- 0:00SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: I want to welcome you out to the No Time to Waste Podcast Studio, and I'm your guide, Marcus Murray.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: And today we're talking about words, words and the power that they possess.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: We're talking today about every word that we've ever spoken, even the idle words, they're all doing something.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: They're either building our future or they're actually sabotaging them, but none of them lie dormant.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: So what if you could find out the techniques and the strategies and the understanding that the most successful people on the planet have gathered about words?
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: That's what you'll know by the end of this episode.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: So, first, we've all heard the saying tell them what's on your mind, get it off of your chest, let it out, don't hold it in.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: If you hold it in, you'll burst.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: We've heard people telling us to speak truth to power, scream, just let them have it.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: But in reality, what does that actually accomplish?
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: What actually happens when we carelessly let words out of our mouths, sometimes it's actually the worst of things that happen.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Actually, sometimes spoken words, words that are used carelessly, actually spend more time in the atmosphere destroying our future than they actually do benefiting us or building our future.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: There's a concept that a lot of people are using right now, and it's a concept built on deconstructionism.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Deconstructionism is a concept of actually tearing down things that you don't like just because you don't like them.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: But in reality, in a civil society, the use of language is key to building forward into the future.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Where the abusive use of words is actually not simply corrosive to our future, but it's actually toxic to our destiny.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: So words actually have the power that most people don't even realize to not only express our deepest thoughts, our deepest emotions, but the same exact words have the ability to trigger the worst and most egregious responses.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Words have the power to create, yet they have the power to destroy.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Words are the building blocks of our future, but they're also the Magatov cocktails or the hand grenades that can be thrown into our future.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: The Bible actually acknowledges words when it says to us to guard our tongues.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: And it actually tells us when when looking at different prayers that we could use, it says, Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: That doesn't just say words are important.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: It says that words not only are important, but they must be acceptable.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: That means if words can be considered acceptable, there are also words that are unacceptable.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: So just because we think it doesn't mean we should say it.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Jesus actually taught us the seriousness of words when he spoke about things that we eat.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: And he said it's not what goes into the man that defiles him.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: It's actually what comes out of the man that defiles him.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: And that's such an archaic word, defiles.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Who even uses that word?
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Nobody even uses that word.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: What does it actually mean?
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: To make unclean, impure, corrupt it, either physically, morally, or spiritually, to make something dirty or to contaminate it.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: For example, when you take clean water, for example, and it's contaminated with sewage, it's now been defiled and it's not usable.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: You can't do anything with it because it's corrupted.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Jesus also told us about words when he compared it to thoughts.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: And he said, Whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are pure, if there be any virtue or any praise, think on these things, things that you have both heard and seen in me.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: These types of things do.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: But what most people don't get in that statement is the connection between our thoughts and words.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Interestingly enough, every thought that we have is actually embedded or or or it sits on the bed of a word, as the words also sit on the bed of a thought.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: In order to express a thought, it requires words.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: So if you start thinking about it, words are absolutely powerful.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: We think in in in in words.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Think about it for a moment.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: The foundation of learning is words.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: The foundation of marriage is actually a covenant.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Covenants are made of words.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Public approval, awards, recognition all occur through the utilization of words.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Words are the building blocks of knowledge, of learning, of creativity, of human innovation.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: They're the foundation of peace treaties and agreements and negotiated situations require words.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: The aggregation of words is the or allows for the formulation of cues, bright ideas, formulas, treatments.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Actually, the foundation of religion requires words.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Words are the foundation of personal development and everything that we could ever possibly achieve.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: It can only be achieved through the effective use of words.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: And if we think about words and we look at all of the creations on the planet, humans are the only ones that have the full capacity to utilize words in a strategic and methodical method.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: No other living creature can utilize words to convey, to build.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: It really sets us apart from everything else on Earth.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: And then there's something called power.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Today's culture tells us to just blurt, just whatever you're thinking, just blurt it out.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: But I would challenge you with this one thought.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Words give us the ability to galvanize people, create movements.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: And what's interesting is when we are able to bring people together to accomplish a goal, a purpose through the effective use of words, amazing success can be experienced.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: So words don't just express emotion.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Words create outcomes.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: So this week, we want to do something very different.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: We want to try and change what culture is telling us to do.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Today, this week, we want to consciously decide not to say something twice.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: A conscious decision to not say something.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: So when you would respond and say something this week, we're not gonna say it.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: And we're going to do that twice.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Number two, we're going to not reply to any hot text messages.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: You know those text messages that come and you look at it and you're like, okay, wait a minute.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: And all of a sudden the thumbs start going so fast.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: No, we're not gonna reply.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: We're gonna, this is gonna be our strategy.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: We're gonna take two minutes, and then we're gonna reread the text message.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: We'll wait two more minutes with the phone face down, and then we'll think about it for a moment.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: What exactly am I feeling right now and why?
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Number two, we'll think.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: What exactly do I want to accomplish with the response that I'm about to send?
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: And the third thing we're gonna do is start our reply this way, and I had to write this down so that I would make sure I got every point.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: I can tell this matters to you.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: We're texting.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: I can tell this matters to you, comma.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: And I want to respond thoughtfully.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Please allow me a little more time so I don't say something that misses the mark.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Think about it.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: We're going to take two minutes, look at the text, take two more minutes with the phone laying face down, and then we're going to think, what exactly do I want to accomplish with this response?
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: What is the outcome that I want to achieve?
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: What exactly am I feeling?
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: What did that text make me feel?
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: We're not going to type that, but then we're going to say, I can tell this matters to you, and I want to respond thoughtfully.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Please allow me a little more time so that I don't say something that misses the mark.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Very non-threatening.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: See, here's the deal: uncontrolled words don't just damage conversations.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Uncontrolled words actually rewrite the future.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: Guarding your tongue is not simply silence.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Guarding your tongue is power.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Now, as usual, what I like to do is read a letter to my son.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: The greatest power you can develop is the power to control the words that come out of your mouth.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: You can build a life with them, or you can burn one down.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: Son, I've watched great men fall because they were careless with their words.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: I've watched opportunities die mid-sentence.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: I've watched respect evaporate in a single moment of unfiltered honesty that should have remained unspoken.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Not every truth needs a microphone, and not every thought deserves the light of day.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Understand this, son.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Powerful men are not loud men.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: They're measured, they're deliberate, they choose their words the way a surgeon chooses his instruments, carefully, purposefully, and never in a rush.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: The tongue is small, but it commands great outcomes.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: It can turn allies into enemies.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: It turns moments into memories, sometimes good, sometimes bad.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: It can bless or curse the very future you're praying for.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: Silence rarely betrays a man, but oftentimes words do.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: Control your tongue, son, not because you don't have something to say, but because you understand the weight of what you carry.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Let your words be few, but when they land, let them land with purpose.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Let people learn that when you speak, it matters.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Your character will be judged not by how quickly you respond, but how wisely you choose your words.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: And remember this, a fool can speak.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Very few men can govern their tongue, and even fewer can master it.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: I'm already proud of you.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: But the man you're becoming will be revealed by the words you choose to release and the ones you choose to withhold.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Love, Dad.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: So I believe we've reached a wonderful, wonderful place, and we've had an opportunity to actually look at the power of words.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: And this week, the most important thing that we're going to do is make the decision to control the words of our mouths.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: With that being said, let's seize the day.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: I'll see you on the next episode.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: Take care.
