- 0:01Speaker 1: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 0:04Speaker 1: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Yes, indeed.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Green day there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this
- 0:11Speaker 3: Thursday afternoon. I don't know if you've noticed this, Mogi,
- 0:14Speaker 3: but old spring has sprung, mate.
- 0:16Speaker 2: It has. It sprung hard.
- 0:18Speaker 3: And it's absolutely beautiful weather out there. And, of course,
- 0:21Speaker 3: beautiful weather means cricket's back on the agenda.
- 0:25Speaker 2: With that in mind, we've got a couple of black clap.
- 0:30Speaker 2: You did this yesterday. I did this yesterday, man. Come on.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Back claps.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Black caps with us, Jacob Duffy and Adam Milne.
- 0:38Speaker 2: G'day, you massive backbones. How's life? It's a tough start.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Tough start. How's life? Yeah. Yeah, how was life?
- 0:44Speaker 4: Not so good after last night.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I've got to be honest with you. We were going
- 0:48Speaker 2: to bring it up.
- 0:49Speaker 5: Well, I was.
- 0:49Speaker 2: I bloody was. Switch not to cricket.
- 0:52Speaker 3: It was interesting because, unfortunately, I didn't even know it
- 0:55Speaker 3: was on last night. I thought it was tonight, so
- 0:58Speaker 3: I missed it. And then Mogi sent through a message
- 1:01Speaker 3: on the group chat saying, geez, did you see the
- 1:03Speaker 3: score of the cricket?
- 1:05Speaker 2: And I immediately went to the scorecard.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Then I was like, bloody hell, that is carnage. Sharma,
- 1:15Speaker 3: 113 off 38 balls. Milne, when you're standing at the
- 1:20Speaker 3: top of your mark there and someone's going batshit crazy
- 1:23Speaker 3: like this, ballistic, what's running through your head?
- 1:27Speaker 2: Um... How do I get the ball to someone else? Absolutely. Yeah.
- 1:31Speaker 2: But it's absolutely insane. And you'd be sick of hearing it.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And I'm sick of seeing it, to be honest with you.
- 1:35Speaker 2: But they just swing at everything and go 6-4, 6-4.
- 1:38Speaker 2: What are you meant to do? Because now there's got
- 1:40Speaker 2: to be a response. Because I like to see a
- 1:43Speaker 2: battle between bat and ball. I hate batters just smashing
- 1:47Speaker 2: the shit out of it. It bores me to tears.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Even if it's New Zealand, that bores me. So there's
- 1:51Speaker 2: got to be a response from the bowlers. What are
- 1:54Speaker 2: you doing about it? Are there Yorkers on the crease?
- 1:59Speaker 2: What are we doing? There's got to be some kind
- 2:00Speaker 2: of a response here.
- 2:02Speaker 6: Yeah, we're trying some Yorkers. We'll try our variations.
- 2:07Speaker 2: They're a great side, and I think we've.
- 2:09Speaker 6: Seen the way T20 cricket has gone with the IPL
- 2:14Speaker 6: and the way that's developed. These guys are incredible players
- 2:19Speaker 6: and power hitters, and you sort of see these power
- 2:22Speaker 6: play numbers have sort of exploded over the last... um
- 2:26Speaker 6: two or three years so yeah we'll be trying to
- 2:29Speaker 6: sort of reduce that down knowing that you know at
- 2:31Speaker 6: some point in time we're going to take a bit
- 2:33Speaker 6: of tap here and there but if we can take
- 2:35Speaker 6: some wickets and try and get out of those first
- 2:37Speaker 6: six overs with by doing a little bit of damage to.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Them have you thought about because obviously one of these
- 2:42Speaker 2: guys is 15 years old have you thought about intimidating
- 2:46Speaker 2: talking massive shit Getting right in his face. Yeah, getting
- 2:50Speaker 2: in his grill, fellas. Have you thought about it? Because
- 2:52Speaker 2: we don't do that as New Zealanders. Maybe it's about
- 2:55Speaker 2: time we started swinging a bat around his head, that
- 2:57Speaker 2: sort of stuff. You know, whatever you can to get
- 2:59Speaker 2: in his head.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Did your mum buy you that bat, did she?
- 3:02Speaker 2: Probably. He's 15.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I used to go to a school, and it was
- 3:07Speaker 3: a boarding school, fellas, but it wasn't a rich, falutin' boarding school.
- 3:10Speaker 2: And we used to.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Play teams like Kings, you know what I mean, and
- 3:14Speaker 3: Auckland Grammar, and they always had the best gear and
- 3:17Speaker 3: the pads and the brand-new bats. We used to just
- 3:20Speaker 3: chirp them, you know what I mean? Did your mum
- 3:22Speaker 3: buy you that, did she? Oh, jeez, you look– oh,
- 3:25Speaker 3: those pads are bloody white. Have you thought about a
- 3:27Speaker 3: bit of mental disintegration, as Steve Waugh would say?
- 3:31Speaker 4: In Christchurch, I actually gave the wee fella– you know,
- 3:33Speaker 4: I gave him a wee mouthful.
- 3:34Speaker 2: What did you say?
- 3:35Speaker 4: It didn't look amazing.
- 3:36Speaker 7: He didn't look amazing. Beastie braces was bowling. There was
- 3:39Speaker 7: a little bit of bounce. I said, oh, there's a
- 3:40Speaker 7: bit of bounce there, fella, kind of thing, you know.
- 3:42Speaker 7: Just what he wasn't used to.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Good spray.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Good spray. But what was his response to that? Well,
- 3:50Speaker 2: last night, he.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Was staring me down.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Was to hit you for five sixes or something like that.
- 3:55Speaker 4: He definitely gave me a stare down back.
- 3:57Speaker 3: So, fellas, what's the feeling on the team, obviously? Disappointment
- 4:02Speaker 3: with these first three matches?
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:05Speaker 3: What goes on in the sort of team meetings when
- 4:07Speaker 3: you're three zip down? What are you sort of discussing?
- 4:10Speaker 3: Obviously tactics about how do we counter? Because you're right,
- 4:15Speaker 3: they're an immensely talented side, as are you guys.
- 4:19Speaker 4: The first couple of games were actually pretty good games
- 4:20Speaker 4: of cricket.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Very much. And we were pretty close.
- 4:22Speaker 4: And I think if we're honest, we probably weren't at
- 4:25Speaker 4: our best either. We made mistakes.
- 4:27Speaker 7: We bowled shit like no balls and a few extra
- 4:29Speaker 7: wires and things like that. And those close games, that
- 4:32Speaker 7: kind of hurts us.
- 4:33Speaker 2: It's just.
- 4:34Speaker 7: Last night was a bit embarrassing, to be honest. And
- 4:36Speaker 7: it's like, obviously, you know, that happens. You sort of
- 4:39Speaker 7: get in the changing room and the bowling coach starts
- 4:42Speaker 7: laughing at you. This is not the moment.
- 4:45Speaker 2: There's only so much you can do, I guess, when
- 4:47Speaker 2: they're in that mood.
- 4:48Speaker 4: You've got to sort of burn the tape and move
- 4:50Speaker 4: on a little bit.
- 4:50Speaker 8: We've got Blackcaps Jacob Duffy and Adam Milne here, fellas.
- 4:53Speaker 8: We're going to go to a tune, but just quickly
- 4:54Speaker 8: reminding the audience that this Friday Eden Park is hosting
- 4:57Speaker 8: the next game. Not only is it hosting the Black
- 5:00Speaker 8: Caps taking on India in a T20, it's also hosting
- 5:02Speaker 8: the big show who will be live on the ground
- 5:05Speaker 8: as well on the new Coca-Cola Field Club. So it's
- 5:07Speaker 8: going to be a big event. If you want to
- 5:09Speaker 8: double pass, text us 3483 and you could be in
- 5:12Speaker 8: to win. We're just going to achieve.
- 5:13Speaker 2: And, Keezy, that is now sold out. Is it? That
- 5:15Speaker 2: game is sold out. So these are the last of
- 5:17Speaker 2: the tickets. Oh, my God. Well done. We'll go to
- 5:19Speaker 2: the Black Crows.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Get your texts in.
- 5:22Speaker 2: And then come back with the Black Caps. Yes, Nuri.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Get texted.
- 5:27Speaker 5: Oh, g'day, Matt.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Oh, hi, mate, yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Look, if you want the chance to win all our
- 5:32Speaker 5: on-air competitions and stuff and get amongst the live conversation,
- 5:38Speaker 5: tune in to the Hauraki Big Show, four to seven
- 5:41Speaker 5: weekdays on Radio Hauraki and iHeartRadio.
- 5:46Speaker 1: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 5:49Speaker 1: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Black Crows there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this
- 5:56Speaker 3: Thursday evening. We've got Black Caps, Jacob Duffy and Alan Milne.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Adam Milne. Yes. I've just been jinxed. I've been jinxed.
- 6:07Speaker 2: This is a guy who's commentated cricket for years.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Yeah, totally.
- 6:10Speaker 2: No idea. Totally. He was so happy with getting black
- 6:13Speaker 2: caps correct. I was. He's gone on to Alan. Sorry, Alan. Sorry, Adam.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Now, listen, as we mentioned, the next match, Eden Park.
- 6:23Speaker 3: How do you guys feel about Eden Park as bowlers?
- 6:25Speaker 3: Because it's a bit of a nightmare, isn't it, in
- 6:27Speaker 3: terms of the dimensions of the ground? I mean, a
- 6:30Speaker 3: batsman can play a check shot and it flies over
- 6:32Speaker 3: the boundary for six.
- 6:34Speaker 2: What are your personal thoughts on Eden Park?
- 6:37Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a bit of a catch-22 at Eden Park,
- 6:39Speaker 6: the dimensions, but the wickets actually usually got a bit
- 6:41Speaker 6: of pace and bounce, which can help us out as
- 6:44Speaker 6: fast as. So it's about, I guess, navigating the boundary
- 6:47Speaker 6: size and hopefully we can chip a few early.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Yeah, well, straight down the ground's a nightmare, isn't it?
- 6:53Speaker 7: Quite often you find the guys, because they're trying to
- 6:55Speaker 7: hit straight, with that extra bounce, it's kind of hard
- 6:57Speaker 7: to hit that area with the bounce, but Even square
- 7:01Speaker 7: boundaries aren't that big compared to last night. They're actually
- 7:03Speaker 7: not even that much bigger, are they?
- 7:05Speaker 2: So it could be in for a bit of a
- 7:06Speaker 2: score tomorrow night.
- 7:07Speaker 4: There's nowhere to hide, mate.
- 7:10Speaker 8: Adam Milne, you in particular, you were mentioning off-air there.
- 7:13Speaker 8: You were saying off-air quite a lot of pretty shocking stuff.
- 7:16Speaker 8: But one of the things you did mention is that
- 7:20Speaker 8: you actually played in the IPL team of the 15-year-old
- 7:22Speaker 8: Indian cricket prodigy, Vaibhav Surayavanshi.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, that sounds about right.
- 7:29Speaker 8: Pretty close he's 15 he's coming over here and he's
- 7:31Speaker 8: performing quite well we're just saying you know maybe the
- 7:34Speaker 8: smack talk we could work on the smack talk do
- 7:36Speaker 8: you know any personal stuff about this guy that can
- 7:38Speaker 8: really cut him deep stuff that no one else knows
- 7:40Speaker 8: because you've spent time with him no that's the thing.
- 7:43Speaker 6: About India sort of everyone knows everything I think there
- 7:46Speaker 6: was a something came out about one of his teammates
- 7:49Speaker 6: said he loves eating ice cream he likes ice cream
- 7:52Speaker 6: that was about all that came out because he was
- 7:54Speaker 6: scoring buck loads of runs in the IPL so there
- 7:56Speaker 6: wasn't much people could say.
- 7:57Speaker 2: So he likes ice cream. Yeah, yeah. What are we
- 8:00Speaker 2: going to do with that?
- 8:01Speaker 8: We need to find out personal details.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I've got nothing.
- 8:06Speaker 3: It's phenomenal, the talent that comes out of India. I
- 8:09Speaker 3: was going to say to you fellows, I... did some
- 8:12Speaker 3: serious commentary once, and it was New Zealand A versus
- 8:15Speaker 3: India A down at the Mount there. And I saw
- 8:19Speaker 3: Shubman Gill for the first time. And, you know, New
- 8:23Speaker 3: Zealand A, so I got quite a good one-day score.
- 8:25Speaker 3: I was in the 300s, and he just smacked the
- 8:28Speaker 3: living crap out of us. It's incredible the amount of
- 8:32Speaker 3: talent that actually India continues to bring through, you know
- 8:35Speaker 3: what I mean?
- 8:36Speaker 4: It shouldn't really be that surprising.
- 8:38Speaker 2: No. Well, what's surprising, I think, is how well we
- 8:42Speaker 2: go against them. Yes. You know, continuing to punch. I've
- 8:45Speaker 2: obviously got into the final of the T20 World Cup.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Was that just over a year ago? G-Lane, of course,
- 8:51Speaker 2: went over from the ACC and absolutely cursed you guys.
- 8:55Speaker 2: But we go great guns. And the thing that I'll
- 8:57Speaker 2: be honest with you that I'm really looking forward to
- 8:59Speaker 2: in this tour is the longer form of the game.
- 9:01Speaker 2: You know, T20 is good stuff. But I just want
- 9:04Speaker 2: to get into the test matches.
- 9:05Speaker 7: I think they've definitely, like, you know, 2020, especially obviously
- 9:08Speaker 7: IPL and that team there specifically.
- 9:10Speaker 4: I don't think any of those guys will be, even
- 9:12Speaker 4: in the one-day team, I'm not sure.
- 9:13Speaker 2: That's unreal, isn't it? There's not a lot of crossovers.
- 9:14Speaker 4: They're like very specialist in there.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:18Speaker 3: How do you guys find that as cricket? Is it
- 9:21Speaker 3: a challenge to go from, you know, from T20 to
- 9:24Speaker 3: your test matches, a change of mentality?
- 9:26Speaker 2: Adam? That's probably not a question for me.
- 9:28Speaker 4: I'll move that on to John.
- 9:31Speaker 7: I always look at the three format guys out there.
- 9:32Speaker 7: So you've met Henry's, you've met Josh Hazelwood's. I reckon
- 9:35Speaker 7: those are the guys.
- 9:36Speaker 4: That you sort of aspire.
- 9:37Speaker 7: That's proper graph to go across the formats and be
- 9:40Speaker 7: the best in the world across the three formats. So
- 9:43Speaker 7: it is tough, but it demands different things physically and skill-wise.
- 9:46Speaker 7: So like I say, Abhishek Sharma only knows how to
- 9:50Speaker 7: play 20-20 cricket.
- 9:50Speaker 4: He totally ever trains. It's all he does.
- 9:52Speaker 7: All he does is try to hit sixes where we've
- 9:54Speaker 7: got to, I guess, diversify our skill set and stuff.
- 9:59Speaker 7: He's spending less time developing his skill.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Not Milne, per se.
- 10:02Speaker 7: I guess he's in that franchise world, so he's one
- 10:05Speaker 7: of the evil guys, but yeah, it is. It's a challenge,
- 10:09Speaker 7: but it's still something I want.
- 10:10Speaker 2: To aspire to be. I thought you were going to
- 10:12Speaker 2: say something.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Then, Kenzie.
- 10:15Speaker 8: Look, all I was going to say is good luck
- 10:16Speaker 8: for Friday night, fellas. Eden Park.
- 10:19Speaker 4: We'll be there, fellas.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Live. The big show will be there live.
- 10:22Speaker 3: I'll be taking notes.
- 10:23Speaker 8: We would have finished an hour before the game even starts,
- 10:25Speaker 8: but we will be there live. And don't forget, if
- 10:28Speaker 8: you're listening, 3483, give us a text if you'd like
- 10:30Speaker 8: a double pass to go and see that game. But
- 10:32Speaker 8: Jacob Duffy and Alan Milne, thank you so much for
- 10:35Speaker 8: joining us today.
- 10:37Speaker 2: You just got a new nickname for life, Alan. Sorry, man.
- 10:43Speaker 1: The Hodaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 10:46Speaker 1: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
