- 0:08Speaker 1: There's a great joke, why can the pony not do
- 0:11Speaker 1: karaoke because he's a little horse. Well, I'm a little horse.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Today.
- 0:16Speaker 1: We've got a big weekend. There's been a lot of
- 0:19Speaker 1: netball going on. We've got so much to talk about
- 0:22Speaker 1: your own No Dribble strap in.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to No Dribble, the.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Podcast where we talk about netball, but we talk about
- 0:40Speaker 1: so much more. My name's Carolyn Swindell.
- 0:42Speaker 3: I am cap Cox, and I'm a big horse.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I am Lizzellis and I am not a sorough bread.
- 0:50Speaker 1: And we are all in different parts of the world. Again,
- 0:53Speaker 1: Cati're at home in Sydney.
- 0:55Speaker 3: I am so everybody knows. We normally record on a Monday,
- 0:58Speaker 3: it's actually Sunday. Because we're so excited about the weekend
- 1:02Speaker 3: we wanted to talk about it a day early. So yes,
- 1:04Speaker 3: I've just flown back today and had all the brocas
- 1:08Speaker 3: and things this morning. And Liz, you're at home, and
- 1:12Speaker 3: I'm still in the world's darkest hotel room in Melbourne.
- 1:16Speaker 3: It's so Melbourne.
- 1:17Speaker 1: There's been a hair on my chin for days. I
- 1:20Speaker 1: can't find it because the fucking hotel is way too
- 1:22Speaker 1: dark for me.
- 1:23Speaker 3: You got enjoying the dark hotel though on a daylight today,
- 1:25Speaker 3: aren't you because you're a little bit dusty Springfield, Aren't you.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Little bit dusty Springfield today? I've enjoyed the end of
- 1:33Speaker 1: the Supernipal season very much.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Shall we just tell everybody how Carolyn explained her weekend
- 1:40Speaker 3: to us Live. I've had the best fucking weekend, So
- 1:48Speaker 3: we're there's sure there's some stories in there somewhere.
- 1:52Speaker 1: It's so fun.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I've got my hat on.
- 1:54Speaker 1: It was a great Grand Final. It was a better
- 1:56Speaker 1: Grand Final if you're a Thunderbirds fan than if you're
- 1:59Speaker 1: a Vixen's fan. But it's the best Grand Final is
- 2:03Speaker 1: if you don't have a team and you just love
- 2:04Speaker 1: netball home and you have Nikki Komwo Buckley next to you,
- 2:08Speaker 1: who thinks it's my job to make sure Carolyn never
- 2:10Speaker 1: runs out of chardna She's been treating me like I
- 2:13Speaker 1: am a professional chardonay drinker and she is part of
- 2:17Speaker 1: my coaching team and that she has to keep this up.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And I'm not. Let me explain to you. I'm an
- 2:22Speaker 1: enthusiastic amateur when it comes to chardonnay, but I have
- 2:25Speaker 1: been I have had a coaching team around me all weekend.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I feel like if you put it into maybe some
- 2:32Speaker 2: cycling plans, like the thing. One of the things I
- 2:34Speaker 2: like about cycling the Tory fronts is the identification of
- 2:37Speaker 2: the domestics and their job is to get the superstar
- 2:41Speaker 2: riders to where they need to beat the right time.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And I feel like you have a team of domestics
- 2:45Speaker 2: to go. We've got to get Carol as drunk as
- 2:47Speaker 2: we can at the right time, and off we go.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Does explain a little something that I saw on Facebook,
- 2:53Speaker 3: which we'll get to a bit later, but you look
- 2:56Speaker 3: very enthusiastic. Let's just say that it was.
- 2:59Speaker 1: So funn It's been a great, a great weekend, still
- 3:03Speaker 1: going anyway, We're I'm in Melbourne, but we started on
- 3:05Speaker 1: Friday night.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I was buzzing.
- 3:09Speaker 3: I met Gordy in the flaya of the hotel at
- 3:11Speaker 3: quarter to four so we could come down and help
- 3:12Speaker 3: you set up and stuff. And we were both just
- 3:16Speaker 3: buzzy because we knew it was going to be a
- 3:18Speaker 3: great room full of people that were super excited to
- 3:20Speaker 3: be in Melbourne and to be there for the game
- 3:22Speaker 3: and stuff. And weren't they as soon as they walked
- 3:25Speaker 3: in the door.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Everyone was absolutely prime and we're at the Quarterhouse, which
- 3:30Speaker 1: is down They said the address is Docklands, but it's
- 3:33Speaker 1: not really. Yeah, it's the at bottom end of Collins Street,
- 3:37Speaker 1: opposite the is it called Southern Cross Station. I still
- 3:40Speaker 1: call it Spencer Street because I lived here in the nineties,
- 3:42Speaker 1: but I think it's called Southern Cross Station now, right
- 3:45Speaker 1: opposite their fantastic venue. I cannot thank the team there
- 3:49Speaker 1: enough for an amazing job that they did. But yeah,
- 3:53Speaker 1: Friday night, I flew from Sydney to Melbourne. There were
- 3:57Speaker 1: a lot of flight delays, thirsty nine kilos of luggage
- 4:02Speaker 1: and I dragged all of this stuff up to the
- 4:04Speaker 1: hotel my mate's flight. My one of my best friends,
- 4:08Speaker 1: Lee from Canberra, was coming down to spend the weekend
- 4:10Speaker 1: with me. Her flight ended up being canceled and she
- 4:13Speaker 1: was one of my roadies. So I had to get
- 4:15Speaker 1: all of this stuff to the venue by myself. And meanwhile,
- 4:19Speaker 1: I'm on the tram, I'm sweaty, I have got no
- 4:23Speaker 1: makeup on stripping off me. Well, I had to get it.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Well.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It was like I'm in the city, so it's not
- 4:29Speaker 1: far enough for a taxi. Really and it was like
- 4:31Speaker 1: I was going to have to walk to get a taxi,
- 4:33Speaker 1: but I thought if I could get to Colin Street,
- 4:35Speaker 1: then I'm straight on. But then I see photos of
- 4:38Speaker 1: Liz Elli's looking like a supermodel because she's been on
- 4:42Speaker 1: TV that morning and so had had all of the
- 4:46Speaker 1: You had some magical assistance there. Obviously they've got a
- 4:50Speaker 1: good raw material to work with.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I had an hour of scaffolding, like, I don't wake
- 4:55Speaker 2: up looking like that. I mean, anyone had podcast knows
- 4:59Speaker 2: that this is what I look.
- 5:01Speaker 1: But then I see Catherine Goes. I was able to
- 5:03Speaker 1: just do carry on luggage from my.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Flight, well, yeah, it was until I had to leg
- 5:08Speaker 3: it because they called me for the flight I was. Anyway,
- 5:13Speaker 3: long story short, I ended up having to call me
- 5:15Speaker 3: over the PA, so I had to leg it to
- 5:16Speaker 3: the plane with my carry on. But by the time
- 5:18Speaker 3: I got there, because all the flights around me had
- 5:20Speaker 3: been canceled, as was Choppers, there was no room for
- 5:24Speaker 3: my carry on, so I had to check the thing in.
- 5:27Speaker 3: So it was such a balls up.
- 5:29Speaker 2: But that was a fail, but at least they.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Got it on right.
- 5:32Speaker 3: They did.
- 5:33Speaker 1: There are a number of people who didn't make it
- 5:35Speaker 1: which was really sad. And we had some friends from Maitland.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I'm sorry forgotten their names, but I do know that
- 5:40Speaker 1: they're from the Maitland meer Cats who have just won
- 5:44Speaker 1: something at senior state titles and they had excellent little
- 5:47Speaker 1: meer cat tattoos. I got one of my room go
- 5:51Speaker 1: to Maitland meer Cats.
- 5:53Speaker 3: That particular tattoo.
- 5:56Speaker 2: What might you do is that particular photos? Well, because we.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Were chatting about people getting winning premierships and getting tattoos, remember,
- 6:03Speaker 3: and no one had said that they had got one,
- 6:05Speaker 3: and I know it wasn't the full big Bulldog's logo
- 6:09Speaker 3: or whatever it was, but I thought, oh, finally we've
- 6:11Speaker 3: got one. I'll take a potto of that and I'll
- 6:12Speaker 3: show the goals.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that was cool.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Well, you, Liz had to do a mere cat reenactment
- 6:18Speaker 1: for them for their clubs.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I got critiqued. It was you that critese me. You
- 6:23Speaker 2: told me, well, I look so not quite good enough.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I had to be No, you.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Were too you were too pouncy. You need to keep
- 6:29Speaker 1: your look. You might know you can give me feedback
- 6:33Speaker 1: on how to do a giraffe impersonation. But meer Cats,
- 6:36Speaker 1: that's probably my spirit animal.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I love cats.
- 6:41Speaker 3: The best anyway, how good was then my favorite thing
- 6:45Speaker 3: of all of the whole night, if we had to
- 6:46Speaker 3: pick one, was Patrick the Mottman making a little cameo.
- 6:51Speaker 3: And then you had been behind the scenes with Gordy
- 6:54Speaker 3: learning the routine. Unbeknowns to us. I thought that you
- 6:59Speaker 3: would know what it was because you two had been
- 7:01Speaker 3: in gohops. But when Gordy started doing I was like,
- 7:04Speaker 3: hang on a minute, what is going on here? Is
- 7:06Speaker 3: she just I meant to know?
- 7:08Speaker 2: And you got up a dads, I love that, Catherine.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I didn't know that until I saw videos afterwards, But yeah,
- 7:12Speaker 1: thank you to Patrick. And this is for those who
- 7:14Speaker 1: were there in the room on Friday night. And there's
- 7:16Speaker 1: some video, not a lot around because we do ask
- 7:19Speaker 1: people who come to the events, can we not video
- 7:21Speaker 1: it because we really don't want what Liz Ellison Cathcox
- 7:25Speaker 1: might say on this panel going out into the whole
- 7:28Speaker 1: wide world.
- 7:29Speaker 3: But there was a lot of bit with it to
- 7:31Speaker 3: worry about.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Jesus, Gordy got a bit loose, But yeah, so we
- 7:38Speaker 1: had and this is the one thing as a Swifts fan,
- 7:41Speaker 1: obviously we haven't had to worry about being in a
- 7:43Speaker 1: grand final now for a couple of years. But the
- 7:45Speaker 1: one thing that swifts fans know that we are the
- 7:49Speaker 1: absolute premiers in is our mockman. Everybody wants Patrick the
- 7:53Speaker 1: mock man. So he got up, he did a dance
- 7:56Speaker 1: for us to Proud Mary. He'd sent it through, so
- 7:58Speaker 1: I sent it through to Gordy and said, what about
- 8:01Speaker 1: we just learned this and we're our backup dances. So
- 8:04Speaker 1: he was our Beyonce.
- 8:05Speaker 2: So when he came up, I thought, okay, he will
- 8:08Speaker 2: do something cool and dancing. And then when you guys
- 8:13Speaker 2: started and newsood next time, I thought, oh, this makes
- 8:15Speaker 2: sense because obviously you and him had organized something like
- 8:19Speaker 2: kaf said. When Gordy jumped up for the first ten seconds,
- 8:23Speaker 2: I was like, oh, she's following this really well. She's
- 8:25Speaker 2: a free drip. So and then it clicked. I was like,
- 8:28Speaker 2: oh my god, Elizabeth, you're an idiot. So then and
- 8:31Speaker 2: I was laughing because remember when we did the Centurions CAF,
- 8:35Speaker 2: Gordy made us do some dancing, and like, you got
- 8:40Speaker 2: up a dance and you actually did a good job.
- 8:42Speaker 2: There was a reason why I sat there and clapped right.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I am the biggest whitest girl on the planet when
- 8:47Speaker 2: it came with two left feet. When it comes to dancing,
- 8:49Speaker 2: and you know, years ago Plumb used to remember before
- 8:54Speaker 2: like the two thousand and seven World Cups, she wanted us.
- 8:56Speaker 2: She got this woman in who was a great dancer
- 8:58Speaker 2: and to sort of teach us a bit of hip
- 8:59Speaker 2: hop dance. Seeing she wanted us to mix up our
- 9:02Speaker 2: warm ups. And I just had a face like a stone.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I was like, I am not daxing because I just can't.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And I was just laughing at that, thinking about when
- 9:12Speaker 2: when Gordy made us dance for the Centurions and we
- 9:15Speaker 2: had to learn something and made.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Us not Yeah, she made us have lessons. It wasn't
- 9:20Speaker 3: just a case of this is roughly what we'll do
- 9:22Speaker 3: and get up on the stage. We had lessons. She
- 9:25Speaker 3: sent us the music. We had to practice it at home.
- 9:28Speaker 2: There was a nowhere. Yeah, put your hands up if
- 9:31Speaker 2: you didn't practice it at home.
- 9:33Speaker 3: I did. I did because I didn't want to look
- 9:37Speaker 3: ridiculous on a stage that a sold out theater. That's
- 9:40Speaker 3: the only reason. And as it turns out, I did anyway.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm from bitter experience only that no matter how
- 9:45Speaker 2: much I practiced, there was no way it's going to
- 9:47Speaker 2: make any difference on the night. But we had to
- 9:49Speaker 2: go to Melbourne for a weekend and get coached by
- 9:52Speaker 2: Gordie's late mum and Bev, and she has a background
- 9:58Speaker 2: in physical culture. Yeah. Yeah, so we got put through that.
- 10:04Speaker 2: We got put through the Fizzy motions. Like I dodged Fizzy,
- 10:08Speaker 2: my cousins did Fizzy. And when I used to be
- 10:11Speaker 2: on the board of the State Sports Center, I used
- 10:12Speaker 2: to go down and I'd see all I couldn't figure out.
- 10:15Speaker 2: One day I turned up and there was all these
- 10:16Speaker 2: young ladies there with parasol tracksuits on and heels and
- 10:20Speaker 2: makeup and hand. I was like, what he's going on?
- 10:22Speaker 2: And then I got in there and I'm like, oh,
- 10:24Speaker 2: it's Phizzy. Okay, I get it now, leaving training should
- 10:30Speaker 2: look much more put together than that cat hi ann. Yeah,
- 10:34Speaker 2: we love any so yeah, so we had to We
- 10:37Speaker 2: got Bev, put us through Bev Gordy and put us
- 10:39Speaker 2: through the absolute ringer on the weekend. And I just
- 10:42Speaker 2: remember her face looking at me and probably you Catherine,
- 10:45Speaker 2: going I've got nothing to work with here. This is
- 10:50Speaker 2: whereas Gorde he's so creative and she can sing and
- 10:52Speaker 2: she can do.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Charres coordinated yea fine, yeah, and anyway, then they.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Made I contacted Aughady last week and it was after
- 11:01Speaker 1: the game, and I thought, I don't know how much
- 11:03Speaker 1: time I need to give her to kind of heal
- 11:06Speaker 1: after after the semi final, right because the fever was
- 11:10Speaker 1: a crushing disappointment for them and whatever, And I thought,
- 11:13Speaker 1: I don't know whether this idea will cheer her up
- 11:16Speaker 1: or whether it's just one too many things. So I
- 11:19Speaker 1: sent her a note how are you? And she's like, oh,
- 11:21Speaker 1: I'm just about to watch the game again, And I said, oh,
- 11:25Speaker 1: you got any bandwidth to be involved in a little prank?
- 11:28Speaker 2: But yes, what is it?
- 11:30Speaker 1: Oh?
- 11:30Speaker 2: Right? In absolutely earlier.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Because the idea was we were going to teach it
- 11:35Speaker 1: to the room, and but then when we got there,
- 11:38Speaker 1: realized there's not enough space for this. There's probably not
- 11:40Speaker 1: enough time in the program. So it's like, we'll just
- 11:42Speaker 1: do it and hopefully everyone will get involved. But the
- 11:45Speaker 1: idea was that Patrick would do it once and then
- 11:48Speaker 1: Gordy and I would go, oh, yeah, I think I've
- 11:50Speaker 1: got it. Let me just give it a go and
- 11:52Speaker 1: then get out and do it and then go to you, guys,
- 11:54Speaker 1: have you got it now you've seen it twice, and
- 11:56Speaker 1: then make you try to do it. So it was
- 11:59Speaker 1: it a ritual humiliation amongst dear friends, which is I
- 12:04Speaker 1: think part of the best conrect of our relationship. But
- 12:08Speaker 1: write in for it, right.
- 12:09Speaker 2: I don't think that we have enough insurance for Catherine
- 12:11Speaker 2: and I to be dancing in a place where there's
- 12:13Speaker 2: the general public.
- 12:15Speaker 3: I did actually worry when I had to do the
- 12:17Speaker 3: trainy bit because I was on the stage, like this
- 12:19Speaker 3: is going to end badly. I feel it. I'm just
- 12:21Speaker 3: going to turn off the end of the story.
- 12:25Speaker 1: It was very fun. Look, it wasn't Taylor Swift's wedding,
- 12:28Speaker 1: but it felt like it, to be honest, you know
- 12:31Speaker 1: it was and the next best thing.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Yeah, And I loved just chatting to all the dribblers
- 12:35Speaker 2: and getting to people and just hearing like how people
- 12:39Speaker 2: have found the podcast and how they've got involved in netball.
- 12:42Speaker 2: And I must say sometimes in my rollers chair, things
- 12:45Speaker 2: are going to be overwhelming because there's a lot to
- 12:47Speaker 2: do and I wonder why I'm doing it. Then I
- 12:51Speaker 2: go to an event like we had on Friday night,
- 12:53Speaker 2: and I'm like, this is why I'm doing it, dribblers.
- 12:55Speaker 1: A great yeah, great, wonderful, great start to the weekend.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Can we just give a little vote of thanks also too,
- 13:02Speaker 1: so Darryl Milton stats man. Darryl obviously does a lot
- 13:06Speaker 1: for our Facebook group, particularly he helped us out on
- 13:09Speaker 1: the night, was involved in a in a quiz, but
- 13:12Speaker 1: we had a winner of our tipping comp Leanne Hopkins.
- 13:15Speaker 1: But we also had the golden Turkey winner being Nicki
- 13:17Speaker 1: Conway Buckley and Sharon her wife, And they contacted me
- 13:21Speaker 1: earlier in the day and said, Hey, we're in town,
- 13:23Speaker 1: do you want any help? And then my mate's flight
- 13:26Speaker 1: had been canceled. It's like she was my roadie. We
- 13:28Speaker 1: were going to do this together. We were going to
- 13:30Speaker 1: put together all the goodie bags. So they saved our
- 13:33Speaker 1: bacon by making themselves available. They ran the door. Thank
- 13:37Speaker 1: you so much. And as I said, Nikki was the
- 13:40Speaker 1: self appointed a drinks provider for the three of us
- 13:43Speaker 1: and for Gordy, and no one has ever done their
- 13:47Speaker 1: job more diligently and enthusiastically than she has in that
- 13:51Speaker 1: self appointed role.
- 13:52Speaker 2: This is true. And she also helped the meat Troy
- 13:54Speaker 2: play catch up when he got there. After his first
- 13:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 13:58Speaker 3: But I also know on Facebook yesterday and today her
- 14:04Speaker 3: little award winning turkey has been making the rounds. Did
- 14:08Speaker 3: you see mister Gobble? Mister gobbles? So, yes, he was
- 14:11Speaker 3: at the game last night, he toured around Melbourne. Yes,
- 14:15Speaker 3: he's quite the celebrity. Yeah, someone spotted him and put
- 14:18Speaker 3: a photo of him on Facebook too, did you see that?
- 14:20Speaker 2: Seriously? Where's Wally?
- 14:26Speaker 1: But look there was also netball on the weekend, so
- 14:30Speaker 1: maybe we should take just a little break and then
- 14:32Speaker 1: come back and talk about the netball. I don't know
- 14:34Speaker 1: whether you guys have heard about this, but we should
- 14:36Speaker 1: talk about it was a Grand Final, Stuart. Okay, so
- 14:52Speaker 1: the town has been painted pink. Melbourne has been taken over.
- 14:56Speaker 1: It is now the keys of the city are being
- 14:58Speaker 1: handed to the fans from laid because that was an
- 15:02Speaker 1: extraordinary performance by the adelaide hunderboots.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Has your son just walked in with a cup of
- 15:08Speaker 3: tea for you?
- 15:10Speaker 1: Oh? Nice, it's got fine on it?
- 15:12Speaker 3: Is that a hot chocolate?
- 15:13Speaker 2: It's a hot chocolate with the world's biggest marshmallow in it.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Oh one, we have five shut up. Maybe he just
- 15:23Speaker 2: would have that in a second I have been away
- 15:26Speaker 2: for three nights and Cas got home and had enough
- 15:29Speaker 2: time to say hello and have a little cuddle.
- 15:32Speaker 3: But you know, mummies best jealous.
- 15:38Speaker 1: We're grateful that you have given us your time, and
- 15:41Speaker 1: we should yeah, crack on so you can get back
- 15:44Speaker 1: to doing something making slurpy noises like.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Before we get to the actual game. I want to
- 15:50Speaker 3: know what everyone's day looks like, because after the event
- 15:53Speaker 3: on Friday night, we all went our separate ways and
- 15:55Speaker 3: then didn't see each other again.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Well, we did go.
- 15:58Speaker 1: We had a lovely dinner. We had a nice, a
- 16:00Speaker 1: nice sedate dinner.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Yes, yes, but I mean the next day, So Liz,
- 16:04Speaker 3: what did you do? Well?
- 16:06Speaker 2: Can I just go back to dinner? It was a lovely,
- 16:08Speaker 2: sadate dinner. But after Nikki came away Buckley and helped
- 16:10Speaker 2: the meatro play catch up. I did see Carolyn surreptitiously
- 16:13Speaker 2: pour half a glass of red wine of her red
- 16:15Speaker 2: wine into Matthew's glass. He didn't even notice. He was
- 16:18Speaker 2: drank the light and I was like, oh, he's going
- 16:20Speaker 2: to snore anyway. So Saturday morning, do you know what?
- 16:27Speaker 2: We actually had a really nice sleep in Last year,
- 16:28Speaker 2: I had to get up and do media, but I
- 16:31Speaker 2: did it on Friday. So on Friday morning, I got
- 16:34Speaker 2: up at quarter to five Friday morning and then so
- 16:37Speaker 2: I was happy that I got to have a little
- 16:38Speaker 2: sleeping with the meat train on Saturday morning. And then
- 16:41Speaker 2: we went for a wanderer around Fitzroy where we were
- 16:43Speaker 2: staying and had a nice breakfast. So that was a
- 16:45Speaker 2: nice date way to start the day. But then I
- 16:47Speaker 2: got to the lunch too. I had to do a
- 16:49Speaker 2: sound check for my speech. So the big Grand Final lunch,
- 16:51Speaker 2: there are a thousand people in the room. So there's
- 16:54Speaker 2: still a bit of debate about, you know, why do
- 16:57Speaker 2: we have the Grand Final in the place where it
- 17:00Speaker 2: might not like the winning team the first team to
- 17:02Speaker 2: win major semi final should go through, And I get
- 17:05Speaker 2: that right, but I will say that the ability to
- 17:09Speaker 2: be able to have a big lunch to get in
- 17:11Speaker 2: the diaries of corporates and politicians because they're the people
- 17:14Speaker 2: that you want coming to our gauge as well. So
- 17:16Speaker 2: I sat next to the Victorian premiere at lunch and
- 17:19Speaker 2: got to talk to her about all the great things
- 17:20Speaker 2: that you know netball does, and you know, there was
- 17:23Speaker 2: a great panel. There was a couple of really good
- 17:27Speaker 2: panels at that lunch, so you don't get to do
- 17:30Speaker 2: all that if you're trying to scramble with two weeks.
- 17:32Speaker 2: This is like the events team. This finishes, and actually
- 17:36Speaker 2: as soon as the test matches finish, they're already thinking
- 17:39Speaker 2: about the grand final lunch for next year and what
- 17:41Speaker 2: it's going to look like. And you've got to get
- 17:43Speaker 2: into polyeagues. Sort of baries nice and early. But at
- 17:46Speaker 2: the lunch there was we got both coaches, so Die
- 17:50Speaker 2: Honey and Tanya Obs came and spoke, which was great.
- 17:52Speaker 2: We had no no, but she was. It was towards
- 17:56Speaker 2: the end of the lunch, and she was a bit
- 17:58Speaker 2: like she was like yeah, so she said that, so
- 18:03Speaker 2: and funny she was. And I don't know if it's
- 18:04Speaker 2: because she was late or if she was really but
- 18:07Speaker 2: she was really nervous. Like normally she's such a relaxed, funny, happy,
- 18:12Speaker 2: viby sort of woman, but she was. You could see
- 18:14Speaker 2: on stage she was really nervous. And and Die was
- 18:17Speaker 2: the opposite. I had almost gone almost like full dry, funny,
- 18:22Speaker 2: not giving away too much. So they were real studying contrasts.
- 18:26Speaker 2: That was great. We had a media panel.
- 18:28Speaker 1: It's interesting you would expect it to be the other
- 18:30Speaker 1: way around, right, This is China, obst is no stranger
- 18:33Speaker 1: to being a coach in a Grand final. So yeah,
- 18:37Speaker 1: interesting that that die. This is her first time, and
- 18:40Speaker 1: she was sort of more relaxed in that moment.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I had been there before last year,
- 18:45Speaker 2: I guess, but she was like, yeah, she was just
- 18:48Speaker 2: really but it was like it was almost like she
- 18:50Speaker 2: was so I don't know if she was relaxed, but
- 18:52Speaker 2: she was really wasn't giving away too much. So it
- 18:55Speaker 2: was Yeah, and they're pretty funny. They're great and you know,
- 18:58Speaker 2: they get along really well, so you know that there
- 18:59Speaker 2: wasn't and beadie barbes between them or anything like that.
- 19:02Speaker 2: So they were great. And then there was a media
- 19:04Speaker 2: panel which had Sue Gordion our very own Gordy the
- 19:06Speaker 2: Dribbler's own Gordy, and Sarah Jones from Fox Foodie and
- 19:11Speaker 2: Georgia Ragiic from SEM. They were fantastic and Sarah was great.
- 19:15Speaker 2: She talked about her little girls and she said, you
- 19:17Speaker 2: could sell water with you know, using any of the
- 19:21Speaker 2: netball players, and my daughters are buy it. So if
- 19:23Speaker 2: you're thinking about spending money on netball, do. So she
- 19:26Speaker 2: was great. And then we had a past players panel,
- 19:29Speaker 2: so it was Shay Boton Brown, capn Platt, Twaits and
- 19:35Speaker 2: Aaron bell So and they were great again because you know,
- 19:38Speaker 2: is with the Thunderbirds, so she was able to give
- 19:40Speaker 2: you know a bit of that background and you know,
- 19:43Speaker 2: Katie sort of won premierships with the Vixen's and has
- 19:46Speaker 2: worked in commentary so that they were and has played
- 19:48Speaker 2: in grand finals. And Shay was fantastic. She's just you
- 19:52Speaker 2: get a real sense of why the mAbs have done
- 19:54Speaker 2: what they've done because she's you know, she spoke, I
- 19:57Speaker 2: just want more. I want more of this, and I
- 19:58Speaker 2: want more of that, and I want more teams, I
- 20:00Speaker 2: want more netball, and she was so enthusiastic and passionate
- 20:03Speaker 2: you could just see why she's you know, she's been
- 20:05Speaker 2: such a force to be reckoned with in her role
- 20:07Speaker 2: at the Maps. So that was grace moving on from that,
- 20:10Speaker 2: isn't she Yes, Yeah, she's just resigned, so I don't
- 20:14Speaker 2: know what, do you know, anyone know where she's going?
- 20:15Speaker 2: Is that sort of she made a new decisions yet, right?
- 20:18Speaker 1: So that's a loss though, what an amazing amount of
- 20:22Speaker 1: energy she has brought to that and you know, not
- 20:25Speaker 1: only on court, the maps this year have really I
- 20:27Speaker 1: think forged a great identity for themselves as a club,
- 20:31Speaker 1: and you know, a real personality in their social media.
- 20:33Speaker 1: You know, I talk about this every week. I think
- 20:35Speaker 1: they've done an amazing job. But you know, she can
- 20:38Speaker 1: take a real bow for a lot of that, can't she.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Yep, it's just amazing. So she was fantastic. So we
- 20:42Speaker 2: had lots of good panels. Kelsey Brown was one of
- 20:45Speaker 2: the MC's and she interviewed Plum. So anytime you get
- 20:48Speaker 2: Plum being interviewed, it's always worth listening to ahead. I
- 20:51Speaker 2: was sitting next to the premiere and the premier is like, oh,
- 20:54Speaker 2: she's just grapes, so you should get her into REVAP
- 20:56Speaker 2: your parliamentary team. We'll see that happens. And you imagine, yeah,
- 21:01Speaker 2: so yeah, I can't imagine. So and then by the
- 21:05Speaker 2: time the lunch finishes and you go out and you
- 21:06Speaker 2: talk to people and I don't know that it was
- 21:08Speaker 2: just one to the game. So and then after the
- 21:11Speaker 2: game again you'd gas bag into people. And then I
- 21:14Speaker 2: went and had a nice, quite glass of wine with
- 21:17Speaker 2: the former teammate of ours, Catherine and got to bed
- 21:19Speaker 2: at one o'clock. It's a massive day. Your day would
- 21:22Speaker 2: have been massive.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Tied to U start, so I had to be there
- 21:27Speaker 1: at three.
- 21:28Speaker 3: But Gordy and I got up and had breaky in
- 21:29Speaker 3: the morning with a lovely breaky with a made of
- 21:32Speaker 3: ours just in Richmond somewhere, and then just went back
- 21:35Speaker 3: to my room and tried to get my head around
- 21:37Speaker 3: notes and stats and all that sort of stuff, just
- 21:41Speaker 3: as a final time take it all in Gordon. I
- 21:43Speaker 3: went to the game hair and makeup. Then we had
- 21:45Speaker 3: production meetings. But because we have an hour's pre game
- 21:49Speaker 3: on a grand final day, that's also an hour of
- 21:52Speaker 3: rehearsals for those two segments. We did a thing outside
- 21:56Speaker 3: and then we moved into John Cain and we did
- 21:58Speaker 3: a thing inside. So it's a couple of hours of
- 22:01Speaker 3: all the sort of the pregame stuff and the rehearsals
- 22:04Speaker 3: and all of that before you even get on air.
- 22:06Speaker 3: So a bit it was a big day. We finished.
- 22:08Speaker 3: We only just walked out of the stadium just before midnight,
- 22:11Speaker 3: so it was big. But it flew. It absolutely flew
- 22:17Speaker 3: by nuts and then Swindle, what were you up to?
- 22:20Speaker 3: Because by the look of the dancing, I saw there
- 22:23Speaker 3: must have been some more ingesting of alcohol, so.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I had a fairly sedate day. My friends finally arrived
- 22:30Speaker 1: at about lunchtime. I went to the gym in the morning,
- 22:32Speaker 1: and then I went and caught up with NICKI and
- 22:33Speaker 1: Sharon had taken all the stuff home from the fanction
- 22:36Speaker 1: on Friday night. I said to me, no, you go
- 22:38Speaker 1: to dinner. We'll deal with this. I don't know what
- 22:41Speaker 1: I have done in a past life to deserve this
- 22:43Speaker 1: much amazes but thank you. They are just such givers.
- 22:47Speaker 1: So I caught up with them and got the stuff back,
- 22:49Speaker 1: and we had a coffee and sort of a few
- 22:51Speaker 1: laughs about the night before, and then my friend arrived.
- 22:54Speaker 1: We went out for lunch. We went shopping, just had
- 22:57Speaker 1: a bit of a snooze, and then wandered over. We
- 22:59Speaker 1: didn't get over to John Canerna until about five thirty.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I decided I wasn't going to go to the lunch,
- 23:06Speaker 1: but it was.
- 23:07Speaker 2: It was great.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Went into John caneren and then immediately thought we should
- 23:10Speaker 1: go to the bathroom. Now while there's no queue, some genius.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Fifty six years I've been on this planet, I have
- 23:17Speaker 1: not seen this, but someone went Hey, this is an
- 23:21Speaker 1: event where we're going to have mostly women. What if
- 23:23Speaker 1: we took half of the men's toilets and re designated
- 23:28Speaker 1: them as women's toilets for the night, so that actually
- 23:31Speaker 1: the facilities meet the people who are at the event. Like,
- 23:36Speaker 1: how many times have you stood in a long queue
- 23:38Speaker 1: and then you see the blokes just walk straight up
- 23:41Speaker 1: and you think I could just go in there to
- 23:42Speaker 1: the bathroom. Oh, and I quite often have, yeah, likewise,
- 23:46Speaker 1: but like I just thought that was just that's just
- 23:49Speaker 1: such great common scense. That is a really great ad
- 23:54Speaker 1: for the night, that it was able to go in
- 23:57Speaker 1: go to the bathroom. And after that everything got a
- 24:01Speaker 1: bit hazy. I've got to say, let me help you
- 24:04Speaker 1: out though.
- 24:04Speaker 2: At the end of the game, I was standing talking
- 24:07Speaker 2: to someone in like the VVP area, and next minute
- 24:11Speaker 2: Carolyn standing next to me, and I knew that you
- 24:13Speaker 2: had been on the other side of the stadium behind defence. Yeah,
- 24:17Speaker 2: And I'm like, how did you get here? You're like,
- 24:20Speaker 2: I'm just seeing how far I can get before someone
- 24:22Speaker 2: stopped me.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Oh my god, And she got right up to you,
- 24:26Speaker 3: to the chair.
- 24:27Speaker 2: To me, I had the whole way around the.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I knew that the security guard near us. So this
- 24:34Speaker 1: was at the end of the game. We'd been talking
- 24:37Speaker 1: to this lovely security guard the whole way through. She
- 24:39Speaker 1: did a fantastic job of doing her job and enforcing it,
- 24:41Speaker 1: but without making it really sort of unpleasant or dictatorial
- 24:46Speaker 1: or whatever. But I just said, she's gonna look that way.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I'm going to step down and see her around the court.
- 24:53Speaker 1: So I got up to Liz. Liz is there talking
- 24:55Speaker 1: to el Moray. Snapped a couple of photos of that,
- 24:58Speaker 1: and thought, no one's following me. And then I kept
- 25:01Speaker 1: walking around and then I'm right in the middle of
- 25:03Speaker 1: the teabirds thing and I saw Jane Oldschwagen. Went up
- 25:06Speaker 1: to her and said hello, and you know, they're obviously
- 25:08Speaker 1: very happy. And I said to her, I'm not supposed
- 25:11Speaker 1: to be here, and she said, I know. And then
- 25:13Speaker 1: she looks at me, and I'm wearing a Vixen scuff.
- 25:15Speaker 1: She said, what's this And I said, I've got a
- 25:16Speaker 1: pink shirt on and a Vixen scuff. So I'm I'm
- 25:19Speaker 1: supporting both teams. I'm just supporting good netball. And then
- 25:22Speaker 1: I just thought, well, I'll pass on through here, and
- 25:25Speaker 1: I walked the whole way around the court and just
- 25:28Speaker 1: back up and sat in my seat.
- 25:30Speaker 3: So see, people our size can't be that still, yeah, well.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I think this is part of it. My mate said
- 25:37Speaker 1: that she lost sight of me at one stage, like
- 25:42Speaker 1: among but yeah, but I was in one of these
- 25:45Speaker 1: open court side boxes and this was this was bad
- 25:49Speaker 1: because it's like, here's a barcode, so in the price
- 25:52Speaker 1: of the ticket with some food and drinks, and it's like,
- 25:54Speaker 1: here's a barcode. Scan this when you want to drink,
- 25:56Speaker 1: and they'll bring it to you. So I didn't have
- 25:58Speaker 1: to get out of my seat. I didn't have to
- 26:00Speaker 1: go and queue up anywhere because I just I just
- 26:03Speaker 1: don't bother drinking that much during the game, because like,
- 26:05Speaker 1: I'm here to watch the net ball. But when there's
- 26:07Speaker 1: a barcode and someone brings it up to you and
- 26:10Speaker 1: again thank you, Nikki was doing the ordering for us,
- 26:13Speaker 1: but like someone and then you had to put your
- 26:15Speaker 1: name on it, and so someone would come up and go,
- 26:17Speaker 1: I've got some chardonnais for Queen Carol, and so look,
- 26:20Speaker 1: this is not good for my already inflated ego at.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Okay, now, so this is where I think Alex needs
- 26:27Speaker 3: to drop in the vision that somebody took at you
- 26:31Speaker 3: during the game because you were going hard at to
- 26:35Speaker 3: some abba. I think it might have been at the time.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Yep.
- 26:37Speaker 3: Yeah, like I think you even had your eyes closed,
- 26:40Speaker 3: you know, getting right into.
- 26:41Speaker 1: It in my moment, Alex, I'll help you, I'll help you.
- 26:45Speaker 1: I'll point you to that. Yeah, but no, it was.
- 26:48Speaker 1: It was very fun. And then afterwards we picked up
- 26:51Speaker 1: some dribblers outside the stadium. We got on a tram.
- 26:54Speaker 1: We ended up at Young and Jackson's. Now, if you
- 26:57Speaker 1: know Melbourne or you know this is of all the
- 27:00Speaker 1: beautiful food and wine and wonderful places you could go,
- 27:04Speaker 1: this is the skeaziest joint in the entire city. And
- 27:08Speaker 1: we stayed there until they kicked us out. And then
- 27:11Speaker 1: Lee and I came back and we were in the
- 27:13Speaker 1: hotel room and went, oh, we were going to have
- 27:14Speaker 1: agadashi tofu for dinner. Now I thought the game would
- 27:17Speaker 1: be over ten o'clock we'd go out for a nice
- 27:19Speaker 1: little Japanese dinner. So at one o'clock we pulled on
- 27:22Speaker 1: some clothes over our pajamas and went out looking for
- 27:24Speaker 1: some tofu. And we couldn't find it, but we did
- 27:26Speaker 1: find some really nice meat on a stick. So I
- 27:29Speaker 1: feel like I feel like I'm twenty two again, twenty two,
- 27:32Speaker 1: but with a budget of a fifty six year old.
- 27:34Speaker 1: It's very dangerous.
- 27:35Speaker 3: So sous feed on a stick. Yeah, it's harta from
- 27:40Speaker 3: the initial protein Catherine.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Women of a certain age need to be very careful
- 27:45Speaker 1: with their protein intake. We've got to make sure we're
- 27:48Speaker 1: having enough. But in between all of that was the
- 27:52Speaker 1: Game of Network.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Yeah apparently, isn't it a paralyzed no? And you know,
- 27:58Speaker 2: at the lunch of people are asked to give their prediction,
- 28:02Speaker 2: and a number of people chose Vixen's like in overtime,
- 28:08Speaker 2: and the only person who went close was Aaron Bell.
- 28:10Speaker 2: She said Thunderbirds by eight, and I reckon. I was
- 28:15Speaker 2: a bit like, oh, I think it'll be a close game. Well,
- 28:17Speaker 2: I wants a close game. But when you look back
- 28:19Speaker 2: and you look at the formula, you're like, what on
- 28:21Speaker 2: earth were we thinking that it was going to be?
- 28:23Speaker 2: Isn't it Thunderbirds? And the thing that I think the
- 28:26Speaker 2: rest of the competition should be really worried about is
- 28:29Speaker 2: the fact that this Thunderbirds team is not only unbelievable,
- 28:33Speaker 2: they're young.
- 28:35Speaker 1: And they look like they want to stay together as
- 28:38Speaker 1: a team. Don't whenever we can start signings that they'll
- 28:42Speaker 1: be going. Yeah, absolutely, pick me again, Thank you very much.
- 28:45Speaker 1: I would love to sign up for another season of this.
- 28:48Speaker 3: I agree. I would be nervous, nervous if I was
- 28:50Speaker 3: telling you though, because people will want a lot of
- 28:53Speaker 3: those players in there. But you're right that they are happy.
- 28:55Speaker 3: And I think the biggest thing with players moving is
- 28:57Speaker 3: they're either not happy or they want more court time.
- 29:00Speaker 3: But she has been so every game has been barely
- 29:05Speaker 3: balanced with the court time with all of those players.
- 29:08Speaker 3: So they get court time, it's not necessarily for sixty minutes,
- 29:11Speaker 3: but every day, and they are on the court. So
- 29:14Speaker 3: I think that's not something that they should need to
- 29:16Speaker 3: worry about either.
- 29:17Speaker 1: And I think for the internationals too, moving to Adelaide, say,
- 29:21Speaker 1: compared with moving to Melbourne or Sydney, it's like Adelaide's
- 29:25Speaker 1: a community that goes, well, great, you're now part of us.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Like I think that it's an easier place to settle
- 29:31Speaker 1: into if you don't know anyone. I imagine Perth is
- 29:35Speaker 1: the same for Perth is a bigger city again, so
- 29:37Speaker 1: it's but Adelaide does have this sort of nice I
- 29:39Speaker 1: imagine does Sunshine Coast have that same or is it
- 29:44Speaker 1: is it too close to Brisbane to have that?
- 29:46Speaker 3: I just yeah, but how's the fact that they broke
- 29:50Speaker 3: two records in this Grand Final as well? The Thunderbirds.
- 29:53Speaker 3: They start the season breaking records, they're breaking records still
- 29:56Speaker 3: in the Grand Finally, just like, what the hell?
- 29:59Speaker 2: So the record I've just broken? The Grand final.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Biggest margin in a Grand Final in an SSZN Grand
- 30:04Speaker 3: Final of twenty one, it was seventeen. So they didn't
- 30:07Speaker 3: just read it, they smashed it, smash and they kept
- 30:10Speaker 3: the Vixens still the lowest ever scored in a Grand Final,
- 30:13Speaker 3: which was forty and it was for seven. So about
- 30:17Speaker 3: forty in a Grand final of vern when there's a
- 30:21Speaker 3: super shot, yes, say.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Can you in the ear of the super shot? You
- 30:25Speaker 2: don't very often see forty in a game. So when
- 30:28Speaker 2: you know, back in the olden days when we were playing,
- 30:31Speaker 2: and my first year in the Diamonds was the year
- 30:34Speaker 2: after my first year in the Diamonds squad was a
- 30:36Speaker 2: year after that ninety one World Cup, and you know,
- 30:38Speaker 2: I was part of a conversation once and Joyce Brown
- 30:40Speaker 2: was saying that they knew that both teams were capable
- 30:44Speaker 2: when they played against each other of scoring about twelve
- 30:47Speaker 2: goals a quarter, and they knew that they had to
- 30:51Speaker 2: just get thirteen in one quarter. And that's exactly how
- 30:54Speaker 2: it played out, like it was really close that it was
- 30:55Speaker 2: like forty three forty two. And so before the super
- 30:58Speaker 2: shot in the olden days, like most finals in wherever
- 31:01Speaker 2: you went what we're in the forties, you very rarely
- 31:03Speaker 2: saw anything different to that was. Now we're used to
- 31:05Speaker 2: seeing scores in the sixties because they happen so to
- 31:08Speaker 2: have in the era of the super shot, and there
- 31:11Speaker 2: were a couple of super shots when the Vixens that
- 31:12Speaker 2: were successful. So in this era, for the Thunderbirds defensive
- 31:16Speaker 2: line to keep the Vixens to what they did is phenomenal.
- 31:19Speaker 2: And I think what Thunderbirds did, which very few teams
- 31:23Speaker 2: do this because there's a lot of hard work, is
- 31:25Speaker 2: they they just didn't allow that middle channel to open up.
- 31:30Speaker 2: You could see you could see, couldn't you just the
- 31:33Speaker 2: impact that Kate Heffernon had, just because she's so used
- 31:37Speaker 2: to playing that in that sort of silver fans zone.
- 31:41Speaker 2: But anytime Sophie Garbin came out her or Latanya Wilson
- 31:46Speaker 2: were back on her and then what they're trying to
- 31:48Speaker 2: get you to do then is to swing the ball
- 31:50Speaker 2: to the size and that's when Shimira Sterling becomes so dangerous.
- 31:53Speaker 2: That's like the Thunderbirds have the best, one of the
- 31:57Speaker 2: best min quarters in the world, and without a doubt,
- 31:59Speaker 2: the best goalkeeper in the world, and they had Tillie
- 32:04Speaker 2: Garrett Latania Wilson just doing the job of all the
- 32:09Speaker 2: hard guards around the edges. And to watch them switch
- 32:13Speaker 2: between so seamlessly between that that zone or box style
- 32:16Speaker 2: of defense into one on one was unbelievable. Like, I've
- 32:21Speaker 2: never seen a team do that like that.
- 32:24Speaker 3: It was crazy, wasn't Sophie Garvin had four from four
- 32:27Speaker 3: in the first half as a as a goal shooter. Unbelievable. Yeah, yeah,
- 32:33Speaker 3: so incredible, And I mean they were they were up
- 32:36Speaker 3: though the Vixens of the first quarter. I thought, okay, yeah,
- 32:38Speaker 3: this is actually the game plan. But as we well,
- 32:41Speaker 3: the momentary exhausting game plan, that is a really really
- 32:46Speaker 3: tough that becomes a mental battle. You know physically what
- 32:49Speaker 3: you got to do, but that is a mental battle
- 32:51Speaker 3: to keep doing it. The whole the whole game. You know.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Two years ago in Adelaide, they did exactly that for
- 32:57Speaker 2: the full game and it was a really close match.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Thunderbirds ran out the winners. But I remember in that
- 33:01Speaker 2: game thinking they can't do this for the whole game,
- 33:03Speaker 2: and they could, but on Saturday night, just for some reason,
- 33:06Speaker 2: they couldn't quite execute that. And I thought what was
- 33:09Speaker 2: interesting was that, you know, we're all talking about Elmae Vandenberg.
- 33:13Speaker 2: I mean, she's amazing. When I was speaking to her
- 33:17Speaker 2: after the game, I haven't was the first time I
- 33:19Speaker 2: been up close to had a conversation with that, and
- 33:20Speaker 2: I did have the thoughts, thank god I'm tired. Yeah yeah, so,
- 33:25Speaker 2: and just watching her like she just never looked like missing.
- 33:28Speaker 2: She has the ultimate game face. It was amazing. But
- 33:32Speaker 2: I thought the Vixen's defensive line went enough ball. They
- 33:36Speaker 2: did a good job.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I thought they did in the first quarter.
- 33:39Speaker 3: And then they started to get penalized, didn't they out
- 33:42Speaker 3: of the game.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Yeah that was they had to take Rudy Ellis off
- 33:46Speaker 1: at once said she got awarding for something.
- 33:48Speaker 3: Yeah, a couple of like challenges.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, so questioned so last year when when it
- 33:55Speaker 1: was announced that Shamira, So the Thunderbirds had won two
- 33:58Speaker 1: in a row last year and then Shamira is pregnant
- 34:01Speaker 1: and so she's out and we all thought, well, that's
- 34:06Speaker 1: it for their season. So they ended up in the finals,
- 34:09Speaker 1: but they ended up sort of going out first in
- 34:11Speaker 1: the finals. This year, they've come back. They've got their
- 34:14Speaker 1: full contingent again. Is there one player in the Thunderbirds
- 34:19Speaker 1: that next year if they weren't available through injury or pregnancy, Like,
- 34:24Speaker 1: I can't see that there's one player in there that
- 34:26Speaker 1: would would jeopardize them going back to back next year,
- 34:31Speaker 1: can you?
- 34:32Speaker 3: I think if you lost to Georgie Hordes, you'd been
- 34:34Speaker 3: in trouble, okay, big time? That well, that first court
- 34:40Speaker 3: Lauren fre is not strong enough to keep that attack
- 34:43Speaker 3: line going if she's in gold attack, and we called
- 34:46Speaker 3: for that change. She come a bit earlier, thought it mighters,
- 34:49Speaker 3: But if you don't have Georgie in there, you're not
- 34:52Speaker 3: getting the ball down the court. She does a lot
- 34:56Speaker 3: of all this amount of work, and they blew it
- 34:59Speaker 3: open when they put her in goal attack.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Interesting, So you think then, like they would be more
- 35:05Speaker 1: at risk if they lost Georgie than if they were
- 35:07Speaker 1: to lose, say El Moray or Shamira next year.
- 35:10Speaker 3: Oh no, I think Shamira is a different story because
- 35:12Speaker 3: that's a combination of defense that just that's a stranglehold
- 35:15Speaker 3: on everyone. I think you'd end up in a similar position.
- 35:18Speaker 3: But I just think Georgie is as influential as Shami
- 35:24Speaker 3: is a completely different game though. I mean, it's hard
- 35:26Speaker 3: to weigh up with chalk and cheese in terms of
- 35:28Speaker 3: what we're talking about. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but I think
- 35:30Speaker 3: that attack line would fall apart without Georgie.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Horbis think a big loss for them would be Latagna.
- 35:36Speaker 2: So she is. She was phenomenal, And what we're talking
- 35:41Speaker 2: around is like, who's your MVP, And people on both
- 35:45Speaker 2: sides were like, oh, it's the book Ends, right, it's
- 35:47Speaker 2: Shamira at Z right, And I'm like, nah, Latagna has
- 35:49Speaker 2: been amazing. She was so disruptive at wing defense, so
- 35:52Speaker 2: all the wing defense of the world, this one's for you.
- 35:55Speaker 2: And the ability to swing in between was amazing, And
- 35:58Speaker 2: I reckon she gives them that menace up the back,
- 36:02Speaker 2: like Shami is going to do beautiful things and take
- 36:05Speaker 2: great balls. But I think the work that Latagna does
- 36:09Speaker 2: gives Shamir the time in space to do that. So, yeah,
- 36:13Speaker 2: they've got Tilly and she was I thought that was
- 36:15Speaker 2: one of the best games I've seen her play on
- 36:17Speaker 2: Saturday night, after she sat out most of that semi final,
- 36:20Speaker 2: I reckon she bounced back and did a great job
- 36:23Speaker 2: and went from where I was seeing it a real
- 36:24Speaker 2: appreciation for how long hair breaches and so she was
- 36:28Speaker 2: like playing havoc over the shot.
- 36:30Speaker 3: Well. Keeping in mind too, she did hurt to Rankle
- 36:32Speaker 3: because she missed the two training sessions in the lead up.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Yeah, so there was some doubt about whether she'd actually play,
- 36:37Speaker 2: and Tanya obs got asked about that at the Captain's
- 36:40Speaker 2: media call on Friday, and then we were talking about
- 36:42Speaker 2: it Friday night. So I thought she was outstanding. So
- 36:45Speaker 2: they've got lots of options in that defensive line. But
- 36:47Speaker 2: I reckon Latania just gives them something a bit magical there.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Now.
- 36:53Speaker 1: I think that's Liz. I'll be interested in your view
- 36:55Speaker 1: on this. I reckon that happened as a result of
- 36:57Speaker 1: Latanya having the space last year without Shmi are there.
- 37:00Speaker 1: That it's like she really stepped up last year, I thought,
- 37:03Speaker 1: And so I guess her game developed last year as
- 37:07Speaker 1: a result of being the point person for them at
- 37:10Speaker 1: the defense end in Shamira's absence, and maybe if they
- 37:14Speaker 1: had Shamira last year, they wouldn't have a Latanueilson of this.
- 37:18Speaker 2: That's actually a really interesting point, Krol, look at you
- 37:20Speaker 2: going along with you?
- 37:22Speaker 1: Do you know? I was interviewed by Georgia on se
- 37:24Speaker 1: N after the game.
- 37:27Speaker 2: After the game, Oh my god, there's a state school. Yep, sorry,
- 37:33Speaker 2: full of the state school. Full of the state school.
- 37:36Speaker 2: I had the headphones on. I've got Georgia there and
- 37:39Speaker 2: it's like, you know, what's your analysis? Well, my analysis
- 37:42Speaker 2: is it's a really good time coming to a sun
- 37:44Speaker 2: Corps Supernetball Rand final. But yes, that was a lot
- 37:49Speaker 2: of fun. That was.
- 37:50Speaker 1: That was a bit of a moment for me, a
- 37:52Speaker 1: bit of a I thought, I can't wait to tell
- 37:55Speaker 1: Katherine this one. Love it.
- 37:57Speaker 3: I can't wait to hear the interview.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Well, you're analysis is spot on, right. I think you're right.
- 38:01Speaker 2: I think the confidence that Latagna got from from being
- 38:05Speaker 2: the person last year in that Thunderbear's defensive line, You're right,
- 38:09Speaker 2: she's just she's just taking that run with it this year.
- 38:12Speaker 2: I think I thought she was outstanding. I loved watching
- 38:14Speaker 2: her on Saturday night. And then when she got the
- 38:16Speaker 2: Player of the match. Did you see how emotional she was?
- 38:19Speaker 2: It was beautiful. She walked up to get a bit
- 38:21Speaker 2: emotion on myself, So no, you would tried and emotional,
- 38:24Speaker 2: very different. But yeah, she walked up to get a
- 38:28Speaker 2: medal and just she was crying. I thought, Wow, she's
- 38:30Speaker 2: so yeah, and I just love like the joy that
- 38:33Speaker 2: she brings to the game as well. So yeah, that's
- 38:36Speaker 2: what we're about here on No Dribble, So I love
- 38:37Speaker 2: to see that she's doing it as well.
- 38:40Speaker 1: But kudos too to Kate Maloney. God, she's so classy.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Didn't you speak beautifully?
- 38:44Speaker 1: Oh so, like you know last year when she when
- 38:48Speaker 1: she accepts on behalf of the team because they won
- 38:52Speaker 1: and they're so excited, I thought, this is a great speech.
- 38:54Speaker 1: And this year I just thought, what a remarkable choice
- 38:58Speaker 1: of words in second after this huge disappointment and you know,
- 39:02Speaker 1: they've had a really rough time over the last couple
- 39:05Speaker 1: of a few rounds and things and the highs and
- 39:08Speaker 1: the lows, and I just I thought she was just remarkable,
- 39:11Speaker 1: such a role model.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Amazing and funny where I was standing because I was
- 39:16Speaker 2: right underneath the big screen and the speeders, I couldn't
- 39:19Speaker 2: hear her. So when I got home today I sat
- 39:21Speaker 2: and listened to her speech for someone and said to me,
- 39:24Speaker 2: how well she spoke, And I was just struck. Right,
- 39:27Speaker 2: she's so honest and she's so raw. She's not banging
- 39:30Speaker 2: on an act, she's not pretending, but she's so gracious
- 39:34Speaker 2: and I just think, like, you know, lots of I
- 39:40Speaker 2: was thinking that. You know, everyone says it, Joe Weston
- 39:42Speaker 2: will be the Prime Minister, but I reckon Kate could
- 39:44Speaker 2: give her a run for her money. She's such a
- 39:46Speaker 2: great orator, and like not only she just plagued, she
- 39:49Speaker 2: just runs center against Kate Heffernan for sixty honurs. Right, yeah,
- 39:53Speaker 2: I'll be a life support. Kate Maloney gets up and
- 39:55Speaker 2: gives a speech for all time like that is that
- 39:58Speaker 2: is phenomenal and apologizes for their performance. Oh it is amazing, Yeah,
- 40:05Speaker 2: just amazing. So that was shell shocked, you could set
- 40:08Speaker 2: on their faces afterwards. I just I've been in that situation,
- 40:11Speaker 2: being flunged in a grand Finally, you just wish the
- 40:13Speaker 2: floor would open up and swallow you and take you. Yeah.
- 40:16Speaker 1: So it's it's almost Sunday evening when we're recording tomorrow
- 40:20Speaker 1: morning Diamonds going to camp. A number of those diamonds
- 40:23Speaker 1: have just had a crushing disappointment. And what do you
- 40:28Speaker 1: do if you stay sy Marinkovich, what do you say
- 40:31Speaker 1: about this tomorrow?
- 40:32Speaker 2: Give them chocolate?
- 40:33Speaker 3: Yeah? I don't reckon she needs to say anything, does she?
- 40:37Speaker 3: I would I would literally be just putting the focus elsewhere,
- 40:40Speaker 3: because will they will do that. They'll be in their
- 40:42Speaker 3: own heads about it, and you want them to move
- 40:44Speaker 3: on and think about something else that's positive.
- 40:47Speaker 1: And I think it'll be you need them to get
- 40:49Speaker 1: to free that bird, don't you Yeah, to just go
- 40:52Speaker 1: all right, that's the past and that's gone.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Games is the fist. Well, there's four of them that
- 40:56Speaker 2: were in the Vixens, but there's two of them are
- 40:58Speaker 2: in the Thunderbirds who are coming in on a high right.
- 41:01Speaker 2: And then there's a number of players who've just been
- 41:03Speaker 2: training and not playing in finals. So I don't think
- 41:07Speaker 2: it's a one size fits all. I think and when
- 41:11Speaker 2: you come into camp after a grand final, whether you've
- 41:14Speaker 2: won or lost, you do sort of if you've won,
- 41:17Speaker 2: you sort of you don't want to rub it in
- 41:19Speaker 2: and if you've lost, you don't want to sort of
- 41:21Speaker 2: you don't want to be sort of too cranky about it.
- 41:23Speaker 2: So and these players are, they're professional, they've done it
- 41:27Speaker 2: all before. It's a remarkable thing about our sport that
- 41:29Speaker 2: you can play, you know, in the professional league in
- 41:32Speaker 2: the Grand Final one minute and then next minute you're
- 41:34Speaker 2: off to represent your country together. So I think they'll
- 41:37Speaker 2: be so focused on the Commonwealth Games. I don't think
- 41:40Speaker 2: it'll be an issue.
- 41:42Speaker 3: No, are we looking forward too. But what we did
- 41:44Speaker 3: say in commentary last night was that can you imagine
- 41:47Speaker 3: all the other teams, international teams sitting down and watching
- 41:50Speaker 3: the blueprint of that Thunderbird's defense that shut down basically
- 41:53Speaker 3: an Aussie Diamonds attack line.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Yeah, but good luck replicating that if you know it's
- 41:57Speaker 2: not Shamir or Matilda.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I know what they're doing there. I'm absolutely
- 42:04Speaker 3: no chance of doing it.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I know how they did that. God, Yeah, you're right,
- 42:10Speaker 2: but I think that, yeah, I think And that takes
- 42:13Speaker 2: an extraordinary amount of cohesion as well. So yeah, and look,
- 42:17Speaker 2: the Diamonds environ able to be very different, and I
- 42:21Speaker 2: think you know, the players will rise to it. But yeah,
- 42:24Speaker 2: it's an interesting psychological question, isn't it plays something like that.
- 42:28Speaker 2: But yeah, the players are they got one.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Day to celebrate and com miserate whatever. The victis have
- 42:34Speaker 3: got their BNF. They call it tonight. The Cherrell marn
- 42:37Speaker 3: Medal is tonight, Sunday night. So after the big last night,
- 42:41Speaker 3: they're backing up for that and then getting.
- 42:43Speaker 1: On a po tonight. I think too that tonight. Yeah, yeah,
- 42:49Speaker 1: Well I think Thunderbirds had theirs last week, didn't they.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Swift's had theirs last week, like a number of the
- 42:55Speaker 1: Lightning had theirs last week.
- 42:57Speaker 3: I haven't seen Thunderbirds they have them. Players are the
- 43:01Speaker 3: player of the year and stuff like that.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Okay, I don't aware. Yeah, now that you asked me that, Yeah,
- 43:06Speaker 1: I'm doubting. Make it up manh yeah, just go with it,
- 43:09Speaker 1: just go confidence And we went good night to nat ladies.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Whatever you have are.
- 43:13Speaker 1: But look, we should have a short break. We are, Yeah,
- 43:16Speaker 1: we'll come back in a moment.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Okay.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Well, I have learnt a few things over the past
- 43:33Speaker 1: twenty four hours that I think I should share for
- 43:37Speaker 1: future generations going to netball Grand Finals. So one have
- 43:41Speaker 1: a seat where I sat, which is you can just
- 43:44Speaker 1: buy those tickets.
- 43:45Speaker 2: You've got to be quick.
- 43:46Speaker 1: But my mate Lee, every time someone from the media
- 43:50Speaker 1: went past, she would call their media number out and
- 43:53Speaker 1: say we're photogenic. Nine times out of ten they turned
- 43:56Speaker 1: around and asked for a photo. So you know, maybe
- 43:59Speaker 1: sometimes in life, if you want a bit of attention,
- 44:01Speaker 1: all you have to do is just ask for it.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Photo Jeni, Yeah, that's what she said with photo Jenie,
- 44:07Speaker 1: we did have our people.
- 44:08Speaker 3: I had always said photogeny. That just sounded funny. Photo Jeanie.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Well, maybe like she's a genie. Maybe she's magic, and
- 44:15Speaker 2: she takes.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Phos potato potato, although no one says potato, right, no
- 44:22Speaker 1: one said potato.
- 44:23Speaker 2: I'm confused, Jenny, understand what we're trying to get media
- 44:27Speaker 2: people to take photos of you?
- 44:30Speaker 3: Yeah, apparently that's what she wanted the side of a
- 44:34Speaker 3: bus tomorrow.
- 44:35Speaker 1: No, I think these are all Netball Australia people. So
- 44:39Speaker 1: you know, we'll look out in the social media because
- 44:41Speaker 1: it's like, obviously, what Netball Australia wants is a couple
- 44:45Speaker 1: of middle aged white woman influences and apparently that's now
- 44:48Speaker 1: us and all you have to do is ask for it.
- 44:51Speaker 2: So good to know.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, one day you might have to go
- 44:57Speaker 1: to a netball grand final and just play ball like
- 45:01Speaker 1: the ordinary punters, like the rest of us do. So
- 45:04Speaker 1: these life tips could come in handy one day, if
- 45:07Speaker 1: not for you, then for the dribblers.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Do you know what though? I was thinking when
- 45:11Speaker 2: I was sitting at the lunch the other day before
- 45:15Speaker 2: the Grand Final. I can't wait till the day that
- 45:17Speaker 2: I'm just a punter here and I can just sat
- 45:20Speaker 2: the back and be up no chests, yep, yeah, yeah.
- 45:26Speaker 1: My god.
- 45:28Speaker 3: I had a glass of champagne and a dine up
- 45:30Speaker 3: for dinner last night.
- 45:32Speaker 1: There we go for dinner tonight?
- 45:34Speaker 3: No driple recommends no, because I felt as sick of
- 45:37Speaker 3: the dog as soon as I've inhaled both of them.
- 45:40Speaker 3: Just a big deep break and a glass of water
- 45:42Speaker 3: for dinner tonight.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 45:45Speaker 3: We've got literally nothing in the house. We're going away
- 45:47Speaker 3: tomorrow for nearly two weeks, so I have emptied everything out.
- 45:52Speaker 3: There is nothing to eat here.
- 45:54Speaker 1: So are you are you taking a little are you
- 45:56Speaker 1: taking some leave? Now? Yeah?
- 45:58Speaker 3: I'm going to tell you about that on Friday.
- 45:59Speaker 2: Maybe I can good look.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Forward to hearing that because I've foolishly taken my week's
- 46:04Speaker 1: leave going to Palm Cove last week, and I'm absolutely
- 46:06Speaker 1: exhausted and I have to go back to work this week.
- 46:08Speaker 2: But anyway, we'll talk.
- 46:09Speaker 1: About that on Friday. It's been a great week. It's
- 46:13Speaker 1: been a great.
- 46:13Speaker 3: Weekend, a great weekend. As you said, it's been a
- 46:17Speaker 3: fucking brilliant weekend.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Absolutely and thanks dribblers man, you've really wrapped your arms
- 46:23Speaker 1: around us. Thank you very much, with absolutely loveject so
- 46:26Speaker 1: but we'll be back on Friday. So I had a
- 46:28Speaker 1: good couple of days. I'm Carolyn Swindell, I'm Lozellas Bye bye,
