- 0:01Hello, Welcome to Heat's Hot, But something's off with me.
- 0:03Just Joey T I've said it a million times, but I will say it
- 0:07again. You can watch the video version
- 0:09of this podcast on Spotify or on my YouTube channel.
- 0:12Just Joey TI mentioned it because I'm wearing a hat for
- 0:17today's podcast. It's a new one.
- 0:20Hats don't agree with me. Generally glasses don't
- 0:26generally agree with me. I must have like a weirdly
- 0:30shaped head. I guess it doesn't look weird
- 0:32when I'm not wearing a hat and or sunglasses, but I find
- 0:36glasses and sunglasses to be difficult to shop for.
- 0:40I feel like 99% of them do not look good on me, so I should
- 0:46need new sunglasses. I've been getting just cheap
- 0:49with sunglasses off of Amazon that are like 10-15 dollars per.
- 0:55Because I only really wear sunglasses in two situations
- 1:00when I'm traveling, where that's when I usually spend a lot of
- 1:04time outdoors or when I'm driving because you know, a lot
- 1:08of glare and everything. It's just hard to see.
- 1:10Sometimes when you're driving you don't wear sunglasses.
- 1:12And when I'm in the car, I don't really care how stylish or not
- 1:16my sunglasses are. I'm in the car.
- 1:19And yeah, that's. I don't care.
- 1:22But I'm travelling and out and about a lot, and I wear
- 1:24sunglasses. I kind of want to have a
- 1:27slightly not nice. They don't have to be nice or as
- 1:31inexpensive because I just don't want expensive sunglasses
- 1:35because I'm going to damage them, scratch them, lose them,
- 1:38sit on them, whatever. I don't really want to have the
- 1:42hassle of having to pay extra attention and take meticulous
- 1:47care of yet another expensive item.
- 1:50OK, I'm not good at that. I just want glasses that look
- 1:53decent on me and I don't want them to be expensive.
- 1:56I don't think that's that hard to do, but it's like buying
- 1:59jeans is not something you can really shop online for.
- 2:03I know they've got some websites, I think they have
- 2:07things, AI or something where you can virtually try some
- 2:10sunglasses on. That's not quite as good as
- 2:15trying sunglasses on in real life.
- 2:18So that's why I don't have decent looking sunglasses,
- 2:22because I hate trying on things and shopping I don't know about
- 2:25in stores and my face is a weird shape.
- 2:29Same thing for hats. I wear hats not for fashion, not
- 2:33for style, only purely of laziness because I don't feel
- 2:37like doing my hair. I actually just cut my hair to
- 2:40be quite a bit shorter. Earlier this month I grew up my
- 2:44hair in the Pandemic, got it quite quite a bit shorter.
- 2:46So in some ways right now it's not hard to style my hair.
- 2:51But the level of laziness of me, myself and I is that even it
- 2:57only took 60 seconds to style my hair, there will be some days
- 3:00where I'm too lazy for that. I just wear a hat and I'm just
- 3:03going to the gym. I may or may not do my hair
- 3:06because like I'm just going to the gym and I probably have to
- 3:10wash my hair afterwards anyways because I might get sweaty and
- 3:13all that kind of stuff. So why waste the time to put all
- 3:18this product in my hair? I'm not trying to impress anyone
- 3:21at the gym. I probably should be, but I'm
- 3:22not and when I come out I wash my hair anyways.
- 3:26So wearing a hat is what I usually do.
- 3:29This hat I got brand new. Like I said, I'm trying to break
- 3:32it in, I guess because it's the exact same hat that I bought
- 3:37like a year ago, just in a different color because I like
- 3:40the hat a lot. I guess I had it in Navy and
- 3:43there's a white one. I'm breaking this one and I
- 3:46haven't worn this one yet, so I think it's identical hats.
- 3:49This one fits a lot more weird, so I guess just need to break it
- 3:52in or something. So as you are listening to this,
- 3:56I will be in Taipei. I'll be in Taiwan by the time
- 4:01this goes up. That's Tuesday.
- 4:04As I record this tomorrow morning, Wednesday morning, I'm
- 4:06going to hop on a couple of planes to take me to Taiwan is
- 4:11Taiwan Pride this coming weekend.
- 4:14I've never been there before and I it was, it was kind of sort of
- 4:18on my list. I've got a list of events and
- 4:21places that I want to go. I do like traveling, but I don't
- 4:25need to like see the world. There are a limited number of
- 4:28places that I haven't been to that I want to visit.
- 4:32I mean I won't die if I don't see them but it's it's it's nice
- 4:36to go it it it's like a nice to it's not it's not bucket list.
- 4:40It's not to like that level, but it's if there's a good
- 4:43opportunity and I have the time and if it's my schedule, sure,
- 4:47why not let's go try it out. So Taiwan is one of those places
- 4:51and happens to be Taiwan Pride. So yeah, going there just for
- 4:58like 3 full days. And I when I planned the trip, I
- 5:02didn't know anyone that was going.
- 5:04But as we're getting closer, I'm hearing more people post on
- 5:07Instagrams or whatnot that they'll be there for that.
- 5:09So I know a small number of people that are going so hope to
- 5:14hang out with some of them. The only thing I'm anxious about
- 5:17is I don't speak Mandarin. I speak Cantonese.
- 5:21I'm from Hong Kong, but I don't speak Manjin and Cantonese are
- 5:25both Chinese, but it's very different, I think.
- 5:30I I feel like this is something I've talked about before, so I
- 5:32won't harp on it, but I I'm curious to see what the this is
- 5:38like such an American thing to wonder about.
- 5:40I'm curious to see what the level of English is in like the
- 5:45stores and restaurants and stuff that are around.
- 5:49I'm not there for very long, honestly.
- 5:50And I think if you speak Cantonese, you can kind of sort
- 5:56of for like very basic things, be able to function in a
- 6:04Mandarin location, in a Mandarin speaking location.
- 6:08I know like the bare basics of Mandarin.
- 6:10I did take Mandarin classes in high school, so in Canada where
- 6:17I went to school, because Canada is bilingual English and French,
- 6:21you have to take both English and French up until the 8th
- 6:26grade I think, and then starting in like the 9th grade, that's
- 6:31when you can opt out of one of the two languages.
- 6:35So I I grew up in an area of Canada, which is most of Canada,
- 6:39where English is predominant in Vancouver.
- 6:42It's only really in Quebec where French is dominant and
- 6:45everywhere else in Canada. Not that many people speak
- 6:47French really honestly, but everything has French on it.
- 6:50Like everything you buy in a store, every packaging for every
- 6:53item in every store has to be bilingual, no matter how little
- 6:57French is spoken in your neck of the woods in Canada.
- 7:01But anyways, so as soon as I was able to stop learning French, I
- 7:04did. But I think there was some rule
- 7:07or something where OK, OK, no there wasn't a rule.
- 7:11My mom had put me into Saturday school when I was younger in
- 7:18elementary school. After we moved from Hong Kong to
- 7:21Canada, my mom put me into Saturday Chinese school.
- 7:27So it was at the local high school where this happened.
- 7:32So it was like kind of it was close to our house.
- 7:34It was the same high school that my brother and sister went to,
- 7:36but I was in elementary school. But on Saturday, Saturday
- 7:39morning for like 1/2 day was Chinese school and they just
- 7:43went and they just taught you Chinese.
- 7:45They like different levels and stuff, but like they borrowed
- 7:47the local high school to like run that program.
- 7:51My mom doesn't listen to this. And yeah, my mom barely has
- 7:55Internet and I talked about it last time.
- 7:56Every time I go back to Vancouver to visit her, I help
- 8:00her with some tech stuff. I mean, she template has
- 8:02Internet now, but she doesn't even know what a podcast is
- 8:04anyway. She didn't, she doesn't even
- 8:05know how to use Google every week.
- 8:10I think I went to Chinese school Saturday, Chinese school for I
- 8:14think this was 4569, maybe for like 4 years or something like
- 8:18that. And then when I got into like
- 8:21high school, we start on the 8th grade.
- 8:24I think that's when I was able to take Mandarin as one of my
- 8:28courses in high school and therefore my mom allowed me to
- 8:31stop ticking the Saturday Chinese school.
- 8:34So the Saturday Chinese school was still in Cantonese, and
- 8:37obviously my mom's thinking was, what, Joey's only eight now that
- 8:41we've live in Canada, he doesn't.
- 8:44He still needs to learn more Chinese.
- 8:47He still needs to learn more Cantonese, like reading,
- 8:49writing, vocabulary, all that kind of stuff, which is, you
- 8:52know, any, like, sensible parent would probably think that,
- 8:56right? They're moving to a different
- 8:57country with a different language.
- 8:58They would probably prefer their kids to still keep up their
- 9:02native tongue, if you will, when they're younger, right?
- 9:05I did not like learning Chinese. I was very fascinated by
- 9:09English, but I did not like learning Chinese.
- 9:12And obviously when I started going to school in Canada,
- 9:15everyone was speaking English, right?
- 9:17So And all the kids at school speaking English, so it felt
- 9:22like English was like the thing. And I started reading all these
- 9:25magazines and stuff about cars and computers, stuff which I did
- 9:28have access to in Hong Kong. But you know, I mentioned this
- 9:32last time, I would love to read car magazines, computer
- 9:34magazines, because there's like the things I found interesting,
- 9:36even though I was really, really young, I didn't understand half
- 9:38of what was said. It was on English.
- 9:40So it's like everything was English now.
- 9:42So in the Chinese school, I think for the first like one or
- 9:45two years and I was like 8 or 9 or 10 or something, I just did
- 9:50it and it was like fine, whatever.
- 9:52But I think soon after that I literally started cheating every
- 9:58single week. So the way it worked, the way it
- 10:01works is, Oh my God, if I ever have kids, I'm gonna that's a
- 10:06whole other can of worms. So if I have kids, I'm not gonna
- 10:08force them to learn Chinese. But anyways, the way this worked
- 10:12is almost every week we would have a test, and the test,
- 10:18usually almost every time, is we would have a textbook and there
- 10:24would be some sort of paragraph or like a number of sentences
- 10:29that we would need to learn the words to.
- 10:33OK, usually it was only maybe two or three sentences, 15 or 20
- 10:42Chinese characters, which is not that much, honestly.
- 10:45So it's partially A vocabulary exercise, right?
- 10:50You're supposed to memorize these words and know how to
- 10:53write them without, like looking at the textbook.
- 10:56The textbook. We had to It's the same textbook
- 10:59throughout the whole year. And then, but beyond the text,
- 11:01we have a notebook, which is just blank pages, and you're
- 11:05supposed to take the notebook and use that for the test as
- 11:09well. So it wasn't a piece of paper
- 11:12that was handed out to you to do a test.
- 11:14It wasn't anything the teacher gave you.
- 11:15There was this basically notebook, a blank notebook that
- 11:18would you use throughout the year for the test and they let
- 11:22you keep it like you just brought your own notebook.
- 11:26If you're, you can probably get the drift of where this is
- 11:28going. So I didn't like Chinese school,
- 11:31obviously, by then at least. So what happened was they would
- 11:36tell you each week, OK, next week's class we're going to be
- 11:40doing the test on like this particular section of the
- 11:45textbook, like like these sentences or this paragraph is
- 11:49what you would have to be able to write out like without
- 11:52looking at the textbook. The teacher would actually read
- 11:55out what the paragraph was. So you don't have to like,
- 11:58memorize, memorize it. But you need, you need to know
- 12:00how to write all the words as the teacher read out the
- 12:03paragraph in the words to you. So what I did was, because we
- 12:08all kept get to keep the notebook where we would be
- 12:10writing the test in, I would take the notebook, I would go to
- 12:14the next blank page where we'll be writing next week's test.
- 12:17And I would take a pencil and I would write in there very, very,
- 12:22very faintly. The entire paragraph, all the
- 12:27characters, all the words for the upcoming test, so that you
- 12:33couldn't see that anything was written on it unless you were
- 12:37like, unless the notebook was like 12 inches away from you,
- 12:42unless you were sitting right in front of the notebook, you could
- 12:43not tell anything was written in it.
- 12:46And I did this week after week after week, and that's how I
- 12:50passed. I didn't learn anything because
- 12:53I just didn't want to learn it. So yeah, have I cheated that
- 12:59prolifically in anything else ever in my life?
- 13:05No. Like, no.
- 13:07Not even in like high school or middle school or whatever.
- 13:12I didn't. No, I didn't cheat in high
- 13:14school because, yeah, I don't know.
- 13:19I just really didn't like this concept of Chinese school.
- 13:21I just, I I just didn't want to do it.
- 13:23It was one of the first things that I ever was forced to do
- 13:26besides swimming when I was younger, like before we moved to
- 13:31Canada when I was, I don't know, five or six or seven, like,
- 13:36parents love to do this, right? My mom told me to, There's this
- 13:42local casino. There's like this one local
- 13:44casino in Macau, actually Macau nowadays, it's like the gambling
- 13:49capital of China. There are like tons of big huge
- 13:53casinos there. But this was in like 1990 Okay
- 13:57times are different. Before there were like 20
- 14:00million casinos in Macau, but there was like this one main
- 14:04casino and it was like not just the key casino, it was like also
- 14:08a hotel. And they had like some other,
- 14:11like it was like a nice casino. So like all these amenities and
- 14:13it has a pool and they actually taught swimming lessons there.
- 14:18So my mom signed me up for swimming lessons at, you know,
- 14:21like the local casino, hotel, swimming pool, but they offered
- 14:25that. So don't remember that much of
- 14:27those lessons because I was like 5 or 6 and I was really young.
- 14:30But I do remember the instructor forcing me to jump off the
- 14:34diving board and because I have a fear of drowning, I couldn't
- 14:38really swim. I have a fear of heights.
- 14:40I have fear of falling, I freak out a diving board.
- 14:44So whenever like gym class or like these swimming lessons,
- 14:47when they forced me to jump off the diving board, I would I
- 14:53would do it in like my own way that would get me to like the
- 14:58edge of the swimming pool and Get Me Out of quote UN quote
- 15:01danger as quickly as possible, right?
- 15:04And whatever way was that felt the best for me.
- 15:07So I remember one time the instructor wanted me to jump off
- 15:10the docking board and then swim in like a particular way.
- 15:14This is like different breaststrokes or whatever,
- 15:17right? So I think the only stroke that
- 15:21I really was supposed comfortable with was just like
- 15:23when you just like swing your arms like forward, like you
- 15:26pedal and then you just like flap your feet like that,
- 15:28whatever the. I don't know.
- 15:30I don't, I don't know what that's called breaststroke where
- 15:32you just like your arms are just going in circles and then your
- 15:36feet just go pepper, pepper, pepper.
- 15:38I'm not making a lot of sense, I know, but he wanted to meet the
- 15:42swim, Swim, What's that? The where you kind of swim like
- 15:46a frog, where you're like you're kind of like you put your arms
- 15:48out from in front of your chest, you go straight out and you
- 15:51scoop the water to the side, whatever that is.
- 15:53He wanted me to do that. He wanted me to jump on the
- 15:55diving board and swim, scooping well, water to the side, using,
- 16:00using that fashion over to like the edge of the to the pool,
- 16:03right. I would jump begrudgingly and
- 16:07then once I jumped, I was like so freaked out that I I would
- 16:10just swim whatever way I wanted to, which was like the regular
- 16:14way, the most way. I'm most comforted.
- 16:15And I remember him being just like frustrated and exasperated
- 16:19that I wouldn't do what he wanted me to do.
- 16:22So that wasn't cheating. That's not cheating anyways.
- 16:27But yeah, like beyond the the the Chinese go cheating.
- 16:31That's the only time where I cheated so massively, cheated so
- 16:36massively in anything I've done in my life, ever.
- 16:39Because I just hated it so much. And the swimming, I hate it so
- 16:42much as well. So I think This is why when I,
- 16:46when I hear my sister putting my niece and nephew into all these
- 16:52extracurriculars, not a kind of subwoo, but when I was younger,
- 16:55I was a lot. The younger I was, the more shy
- 16:57I was. I wouldn't say I'm shy nowadays,
- 17:01but when I was really young I was really shy because like,
- 17:06well, that's a whole other can of worms again.
- 17:08But I was shy. I didn't.
- 17:09I kind of killed myself. I didn't say anything.
- 17:11But my teacher, parent Karma, says teachers always told me I
- 17:15was talkative, so I don't know what the fuck they were talking
- 17:17about. But anyways, so I never really
- 17:20voiced my opinion to like, authority figures, basically,
- 17:24let's put it that way. So I never told anyone that I
- 17:27hate jumping off the diving board.
- 17:28I mean, I'm sure by the body language people could tell it
- 17:31doesn't look like Joey wants to do this.
- 17:33So whenever I visit my family and then my my sister has my
- 17:38niece and nephew doing all these issue curriculars, especially my
- 17:42nephew because he's 8 and he's a little older.
- 17:44So he's doing ice hockey and he's doing dance like K pop
- 17:51dance. The last time I visited him, he
- 17:53was doing K pop stuff and he was doing piano and I think he was
- 17:59doing like swimming, ice hockey, dance, piano, swimming.
- 18:04Like he's doing at least four things on top of like regular
- 18:07school. And I can't tell whether he
- 18:13wants to do all these things. He probably wants to do some of
- 18:16them, I guess. I can't tell whether he wants to
- 18:18do any of these things versus he's just blindly doing what my
- 18:23sister's telling me to do just because you know she's the mom,
- 18:28right? Because I'm not saying everyone
- 18:32needs to be as lazy as I am because I'm so lazy.
- 18:35But to do that many extracurriculars, doesn't that
- 18:38seem like a lot for like an 8 year old?
- 18:41I don't need my kid to do extracurriculars and doing
- 18:45school, but apparently, according to my sisters at
- 18:48least, he's not stupid. He's doing one grade up in math.
- 18:52Oh Oh yeah, he's also doing extra tutoring.
- 18:54And yeah, it was. It was.
- 18:57It was the first day that I was back in Vancouver and I was
- 19:00having lunch with my mom, my brother-in-law and my nephew.
- 19:06And we're just talking. And then they're saying, oh,
- 19:11Lucas, Lucas is my nephew. Lucas is going to go to the
- 19:16tutor place upstairs from where the restaurant is at like 1:00.
- 19:21So like, Lucas is going to whatever, he's going to leave
- 19:23early. I was like, oh, like is he like
- 19:26falling behind and stuff, blah, blah.
- 19:27It's like, Oh no, he's like he's a great ahead in math.
- 19:32So we want to like keep that up. So I don't know.
- 19:35I think we still try hard. It's I I guess he's not like
- 19:39doing badly in school. All is your curriculars.
- 19:42But at some point, like, does he have time to even be a kid?
- 19:45Like does he have time to like just chillax a little bit?
- 19:49Because every time I talk to her and just figure out the plans
- 19:54for anything, but every time I come back, I ask, hey, I'm
- 19:56coming back in like 2 weeks, you know, like do we have plans to
- 20:01like do a family lunch, family dinner, blah, blah, blah.
- 20:04And it always is. The schedule we work around the
- 20:07most is my nephew's schedule because he's got so much stuff
- 20:13going on. Like he's got more stuff going
- 20:15on than like. Almost every adult that I know,
- 20:17his schedule is like, so packed to do school and like all these
- 20:20extra things, and it's like multiple times every single
- 20:23week. So I'm tired just hearing about
- 20:25it. But every time I hear them, my
- 20:28sister talked about something like, does he want to do these
- 20:31things or are you just breathing, resent in your kid,
- 20:35unbeknownst to you that you're doing this, but like, he's he he
- 20:39gets pretty young. I'm pretty sure at any point now
- 20:42they're going to force feed him Chinese, going to take him to
- 20:44Saturday Chinese school and I am fully ready to teach him how to
- 20:48cheat in Saturday Chinese school, if it does come to that.
- 20:53Oh, like they're also going to a private school.
- 20:56So I don't, I've not looked into this, but they're paying money
- 21:00to go to private school. I'm not a parent, obviously.
- 21:04I'm. I'm a bachelor and I've not
- 21:07looked into this, but all I know is how much they're paying for
- 21:11private school and damn that shit.
- 21:13Kids are expensive. Kids are really expensive.
- 21:16I'm thinking the public school's so bad and the private school's
- 21:19so much. Quote UN quote.
- 21:20Better that you wanna put your kids in private school and spend
- 21:25all that extra money. I would rather put it was my
- 21:28kid. I think I would rather put the
- 21:30money for private elementary school.
- 21:33Instead of doing that, go to public school.
- 21:36We'll try to live in like in a decent school district for you.
- 21:41But I would save that money and put that towards a college
- 21:44education fund for you, honestly, so that you don't have
- 21:48to end up with so much college debt when you graduate.
- 21:53I think that's probably like the smarter long term goal.
- 21:56I don't know if they're saving for his college, but I wouldn't.
- 21:59I don't know to to pay the amount of money you can pay for
- 22:04private primary school, like elementary school when they told
- 22:07me the numbers. It's like that's crazy.
- 22:09Like people can go to college or Community College, I guess.
- 22:12I don't know Community College for that.
- 22:14That's like a crazy amount. Oh my goodness.
- 22:18So yeah, I won't be. I'm I'm going to visit my my
- 22:24parents in December the next time I go to Vancouver, so I get
- 22:27an update for that. The other thing I wanted to talk
- 22:29about this week is I'm trying to get into TikTok.
- 22:34Not because I'm trying to be like hip and with it or whatever
- 22:39with the Gen. Z people, which I don't.
- 22:41Whatever. I'm not trying to do it just to
- 22:44do it, but I do need to learn it, to do social marketing for
- 22:51the business I'm trying to start up.
- 22:52I want to get more familiar with the platform, so I'm doing it
- 22:56personally just for myself for now.
- 22:58And one of the things I'm finding out really quick is that
- 23:03this is gonna sound so basic to most of you that remotely touch
- 23:08Tiktok. But I haven't really even like
- 23:10looked at Tiktok videos into like very very recently.
- 23:13And Tiktok videos are very very short.
- 23:16So apparently when Tiktok first launched videos for only 15
- 23:20seconds and they've like extended it a couple of times, I
- 23:22think it's like 60 seconds or like 2 minutes or whatever it is
- 23:25now. So I was talking to someone that
- 23:29has some success on Tiktok, but more than me, I have like 5
- 23:33followers or something like that and I saw some of their stuff.
- 23:38And then he showed like, I tried to upload like 3-2 or three
- 23:41separate videos and then he's like, yeah, these are too long,
- 23:44they need to be shorter and they were like 32nd videos.
- 23:47I always have this like YouTube mind frame when I'm creating
- 23:49videos and he's like, oh, these cats keep like way shorter, you
- 23:52need more caption, you need to put like a trending song in
- 23:54there, blah blah blah. So I'm very slowly learning how
- 23:58to have I hate the word viral. Like I I I have a problem with
- 24:05that term. Personally I think it's accurate
- 24:08to describe quote, UN quote viral videos.
- 24:10I'm not trying to go viral per SE, I'm not trying to get
- 24:14popular. I'm just, I just want to figure
- 24:16out what works and what doesn't work vis A vis the the TikTok
- 24:20algorithm for example, right? I want to know like you know
- 24:24what are if I want to create successful TikTok videos, they
- 24:27don't have to be like viral and get like a million views or
- 24:30whatever, you know, get some practice doing that.
- 24:33So one of the things I'm having problems is finding just coming
- 24:38up with ideas for TikTok videos. I know that a lot of people do
- 24:42dance and lip syncs and that kind of stuff, but I think I'm
- 24:46trying to find ideas for videos that is an overlap between
- 24:52something that would be a successful TikTok video and also
- 24:58the type of content I would actually want to create.
- 25:01There's a difference between creating content primarily or
- 25:06purely just to have it go viral or be successful, or just get
- 25:10lots of hits, even though it might not be a video that is in
- 25:14good taste or is reflective of your own values.
- 25:18It's kind of like if you look at it as a business sometimes, if
- 25:21you just want to turn a dollar, you can turn a dollar, whether
- 25:24you believe in that thing or not, right?
- 25:26A lot of people do that. They're just to use the YouTube
- 25:29world as a reference because the concept is the same.
- 25:33There have been more than a few notable Youtubers over the
- 25:39years. This is not a new phenomenon
- 25:41where they've done very questionable YouTube videos and
- 25:49at least Hindsight's 2020. But even without hindsight, just
- 25:53at the moment where they obviously did it only for the
- 25:56publicity and for the clicks and for it to trend or get talked
- 26:02about. And it's either something that
- 26:04was like super shady that they did or something that was like
- 26:08very, very questionable or in extremely poor taste.
- 26:12Or maybe it's like an ethical occasionally even illegal.
- 26:19And you know they they just want to get the clicks.
- 26:22You know whether when they're and and honestly when you get to
- 26:24like that level and a lot of the videos you watch.
- 26:27And I'm learning this for TikTok, but I've learned that
- 26:29for YouTube already. Anytime you see any sort of
- 26:32video, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, whatever, that seems to
- 26:36be like a viral radio nowadays. It's not by accident that that
- 26:42video happened most of the time back like 10 or 12 years ago.
- 26:46It would have been easier to have you know like accidentally
- 26:50a viral video without really thinking too much about how to
- 26:52make one. These days there's so many
- 26:55content creators, so many people posting so much content and all
- 26:59these platforms that if you want like a good, you want like a
- 27:03really successful video 90% of the time.
- 27:07And the odds are you have to plan out that video.
- 27:11There's a lot of work that goes into videos, at least for if you
- 27:15want to do like a one hit wonder, Maybe you might have one
- 27:18or two of your videos go viral. But if you want to have on a
- 27:21sustained basis consistently well performing videos on
- 27:26YouTube, on TikTok, whatever it is.
- 27:28So that's not just like one or two or three videos here and
- 27:30there. If you want to be consistently,
- 27:32if you want to consistently get the views consistently get the
- 27:34clicks, that takes work like without doubt.
- 27:38So every like popular, successful, famous, social media
- 27:43influencer person you see on any of these platforms that are
- 27:46consistently churning out successful videos or lots of
- 27:49views. A lot of work goes into that and
- 27:53the end products sometimes look quite effortless, especially in
- 27:59the shorter forms like the Instagram reel or on TikTok.
- 28:02You might watch a 1520 second thing and it's like oh, how much
- 28:05effort could it take to make a 15 second video?
- 28:08Yeah, they were dressing up. Obviously.
- 28:10It looked like they, you know, set up a calendar for
- 28:12themselves. That video could have taken
- 28:16days, if not like a week to really plan out.
- 28:19Especially if you can do a collab or something, right?
- 28:22Yeah, you could sometimes not imagine how much time and effort
- 28:27it takes to set up a shoot, even for the shortest of video.
- 28:31So all these people that again over the years have done very
- 28:36questionable videos with very questionable content, they did
- 28:42not happen by accident. Something in their heads, we're
- 28:45thinking we got to get more clicks, we got to get more views
- 28:48coming, more money, whatever it is, it's like, oh, we need
- 28:51something more controversial or like more shocking or more click
- 28:54bait or more, whatever, more and more, more.
- 28:56Because the vast majority of them, they were doing YouTube or
- 29:01TikTok or whatever for a while, and they needed to keep things
- 29:05fresh, right? So it's kind of like, OK, you
- 29:08get to a point where you've done so many different types of
- 29:11videos. Like you need to find something
- 29:12new. You need to find something
- 29:14unique, right? There's more and more people
- 29:16doing videos now. You know, these people have been
- 29:19in the game for a while, Got to keep things fresh.
- 29:22And yeah, sometimes that mindset can get kind of addictive and
- 29:27then kind of messes with your head.
- 29:28So you're like, OK, this is probably not something I would
- 29:33have done three or five years ago, but hey, they feel like
- 29:37they need to do it for whatever reason.
- 29:39So I am not trying to do that. I don't need a million
- 29:44followers. I don't need a million views.
- 29:47If I got like 10, twenty, 30,000 views on a video, I would
- 29:51consider that pretty damn good. And I don't need any more of
- 29:54that. There was one video that I
- 29:55posted on Tiktok, and it's the only video I posted where it
- 30:02actually was a bit of a spur of the moment thing.
- 30:04I was literally walking home from the gym and you guys have
- 30:07heard me rant about cars and drivers and all that kind of
- 30:10stuff. One of my pet peeves about
- 30:12driving is when people park or stop in a driveway in the way
- 30:18that blocks the sidewalk. So you know, a lot of places.
- 30:22The driveway is not very long into an apartment complex or
- 30:26your house, whatever. So when people stop the car on
- 30:31the driveway but their car blocks the sidewalk, this is
- 30:36such a basic thing for me. For a regular, fully able human
- 30:39being like me that has no difficulty walking and
- 30:42especially walking around things, it might seem to you no
- 30:45big deal. But what if someone is, You
- 30:48know, like, what if, like, an elderly person with a Walker
- 30:52needs to, like, is walking on the sidewalk, taking a stroll,
- 30:57and they've got a Walker? And, like, it's difficult for
- 31:00them to walk around your car, which is blocking a sidewalk.
- 31:04Also, especially if you could have just moved your car up,
- 31:07like by three feet further into the driveway, and so that your
- 31:10car is not blocking the sidewalk, you can stop in the
- 31:13driveway without blocking the sidewalk.
- 31:15That like, drives me crazy. Even more because there was like
- 31:18no reason at all for you to not be blocking the sidewalk.
- 31:22Someone's in a wheelchair and they can't go around your stupid
- 31:26car that you could just move three feet up and it drives me
- 31:32crazy. This is exactly what happened,
- 31:35like a few months ago when I was walking back to from the gym and
- 31:39this car pulled into a driveway, fully blocking the sidewalk.
- 31:44And they could have easily pulled up another three feet and
- 31:47be completely clear of the sidewalk.
- 31:49And they could have like stayed stopped in their driveway for
- 31:52whatever the reason that they have because they explosive by
- 31:56explosive diarrhea needed to get in their house or something.
- 31:59But I was so miffed. I was like, I'm going to take a
- 32:02photo of this or I'm taking video of this.
- 32:04I'm going to post it on Tiktok, so I posted this photo.
- 32:07I was like walking towards the car, but it's like from 30 feet
- 32:10away I can tell the whole side was blocked.
- 32:13So like from like 30 feet away. Whipped up my camera, started
- 32:17recording and I recorded as I was walking towards the car and
- 32:21I was like and I was. And also as I was walking around
- 32:24the back of it and as I got closer, I realized there were
- 32:27like two or three people at like that were clearly with the car
- 32:31in some capacity. That was just like chit chatting
- 32:34about something. I don't know, they weren't
- 32:35fighting that they had, you know, they were just having a
- 32:37nice pleasant conversation and I made sure to get their faces in
- 32:41this fucking video. So I posted that and that one's
- 32:44got like 41,000 views. So I think that video was
- 32:49successful I think, or it got some number of hits.
- 32:52But my other videos have like 5 views.
- 32:54I think that one got some clicks because probably because the
- 32:57caption that I put on there because I like wrote this like
- 33:01very very sarcastic rant in the caption that was like a mini
- 33:07paragraph. It wasn't just like a one liner,
- 33:09it was like super, super sarcastically done.
- 33:12So maybe I'd do more of those. There you go.
- 33:15But yeah, I want to like, brainstorm some ideas of like
- 33:17videos I can make. Because again, this doesn't
- 33:19happen by accident. That will give me some number of
- 33:24views, and I don't need a million views.
- 33:25I just want to figure out like, you know, get experience with
- 33:28how to create successful videos. They need to go like viral per
- 33:31SE. Yeah, just learn how to do
- 33:34TikTok. You have tips to give me on how
- 33:37to do Tick Tock? Please leave them the comments
- 33:40down in the YouTube description below.
- 33:42The YouTube description below. But yeah, next time next week
- 33:45when I get back I will hopefully have a report from you on my
- 33:48trip to Taiwan for pride. Until next time, bye.
