, or you did you don't
- 3:11Speaker 1: watch football, I think that's everybody's feeling of what football is.
- 3:15Speaker 1: But all you have to do is watch, like you said,
- 3:19Speaker 1: one good game like that, and you'll notice that there
- 3:22Speaker 1: are a lot of great games in football during the season,
- 3:25Speaker 1: there are a lot of games like that. It's rare
- 3:26Speaker 1: that it's the super Bowl where you get a good one,
- 3:29Speaker 1: But during the season, with all of the teams that
- 3:32Speaker 1: there are, you get games like this all the time
- 3:34Speaker 1: where it's you know, action packed. Now, my friend told me,
- 3:38Speaker 1: our friend Kerrie Brothers, who I was watching with, told
- 3:41Speaker 1: me that it's like Moneyball, the movie Moneyball, in a
- 3:44Speaker 1: sense that some of these young coaches are doing things
- 3:47Speaker 1: because of stats and numbers. That it's like going on
- 3:51Speaker 1: like going on fourth down. I don't I never again,
- 3:53Speaker 1: I don't watch much football, but I always thought no
- 3:55Speaker 1: one went on fourth down and they were on fourth
- 3:57Speaker 1: down like crazy. Now it's all analytics and like football
- 4:00Speaker 1: is a great analytical sport because you can play it
- 4:03Speaker 1: through and that's what fantasy football is. You're playing numbers,
- 4:06Speaker 1: you know what I mean, and what you think. You
- 4:08Speaker 1: know players will do based on what they've done in
- 4:11Speaker 1: the past. And that's how coaches play football too, you
- 4:15Speaker 1: know what I mean, you have you know, players play
- 4:20Speaker 1: it with their heart, blood, sweat and tears and stuff
- 4:22Speaker 1: like that. Coaches who don't play football are playing the
- 4:25Speaker 1: numbers and who they think has the best odds of
- 4:28Speaker 1: beating this and what plays have the best odd of
- 4:31Speaker 1: you know, should we be in a nickel? Should we
- 4:33Speaker 1: be in a dime? You know what I mean? You
- 4:36Speaker 1: know what I mean? Are we going to go in
- 4:38Speaker 1: a shotgun? Right? Well? I just saw that, you know,
- 4:42Speaker 1: Kerry was telling me they've done some things to make
- 4:43Speaker 1: the game move faster. They've done some things that are
- 4:46Speaker 1: changing up the sport because to make it more exciting.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I told I just saw in baseball. They My brother,
- 4:52Speaker 1: who's a baseball fanatic, told me that they've made the
- 4:55Speaker 1: basses bigger to inspire stealing, because stealing has become less
- 5:02Speaker 1: popular and they want to encourage stealing because it's exciting. Dan, Yeah,
- 5:07Speaker 1: it is exciting. I mean, I don't know about that
- 5:09Speaker 1: from like a stat standpoint, that may or may not
- 5:10Speaker 1: be true. I mean, I believe you you're telling me.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Why would they make My brother, who's like obsessed with baseball,
- 5:15Speaker 1: told me this because because I read in the news
- 5:17Speaker 1: they made basses bigger. I mean, stealing super exciting. All
- 5:22Speaker 1: I know. I know analytics plays a big role in
- 5:24Speaker 1: baseball as well. You know, to be Moneyball, that was
- 5:26Speaker 1: an amazing movie. If you haven't seen an audience Brad.
- 5:29Speaker 1: You know, you had me in Brad Pitt. But it's
- 5:30Speaker 1: also an incredible movie. I don't know if analytics plays
- 5:34Speaker 1: that big of a role in basketball, but in baseball
- 5:37Speaker 1: and in footballis nodding totally of course, absolutely drawing fouls
- 5:44Speaker 1: so you can take free throws. That's like, you know,
- 5:46Speaker 1: that's the gamesmanship of the NBA, like it used to
- 5:48Speaker 1: be if someone went up for right. But they're trying
- 5:49Speaker 1: to eliminate that though. Yeah, they're still figuring out ways
- 5:53Speaker 1: around it. I mean, but what I'm saying, somebody like
- 5:57Speaker 1: James Harden, who went to the line like twenty seven
- 5:59Speaker 1: times twenty eight times a night, is now going way
- 6:03Speaker 1: less than that. So you're right, this is a change
- 6:05Speaker 1: that's being made. But the question was our analytics applied
- 6:07Speaker 1: to things like basketball? And the answer is certainly yes.
- 6:11Speaker 1: By free through free throws, that's what you're saying, through
- 6:15Speaker 1: free throws, through defensive choices, like, there's all sorts of
- 6:17Speaker 1: things that apply it to like you know, the games
- 6:19Speaker 1: and ship that goes into being better at basketball. But
- 6:22Speaker 1: Shack Daddy always Shaq Daddy always says, you know, analytics,
- 6:26Speaker 1: shmanalytics you know what I mean, I kind of agree.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Agree When it comes from basketball, man, you can't. The
- 6:35Speaker 1: creativity that comes in basketball is way different than the
- 6:38Speaker 1: creativity and football and in base So we'll have to
- 6:41Speaker 1: have one of these coaches on in the near future
- 6:43Speaker 1: to talk about how they use analytics. I would love
- 6:45Speaker 1: to have a coach. I would love to have Popovich, Popovich,
- 6:50Speaker 1: Jason Kidd, Mark Jackson. I would love to have any
- 6:53Speaker 1: of them on this show. The only one I've a
- 6:55Speaker 1: coach I've met and I'm embarrassed and I forgot his name,
- 6:58Speaker 1: So don't judge me. Everyone but the Clippers coach? Wait,
- 7:02Speaker 1: which one they have? The doctor Doc Doc Doc. He's
- 7:07Speaker 1: not the Clippers coach anymore. He's the Philadelphia seventy six
- 7:10Speaker 1: I've met him a few times. I met him a
- 7:12Speaker 1: few times, and I have a friend who's friends with him,
- 7:14Speaker 1: so he's he's a chance we could get. Maybe I'll
- 7:17Speaker 1: be amazing legend. My uncle is a basketball coach. It's
- 7:21Speaker 1: not coaching right now, but he was. Who's your uncle.
- 7:23Speaker 1: His name is Jim O'Brien. He coached the seventy six ers.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Coach the Boss, Jim O'Brien is Jim O'Brien is your uncle. Yeah,
- 7:29Speaker 1: it's my uncle. What he knows about animals? Okay, I
- 7:39Speaker 1: don't know if our audience, I just don't know if
- 7:41Speaker 1: they down after the show, if they want to go
- 7:43Speaker 1: down on basketball wormhole right right, well, this might be
- 7:45Speaker 1: enough for I do. They might have said, Hey, guys,
- 7:48Speaker 1: thanks for the sports talk? What else you got? Right?
- 7:50Speaker 1: When thanks talk? When are you going to talk about Scrubs?
- 7:54Speaker 1: We are going to talk about Scrubs, but something else
- 7:56Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about. We're trying to think what
- 7:57Speaker 1: it was. Oh, there's so many things I want to talk,
- 7:59Speaker 1: so many things to talk about. Are you going to
- 8:02Speaker 1: talk about the Last of Us? Daniel, and And and
- 8:04Speaker 1: Joel want to watch the latest one, The Last of Us?
- 8:07Speaker 1: So you're watching the Last of Us? Now? I'm actually
- 8:10Speaker 1: going I'm obsessed with finishing the Boys because it's just
- 8:14Speaker 1: so incredible. I watched the hero Gasm episode, Yes, that was.
- 8:21Speaker 1: It's just such a fun show. The writing is so good,
- 8:23Speaker 1: the acting is so good. There's no reason. It doesn't
- 8:26Speaker 1: make any sense that those leads have not been nominated
- 8:30Speaker 1: for awards. I know they do. You know that these
- 8:32Speaker 1: I know that they Awards. People stray away from action.
- 8:36Speaker 1: But the talent on this show is is just incredible,
- 8:41Speaker 1: A great, great show. I'm really loving it. Um, that's
- 8:45Speaker 1: what I'm watching lately. I'm a little behind on the
- 8:47Speaker 1: Last of Us. It has been good. I'm not watching.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I'm not watching. I haven't watched it. You only miss
- 8:52Speaker 1: one episode if you watched episode three. Episode four is
- 8:54Speaker 1: the only other one that's out now, Donald, did you
- 8:56Speaker 1: want Are you excited? There's a marvel thing coming out
- 8:58Speaker 1: and here's something you weigh in? I don't know you're
- 8:59Speaker 1: excited for aunt Man three? Well? You know former cast
- 9:04Speaker 1: member of mine from well known movie called Clueless is
- 9:09Speaker 1: the star of aunt Yes, so he love everybody loves
- 9:11Speaker 1: Paul rod Donald. I was not invited to the premiere,
- 9:16Speaker 1: but I I appreciate from Afar how well he's done. Um, Paul,
- 9:28Speaker 1: way to go aunt Okay, everyone else, Paul, are you
- 9:31Speaker 1: excited about the movie? Doesn't look like it? Joel? I
- 9:35Speaker 1: am very I am you saw saw it good? Yeah,
- 9:39Speaker 1: you don't have to spoil anything. Give a two second review,
- 9:43Speaker 1: which I know Joel so well. After a hundred and
- 9:51Speaker 1: we've done one hundred and fifty episodes of the show
- 9:53Speaker 1: and I know, but she's gonna be so tactful. Watch
- 9:56Speaker 1: she's gonna be Look, everyone has the things they like.
- 10:04Speaker 1: The action in comedy is spectacular, truly, it's it's so funny.
- 10:09Speaker 1: It's one of the hardest I've left in an MC
- 10:11Speaker 1: movie in a minute. I just think Disney has to
- 10:15Speaker 1: find a way to bring actual fear because that is
- 10:17Speaker 1: how we empathize with characters, and it's what I think
- 10:20Speaker 1: really brings an audience into that dope. Yeah, and it's
- 10:23Speaker 1: what makes it mean. If you look at the last
- 10:25Speaker 1: to the Infinity War an end game, their fear all
- 10:29Speaker 1: we're worried about Iron Man? Is Peter going to come back?
- 10:32Speaker 1: Like there's a lot of you know, they were really
- 10:35Speaker 1: able to build in fear into those movies, and since then,
- 10:37Speaker 1: I think, all through Phase four and now as we
- 10:40Speaker 1: tiptoe into Phase five, that fear is gone. I need
- 10:43Speaker 1: to worry that someone's gonna die. I need to really
- 10:45Speaker 1: the stakes need to be beyond the world by end.
- 10:48Speaker 1: But now it might be love these movies, but now
- 10:50Speaker 1: that they've killed Iron Man and Captain America, it's so
- 10:54Speaker 1: hard to develop that who are you going to fall
- 10:57Speaker 1: in love with? Again, Peter Parker. You know that can't last.
- 11:00Speaker 1: So everybody's geared up and ready for that to happen,
- 11:02Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Yeah, but you've seen plenty
- 11:04Speaker 1: of films where the stakes are just is this person
- 11:06Speaker 1: going to say I like you back? Is right? You know?
- 11:09Speaker 1: Am I gonna earn my parents' trust or respect back? Like,
- 11:13Speaker 1: you don't have to have an end of the world
- 11:15Speaker 1: scenario in order for us to really empathize with what
- 11:18Speaker 1: a character is going through. And I wish Marvel would
- 11:21Speaker 1: make smaller, more emotionally impactful movies so that when we
- 11:25Speaker 1: get to these big events, were right along the edge
- 11:27Speaker 1: with them. Okay, let me say this, Joe. Well, it
- 11:29Speaker 1: took them ten years to get to Phase four, so
- 11:32Speaker 1: everybody was really invested in those characters, right Phase four,
- 11:37Speaker 1: Phase four and five seem like they've introduced way more
- 11:41Speaker 1: characters than they did in the first three film might
- 11:44Speaker 1: say too many, you know what I mean. So it's like,
- 11:47Speaker 1: who are we supposed to fall you know what I mean?
- 11:50Speaker 1: Who do you fall in love with? If this is
- 11:52Speaker 1: the thing they're gonna have to figure out going forward.
- 11:54Speaker 1: But I think it's why we're willfy night. It was
- 11:55Speaker 1: such a success for me anyway, It so good of
- 12:00Speaker 1: watch like they should do this. This is what I
- 12:02Speaker 1: think they should do. Blade Werewolf by Night, the dude
- 12:05Speaker 1: from Freaking the Eternals with the who was about to
- 12:09Speaker 1: pick up the sword was the name of that group
- 12:11Speaker 1: that they have ghostwriters. They need to do the freaking
- 12:16Speaker 1: supernatural version of Marvel here for it, because look, check
- 12:21Speaker 1: this out. Blade was the number one movie until all
- 12:23Speaker 1: of this stuff came around. Blade was the number one
- 12:27Speaker 1: ali doing it now so it's going to be dope.
- 12:30Speaker 1: I still think they should let Wesley have some sort
- 12:34Speaker 1: of shine and this bad boy because that sailed it has. Yeah,
- 12:40Speaker 1: he's been back, but look, let me tell you something
- 12:42Speaker 1: right now, man, he carried that franchise for a really
- 12:44Speaker 1: long time. Dude, Wesley Snipes was the what a comic
- 12:49Speaker 1: book hero was until freaking fig He took over of
- 12:52Speaker 1: all it. Fig He might even been the producer that
- 12:54Speaker 1: as a matter of fact, you know what I mean.
- 12:56Speaker 1: And Figy turned Captain American iron Man into superhero. But
- 13:00Speaker 1: before that, it was freaking Blade that was the number
- 13:03Speaker 1: one dude. It was better than all the Batman movies,
- 13:05Speaker 1: all of that shit. I'm getting loud again, I said,
- 13:09Speaker 1: I promised I wouldn't get loud. I'm sorry, Yeah, don't yell.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I know Wesley Snipes had issues with paying his taxes,
- 13:14Speaker 1: but why did he why did he disappear beyond that
- 13:17Speaker 1: because he went to jail. Bro Oh, he went to
- 13:19Speaker 1: jail for not paying his taxes. Yeah, man, oh, you
- 13:22Speaker 1: gotta pay your taxes. Eddie Murphy said that shit play.
- 13:25Speaker 1: The more you know music, you gotta pay. I'm gonna
- 13:30Speaker 1: say something right now, man, I do believe that. And
- 13:33Speaker 1: I know that he can't, he can't be Blade anymore,
- 13:36Speaker 1: but I honestly believe that you are missing an opportunity.
- 13:40Speaker 1: If Wesley Snipes isn't in some ways kicking somebody, isn't
- 13:46Speaker 1: kicking somebody's ass, and like watching Wesley kiss kick ass,
- 13:49Speaker 1: that's what you're saying, dude, Wesley didn't look If Harrison
- 13:54Speaker 1: Ford can be in the Marble Universe, Denzel should be
- 13:57Speaker 1: in the Marble Unit, like all of these cats should
- 14:00Speaker 1: be up in there, man, because what about Donald Faison.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like I feel like they have
- 14:09Speaker 1: a better shot than I do. Listen, we have a
- 14:12Speaker 1: surprise for you, Daniel. Will you let Kevin Figgy into
- 14:15Speaker 1: my shot. He's here hilarious and he has something he
- 14:21Speaker 1: wants to ask you. Kevin anyway, yo, but sincerely like,
- 14:28Speaker 1: I think Denzel should be in the Marvel universe. I think,
- 14:31Speaker 1: and I also believe. I feel like, in all honesty,
- 14:35Speaker 1: I feel like, you know, um, DONALDA should have No
- 14:40Speaker 1: I'm just kidding, No, I feel like I feel like
- 14:42Speaker 1: Wesley Snipes should also be universes tirade everyone about never
- 15:12Speaker 1: my last words. I gotta tell you, Donald phase on,
- 15:14Speaker 1: I think this is one of the best Scrubs episodes
- 15:16Speaker 1: of the whole run. Yeah, I hands down. Okay, but
- 15:21Speaker 1: there's a problem. There's a problem with that. I'm just saying.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I'm just saying this is a top ten. A lot
- 15:25Speaker 1: of a lot of our actor no doubt, a lot
- 15:27Speaker 1: of actors from the show aren't in right, nobody's in it.
- 15:31Speaker 1: It's me and you. Uh. Carla has one appearance, but
- 15:35Speaker 1: no Elliott, no Cox, no Kelso, no Janitor. I'm sorry
- 15:39Speaker 1: all those people. They're in nine of the top ten.
- 15:42Speaker 1: But I think this is a top ten or I
- 15:45Speaker 1: would go as far as to say top five, top
- 15:48Speaker 1: and we owe it all everyone to the magnificent Glenn Thurman. Yeah,
- 15:53Speaker 1: who plays George. Um. I don't know if Bill got
- 15:57Speaker 1: the idea for Glenn because I had directed Glenn pilot,
- 16:00Speaker 1: a big pilot I directed and he was one of
- 16:03Speaker 1: the leads, and maybe that put him and I told
- 16:07Speaker 1: him I'm just sure they'll knew who Glenn Turman was,
- 16:10Speaker 1: but that may have put him in Bill's mind for
- 16:13Speaker 1: this role. But man, did Glenn Turman at the end
- 16:17Speaker 1: when he has those tears in his eye, like, I'm
- 16:19Speaker 1: getting goosebumps thinking about it right now. Yeah, you know,
- 16:23Speaker 1: so a little known fact Glenn told us while we
- 16:26Speaker 1: were making this episode. I remember this episode. I remember
- 16:31Speaker 1: making this episode and thing, this is gonna be a
- 16:32Speaker 1: great episode just because we got to witness what he did. Anyway,
- 16:36Speaker 1: but while making it, he was like, you know, because
- 16:38Speaker 1: he found out I was a huge Star Wars fan.
- 16:40Speaker 1: He was like, well, you know, I was supposed to
- 16:41Speaker 1: be Han solo And I was like what. He was like, yeah,
- 16:46Speaker 1: you know this, it's in the books. You can look
- 16:47Speaker 1: into books and stuff like that. It's true. He was like,
- 16:51Speaker 1: but they knew that it was gonna be a relationship
- 16:54Speaker 1: with a white woman, and at the times weren't ready
- 16:58Speaker 1: for it, and I was like, oh shit, he was
- 17:01Speaker 1: also married to Aretha Franklin. A lot of people don't
- 17:03Speaker 1: know that. I didn't know that either. You know, when
- 17:07Speaker 1: others are you off topic, well, a divergent topic is
- 17:10Speaker 1: I just learned that Pacino was offered off the off
- 17:14Speaker 1: the off the mega stardom of Godfather one. He was
- 17:18Speaker 1: offered the Han solo part, and he turned it down
- 17:21Speaker 1: and he read it and he was like, what is this.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I don't know what the house going Yeah, look at this.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I was just I just saw him at A Q
- 17:28Speaker 1: and A and he told that story and uh and
- 17:31Speaker 1: it was It was really funny hearing him tell how
- 17:35Speaker 1: he just didn't understand what Lucas was going for at all.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I just didn't get it. It's well, and you know,
- 17:41Speaker 1: Lucas and Francis Ford, Coppola or Titus can be like yeah,
- 17:47Speaker 1: and and and and this was right off that. This
- 17:50Speaker 1: was right off Godfather where he was the hottest doctum
- 17:52Speaker 1: in town. And of course, as every a lot of
- 17:54Speaker 1: people know from the lore, the studio didn't want Peccino
- 17:57Speaker 1: at all for The Godfather. They fought him in fought
- 18:00Speaker 1: Coppola over and over and over again. In fact, I
- 18:03Speaker 1: learned from this Q and A that Coppola moved up
- 18:06Speaker 1: You guys will love this story. He moved up the
- 18:09Speaker 1: infamous scene where Michael Corleone shoots the police captain and
- 18:13Speaker 1: the other mobster in the restaurant where Michael finds the
- 18:16Speaker 1: gun behind the toilet, because the studio was so intent
- 18:19Speaker 1: on firing Pacino that he said, you know, we're not
- 18:22Speaker 1: supposed to shoot that scene for a month. We're shooting
- 18:24Speaker 1: it next week because I gotta give him the scene
- 18:26Speaker 1: that's just going to blow them out of the water
- 18:27Speaker 1: and shut them up. And he did that. They shot
- 18:30Speaker 1: the scene. He never heard from him again. Nice, nice,
- 18:35Speaker 1: oh man. And he thinks Coppola has had to do
- 18:38Speaker 1: to make his movies great. Where why do people constantly
- 18:42Speaker 1: fight that thing? I know, I know, I mean think
- 18:45Speaker 1: about think about the movies he's made. Okay, that's just it.
- 18:49Speaker 1: That's the same thing with George Lucas though. Man, the
- 18:51Speaker 1: studio thought Star Wars was going to be a piece
- 18:53Speaker 1: of shit, and look at where it's at now. Can't
- 18:55Speaker 1: look at mine? Your mind makes you think of Mike
- 18:56Speaker 1: White At the funniest part of the Golden globes when
- 18:59Speaker 1: he's all drunk on talking about white loadus too, pointing
- 19:02Speaker 1: at the audience. You meaning like you all passed, your
- 19:05Speaker 1: passed and you passed. It was hilarious. All right, let's
- 19:12Speaker 1: focus on scrubs and TV shows. So it was written
- 19:14Speaker 1: by a scene botcher and directed by a young man
- 19:17Speaker 1: named Bill Lawrence, who crushed it. Bill rushed its lighting
- 19:23Speaker 1: was amazing, the look of the whole show. I mean,
- 19:28Speaker 1: you know a lot, you know, young man once told me,
- 19:31Speaker 1: he said to me, you know, regardless of what happens,
- 19:35Speaker 1: you'll you'll you have your story to tell. You have
- 19:38Speaker 1: something to say, and people are gonna want to hear
- 19:40Speaker 1: it eventually. And Bill, let me tell you something right now,
- 19:45Speaker 1: you were saying something with this episode, Bro, you really
- 19:48Speaker 1: were a man like you You, I mean, you and
- 19:52Speaker 1: a scene you both captured something. Because you know, it's
- 19:56Speaker 1: rare that I get emotional watching something that I've been
- 20:00Speaker 1: but I was very proud to be a part of
- 20:01Speaker 1: this episode and to be on camera and in the
- 20:05Speaker 1: same scenes with Glenn Turman. I'm telling you right now,
- 20:08Speaker 1: and well you too, Zach, no doubt, no, but I
- 20:11Speaker 1: agree with you. And it's just really it's you know,
- 20:13Speaker 1: it's one of those special ones, like like like like
- 20:17Speaker 1: the funeral with with where do you think we are
- 20:19Speaker 1: with with Brendan and and it's just one of those
- 20:23Speaker 1: ones that just or My Old Lady, which I think
- 20:25Speaker 1: was one oh three or something, it's just one of
- 20:27Speaker 1: those special ones. It's like, whoa, this is how this
- 20:30Speaker 1: is Scrubs at its best. It's so silly at certain times,
- 20:33Speaker 1: you know, with the whole stake, nights song and all
- 20:35Speaker 1: that stuff, which we'll go through. But then then you
- 20:37Speaker 1: go Glenn Turman dying with his tears in his eyes,
- 20:40Speaker 1: and it's just fucking hell. Like the fact that this
- 20:43Speaker 1: is done in twenty two minutes and you've experienced all
- 20:45Speaker 1: these emotions, it's just the high it's just the high
- 20:48Speaker 1: bar for for what a great team can do in
- 20:52Speaker 1: twenty two minutes of TV. And I'm I'm I felt
- 20:56Speaker 1: also very proud to be a part of it. Let's
- 20:58Speaker 1: get into it. Let's get into it. Okay, So we
- 21:00Speaker 1: start with um Jordan at the computer, Jordan at the computer,
- 21:05Speaker 1: and and and Courtney's character Doctor Maddox. Really she's she's
- 21:09Speaker 1: a mix of being able to go friendly and soulless.
- 21:13Speaker 1: She tells Jordan she looks old, which cuts right to
- 21:17Speaker 1: her heart because no one wants to hear that, right,
- 21:20Speaker 1: but this also don't And I get told we look
- 21:22Speaker 1: old all the time, which is I get. I get
- 21:24Speaker 1: I look tired a lot, which yeah, it's like, we
- 21:26Speaker 1: understand that people grew up with us looking young in
- 21:28Speaker 1: our twenties, but we don't. We don't want to hear
- 21:31Speaker 1: that we look old. We know, No, I don't want
- 21:33Speaker 1: to hear that. Shit. It doesn't feel good. Um, but
- 21:36Speaker 1: you know, I'm sure you'll continue because hater's gonna hate
- 21:39Speaker 1: write Taylor Taylor Swift flifter just gonna hate, hate hate.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Haters aren't gonna hate hate, hate hate. Um, how do
- 21:47Speaker 1: I know? Love that Miley Cyrus song Flowers? I can
- 21:51Speaker 1: buy myself Flowers? What's the Scissor song you were singing
- 21:54Speaker 1: that I like too? Oh? Freaking uh? I just killed Max. Yeah,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I just killed my ex. What a bad idea, dad too.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I was listening to a Spotify Charts top charts list.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I think it's the number two songs in the country.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Check it out. It's the melody is amazing, very hooky. Yeah,
- 22:25Speaker 1: um um okay, so then we have a fantasy where
- 22:28Speaker 1: doctor Maddox tries to kill a patient because she's just
- 22:30Speaker 1: so hardcore. She she she's worse than kelso it seems,
- 22:34Speaker 1: but she but she has a way of turning on
- 22:37Speaker 1: the super friendly because she's so beautiful and charming. But
- 22:39Speaker 1: then she's just as cut through it as Kelso that
- 22:42Speaker 1: was pretty good to seeing with her choking out the yeah,
- 22:46Speaker 1: the pillow with the pillow, this guy die, right, And
- 22:53Speaker 1: then we have um Um Joe and Ed her name
- 22:57Speaker 1: is not what's her character name, I call her name
- 22:59Speaker 1: facts of life. But Denise, right, Denise just has no
- 23:03Speaker 1: bedside manner. Stand Ed is just winning everyone over. He's
- 23:08Speaker 1: Jady kind of hates him because he's very charming and
- 23:10Speaker 1: and he's getting catchphrases going, and Jady's trying to start
- 23:15Speaker 1: rumors about him. He says the churk I heard he
- 23:17Speaker 1: smokes plants. Yeah, and Ed has the ability to start.
- 23:23Speaker 1: His superpower is he can start trends quickly, which brings
- 23:27Speaker 1: Deonte Gordon, who was my standing throughout Scrubs, back into
- 23:34Speaker 1: the episode. This is his big episode, this ses. So
- 23:37Speaker 1: we say steak night, we do our steak night, Steak
- 23:41Speaker 1: night right, right, Yes, and then and all of a
- 23:44Speaker 1: sudden Ed comes by and turns our steak night. He
- 23:48Speaker 1: goes Great Fellas, right, turns our steak night cry into
- 23:53Speaker 1: a trending topic in the hospital. Yeah, and so, but
- 23:57Speaker 1: what did he say too? It wasn't he goes. I
- 24:00Speaker 1: think he he copies it. He goes, and then he
- 24:03Speaker 1: goes Gravy Fellas. No, he says to Deonte, may your
- 24:07Speaker 1: onions always be such and such, and may your mushrooms
- 24:10Speaker 1: always be sauteed and your onions always grilled. And then
- 24:13Speaker 1: he goes, and then he goes to then he goes
- 24:15Speaker 1: to us, and he goes Gravy Fellas when he's leaving,
- 24:19Speaker 1: and then I say cream spinach yo, And you're like,
- 24:21Speaker 1: don't do that. Don't do that? You know A Z's man,
- 24:26Speaker 1: I really, I I'm not gonna lie. Man. He if he,
- 24:30Speaker 1: if he would have stayed on the show, he would
- 24:33Speaker 1: have boosted our freaking our comedy in a lot of ways.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Man Like he was. This is not stuff that was written.
- 24:41Speaker 1: This is him riffing off the top. If I remember correctly,
- 24:45Speaker 1: he was like nine was he No, he did he
- 24:50Speaker 1: he was smart, He got out he saw it he
- 24:52Speaker 1: saw the light at the end of the tunnel. No,
- 24:53Speaker 1: but why did he only do three? He must have
- 24:55Speaker 1: must have had something, because he went on to do
- 24:57Speaker 1: Parks and wreck. Yeah, you're right, parks and wreck, Parks
- 24:59Speaker 1: and wreck. Okay, but but look, if I this is
- 25:02Speaker 1: an ass bill thing. But I think he had the
- 25:06Speaker 1: choice between doing that and scrubs and he was like
- 25:09Speaker 1: this shit is almost over. Well that makes sense, and
- 25:14Speaker 1: also he would have been an original cast member and
- 25:16Speaker 1: I'm sure paid more money and all that stuff. Yeah. Um,
- 25:19Speaker 1: So then we see an administrative assistant that seemingly for
- 25:23Speaker 1: no reason, has the sexy saxophone music with the slow motion.
- 25:27Speaker 1: It's so funny that it's always bad. Man, He's always
- 25:35Speaker 1: that fucking sound, which sounds as ass like. It sounds
- 25:37Speaker 1: like it should come with my my my mixer thing
- 25:40Speaker 1: like this. Okay, I don't understand. You said the wind
- 25:51Speaker 1: blows in her hair. You didn't say anything about the
- 25:54Speaker 1: light or the boobs like in this one, she literally
- 25:59Speaker 1: pushes together. And then we come back and I'm holding
- 26:03Speaker 1: a hot dog. Yeah, there's a couple things going on here.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Most of the women who come through and do this
- 26:09Speaker 1: are our guest stars or Sarah or Christa and they're
- 26:13Speaker 1: having like a sexy interest, but none of them push
- 26:15Speaker 1: their boobs together. Um, this was a model, I assume
- 26:22Speaker 1: who was hired to be a beautiful woman. But she
- 26:24Speaker 1: actually pushes her cleavage together. She puts a little little
- 26:29Speaker 1: sauce on it, pushes it together to the right. You know,
- 26:35Speaker 1: it was nice, like it was Yeah, it was good.
- 26:37Speaker 1: It was a moment for me. Yes, so she looked beautiful.
- 26:41Speaker 1: But and I'm like, why are they We know the
- 26:43Speaker 1: audience knows this gag. Why are they doing this? And
- 26:47Speaker 1: I went, Oh, they're setting it up for the payoff
- 26:49Speaker 1: later with the senior citizen woman doing it right, that's
- 26:54Speaker 1: the only purpose. That the only reason that because the
- 26:57Speaker 1: audience knows the convention that we do in scrubs. But
- 27:00Speaker 1: they kind of I think Bill felt like, oh, we
- 27:02Speaker 1: need to remind them of this convention so we can
- 27:05Speaker 1: make a joke off of it with the old lady later.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say one thing. I don't see anything
- 27:12Speaker 1: you're gonna regret. I'm not gonna say anything i'm gonna regret.
- 27:15Speaker 1: But when the old lady did it at the end,
- 27:19Speaker 1: didn't know did you get no didn't you feel But
- 27:30Speaker 1: when the old lady did it, didn't you feel like? Like?
- 27:34Speaker 1: So here's how I look at it. As I've gotten older,
- 27:39Speaker 1: my taste has gotten older. Right, So if I'm Glenn's
- 27:44Speaker 1: age in the bed, George's age in the bed, if
- 27:48Speaker 1: I am right, there was so much other as he said,
- 27:54Speaker 1: asked in the building? Right, what made him choose that? Well,
- 27:58Speaker 1: everyone has their unique taste that I think as you
- 28:01Speaker 1: get your taste goes up. I think that I perhaps,
- 28:04Speaker 1: but it doesn't matter to each their own. His. It
- 28:06Speaker 1: could have been a it could have been a male orderly,
- 28:09Speaker 1: or it could have been Jordan. It could have been anyone,
- 28:11Speaker 1: but his thing, his with God, him shifting was that
- 28:16Speaker 1: senior citizen with the gray hair in the in the
- 28:19Speaker 1: slow motion and the wind blowing, and she didn't do
- 28:24Speaker 1: the cleavage thing. No, she chose not to. I think
- 28:27Speaker 1: she was in a patient gown. So what's the hot
- 28:32Speaker 1: dog pen? You do a hot dog pen thing? So
- 28:34Speaker 1: every time uh JD goes into this, Turk tries to
- 28:40Speaker 1: take advantage right of him losing focus right, not being
- 28:45Speaker 1: present right, and he thinks he's he thinks he's caught
- 28:50Speaker 1: himself before he's gone too far. But Turk has already
- 28:53Speaker 1: got him with the hot dog pencil. So JD has
- 28:56Speaker 1: a pin or grabs a pen and it's real a
- 29:00Speaker 1: hot dog and he's trying to write with a hot dog. Yes,
- 29:03Speaker 1: and then you call me honky face, which is weird.
- 29:09Speaker 1: That's weird, man. I know, that's like out of nowhere.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I know, I think honky even though people don't use
- 29:16Speaker 1: it anymore, was still funny to us in two thousand
- 29:19Speaker 1: and eight. Yeah, but that's like out of nowhere. That's
- 29:23Speaker 1: just like out of nowhere. It just came. You probably
- 29:26Speaker 1: improv did I imagine? No. I would never call you
- 29:29Speaker 1: honky face on television. I would never just be like,
- 29:34Speaker 1: honky face, what is it? Honky face? But hearing you
- 29:38Speaker 1: say it now still makes me giggle, So I guess
- 29:40Speaker 1: it worked. So what I forgot about the famous Steak
- 29:43Speaker 1: Night dance and song, which I want you to know,
- 29:45Speaker 1: Donald and I made up on the spot, both the
- 29:47Speaker 1: melody and both the melody and the choreography we made
- 29:52Speaker 1: up on the spot. We didn't know that it would
- 29:54Speaker 1: be sung by by men and women across the globe
- 29:56Speaker 1: to this day. That pose at the end is this
- 30:00Speaker 1: This isn't the origin of steak night, is it? It is?
- 30:03Speaker 1: This is the season eight is the origin of steak night.
- 30:05Speaker 1: You guys have a steak night earlier. I want to say,
- 30:08Speaker 1: in season six. I don't believe we've ever heard that.
- 30:10Speaker 1: There's no song, the song and dance Donald. I remember
- 30:13Speaker 1: on this day Steak was like, you guys like, make
- 30:17Speaker 1: up a song and a dance about and we just
- 30:19Speaker 1: literally I'm pretty sure Bill was like, no, the song
- 30:22Speaker 1: goes we go instant. We should ask him. No, I
- 30:26Speaker 1: can tell you we made it is the world. That's me.
- 30:29Speaker 1: We made that up. We made it a steak night.
- 30:35Speaker 1: We gonna stay eat it right well, and we didn't
- 30:38Speaker 1: make that up. That's freaking uh. Eddie Murphy because your
- 30:41Speaker 1: Daddy's and alcah like, hey, alcohol want to lick sich
- 30:51Speaker 1: like because you are on the well, you can't afford it.
- 30:57Speaker 1: You can't afford it too much. That's from Eddie Murphy's
- 31:01Speaker 1: Delirious everyone. If you're looking for a reference, um, yeah,
- 31:05Speaker 1: maybe we were subconsciously inspired by that, but I mean
- 31:08Speaker 1: it's not like it's a fancy melody or anything, but
- 31:11Speaker 1: that I remember us going like, what the fuck are
- 31:13Speaker 1: we gonna do, and we came up with the sort
- 31:16Speaker 1: of dance and the hold at the end. I don't
- 31:18Speaker 1: mean that shit is so random, but it's the faces
- 31:22Speaker 1: and the commitment. Like we were just that we performed
- 31:26Speaker 1: a number for the breath out of breath. What about
- 31:31Speaker 1: the fact that, um, I've forgotten that the room has
- 31:35Speaker 1: to be clear for the dance to be performed. We
- 31:38Speaker 1: had to check both ways to make that. Poor nurse
- 31:41Speaker 1: interrupts us to actually do our jobs, and like started
- 31:44Speaker 1: an IVA on someone and we screaming, I'm doing the
- 31:48Speaker 1: state night and then and then we say and then
- 31:52Speaker 1: we say that we're going to finish it in the
- 31:54Speaker 1: bathroom of the restaurant, meaning there's another verse. All right,
- 32:04Speaker 1: We're gonna take a break and we come back. We
- 32:06Speaker 1: will talk about m j D and Turkey and George
- 32:11Speaker 1: Glenn Turnan. We will be right back for every bad
- 32:23Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, man, you said it. You said
- 32:25Speaker 1: it in the beginning. This is one of the best episodes.
- 32:28Speaker 1: I wrote that so many times in my notes, like
- 32:31Speaker 1: just even for you and I. As as far as
- 32:34Speaker 1: j D and Turk goes, this is up there with
- 32:36Speaker 1: the Jason Bateman episode. This is up there with the
- 32:39Speaker 1: with the Heather Graham episode, Like this is a great buddy,
- 32:45Speaker 1: you know, buddy episode, and we have a few of them,
- 32:48Speaker 1: but this is the first one of season eight one.
- 32:51Speaker 1: But this is a good one too, you know what
- 32:53Speaker 1: I mean. Like all I also like about it is
- 32:56Speaker 1: there's so many, so much of Scrubs as us in
- 32:57Speaker 1: a heightened state. You know, we're where you know, it's
- 33:00Speaker 1: a it's a comedy where we're being broad. The fantasies
- 33:04Speaker 1: are super broad. I always love it when Scrubs drops
- 33:07Speaker 1: in and we're just playing it completely real, and this
- 33:11Speaker 1: this episode has so much of that. You know, there's
- 33:13Speaker 1: a lot of humor. Obviously there's something as silly as
- 33:15Speaker 1: the stake night dance and all the other stuff, but
- 33:19Speaker 1: you know, you and I and and and Glenn are
- 33:22Speaker 1: playing the stakes of his death so real and it's
- 33:27Speaker 1: just felt It just felt so natural, I really think.
- 33:30Speaker 1: And obviously Bill Lawrence is directing it, so it's going
- 33:33Speaker 1: to be extra good. But but um, I don't know,
- 33:36Speaker 1: I just love the three of us just sitting there
- 33:38Speaker 1: and acting and it didn't feel scripted. It felt so natural. Yeah,
- 33:43Speaker 1: I loved I loved you know him saying he was afraid,
- 33:48Speaker 1: and us being like, I mean asking us if we
- 33:51Speaker 1: were afraid of death, and us being like the characters
- 33:54Speaker 1: Turk and JD being like, nah, man, you know, I
- 33:58Speaker 1: work at a hospital. It's kind of and it's easy
- 34:00Speaker 1: for me to think about death now because I see
- 34:03Speaker 1: it so much. You know, it comes with the territory.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I know everybody's going to die eventually. And then for
- 34:09Speaker 1: them to have that one eighty turn at the end
- 34:11Speaker 1: of the show where they're like, no, dude, I'm terrified.
- 34:13Speaker 1: I was bullshitting before. I was just bullshitting. I'm scared
- 34:17Speaker 1: of it all the time. You know. That was amazing.
- 34:22Speaker 1: And then realizing oh, we've taken it too far, and
- 34:24Speaker 1: then having to rescue him or rescue his fears with
- 34:29Speaker 1: what we think is after death. You know, there's so
- 34:32Speaker 1: many great moments. I was gonna say, it's a really
- 34:34Speaker 1: nice bookend with my old Lady, which which isn't I
- 34:38Speaker 1: think the third episode of SCUS in one where we're
- 34:40Speaker 1: losing our first patient, right and JD is literally being
- 34:44Speaker 1: comforted by the woman dying, saying she's ready to go.
- 34:49Speaker 1: And now eight years later, you see us we've experienced
- 34:52Speaker 1: a lot of death. We're so cavalier about it that
- 34:56Speaker 1: we're like, oh, it sucks. So he seems like a
- 34:57Speaker 1: nice man. Let's go to dinner. Though it isn't all
- 35:00Speaker 1: until we find out via Ted that he doesn't have
- 35:03Speaker 1: any family. He lied to us about having family to
- 35:06Speaker 1: come visit him. Um, that you see, you see, first
- 35:12Speaker 1: of all, what good men the two characters are that
- 35:14Speaker 1: they're that they that they have the empathy to go
- 35:16Speaker 1: fuck fuck state night, dude, Let's go be with this man.
- 35:19Speaker 1: It's probably his last it's most likely his last night alive.
- 35:22Speaker 1: And I don't know. It's just an interesting there's interesting
- 35:26Speaker 1: parallels back to my old lady. I think, yeah, absolutely
- 35:33Speaker 1: so he has eschemic bowel disease, which when when j
- 35:36Speaker 1: D and Turk look at the chart, they know what
- 35:38Speaker 1: that means and they can see all his vitals and
- 35:41Speaker 1: they know that he doesn't have long and um, and
- 35:45Speaker 1: then probably they know that it's probably that night they noticed,
- 35:49Speaker 1: probably gonna happen soon. Now the comic relief here is Ted,
- 35:52Speaker 1: who Um, it's very funny when when when when Glenn says,
- 35:57Speaker 1: don't worry, I have a young, handsome lawyer who's taking
- 36:01Speaker 1: care of my will and Ted goes, oh, I thought
- 36:04Speaker 1: it was me, and he rips up the document. He goes, Ted,
- 36:08Speaker 1: I think he was talking about you, and he goes, oh, man,
- 36:11Speaker 1: I tie, I wrote this on the typewriter. I'll be
- 36:13Speaker 1: back in eleven hours. And then when they show him
- 36:17Speaker 1: when the typewriter, when we're talking to him, and he's
- 36:19Speaker 1: literally one yeah button every three seconds, like his typing
- 36:25Speaker 1: in high school. I never took typing, but you know
- 36:28Speaker 1: there were people that like I could type. I wish
- 36:30Speaker 1: I had. Don't you wish you had? Oh my god.
- 36:32Speaker 1: If you got kids in high school, make sure they
- 36:34Speaker 1: take typing, because listen, they will be able to text
- 36:38Speaker 1: you so quick. I wish I took typing. Can you
- 36:40Speaker 1: guys type without looking at the screen, yes, without looking
- 36:43Speaker 1: at the keyboard. I never took that class. I wish
- 36:46Speaker 1: I took it. I'm a writer, and I'm pretty quick.
- 36:49Speaker 1: I'm pretty I'm pretty quick with mine, with my packing.
- 36:51Speaker 1: But man, I wish I took typing that beacon. Yeah yeah.
- 36:55Speaker 1: For some reason, they can't do my password regular typing.
- 36:58Speaker 1: The people like him. The second I have to remember
- 37:00Speaker 1: my password, I'm like, okay, Orange Juice three obviously I
- 37:04Speaker 1: could do it now. I should probably do it now,
- 37:06Speaker 1: but I don't know. I just I type pretty darn
- 37:08Speaker 1: fast when I'm writing my scripts and stuff. But I've
- 37:12Speaker 1: always whenever I see someone going on without looking, I'm like,
- 37:15Speaker 1: you motherfucker that Casey can do that. She can. It's
- 37:20Speaker 1: all those kids that took typing in high school. We
- 37:22Speaker 1: learned so much bullshit in high school. You remembering the proofs?
- 37:26Speaker 1: I do not need proofs. Yeah. You remember in the
- 37:29Speaker 1: Color of Money where Tom Cruise is playing pool and
- 37:32Speaker 1: he looks over his shoulder and taps the ball into
- 37:36Speaker 1: the hole without looking, the eight ball into the hole.
- 37:38Speaker 1: That's how Casey is with typing. She'll be like, typing, typing, typing.
- 37:42Speaker 1: I'll be like, Casey can ask you a question, and
- 37:44Speaker 1: she'll look up at me and you, uh huh be
- 37:47Speaker 1: typing while she's looking at me, and I'll be like,
- 37:50Speaker 1: and I'll be like, is there any can you tell
- 37:52Speaker 1: me where the uh where the sure I'm this is
- 37:58Speaker 1: gonna use this as an example. Can you tell me
- 37:59Speaker 1: where the ball? Gag is? Oh my god, that story
- 38:06Speaker 1: of you guys having sex last week was so funny. Anyway,
- 38:10Speaker 1: Danie'll play the more you know. So, parents of kids
- 38:13Speaker 1: going into high school, I'm telling you make them take
- 38:17Speaker 1: typing Daniel, the more you know, thank you. Um okay,
- 38:22Speaker 1: so oh that was also funny when we so he
- 38:25Speaker 1: wants a cigar and we're like, we can't. You can't
- 38:27Speaker 1: have a cigar. It's gonna blow up the whole ICU
- 38:29Speaker 1: because of oxygen. But we can go get your beer.
- 38:32Speaker 1: So we go get him a beer and that's when
- 38:33Speaker 1: we run a cress Ted who's trying to type again.
- 38:36Speaker 1: And it's the funniest part. Ted tells us that he
- 38:38Speaker 1: doesn't he's lying. He doesn't have any family, and but
- 38:41Speaker 1: I laughed so hard when he types and he goes, not, gee,
- 38:48Speaker 1: do you remember that? Like I remember old school typing
- 38:52Speaker 1: and there was a there was a backspace button, right,
- 38:56Speaker 1: it wouldn't it? Yeah, you could go over the like
- 38:59Speaker 1: you But did you have to use white out or where?
- 39:02Speaker 1: Or did it? No? It would have the white out
- 39:04Speaker 1: in if you had a really nice typewriter, it would
- 39:07Speaker 1: have the white out in the tape also, so you
- 39:09Speaker 1: would go back right and you could go back and
- 39:12Speaker 1: and delete one letter, yeah, or more than that. Sometimes
- 39:16Speaker 1: you could delete more than that. But you would have
- 39:18Speaker 1: to press today. I'll never know hids today will never
- 39:21Speaker 1: know white out Donald and then to bold something and
- 39:23Speaker 1: remember you'd have to go all the way back and
- 39:25Speaker 1: then type the word again, and then go back and
- 39:29Speaker 1: then type the word again to remember bold. I remember
- 39:32Speaker 1: white out man. Now, kids today they'll never know white
- 39:38Speaker 1: out Donald. Motherfucking kids barely know what pencils are. This
- 39:46Speaker 1: is true. There is no cap, no cap. Oh yeah,
- 39:53Speaker 1: I'm oh man. I remember. I remember back in the days,
- 39:56Speaker 1: like with the with the five inch floppy of it
- 39:58Speaker 1: like not working and like you lost your whole fucking
- 40:01Speaker 1: have you ever had that happen, like like by four
- 40:04Speaker 1: auto save and before everything, like old school five inch
- 40:08Speaker 1: floppy and like all of a sudden it's all gone
- 40:11Speaker 1: like ms dos, like it's all gone, and you're like,
- 40:13Speaker 1: where is it? Where is it? It's gone? No. I
- 40:16Speaker 1: remember Floppy discs. I remember that shit. I remember that.
- 40:19Speaker 1: We were the hard disks that came after Floppy that
- 40:22Speaker 1: was three and a half inch floppy right now, drive No, No,
- 40:26Speaker 1: there was there was the hard ones before that. There
- 40:28Speaker 1: was the there was like the five and a half
- 40:29Speaker 1: inch Floppy. There was actually floppy literally, oh no, I don't.
- 40:33Speaker 1: I'm literally only thinking of the the hard ones. No, no, no,
- 40:36Speaker 1: you don't even know this. What hold are you again?
- 40:39Speaker 1: Thirty three? Yeah, you're way too young to know. Look
- 40:42Speaker 1: at Google image on your computer right now. I think
- 40:45Speaker 1: it's I think it was called the five and a
- 40:46Speaker 1: half inch floppy just floppy floppy disk. I mean like
- 40:50Speaker 1: they still called they still called the hard plastic ones
- 40:53Speaker 1: floppy disc I think, yeah, they weren't say they weren't floppy.
- 40:55Speaker 1: These were actually floppy. Okay, do you see that? You
- 41:00Speaker 1: see that little tape in the middle for it, the
- 41:03Speaker 1: thing in the middle, just like original floppy discs. I
- 41:06Speaker 1: think it was like it was about this big Dane.
- 41:08Speaker 1: It's like this big and it has a circle in
- 41:11Speaker 1: the middle that has Yeah, I think I see what
- 41:13Speaker 1: you're talking about. They were actually physically floppy. Yes, you
- 41:16Speaker 1: could bend it. You could you bend it and everything.
- 41:17Speaker 1: You wouldn't want to bend it. You'd be upset if
- 41:19Speaker 1: somebody bitch your floppy disk, but you would put it
- 41:22Speaker 1: in your drive and you never seen everything. Yeah, yeah,
- 41:26Speaker 1: the big black one, the big black one. Wow. Wow,
- 41:30Speaker 1: you guys never saw this crazy blue and so and
- 41:33Speaker 1: so was and so was the one the five and
- 41:36Speaker 1: a half. That's a floppy disc too. Yeah, that's the
- 41:39Speaker 1: orange one. I'm not I don't think one was floppy.
- 41:42Speaker 1: That was floppy, I know, but Donald I never I'm
- 41:44Speaker 1: not talking about those. I'm talking about the black one. Yeah,
- 41:46Speaker 1: that's what I'm talking about too. Yeah, we'll share this
- 41:48Speaker 1: picture on Twitter. My very first um video games I
- 41:52Speaker 1: ever played on a computer were word games. So it
- 41:55Speaker 1: would be like you've entered a large room and you
- 41:57Speaker 1: would type in like move towards the window, and it
- 42:00Speaker 1: was like him in the beginning of Freaking Big where
- 42:02Speaker 1: he's playing the game with the ice, remember that, But
- 42:07Speaker 1: there's no there were no graphics telling them to take
- 42:11Speaker 1: out the trash and he's playing one a second and
- 42:13Speaker 1: he's trying to type it. Are there no graphics? It's
- 42:16Speaker 1: just words? No, there was there was graphics. Oh I'm
- 42:19Speaker 1: talking about a game where you had a physical map
- 42:22Speaker 1: that came with the game, maybe, but there was nothing
- 42:24Speaker 1: on the screen. You were just words and you'd be like,
- 42:26Speaker 1: moved closer to the window. It's like you have moved
- 42:28Speaker 1: closer to the window, like and that your fortress. I
- 42:32Speaker 1: don't know what it's called. Okay, but it ran on
- 42:35Speaker 1: MS DOS hell yeah, um, anyway, I didn't play that game,
- 42:42Speaker 1: and then I and then I graduated to um the
- 42:46Speaker 1: smaller plastic floppies, which all the Sierra games were on those. Yeah. Yeah.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of Lounge Lizards. Yeah,
- 42:56Speaker 1: that's one of my favorite games ever. Two when I
- 42:58Speaker 1: was a kid too. And then leisure Suit Larry go
- 43:00Speaker 1: on a cruise. The cruise one that was part two.
- 43:03Speaker 1: My parents let me get one two and three. I
- 43:06Speaker 1: don't think our parents knew what they were so we
- 43:09Speaker 1: were allowed to play it. Well, yeah they didn't. My
- 43:13Speaker 1: parents weren't clocking what leaders Suit Larry was. Yeah. No,
- 43:16Speaker 1: they weren't paying attention to that ship. Was it inappropriate? Yeah,
- 43:22Speaker 1: he's trying to have sex. Oh, not familiar. And the
- 43:26Speaker 1: land A lands in Vegas in one and in the
- 43:29Speaker 1: opening scene in the opening part, if you can make
- 43:32Speaker 1: it to the prostitute up on the next level with
- 43:36Speaker 1: the prophylactic, you had to go buy condoms like all
- 43:39Speaker 1: that shit, Like if you didn't, you died as soon
- 43:42Speaker 1: as you left, and we had sex. When you had sex,
- 43:45Speaker 1: it would it would go. It would have a black
- 43:47Speaker 1: box that said, sense, you're on it, but we would
- 43:49Speaker 1: move the black box should move like you were, like
- 43:52Speaker 1: you were. You could probably if you're listening in your
- 43:59Speaker 1: curious I'm sure you could go on YouTube and finding No,
- 44:01Speaker 1: you can find you can find a game on your phone.
- 44:03Speaker 1: I have it on my phone game. I'm just saying,
- 44:06Speaker 1: if people wanted to see who we're talking about, just
- 44:07Speaker 1: go on YouTube and look up the very first edition
- 44:10Speaker 1: of leisure Lounge Lizards called leisure Suit Larry in the
- 44:16Speaker 1: Land of Lounge Lizards. You know, it was crazy, was
- 44:19Speaker 1: trying to get past the test in the beginning, you know,
- 44:23Speaker 1: the test that they would give you a test to
- 44:25Speaker 1: prove you were over eighteen eighteen. That would be crazy.
- 44:29Speaker 1: So they would ask you questions. Remember I remember it
- 44:31Speaker 1: was hard. You had and you couldn't like google it
- 44:33Speaker 1: obviously back in right back in the day, you couldn't
- 44:35Speaker 1: google it. But they would ask you questions that theoretically
- 44:37Speaker 1: only an eighteen year old would know. And eighteen year
- 44:40Speaker 1: old or older, yeah, exactly what is the G spot?
- 44:45Speaker 1: And you'd be like like that. It was like it
- 44:48Speaker 1: was like I forgot what it was. But they were
- 44:50Speaker 1: some of the questions. Some of it was some of
- 44:53Speaker 1: it was based on how experienced you were, uh sexually
- 44:59Speaker 1: well not set as a human being though, you know
- 45:02Speaker 1: what I mean, Like, there was no way we can
- 45:04Speaker 1: answer these questions. I remember having the guests and I
- 45:06Speaker 1: would guess, and if I got it wrong, I would restart, yeah,
- 45:09Speaker 1: and then guess. There was only a certain amount of questions,
- 45:11Speaker 1: so you would just learn what the answers right, right,
- 45:13Speaker 1: And then eventually you just remember, oh, that's right, this
- 45:15Speaker 1: one is by one's Roosevelt, that one's Roosevelt. Right. Do
- 45:24Speaker 1: you even remember that? I do? I forgot it, And
- 45:27Speaker 1: then I remember I think we spoke about this. Four
- 45:29Speaker 1: There was a hotline and and because there there's no
- 45:32Speaker 1: way to like google, uh cheat codes or in, so
- 45:35Speaker 1: you would call on the phone, and god knows how
- 45:37Speaker 1: much it was a minute, right, And I would feel
- 45:40Speaker 1: so guilty because I was like, I was gonna get
- 45:42Speaker 1: in trouble. My parents are gonna be like, what the
- 45:43Speaker 1: fuck is this on the phone bill? But I would
- 45:45Speaker 1: call and you would be like, if you're stuck on
- 45:48Speaker 1: level three plus three and you press three, if you
- 45:50Speaker 1: can't figure out how to buy the condoms, press two,
- 45:53Speaker 1: and I mean just say prophylactics you had to spell
- 45:56Speaker 1: patic whatever. We couldn't say condoms you had to spell
- 45:59Speaker 1: pro was And then it was a record. No I'm
- 46:02Speaker 1: saying on the phone line. It was a recording. And
- 46:04Speaker 1: then it'd be like, you need to ask the pimp,
- 46:06Speaker 1: and I'd be like, oh, I didn't try and ask
- 46:08Speaker 1: the pimp. Hang out, and and that was the clue.
- 46:12Speaker 1: That's what you got clues. And then your parents would
- 46:14Speaker 1: get a build for like thirty dollars because you did that. Yeah,
- 46:18Speaker 1: it's too funny, all right, Yeah, anyway, j D was
- 46:21Speaker 1: a mask guy. Well, hold on, we go buy we go,
- 46:24Speaker 1: buy beer, condoms and a flare gun because because j
- 46:30Speaker 1: D felt emasculated because he only was going to buy
- 46:33Speaker 1: one beer and the guy was like, wow, big night,
- 46:36Speaker 1: and to make up for it, to puff his chest
- 46:39Speaker 1: out and feel more manly, JD chooses then to buy
- 46:44Speaker 1: six pack, condoms and a flare gun, which all come
- 46:48Speaker 1: into play at some point and m and then in
- 46:51Speaker 1: the in the elevator, well, we don't know in the elevator, Uh,
- 46:55Speaker 1: we don't know what happens in the bathroom when they
- 46:57Speaker 1: finished the State Night song. Are you implying that we
- 47:01Speaker 1: just don't know what the second half of the stake
- 47:03Speaker 1: ninth song is. We never learned. But bro, when you're
- 47:10Speaker 1: in the fucking elevator and you're and you're and you're
- 47:12Speaker 1: pretending to fire flares, and I go, you're good at
- 47:14Speaker 1: that for you, so um okay, so um. Then I
- 47:29Speaker 1: then I we tossed Glenna beer and I say I'm
- 47:31Speaker 1: allergic to barley, and um, You're like, really, is not
- 47:35Speaker 1: the truth? Yeah, Church says, tell him the truth, and
- 47:37Speaker 1: I say, I don't like beer. Um, I prefer Apple
- 47:42Speaker 1: teenys they make me feel fancy. M hmm. The guys
- 47:47Speaker 1: try to crack George George's hard persona by asking him
- 47:52Speaker 1: questions and and stuff, and he's just giving them one
- 47:56Speaker 1: word answers and uh. Then truly they get to football,
- 48:03Speaker 1: and George responds to football because he was an old
- 48:07Speaker 1: high school coach, and Turk says, you know, I played
- 48:10Speaker 1: football in high school. I was the safety. Yeah, I
- 48:14Speaker 1: had a lot of fun doing it. And then he
- 48:15Speaker 1: asks JD did you play football? And j D says no,
- 48:20Speaker 1: I was the mascot for a girls volleyball team. Yes,
- 48:25Speaker 1: and I wore a bandanna and a have shirt and
- 48:32Speaker 1: then at Away Games, I wore spurs, which doesn't make sense,
- 48:38Speaker 1: which didn't make sense because we weren't the cowboys. And
- 48:46Speaker 1: then Glen George, trying to be nice, says, you must
- 48:50Speaker 1: have felt very What did he say? You said you
- 48:53Speaker 1: must have felt very beautiful? Oh, very pretty? I said
- 48:56Speaker 1: I felt beautiful something like that. Um, what about that fantasy?
- 49:02Speaker 1: What about the fantasy of what they're gonna do with
- 49:04Speaker 1: me when I die? What you're gonna do with me
- 49:06Speaker 1: when I die? I'm not there yet. Okay, I'm not
- 49:10Speaker 1: there yet. Cougar Town is formed, guys, Yeah, cougar Town
- 49:13Speaker 1: has formed. Live on the air, they literally talk about
- 49:16Speaker 1: being Cougars and Mills. And then the very next year,
- 49:21Speaker 1: the television show cougar Town premiers on ABC. Yeah. Um,
- 49:27Speaker 1: that's true. And Bill always regretted the title. It's always
- 49:31Speaker 1: it always was a thorn in his in his finger?
- 49:36Speaker 1: Is that the expression in his side? It's on his side?
- 49:40Speaker 1: Or what's the But I think I think people, you know,
- 49:47Speaker 1: use a colloquial of like, you're a thorn in my side,
- 49:49Speaker 1: But thorn in the paw is the legend. Okay, well,
- 49:53Speaker 1: either your paw or your side. Bill always uh regretted
- 49:57Speaker 1: calling the show cougar Town. He thought that it hurts
- 49:59Speaker 1: the show. Um, because the show is better than the title.
- 50:02Speaker 1: That's what he would say if he was here. So
- 50:05Speaker 1: we cut to a fantasy of what JD. What's going
- 50:10Speaker 1: to happen when j D passes away? What the Turks
- 50:14Speaker 1: are gonna do? Yeah, and we we assume, because Turk
- 50:19Speaker 1: is holding an urn on his lead from the director
- 50:25Speaker 1: that they're gonna burn j D and sorry, they're gonna sorry,
- 50:29Speaker 1: they're gonna cream ate j D down to ashes and
- 50:34Speaker 1: put him in a urn. Right, And so they're watching
- 50:39Speaker 1: TV and Turk has the urn on his lap and
- 50:42Speaker 1: Carlos says it's creeping me out a little bit, and
- 50:47Speaker 1: you think that she's talking about the urn, but then
- 50:49Speaker 1: he goes, what that? And we cut to j D
- 50:53Speaker 1: next to rowdy, stuffed like a dog. Yeah, on all fours,
- 50:59Speaker 1: on all four, presenting, presenting very very well. I might add,
- 51:04Speaker 1: Oh my god, is that too far? No? I think
- 51:11Speaker 1: I tried to stay as still as possible, But I
- 51:13Speaker 1: think in post they really stilled me, because yeah, because
- 51:16Speaker 1: it would have been impossible to look like attacks of
- 51:18Speaker 1: dermy human But um, I don't think that's legal, but
- 51:24Speaker 1: it was funny. I don't. I don't think that's legal either.
- 51:28Speaker 1: I don't think embalming. Did you notice at the end
- 51:30Speaker 1: of the show for the first time, instead of like
- 51:33Speaker 1: an extra scene, they made it. They showed like an
- 51:35Speaker 1: outtake when you and I were just riffing on on that.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Did you see that? Yes? I did? Yes, I did,
- 51:41Speaker 1: And then Bill added, But it was funny. I like
- 51:48Speaker 1: the idea of instead of doing a little scene, let
- 51:50Speaker 1: doing bloopers. I don't know if that became Oh, I
- 51:54Speaker 1: don't know what we did this year, Like, I don't know,
- 51:55Speaker 1: but that was just funny that, Like, it's a cool idea,
- 51:57Speaker 1: like instead of doing like a quick little seeing on
- 52:00Speaker 1: the credits, do like a funny blooper. I everybody loves
- 52:04Speaker 1: a blooper. You know what everybody also loves? What's a
- 52:09Speaker 1: lesbian cloud? Oh? Yeah, so we're reintroduced to the lesbian clouder.
- 52:13Speaker 1: This is the second time that JD and Turk's version
- 52:17Speaker 1: of Heaven is discussed. It starts in a milkshakeh pool, Yes,
- 52:25Speaker 1: and then after they enjoying the milkshake pool, they go
- 52:27Speaker 1: over to a lesbian cloud where they could be smarter
- 52:33Speaker 1: if it was a bisexual female cloud, because if they're
- 52:39Speaker 1: if they're just they don't want they don't want to partake,
- 52:42Speaker 1: they just want to watch. Oh oh, I feel like
- 52:46Speaker 1: the lesbians would have a problem with that. Is that
- 52:48Speaker 1: their idea? Well, this is our heaven, you speak for
- 52:54Speaker 1: the queer community, but this is j and Turk and
- 52:57Speaker 1: Jad's version of heaven. Joell, Okay, we have sil versions
- 53:02Speaker 1: of heavens. So it's fine. The milkshake cloud is right
- 53:11Speaker 1: next to the shakedown, right, the milk shake pool is
- 53:15Speaker 1: right next to the lesbian cloud. Yeah, I get a
- 53:18Speaker 1: deal here, all right, all right? So um okay, so
- 53:24Speaker 1: Jed we find out Jad hates edge. Well. Ed has
- 53:27Speaker 1: got this whole new saying going and it is so recognize.
- 53:31Speaker 1: JD likes to think he's the most popular one at
- 53:33Speaker 1: the at the hospital, but Ed is really gaining traction
- 53:36Speaker 1: with popularity. He trends really fast. I mean what I mean? Yeah,
- 53:40Speaker 1: it's like trending now Ed whatever Ed says trends. And
- 53:43Speaker 1: he's come up with a new thing called recognize. When
- 53:46Speaker 1: you diss somebody and they burn you and they turn
- 53:51Speaker 1: your disc into a burn, Yes, you must recognize, right,
- 53:56Speaker 1: and then we see he even got ted doing it.
- 53:59Speaker 1: Record Nay, Sam Lloyd rested. Man, he did such a
- 54:11Speaker 1: wonderful job in this episode. Man, Well, I'm glad that
- 54:13Speaker 1: he lives on through his humor because I gotta I
- 54:18Speaker 1: have to say that rewatching this, that man makes me
- 54:22Speaker 1: laugh every week. Yeah, and think of all the people
- 54:24Speaker 1: that have seen this show and laughed and and and
- 54:28Speaker 1: so I'm happy that Sam has such a legacy because
- 54:31Speaker 1: he doesn't have a lot of lines in every episode,
- 54:33Speaker 1: but every single one of them makes you laugh. I
- 54:36Speaker 1: was so moved by um by by Glenn's performance when
- 54:40Speaker 1: when he has those tears in his eyes and he says, well, okay,
- 54:43Speaker 1: I'll just go I mean, that was just such beautiful
- 54:46Speaker 1: poetic acting. There's a lot that leads up to that.
- 54:49Speaker 1: First of all, I'm jumping ahead. I'm sorry, but I no, no,
- 54:52Speaker 1: no, no no, you're not jumping ahead. But let's backtrack a
- 54:55Speaker 1: little bit. We spend most of the episode in this
- 54:58Speaker 1: one room, this man, and we get to know him.
- 55:03Speaker 1: Within twenty minutes. We get to know him. We find
- 55:06Speaker 1: out things about JD and Turk that we didn't know,
- 55:09Speaker 1: you know what I mean, We get we get it
- 55:11Speaker 1: gets very intimate and by the time it gets too yeah,
- 55:17Speaker 1: long beard, stinky pants, that's when that's when the emotion
- 55:22Speaker 1: starts to kick in. But the emotions kick in with
- 55:25Speaker 1: the comedic start to a story that ends with you
- 55:30Speaker 1: know JD saying, you know he had he you know,
- 55:33Speaker 1: explaining how this dude was thought his father was such
- 55:36Speaker 1: a great person, right, and you will be remembered. So
- 55:40Speaker 1: you're not just gonna go get everybody's gonna you know,
- 55:44Speaker 1: somebody out there is gonna remember you. You will have
- 55:46Speaker 1: impacted someone somewhere, you know what I mean. And that's
- 55:53Speaker 1: when you know what I mean. So then he asks
- 55:55Speaker 1: the question, well, how's it going to happen, and then
- 55:58Speaker 1: they explain it to him, Well, this is gonna You're
- 56:01Speaker 1: probably gonna get tired, You're probably you know what I mean,
- 56:05Speaker 1: Your oregans will start to fail. And he's like, well
- 56:08Speaker 1: I feel pain, and I'm like, no, we'll manage any
- 56:10Speaker 1: pain you have come in your way, and then you'll
- 56:14Speaker 1: just go. And so when he says so I'll just go, Nah,
- 56:20Speaker 1: all of the stuff that came before that, all to
- 56:23Speaker 1: build up from that scene. Oh, it's earned, man, you
- 56:28Speaker 1: know what I mean? And he that that moment. That's
- 56:31Speaker 1: why it's so, That's why it's so powerful. All of
- 56:35Speaker 1: the stuff that we did in the beginning of this.
- 56:37Speaker 1: You know, you say, it's a it's a it's a
- 56:38Speaker 1: it's a testament to Bill's writing to do it all
- 56:40Speaker 1: in twenty two minutes. But they did it in twenty
- 56:43Speaker 1: two minutes. We've gotten to the point where I'm fucking
- 56:47Speaker 1: balling on my couch watching this scene later this many
- 56:52Speaker 1: years later. Yeah, you know what I mean. And it
- 56:54Speaker 1: opened up so many fucking things for me, you know
- 56:56Speaker 1: what I mean, just about life and things that I've
- 56:59Speaker 1: gone through since then, you know what I mean. And so,
- 57:02Speaker 1: and it all starts with long beard stinky pants. That's
- 57:04Speaker 1: the crazy thing. Well, that's the genius of Bill's writing
- 57:07Speaker 1: and obviously has seen Batra and the whole team. But um,
- 57:11Speaker 1: you know with JD's even JD's ramp into everything you
- 57:15Speaker 1: just said is a very is a story about about
- 57:19Speaker 1: his his dad. Um. But it's but it's got silly
- 57:23Speaker 1: stuff in it, you know what you're saying, with the
- 57:26Speaker 1: stinky pants and everything, but it's also so moving because
- 57:30Speaker 1: it's a story about what a good man his father was. Um.
- 57:35Speaker 1: It's just just really great writing. And then of course, um,
- 57:39Speaker 1: the performance. I mean, uh, I think you and I
- 57:42Speaker 1: are good, but but Glenn is just fucking next level. Yeah,
- 57:47Speaker 1: And it's just so it's just so um, it's so
- 57:53Speaker 1: moving and and it's so real. You know, it's it's
- 57:56Speaker 1: the show's a comedy, but it's really genuinely seeing a
- 57:59Speaker 1: wonderful actor get you into the zone of facing mortality
- 58:04Speaker 1: and how how is it going to feel when I
- 58:07Speaker 1: take my last breath? Um? And that's when it gets
- 58:11Speaker 1: really you know, when he's like, then they we go
- 58:13Speaker 1: into the montage and all of that stuff and their community,
- 58:17Speaker 1: you know, they're having great conversations and you know, laughing
- 58:21Speaker 1: and everything like that, and then he says, I'm getting
- 58:23Speaker 1: tired well, and they also don't forget in there. There's
- 58:26Speaker 1: also a moment that JD says, um, I think it
- 58:30Speaker 1: would be great if the if, the if your last
- 58:33Speaker 1: memory is a good one, right, if the very last
- 58:36Speaker 1: thing that you think of is is is something good?
- 58:40Speaker 1: And he's laughing, and he's he's laughing right before he
- 58:44Speaker 1: says to us, you know, guys, you know, I'm getting
- 58:47Speaker 1: a little tired. And he and he asks the question,
- 58:51Speaker 1: you know, oh, take a nap, take restaurant, man, That's
- 58:55Speaker 1: what they say. And he's like, we will you be
- 58:56Speaker 1: here when I wake up? And they say yes, hm,
- 59:01Speaker 1: knowing that he's probably not going to wake up. Yeah,
- 59:05Speaker 1: that was beautifully done. And then it cuts to the
- 59:08Speaker 1: roof of the hospital where we're sitting in lawn chairs
- 59:11Speaker 1: and turrets drinking a beer, and and then JD fires
- 59:17Speaker 1: a flair and from the flare gun they bought into
- 59:21Speaker 1: the sky in George's honor. Yeah. Really good, such a
- 59:26Speaker 1: great episode, really really good. It's one of my favorites.
- 59:32Speaker 1: All the fields, man, I'm getting the fields now. Yes. So,
- 59:34Speaker 1: so here's some trivia I found on Scrubs. Wicky Neil Flynn,
- 59:38Speaker 1: Ken Jenkins, Sarah Chalk, and John c mcginny do not
- 59:41Speaker 1: appear in this episode. No, Elliott, Cox, Kelso or Jenks
- 59:44Speaker 1: says this is Scrubs will get off. It's true, but
- 59:46Speaker 1: it says an alleged sipulation for Scrubs being picked up
- 59:49Speaker 1: for season eight on ABC was the show needed to
- 59:51Speaker 1: cut costs, so every main actor is absent for three episodes,
- 59:56Speaker 1: except Zach Braff and Sarah Chalk, who only missed two episodes,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: you missed three episodes. I did. I remember this? This
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: was I remember when this happened. A lot of things
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: happened this year. A lot of our pay went down
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: and everything because of the hiatus that we had in between.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: I remember I was making way more money before we
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: moved to ABC, and then when NA happened, things changed,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: and I remember, I remember that. I remember, I remember
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: the show not having enough money to pay everybody for
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: a certain amount of episodes. This is when catering changed.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Remember we didn't have do you remember this. Remember we
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: used to have the truck and we would eat lunch
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: outside and everything like that. Then it became a walk
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: away after that. I remember that. I remember that. Yeah,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: I mean this was. This was the beginning of the end.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Even though this was even even though this is one
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: of the best seasons, Yeah, so far, this was the
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: beginning of the end. It says a writer received bacher
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Want a Humanitas Prize for this episode, which is a
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: very um esteemed writing award. In the episode Stop Dragging
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: My Heart Around of Bill Lawrence's show Cougar Town, this
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: episode is running on a TV screen in the background,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: so it's clear Bill was proud of this too. Yeah,
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: Carla only appears in the fantasy about Stuffed jd Um.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Turk and j D's plans for their first day in
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: heaven echoes their plans from the episode My Way Home.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: When Turk and JD are talking to their patient, George
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Tchurk brings up the fact that he played football and
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: that he played the position of safety. And the movie
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: Remember the Titans. Donald Fazon plays the running back Pete
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Jones who gets moved to tight end. I don't think
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: gives me safety. I did, he gets moved to linebacker. Sorry,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: you should probably know that he gets no. So I'm
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: telling you what does the safety do. It's like it's
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: the dude that stops the wide receivers from catching passes.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: You love a wide receiver. I love anyone next receive
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: something wide? Oh, we love. We love receiving wide things.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Your favorite thing is receiving wide things. I do. I
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: do love receiving Why I I like it when it's
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: so wide that it doesn't fit through the door. Yeah,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: you can't even receive it. You love it when you
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: can't even fully receive it. I love it when it
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: doesn't fit. Um, all right, Okay, on that note, all right,
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: we're talking about packages, right, what a great episode. We're
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: talking about wide packages pages. Okay, just making sure sure
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: we're talking about wide, big packages. And we're gonna go
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: to break and we come back. We are going to
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: have a performance review for our Super Bowl commercial to
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: see how we did. We're gonna check in and and
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: make make sure we made the people that hired as happy.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Donald and I want to hear if it was as
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: big as it was in our minds, We'll be right back. So,
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: uh listen, we wanted to, uh, you know how some
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: jobs you can have like a a performance review. I
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: had a job. I've never had a job like this.
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Do you have this at I heeart a performance review?
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Actually don't, but I have had. All other jobs are
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: jobs where you get a performance review. So we wanted
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: to invite Brian Klugman, who you guys remember is our friend.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: He wrote that beautiful children's book. He's also we call
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: him the Don draper of of of the whole T
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: mobile campaign because he's the creative who Kim comes up
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: with all the ideas. He came up with the grease idea,
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: he came up with the one with Bradley Cooper. We
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: wanted to have Brian back on and some folks from
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: T Mobile to say, Donald and I wanted a performance review.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: How did we do. Let's let's assess how our heart
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: commercial went over? Yes, let us assess this. We're needy.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: We're needy mofos, and we want to know if we
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: did we did well by them, and we know you
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: guys want to know how well we did. Also, Yeah,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: we think we did well. We got we know. Lets
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: just let's just get a performance review. Let's some guide in. Um,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: Brian and the folks from T Mobile here they come,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: here they come. I'm gonna get my thunderous applause button ready,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: what's up, guys? Brian Klugman, you handsome mofo. You know
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: you do get handsomer and handsomer every time. And also
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: those glasses, Donald, you could Brian is wearing hipster, very
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: hipster glasses. Audience. I could not pull those off. Donald,
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: I think maybe you could. I've never I've looked at
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: this thunders. We are so blessed to have our friends
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: from T Mobile and Brian Klugman here. Uh, guys, we
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: decided we wanted Donald and I are very needy and
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: we wanted to have a performance review where you could
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: tell us, you know, as as employees, of how we
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: did did everything go overwhel We were just wondering because
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: we haven't heard from you since the shoot, and um,
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: you know, are are you happy? Yes? Did you want
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: the critical feedback first or the constructive feedback or the
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: good no? No, no, don't do anything critical that we
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: will will spiral out. We're very neurotic. Um. Wow, what
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: an amazing year again, you know, I think personally and
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: I think the the stats back this up. This was
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: the number one Super Bowl commercial of the year. Really,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: it's literally the most viewed piece of content that T
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: Mobile has ever created. And I think, you know, when
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: when Peter and I look at these things, there's kind
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: of two main things that we look at. One is
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: do people remember the company and the brand that advertised
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: And this spot in one of the main surveys that
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: we looked at, was not only in the top five,
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: it was number one number one spot and brand. And
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: then the second big thing that we look at, which
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: you guys like knocked it off the charts for us
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: last year because remember we had you know, the spot
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: last year like this one talked about our broadband business
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: and we had we were the fastest growing broadband company
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: in America. After that spot last year, we looked directly
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: at the business results and we saw all of our
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: business metrics. I can't get to the specifics on those yet,
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: but all of our business metrics off the charts after
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: that spot ran. So we are really excited about how
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: it went. Wow, it's so feel too. But anyway, I
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: want to introduce you guys. Sorry, this is Peter de
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: Luca and Mike Kats from T Mobile. And I mentioned, um,
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: the if Don Draper were more handsome, it would be
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Brian Klugman more handsome and more of Jewish. Yeah, jis
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: the Jewish Don Draper. Um, Mike. That's so great to hear,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: because you know, Donal and I our only metric was
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: um was the views on YouTube. Well that and then
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: and then a comment in our Instagram, you know what
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: I mean, like comments like well, I guess I'm switching that.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: I'd love to hear that. But you know the thing
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: about the spot is you brought great joy to a
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: lot of folks watching the Super Bowl this year. I
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: mean it was just so engaging and so fun and
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: reading all the comments, I would have to say, you
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: saw a lot of love from your fans out there. Yeah,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: it's interesting. The world is full of haters, right, we
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: know that, and especially on the internet, everyone is faceless
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: in control. But there was just such singularity in the
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: amount of love for this, and I think you know,
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: I mean, you guys break me if I'm wrong. I
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: think we made it with that kind of joy and love.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: I mean that was a pretty magical set to be
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: a part of. Yeah. Yes, well since stay one, and
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: also the Bradley Cooper spot was huge. Yeah, I was
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: just gonna say, what a great campaign, what a great
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: super Bowl campaign, you know what I mean? Bradley Cooper
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: like that did astronomical numbers on YouTube as well, not
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: only during the Super Bowl, at the day after the
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: super Bowl. Can you tell us about that? Yeah, I mean,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: we were so proud of both of those spots, and
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: I think, like Peter said, like, um, they did all
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: the things that great advertising should do. They sucked you in,
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: They were fun and entertaining to watch, They felt unique,
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: They didn't feel like anything else that ran on the
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: super Bowl that day. And when you when you left
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: watching the spot, you knew exactly what company was from
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: and what they were talking for, and and so so
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: many ads I think get that wrong, and these ones
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: were like awesome at getting it, this this one and
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: the one with Bradley Cooper. I will say to these
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: guys on the phone, who who literally made the spot possible? Uh,
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: Mike and Peter, who, like, you know, at the corporate level,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: you don't always get partnerships of people who see creativity
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: in this way and are willing to fight for that creativity.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: I think when we first showed the concept of you
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: guys just singing to Peter, he said, let's go produce
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: that right this second, regardless of what anyone didn't even
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: let him see it. Yeah. I wanted to ask you, Brian,
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: because this is just I think this will be interesting
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: for our audience, you know, for people out there who
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: don't know, you know, I'm assuming the average person doesn't
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: know how a commercial gets chosen or selected by a
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: big company like this. So can you just explain a
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: little bit like how does the how does the process work?
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: And also, you know, for you guys, how many concepts
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: do you look at? Like how does just give us
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: a little layman's version of how the process works of
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: picking a Super Bowl commercial. Well, I can give it
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: from our side, even though we're all on the same side.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: But I mean like I can take it so far
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: until uh, Peter and Mike step in. Um. But you know,
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: Andrew Pinney and I as you know, pay is uh
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: my partner and you know it's Pinna Films as the
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: company we work under, and we get together sometimes we
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: bring another creative people and we just kind of talk
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: about we get what these guys kind of tell us
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: what we want a message. We knew we wanted to
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: message home internet right the mobile home internet. So we
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: start talking about ways that we can do it now.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: We did it last year with you guys, so the
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: question was like, how do we do we do it again?
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: Is that boring? The super Bowl has to be a surprise,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: It has to be an impactful, impactful So we knew
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: we wanted to raise the bar. We had to have
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: a surprise. Zach, You and I actually talked about Greece
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: for offline, you know, beforehand, and then we started thinking, well,
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: as you do, Grease, what if the surprise is a
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: new neighbor moves into the neighborhood and it's John Travolta.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: So we started, we wrote the lyrics. You guys came
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: in and recorded some song, recorded it for us. And
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: then this in addition to about you know, six other
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: seven other things, we took to these guys and showed
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: them a approach to all of them and this obviously
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: was one they just gravitated to and a lot. You know.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: It's one more thing I'll say is between this and
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: the Bradley Spot, like they're kind of disparate, they're different,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: they're very different. But I think what's really uniting Tembile
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: and what these guys were responding to on this college
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: they were united by joy. They both had this like
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: joyous factor and so we took it to them and
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: then Peter Mike, I'll let you guys take it from
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: there because that's where it kind of hands off to
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: you guys. Well you know, you know, and Brian's right,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: like they bring they brought six or seven different ideas
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: to the table, and like literally when I saw the
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: idea about redoing Grease, like I literally was like, Brian,
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: we got to just get this in pre production. We're
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: going to sell it through because it's going to be
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: a super Bowl spot. You could just feel it from
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: the moment of watching the little trailer you did in
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: performing the song for us, and that when you did that,
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: it was just we knew, we knew we had a
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: hit even before we ever set out to Actually we're
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: recording the spot, so it's kind of exciting. And then
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: you have to weed through ideas because the core thing
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: about it is Super Bowl is well it's a place
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: for big brands to show up. We still have to
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: get core messages out there. And you know, you've established
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: a franchise with us, you know him last year of
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: our little cul de Sac neighborhood, and what better way
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: to go back and you know, really elevate the idea
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: is to bring in a new neighbor Like it was
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: just it was just a solid concept. Did you guys
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: think that it would I mean, did you have any
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: idea that it would be this successful? I mean I
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: certainly didn't. I mean, I hoped we wanted to deliver
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: for you guys again. But when Brian called me and
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: told me what a hit it was, Donald and I
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: were just thrilled, and I wondered if you guys had
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: any And I know you trust Brian because because he's
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: really great at what he does. But did you have
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: any clue that it would be this much of a success. Um.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: I mean when we saw it, we knew it was great. Um,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: so we we we loved it, and I think I think, honestly,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: what was surprising to us. We knew that we knew
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: the ad was great. But last year when we ran
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: that spot, literally, like I said at the beginning, um,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: not not very often in advertising do you see an
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: immediate response to when you when you put a message
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: out on TV, especially nowadays, like a lot of times
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: there's a delay and people need to see these things
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: a few times where they take an action. We literally
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: saw from the Super Bowl last year when we did
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: when we did that commercial, through the end of the year,
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: an immediate spike in this broadband business and one that
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: was so significant that literally we did more broadband connections
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: last year than every other broadband kind of company in
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: America combined. So it was it was kind of it
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: was kind of mind blowing, and honestly, that was that
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: was a big reason why we were excited, because I mean,
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: it's shot up. It was crazy, you know, like it
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: was like you guys aired last year, and the sales
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: literally instantly. I mean it wasn't like, oh, six months later.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: It was like an instant reaction. That's very rare in marketing,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: and and it was a real testament also, like I mean,
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: you guys haven't been together in it hadn't been together
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: in like a public form in that way. I think
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: in a like a while other than America's Favorite podcast,
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: Brian think Doctor's Real Friends that that we're on right now.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: Obviously that I mean I realized, I don't don't look
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: at the charts. We are America's fair podcast, right. You
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: don't need to look at the charts to know that either.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: I just don't look well. When they saw you together
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: as all I'm saying no visually Brian, yes, visually visual
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: and in a visual medium. Uh, they were. It was
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: just incredible. Man. I mean, people just love you guys,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: and uh, I mean John has called so many times
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: and like, I love those guys. I want to work
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: with those guys, Like I know, this so fun. We
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: did an interview with Variety where John was like on
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: the call and he said to the Variety reporter, he goes,
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: I really think the three of us should make like
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: a real musical, and he said, I said to the journalists,
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: the go sir, can that please be the headline of
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: your Just throw out a quick pitch while we're while
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: we're on T Mobile the musical. You know what, hold on, Klugman,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: you might be onto something. Because I was going to
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: ask that is does does can T Mobile make movies?
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: Does it work like that? Can that happen? Anything can
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: happen this day in this Dnah child, there's all sorts
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: of frontiers. You were working the right people, Peter, Mike
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: Mobile make movies, Brian, bring us, bring us a script treatment.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: We should make a short by the way, you know,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: I mean I directed a short um Sorry to Live
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: pitch on the air, but I directed a short film
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: for Adobe and it was really awesome. We made this
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: really amazing short and it was just kind of like
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: Adobe Presents and then it was you know, the branding
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: wasn't obvious. It was there. People knew Adobe made it.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: But we could do We should do something like that,
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: like just like a T Mobile short film, like you know,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: like me and Donald on some adventure. Hey, Mike, I
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: have a question for you, because the timing of the
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: spot could not have been more ideal. I don't normally
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: watch the game, to be honest, I'm not a big
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: sports guy. But I was fully watching this game. And
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: first of all, I'm told by people who love football
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: that it was an incredible game because I was on
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: the edge of my seat. But when when you pick
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: a spot, do you pick a spot? Do they give
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: you a spot or how or is it just a
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: roll of the dice. Did we ended up in that placement? Yeah? No,
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: we picked the spot and we were really good. I mean,
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: you got lucky, lucky. There were so many things that
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: just really helped us. It was a great matchup the
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: Super Bowl. That was the best ratings of the Super Bowl,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: like in six years, and it was like the third
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: most watched super Bowl ever, so you had a huge audience.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: And then the freaking game was tied at the two
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: minute warning, so everybody was still watching. So it's a
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: risky spot. It's a very good bye and a blowout
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: that spot. That spot nothing right. Yeah, but we purposely
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: when we went in because we were like analyzing all
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: the playoff games going into the Super Bowl, and when
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: we had to select and finally get the position, We're
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: like we believed there was going to be a good
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: game going in, which is why we said, you know what,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: roll the dice, take the position, and then the game
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: just totally came in, which I was about to say,
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: Speaking of which, the last time I saw you guys,
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: other than that the commercial was in Vegas. Did you
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: do Yeah? Well, I mean, obviously if you need betting tips,
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: I go all in, man and we and I think
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: we won. Story Donald Donald texted me. Donald was, you know,
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: redoing his house a new house, so he didn't want
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: to bet any money. And he texts me He's like,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: I'm not going to bet at all. Um, Uh, you
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: know I'm putting too much money into this house. I go, dude,
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: you're in Vegas. Play with a couple thousand dollars, have
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: fun and uh and he goes, you're right instantaneously, like
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: to Mississippi. Later, I get a text from his wife.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: She goes, what are you doing? I go, what are
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: you talking about? I go, he's alone in Vegas. Then
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: him gamble. She goes from there, goes my new stove.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Can we can we just nerd out for a second
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: on what it was like and how awesome it was
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: to make a commercial with John Travolta singing Greece dude
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: Ye was that? I told Donald, give him just chill out,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: don't get it all up in his face right away
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: about anything about you know, questions anecdotes. Donald's like, you're right,
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: we'll be cool. We'll be cool. Three seconds later I
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: look over Donald's like, my favorite part about face off
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: when I asked him everything and he answered everything to
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: very generous man. But um, you know, it's a dream
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: come true to work with someone like John Travolta. I'm
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: gonna be honest with you. I didn't think it would
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: come through advertising, you know. I thought maybe it would
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: be through a movie or something like that. But this
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: is probably one of the most unique experiences and awesome
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: experiences ever because of how the response, you know, the
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: response I get from my family, the response I get
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: from friends. You know, I'm doing a sitcom right now.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: And I went into the writer's room and the writers
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: at the day after the Super Bowl, and that's all
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: they wanted to talk about with me was the commercial
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: and what it was like to work with John Travolta.
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: And I was like, shit, you know, I knew, I mean,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: we can curse. This is my podcast I'm allowed to
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: curt but anyway, Um, I was like, you know, shit,
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: johnshra Volta is That's I knew he was a big
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: deal because I was a big fan. But the fact
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: that the question what was it? Like, you know what what?
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: What did he look you into? Eyes? Like everything? Like
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: I was like, we talk about longevity. I mean I
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: used to watch fucking Welcome Back Carter, right, I mean,
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: look at this man's career and how epic it is.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: And then there's been so many chapters and then the
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: Quentin Tarantino with pulp fiction, just like a whole new, constant,
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: constant reinventions. And and I would saying to John the
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: other day, I was like, I think I think this
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: is like people forget how like you know, he's played
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: so many bad, tough guys and all that stuff as
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: of late, and like he's the I mean so charming
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: in this commercial and his smile and seeing him be
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: playful and fun, it's it's like this is a great
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: and he goes that's closest to who I am and
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: the stuff I like to do the most. Yeah, he
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: loved it. He was having so much fun. Donald and I,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: you know, we both love musicals. Everyone listening to this
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: podcast knows how much Donald and I love singing dancing musicals,
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: and um, you know, I went. I literally went to
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: theater camp and my and my friend. My friend texted
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: me after the ad he goes, Wow, theater camp finally
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: paid off. Well, listen, we want to thank you guys
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: so much for coming on. We want to thank you
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: for for for trusting us with with the spot. But
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: also I'm just congratulations, not just on success of ours,
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: but on the success of the Bradley Cooper One and Brian,
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: you're you're a legend, man, You're you're You're so talented,
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: and thank you for I can't take the credit. We
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: gotta throw it to Pinney too, man, he's us and
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: of course your partner Andrew Pinay uh sorry, I got it.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: I got can't just can't do it. But h but
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: you guys are incredible and I think we're I think
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: we're just getting started. Man. I think your idea of
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: Zact of making some short shorts, let's do some musicals.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: Let's just go make a couple. I think that's like
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: a great repetitive thing. And Bryan, I think you could
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: write some t mobile lyrics to lame is. I think
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: that's super easy. All right, guys, thank you so much,
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: Thank you guys. We love you guys so much. All right,
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: so that's the show. Everybody, Thank you so much for
