Transcript
- 0:01Welcome to Rick and That Michelle Chick, the weekly
- 0:05podcast where your hosts, Rick and Michelle, confidently dive
- 0:10into topics they know absolutely nothing about and somehow make
- 0:15it sound legit. They're not experts.
- 0:17They're not qualified. Honestly, they barely googled
- 0:20it. So grab a drink, lower your
- 0:23expectations, and let's pretend this counts as content.
- 0:28So buckle up. Facts are optional, but the
- 0:31bullshit? That's premium grade.
- 0:34This is Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:41Oh, you want me to start it for once?
- 0:42Go ahead. Yeah, Yeah.
- 0:44Go ahead all. Right well, welcome to Rick and
- 0:47that Michelle chick. Another exciting episode that
- 0:51you've been waiting, salivating to hear what is going on in our
- 0:55world as we share, you know, little tidbits of the world,
- 0:59little tidbits of our personal lives, and little tidbits of
- 1:03just who knows what today. Stuff that nobody cares about.
- 1:07No, nobody wants to listen to us.
- 1:09And also you don't have to do that because remember, we have
- 1:11the little boys guy before and. After.
- 1:13That's right, you don't have. That you don't have to do the in
- 1:16and outro. So yeah, it's all done for us
- 1:20now. We're stepping up in this
- 1:22podcast journey, which by the way, we are on episode #23 now,
- 1:26which is. Crazy.
- 1:27Wow, really? 23 episodes.
- 1:29OK, seems like time's just flying by.
- 1:31Isn't it so much fun? It's super exciting.
- 1:34So I hadn't talked to my son Logan in a long time, probably a
- 1:37couple months. And he called me out of the blue
- 1:40on Saturday and did. And I and he just, I, I picked
- 1:43up and said, Hey, what's going on?
- 1:44And he's like, he's like, Oh, it goes, I just, I was just missing
- 1:47you and I just wanted to talk to you.
- 1:48And so we talked for a, a couple hours and it was good, good to
- 1:51catch up. But one of the things that we
- 1:53caught up on was the podcast and the critique of the party.
- 1:58Yeah, yeah, the critique of the podcast.
- 2:00I'm sure that may be one of two to three people that we have
- 2:03'cause you said, 'cause you said your daughter Shaylee listens
- 2:06and then. Periodically, periodically,
- 2:09yeah, she'll just tell me, don't talk it.
- 2:11When she tells me something that's going on in her life now,
- 2:14she'll go don't talk about that on the.
- 2:16Back this, this is, this is fair game, man.
- 2:21That's how I look at it, you know?
- 2:22If you're sharing it with me. You know, and they want, if they
- 2:25want to talk about us, they can start a podcast and talk about.
- 2:27Us. Oh that would be good actually.
- 2:29You probably have a lot of info. Yeah, so, so I I did get AI did
- 2:34get an earful from Logan and one was he likes to to correct some
- 2:38of my little stories that I say because he thinks he thinks he
- 2:41says I'm a big fat liar and that I exaggerate different things
- 2:46and which. We have said like, that's our
- 2:48business, that's radio, that's show business, that's TV, That's
- 2:51what Regis Philbin used to say on live.
- 2:54Like you just take your story and you ramp it up you.
- 2:57Elevate it. You exaggerate it because
- 2:59because it may not be that interesting unless you unless
- 3:02you elevate it. And then one of the things that
- 3:04we joked about also was I need to shut up and let you do some
- 3:09talking. I said well.
- 3:11I mean, there have been a lot of people that have said that and
- 3:14I'm like, I'm like, well, I knew when we started this podcast,
- 3:17which is why it's Rick and that Michelle chick, because I knew
- 3:20no matter what, I'm like, Rick is just he is still no matter
- 3:24what happens, even if I'm like, hey, I'm I'm going to talk more
- 3:27this time. Nope, Nope.
- 3:29We'll get on some tangent or subject and you'll just keep
- 3:32running with it and I kind of have to steer us back into
- 3:35whatever. I mean, I think it's funny.
- 3:39I think it's, yeah, I think it's great.
- 3:41I mean, this is our, this is how we were on the rate.
- 3:45This is how it how it how we function how?
- 3:48It was. And relationship was.
- 3:50Right. And you have no commercial
- 3:51breaks or songs and different things like that.
- 3:53So you really are getting the unfiltered version.
- 3:56So we used to make jokes, Michelle, that we thought that
- 4:00if you, what was going on in the studio was way better than what
- 4:04was going on on the air. It I mean it really.
- 4:06Was because you're not because we can say we can do stories, we
- 4:09can the it's it's just. We can talk about sex, which on
- 4:14the radio we used to refer to anything that we talked about
- 4:17sex was doing the laundry. Oh yeah, do it to try and go
- 4:21over the kids heads basically. So yeah, now we can talk about
- 4:25all that and we could, I mean which we have on the podcast,
- 4:28we've talked about all the behind the curtains radio stuff
- 4:32that which radio in itself is kind of a lie when you think
- 4:36about it. We've talked about how all the
- 4:38calls are not real, so. And, and, and Logan did make a
- 4:41point. He goes, he goes.
- 4:43So he said you guys sometimes get too political.
- 4:47He goes. But I like because I like the
- 4:48radio stuff. When you guys do radio stuff,
- 4:50that's interesting. So and I and I try not to get I
- 4:54mean, again, because it's the same way as I do on my, my, my
- 4:57morning shows. I try not to get political
- 4:59because here's here's the truth. The truth to it, Michelle is the
- 5:03only opinion someone cares about is that my opinion is the same
- 5:06opinion as theirs. So if it's.
- 5:08We're not going to change anybody's minds.
- 5:10There's I do yes. There, there is fundamentally
- 5:13nothing I'm ever going to say on this podcast or even in real,
- 5:16just talking to people that are going to make them suddenly go,
- 5:18you know, I'm going to change political party.
- 5:21You know it's not going to happen.
- 5:22They they might be right. That yeah, that will that will
- 5:27never happen so yeah so let's see I got to go down shut your.
- 5:30What's the Logan list? Yeah.
- 5:32Yeah, shut your yap. Yeah, too many, too much.
- 5:36Politics wants to hear a little bit more about radio.
- 5:40And also he does. He did compliment Michelle on
- 5:43saying that Michelle always has really good topics to talk
- 5:45about. Oh, that's so sweet.
- 5:49Yeah. I mean, it's, it's nice that
- 5:51someone's nice to me because my daughter Shaylee is brutal and
- 5:54mean and tells me that I suck and the things we talk about
- 5:58suck and yeah. Wow.
- 6:00Yeah, she's brutal. Pretty hard.
- 6:01I don't even. Ask her anymore, because she'll
- 6:03make me cry. Literally.
- 6:05She's made me cry. Yeah, she's probably, I think
- 6:08the only kid, which she is very black and white, just like her
- 6:11older brother. You know, they'll just tell you
- 6:14what they're thinking and how it is.
- 6:16They don't really stop and think about, you know, how that's
- 6:20going to affect the other person.
- 6:22They just want to tell you and be truthful.
- 6:25But in that truth can also hurt the other person.
- 6:29This is a. Double edged sword.
- 6:31Yeah, yeah. So which is fine.
- 6:33I just again, I just don't ask her anymore.
- 6:35Yeah, I think, I think Megan has a little bit, not that she's not
- 6:39that she listens to the podcast or it gives me opinions, but
- 6:42Megan, as we've we've talked before, Megan is very black and
- 6:44white like like I try like the I, it's like even if you give
- 6:48her a present, she doesn't seem to be emotionally moved no
- 6:53matter. What you've given her, there's
- 6:55never been anything that she's. I have talked to her about it
- 6:58and and she did say the trip to Las Vegas to see Pink.
- 7:04She goes, she goes. I did cry, so I didn't see her
- 7:06cry, but she said she cried when she saw that I was going to take
- 7:11her to Vegas to see pee. Yeah.
- 7:13So there's a heart in there. There's a heart in there
- 7:16somewhere. You.
- 7:17Just now you have to take her on another trip this Christmas as
- 7:21her. Gift so so I had been thinking
- 7:23about it. I thought about I was checking
- 7:24into Disneyland and stuff. Whoo prices are just so, so
- 7:30expensive. I don't, I don't live high on
- 7:32the hog like Michelle does. So.
- 7:35You can go to Disney for reasonable cost, you just kind
- 7:40of have to know where those deals are.
- 7:42Did you check into Costco because Costco has Disney.
- 7:44Yeah, I did. We have a Costco card.
- 7:45Yep. Yep.
- 7:46That are pretty good so. And again, Disney.
- 7:49Yeah, Disneyland tickets usually don't go on sale ever, entrance
- 7:53tickets. And so it's usually some kind of
- 7:55deal like that, that that's the only way you can get some kind
- 7:58of discount so. Yeah, we did Costco for the
- 8:01Vegas trip or at least part of the Vegas trip.
- 8:03So and then it was that. But what's interesting about any
- 8:07of the situation is I thought about then this is this, but
- 8:10this is this so. So on one hand, Megan is very
- 8:14black and white. Hang on, Barclays Pawn.
- 8:18Barkley. Sparkling.
- 8:20He's. Looking for the ball.
- 8:23It's under your desk. He's looking for the ball and
- 8:25it's under the desk. He knows it.
- 8:27Is well, no, I I already played with him today.
- 8:29So when I get home, I always play with him that way.
- 8:31We have a little bit of time, but I mean, it doesn't doesn't
- 8:33work that way because he wants to be pet petted and stuff.
- 8:36Yeah. So I thought about for for for
- 8:39Christmas. I really thought about have you
- 8:41ever, I guess, has Jay ever done this, Michelle, to where it's
- 8:44like, you know, you get up on, let's just say a weekend and go,
- 8:48OK, we're flying off to Disneyland right now and not
- 8:52tell you that you're doing that or, or, or a trip where he's
- 8:55like, hey, pack your bags. Our flight leaves in like 4
- 8:59hours. We're going wherever.
- 9:01He tried that. So the birthday that we went to
- 9:04see Kiefer Sutherland and Napa, that was before COVID, I think
- 9:08that was 2019 because, you know, Kiefer Sutherland has a band, by
- 9:12the way. Nobody knows that.
- 9:13And I love him. And so, yeah, he was going to be
- 9:16in Napa. And so leading up to that trip,
- 9:21he didn't tell me where we were going or what we were doing.
- 9:23And so I was trying to guess because, again, I'm like, I have
- 9:26to know what kind of clothes I need to pack.
- 9:29Like, do I need to pack clothes for warm weather?
- 9:31Do I need to pack clothes for colder weather, rainy weather?
- 9:35Like I need to know. And finally I think I like wore
- 9:38him down. I was guessing like Disneyland
- 9:41and you know, different places that I know like we like to go
- 9:44right? Like I'm guessing those places
- 9:47and then I'm looking at the weather, like what's the weather
- 9:49like in Disneyland? And finally between like his
- 9:53sister, because his sister also knew where we were going.
- 9:56So between me like trying to wear them bolt down to tell me
- 9:59he finally had to tell me where we were going so that I knew
- 10:03what kind of clothes to pack because I was losing my mind.
- 10:06I was literally a crazy God damn.
- 10:08I was it was. I mean, looking back on it, I
- 10:11should. Have just surprised.
- 10:12Right. I should have just been like,
- 10:14OK, I'll just, you know what, I'm going to take 3 suitcases if
- 10:18this is what if you're not right where we're going, I'm in a pack
- 10:22one with like warm clothes, one with I'll pack everything.
- 10:26I'll take 3 suitcases. So looking back on it, I
- 10:29probably should have just shut up and done that.
- 10:32So, But it was very nice of him. So yeah, you could do something
- 10:35like that. Does she like stuff?
- 10:36Like, would she? Like that.
- 10:38So that's but that what you just brought up.
- 10:41So it's one of those things where it's like, yeah, I don't
- 10:44know, I don't know if like the the packing or on one-on-one
- 10:48hand they they say, Oh yeah, that would be awesome.
- 10:50On the other hand, no. What you know, So she it's just
- 10:55it's yeah, it's just a thought. Does she like that
- 10:58spontaneousness? I mean, I know she likes it as
- 11:01far as like other stuff, but not like something like that.
- 11:05Like I, I'm a planner. So I think that's the other part
- 11:09of it is I am a type A personality.
- 11:11And so that I think probably that's probably what sent me
- 11:14into this tailspin with that trip is because I had nothing,
- 11:18no control over it, nothing. And so that kind of sends me
- 11:21into this weird place, so. So when someone says so, so
- 11:26you've, you've come across these people like you've met people
- 11:28that like, I don't like surprises.
- 11:31Yes. Like there are those people do
- 11:34now I, I just want you to help me out on this.
- 11:37Do you do you really not or I mean, because I get to see
- 11:40that's where the mixed message comes when someone says that
- 11:43they don't like surprises. Do you buy that?
- 11:47I mean, some people, I think you, I think you really have to
- 11:52know them. Like, you really have to know,
- 11:54OK, this person is serious because especially, especially
- 11:59with women, you know, we I'll say it, I'll say it, I'll say
- 12:04it. We want you men to read our
- 12:07minds and we want to be like, oh, no, don't do anything.
- 12:11Don't do anything for my birthday.
- 12:12Don't throw a big surprise party when in reality, we secretly
- 12:17really do. That is the truth.
- 12:20So women, I I'm sorry. That is legit the truth for most
- 12:24of us. We want you men to figure it out
- 12:28and surprise us, and we really want that surprise, even if we
- 12:32say we don't. Right, see that and that's that
- 12:35and that's that. And that's that balancing act.
- 12:38Because I've I've learned in my in my process, the minute that
- 12:41for some reason I don't know what what it is, it's I don't
- 12:44know if it's the luck of the draw, but I will always pick the
- 12:47wrong thing. I mean, Jay would probably say
- 12:51the same thing too. I.
- 12:52Just can't hear you guys. I can't.
- 12:54I can't seem to get it right. I mean now like I for what he
- 12:59buys me for Christmas and that kind of stuff, he just goes off
- 13:02of my list. He doesn't even like veer off of
- 13:05it anymore unless he's 100% sure it's something that I really
- 13:08want. Like he's like, no.
- 13:10And that's and that and that. And that is the biggest struggle
- 13:13for Megan because for the most part, if Megan sends me a list,
- 13:17you'll get what's on the list because I think you want to get
- 13:20what you want. And so when you do, try to put a
- 13:23little cork in there or a little spin.
- 13:25It's something special or different.
- 13:27Yeah, some. And I would say, you know, for
- 13:29me, I feel like, I feel like sometimes they hit and then
- 13:33sometimes they fall flat. Like like that was not not I
- 13:37mean, so it's it's really hard. But I think that's any of us
- 13:41with a gift to giving because there have been times and it's
- 13:45not necessarily Jay, it could be like the kids or one of my
- 13:48friends. I'm, you know, I'm super excited
- 13:50that I got this gift. I think it's like the gift, like
- 13:54they're going to love it. And then again, they open it and
- 13:57it's like, you know. Right.
- 13:59You know, right, right, yes. And so you think and that and so
- 14:03so for the boys, it's gotten easy because it's just cash for
- 14:08the last for the last few years, it's just been, I mean, I don't
- 14:11even I am thinking of something special for Logan, but it has to
- 14:15do with his childhood. So I can't, you know, if he's
- 14:17listening, I don't want to stay with this, but but, but then I,
- 14:20but then I also thought about, so think about, think about
- 14:23this. If your if your kids are so used
- 14:24to always getting cash and then one and then one year you do
- 14:28something sentimental, they'll be like, where's the money?
- 14:31Yeah, they're not. They'll want the money.
- 14:33Hey, thanks for the yeah, thanks for this photo album, Dad, but
- 14:37where's my money? Probably because they already
- 14:39have the money spent like that's right, so.
- 14:42I I think, I think so. So, yeah.
- 14:44So I'm kind of at that impasse for this year.
- 14:46It's like, it's like, what do you, what do you get people that
- 14:49pretty much have everything or don't you know?
- 14:52Great. Yeah.
- 14:53It's like, it's like, and then and then I, I'm like, I'm like
- 14:55you, Michelle. I want it to be good.
- 14:57I, I mean, you do you try to make it good.
- 15:00Yeah. It's not like you're trying to
- 15:01give somebody a a crappy gift. Right, and that's my that's kind
- 15:05of why we stopped just buying the kids stuff and started going
- 15:09on trips because they want for nothing.
- 15:12And I'm, I don't want to just buy you crap that you're never
- 15:16going to use or it's not, it's not something that they're going
- 15:20to remember. It's like, oh, I'm not going to
- 15:22remember the whatever you bought me in 2018, but I am going to
- 15:26remember the trip that we went on.
- 15:28And again, it doesn't have to be something spectacular like
- 15:31Disneyland. It could be this a weekend
- 15:34somewhere or just going to the aquarium.
- 15:37You don't even have to stay overnight, whatever it is, the
- 15:39zoo, I mean something different like that.
- 15:42So. That's kind.
- 15:44Of I. Don't know about you guys and,
- 15:46and I know we're going to talk about some cats here, but yeah,
- 15:48we have three dogs. So it makes it, you know, so
- 15:51that that spontaneous, that spontaneous just, oh, pack up
- 15:54and go. Well, we got three dogs that are
- 15:57needy. Right, you don't have a good pet
- 16:00sitter yet. No.
- 16:02Well, Kyron. Kyron.
- 16:03Kyron's in the garage. Kyron's.
- 16:05But what if he goes? What if you do like a whole trip
- 16:07and he goes too then then? So, so the problem is so a few
- 16:11years back, the Megan's bestie got married in Colorado.
- 16:14So we took ten days to go or we took a big trip to go to
- 16:17Colorado, or if it took 10 days, but we were gone for a while for
- 16:20this wedding. And poor Roxy will hold her pee.
- 16:24Yeah, so little Roxy will hold her pee and poo or whatever.
- 16:28And so she and so you get so we always said, tell Kyron, hey,
- 16:31send proof of life. Send proof of life so you see a
- 16:35picture of laxative. I know.
- 16:38So you'll send he'll send a picture of poor Roxy and she
- 16:40just looks miserable. I'm like, I'm like, that dog
- 16:42hasn't peed in days because she won't, she won't do it because
- 16:46that's her like her little defiance, you know?
- 16:49And then the minute you get home, it's so funny.
- 16:51The minute you get home, Bodie and Barkley are all over you,
- 16:53right? And Roxy's sprinting towards the
- 16:55door to go potty. She wants nothing to do with
- 16:59you, she wants outside to pee. I mean not only do we have the
- 17:02cats but we also have two dogs and one is fucking crazy.
- 17:05We got them during COVID and so which.
- 17:09He's a great guard dog, but I am worried he is legit going to
- 17:13bite someone. So during, yeah.
- 17:16I mean, they're both Australian shepherds so it is their job.
- 17:19We are his sheep. Technically it is his job to
- 17:22protect us. So I feel super safe at home.
- 17:25But it's also a concern. Pet sitter who can and can't
- 17:30come in and feed them. Luckily the dog groomer, she
- 17:33also has dog training and she offered to come when Shaylee was
- 17:38away at college and Jay and I were going to go on a trip.
- 17:40I'm thinking, who, who the hell is going to be able to feed this
- 17:43dog? And she offered to come and meet
- 17:46them to make sure it would be OK.
- 17:48And she walked right in the fence.
- 17:50And I, I think I'm probably more nervous and freaked out than she
- 17:53was. She walked right in the fence
- 17:55and he, he didn't bark at her, nothing.
- 17:58He just went right up to her, smelled her and then sat at her
- 18:01feet, which means, OK, pet me. And I'm just standing there in
- 18:05awe, like what in the world? What is going on?
- 18:08And so now we have her. She'll, I mean, we pay her, but
- 18:11she'll come and take care of them and, and they they do fine
- 18:14so. We had we had the what is the
- 18:17old Co worker Cassie that used to work at the front desk.
- 18:20Yeah, yeah, she, she's pets sit for us before.
- 18:22Too. Yeah, she's a great.
- 18:23She would be a great house pet sitter, but.
- 18:25She lives in Seattle now. So right, I'm in the Tri-City so
- 18:28she's not going all the way to to babysit our our babies.
- 18:32No, no. Yeah, you've got a house full of
- 18:36animals, and I hear you're trying to catch a cat right now.
- 18:40Yeah, we, we could have more, we could have more cats.
- 18:43So we have the two dogs, we have our 6 cats and then we have the
- 18:47two fosters that we've had for like 2 years because I can't
- 18:50find them a home. If you are interested in them,
- 18:53they are up on our highlights and our Instagram.
- 18:56You can message me and I'll give you all the information on them.
- 19:00But it is also very hard to, you know, find homes or adult cats.
- 19:05But anyway, yes, so I have been on this wild cat chase.
- 19:09It's probably been a good week, week and a half.
- 19:11Now, the rescue that we foster for, usually they catch them and
- 19:15then they bring them to us. I think we've only had to trap a
- 19:19few, maybe a couple in the entire time that we have been
- 19:23fostering. But where I get my coffee the
- 19:27week before, last week, I saw there's a Gray cat twice.
- 19:32And the second time I tried to follow her.
- 19:35But where the coffee stand is is pretty high traffic area.
- 19:38And so I didn't want to follow her too much and scare her into
- 19:41the traffic. And so I happen to ask the
- 19:44coffee girls about her, like, hey, have you seen this cat?
- 19:47Do you know anything about it? And they're like, oh, yeah,
- 19:49yeah, we see her all the time. One of the girls that works in
- 19:54the morning saw a lady dump her off in the Bush and drive away.
- 20:00So we know that she has been. And abandoned.
- 20:03And when I saw her, it looks like her like nipples hurt.
- 20:07That skin is hanging down, which means that she's nursing kitten
- 20:11somewhere. And that was kind of the fear
- 20:13that I had if we caught her. And so yes, you have to find
- 20:19them. I mean, otherwise they're going
- 20:21to die. So last week the another lady
- 20:24from the rescue and I were out there with our traps.
- 20:27Now, the other lady left her trap overnight and it got stolen
- 20:31the next morning when she came to find it, it was gone.
- 20:34And I was not going to leave my trap because I didn't realize
- 20:37how many homeless people are in that area until you're sitting
- 20:40there for like hours just observing Because when you're
- 20:44just getting gas or getting coffee or going in the store,
- 20:47it's just quick. And so you're not really paying
- 20:49attention to everything going on around in that area.
- 20:52I was like, good God. So my husband was like, I don't
- 20:56want you out there late at night by yourself.
- 20:58Just do it during the during the day.
- 21:01And it happened to be that I took my trap.
- 21:04Usually I'll set it by the coffee girl's car because they
- 21:07can see the window and the coffee stand has a camera there
- 21:12and then leave it for a while and come back if we haven't
- 21:15caught anything. And so I dropped it off
- 21:17Saturday, came back home to get my husband.
- 21:19We were going to go run some errands and we went to get
- 21:21coffee. And while we were there in line,
- 21:23she went in the trap and it caught her.
- 21:26And so and yes, it's so I'm like, Oh my God, we got her.
- 21:29So we get her and of course she's freaking out trying to get
- 21:34out, which is what happens. And I notice as she kind of like
- 21:39turns, it's like, oh Yep, she is nursing.
- 21:42So she has kitties somewhere. So we had to release her and let
- 21:47me. Take you back to the kitties,
- 21:48maybe? Yeah, no, yeah, she wouldn't.
- 21:50She just sat there and was waiting for us to leave for.
- 21:53We probably sat there for like 45 minutes.
- 21:55It was just like a stare down. She was like sat over here and
- 21:58we sat here. So finally we just had to leave
- 22:02because I'm like, OK, she needs to go back to these kitties.
- 22:04I don't know how old they are. And so I was asking the girls at
- 22:08the coffee stand were questions like, hey, when was the last
- 22:11time you saw her looking pregnant?
- 22:13And they're like 03 to four weeks ago.
- 22:15So we're hoping that wants she starts to wean these kitties
- 22:20that she'll bring them out. And then myself and one of the
- 22:24other lady that got her trap stolen, we were talking to some
- 22:27of the businesses in the area and so they are going to look
- 22:30out for her. One of them has also been
- 22:32feeding her chicken. I also went and got food and
- 22:36left it with the girls at the coffee stand and they are
- 22:38feeding her when they see her. And then another one of the
- 22:43other businesses, one of the workers there said that they see
- 22:47her coming from a certain area. So now we kind of think we know
- 22:51what area she's coming from. But trying to find kitties is
- 22:55like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
- 22:57Of course, I even reached out because there's so many bushes
- 23:00around there. I even tried to reach out to
- 23:02some of my hunting friends because I'm thinking, OK, if
- 23:05somebody has like night goggles with the thermal sensor, we can
- 23:09look in all the bushes and at least eliminate those.
- 23:11You know like we can't eliminate hard surfaces with those but at
- 23:15least we could eliminate all these damn bushes.
- 23:18But no, nobody has any. So if there's anybody listening
- 23:22that has any that we could at least borrow so we could at
- 23:26least rule out all these bushes. Also when we trapped her we
- 23:30discussed she has a bad eye. I don't know if that's from an
- 23:34infection, which we have a one eyed cat and he has the best
- 23:38personality. He is also a foster fail.
- 23:40We have 4 foster fails. So the hope is, I mean, we do
- 23:46love A1 Eyed Cat, I do have to say.
- 23:49So the hope is this hopefully now that we have like a bunch,
- 23:53which the people at the other businesses are gonna keep an eye
- 23:57out for her and kitties, because as soon as she starts to wean
- 24:00those kitties, she'll bring them out.
- 24:02And the hope is that she brings them to wherever the food is.
- 24:05So hopefully the coffee stand. The problem is like, again, this
- 24:08place is high traffic. There's a lot of cars when I was
- 24:12sitting there, there's so many people, people that just zip in
- 24:14and out like super fast. And it's like, what are you
- 24:16doing? Like, I mean, sure, they don't
- 24:19know there's cats running around there, but just you could hit
- 24:22someone. I mean, I'm like, damn, people
- 24:24like drive slower. So yes, the hope is once she
- 24:30starts weaning them, she brings them out and we can figure out
- 24:34how many there are and then trap all of them.
- 24:37My worry is the weather is getting colder, who was kind of
- 24:41like a race against time at this point.
- 24:43I did tell the coffee girls because if something does happen
- 24:46to the kitties, unfortunately that is very possible that they
- 24:51should notice that, you know, once her milk dries up that it
- 24:54won't look, you know, her skin won't be sagging so much.
- 24:58And if that does happen, then we can catch her again.
- 25:01So hopefully she isn't smart because some of them get smart
- 25:05about the traps and they won't even go in the traps, you know,
- 25:08once you catch them, once they are smart about the traps.
- 25:12So hopefully, fingers crossed we can find them and catch them.
- 25:16We're going to go searching some more for them in the next couple
- 25:20days so hopefully we can find them.
- 25:23That is my cat adventure. No, I think, I think.
- 25:26Do you work with the the Yakima? What's the What's the rescue you
- 25:29work with? It's underground community cat
- 25:31rescue. No, it's just a bunch of ladies
- 25:33that started this on their own. They weren't even A5O13C in the
- 25:39they just within the last probably four or five years got
- 25:42their 5O13C, you know, nonprofit status.
- 25:46It was just a bunch of basically crazy cat ladies legit that were
- 25:50just going around like catching cats and trying to find them
- 25:55homes. They do get transported.
- 25:57Where we live again is a rural farm area.
- 26:01They do get transported to Seattle and Tacoma where there
- 26:04is usually waiting list for cats because most people live in
- 26:08apartments and they want a smaller pet.
- 26:10And so, so, yeah, they go on transport once they get
- 26:13accepted, which they deal with the Humane Society over there,
- 26:17Seattle Humane Society, there's safe that has cats.
- 26:22And so a lot of them go to those places and get adopted and their
- 26:25adoption fee over there is like 350 bucks.
- 26:28Like it's a, it's a lot in their paperwork.
- 26:31I'm just like, damn, I looked at it.
- 26:33I was like, holy smokes. Like like you basically have to
- 26:36give your fingerprints like everything about you.
- 26:41We we do that a lot with put overpopulation prevention.
- 26:44That's what I do a lot of here in the Tri-cities.
- 26:47As you already know, I sit on the board and I'm the president
- 26:49right now and we have a, we have a cat program.
- 26:52We have a dog program. And you're the story you talk
- 26:54about Heather, Heather and Carol in our program.
- 26:57Heather is, is that like you guys would get along great
- 27:00because you're the crazy cat ladies and she's got a separate
- 27:03room in her house where she, you know, and all these different
- 27:05things and she's got traps. Yeah, which because we have the
- 27:09two adult fosters that we've had for two years, that is usually
- 27:12our quarantine room. So if I catch this cat, I'm
- 27:15going to have to put her in the guest room.
- 27:17Like that is the only viable room and she probably has some
- 27:21kind of infection. So I can't just let her out with
- 27:23our, you know, or be in the same space as our cats.
- 27:26So you really have to be unaware of that kind of stuff that you
- 27:30can't just take in this cat or animal, dog, cat, whatever it
- 27:34might be if you find them and you can't just like throw them
- 27:37in with your cats or dogs, whatever the case may be.
- 27:39So you kind of just have to be aware of that stuff, which cats,
- 27:43dogs have parvo and cats have, it's called Pan Luke, which it's
- 27:47just as contagious as parvo and kills them rather quickly.
- 27:52So you have to be careful of all that kind of stuff.
- 27:55We deal with a lot with that with pit overpopulation
- 27:57prevention. But again, Michelle, thank you
- 27:59for, you know, for, for doing that because that's and again,
- 28:03that's why that's why the mission is so huge.
- 28:05Spay and neuter, spay and neuter, spay and neuter.
- 28:07But, and don't worry, because I know I have a big mouth.
- 28:10I'm not going to get on a soapbox to talk about how shitty
- 28:13some people are with their animals because.
- 28:14That's yeah, that drops that. Yeah, when I spend all day.
- 28:17She was dropped off in a Bush. I was like people which the
- 28:22rescues are so overwhelmed again, you know that from
- 28:26sitting on the board once, right?
- 28:29You know, everybody adopted all these animals during Covic, and
- 28:32then once everything opened up, it just went crazy with people
- 28:37wanting to get rid of their pets, abandoning their pets.
- 28:41Some of the messages and emails that the rescue women that I
- 28:48work with get is crazy. Like the things that some of
- 28:52these people threaten, like if you don't take my animal, I'm
- 28:55going to do XYZ to it. I like what?
- 28:59Yeah, we had that. We had that.
- 29:01Yeah, we had that happen with the Boston Terrier a few years
- 29:04back. I got a call from somebody on
- 29:06our board and they said, hey, we have a little Boston terrier.
- 29:09And the father, so the young boy, he was 23 years old.
- 29:12It's an unaltered, unaltered Boston terrier, of course.
- 29:16And, and the kid had to move back in with his dad.
- 29:19And the dad says if that dog's not out of here by this weekend,
- 29:22I'm shooting it, you know. Oh.
- 29:23Yeah. So we deal with these kind of
- 29:25these kind of crazy stories all the time and people that the
- 29:28crew. I mean, I just, it's one of the
- 29:31things I, I mean, again, not no soapbox, but cruelty to animals,
- 29:35I think should have massive consequences.
- 29:38I've always felt that I've always felt like even from a
- 29:40even from a canine situation dealing with a criminal, you,
- 29:44you kill a canine, you kill a canine officer.
- 29:47That's to me like you killed a real officer.
- 29:49You know, that's not a you know, your, your ass is going up
- 29:52prison for life if you know so. But yeah, I mean, the, the, the,
- 29:57the amount of animal cruelty in the world and it's yeah, I, I
- 30:02look back, I think I have a one time.
- 30:05Remember I had Boomer who was our our Beagle.
- 30:08We had Boomer. And when I was when I was when I
- 30:12went to that divorce with Pokey and had to move to Bakersfield,
- 30:14CA, I gave Boomer to a listener, which took good care of him.
- 30:18But to this day, I've had the absolute and it's been 20 years
- 30:23ago, but the absolute guilt of not.
- 30:26I feel like that. That's one animal that I did
- 30:29not, you know, he should have gone with me to Bakersfield.
- 30:32I should have figured it out and I didn't.
- 30:35And so I always have that that guilt of and and that's one of
- 30:40the things that is so funny. I work with the dog program now
- 30:42with Pop and Amanda, who is the dog coordinator.
- 30:45I don't even read the stories when they get the up their
- 30:47animals because I always make the joke that my yellow trucks
- 30:50going through their front window.
- 30:51So so I don't read the stories anymore, but she said she goes,
- 30:57Rick, you have to have some empathy that that they're
- 31:01willing to come to the to come to pop and.
- 31:04For the people. Well, just you, you have to have
- 31:08some some empathy rather than them just letting their dog go
- 31:11on the street, you know what I'm saying?
- 31:12Or abandoned like this poor Kitty.
- 31:14At least they're coming to a rescue and saying I want to give
- 31:18this animal up and finally a good home.
- 31:20So yeah, but it, but it's hard when you when you read the, you
- 31:23know, when you read the stories and it's like, yeah, it's just,
- 31:29it's hard to read it when when it's like, you know, oh, I got a
- 31:32new boyfriend, so I can't have a dog now.
- 31:34I mean or. Right.
- 31:35Or I'm moving or I'm busy and it's like, you know what, the
- 31:38pet will adjust to you being busy.
- 31:40They'd rather have that than you give them to someone else.
- 31:45A whole new family abandoned them.
- 31:46I mean, they don't know what's going on.
- 31:49Yeah, so, so I, I, I salute you. I thank you, love that you do
- 31:54that. You are a wonderful person.
- 31:55And and again, it's a great cause.
- 31:58And and remember spaying to your animals.
- 32:00Yes, hopefully I can catch her, which I mean, yeah.
- 32:03You have a set update. Yeah, I will again, like we live
- 32:07in a rural area and looking back when I was a child, the the way
- 32:11to deal with like my dog got hit by a car.
- 32:13Rolo. He was like a black and tan
- 32:16German shepherd. He got hit by a car.
- 32:18What do you do you think we took him to the vet?
- 32:20No, my dad took him out back and shot him.
- 32:22Like that was that was what happened back then.
- 32:25And it's like, but that isn't the same now.
- 32:28You know, things have changed. We have progressed on how we
- 32:31treat our animals and people around here again, rural
- 32:36agriculture have barn cats. And so a lot of the thinking
- 32:40with their barn cats is, oh, I don't need to feed them because
- 32:43that makes them better mousers. And it's like that is not,
- 32:47that's not even true. Like you still need to feed them
- 32:50and care for them and they will be amazing mousers.
- 32:54So it's just dealing with all that kind of stuff too where we
- 32:56live, so. Yeah, we had to when Logan was a
- 32:59little so Pokey. Pokey really liked cats.
- 33:02So we had cats when I was married to Pokey.
- 33:04So we had a couple. Katie.
- 33:07Katie and Weiner Man. Yeah, they they were.
- 33:10They were inside and they were outside and inside cats.
- 33:13And you'd go out to the front porch and see a dead man.
- 33:15Here you go. Here's the.
- 33:18Snakes, baby rabbits, I mean, you name it.
- 33:22But you know, and they for the most part, 99% of the time or
- 33:2590% of the time they were in the house.
- 33:27Yeah. But but yeah, so yeah, it's one
- 33:31of and and then when Logan we, we, we, we moved to Seattle.
- 33:34Oh, when we're talking, So here we're talking, you know, I'm
- 33:37going to share a little story about guilt is so when we lived
- 33:41in Clarkston, we had Sammy, we had Weiner and we had Katie.
- 33:46So we had three. So we had three cats.
- 33:48Weiner was Katie's daughter. And then Sam was another cat
- 33:51when he was a tabby, a white tabby and passed away.
- 33:54So we lost, we lost Sammy. So we were down to Weiner and
- 33:57Katie and this little house we lived in.
- 34:00We had this cat called stupid that would come around and it
- 34:03was a stray and and it was a black and it was a really nice
- 34:07cat or whatever, right? Well, we were young.
- 34:10We were what I was 23, Pokey was 19 and we were young.
- 34:14And I remember that we moved to Seattle for me to work in
- 34:18Seattle, and we took Weiner and Katie with us because those were
- 34:21those were our cats. And we left stupid behind.
- 34:25And to this day, it's the biggest regret because it's
- 34:30like, even though it was a stray cat, it still come around, you
- 34:32know, You know. And so I you know.
- 34:36I look back, I, I look back at my life and I have lots of, lots
- 34:40of guilt of, of things I wish I would have done better.
- 34:44So again, that's just. Age, learning, progressing, all
- 34:49of it. You know, I know.
- 34:51At least you have. Learned.
- 34:53Progressed and trying to be better with your animals so
- 34:57well, but I can do I'm one of I'm.
- 34:59One of those weird people that I'll just be driving down the
- 35:01road and I don't know why. I'll just think of Boomer the
- 35:04dog and I'll just start crying. I mean, haven't you ever done
- 35:07that where you're just like, you think of a Yeah, you know, yeah,
- 35:09I had a cat that. Yeah.
- 35:10Yeah, you know, and you, you know, and.
- 35:13You're like, well, that, that that dog or cat's been gone for
- 35:1520 years, but just that it just hits you.
- 35:17Yeah, you know, and then you're. Normal again.
- 35:20For me, it's like there's a there's a great website Does the
- 35:23dog die in themovie.com? Oh yeah, I don't I.
- 35:28Don't watch movies where? Dogs where animals do.
- 35:30I don't, I, I haven't watched, I haven't watched Guardians of the
- 35:33Galaxy #3 because they experiment on the pets.
- 35:35Like Nope. Oh, I haven't seen that.
- 35:37I mean, I won't. Do it.
- 35:38I won't. I won't do it if.
- 35:39The if the dog is going to get killed, I I won't do it now.
- 35:43Humans all day long freaking mow, mow them, mow the humans
- 35:48down. Which what was that movie that
- 35:50Channing? Tatum did.
- 35:51He just did with the dog that he was like he was doing the press
- 35:55junket and he was like and the dog doesn't die.
- 35:58Isn't it Max or something like? That, yeah, I don't remember.
- 36:01I've watched. Marley And that was a huge
- 36:04mistake. I should.
- 36:05Luckily I was at home by myself. But yeah, I was bawling like
- 36:09Marley. Yeah, no lean.
- 36:11No, Marley made me. Yeah, Marley made me.
- 36:14Oh God, like like a cried like a little bitch, you know, Marley
- 36:17did. And then and then there's, you
- 36:20know, like, like turn hooch where that made me cry.
- 36:25That made me cry. But then it has the great
- 36:26ending, right? Yeah, right.
- 36:28But. Still I I could see it.
- 36:29Today and still ball. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 36:32No matter what. I'm going to.
- 36:34I'm already turned up too and the animal dies and I'll start.
- 36:37Crying and my kids are looking at me like what the fuck is
- 36:40wrong with her? Like even even animated.
- 36:43I'll be watching like Balto or something like, you know, oh,
- 36:46they're treating the dog. They're treating the animated
- 36:48dog wrong. I'm going to cry like Oliver.
- 36:50Oh, the. Call of the Wild.
- 36:52So person 4 just redid that. I mean, it's been a few years,
- 36:56but that was my dad's favorite book.
- 36:58And then I found it in the Naches middle School library and
- 37:02it still had the little library card with like his name on it.
- 37:07And then I checked it out. I.
- 37:08Know this is crazy. I checked it out and then I read
- 37:11it. And so that was like one of my
- 37:13favorite books. And yeah, I watched that movie.
- 37:15Thank God I watched it at home by myself because again, I was
- 37:18like bawling my eyes out. But there was a lot of reason
- 37:22more than just that. The sentiment.
- 37:24Well, no, it's attached to a connection.
- 37:25But. I remember being in being in
- 37:27school and it was like, oh, it's movie day and they'd roll in,
- 37:30you know, the yearling. It was the yearling or it was
- 37:33what's the Oh my gosh, the one where they where the.
- 37:37Red or where? The Red Fern.
- 37:38Grows any of those any of those were the anywhere.
- 37:42Yeah, it's like, Yep, don't take, don't take, you know, like
- 37:45what, who the hell? Who the hell assigns this crap
- 37:47in in elementary school and I don't know, you know, as a.
- 37:50Horse Girl because I had a horse.
- 37:52Yeah, I of course read like all the Black Beauty series books,
- 37:55which again, like. They're very.
- 37:57Abusive to these horses and the things in them are horrible.
- 38:01Which Shaylee? Growing up she read Warrior
- 38:03Cats? Are you familiar with that whole
- 38:05series of box? Oh gosh.
- 38:07It's. It's crazy, but now that she's
- 38:09older, which they really helped her with her reading literacy,
- 38:13she was super low and then she start, she got hooked on these
- 38:16books and just started reading like crazy and it really helped
- 38:20her reading literacy. But it's cats are in colonies
- 38:23basically is what they're called.
- 38:25And it's just basically these cats that now she talks about
- 38:30how like, looking back, it deals with a whole bunch of like how
- 38:33these cats are like killed and murdered and stuff.
- 38:37That she's like, mom, I cannot believe that.
- 38:40Like I was reading this in 4th grade or whatever it is.
- 38:44But it's like, hey, it helped you with your reading standards.
- 38:47So it's it's fine. So so yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:53I can't. Yeah.
- 38:54Any of that. Now it's like, I, yeah, I skip.
- 38:57I'm like, Nope, gonna skip that movie.
- 38:58Not, you know, yeah, I even watch.
- 39:00It's so funny. I'm a, I'm a John Wick fan, you
- 39:02know, which is Keanu Reeves in action.
- 39:04And, and in the second movie, I think there's a there's a woman
- 39:08in there. She's an assassin and she has
- 39:10two German shepherds. And so they they raid this place
- 39:14and I'm like, Oh, you better not kill the you better not kill
- 39:17those dogs. And and you hear one of them.
- 39:20Yep, you know what I'm saying? As it gets shot and I'm like son
- 39:24of A and it had a bulletproof vest on.
- 39:26So it was fun, but but remember the very first John Wick movie?
- 39:30They killed the dog. I mean, or no, I haven't seen
- 39:33him. I don't.
- 39:34Know I haven't seen any of those and John Wick.
- 39:36Yeah, so to me it's like, and I would you made you jog my memory
- 39:40on is it water for the elephants or where they.
- 39:44Yeah, Robert. Pattinson Yeah, yeah.
- 39:47Water. Yeah, when.
- 39:48And so when that elephant stomps that mofo's head, I'm like, go
- 39:51for it. Like I have.
- 39:52No, I don't know why I have. When I when I read articles
- 39:55about lions killing poachers, it's like people.
- 40:00I'm good with it. I don't.
- 40:02Lose any sleep. I don't I I'm not I'm not on the
- 40:04flip side to go oh, that was somebody's that was somebody's
- 40:06husband or dad. So what mofo mofo was trying to
- 40:09kill a lion got what you deserve, dude, I just I just
- 40:12never understand killing of lions and rhinos and zebras and
- 40:16giraffes. I just trophy hunting, yeah.
- 40:19And and then they and then. I and then people try to sit me
- 40:22down and be reasonable. Oh well, the tribe needs some
- 40:25money. They'll give the mute to the
- 40:27tribe. You know well, why don't?
- 40:30We feed the people, Why don't we?
- 40:32Why don't we do the right thing and feed the people instead of
- 40:34killing endangered animals? Human humankind.
- 40:37If they could, if they could literally wipe the planet of
- 40:39every animal, they, they Evan would do it.
- 40:42Oh, I mean, at some point we are.
- 40:43Going to Yeah, that's what's going to happen.
- 40:47We're over, we're overfishing the ocean, and it is going to
- 40:50happen at some point. Yeah, You know, it's a matter
- 40:52when. Yeah, there.
- 40:53There are many times in my. Day.
- 40:55I wish a meteor would just land right on the planet and just
- 40:57wipe us out. Many times.
- 40:58Dinosaurs, yes. Bye bye.
- 41:01Bye, bye. Maybe if you were a little
- 41:03kinder to the planet, maybe if you weren't so driven for
- 41:05profit. And and oh, I got to, I got to
- 41:08have, I got to have that bull elk on my wall.
- 41:10You know, I'm saying I'm like what I.
- 41:12Mean a lot of people deer in elk they do use that meat to feed
- 41:16their families so yes and remember I I talk I.
- 41:19Talk about this in the book too, and in my book that I wrote is
- 41:22again, if you if you get your deer ticket, you get your elk
- 41:26ticket, you get your, your, your, your trout.
- 41:28You know, I grew up on a ranch. I grew up on a farm.
- 41:31I mean, it is not. These things are not unknown to
- 41:33me and and. And that was a.
- 41:36And, and that was a fact of life.
- 41:40Yeah, that's a fact of life. My my foster.
- 41:42Dad haunted. I was around guns my whole time
- 41:44as a as a little kid. I personally after killing that
- 41:47one bird, I just decided I would never do it again.
- 41:49So but but up until then I had gone on mini hunting expeditions
- 41:54and different things like that with my with my foster family.
- 41:57But I have a great story. I'll, I'll save it for next
- 42:00podcast about why I do not hunt. I mean, my dad was.
- 42:04So I have a good story to tell, but I'll save that for next
- 42:07week. Yeah.
- 42:08I mean, I don't know if it's good, but it's the reason why I
- 42:11was not a hunter. My dad tried many times to Get
- 42:14Me Out to go hunting with him, which girls hunt all the time,
- 42:17You know, it's not just a male thing.
- 42:18So yeah. Oh, absolutely.
- 42:20And again. And.
- 42:21I I want to clarify, I'm not I'm big trophy hunting.
- 42:25I probably have an issue with, you know what I'm saying.
- 42:26That was probably the one I have an issue with.
- 42:29But we're something as plentiful, let's say plentiful
- 42:31like a like deer, you know, and elk.
- 42:34It's about but but also. The poacher eating your.
- 42:37Family there. Was an article about this.
- 42:39Guy that was a poacher and he was personally responsible for
- 42:43the killing of 48 elk illegally. Illegally and he gets a $7000
- 42:49fine. So he probably sold the meat for
- 42:54more. Than that or what exactly where?
- 42:57Where? Is where is the penalty for the
- 42:59crim? The, you know, the criminal,
- 43:00where's the penalty? I mean until it's.
- 43:03Going to be not worth it for them to go out and do this super
- 43:08tough. They're just going to keep doing
- 43:09it. They don't care.
- 43:10Of course they're going to keep doing that.
- 43:12You know, couple grand. Is just a slap on the wrist to a
- 43:15lot of people. Well, if you get vote.
- 43:18For this podcast, we yeah, we're animal lovers.
- 43:20On his podcast, Yeah, We Are. Yeah, we're we're big.
- 43:25Sobbing babies when it comes to animals, yes.
- 43:28Yeah. Yeah, we don't.
- 43:29We don't. Yeah, Yeah.
- 43:30We're not going to be watching any of those Marley type movies.
- 43:33I did want to ask you how many trick or treaters did you get
- 43:36this year? So we have.
- 43:41We have a running, yeah, we have a running joke at our house is
- 43:45Megan does not like me to buy candy because she the bag will
- 43:49be left be left in the house and so she doesn't want the candy in
- 43:52the house. So you don't get any choice.
- 43:56So, so she's in the camp of turn the light off and act like
- 43:59you're not home. So I, I am in the I am in the
- 44:02camp, I'm in the camp of you got to have at least a little bag of
- 44:04something, right? But every year she kind of talks
- 44:07me out of it until this year when our neighbor heard me
- 44:10talking about it on the radio. They live across the street and
- 44:12they got like a couple toddlers. And so they were kind of given
- 44:17they were joking with Megan about the candy.
- 44:19And so I did run out, run out to the store and buy just a little
- 44:22bag of candy. And so they came by and gave
- 44:25them a little bit. Well, dumb me left the light on
- 44:29and sure enough, we had a couple more trick or treaters and the
- 44:31and at 9:00 at night, it was at it was about 9:30.
- 44:35We get a ringing at the doorbell and it's trick or treaters and I
- 44:38already ran. I had run out of candy, so I was
- 44:40like, oh, I'm sorry. Even though I only had a little
- 44:42bag going. Oh, I'm so sorry guys.
- 44:43And I said that's fine. So we normally we don't get a
- 44:47lot of trick or treaters. How do you do out there in the
- 44:49the boondocks? We don't do well, but I.
- 44:51Was talking to a lot of people that do normally have a lot of
- 44:56trick or treaters and they said this year they had about half of
- 45:00the trick or treaters as they did last year.
- 45:02And I think it's kind of a combination of a couple things.
- 45:05I was thinking about it and Shaylee and I were discussing it
- 45:07too. I was thinking about it when I
- 45:10went to Walmart like the week before Halloween and the week of
- 45:13Halloween, there was still a bunch of Halloween stuff, like a
- 45:17bunch. And normally around that time
- 45:21it's slim Pickens at Walmart for like costumes and candy and
- 45:25there was a lot left. So I think part of it was
- 45:28finances. People did not have the money or
- 45:31that money to spend on costumes. I think that's a piece of it,
- 45:35but I also think the other piece is trunk or treats are ruining
- 45:40door to door trick or treating completely ruining it.
- 45:43Yep, there's so many. And I.
- 45:45I think that that is probably the number one.
- 45:48Yes, we had that's a big treat. We had this in the tri-cities
- 45:51too, because I'm, I'm part of a bunch of those Facebook groups
- 45:53they're talking about, Oh, how many trick or treaters did you
- 45:55get or whatever? And, and, and there's still
- 45:58certain areas that still get a crap load of kids.
- 46:01But wait, which you? Were saying it was down.
- 46:04Right which I get the. Trunk or treats are safe and you
- 46:07know where the candy's coming from, but you also have those
- 46:09areas in those neighborhoods that you know are very safe and
- 46:13a lot of people still go door to door trick or treating.
- 46:15So you can't use that as an excuse.
- 46:17I think the other pieces, trunk or treats are just easier for
- 46:20parents to just take their kids around to trunks and they don't
- 46:23have to be schlepping in the cold and their costumes going
- 46:28door to door. So I think that's a big piece of
- 46:30it. Plus there's trunk or treats
- 46:32like all week long leading up to Halloween now, which is crazy to
- 46:35me. Crazy And and and they're all
- 46:37free. Usually, Yeah, yeah.
- 46:40They're all, they're all I mean. Going door to door is free.
- 46:43But well, but I mean. It's maybe you can, if you can
- 46:47get a huge pillow, pillowcase of candy in one stop.
- 46:50Why would you not basically. So yeah.
- 46:53Yeah, I think we have a, we have a ton.
- 46:55Well, we have trunk or treat. We have, we have a ton of
- 46:57activities. I mean, we well here we've got
- 47:00I, I, I know. Do you guys still have Mad
- 47:01Hatter's haunts where you're at? Still on different things, like
- 47:04yeah, yeah. So so even.
- 47:06Here in the tri-cities that haunted houses have blown up
- 47:08too. Like there's a lot of things
- 47:11that different. Things that they can.
- 47:12Do so yeah, for for I think trick or treating is is down at
- 47:17least because a lot of people are just like you said, trunk or
- 47:20treat Yeah, ruining it. Well, you.
- 47:24Well, you. Now you're in.
- 47:25The boot, you're in the boondocks.
- 47:26So yeah, we don't. I mean when?
- 47:28We used to decorate a lot. We are on the main road.
- 47:33We would decorate a whole bunch and at one point we had done
- 47:36like a little haunted house when the boys, Matthew and Benjamin
- 47:40were probably 5 and 6. And so we got a lot of people
- 47:43then and we would give candy at the end of the haunted house.
- 47:46But since we don't decorate as much any which I don't, we don't
- 47:49decorate anymore at all. We don't get anyone other than
- 47:53and you know, like my brother brings his twins so I could see
- 47:56them in their costume. Yeah, we get some of the family
- 47:58members, but that's it. And of course, my grandbaby came
- 48:02to trick or treat, so. Right.
- 48:03So you get to get to see her. You get a little you.
- 48:05Get a little bag of candy. And that's what, yeah, yeah, I
- 48:08got her a little toys. And she's only three months old,
- 48:11so yeah, yeah, Megan. Megan's a big fan of Turn The.
- 48:13Lights off, act like you don't exist.
- 48:17Oh gosh, well, and the. Funny thing is no, no, The funny
- 48:19thing about. Her is.
- 48:20She's, you know, my wife, she's, you know, she's always on the
- 48:23go. So it's not not like she's
- 48:25hanging around on Halloween. She goes out with her friend
- 48:28Angie. She's doing other things.
- 48:29So I'm like, how I, we was getting this conversation like,
- 48:31what is it? If you're not here, why I should
- 48:35be able to hang out candy And I'm like, and I'm like, and so
- 48:37the way our, our house is situated, if I turn off the
- 48:39light, you can still see the TV. So so.
- 48:44Yeah. That's.
- 48:47Hilarious because you know, somebody's here and the dog.
- 48:49Well, the dogs are very, the dogs are reactive as well.
- 48:53But yeah, yeah. But still.
- 48:55But still. Yes.
- 48:55I am, I am. I have very much want to give
- 48:58out candy on Halloween or trick or treaters and she's in the
- 49:01camp that doesn't. Yep.
- 49:03Well, now. That I sounded like an old
- 49:05person with my people don't like slip their kids in the cold from
- 49:10house to house. I sound like the old person that
- 49:12that is like I had to walk uphill in the snow when I was
- 49:17younger. Like when did you I?
- 49:21Sound like that person. Now like I, I think.
- 49:24That I stopped trick or treating.
- 49:28So my buddy Dean, my buddy the Blake's, they, they, they had
- 49:32their own little haunt, like you said, they had a big house.
- 49:34They they had a lot of money and so they would have a Halloween
- 49:38party. So Dean would Dean would invite
- 49:41his friends. And so I got to to go to that
- 49:43several years when I so when I was with the Wallaces, when I
- 49:47was with the Wallaces, I was able to go to that party.
- 49:50And so I didn't trick or treat. Gosh, 7th grade on up probably.
- 49:55Yeah, I think once I was like. 13, which would be something
- 49:59like something like 7th, 8th. Grade Yeah.
- 50:01Then which we went to see which This is why I do not like the
- 50:08Halloween movie franchise. Michael Myers, my girlfriends
- 50:12and I, her parents took us to the movies.
- 50:15And I had sprayed, you know, the spray and hair color.
- 50:19Yeah. We had like, sprayed our hair.
- 50:21Well, I'm, I'm blonde like, or at least like dishwater blonde,
- 50:24naturally. And so we sprayed my hair black.
- 50:28Well, this is the first time I had ever done anything like that
- 50:31to my hair. And it soaks in the color.
- 50:34And so my hair, I wash my hair the next day and it is like a
- 50:38green, dark green color. I kid you not.
- 50:43It's like dark green. And I'm like, oh, my God, I
- 50:46cannot go to school like this. My mom made me go to school with
- 50:50my hair like that. Yes, yeah.
- 50:52Made me go to school. Of course, everyone is like
- 50:54teasing me about it. And it took me, it took probably
- 50:57at least that entire week of continuously washing my hair all
- 51:02the time to finally get it out. But besides that, again, we were
- 51:06probably like 1213, going to see this R rated movie, which the
- 51:11person at the time, I don't think now, they probably don't
- 51:14care how old you are going to R rated movies.
- 51:16But at the time, there's somebody there when you buy the
- 51:19ticket, right? And so she was like, are you
- 51:24guys old enough? And we all kind of look at each
- 51:26other like, oh, shit. And there's like a couple behind
- 51:29us. And the lady behind us is like,
- 51:31yeah, they're old enough. She like vouches.
- 51:34For. Us so the girls kind of like
- 51:38okay, but she's still like sold us the tickets.
- 51:40This is probably the first horror movie I have ever seen
- 51:44and to this a day I I cannot stand Michael Myers even just if
- 51:48I see the mask. I had nightmares for like months
- 51:53after that and I to this day despise like I don't I'm not
- 51:57like a horror movie type person. I don't really like.
- 52:00Them and. I don't know if that's where it
- 52:02started from or I I don't know. Same here.
- 52:04I'm not. Yeah.
- 52:05Michael yeah, For me as a kid, Michael Myers scared to live in
- 52:08crap when I hear the music like. Yeah, just.
- 52:11Just the thought that he's standing there in the in the
- 52:13window of your kitchen, like I'm getting goosebumps now.
- 52:17Just. Like, yeah, so for me for.
- 52:19Me, Amityville Horror, where the the doll has red eyes or any of
- 52:23that. Sorry.
- 52:24Yeah, we had. Yeah.
- 52:25None of that. None of that stuff.
- 52:26Not a fan. I did enjoy the Scream franchise
- 52:31only by the fact that that was really corny to me.
- 52:34But you're kind. Of making.
- 52:36I always look. I always look.
- 52:37Like I. Yes, I see Scream as as a parody
- 52:42of slasher movies, you know, with the ghostfaced or what the
- 52:46Ghostface guy. So so I can handle, I can handle
- 52:49a scream. Scream is OK, I guess, but I've
- 52:52never, I've never been a not a big horror fan.
- 52:54You know, I think I watched the very first.
- 52:57Saw movie which there what on like 20 now I don't even know
- 53:00how many there but I did not cut.
- 53:03Your leg. Off what the?
- 53:04Yes, I did not like that. Like psychological aspect of the
- 53:08Saw movies. Like no, I'm like, no, I'm out.
- 53:12No, I don't like any of it. No, you're we're in.
- 53:13The same boat vote on that, just not, you know, not we're both
- 53:17scaredy cat chickens. What we?
- 53:18Are. Yeah, just not.
- 53:20Just not. My thing, I put that up, put
- 53:22that with the roller coasters. That's just Nah, dude, I don't,
- 53:26I don't, I mean, I, it's funny is, you know, because I, I, when
- 53:31it comes to movies, I do think I'm a, I'm a typical dude
- 53:34because like action movies, right, you know?
- 53:38I, I, you know or. Westerns, I mean, I think yeah,
- 53:41those are movies I like, you know, I like, I like John Wick,
- 53:44I like Stallone, I like, you know, those those, you know,
- 53:48Bruce Willis, Die Hard, all the I mean, I like all those kind.
- 53:52And then and then I like comedies and then I like and
- 53:54then, and then bringing up the rear is, you know, a drama, you
- 53:59know, something like, you know, I like stuff that I like stuff
- 54:02that has to deal with lawyers, doctors.
- 54:05I mean, they, they call it procedural, you know what I'm
- 54:08saying? So I and I enjoy and I enjoy
- 54:11things where detectives figure out things.
- 54:14So I kind of like. Those.
- 54:15I like those. Kind of movies, but yeah, I got,
- 54:19you know, Silence of the Lambs is an amazing movie if you're
- 54:21talking and I don't, but I've never thought of that as a
- 54:23horror movie, even though you could probably couldn't classify
- 54:25it like that. I thought it was more much more
- 54:27of a suspenseful, suspenseful thriller.
- 54:30So I so I like. I like a few of those.
- 54:32Where you know? But just hacking up people, I
- 54:36just. Never, you know, Chainsaw
- 54:37Massacre. OK.
- 54:40Yeah. No, no.
- 54:41Thanks. Yeah, my husband must not be
- 54:43normal. I mean, he likes the ones that
- 54:45he can't figure out. So which I just which I just.
- 54:49Made him watch. Have you watched the Demi Moore,
- 54:51The substance? No.
- 54:53Was it good? Well.
- 54:54I mean, I thought it was good. He did not like which it does
- 54:58have some like blood and which it's just kind of like Walking
- 55:01Dead type is what it reminded me of.
- 55:04But it's very I I understand where he didn't get it because
- 55:07it's from like Demi Moore's character is aging in Hollywood.
- 55:12And as you age, you're getting replaced by a younger person and
- 55:17so. That.
- 55:18Aspect of it, I think women, especially older women, can
- 55:21really understand and really tap into that aspect of the movie
- 55:26where like, dudes don't really understand that because once you
- 55:29guys get to a certain age, it doesn't really matter.
- 55:31You just look great with your salt and pepper hair.
- 55:34Where us with like our Gray or white hair is like, no, no,
- 55:37we're starting to get some wrinkles or bags and whatever it
- 55:40is, there's a stigma of that compared to yeah.
- 55:43There's a stigma, yeah. So he, I don't think he really.
- 55:47I explained it to him like I liked it, I mean, because of
- 55:50that aspect of it and how how like Dennis Quaid is in it and
- 55:55he plays like that slimy manager type person.
- 55:59So it he did great. He was fabulous in that part.
- 56:04So yeah, I liked all facets of it, but that's probably because
- 56:07being on the radio, we kind of had a glimpse into that world
- 56:10too, like the music world and all that type of stuff.
- 56:14So it's probably a bunch of reasons why I like it.
- 56:17But yeah, he, I don't think really understood the whole the
- 56:21whole plot of it, I think, or the message.
- 56:24So yeah, I think I made him waste like an hour and a half of
- 56:27his life. I think what's.
- 56:30Interesting is when we when we talk about horror movies, I can
- 56:34I like you you brought up The Walking Dead.
- 56:36I can watch The Walking Dead. You know, for some reason, for
- 56:39some reason The Walking Dead is not believable to me.
- 56:43So I, I'm I can suspend belief about The Walking Dead, but
- 56:46Michael Myers standing in the kitchen that could happen in
- 56:48real life. So those.
- 56:50Yes. So so I can watch I can watch
- 56:53fantasy or sci-fi, you know, and and those kind of movies and
- 56:58suspend belief. But for me, Halloween were where
- 57:01they legitimately could be a serial killer.
- 57:03That is not. That is not, I don't want to say
- 57:06the realisticness. Yes, yes, yes, if it if it could
- 57:10truly happen. Yes, if it can happen in real
- 57:12life, I'm really not interested in seeing.
- 57:14I mean The Walking Dead. Good afternoon.
- 57:15You never know. Walking zombies I don't know
- 57:18about. Yeah.
- 57:20It's. Possible.
- 57:21Possible. All right, we're coming up on
- 57:25like. 57 minutes so we can we can call it a day we.
- 57:31Can call it a podcast hopefully. Do you want?
- 57:33Hopefully I shut my yap enough. To make the.
- 57:35To make. Well, I mean, yeah, because I.
- 57:37I got to talk about the cat story.
- 57:38So do you want to do the outro since you you started with the
- 57:44outro? Oh, you started with an intro, I
- 57:47mean. I'm still going to I'm still
- 57:48going to put the voice guide before go try.
- 57:50So yeah, I'll, I'll do. A little outro.
- 57:52I just think it's funny. All right, here you.
- 57:54Go. All right, here you go.
