- 0:01We are trained to believe that the mind relies entirely on the
- 0:05five senses of perception and the five senses of action in
- 0:09order to receive data or undertake action.
- 0:14If the mind is cut off from the senses, we believe that it is
- 0:18powerless and unable to either sense, communicate, or act.
- 0:24Spiritual science indicates that the mind has a power of its own
- 0:28that is independent of these senses.
- 0:31Modern Western science is now validating this understanding
- 0:35through a unique series of experiments and advances in
- 0:39understanding the operations of the mind.
- 0:43We are all familiar with the image of the great theoretical
- 0:46physicist Stephen Hawking. He was stricken with the
- 0:50degenerative disease which left him unable to operate his body,
- 0:55including the power of speech. He was able, however, to develop
- 1:00a method to generate speech through the power of the mind to
- 1:03generate internal vibratory patterns which an external
- 1:08device was able to translate into speech.
- 1:11The mind was capable of generating these bioelectrical
- 1:15impulses which carried the content of the thought in such a
- 1:19way that a computer aided device could convert it into speech
- 1:23patterns. His experience is not unique.
- 1:28Researchers have been reported to be testing the implant of an
- 1:32interface called a biocortical motor implant between the brain
- 1:38and the computer of people who have lost the use of speech by
- 1:42reading the signals the brain generates and translating this
- 1:46into computer generated speech. Other people are able to operate
- 1:50a computer through the power of the concentration of the mind,
- 1:54with the signal enhanced by various listening devices that
- 1:58have been developed. Similarly, devices have been
- 2:02developed to capture the brain's signals to operate prosthetic
- 2:06limbs. What all of these things have in
- 2:10common is that they directly tap into the brain's signals and tie
- 2:15them into external devices that at least partially replace the
- 2:18use of the normal biological senses that carry out actions
- 2:23such as movement or speech. They prove that the brain is not
- 2:28absolutely dependent on the senses.
- 2:32There is also extensive research into telepathy, the ability of
- 2:36the mind to directly communicate with another mind, either to
- 2:40pick up the thoughts of another person or to communicate
- 2:44thoughts to another person. A young student did an
- 2:48experiment in telepathy and found that certain pairs of
- 2:51individuals were able to identify colours or numbers or
- 2:56shapes being focused on by the other party, far in excess of
- 3:01random chance. Similar experiments have been
- 3:04designed and carried out by researchers in Mind Science
- 3:07under rigorous conditions. While such results remain rare,
- 3:12they nevertheless do occur and tend to support the idea that
- 3:17just as a computer device can pick up and enhance the
- 3:21transmission of brain signals, so certain individuals are
- 3:26capable of internally enhancing these signals, while others may
- 3:32be receptive and capable of capturing and translating such
- 3:36signals. Making the incidence of
- 3:38telepathic communication something in our hidden
- 3:41capabilities and potentially a power that will manifest more
- 3:46widely as we explore inner space more systematically in the
- 3:51future. There is no doubt that certain
- 3:55individuals who live together are able to sink their thought
- 3:58process to such a degree that they know what the other person
- 4:02is thinking. And in many cases they are able
- 4:04to supply words or finish sentences for one another, or
- 4:09just express something that the other person acknowledges they
- 4:12were just thinking about, without a specific external
- 4:16context to justify the synchronistic thought arising.
- 4:22TR de Chardin described a mental atmosphere that surrounds us,
- 4:26similar to the atmosphere of air or the ionosphere around the
- 4:31planet. Thoughts generated create waves
- 4:34which go out into this mental atmosphere, which he called a
- 4:38neurosphere, and are there to be picked up, received, and
- 4:43potentially acted upon by others who happened to capture these
- 4:46waves. This may also explain how
- 4:50certain ideas or inventions arise in different parts of the
- 4:53world at the same time without direct communication between the
- 4:58thinkers or inventors. Another pointer in the direction
- 5:02that the mind has its own power of thought creation and
- 5:05reception, independent of any reliance on the senses.
- 5:11Many people have had the experience of entering an
- 5:14atmosphere that was filled with mental concentration and being
- 5:18impacted by that atmosphere. Entering a library where people
- 5:23are engaged in serious study has a strong impact on the mind of
- 5:27the individual and helps to tune 1's mind to the mental
- 5:31wavelengths. Similarly, when an individual
- 5:35gives a lecture on a subject requiring intense concentration,
- 5:391 can palpably experience the atmosphere of concentration.
- 5:45Silent chanting of a mantra can have an extraordinary impact on
- 5:50an environment, as reported by people who happen to enter that
- 5:53location, indicating that the mind was able to generate a
- 5:58field externally without the use of speech.
- 6:03Many people have commented on the ability of certain
- 6:05practitioners of yoga to create a field of peace and
- 6:10concentrated awareness around them, another sign that the mind
- 6:14can have palpable effects in the outer world without use of the
- 6:19physical senses to create that effect.
- 6:23It appears that the mind's ability to generate bioelectric
- 6:27signals can be enhanced, and it appears that the mind's ability
- 6:32to receive and interpret such signals can be enhanced.
- 6:36When the two coincide, communication can take place
- 6:40without speech. A future development thus can be
- 6:44seen as a consequence of the further evolution of
- 6:47consciousness, Srioro Bindo writes.
- 6:51Quote. The awakening of the psychical
- 6:54consciousness liberates in us the direct use of the mind as a
- 6:58sixth sense, and this power may be made constant and normal.
- 7:03The physical consciousness can only communicate with the minds
- 7:07of others or know the happenings of the world around us through
- 7:10external means and signs and indications.
- 7:14And it has beyond this limited action, only a vague and
- 7:17haphazard use of the minds, more direct capacities, a poor range
- 7:22of occasional presentiments, intuitions and messages.
- 7:27Our minds are indeed constantly acting and acted upon by the
- 7:31minds of others through hidden currents of which we are not
- 7:35aware, but we have no knowledge or control of these agencies.
- 7:39The psychical consciousness, as it develops, makes us aware of
- 7:44the great mass of thoughts, feelings, suggestions, wills,
- 7:49impacts, influences of all kinds that we are receiving from
- 7:54others or sending to others, or imbibing from and throwing into
- 7:59the general mind atmosphere around us.
- 8:02As it evolves in power, precision, and clearness, we are
- 8:07able to trace these to their source or feel immediately their
- 8:11origin and transit to us, and direct, consciously and with an
- 8:16intelligent will, our own messages.
- 8:20It becomes possible to be aware, more or less accurately and
- 8:24discerningly, of the activities of minds, whether near to us
- 8:28physically or at a distance, to understand, feel, or identify
- 8:34ourselves with their temperament, character,
- 8:37thoughts, feelings, reactions, whether by a psychic sense or by
- 8:44a direct mental perception, or by a very sensible and often
- 8:49intensely concrete reception of them into our mind or on its
- 8:54recording surface. At the same time, we can
- 8:59consciously make at least the inner selves, and if they are
- 9:03sufficiently sensitive, the surface minds of others, aware
- 9:07of our own inner mental or psychic self, and plastic to its
- 9:12thoughts, suggestions, influences, or even cast it or
- 9:17its active image in influence into their subjective, even into
- 9:21their vital and physical being, to work there as a helping or
- 9:26molding or dominating power and presence.
