- 1:58of the enemy. God bind the enemy from off of
- 2:00this nation, bind the enemy from off of our families, bind the
- 2:04enemy from off of the school age children.
- 2:07God, bind the enemy from off of all of the cultic practices that
- 2:12are found in this landlord. I pray in the name of Jesus for

- 2:54Lord, doing whatever it is that you whisper to us in our ears,
- 2:58God, that still small voice that is so gentle, that is so kind,
- 3:03but it is so authoritative, God, and we listen intently for it.
- 3:08Lord, give us our marching orders.
- 3:10Let us charge the hill. Let us be found, Father, there
- 3:14with you. Let us be found, Father, being
- 3:17known by you. Let us be found, God waiting
- 3:20patiently, filling our lamps, God trimming our Wicks.
- 3:25Father, it is you and it is you alone that we press towards
- 3:29Jesus Christ. We love you.
- 3:31Be pleased by the reading of your text today.
- 3:34Holy Spirit, show us different facets of our Lord and our God
- 3:39and our King. We love you, and it's in Jesus
- 3:43Christ, holy and precious name that I pray.
- 3:46Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 3:52And in those days when the number of the disciples was
- 3:57multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians
- 4:02against the Hebrews because their widows were neglected in
- 4:06the daily ministration. So imagine that.
- 4:11Look at how Satan he tried to come in through Ananias and
- 4:15Sapphira. If you remember when Jesus told
- 4:19Peter that he was praying for him because Satan had asked to
- 4:24sift him, you can see how the enemy is trying every little
- 4:29trick up his sleeve to steal, kill and destroy the early
- 4:35church. And here he comes in through the
- 4:39Hellenist who thought that it was OK to learn the ways of the
- 4:45world, and then the Hebrews who thought that they needed to stay
- 4:50pure. And here is this division and is
- 4:53isn't it just like the spirit of the Antichrist to come in and to
- 4:59try and divide and to 'cause discord amongst brethren?
- 5:04And remember, these people no longer identify themselves with
- 5:10the Jews. They are now Christians.
- 5:14And so the enemy is trying to remind them of this social
- 5:22barrier that they had created within their own culture.
- 5:28And let's see how it goes. Two.
- 5:34Then the 12 called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and
- 5:38said, it is not reason that we should leave the word of God and
- 5:44serve tables. So here what they are saying is
- 5:47they are called to preach the Word and to study the scriptures
- 5:52and to devote themselves to prayer.
- 5:55And the administration. And the outpouring of all of the
- 6:04material things that were being brought to the disciples needed
- 6:09to be administered unto the masses that were coming in
- 6:14droves to follow the apostles and to give their lives over to
- 6:21the cause of the early church and to surrender to the will of
- 6:25the Lord Jesus Christ. And they're saying that it is
- 6:30not the most profitable thing for them to give up what they
- 6:36have been called into, to do this administering of all of the
- 6:46resources that were being given over to the early church. 3
- 6:52Wherefore, brethren, look you out among you, 7 men of honest
- 6:59report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint
- 7:05over this business. So perhaps one for every day of
- 7:09the week. They said, Search amongst
- 7:12yourselves and find 7 men of good report who love the Lord
- 7:17Jesus Christ and are full of the Holy Ghost.
- 7:22For but we will give ourselves continuously to prayer and to
- 7:27the ministry of the Word. Praise God that they were wise
- 7:32enough to understand the power in searching the scriptures and
- 7:38giving themselves over to prayer.
- 7:40Look at how they are modelling their lives after their Lord
- 7:44Jesus Christ. And this is where we would find
- 7:47deacons, and this is where we would find those in the church
- 7:51who are called into the office, who are called into being, those
- 7:59who steward the resources that are entrusted to God.
- 8:03When you give, you don't give to the church, you give to God.
- 8:08Don't ever forget that what the church does with those resources
- 8:13is between them and God. They will have to answer for how
- 8:18those funds are appropriated or misappropriated.
- 8:24And it is by doing exactly what the apostles said that they were
- 8:29set to do is how we know how to distribute all of the things and
- 8:35to tell the deacons and to tell the administration how to do
- 8:39their jobs and what faculties we need and what ministries are
- 8:46needed. So these apostles understood
- 8:50that it was by searching the Word of God and by prayer that
- 8:53God is pleased to reveal the unrevealed will of God.
- 8:58So if you want to know the unrevealed will of God, you must
- 9:01first start searching and obeying the revealed will which
- 9:07is contained in your hands. The 66 books from Genesis to
- 9:11Revelation, Nothing added and nothing subtracted.
- 9:15They understood that, and it was wisdom from on high to
- 9:19understand that. Five, in this saying, pleased
- 9:22the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man
- 9:27full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Procris
- 9:32Neichner, and Timon Permanus Nicholas, the proselyte of
- 9:38Antioch, 6 whom they set before the apostles.
- 9:42And when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
- 9:46So here they are instituting them, Here they are laying their
- 9:52hands and giving them their approval to do the work of the
- 10:01Lord. Seven in the word of God
- 10:06increased and the number of the disciples multiplied in
- 10:09Jerusalem greatly been a great company of the priests were
- 10:14obedient to the faith. So what you're going to find is
- 10:18most of those names that were mentioned were all Greek names.
- 10:23And you can see how the Holy Ghost knew that there needed to
- 10:29be men who were sensitive to the Hellenist to be able to make
- 10:35sure that all of the needs were met.
- 10:43And it's just like the Holy Ghost to show us if we will
- 10:46trust in Him and wait on Him, He will always lead us in the right
- 10:52path. It is whenever we try to outpace
- 10:55and outstep God, when we're not willing to wait, when we become
- 10:59impatient and we ask God to Co sign on our own actions, is when
- 11:05we find ourselves in perpetual frustration, friends, and we
- 11:10have to confess and repent that we've done that to receive the
- 11:14Holy Spirit and quit searing our conscience and quit grieving the
- 11:20Spirit and quit trying to misrepresent the Lord.
- 11:28Quit trying to manufacture our own destinations.
- 11:34We need to sit and wait on God and wait for him to tell us what
- 11:39to do. And if it takes an hour or if it
- 11:42takes a day, if it takes a month, if it takes a year, we
- 11:47need to still be found waiting. And the greatest work that God
- 11:51does is in the waiting. So we should not out pace and
- 11:57outstep God and try to get Him to cosign on our own needs and
- 12:01wants. There are so many men and women
- 12:04right now who don't understand why everything is awry and why
- 12:09everything is upended. And they refuse to come to Him
- 12:13honestly and refuse to confess and repent that they did things
- 12:18in their own power and in their own understanding.
- 12:21And that is why they find themselves in the state that
- 12:24they're in. And these apostles understood
- 12:27that they needed to seek God's counsel and to wait on him.
- 12:38A and Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and
- 12:43miracles among the people. So this would have been just an
- 12:48extension of the Lord's ministry.
- 12:51That is what you're going to find with all the apostles and
- 12:54the disciples in the early church is there was no new thing
- 12:58that came about. It was just an extension of what
- 13:02the Lord Jesus Christ modeled for them. 9 Then there arose
- 13:11certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the
- 13:14Libertines and the Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and of them of
- 13:19Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
- 13:24So here we're going to see that here comes envy again, here
- 13:28comes the enemy again, here comes Satan again trying to
- 13:32destroy the witness of the early church.
- 13:36Let's see how it goes. 10 They were not able to resist the
- 13:43wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke, because he
- 13:47authentically, authoritatively spoke for God himself through
- 13:54the Holy Spirit that was given to him.
- 13:56He was overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit. 11 Then they suborned
- 14:07men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words
- 14:11against Moses and against God. 12 And they stirred up the
- 14:17people and the elders and the scribes, and came upon him and
- 14:22caught him, and brought him to the council.
- 14:27Here is a picture of persecution in the most simple form.
- 14:35Here he is just speaking the truth.
- 14:37Then they are envious and they realize that there that he is
- 14:42speaking against their evil ways and because of their delusional
- 14:48selves, because they loved evil more than they loved the truth,
- 14:54they catch him like a trap. It springs on him.
- 15:01This is persecution in the most simple form.
- 15:05He is wrongfully accused and wrongfully arrested for just
- 15:13doing the right thing. And that is demonic and satanic
- 15:18at its core. Never forget that. 13 And set up
- 15:28false witnesses, and said, This man ceases not to speak
- 15:34blasphemous words against this holy place and the law.
- 15:39Woe unto you who call evil good, and who call good evil. 14 For
- 15:50we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy
- 15:57this place and shall change the customs which Moses delivered
- 16:01us. What Stephen has told them is
- 16:06that Jesus is doing a new thing, God is doing a new thing, that
- 16:10there is no power in the temple, there's no power in the
- 16:14geographical land there, that the Holy Spirit has broke out
- 16:19for the whole world. And this is a foreshadowing of
- 16:23the Gentiles that are going to come in.
- 16:26And the Jews could not stand to think that Yahweh would ever
- 16:30invite the nations into their faith.
- 16:34And that is why we see in AD 70, God destroy the temple just like
- 16:40he did in the times of the Babylonians when he let off his
- 16:45people into captivity. 15 and all that sat in the council,
- 16:54looking steadfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face
- 17:01of an Angel. So this next chapter that we're
- 17:05about to get into, we're going to find out what Stephen has to
- 17:10say to him. But you just need to know that
- 17:13he's full of the Holy Ghost and God is with him, and God's about
- 17:16to use his mouth as a megaphone to speak to this wicked,
- 17:24adulterous, perverse nation. And he's going to show them that
- 17:32they have turned their backs on the God that they supposedly
- 17:41worship. God's going to use Stephen in a
- 17:44mighty way, and we're going to find out what the effect of that
- 17:49is next time. Until next time, stay tuned.
- 17:55I hope you've been blessed by this chapter.
- 17:57I know I sure have. I'm praying for you.
- 18:04I love you. So does God this be found taking
- 18:12the whole word to the whole world and preaching and
- 18:16proclaiming the name of Jesus Christ to the whole world.
- 18:21Let's not be ignorant of the Word of God and what He wants to
- 18:25speak to us today. See you back here tomorrow.
- 18:32God bless you.
