- 0:00This is your nightly roundup of sports, stories of adaptability, and stories that
- 0:06should be trending but quite frankly aren't. Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:14Well Tonight on Saint Joseph's Day is a crossover that I never really ever thought
- 0:19I'd do on this podcast, but because they're so close, because it's a
- 0:26little bit of Italian today for Saint Joseph's Day, we also have to remember
- 0:37that just two days ago was this a little Irish as well for Saint Patrick's
- 0:45Day. And these two converging holidays of Saint Joseph's Day and Saint Patrick's Day.
- 0:52I looked into a little more on my blog for WordPress at ALEXGNYC dot
- 0:59com because see, the convergence of the Italian holiday of Saint Joseph's and the
- 1:07Irish holiday of Saint Patrick is so co fitting and so, you know,
- 1:15synchronistic, that's the word I'm looking work. Synchronistic because who built our city,
- 1:23The Irish and the Italians who immigrated here and rolled up their sleeves and
- 1:29you know, cut their teeth and did anything they could to assimilate here,
- 1:34to be here, to be an American. The Irish and the Italians.
- 1:42So the convergence of Saint Patrick's Day week and Saint Joseph's Week just felt symbolic
- 1:48of something we have to get back to, which is people working together.
- 1:55Matter of fact, we also saw that in law enforcement, which I'll get
- 1:59into in a moment because I haven't been on it a little bit, And
- 2:02you gotta hear this clip if you haven't already, I'll play that for you
- 2:07in a moment. But here's the bottom line. The Saint Joseph's Holiday,
- 2:16which is today and every March nineteenth, and the Saint Patrick's Holiday of March
- 2:23seventeenth, honor once again heritages that have built us, that are within our
- 2:30veins and blood and sweat and tears. I mean, personally, I am
- 2:35a member of the Jamison family line. According to my mom, Charles Jamison
- 2:42was what my great great great great grandfather. So the Irish lineage runs a
- 2:47little deep with our family. And every Saint Joseph's, every Saint Patrick's,
- 2:57every Columbus Day, we see the Italian and the Irish pride in their heritage
- 3:07beaming through New York City and at the older of Saint Joseph. Now,
- 3:13how's this for another intrinsically connected situation. Saint Joseph is honoring Christ's father,
- 3:25Joseph of Nazareth. And I'm sure it was a shock when Mary said that
- 3:36she was pregnant and they had not been together in that way, but he
- 3:43had the faith to move them to that inn where Christ was born. We
- 3:51cannot forget that. This Saint Joseph's day. Then let's flip the page to
- 3:58four point thirty two a d After years of being enslaved in Ireland, Patrick
- 4:08at the time, who became Saint Patrick, would go on and convert Ireland
- 4:15to Christianity, carrying on Joseph's work, working hand in hand the Irish and
- 4:21the Italian. And how about this for one more wrench in this whole equation.
- 4:29Patrick's family mother and father were Romans, so he was technically Italian helping
- 4:34the Irish. Can you see unity here in this crossover of days where we
- 4:43talk about the Zeppealese and the you know, for Irish. For Saint Patrick's
- 4:49say, what kind of guinness are you having? Guinness on tap? What
- 4:54bar are you going to? Can you see it's deeper than that, It's
- 4:58deeper than the Zeppelin and the Guinness. Patrick carried on the work that Joseph
- 5:06had faith to carry out years, decades, generations, eons before by bringing
- 5:16Mary to the Inn. They work together, even though they didn't know each
- 5:24other, they work together to bring about Christ into the world, Christ into
- 5:30Ireland. I don't usually get preachy on this podcast, but my, oh
- 5:34my, when you think of the roots that these two men have in common,
- 5:45it's astounding. And I only covered a little bit in my blog on
- 5:50alexianeweshi dot com for Saint Patrick's Day this weekend, knowing and working on the
- 5:58Joe Piscopo show and studying up and seeing the tiktoks on Saint Patrick, who
- 6:06was actually born in England in Wales, believe it or not. He was
- 6:11Scottish, he was Welsh, he was English. But he also helped bring
- 6:18Christianity to Ireland. So you see how they're connected, and that's a godly
- 6:27divine connection. Saint Joseph's the man who brought Jesus to who made it away
- 6:35and made away the Inn for Mary to have baby Jesus generations later, Saint
- 6:45Patrick carrying on the work that he had that Christ obviously was able to do
- 6:51being born at the Inn through the faith of Joseph and Mary, and during
- 6:58the enslavement, Patrick really took on the Christian and Christianity teachings and the faith,
- 7:05and that's why he went back to Ireland as a missionary. So when
- 7:13you look beyond just the great treat for Saint Joseph's Day and the great beers,
- 7:21the green beers for Saint Patrick's Day, and the great music that accompanied
- 7:28both heritages, you see there is a commonality of God there and God's worked
- 7:33there. And I will end today's show by saying I had asked a laud
- 7:42something one place said to me in an email today. It was kind of
- 7:47jarring. It said, Alex Garrett, do you know if you will be
- 7:53in heaven? A minute later, the Rangers scored and that was my answer
- 7:57tonight. We hope we pray right. So maybe when you think of that
- 8:07question, watch your favorite sports team and they'll have the answer for you.
- 8:11The sports gods always know. Also, I believe that. I believe that.
- 8:18But happy Saint Joseph's stay, Happy Saint Patrick's Day. A couple days
- 8:24later, and you know, these two men are intrinsically connected through God's work.
- 8:33It should bring a very different, maybe more nerdy approach to the day,
- 8:41but a more meaningful philosophical approach. They've been practical approach to why those
- 8:52two are saints and why they matter, even generations apart and two days apart
- 9:03each and every March. So yes, in my view, play that Irish
- 9:09music and of course play some Italian music tonight for Saint Joseph's and Saint Patrick.
- 9:30For those two saints, continue the work, and I believe there are
- 9:35reasons why we are here today on this earth. So think about it as
- 9:45you have that green beer and that Zeppeli to honor Saint Patrick and Saint Joseph
