- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Let's talk about blame today. Boy, do we as human beings love
- 0:35to assign blame to things because, you know, it can be
- 0:40used as a noun or a verb. And, you know, I take the blame
- 0:44or I can say I'm going to blame this, blame it on the weather,
- 0:48blame it on this. I mean, I could sit here and
- 0:49give you 1,000,000 reasons why I have tomato plants that are
- 0:53acting the way that they are acting.
- 0:56And I could whine about it. I could keep complaining about
- 1:01it and I can keep blaming. But the reality is that
- 1:06sometimes they're just facts and their conditions and you can't
- 1:11just blame it away. You just have to sit there and
- 1:15sit, sit there with it and say, OK, rather than assigning blame,
- 1:19which is so important to us for some reason.
- 1:21And this isn't about, you know, denying that something is
- 1:24happening. It's about the assignment of it
- 1:27and then saying, well, you know, whatever.
- 1:30It's about looking at it and saying, OK, I have to find the
- 1:35lesson in this. I have to find the good in this.
- 1:37I have to find what I can do with this so that I am not going
- 1:41to be in this position of disempowerment because of
- 1:46something. So I'm sitting here at, at the
- 1:51coop, I'm looking at the garden because I can see it right from
- 1:54where I am. It's like diagonally across from
- 1:57the coop and I'm looking at it and I'm saying to myself, okay,
- 2:01you know, I, I have not had, I mean, it's July 1st.
- 2:05I have not had a bad season. I've had a pretty good season.
- 2:08Did I have the abundance of tomatoes that I wanted all at
- 2:11once? No, I did not.
- 2:14I would be lying if I said I did.
- 2:15I did not. I had a good amount of tomatoes,
- 2:19but I haven't had the abundance to make some of the stuff that I
- 2:22really wanted to have and some of that.
- 2:27We could blame it on the weather.
- 2:30We could blame it on the fact that we had soil that went into
- 2:35the bags that apparently had some of that weird funk in it.
- 2:39We could blame it on many, many little things.
- 2:42But the truth is, it's not going to help me get out of it.
- 2:45Assigning the blame isn't going to help me get out of it.
- 2:47Instead, I have to change my approach.
- 2:49So I've set up a shade station and I'm putting some of the
- 2:54tomatoes out of the bright sun. I had created a trellis.
- 3:00My son had built me this trellis in the garden that could kind of
- 3:03grow up. And I was growing these little
- 3:05tomatoes that I, I mean, these little cucumbers that I thought
- 3:07were just going to be a silly little thing.
- 3:09Turns out they're delicious. And I can't wait to grow more of
- 3:13them because I, I probably didn't, I thought they were
- 3:16going to get bigger, so I didn't pick them and then they went
- 3:18bad. But they're like, literally like
- 3:20the size of the tip of your pinky finger.
- 3:22They're small, but they're delicious Mexican gherkins, for
- 3:25those who are curious. And what actually ended up
- 3:28happening was they created the shade area for some of the
- 3:31tomatoes so that throughout the day they got some shade, which
- 3:34is what they need in this blazing heat and humidity.
- 3:38So I'm sitting here and I'm looking at it and I'm saying,
- 3:41OK, I'm not going to just sit here and be helpless or
- 3:45hopeless. I'm going to not assign blame.
- 3:49I'm just going to talk about what I can focus on.
- 3:52So right now I can focus on the abundance of Peppers.
- 3:54I can harvest a tremendous pepper crop.
- 3:58I replanted zucchini. I can replant cucumbers this
- 4:03weekend coming up. I have carrots that are growing,
- 4:06which I never successfully get carrots to grow, and I've got
- 4:09carrots that are successfully growing.
- 4:11I've got watermelons, two different kinds of watermelons.
- 4:15I've got these little, they're not like a cantaloupe, but
- 4:21they're like a tiny, tiny type of melon that has a light flavor
- 4:25of a cantaloupe. But they're, I think they're a
- 4:27Japanese melon. And I've got huckleberries that
- 4:30are in abundance and all kinds of other things.
- 4:33And I've got Zinnia that are growing and plenty of mint.
- 4:37And I can sit there and talk about all those other good
- 4:40things rather than a signing blame and getting out of that
- 4:44blame head and going to OK, I'm going to be curious about what
- 4:48are ways to cure these things instead of just hunkering down
- 4:52and just saying throwing my hands up in the air because I'm
- 4:55not going to give up. Part of my personality is being
- 4:59tenacious. I don't give up.
- 5:01Like unless somebody tells me they're throwing in the towel,
- 5:05like if I've got a client that says, listen, I'm just not going
- 5:07to work on this anymore. I don't want into it anymore.
- 5:09And I'm sure that they're at that point.
- 5:12That's their choice. But me personally, I don't like
- 5:15to give up. I just feel like, and it's not
- 5:18about giving up for me ever. I don't even like have that even
- 5:20hard to say those words because for me, it's always a curiosity.
- 5:23If the universe and God drop something in my head and it's
- 5:27there and it feels exciting and scary and I have to be creative
- 5:31and I have to do all those things to make it happen, then I
- 5:33know I'm supposed to make it happen.
- 5:34I know I'm supposed to work on it.
- 5:36And I know for sure without question that my curiosity will
- 5:40drive me and I will get somewhere with it.
- 5:42And that is part of that tenacious piece.
- 5:45It's just I have to be creative and I have to be curious to get
- 5:48past it. So blame, it doesn't feel right.
- 5:53It feels awkward. So take that into consideration.
- 5:57The next time you decide to blame somebody for something or
- 6:00a situation or anything, just stop and pause and be like,
- 6:03look, I'm not going to assign that word.
- 6:07I'm going to take a different approach because it rarely
- 6:09works. All right, my friends, I hope
- 6:12you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:14Bye.
