- 0:37SPEAKER_05: Evening, early evening.
- 0:39SPEAKER_05: Happy St.
- 0:40SPEAKER_04: Patrick's Day.
- 0:41SPEAKER_04: Yes, this is uh dropping on Thursday, but we're recording it on St.
- 0:46SPEAKER_04: Patrick's Day.
- 0:47SPEAKER_04: Correct.
- 0:47SPEAKER_04: So it's uh a mention is is at least worthy.
- 0:51SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 0:52SPEAKER_04: Or worth it to say that uh it's happy St.
- 0:55SPEAKER_04: Patrick's Day.
- 0:56SPEAKER_04: Um was odd today.
- 0:59SPEAKER_04: Uh first of all, I'm still quite groggery.
- 1:01SPEAKER_04: Groggy.
- 1:02SPEAKER_04: Grogery?
- 1:03SPEAKER_04: Groggery.
- 1:03SPEAKER_04: I'm still quite groggery.
- 1:05SPEAKER_09: I'm quite Gregory.
- 1:06SPEAKER_04: Um Gregory Peck.
- 1:08SPEAKER_04: I just got up.
- 1:09SPEAKER_04: I just woke up before you got here.
- 1:11SPEAKER_04: Um Well, you are in your PJ pants.
- 1:14SPEAKER_04: I am in my PJ pants, yes.
- 1:15SPEAKER_04: I got got I got comfortable as soon as I got home.
- 1:18SPEAKER_04: And uh so I was on a uh three-day, two-night uh three-hour tour with um sixty-five high school students uh from the music department.
- 1:33SPEAKER_04: And we so we drove down to Portland on Sunday and we drove back this afternoon, um, not without its hiccups, but all in all a success, I would say.
- 1:45SPEAKER_04: Good.
- 1:46SPEAKER_04: Um I think the kids had fun.
- 1:49SPEAKER_04: Excuse me.
- 1:50SPEAKER_04: Um the chaperones and I and the other my fellow teacher, Mr.
- 1:55SPEAKER_04: Bragdon, um survived.
- 1:58SPEAKER_09: Always a good thing.
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: It was, yeah, always a good thing.
- 2:01SPEAKER_04: Um but uh I think what summed it up for me was we were just outside of Prescottisle coming home, and I had two girls sitting behind me.
- 2:16SPEAKER_04: I'm sitting in the front seat in the bus, and two girls sitting behind me, and these two girls are I mean this in in an endearing way, sort of.
- 2:28SPEAKER_09: Which means you're gonna slam them.
- 2:30SPEAKER_04: They are two of the busiest uh uh careless.
- 2:39SPEAKER_04: Uh how how can I put that?
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: They're a pain in the neck.
- 2:43SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 2:43SPEAKER_04: Basically, you know, in in everyday life at school.
- 2:48SPEAKER_04: Good I mean, I like them.
- 2:51SPEAKER_04: I guess I'm I'm saying I don't like them, but they they give me a hard time.
- 2:54SPEAKER_10: Oh, sure.
- 2:55SPEAKER_04: And they complain about everything.
- 2:57SPEAKER_04: Uh and they're always loud and laughing at something, which is a great way to go through life, I guess.
- 3:03SPEAKER_04: Um but that won't cause problems later in life.
- 3:06SPEAKER_04: Right, exactly.
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: But um in in just a moment of and they didn't know that I heard this.
- 3:14SPEAKER_04: Um they were quiet there for a second, and then just before we got into town, one of them turned to uh the other and like a couple of people around them that said, Guys, this weekend was fun.
- 3:27SPEAKER_04: And it was like, Yeah, it was.
- 3:29SPEAKER_04: I was like, Okay, well that's worth it right there.
- 3:31SPEAKER_04: Alright.
- 3:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, good.
- 3:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:33SPEAKER_04: Mission accomplished.
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: Mission accomplished.
- 3:35SPEAKER_04: Um so what we did uh we'll we'll get to the rest of the podcast here in a second.
- 3:41SPEAKER_04: What we did was um we drove down um Sunday and went to check in the hotel.
- 3:49SPEAKER_04: This I'll I'll go through our whole itinerary, shouldn't take long.
- 3:53SPEAKER_04: Well, got to the hotel and then we drove even further to Portland.
- 3:58SPEAKER_04: So we drove to we got checked in our hotel in Augusta, then drove to Portland to um uh Merrill Auditorium, and we met some members of the Portland Symphony.
- 4:11SPEAKER_10: Oh, cool.
- 4:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and it was just us.
- 4:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:13SPEAKER_04: Uh we kind of went in and sat in the Merrill Auditorium audience, and we had four um musicians, a French horn player, a bassoon player, a viola player, and the host.
- 4:28SPEAKER_04: Uh so I guess technically it was three musicians.
- 4:31SPEAKER_04: Um and we spent about an hour or an hour and a half um just talking and and sh they were showing us um their instruments and and things.
- 4:41SPEAKER_04: And what I th I think is really cool is I would say I'm gonna say 75% of my 65 kids have never been exposed to that kind of music, um those kinds of people, those kinds of instruments, uh, never seen one up close.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: And that was worth it right there.
- 5:09SPEAKER_04: And and they were very well behaved and they're very interested in these uh musicians, so it was were really cool.
- 5:15SPEAKER_04: Then we drove and we had um dinner at uh the University of Southern Maine, and we drove back to Merrill Auditorium and Wait, wait, wait.
- 5:24SPEAKER_09: You drive all the way to Portland.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:26SPEAKER_09: And you have dinner at the college?
- 5:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it was easier that way.
- 5:31SPEAKER_04: Because of time constraints.
- 5:32SPEAKER_04: So we had Oh, okay.
- 5:34SPEAKER_04: So we had we had and the the the college um food court or whatever it was, the food services, they were closed at this time.
- 5:42SPEAKER_04: They stay they they opened themselves up for us.
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: Oh this was on a Sunday, yeah.
- 5:47SPEAKER_04: And did a did a special um limited, you know, uh service for us only.
- 5:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:54SPEAKER_04: Which was you know it really helpful because think about this.
- 5:58SPEAKER_04: We had to be back to the Merrill Auditorium before seven.
- 6:01SPEAKER_04: And uh getting 65 kids to go somewhere and eat um like without going to the mall food court and being scattered all over there.
- 6:12SPEAKER_04: Where is everybody, you know, and you know, that type of thing.
- 6:15SPEAKER_04: So they were all in one place, and it was actually kind of genius.
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: Uh and we ate and then we got on the bus and we went back to Merrill Auditorium, and we saw the Portland Symphony perform Um The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
- 6:31SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 6:31SPEAKER_09: They play the movie and then they they're played in the soundtrack line.
- 6:34SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 6:34SPEAKER_04: So the music is pulled out of the movie.
- 6:36SPEAKER_04: They take the the the dialogue is there and everything else is there, but they pull the music out and the Portland Symphony plays the music and you would not have known.
- 6:44SPEAKER_04: I mean, it was that precise.
- 6:46SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 6:47SPEAKER_04: Um and it was it was really well done.
- 6:50SPEAKER_04: Um and the kids really dug it.
- 6:53SPEAKER_04: Well, good.
- 6:53SPEAKER_04: And we actually you would be this kind of I'm not sure it'll blow your mind, but it's uh it was surprising to me, I guess.
- 7:03SPEAKER_04: But I shouldn't be, you know, it's one of those things people our age, we think, oh yeah, you you know that, but they don't.
- 7:10SPEAKER_04: No.
- 7:11SPEAKER_04: We showed them Star Wars at uh the high school like the week in the weeks before because they'd never seen it.
- 7:17SPEAKER_04: The original the original Star Wars.
- 7:18SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 7:19SPEAKER_04: They'd never seen it.
- 7:20SPEAKER_04: Not all of them.
- 7:21SPEAKER_04: Right, many had, but a good a good lot of them had not seen Star Wars.
- 7:25SPEAKER_04: And so we wanted to prepare them for this being episode five, technically, or the second movie made.
- 7:32SPEAKER_04: And so, you know, they they enjoyed the movie and uh got applause in a couple areas because we were we were um we were right down front uh for the performance, but the Merrill Auditorium was full of people and yeah, and some of them were in costume and everything, yeah, yeah.
- 7:53SPEAKER_09: You always get those, yeah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_04: But there are a couple of spots in Empire Strikes Back, so one of them is where uh Yoda says, Ah, no try.
- 8:02SPEAKER_04: Do or do or do not.
- 8:04SPEAKER_04: There is no try.
- 8:05SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 8:06SPEAKER_04: And then everybody claps.
- 8:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:07SPEAKER_04: You know, and then uh the other one is where uh they're taking Han Solo away, and Leia goes, I love you.
- 8:16SPEAKER_04: And he says, I know.
- 8:17SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 8:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:18SPEAKER_09: You know that was out of library, right?
- 8:19SPEAKER_04: Was it?
- 8:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think you I think you told me that, or somebody told me that.
- 8:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:22SPEAKER_04: Um that got applause as well.
- 8:24SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 8:24SPEAKER_09: So it was kind of a neat those classic lines, yeah.
- 8:27SPEAKER_09: You know, yeah.
- 8:28SPEAKER_04: It was kind of neat to be part of that.
- 8:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:30SPEAKER_04: You know, and I think the I think the kids, I want to say the kids was the first time they were a part of something like like that.
- 8:36SPEAKER_04: That uh nostalgia and that whole Well, you're not gonna find that up here, so no, exactly.
- 8:43SPEAKER_04: So uh and then we went back.
- 8:46SPEAKER_04: We that that was the hard part.
- 8:48SPEAKER_04: A lot of it was traveling on the bus.
- 8:51SPEAKER_04: Um, because we stayed at a hotel in Augusta.
- 8:53SPEAKER_04: So we'd drove an hour to Portland and then we drove an hour back to the hotel.
- 8:58SPEAKER_04: So we finished about 9:30, drove back to the hotel.
- 9:02SPEAKER_04: Everybody was tired, which is great, actually.
- 9:05SPEAKER_04: Went right to their rooms and to bed.
- 9:07SPEAKER_04: So it was good.
- 9:08SPEAKER_04: And then we got up on Monday, they were able to sleep in.
- 9:15SPEAKER_04: Some of them went to the pool, and what what I mean by they, not me.
- 9:20SPEAKER_04: Uh so like I said, we got back and we got in bed, but I was in bed at after midnight on Sunday night, and the pool opens at six, and some of these kids were like, I'm in a hotel, I want to go, I want to go to the pool.
- 9:35SPEAKER_04: Somebody had to be in the pool, uh, or at the pool, so chaperones took turns.
- 9:40SPEAKER_04: So we got up early, showered and everything, and and we're down at the pool.
- 9:46SPEAKER_04: And so some of them were at the pool, some of them were just sleeping in, and then let's see, what do we do?
- 9:53SPEAKER_04: Let's see what what uh we went to um we ate at the mall.
- 9:58SPEAKER_04: We ate lunch at the mall.
- 10:00SPEAKER_04: Uh so we drove another hour down to the Portland Main Mall.
- 10:04SPEAKER_09: You know, there's a mall in Augusta, right?
- 10:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, we we wanted to be in because we were going to the OSHA School of Music, which is at the University of Southern Maine.
- 10:13SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 10:13SPEAKER_04: So makes sense.
- 10:14SPEAKER_04: So we went to the mall and we we ate there, and that's right in the food court, and of course, it was raining the whole time, so we couldn't do an outdoor tour of University of Southern Maine.
- 10:24SPEAKER_04: So they said, well, let's give them a little bit more time at the mall.
- 10:28SPEAKER_04: Stick.
- 10:29SPEAKER_04: So uh everybody we and all their meals were paid for.
- 10:33SPEAKER_04: This was a great thing for the mu the music boosters paid for everything.
- 10:36SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 10:37SPEAKER_04: Um, and so we gave each of them$15.
- 10:41SPEAKER_04: They all went, had food, and then uh did a little bit of shopping, and then we had to round them up because they did a little bit of shopping.
- 10:48SPEAKER_04: I said, we want to meet back here at 1215 because we're leaving at 1230.
- 10:52SPEAKER_04: Where is so-and-so?
- 10:54SPEAKER_04: Or so well, they were last time I heard they were in hot topic.
- 10:57SPEAKER_04: Well, they're not here at 1215.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: So we had to go track people down, which is what might have happened had we not eaten at the university, right?
- 11:06SPEAKER_04: Correct.
- 11:07SPEAKER_04: So, um, and then we went to the OSHA School of Music, which is on the campus of the University of Southern Maine.
- 11:14SPEAKER_04: Uh and I I know I'm talking a lot, but I just don't want to get this out because it's fresh in my mind.
- 11:20SPEAKER_04: Um, and then uh the OSHA School of Music was fantastic, my first time there.
- 11:25SPEAKER_04: Um state-of-the-art um building soundproof, and and just so the band worked with a professor, music professor at at the OSHA school, and my chorus worked with Dr.
- 11:36SPEAKER_04: Kyle Neils Nielsen, who's the core choir director.
- 11:39SPEAKER_04: And we worked with him for like an hour and a half, and and one of the reasons that we were going down is on Tuesday the band played in the rotunda of the State House in the Capitol.
- 11:51SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 11:52SPEAKER_04: And my chorus sang the national anthem to open up the session of the main senate.
- 11:59SPEAKER_04: Um and my chorus was doing a two-part version of the Star Spangled Banner.
- 12:05SPEAKER_04: Uh, not very difficult, but my lower end, my my altos were struggling pitchwise and and remembering the the part.
- 12:13SPEAKER_04: And and so Dr.
- 12:14SPEAKER_04: Nielsen, I said, he's like, What do you want to what do you want to work on?
- 12:17SPEAKER_04: I'm like, Well, let's polish up the national anthem so we can put on a a good face, you know, for the states in it.
- 12:26SPEAKER_04: So we worked on that.
- 12:27SPEAKER_04: And some of the techniques that he taught them were very valuable, and it it was almost like night and day that he changed the vibe of the chorus and everything, so it was great.
- 12:38SPEAKER_04: Um, and then we went back to the mall and we they went shopping for a couple hours, and then a bunch of them went bowl, well, 18 of them went bowling.
- 12:48SPEAKER_04: Mr.
- 12:48SPEAKER_04: Bragdon wanted to go bowling.
- 12:50SPEAKER_04: So he he went there and took 18 kids, and the other 46 came with me to the movies.
- 12:59SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 13:00SPEAKER_04: And I don't know if you've ever been to a regal, excuse me, movie theater with the recliners and stuff.
- 13:07SPEAKER_04: No.
- 13:08SPEAKER_04: Um the you you go in, you you tell them what movie you want to see, and then you get to pick your seat.
- 13:16SPEAKER_04: And uh so it's like a like F eleven, so that's your seat in that particular theater.
- 13:24SPEAKER_04: But they didn't have uh what movie was playing what time and which theater because they had like eleven theaters or something, eleven auditoriums.
- 13:35SPEAKER_04: And so we got there and and I mean you can imagine 46 kids going through a line getting food and their ticket.
- 13:45SPEAKER_04: And what are you gonna see?
- 13:46SPEAKER_04: Well, it's gotta be PG 13 or below.
- 13:49SPEAKER_04: So most of them saw uh Hoppers or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or uh Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
- 13:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there's a oh Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.
- 13:59SPEAKER_04: I think it's like a uh The vanilla ice one?
- 14:02SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 14:02SPEAKER_04: I think it's like a uh an anniversary edition or something.
- 14:05SPEAKER_04: Oh they re-released it or something.
- 14:07SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 14:07SPEAKER_04: Uh there was one called Goat.
- 14:09SPEAKER_09: And yeah, it's the Stephen Curry movie.
- 14:12SPEAKER_04: And the and one called uh Reminders of Him, which is like a romantic.
- 14:17SPEAKER_09: So it's the people that made uh This is the End of Us.
- 14:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:21SPEAKER_04: So I didn't really feel like watching an animated one, so I got a ticket to Reminders of Him and all the all the girls and and the w female chaperones were like, oh, Mr.
- 14:30SPEAKER_04: Mosier, bring your tissues.
- 14:31SPEAKER_04: It's really sad.
- 14:32SPEAKER_04: The movie sucked.
- 14:35SPEAKER_09: I'm sorry.
- 14:36SPEAKER_09: You're right.
- 14:37SPEAKER_09: I had to bring tissues and stuff in my ears.
- 14:41SPEAKER_04: It was uh terrible acting, terrible.
- 14:45SPEAKER_04: Um I can see why they would like it, but it was it was terrible.
- 14:50SPEAKER_04: Um it's full of holes.
- 14:53SPEAKER_04: Well, I'm sure it's completely full of holes.
- 14:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:56SPEAKER_04: But um anyway, so we did that, and then we got back to the hotel, and uh they were able to kind of visit in their rooms.
- 15:06SPEAKER_04: Uh I won't go into all the there was some different, you know the trip was not without it.
- 15:13SPEAKER_04: It's hiccups.
- 15:14SPEAKER_04: I will not tell you what those were at this point.
- 15:17SPEAKER_04: Um, but suffice to say it was successful.
- 15:21SPEAKER_04: I mean, the whole thing.
- 15:22SPEAKER_04: And then we got up the next morning.
- 15:24SPEAKER_04: I got we we woke everybody up at 6 15.
- 15:28SPEAKER_05: Um, and it's not like knock knock knock, it's time to get up.
- 15:33SPEAKER_04: It's boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 15:35SPEAKER_04: And there's no answer.
- 15:37SPEAKER_04: Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 15:38SPEAKER_04: Just a second.
- 15:40SPEAKER_04: And then they open the door and I push it open.
- 15:43SPEAKER_04: Wakey wakey.
- 15:45SPEAKER_04: I go in, turn all the lights on, turn the lamp on.
- 15:49SPEAKER_04: Hi guys, time to get up.
- 15:52SPEAKER_04: Make sure you're awake.
- 15:54SPEAKER_04: This is the this is the plan for this morning.
- 15:56SPEAKER_04: You gotta do this, and they're all by this time they're sitting up in their bed.
- 15:59SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah.
- 16:00SPEAKER_04: You gotta do this, you gotta do this, you gotta do this.
- 16:02SPEAKER_04: Go get breakfast, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 16:03SPEAKER_04: We're leaving here at at 8:30 because we have to be there at this time.
- 16:07SPEAKER_04: Blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 16:08SPEAKER_04: See ya.
- 16:09SPEAKER_04: And then I walk out and I go do it to the next boys' room.
- 16:11SPEAKER_04: You know, I do all the boys' rooms.
- 16:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 16:13SPEAKER_04: But it's not like, oh, we need you to wake up, okay?
- 16:16SPEAKER_04: It's like you're waking up right now.
- 16:18SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 16:19SPEAKER_09: And so Well, if you do it the nice way, they're just gonna fall back asleep.
- 16:23SPEAKER_04: Guaranteed.
- 16:23SPEAKER_04: And that did happen to a couple of times.
- 16:24SPEAKER_04: Oh, of course.
- 16:25SPEAKER_04: Of course there's.
- 16:25SPEAKER_04: Not people that I went to, but it did happen.
- 16:28SPEAKER_04: Um, and so we got everything that we needed.
- 16:32SPEAKER_04: Band had instruments, right?
- 16:33SPEAKER_04: So they brought their instruments.
- 16:34SPEAKER_04: So uh those those were and then we we went to the Capitol.
- 16:40SPEAKER_04: And uh it was a day.
- 16:44SPEAKER_04: It was chaos because we got off the bus, the band with their instruments.
- 16:50SPEAKER_04: Well, f and uh we had to go through security, right?
- 16:54SPEAKER_04: Uh scanner or a metal detector.
- 16:56SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 16:57SPEAKER_04: And uh so you know that's something that 75 to 80 percent of these kids have never done.
- 17:03SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 17:03SPEAKER_04: You know, I what do you mean I have to give up my phone?
- 17:06SPEAKER_04: I have to just put it in the box.
- 17:07SPEAKER_04: Have you ever been on a plane?
- 17:08SPEAKER_04: Actually, no, I haven't been on a plane.
- 17:10SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 17:11SPEAKER_04: Um so put just put it in the box, they're gonna put it through, and you walk through the thing and blah blah blah.
- 17:17SPEAKER_04: And it took a long time, but but while we were there going through the metal detector, uh, one metal detector, by the way.
- 17:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 17:25SPEAKER_04: And uh another, another uh school arrives.
- 17:30SPEAKER_04: Chevrous.
- 17:31SPEAKER_04: Oh, you guys are doing yeah, you guys are doing something today too?
- 17:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, oh yeah.
- 17:36SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 17:37SPEAKER_04: We're you guys are in the Senate.
- 17:38SPEAKER_04: We're in the Senate.
- 17:39SPEAKER_04: So then were they in the house?
- 17:40SPEAKER_04: No.
- 17:41SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 17:42SPEAKER_04: Uh and then uh two basketball teams arrived.
- 17:45SPEAKER_04: Two championship basketball teams.
- 17:46SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 17:47SPEAKER_04: Uh girls and boys.
- 17:48SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 17:48SPEAKER_04: With the gold balls.
- 17:50SPEAKER_04: And because this is because the Senate doesn't ha doesn't have they're not in open session all the time.
- 17:57SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 17:58SPEAKER_04: I don't know how how often does that happen?
- 18:00SPEAKER_04: Uh a couple times a month, maybe?
- 18:02SPEAKER_09: What?
- 18:02SPEAKER_04: The their open their open session?
- 18:05SPEAKER_09: It depends on you know, workload and whatnot.
- 18:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so I don't know how many times they meet, but it's not every day.
- 18:11SPEAKER_04: No, no.
- 18:12SPEAKER_04: And so um people take this opportunity for photo ops.
- 18:15SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 18:16SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 18:16SPEAKER_04: So so we are so the band goes in first and get they go set up in the rotunda and they're playing.
- 18:24SPEAKER_04: And um we're waiting.
- 18:27SPEAKER_04: We're just kind of waiting down in the lobby.
- 18:28SPEAKER_04: We had gotten through metal the, you know, the security check.
- 18:33SPEAKER_04: And someone came to get us, brought us up to the Senate chambers, and explained to us this is what's gonna happen.
- 18:40SPEAKER_04: Um, you're gonna wait here in this little hallway, just a little hallway.
- 18:45SPEAKER_04: I had I had 30, I have 40, 40 kids.
- 18:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:48SPEAKER_04: Um and so uh we see if we can make two rows, but don't sit over here, don't sit on it, because those are for pages.
- 18:56SPEAKER_04: Uh, we need you over against the wall.
- 18:58SPEAKER_04: So and my kids are just like, you know, wide-eyed, like, what's going on?
- 19:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 19:02SPEAKER_04: And he says he explained to me what's gonna happen.
- 19:05SPEAKER_04: He says, they're gonna say a prayer.
- 19:07SPEAKER_04: Um, we're gonna close the chamber doors, they're gonna say a prayer, and they're gonna open the chamber doors.
- 19:11SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna walk you in, um, and you're gonna set set up and must bring the sergeant at arms.
- 19:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah, maybe, yeah.
- 19:21SPEAKER_04: And um you're gonna sing the national anthem, they're gonna recognize you.
- 19:26SPEAKER_04: They may recognize you before, they may recognize you after, then you're gonna turn around and uh we'll do the Pledge of Allegiance, uh, and then they may recognize you again, and and then I'll escort you out.
- 19:40SPEAKER_04: And it was really that simple.
- 19:41SPEAKER_04: And we did we didn't get a chance to warm up.
- 19:43SPEAKER_04: We were in that hallway, and I had my little my my uh pitch pipe, and I went, all right, all right, all right, let's breathe.
- 19:51SPEAKER_04: And we br we breathed and we uh did some hisses, and then I said, Alright, let's just hum.
- 19:56SPEAKER_07: Mmm.
- 19:57SPEAKER_04: This was before the whole thing started.
- 19:59SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 20:00SPEAKER_04: You know, because I wanted to get their voices warmed up to a certain extent.
- 20:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:04SPEAKER_04: And meanwhile, while we're s s standing in the hallway, uh people are going in and they're having their pictures taken with all these, you know, dignitaries and and whatnot in front of the the s the Senate and uh like the basketball teams and all this um and they start um a bell for 15 minutes it rang.
- 20:27SPEAKER_04: Didn't stop.
- 20:28SPEAKER_04: And my kids were like, Mr.
- 20:30SPEAKER_04: Mosher, that's annoying.
- 20:31SPEAKER_04: Well, why why is that?
- 20:32SPEAKER_04: And I said, That's to signify that they're be about to start session and you have 15 minutes to get there.
- 20:38SPEAKER_04: And it'll you know, it'll stop eventually.
- 20:41SPEAKER_04: And by the time it stopped, they're like and then when it did stop, it was I'm sorry, it wasn't quiet in the Senate because people are kind of shuffling in and and people are making all kinds there was like lots of noise in the hallway and everything, but you could hear my chorus when the when the bell stopped.
- 21:00SPEAKER_04: They all just went, Oh.
- 21:04SPEAKER_04: And so we did it.
- 21:06SPEAKER_04: They closed the they closed the doors, they did their thing, and then they opened the doors and he escorted us in.
- 21:11SPEAKER_04: My chorus lined up uh like they were in a chorus class in their parts.
- 21:18SPEAKER_04: It was very quiet.
- 21:20SPEAKER_04: All the senators were standing because we're doing the national anthem, right?
- 21:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and uh kind of waiting for us to to do it, and I had my pitch pipe, I gave him their note, we sang the national anthem.
- 21:31SPEAKER_04: Awesome, nice spot on, it sounded fantastic.
- 21:35SPEAKER_04: Um, thanks to Kyle Nielsen uh from the OSHA School of Music for helping kind of you know whip them into shape, and they clapped after we sang and then we turned around, we did the Pledge of Allegiance, turned back around, and the president of the Senate I don't know her name, um but she it was all very Formal.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 22:01SPEAKER_05: Someone so recognizes blah blah blah the Prescott High School chorus and blah blah blah blah blah and um you know all this is going into the Senate record.
- 22:11SPEAKER_09: Right, yeah.
- 22:11SPEAKER_09: I knew that.
- 22:12SPEAKER_09: That's why they have to do it then.
- 22:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_04: So and you know, uh please let please let them be recognized and blah blah blah.
- 22:18SPEAKER_04: And then they're they're all clapping, please.
- 22:21SPEAKER_04: And I think my kids were just like, what is going on?
- 22:25SPEAKER_04: You know, and then they walked out and I was just like, yeah, right.
- 22:31SPEAKER_04: And uh I was very proud of them because they sounded fantastic and they carried themselves well.
- 22:36SPEAKER_04: I did have one student, I'm not gonna name any names.
- 22:40SPEAKER_04: I will tell you, this is one of the hiccups and one of the frustrating things.
- 22:44SPEAKER_04: And you may think this is uh you may think this was cruel of me, but I don't care.
- 22:51SPEAKER_04: I think it was the right thing.
- 22:53SPEAKER_04: Uh this student.
- 22:56SPEAKER_04: Uh how can I how can I build this up?
- 23:01SPEAKER_04: This student.
- 23:04SPEAKER_04: Uh no, I'm not gonna build it up.
- 23:06SPEAKER_04: I'm just gonna tell you that my chorus was uh the idea of others' performances hammered home.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: Uh for weeks.
- 23:16SPEAKER_04: Weeks.
- 23:18SPEAKER_04: And I gave them all the details about it for weeks.
- 23:22SPEAKER_04: And um about what to wear, how to act, blah blah blah.
- 23:28SPEAKER_04: For weeks.
- 23:29SPEAKER_04: The itinerary.
- 23:31SPEAKER_04: This is what we're gonna do.
- 23:32SPEAKER_04: This is what we're gonna for weeks and how long was it?
- 23:38SPEAKER_04: Weeks the morning of the performance.
- 23:45SPEAKER_04: The morning of in the hotel before we go to the state house.
- 23:50SPEAKER_04: The student says, Mr.
- 23:52SPEAKER_04: Mosher, I forgot to tell you I didn't bring any black clothes.
- 23:56SPEAKER_04: That was for weeks.
- 23:59SPEAKER_04: Black pants, of course, black top, black shoes.
- 24:03SPEAKER_04: And they're wearing like a hooded sweatshirt with and like pajama pants, and you know, I mean and so I said to him, I guess you're not singing with us.
- 24:17SPEAKER_04: He's like, What?
- 24:18SPEAKER_04: You're not singing with us.
- 24:21SPEAKER_04: And he just kind of hung his head.
- 24:23SPEAKER_04: And then when we c when we came into when the when the sergeant at arms brought us in to show us where we're gonna stand before our performance.
- 24:33SPEAKER_04: The chorus came in, they lined up, they practiced lining up, and he's he comes in, you know, and I was like, I'm gonna need you to go sit over there with the chaperones.
- 24:42SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 24:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:45SPEAKER_04: So he he sat out the whole thing.
- 24:47SPEAKER_04: What you think that was wrong?
- 24:48SPEAKER_04: No.
- 24:49SPEAKER_04: I mean, the whole chorus was wearing black and he's wearing pajama pants.
- 24:54SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you're you're I mean, it's not like it's the United States Senate, but it's still this is the main state senate.
- 25:00SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 25:01SPEAKER_09: You're not I mean, you're not going in there in a hoodie and pajama pants.
- 25:05SPEAKER_05: No.
- 25:05SPEAKER_04: I mean, come on.
- 25:06SPEAKER_04: And the fact that I, you know, the fact that the rest of your classmates followed the rules.
- 25:10SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 25:11SPEAKER_04: And you didn't, you're not getting they're not getting a grade for this.
- 25:14SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 25:14SPEAKER_04: Um, they should.
- 25:17SPEAKER_09: Um but he'd be getting an F.
- 25:19SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, or at least, I mean, he would get points taken off for sure.
- 25:23SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 25:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:24SPEAKER_04: Um So anyway, it was a huge success, I think.
- 25:30SPEAKER_04: I mean, like I said, not without its hiccups, and I won't go into that, but but uh I got home and I was I was working on probably probably eight hours sleep over three days.
- 25:41SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 25:41SPEAKER_04: You know, I mean it was it was one of those things.
- 25:44SPEAKER_04: But so I got home and and uh I walk in, my daughter, of course, you know, dad, yeah, I missed you.
- 25:52SPEAKER_04: Gives me a hug, blah blah blah.
- 25:54SPEAKER_04: Wife didn't move a muscle.
- 25:55SPEAKER_04: Hey, hey, you know, and uh I just plop down and I was like, okay, I'm going to sleep.
- 26:06SPEAKER_04: And fell asleep.
- 26:08SPEAKER_04: And uh woke up and it was supper time, and then the rest is history.
- 26:12SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 26:12SPEAKER_04: That was a here we are.
- 26:14SPEAKER_04: It was a it was a it was a big three days, uh, but it's over.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: And I'm exact I'm excited for the rest of the week because tomorrow is a half day.
- 26:23SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, you got parent teacher conferences the next day is a half day, parent teacher conferences.
- 26:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the next day is there's no school.
- 26:30SPEAKER_04: We have uh teacher in service in the morning, but the afternoon I'm with you.
- 26:33SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 26:34SPEAKER_04: And we're playing some rock and roll for another school uh for the afternoon.
- 26:38SPEAKER_04: Uh and then uh Saturday night, the syndicate has our benefit show.
- 26:43SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 26:43SPEAKER_04: So I mean it's a great way to end the week.
- 26:45SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 26:46SPEAKER_04: You know, absolutely.
- 26:47SPEAKER_04: Uh so I'm excited about that.
- 26:48SPEAKER_04: I know that was a long that was a long thank you for your.
- 26:51SPEAKER_09: Well, I was working with the uh middle school resource room and they were all like, we want to do something fun.
- 26:58SPEAKER_09: And she's like, Well, we're gonna I'm gonna take you to a concert on Friday.
- 27:02SPEAKER_04: They're like, Really?
- 27:04SPEAKER_04: Wait, wait, what grade is this again?
- 27:05SPEAKER_04: This is all middle school.
- 27:06SPEAKER_04: All middle school.
- 27:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 27:07SPEAKER_09: And they're like, really?
- 27:08SPEAKER_09: She's like, Yeah, skinny Elvis.
- 27:10SPEAKER_09: One girl goes, Who's Skinny Elvis?
- 27:15SPEAKER_09: She's like, I don't like skinny elvis.
- 27:17SPEAKER_09: And I'm like, that's my band, and you just hurt my feelings.
- 27:21SPEAKER_09: And she went, Well, I mean, I never heard of skinny elvis.
- 27:25SPEAKER_09: I'm laughing the whole time.
- 27:27SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 27:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so they they know it's you though, right?
- 27:31SPEAKER_09: I think some of them do.
- 27:32SPEAKER_09: I think like they do now, but I don't think a lot of other people.
- 27:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:37SPEAKER_09: I think the band they know.
- 27:39SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 27:40SPEAKER_09: Because John's been talking about it.
- 27:42SPEAKER_09: And so uh, because it's on it's it's on John's board.
- 27:44SPEAKER_09: It's been on there for like a month or now.
- 27:47SPEAKER_04: He's excited about it.
- 27:48SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 27:48SPEAKER_04: So yeah.
- 27:50SPEAKER_09: So it should be it should it'll be fun.
- 27:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:53SPEAKER_09: I mean, we've done it a couple times before, but this will be the first time that like Mr.
- 27:57SPEAKER_04: Doug.
- 27:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's like, oh, I know you guys.
- 27:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 28:00SPEAKER_09: It's not like I'm walking into a room of oh, I know John and Joel.
- 28:04SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 28:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, so it it'll be fun.
- 28:08SPEAKER_04: It'll be it'll be extra fun this time.
- 28:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:10SPEAKER_04: You know, that now that they uh they know who you are.
- 28:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:13SPEAKER_09: So well they're I think they're just looking forward to it because you know, March is a long month.
- 28:17SPEAKER_09: There's no yeah, there's no days off, there's no the holidays or anything like that.
- 28:22SPEAKER_09: So they on Fridays they have fun, like a fun thing in the afternoon.
- 28:26SPEAKER_09: So it'll be good for them.
- 28:27SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 28:27SPEAKER_04: So um what was I gonna say?
- 28:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I don't know.
- 28:34SPEAKER_04: Um I forgot that we stopped.
- 28:37SPEAKER_04: Um let me go back to my story.
- 28:40SPEAKER_04: So we're coming back from uh Augusta.
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: We stopped in Bangor for lunch.
- 28:46SPEAKER_04: We had arranged to have lunch at this place called Heroes Um Bar and Grill.
- 28:53SPEAKER_04: I never heard of it.
- 28:54SPEAKER_04: It's down on the waterfront.
- 28:55SPEAKER_04: I don't I'd I had heard of it too, but I I didn't know where it was, and I I'd never been there.
- 29:00SPEAKER_04: Um but and they're usually closed for lunch.
- 29:03SPEAKER_04: And so uh another teacher from the high school was taking down the National Honor Society today uh to their convention and they were having lunch at Heroes, and she says, We could we could piggyback, you could stop in and have lunch there too.
- 29:20SPEAKER_04: Oh, because I know the owner.
- 29:22SPEAKER_04: And so the owner opened it up for them.
- 29:23SPEAKER_04: They had so they had pizza and all kinds of stuff all waiting for everybody.
- 29:28SPEAKER_04: Oh, nice.
- 29:28SPEAKER_04: So we walked into Heroes, and of course, there's my son because he's on the National Honor Society.
- 29:33SPEAKER_04: He didn't know that I was coming.
- 29:37SPEAKER_04: He's beating everybody at uh foosball, not foosball, air hockey, air hockey, yeah.
- 29:42SPEAKER_04: And uh, so I I didn't, but before we got there, I said, I don't know who I've never been there, I don't know where it is.
- 29:49SPEAKER_04: And then the bus pulls up to it, and I'm like, Oh, I've played here.
- 29:54SPEAKER_04: And they're like, What?
- 29:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, my band played here, but it wasn't heroes, and they're like, Oh, it must have been Jimmy V's.
- 30:01SPEAKER_04: Yes, it was Jimmy V's.
- 30:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, it was the rock docks.
- 30:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, we put we played down there once, so um, and I told Okay, I know where you're talking about now.
- 30:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's right down on the water waterfront.
- 30:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and uh, it's in the like a strip, like a strip mall or something.
- 30:13SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:14SPEAKER_04: And so I I uh the I saw the owner and I said, uh, I really like what you what you've done here.
- 30:21SPEAKER_04: This is really cool.
- 30:22SPEAKER_04: And he's like, and I told him that story.
- 30:24SPEAKER_04: I said, Yeah, I've I've played in this in this building.
- 30:27SPEAKER_04: He's like, Oh, Jimmy V's?
- 30:28SPEAKER_04: I was like, yeah.
- 30:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so um but yeah, I think Eli was a little surprised.
- 30:36SPEAKER_04: And boy, wasn't that a how can I say it was a social clash that was uh interesting because you had uh music kids, band kids, chorus kids, yeah, and National Honor Society kids, and they were like kind of commingling, which was I mean it was it was interesting to watch, but it wasn't was it like oil and water, or was it like no, not no not like oil and water.
- 31:08SPEAKER_09: I'm surprised a lot of band kids aren't in in NHS.
- 31:10SPEAKER_04: That we had three.
- 31:11SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 31:12SPEAKER_04: We had three, so that's one of the reasons that it worked out because uh we drove up from Augusta and uh we dropped off three three people for the NHS convention, so they're still down there.
- 31:25SPEAKER_04: Oh right they're coming back tomorrow, I think.
- 31:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 31:28SPEAKER_04: Um their convention is tomorrow.
- 31:30SPEAKER_04: But that's an even longer trip for those three, you know, because they were down.
- 31:33SPEAKER_04: They went down, one of them had one um Finn had a Harbor House basketball tournament this weekend.
- 31:43SPEAKER_04: So my wife took the kids down uh Friday night, had games all day Saturday, games all day Sunday, came back Sunday night.
- 31:52SPEAKER_04: This um student had games Friday and Saturday and met us on Sunday to do this trip, and then she got dropped off to do the National Honor Society.
- 32:06SPEAKER_04: So that's kind of that's an even longer.
- 32:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 32:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 32:11SPEAKER_04: So anyway.
- 32:12SPEAKER_09: That's a long week.
- 32:13SPEAKER_04: It is a long week.
- 32:14SPEAKER_04: But the good news is it's a short week for for a lot of these kids because you know, like I said, we have two half days and then no no school on Fridays.
- 32:21SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so that's good.
- 32:22SPEAKER_04: So I won't see my I won't see my chorus again until Monday.
- 32:27SPEAKER_09: It's probably actually probably good because I've had enough of you guys for a while.
- 32:31SPEAKER_09: That's probably true.
- 32:32SPEAKER_09: Hostile of Easter, lose my right.
- 32:35SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 32:35SPEAKER_04: So let's uh let's let's do some music news or s or something.
- 32:41SPEAKER_04: Because we, you know, this was I've been talking the whole time.
- 32:43SPEAKER_04: Did you have anything you want to talk about?
- 32:45SPEAKER_04: Now do I do everyone uh sometimes you do sometimes, but sometimes I'll I'll I'll I'll go to you and you're like actually, yeah, I wanted to talk about this.
- 32:52SPEAKER_04: And and yeah, I got nothing.
- 32:54SPEAKER_04: Okay, good.
- 32:55SPEAKER_04: Um so you remember how we um were making fun of Vinny Vincent?
- 32:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's$2,000 CD.
- 33:01SPEAKER_04: $2,000 CD.
- 33:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 33:03SPEAKER_04: I thought was it a CD or a song?
- 33:05SPEAKER_09: There's only one song, but it was on a CD.
- 33:07SPEAKER_04: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:08SPEAKER_04: Well, uh, there's a new development.
- 33:10SPEAKER_09: Oh boy.
- 33:14SPEAKER_09: Has he dropped the price?
- 33:16SPEAKER_04: He's raised the price.
- 33:18SPEAKER_09: What?
- 33:19SPEAKER_09: That guy.
- 33:20SPEAKER_04: Where do you hear this?
- 33:20SPEAKER_04: And I'm getting this from UltimateClassicrock.com, of course.
- 33:24SPEAKER_04: Um after failing to sell 1,000 copies of his new single at$200.
- 33:32SPEAKER_04: Who could have foreseen this?
- 33:34SPEAKER_04: Vinny Vincent is back with a new offer.
- 33:36SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 33:39SPEAKER_04: Buy the entire album for$2 million.
- 33:43SPEAKER_09: Are you freaking kidding me?
- 33:46SPEAKER_04: That's so stupid.
- 33:48SPEAKER_04: I'm not kidding you.
- 33:49SPEAKER_04: Let me read on.
- 33:51SPEAKER_04: It's more complicated than that, so let's get up to speed as quickly as possible.
- 33:55SPEAKER_04: This was written by Matthew Wilkening.
- 33:58SPEAKER_04: Late last year, the former KISS guitarist unveiled an unconventional plan to release his long-awaited new album, Guitar Mageddon.
- 34:04SPEAKER_04: He would pre-sell one song at a time for$200 per person, but only complete the sale and ship each single once they reached 1,000 sales.
- 34:14SPEAKER_04: If successful, this plan would have earned Vincent$200,000 per song, plus another$25,000 in shipping fees.
- 34:24SPEAKER_04: However, not enough people were willing to pony up, causing Vincent to threaten to shelve the album forever.
- 34:30SPEAKER_07: No.
- 34:31SPEAKER_04: And as you recall, he said, unless I get compensated for my work, the album stays unheard.
- 34:36SPEAKER_04: It comes down to this if the fan support is not there, which it does not appear to be, this record will not be released.
- 34:42SPEAKER_04: And I'm fine with that.
- 34:44SPEAKER_04: It will be the greatest album of all time, never to be heard, never to be released.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: If people want my music and think they're punishing me by not buying it because of the price, it matters not to me.
- 34:53SPEAKER_04: They're the ones who will lose out.
- 34:56unknown: Wow.
- 34:57SPEAKER_09: I mean, how does this guy get in out of buildings?
- 35:00SPEAKER_09: His head must be frickin' huge.
- 35:02SPEAKER_09: Must be the size of the Goodyear Blimp.
- 35:04SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 35:05SPEAKER_04: So a couple days ago, March 15th, uh Vincent re-emerged with a new plan.
- 35:10SPEAKER_04: The entire album was now available for two million dollars, and the buyer has the right to act like a record label by manufacturing it and selling it.
- 35:20SPEAKER_04: The arrangement brings to mind Wu Tang Clans Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.
- 35:25SPEAKER_04: The rap group only made one copy of that album and sold it for two million dollars in 2015, with the buyer agreeing not to sell any copies until 2103.
- 35:35SPEAKER_04: It's been on quite a journey since then.
- 35:38SPEAKER_04: In a Facebook post announcing his offer, Vincent explained that the buyer will get 10 songs mixed in master final product format, all the master files of the artwork related posters, and ten separate vinyl and CD packaging art for each individual song, should the buyer choose to release the album on a per song basis.
- 35:57SPEAKER_04: The buyer can choose to release the entire album in any format they desire, vinyl, CD, or any other configuration, in whole or in part at their discretion.
- 36:04SPEAKER_04: The price will also include a perpetual license to use the brand name Vinnie Vincent Invasion and Vinnie Vincent for the life of the album.
- 36:11SPEAKER_04: Now for the fine print.
- 36:14SPEAKER_04: Basically, he's he doesn't have a record deal.
- 36:16SPEAKER_10: Obviously.
- 36:17SPEAKER_04: So he's looking for a record deal.
- 36:22SPEAKER_04: Now for the fine print.
- 36:23SPEAKER_04: All marketing plans and ideas require approval by Vinnie Vincent.
- 36:27SPEAKER_04: The price does not include any right, title, or interest in the copyrights and or trademarks related to Vinnie Vincent or the product itself.
- 36:33SPEAKER_04: If the buyer wishes to purchase any associated rights in the compositions, a separate agreement can be arranged and negotiated.
- 36:39SPEAKER_04: So if it was a record company, they would own the product.
- 36:43SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 36:44SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 36:44SPEAKER_04: So he's not giving them the rights and the license to the product.
- 36:49SPEAKER_04: He's giving them the right to manufacture it and sell it and make money from it.
- 36:53SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 36:54SPEAKER_04: Given that he gets paid his two million dollars, plus he would probably make all any all royalties.
- 37:00SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 37:02SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 37:03SPEAKER_04: The offer does not specify that the buyer will be granted exclusive distribution rights, nor does it state how long the life of the album is, or what kind of marketing plans and ideas will and won't be approved by Vincent.
- 37:15SPEAKER_04: So those are just a few of the questions you might want to run by your lawyer before purchasing purchasing arm Guitar Mageddon at Vinny Vincent's official website.
- 37:24SPEAKER_09: I just don't um This may be this may go down in history of one of the stupidest ideas ever.
- 37:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I I I just don't get uh what he is going for here.
- 37:39SPEAKER_09: Um if he's looking to to um I wonder if he's suffering some from some sort of uh brain disorder.
- 37:47SPEAKER_04: Like any publicity is good publicity uh or you know something like that.
- 37:55SPEAKER_09: Um Yeah, but who's the moron that's gonna pay Vinnie Vincent.
- 38:02SPEAKER_04: There are morons with two million dollars that would do something like that.
- 38:06SPEAKER_09: But I'd like to think they're a little smarter than that.
- 38:11SPEAKER_04: I say stay tuned.
- 38:13SPEAKER_04: I say, you know, we we we say to ourselves, there's no idiot out there that will do this.
- 38:19SPEAKER_04: But I bet there is.
- 38:20SPEAKER_09: There probably is one, yeah.
- 38:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I bet there is.
- 38:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:23SPEAKER_04: Um along those same lines, uh Gene Simmons from KISS.
- 38:29SPEAKER_04: Of course, if if you didn't know Vinnie Vincent was in KISS for like five minutes.
- 38:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:34SPEAKER_04: Um, that's where he got his name.
- 38:36SPEAKER_04: Uh Vinnie Vincent Invasion came after Kiss, but uh I don't even think besides, I mean, besides having Mark Slaughter in it, uh, and then Mark Slaughter going on to start Slaughter, I don't know that there's anything there wasn't any hit songs from Vinnie Vincent Invasion, were there?
- 38:52SPEAKER_09: None that I can.
- 38:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I can't think of any.
- 38:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:54SPEAKER_04: Um anyway, Gene Simmons reveals KISS' latest plans.
- 38:58SPEAKER_04: Uh, let's see.
- 38:59SPEAKER_04: A long-awaited rock and brews restaurant this week in uh Detroit Rock City.
- 39:03SPEAKER_04: Uh despite its retirement from touring in 2023, they've got plenty more on its docket in the not too distant future.
- 39:10SPEAKER_04: I have to say, I have to hand it to KISS.
- 39:15SPEAKER_04: They have made more money from business deals and merchandising than they've made from their music.
- 39:23SPEAKER_09: Well, that's why they're smart.
- 39:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 39:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 39:26SPEAKER_09: I mean, yeah, the music's music's okay.
- 39:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 39:30SPEAKER_09: But it's all the everything it's everything else.
- 39:32SPEAKER_09: I mean, they've had lunch boxes and dolls and costumes and Saturday morning cartoons.
- 39:39SPEAKER_09: I mean, you know.
- 39:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 39:40SPEAKER_09: I mean, they really did it right.
- 39:42SPEAKER_09: So.
- 39:43SPEAKER_04: Um, and I I love the way, you know, love him or hate him, the way Gene Simmons explains things uh is quite entertaining in and of itself.
- 39:51SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 39:52SPEAKER_04: So Gene Simmons said, um, more is good, the bass playing demon says of what's coming.
- 40:01SPEAKER_04: It's like if you go to into Tiffany's and ask the guy at the front door, do you have any jewelry?
- 40:05SPEAKER_04: Of course the answer is yes.
- 40:06SPEAKER_04: And if you say, What have you got?
- 40:08SPEAKER_04: It's tough to answer because there's so many things.
- 40:12SPEAKER_04: We're working really hard, all of us, in making sure that the quality of everything will blow you away because over the years the fans have been expecting not the norm, but the extra norm.
- 40:21SPEAKER_04: In many ways, KISS was the caterpillar that went into the cocoon, and you think that's the end, but it's really the beginning.
- 40:28SPEAKER_04: We're going to go where no band has gone before.
- 40:32SPEAKER_04: So we're going to blow your socks off in a way multiple times more exciting than the sphere.
- 40:37SPEAKER_04: Uh, people will go to Vegas to see a show in the sphere, are awed by the massive scale of everything.
- 40:41SPEAKER_04: There's nothing wrong with the sphere, but I'll go out on a limb and make sure people understand this.
- 40:46SPEAKER_04: The KISS Avatars is gonna make that seem like popcorn a popcorn fart.
- 40:52SPEAKER_04: It'll be mind-blowing.
- 40:54SPEAKER_04: You know, more power to them.
- 40:56SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 40:57SPEAKER_04: Uh movies and cartoons are coming up.
- 41:00SPEAKER_04: Uh they've got all kinds of um plans.
- 41:04SPEAKER_04: So it'll be interesting to see what is next for KISS.
- 41:07SPEAKER_04: But I know uh KISS will not be taking Vinny Vincent under their wing uh and helping him sell his album.
- 41:13SPEAKER_04: I know that's for sure.
- 41:15SPEAKER_10: No.
- 41:16SPEAKER_10: No, no.
- 41:17SPEAKER_04: Um that's all I had for news.
- 41:19SPEAKER_04: Most of the other news was uh just people announcing tours.
- 41:22SPEAKER_04: Um there was nothing really other other than that and interesting.
- 41:27SPEAKER_07: Sorry.
- 41:27SPEAKER_04: I think we're just gonna move ahead and unless you had something else.
- 41:32SPEAKER_04: I got nothing.
- 41:33SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 41:33SPEAKER_04: Uh I want to move ahead and uh do the um poorly explained 80s movies.
- 41:40SPEAKER_04: So let's get uh let's get some music.
- 41:43SPEAKER_04: Let's get some background music here.
- 41:48SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's because it's what uh there we go.
- 41:54SPEAKER_04: That's what I'm talking about.
- 41:56SPEAKER_04: Oh wait.
- 41:59SPEAKER_09: I was about to say something funny.
- 42:01SPEAKER_04: There, that's best.
- 42:02SPEAKER_04: That's better.
- 42:04SPEAKER_04: One of these days I'm gonna figure this out and then we're gonna take it all apart.
- 42:07SPEAKER_10: Nah yeah.
- 42:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, let's see.
- 42:10SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna do what I did before.
- 42:12SPEAKER_04: I'll pick three that I think you'll know.
- 42:14SPEAKER_04: And one that I don't think you'll know.
- 42:17SPEAKER_04: I think you might know that.
- 42:21SPEAKER_04: Um.
- 42:23SPEAKER_04: I don't know if I've already done that one or not.
- 42:25SPEAKER_04: Let's see.
- 42:27SPEAKER_04: I think you'll know that.
- 42:32SPEAKER_04: Oh, I know.
- 42:33SPEAKER_04: I know you'll know that.
- 42:36SPEAKER_04: That one, I think you might.
- 42:39SPEAKER_04: Oh no, you did we did do that one.
- 42:46SPEAKER_04: Okay, I don't think you'll know that one.
- 42:48SPEAKER_04: Alright.
- 42:49SPEAKER_04: I got him.
- 42:50SPEAKER_04: Alright.
- 42:50SPEAKER_04: And what's this what I like about this is I'm picking these these movies in front of you.
- 42:55SPEAKER_04: So you know that I'm not setting anything up.
- 42:57SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 42:58SPEAKER_04: Uh I don't know why I put the cover on that.
- 43:01SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 43:03SPEAKER_10: So.
- 43:07SPEAKER_04: I know that you're gonna get this one.
- 43:12SPEAKER_04: Well, I say that.
- 43:14SPEAKER_04: I know you know this movie.
- 43:15SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 43:16SPEAKER_04: Whether you get it or not, I don't know.
- 43:18SPEAKER_09: That's another story.
- 43:21SPEAKER_04: No, I think you'll get this one.
- 43:23SPEAKER_04: I'm reading the the explanation right now.
- 43:25SPEAKER_04: All right, Poorly Explained movies, 80s edition.
- 43:28SPEAKER_04: Number one.
- 43:29SPEAKER_04: A man tries to save a jelly donut for later.
- 43:34SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 43:34SPEAKER_09: Uh full metal jacket.
- 43:37SPEAKER_05: See, I told you.
- 43:38SPEAKER_05: I knew you were gonna get that.
- 43:39SPEAKER_09: A jelly donut.
- 43:43SPEAKER_09: Um Why can't we have jelly donuts, Private Power?
- 43:46SPEAKER_09: Because I'm too heavy, sir.
- 43:48SPEAKER_09: You are a disgusting fat body pile.
- 43:52SPEAKER_04: I've seen that movie once or twice.
- 43:54SPEAKER_04: Uh um the you know, the one thing that s sticks in my head from that movie is um Vincent D'Anafrio.
- 44:01SPEAKER_04: And that.
- 44:04SPEAKER_04: I joker.
- 44:05SPEAKER_04: And the look on his face.
- 44:06SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 44:06SPEAKER_09: That is one of the creepiest.
- 44:08SPEAKER_06: Oh.
- 44:10SPEAKER_04: Mentally ill.
- 44:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: I mean, yeah.
- 44:13SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 44:13SPEAKER_04: Um, number two.
- 44:16SPEAKER_04: Uh, I think you'll get this.
- 44:21SPEAKER_04: A scientist tries to make a lady really wet.
- 44:28SPEAKER_09: Splash.
- 44:31SPEAKER_09: See?
- 44:33SPEAKER_04: Uh, the hint is she's a great swimmer.
- 44:36SPEAKER_09: Yeah, obviously.
- 44:38SPEAKER_09: Daryl Hannah.
- 44:39SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 44:39SPEAKER_09: She's a great swimmer for a couple reasons.
- 44:42SPEAKER_04: Um, all right, number three.
- 44:45SPEAKER_04: A secretary almost poisons a rat.
- 44:58SPEAKER_09: Secretary almost poisons a rat.
- 45:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:01SPEAKER_04: Not a rat a real rat.
- 45:04SPEAKER_04: A secretary almost poisons a rat.
- 45:06SPEAKER_04: Here's the hint.
- 45:08SPEAKER_04: With a cup of coffee.
- 45:13SPEAKER_04: I think secretary.
- 45:16SPEAKER_09: Is it a basic instinct?
- 45:17SPEAKER_04: Nope.
- 45:18SPEAKER_04: You're in an office situation.
- 45:20SPEAKER_04: A secretary almost poisons a rat with a cup of coffee.
- 45:23SPEAKER_04: 1980.
- 45:28SPEAKER_04: Tootie?
- 45:29SPEAKER_04: Nope.
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: You mean Tootsie?
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: Tootsie.
- 45:31SPEAKER_04: No, no, no, no.
- 45:33SPEAKER_09: Nine to five.
- 45:35SPEAKER_04: That's one.
- 45:36SPEAKER_04: See?
- 45:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:36SPEAKER_04: If I just gave you a little more time, you'd get it.
- 45:39SPEAKER_04: Alright, here's the one I don't think you'll get.
- 45:41SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 45:42SPEAKER_04: Um but I say that and you may get it.
- 45:48SPEAKER_04: Everything's possible.
- 45:49SPEAKER_04: Here is the description.
- 45:52SPEAKER_04: An antiques dealer has a sword fight in a garage.
- 45:58SPEAKER_09: Highlander.
- 46:02SPEAKER_04: It started 350 years ago.
- 46:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:04SPEAKER_04: 1986.
- 46:05SPEAKER_04: Is that one?
- 46:06SPEAKER_04: Yes, you got it.
- 46:07SPEAKER_09: It's a great movie, but it was a great movie at the time, but when you watch it later, you're like, man, this is so stupid.
- 46:16SPEAKER_04: Cheesy, too.
- 46:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's really bad.
- 46:18SPEAKER_09: That freaking costume that Sean Connery's wearing, it's like, are you some sort of like M Y M C A pirate?
- 46:24SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 46:24SPEAKER_09: What's what's going on, man?
- 46:26SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 46:27SPEAKER_04: Um.
- 46:28SPEAKER_04: Alright.
- 46:28SPEAKER_04: Are you ready for this?
- 46:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:31SPEAKER_04: Are you sure you're ready for this?
- 46:33SPEAKER_04: Do we have the uh her um?
- 46:36SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 46:37SPEAKER_09: Everybody is checked in.
- 46:38SPEAKER_04: They have.
- 46:39SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 46:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:39SPEAKER_04: So let's go ahead.
- 46:41SPEAKER_04: Let's do this.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: It's time for everyone's favorite part of the show.
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: With everyone's favorites, O'Brien, Doug, Cousin Larry, and yours truly, Miss Judge Ness.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: Judge Ness, Judge Ness.
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: It's time to play mixtape, mixtape.
- 46:59SPEAKER_04: Mixtape.
- 47:00SPEAKER_09: Mixtape!
- 47:01SPEAKER_04: It's one of my favorite parts of the podcast to be honest with you.
- 47:05SPEAKER_09: Well, it's like it's like an all hands on deck kind of thing.
- 47:08SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 47:09SPEAKER_09: You know, everybody's involved.
- 47:11SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 47:12SPEAKER_09: So let's do it.
- 47:17SPEAKER_04: Let me turn this up here.
- 47:21SPEAKER_04: Let me know when you're ready.
- 47:23SPEAKER_04: Gonna go do the past first, so we're gonna hear from Miss Judgeness.
- 47:26SPEAKER_09: Miss Judgeness herself again.
- 47:29SPEAKER_09: And here we go.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: Hey guys! Uh I was actually just getting ready to message you.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: I do have a verdict.
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: Uh that was probably one of my favorite weeks of mixtape picks.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: Those were freaking hilarious.
- 47:43SPEAKER_00: I love them.
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: Um shout out to Cousin Larry's Pick.
- 47:48SPEAKER_00: Uh that was a great song defending the almo, but I just had way more fun with O'Brien and Doug's picks.
- 47:55SPEAKER_00: Um really hard to pick between the two because both are hilarious, and I appreciated the hilarity out of it.
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: Um, but not just to keep much up, but I did really like um O'Brien's pick this week.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: Doug's was definitely a close second.
- 48:10SPEAKER_00: Uh they were just they were hilarious.
- 48:12SPEAKER_00: Uh so super excited for this week.
- 48:14SPEAKER_00: Have a great podcast.
- 48:16SPEAKER_04: Uh, and and what did I pick?
- 48:18SPEAKER_04: I don't remember what it was the Alamo one.
- 48:20SPEAKER_04: What did I pick?
- 48:21SPEAKER_09: I don't remember what you picked.
- 48:23SPEAKER_04: So sad.
- 48:25SPEAKER_04: It was like a week ago.
- 48:26SPEAKER_09: Well, I picked the uh Monty Python uh Life of Bryant.
- 48:30SPEAKER_09: Life of Bryant, and I picked You picked something similar along that same lines.
- 48:34SPEAKER_09: Yes, and I told you.
- 48:34SPEAKER_09: I can't remember what it was.
- 48:35SPEAKER_04: I can't remember what it was.
- 48:36SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's so sad.
- 48:39SPEAKER_04: Uh I guess it doesn't matter.
- 48:43SPEAKER_04: I won.
- 48:44SPEAKER_04: It doesn't matter.
- 48:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 48:46SPEAKER_09: Because you because you you were mad at her last week.
- 48:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:50SPEAKER_04: And she she did, plus she did clarify that this isn't just because I appreciate that.
- 48:56SPEAKER_04: Um Yeah, I wish I would remember what I picked.
- 48:59SPEAKER_04: It would that's so sad.
- 49:00SPEAKER_04: My memory is shot.
- 49:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, mine is too.
- 49:03SPEAKER_04: Um The Alamo, you did you picked always look on the bright side of life.
- 49:10SPEAKER_04: Uh, and mine was along those lines.
- 49:14SPEAKER_04: And uh it doesn't matter.
- 49:16SPEAKER_09: What was it?
- 49:20SPEAKER_04: Maybe she maybe she remembers.
- 49:21SPEAKER_04: It's really gonna bother me.
- 49:23SPEAKER_04: Um I'm not I'm not I can finish the podcast without it, but it's gonna bother me.
- 49:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, she'll she'll probably uh I'll have to go back and listen to the last last episode and and figure out what it was because holy cow.
- 49:38SPEAKER_04: You're defending the animal, right?
- 49:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 49:41SPEAKER_04: And always look on the bright side of that.
- 49:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you you went you went you went similar to what I did.
- 49:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 49:47SPEAKER_09: Like uh silly.
- 49:49SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 49:51SPEAKER_04: Uh it doesn't matter.
- 49:53SPEAKER_09: It'll it'll come back.
- 49:54SPEAKER_04: Okay, so that's the past.
- 49:55SPEAKER_04: Let's do the present.
- 49:56SPEAKER_04: What was the uh what was the question?
- 49:57SPEAKER_09: That's a good question.
- 49:59SPEAKER_04: Uh oh, best relationship makeup song.
- 50:06SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 50:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:07SPEAKER_04: Got it.
- 50:08SPEAKER_04: Best relationship makeup song.
- 50:10SPEAKER_04: So what did uh cousin Lowry pick?
- 50:15SPEAKER_09: Okay, well, here's what he said.
- 50:17SPEAKER_09: Make tape.
- 50:19SPEAKER_09: Well, being a young teen in the late 70s, the first song I thought of from one of the old K Tel albums.
- 50:25SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that brings back some remote.
- 50:27SPEAKER_09: Wow, I had some was Reunited by Peaches and Herb.
- 50:30SPEAKER_09: Another 70s classic I thought of was the Sappy Love Will Love Will Keep Us Together by Captain Tenil.
- 50:38SPEAKER_09: But I think I've got to go with a song where the guy is trying to get the girl back, not where the where they have already gotten back together.
- 50:46SPEAKER_09: Ain't Too Proud to Beg by the Temptations or the Stones version.
- 50:50SPEAKER_09: I love that.
- 50:50SPEAKER_09: It's some classic begging.
- 50:52SPEAKER_09: Honorable mention to Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive because it says to heck with making up.
- 50:58SPEAKER_09: LOL.
- 51:01SPEAKER_04: Sorry, that was a commercial.
- 51:02SPEAKER_04: Uh Ain't Too Proud to Beg is a great song.
- 51:04SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's a great song.
- 51:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 51:06SPEAKER_13: I know you will be to let you go.
- 51:23SPEAKER_03: You know, you just can't go wrong with this kind of music.
- 51:27SPEAKER_03: Oh, what was it?
- 51:28SPEAKER_09: It was Bob and Doug Mackenzie.
- 51:30SPEAKER_03: Take off, take off.
- 51:38SPEAKER_04: Take off me, take off it.
- 51:40SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 51:41SPEAKER_04: That would have bothered me on the whole time.
- 51:48SPEAKER_04: Music, man, it just puts me in a good mood.
- 51:55SPEAKER_04: Especially when you listen to it in headphones.
- 51:57SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 51:58SPEAKER_04: Motown is great like that.
- 52:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 52:01SPEAKER_09: The fuck brothers.
- 52:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah, man.
- 52:04SPEAKER_04: Alright, what was yours?
- 52:06SPEAKER_09: Uh well, in the same vein as Motown.
- 52:12SPEAKER_04: Okay.

- 59:33SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 59:33SPEAKER_09: So you gonna make it up?
- 59:34SPEAKER_09: No.
- 59:35SPEAKER_09: This this actually happened.
- 59:36SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 59:36SPEAKER_09: I thought maybe one of the funniest things I've ever seen a middle schooler do.
- 59:41SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 59:41SPEAKER_09: Um, I was in the uh I was in the room and they were doing a uh because it was St.
- 59:46SPEAKER_09: Patrick's Day.
- 59:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so she gave them a uh uh word search to do for, you know, all St.
- 59:53SPEAKER_09: Patrick's Day related.
- 59:54SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 59:55SPEAKER_09: And there was two kids sitting.
- 59:57SPEAKER_09: I was I was sitting at the end of a table and there was two kids sitting, there was like a whole line of them.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_09: There was two of them sitting there, and they're friends, and they were they were like doing it together.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_09: And uh so one of us, they're both they're both looking at this thing, and then it's like one of them goes, Oh look, I found Simon.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_09: And the other kid goes, where?
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_09: And he points to him, he goes, right there.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_09: I freaking started laughing.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_09: I was like, that's a good one.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_09: That was a good one.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_04: That's why I guess it's something that we would do too.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_09: I was like, man, I'm jealous, I never thought of that.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_09: So so that was pretty funny.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_04: Um I was trying to think of uh something funny.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_04: Oh, well, I will tell you.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_04: Let me tell you this story about one uh something that happened on the trip.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_04: Um so we're in the mall, and I had just brought a group of kids back because in the main because the main mall is here, and then over here is Bam.
- 1:00:59unknown: Right.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_04: Books Million, separate building.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_04: And some of them wanted to go, and I said, All right, I mean, twist my arm.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_04: I love going to Bam.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_09: Oh no, I've never been there.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_09: So I'm like, Mr.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_04: Moser's going to Bam, so if you want to go, come with me.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_04: So we started there and then we finished there and we went back to the mall.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_04: So I'm breaking off.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_09: It's like walking distance, right?
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_04: So I'm breaking off when we get into the mall.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_04: I'm breaking off with that group.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_04: I was like, you know, stay with a buddy, you know, you can go shopping or whatever, but stay with a buddy.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_04: And so I'm walking by myself now through the mall.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_04: And I see we had had some bus trouble a little bit, not major bus trouble, but I had seen our bus drive.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_09: Oh, did you have the uh the fancy bus or like the school bus?
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_04: No, we had a new school bus.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_09: It was relatively new school bus, but you didn't get the fancy bus really?
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_04: The big blue?
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_09: No.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_04: No, they don't only take that on special occasions and they don't take it very far because it will break down.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's one of those.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_04: Um so I see the bus driver, uh, her name's Andrea.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_04: She's walking towards me.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_04: And if you've been in the main mall lately, they have some stores, especially like women's beauty stores, they have people outside the store handing out pamphlets and doing sales pitches and things like that.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_04: And you just usually, no thank you, and you walk by.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_04: Well, Andrea, sweetheart, the guy starts talking to her.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, take this, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_04: And he starts talking to her and she's listening to him.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_04: She's like getting roped in.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_04: And I was gonna ask her, did she figure out the bus problem?
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_04: So I walk up to her and I'm kind of like and she's talking to the guy.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_04: So the guy thinks that we're together.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_04: And and he's looking at me and he's talking to her, and then he points at me and he goes, Would you come and be the judge?
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_04: And I put on an accent because I wanna say he's not m uh not Middle Eastern.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_04: Might be Indian, maybe from India.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_04: Oh, sure.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_04: Maybe, I don't know.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_04: Um Would you come and be the judge?
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_04: I'm like, uh, I guess.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_04: And so he brought us in, he sat her down, and then he put a chair next to her, he says, You sit up.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_04: And he proceeds to go off on this sales pitch uh about this uh rejuvenating cream right and she says, Do you mind if I try it on you?
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_04: She's like, Yeah, sure, whatever.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_04: You know, Andrea's just like the s the simplest person, she's just like you know and so so uh he puts this thing under her eyes and take away the wrinkles under your eyes.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_04: And and he says, Look at that, can you can you tell me so I look, oh no no, that does I mean it looks like it's you know done its job and he shows her in a mirror and stuff like that, and we're kind of poking fun at him.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_04: You know, I'm like, You're really good at your job, but you know, we're not buying today.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_04: She says the same thing.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_04: She says, I I can't afford it, you know.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_04: And he goes, Do you know how much this is?
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_04: And d dog, I'm telling you, it was a tube this big tube of cream.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_04: And he says, Do you know how much this is in in Times Square in New York?
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_04: Uh no.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_04: So he looks it up on his phone.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_04: Thirteen hundred dollars.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_04: And I said, For a tube like that?
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, thirteen hundred dollars.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_04: And he says, Do you know how much it is to buy to buy this, uh, you know, whatever?
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_04: And I said, seven hundred dollars for you today.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_04: Special price.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_04: I was like, for that tube?
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_04: Four hundred dollars.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_04: Uh she's a bus driver.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_04: I'm a teacher.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_04: We're you're really good at your job, but we're not buying today.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_04: And he kept going.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_04: Of course he did.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_04: And and and he's he's like, I I will throw in this.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_04: So no, no, no.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_04: I will tell you what, I will give you my special discount.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_04: So he puts in his 30% discount or whatever it is.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_04: $250.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_04: No.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_04: And so he's like, I'll throw this in and I will get you this fancy bag.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_04: So there's this bag that you can carry, and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_04: And she's of course like, I no, I can't, I can't afford I can't afford this.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_04: Well, let me show you this cream.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_04: So he takes this other cream and he puts it on the top of her eye.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_04: Look at this.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_04: Do you see this makes a difference?
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_04: I'm like, I guess he says, I would throw this in$250.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_04: She's like, No.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_04: And then she's like, I gotta call Lori, which is the other bus driver, and and uh get her down here because she'll buy this stuff.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_04: So she texts Lori.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_04: And and then as he's still talking, uh, Lori calls.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_04: And I take I take this is Andrea's phone.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_04: Who is this with Andrea's phone?
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_04: I said, Well, this is Brian.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_04: I was like, Oh, what's what's going on?
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_04: And I was like, Oh, nothing.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_04: They're just trying to sell her something, and she thought that you would be interested.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_04: And she's like, Where are you?
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_04: So I told her where where we were.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_04: So she makes her way down and so I c I kinda get up and I walk outside this door and I'm talking to to Lori.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_04: And and before I know it, Andrea is getting up and walking over to the cash register.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_08: I'm like, what is going on?
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_08: What is he doing?
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_08: What is this?
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_04: And I swear I'm talking still talking to Lori.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_04: I'm watching this going on.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_04: She's showing out cash.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_04: And he and then I can I see he's showing her the fancy bag that he's gonna give her, and he's explaining how she can carry it.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_04: He's like, he's really good at his job.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_04: Anyway, she paid a hundred bucks for one of the something.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_04: I don't know, I don't even know what she got.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_04: She paid a hundred bucks.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_04: And she comes out and she tries to to you know um ti kind of nullify any judgment of her by saying, I never buy anything for myself.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_04: And I said, You got snookered and you know you gotta take her a hundred dollars for a thing of cream or whatever.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_04: And so it became a running joke after that.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_04: And she goes, uh, we were on our way back, and uh she's driving, and I'm sitting behind her, obviously.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_04: And she she says, uh she said, Mr.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_04: Marshall, do you do you uh what did she say?
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_04: Have you seen my chapstick or something?
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_04: I can't remember what she said.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_04: I said, Yes, yes, Andrea, I'm rubbing it under my eyes.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_04: It became a running joke.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you can have it for 100 boxes.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_04: Anyway, um so I I say all that to say I have an album.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_04: And uh let the guessing begin.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_04: Is it a band?
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_09: Rock band?
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_09: High popularity.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_09: How many people in this?
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_05: One, two, three, four.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_05: Five, five.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_09: Does it involve does it involve Yeah, five.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_09: Five, and does it involve half-dressed women?
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_09: No.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_04: Oh no.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_09: Are they are they uh like grungy or are they Nope.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_09: Like pop rock or pop rock rock.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_05: Blue blues pop rock, I guess.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_04: Well, more pop rock.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_04: Big choruses.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_04: Um I think.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_04: Um I think the lead singer described uh their music as singer-songwriter music with an edge.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_04: Um they started the I think they can they can claim this.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_04: They started the you're gonna get it.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_04: They they started the cruise phenomenon.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_04: Like a band cruise.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_04: They did the they they spearheaded this cruise and they took it with their fans.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_04: And I have no idea people kinda picked up on that, and then you see all these other cruises now.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_09: What are you calling that?
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_09: Oh, uh, Sister Hazel.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_09: Oh, geez.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_09: I was like, I could see the band in my head.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_09: I was like, I know these guys, I love these guys.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_09: What's their freaking name?
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, that's a great album.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_04: Chasing Daylight.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_04: Uh and maybe we've done this before.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_09: You know, I we've done I think we've done Sister Hazel before.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think so too.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_04: I think so too.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_04: Um and maybe we've done this recently.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_04: Uh I don't know.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_09: I don't think we've done it recently.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_09: No.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_04: Um This is an album that had um, I don't know, two or three songs that lyrically to me were just fantastic.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_04: Uh and this and and singles too.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_04: So so this one, I thought lyrically.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah, this is only the third time we've done it, but it's been a while.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_04: I bet we've done this album, but that's okay.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_14: Great song.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_14: I wanna be ready.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_04: I wanna be everything except for your mistake.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_04: That's awesome.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_04: Right?
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_04: Such a good song.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_04: Oops.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_04: So I was telling you about that they started the cruise rock.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_04: They started the rock boat.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_09: I didn't know that.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_04: Um, and they used to take their fans hazelnuts uh on this cruise, and then before you know it, there's a Kiss Cruise, and there's a there's a Blues Cruise, and you know, all these different music-related uh cruises where fans can meet up with their favorite artists.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_04: But they started it.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_04: It was they were the first ones to do it.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_04: I didn't know that.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_04: Um Sister Hazel had uh bunch of has a bunch of great albums.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_04: And and like we said, still going.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_04: Still going, still making uh a living doing this.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_04: And um it is and and Ken Block, who's the lead singer, one of the lead singers, the other one is Drew Copeland, um said it one time.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_04: There's singers, it's singer-songwriter songs.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_04: Just with an edge, right and with a rock band.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's uh that's a that's a good description.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_04: I would say that's accurate.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_04: Um that was a single, your mistake, and this one.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_14: I fell down and folded stairs, stole away my oxygen, left this down and breath this there with you.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_14: The ocean wrapped around the sun, the smell of juice, taste of your tongue.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_09: I heard that differently.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_09: I was like, nah, it's nobody's dad, but clear.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_09: Sounds like clear.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_03: So this one is come around.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_04: Um, that was a single.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_04: And my favorite one on this album.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_04: I mean, I like a lot of this.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_04: Well, actually, I'm not gonna play my favorite one yet.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_04: This one is called Everybody.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_04: This is their vibe right here.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_04: Because they're they're Florida boys.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_04: And very um hard and too up and fun, and they got a lot of songs like this.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_04: Don't get me wrong, they have a lot of poignant songs and and very uh uh hard-hitting songs, yeah, I think.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_04: But they're they're a lot like Hootie.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_04: They're they're a uh just a bunch of regular guys.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_04: Party, you know.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_04: Everybody and that uh concert DVD that they put out that I I have, I can't remember what it's called.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_04: Everybody, everybody is a perfect illustration of that.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_04: That's a song called Everybody, and this is Swan Dive.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_04: That's Ryan Newell on guitar.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_04: You've seen them in concert, haven't you?
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_09: I've seen the concert DVD.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_05: Oh, so you haven't seen them in concert?
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_05: No, that's Chain?
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_05: Shane must have.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah, him and Josh went.
- 1:15:18SPEAKER_05: That's what I thought.
- 1:15:18SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_04: It's the first time we've we've heard Drew Copeland.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_04: So Drew Copeland is the high harmony on most of these.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_04: Alright, now I'll play my favorite song in this album.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_04: This album, by the way, is called Chasing Daylight.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_04: I don't know if I said that wrong.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you did, did I?
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_04: Uh this is Life Got In the Way.
- 1:16:17SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, that's a good song.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_02: Do it all from a little thing, it was everything in our first minute.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_02: And it took us to another place, yeah, another place, and we felt imminent.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_02: And didn't I remember you always born every little thing, every little thing we want the best?
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's my favorite song on the album.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_04: Mine's uh Sword and Shield.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_04: Oh, I'll play I'll play a little bit of ladies of soul.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_04: Sword and Shield.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_14: Just when the sky runs out of rain, just when the sun runs out of light, just when the earth is ill with pain, just when your body is out of fight, I will be there, I will be the smallest piece and everything, and I would give my life before I break this promise to you.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_04: I do want to show you uh because Ken Block is is technically the lead singer.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_04: I mean, he sang on all those songs that you just heard.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_04: Um Drew Copeland is the harmony singer, but then on every album, just about every uh Sister Hazel album, Drew's got a couple songs where he sings lead, and I love Ken Block's voice.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_04: I happen to love Drew's voice more.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_04: It's just because it's I don't know.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_04: I just it's like I I you know I loved Bon Jovi.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_04: I like Richie's voice better.
- 1:19:15SPEAKER_04: You know, I don't I'm not sure what it is, but let me just so I'm gonna jump to a different album and show you um show you what uh Drew Copeland's Andrew Copeland's voice sounds like.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_04: So this is This is from Lighter in the Dark, uh, the album, and this is something to believe in.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_04: Drew Copeland on vocals.
- 1:19:36SPEAKER_12: I'm not the king of America, I've got a blue-collar heart, put together with rusted old bolts and discarded radio parts.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_12: Just a kid from Gainesville watching Petty with my lighter in the dark.
- 1:19:51SPEAKER_12: Yeah, and I've done all the wrong things for all the right reasons, and all the right things all the wrong seasons.
- 1:20:03SPEAKER_12: Just like you, man, in an uphill fight.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I think the red storm.
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_12: They keep telling me you won't get too bad.
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_12: Without no way, I don't know who you got.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so uh Drew Copeland's got like a just a crisp, clear tenor voice.
- 1:21:06SPEAKER_04: Ken Block is more uh rougher edged, but still awesome.
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_04: And together.
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_04: I mean, they've been singing together for years.
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_04: I think the latest thing that they put out, I don't know if you've been paying attention, um they're promoting they found uh old cassette tapes of Drew and Ken uh doing a duo thing, like in the bars and stuff.
- 1:21:30SPEAKER_04: And I think they c they cleaned it up and they're putting that out to like fans.
- 1:21:33SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 1:21:34SPEAKER_04: So you can you can buy the do the duo.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_04: Nice so it's kind of it's kinda cool.
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_04: That's cool.
- 1:21:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:21:39SPEAKER_04: Sister Hazel is the band, and the album of the week for this week is Chasing Daylight.
- 1:21:45SPEAKER_04: They got a lot of great music.
- 1:21:46SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_04: So I would suggest you look up some Sister Hazel.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_07: Yes!
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_04: That, my friends, is did we even say the episode number?
- 1:21:54SPEAKER_05: 282.
- 1:21:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:21:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_04: I can't remember like my short-term memory is just shot.
- 1:22:00SPEAKER_04: You know?
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_04: What were we talking about?
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_04: I can't remember starting the podcast and saying what what episode number this was.
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_09: Well, you are running on like little something.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_04: This is true.
- 1:22:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:22:09SPEAKER_04: Uh so that's episode 282.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_04: Um, and we're gonna we're gonna zip it up.
- 1:22:20SPEAKER_04: We didn't talk about any movies.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_04: Oh, oh, okay, we're not gonna zip it up because I want to tell you about this movie.
- 1:22:26SPEAKER_04: Um I forgot about this.
- 1:22:30SPEAKER_04: No surprise.
- 1:22:31SPEAKER_04: I so my wife left Friday to take the kids down to Harbor House, the the basketball tournament.
- 1:22:37SPEAKER_04: And I'm I'm I'm on a Facebook fast right now.
- 1:22:40SPEAKER_04: I gave up Facebook for Lent.
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_04: Um, and what that means is I just don't scroll Facebook.
- 1:22:48SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:22:48SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_04: I still don't know Messenger and stuff like that, but I don't scroll and look at things, and it's been great.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_04: Um, but every once in a while I want to get on and say something just because the family went away and it was all by myself on Friday night, I said, I want to watch a movie that n no one will watch with me.
- 1:23:07SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 1:23:08SPEAKER_04: So I watched uh Hamnet, which is a drama, and it's uh basically so we don't know a lot about William Shakespeare's life.
- 1:23:21SPEAKER_04: Uh we know he was married, and we know that he had at least one kid, I think more than one, um, and that kid died.
- 1:23:31SPEAKER_04: And so they've taken some liberties and written this story about how the death of William Shakespeare's son was the inspiration for Hamlet.
- 1:23:44SPEAKER_04: And that's what the basis basis for Hamlet is, because his son's name was Hamlet.
- 1:23:49SPEAKER_04: And uh uh it was a slow start.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_04: The movie was a slow start, but I stuck with it.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_09: I can't imagine a movie about Shakespeare being slow.
- 1:24:01SPEAKER_04: Well, uh So I gotta tell you I'm watching this movie all by myself.
- 1:24:15SPEAKER_04: Um the first of all, the actor, Paul Mascal.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_04: Uh was fantastic.
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_04: Very real, very you know, any and I don't know if it's because of the subject matter.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_04: You know, you know a good actor when you see him, I guess.
- 1:24:33SPEAKER_04: You know, it depends on the script, it depends on you know what they bring to it.
- 1:24:38SPEAKER_04: Um but Paul Mascell was it was really well done.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_04: But pales in comparison to who played William Shakespeare's wife, and that is Jessie Buckley.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_04: She's an Irish actress.
- 1:24:57SPEAKER_04: And the performance in in this movie on her own and between these two was so real and guttural uh that I had to say something on Facebook and I said, if Jessie Buckley doesn't get the Oscar for Best Actress, and she did, didn't you?
- 1:25:17SPEAKER_04: She did.
- 1:25:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I posted it before.
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_04: I said, if she doesn't get the Oscar, it's criminal.
- 1:25:22SPEAKER_04: Um because it was the most real affecting performance that I've seen in a movie in ten years.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_04: I mean it was um and and I know that I d I want my wife to watch it with me just because I want her to see the performance.
- 1:25:41SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:25:41SPEAKER_04: I I don't know that it'll it'll uh I mean I know it'll affect her.
- 1:25:46SPEAKER_04: I don't know that she'll see it the way I see it as as a the performance.
- 1:25:50SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:25:51SPEAKER_04: Maybe she will.
- 1:25:51SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 1:25:52SPEAKER_04: She's not I don't think she's gonna watch it with me because of the subject matter.
- 1:25:55SPEAKER_04: Uh but I would say if you've got a couple hours sometime, sit down and watch Hamnet.
- 1:26:03SPEAKER_04: Because it was I was in tears.
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_04: Um because my kids it was were away and it was one of those things, uh even if you don't have kids, the performance affected me.
- 1:26:19SPEAKER_04: She was she was fantastic.
- 1:26:21SPEAKER_04: I highly recommend Hamnet.
- 1:26:23SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 1:26:23SPEAKER_04: Um and uh well-deserved Oscar wins.
- 1:26:28SPEAKER_04: I don't know how many it was I think it was up for seven Oscars.
- 1:26:31SPEAKER_04: I don't know how many it won, but I know Jesse Buckley got it.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_04: So good stuff.
- 1:26:36SPEAKER_04: Nice! Uh we're not gonna use ham Hamnet for our drops.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_09: I doubt they're out anyway.
- 1:26:41SPEAKER_04: That's probably true.
- 1:26:44SPEAKER_04: Um we'll find something, I guess.
- 1:26:47SPEAKER_04: Um so that's it.
- 1:26:48SPEAKER_04: Episode 282.
- 1:26:50SPEAKER_04: And uh we'll be back next week, right?
- 1:26:52SPEAKER_04: There's nothing holding us back next week.
- 1:26:55SPEAKER_04: We're good.
- 1:26:57SPEAKER_09: I have that thing with that guy.
- 1:27:00SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 1:27:00SPEAKER_04: We'll be taking next week off because Doug has that thing with that guy.
- 1:27:03SPEAKER_09: He wears that shirt.
- 1:27:05SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 1:27:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:27:06SPEAKER_09: He's got the face.
- 1:27:07SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:27:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that guy.
- 1:27:08SPEAKER_04: That one.
- 1:27:09SPEAKER_09: He says words with his mouth.
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:27:12SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:27:12SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:27:12SPEAKER_09: He's a good guy.
- 1:27:14SPEAKER_09: Wish I could think of his name.
