- 0:00Speaker 1: Could you turn me up a little bit in my headphones?
- 0:02Speaker 2: One, two, two, two, two. Is that you? That's really good.
- 0:06Speaker 2: We are back. Oh, my God.
- 0:10Speaker 1: What's happened, Mike?
- 0:11Speaker 2: I know. We are back, and this is, wow. Everyone
- 0:16Speaker 2: is excited. A round of applause. I mean, this is amazing.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Everyone chocks, but we popped up in everyone's feed on
- 0:24Speaker 2: this Halloween week, on a Thursday, and we put the
- 0:29Speaker 2: trick in trick-or-treat. You thought we were leaving, but we
- 0:33Speaker 2: never left.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It's like a daytime soap. We've been brought back from
- 0:36Speaker 1: the dead.
- 0:37Speaker 2: We've been brought back from the dead. It's And it's
- 0:46Speaker 2: on me. Look, I'll take it.
- 0:48Speaker 1: So can you explain what's happened to you?
- 0:50Speaker 2: I misread.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Lizzie's away, so I'm here today.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Sam Taunton is back filling in for Lizzie, who is
- 0:57Speaker 2: sitting out this week. She had to go to Brisbane
- 0:59Speaker 2: to tend to an ailing elderly mother.
- 1:02Speaker 1: She went to start. Really?
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yes. Oh, okay. Sad.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Oh, that is very sad.
- 1:06Speaker 2: But do the joke. No, no, no, no.
- 1:09Speaker 1: No, I was about to say she's going to start
- 1:11Speaker 1: another tennis podcast. She didn't get the brief. Is her mum... Anyway,
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'll send her a message.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Yeah, well, she had a fall, but I think she's fine. Oh, okay.
- 1:19Speaker 1: They do at that age, don't they?
- 1:20Speaker 2: They do.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Anyway, let's get to them.
- 1:23Speaker 2: So I misread a directive from the top saying that
- 1:28Speaker 2: we would be stopping just the Podlaver Arena as it
- 1:32Speaker 2: is now, and we would be... Subsumed under the umbrella
- 1:36Speaker 2: of the tennis.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Wait, so is this actually what, could you send me
- 1:39Speaker 1: a message being like they're putting the pod on the
- 1:42Speaker 1: back seat till the open?
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:43Speaker 1: But this is all a clerical error for me.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yeah, this is me skimming emails and just seeing the
- 1:50Speaker 2: negative words.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Well, and then Errol didn't pick it up. So you
- 1:53Speaker 1: posted an episode being like, it's kind of over for
- 1:55Speaker 1: a bit, and then it turns out that's just not true.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Turns out we are here to stay. We're the Terminator
- 2:01Speaker 2: of podcasts. Oh, that's great. You can't bring us down.
- 2:05Speaker 1: You can't bring us down. We're like John Farnham. We
- 2:08Speaker 1: just keep coming back.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is the big comeback episode. We
- 2:13Speaker 2: never took any time off.
- 2:14Speaker 1: There was no time off.
- 2:14Speaker 2: There was no time off.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Because also, no one, can I say, no one tried
- 2:17Speaker 1: to explain it to me. It was like, we're in
- 2:19Speaker 1: a text message group and you're like, oh, the podcast
- 2:21Speaker 1: is going on break or whatever.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 2:23Speaker 1: And then whenever it was, everyone was like, yo, can
- 2:26Speaker 1: you do the podcast next week? And I'm like, someone
- 2:28Speaker 1: needs to explain something to be here. Are we starting fresh?
- 2:31Speaker 1: Is this 2.0? Is that how we look at it? Or-
- 2:34Speaker 1: We just pretend like whatever happened never happened.
- 2:37Speaker 2: We pretend like every day is a gift and every
- 2:40Speaker 2: episode is the best gift under the Christmas tree.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Under the banner of the Australian Open Experience.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, I like that. Today is a gift, and
- 2:50Speaker 1: every day going ahead is a gift.
- 2:52Speaker 2: That's right. Just to clarify.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yes, what actually has happened?
- 2:56Speaker 2: It's the same feed, it's the same name, but we're now...
- 3:01Speaker 2: The Tennis Presents Podlabor Arena, and we're joined by other
- 3:06Speaker 2: podcasts under the feed. On the Monday, we have the sit-down...
- 3:10Speaker 2: And then we will be dropping on the Thursday as usual.
- 3:13Speaker 2: And there will be new exciting things leading up to
- 3:16Speaker 2: the Australian Open 2027 that we'll be a part of.
- 3:19Speaker 2: That will be collected under the feed of the tennis. Wow.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Corporate Mike.
- 3:24Speaker 1: That was unbelievable.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I see why you kind of zoned out of the
- 3:28Speaker 1: email because I was already like, what are you talking about?
- 3:30Speaker 1: So nothing is changing, really. It just turns out there's
- 3:33Speaker 1: some more podcasts being added and the AO are doing
- 3:36Speaker 1: some more in the podcasting space.
- 3:37Speaker 2: That's it. I think watch this space for new and
- 3:40Speaker 2: exciting ventures into the podcast bubble.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Are you AI? What are you doing? You're like a
- 3:45Speaker 1: wind-up toy that's just been programmed with keywords.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Well, I think... I agree.
- 3:55Speaker 1: It's a good point. It's a good point, Errol.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I should say, on last week's episode, I said, write
- 4:00Speaker 2: and say how much you love us, you want us
- 4:01Speaker 2: to keep going, and that was basically me seeking validation
- 4:05Speaker 2: because I'm a weak, insecure little man. Is that what
- 4:08Speaker 2: you want me to say?
- 4:09Speaker 1: I think that, I mean, I want you to say
- 4:12Speaker 1: something like that at all times. You know, Cassandra wrote
- 4:14Speaker 1: in and she said, the pod is the best. You
- 4:15Speaker 1: can't stop the pod. Having regular access to Mike's laugh
- 4:17Speaker 1: is an important part of my mental health treatment plan.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Thank you, Cassandra.
- 4:21Speaker 1: So you're saving lives out. So you're back, you're returning
- 4:24Speaker 1: is keeping people safe. Out of the loony bin.
- 4:26Speaker 2: So well done. I mean, I wouldn't say loony bin.
- 4:28Speaker 1: No, Cassandra specifically.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Oh, my God. But we had a deluge of messages
- 4:34Speaker 2: saying how much people loved us. And even, that's weird. Even.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Even Tan Nguyen wrote in and said, Dear AO team,
- 4:43Speaker 2: love the podcast. Hilarious stuff. Please continue. That's nice. As
- 4:47Speaker 2: well as so many messages to our Instagram accounts.
- 4:51Speaker 1: You know, Tan Nguyen who sent that message, you know,
- 4:54Speaker 1: please continue. It's rare that you ask for something like
- 4:56Speaker 1: that and then immediately you get a result like this.
- 4:59Speaker 2: I know.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I don't think that's ever happened to me. Maybe once
- 5:02Speaker 1: I've been like, I feel like a coffee and then
- 5:04Speaker 1: I've turned around and there's a cafe beside me.
- 5:05Speaker 2: We're basically the boyfriend or girlfriend that ends a relationship
- 5:09Speaker 2: and then a week later is like, please. Please take
- 5:12Speaker 2: me back. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Please. Please. I made
- 5:15Speaker 2: a mistake.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I'm an idiot. I saw the outside and it's not good.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I got no hits on Tinder. No one swiped right.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Show me perfect tennis.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Wow. Oh, no way. The Tons is back, and I
- 5:28Speaker 2: should say, before we get into all things tennis, I
- 5:31Speaker 2: do have a story from this very morning. I had
- 5:35Speaker 2: the things you need to know for this story is
- 5:37Speaker 2: we have a.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Oh, that's a nice way to tell a story.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Like, to start with, like, these are facts. Get on
- 5:40Speaker 1: board with these facts.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Context.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like when they do the headlines at the
- 5:44Speaker 1: start of a news article before you, like, go deep
- 5:46Speaker 1: into it. This is great.
- 5:47Speaker 2: So, I guess the headline is, one of our cats
- 5:51Speaker 2: has diarrhea.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Well.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I wish that was a surprise at the end of
- 5:59Speaker 1: the story.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I'm not bearing the lead.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Oh, what's that? Oh, the AO have just said we
- 6:05Speaker 1: are canceling the podcast now.
- 6:07Speaker 2: No, one of the cats is sick, like on a
- 6:09Speaker 2: new diet, it's not adjusting well. Okay, that's what you
- 6:12Speaker 2: need to know. You also need to know there was
- 6:14Speaker 2: three tradies coming this morning. A Sparky, a Tyler, and
- 6:20Speaker 2: a Plummer. They said they'd be here at 8 a.m.,
- 6:23Speaker 2: at my place at 8 a.m., and then they showed
- 6:25Speaker 2: up at 7.15.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Oh, they're keen.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Keen.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I like that. Yeah, get into it early, boys.
- 6:30Speaker 2: So I ran out of bed to let them in.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And as I turned the corner to the hallway to
- 6:36Speaker 2: my front door, I slipped in a giant pile of diarrhea.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Can I say, this... Yeah, what do you got?
- 6:46Speaker 2: Uh....
- 6:52Speaker 1: That was perfect. This is Tennis News.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Lorenzo Massetti wins the ATP 250 in Lyon. His first
- 7:02Speaker 2: title since 2022. What I want to talk about in
- 7:06Speaker 2: the Lyon tournament.
- 7:07Speaker 1: What would you like to talk about, Mike?
- 7:08Speaker 2: Is that much was made of Carlos Alcaraz's mustache.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I want to pivot... to an even more impressive display
- 7:16Speaker 2: of facial hair.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 2: That no one's talking about. Tommy Paul's a beautiful beard.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I mean, I've been talking about it.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 1: It's, like, luscious. It is. And it's kind of great because,
- 7:26Speaker 1: I mean, I know you're a long-time Tommy Paul fan.
- 7:30Speaker 2: TP.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Yeah, you say that all the time. And pump your chest.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:34Speaker 1: But I also like Tommy Paul, and he does seem
- 7:35Speaker 1: like a masculine figure. And this has really solidified that
- 7:39Speaker 1: view that he's got. I didn't think he had it
- 7:41Speaker 1: in him. A lot of tennis guys, I don't want to, like,
- 7:43Speaker 1: you know, but they're not great.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:45Speaker 1: But they're not like the most like beefy.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Low T you're saying.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I'm just saying like, you know, the term soy boy,
- 7:52Speaker 1: soy boy. There's a bit of that energy. If you're
- 7:54Speaker 1: ranking in the hierarchy of like professional sportsmen, like, you know,
- 7:58Speaker 1: you've got like UFC fighters, boxers, football, like NFL players
- 8:02Speaker 1: and tennis players are way down. Like there's only golfers
- 8:04Speaker 1: and chess players below them.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I can't wait until we have Karen Kashinov in here
- 8:08Speaker 2: and you tell him he has low T to his
- 8:11Speaker 2: face and you go, why do you have a girl's name?
- 8:14Speaker 2: It's not the girl's name. It's not the girl's name?
- 8:15Speaker 2: It's Arminian. It's Arminian name.
- 8:17Speaker 1: It's Arminian name. No, I will stand by it. I'm
- 8:19Speaker 1: saying they're obviously more like harder than me, but in
- 8:25Speaker 1: the scale of professional sportsmen. Anyway, so that's why seeing
- 8:28Speaker 1: this sheer Tom Selleck-esque masculinity just coming out of Tommy Paul,
- 8:33Speaker 1: I think was good for the sport.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Ah, true. And it's kind of a gritty reboot. Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:39Speaker 2: He's usually clean shaven and now it's like the sequel
- 8:43Speaker 2: to a superhero movie.
- 8:44Speaker 1: So did he get, did he get divorced? He's been
- 8:46Speaker 1: drinking whiskey alone or something. Maybe it's what he, cause
- 8:49Speaker 1: I've often, you know, when you're doing standup and you
- 8:51Speaker 1: might've had a bad run of gigs or something, I
- 8:54Speaker 1: will try.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Never happened to me.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeah. You can't relate to this.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Okay. Well, I often will try anything. I'll start doing,
- 8:58Speaker 1: I'll start wearing a cap. I'll wear glasses on stage.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I'll be like, maybe I'll wear a suit today. Like
- 9:05Speaker 1: you'll try anything. I do wonder if he's like, This
- 9:08Speaker 1: is to see if it helps his tennis.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Yeah, well, he did pretty well in Lyon. He got
- 9:12Speaker 2: to the semifinals losing to Taylor Fritz, who then Fritz
- 9:17Speaker 2: went on to play Massetti in the final, was beaten
- 9:19Speaker 2: in straight sets. A lot of unforced errors from Fritz's racket.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Do you think Fritz has a big stage problem, do
- 9:27Speaker 1: you think?
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I just think this year he's been dealing with
- 9:31Speaker 2: some injuries and he hasn't totally found his form. By
- 9:35Speaker 2: this time in the season, right, like it's been a
- 9:37Speaker 2: full year of tournaments and tennis. I just think some
- 9:39Speaker 2: of these guys are a little broken.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Oh, they must be so broken. They must be carrying
- 9:43Speaker 1: so many, like, just aches and pains.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Yeah. So, Lorenzo Mazzetti, who, like I said, is his
- 9:50Speaker 2: first title since 2022. He's obviously been dealing with injuries himself.
- 9:54Speaker 2: But uh fell to the ground in celebration was a
- 9:57Speaker 2: huge beating uh fritz and getting uh the 250 title.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Talk about fritz having like a big stage problem massetti
- 10:05Speaker 1: has lost seven atp tour finals in a row up
- 10:09Speaker 1: into this point so no wonder he would be relieved
- 10:11Speaker 1: yeah because that is like that's a real loser.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Well that is like i mean mentally it would wear
- 10:19Speaker 2: that's what.
- 10:19Speaker 1: I mean yeah i'm not saying like i'm just saying
- 10:20Speaker 1: it's like to overcome that barrier would be like astronomical
- 10:24Speaker 1: because there would be darkness yeah after seven in.
- 10:27Speaker 2: A row yeah so you're saying karen kashinov low t
- 10:30Speaker 2: lorenzo massetti loser yeah anyone else you.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Want to uh and you covered in shit And Diarrhea Mike,
- 10:38Speaker 1: that's who I want to throw. DM. Tennis News, with
- 10:42Speaker 1: no more diarrhea chat from now on.
- 10:44Speaker 2: So in the other 250 News, Talon Grieksmoor won in
- 10:47Speaker 2: Belgium over Jan-Leonard Struff. The upcoming ATP tournaments, Austria and
- 10:52Speaker 2: Switzerland 500s, and then the Paris 1000 in November, if
- 10:56Speaker 2: Paris is still standing.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Oh, well, I haven't even thought about this. Obviously, things
- 11:02Speaker 1: are going on in Paris. It's not conducive, really, to the...
- 11:05Speaker 1: To tennis. But part of me does think the aristocratic
- 11:08Speaker 1: background of tennis will be quite separate to these student protests.
- 11:12Speaker 1: You know, I don't think they're going to touch each
- 11:13Speaker 1: other too much.
- 11:14Speaker 2: But isn't it the very thing they're protesting?
- 11:17Speaker 1: Yes, I know. But I think they want more pencils
- 11:19Speaker 1: at university or something, not to minimize their cause, even
- 11:22Speaker 1: though I clearly just have. I think we could all
- 11:26Speaker 1: take a leaf out of Paris, by the way.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Oh, really?
- 11:28Speaker 1: I mean, in Australia, we kind of just forget and
- 11:31Speaker 1: we're just kind of a bit chilled. Yes, there are protests.
- 11:33Speaker 2: We're docile here.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you know what I mean? Next
- 11:35Speaker 1: time I have to pay $ 17. 50 for a spritz on
- 11:38Speaker 1: a Saturday afternoon, I'm like, should we burn down Fed Square?
- 11:42Speaker 1: I think we should show a bit of that energy.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean, I toe the line.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. That's what you do. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Of course.
- 11:50Speaker 1: You toe the line. We should have burned down Fed Square.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Our favorite podcast got canceled last week. Yeah. And it
- 11:54Speaker 1: just came back. So actually, maybe that's an argument for
- 11:57Speaker 1: not doing anything.
- 11:58Speaker 2: That's true.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Tennis News.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Over to the WTA. Rabakina played Leila Fernandez in the
- 12:06Speaker 2: final in Ningbo. It's a 500 event in China. Rabakina...
- 12:12Speaker 2: wins easily over Fernandez, 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and
- 12:16Speaker 2: 16 minutes. I'd like to draw your attention to the
- 12:21Speaker 2: WTA site. who when a player wins, they kind of
- 12:25Speaker 2: put them forward in a photo and then the losing player,
- 12:29Speaker 2: they fade away.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Like it's a, so there's Rebecca. I like it.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I think it's a nice move.
- 12:35Speaker 2: You like that?
- 12:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:36Speaker 2: It's not too back to the future and you've screwed
- 12:39Speaker 2: up the timeline and Layla Fernandez doesn't exist.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Well, I mean, it's only like, obviously it's just to
- 12:45Speaker 1: see the winner or something. It's not like they take
- 12:47Speaker 1: them out the back and then like disappear them.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Well, I think the tournament winner does the job.
- 12:53Speaker 1: You are right. The tournament winner really does. You don't
- 12:56Speaker 1: even really need tournament winner. You could just be like,
- 12:58Speaker 1: One and two or something, really.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Just put the score line there. 6-2, 6-2.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Well, what more could they do? Do you think they
- 13:04Speaker 1: should just keep fading into darkness?
- 13:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Fernandez slowly just disappears. Or they decapitate her alive.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Well, the fading away just seems to be a little
- 13:13Speaker 2: harsh on a player who made the final huge event.
- 13:18Speaker 2: It's like, oh, she doesn't even exist to us.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Well, you know, I mean, what's the famous saying? No
- 13:23Speaker 1: one remembers who comes second. Well, yeah, no one ever
- 13:25Speaker 1: remembers who's... Yeah, but you make the final.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:28Speaker 1: And it's like, it's very unfair because you do kind of...
- 13:30Speaker 1: You've done 95% of the work to make the final.
- 13:32Speaker 1: And then you get slowly kind of like pixelated out.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Imagine if that happened in real life. Maybe if they're
- 13:38Speaker 1: leading to the Paris 1000.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:39Speaker 1: They could do.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Something like, because, you know, they used to love the
- 13:44Speaker 1: guillotine in Paris. I'm not saying they bring it back,
- 13:47Speaker 1: but maybe there could be some like, I don't know,
- 13:50Speaker 1: like performative thing that the loser has to put.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Their head in a guillotine.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And then a fake thing comes down and they pretend
- 13:57Speaker 1: to chop their head off.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Beautiful stuff. Yeah. And then what happens when it hits
- 14:00Speaker 2: their head? I don't know.
- 14:01Speaker 1: It's just kind of like culture. No, it's like fake.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Maybe it's a soft. It's not an actual blade.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Right.
- 14:05Speaker 1: It's like a soft blade. fake blade right and so
- 14:08Speaker 1: they don't get decapitated and then the crowd cheers for
- 14:11Speaker 1: the acknowledgement of history culture and puts a bit of
- 14:14Speaker 1: like something more on the line but also a bit
- 14:17Speaker 1: of theatrical drama.
- 14:18Speaker 2: That's fun but also i think you want to see
- 14:21Speaker 2: the head tumble off.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And hit oh you do so maybe you need a
- 14:23Speaker 1: fake head yeah so they put the head in and
- 14:26Speaker 1: then the fake thing comes down and then like the
- 14:28Speaker 1: ball kid has a fake head that's been decapitated and
- 14:31Speaker 1: then just rolls it.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Out yeah What would... Okay.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Actually, no, no, no.
- 14:37Speaker 2: This is good. You're decapitated.
- 14:41Speaker 1: So I'm decapitated.
- 14:42Speaker 2: But this is scientifically accurate that you could say... Actually,
- 14:46Speaker 2: the brain is still functioning enough after your head's chopped
- 14:49Speaker 2: off where you could say one last word or phrase.
- 14:53Speaker 2: But you're decapitated. Your head tumbles into the basket and...
- 14:56Speaker 2: And you look up at the hangman or the guillotine man.
- 14:59Speaker 2: What are they? The executioner.
- 15:00Speaker 1: The executioner.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Or the people in the public. You get one last
- 15:03Speaker 2: final little word or phrase with your bloody decapitated head.
- 15:07Speaker 2: What do you say?
- 15:08Speaker 1: I think I referred... I wanted people to know, like,
- 15:13Speaker 1: if there was a close call and it would call
- 15:15Speaker 1: it out, I'm going to say it was out. Like,
- 15:17Speaker 1: you know, still, like, keep talking about the game.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Still, maybe. Oh, really?
- 15:20Speaker 1: I'm not going to say anything like, you know, like
- 15:22Speaker 1: noble or... I'm going to say it wasn't a chub
- 15:24Speaker 1: close call.
- 15:25Speaker 2: It was out.
- 15:26Speaker 1: What are you going to say?
- 15:27Speaker 2: I do a slur. Which one? Well, you got your pick,
- 15:33Speaker 2: but I'll just say a slur.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Imagine getting dragged and cancelled while you're decapitated. They're like,
- 15:40Speaker 1: time is up on decapitated men like him.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Because I don't have to deal with the aftermath. So
- 15:47Speaker 2: I think, yeah, slur. Yeah, slur.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Locked and loaded.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Ready to go.
- 15:51Speaker 1: It is fun. Errol, what would you pick? It's a
- 15:53Speaker 1: fun game.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Isn't it? No, I'd probably try and say something cool
- 15:57Speaker 2: from my youth, like skate or die.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Clearly die.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Anyway, Rebecca, so that's a crazy year she's had up
- 16:08Speaker 1: to this date. So that's four titles she's won.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Yes.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Player of the year.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Player of the year. I mean, definitely an argument to
- 16:15Speaker 2: be made. And then we'll see her in the WTA finals,
- 16:19Speaker 2: which will be in Indian Wells. Otherwise, the WTA side
- 16:24Speaker 2: has a Tokyo 500 coming up next, which will round
- 16:28Speaker 2: out the Asian Hardcourt Swing. The streak, the wind. I
- 16:31Speaker 2: feel like my body is super special. Roger Federer news.
- 16:35Speaker 2: He said, never say never when asked if he will
- 16:39Speaker 2: coach one day.
- 16:41Speaker 1: He'd be a great coach, I think. Not all, you know,
- 16:43Speaker 1: great legends become great coaches. But he's got that demeanor
- 16:47Speaker 1: that I think he would be like, he would be nice. Like,
- 16:50Speaker 1: he'd be gentle.
- 16:51Speaker 2: He'd be gentle. And obviously, his tips would be pretty worthwhile. Yeah.
- 16:58Speaker 2: But also.
- 16:59Speaker 1: It doesn't mean, like, Michael Jordan, for example, he'd be
- 17:02Speaker 1: a crazy bad coach, I think. Like Maradona. He'd be
- 17:06Speaker 1: a tennis coach. He'd be a real bad tennis coach,
- 17:08Speaker 1: I think. But Maradona famously tried to be a manager
- 17:12Speaker 1: in football. It was horrific. Almost ruined the Argentinian national team. But, like, Federer,
- 17:16Speaker 1: I think he's got... Like, if you look at the
- 17:18Speaker 1: big three, right? Djokovic, Nadal, Federer. Who would you take
- 17:23Speaker 1: coaching you? Federer all day, surely.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, yeah. Definitely. But also, these guys have such
- 17:30Speaker 2: an insane talent that if they're just like, oh, yeah,
- 17:33Speaker 2: just on this next shot, just rip the hardest backhand
- 17:37Speaker 2: you've ever hit in your life.
- 17:38Speaker 1: They just do the crazy superhuman thing that I would do.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Would you do that? Try and do that. I mean,
- 17:43Speaker 2: he said he's too busy with kids, but he hasn't
- 17:45Speaker 2: completely ruled it out. I would like to see this
- 17:50Speaker 2: happen with Federer coaching. Either he takes a young prodigy,
- 17:55Speaker 2: not even a prodigy, someone who hasn't even picked up
- 17:57Speaker 2: a racket. Okay. So he takes like a seven-year-old and
- 18:00Speaker 2: then trains them to be the best tennis player in
- 18:02Speaker 2: the world. Okay. Or he takes a middle-aged 45-year-old man
- 18:06Speaker 2: who might have some diarrhea, cat stains on him.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Covered all over him, yeah.
- 18:11Speaker 2: And trains him to compete.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Can he give him a clean first?
- 18:15Speaker 2: Yes, he gives me a clean.
- 18:17Speaker 1: He trains you.
- 18:18Speaker 2: And then to compete at a professional level.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Okay. I think that's great. You think that's the best
- 18:23Speaker 1: use of his time? Yes. But you wouldn't want, I
- 18:27Speaker 1: don't think you'd want Djokovic as a coach. I think
- 18:29Speaker 1: he's just scary. I think he'd also make you buy
- 18:31Speaker 1: into like some life philosophies that he has. I think
- 18:34Speaker 1: it's like an all in package. You're doing Djokovic lifestyle. Nadal,
- 18:38Speaker 1: I think would be like, too agitated to coach. Yeah.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I think he'd be like, nah, nah, nah. He'd be
- 18:43Speaker 1: a bit frazzled and then like.
- 18:44Speaker 2: If you can't do what he's asking you to do,
- 18:47Speaker 2: he would, yeah, get agitated. Totally. Yeah.
- 18:49Speaker 1: So I think of those three, you would just want
- 18:51Speaker 1: Federer to coach you.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Yeah. All right. Yeah. So we're putting it out there.
- 18:54Speaker 1: So you're open to coaching from Fed. That's what we're
- 18:57Speaker 1: putting out there.
- 18:58Speaker 2: That's what we're saying. Okay.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Well, great offer, Fed.
- 19:01Speaker 2: I mean, stranger things have happened. No, they haven't.
- 19:03Speaker 1: They actually haven't. That would actually be the strangest thing
- 19:07Speaker 1: to ever happen. If he started coaching you in an
- 19:10Speaker 1: attempt to make you a top flight tennis player.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Well, stranger things have happened. I'm really happy with my-
- 19:17Speaker 2: Super crazy. Super, super crazy. Super happy. Super cute. Super happy.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Token Alexiola segment of the show. The Statue of Limitations,
- 19:30Speaker 2: otherwise known as Monumental Failures. Let's look- At the statue
- 19:36Speaker 2: that was made in Alex Iala's likeness. I don't know
- 19:40Speaker 2: if you've seen this.
- 19:41Speaker 1: It's by a Filipino statue artist. Is that correct?
- 19:45Speaker 2: Yes.
- 19:45Speaker 1: What do you think of that?
- 19:48Speaker 2: It's not. good.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I think she looks a bit like an elf.
- 19:54Speaker 2: She is an elfin.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Yeah, like the ears have kind of made her look like,
- 19:58Speaker 1: I don't know, some kind of fantasy novel.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Lord of the Rings.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Where they play tennis, which would be strange.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I don't love it, but I also... think statues would
- 20:09Speaker 1: be hard to do i never understand why we're into
- 20:11Speaker 1: statues by the way as a broader thing yeah because
- 20:14Speaker 1: like what i mean you see when people pull down
- 20:17Speaker 1: statues it's like after a while they're just taking up
- 20:19Speaker 1: space and people like no no no they're in the
- 20:21Speaker 1: way we don't kind of like what they're into right
- 20:23Speaker 1: i'm not saying that about yala but like i don't
- 20:25Speaker 1: know like.
- 20:26Speaker 2: This one yeah very was it approved by animation well
- 20:30Speaker 2: it says a filipino made sculpture inspired by tennis star
- 20:33Speaker 2: alex yala has drawn mixed reactions online prompting its elderly
- 20:37Speaker 2: artist To apologize for the artwork.
- 20:40Speaker 1: He's doing his best.
- 20:42Speaker 2: So the statue was revealed about half a year ago,
- 20:46Speaker 2: but it's only now that because of online backlash, he
- 20:50Speaker 2: has apologized for it. Poor guy.
- 20:53Speaker 1: This online lynch mob that exists out there online, just.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Having a crack. Look at him.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Oh, my God. He's an angel.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Yeah. And it looks better there in the background. And
- 21:03Speaker 2: maybe he's cleaned it up a little bit.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Yeah, he got rid of the elf ears, I think.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah. Poor guy.
- 21:08Speaker 1: I tell you what.
- 21:09Speaker 2: You know what?
- 21:10Speaker 1: You can just, like... Like, you don't need permission to
- 21:12Speaker 1: make a statue of someone.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:14Speaker 1: You can just do a statue of someone and, like,
- 21:16Speaker 1: really ruin their day. Yeah.
- 21:17Speaker 2: But she's also weirdly mid-two-handed forehand.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. This is the problem. And this is
- 21:23Speaker 1: the issue in tennis movies as well. Yeah. You know, in, like, Challengers.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Accuracy. Yeah. It's like.
- 21:28Speaker 1: It's like the Ted Lasso situation. It's hard to take
- 21:31Speaker 1: it seriously if you are a real fan of the
- 21:33Speaker 1: sport because they're not professional athletes and they're always going
- 21:36Speaker 1: to look like amateurs. And then the reality of what
- 21:39Speaker 1: you're watching disappears entirely. So yeah, two-handed forehand, you're like,
- 21:42Speaker 1: look at that grip.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I mean, I saw Challengers with a friend of the show,
- 21:47Speaker 2: great comedian, tennis coach, Ben Caution. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:50Speaker 2: And we just sat there griping about Zendaya's grip.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Don't get me started. Nicholas Cage and Tim Kappa, watch
- 21:55Speaker 1: his golf swing. I'm like, this is more realistic than
- 21:58Speaker 1: a driving range pro. banging the hot lady than trying
- 22:01Speaker 1: to win the U.S. Open. It's the fact that he
- 22:02Speaker 1: can even make contact with a swing that gets that
- 22:05Speaker 1: crossed over at the top.
- 22:05Speaker 2: True. I don't know.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I support the old guy. I hate that he's kind
- 22:08Speaker 1: of been hated on.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I think it's the thought that counts. You know, the
- 22:12Speaker 2: old guy made a tribute to his favorite athlete. I
- 22:16Speaker 2: think it's beautiful.
- 22:17Speaker 1: But also, what statues are good? what statues are you
- 22:19Speaker 1: ever like that's bang on you don't hear about the
- 22:21Speaker 1: good ones well you never see the good they're all
- 22:23Speaker 1: a bit crap.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Yeah i mean because it's hard to do some of
- 22:26Speaker 2: the old ones that are still around what's the one
- 22:28Speaker 2: walking up to the mcg and there's a guy like
- 22:31Speaker 2: for some reason doing.
- 22:32Speaker 1: That do you know that the guy doing that.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Yeah there's a guy you walk up to.
- 22:36Speaker 1: The like what you do when a guy overtakes you
- 22:37Speaker 1: in traffic and you're like yeah yeah.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Yeah what no norm something to me Norm Smith. Do
- 22:44Speaker 2: you have it?
- 22:44Speaker 1: Oh, the guy. I don't think he's got the.
- 22:46Speaker 2: One finger up. He's not doing this.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Was he the greatest ever player in a grand final?
- 22:52Speaker 2: He was one of the best coaches. He is absolutely
- 22:55Speaker 2: doing that.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Can we get that picture up there? He kind of
- 22:58Speaker 1: is doing that, yeah. If you're an international, this is
- 23:01Speaker 1: an AFL Australian rules football guy, and he's a coach.
- 23:05Speaker 1: And the medal for best on field in the grand
- 23:06Speaker 1: final is named after him. But he's also seemingly having
- 23:10Speaker 1: a swing at someone. Right there for maybe having a
- 23:13Speaker 1: big ego and a small penis.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Yes, he's limiting someone's manhood by the gesture in his fingers,
- 23:19Speaker 2: which is rude.
- 23:20Speaker 1: But did he... I mean, that's annoying that the statue
- 23:24Speaker 1: is made... He wouldn't have approved that. That'd be like
- 23:26Speaker 1: if I'd made a statue of you right now covered
- 23:28Speaker 1: in cat shit, and then that lasts for eternity.
- 23:31Speaker 2: It should.
- 23:32Speaker 1: That's what you request.
- 23:35Speaker 2: So keeping on tennis statues, Andy Murray with his terracotta...
- 23:41Speaker 2: uh this is statue this is uh what do you
- 23:44Speaker 2: what do you make of this.
- 23:45Speaker 1: I like when statues are taller than the actual person
- 23:47Speaker 1: yeah so that's good i really do because it bumps
- 23:50Speaker 1: you up and he looks more jacked and but also
- 23:53Speaker 1: it's like he's kind of in um i guess you
- 23:55Speaker 1: would say like 13th century.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Like terracotta warrior is that what it's called yeah so
- 24:00Speaker 2: that's after winning the shanghai Open, they make the Terracotta Warriors.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I could have that wrong.
- 24:07Speaker 1: But it doesn't look like... You don't look at that
- 24:09Speaker 1: and go, that's Andy Murray, do you?
- 24:11Speaker 2: No, you look at that and go.
- 24:13Speaker 1: I'd say Andy Murray's white.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Yes. You think.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Sorry, I'll just miss the whole point.
- 24:22Speaker 2: He doesn't look too impressed by it.
- 24:24Speaker 1: This is crazy.
- 24:25Speaker 2: This is Lucille Ball.
- 24:26Speaker 1: That's not real, is it?
- 24:27Speaker 2: Turned into a ghoul that will hunt you in your sleep.
- 24:31Speaker 1: It looks like Burt Reynolds. Look at those eyes.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Yeah, that is nightmare fuel.
- 24:35Speaker 1: That is terrible.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Did the old Filipino bloke do that one as well?
- 24:39Speaker 2: That is horrific. Yeah, here is Kate Moss, and they
- 24:45Speaker 2: kind of like... I don't know about this. Her head
- 24:48Speaker 2: and hair and everything is nice, a gold statue. What's
- 24:50Speaker 2: the creative.
- 24:51Speaker 1: But.
- 24:52Speaker 2: The choice on the pose here.
- 24:53Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Is wild. I mean, yeah, like who... She's in, let's say,
- 24:59Speaker 2: pretzel formation.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Like if you commissioned a sculpture and the sculpture came
- 25:04Speaker 1: back with that, you'd be like.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Can I look at your search history? Like, this is
- 25:07Speaker 1: not on.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Where is that going to be? Like, you can't have
- 25:11Speaker 1: that in public.
- 25:12Speaker 2: I know. If, yeah, you had a sculpture made of
- 25:14Speaker 2: you and the likeness of the head and the hair
- 25:18Speaker 2: was nice. Yeah. But then it was you.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Spread eagles just on the ground. Like, it's like, I'd
- 25:22Speaker 1: be like, come on. Yeah. You've wasted a lot of
- 25:24Speaker 1: material here.
- 25:25Speaker 2: It's you, like, bent over, but you're, like, peeking back, like,
- 25:28Speaker 2: with a shh.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Oh, I'm saying shh, shh, shh.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I have a secret. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Would
- 25:32Speaker 2: you be honored?
- 25:33Speaker 1: Well, I'm a statue that can talk. And there's, like,
- 25:35Speaker 1: a little speaker at the bottom.
- 25:37Speaker 2: It's what it says. It's what it's saying. The shush
- 25:39Speaker 2: says you have a secret.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I'd like to be, for me personally, I think it's
- 25:42Speaker 1: disrespectful to Kate Moss, but me personally, I would love
- 25:44Speaker 1: it to know that I was a bit of a
- 25:46Speaker 1: sex symbol person. enough to be remembered that way.
- 25:49Speaker 2: To be pretzeled by the sculptor.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and everyone that walked... And then this.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Is the most famous one.
- 25:55Speaker 1: So this is Lionel... This is Messi. This is Cristiano Ronaldo.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:02Speaker 1: And I feel like, because he is like... The sculpture
- 26:05Speaker 1: is Messi.
- 26:09Speaker 2: It is Messi.
- 26:10Speaker 1: But don't you think, because he's got like a generic...
- 26:12Speaker 1: Handsome face. Handsome face. It's kind of like, it's like AI.
- 26:16Speaker 1: His face is already kind of AI.
- 26:17Speaker 2: So it's hard to.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Well, it's kind of hard to do. So they've tried
- 26:20Speaker 1: to do like, they've gone too heavy on the crow's
- 26:22Speaker 1: feet around. Like that's a bit.
- 26:24Speaker 2: They've aged him. Yeah.
- 26:25Speaker 1: He looks bad, man.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:27Speaker 2: It's like. It looks like he got. It's not the worst.
- 26:30Speaker 2: It's not as bad as Lucille Ball.
- 26:32Speaker 1: The more you look at it.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:34Speaker 1: The more it kind of looks like him. Yeah. But
- 26:37Speaker 1: at first glance, it looks like he got. hitting the
- 26:39Speaker 1: head with the ball or something a lot a lot
- 26:41Speaker 1: over and repeatedly he never used his feet just head.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Just headers front of the head all career yeah and
- 26:47Speaker 2: then to keep on theme of decapitated heads oh fantastic
- 26:50Speaker 2: this is uh just the bust of the head here
- 26:53Speaker 2: oh yeah it's so what would he say once this
- 26:56Speaker 2: he would i think with this look this this head
- 26:59Speaker 2: would say kill me do you think kill me.
- 27:05Speaker 1: You think it would say that?
- 27:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I think it would say slur. I think definitely a slur.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Even though you've chopped the head off, it would say,
- 27:10Speaker 2: kill me.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Kill me.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Let me die.
- 27:13Speaker 1: My friend is Piers Ackermann. He loves Piers.
- 27:15Speaker 2: So that was... That was a great segment. I love
- 27:19Speaker 2: that segment. Monumental failures.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I love that segment. What's this one? Is that Dwayne Wade?
- 27:27Speaker 2: Oh, I do remember that one. We have Dwayne Wade. Oh,
- 27:31Speaker 2: that's good. Miami Heat player. Immortalized.
- 27:34Speaker 1: He looks like he got caught in Pompeii in that.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Yeah, he's mid-screen. I mean, just like stuck there.
- 27:41Speaker 1: The problem with a statue, you can't have a mouth
- 27:43Speaker 1: open like that. People are just going to put stuff
- 27:45Speaker 1: in your mouth.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Do you know what I mean? And I don't even
- 27:48Speaker 1: mean in like a gross way. It's just like I
- 27:49Speaker 1: would put like a sausage roll paper in there.
- 27:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Just because it's funny.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, if there's a bin and there's that.
- 27:56Speaker 1: You put it in there for sure.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Okay, now get excited. It's time for my segment. What
- 28:03Speaker 1: do we call this again?
- 28:03Speaker 2: Approaching.
- 28:06Speaker 1: The next. The next. Didn't we have another name for it?
- 28:11Speaker 2: For you, it was Grand Sam.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Grand Sam.
- 28:14Speaker 2: That's it.
- 28:15Speaker 1: God. That was on the old podcast.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Now we're brand new and shiny and everything's different. Yeah, exactly.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Welcome back to everyone's favorite segment, Grand Sam. Thanks, mate. Thanks, mate.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Okay, well, let's kick it off this week. Jung Jin-Wen
- 28:30Speaker 1: is a global ambassador for Turkish Airlines. I know you're
- 28:35Speaker 1: a big fan of all of those things. I actually
- 28:37Speaker 1: got invited to play in a golf date for Turkish Airlines,
- 28:39Speaker 1: but I couldn't do it. But there was great prizes
- 28:41Speaker 1: on offer. Anyway, they've just dropped a new commercial. She's
- 28:45Speaker 1: in it. Have a look at this. Every single journey
- 28:48Speaker 1: has its own story. This is dubbed by, this is
- 28:51Speaker 1: not her voice.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Ah, thank you.
- 28:54Speaker 1: She has quite a posh English accent. It's every moment
- 28:56Speaker 1: you experience.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Along the way.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Wow. She's getting on the plane here.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Okay.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Signing tennis balls. It's about winning hearts. So true. The
- 29:06Speaker 1: PR is so important in tennis. Sydney. London. London. London. Paris. Melbourne.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Madrid.
- 29:18Speaker 1: That first cheer, cutting through the dead silence, gives you hope.
- 29:22Speaker 1: What in God's name are they talking about?
- 29:25Speaker 2: It's pretty highfalutin for a.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Turkish Airlines?
- 29:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:29Speaker 1: For an... It's like... Just give me a ticket on
- 29:31Speaker 1: the plane.
- 29:32Speaker 2: I mean, it's cinematic.
- 29:33Speaker 1: What truly turned the journey into a story.
- 29:36Speaker 2: What?
- 29:36Speaker 1: That's beautiful.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Turkish Airlines.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Okay.
- 29:43Speaker 2: It's quite the cinematic ad. And like some of the shots,
- 29:45Speaker 2: like especially the surface changing through her one service motion,
- 29:49Speaker 2: I thought was pretty cool. Yeah. But if you're Turkish Airlines,
- 29:53Speaker 2: I think you would go with like an Andre Agassi.
- 29:56Speaker 2: And at the start of the ad, he's bald as
- 29:58Speaker 2: he is now. And at the end of the ad,
- 30:00Speaker 2: he's got hair. Because Turkish Airlines' main clientele is men
- 30:05Speaker 2: getting hair plugs.
- 30:06Speaker 1: It would ruin and they never mention it at all.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:10Speaker 1: It's not like they're like, they don't even hint to it.
- 30:12Speaker 1: They're just like, it's pretty, it's like a before and after.
- 30:16Speaker 1: They're like, fly Turkish Airlines. And then it's kind of like,
- 30:19Speaker 1: you know why.
- 30:19Speaker 2: You know why. Yeah, yeah. He boards the plane in
- 30:22Speaker 2: the States and he's like getting the royal treatment and
- 30:25Speaker 2: all this. And then he boards in Istanbul. Yeah. And
- 30:28Speaker 2: he's just got.
- 30:28Speaker 1: This like full. And like happier.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:33Speaker 1: And he's like a bit more rustic.
- 30:35Speaker 2: He's ripped. He's younger.
- 30:37Speaker 1: He's younger.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's great. And then they're like Turkish Airlines. Yeah.
- 30:41Speaker 1: It's the best decision you'll ever make.
- 30:43Speaker 2: You know why. You know why. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:46Speaker 1: You know why it's the best tagline.
- 30:49Speaker 2: You know why.
- 30:50Speaker 1: That's great. What would you do if you had a
- 30:53Speaker 1: deal with an Australian airline like Rex or Jetstar or something?
- 30:56Speaker 2: Like what type of ad?
- 30:58Speaker 1: Yeah, if you had creative decision-making.
- 31:01Speaker 2: I mean, Rex, I think, doesn't even need to advertise
- 31:06Speaker 2: because it's like a necessity for people that have to
- 31:09Speaker 2: go to regional. Whatever. What are you going to do? Yeah.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Rex would be like, you got no other options. It's like, walk. Walk?
- 31:16Speaker 2: Question mark? No. Come with us.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Fly with us at crazy prices.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Drive for 12 hours through the desert or Rex.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Or Rex.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:27Speaker 1: And it does work.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Anyway, okay.
- 31:29Speaker 1: That was pretty good. Now, more exciting news. This is
- 31:30Speaker 1: huge for, I think, for everyone involved, especially people that
- 31:34Speaker 1: spend a bit of time online. Nick Kyrgios has launched
- 31:37Speaker 1: a YouTube channel called I think he's angling to be
- 31:40Speaker 1: the Mr. Beast of the tennis world.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Okay.
- 31:43Speaker 1: An area, I think, which has long been lacking within
- 31:46Speaker 1: the tennis community.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Our very own Logan Paul.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Yeah, Logan Paul.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 31:50Speaker 1: That kind of stuff. And it's not for me.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Okay.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Video number one, he's playing tennis without rackets. Today, we're
- 31:59Speaker 1: going to play some doubles tennis, but with a twist.
- 32:01Speaker 2: We're swapping our rackets for keyboards. Okay.
- 32:04Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on that? Because the racket traditionally
- 32:06Speaker 1: has been a big part of tennis.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Well, I think as long as he can smash it
- 32:11Speaker 2: to pieces in anger, he'll be happy. Playing with the
- 32:15Speaker 2: office keyboard here.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Oh, Elliot Loney's in this video.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Yeah, comedian.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Comedian impersonator, Elliot Loney.
- 32:21Speaker 2: So they're all playing with an office keyboard.
- 32:23Speaker 1: It's going to turn into pickleball, that's what it looks
- 32:25Speaker 1: like now.
- 32:26Speaker 2: I hate to say it, but Kyrgios looks more invested
- 32:29Speaker 2: in this match than he has in a professional match.
- 32:32Speaker 1: You know, if you go down a YouTube hole, there's
- 32:35Speaker 1: just video on video about Kyrgios, the greatest waste of talent.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Is he the most talented tennis player to ever live?
- 32:41Speaker 1: But maybe the problem is that tennis was not his game.
- 32:46Speaker 1: His game was actually keyboard tennis. And he would have
- 32:49Speaker 1: been arguably the greatest player to ever play keyboard tennis.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Or now it seems caution wet floor tennis.
- 32:56Speaker 2: I hope he's using that keyboard to control F, his
- 33:00Speaker 2: passion for the actual sports.
- 33:03Speaker 1: What is he going to do?
- 33:04Speaker 2: The thing is, though, you're competing with YouTube creators who
- 33:07Speaker 2: are lighting themselves on fire and throwing themselves on buildings.
- 33:10Speaker 2: And then this is like, whoa, we're playing tennis with
- 33:14Speaker 2: frying pans. You know what I mean? Yeah.
- 33:16Speaker 1: No, but I think, yeah. Yeah. Well, fry pan would
- 33:19Speaker 1: have been better, I reckon, than the keyboard.
- 33:21Speaker 2: They'd probably get to it, I'm sure. Yeah.
- 33:23Speaker 1: But it does, it's like, Kirill's to me is an
- 33:25Speaker 1: interesting guy. He's got some interesting ideas, very charismatic. I
- 33:28Speaker 1: think he sat down with someone and they're like, get
- 33:30Speaker 1: in the YouTube space. What are we going to do?
- 33:31Speaker 1: And they're like, you're a tennis guy. What about we
- 33:34Speaker 1: take the brackets? Like, I think it's all, I think
- 33:35Speaker 1: this is a machine that's come up with the idea.
- 33:38Speaker 2: I think so.
- 33:38Speaker 1: And I think he'll get to lighting himself on fire. Okay.
- 33:41Speaker 1: If he wants to be a proper YouTuber.
- 33:42Speaker 2: So it'll progress to that.
- 33:44Speaker 1: I think he'll be, I think he could do really well,
- 33:46Speaker 1: but I think he needs to kind of get out of.
- 33:49Speaker 1: I think he needs to cover himself in petrol and
- 33:51Speaker 1: light himself on fire.
- 33:52Speaker 2: It'll get to that. These creators just have to keep
- 33:54Speaker 2: one-upping themselves, right?
- 33:56Speaker 1: It's because the algorithm never stops.
- 33:57Speaker 2: No, we're all slaves to it.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why we thought the podcast was done, but no, no, no.
- 34:02Speaker 2: No, we're back.
- 34:03Speaker 1: They said get back in. Okay, I love that. Now, finally,
- 34:06Speaker 1: and this is exciting, this is kind of relevant a
- 34:08Speaker 1: little bit for us, I would say the Australian Open,
- 34:10Speaker 1: which is a great organisation, and I love the way
- 34:13Speaker 1: they support podcasts. They have released the 2027... Ball Boys
- 34:19Speaker 1: new kit. This is straight from Hugo Boss. What do
- 34:23Speaker 1: you make? This is pretty cool stuff.
- 34:25Speaker 2: So we've got the umpire uniforms as well. Khaki they're
- 34:29Speaker 2: going with.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Would you say a beige khaki?
- 34:31Speaker 2: Yes, a beige khaki.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Oh, this is some, I mean the video, this is
- 34:34Speaker 1: good stuff. I know.
- 34:35Speaker 2: This is slick. Okay. All right. Some more sportier options
- 34:39Speaker 2: for the casual tennis fan.
- 34:41Speaker 1: This is some good stuff.
- 34:43Speaker 2: I can't wait for this gear.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Well, I mean, that was the thing last year. We
- 34:46Speaker 1: got to go in to the AO store and they're like,
- 34:49Speaker 1: just take whatever you want. But I was a bit reserved.
- 34:51Speaker 1: So I was like, surely they don't mean whatever. And
- 34:53Speaker 1: then they were like, you could have taken so much stuff.
- 34:55Speaker 1: And it's one of my big regrets.
- 34:57Speaker 2: I couldn't even see Lizzie behind a mountain of clothes.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Yeah. Lizzie has the energy. Like we're kind of like
- 35:02Speaker 1: new to that world of getting, like we've gotten free
- 35:04Speaker 1: clothes for stuff before, but you don't, You kind of
- 35:07Speaker 1: don't take the piss, but Lizzie is used to being like, no,
- 35:09Speaker 1: I'll take it all. And she did, and I wish
- 35:11Speaker 1: I had more of that in me. But this is great.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I want to get some of this gear.
- 35:14Speaker 2: I'm excited about this Hugo Boss. Like, please keep the
- 35:17Speaker 2: podcast going until this is in the AO store and
- 35:20Speaker 2: we can pilfer it.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Please, please do. Please, we need to do. I'll do
- 35:24Speaker 1: the podcast from the AO store if you want. I'll
- 35:27Speaker 1: plug it every week. I'll do whatever you need.
- 35:29Speaker 2: If we're in the Hugo Boss gear, we'll be like,
- 35:30Speaker 2: this is so good. comfortable, man. I've never felt more alive.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Maybe the pod and just think how much better the
- 35:37Speaker 1: podcast will be if we actually felt comfortable in our
- 35:39Speaker 1: own skin for once.
- 35:40Speaker 2: True.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Do you think about that? Often we're here trying to
- 35:43Speaker 1: pretend like we're other people trying to be funny, like
- 35:46Speaker 1: dancing like monkeys for people's entertainment just would be nice
- 35:50Speaker 1: to be real and genuine. And the only way I
- 35:52Speaker 1: think we could do that is in Australian Open Hugo
- 35:54Speaker 1: Boss gear. Also, and I'm pretty sure we have the
- 35:56Speaker 1: authority to do this, if you're listening to this pod,
- 35:58Speaker 1: there's going to be a great chance for you to
- 35:59Speaker 1: get some of this gear. We'll run some competitions. We're
- 36:02Speaker 1: going to send Lizzie in there. She's going to get
- 36:04Speaker 1: a lot of it, and we're going to give away
- 36:06Speaker 1: a bunch of it.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Of Lizzie's secondhand.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Lizzie's secondhand stuff. No, she's not going to wear it.
- 36:10Speaker 1: She's going to steal extra, and then we'll give that away.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Okay. I mean, I think we do.
- 36:17Speaker 1: I can get someone to wear it and give it
- 36:19Speaker 1: away for that up to the value, but I don't
- 36:20Speaker 1: think it will.
- 36:21Speaker 2: No, people don't want York.
- 36:22Speaker 1: People don't want my stuff. No, no, no. They definitely
- 36:24Speaker 1: don't want York to be covered in cash.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Yes. True. But the Hugo Boss gear will be fresh.
- 36:31Speaker 2: It will be so fresh. Yes. And it looks good.
- 36:33Speaker 2: I'd like it. They've gone with a more of a
- 36:35Speaker 2: beige kind of solid color. And it's very little Steve Irwin-y.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Well, that's a nice, kind of a nice reference.
- 36:45Speaker 2: In a good way.
- 36:45Speaker 1: No, I think that's a really nice kind of touch
- 36:47Speaker 1: as well by them.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Well, that was Grand Sam.
- 36:52Speaker 1: What a segment.
- 36:54Speaker 2: That was our triumphant return episode. Absolutely.
- 36:59Speaker 1: And thanks for having me back, Mark. I'd just like
- 37:01Speaker 1: to take this opportunity to say that is the end
- 37:03Speaker 1: of the podcast for the time being. We're going to
- 37:07Speaker 1: be wrapping up.
- 37:08Speaker 2: No.
- 37:08Speaker 1: And thanks so much for your support over the journey.
- 37:10Speaker 1: We'll hopefully be back for the Australian Open.
- 37:12Speaker 2: We will be back next week.
- 37:16Speaker 1: I think we should end the podcast every week.
- 37:18Speaker 2: By saying we're done?
- 37:19Speaker 1: We're done. That's the final episode.
- 37:20Speaker 2: For a week.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Yeah, for one week. It's a finale for a week.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Yeah, we get all emotional and like, sorry, guys. It's
- 37:26Speaker 2: been an amazing ride.
- 37:27Speaker 1: It's been incredible.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Thank you for joining us. But we'll be back next
- 37:30Speaker 2: week on Thursday.
- 37:31Speaker 1: On Thursday. We do one episode seasons. We're up to
- 37:34Speaker 1: season 60 right now.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Yes, this is. We're going longer than The Simpsons. Thank
- 37:39Speaker 2: you guys so much. And we'll be back next week
- 37:41Speaker 2: to talk all things tennis. Okay, bye. Kill me.
