- 0:11Speaker 1: Joe A.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Dell is joining us right now with a big smile
- 0:13Speaker 2: coming off that awesome weekend. Joe, we really appreciate the
- 0:16Speaker 2: time off of the historic weekend. How are you doing
- 0:20Speaker 2: and how much is your phone blowing up with all
- 0:23Speaker 2: kinds of fun and praise over the last forty eight hours.
- 0:27Speaker 1: First of all, you guys can hear me right? Yep?
- 0:29Speaker 1: We got you?
- 0:30Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, no, it's it's been crazy. You just baseball
- 0:35Speaker 3: is weird. You just never know when different opportunities are
- 0:38Speaker 3: going to present themselves. I was, uh, for those three
- 0:41Speaker 3: players that I was in a shift where I was
- 0:43Speaker 3: comfortable and covering my ground and KP you know about this,
- 0:46Speaker 3: but there's just certain spots in the field where you
- 0:48Speaker 3: get to where you just know you're going to make plays.
- 0:51Speaker 3: And for those three balls that I caught, I was,
- 0:53Speaker 3: I was right there and so just pretty special. I
- 0:56Speaker 3: think it's kind of a full circle moment when obviously,
- 0:59Speaker 3: you know Tori talking about kind of my evolution through
- 1:02Speaker 3: finding out how to be a better defender and working
- 1:04Speaker 3: on it and trying to you know, add it to
- 1:07Speaker 3: my game as something that you know, I could put
- 1:10Speaker 3: towards the team and help the team to be better.
- 1:12Speaker 3: And yeah, like you said, my phone's been going off
- 1:15Speaker 3: for pretty constantly, NonStop for a couple of days now,
- 1:18Speaker 3: so it's been crazy, crazy moment.
- 1:21Speaker 4: Well, thanks for getting back to me. I know how
- 1:23Speaker 4: busy your phone was, but I reached out to you.
- 1:25Speaker 4: I told you I woke up one in the morning
- 1:27Speaker 4: let my dog out, and my phone was blowing up too,
- 1:29Speaker 4: And I'm like, it's very rare in this game. You
- 1:32Speaker 4: get an opportunity to rob one home run, yet three
- 1:35Speaker 4: opportunities in one game, and you made all three plays.
- 1:37Speaker 4: But my question to you is you hear what Tory
- 1:41Speaker 4: had to say about you. But I was also your
- 1:44Speaker 4: teammate a couple of years ago, and in order to
- 1:46Speaker 4: be a lead at this game, you have to.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Have a lot of confidence in yourself.
- 1:49Speaker 4: At what point not to see you lost confidence, but
- 1:52Speaker 4: at what point did you kind of just say, hey,
- 1:54Speaker 4: I don't have all the answers, let me, you know,
- 1:57Speaker 4: take some of the advice that guys like Toy are
- 1:59Speaker 4: giving me. And then Porter when he was there, you
- 2:01Speaker 4: know what changed for you?
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I think when we played together that was kind
- 2:06Speaker 3: of the start of me kind of asking those types
- 2:08Speaker 3: of questions. And trying to figure out, hey, like, how
- 2:10Speaker 3: do I approach this a different way? Really, through the
- 2:13Speaker 3: minor leagues, I never really had any issues defensively. It
- 2:16Speaker 3: was kind of like I made the plays when I
- 2:18Speaker 3: made when I made them. But obviously to get to
- 2:20Speaker 3: the big leagues, the balls are hit a little bit harder.
- 2:23Speaker 3: You know, the optics are completely different, and so you know,
- 2:27Speaker 3: I kind of had to over time kind of swallow
- 2:29Speaker 3: my pride and say, hey, like, this is something that
- 2:32Speaker 3: I don't have the answers for. You know, I was
- 2:34Speaker 3: used to kind of knowing those answers, but you know,
- 2:37Speaker 3: when you get up here, it's different. You know, you
- 2:39Speaker 3: got to focus in a different way and look at
- 2:41Speaker 3: and you know, and look at things through a different lens.
- 2:44Speaker 3: And so just using the resources the people around me
- 2:47Speaker 3: and finding a routine that works for me has really
- 2:50Speaker 3: just been the biggest change.
- 2:52Speaker 1: One of the things before.
- 2:53Speaker 5: But I got I gotta say this, I was your
- 2:55Speaker 5: teammate before KP was your teammates. So KP, don't try
- 3:00Speaker 5: to like take all the credit for this young man
- 3:03Speaker 5: who's had a beard since you were like seven it
- 3:06Speaker 5: seems like twelve. Okay, So anyway you talk about you
- 3:12Speaker 5: talk about like I kind of just knew what I
- 3:15Speaker 5: needed to do in Triple A. We talked about before
- 3:17Speaker 5: you came on, how the Angels. Somebody does well in
- 3:21Speaker 5: the minor leagues, call him up to the big leagues,
- 3:22Speaker 5: call him up to the big leagues. Do you feel
- 3:24Speaker 5: like you would have maybe learned some of these things
- 3:27Speaker 5: had you spend a little more time, spent a little
- 3:29Speaker 5: bit more time in the minor leagues where you were
- 3:31Speaker 5: doing so well, or was it something that you needed
- 3:34Speaker 5: to see how dudes hit the ball harder in the
- 3:36Speaker 5: big leaguest you needed to see these different things and
- 3:39Speaker 5: make these adjustments in the big leagues.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean great point. I definitely think I needed
- 3:46Speaker 3: to get punched in the jaw a little bit. I
- 3:48Speaker 3: think that's part of it. I think that I've always
- 3:51Speaker 3: been somebody that I thrive off of the adversity and
- 3:54Speaker 3: trying to come back and you know, find a way
- 3:56Speaker 3: to be better and recognize what didn't go well and
- 3:59Speaker 3: try to find the answers. I think throughout the process
- 4:02Speaker 3: of the minor leagues to Triple A, I kind of
- 4:05Speaker 3: had it figured out, you know, to an extent where.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I don't want to say boring, that's not really the
- 4:12Speaker 1: right word.
- 4:13Speaker 3: This is still you know, professional baseball and competitive at that,
- 4:17Speaker 3: but it wasn't the big leagues. Like the big leagues
- 4:19Speaker 3: requires you to be at a certain focus every day
- 4:21Speaker 3: that is different, and it requires you to learn something
- 4:24Speaker 3: and you know, you might have everything figured out in
- 4:27Speaker 3: practice and in the game it doesn't show up.
- 4:29Speaker 1: And so I.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Definitely think that I benefited from not having it figured
- 4:34Speaker 3: out and then being able to come in and you know,
- 4:37Speaker 3: try to put the pieces together. In the moment, you're like, man,
- 4:41Speaker 3: I don't want to go through this. But then on
- 4:43Speaker 3: the other side, you know, you're you're like, hey, this
- 4:46Speaker 3: is what this is what I needed. And I definitely
- 4:48Speaker 3: would say that.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Yeah, take us through all three of those plays, because
- 4:52Speaker 4: it feels like it got difficult more difficult. And then
- 4:55Speaker 4: you know, arguably one of the best catches I've ever seen,
- 4:57Speaker 4: And when you're standing in the bleachers holding the glove
- 5:01Speaker 4: up and I know that photo has been iconic, Like
- 5:03Speaker 4: I think someone told me four million views already. At
- 5:07Speaker 4: some point of you like, holy shit, I just made
- 5:09Speaker 4: this play.
- 5:12Speaker 1: It was pretty crazy.
- 5:13Speaker 3: So the first one that was hit, it was a
- 5:16Speaker 3: lot like a play that I made a year ago
- 5:18Speaker 3: where I was kind of, you know, at the yellow line. Obviously,
- 5:21Speaker 3: we have, you know, on right field, the elevated fence
- 5:24Speaker 3: with the you know, it has the line and you
- 5:27Speaker 3: try to block everything above it because anything over that
- 5:30Speaker 3: to home run. So I got back there pretty good.
- 5:32Speaker 3: I was on a deeper shift, so I was already
- 5:35Speaker 3: closer towards the wall, and then I jumped and I
- 5:38Speaker 3: was like, man, I just made that play, you know
- 5:39Speaker 3: what I mean. But it was a play that I've
- 5:41Speaker 3: made before, or close to it, maybe a little higher
- 5:44Speaker 3: up than you know, the normal catches kind of at
- 5:47Speaker 3: the wall there, and so we were pretty fired up.
- 5:51Speaker 1: The fans were in it.
- 5:52Speaker 3: And then the next one was hit very similar, and
- 5:56Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm you know, I'm having some sort of
- 5:58Speaker 3: just like a flashback and I like playing this. And
- 6:00Speaker 3: so I go back to the same spot that I
- 6:03Speaker 3: caught the original ball and pretty much did the same jump,
- 6:07Speaker 3: and I was in the same spot and I'm like, man,
- 6:09Speaker 3: I just took two away. And throughout the course of
- 6:12Speaker 3: this game, this was the pitcher's goal. I mean, Netto
- 6:15Speaker 3: had the home run to start off the game for us,
- 6:17Speaker 3: but it was pretty quiet all the way through the game,
- 6:20Speaker 3: so we were kind of just battling defense at that point,
- 6:24Speaker 3: knowing that the starters were throwing well and the bullpen
- 6:26Speaker 3: guys were throwing well. So we get to that ninth inning.
- 6:31Speaker 3: You know, historically over the past couple of games, Seattle's
- 6:33Speaker 3: been pulling the ball. They were pulling the ball, the
- 6:35Speaker 3: lefties were pulling everything. So we were kind of like, hey,
- 6:39Speaker 3: let's just edge on the side of getting closer towards
- 6:41Speaker 3: the foul line and just playing a little deeper because
- 6:43Speaker 3: most of the times than those shifts you play, you know,
- 6:46Speaker 3: a little shallow, especially when you know you have those
- 6:49Speaker 3: you know, runners in scoring position and stuff like that,
- 6:51Speaker 3: you're trying to take away cheap base hits. But we
- 6:54Speaker 3: were playing back and I was on the corner and
- 6:57Speaker 3: you know, JP hit that ball down the line and
- 7:00Speaker 3: had enough hangtime.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I got to the wall in the.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Corner, the little roundabout, and I'm sitting there looking at
- 7:06Speaker 3: this and it's it's literally me in the foul pole.
- 7:09Speaker 3: So it's like I'm sitting here, I'm looking at the
- 7:11Speaker 3: foul pole on the left side, and I'm seeing the
- 7:14Speaker 3: ball and it's starting to tail back. Over and I
- 7:17Speaker 3: look in the stands me and this guy made eye
- 7:20Speaker 3: contact and then I looked back up up and I'm
- 7:23Speaker 3: seeing this ball and I'm like, man, I got a chance.
- 7:24Speaker 3: And I kind of hit like a little hip jump
- 7:27Speaker 3: and fall over and they had my back. Some guy
- 7:31Speaker 3: apparently was beating the hell out of my shoulder and
- 7:34Speaker 3: I don't even remember it.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I didn't feel it.
- 7:35Speaker 3: It was kind of like a one of those moments
- 7:38Speaker 3: of just like blackout. But I landed the fall and
- 7:41Speaker 3: so no, that's the positive. I shot up and was
- 7:45Speaker 3: holding the ball up and it was like I was
- 7:47Speaker 3: a fan watching the game.
- 7:49Speaker 1: So it's kind of crazy.
- 7:52Speaker 2: With over thirty five million downloads, what is the number
- 7:56Speaker 2: one rated ticketing app?
- 7:57Speaker 6: Todd Father, It's simple, man, see geek guys, I know, man.
- 8:00Speaker 6: They have a lot of things that helps you out
- 8:03Speaker 6: along the way. They have green dots meaning good and
- 8:05Speaker 6: red dots meaning bad, and it's on a scale of
- 8:07Speaker 6: one to ten, showing you, Scott, how good the seats are.
- 8:10Speaker 6: And sometimes you want to sit in the nosebleedzers. Sometimes
- 8:13Speaker 6: you want to sit in really good seats and Scott,
- 8:15Speaker 6: you know the code.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Right, Yeah? I do.
- 8:16Speaker 2: And also I know that you always like a good deal. Oh,
- 8:18Speaker 2: so SEKK helps you out all the time with that.
- 8:21Speaker 2: They also help you out with the exclusive FT code
- 8:24Speaker 2: which is Territory ten for ten percent off your next
- 8:27Speaker 2: set of tickets at Sea Geek. That's ten percent off
- 8:30Speaker 2: any tickets with promo code t er r it r
- 8:34Speaker 2: y one zero. Make sure you click the link in
- 8:36Speaker 2: the description to download the app and you can have
- 8:39Speaker 2: that code automatically added to your account so that you
- 8:41Speaker 2: can use it later. There are regular season MLB games
- 8:44Speaker 2: going on right now. There are hot tickets across the country,
- 8:48Speaker 2: so make sure you go to sea Geek. They will
- 8:50Speaker 2: take care of.
- 8:51Speaker 1: You all right.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Rank them, rank them as far as coolest, but also
- 8:57Speaker 5: ranked them as far as most difficult.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Yes, I'd probably say the coolest is definitely the last
- 9:07Speaker 3: one by far, especially being in the ninth inning. You know,
- 9:11Speaker 3: in a one run ball game like that, I mean
- 9:13Speaker 3: going into the stands.
- 9:14Speaker 1: You can't beat that.
- 9:15Speaker 3: You do that in the backyard as a kid, like
- 9:17Speaker 3: That's that's like something you you know, you re enact,
- 9:20Speaker 3: So that's definitely the most difficult, the coolest. The second
- 9:25Speaker 3: catch was probably the easiest, just because I had done
- 9:29Speaker 3: the first one, so I kind of like had like
- 9:31Speaker 3: a gist of like where I was going to go
- 9:34Speaker 3: and how I was going to make the play.
- 9:36Speaker 1: The first one.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Was probably the second hardest, but I probably say that
- 9:42Speaker 3: that last one, man, it was that was a blackout
- 9:44Speaker 3: moment for sure.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Better feeling. Let's just take the last catch going in
- 9:50Speaker 4: the stands or hitting a walk up home run.
- 9:55Speaker 3: To be honest with you, and the ninth inning like that,
- 9:59Speaker 3: and we had been grind in an all game long
- 10:01Speaker 3: doing something on a defensive end like that.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I'm taking that.
- 10:05Speaker 3: I'm taking that, like the opportunity to be able to
- 10:08Speaker 3: be in a position to do that versus you know,
- 10:11Speaker 3: obviously getting a pitch to hit. I mean, the rarity
- 10:14Speaker 3: of that in itself is I mean, like, how often
- 10:16Speaker 3: are you going to get a ball that you could.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Catch like that to save a run? You know?
- 10:22Speaker 3: And the knife inning, that's that's like you can't draw
- 10:26Speaker 3: it up any better than that.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Big league galfitders are always you know, working on being
- 10:31Speaker 5: able to feel the wall, run to the warning track MVP,
- 10:35Speaker 5: getting your reps in. Have you ever made a cool
- 10:38Speaker 5: catch like this in VP that you're like, Hey, that'd
- 10:41Speaker 5: have been sick if I had done that in a game.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Yeah, So I actually last year was the first year, well,
- 10:47Speaker 3: I guess it was two years ago, the first year
- 10:49Speaker 3: I started really working on it, because that was actually
- 10:53Speaker 3: something that I struggled with, was getting to the wall.
- 10:55Speaker 3: I would probably get like a step or so from
- 10:57Speaker 3: the wall and then kind of jump earlier, misstep early.
- 11:01Speaker 3: So we really worked on getting me back and just
- 11:04Speaker 3: trusting that hey, like I'm going to know when I
- 11:06Speaker 3: get there. And I've made a couple that are pretty cool,
- 11:11Speaker 3: particularly in centerfield. Last year, I made a few during
- 11:13Speaker 3: practice that were that were pretty cool. But yeah, I've
- 11:18Speaker 3: worked on it. You know, It's been something that I've
- 11:20Speaker 3: worked on and just not all home runs, but just
- 11:22Speaker 3: getting back to the wall to have a chance to
- 11:25Speaker 3: you know, make a play. And that's that's what happened
- 11:28Speaker 3: to us in the game of inches and feet. You know,
- 11:31Speaker 3: you never know something's gonna sneak over. Balls are hit
- 11:34Speaker 3: a lot farther at times, the mis hits go a
- 11:36Speaker 3: lot farther. So just working on getting back and getting
- 11:41Speaker 3: in space. But I made some pretty cool ones doing that,
- 11:44Speaker 3: doing that drill for sure.
- 11:46Speaker 4: How much do you think getting the opportunity to play
- 11:49Speaker 4: center field last year kind of has just really helped
- 11:52Speaker 4: your confidence because in order to be an elite center fielder,
- 11:55Speaker 4: you kind of got to be the man out there.
- 11:57Speaker 4: You've got to be the alpha, and I know, for
- 12:00Speaker 4: when I moved to the corners, I had to be
- 12:02Speaker 4: a little bit more submissive to the center fielder. You
- 12:05Speaker 4: hesitate a little bit more, but when you go from
- 12:07Speaker 4: centerfield to a corner, you kind of have that alpha mindset,
- 12:10Speaker 4: and it seems like it's really kind of helped you
- 12:13Speaker 4: with obviously some of these plays you made a couple
- 12:15Speaker 4: of nights ago.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely, Kpie. I mean, like spatial awareness I think
- 12:21Speaker 3: is the big one too. That kind of comes to
- 12:22Speaker 3: mind because when you're in center field, there's more than
- 12:27Speaker 3: the left that you're worried about, you know. I know,
- 12:29Speaker 3: when I'm in right field, I'm you know, depending on
- 12:31Speaker 3: where my shift is, I'm only really worried about the
- 12:34Speaker 3: part of the field that I have to cover that's
- 12:37Speaker 3: nobody else can get to. Right when you're in center field,
- 12:39Speaker 3: there's two areas that you have to worry about covering
- 12:41Speaker 3: at all at all points, and obviously behind you because
- 12:46Speaker 3: you know that's the bigger part of the field. So yeah,
- 12:49Speaker 3: I think for me, it just kind of opened my
- 12:51Speaker 3: eyes to you know, knowing my surroundings, being more aware
- 12:56Speaker 3: and when it comes to making plays like this, where
- 12:58Speaker 3: you're by the wall, you're close, you're in small you know,
- 13:01Speaker 3: areas to make plays, you don't have as much room,
- 13:03Speaker 3: you have less time to make a decision. I think
- 13:06Speaker 3: going back into right field after having some of that
- 13:08Speaker 3: experience and center has kind of.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Allowed me to be more aware of where I am.
- 13:13Speaker 3: On the field and be able to do a better
- 13:16Speaker 3: job of getting off to that jump and trusting, you know,
- 13:20Speaker 3: trusting your read and you're in center field, you have
- 13:22Speaker 3: to trust it, you know. And that's like one thing
- 13:24Speaker 3: that I learned through the middle of the year last
- 13:26Speaker 3: year was just go, you know, just go. You'll figure
- 13:30Speaker 3: it out once you get there. But really that, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 3: special awareness and knowing where you are is huge.
- 13:38Speaker 5: What are your teammates was the most just about the
- 13:42Speaker 5: last catch.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Mike was fired up, man, Mike was fired up. I
- 13:48Speaker 3: haven't yea, I haven't seen him that fired Like. It
- 13:50Speaker 3: was really cool for me to see because you know,
- 13:52Speaker 3: he came up and told me that it was that's
- 13:54Speaker 3: one of the most remarkable things he's ever seen. And
- 13:57Speaker 3: you know, obviously him and Tory they sat out and
- 14:00Speaker 3: watched my post game on the field, and for both
- 14:03Speaker 3: of those guys, as much baseball and as much success
- 14:07Speaker 3: and accolades as they both have been able to get to,
- 14:10Speaker 3: just the fact that they were in alve of what
- 14:12Speaker 3: I did was just extremely extremely special. And just to
- 14:18Speaker 3: see the looks on everybody's face of just how they
- 14:20Speaker 3: were part of a baseball experience that they've never seen
- 14:23Speaker 3: before was just really cool.
- 14:25Speaker 1: And man, it's I don't know.
- 14:27Speaker 3: It was one of those things where I was getting
- 14:30Speaker 3: asked questions after and I was like, I don't even
- 14:32Speaker 3: know what to tell you.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I mean, this was insane, so obviously it had.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Never been done before, and just like the hugs and
- 14:42Speaker 3: people saying that they appreciated that they could be a
- 14:46Speaker 3: part of this was just pretty cool.
- 14:48Speaker 4: So, yeah, speaking of Mike, you've been as teammate for
- 14:52Speaker 4: a while. It was probably the first time you've seen
- 14:54Speaker 4: him completely healthy. What's that been like, Because I think
- 14:57Speaker 4: that's the biggest regret in my career is one that
- 14:59Speaker 4: I didn't get chance to play with him. He was
- 15:00Speaker 4: hurt that all year, But I also didn't get to
- 15:02Speaker 4: see him healthy and perform like we've all been accustomed to.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Seeing him do. It's gonna be special, man.
- 15:09Speaker 3: It changes the dynamic of the entire lineup because Mike's
- 15:13Speaker 3: one of those guys with how much power and how
- 15:16Speaker 3: much ability he has to do damage with the plate
- 15:18Speaker 3: and really hit for any type of average or do
- 15:21Speaker 3: whatever he is. You know, he has like twelve walks
- 15:26Speaker 3: right now, you know what I mean. Like this guy,
- 15:29Speaker 3: like if they're not throwing him strikes, he's taking the base,
- 15:32Speaker 3: he's allowing traffic, which was a kind of a struggle
- 15:35Speaker 3: for us last year was getting guys to kind of
- 15:38Speaker 3: get on base in those times when we needed it.
- 15:40Speaker 3: And then when he needs to, you know, they throw
- 15:42Speaker 3: him his one or two pitches a game, almost like
- 15:45Speaker 3: the Barry Bonds treatment, and he smashes one in the
- 15:48Speaker 3: gap or hits a two run homer, and it's like
- 15:50Speaker 3: that's just vintage Mike Trout. So just having him back
- 15:53Speaker 3: in center field, feeling healthy, being in his element, I mean,
- 15:57Speaker 3: it's so big for us collect as a unit because
- 16:02Speaker 3: there's just so many things that he can threat you
- 16:04Speaker 3: with on the baseball field, And it feels like for
- 16:08Speaker 3: me that he just learned something new every day and
- 16:12Speaker 3: it's just the type of special talent that he is.
- 16:14Speaker 3: And I mean, what else can you say. It's Mike Trout,
- 16:17Speaker 3: So I mean having him out there, running him out
- 16:19Speaker 3: there in center.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I mean it's pretty electric.
- 16:22Speaker 5: For us, all right, talking about health and Trout is,
- 16:26Speaker 5: you know, the biggest thing obviously going to be a
- 16:27Speaker 5: future Hall of Famer all that stuff. One do you
- 16:30Speaker 5: know how his hand is?
- 16:31Speaker 1: And two?
- 16:32Speaker 5: Does your body feel different in just these first like
- 16:36Speaker 5: week and a half two weeks of games playing right
- 16:39Speaker 5: field compared to center, because that was the big talk
- 16:41Speaker 5: that Mike wanted to go back to center after playing
- 16:45Speaker 5: right some last year.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:48Speaker 3: He he obviously got banged up pretty good in the
- 16:50Speaker 3: game yesterday, but I think he's gonna be okay. I
- 16:53Speaker 3: think I think a lot of this is precautionary. He
- 16:56Speaker 3: had like a little bit of a ruse going on,
- 16:58Speaker 3: like on the hands. It was weird how I missed
- 17:02Speaker 3: the pad kind of It's like he had the pad
- 17:04Speaker 3: on top, but the ball kind of hit like on
- 17:08Speaker 3: the side like under. So he'll be fine, though, We're
- 17:13Speaker 3: we're hoping that. You know, he's gonna be good the
- 17:16Speaker 3: next day or so. But yeah, I mean having him
- 17:19Speaker 3: back in center field, we that's what we wanted, you know.
- 17:22Speaker 3: We wanted him to feel like he wanted to run
- 17:24Speaker 3: back out there. We wanted him to be comfortable. Obviously,
- 17:27Speaker 3: for me, I was like, hey, I'm gonna do whatever
- 17:29Speaker 3: I can. You know, obviously I've been primarily a corner outfielder,
- 17:33Speaker 3: but you know, if I needed to go into center,
- 17:35Speaker 3: if he wanted to play right, whatever that he wanted
- 17:38Speaker 3: to do, we were all behind it. And obviously he said, hey, look,
- 17:42Speaker 3: I'm ready. You know, he's really put a ton of
- 17:45Speaker 3: work in the off season on getting himself back right
- 17:48Speaker 3: and feeling strong and ready to go and ready to
- 17:50Speaker 3: take on the monster of the season, and he knows
- 17:54Speaker 3: how to do this. And so when he said, hey,
- 17:56Speaker 3: I'm ready, like I want to go back in center,
- 17:58Speaker 3: We're like, hell, yeah, let's go, you know. And so
- 18:02Speaker 3: having him back out there is is pretty awesome, and
- 18:07Speaker 3: he's he's fired up about it.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Joe, did you see the Mariners hitting meeting the day
- 18:14Speaker 4: after you meet those three catches?
- 18:16Speaker 1: Yeah, the game plans, Yeah, don't hit it, don't hit it.
- 18:20Speaker 1: To Jo. Yeah, I saw that. That's crazy how a
- 18:25Speaker 1: greed is.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Obviously, you guys are rivals and stuff, and you guys
- 18:29Speaker 4: are competing for the division, but to really just kind
- 18:32Speaker 4: of respect the type of day you had, because I
- 18:34Speaker 4: don't think we've ever seen a better defensive performance, you know,
- 18:36Speaker 4: in the heat of the moment, to kind of just
- 18:38Speaker 4: have fun with it, you know what, a sign of
- 18:40Speaker 4: respect for what you were able to do the night before.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I was that was pretty awesome. At first, I
- 18:46Speaker 3: thought one of our own guys wrote it, and so
- 18:48Speaker 3: I was like, that's funny. I'm gonna go see that
- 18:50Speaker 3: in the weight room or something like that. And then
- 18:52Speaker 3: I looked out and I saw it, So it was
- 18:55Speaker 3: that's funny, it's good stuff, all right.
- 18:58Speaker 5: Did you see your defense of metrics scores after that game?
- 19:02Speaker 5: Because everybody looks like at the box scoring, like who
- 19:05Speaker 5: three for four? What's the score? But when you rob
- 19:07Speaker 5: three homers, you expect your like defensive run saved to
- 19:11Speaker 5: be through the roof, correct.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean you would expect. So Actually I didn't
- 19:16Speaker 3: even peek it. There was so much going on. It
- 19:18Speaker 3: was past like day Like it was like I was
- 19:20Speaker 3: kind of just like everywhere. But no, give me the line.
- 19:24Speaker 3: What do we got?
- 19:25Speaker 5: Okay, so your defensive run saved is plus four, which
- 19:29Speaker 5: was awesome, but you're outs above average. You got dinged,
- 19:34Speaker 5: you robbed three home runs, and you gotta you got
- 19:37Speaker 5: a bad outs above average score. Try to explain that
- 19:40Speaker 5: to to me as a now baseball fan, no longer
- 19:43Speaker 5: playing in the metric era.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I don't know how to I don't know how to
- 19:48Speaker 1: break these down. I'm gonna have to ask for help.
- 19:51Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Maybe because the ball you caught was out of the
- 19:54Speaker 4: field of play, so they dinged you because that was
- 19:57Speaker 4: supposed to be a spectator's ball. You're now selfish. You're
- 20:01Speaker 4: now considered selfish if you took it sooner.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Your yeah, yeah, I didn't. I wasn't.
- 20:08Speaker 7: I wasn't a fan in the stands, And so that's
- 20:10Speaker 7: why I'm gonna do it. I'm questioning. I'm questioning life
- 20:15Speaker 7: with defensive metrics. When I saw that, yeah, defensive run
- 20:18Speaker 7: safe certainly had it down. So that's the stat cast.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Outs above average fielding run value, right, that's like the
- 20:24Speaker 2: number they put on a fielder overall with their defensive value,
- 20:28Speaker 2: and it was based off catch probabilities that were very high, Joe.
- 20:32Speaker 1: So that would be my follow up question.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Is do you feel like the catch probabilities for a
- 20:37Speaker 2: few of those plays should have been I think one
- 20:39Speaker 2: or two of them were ninety plus percent and one
- 20:41Speaker 2: of them was at least eighty plus percent, And I'm
- 20:43Speaker 2: just like, I'm sorry, we're looking maybe at some ground
- 20:46Speaker 2: to cover, but not the the terrain and everything else.
- 20:50Speaker 2: I just think that it's missing the mark when it's evaluating.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Yeah, there's been some plays where, you know, because because
- 20:59Speaker 3: I know as an outfolder and obviously you know, you
- 21:01Speaker 3: guys know, KP knows. But sometimes when you don't make
- 21:03Speaker 3: a play, you look at kind of like what the
- 21:05Speaker 3: percentage would be if you were to make the play,
- 21:08Speaker 3: and sometimes the you know, the reports are shocking because
- 21:12Speaker 3: you're like, hey, like, I know that I did what
- 21:14Speaker 3: I could to try to get to this ball and
- 21:16Speaker 3: make this play, and they're saying that I should have
- 21:19Speaker 3: caught this by an eighty percent chance, and it's like, hey, like,
- 21:22Speaker 3: no way, you know what I mean. And So I
- 21:25Speaker 3: think there's a little bit of kind of question marks
- 21:27Speaker 3: around catch probability in a way of did we watch
- 21:32Speaker 3: what happened, or are we looking at where this ball
- 21:34Speaker 3: ended up or we good looking at how the ball
- 21:36Speaker 3: was hit and what the field is, you know what
- 21:39Speaker 3: I mean. I don't really know the exact answers to that,
- 21:43Speaker 3: but sometimes when you get wind late at night in
- 21:46Speaker 3: Angel Stadium, it'll push the ball right. That changes the
- 21:49Speaker 3: catch probability, right, Like maybe if this ball was hit
- 21:52Speaker 3: during the daytime or during out or at another field
- 21:56Speaker 3: or in another space, like maybe the catch probability would
- 22:00Speaker 3: be more about eighty ninety percent. But when you're playing
- 22:02Speaker 3: again with different factors, the difficulty changes on some of
- 22:07Speaker 3: these plays. And so how we take that into account,
- 22:10Speaker 3: I don't know, but I do know as an outfoot
- 22:13Speaker 3: or that's for sure a fact.
- 22:14Speaker 2: So yeah, it definitely was questioning some things for me.
- 22:19Speaker 2: And all you can do is catch a damn ball, So.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Just go catch it, and just go catch it. That's it.
- 22:25Speaker 1: And it was awesome, man.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I mean, I haven't found anyone yet that has said
- 22:29Speaker 2: they've seen three home run robberies in one game in
- 22:32Speaker 2: the major leagues, So I don't think there's official record
- 22:35Speaker 2: books for that, but I feel like you just hit it,
- 22:37Speaker 2: and I don't think it's going to be easy to
- 22:39Speaker 2: overcome with everything that needs to happen for that to
- 22:42Speaker 2: all line up, So we really appreciate the time end
- 22:44Speaker 2: to join us right after that crazy weekend.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us, and good luck man.
- 22:49Speaker 2: We'll patch up with you again sooner.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Absolutely, it was crazy. I appreciate it us
