Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Light FM on a Thursday morning. Cubby, Christine, producer Kristen,
- 0:03Speaker 1: thank you for having us on on this October the 8th.
- 0:07Speaker 1: You know, Christine, you were under the weather Monday and Tuesday,
- 0:10Speaker 1: and you missed it when John Legend came by.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Of course I did.
- 0:13Speaker 1: And I knew you were, like, you would never fake
- 0:15Speaker 1: a sickness, but I knew you were really down for
- 0:17Speaker 1: the count when on Monday you were like, I still
- 0:18Speaker 1: can't make it.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I know I tried, right? I, like, was trying to rally.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I was in touch with you guys in the afternoon.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I'm saying I'm trying, I'm trying, but my body was just.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Well, it's a good thing you rested. That's all that
- 0:28Speaker 1: matters because you're feeling better now. Yeah. But that conversation
- 0:32Speaker 1: I had with John Legend will be playing just after
- 0:34Speaker 1: 7 o'clock today. We had a great conversation about his
- 0:36Speaker 1: new music. We even got to go behind the scenes
- 0:40Speaker 1: with his home life. Nice. And life in bed.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Life in bed? Yes. Sounds good. Right about now.
- 0:47Speaker 1: We don't dive into that personal level, but what happens
- 0:51Speaker 1: with him and the family after at night when they're
- 0:54Speaker 1: winding down. Oh, okay. That kind of thing. Right. So
- 0:56Speaker 1: we'll have that conversation coming up just after seven. But
- 0:59Speaker 1: you hit the ground running when you came back yesterday
- 1:01Speaker 1: because we had a busy day with Judy Torres here.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yes. Which was such a great interview, by the way.
- 1:06Speaker 2: She's wonderful.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Go back on the iHeartRadio app and check it out.
- 1:09Speaker 1: You can search Cubby and Christine. Our show is on demand.
- 1:11Speaker 1: She was amazing.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Yeah. Her memoir is No Reason to Cry. And she's
- 1:14Speaker 2: very open and honest. And she's been through a lot.
- 1:17Speaker 2: But she's so, so positive.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I just had so many messages from friends of mine
- 1:21Speaker 2: that felt inspired by her.
- 1:22Speaker 1: There's a reason she's a life coach. Yes.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 1: She really motivates you. Yeah. That was yesterday.
- 1:27Speaker 2: And then.
- 1:28Speaker 1: At 10 o'clock, I left, but you did something else. Yes.
- 1:31Speaker 2: A friend of mine invited me to be on his podcast,
- 1:33Speaker 2: Matt DeFede. We've spoken to him, and I've quoted him
- 1:36Speaker 2: a lot, Cubby, because he was my realtor, one of
- 1:40Speaker 2: the people working with me as a realtor, along with Judy.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And he's always had, I don't know, he's just like
- 1:46Speaker 2: one of those people with just great life advice. I
- 1:48Speaker 2: just feel like he gives really good guidance and helped
- 1:51Speaker 2: me through difficult times. Remember, I got a house. I
- 1:54Speaker 2: was unhappy with the house. I had to move again.
- 1:56Speaker 2: So he's been with me through a lot. But he
- 1:58Speaker 2: has a really, really fun podcast. We don't just talk
- 2:02Speaker 2: about real estate, even though we cover that. Just kind
- 2:05Speaker 2: of life in general. All right. Life according to Matt
- 2:07Speaker 2: is pretty fun.
- 2:08Speaker 1: So people can kind of get you behind the scenes
- 2:10Speaker 1: in a way.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:11Speaker 1: They hear what your life is like.
- 2:13Speaker 2: A bit, yeah. It's funny to be a guest on
- 2:16Speaker 2: someone else's show because you and I are used to
- 2:19Speaker 2: doing the interviews.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Yeah. You're kind of being interviewed.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:22Speaker 2: And now I realize, like, you know how you and
- 2:24Speaker 2: I will ask questions and we hope the person talks?
- 2:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I didn't want to do that to Matt because sometimes
- 2:30Speaker 2: I found I would just go, uh-huh.
- 2:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And it's like, no, don't do that.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Talk.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Talk, talk, talk.
- 2:34Speaker 1: John Legend was like that. And you'll hear that just
- 2:36Speaker 1: after seven. But Kristen gave me a bunch of questions
- 2:38Speaker 1: for John Legend. And he just grabbed the mic and ran.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I mean, and we like that. Yeah. It makes our
- 2:45Speaker 1: life easier.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, he's so good. He's a wonderful entertainer, right?
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Some people are just, I don't know. They just have it.
- 2:51Speaker 2: He's got it.
- 2:51Speaker 1: So is your podcast, was it just recorded yesterday?
- 2:54Speaker 2: We just recorded it yesterday. So they're going to edit.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Okay.
- 2:57Speaker 2: And post it. And he has a co-host named Jen
- 2:59Speaker 2: and she does a lot of animal rescue.
- 3:00Speaker 1: All right.
- 3:01Speaker 2: So we were talking about animals that are available, like
- 3:04Speaker 2: in New Jersey, um, that are up for adoption. It
- 3:07Speaker 2: was just really nice.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And what's it called again?
- 3:09Speaker 2: Well, it's Matt DeFede's podcast. Um, and I will get
- 3:13Speaker 2: the title for you.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 5: All right.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And find it wherever you get your podcast.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I'll make sure to get it for you.
- 3:19Speaker 1: We're good. Uh, Guess what? Two pretty cool things. I
- 3:22Speaker 1: got them lined up. I got them ready to go.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Next.
- 3:24Speaker 4: More Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:31Speaker 5: I need to tell you two things.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Covey and Christine's. Two pretty cool things. I did a
- 3:37Speaker 1: cool thing about Coca-Cola putting out some new product in 2027.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And then I got a couple of text messages saying,
- 3:43Speaker 1: did you hear about what they're doing for the holidays?
- 3:45Speaker 1: A lot of Coca-Cola fans out there. Oh, yeah. Well,
- 3:47Speaker 1: they are putting out Holiday Creamery Vanilla. It'll be back
- 3:51Speaker 1: for the holidays this year. People are big fans of it.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I've never tried it. It came out late last year.
- 3:56Speaker 1: It's available in regular and zero sugar. Holiday Creamy Vanilla
- 4:00Speaker 1: from Coca-Cola. Lots of fans apparently. Again, never tried it,
- 4:04Speaker 1: but pretty cool if you're a Coca-Cola fan. What's your
- 4:07Speaker 1: cool thing?
- 4:07Speaker 2: Are you ready for it?
- 4:09Speaker 4: What?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Starbucks is coming back with that barista.
- 4:12Speaker 1: You got a coffee story?
- 4:13Speaker 2: I have a coffee story. You of all people?
- 4:16Speaker 3: I know.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I know a little too much. I seem to lean
- 4:18Speaker 2: that way. But Starbucks has unveiled its 2026 Holiday Cup collection.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And yeah, it's really cute. People are losing their minds
- 4:28Speaker 2: on the Internet. The biggest buzz is around the return
- 4:30Speaker 2: of of the wildly popular Barista Cup. Remember, it sold
- 4:34Speaker 2: out last year in a second.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I sure do.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Because each store had one or two. So that little
- 4:38Speaker 2: guy is back, but he's got matching tumblers, mugs, and
- 4:42Speaker 2: even a plush keychain. I'm looking at the stuff. It
- 4:45Speaker 2: does look really pretty. There's also a festive Christmas tree-shaped
- 4:49Speaker 2: cold cup, nostalgic holiday village collection inspired by Starbucks Seattle roots,
- 4:55Speaker 2: and a Winter Wonderland line, which is featuring icy blue
- 4:58Speaker 2: drinkware and shimmering accessories. It's pretty. Holiday merch is arriving
- 5:03Speaker 2: in Starbucks November 5th.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Does that mean you're going to run for it November 5th?
- 5:07Speaker 2: I don't have it in me again.
- 5:09Speaker 1: When did you do that last? Was it last month?
- 5:10Speaker 2: We just tried it for Snoopy.
- 5:12Speaker 1: For Snoopy, right? Yes. You ran out in the middle
- 5:14Speaker 1: of the show.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but you have got to be there when Starbucks opens.
- 5:17Speaker 2: You have to line up and be there because they
- 5:20Speaker 2: apparently only get one or two of these guys. Right.
- 5:22Speaker 1: You could be the 10th person in line.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Yeah, and too bad.
- 5:24Speaker 1: And not guaranteed to get it. All right. Thank you, Christine.
- 5:26Speaker 1: We're coming right back.
- 5:27Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Next on Light FM. 106.7 Light FM. Good morning. It's Cubby, Christine,
- 5:35Speaker 2: producer Kristen. And we're kind of going over this fall
- 5:39Speaker 2: to-do list. Like, it's speeding along here, right? What is today?
- 5:44Speaker 2: October 8th. Yeah. So it's time. It's time to put
- 5:48Speaker 2: out the pumpkins and the mums and all that kind
- 5:50Speaker 2: of stuff. And yeah, we're just catching up. Like, what
- 5:52Speaker 2: have we done so far? Have we done our stuff?
- 5:54Speaker 1: Well, what should I, like, give me, name some things,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and I'll check them off and see if my family
- 5:59Speaker 1: has done them.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Like, it's time to display Halloween decorations.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Yes, we have a few out.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Very nice.
- 6:05Speaker 1: You, Kristen?
- 6:06Speaker 2: No?
- 6:06Speaker 1: Not even on the door?
- 6:08Speaker 2: No?
- 6:08Speaker 5: No.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I don't have mine out yet either. We could start
- 6:12Speaker 2: watching our scary movies.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I enjoy a good scary movie. I haven't really put
- 6:16Speaker 1: one on. Like, as a pic or anything.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 6:18Speaker 1: But on TV, I've been channel surfing, and I've stopped
- 6:21Speaker 1: on one.
- 6:22Speaker 2: There's one called Back Rooms. Eric and I just watched
- 6:25Speaker 2: over the weekend.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Back Rooms.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Uh-huh. It's, like, one of those indie, like, obsession. This
- 6:30Speaker 2: year was, like, one of those smaller movies that are, like,
- 6:33Speaker 2: really scary.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I'm writing it down. And really creepy. I'm writing it down.
- 6:36Speaker 2: So we've got some good stuff for you. It is
- 6:38Speaker 2: time for some pumpkin spice lattes.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Hello.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I had one, I think, when it came out.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Yeah, you did? Mm-hmm. Have you carved a pumpkin yet?
- 6:45Speaker 2: I think a little early.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Haven't carved, but we do have a couple of pumpkins,
- 6:49Speaker 1: big and small, on our doorstep.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Have you chosen Halloween costumes for you and or the kids?
- 6:56Speaker 1: Not me, but the kids are good to go.
- 6:59Speaker 2: What are they this year? Oh, gosh.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I knew you were going to ask that.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 7:02Speaker 1: No, Naomi is, oh, gosh. And Coco is going to
- 7:06Speaker 1: kill me if she hears me saying this because I
- 7:08Speaker 1: should know.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Pass will go to the next.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Do you want to come back?
- 7:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll come back to that. Come back to that.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Visit a haunted house, I know can do. Can you
- 7:15Speaker 2: guys do that?
- 7:17Speaker 1: I don't know. It depends. They're kind of fun.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:22Speaker 1: But I have to go to one that I know is,
- 7:25Speaker 1: I don't know. If word is out that it's not
- 7:28Speaker 1: that scary from people, then I could probably handle it
- 7:30Speaker 1: because it's probably scary enough for me. Right. Does that
- 7:32Speaker 1: make sense?
- 7:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:33Speaker 1: If I hear one that is just five stars... The
- 7:37Speaker 1: scariest ever. I will go in there.
- 7:38Speaker 2: The real intense ones and like where you can give
- 7:41Speaker 2: permission for like the actors to touch you and stuff.
- 7:44Speaker 3: No.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Yeah. I think you were like sometimes people you wear
- 7:46Speaker 1: a glow stick around their neck if if that's indicating
- 7:49Speaker 1: if you want to be touched. Yes. And in that case,
- 7:51Speaker 1: I want to be touched. Yeah.
- 7:54Speaker 2: OK. Going on a hayride. I guess that would be
- 7:58Speaker 2: you'd have to.
- 7:59Speaker 1: That kind of goes along with pumpkins.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:01Speaker 1: And apple picking.
- 8:02Speaker 2: I want to do apple picking this weekend. I haven't
- 8:04Speaker 2: broken it to Eric yet, but yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 1: We'll do it Saturday before the rain comes in on Sunday. Oh, wait.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Sunday was the day I wanted to go.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Well, I think you're fine in the morning. But then
- 8:11Speaker 1: three or four o'clock is that remnants of the hurricane.
- 8:13Speaker 1: He's a drummer.
- 8:14Speaker 2: He doesn't get up till five or four o'clock.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Four or five.
- 8:17Speaker 2: And oh, yeah. Start stocking up on your Halloween candy. Like,
- 8:20Speaker 2: what are you going to pass out this year?
- 8:23Speaker 1: Oh, see, we have some bags. You do? But we
- 8:26Speaker 1: don't get many trick-or-treaters. But we do have bags just
- 8:28Speaker 1: in case we get a ding-dong.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I would have it on standby. But I'm really proud
- 8:34Speaker 2: of you, Cubby, because I think you did a very
- 8:36Speaker 2: important fall thing that is not on this official list yesterday.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Well, that's what I was waiting for.
- 8:39Speaker 2: No, it's not here.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I cleaned out the shed yesterday. Look at that. And
- 8:42Speaker 1: I put all the fall gear out and put all
- 8:45Speaker 1: the summer stuff in the shed. Lovely. And I thought
- 8:48Speaker 1: that that was going to be on the list for sure.
- 8:50Speaker 2: No.
- 8:50Speaker 1: But it was more just... Halloween theme.
- 8:52Speaker 2: No, that was more like dad jobs. That's a different list.
- 8:54Speaker 1: No, I got everything in the shed. That's so great.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Have you ever opened up a door or a closet
- 9:00Speaker 1: and you thought, I need to do just a couple
- 9:02Speaker 1: of things, and then you go into a rabbit hole
- 9:04Speaker 1: where everything comes out and it becomes a project? I
- 9:08Speaker 1: love that. But you went in there not preparing for
- 9:10Speaker 1: a project.
- 9:11Speaker 2: But you did it.
- 9:12Speaker 1: But I did.
- 9:12Speaker 2: And then it feels so good.
- 9:14Speaker 1: So will you put clean the shed out on that list?
- 9:16Speaker 2: Like I said, that's going to be the dad fall list.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Like, you know, what are you guys doing? Are you
- 9:21Speaker 2: checking the smoke alarms?
- 9:23Speaker 1: Yes.
- 9:24Speaker 2: You know, making sure there's not dust behind the fridge.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I don't know. What do dads do?
- 9:27Speaker 1: The list you did was a fun list.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I did the fun list.
- 9:30Speaker 3: All right.
- 9:30Speaker 1: We're coming right back. Light FM.
- 9:32Speaker 4: More Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 9:37Speaker 1: All right, quick clarification there, Christine. It's Light FM. My
- 9:39Speaker 1: wife has texted me and reminded me that Naomi's going
- 9:42Speaker 1: to be roomie from K-pop Demon Hunters. Oh, okay. And
- 9:45Speaker 1: I kind of thought that, but she dressed up like
- 9:47Speaker 1: that last year, and I thought she was kind of
- 9:50Speaker 1: over the K-pop thing.
- 9:51Speaker 2: She's not.
- 9:51Speaker 1: But she's not, so it's roomie. So thank you for
- 9:53Speaker 1: the text to my wife. I forgot what Miles is
- 9:56Speaker 1: going to be, but there we go.
- 9:58Speaker 2: We'll wait for another text, Coco. Yes. is Miles going
- 10:00Speaker 2: to be for Halloween, please?
- 10:02Speaker 1: Oh, man, Light FM is on. We're talking everything today.
- 10:06Speaker 1: We're talking Halloween. We're talking fall things. We're talking finance now.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Yeah, we're talking cars.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Yeah, what do you got?
- 10:12Speaker 2: Financing cars. Well, you know, we hit a new high
- 10:15Speaker 2: as to how much people are paying to... to have
- 10:18Speaker 2: cars now.
- 10:18Speaker 1: So this might be a bummer, but it's just a fact.
- 10:20Speaker 2: But it's just there. The average amount financed is over $ 45, 000.
- 10:26Speaker 2: So our monthly payments are now $ 787.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Wow.
- 10:31Speaker 2: And we are stretching them out over a longer period
- 10:34Speaker 2: of time. We're taking longer loans to keep the monthly lower,
- 10:38Speaker 2: but then over time you're paying more because of the interest.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Interest. Hate it. I'm very excited because December will be
- 10:46Speaker 1: the end of my five-year car payments, and I've never
- 10:49Speaker 1: made it this far. I've always bailed, and I get bored.
- 10:52Speaker 1: So three years in, I'll trade in a car, get
- 10:57Speaker 1: the value back, and put it towards a new car, whatever.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And my wife's like, no, you are driving this to
- 11:02Speaker 1: the ground. I want all the wheels to fall off
- 11:05Speaker 1: before you get a new car. So look for me
- 11:07Speaker 1: on the turnpike. In about a year, when all four tires.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Just roll off Yeah, you should be good. You should
- 11:13Speaker 2: be good for a while. It's a nice feeling to
- 11:15Speaker 2: not have that car payment.
- 11:17Speaker 5: You know?
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'm actually excited I'm not bored yet, because
- 11:20Speaker 1: I really do get bored with certain cars, and just
- 11:23Speaker 1: the technology changes.
- 11:24Speaker 2: You like tech.
- 11:24Speaker 1: And I like tech, yeah, yeah, yeah. But I've been
- 11:26Speaker 1: pretty happy with what I have.
- 11:27Speaker 2: What about the... Are you resisting the iPhone, or are
- 11:30Speaker 2: you going to go for that foldable?
- 11:33Speaker 1: I have a rule. Every two years, I'll get a
- 11:35Speaker 1: new iPhone. Okay, where are we at? I used to
- 11:36Speaker 1: do it every year, and so I'm skipping this year
- 11:38Speaker 1: because I got the iPhone... 17 last year. Okay, so
- 11:42Speaker 1: i'm skipping this year. How about you? Well, you actually
- 11:44Speaker 1: I know you you go back like several years of
- 11:46Speaker 1: your phone, right?
- 11:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I hate giving it up because once you switch
- 11:49Speaker 2: over and I get logged out of everything I can't
- 11:51Speaker 2: ever get back into an app to save my life.
- 11:53Speaker 1: But I will say They have made it easier seriously,
- 11:57Speaker 1: I you pretty much get your old phone and You
- 12:00Speaker 1: will get the new phone out and your new phone
- 12:02Speaker 1: will scan Your old phone. Yes And it'll put everything
- 12:06Speaker 1: in almost automatically. It's a lot better.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Will it let me back in? Because last time it
- 12:11Speaker 2: did not. I was out of Instagram, Facebook. It was
- 12:13Speaker 2: a thing. I just can't go through it again.
- 12:17Speaker 1: And that's why you still have the iPhone 7.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Exactly. And I'll never let it go. I'll never let
- 12:23Speaker 2: it go.
- 12:23Speaker 1: All right. We got the headlines coming up next. And
- 12:26Speaker 1: our conversation with John Legend. You were under the weather
- 12:29Speaker 1: on Tuesday, but John Legend stopped by. We'll play that
- 12:32Speaker 1: interview coming up after 7 in addition to what else, Christine?
- 12:35Speaker 2: Well, like you said, important headlines. And also, why do
- 12:38Speaker 2: football players pat each other on the butt?
- 12:41Speaker 1: Inquiring minds want to know.
- 12:42Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 12:48Speaker 1: 659, Christine has everything you need to know. Good morning, Christine.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Okay, good morning, Cubby. Yes, the Yanks are done for
- 12:55Speaker 2: the season. I'm just going to mention that and then
- 12:58Speaker 2: move on.
- 12:59Speaker 1: You're trying to be easy on the fans.
- 13:00Speaker 5: I am.
- 13:01Speaker 2: I feel like we already know, but just in case
- 13:03Speaker 2: you didn't, there we are. Isaias is a Category 1 hurricane.
- 13:08Speaker 2: It's approaching the Gulf Coast. Forecasters think it could have
- 13:11Speaker 2: winds of up to 100 miles per hour, and right
- 13:14Speaker 2: now it's looking to make landfall somewhere between New Orleans
- 13:18Speaker 2: and Panama City later this week. My understanding is we
- 13:22Speaker 2: could feel the effects of it mainly on Sunday.
- 13:24Speaker 1: You are correct.
- 13:24Speaker 2: According to Paul Covey Bryant, our weather forecaster.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Well, I don't know about that.
- 13:28Speaker 2: I just made you one.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I have the TV on.
- 13:29Speaker 2: There you go. FAA says a flight from Madrid to
- 13:32Speaker 2: Dallas forced to divert here to New York after a
- 13:36Speaker 2: majority of the plane's toilets stopped working. The pilot said...
- 13:41Speaker 2: We only have two potties operating on board for American 37.
- 13:45Speaker 2: So 300 people, 10-hour flight, only two working toilets. You
- 13:50Speaker 2: do the math.
- 13:51Speaker 1: You got to land.
- 13:52Speaker 2: They decided to land. Yes, I think that was probably
- 13:54Speaker 2: the best idea for everybody involved. Powerball jackpot is up
- 13:59Speaker 2: to $ 500 million because nobody matched the numbers last night.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Circling back around to sports, Yankees lost to the Rays
- 14:06Speaker 2: 4-3 in Game 3. So their playoff run has come
- 14:10Speaker 2: to an end. WNBA Liberty lost to the Atlanta Dream 101-98.
- 14:14Speaker 2: That was game two. Tonight we've got football. Buccaneers are
- 14:17Speaker 2: playing the Cowboys at 8-15. And we have to do
- 14:19Speaker 2: our picks because I think Producer Kristen's in on that one.
- 14:22Speaker 1: You are correct. We've got to get our picks in. Interesting.
- 14:24Speaker 1: We're all alive in our survivor pool, but one wrong
- 14:28Speaker 1: move and someone's out.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 14:30Speaker 2: And when it comes to football, why do players pat
- 14:34Speaker 2: each other on the butt?
- 14:35Speaker 1: Feels good.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Is that why? Research has established that members of high-performing
- 14:40Speaker 2: teams touch each other more than those on other teams.
- 14:45Speaker 2: And one theory is that it is the key release
- 14:48Speaker 2: of the hormone oxytocin, which creates strong bonds between the
- 14:52Speaker 2: team members.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Well, you know, Christine, Bernie Williams is going to be
- 14:55Speaker 1: here tomorrow.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:56Speaker 1: That's going to be our first question. You ask him.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Former Yankee. Yes, I know.
- 15:01Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 15:06Speaker 1: 106.7 Light FM with Cubby and Christine in the morning.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Christine is off today. My co-host is sick today. She's very,
- 15:12Speaker 1: very upset, John Legend.
- 15:13Speaker 3: I need a new co-host.
- 15:14Speaker 1: You're it. John Legend's here. Welcome back to the friendly
- 15:19Speaker 1: confines of 106.7 Light FM. It's been a hot minute.
- 15:22Speaker 1: We were just talking before the interview started. I first
- 15:25Speaker 1: met you in 2004. Ordinary People, your first single, wasn't
- 15:28Speaker 1: even out yet. And you came and performed for a
- 15:31Speaker 1: bunch of DJs when I was working at Z100 to
- 15:33Speaker 1: showcase your stuff. And man, how far you've come. Do
- 15:36Speaker 1: you remember that moment? I remember it.
- 15:37Speaker 5: I remember the president of the label or head of
- 15:42Speaker 5: promotions at the label, he would take me around to
- 15:45Speaker 5: these radio stations. And I would just, you know, let
- 15:50Speaker 5: people know what I was working on. And I was
- 15:52Speaker 5: trying to be heard. I was trying to get my
- 15:54Speaker 5: music out there. And I think the album wasn't even
- 15:56Speaker 5: out yet. But I was like, hey, I'll do what
- 16:00Speaker 5: I need to do to make sure the music gets out. And,
- 16:02Speaker 5: you know, we've still got to go out there and
- 16:05Speaker 5: let people know that the music is coming out. And
- 16:08Speaker 5: I'm so excited that we've got a new project. It's
- 16:11Speaker 5: called Muse, produced by Pharrell Williams. And I'm so proud
- 16:15Speaker 5: of what we've made.
- 16:16Speaker 1: And tell me all the people that inspired you for
- 16:19Speaker 1: this album.
- 16:19Speaker 5: Oh, we talked about Nina Simone. We talked about Nat
- 16:21Speaker 5: King Cole. We talked about Marvin Gaye. We talked about
- 16:24Speaker 5: Frank Sinatra. So there's some elements of those kind of
- 16:28Speaker 5: classics and standards. And then we wanted to do all
- 16:33Speaker 5: that with kind of a hip-hop foundation.
- 16:36Speaker 3: So 808 Beats, hip-hop drums. Right.
- 16:38Speaker 1: And reading also the songs on Muse, they kind of
- 16:41Speaker 1: follow an imagined relationship through attraction, commitment, and betrayal.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 5: We wanted to make it kind of cinematic, so the
- 16:48Speaker 5: storytelling is really interesting. And being married with children.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:53Speaker 1: And not the TV show, you yourself.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yes.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Being married with children. Love and marriage. How did that
- 16:59Speaker 1: affect the writing?
- 17:00Speaker 5: Well, you know, we tried to, like, not make it
- 17:03Speaker 5: about ourselves, because both Pharrell and I are married with
- 17:07Speaker 5: four kids each.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:09Speaker 1: We have one thing in common with kids, by the way.
- 17:12Speaker 1: We both have a son named Miles.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Oh, cool. Yeah.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Yes, it's a great name.
- 17:17Speaker 5: And so we wanted to like write a character that
- 17:23Speaker 5: wasn't either of our wives, but just that kind of existed.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Out in the world.
- 17:27Speaker 5: Yeah, it was like, we wanted it to be kind
- 17:30Speaker 5: of cinematic. And so that's really what the storytelling's like
- 17:36Speaker 5: in the album.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Well, John, I gotta tell you, you've collaborated with everybody
- 17:40Speaker 1: from Lauryn Hill back in the day, Andre 3000.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:43Speaker 1: To Common, Jay-Z, Sam Smith, The Roots. Is there a
- 17:47Speaker 1: dream collaboration out there that you'd be completely geeking out
- 17:51Speaker 1: over if it happened?
- 17:53Speaker 5: I was just asked that in my last interview. My
- 17:55Speaker 5: answers will be the same. Well, you know a different demographic.
- 18:00Speaker 5: I said I'd love to work with Kendrick Lamar. I
- 18:02Speaker 5: said I'd love to work with Olivia Dean.
- 18:04Speaker 3: That'd be great.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Well, we have a surprise for you. Olivia Dean, come
- 18:07Speaker 1: on in.
- 18:08Speaker 3: How cool would that be.
- 18:09Speaker 1: If she walked in right now?
- 18:10Speaker 3: That would be... The planning would be impeccable.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Now, you've played piano. You've sung with some of the
- 18:16Speaker 1: biggest artists in the world. You've won a bunch of
- 18:18Speaker 1: awards and performed for huge audiences. But what is, like,
- 18:21Speaker 1: the one thing in your life, with your wife especially,
- 18:23Speaker 1: Chrissy Teigen, what would she say you're absolutely terrible at? Like,
- 18:30Speaker 1: you're so good at everything. What would Chrissy say, you
- 18:33Speaker 1: know what, you're not good at that, John Legend?
- 18:35Speaker 3: Well, see, there's some things you.
- 18:38Speaker 1: I know what my answer is.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Want to not be good at so you don't get
- 18:41Speaker 3: asked to do it all the time?
- 18:42Speaker 1: Are you good at listening?
- 18:44Speaker 3: You're like, oh, I'm terrible at doing the dishes. Oh, no,
- 18:47Speaker 3: I can't do the dishes.
- 18:48Speaker 1: But do you ever get yelled at for not listening? No.
- 18:52Speaker 3: She believes I listen, I think.
- 18:54Speaker 5: I have to, like, Because sometimes she's on her phone,
- 18:57Speaker 5: and I'm like, hey, hello, hello.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Okay, so she's in a zone on the phone. What
- 19:02Speaker 1: is a typical night with you guys? Are you on
- 19:04Speaker 1: your phones in bed before you go to bed?
- 19:06Speaker 5: We like to watch shows together, so we like to
- 19:08Speaker 5: watch true crime documentaries, reality shows. We like 90 Day Fiance. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:18Speaker 5: We like to watch TV that is comment worthy, so
- 19:22Speaker 5: we can sit and talk about it.
- 19:24Speaker 3: That's our boy.
- 19:26Speaker 5: We like to roast whatever we're watching uh so we're
- 19:29Speaker 5: like making jokes to each other and and uh yeah
- 19:32Speaker 5: that's a big part of how we like after the
- 19:34Speaker 5: kids go to bed.
- 19:35Speaker 1: That was my question when do the kids go to
- 19:36Speaker 1: bed how much.
- 19:37Speaker 5: They're they're like fully in in bed and leaving us
- 19:39Speaker 5: alone by eight o'clock okay yeah and three hours maybe
- 19:43Speaker 5: yeah like so we'll get a couple hours to watch
- 19:45Speaker 5: something yeah absolutely.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Well we're so happy you're back with new music again
- 19:48Speaker 1: october 23rd is the release, right? For Muse?
- 19:51Speaker 5: Yeah, so the new album is called Muse. It's produced
- 19:53Speaker 5: fully by Pharrell Williams. Every song, we wrote every song together,
- 19:57Speaker 5: and it's out October 23rd. And for New Yorkers, I
- 20:01Speaker 5: have my first musical that I wrote, and you can
- 20:05Speaker 5: see it at The Shed, or whoever's visiting New York.
- 20:08Speaker 5: You can see it at the Shed from November 21st
- 20:10Speaker 5: to January 3rd. It's called Imitation of Life.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Wow. Well, John Legend, you're the same guy that I
- 20:16Speaker 1: remember 22 years ago when I first met you. Down
- 20:19Speaker 1: to earth, and I'm wishing you nothing but success, and
- 20:22Speaker 1: congratulations on everything.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 20:23Speaker 4: More Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 20:29Speaker 1: You pretty good at trivia?
- 20:31Speaker 2: Light FM's Trivia Battle.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Happy Thursday, Christine.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 20:35Speaker 1: It's a trivia battle time and uh on team cubby
- 20:38Speaker 1: is kara from caldwell new jersey hey kara we've talked
- 20:42Speaker 1: to you a long time ago remind us what you
- 20:44Speaker 1: do for a living.
- 20:45Speaker 2: I'm a high school guidance counselor all.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Right getting ready for school today huh yeah all right
- 20:51Speaker 1: well i hope you bring home a victory to kick
- 20:52Speaker 1: off your day who's she playing.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Against jessica from beautiful nutley new jersey good morning jessica
- 20:58Speaker 2: good morning morning what are you up to today.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I'm about to go to work.
- 21:04Speaker 2: I'm a speech therapist in the middle school.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Okay.
- 21:07Speaker 2: We're busy with school people.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Yes. A lot of school people.
- 21:11Speaker 5: Yes.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Well, thank you both for calling in. Only one can
- 21:15Speaker 1: win our trivia battle. You know the deal. Kara, you're
- 21:17Speaker 1: going to get three questions. Jessica, you'll get three. And
- 21:20Speaker 1: the best out of three will win our trivia battle. So, Kara,
- 21:23Speaker 1: you're up first. Pope Leo, he's a fan of which
- 21:26Speaker 1: team that's still alive in the Major League Baseball playoffs? A,
- 21:31Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Rays, B, Chicago White Sox, or C, Los
- 21:34Speaker 1: Angeles Dodgers? I think I know this one. B? B,
- 21:39Speaker 1: Chicago White Sox. Where he's from. Yep. You are correct here,
- 21:43Speaker 1: and you're on the board.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Jessica, here we go. Cats opened on Broadway 39 years ago.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Which pop star had a role in the big screen
- 21:51Speaker 2: reboot of the musical? Was it A, Mariah Carey, B,
- 21:55Speaker 2: Ariana Grande, or C, Taylor Swift?
- 21:59Speaker 4: Is it Taylor Swift?
- 22:01Speaker 1: It is. You got it.
- 22:03Speaker 4: 1-1.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Tie game. Hey, Kara, Simon Cowell just turned 67 years old.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Which of these competition shows has he never been a
- 22:10Speaker 1: judge on? Is it A, America's Got Talent, B, X Factor,
- 22:15Speaker 1: or C, The Voice?
- 22:17Speaker 5: The Voice?
- 22:18Speaker 3: Yes.
- 22:19Speaker 1: All right. It is 2-1 with Kara in the lead.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Jessica, the New York Giants recently cut Odell Beckham Jr.,
- 22:27Speaker 2: But what team just signed him to their practice squad yesterday?
- 22:31Speaker 2: Was it A, the New York Jets, B, Minnesota Vikings,
- 22:35Speaker 2: or C, L.A.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Rams?
- 22:38Speaker 2: Oh, my goodness. I'm going to say the Vikings. Yeah,
- 22:44Speaker 2: you got it.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Two to two. Or we could have another tie. It
- 22:47Speaker 1: looks like.
- 22:48Speaker 2: We're going for it.
- 22:49Speaker 1: The fourth tie of the week.
- 22:49Speaker 5: Yes.
- 22:50Speaker 1: All right. Well, it's two to two. Kara.
- 22:52Speaker 5: Hello.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Can you tell me where Doritos were invented? Doritos. Were
- 22:58Speaker 1: they invented A, from a street vendor in Mexico, B,
- 23:02Speaker 1: a restaurant in Disneyland, or C, Frito-Lay test kitchen? It's
- 23:09Speaker 1: a tough one. B? Say it again? B? A restaurant
- 23:14Speaker 1: in Disneyland? Is correct. Kara with a 3-2 lead.
- 23:20Speaker 2: So, Jessica, you need this for the tie. Where is
- 23:22Speaker 2: the world's largest Starbucks? Is it A, Seattle, B, Tokyo,
- 23:27Speaker 2: or C, Chicago? I'm going to say Chicago.
- 23:34Speaker 1: And you are.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Correct, and we have ourselves a tie.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Day four. All right, producer Kristen, write down a number
- 23:42Speaker 1: between 1 and 1,000. Seriously, I'm tired of 1 in 100.
- 23:47Speaker 1: I just want to change it up.
- 23:48Speaker 2: 1,000, that's too much math for us.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Okay, let's just do 1 in 100.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 23:53Speaker 1: All right, we're going to have Kristen pick a number
- 23:54Speaker 1: between 1 and 100. Kara, what is your number? Oh,
- 23:58Speaker 1: my gosh. All right, 47. All right, Jessica, we don't
- 24:06Speaker 1: know what she wrote down yet, but what is your guess? 80.
- 24:09Speaker 5: 80.
- 24:10Speaker 1: 80. Christine, can you speak for producer Kristen since she's
- 24:14Speaker 1: not allowed to talk?
- 24:14Speaker 2: Kristen has chosen the number 53, which would make Kara
- 24:17Speaker 2: our winner.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Congratulations. That was close.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Jessica, you played a beautiful game, and you know you
- 24:24Speaker 2: can always call us back, right?
- 24:26Speaker 5: Yes.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Thank you guys so much. Thank you, Jessica. And Cara, congrats.
- 24:31Speaker 2: So you are going to the New York City Wine
- 24:34Speaker 2: and Food Festival Saturday, October 17th or Sunday, October 18th.
- 24:39Speaker 2: It's sponsored by Jeep. There's only one. You are in.
- 24:43Speaker 2: You've got your tickets. Congratulations.
- 24:54Speaker 1: We thought now would be a good time to do
- 24:56Speaker 1: our Survivor Pool picks because actually producer Kristen is picking
- 24:59Speaker 1: a game.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. She's going for it.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Yeah. And for those that don't know how NFL Survivor
- 25:03Speaker 1: Pool works, it's simple. You have to pick one NFL
- 25:07Speaker 1: team each week. Once you pick that team, you can't
- 25:09Speaker 1: pick that team ever again. And they have to win.
- 25:12Speaker 1: If they lose, you are out. And we are all
- 25:15Speaker 1: now at pretty much sudden death.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Yeah, we are.
- 25:19Speaker 1: If one of us misses a game this week or
- 25:21Speaker 1: if all of us, we're out. Does that make you nervous,
- 25:24Speaker 1: or does the music make you nervous?
- 25:26Speaker 2: The music is always, yeah. It's my heart racing.
- 25:29Speaker 1: So dramatic. It really is. This is what they use
- 25:31Speaker 1: on ESPN when they're doing highlights of the NFL games.
- 25:33Speaker 1: That's why I like it. So anyway.
- 25:35Speaker 2: It does feel a little stressful, though.
- 25:37Speaker 1: You want to go first, Christine?
- 25:39Speaker 2: With my pick, or with Producer Kristen's?
- 25:41Speaker 1: No, you. I want to hear what you picked, because
- 25:43Speaker 1: I know you pick animals all the time.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I do, and I'm going to go against that
- 25:48Speaker 2: this week. And it didn't serve me well last time,
- 25:50Speaker 2: but here I go. I'm going to choose the Commanders
- 25:53Speaker 2: over the Giants. Sorry, New York. Commanders over the Giants.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Okay. It was last week you picked the Jets over
- 26:00Speaker 1: the Bears, I believe.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I picked the Bears over the Jets.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Yeah, Bears over Jets, and you got that right. You
- 26:06Speaker 1: went against the New York team, and it paid off. Right.
- 26:08Speaker 1: So you're going against the New York team again. It'll
- 26:10Speaker 1: pay off.
- 26:10Speaker 2: But it's not an animal.
- 26:11Speaker 1: But okay.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Right. Okay.
- 26:13Speaker 1: So producer Kristen, what did she pick?
- 26:16Speaker 2: She's got tonight's game. She's choosing the Cowboys over the Buccaneers.
- 26:21Speaker 1: All right. Good pick. Good pick. And I, I'm going
- 26:24Speaker 1: to go with, this is a crazy pick. There's two
- 26:27Speaker 1: teams in the NFL playing against each other and they're winless.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:31Speaker 1: That would be the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans.
- 26:34Speaker 2: I was looking at that one too.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Okay.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Which one are you going to go with?
- 26:37Speaker 1: They're both 0-4.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:39Speaker 1: And I think Houston is a tick better, like maybe
- 26:43Speaker 1: one notch better than the Titans. I predict Houston Texans
- 26:46Speaker 1: over the Tennessee Titans. Okay. And there you go. We'll
- 26:50Speaker 1: see what happens. On Monday, we'll reassess this and see
- 26:54Speaker 1: who wins or loses. But it's very possible.
- 26:56Speaker 2: We'll know for Kristen tomorrow, too.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Oh, that's right. You might be out. So we might
- 27:00Speaker 1: get breakfast from Kristen tomorrow. Yeah, we could. Are you nervous, Kristen?
- 27:04Speaker 2: Oh, she doesn't feel well. She may not be coming in.
- 27:07Speaker 1: She's coughing already. She might not come in tomorrow. Right, right.
- 27:09Speaker 4: All right.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Coming up, we've got three hours commercial-free music. It's Light FM.
- 27:14Speaker 1: And don't forget, tomorrow morning at this exact time, Bernie
- 27:16Speaker 1: Williams will be live in studio from the Yankees.
