- 0:14Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:17Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Barth.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Bizarre and Lazar.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Hello, everybody nailed it joined us Always buy ours Barak.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Here is Evan Lazar and Alex bars.
- 0:31Speaker 2: The island is expanding for Afton Chisholm.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Okay, why is it an island for Afton Chism. That
- 0:36Speaker 1: is a quarterback thing. That is a quarterback thing.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Afton Chisholm.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Regardless you want to get mad, I'm calling it an island.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I'm not saying it's not deserved. I just think it's
- 0:45Speaker 1: over analogy.
- 0:46Speaker 3: The island is expanding.
- 0:48Speaker 1: But it's not an island. He's not a It doesn't
- 0:50Speaker 1: make any sense.
- 0:51Speaker 2: People are building houses, they're buying land, and then they're
- 0:55Speaker 2: building houses. So if you want some land on Afton
- 0:57Speaker 2: chishom Island, als, you better start to purchase right now
- 1:00Speaker 2: because it's getting a little crowded over there.
- 1:05Speaker 3: That was before the eton Chism moment even happened.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I stand by my need. A better term for that
- 1:13Speaker 1: now is making the football.
- 1:16Speaker 3: You put it. You have an island, and there's real
- 1:19Speaker 3: estate available on the island like in the old days,
- 1:23Speaker 3: like before Martha's vineyard in Nantucket got all populated. There
- 1:26Speaker 3: was open grass and open dirt for people to build
- 1:29Speaker 3: houses on efton Chishm Island. Now bumping. This is we
- 1:34Speaker 3: got multiple.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Train you could have first class tickets on the train.
- 1:38Speaker 1: About that. Nowfton Chisham City you can still do real
- 1:40Speaker 1: estate and city not island. It doesn't make sense.
- 1:45Speaker 3: It makes more sense. And that was the last Thursday
- 1:48Speaker 3: show Alex before the preseason game even happened. That was
- 1:52Speaker 3: just based off of practice. So now this efton Chishm Island.
- 1:56Speaker 3: This the island is bumping. Now we got we got restaurants,
- 1:59Speaker 3: we got bars, we got we got beaches where we're
- 2:04Speaker 3: full on. You know, Martha's Vandernard Nantucket. Eft in Chishm Island.
- 2:08Speaker 3: That that's our chappie, you know is in there.
- 2:10Speaker 1: The Patriots play the Raiders week one. Their best receivers
- 2:13Speaker 1: Jacoby Myers, right, yes, could me and Jacoby Myers both
- 2:17Speaker 1: be on Christian Gonzales Island then in week one technically
- 2:22Speaker 1: because if Christian Zalaz shuts him down, we're gonna talk
- 2:25Speaker 1: about him being on Gonzales Island saying this is what Also,
- 2:27Speaker 1: I am a fan of Christian Zales, So I like,
- 2:30Speaker 1: do you understand that's you.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Understand why it doesn't work. I understand, but it's different.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Like, Okay, in this scenario, it's a different past.
- 2:36Speaker 3: It's a different context of using this term.
- 2:39Speaker 1: When there's a stut. When there's like a UDFA corner,
- 2:41Speaker 1: late round traffic corner and a year or two in
- 2:43Speaker 1: camp that absolutely pops, you're gonna need a new term.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So I'm just saying start now. So it's all standard.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Anyways, we're gonna get to et Chisholm, not that we
- 2:54Speaker 3: didn't just talk about him just now, but we're gonna
- 2:57Speaker 3: do three up, three down from the preseason game against
- 3:00Speaker 3: the Vikings, a little bit of a regular season mode,
- 3:03Speaker 3: if you will. In terms of the show format today,
- 3:06Speaker 3: we're gonna go back and we're going to recap the
- 3:08Speaker 3: week that was, talk a little bit of Drake May
- 3:10Speaker 3: three Up, three down, and then we're also going to
- 3:13Speaker 3: preview the Giants game, but mostly talk within the prism
- 3:18Speaker 3: of the Giants game, of the roster cut down days
- 3:21Speaker 3: now six days away or less than a week away
- 3:24Speaker 3: from roster cuts. So bubble players, Alex, you published something
- 3:28Speaker 3: about bubble players the other day, we're gonna talk about that,
- 3:31Speaker 3: and I know, I know that we're going to talk
- 3:34Speaker 3: a lot about the trade market because it's the NFL
- 3:39Speaker 3: hot stove, if you will, is maybe a little hotter
- 3:42Speaker 3: this year, at this time of year than I remember
- 3:45Speaker 3: it being in the past. Like there's some big names
- 3:48Speaker 3: that are floating around there, like Trey Hendrickson and Terry
- 3:50Speaker 3: McLaurin and Micah Parsons, but even some little names, you know,
- 3:54Speaker 3: not little is the wrong word, smaller names like we
- 3:57Speaker 3: have locally here that are starting to make waves and
- 4:01Speaker 3: rumors and all that. So we're gonna get to all that,
- 4:03Speaker 3: but I want to open the show with a look
- 4:06Speaker 3: back at this past week and specifically discuss some of
- 4:09Speaker 3: the things with Drake May, because whether it's here, whether
- 4:14Speaker 3: it's your station, whether it's just the ether narrative out
- 4:18Speaker 3: there right now, I do think we're we're getting a
- 4:22Speaker 3: little ahead of ourselves with some of the commentary on
- 4:25Speaker 3: Drake May in terms of where he's at right now.
- 4:27Speaker 3: And this isn't to make excuses, this isn't to you know,
- 4:31Speaker 3: apologize for him or anything like that. We're gonna we're
- 4:35Speaker 3: gonna talk critically, We're gonna evaluate his performance critically here
- 4:40Speaker 3: in a minute. But I just want to put some
- 4:42Speaker 3: things about where Drake May is in perspective for everybody,
- 4:46Speaker 3: because I feel like we're getting a little bit ahead
- 4:51Speaker 3: of ourselves with some of these things. This is a
- 4:53Speaker 3: twenty two year old kid that's made twelve NFL starts,
- 4:57Speaker 3: that's going into his second year. Just in terms of
- 5:00Speaker 3: of NFL years, I just want to rattle off a
- 5:04Speaker 3: few things. But most of these guys that I'm going
- 5:07Speaker 3: to bring up were still in college at this point
- 5:10Speaker 3: right when Drake May is in terms of years on
- 5:13Speaker 3: this planet, right, But in terms of NFL years, you
- 5:17Speaker 3: have Patrick Mahomes started one game his rookie season. It
- 5:22Speaker 3: was a Week seventeen game where they benched out or
- 5:24Speaker 3: they rested Alex Smith, I should say not benched, rested
- 5:27Speaker 3: Alex Smith and gave Mahomes the game. Because they the
- 5:30Speaker 3: Chiefs that were already in the playoffs, they had nothing
- 5:32Speaker 3: to play for meaningless Week seventeen game. They gave the
- 5:34Speaker 3: kid the start. So Patrick Mahomes at this point in
- 5:37Speaker 3: his career had one NFL start under his belt. At
- 5:41Speaker 3: this point in his career, Josh Allen was coming off
- 5:43Speaker 3: a season where he completed fifty two percent of his
- 5:45Speaker 3: passes and threw more interceptions and touchdowns. At this point
- 5:50Speaker 3: in his career, Joe Burrow tore his ACL his rookie
- 5:53Speaker 3: season and had not a very good year in Cincinnati.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Tour's ACL was coming back off the ACL. Lamar Jackson
- 6:00Speaker 3: his rookie year, only started half the season in Baltimore,
- 6:03Speaker 3: won some games, made the playoffs, but there were a
- 6:06Speaker 3: lot of questions. We talked about it at the time,
- 6:09Speaker 3: a lot of questions about him as.
- 6:11Speaker 1: A passer, A far cry from the Lamar Jacks.
- 6:15Speaker 3: He was at that point was like a running quarterback
- 6:17Speaker 3: right and were so all I'm getting at it just
- 6:22Speaker 3: from a bigger picture since with Drake may Is, I
- 6:26Speaker 3: know we all want the answer, like we all want
- 6:28Speaker 3: to know if he's the guy or not. We all
- 6:30Speaker 3: want to know if he can lead them or not.
- 6:32Speaker 3: But let's just let's just take a pause and just
- 6:36Speaker 3: recognize that as a young kid, he's still developing. Let's
- 6:40Speaker 3: give him time. Let's give Josh McDaniel's time. Let's give
- 6:43Speaker 3: him like Rabel time to work with him, and let's
- 6:45Speaker 3: see where this thing goes. By the year end, of
- 6:47Speaker 3: the year if we still have doubts or we still
- 6:50Speaker 3: have concerns, and that's a different story. But right now,
- 6:53Speaker 3: they haven't played any games yet, and I'm hearing I
- 6:58Speaker 3: haven't heard anybody actually say it, but I hear people
- 7:01Speaker 3: wanting to say the B word, which is bust.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Been We are way way, way too early in this
- 7:09Speaker 3: process to be throwing things around like that. So that's
- 7:12Speaker 3: just my soapbox. I just do. I listen and I read,
- 7:16Speaker 3: and I'm not knocking anybody in particular. I just know
- 7:19Speaker 3: that this is all out there that like Drake May,
- 7:22Speaker 3: you know, is he clutch, is he a winning player?
- 7:26Speaker 3: Does he have it? Like all these different types of things,
- 7:29Speaker 3: which are fair questions in the bigger picture. But let's
- 7:32Speaker 3: see it like, let's let's give it a beat, let's
- 7:34Speaker 3: give it a pause, and let's let's get there first
- 7:36Speaker 3: before we start throwing things around. That That is my
- 7:40Speaker 3: defense of Drake May. And then I do want to
- 7:43Speaker 3: break down some of the things that are the goods
- 7:45Speaker 3: and the bad, Like I don't want I'm not shying
- 7:47Speaker 3: away from the bad stuff, but I just think we
- 7:49Speaker 3: have to keep it in perspective.
- 7:51Speaker 1: So I think this is where you see, you know,
- 7:55Speaker 1: we when we do the draft you bring out in
- 7:59Speaker 1: the nerd love this. We don't need to make this
- 8:01Speaker 1: analytics thing. But the nerds love the early breakout player. Right,
- 8:04Speaker 1: is the term you use the guy that has more
- 8:07Speaker 1: success at at nineteen twenty twenty one years old as
- 8:10Speaker 1: opposed to the guy that really doesn't start, you know,
- 8:13Speaker 1: becoming a star player in college till twenty one, twenty
- 8:15Speaker 1: two years old, I think, And that's why I don't
- 8:19Speaker 1: disagree on the nerds with that. I just don't think,
- 8:21Speaker 1: oh my god, I needed math to tell me the
- 8:23Speaker 1: players that are good when they're younger are also going
- 8:25Speaker 1: to be good when they're older. But I think that
- 8:29Speaker 1: the COVID era of college football may have proved a
- 8:33Speaker 1: temporary exception of that, because I think it can swing
- 8:37Speaker 1: further in the other direction, where when you have guys
- 8:40Speaker 1: who have had six seven years of development in college
- 8:45Speaker 1: before they get to the NFL, that is going to
- 8:47Speaker 1: show up immediately, and that's guys like Jane Daniels, that's
- 8:49Speaker 1: guys like Michael Pennix, right, and then you have the
- 8:52Speaker 1: flip side like Anthony Richardson. Bonnicks is a Componex and
- 8:55Speaker 1: more starts. To anybody, it should have brought up the
- 8:57Speaker 1: old man bon Nicks, and then on the flip side
- 8:59Speaker 1: of Anthony richards In, who there were also guys who
- 9:02Speaker 1: were coming out too young, like I think you can
- 9:04Speaker 1: come out. You also had this element of being a
- 9:07Speaker 1: copycat league where Josh Allen breaks out to Colt see
- 9:12Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson, who threw I think less than four hundred
- 9:14Speaker 1: passes his entire college career. He was just young. He
- 9:17Speaker 1: didn't break out young, he was just young. I think
- 9:19Speaker 1: Drake makes somewhere in the middle of that. My big
- 9:22Speaker 1: thing with Drake May, when you talk about a bust,
- 9:26Speaker 1: it's a player whose talent was misidentified. I don't think
- 9:29Speaker 1: Drake May's talent was misidentified. The talent is there, you
- 9:33Speaker 1: see it in flashes. I think Drake May is at
- 9:35Speaker 1: the crossroads where many young players across positions, frankly, across
- 9:38Speaker 1: sports kind of hit after their first year, not every
- 9:43Speaker 1: and this is where it goes. This is where I
- 9:45Speaker 1: bring back the age, like the older players have already
- 9:47Speaker 1: worked through a lot of In the NFL is obviously different,
- 9:50Speaker 1: jayde and Daniels had a lot of ups and downs
- 9:52Speaker 1: in his college career and he kind of learned how
- 9:54Speaker 1: to work through that over multiple years. Michael Pennix had
- 9:58Speaker 1: maybe more ups and downs than anybody, and he learned
- 10:01Speaker 1: how to work through it. Drake May was a red shirt,
- 10:05Speaker 1: had a great first year at UNC, lost a lot
- 10:07Speaker 1: of talent and was not quite as good but still
- 10:11Speaker 1: good as second year. And that's basically coaching staff turnover
- 10:14Speaker 1: to right. So I think what Drake May is working through,
- 10:16Speaker 1: which again is not uncommon. The last thing that comes
- 10:21Speaker 1: for young players, especially at the quarterback position, is consistency.
- 10:26Speaker 1: There's a lot of young players and you see flashes
- 10:29Speaker 1: of what they can do, but if it only ever
- 10:32Speaker 1: stays flashes, it's irrelevant because if you're a high pick,
- 10:36Speaker 1: you're expected to be more than that. It's about consistency.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Can you do the good things on a consistent basis?
- 10:42Speaker 1: Can you cut out the bad things on a consistent basis?
- 10:45Speaker 1: So where I'm at with Drake May right now is
- 10:48Speaker 1: the talent is there? I feel comfortable saying talent that
- 10:51Speaker 1: we saw when he was in the draft process last year.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Like check, we identified that correctly on the outside. Obviously,
- 10:58Speaker 1: more importantly, the Patriots identified that correct play on the inside.
- 11:01Speaker 1: But can he make use of that talent at a
- 11:04Speaker 1: consistent level as a pro. That's to me what ultimately
- 11:08Speaker 1: year two's about. There's ways that manifests itself right, cutting
- 11:11Speaker 1: down on the turnovers, taking better care of himself when
- 11:14Speaker 1: he runs the football, things like that. But what that
- 11:17Speaker 1: all falls under the umbrella of this is a very
- 11:20Speaker 1: talented individual. Can he display that talent on a regular basis.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a good point in terms of the timeline.
- 11:27Speaker 3: And one other name I wanted to bring up, not
- 11:30Speaker 3: to pick on him, but Mac Jones after his rookie season.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Everybody was pretty high on him. Yeah, after his rookie year.
- 11:37Speaker 3: And to your point about the early breakout and the
- 11:40Speaker 3: talent and that whole side of it, that ended up
- 11:44Speaker 3: being mac Jones plateauing like that was the peak of
- 11:47Speaker 3: mac Jones in his NFL career, whereas with Drake May
- 11:52Speaker 3: he might not have had the immediate success that mac
- 11:55Speaker 3: Jones had, but you would like to think that over
- 11:58Speaker 3: the course of the next two to three years he
- 12:00Speaker 3: is going to rise to a level that was much
- 12:02Speaker 3: higher than what mac Jones was. I brought up all
- 12:06Speaker 3: these other quarterbacks not to say that he's gonna go
- 12:09Speaker 3: win multiple MVPs like Lamar, or he's gonna win multiple
- 12:12Speaker 3: Super Bowls like Mahomes. I just want to keep in
- 12:15Speaker 3: perspective that a lot happens in the first two or
- 12:20Speaker 3: to three four years of a quarterback's career, and there's,
- 12:24Speaker 3: like you said, like there's a lot of roller coaster
- 12:27Speaker 3: to start for most guys, whether it's sitting like Mahomes,
- 12:31Speaker 3: or it's uneven play like Josh Allen, Like, there's a
- 12:35Speaker 3: lot of that that goes on. And right now we
- 12:37Speaker 3: are in the middle of it with Drake May. But
- 12:40Speaker 3: we're not at the end where we're starting to make
- 12:42Speaker 3: proclamations about Drake May. We're on the ride. We are
- 12:46Speaker 3: we are on the ride, like the roller coaster has started,
- 12:49Speaker 3: but we are on the middle of the ride and
- 12:51Speaker 3: we're right at the drop, but we're not at We're
- 12:53Speaker 3: not on the other side yet, So let's just let
- 12:56Speaker 3: him develop. I have a lot of faith in McDaniel, especially,
- 13:00Speaker 3: but Rabel two. From the intangible stuff that we've seen
- 13:03Speaker 3: Rabel pushing Drake with. I have a lot of faith
- 13:06Speaker 3: in all that, in the infrastructure that they have around him,
- 13:10Speaker 3: more so than I did, especially last year, so I'm
- 13:14Speaker 3: optimistic now. I do want to talk about him in
- 13:18Speaker 3: an objective way too, and not just defend the wall
- 13:20Speaker 3: on Drake May because the preseason tape in my mind,
- 13:25Speaker 3: hasn't been great. It just hasn't been very good. Now,
- 13:30Speaker 3: why is that? I think there's two different conversations to
- 13:33Speaker 3: have there. You know, I think everybody can watch his
- 13:36Speaker 3: film or watch the game live against Minnesota and see
- 13:39Speaker 3: the high throws that he starts the game out with,
- 13:42Speaker 3: and that's very tangible, that's very apparent. But I'm less
- 13:47Speaker 3: concerned about those throws as I am some of the
- 13:52Speaker 3: reads and some of the decisions that he's making within
- 13:56Speaker 3: these games. That is more concerning to me, because I
- 14:00Speaker 3: think he's gonna hit open receivers more times than not.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Like I think he's gonna make that throat to pop
- 14:04Speaker 3: Douglas eighty five ninety percent of the time. It just
- 14:08Speaker 3: was one of those times where the ball got away
- 14:09Speaker 3: from him a little bit. Maybe he wasn't one hundred
- 14:12Speaker 3: percent sure if he was gonna sit or if he
- 14:14Speaker 3: was gonna keep running. I think there was that element too.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Mike Rabel was asked about Drake May the other day,
- 14:20Speaker 3: and he did bring up being on the same page
- 14:22Speaker 3: as receivers and miscommunications and things like that. So I
- 14:26Speaker 3: do wonder if that is going on a little bit
- 14:28Speaker 3: as everybody starts to pick up this Josh McDaniels offense,
- 14:32Speaker 3: not just him, but the receivers also, So I think
- 14:35Speaker 3: there's maybe an element to that. The one thing that
- 14:37Speaker 3: I've seen on his film for the first both weeks
- 14:43Speaker 3: is that he's having some issues with processing post snap movement.
- 14:51Speaker 3: So like when the defense shows you something pre snap,
- 14:55Speaker 3: and then NFL defense especially, they're gonna disguise and then
- 14:58Speaker 3: they're gonna rotate into some different post snap, and how
- 15:01Speaker 3: do you react to that pre snap post snap movement.
- 15:04Speaker 3: We talked a little bit about the strip sack last week,
- 15:07Speaker 3: and I think it was the same sort of thing
- 15:08Speaker 3: they showed him single high and then then when they
- 15:12Speaker 3: fell out of coverage there when the ball was snapped,
- 15:15Speaker 3: it ended up being a too high look, right, And
- 15:18Speaker 3: a lot of the time in Josh McDaniel's offense, you
- 15:21Speaker 3: have coverage beaters to one side and coverage beater to
- 15:25Speaker 3: the other side. So it's like when you drop back,
- 15:28Speaker 3: if you have let's say it's you know two by
- 15:30Speaker 3: two right, you have two receivers and one on either
- 15:33Speaker 3: side of you. You might have a two high beater
- 15:36Speaker 3: to your left and you have a single high beater
- 15:37Speaker 3: to your right, and based off the read that the
- 15:40Speaker 3: quarterback gets, that's the way he's going to open to
- 15:43Speaker 3: look to throw. So if you're expecting single high and
- 15:47Speaker 3: then you open to the single high side and then
- 15:49Speaker 3: it's actually too high, well now you're holding the football
- 15:52Speaker 3: because you're you're indecisive, or you're not reading the right
- 15:55Speaker 3: side of the field, or whatever the case may be.
- 15:58Speaker 3: So in the Minnesota game, I thought there were a
- 16:00Speaker 3: couple of instances where Minnesota would show him one coverage
- 16:04Speaker 3: pre snap, then they would rotate into something or fall
- 16:08Speaker 3: into something different post snap, and it just caused Drake
- 16:11Speaker 3: May to have some hesitancy, like he just wasn't one
- 16:15Speaker 3: hundred percent sure at what he was looking at. To me,
- 16:18Speaker 3: that's at least what it looked like. I'll give you
- 16:20Speaker 3: an example the throw to maccollins that he actually did
- 16:24Speaker 3: hit out of structure on the third down play. I
- 16:27Speaker 3: know it's going around Orlovsky tweeted about it. There's a
- 16:30Speaker 3: big play to be had in the pocket. There he
- 16:32Speaker 3: has two receivers Pop Douglas and Kyle Williams winning down
- 16:36Speaker 3: the field for potential touchdowns if he just stays in
- 16:38Speaker 3: the pocket and makes a throw from the pocket. So
- 16:42Speaker 3: on that play, they start Pop Douglas in the slot,
- 16:46Speaker 3: and Pop Douglas motions from the left side of the
- 16:49Speaker 3: formation to the right side of the formation. When he
- 16:52Speaker 3: motions the nickel, the slot defender follows him man coverage right.
- 16:57Speaker 3: So Drake May is saying, oh, this is single high
- 17:00Speaker 3: one safety up top. The indicator is telling me it's
- 17:03Speaker 3: man to man. I have man to man coverage. So
- 17:06Speaker 3: he starts looking at Pop Douglas thinking I'm gonna go
- 17:09Speaker 3: to my man beater. I'm gonna go to Pop, who
- 17:12Speaker 3: usually wins in those situations. On third down, when the
- 17:15Speaker 3: ball was snapped, the nickel actually falls into the half
- 17:18Speaker 3: field and they end up playing cover two out of
- 17:21Speaker 3: a single high Look now that's the league like that.
- 17:24Speaker 3: That's how a lot of NFL defenses are doing it
- 17:26Speaker 3: now Sundays. But when they spun it and the nickel
- 17:30Speaker 3: dropped out and he played cover two, Drake May held
- 17:33Speaker 3: the ball because he didn't I don't think he was
- 17:36Speaker 3: one hundred percent decisive or sure of what exactly it
- 17:40Speaker 3: was that he was looking at. So those types of things,
- 17:43Speaker 3: to me are a tiny bit more concerning than like, oh,
- 17:48Speaker 3: he missed this throw, because I expect him to correct
- 17:53Speaker 3: the throw that he missed, Like, I don't think that's
- 17:56Speaker 3: going to be a consistent thing where he's spraying the
- 17:58Speaker 3: ball over Douglas's head when he's wide open. When teams
- 18:02Speaker 3: see that on film, that maybe he has some problems
- 18:06Speaker 3: with post snap rotation, they're just going to keep testing
- 18:09Speaker 3: him on post snap rotation until he figures it out.
- 18:11Speaker 3: That to me is something that could be more indicative
- 18:14Speaker 3: of a bigger picture type thing. So that's a long
- 18:18Speaker 3: winded way of sort of breaking down what I saw
- 18:20Speaker 3: on the film. But is there anything else you wanted
- 18:23Speaker 3: to add about Drake before we move on, Because overall,
- 18:26Speaker 3: like I said, like I don't this is not alarm
- 18:28Speaker 3: its like I said earlier, it's early, Like this is
- 18:31Speaker 3: we're very early on in this process with Drake May
- 18:35Speaker 3: and we're especially very early on with Drake May in
- 18:39Speaker 3: an offense and with the coaching staff that can rise
- 18:43Speaker 3: to the level, right like Mike Rabel and Josh McDaniels
- 18:46Speaker 3: are have the experience and the wherewithal to coach a
- 18:49Speaker 3: player like Drake May and get the best out of him.
- 18:51Speaker 3: So I want to give him grace. But if we
- 18:54Speaker 3: have to look at the film objectively, those are just
- 18:56Speaker 3: a couple of things that I saw.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the sprays are the sprays goes back
- 19:00Speaker 1: to my consistency point. They were an issue last year.
- 19:03Speaker 1: They've been less of an issue over all this summer.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Maybe more in the last week or so than they
- 19:07Speaker 1: were previously, but overall they've been less That's one of
- 19:10Speaker 1: the big consistency points for me. Can Drake make cut
- 19:13Speaker 1: down on the sprace Because he can do that, There's
- 19:16Speaker 1: gonna be opportunities to be had. We've seen it with
- 19:18Speaker 1: this offense. I think the wide receivers, you know, collectively,
- 19:22Speaker 1: have put together a nice summer. Kasehawan Boody has succeeded expectations,
- 19:26Speaker 1: MATC Hollins s exceeded expectations. Pop Douglas is that expectation.
- 19:30Speaker 1: But I mean he's been good, right, So I think
- 19:32Speaker 1: overall Javon Baker kind of will see if he makes
- 19:35Speaker 1: a team, but kind of come dow nowhere. I think
- 19:37Speaker 1: There's gonna be opportunities for him. He's just got to
- 19:39Speaker 1: be able to capitalize on those opportunities on a more
- 19:40Speaker 1: regular basis than he did last year.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Yeah. No, it's a great point because I don't want
- 19:45Speaker 3: to make too much out of the preseason game because
- 19:47Speaker 3: they're going up against the twos. Now, I sometimes like
- 19:51Speaker 3: when it comes to going up against starters and backups.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Let's be clear, the twos that Drake May were facing
- 19:56Speaker 3: on Saturday are going to make the vikings. They are
- 19:58Speaker 3: just not their starting frontline players. It's not Byron Murphy,
- 20:02Speaker 3: it's not Jonathan Grenard, like it's Dallas Turner. It's the
- 20:06Speaker 3: next guys, right, it's they're two's not their practice squad guys.
- 20:12Speaker 3: So it wasn't like he was going up against total nobodies.
- 20:14Speaker 3: But still, the fact that there were open receivers, I
- 20:18Speaker 3: don't want to make a big deal out of necessarily
- 20:20Speaker 3: for the preseason game, but in the joint practices I
- 20:22Speaker 3: felt the same way that there were open receivers. So
- 20:25Speaker 3: that's positive that one they might have upgraded enough at
- 20:30Speaker 3: the skill positions to be competitive. I don't know if
- 20:33Speaker 3: they've upgraded enough to be a contender, but they've upgraded
- 20:36Speaker 3: enough to be competitive. And then also it's you know,
- 20:38Speaker 3: a feather and Josh mcdaniels's cap. He's getting guys open.
- 20:42Speaker 3: You know, he's scheming things, he's dressing things up, he
- 20:46Speaker 3: is getting guys open, especially in those joint practices. So
- 20:49Speaker 3: those are all positives. We want to do three up,
- 20:51Speaker 3: three down from the preseason game as well. So let's
- 20:55Speaker 3: get into that. Do you want to start us off?
- 20:57Speaker 3: Because I have a feeling that ours is going to
- 20:58Speaker 3: be pretty similar this week. I feel like there aren't
- 21:01Speaker 3: too many to pick from, But who are your three up?
- 21:04Speaker 4: All right?
- 21:04Speaker 3: Start with your ups first?
- 21:06Speaker 1: I mean first up. Obviously, he's Aston Chisholm. He was
- 21:08Speaker 1: the best player in that game. He was unbelievable. I've
- 21:12Speaker 1: said this for a while with Chisholm, like my I
- 21:16Speaker 1: don't want to say hold up, but my thing with
- 21:18Speaker 1: Chisholm was usually the last thing you're looking for with
- 21:23Speaker 1: the UDFA who's making a roster pushes is he working
- 21:26Speaker 1: with the ones and just to kind of get that
- 21:28Speaker 1: that what's the confirmation and that he obviously hasn't done that.
- 21:34Speaker 1: He still hasn't done that, but at a certain point
- 21:36Speaker 1: it's like, all right, well, if he's just gonna be
- 21:38Speaker 1: against the twos, let's see what he looks like with
- 21:40Speaker 1: the twos. And it's not like it's close, right, he
- 21:43Speaker 1: looks like what you expect a starting caliber player to
- 21:46Speaker 1: look like against twos. Case in point, look at Anthony Jennings,
- 21:49Speaker 1: who he knows, a starting caliber player who's further down
- 21:51Speaker 1: on the depth chart for other reasons. And we'll get
- 21:53Speaker 1: to but I mean, he's he was dominating. And the
- 21:57Speaker 1: other thing is that the one thing we really hadn't
- 21:59Speaker 1: seen from Chisholm, because you can't really see it in
- 22:01Speaker 1: a practice setting, is the yards have to catch stuff,
- 22:04Speaker 1: the ability to make tacklers missed because obviously not tackling
- 22:06Speaker 1: in practices, and he was tremendous in that regard. Certainly
- 22:09Speaker 1: so looks assuming that he's healthy and can start the
- 22:14Speaker 1: season on the roster, which was Mike Reese noted he
- 22:17Speaker 1: was riding the exercise bike pretty vigorous le during practice
- 22:20Speaker 1: the other day, which is a good sign like that,
- 22:24Speaker 1: I'm sold he's a roster lock. I'm good.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm with you. I think he made the team.
- 22:28Speaker 3: On Saturday, and we played that clip to begin the show,
- 22:32Speaker 3: from last week's show. Yeah, and I not to This
- 22:34Speaker 3: is not patting myself on the back, but that was
- 22:36Speaker 3: before the game. That was us talking about ethon Chishom
- 22:40Speaker 3: just based off of the press.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I will say somebody in the YouTube comments and hearing
- 22:43Speaker 1: that pointed out the island thing with cornerbacks is because
- 22:47Speaker 1: it's a place of isolation from civilization, so to have
- 22:50Speaker 1: it also be a place of community for fans is
- 22:53Speaker 1: totally upside down.
- 22:54Speaker 3: No, it makes total sense. No, I'm not gonna argue
- 22:57Speaker 3: about this. He's Chisem Islands.
- 23:00Speaker 1: It doesn't make any sense. It doesn't make any sense.
- 23:02Speaker 3: But okay, it's not I said it incorrectly there. It's
- 23:06Speaker 3: not he's Chishm Island. It's that it's it's Chishm Island,
- 23:11Speaker 3: as if like we were in isolation with thinking that
- 23:14Speaker 3: Chisholm was good, but now it's it's hopping on the island.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Look right now, everybody wants real estate on the island.
- 23:21Speaker 1: We touched the Sun last year with the Manhattan Project
- 23:23Speaker 1: as a nickname. I don't think we're gonna get close
- 23:25Speaker 1: to that, but I'd like to follow it up with
- 23:27Speaker 1: something more than Chishm Isld. No, it's not Chisum Island,
- 23:30Speaker 1: but that's what it's gonna be.
- 23:31Speaker 3: I was living on an island, supporting efton Chisholm, and
- 23:34Speaker 3: now the island is expanding. Now everybody's on the island anymore.
- 23:38Speaker 3: It is still an island. It's just a hopin island.
- 23:41Speaker 1: It's a Ruba that you're missing. So analogy is so broken,
- 23:46Speaker 1: it's perfect, so broken.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Now now we we just we've civilized this island now
- 23:50Speaker 3: and people people are on the island and we're packing
- 23:53Speaker 3: it in. We're ready to go. So here's my take
- 23:56Speaker 3: on because I think you you summed up the game
- 23:59Speaker 3: stuff good. I think the one thing that should be
- 24:02Speaker 3: said about fon Chism is that I don't think it's
- 24:06Speaker 3: necessarily a total fluke that he's doing this. I think
- 24:11Speaker 3: their only question that evaluators had about and Chism in
- 24:16Speaker 3: the draft was the four seven forty straight line speed, Yes,
- 24:19Speaker 3: straight line speed, The quickness, the place drain, the ability
- 24:23Speaker 3: to catch the ball in traffic, even the ability to
- 24:26Speaker 3: break tackles is there on the Eastern Washington tape. And
- 24:30Speaker 3: he had all sorts of production in college. I know
- 24:33Speaker 3: he I don't think he broke Cooper Cup's records, but
- 24:35Speaker 3: he was like one of the only receivers I think
- 24:37Speaker 3: they have three hundred career catches besides Cooper Cup at
- 24:40Speaker 3: Eastern Washington. Yeah, so he was right there with a
- 24:45Speaker 3: lot of Cup stuff from Eastern Washington. And so this
- 24:50Speaker 3: wasn't a fluke of this guy is, you know, coming
- 24:55Speaker 3: completely out of nowhere to make a roster push. This
- 24:58Speaker 3: was a player that had draftable film in college, that
- 25:02Speaker 3: ran a bad forty and because the thresholds an archaic
- 25:06Speaker 3: thinking about the forty yard dash, people just wiped him
- 25:09Speaker 3: out from their draft boards. He just was undraftable for
- 25:12Speaker 3: a lot of teams. So once he came in here
- 25:15Speaker 3: and he started doing what he was doing, and I
- 25:17Speaker 3: want to reiterate that he's doing this in practice as
- 25:20Speaker 3: well as the games. Yeah, once he started doing this,
- 25:23Speaker 3: it wasn't like, oh, this is some fluky preseason Maurice
- 25:27Speaker 3: Harris type of situation. It's like, oh, wait a second,
- 25:30Speaker 3: like these kids, this kid's skills are translating to the
- 25:35Speaker 3: NFL game from what they were in college. So Fton
- 25:38Speaker 3: Chisholm had Day three tape at Eastern Washington and he
- 25:44Speaker 3: went undrafted because of the forty times. So in that respect,
- 25:47Speaker 3: I think that it makes it almost even more real
- 25:50Speaker 3: that maybe they might have found something here. It obviously
- 25:52Speaker 3: helps that he's playing in an offense and in a
- 25:56Speaker 3: role that's very hyper specific to his skill set. It's
- 25:59Speaker 3: a slot or Z receiver role in Josh mcdaniels's offense.
- 26:02Speaker 3: That is, you know, the Edelman Welker, Troy Brown, Deon
- 26:06Speaker 3: branch if you want to go back that far. It's
- 26:09Speaker 3: a highly productive role within this offense, which helps in
- 26:12Speaker 3: his skill set lends itself to that. But I think
- 26:15Speaker 3: the main thing to take away from this Efton Chisholm
- 26:17Speaker 3: thing is that if you just drafted him based off
- 26:22Speaker 3: of tape, then you probably were talking about a guy
- 26:25Speaker 3: that was like a mid to late day three pick.
- 26:27Speaker 3: But because the forty time he goes undrafted and the
- 26:30Speaker 3: hands up here as a UDFA with the Patriots, So
- 26:33Speaker 3: I think he made the team. The most important, press
- 26:36Speaker 3: or impressive thing I know to a lot of people
- 26:38Speaker 3: as the broken tackles, I don't necessarily look at it
- 26:42Speaker 3: the same way because he, like the guys that are
- 26:44Speaker 3: trying to tackle him aren't exactly frontline players. So I
- 26:47Speaker 3: don't know if he's going to break four tackles like
- 26:49Speaker 3: he did on his touchdown against the starting defense, but
- 26:54Speaker 3: the ability to separate quickly, find space and zone coverage,
- 27:00Speaker 3: attack the football in the air with strong hands, and
- 27:02Speaker 3: finished through contact at the catch point, like all of
- 27:06Speaker 3: those elements offton Chishm's game belong. He has good instincts
- 27:10Speaker 3: with the football in his hands, even though I don't
- 27:11Speaker 3: know if the broken tackles are going to be as
- 27:14Speaker 3: high of a volume. I think he has good instincts
- 27:16Speaker 3: for where the open field is, where the green grass is,
- 27:18Speaker 3: where people are coming from you're trying to tackle him,
- 27:21Speaker 3: which I think is an innate field thing that comes instinctively,
- 27:24Speaker 3: is not necessarily a natural trait. So all these things
- 27:27Speaker 3: I think are really positive about eton chism. You mentioned
- 27:30Speaker 3: that he hasn't done it against starters. I think that's
- 27:32Speaker 3: a fair A fair question is whether or not he
- 27:36Speaker 3: can do this against starting caliber players. But he proved
- 27:39Speaker 3: it he's on the team. I think he's done plenty
- 27:43Speaker 3: to make a roster, especially one that doesn't exactly have
- 27:46Speaker 3: a stacked receiver room. I think he's done more than enough.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Who's your second up?
- 27:49Speaker 1: Real quick cut? More things onon Chism.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:52Speaker 1: One. Can you name the only two Eastern Washington players
- 27:55Speaker 1: who have thrown a pass in the NFL? Kendrick Bourne, yep,
- 28:00Speaker 1: another the other one? You should you know him like
- 28:02Speaker 1: you did. He's a very notable player.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Oh, I got Kendrick Bourne.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Cooper Cup.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Oh so he's also he's thrown a trick pass as well.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Eastern Washington has not put out their twenty twenty
- 28:16Speaker 1: five media guy yet, so I don't know if he
- 28:18Speaker 1: broke cups records. Mother thing like like. Also, let's just
- 28:22Speaker 1: let's not get ahead of ourselves with Cooper Cup. At
- 28:23Speaker 1: the same time, Don't get me wrong, I'm very impressed
- 28:25Speaker 1: you Meanton Chism. Yeah, well, let's not get ahead of
- 28:28Speaker 1: ourselves with Cooper Cup.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Two.
- 28:29Speaker 1: I guess let's not call him Cooper Cup. That's what
- 28:31Speaker 1: you're saying, Let's not get ahead of ourselves with Fton Chism.
- 28:33Speaker 1: And what I mean by that is like, he's had
- 28:35Speaker 1: a great summer and he's earned a roster spot and
- 28:38Speaker 1: for a UDFA, that in itself is a significant accomplishment.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Let's not act like he's gonna come in and be
- 28:44Speaker 1: their wide receiver. One. No, let's not act like he's
- 28:46Speaker 1: kicking Pop Douglas off the field.
- 28:48Speaker 4: One.
- 28:48Speaker 1: They can both be on the field at the same time.
- 28:49Speaker 1: There's plenty of room for that in Josh McDaniel's offense. Two. Like, yes,
- 28:54Speaker 1: it was back to your point earlier about Drake May.
- 28:58Speaker 1: It wasn't descrub, but it also wasn't the starters. Like
- 29:02Speaker 1: we've seen a limited sample size. What we've seen is impressive,
- 29:05Speaker 1: and you only get a limited sample size to make
- 29:07Speaker 1: the team. You're gonna get more of a sample size
- 29:09Speaker 1: to as the season goes on, Like how many pass
- 29:13Speaker 1: seven catch this year? Right? I feel like there's some
- 29:15Speaker 1: people acting like he's gonna be the go to guy
- 29:18Speaker 1: maybe eventually Julian Edelman took four years, and that's not
- 29:21Speaker 1: to say he's gonna be Julian Edelman, but he made
- 29:24Speaker 1: the team. He made the team. I just want to
- 29:26Speaker 1: be able to check that box and appreciate that for
- 29:29Speaker 1: what it is, because it's an accomplishment without going over
- 29:33Speaker 1: our skis.
- 29:35Speaker 3: No, I'm not going over my skis. And we've talked
- 29:38Speaker 3: about this off there, Like he made the team, it
- 29:40Speaker 3: stops full stop, Like there's no projection of what he's
- 29:44Speaker 3: gonna be in terms of his rookie season that he's
- 29:46Speaker 3: gonna be this number one receiver. I'm not even sure
- 29:48Speaker 3: he's gonna be on the field, Like, I don't even
- 29:50Speaker 3: know if he's if he's a game day acting.
- 29:51Speaker 1: I mean, if they're gonna keep six receivers, he probably
- 29:55Speaker 1: gonna have to play special teams.
- 29:56Speaker 3: But right the one thing that I would say would
- 29:59Speaker 3: just and I want to get back to another thing
- 30:01Speaker 3: that you said in terms of if I again like
- 30:07Speaker 3: it's it was just the forty time, Like if it
- 30:09Speaker 3: was if this was a situation where this guy was
- 30:13Speaker 3: a five foot nothing, one hundred and twenty pound you know,
- 30:17Speaker 3: you know, right, sure, okay, like if he was just
- 30:20Speaker 3: not an NFL athlete, and I would sit here and say, okay,
- 30:25Speaker 3: like maybe this is kind of just preseason training camp flukiness.
- 30:29Speaker 3: But this guy was was on people's radars. You know,
- 30:32Speaker 3: he went to the East West Shrine Bowl and had
- 30:34Speaker 3: a great week. They're at the Shrine Bowl. He it
- 30:38Speaker 3: was just the forties. So I'll really reiterate that. The
- 30:41Speaker 3: other thing that you mentioned that I wanted to hit
- 30:42Speaker 3: on before we move on is how they can kind
- 30:46Speaker 3: of play multiple slot types at the same time. And
- 30:50Speaker 3: I actually yesterday, you know, Humble Breck. I was talking
- 30:52Speaker 3: to Julian Edelman yesterday. I'm gonna do just.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Real quick going into last year, and this is actually
- 30:57Speaker 1: absurd yea in terms of IFFT and have caught Cooper
- 31:00Speaker 1: Cup in terms of receptions going, so I just have
- 31:04Speaker 1: going in the last year and last year Afton Chishom
- 31:06Speaker 1: was a two twenty six. Yeah, Cooper Cup has the
- 31:08Speaker 1: record for twenty eight. Yeah, he had double yards aft
- 31:13Speaker 1: and Chisham had twenty five hundred going in last year.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Cooper Cup had career sixty four hundred.
- 31:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I don't think that Fton Chishm had four thousand receiving yard.
- 31:21Speaker 3: He I believe he eclipsed a certain threshold that only
- 31:26Speaker 3: so I think at Eastern I think it was like
- 31:27Speaker 3: three hundred career catch.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Three hundred catches.
- 31:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 3: So just to finish the take I saw going to
- 31:33Speaker 3: Edelman yesterday, and I'm going to publish a piece probably
- 31:35Speaker 3: next week about all this, just about uh, the slot
- 31:38Speaker 3: receiver in mcdaniels's offense and you know how you play
- 31:41Speaker 3: that role and his thoughts on pop and eftin Chisholm
- 31:44Speaker 3: a little bit as well, and we were talking about him,
- 31:47Speaker 3: Edelman and Danny A. Mondola and what made those two
- 31:51Speaker 3: guys truly different. And Edelman was saying that Danny M.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Mendola was a pure slot. He called him an F. Yeah,
- 32:00Speaker 3: they call you, they call it an F F receiver
- 32:02Speaker 3: in the offense, he was a pure slot receiver and
- 32:07Speaker 3: Edelman was really a Z who in three receiver packages
- 32:13Speaker 3: would occasionally go play the F and be the primary slot,
- 32:17Speaker 3: but in two base, in two receiver based packages, he
- 32:21Speaker 3: would be the Z. He would be an outside receiver.
- 32:24Speaker 3: So Chisholm to me is an F like he's a
- 32:27Speaker 3: pure Danny AM Mondola slot. And that's the comparison that
- 32:30Speaker 3: Josh McDaniels has has brought up. Pop, on the other hand,
- 32:34Speaker 3: might be able to be more of like a Z
- 32:36Speaker 3: or a joker or a flanker, a guy that moves
- 32:38Speaker 3: around the formation and plays off the line of scrimmage.
- 32:42Speaker 3: So to your point, like you can play in three
- 32:44Speaker 3: receiver sets, you can play a pure slot like Ft
- 32:47Speaker 3: and Chisholm, and you can play a Z like Pop
- 32:49Speaker 3: Douglas and have both of them together. So in this case,
- 32:53Speaker 3: even though it's not a perfect because it Pop and
- 32:56Speaker 3: Edelman are very different players, maybe a little bit better,
- 33:00Speaker 3: but Hogan was.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Big, So that's that's the But the skill sets more
- 33:03Speaker 1: similar because it's more based on straight line speed and.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Like downfield ability. Yeah, so you know that was what
- 33:09Speaker 3: Edelman was saying, was that the two of them would
- 33:11Speaker 3: play together in three receiver packages, but a Mondola really
- 33:15Speaker 3: wouldn't play it into receiver based offense, right because he
- 33:18Speaker 3: wasn't like that kind of which you.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Don't need to do that like to make for for
- 33:23Speaker 1: Chisholm to make an impact or pop. Honestly, I think
- 33:26Speaker 1: even before Chishom carves out his role, when they go
- 33:28Speaker 1: to twelve or twenty one, it's digs in either Kishan Buda,
- 33:33Speaker 1: Kai Williams or mac Hollins. Like that's what it's been
- 33:35Speaker 1: all summer. Pap has been the guy that's come off
- 33:38Speaker 1: the field when they bring on a second running back
- 33:40Speaker 1: or second tight end.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Yeah. So here's an email from Tom. I'm gonna I
- 33:43Speaker 3: want to give read this email because it's real. It's funny. Okay,
- 33:46Speaker 3: Alex is one hundred percent right, and chishm Island does
- 33:49Speaker 3: not make sense. Island are reserved only for elite corners.
- 33:52Speaker 3: You leave them in isolation, and QB's are afraid to
- 33:55Speaker 3: go there. Everyone thinks of revis Island when you hear
- 33:57Speaker 3: island exactly. It just does not work for receiver. This
- 34:00Speaker 3: is too much of a defense connotation. You can say
- 34:02Speaker 3: Chisholm train or Chishm Express. You get it before there's
- 34:05Speaker 3: too much momentum. Baby, Chef Chisholm. Sorry I can't read today.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Chef Chisholm, Chisholm bandwagon, the Church of Chisholm. I don't
- 34:15Speaker 3: like that, not on this show. Fine, but with father Fred,
- 34:20Speaker 3: you know Fred Kersh, Father Fred. But Chisham Island is
- 34:23Speaker 3: straight disrespectful to reeves an island nicknames reserved for elite
- 34:27Speaker 3: cornerback play.
- 34:27Speaker 1: I will say, somebody in the YouTube comments brought up
- 34:29Speaker 1: you could talk about a tackle having an island, so
- 34:32Speaker 1: I'll give you that.
- 34:33Speaker 3: I want to be clear. This was not Chisham Island, right,
- 34:38Speaker 3: But I was on Chisholm Island. That different.
- 34:42Speaker 1: So many people here it the other way, Pruse it
- 34:45Speaker 1: doesn't work.
- 34:45Speaker 3: I am not saying that his nickname is Chisham Island.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I am saying that there was an island of eft
- 34:52Speaker 3: and Chisholm og fans, and we were all on the island,
- 34:57Speaker 3: and now we are welcoming. I am not I'm not
- 35:00Speaker 3: a gatekeeper here, Alex. I welcome everybody. Everybody, come, come
- 35:04Speaker 3: on the ferry. You can come out to the island.
- 35:06Speaker 3: It's all right. You can. You can enjoy the beaches,
- 35:08Speaker 3: you can enjoy the views. I'm not I'm not trying
- 35:11Speaker 3: to tell you that you can't join the island. I'm
- 35:13Speaker 3: not saying it's Chisholm Island. I'm saying that I was
- 35:16Speaker 3: on the island, on the bandwagon, if you will, of
- 35:20Speaker 3: e fton Chisholm. And now we're good. I I all right,
- 35:24Speaker 3: let's move on.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Let's move on.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Who's your second up?
- 35:27Speaker 1: Second up for me was Anthony Jennings.
- 35:31Speaker 3: Yep, I say one.
- 35:32Speaker 1: I'm there's some reporting out there today from Andrew Callahan
- 35:35Speaker 1: that the Patriots are, you know, open a business for
- 35:37Speaker 1: trading him. And look, I ultimately get it if you
- 35:40Speaker 1: can get something good for him, if you don't think
- 35:41Speaker 1: he's gonna play fine. I like to see them find
- 35:44Speaker 1: a role for him. He's talented. I don't know that
- 35:46Speaker 1: this team is in a spot where they can walk
- 35:48Speaker 1: away from just talent. I don't know what that role
- 35:50Speaker 1: would be. Maybe he's not gonna handle a backup role well,
- 35:53Speaker 1: but like as as Harold Landry's as the Harold Landry spot,
- 35:59Speaker 1: as the second guy in that spot, I think Afredy
- 36:02Speaker 1: Jennings would be really good to have. I do you know,
- 36:07Speaker 1: came out with three sacks and he's against backups. The
- 36:10Speaker 1: pass rush isn't always gonna look like that for him,
- 36:12Speaker 1: but again, that's what a starter against backups looks like, right,
- 36:15Speaker 1: so he can be competitive against the starters. I ultimately
- 36:19Speaker 1: think he ends up. I had him on my last
- 36:21Speaker 1: ross projection. The more I think about it, I also
- 36:23Speaker 1: kept seven edge guys, which is probably unrealistic, but I'd
- 36:29Speaker 1: like to think he belongs on the team. He might
- 36:32Speaker 1: ultimately not make it, but he's making it tough on
- 36:35Speaker 1: him with performances like that.
- 36:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree with your point about I was looking
- 36:40Speaker 3: a little bit at just trying to put together a
- 36:44Speaker 3: roster projection just for myself on a Pats Picker, which
- 36:48Speaker 3: is a great little thing by patsfans dot com. I
- 36:51Speaker 3: think it is ian logsite. They do a great job
- 36:54Speaker 3: with Pats Picker, and you can it just does it
- 36:56Speaker 3: for you, right, you know, it's all the players, and
- 36:59Speaker 3: he counts it for you and it makes it nice
- 37:01Speaker 3: and clean. And I was trying to uh, I was
- 37:04Speaker 3: doing it myself and guys like Anthony Jennings. I was like,
- 37:10Speaker 3: who are we keeping over Anthony Jennings that, I'm like
- 37:14Speaker 3: banging the table for that. I'm like, I need to
- 37:16Speaker 3: get this guy on, and we need to part ways
- 37:19Speaker 3: with Anthony Jennings to get this guy on. I felt
- 37:22Speaker 3: the same way about Javon Baker. I felt the same
- 37:26Speaker 3: way about Kyle Dugger, where I was just like, Okay,
- 37:30Speaker 3: if you can find somebody to trade Kyle Dugger for
- 37:33Speaker 3: and you like the compensation and you know, so on
- 37:36Speaker 3: and so forth, I can see the reasoning for it.
- 37:39Speaker 3: But this team is not in a position yet where
- 37:43Speaker 3: they have fifty three locks on this roster, right Like,
- 37:47Speaker 3: it's not like we're sitting here saying man like, they're
- 37:50Speaker 3: gonna have to make some tough cuts like no disrespect.
- 37:52Speaker 3: But we're just not there yet. So Anthony Jennings fit
- 37:56Speaker 3: fits a similar mold. Okay, so maybe Landry Chase and
- 38:00Speaker 3: Keon White are going to play over him if healthy, Yeah,
- 38:03Speaker 3: what happens if one of them isn't healthy, right, And
- 38:06Speaker 3: do you want to maintain that depth? Uh? And do
- 38:10Speaker 3: you want to have an NFL player that you can
- 38:12Speaker 3: fill in for that? And if you're cutting you know,
- 38:16Speaker 3: a UDFA or one of these rookie draft picks that
- 38:19Speaker 3: you drafted the late day three to keep an Anthony Jennings,
- 38:23Speaker 3: I'd rather keep Anthony Jennings, Like. I just don't think
- 38:25Speaker 3: that there's a people pushing him off the roster.
- 38:28Speaker 1: I'm with you and I now, if somebody comes along
- 38:30Speaker 1: because you like a third round pick, fine, right, but
- 38:32Speaker 1: I don't think that's gonna happen.
- 38:34Speaker 3: Yeah, So I had I had the same way I
- 38:36Speaker 3: had Chisholm Jennings. Who is your last guy?
- 38:40Speaker 1: Uh, Travon Henderson And it's limited, but he's he's just
- 38:44Speaker 1: so good. He's just so good. And you saw the
- 38:46Speaker 1: contact balance and the power after seeing the speed last week. Uh,
- 38:49Speaker 1: put him on bubble wrap. I'm good. I'll see, I'll
- 38:51Speaker 1: see against Vegas. Trevion like done more than enough at
- 38:55Speaker 1: this point. I still don't think he's ever going to
- 38:58Speaker 1: be that like Bell cow back, because don't think Josh
- 39:00Speaker 1: Mctageal's gonna do it that way. And if I'm the Patriots,
- 39:03Speaker 1: like take a lesson, Ohio State goes out, gets Quinn
- 39:06Speaker 1: shown Judkins in the portal limits Henderson's touches and he
- 39:09Speaker 1: actually becomes more productive because of that. I I got
- 39:12Speaker 1: to pull up the set. I believe he had the
- 39:14Speaker 1: same number of scrimmage yards per game on despite playing
- 39:22Speaker 1: less games or something.
- 39:24Speaker 3: I think he had. Didn't He have more yards from
- 39:26Speaker 3: scrimmage than the year before.
- 39:27Speaker 4: He had.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Two hundred more yards one hundred and fifty more yards
- 39:32Speaker 1: per scrimmage on four less touches. Yeah, So like if
- 39:35Speaker 1: I'm the Patriots, take the lesson from that. You know,
- 39:38Speaker 1: I get maybe some people are uneasy with Ramandre Stevenson
- 39:41Speaker 1: because he's struggled at times the summer. He's banged up.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Now I keep him for now. I don't think you're
- 39:45Speaker 1: gonna find a better early down bowling ball back than
- 39:48Speaker 1: him at this point in the offseason. And if you
- 39:50Speaker 1: want to address that down the road, maybe you do.
- 39:52Speaker 1: But like it's it's got to be one A and
- 39:54Speaker 1: one B. I don't think that Trayvon Henderson's guy you
- 39:57Speaker 1: want touching the ball. You know, close to three hundred
- 39:59Speaker 1: times season.
- 40:00Speaker 3: He feels like a ten to twelve touch guy, a
- 40:05Speaker 3: game where you are finding ways to get him the
- 40:09Speaker 3: football in space as much as you can, while also
- 40:12Speaker 3: recognizing that you don't want to run him into the ground.
- 40:15Speaker 3: So ten touches twelve touches are right around two hundred
- 40:19Speaker 3: on the season, and that includes receptions, which I don't
- 40:23Speaker 3: think is exactly the same as like running in between
- 40:25Speaker 3: the tackles in terms of wear and tear. I think
- 40:28Speaker 3: that that's a feasible for Travon Henderson. I almost put
- 40:33Speaker 3: Travon Henderson, but I have a feeling that he might
- 40:36Speaker 3: get retired from the upslist at some point this season.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Can we do that to a rookie.
- 40:40Speaker 3: I didn't want to overuse it. We've only ever done
- 40:42Speaker 3: that with I knew you were you know we were
- 40:43Speaker 3: probably going to get to him. The one other up
- 40:46Speaker 3: that I wrote down was Ben Brown, who I thought
- 40:48Speaker 3: was really good in this game. I thought he moved
- 40:50Speaker 3: a lot of scrimmage really well. With Will Campbell on
- 40:52Speaker 3: that left side, they picked up some post snap movement
- 40:55Speaker 3: pretty well in this game. He continues to be clean
- 40:58Speaker 3: in pass protection. He's pretty good in pass partis last
- 41:00Speaker 3: year too, and that continues to be a strength of his.
- 41:03Speaker 3: I'm starting to get to the point I was a
- 41:06Speaker 3: Bradbury guy. I've been a Bradbury guy, but I do
- 41:11Speaker 3: start to wonder a little bit here, and I wanted
- 41:14Speaker 3: to kind of dovetail this into a conversation about what's
- 41:16Speaker 3: going on on the interior offensive line. Is their best
- 41:22Speaker 3: line going to be some sort of combination of Campbell, Wilson,
- 41:27Speaker 3: Brown on when New Moses, and no Garrett Bradberry, Because
- 41:32Speaker 3: I think if you're just basing it off of strictly
- 41:35Speaker 3: off of who's played the best, and not necessarily Garrett
- 41:39Speaker 3: Bradberry's a veteran, he's a guy you signed, a free
- 41:41Speaker 3: agent and all the different baggage that comes with it.
- 41:44Speaker 3: I think that you could objectively say that Jared Wilson
- 41:47Speaker 3: and Ben Brown have outplayed Garrett Bradberry. I just don't
- 41:51Speaker 3: know if they're ready to pull the plug on the
- 41:54Speaker 3: veteran center, young quarterback battery like that whole thing.
- 41:59Speaker 1: I think that is part of it for me. Ben
- 42:02Speaker 1: Brown and Drake may have worked together before, so I
- 42:06Speaker 1: know Ben Brown's young, but but you have that unless
- 42:08Speaker 1: they're worried about how Brown's picked up the offense. The
- 42:10Speaker 1: fact Brown's gotten so much, like it makes sense. But
- 42:13Speaker 1: Brown and Wilson are both working so much at left
- 42:16Speaker 1: guard right Like, at a certain point, if one of
- 42:19Speaker 1: them is going to be the center, he's got to
- 42:20Speaker 1: start playing center. That's not really a switch you want
- 42:22Speaker 1: to make Saturday night before the first game of the year. So, yeah,
- 42:26Speaker 1: I'm with you, And maybe it ultimately becomes that once
- 42:29Speaker 1: we get a few weeks into the season like we
- 42:31Speaker 1: did this last year. We all kind of knew Chukes
- 42:33Speaker 1: wasn't going to work at left tackle, and it worked
- 42:35Speaker 1: itself out eventually. I'd rather Drake may not have to
- 42:38Speaker 1: go through that, But and the offense as a whole,
- 42:41Speaker 1: I should say, but I think that is their best group.
- 42:44Speaker 1: I still think Jared Wilson's a starting caliber NFL center.
- 42:47Speaker 1: The only problem is he had a couple of bad
- 42:49Speaker 1: snaps early in the summer and then he really hasn't
- 42:51Speaker 1: played center since outside of those few snaps in the game.
- 42:53Speaker 1: So where are they at with him actually snapping and
- 42:57Speaker 1: does he need to work through that? Are they good
- 42:59Speaker 1: with him as center? Did that worry them to the
- 43:01Speaker 1: point where he's a guard? Okay? If that's true, find
- 43:04Speaker 1: playment guard, because I still think he can hold up there.
- 43:07Speaker 1: But now you got to get Ben Brown working at
- 43:09Speaker 1: center to work with Drake May. If it's just the
- 43:11Speaker 1: two of them rotating at guard, that's an outright position battle.
- 43:14Speaker 1: And I mean it looks right now like Garrett Bradbury's
- 43:16Speaker 1: the starting center. As much as he struggled, it doesn't
- 43:19Speaker 1: look like he's budget.
- 43:20Speaker 3: It seemed to settle down for him a little bit
- 43:24Speaker 3: after the Commander's preseason game. He had a decent game
- 43:27Speaker 3: one of the preseason.
- 43:28Speaker 1: That wants to know if you're on Ben Brown island.
- 43:31Speaker 3: No, No, that doesn't rise to island level.
- 43:35Speaker 1: But because it doesn't make sense.
- 43:36Speaker 3: The first preseason game against the Commanders, I thought Garrett
- 43:41Speaker 3: Bradbury played pretty well in and then he was kind
- 43:44Speaker 3: of the entrench center from that point on all of
- 43:47Speaker 3: last week in the joint practices and then in the
- 43:50Speaker 3: preseason game on Saturday, and then we came out of
- 43:53Speaker 3: the preseason game on Saturday, and all of a sudden,
- 43:57Speaker 3: there's a mix going on in there between Wilson Brown Bradberry.
- 44:02Speaker 3: I want to be clear, Bradberry's only playing center, yeah,
- 44:04Speaker 3: but Brown is playing some center. He's playing some left guard.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Wilson obviously played both positions in the game as well,
- 44:12Speaker 3: So Bradberry's only playing center, but he's in a mix
- 44:14Speaker 3: of three guys that are rotating in from a bigger picture, yeah,
- 44:18Speaker 3: you know, sort of cycle. So the one thing that
- 44:22Speaker 3: Bradbury has going for him is not how he plays
- 44:25Speaker 3: after the snap. It's before the snap. He's a veteran center.
- 44:29Speaker 3: You have a second year quarterback. He's a guy that
- 44:32Speaker 3: can help Drake May with protections and mike calls and
- 44:35Speaker 3: sniffing out blitzes and seeing things and all that kind
- 44:38Speaker 3: of stuff. There is something to be said for that.
- 44:40Speaker 3: There's a lot of value in having an experienced center
- 44:44Speaker 3: working with a young quarterback. But does that push Is
- 44:48Speaker 3: that enough? Is that enough for Gerett Bradbury to hold
- 44:51Speaker 3: off guys that are better than him currently? I would
- 44:55Speaker 3: say we'll find out.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Clearly has been so far, but that can change. When
- 44:59Speaker 1: this is where this is not a Patriots thing like league,
- 45:02Speaker 1: Why there's so few opportunities to actually evaluate these offensive
- 45:05Speaker 1: linemen with the restrictions on padded practices and things like
- 45:08Speaker 1: that in the summer, when a lot of it is mental,
- 45:12Speaker 1: it can be enough to hold them on. Right when
- 45:14Speaker 1: it gets live, when the lights come on, that can
- 45:17Speaker 1: change real quick, right.
- 45:18Speaker 3: But I guess my point is, and this is sort
- 45:22Speaker 3: of a take, Like I guess if you kind of
- 45:26Speaker 3: know that this is going the other way with Garrett Bradbury, Yeah, Like,
- 45:30Speaker 3: do you carry Garrett Bradbury on the roster knowing that
- 45:34Speaker 3: he has a very very short leash and then he's
- 45:36Speaker 3: probably like he might spend the majority of the season
- 45:39Speaker 3: on the bench.
- 45:39Speaker 1: To your point, they might have that roster spot just
- 45:42Speaker 1: by the rest of the roster. I have them keeping
- 45:43Speaker 1: ten offensive linemen on my last roster projection, which is
- 45:46Speaker 1: a lot, but I kind of noted in there it
- 45:50Speaker 1: might be like last year. It's at different positions, but
- 45:52Speaker 1: it might be like last year where some of these
- 45:53Speaker 1: battles continue in the regular season. The other question I
- 45:56Speaker 1: have about Bradbury, and this is just because a lot
- 45:58Speaker 1: of guys have taken this approach in recent years, Like
- 46:01Speaker 1: he seems like somebody who's bought into the program and
- 46:05Speaker 1: is in on Mike Rabels, in on Josh McDaniels, and
- 46:07Speaker 1: like's working with the younger guys and all of that.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Like from talking to him. That's that's what he seems
- 46:12Speaker 1: to be. But all these guys are competitors. Is he
- 46:15Speaker 1: somebody who you know, who's the first round pick, he's
- 46:18Speaker 1: a seven year starter. Does he look at it if
- 46:20Speaker 1: they do make the switch and say and basically request
- 46:23Speaker 1: his release right and say I want to go somewhe
- 46:26Speaker 1: where I'm gonna have a chance to start and play.
- 46:27Speaker 3: I just wonder if you do that now instead of
- 46:30Speaker 3: a month from now at a fairness to him, right,
- 46:33Speaker 3: because I think Jared Wilson's the center of the future. Yeah,
- 46:36Speaker 3: and he played thirteen snaps at center in the game.
- 46:39Speaker 3: I thought it went pretty well, and you know you
- 46:41Speaker 3: were talking about, well, those guys haven't worked as much
- 46:44Speaker 3: at center. I do wonder if, like Wilson and I
- 46:47Speaker 3: hear you in terms of working it with Drake May specifically,
- 46:51Speaker 3: but if Brown and Wilson are natural centers, yeah, so
- 46:56Speaker 3: they're learning guard as players that really are position one
- 47:01Speaker 3: is center, in position two is guard. So like for them,
- 47:04Speaker 3: maybe center is more like riding a bike and guard
- 47:08Speaker 3: is really the one that needs to have ramps. So
- 47:11Speaker 3: if you move Ben Brown back to center, who was
- 47:13Speaker 3: Drake May center for most of the year, last year.
- 47:16Speaker 3: I don't know if that's necessarily a huge transition. So
- 47:20Speaker 3: like I just look at it that way, and I
- 47:22Speaker 3: do wonder with roster cuts coming up, And this is
- 47:24Speaker 3: totally take speculation, Like is there a world where they
- 47:28Speaker 3: just look at it and say, well, Bradbury or Brown
- 47:31Speaker 3: beat out Bradberry.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Well, I mean brad Breaker still say stay is the
- 47:35Speaker 1: backup second he could right then it becomes Bradbury versus
- 47:38Speaker 1: c col Strange, right, which I think Bradberry is gonna
- 47:41Speaker 1: I think Bradbury gets it too in that in that scenario,
- 47:43Speaker 1: but unless he doesn't want to be here as backup,
- 47:46Speaker 1: that would be and that just to fitish conversation, that
- 47:49Speaker 1: would be cold Strange's path to the raw. I think
- 47:50Speaker 1: that's cold Strange is basically only path to the roster.
- 47:52Speaker 1: At this point, let's go to the downs. Be a
- 47:54Speaker 1: little bit quicker on the downs. Yeah, my first down,
- 47:58Speaker 1: just get it out of the way.
- 47:59Speaker 3: Was was Drake Like, even though I said all those
- 48:01Speaker 3: things defending him at the beginning, it still wasn't good enough.
- 48:04Speaker 3: And it's still he's still got to be better than that.
- 48:06Speaker 3: I don't think we need to belabor the point. Oh
- 48:08Speaker 3: I had Drake.
- 48:08Speaker 1: I have one more sneaky up by the way. Oh yeah,
- 48:11Speaker 1: Jordan Polk. Yeah, Jordan Polk has made a little bit
- 48:15Speaker 1: of a roster push here down the stretch, and he
- 48:16Speaker 1: might be somebody that starts on the practice squad and
- 48:18Speaker 1: comes into the picture later. They are going to love
- 48:21Speaker 1: the way he chased down the returner on that kickoff
- 48:24Speaker 1: the all Rable brought it up. He had the interception
- 48:26Speaker 1: last week, He was ready to run stop this week.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Who's the Who's the sixth corner right now? If they're
- 48:34Speaker 1: gonna keep six, which they might because of injuries.
- 48:36Speaker 3: So Gonzales, Davis, Jones, Austin, DJ James and so do
- 48:41Speaker 3: you have DJ James on on like.
- 48:43Speaker 1: He's he's clearly the fifth corner just based on the
- 48:45Speaker 1: way they're off right right, You said six, So that's
- 48:48Speaker 1: what I'm saying. They keep six because of injuries, but.
- 48:51Speaker 3: We're stretching it to get to six, is my point.
- 48:53Speaker 3: James is already your fifth guy.
- 48:54Speaker 1: But Christian Zalz has been banged up. Yes, Carlton Davis
- 48:57Speaker 1: has this injury history, Marcus Jones has this injury history.
- 49:00Speaker 1: If you're gonna be short at safety two, that might
- 49:02Speaker 1: be a spot where you want to carry a little
- 49:03Speaker 1: extra depth. Who's six corner right now?
- 49:05Speaker 3: Probably miles battle based off of what they've done, all right,
- 49:09Speaker 3: but maybe if you consider Jordan Polk is a corner.
- 49:12Speaker 1: So he can play a little bit bit of both.
- 49:13Speaker 3: I think he's really a nickel, right he's slot.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Yeah, so they might need a slot. Yeah, Okay, anyway,
- 49:20Speaker 1: that was just take I had all right, So I
- 49:21Speaker 1: had Drake mayonack to it. Sorry, I forgot. I went
- 49:24Speaker 1: to the bottom of my notebook to make sure he
- 49:25Speaker 1: missed anything. I forgot. I had that down there.
- 49:27Speaker 3: Did you have any who was your down?
- 49:29Speaker 1: First down? Kyle Duggar?
- 49:30Speaker 3: Okay, I had him on here too.
- 49:32Speaker 1: I just I he didn't have He had an okay
- 49:34Speaker 1: game to begin with that, and it ultimately wasn't called
- 49:37Speaker 1: a fumble. But that play at the end, you know,
- 49:40Speaker 1: Mike Riebel kind of talked about it the other day.
- 49:42Speaker 1: That's everything this coaching staff has preached removing from the
- 49:45Speaker 1: program since day one. It's a good point, and I
- 49:49Speaker 1: just don't I get Ultimately it didn't impact the result
- 49:53Speaker 1: and it wasn't called a fumble. But the preseason event
- 49:56Speaker 1: is more about looking about the process than the result.
- 49:59Speaker 1: It was the regular season that happened. We probably laugh
- 50:02Speaker 1: about it, move on the preseason. Something like the fact
- 50:05Speaker 1: he was on the field to begin with on the
- 50:06Speaker 1: final well, that's not a good sign.
- 50:08Speaker 3: That was like ninety percent of the reason why I
- 50:10Speaker 3: had him on here is because he's playing well.
- 50:12Speaker 1: I literally had the thought, I'm like, if Kyle dugger
- 50:14Speaker 1: gets a pick on the last play of the game,
- 50:16Speaker 1: that's going to be an interesting little event to have
- 50:18Speaker 1: fun with and talk about. But you know, the fumble
- 50:21Speaker 1: is not not what you're looking for in that situation.
- 50:25Speaker 3: So I will give this to Kyle Duggar. I had
- 50:27Speaker 3: him on here because of the same exact reasons he
- 50:29Speaker 3: was playing in the game that late, and because of
- 50:32Speaker 3: the the near fumble at the end. I actually watching
- 50:36Speaker 3: his tape, you know, there are obvious he has some
- 50:40Speaker 3: stiffness to his game and coverage that we've known as
- 50:42Speaker 3: existed this whole time. Yeah, it's not new. When he
- 50:45Speaker 3: plays deep safety, I do think that he's somebody who's
- 50:48Speaker 3: limited range wise and like doesn't necessarily have that preferred
- 50:52Speaker 3: vision to like see the entire field and really process
- 50:55Speaker 3: what's coming into his zones. And things like that. So
- 50:58Speaker 3: I think there's some elements that when he plays, you know,
- 51:02Speaker 3: away from the football in the deep part of the field.
- 51:05Speaker 3: But with Dugger, I just the thing that I keep
- 51:09Speaker 3: coming back to with him is you just rep you
- 51:13Speaker 3: kind of summed it up perfectly. That type of stuff
- 51:18Speaker 3: is the exact type of the s that gets you
- 51:20Speaker 3: beat that Mike Rabel is trying to eliminate from the program, right,
- 51:24Speaker 3: And that's the type of thing that the buttoned up
- 51:26Speaker 3: type of stuff that they are trying to eliminate from
- 51:30Speaker 3: this football program completely so that they can get back
- 51:34Speaker 3: to a level that they want to be at. And
- 51:37Speaker 3: with Dougger, I just I don't that's kind of a
- 51:40Speaker 3: perfect em example of a one play example of that happening.
- 51:45Speaker 3: And so it's a good point. I had him on
- 51:48Speaker 3: there for that reason as well, and because he was
- 51:50Speaker 3: playing late in the game. Now, the one thing I
- 51:52Speaker 3: want to bring up with Kyle Dugger in the defense
- 51:54Speaker 3: of Kyle Dugger. Our first year, my first full year
- 51:58Speaker 3: twenty eighteen, I was at the Patriots' final preseason game
- 52:03Speaker 3: against the New York Giants in the Metal Lands, Okay,
- 52:06Speaker 3: because I remember I was still living in New York
- 52:07Speaker 3: because you weren't a training camp. And I decided to
- 52:11Speaker 3: go to the game, and they got me a credential.
- 52:13Speaker 3: Thank you, Thank you Zanas for getting me the credential.
- 52:15Speaker 3: And I went to the game. Jason mccordy played the
- 52:19Speaker 3: entire game. He was just like Kyle Duggar. He was
- 52:23Speaker 3: in the game for the last snap of the of
- 52:25Speaker 3: the play of the game. And I remember going into
- 52:30Speaker 3: the road team locker room in the Medal Lands, which
- 52:33Speaker 3: by the way, has two road team locker rooms. There's
- 52:35Speaker 3: one for the Jets and one.
- 52:36Speaker 1: For the understand why they did that, which is very confult,
- 52:38Speaker 1: I understand, Oh, it's because that way when they have
- 52:41Speaker 1: neutral Syche games, they have two locker rooms. Okay, maybe,
- 52:45Speaker 1: so when you have Army Navy there, I went for
- 52:46Speaker 1: Army one for Navy. Right, they don't have to like
- 52:48Speaker 1: use the like when they came here for Army Navy.
- 52:51Speaker 1: Navy used the Patriots locker room, which is a nice
- 52:52Speaker 1: gesture by the Patriots, obviously, but it's also like a
- 52:55Speaker 1: whole other thing you have to do.
- 52:57Speaker 3: Right, So I remember going into the road team locker
- 53:01Speaker 3: room that night.
- 53:02Speaker 1: One of the things, did you I think I remember
- 53:04Speaker 1: reading this when the Jets play the Giants. When they
- 53:06Speaker 1: play each other, I think the road team has to
- 53:08Speaker 1: use one of those road team locker rooms. I don't
- 53:10Speaker 1: think they're allowed to use their own.
- 53:11Speaker 3: Locker because it's like and they have to be at
- 53:13Speaker 3: a disadvantage of being in the road.
- 53:15Speaker 1: I think I remember, everything has to be equal. Yeah,
- 53:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna look that up. I think I remember seeing that.
- 53:20Speaker 3: That's crazy because your locker is literally like right down
- 53:23Speaker 3: the ball and you can't use it anyways. So Jason
- 53:27Speaker 3: McCarty sat at the locker, stood at his locker or whatever,
- 53:30Speaker 3: and I remember being in the scrum talking to Jason
- 53:33Speaker 3: mccordy and him not knowing if he made the team
- 53:36Speaker 3: or not, Like he was one hundred percent on the bubble.
- 53:39Speaker 3: One hundred percent on the bubble, played into the fourth
- 53:42Speaker 3: quarter of the last preseason game, and this was when
- 53:44Speaker 3: there were four preseason games, So I think that made
- 53:46Speaker 3: even more. It made me meant even more at the
- 53:49Speaker 3: time that he was playing, and later that year he
- 53:53Speaker 3: ends up breaking up the pass and the Super Bowl
- 53:55Speaker 3: that won them the game, and the rest is history.
- 53:59Speaker 3: So as much as I I want to sit here
- 54:00Speaker 3: and say that Kyle Duggar looks like he's on the
- 54:02Speaker 3: outside looking in. It kind of looks like Jason McCarty
- 54:05Speaker 3: was on the outside looking into. Now, maybe his brother
- 54:07Speaker 3: being a team captain and one of the better Patriots
- 54:09Speaker 3: of that generation, that might have played a role in
- 54:13Speaker 3: the fact that he ended up making the team. But
- 54:16Speaker 3: Jason McCarty ended up making the team. He ended up
- 54:18Speaker 3: having a great season with the Patriots. He ended up
- 54:21Speaker 3: making the play of the season in the Super Bowl
- 54:24Speaker 3: for the Patriots. So my point is is that maybe
- 54:28Speaker 3: there's a sliver, tiny little bit of hope that this
- 54:31Speaker 3: could turn back around for Kyle dugger at some point.
- 54:34Speaker 3: So I just want to throw that story out there
- 54:36Speaker 3: because I think it's I always think of that when
- 54:39Speaker 3: we talk about this kind of stuff with Jason McCarty.
- 54:42Speaker 3: All right, last one here for real quick.
- 54:45Speaker 1: The Jets can use their own locker room or the
- 54:46Speaker 1: Giants when they're the road team, but they have to
- 54:48Speaker 1: walk in a different way and it's resulted in players
- 54:51Speaker 1: sometimes walking into the other team's locker room.
- 54:53Speaker 3: That's crazy. So I had may, I had Duggar. My
- 54:57Speaker 3: last down here was Javon Baker, who Mike just tweeted
- 55:01Speaker 3: a couple of minutes ago that Javon Baker is traveling
- 55:05Speaker 3: to New York for the preseason finale, so he hasn't
- 55:07Speaker 3: been practicing the last couple of days, but maybe he's
- 55:10Speaker 3: still gonna play in the game. I know that there
- 55:13Speaker 3: was some bad luck for Javon Baker in terms of
- 55:15Speaker 3: the balls he was getting from Josh Dobbs.
- 55:17Speaker 1: It wasn't I'll get to that when I do down.
- 55:19Speaker 3: Yeah, it wasn't perfect from Josh Dobbs by any means
- 55:22Speaker 3: in terms of throwing to Javon Baker. That definitely contributed
- 55:25Speaker 3: to the one for seven that Javon Baker had one
- 55:28Speaker 3: catch seven targets in the box score. But I just
- 55:31Speaker 3: thought with Javon Baker, it's still just isn't fully clicking
- 55:36Speaker 3: for Javon Baker. The consistency that you were talking about
- 55:39Speaker 3: for Drake may is really there with Javon Baker.
- 55:41Speaker 4: Two.
- 55:42Speaker 3: He has moments, but the route running, I thought there's
- 55:46Speaker 3: a couple of routes that I thought were ify in
- 55:48Speaker 3: the game. You know, does not great job pushing vertical
- 55:51Speaker 3: and getting the corner out into space and then kind
- 55:55Speaker 3: of breaking down and creating separation at the top of
- 55:57Speaker 3: the route. Even the throw that Woolridge completed him, I
- 56:00Speaker 3: thought was he was blanketed. The ball just kind of
- 56:03Speaker 3: squeaked through the corner who had his back to the
- 56:06Speaker 3: quarterback and didn't know the ball was coming. The throw
- 56:10Speaker 3: at the back of the end zone, I kind of
- 56:11Speaker 3: thought Javon Baker stopped down on his route, Like if
- 56:13Speaker 3: he kept running the back of the end zone there,
- 56:16Speaker 3: I think that that's a more catchable target. So there's
- 56:18Speaker 3: just some little like route running things with him that
- 56:20Speaker 3: I still think pop up every single time he gets
- 56:23Speaker 3: a lot of snaps or reps in a practice or
- 56:26Speaker 3: a game. That's just you're just missing that last piece
- 56:29Speaker 3: for Javon Baker. So I had Javon Baker on the downs.
- 56:32Speaker 3: Oh in the false start, the fall start was he
- 56:35Speaker 3: knew it in the moment, like I'm on the bubble,
- 56:37Speaker 3: I'm competing for the roster. I can't be making mental
- 56:40Speaker 3: errors like that. So made Javon Baker Kyle Duggar, who
- 56:45Speaker 3: was your last one?
- 56:46Speaker 1: Uh? I leave one?
- 56:48Speaker 3: Oh? Who were your last two?
- 56:49Speaker 1: Josh Jobs was one.
- 56:52Speaker 3: I had already said my piece about Josh Jobs on
- 56:54Speaker 3: our post game show, and I kind of went after
- 56:56Speaker 3: him a little bit.
- 56:57Speaker 1: So I'll just say, like when you're the backup quarterback, right, obviously,
- 56:59Speaker 1: the backupquarterback's not gonna get perfect. I'm just gonna miss
- 57:01Speaker 1: him throws you just can't get people hurt. You just
- 57:04Speaker 1: can't be leading guys out in traffic. And that's like
- 57:07Speaker 1: even the throw to Kyle Williams. I don't hate the
- 57:10Speaker 1: concept behind it, Like, yeah, he's gonna take a hit there,
- 57:12Speaker 1: but that's that's big boy football. Sometimes you're gonna go
- 57:16Speaker 1: over the middle in the NFL and you're gonna take
- 57:17Speaker 1: a hit. But all the more reason that throw needs
- 57:20Speaker 1: to be at the numbers or lower so he can
- 57:22Speaker 1: catch it and get down and protect himself or even
- 57:24Speaker 1: like a little behind them, well behind him or somewhere.
- 57:26Speaker 1: When you put that ball out in front of up
- 57:28Speaker 1: over his head, he's now fully exposing himself. I don't
- 57:31Speaker 1: remember who's a linebacker, safety, Whoever's lurking there in the middle,
- 57:34Speaker 1: and that's how that happens. So I'm not expecting I'm
- 57:37Speaker 1: not expecting Josh Hobsy perfect. He's obviously, I think, been
- 57:40Speaker 1: a little less than expected throughout the summer. But that's
- 57:43Speaker 1: one where like you just I remember a couple of
- 57:45Speaker 1: years ago when trace McSorley was here and he was
- 57:47Speaker 1: the third or fourth string quarterback, and you know, I
- 57:51Speaker 1: made a deal about it, and people like, right, he's
- 57:52Speaker 1: not gonna make the team. W are you talking about it?
- 57:55Speaker 1: They were like three or four guys he got hurt
- 57:56Speaker 1: because he was just leading them into places that he
- 57:59Speaker 1: shouldn't been lead eating them. And then most of them
- 58:01Speaker 1: were guys that weren't going to make the roster, but
- 58:02Speaker 1: he got It was the year if he was drafted.
- 58:04Speaker 1: He got Taekwon Thornton hurt, which you know in retrospect,
- 58:08Speaker 1: but like that's that's the one thing is backup quarterback.
- 58:12Speaker 1: He can't be putting your guys in harms away, So
- 58:14Speaker 1: he's a down. And then Demontre Jacobs was a down
- 58:17Speaker 1: for me. Started camp looking like he was going to
- 58:19Speaker 1: be in the mix to be the third tackle. Then
- 58:22Speaker 1: it was you know, Marcus Bryant took priority over him,
- 58:25Speaker 1: but he was still clearly getting reps with the second unit. Now,
- 58:27Speaker 1: Jacobs has fallen behind Darian Lowe, who also did not
- 58:30Speaker 1: have a very good game, but at least he's still
- 58:33Speaker 1: in the picture, I think, and let me be clear,
- 58:35Speaker 1: because they apparently it wasn't clear about it clear enough
- 58:37Speaker 1: about this for Felger, I do think there's a chance
- 58:40Speaker 1: they find a tackle on waivers who ends up being
- 58:42Speaker 1: their fourth tackle. No, that's not an ideal situation. It's
- 58:46Speaker 1: better if he's a better player than who you have.
- 58:47Speaker 1: I think you do it, obviously, But Jacobs, it does
- 58:50Speaker 1: not look like is going to make the team. I
- 58:52Speaker 1: think Lowe's ahead of him right now. But I do
- 58:54Speaker 1: think there's a room for them to find somebody better.
- 58:56Speaker 1: Marcus Bryant's been solid, and if he's your third tackle, okay,
- 59:01Speaker 1: but he's really young. You know, he's a rookie. He's
- 59:04Speaker 1: a little more raw. I'd like for them like I
- 59:07Speaker 1: like him Wore as a developmental player. Let's say something
- 59:09Speaker 1: happens where Morgan Moses or Will Campbell is going to
- 59:12Speaker 1: miss multiple weeks. Maybe you give Marcus bryan a shot.
- 59:16Speaker 1: But I'd like to have a little more proven commodity
- 59:18Speaker 1: with a slightly higher floor than what they have in
- 59:21Speaker 1: Darien low Right now, maybe they can't find that guy.
- 59:23Speaker 1: I don't know that they ultimately can, but I would
- 59:25Speaker 1: take a look.
- 59:27Speaker 3: This is I put this play this was this was
- 59:31Speaker 3: a rough film for Demontre Jacobs. This is that was
- 59:33Speaker 3: one of the that was bad.
- 59:35Speaker 1: Well, I just on the usage. I was thinking, just
- 59:38Speaker 1: on the usage.
- 59:38Speaker 3: The film was. He was like this was last year.
- 59:43Speaker 3: He was better than that. Like he wasn't good last year.
- 59:45Speaker 3: I don't get me wrong, but he was better than that.
- 59:47Speaker 3: It was it was a tough watch for him and
- 59:50Speaker 3: run and pass block and it was a tough watch. Yeah,
- 59:52Speaker 3: you're Josh Dobbs point is a good one. I like
- 59:54Speaker 3: I said, I kind of said my piece to exact
- 59:56Speaker 3: same take on post game with him. It was it
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: was really just disappointing from all angles that Kyle Williams
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: getting open in the game again. He actually the ball
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: kind of found him a few times. This time he
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: had three catches on three targets to start the game.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: He did hang on to the one where he got
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: lit up. Yeah, And I thought, I that obviously we
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: shouldn't get hurt.
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: I thought he got opened a couple of times with
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Drake in the game too. I mentioned the one earlier,
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: and so I felt like a big game was coming
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: for Kyle Williams where he was kind of gonna get
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: some momentum and get some confidence going and then low
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: hol defender drops out sits right there over the middle
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: of the field. Josh Dobbs leads him right into the
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: into the robber help and boom out for the game
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: out for all week this week. Who knows if he's
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: gonna play tomorrow night or not, but probably not. Like
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: not great, right you have? You finally had a shiny
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: new toy and then the shiny new toy broke right,
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: and that's that's never great. So that's three up, three down.

- 1:02:07Speaker 3: to your calls now. Nate is in Connecticut. What's up, Nate?
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: Hey, guys can hear me? Well?
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I got you, all right, sweet.
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: So my question for you guys, so recently Elliott Wolfe
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: came out and said that they'd be absolutely well, they'd
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: absolutely do anything to help the team, including some high
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: round draft picks in the trade talk for any player
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: that would help the team. What player do you guys think?
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: What he what's he talking about. I know there's probably
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: a mix of players that could really help the team,
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: But what position do you think we would really need
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: the most help at? Is at edge with Micah Parsons
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: or you know, another like a Trey Hendrickston.
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: Who do you guys think could be Okay, Yeah, thanks
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: for the call, Nate, So obviously, I mean we can
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: just do this now because then you're gonna get to
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: it at some point. Guys like Hendrickson, guys like Terry McLaurin,
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: guys like Michaeh Parsons. Everybody would take those guys on
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: your team.
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: If you go back and listen to how the question
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: was asked, and no offense to Phil Perry who asked it,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: I just to parse the words. He basically said, would
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: you trade a first round pick if you felt and
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: make the team better? And Elliet Will said yeah, which, yeah,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: if it's gonna make the team better, you trade the
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: first There's so much context missing from that conversation. Does
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: trading a first round pick for Terry McLaurin do they
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: feel that would make the team better? Like in the
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: short term, obviously it would. Do they feel like ultimately
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: they'd be in a better position as an organization. Some
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: people would probably argue, no, would you trade a first
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: for Michaeh Parsons? Absolutely, hell yeah. It's gonna cost a
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: lot more than just one first to trade for Michael Parsons,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: So don't I don't know how much weight you put
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: into that answer.
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: Yeah, And I guess, like, let's just I'm back because
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: if people, I'm sure is gonna be a lot of
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: the questions today, you know, what would you trade? I
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: want to take Micah out of it, because I would
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: not trade what it would cost to get Micaeh Parsons,
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: Let's put it that way. I don't think that Michael
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Parsons is getting traded because of that.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: I think he has to. I mean Jerry, him and
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: Jerry Jones have been hurling insults at each other.
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: I think they're headed for a divorce. I don't think
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: it's today, Like, I don't think this is happening this
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: at this time.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: Period of n I think he's just gonna sit out games.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: I don't know, but I doesn't seem that kind of guy.
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: I don't think it's happening now. Maybe in the off season.
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: Maybe I when his contract of like is really at
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: the end.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: Have I told you my like tinfoil hat idea?
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: Sure? I don't think so.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: So I scratch your back, your scratch mine. Yeah, Michael
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Parsons for Trey Hendrickson in a first The Bengals issue
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: with Hendrickson is his age. The Cowboys issue with Michaeh
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: Parsons is him and the owner hate each other.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Now, maybe Trey Hendrickson hates Jerry Jones too. I don't know.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: It's possibility, But doesn't that kind of solve everybody's problems.
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: Yeah, that's not a bad trade idea. So now let's
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: talk about a tree hand. So I'm taking Micah Parsons
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: off the table because I think if you're gonna trade,
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: it's not it's not totally.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Let's just to actually play it out for the people
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: who wonder.
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: I think it would take like what Clil Mack got
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: traded for a couple of years.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: First round picks.
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: Yeah, two first round picks plus plus.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: So here's the thing. If well, he's gonna be worth
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: more than Khalil Mack because he's older, he's younger, and
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: he's had more production A.
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: Little bit younger, I mean, Cleio Mack was a great player.
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Parsons better in the position, he's.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: Better, but we're not Cleo Mack.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: I think it's three first, okay, even if it's two,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: Like the Patriots have multiple needs they need to address
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: before their contender. Yeah, Michaeh Parsons alone doesn't make them
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: a contender. Case in point, on a better roster in Dallas.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: How much playoff successes Michael Parsons brought them.
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's not totally fair. Like there's there's twenty
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: one Patriots and Cowboys, probably the Cowboys, but like, it's
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: not just Michaeh Parsons's problem that they can't win in
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: the playoffs.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: Right because the talent around him is not enough. But
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: the talent around him is not enough there what situation here?
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: And the way to add that talent is going to
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: be through the draft, and now you're giving up those picks.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: So I feel trust me, I feel kind of gross
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: saying no to Michael Parsons. But the Patriots is just
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: not in that spot. I think it's a contender that
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: feels they're a step away. It's Kansas City, it's the
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: usual suspects. It's Kansas City, it's Buffalo They're not gonna
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: trade him the Eagles, so they're gonna trade in the division.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: You know, do the Bengals get creative and put trade
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Efferckson on the table? Those are the teams you're talking about.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: I don't think that. I don't think Michael Parson's getting
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: trade is on the table because I think the asking.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: But I'm saying if he does. If he does, the
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: Riots are not the kind of team that's trading for him.
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: I don't think any team's trading for him. Honestly. Hendricks
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: let's talk a little bit about Trey Hendrickson, because this one,
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: I do feel like is a little bit more real,
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: and not just in terms of the Patriots interest, but
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: just in terms of getting him getting dealt Because a
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: big reason in my mind why a guy like Marca
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: Parsons isn't getting traded is because the absolute boat that
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: you were going to have to give the Cowboys to
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: get him out of Dallas is insane. Like the trade
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: package you're gonna have to put together to get Micah
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: Parsons out of Dallas is going to be incredibly astronomically
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: high asking price. I don't think that that's necessarily the
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: case for Trey Hendrickson. This is a guy that's disgruntled
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: with the contract. He's thirty. He's a pass rusher that's
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: on the wrong side of the thirty years old threshold.
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: So you're looking at Trey Hendrickson as like a two
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: to three year player and that sort of window. So
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: I don't think that you're going to have to give
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: up two first round picks and maybe even more for
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: a guy like Trey Hendrickson. If I was the Patriots,
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: and I'm not saying that this would.
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: Get it done.
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: If I was the Patriots, I might think about offering
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: a second round picking Keon White for Trey Hendrickson. I
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: think that that's probably where I would go, Like, here's
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: you know, key On White still young. Yeah, potentially a
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: sending player that plays the same position. It's it's swapping,
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: you know, in one in, one out. Maybe if you're
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: the Bengals, you ask for a player in the secondary too,
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: because their secondary is not good.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: Kyle Duggar, take them.
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: Kyle Duggar. I've heard Marcus Jones's name thrown out there,
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: just because you know Alex Austin's ascension.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: I'd rather trade Kyle Duggar.
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: I mean, I think everybody would rather trade Kyle Dugger,
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: but something like that for Trey Hendrickson. If the Patriots
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: are as interested as some of the reporting that's out there,
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: I don't think that that's totally like the Bengals are
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: so clicking and hanging up the phone on that.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: The thing you have there that's nice is remember how
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: for years and years the Patriots just churned out corners
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: like Udfa's late round picks because that was the coaching
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: staff specialty. Mike Pellegrino obviously tremendously talented cornerbacks coach. Isn't
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: that supposed to be with this team miss in the
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: front seven with this coaching staff is so I trust them,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: you know, to find a pass rusher in a fourth threat.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Maybe it's Britain Swinton, maybe it's a lashaponder, right, So
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: I do still think they'll have that younger guy in
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: the pipeline. I would probably do that. The problem is, like,
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: so I had Trags on the radio on Saturday to
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: talk about this. Trags made it sound like the Bengals
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: want a first plus. Trags made it sound like the
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: Bengals listening, And I don't want to put words in
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: his mouth. That just texted him to kind of make sure.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: But the gist of what he said was basically, the
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Bengals taking calls on Trey Hendrickson doesn't necessarily mean the
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: Bengals are about to trade Trey Hendrickson. The Bengals taking
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: calls on Trey Hendrickson is more about, well, while this
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: nonsense is going on, let's see if somebody will get stupid.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: Let's see if somebody will give us a first and
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: something right. And if nobody gives them that. Trags seem
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: to think Hendrickson will ultimately cave and play on the contract.
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: I think that might be the most realistic thing. No,
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: the reason why I said, I think Trey Hendrickson, Micah Parsons,
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: and Terry McLaurin to me are pie in the sky.
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: I think those are dreams, pipe dreams.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: I'm leaving that door open from mclorn a little bit,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: a little bit, a little bit pipe dream a little bit.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: At your organization, man, it's a different ownership, I know, different.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: They have a different everything's different. They have a different owner,
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: they have a different general manager.
- 1:10:08Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: Different owners have like not many.
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: Dan Snyder owned the team for like our whole.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: Life, not them, but like there's other organizations that's that.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: That's just who they are in all of sports, in
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: all of sports, that happens.
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: It's different with with Trey Hendrickson. No, I think that
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: there is some real smoke to him potentially getting traded.
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: And I'm not saying that it gets the deal done.
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: That's just if I'm the Patriots, you make that offer,
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: right like you you put it on the table, and
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: a deal for Trey Hendrickson, like I said, and to me,
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: it would be Hendrickson for Kean White second round pick,
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: and then maybe if they want one of your your
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: defensive backs, you can throw one of the defensive backs
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: from YouTube?
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: Do you not?
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: Like Christian Gonzales?
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: But like, do you think that's a wow offer?
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: No? I think that's a fair.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Okay, That's the thing I think with the Bengals, it's
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: not here's all the offers, let's pick the best one.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: I think it's if somebody wows us will trade them
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: or not.
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: We want But I'm just not going any further.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: I'm not either that's it. What about this one? And
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: I don't know whether or not the Bengals would do this.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: I don't know if it technically is more and by
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: the way text of Trags, he said the Bengals might
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: be looking for a first and second or first and third.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: I think that's kind of the point. What if the
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Bengals look at it and say, Okay, Trey Hendrickson in
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: are first for your first, essentially one of those NBA
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: like pick swap trades.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: I don't think they would do that, the Bengals.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: That's what they think of Drake May.
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: I think the Bengals are gonna want are gonna don't
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: want to win that trade vi al inside. I don't
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: think they're gonna do something that would be my offer.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Every looks Trags is there. Trags knows Trags did not
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: think he was going to be traded.
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: I'm not saying that I disagree with Trags. I'm just
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: saying or challenge, you know, the great tracks, challenging his his, uh,
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: his information. I'm just saying, if I was the Patriots,
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: if I was Elliott Wolf, I would pick up the
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: phone and I would say to the Bengals, this is
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: our offer, and I would offer a second, our second
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: round pick in twenty twenty six Kean White, and they
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: can they can pick from, you know, a bile of
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: our corners or defensive backs that we don't really.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: I don't think that gets it done.
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: I don't think it gets it done. If it's the
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: offer I'm.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: Making, Oh, then he's not coming here.
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: So because the other thing, I'm not putting it past
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: some team that's you know again on the line. You know,
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: Eagles of thirty million dollars in cap space.
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: Yeah, because Howie Roseman's a genius, right.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: What's stopping Howie from flipping from college Eagles being like,
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: here's our first Nothing like that makes sense to me.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: Nothing I could see that it would be unfair.
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: So can can I talk about a little bit more
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: of a realistic trade scenarios? Because I know everybody wants
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: to talk Hendrickson and Parsons and McLaurin. There's a some
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: reporting out there, various reports. Now all this scuttle butts
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: starting to reach the surface that the Vikings, the forty
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: nine ers, Yeah, is the third team. There's a third
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: team that are shopping for veteran wide receiver.
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: The Steelers. Steelers, their wide receiver room is not good.
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: I'll figure out, I'll find it. But it was definitely
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: the Vikings in the forty nine ers. I know that
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: those two teams so.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: One of the best coaches in Kyle Shanan.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: The Patriots. The one thing that they might have that
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: might not have a tremendous value. We're not talking about
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: Trede Hendrick sent is Kendrick Bourne. And I wonder if
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: Kendrick Bourne is a potential trade. And I know everybody
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: is saying, well, what are you really going to get
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: back for Kendrick Bourne? Well, isn't there a world where
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: they get the old I always go back to Jacoby
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: Brissett for Philip dor Sat. I don't know why, it's
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: just the trade. I always go back to, Yeah, isn't
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: there a world where they could get they could trade
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: from a position of quote unquote depth with a team
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: that is trying to fill a need and trade from
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: their depth. Let's say, I don't know, just spitballing left
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: guard center in that's your offensive line, even backup tackle,
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: backup tackle. I'm not saying that you're getting a starting
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: caliber player out of one of these teams, but maybe
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: you can get somebody that you like a little bit
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: more than the guys that you have in here At
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: one of those spots for a player like Kendrick Bourne,
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: who if healthy, if he is healthy, can go someplace
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: else and contribute. He can be the third receiver in Minnesota.
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: Right He can fill Jordan Addison's shoes for four weeks
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: until Jordan Addison comes back from that suspension and then
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: be the third receiver in Minnesota. I wonder if maybe that,
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: if we're talking about realistic trades and we're getting rid
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: of the big star names that everybody's bringing up, I
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: feel like the more realistic trade is the Patriots taking
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: a guy like Kendrick Bourne and trading him for to
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: floridify their depth at another position like tackle guard, something
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: like that.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: Real quick on Steel's wide receiver. Yeah, it's not good
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: after DK Metcalf. Yeah, I'm just reading alphabetically here, Calvin Austin,
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Brandon Johnson, Lance McCutcheon, Scottie Miller is still in the league,
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: ben'scronic Keishawn Williams, Roman Wilson, and Robert Woods and they
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: worked out Gave Davis the other day.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: Okay, so the Jets are the third team, which I
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: doubt the Patriots would probably not deal with the Jets.
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: But it's the Jets. This is Diana Russina Jets, forty
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: nine Ers, Vikings Jets.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: I trade Jalen Polk to the Jets.
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: So is there a trade? And you know, just looking
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: at the forty nine ers like offensive line depth chart,
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: there's nothing that like really stands out to me. But
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: is there just a trade with one of those teams
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: the Vikings who you just saw by the right.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: So I want to ask you that because Matt Doloffe
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: actually wrote this morning on ninety eight five the sports
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: sub I noted, I don't I got to pull up
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: the thing here. I apologize, Mat, actually haven't read it yet.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: I was going to do it when I got home,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: he mentioned. He mentioned I usually do it while making dinner.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: He mentions Justin's school scully left tack the backup tackle there.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: They also have. They have a couple, you know, backup
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: left tackles. I think he's the favorite to win the job.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: Maybe not him, but he mentions Walter Rouse as well.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: But any of these guys, Walter Rouse, Justin Schooley, Logan Brown,
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: who I think the Patriots worked out before the draft,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: if I remember correctly, tackle from Kansas. Yeah, we know
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: Bill used to do this right, you go to the
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: joint practice, you see a player you like, you Adam right,
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: did any of the vikings and all open up to
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: guards too, But you were there any of their depth
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: offensive linemen stand out to He was like, yeah, this
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: guy like you kind of made note of him.
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: The one guy that I that has been around and
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: has I believe started some games in this in the
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: league is Blake Brendle, who's a guard, could play left guard.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: He was the starter for them.
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: I don't believe so because they drafted Donovan Jackson. Oh
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: that's right, so I think he's gonna start. But Blake
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: Brendle has been a starter in the past. Like maybe
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: you look at him and say, think that he's better
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: than Ben Brown?
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: Did he have a good week last week?
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: Better than Garrett Bradberry. He's just somebody that I noted
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: on their roster. I'm not going to sit here and
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: say I, like, you know, studied Blake Brendle every second
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: of the practice. But that was I mean the one
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: guy that I went to tackle that was really impressive
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: throughout the entire week. But I assume they're going to
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: keep him. As Elijah Williams the defensive tackle. He had
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: a great game, great practice. He was really disruptive. But
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: I think he's gonna make their roster, and you know,
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: I think he's someone they have plans for.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Well, I mean they the Patriots could use nother defensive tackle. Yeah,
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: pull up a Vikings ross projection. Let's see, is he not?
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: What was his name?
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: Elijah Williams. Yeah, he's He's a good player. He's kind
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: of like a you know, similar body type I would
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: say to like Jeremiah Farms, but maybe a little bit
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: more active than Jeremiah Farms.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: First ross projection. I pulled up the Vikingsage dot com
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: does not have him on.
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: I think he's on.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: But how about the Star Tribune.
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: Uh, let me look up real quick. This is a
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: good rate. This is a good rat.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: Great, just me reading roster projection.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: So Blake Brendle, just to tell you, last year he
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: started seventeen games for the Vikings.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: I thought I was seven. I think he played in seventeen.
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: No, he started seventeen. I'm looking at it right now.
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: Started seventeen games last year. So he's a full time
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: starter for the Vikings last year at left guard. I
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: just wonder if that's like a spot that they look
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: at right, left guard, maybe center, but I think between Wilson, Brown,
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: and Bradbury they probably can find a center out of
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: those three guys. Left guard is maybe the one position
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: that if you can fortify that and then Wilson comes along,
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: maybe a little bit slower, but eventually as your starting
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: center this year. I don't know that's just me spitballing,
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: but I feel like that's if you want to be
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: realistic of like what trade could the Patriots actually make.
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: I feel like that's more in the wheelhouse and not
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: the Micah Parsons Trey Hendrickson splash.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: So for what it's worth having, I just pulled up
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: five roster projections for the Vikings. For them were fan blogs,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: but I didn't find their guy from the athletic. None
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: of them have Elijah Williams making the team.
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: Okay, well, I just maybe I just sniped that maybe
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: you found a guy a lot, but he's a defensive tackle.
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: I don't know if that's necessarily what we all had
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: in mind, but.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: But I mean the Patriots could use some defensive tackle depth.
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, Spencer beaufort Is on the forty nine
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: ers roster. I don't know what's happening with him. You know,
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: Trent Williams is obviously their starting left tackle. But with
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: Trent Williams, he's always in and out, you know, in
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: terms of health and all that kind of stuff. You know,
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: they have to manage him, they don't. They have Matt
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: Hennessy on their roster too, as a backup center who's
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: played a little bit in Atlanta and stuff like that.
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: More of like a zone center, but kind of like
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: a Bradbury. Honestly, it's similar kind of players. But some
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: of those rosters I would look at if I was
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: the Patriots and the Vikings in the forty nine ers
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: call and say, hey, like, what do you want for
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: Kendrick Bourne? I'd want a player.
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm with you.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: Give me a backup player. We'll give you our backup player.
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: Everybody's happy. I'm with you, all right, Let's get back
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: to the calls. Patty is an aguan. What's up, Patty?
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: How good signer for leaving you on hold?
- 1:20:00Speaker 7: That's sorry.
- 1:20:01Speaker 8: I was hoping he'd give me a little bit of
- 1:20:02Speaker 8: a vine too of him, because I got a long
- 1:20:04Speaker 8: way to get to Grahama's house. But I will get
- 1:20:06Speaker 8: to my question. I found it interesting, really interesting yesterday
- 1:20:10Speaker 8: as she started bringing up Drake May and his processing
- 1:20:15Speaker 8: skills on to you and then you know, you had
- 1:20:18Speaker 8: an excellent open and then set the table excellently today
- 1:20:22Speaker 8: because I was gonna call yesterday uh to you and
- 1:20:25Speaker 8: asking that before you even brought it up. And I
- 1:20:28Speaker 8: think a lot of times, you know, us New England fans,
- 1:20:31Speaker 8: maybe the younger ones get a little bit impatient what
- 1:20:34Speaker 8: they've seen over the last few years and don't realize
- 1:20:37Speaker 8: that this kid's going to be twenty three there. I mean,
- 1:20:41Speaker 8: their their roster isn't where it needs to be yet.
- 1:20:44Speaker 8: And if you look at like and Alex you brought
- 1:20:46Speaker 8: this up earlier, look at all these guys that have
- 1:20:48Speaker 8: come into the league mostly like if you, if you've
- 1:20:52Speaker 8: played three to five years in college football and you're good,
- 1:20:56Speaker 8: it's going to translate. I think the one guy beside
- 1:20:59Speaker 8: from May that only played two years in college and
- 1:21:04Speaker 8: came in and has a superpower as Joe Burrow. His
- 1:21:08Speaker 8: processing speed in my opinion and skills is better than
- 1:21:10Speaker 8: anybody's in the NFL's right now. So it's gonna take time.
- 1:21:13Speaker 8: That's that's kind of what I wanted to get at.
- 1:21:15Speaker 8: But my question regarding Drake May and his processing is
- 1:21:21Speaker 8: do you think there's anyway Josh can help him, like
- 1:21:25Speaker 8: pre snap, before the before the sound goes out in
- 1:21:28Speaker 8: his helmet, he says, you know, something like, hey, if
- 1:21:31Speaker 8: they wrote Tate coverage this way, you know, maybe look here,
- 1:21:34Speaker 8: look here, or if they do this, you know, do this.
- 1:21:38Speaker 8: You know, I know it's it's kind of stupid and
- 1:21:41Speaker 8: you know, kind of enough too sway to ask it,
- 1:21:43Speaker 8: but is there anything that Josh can do to help them,
- 1:21:47Speaker 8: you know, help him along the way before he gets
- 1:21:50Speaker 8: really good at reading defenses. And that's all I got.
- 1:21:52Speaker 8: I'll take it out there, guys.
- 1:21:53Speaker 3: Yeah, Patty absolutely, but I talked about that on the broadcast. Yeah,
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: but I do think that some somewhat of his a
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: slippery slope because you don't want to put too much
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: information in his head, right, So yeah, but I you know,
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: I'm not saying that Josh doing that. I'm just saying like,
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: at some point he's got to play well.
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: So this is what McVeigh did. McVeigh would be in.
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: High to the Patriots combat that they spun it.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: They just waited till that fifteen second mark hit and
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: then they did everything. But yeah, no, he can be
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: in his ear saying check this, watch that. Like Evan said,
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: it's a fine line. You want to help him out,
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: but at a certain point you want to take the
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: training wheels off. And you know, teams may wait until
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: after that fifteen second mark when the head set shuts off,
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: to really declare what they're doing defensively, So you don't
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: want to solely rely on that. But Josh can do that.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: And so what I was referencing from the broadcast Drake May.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: I think it was Drake may Wright or was it
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: McDaniels who had told him. No, was Drake may told
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: Zoe in a production meeting that McDaniels in his headset
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: much more than Alex van Pelt was last year. Van
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: pell would basically read the play and be done with it.
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: Now those plays are much longer. I don't know how
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: much more time they had, but McVeigh would not McVeigh
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: Van Pelt would would read the plane and be done
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: with it. He didn't say what else McDaniels is saying,
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: but he said McDaniels is basically in his ear up
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: to that fifteen second park. So I do think there
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: was some of that going on.
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: Yeah, no, And I think that can be really valuable.
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: And like to Patty's point, it might be something like,
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: I'm gonna trust you to read the initial coverage of
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: what the shell that they're in, but just in the
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: back of your mind, like, okay, it's third and six,
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: and situationally, from a tendency standpoint, Brian Flores really likes
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: cover two in third and six, Like that's just a
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: coverage that they really like at this down and distance.
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: These are all things that NFL coaching staffs scout ahead
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: of time, is down in distance, situational tendencies, like what
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: are the teams like to play in these situations? So
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: maybe they get to the line of scrimmage and you know,
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: they're looking out at it and Josh McDaniels is like, huh,
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: that looks like it's this, but I know that they
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: actually really like to play man in this situation even
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: though this looks like zone. And he could say to Drake, hey,
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: just just keep in the back of your mind that
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: this could be this could be man, right right. That
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: type of thing absolutely could be helpful and hopefully that
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: is where they get to it. So I'm interested to
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: see where that relationship goes, because I think that was
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: a really good story that they told on the broadcast, which,
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: by the way, just quick aside. I don't watch a
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: lot of the game broadcasts, Humble Breck, but I was
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: home for the game on Saturday because I was doing
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: the our pre and post game show instead. They did
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: a great job, Zoe and the McCarty's, I think are great.
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: It's not the traditional play by play color guy, but
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: their insight into breaking down the game is especially the McCarty's,
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: Like the thing that I think it was Devin. Sorry,
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: I sometimes it's hard to tell which one is Devin,
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: which one's Jason, just by their voice. But Devin was
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: talking about the quarterback can like place the ball in
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: a certain spot to force the receiver to turn that
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: way because like he can see the receiver's back as
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: to the defense, but the quarterback can see it. You
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: can see where the space is in the defense. So
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: he's talking about how Dobbs put the ball on Chisholm's
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: inside hip and Chishms spun outside, and he was like,
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: I bet you Dobbs wanted him to spin inside. Like
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: just little insights like that we're really really good on
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: the broadcast. I think this says pc P seas in Virginia.
- 1:25:18Speaker 4: What's up, hello, guys.
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: I want to make sure you got to Henry before
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: I start talking to you.
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you're good.
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: Okay, okay. The thing is like lot you want at
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: the same time making excuses about, you know, by Drake
- 1:25:31Speaker 5: May's you know time in college and this and that
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: and the third. But the thing about it is that
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: this team, the progress is going to hinge on his
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: ability to dover the ball accurately and be able to
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: read the field. Because even with some of these teams
- 1:25:44Speaker 5: that you guys attend to old rape far as the
- 1:25:46Speaker 5: so called contenders or contenters whatever, they're pretty much in
- 1:25:49Speaker 5: the same but as New England right now. I mean,
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: like I say that they don't have world beats an
- 1:25:53Speaker 5: office line, they don't have World beats a receiver a
- 1:25:56Speaker 5: couple of teams do, but they able but their corta,
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: they're able to deliver the ball and the field well
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: enough to keep it pushing like New England is right now.
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: And that that's different because if you've stacked roster or whatever,
- 1:26:09Speaker 5: and it's not too much different. But these other teams,
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: the players. You really actually have some players out to
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: ask compete. Now, I'm like, you know, you know, that's
- 1:26:15Speaker 5: what we have to say that for the first time
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: in the last four years. So Drinke May does better
- 1:26:21Speaker 5: at those things, those some of those things they think
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: you have to compete taking compete well.
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: And if he does better those of those things, Yeah,
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: thanks for the call, PC. I think I got most
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: of that. I think that. Look, I'm not trying to
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: make excuses for Drake May. I'm not trying to excuse him.
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: Like we broke down the entire game and the things
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: that went wrong for him in that game. So I'm
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: not trying to excuse him. All I'm telling you is
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: is that you got to be a little bit patient,
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: Like we got to give this a little bit of
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: time before we start making declarations. Is he or isn't
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: he the guy? Or you know, is he or isn't
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: he a killer? Is he or isn't he clutch? Like
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: I hear all these things. We talked about the whole
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: clutch thing yesterday, and this is going to gets bogged
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: down if I go on this direction. But I'm going
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: to go there anyways, about like clutch and you know
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: the nerds and clutch doesn't exist, and so they they
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: were teasing me about that, and like all these different
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: types of thing, think it exists. I do, but I'm
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: probably a little bit more reluctant than you want me
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: to be about it. I can't grow up in I.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: Mean, I was gonna say, you watched Tom Brady for
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: how many years?
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: I can't grow up in an era of Boston sports
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: with David Ortiz and Tom Brady and think that clutch.
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: Seen that video of the Oklahoma State to you ever
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: seen that video of the Oklahoma State quarterback? I forget
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: They're on the road somewhere. There's like two minutes ago,
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: it's a close game. He's taking the shotgun snap and
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: you can literally see his hands shaking. Yes, you ever
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: seen that? Watch that and tell me clutch doesn't exist.
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: Some people are built for it mentally, other people's aren't.
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: You can't qualify that, you can't quantify that.
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: I know, I'm not arguing with you.
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: Only thing that I brought up, and you know this
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: is a bigger thing that I really didn't want to
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: do today, but whatever, the only thing that I brought
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: up was that the athletes of today, the modern athlete.
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: And I do this all the time, and I brought
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: him up yesterday. I do this all the time with
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: Jason Tatum, who you know, I would go to bat
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: four any day of the week. Where Jason Tatum, the
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: same way as a lot of athletes nowadays, gets labeled
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: as somebody that's not that alpha, that's not that competitive,
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: you know, uh, you know, hates to lose so bad
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: that he you know, is maniacal. He's not clutch. I
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: hear that all the time, right about Jason Tatum. He's
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: not clutch. You don't trust him late in games, like
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: all this type of stuff. I think you hear it
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: a little bit, you know, maybe not as loudly, but
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: a little bit about like a like a David Pasternak, right,
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: like he's not he's a great player, but he's like
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: a winning player, right, these types of things. And I
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: just my whole thing about Dot Combat, Yeah, my whole
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: thing is is just like maybe that's just not how
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: a lot of these kids are wired, and maybe we
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: just kind of have to give up on the Brady's
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: and the Jordans and like the maniacal competitors like I
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: think Mahomes is probably the closest thing that we have.
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: Burrow certainly has it, Yeah, but it's really not you know,
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: Lamar gets gets you know, brated for this all the
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: time that he doesn't have the winning gene.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: Josh Allen doesn't. But how's he done late in some
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: of these playoff games.
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: So I just say, like, let's just give it time.
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: Let's give Drake some grace, Let's give it time. Let's
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: not get impatient with his development. If we're still talking
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: about all these different things and all these issues in
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: these peaks and valleys and these inconsistencies at this time
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: next year, then we can start having the real conversation
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: of whether or not he's the guy or not. He
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: gets three years. In my mind, he has three years
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: to make it happen, because then you have to make
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: a decision on the fifth year option, you have to
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: start contract starts to matter. So in my mind, he
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: gets three years. I'm giving him this entire year as
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: a developmental year. Once we get into next season and
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: we are in this spot next season, sorry, if he
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: doesn't start to show that he's rounding out and the
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: consistency is leveling off, then we can start to have
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: these other conversations. Until then, it's way too ear in
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: my mind.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, like he's got to show some progress
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: this year.
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a developmental year.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: Got to go up, He's got to go up. But yeah,
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: it's you know, usually midway through year two you kind
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: of have an idea because you got to decide when
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: you want to start doing work on the quarterback last.
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, let's take Sean and Vancouver. What's up Sean?
- 1:30:20Speaker 9: Hey, guys, Yeah, you were talking about chism earlier, but
- 1:30:23Speaker 9: I want to go a little deeper in terms of
- 1:30:26Speaker 9: predicting where he's going to be. I mean, I see
- 1:30:29Speaker 9: like a ceiling as the twenty thirteen Patriots with Edelman
- 1:30:34Speaker 9: and Amadola, And in that season, Amadola was second on
- 1:30:40Speaker 9: the team to Edelman in terms of receiving yards. I
- 1:30:43Speaker 9: don't know if that's too crazy to even put as
- 1:30:47Speaker 9: a ceiling for a guy who's, you know, an undrafted rookie. Now,
- 1:30:52Speaker 9: do you do you see him like as being the
- 1:30:55Speaker 9: sixth receiver when he makes a team, or do you
- 1:30:57Speaker 9: think he's moved ahead of Boudet and and and maybe
- 1:31:01Speaker 9: even mac mccollins seems like he's playing really well and
- 1:31:05Speaker 9: it's really import next. So do you see that Josh
- 1:31:08Speaker 9: bringing in that same kind of plan where you're using
- 1:31:11Speaker 9: the players like him and Pop on the field at
- 1:31:14Speaker 9: the same time. Where where do you think it'll go?
- 1:31:18Speaker 9: All right, I'll leave it.
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: With that, thanks, Sean. I think we could get there.
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: I think we're still a little bit early, is what.
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: I mean by not getting heead of it, And yes,
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: it is exactly what I was talking about. So Danny
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: and Mondola is a five year NFL VET, big free
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: agency at that point, playing an offense that also included
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: Rob Gronkowski playing for Tom Brady or with Tom Brady,
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: and by the way, second on the team in terms
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: of pass catching fifty four catches, six hundred yards, like
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: that's don't be wrong. It's a solid year, but that's
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: not ipop that's not usually your second receiver. Just all
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: ran through Edelman that year. That's too high a ceiling.
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: That's too high of a ceiling. He hasn't pought passed
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: Kishon Boody, he hasn't passed mccollins because he's not he
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: hasn't Like we're watching them in practice, he's not out
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: there within.
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: He's very much.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: Barely he's a nice has he caught a pass from
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: Drake May I think this summer, but it's we can
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: count on the elevens and I think you got them
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: on one finger if there is one. And I don't
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: mean to disparage the kid again, he's been great, but
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: and I feel like we do this at times, and
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: I've been guilty of this because we're not talking about
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: the top of the depth chart this time of year,
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: last week and a half, the preseasons all about the
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: bubble unless there's like left guards different because there's two
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: guys battling for a starting job. We're not talking about
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: the guys that are entrenched in their positions. We did
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: that at the start of camp. We gave Kaishun Booty
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: a ton of flowers for the progress he's made and
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: continues to make. We covered that it happened he's going
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: to be one of their top receivers. There's not much
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: new there to talk about. We've moved on to talking
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: about the bottom of the depth chart. If Fton Chishen
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: was going to pass Kaishon, Boody and mac hollins, we'd
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: have seen the evidence of it. Because he would have
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: passed them in terms of reps, like, that's literally what
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: that is. Mac Hollins is out there getting as many
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: reps as anybody. Kaishon Booty is still out there consistently.
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: So Chisholm is a good developmental player. I think there
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: might be a couple of packages for him in the offense.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: I don't think you won't see him him being a
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: featured player. I want to pull up with Danny A.
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: Mondola's snap percentage was that year if I can find it, Like,
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: I don't know for me, Chisholm, if he's around twenty percent,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: I think that's a good number. Danny Mandola was on
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: the field sixty two percent of the time for the
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: Patriots that season, im pending injuries. I don't see Chishm
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: getting there this year.
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: Again, the role. When I talk about him in that role,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: I mean, like how you're designing the plays for him.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: It doesn't mean that you're gonna call that plays at
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: those plays at that rate right away.
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: He is on the team, He's made the team. We've
- 1:33:41Speaker 3: both of us feel that way. But yeah, and barring
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: an injury, I would say to probably both Diggs and
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: Pop Douglas because to me, that's really what this is.
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: Like Diggs, I think, is going to be your your
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: starting Z or your primary zer receiver, and then Pop
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: is going to be like a Z slot. And so
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: in order for Afton Chisen to play, it significant the
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: mat where we can start talking about him having actual
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: volume stats, like he's gonna have to get on in
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: the field over those two guys, which is only happening
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: if there's an injury. Yeah, so if Pop gets hurt,
- 1:34:15Speaker 3: then there's probably more one for one there with Chishm
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: to get playing time. Diggs, I think is a little
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: bit of a different thing, like Digg's gonna play a
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: lot on the outside. I don't think Chishm's playing on
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: the outside.
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: Diggs gets hurt, I think that probably means either more
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: of Hollands and Booty on the field together or maybe
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: that's where more Kyle Williams Kyle come in, right, yeah.
- 1:34:34Speaker 3: Right, So I think that it's really Pop and if
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: Pop gets hurt, knock on wood that he doesn't, but
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: if he does, then maybe there's a path for Fton
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: Chisen to play. And that happened for Edelman like that
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: Welker got hurt and Edelman played, so that that happened
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: for for Edelman, so it's not totally out of the
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: realm of possibility, but we hope that doesn't happen. And injury.
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: Ronk got hurt in thirteen, right, and that allowed them
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: they because of that, they play more left in Edling
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: a lot more time on this.
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: So I want to get to a preview sort of
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: preview slash bubble talk here in a second, but the
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: calls are just rolling. Take a few more. Brad is
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: in Ohio. What's up, Brad?
- 1:35:13Speaker 7: Hey, how you guys doing today?
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: Good?
- 1:35:16Speaker 4: Good?
- 1:35:17Speaker 7: Uh, just a couple of questions I have for you
- 1:35:19Speaker 7: and stuff I've heard each of you talk about in
- 1:35:22Speaker 7: the past, and and just an observation that in my opinion,
- 1:35:27Speaker 7: Drake mays an a plus D pastor when Brady was
- 1:35:31Speaker 7: a B plus. And so that's that, I mean, it's
- 1:35:34Speaker 7: just my take of you know, long life Patriot fans.
- 1:35:38Speaker 7: And so that being said, if we take Josh McDaniel's offense,
- 1:35:44Speaker 7: and and Evan's even mentioned this about shorter receivers running
- 1:35:48Speaker 7: over the middle like deep overs, it seems Drake struggles
- 1:35:52Speaker 7: with those kind of plays. Can we like, do you
- 1:35:56Speaker 7: think McDaniels can tailor the offense and become more vertical,
- 1:36:01Speaker 7: given the wide receivers would allow him to do that
- 1:36:04Speaker 7: throughout the season and use more different route concepts to
- 1:36:09Speaker 7: be different than a Brady type offense that you know,
- 1:36:13Speaker 7: was basically.
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: A lot of over the middle.
- 1:36:15Speaker 7: Brady was the best at that and Drake struggles with it.
- 1:36:19Speaker 7: So what do you guys think about that?
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: Thank you, Yeah, thanks for the call, Brad. So I
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: do think that there were iterations of the Brady offense
- 1:36:26Speaker 3: that were more down the field. So obviously with Randy
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: Moss was here, but even like in twenty seventeen with
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: Brandon Cooks, they added a more vertical element to the
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: passing game. So I think there were and we've talked
- 1:36:37Speaker 3: about Kyle Williams Brandon Cooks like that sort of being
- 1:36:41Speaker 3: an overlap in terms of usage of the routes that
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: they were going to have Kyle Williams run. I still
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: kind of feel that way that there could be some
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: overlap there if you go back to seventeen Cooks. I
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: brought up the size thing yesterday on PU with Pop
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: because if you're going to target a receiver down the field,
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: you know ten fifteen twenty plus yards down the field,
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: that's five foot eight. Like, that's that's not a very
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: big target to hit, right, it's a smaller catch radius
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: to hit. Not to mention, even if you're putting some
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: air under it, like is he gonna be able to
- 1:37:13Speaker 3: go above and win the ball and you're not gonna
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: throw a jump ball to Pop Douglas. That's the point
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: I was making. The one thing that I would say,
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: because I think Pop has nine things over Efton Chism.
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: I think he's faster, I think he's quicker. I think
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: he's more dynamic with the ball in his hands. The
- 1:37:30Speaker 3: one thing that I would say that Efton Chism has
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: is a little bit more size. He's a little bit
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: of a bigger target than Pop Douglas is. So it's
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: not nothing I do. I've noticed that the last two years,
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: this year in camp and then last year at times
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: with Pop, like there would just be throws with Pop
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: that were just a little too far in front or
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: a little bit too far ahead of, you know, over
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: his head. It was just these little like little ball
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: placement things that Yeah, it could have been communication, it
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: could have been you know, this route was breaking at
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: five steps and he broke it at three or these
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: little minutias that they coaching staff last year brought up
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: at times with pop. But I also think an element
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: of it is that he's five foot eight and he
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: just doesn't have a great catch radius. You know, He's
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: just not a very big target down the field. So
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: that that's part of it. Now, that's not really a
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: big concern when you start talking about first level targets.
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: It's just when you start to work your way down
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: the field. You know, when he's winning on a linebacker,
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: you know, splitting the safeties in cover two and he's
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: winning a foot racer with the linebacker, but it's going
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: to be like a forty yard bomb into the end zone.
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: Like that's a little bit of a harder throw to
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: make when you don't have somebody that you can trust
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: to go up and win the ball. So it's just
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: a little thing that I've noticed. It's not like anything major,
- 1:38:46Speaker 3: But hopefully that answered the question. All right, A last
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: call here that I want to get to our preview
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: of tomorrow night Z is in Western mass what's ups hi?
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: How you guys doing. I'm just mad at everybody. Why
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: did everybody have to get on Drake May when Rabel
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: didn't you know, why didn't he do the same thing
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: as the Vikings in Chicago did? What's their offensive That's
- 1:39:11Speaker 4: all I got to say, thank you?
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: Okay. So I think as he's saying that they make
- 1:39:15Speaker 3: enough improvements on the offensive.
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: Line, I don't know that or if he wants the
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: you know.
- 1:39:20Speaker 3: The blame to go to the offensive line or well.
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: Or did he mean like hiring Ben Johnson in Chicago,
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: maybe they could have done more for their offensive line. Yeah.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: I think we said that at the time. The unit
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: is what is at this point.
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: I think they could have done one thing more and
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: I think that that would which is something we banged
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: the table for on this show, which was signing a
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: veteran left.
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: Guard or trading for Joe Toney.
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: Yeah, but like I get, like, Joe Toney is a
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: twenty million dollar a year player, So like that, if
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: you're if you're trading for Joe's if you're trading Joe Tuney, though,
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: then you're you're taking somebody else that you signed off
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: the roster. This is how it works. Like you know
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: that you're not going to just show out. It's not
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: like they could have had Joe Toney and right like
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: it was going to be Joe Toney in.
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: This case, I think they could have In this case,
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: I think they could have.
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: All I was all I wanted out of left guard
- 1:40:07Speaker 3: was the Morgan Moses of left guards, Like who is
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: the veteran left guard on the market that you can
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: sign to a one or two year deal to hold
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: down the position for twenty twenty five as you start
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: to develop some of the depth and some of the
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: draft picks that you've made on the interier Jared Wilson,
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: Leaden Robinson, Kayden Wallace, like, whatever the case may be,
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: they didn't do that. So if you want to second
- 1:40:28Speaker 3: guess them on the left guard spot, that's why I
- 1:40:30Speaker 3: brought it up as potentially trading for one at this
- 1:40:33Speaker 3: time of.
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: Year or and I want to make sure my take
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: doesn't get misconstrued. How I say this. I like Jared Wilson,
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: I like to pick. I think Jared Wilson's their center
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: of the future. I think drafting him made a ton
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: of sense if they're gonna play him at center, if
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: they knew they were going to be so locked in
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: on Gear Bradbury, and maybe that's ultimately won't be the case.
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: Like this is why this is a weird take, but
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: like from what we've seen, it's been a ton of
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: gear Bradberry at center. If they knew, look, we can't
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: have a rookie center, we need a veteran and Garrett's
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: gonna be the guy. Maybe taking a guard there instead.
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: But I like they took Jared Wilson. I would just
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: like to see them play him at his natural position.
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: They feel like he can get what I'm saying, Like,
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: I'm not saying that Jared Wilson was a bad pick,
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: but so I asked Doug Moroun when we had the
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: offensive coaches and not the defense. But the response that
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: he had to my question about playing Jared Wilson at
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: guard was that Jared Wilson swung at both guards, as
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: he's like to say, plays both guard spots and practice
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: at Georgia, and given the fact that he was going
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: up against Jalen Carter and all those Jordan Davis and
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: all these beasts at Georgia on the defensive line every day,
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: they felt like he had enough reps and was battle
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: tested enough at guard to maybe play guard and flex
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: the guard even though he didn't play guard in a
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: game at Georgia. I'm with you, though, like I think
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: that that's it's different. It's different to do it in
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: practice again on the scout team, compared to doing it
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: in a game, even at the college level.
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: That's different. So that was sort of what the answer
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: that he gave me. But I hear I would have personally,
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: I would have signed Like I said, I would have
- 1:42:03Speaker 3: gone out and signed them. Morgan Moses have left guards.
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: I would have plugged him in at left guard for
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: the year. I would have trained Garrett Wilson or Caro
- 1:42:11Speaker 3: Wilson Jared Wilson at center, and hopefully halfway through this season,
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: Jared Wilson's your center. You have a stop gap left guard,
- 1:42:21Speaker 3: and the next offseason you go back into the well
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: to find a true left guard of the future. Yeah,
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: that was the one second guest that you have now
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: to me though, like as much as we can second
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: guess them on that, you also have to give them
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: credit for signing Morgan Moses and drafting Bill Campbell because
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: the one thing we haven't talked about is tackle.
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: I mean, we've we said this going to the off season,
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: they were not gonna be able to fix the entire
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: line in one year, and we knew that.
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: Frankly, if the one spot that they couldn't fix was
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: left guard, I'd rather be left guard than left tackle.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: Yes, But the fact it's now becoming both left guard
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: and centers, what's a little worrying to me?
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree with you there, No, it's the interior.
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: It's funny. And we were harping tackle tackle tackle, Well
- 1:43:00Speaker 3: they did, you know, sign one and draft one at
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: tackle that. Oh we actually got Soto. Why did that
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: not hit me? We finally got so that kind of
- 1:43:07Speaker 3: stabilized that for the time being. And now all of
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: a sudden, all the problems are happening in the ind here.
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: So it just moves aloud. All right, let's talk bubble,
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: Let's talk tomorrow night against the Giants. Last fifteen minutes here.
- 1:43:19Speaker 3: I want to read this email really quickly because I
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: think this sets up the conversation. Not well, this is.
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: The YouTube chat. Seems to think we have a bunch
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: of good emails.
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: Okay, sure, this is from Ben and North andover. He
- 1:43:30Speaker 3: has some like roster clarification questions which I think are
- 1:43:33Speaker 3: important for this conversation. So the emergency third quarterback. I'll
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: just sum it up here. You cannot use the practice
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: squad elevation to make the quarterback eligible. Correct. That is correct.
- 1:43:44Speaker 3: In order to make the third quarterback active on game
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: day or designate him, I should say on game day,
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: he has to be on your fifty three man round. No,
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: it didn't change.
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: No.
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: I think where it changed was they.
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: Proposed it and it didn't change. I've clarified, have you.
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: Okay? I thought you couldn't name a practice squad player
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: the emergency third QB, but if you elevate the quarterback
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: from the practice squad, you could.
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: Then name him. That was the proposal.
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: That was the proposal got town.
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: It didn't get past yet. Okay, it's still in the
- 1:44:14Speaker 3: in the ether. So as of right now.
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: Here, this is from last year. Nfl PA vetos Emergency
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: third Quarterback rules is NFL dot com vetos. You said
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: the word veto right, so let me read it. The
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: NFLPA next a league wide, a league approved rule allowing
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: an emergency third quarterback to come from the practice squad
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: with unlimited call ups. The rule averts the twenty twenty
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: three parameters, which states that an emergency third QB must
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: be on the fifty three man roster or as one
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: of two standard elevations for the week. An elevated QB
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: would have to be activated. Oh, would have to be active. Okay,
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: so I get what it's saying.
- 1:44:50Speaker 3: Wait what I'm telling you that you can't you can't
- 1:44:53Speaker 3: do it.
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: I'm an elevated QB. But this contradicted.
- 1:44:57Speaker 3: I know it's I know, I know. Can we just
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: move on? They would have to carry three quarterbacks on
- 1:45:04Speaker 3: the roster. I'm telling you they would have to carry three.
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: I'm moving on to the second question, the IR designated
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: to return question that we get.
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: A lot, so I understand this one.
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: On roster cutdown day, you can place players on injured
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: reserve designated to return on cutdown day when you hand
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: in the packet to the league. Of these are this
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: is how we got down to fifty three players on
- 1:45:31Speaker 3: that transaction wire, you have to say, I'm just using
- 1:45:35Speaker 3: him as an example. Kendrick Bourne is on injured reserve
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: designated to return on cutdown Day, so Brock Lampy is
- 1:45:42Speaker 3: not eligible for this. Kendrick Bourne, if they decide to
- 1:45:46Speaker 3: IR him on Tuesday and part of the roster transactions,
- 1:45:50Speaker 3: is eligible.
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: So the way it works is it's not all right,
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: we're gonna put five guys on IR and then we'll
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: decide which two are coming back. Like you get two guys,
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: you specifically say that guy's coming back, and like you said,
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: it has to be on cutdown day. So anybody that's
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: already been placed on IR is not eligible. I think
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: they have. And I don't know the exact injury status
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: of these players, but based on what we've seen, I
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: think it's pretty clear cut that there were two guys
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: who qualify. It's Kendrick Bourn and Jelawney to buy right,
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: But you have to carry that player on the ninety
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: through two cutting down day. You can't.
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: It can't be brock Lampy. Uh, they play somebody else.
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: It can't be Isaiah. I think it can't be. It
- 1:46:27Speaker 3: can't be one of these other.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: I think you can designate guys earlier, but you have
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: to designate them when you place them. I don't think that, oh,
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: it has to be that way because it's literally a transaction.
- 1:46:37Speaker 3: Like think about it as like this is processing through the.
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: League today, so it'll be the And again, it's not
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: you can't name five guys all right, Well, we're gonna
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: put Born to buy Polk Baker. Who else is hurt
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: like Williams? Right, We're gonna put those five guys on
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: and then we'll decide when we get into the year
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: which two we want to pack. No, it's it's two guys.
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: So I forgot about Kyle Williams when I said that.
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: I really hope Kyle Williams is not going to miss
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: significant time. Even if he's gonna miss two games. We've
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: seen what missing. He'd essentially missed two months because it
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: would be from when he got hurt, and then I
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: think would be three weeks before the first game, right
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: from when he got hurt. Yeah, and then he'd missed
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: the first four weeks of the regular season.
- 1:47:15Speaker 3: I don't think that this is I have no information.
- 1:47:17Speaker 3: I just I don't think we're there. Okay, good, I
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: be Born and Tabaya the two.
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: Right, I think those are the two guys that make
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: the most Okay.
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: So with that being said, ending obviously, tomorrow, you posted
- 1:47:27Speaker 3: something about your bubble. Yeah, you have a nineteen player bubble,
- 1:47:30Speaker 3: which I think says a lot about kind of where
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: we're at right now with this roster. There's like when
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: I did my like, you know, roster projection unofficial. I
- 1:47:41Speaker 3: had like forty three or forty four guys that I
- 1:47:44Speaker 3: felt like really needed to be on the team, and
- 1:47:46Speaker 3: then I had eight or nine spots that I think
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: were totally kind of up in the air.
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's where I'm at, exactly. No, I'm saying, Okay,
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: I thought you met that last year. Last year, So
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: that's where it really but go ahead. So well, the
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: philosophy behind it, if for those who haven't listened to
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: the show before, is basically doing a roster projection the
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: same way, not you pick the bracket like pick your winners,
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: but the way March Madness puts the bracket together, because
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: it's not the bet was now sixty eight. It's too
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: many times it's not the best sixty eight teams in
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: the country because, for instance, the champion of the A
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: Sun may not be a better team than like the
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: seventh best team in the in the Big East. But
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: there are spots reserve for the conference winners, right, so
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: every team And yeah, the practice squad elevations leave a
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: little bit of gray area here, but there's less flexibility
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: with that than people think. For the vast majority every
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: team is going to keep at least two quarterbacks. Every
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: ting's going to keep at least three running backs, four
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: wide receivers, on and on and on, right, So when
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: you chop those out, that gives you fourteens going across
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: the league. Like using positional minimums, that basically gives you
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: fourteen spots that can be won by the best player left.
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: But that number then on and that's league wide. That
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: number on a team to team base comes down further because,
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: for instance, four ride receivers is the minimum. The Patriots
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: have five six roster locks. If we're gonna count Afton Chisholm, right,
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: you know, it doesn't count if you keep a fallback,
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: it doesn't count if there's like a Matthew Seedter Slater
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: special teams like guy who's not gonna count against that
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: wide receiver minimum. So every year that number changed it
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: a little bit. Last year I had the Patriots with
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: eleven at large spots. Yeah, eleven or twelve. I think
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: there were some guys that were on the fence with
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: ir This year I have them with ten at large spots.
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: And then the flip side of that is, okay, how
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: many people are competing for those spots because you might
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: have guys like again, is Josh Dobbs, one of the
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: fifty three best players on the Patriots, might not be
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: he's gonna be on the roster right. Jeremiah farm is
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: another guy I consider a roster lock, just because I
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: don't think they have enough defensive tackles without him. If
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: Isaiah Eiden had been healthy, I probably would have put
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: them both on the bubble and opened up that spot.
- 1:49:55Speaker 3: So it's not to cut you off just we have
- 1:49:58Speaker 3: so read nineteen.
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: The point I'm making is there's players who are on
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: the bubble who aren't on here because they're either gonna
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: make it as a part of their position to get
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: to the minimum or they're not. They're competing against the
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: other players at the position. These guys are all essentially
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: competing against each other. Okay, the bubble to me is
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: Jamichael Hasty, Terrell Jennings, Kendrick Bourne if he doesn't go on,
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: Ir Jay von Baker, Vederian Lowe, Cole Strange, Caden Wallace,
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: City so Tyres Robinson, Anthony Jennings, Truman Jones, Elijah Ponder,
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: Jelani Tavai, Monty, Rice Miles, Battle, Jordan Polk, Kyle Duggar,
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: Dell Penneth Pettis, and Marcus Apps.
- 1:50:35Speaker 3: Yeah, so I had a bunch of the same.
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: Let me just clarify this too.
- 1:50:39Speaker 3: That's a lot of names we just threw at you.
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: So Hasty and Jennings aren't both gonna make the team, right, right?
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: The one one might make it, they both might not
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: make it. Same with the offensive line, So some guys
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: have better chances than others. But that's what I have
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: as the bubble. And like John Parker, Romo right not
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: on there because he's either gonna make it or not.
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: They're not going to keep two kickers.
- 1:50:56Speaker 3: So I didn't I didn't do I looked at my
- 1:50:59Speaker 3: own list before I looked at your list. My list
- 1:51:01Speaker 3: is a little bit smaller just because yeah whatever, I
- 1:51:04Speaker 3: kind of did it off the top of my head.
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: Did you have more roster locks or did you just
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: knock count as many guys on the bable.
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: I just didn't count as many in the bubble. So
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: I had Dugger, Jennings, Baker, Low Strange, Wallace, and then
- 1:51:19Speaker 3: I had a couple of rookies like Farmer, Swinson, Ponder.
- 1:51:23Speaker 3: I think that they're going to probably keep all three
- 1:51:26Speaker 3: of those guys.
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: Farmer and Swinston, I feel comfortable saying our locks.
- 1:51:30Speaker 3: I don't know. And then I also put you know,
- 1:51:32Speaker 3: Born into Vibe Slash, Ir Cole and I are here
- 1:51:36Speaker 3: as well. Uh, you know, DJ James probably on the
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: team because they just need the fifth cornerback spot and
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: he is the fifth corner.
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: Right, So that's where you get into he like, he's
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: not a lock in terms of he's going to start,
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: but because they need X number of corners just to
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: fill out the roster, you don't put him on the bubble.
- 1:51:55Speaker 3: So out of your group, out of this group, who
- 1:51:59Speaker 3: who can really like who has the most to win?
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: Who is the most approved Tomorrow night? But against the.
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: Giants, just looking down my list, I think Jamichael Hasty
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: can kind of solidify his spot if he's solid.
- 1:52:09Speaker 3: He's a nice little player, Like I know, he's nothing
- 1:52:12Speaker 3: flashy or special, but.
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: He's a good special team player. He's a good special
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: teams player. He's a multifaceted running back. He's not necessarily
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: amazing at at anything, but you can put him in
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: any situation. He can be a multi positional backup or
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: multi roll backup for running backs. Yah if rom Andre
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: Stevenson's banged up a little bit, which we know he is.
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: He's in a non contact jersey of practice. You probably
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: want to keep four backs. Hasty is gonna play in
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: the kicking game like I have him on. I had
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: him on my last ross projection. Most to win, just
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: going down my list, Javon Baker obviously a ton any
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: of the Lineman, Cole Strange, Kiten Wallas City. So Tyre's
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: Robinson not in uh five here, low Strange wall is
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: so Robinson. You're not gonna have all five of those
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: guys make it. I don't think all five of those
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: guys are gonna miss it either. We're gonna have a
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: couple of those guys. It's basically who is it, who performs?
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: Who you know? I think Truman Jones, Elijah Ponder in
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: good spots, Jordan Polk Like to your point, you kind
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: of put DJ James on by default. I guess I
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: throw Miles Battle in here too. But I think the
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: interesting thing with Polk is if they're gonna cut Dougger,
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: I'm uneasy about them keeping for safeties, and and that's
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: for safeties. I gotta double check my ross rerection. I
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: think that's for safeties with schooler right, so.
- 1:53:26Speaker 3: That no, it would be yeah, yeah, for safeties with.
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: Schooler Hawkins, Pepper, Schooler Woodson. If they don't keep Doug.
- 1:53:33Speaker 3: This is my point, like when I was doing the
- 1:53:35Speaker 3: roster projection yesterday, Like Kyle Duggar, unless you find a
- 1:53:39Speaker 3: trade partner for him, it's kind of hard to keep
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: him off, like just you know, like just unless he's going.
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: To be a problem in the room, b I, if
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: he's a backup. But like, so that's where del Pettis,
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: Marcus Apps, Jordan Polk, right, there's a safety spot to
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: be won there. Now that might be a spot. This
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: is where and anytime I explained the positional minimums people
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: shoot back. Will he kept one quarterback in twenty twenty
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: one because these are practice squad elevation?
- 1:54:02Speaker 3: Still crazy, don't you can't go back?
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: Well, del Pettis is a guy. Maybe they could get
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: to the practice squad initially, elevate for a couple games,
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: and then sign to the roster. So but like you
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: want to make the case if you're del Pettis or
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: your Marcus Epps or you're Jordan Polk, like they probably
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: should look to keep a fifth safety. And maybe it's
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: not initially, but let's not forget that the roster. Let's
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: not forget the roster doesn't lock in week one. They
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: have a good game and they look at it and say,
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: all right, we're gonna put him on the practice squad.
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: But like, once the spot opens up, this is the
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: first guy that's getting signed. That's not nothing either. So
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: I think any of the safeties with Dougger, they're gonna
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: have to sign it. If they move on from Doug,
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: or they're gonna have to sign a safety at some point.
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: Maybe they keep Maybe they keep five initially and that's it,
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: but if they keep four, it's not gonna stay that way.
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: They're gonna have to add another at some point.
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: Maybe maybe they keep Epps. They seem to like apps.
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: They do seem to like apps. But if your EPs
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: aor Doug, if you're EPs or Pettis, maybe that's making
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: that case that Okay, we're not gonna keep you on
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: the initial fifty three, but if you come back on
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: the practice squad, you know, first spot we get, you're
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: gonna be the guy that we signed.
- 1:55:04Speaker 3: So the I agree with you, safety is a spot
- 1:55:08Speaker 3: that's still kind of uncertain. And then the other one,
- 1:55:10Speaker 3: like you mentioned, is those backup offensive linemen like you
- 1:55:12Speaker 3: had a Vederian Low, Cole Strange, Caden Wallace, Leyden Robinson,
- 1:55:17Speaker 3: Tyres Robinson. If you want to throw him in there,
- 1:55:19Speaker 3: you know how many of those guys do they keep?
- 1:55:22Speaker 3: How do they keep any of them? Do they keep
- 1:55:24Speaker 3: a slew of them?
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: I think they have to keep at least one or
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: two of them, because without any of those guys, they're
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: at one, two, three, four, five, They're at six or
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: seven linemen.
- 1:55:33Speaker 3: Forget So right now I have Strange on and it's
- 1:55:37Speaker 3: not so much that I think that he's played his
- 1:55:39Speaker 3: way on. It's more the positional flexibility. Yeah, he can
- 1:55:43Speaker 3: play center and he can play guard. So just in
- 1:55:46Speaker 3: that sense, like Leiden Robinson Caden Wallace are one position.
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: Back up the King, Wallace can back up a right tackle.
- 1:55:53Speaker 3: Maybe this coaching staff hasn't viewed him as a tackle,
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: that's true. So those two guys in particular, it's the
- 1:56:00Speaker 3: same thing. They don't have the depth a tackle to
- 1:56:03Speaker 3: really care about this. But like Vederian Low, to me,
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: is a left tackle backup. We've done those Low on
- 1:56:08Speaker 3: the right side thing and it's way worse than on
- 1:56:10Speaker 3: the left.
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: So I'll give you just just to kind of put
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: a cap on it, because I do on my ross projection.
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: When I do the ross projections was separate than the
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: bubble I do. Like the last three on last three off.
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: I actually did for this most recent one, last five
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: on last five off because it felt so close. So
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: this is essentially forty eight, forty nine fifty. So this
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: is essentially player forty nine through fifty three, No fifty seven, right,
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: because you know, five on a.
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: Lot of names and a lot of math, and we're
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: two hours into the.
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: Show, right, so my last five on, So this should
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: be forty nine through fifty three. Anthony Jennings to Michael Hasty,
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: Venderian Lowe, Can Wallas, Cole Strange. I had Cole Strange
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: is player fifty three. Player fifty four was Kyle Duggar,
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: last five off Kyle Duggar City, So del Pettis actually
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: should have moved del Pettis up. It should be Kyle
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: Dugger del Pettis jaevon Baker City. So and then I
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: actually used a waiverclaim. Offensive tackle is one of my
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: last tu because I am still not convinced that the
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: lineman they have now, I'm still not convinced that there's
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: not gonna be alignment on the team week one that
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: isn't on the team right now. So I'm not saying
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: that's great, but I do think it's gonna happen.
- 1:57:17Speaker 3: So I had Brad Burry Ben Brown on when Wu
- 1:57:20Speaker 3: Wilson Strange as the interior five interior alignement, uh, and
- 1:57:24Speaker 3: then I had Campbell, Moses, Bryant Lowe as a tackle,
- 1:57:28Speaker 3: so nine linemen, which I feel like maybe you could
- 1:57:31Speaker 3: you could get Caden Wallace on there too and make
- 1:57:34Speaker 3: it ten like you did. I think we pretty much
- 1:57:36Speaker 3: had the same thing and that was maybe the one difference.
- 1:57:39Speaker 3: I could be talked into that, But I feel like
- 1:57:41Speaker 3: those five guys. Strange makes a team because of his
- 1:57:44Speaker 3: positional flexibility. If you want to if you get into
- 1:57:47Speaker 3: a world where your interior is Wilson on when Wu Brown,
- 1:57:52Speaker 3: I don't know if Bradberry is here, so you might
- 1:57:55Speaker 3: need Cold Strange to be that top backup on game day.
- 1:57:58Speaker 3: Positional flexibility kind of thing. So that's what I had.
- 1:58:02Speaker 3: But I still feel like if I had to, I
- 1:58:04Speaker 3: had to guess where they're at right now trying to
- 1:58:07Speaker 3: sort out these competitions. It's interior offensive line, like which
- 1:58:11Speaker 3: guys are they going to keep out of that group?
- 1:58:13Speaker 3: In safety, I think those are the two spots Anthroontiy Jennings.
- 1:58:16Speaker 3: I feel like it is his own thing, like that's
- 1:58:17Speaker 3: just a system fit thing, and you know, just do
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: they have a role for them and all that kind
- 1:58:22Speaker 3: of stuff. I do unnecessarily look at edge is like
- 1:58:25Speaker 3: this is a competition still. I just think it's more
- 1:58:28Speaker 3: about Anthony Jennings safety and interior offensive line, two positions.
