- 0:00Speaker 1: And now Move the Sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
- 0:07Speaker 2: What's up, everybody, DJ, Bucky Rhett back with you on
- 0:09Speaker 2: our our first Monday Reaction episode of Move the Sticks. Reminder,
- 0:14Speaker 2: we've got five episodes coming your way this week, Monday
- 0:16Speaker 2: through Friday.
- 0:18Speaker 3: How about five? That number was five?
- 0:20Speaker 4: Wow.
- 0:21Speaker 3: I feel like Buck, I feel like Rhett.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I don't know if he just is like he's scared
- 0:27Speaker 2: of the Reaction podcast, but I feel like he looks
- 0:29Speaker 2: especially pale today.
- 0:31Speaker 3: That's That's what I'm getting at.
- 0:32Speaker 5: Yeah, he's a little washed out. He's a little washed
- 0:34Speaker 5: out today. He's not he's not at his best.
- 0:36Speaker 4: He certainly that's a little better. That's a little better,
- 0:41Speaker 4: a little better. Get the right lighting, you know.
- 0:43Speaker 6: Just waite sure, white Wall back there. It's it's a
- 0:45Speaker 6: tough de hagi. We're good man. I've just been grinded,
- 0:48Speaker 6: you know.
- 0:49Speaker 1: It's been so it's a tough turnaround from Sunday to Monday,
- 0:51Speaker 1: you know, and a lot of sleep involved in these
- 0:53Speaker 1: in these deals here.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Bucky's got the coffee going. I mean, this is it
- 0:58Speaker 2: really is. It's one of my favorite pods of the
- 1:00Speaker 2: year because we preview for months and months and months
- 1:03Speaker 2: and months and months, and we think, you know what
- 1:04Speaker 2: things are gonna look like.
- 1:06Speaker 5: I E, I E.
- 1:07Speaker 3: You think the Steelers might really be good.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Uh, and then all of a sudden, the game's happening.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I fell, Oh, good time. But that's why we're gonna
- 1:17Speaker 2: We're gonna do what we've done over the last few years.
- 1:19Speaker 2: We're gonna we're gonna try and focus in on eight games,
- 1:21Speaker 2: and we're gonna really lock in on those, and we'll
- 1:22Speaker 2: have some other notes and nuggets on the other games
- 1:24Speaker 2: in case we don't get to that one with a
- 1:26Speaker 2: deep dive. But I say we jump right into it, guys,
- 1:30Speaker 2: and I can start with the one that I was at,
- 1:31Speaker 2: which I think was one of the better games of
- 1:33Speaker 2: the day, which was the Dolphins and the Chargers in
- 1:36Speaker 2: a shootout between the fifth and sixth picks from the
- 1:38Speaker 2: twenty twenty draft. Tua Buck it was. It was like
- 1:43Speaker 2: Alabama Tua it was. If you remember, we used to
- 1:46Speaker 2: compare him to a card dealer, like a Vegas card dealer,
- 1:49Speaker 2: with just like the balls out. I posted a little
- 1:51Speaker 2: clip on Instagram because you know, people were saying, wow, man,
- 1:54Speaker 2: I don't understand they've got a backup left tackle and
- 1:56Speaker 2: there Taron Armstead's not playing. Chargers have all these high
- 1:59Speaker 2: priced pieces up front. How did not get any pressure
- 2:01Speaker 2: on him?
- 2:02Speaker 1: Well, I think, he said, by the way DJ and
- 2:05Speaker 1: before the game on Sunday.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought I thought they would eat him up
- 2:10Speaker 2: because last year the Chargers were able to get their
- 2:11Speaker 2: hands on those wide outs.
- 2:13Speaker 3: This year it was free access all over the place.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Some of it I think had to do with them
- 2:18Speaker 2: maybe understanding the rules to Brandon Staley's defense a little bit,
- 2:22Speaker 2: with what they were doing shifts and motioning, which loosened
- 2:24Speaker 2: up coverage. And then they had they had a slick
- 2:27Speaker 2: little motion where they had Tyreek Hill lined up snug
- 2:30Speaker 2: buck and then he would jet out and then go.
- 2:32Speaker 2: So it's like the Arena League. It's like getting a
- 2:34Speaker 2: head start and you don't get a hand on him.
- 2:36Speaker 2: You got no shot. So Tyreek Hill goes over two
- 2:39Speaker 2: hundred yards, he has seven catches over fifteen yards. Explosive
- 2:43Speaker 2: after explosive after explosive. But to me, as much as
- 2:46Speaker 2: you know, what he did was incredible.
- 2:48Speaker 3: This was Tua.
- 2:49Speaker 2: This was Tua showing you lightning, quick eyes, release feet,
- 2:53Speaker 2: all that stuff.
- 2:54Speaker 3: I posted plays.
- 2:55Speaker 2: As I was mentioned on getting to on Instagram Buck,
- 2:57Speaker 2: there's unblocked pressures where they don't even didn't blocking Joey Bosa,
- 3:01Speaker 2: Like forget Bosa can't win. Bosa wasn't even getting blocked.
- 3:04Speaker 2: You couldn't get there. The ball's gone. So when they're
- 3:07Speaker 2: operating like that, it was it was Mike McDaniel kind
- 3:11Speaker 2: of feeling himself a little bit with the game plan,
- 3:13Speaker 2: and then Tua got in a rhythm and it was over.
- 3:16Speaker 5: You know, it was really funny to watch this back
- 3:18Speaker 5: because when you look at the Miami Dolphins we've talked
- 3:21Speaker 5: about what they have on the perimeter is basically an
- 3:23Speaker 5: Olympic level four OX one track team, like this is
- 3:27Speaker 5: a sprint fest. And the motion that you allude to
- 3:30Speaker 5: Mike McDaniel putting Tyreek Hill on the run, it's a
- 3:34Speaker 5: different motion for anyone who hasn't had a chance to
- 3:36Speaker 5: watch him. So normally when people motion, they motioned from
- 3:39Speaker 5: one side of the formation across the formation to the
- 3:42Speaker 5: other side. Sometimes your motion from outside in motion in
- 3:46Speaker 5: but what the Dolphins were doing, they had him almost
- 3:49Speaker 5: lined up as a wing back, which you know, I
- 3:51Speaker 5: love based on how I like to run the offense
- 3:53Speaker 5: had him at wingback and they motioned him to the
- 3:56Speaker 5: side that he was on but outside, and then they
- 3:59Speaker 5: had him turn up the field and he's running digs
- 4:02Speaker 5: and outs and everything. And if you can imagine someone
- 4:06Speaker 5: who is already fast, and I think the way that
- 4:09Speaker 5: you said it, it was like Arena League CFO. He
- 4:13Speaker 5: has a running start, he turns up the field, you
- 4:17Speaker 5: can't put your hands on him, and he's rolling across
- 4:21Speaker 5: the field. It was great design. And you know, like
- 4:26Speaker 5: we talked about coaching in the National Football League, it's
- 4:29Speaker 5: about players, but the best coaches make the game very
- 4:33Speaker 5: easy for their players, and that's what Mike McDaniel did
- 4:35Speaker 5: for the quarterback but also for Tyreek Hill.
- 4:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I would not want to be in that situation trying.
- 4:41Speaker 1: To move backwards as Tyreek Hill is essentially at full
- 4:45Speaker 1: speed at the moment he crosses the line of scrimmage,
- 4:49Speaker 1: Like what do you do? Like I'd almost send the
- 4:51Speaker 1: I'd almost send like the defensive back up to the
- 4:54Speaker 1: line of scrimmage and then just let him like turn
- 4:56Speaker 1: and sprint like he's running like a gasser, Like get
- 4:59Speaker 1: to one line and start going just so you can
- 5:01Speaker 1: you can get up the full speed too, because that's
- 5:03Speaker 1: just uncoverable, and that was that was a lot of
- 5:06Speaker 1: fun to watch. The question that I had DJ that
- 5:08Speaker 1: I was kind of curious about, is what did Vic
- 5:10Speaker 1: Fangio do specifically in your mind to limit justin Herbert's production,
- 5:15Speaker 1: because it's not like there's any shortage of weapons on
- 5:17Speaker 1: that side of the ball in terms of offense.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I'm glad you asked that because I got texts from
- 5:21Speaker 2: some people saying I thought Kellen Moore was gonna unlock
- 5:24Speaker 2: You guys have been telling us that this is gonna
- 5:26Speaker 2: unlock it. I thought it was a masterful job by
- 5:29Speaker 2: Kellen Moore in this game. They scored thirty four points,
- 5:33Speaker 2: They ran for over two hundred yards, They almost had
- 5:35Speaker 2: two hundred yard rushers. Eckler went for a buck seventeen,
- 5:38Speaker 2: Josh Kelly was over ninety yards. Vic Fangio never brought
- 5:41Speaker 2: the safeties down, and his whole thing was I'm not
- 5:44Speaker 2: gonna give up. I'm not gonna give up big plays.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And I'm telling you right, they would gash him eight
- 5:48Speaker 2: eight yards. It'd be second and two. And I go, okay, well,
- 5:52Speaker 2: you're gonna get incredible. You're gonna get a shot played.
- 5:54Speaker 2: They're gonna have to pull it second too, They're gonna
- 5:55Speaker 2: have to pull a safety down. And he's like, you
- 5:57Speaker 2: want to run for another five yards, get a first down,
- 5:59Speaker 2: knock yourself out out And the Chargers moved up and
- 6:01Speaker 2: down the field that way and kell them. Moore, to
- 6:03Speaker 2: his credit, in my opinion, was patient. This is what
- 6:06Speaker 2: he's going to give me, I'm going to take it.
- 6:08Speaker 2: And they ran the ball down their throats. They scored
- 6:11Speaker 2: thirty four points. That was the third highest point total
- 6:13Speaker 2: of the weekend. And you need to win a game
- 6:16Speaker 2: when that happens. And if you think about most defensive
- 6:18Speaker 2: coordinators would be like, man, we gave up thirty over
- 6:20Speaker 2: thirty points. We gave up over two hundred yards rushing
- 6:23Speaker 2: like this is embarrassing. But what Vic did is the
- 6:25Speaker 2: one possession of the game, when the Chargers got the
- 6:27Speaker 2: ball back with a buck forty five they needed to stop.
- 6:30Speaker 3: They got it.
- 6:31Speaker 2: The Chargers got a first down on the first play,
- 6:33Speaker 2: and then that the next play. That first rush, by
- 6:36Speaker 2: the way, they rushed five and then four or five.
- 6:40Speaker 2: The Chargers had a five man protection. They chipped both edges,
- 6:42Speaker 2: so they kind of had seven guys in pass pro
- 6:45Speaker 2: Then Vic said, Okay, we're not going to do that.
- 6:47Speaker 2: So then the next play six man. It was a
- 6:50Speaker 2: six man rush. The Chargers had enough bodies to pick
- 6:53Speaker 2: it up. Herbert didn't see the hot route in the flat.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Herbert gets an intentional grounding, so the pressures rewarded. The
- 6:59Speaker 2: next play, Sealer ends up beating Zion for a sack,
- 7:03Speaker 2: so they and they had a kind of a pressure
- 7:05Speaker 2: look there. Then now you get in a third and forever.
- 7:09Speaker 2: They rush three and try and drop eight, and Herbert
- 7:12Speaker 2: has time. He finds Mike Williams for a nice chunk.
- 7:14Speaker 2: They get a manageable fourth and twelve, and so what
- 7:16Speaker 2: does he do on the last one? He goes back
- 7:18Speaker 2: to that six man pressure. I think it was I
- 7:21Speaker 2: know for sure whose fault it was, but it was
- 7:23Speaker 2: a bust. Joshua Kelly was back there. They should have
- 7:25Speaker 2: had enough bodies. They don't pick it up. They get home,
- 7:28Speaker 2: So Vick kind of got a wait outside of his
- 7:30Speaker 2: normal routine a little bit on the key downs in
- 7:34Speaker 2: the game. At the end of the game, they got
- 7:35Speaker 2: the one stop, but this was about the Chargers defense
- 7:38Speaker 2: having no chance of stopping the Dolphins. Offense. That was
- 7:42Speaker 2: a story of that game. This wasn't a Kellen Moore
- 7:44Speaker 2: or Justin Herbert thing was. This was a Dolphins offense shredding,
- 7:48Speaker 2: and they could have been worse. They fumbled inside the
- 7:51Speaker 2: ten and early in the game, and they had another
- 7:53Speaker 2: possession where they settle for a field goal inside the ten.
- 7:56Speaker 2: So I mean they could easily put a forty burger
- 7:57Speaker 2: up there.
- 8:00Speaker 6: In the single game versus the Chargers in the NFL.
- 8:04Speaker 7: History, Yeah, you know, lat I mean, I think the
- 8:10Speaker 7: last thing, because it's so funny how people have judged
- 8:14Speaker 7: to a tongue of our law throughout this time, Like
- 8:17Speaker 7: DJ like the Dolphins is gonna have to make a
- 8:20Speaker 7: decision on whether to pay him or not, and like if.
- 8:22Speaker 3: He plays like this, you better pay him.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Then you have to pay him, regardless of the injury
- 8:27Speaker 5: history and those things like if this tour, the one
- 8:30Speaker 5: that's the Vegas the casino card dealer, if this one
- 8:34Speaker 5: shows up, They're hard to deal with because the ball
- 8:37Speaker 5: comes out, it comes out on time. He is he's
- 8:39Speaker 5: very aware of where the pressure is coming from, and
- 8:42Speaker 5: it is out. And we can talk about how the
- 8:45Speaker 5: receivers may make the quarterback at that same Tyreek Hill
- 8:48Speaker 5: play with Pat Mahomes, and we gave Pat Mahomes the credit.
- 8:50Speaker 5: And I'm not saying that Tua is in that class,
- 8:52Speaker 5: but at some point we have to give him credit
- 8:55Speaker 5: for when he's played well and they put up the
- 8:57Speaker 5: kind of numbers that they put up when he's in charge.
- 9:00Speaker 2: He does not have a big arm. I mean, you
- 9:01Speaker 2: sit there and you watch it. He does not have
- 9:03Speaker 2: a big arm. But it goes to show you when
- 9:05Speaker 2: you have timing and you have anticipation and you have accuracy,
- 9:09Speaker 2: and he's got weapons. And again, I don't think you
- 9:11Speaker 2: just dropped Tua in any of the thirty two buildings
- 9:14Speaker 2: and you get this. But for what they're doing right now,
- 9:17Speaker 2: I could make a case. I don't know that there's
- 9:19Speaker 2: many quarterbacks you probably count them on one hand. Who
- 9:22Speaker 2: better fit what they're doing and who they're doing it
- 9:24Speaker 2: with in Miami, because I think people will pull out
- 9:27Speaker 2: a throw ret. They'll pull out They'll say, oh, he
- 9:29Speaker 2: missed this deep over to it didn't have enough arm.
- 9:32Speaker 2: That would have been a sixty yard touchdown. I'm like, yep,
- 9:34Speaker 2: you don't get that one. But the other ten throws
- 9:37Speaker 2: that you get where he gets to number three and
- 9:39Speaker 2: number four like this, those other big arm guys don't
- 9:42Speaker 2: give you that. So that adds up to more than
- 9:44Speaker 2: the sixty yards you might have given up because one
- 9:46Speaker 2: ball was underthrown.
- 9:48Speaker 6: Yeah. Actually, I think we'll get to something that's very
- 9:51Speaker 6: similar to that in one of the games that I watched.
- 9:55Speaker 1: For the purposes of this podcast with the Raiders and Broncos.
- 9:58Speaker 6: But I know we got another one to get to it.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Yep, let's go ahead here, Buck, you were at Jaggs Colts.
- 10:03Speaker 2: A lot of different ways you can go with this one.
- 10:05Speaker 2: What was your takeaway?
- 10:06Speaker 5: Okay, So a lot of different ways that we'll go.
- 10:08Speaker 5: So we'll talk about two items, sir. So let's talk
- 10:10Speaker 5: about Calvin Ridley and Trevor Lawrence. That connection right now,
- 10:14Speaker 5: because that was the theme of the off season. The
- 10:17Speaker 5: excitement brimming from Duvall was all about how this offense
- 10:21Speaker 5: could put up thirty points a game. Dj they get
- 10:23Speaker 5: to thirty, and I would say that it was an
- 10:25Speaker 5: ugly thirty point performance in terms of how they got
- 10:28Speaker 5: there sputtering. Gus Bradley really did a good job of
- 10:31Speaker 5: like Vic Vangiol, you're not getting the deep ball, We're
- 10:35Speaker 5: not giving you that or whatever, but what I can
- 10:37Speaker 5: say in watching this team play against Gus Bradley last
- 10:40Speaker 5: year versus playing against him this.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Year, Calvin really made all the difference.
- 10:44Speaker 5: A catches over one hundred yards and when I tell
- 10:46Speaker 5: you it was an easy one hundred yard day for him,
- 10:49Speaker 5: it is.
- 10:50Speaker 6: But college that was in the first quarter too.
- 10:52Speaker 4: I mean right was on fire early, right right out
- 10:55Speaker 4: the gate.
- 10:55Speaker 5: And DJ, We've talked about craftsmen and route runners in
- 10:58Speaker 5: those things, and I believe that Awards have a really
- 11:00Speaker 5: good wide receiver cord without Calvin Ridley.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Christian Kirk is good. They Jones are good.
- 11:05Speaker 5: They good route runners, but it's different what Calvin Ridley's
- 11:08Speaker 5: on the backside of three by one and the cornerback
- 11:11Speaker 5: has to make a decision whether to play all or press.
- 11:14Speaker 5: And what Trevor Lawrence is doing is okay, if you
- 11:16Speaker 5: play off, I'm gonna throw this speed out over and
- 11:20Speaker 5: over and over again. You change, I'm gonna throw the curl.
- 11:24Speaker 4: I mean it.
- 11:25Speaker 5: Literally is as simple as that. And Calvin Ridley speed
- 11:30Speaker 5: his explosiveness and he left meat on the bone because DJ,
- 11:34Speaker 5: he catches a curl, he turns around outside and I
- 11:37Speaker 5: think everyone saw Travis Intiango running to block. Yeah, he
- 11:42Speaker 5: steps out abound because he just kind of lost sight
- 11:44Speaker 5: of where he was. But his zero to sixty with
- 11:48Speaker 5: the ball in his hands unbelievable. And Trevor Lawrence can
- 11:52Speaker 5: settle in because they were rushing, they were trying to
- 11:54Speaker 5: get the big play. But as they settle in, I
- 11:57Speaker 5: can see this team hitting their stride midway to see
- 12:00Speaker 5: Calvin Ridley being in a fifteen hundred yard plus receiver
- 12:04Speaker 5: without doing a whole lot extra than what he did
- 12:06Speaker 5: this first game.
- 12:07Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I was watching.
- 12:09Speaker 1: We kept checking in on that one on Game Day Live.
- 12:11Speaker 1: By the way, if you're not watching Game Day Live,
- 12:13Speaker 1: you're missing out great fun all day long, right live.
- 12:17Speaker 6: You know what I mean. You guys are two alums,
- 12:19Speaker 6: two veterans of Game Day Live. Hey, Brett, I want
- 12:22Speaker 6: to you this year.
- 12:23Speaker 4: I'm coming this year when we have you're coming in.
- 12:26Speaker 6: Oh good, good.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Thursday night game and maybe a Monday night game. I'm coming.
- 12:31Speaker 6: We needed you back, We needed you back.
- 12:33Speaker 1: But the thing that I kept checking in on, you know,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and you know what, this was kind of an interesting
- 12:37Speaker 1: theme to weave throughout the day. There was a couple
- 12:42Speaker 1: of couple of long, like explosive plays. I saw one
- 12:47Speaker 1: of them. I think one of them was that one
- 12:49Speaker 1: of the Calvin Ridley plays tradis Etn is firing up
- 12:52Speaker 1: the sideline like I mean, you know, shout out of
- 12:54Speaker 1: a cannon to go block. We saw Brandon you put
- 12:57Speaker 1: a pancake block on the Christian McCaffrey thing. Other plays
- 13:00Speaker 1: throughout the the thing. But I wanted to hit on
- 13:03Speaker 1: Travis Etn because I feel like we're still scratching the
- 13:06Speaker 1: surface of just how good he is going to be. Eventually,
- 13:09Speaker 1: some of the explosive plays that he makes, man, it's
- 13:12Speaker 1: just going to totally change the dynamic. And then you know, DJ,
- 13:16Speaker 1: your your guy Tank Bigsby still gets into the end zone.
- 13:18Speaker 6: I think I think.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Does provide a nice compliment to the Jaguars run game.
- 13:22Speaker 1: But man, when Travis Etn is rolling, and then you've
- 13:25Speaker 1: got a guy in Calvin Ridley who can you know,
- 13:28Speaker 1: absolutely make it go from anywhere on the field. Now
- 13:30Speaker 1: with Jacksonville, it's just a whole nother dimension that Doug
- 13:34Speaker 1: Peterson and Press Taylor can use. So I came away,
- 13:37Speaker 1: you know, kind of excited about what's still to come
- 13:40Speaker 1: for the Jaguars offense, and then you know, quickly on
- 13:43Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson, I thought he played better and I expected
- 13:46Speaker 1: he would, and I know they put the ball in
- 13:48Speaker 1: his hands a bunch, you know, random again, kind of
- 13:51Speaker 1: like Trevor told him after the game, protect yourself, man.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Look he I know he's a big, strong dude, but
- 13:58Speaker 1: you want to be able to you lies that athleticism
- 14:02Speaker 1: throughout the year and not just in week one.
- 14:05Speaker 6: So I'd love to see.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Him, you know, kind of get out of the bounds,
- 14:08Speaker 1: get down a few more times than he did. But
- 14:10Speaker 1: I think they're still there's still a lot to like
- 14:12Speaker 1: about what we saw in that first week performance from him.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Buck, why don't you follow up on that with Anthony.
- 14:17Speaker 2: I watched Anthony Richardson as well, so I want to Buck,
- 14:19Speaker 2: you were there in the building, so i'd love to
- 14:21Speaker 2: get your takeaway on that.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Okay, So I would say this, he started out like
- 14:25Speaker 5: really well, like he was nervous early, but it didn't
- 14:28Speaker 5: impact his passing numbers.
- 14:30Speaker 4: And then DJ what they.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Decided is I guess Shane Styken decided, hey, let me
- 14:34Speaker 5: pull out some of these Jalen Hurts plays, and so
- 14:37Speaker 5: they started running some of the high school college quarterback
- 14:41Speaker 5: run game, and when they ran him a few times,
- 14:44Speaker 5: he kind of settled in. They ran quarterback powers, quarterback counters,
- 14:48Speaker 5: little stuff like that. They kind of get him into
- 14:50Speaker 5: a rhythm. But then I can see why there's some
- 14:53Speaker 5: excitement about him up in Indy. The Jaguars bring up
- 14:56Speaker 5: pressure at him. I mean they hit him right in
- 14:58Speaker 5: the nose and he throws it's a dart on a
- 15:01Speaker 5: slant and I can't remember it might have gone to
- 15:02Speaker 5: Josh Downs.
- 15:03Speaker 4: I mean, the ball is out on time, he sees it.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Fag and so as long as they were able to
- 15:10Speaker 5: kind of dictate the terms, he was good. But as
- 15:13Speaker 5: soon as Jacksonville went up at the end and it
- 15:16Speaker 5: became a guy to have it obvious passing situation, more
- 15:20Speaker 5: drop back than play action, that's not necessarily where he
- 15:23Speaker 5: was at as strong his best. And so as they're
- 15:27Speaker 5: looking to build upon this offense, it asked me one
- 15:31Speaker 5: or two things. They either have to do the Lamar
- 15:33Speaker 5: Jackson thing in the previous iteration of the Baltimore Ravens offense,
- 15:37Speaker 5: where they play from ahead, they run the ball, they
- 15:39Speaker 5: stay committed to running the ball regardless of the score
- 15:42Speaker 5: and allow him to work into it, or he is
- 15:45Speaker 5: going to have to continue to develop as a passer
- 15:47Speaker 5: to allow them to have to hold the entire playbook
- 15:50Speaker 5: to be able to utilize with the weapons that they have.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's all great. On what you brought
- 15:55Speaker 2: up there, Buck. To me, the best thing about it,
- 15:58Speaker 2: I think I was most impressed with a lot of
- 16:00Speaker 2: times with young quarterbacks, rookie quarterbacks, especially, the middle of
- 16:04Speaker 2: the field is the freeway. There's traffic out there. A
- 16:07Speaker 2: lot of young guys don't even want to mess with it.
- 16:09Speaker 2: They want to just stay outside the numbers, work on
- 16:11Speaker 2: the perimeter. They don't trust all the moving parts in there. Man,
- 16:14Speaker 2: he had four first downs on steam routes, slant scenes
- 16:17Speaker 2: working in the middle of the field, where I was like, Okay,
- 16:19Speaker 2: he must be seeing things okay because he's comfortable working
- 16:22Speaker 2: in the middle of the field, which that's an encouraging sign.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Now he's still and we'll get to Stroud in a
- 16:27Speaker 2: minute with the next game. But whereas I think Stroud
- 16:30Speaker 2: needs to speed up, I think with Richardson there's times
- 16:33Speaker 2: where he's just got to slow down, and I think
- 16:35Speaker 2: he gets a little too ahead of himself. I think
- 16:37Speaker 2: that impacts his accuracy. He doesn't get settled. When he
- 16:39Speaker 2: gets settled in his feet in the ground, he can
- 16:41Speaker 2: he can throw it. But there's a handful of throws
- 16:42Speaker 2: buck that where somebody throws that.
- 16:44Speaker 3: You saw.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Shor hot saled those things.
- 16:49Speaker 5: But I'm telling you, man, this is literally like Shane
- 16:52Speaker 5: Styke and taking a ball to clay and trying to
- 16:54Speaker 5: create a quarterback. He has all these physical gifts that
- 16:57Speaker 5: you love, big time arm talent, great athlete, supersize. I
- 17:01Speaker 5: don't think he's the runner that people make him out
- 17:04Speaker 5: to be in terms of like the Cam Newton Josh Allen.
- 17:07Speaker 4: Yeah, he can run, but I don't think he loves.
- 17:10Speaker 2: He doesn't and he doesn't have He didn't have a
- 17:12Speaker 2: lot of wiggle like you know, you know he's Josh Allen.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Josh Allen is elusive as a big athlete. He Richardson
- 17:19Speaker 2: just big and strong and fast, but he's not a
- 17:21Speaker 2: He's not a super instinctive runner out of space.
- 17:24Speaker 4: He doesn't have that.
- 17:25Speaker 5: So they can run him, but I don't know if
- 17:28Speaker 5: he's the runner. When people were making the comparison between
- 17:30Speaker 5: him and Cam Newton and Josh he's a different style.
- 17:33Speaker 5: He's just a big guy that can run. It's not
- 17:35Speaker 5: like he's like, hey, we're in the five yard line.
- 17:38Speaker 5: It's Anthony Richardson. I'm going to school. He did, but
- 17:41Speaker 5: it's not like he I don't think he loves that.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Part of m That's interesting, man. That's uh. Well again,
- 17:47Speaker 2: we'll be keep an eye on him throughout the whole season,
- 17:49Speaker 2: sore more on him. We'll see how he continued to improve.
- 17:51Speaker 2: But I thought overall, good start there for Anthony Richardson,
- 17:54Speaker 2: although they came up a little short against the Jags.
- 17:56Speaker 2: All right, let's do let's do one more than we'll
- 17:58Speaker 2: take a break break here, reht, Why don't you get
- 18:00Speaker 2: us to your first one, which you had what Ravens Texans?
- 18:04Speaker 6: Yeah, Ravens Texans in Baltimore.
- 18:06Speaker 1: You know, you think about the graveyard of quarterbacks that
- 18:09Speaker 1: have kind of come up against the Ravens early in
- 18:11Speaker 1: their careers.
- 18:12Speaker 6: I mean, you know, my.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Buddy Eli what had a zero point zero passer rating
- 18:17Speaker 1: in his first starting against the Ravens. Like it's a
- 18:20Speaker 1: tough deal and it's still a really good defense there.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Obviously the names have changed and some of the personnel change.
- 18:25Speaker 1: And coaching staff. But man, and one thing is is
- 18:27Speaker 1: for sure, they're still going to get after you, especially
- 18:29Speaker 1: if your young quarterback. And I think you saw that.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I think you saw it early, especially you know, whether
- 18:35Speaker 1: it was a dafeoway or whether it was coming from
- 18:37Speaker 1: the second level.
- 18:38Speaker 6: By the way, Patrick Queen and Roquan Smith look like
- 18:41Speaker 6: they are on a real different level.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Whole different level in this game and in this season.
- 18:46Speaker 1: So that's gonna be a fun pairing, you know, to
- 18:48Speaker 1: watch as they feed off each other. They're both you know,
- 18:50Speaker 1: in run support and you know, getting downhill from the
- 18:54Speaker 1: second level rushing the passers.
- 18:56Speaker 6: So let me talk a little bit though about.
- 18:58Speaker 1: The second overall pick, c J.
- 19:02Speaker 6: Stroud.
- 19:03Speaker 1: You know, the first the first pass attempt, obviously it's
- 19:06Speaker 1: knocked down, right, I think it was I think it
- 19:09Speaker 1: was Patrick Queen or Rokwan that knocked it down, and
- 19:11Speaker 1: then he CJ runs up there and actually catches it.
- 19:14Speaker 1: So he caught his first career pass attempt, which only
- 19:18Speaker 1: Brett Favre as he is only quarterback we found was
- 19:21Speaker 1: able to do that. Yeah, but here's the thing that
- 19:24Speaker 1: I came away encourage it. By the way, he was
- 19:26Speaker 1: under pressure, way too much. They got some they got
- 19:28Speaker 1: to figure out some things offensive line lies and you know,
- 19:30Speaker 1: hopefully you get Titus Howard back healthy, get a few
- 19:32Speaker 1: of those guys back and ready to go, and they'll
- 19:34Speaker 1: figure that out. But the thing that I came away
- 19:36Speaker 1: impressed with was c J. Stroud's poison third down. It
- 19:39Speaker 1: faced a lot of them in this game.
- 19:42Speaker 6: Guys.
- 19:42Speaker 1: He went thirteen and sixteen for one hundred and twenty
- 19:45Speaker 1: four yards on third down. Now, they didn't convert every
- 19:49Speaker 1: single one of those because they were in some third
- 19:51Speaker 1: and really unfortunate situations. Third sixteen, third and twenty one.
- 19:55Speaker 1: You know, one of them was a clock play at
- 19:57Speaker 1: the end of the half that goes down as an incompletion.
- 20:00Speaker 1: But the way that he was able to take completions
- 20:02Speaker 1: I saw, you know, one of them in particular, second quarters,
- 20:04Speaker 1: a third and two. He's got Bobby Trees on essentially
- 20:07Speaker 1: an inside slant where he's kind of he's trying to
- 20:09Speaker 1: peel in between, you know, a high low defender and CJ.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Layers It perfectly also keeps it underneath like closing safety
- 20:17Speaker 1: from up top like man. You know, some of that
- 20:20Speaker 1: accuracy and that ability to just kind of thread the Needle.
- 20:24Speaker 6: You saw it.
- 20:25Speaker 1: You saw it at times against Baltimore. Now he didn't
- 20:27Speaker 1: see it enough, I think, But man, to have that
- 20:30Speaker 1: kind of poise against that team on the road in
- 20:33Speaker 1: third down situations, I think gives you a little encouragement
- 20:38Speaker 1: moving forward from this this young player. So I liked
- 20:41Speaker 1: a lot of what I saw from CJ. Stroud And
- 20:42Speaker 1: then on the flip side, Zay Flowers.
- 20:44Speaker 6: Man, that dude is going to be so much fun
- 20:46Speaker 6: to watch.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I mean, I left training camp, you know, I was there.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I was there with Baldy and Pep Hamilton and we
- 20:52Speaker 1: kind of all left that training camp practice being like
- 20:55Speaker 1: Odell is great, you know, Rashad Bateman maybe, but this
- 20:59Speaker 1: offense is going to be more kangriss A Flowers.
- 21:01Speaker 6: That's how good they are, and that's how good Theay is.
- 21:03Speaker 6: So those are the two things that kind of spit
- 21:05Speaker 6: out to me from that game.
- 21:06Speaker 2: DJ Yeah, and Buck, I'll get it to you quickly
- 21:10Speaker 2: on this one. Stroud to me when I watched it,
- 21:12Speaker 2: mentioned it a little bit earlier. Just speed up a
- 21:14Speaker 2: tick some of those sacks, just sometimes the balls a
- 21:17Speaker 2: little bit late. I didn't think that he looked overwhelmed
- 21:20Speaker 2: by any stretch, I think that's it. And I'll say
- 21:22Speaker 2: an easy fix, but it's you know, you played at
- 21:23Speaker 2: Ohio State. You're playing with better players than everybody else.
- 21:26Speaker 2: There's an adjustment when you're playing against a team that
- 21:28Speaker 2: has better dudes than you do. And that's what he's
- 21:30Speaker 2: going to see probably a lot this year. But he
- 21:32Speaker 2: got heated up. Just need to speed it up a
- 21:33Speaker 2: little bit. And then if I go back in the
- 21:35Speaker 2: evaluation process, when I watched him over the summer before
- 21:38Speaker 2: his last year at Ohio State, one of the questions
- 21:40Speaker 2: I had was I was like, man, I don't know
- 21:42Speaker 2: how much like pure top end arm strength he has
- 21:45Speaker 2: because I didn't feel like he got into his legs enough,
- 21:48Speaker 2: you know where it's just kind of arm only, And
- 21:50Speaker 2: I thought the ball died a little bit on the perimeter.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Now in this game, again, some of these are still completions.
- 21:55Speaker 2: He's still getting there because you know, he's very accurate.
- 21:58Speaker 2: But I think some of that crept back back in
- 22:00Speaker 2: a little bit where he's got to get into his legs.
- 22:02Speaker 2: He'll be able to drive the ball a little bit more.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Because I thought his arm strength was off a tick
- 22:06Speaker 2: from what we saw last year. At Ohio State.
- 22:09Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a challenging performance for him. He's playing
- 22:12Speaker 5: a really good defense. And in fact, I like to
- 22:14Speaker 5: talk about that defense because you know, the more things change,
- 22:17Speaker 5: the more they stay the same in Baltimore, the more
- 22:19Speaker 5: they talk about being an uptempo, high powered offense, we're
- 22:23Speaker 5: want to unleash Lamar Jackson. At the end of the day,
- 22:26Speaker 5: when the Baltimore Ravens win is because they're able to
- 22:28Speaker 5: control the opponent with their defense. You guys talked about
- 22:32Speaker 5: Patrick Queen and that linebacker corps and what they were
- 22:34Speaker 5: able to do defensively. To me, it's the same old
- 22:37Speaker 5: story with the Baltimore Ravens. I know we want them
- 22:40Speaker 5: to be a certain way because you have an MVP
- 22:43Speaker 5: and Lamar Jackson, but at the end of the day,
- 22:45Speaker 5: their identity is always going to be defense, running game,
- 22:50Speaker 5: finding a way to win in special teams.
- 22:52Speaker 4: That's just kind of who they are, and we can
- 22:54Speaker 4: talk about it. I just can't.
- 22:56Speaker 5: I have to over under on how long before the
- 22:59Speaker 5: Ravens go back to how long do they stick with
- 23:02Speaker 5: the a we throw it all over the yard, this
- 23:04Speaker 5: and that before they finally realize, yeah, we.
- 23:07Speaker 6: Can't do well look with JK. Dobbins out with the achilles, so.
- 23:10Speaker 3: They get into maybe they don't didn't.
- 23:12Speaker 2: You know, they feel like they've had so many running
- 23:15Speaker 2: back injuries over the last couple of years man, and
- 23:17Speaker 2: they just find the next man up and throw them
- 23:19Speaker 2: in there and they kind of get back to who
- 23:21Speaker 2: they are. But last thing on this one to me,
- 23:25Speaker 2: when you look on the defensive side of the ball
- 23:27Speaker 2: for the Texans, we talked about it in the draft
- 23:29Speaker 2: last year. You know, hey, they wanted to get their
- 23:31Speaker 2: offensive pillar. They feel like they've got that with Stroud,
- 23:34Speaker 2: and then they come back up and get Will Anderson
- 23:36Speaker 2: to be that defensive pillar. Will Anderson going through the
- 23:38Speaker 2: PFF stuff had five pressures, which was second most amongst
- 23:41Speaker 2: the rookies. I saw him rush, he had a win inside.
- 23:44Speaker 2: I love them using him in there a little bit.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Let him win, just whip a guard and then off
- 23:49Speaker 2: the edge. You still saw the combination of power and
- 23:52Speaker 2: speed that he has. He's gonna be a really, really
- 23:53Speaker 2: good player. It was a good first game for him,
- 23:55Speaker 2: So I think you can be encouraged if you're the Texans.
- 23:58Speaker 2: You saw some good things on offense with Stroud, saw
- 24:00Speaker 2: some good things on defense with Will Anderson. They need
- 24:03Speaker 2: a lot more of those types of guys. That's gonna
- 24:05Speaker 2: be the challenge for them going forward. But I thought
- 24:07Speaker 2: that was a good sign and a very tough environment
- 24:09Speaker 2: against a good football team in the Ravens. All Right,
- 24:12Speaker 2: we're gona take quick break. We come back. We've got
- 24:13Speaker 2: five more games to get to. We'll pick up the
- 24:15Speaker 2: pace a little bit, and we'll do that right after this.
- 24:21Speaker 2: All Right, guys, let's keep it going here. We've kind
- 24:23Speaker 2: of had the rookie quarterback theme, so let's keep that
- 24:26Speaker 2: rolling as we get to the Carolina Panthers number one
- 24:28Speaker 2: overall pick Bryce Young. They struggled against the Atlanta Falcons.
- 24:33Speaker 2: The Falcons win that one twenty four to ten. Going
- 24:36Speaker 2: back through and looking at it and looking at Bryce,
- 24:39Speaker 2: this was my takeaway on it. And Buck, I'll jump
- 24:41Speaker 2: over to you on this one after this. But the
- 24:44Speaker 2: concerns we had going into this were more with what's
- 24:48Speaker 2: around Bryce than Bryce, and I thought that showed itself
- 24:51Speaker 2: a little bit in this game. I think you box
- 24:52Speaker 2: score scout and you'll say, ah, the numbers don't look good.
- 24:54Speaker 2: You have the two picks, you know, is this a
- 24:57Speaker 2: young guy? Who's overwhelmed. I didn't get that sense at all.
- 25:00Speaker 2: I thought early in the game they were able to
- 25:01Speaker 2: get the ball out quick, they hit some quick screens,
- 25:04Speaker 2: they rolled him out. I thought he was seeing the
- 25:06Speaker 2: field well. He did not look overwhelmed at all. What
- 25:09Speaker 2: happened was the Falcons got a beat on this and
- 25:13Speaker 2: they realized they're not threatening us. So the two interceptions
- 25:17Speaker 2: you'll see them. I mean bits, they're just flat. I
- 25:21Speaker 2: mean the safeties are just flat with zero respect for
- 25:23Speaker 2: anybody running by them. And so he's able to drive
- 25:26Speaker 2: on balls and bryce. You know, I thought, okay, man,
- 25:28Speaker 2: he must have really locked on. It wasn't as much
- 25:30Speaker 2: as they locked on. It's just if you don't expand
- 25:33Speaker 2: the defense at all. You're playing half court. We talk
- 25:35Speaker 2: about that all the time, Like you're trying to play
- 25:37Speaker 2: half court basketball. Think about half court. When you play
- 25:39Speaker 2: five on five half court, how crowd it is you're
- 25:41Speaker 2: playing eleven on eleven half court. The first time they
- 25:43Speaker 2: uncorked one down the field was in the fourth quarter
- 25:46Speaker 2: with like twelve minutes to go, So you know that's
- 25:50Speaker 2: going to be a challenge for them. They don't have
- 25:51Speaker 2: home run ability, they don't have guys that can consistently win,
- 25:54Speaker 2: and Buck, I think it was you were saying earlier
- 25:57Speaker 2: with Richardson. When you get a rookie court and the
- 26:00Speaker 2: game gets out away from you and you're in a
- 26:02Speaker 2: pass only mode, you're gonna get one of two things.
- 26:05Speaker 2: And you don't have a great offensive line. They're gonna
- 26:07Speaker 2: peel back their ears and they're going to hit you,
- 26:09Speaker 2: which they were able to do, or they're gonna play coverage.
- 26:11Speaker 2: You've got nobody that can win. So I thought there
- 26:14Speaker 2: were good things from Bryce, but I'm telling you the
- 26:16Speaker 2: environment what he's got to work with, and it's not the.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Coaching staff's fault. They don't have the guys right now.
- 26:21Speaker 4: No, they don't have the guys right now.
- 26:23Speaker 5: And you know, I mean I understood why they did
- 26:26Speaker 5: it because they traded their number one receiver to have
- 26:29Speaker 5: the opportunity to get them, but they didn't adequately replace it.
- 26:32Speaker 5: You know, you bring in Adam Thielen, who at this
- 26:34Speaker 5: day of his career two three type receiver. You bring
- 26:37Speaker 5: in Jonathan Mingo, but he's not ready to be the
- 26:39Speaker 5: number one, and so you have a quarterback who doesn't
- 26:43Speaker 5: have that trusted sidekick. And we know we young quarterbacks,
- 26:47Speaker 5: is more important to have that veteran receiver that he
- 26:49Speaker 5: can grow with, that he can depend on, and they
- 26:51Speaker 5: don't have that in Carolina, and the Falcons did a
- 26:54Speaker 5: really good job of making them play their style of game.
- 26:58Speaker 5: They made him play the way that they wanted play.
- 27:00Speaker 5: They didn't give up the big play. They played downhill
- 27:03Speaker 5: with their safety's coming down here coming out to shoes
- 27:06Speaker 5: because they weren't tested until they figured out a way
- 27:08Speaker 5: to create a vertical element that makes people back off.
- 27:11Speaker 5: He's gonna get a lot of half court basketball at
- 27:13Speaker 5: the YMCA.
- 27:17Speaker 6: Well.
- 27:18Speaker 1: On the flip side of things, for Arthur Smith's offense,
- 27:23Speaker 1: the Tyler alsire Jeon Robinson situation is very impressive and
- 27:28Speaker 1: encouraging moving forward. Not as much if you're a Kyle
- 27:30Speaker 1: Pitts Drake London fan, but Drake, I don't did Drake
- 27:34Speaker 1: even get yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Zero zero catch? Yeh?
- 27:36Speaker 2: As someone who may or may not have started him
- 27:38Speaker 2: in a fantasy game, I can tell you he got
- 27:39Speaker 2: zero zero.
- 27:41Speaker 6: Points for sure. But on the one touchdown that Bijon.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Scored, which was through the air, I mean it was
- 27:47Speaker 1: it was a quick throw, but I think he gave
- 27:50Speaker 1: you and showed you everything that you loved about him
- 27:52Speaker 1: coming out of Texas, right, the quick movement to get
- 27:55Speaker 1: by that first defender, the power and physicality to essentially
- 27:59Speaker 1: split the next to potential tacklers, and then the speed
- 28:03Speaker 1: then to turn it up a gear and get into
- 28:05Speaker 1: the end zone. That was a lot of fun to watch.
- 28:06Speaker 1: And you know, frankly, I was a little bit surprised
- 28:09Speaker 1: at how much we saw Tyler Ral's year. I mean,
- 28:12Speaker 1: he had fifteen carries in this game for seventy five yards.
- 28:14Speaker 1: He was I mean, he was obviously effective, So I
- 28:17Speaker 1: get it why you wanted to get in the rock.
- 28:18Speaker 1: But with Bjeon Robbinson there, I just I thought that
- 28:21Speaker 1: that would be a little bit more inverted in terms
- 28:23Speaker 1: of who was going to get the most touched. They
- 28:25Speaker 1: didn't need it targeted.
- 28:26Speaker 2: They didn't need it. That was my take on that one.
- 28:29Speaker 2: To interrupt you, but my own take on that was like, Hey,
- 28:31Speaker 2: there's gonna be Bijon games. You're gonna play better teams,
- 28:34Speaker 2: and you're gonna you're gonna need Bejon because Bijeon's gonna
- 28:36Speaker 2: turn some of these fives and sevens and tens into forties, fifties,
- 28:39Speaker 2: sixties seventies exactly, so, but they didn't need him. They
- 28:42Speaker 2: didn't need in this game. I mean, they threw the
- 28:43Speaker 2: ball what eighteen times and Tyler Algier can bang away
- 28:47Speaker 2: and they're not going to score on the other side.
- 28:49Speaker 2: So why are we gonna Why are we gonna put
- 28:50Speaker 2: all this extra weight on our rookie running back.
- 28:52Speaker 3: You don't have to.
- 28:53Speaker 6: It's fair.
- 28:56Speaker 4: So good?
- 28:57Speaker 3: What do you think buck right?
- 28:59Speaker 5: No, So when I think about the Falcons offense, and
- 29:04Speaker 5: I was really impressed with one Vjion coming out the gate,
- 29:07Speaker 5: living up to the hyphe in terms of his first touchdown,
- 29:10Speaker 5: he kind of put it all on display right there.
- 29:11Speaker 5: Stop stark quickness first gets into the zone, all of
- 29:14Speaker 5: that other stuff. But Arthur Smith being able to kind
- 29:17Speaker 5: of pick and choose how he wants to attack the
- 29:20Speaker 5: defense with the weapons that they've had. We've talked about
- 29:22Speaker 5: the positionless ball and how they kind of have the
- 29:25Speaker 5: ability to mix and match and move people around. You
- 29:28Speaker 5: can see there's so much left to explore when it
- 29:32Speaker 5: comes to the personnel. A lot of it though, will
- 29:34Speaker 5: hand you on how good is Desmond Ridder, How good
- 29:37Speaker 5: is Desmond Riddle when he's out of his comfort zone
- 29:40Speaker 5: and the game is not where they're ahead and they're
- 29:43Speaker 5: kind of playing with house money. How is he when
- 29:45Speaker 5: the game is tight and they need him to make plays.
- 29:48Speaker 5: I think he can be an excellent game manager, but
- 29:51Speaker 5: their success will be determined on how much of a
- 29:53Speaker 5: playmaker he can be when they need him to make
- 29:56Speaker 5: those plays when everyone knows it.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely didn't need it in that game. They just
- 30:00Speaker 2: their defense kind of controlled the game, all right, But
- 30:03Speaker 2: keep us rolling here this one. It sounds weird to
- 30:06Speaker 2: say a team that was in the NFC Championship was
- 30:08Speaker 2: the surprise of the weekend.
- 30:09Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 30:09Speaker 2: I guess I'm not surprised they won. I could definitely
- 30:11Speaker 2: see the forty nine ers winning, but they went into
- 30:14Speaker 2: Pittsburgh and just beat the stuffing out of the Steelers.
- 30:17Speaker 5: So let me set the stage by I made a
- 30:20Speaker 5: visit to San Francisco in the middle of training camp
- 30:23Speaker 5: for ITC Live. And when you go out there and DJ,
- 30:27Speaker 5: you can't help it, like the scout and you always
- 30:28Speaker 5: stays around. So you look around and you just look
- 30:30Speaker 5: at the body types and you're like, man, these dudes
- 30:32Speaker 5: like they're just different. They're big there, they're strong, they're fast.
- 30:37Speaker 5: You watched them practice and then there's a it's almost
- 30:41Speaker 5: like going to an Alabama Georgia practice. Right, they don't
- 30:44Speaker 5: have on paths, but the physicality kind of makes you
- 30:47Speaker 5: WinCE a little bit, like, hey, can we go? Can
- 30:52Speaker 5: can we be at that pace that tempo in a
- 30:55Speaker 5: non paddic practice. The Pittsburgh still has did all the
- 30:59Speaker 5: stuff in the preseason with an eye towards making and
- 31:02Speaker 5: having an impressive debut against one of the more physical
- 31:05Speaker 5: teams in football, the Niners, and to hear Mike Thomland
- 31:08Speaker 5: after the game say, we know that this is a
- 31:12Speaker 5: team that plays to their brand. They play to their identity,
- 31:15Speaker 5: and we have to keep them off their brand. And
- 31:18Speaker 5: they beat us doing exactly what they want to do.
- 31:21Speaker 5: And what the Niners always want to do is they
- 31:24Speaker 5: want to hit you, in them out for the running game.
- 31:25Speaker 5: They want to dominate, control the trenches, they want to
- 31:28Speaker 5: unleash their pass rushers up front, and at the end
- 31:31Speaker 5: of the day, their goal is to beat you up
- 31:33Speaker 5: over four quarters. And they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers up.
- 31:36Speaker 5: And that is hard for Stillness to acknowledge because they've
- 31:39Speaker 5: always been to bully on the block they got bullied
- 31:42Speaker 5: by the Niners, and the stats to say mcaffe one
- 31:45Speaker 5: hundred fifty yards, rock praide being efficient all that. At
- 31:48Speaker 5: the end of the day, this was a heavyweight fight
- 31:52Speaker 5: and they toured with the Pittsburgh Steels because they beat
- 31:54Speaker 5: them up.
- 31:56Speaker 1: What'd you see, Red, Yeah, well, you know, I saw
- 32:01Speaker 1: my fantasy pipe dreams all kind of go up and
- 32:05Speaker 1: smoke in week one.
- 32:06Speaker 6: You know, I was, I was.
- 32:07Speaker 1: I was really bullish on George Pickens, and I was
- 32:10Speaker 1: really bullish on the way that.
- 32:11Speaker 3: You know started him as well, started him as well.
- 32:14Speaker 6: She's did you score hitting points?
- 32:16Speaker 2: Yeah, thankful, thankfully. There was some other guys like Davante Smith,
- 32:21Speaker 2: Bjeon got in the end zone. Helped me out a
- 32:23Speaker 2: little bit. But there's a lot riding on Josh Allen
- 32:25Speaker 2: against the Jets. Let's just put it that way. I'd
- 32:27Speaker 2: have to make up for the Drake London George Pickens fiasco.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I look, George still caught five balls, but you know,
- 32:34Speaker 1: thirty six yards. It's just like I expected more of
- 32:37Speaker 1: the explosive plays. I mean, the way that it was,
- 32:40Speaker 1: you know, an absolute explosive fest in the preseason for
- 32:45Speaker 1: Kenny Pickett, in this offense, whether it was Deontay Johnson
- 32:48Speaker 1: or whether it was you know, Pickens or even Nagie Harris,
- 32:51Speaker 1: you know, throughout run or pass, and they couldn't even
- 32:54Speaker 1: get the ball to nag I mean they were they
- 32:56Speaker 1: were down three scores in the blink of an eye
- 32:59Speaker 1: at home, right, And I think, look, for as much
- 33:02Speaker 1: as we thought that the Pittsburgh offensive line was improved,
- 33:06Speaker 1: and look, they are still not enough. Like they still
- 33:09Speaker 1: got a ways to go to compete with the best
- 33:11Speaker 1: of the best in terms of defenses that you're going
- 33:13Speaker 1: to face in this league and that they're going to
- 33:15Speaker 1: face in this division. Like, think about what they're going
- 33:18Speaker 1: to have to go see in Cleveland, you know, in
- 33:20Speaker 1: a couple of weeks here and twice a year, by
- 33:22Speaker 1: the way, twice this year after what they did to
- 33:24Speaker 1: the Cincinnati Bengals this week, and then the Ravens already
- 33:27Speaker 1: talked about them. So like, Pittsburgh's got to figure it
- 33:29Speaker 1: out in a hurry offensively and then defensively. I think
- 33:33Speaker 1: I expected more as well, you know the fact that
- 33:35Speaker 1: they were able to get you I'm looking at explosives
- 33:37Speaker 1: from my Uke and Debo in the pass game and
- 33:39Speaker 1: then obviously McCaffrey in the run game, and then think
- 33:42Speaker 1: about mcaff sometimes those sixty five yard runs can eskew.
- 33:46Speaker 1: You know how well how consistently productive you were in
- 33:49Speaker 1: the run game. You take that run out, he's still
- 33:51Speaker 1: averaging five yards of pop. So like they had it
- 33:55Speaker 1: wherever they wanted here at this point.
- 33:56Speaker 3: Each Yeah, they did.
- 33:58Speaker 2: They dominated the game, and I think brock Perdy just
- 34:01Speaker 2: kind of efficiently, and I think that was Bucky's word.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Just operate the offense. That's what they want from him.
- 34:06Speaker 2: He didn't have to do anything special. Just everything that's there,
- 34:09Speaker 2: everything that's that's there, take it, Take the freebies. This
- 34:11Speaker 2: offense is going to give you layups and freebies.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Take them.
- 34:14Speaker 2: And that's what he did to the tune of two
- 34:16Speaker 2: hundred and twenty yards. And I got in the end
- 34:18Speaker 2: zone a couple of times. So that was this is
- 34:20Speaker 2: the Kyle Shanahan offense. That and a guy that's very
- 34:23Speaker 2: comfortable operating, and they were physical with the line of
- 34:25Speaker 2: scrimmage on both sides. I was disappointed in Kenny Pickett.
- 34:28Speaker 2: I was hoping you're going to see him kind of
- 34:30Speaker 2: really take a next step and let's let's let's reserve judgment.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Let's get into the season a little bit. That's a
- 34:35Speaker 2: really good defense, maybe the best in the league that
- 34:36Speaker 2: he went up against.
- 34:38Speaker 3: But it wasn't great.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Yeah, the first interception, Deontay Johnson fell down, slipped in
- 34:44Speaker 1: Shavari's hoard winner.
- 34:45Speaker 6: But I don't know if it was a well. I
- 34:46Speaker 6: don't think it was the most well placed throw to
- 34:48Speaker 6: be getting well.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Didn't come off his hand well though, like I thought
- 34:51Speaker 2: he threw it well when I was out there at camp,
- 34:53Speaker 2: I just didn't see the same. Yeah, So Buck, Buck,
- 34:56Speaker 2: anything else you want out of that before we move on.
- 34:58Speaker 4: No, I just know this.
- 34:59Speaker 5: I know Rick Peterson did a lot of talking before
- 35:02Speaker 5: the game, and I think, uh, I think guys have
- 35:05Speaker 5: to quit poking the bear when it comes to dealing
- 35:07Speaker 5: with the forty nine ers.
- 35:08Speaker 4: And even Brock Purdy.
- 35:09Speaker 5: Rock Purdy, Uh, when we look at quarterbacks, and it's
- 35:12Speaker 5: funny because het we we had him at the East
- 35:14Speaker 5: West Shrine game, and who knew that coming out of
- 35:16Speaker 5: that game that he would be well. But rock Purdy's
- 35:21Speaker 5: best trade might be his intelligence and his competitiveness. He
- 35:25Speaker 5: has he has that quote unquote dog.
- 35:28Speaker 4: In him where he doesn't back down and he let
- 35:31Speaker 4: out that that that that yall of that scream or whatever.
- 35:35Speaker 5: Uh. After he scores the first touchdown, he throws a
- 35:37Speaker 5: strike and he remembered and he attacked Pat Peter.
- 35:42Speaker 1: He loves he loves Brandon Brandon. Ayuk like loves Brandon.
- 35:47Speaker 1: And remember there's been some up and down with Ayuk
- 35:49Speaker 1: in this offense, but when party's in the game, Ayuk
- 35:52Speaker 1: is going to get his targets.
- 35:53Speaker 5: And and and it's been great for the offense because
- 35:56Speaker 5: they make it forces them to utilize every weapon. But
- 35:59Speaker 5: brock Purdy his competitiveness, he kind of embodies how the
- 36:02Speaker 5: Niners want to go. And the thing that was telling
- 36:05Speaker 5: to me post game, Trent Williams talking about, man, we
- 36:08Speaker 5: love this dude. He has the captain on his chest
- 36:10Speaker 5: because of all that he's endured and the way that
- 36:12Speaker 5: he's come back. Nick Bosa talking about how he's adored
- 36:17Speaker 5: in the locker room and the leadership in those things.
- 36:19Speaker 5: And so to go back to Trey Lance, he didn't
- 36:22Speaker 5: have a chance because the dude was always brought pretty.
- 36:26Speaker 4: He never would have been able to take that away
- 36:28Speaker 4: from him.
- 36:28Speaker 5: Based on how the guys gravitate to Broxford and the
- 36:31Speaker 5: way that they've seen him earn his stripes as the
- 36:34Speaker 5: guy who's a QB wan and they're the captain of
- 36:36Speaker 5: that squad.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it was in Look, that's a complete team
- 36:41Speaker 2: right there, one of the best teams in the NFL,
- 36:43Speaker 2: and they showed it in Week one. Probably the most
- 36:45Speaker 2: impressive win I would say what they did. Although I
- 36:47Speaker 2: guess we can get to what the whatever the Giants
- 36:49Speaker 2: put up against the Cowboys, maybe get the Cowboys some
- 36:52Speaker 2: love here in a minute, But before before we get
- 36:54Speaker 2: to that one down the line, let's let's keep it
- 36:57Speaker 2: going here.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Rett, You've got an AFC West tilt here.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and look, I think there was a lot of
- 37:02Speaker 1: intrigue with this one based on, you know, Sean Payton's
- 37:04Speaker 1: first game with the Denver Broncos, you know home game
- 37:07Speaker 1: there in Denver, first game with Russell Wilson. And look,
- 37:10Speaker 1: I think early on you saw the Russell Wilson Sean,
- 37:14Speaker 1: you saw the Sean Payton impact on him.
- 37:16Speaker 6: I mean, this was a.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Very efficient day for Russell Wilson. The two quarterbacks combined
- 37:21Speaker 1: at less than ten in completions. Like it was, this
- 37:24Speaker 1: was a pretty solid day, albeit not a super explosive
- 37:28Speaker 1: day through the air for both of these teams. And
- 37:31Speaker 1: you know, look, obviously the Broncos are kind of beat
- 37:34Speaker 1: up in the pass game. Greg Dulcic, you know, left
- 37:36Speaker 1: that game, Jerry Judy didn't play in that game, so
- 37:39Speaker 1: they were missing some guys for sure. Maybe that opens
- 37:41Speaker 1: things up a little bit down the line. But they
- 37:43Speaker 1: got a lot out of samaj p Ryan and out
- 37:45Speaker 1: of Javonte Williams both in the run in the pass game.
- 37:48Speaker 1: But the thing that I came back to most notably
- 37:51Speaker 1: was with the Raiders, and it's kind of very similar
- 37:53Speaker 1: to what you were talking about at the top DJ
- 37:55Speaker 1: with Mike McDaniel and to a tune by lower comfortability,
- 38:00Speaker 1: mobility and trust is so big and it felt so
- 38:04Speaker 1: big in this game between Josh McDaniels and Jimmy Garoppolo
- 38:08Speaker 1: and then also between Jacoby Myers and Josh McDaniels, and
- 38:12Speaker 1: then that Triumvirent really showed their chemistry because you know,
- 38:16Speaker 1: Jimmy found Jacoby Myers nine catches almost one hundred yards,
- 38:20Speaker 1: a couple of touchdowns, one to start the scoring, one
- 38:22Speaker 1: for the game winner, eventual game winner. So and for
- 38:26Speaker 1: a second there you're like, holy smokes, where's DeVante Adams. Well,
- 38:29Speaker 1: Davante showed up when they needed it, right, they showed up.
- 38:31Speaker 1: He showed up on that last drive when Jimmy was
- 38:34Speaker 1: able to really start to move this team down the
- 38:37Speaker 1: field with some chunk plays. You had like an eighteen
- 38:39Speaker 1: yard er a DeVante, you had another big one to
- 38:42Speaker 1: Jacoby Myers, that a twenty yard to Austin Hooper which
- 38:44Speaker 1: was his only catch of the game. So they found
- 38:48Speaker 1: a way to create chunk plays when they needed to
- 38:50Speaker 1: down the stretch when they absolutely had to go down
- 38:52Speaker 1: there get that essentially game winning touchdown.
- 38:55Speaker 6: And then the defense came up with some stops.
- 38:57Speaker 3: You know.
- 38:57Speaker 1: The Broncos offense moved the ball, you know, down the
- 39:00Speaker 1: field a couple of different times, and I think there's
- 39:03Speaker 1: still some work to do, particularly offensive line wise for
- 39:07Speaker 1: the Raiders.
- 39:08Speaker 6: You know, we didn't see it. We didn't see a
- 39:09Speaker 6: really productive and efficient run game out of Josh Jacobs,
- 39:13Speaker 6: although Greg Van Rodin I think it was a nice
- 39:16Speaker 6: pickup for that offensive line for the Raiders that he
- 39:18Speaker 6: played well both in pass pro and in the run game.
- 39:22Speaker 1: And then just you know, the one glaring mistake for
- 39:25Speaker 1: Jimmy Garoppolo was, he's just got you know, I don't
- 39:28Speaker 1: know how many years have been in the league. You
- 39:29Speaker 1: cannot you know, six seconds you're down in the red
- 39:33Speaker 1: zone inside the fifteen yard line. You cannot throw that
- 39:37Speaker 1: ball into danger like you've got to be able to
- 39:39Speaker 1: get at least three points out of a drive like that.
- 39:41Speaker 6: Can't throw that interception that deflects off somebody.
- 39:43Speaker 2: And by the way, on the scale of on the
- 39:45Speaker 2: scale of dumb decisions, that is like a three out
- 39:48Speaker 2: of ten compared to J. C. Jackson getting a pass
- 39:51Speaker 2: iner for it with no time on the clock at
- 39:53Speaker 2: the twenty five yard line.
- 39:54Speaker 3: But yeah, that's by the way, on that game.
- 39:59Speaker 2: On that game, real quick, I went back because I
- 40:02Speaker 2: want to see Tyrey Wilson because you know, hey, this
- 40:03Speaker 2: is a top top pick, this is someone who had
- 40:06Speaker 2: all this ability. And there was that debate, remember the
- 40:08Speaker 2: Will Anderson Tyree Wilson, Like what you know, who should
- 40:11Speaker 2: go first?
- 40:11Speaker 3: Here?
- 40:11Speaker 2: Two different styles. I saw some good things for him
- 40:14Speaker 2: in the preseason buck, but in this one it looked
- 40:16Speaker 2: like he was thinking out there. He was playing high,
- 40:18Speaker 2: he wasn't playing fast. He looked a little lethargic, he
- 40:21Speaker 2: almost looked a little heavy too something as you can't
- 40:23Speaker 2: tell from from the tape. But he's got to cut
- 40:26Speaker 2: it loose, like his whole brand is not polish and handtack.
- 40:30Speaker 2: His whole brand is speed and power and violence. And
- 40:32Speaker 2: that didn't really see that from him in week one.
- 40:35Speaker 5: Well, as he told Rett now when he came on
- 40:37Speaker 5: past to the draft, he talked about his whole brand
- 40:39Speaker 5: is basically whooping the opponent.
- 40:41Speaker 3: Like he just talked about that didn't happen in that one.
- 40:43Speaker 4: He talked about what he just put his hands on.
- 40:45Speaker 5: People played violet in those things, and he didn't exhibit
- 40:48Speaker 5: those kinds of things.
- 40:49Speaker 4: I want to go back to Jimmy Garoffolo right quick.
- 40:51Speaker 5: Josh mcganne's talked about how tough, how resilient Jimmy Garoffolo
- 40:55Speaker 5: is and you know, more than any other trait that
- 40:58Speaker 5: he wanted in the quarterback, that's what he want it.
- 41:00Speaker 5: So take it as a shot at Dery Carr. Josh
- 41:03Speaker 5: McDaniels is very comfortable with Jimmy Garoppolo as his quarterback
- 41:06Speaker 5: and maybe that leads to better results for the Raiders
- 41:08Speaker 5: this season.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and the you know, to me with the Broncos.
- 41:13Speaker 2: The best way I could describe it is with Russell
- 41:16Speaker 2: Wilson and Sean Payton.
- 41:17Speaker 3: We've talked.
- 41:18Speaker 2: I think we maybe have referenced this before. But you know,
- 41:20Speaker 2: like that when you're a kid and you go to
- 41:21Speaker 2: a birthday party and do the egg toss and you
- 41:23Speaker 2: start right next to each other. Yep, they didn't get
- 41:26Speaker 2: beyond five feet.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Guys. They I don't know if.
- 41:28Speaker 2: They were scared that egg was gonna break, But like,
- 41:31Speaker 2: we got to expand that a little bit here. Now,
- 41:32Speaker 2: let's let's gotta have a little bit of an element
- 41:34Speaker 2: of that ye in that game.
- 41:36Speaker 5: As an egg toss champion, you gotta give, you gotta toss,
- 41:40Speaker 5: you gotta give catch, ye give give. The kids can't
- 41:43Speaker 5: have those hard hands, Rich can't have your you know,
- 41:45Speaker 5: the palm.
- 41:46Speaker 3: Like you're talking to a holder here.
- 41:48Speaker 6: Do you think he does placeholder here? Guys?
- 41:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I love it all right, I'll roll for this
- 41:59Speaker 2: next one here. Eagles Patriots a game where the Eagles
- 42:01Speaker 2: just kind of jumped on him early. It was sixteen
- 42:03Speaker 2: nothing before you could blink, and then they just kind
- 42:05Speaker 2: of held on for the rest of the game. They
- 42:07Speaker 2: ended up winning twenty five to twenty. There was some
- 42:08Speaker 2: weather there. I was, I'll get you over on this
- 42:12Speaker 2: one bucket. I was talking to read about this offline earlier,
- 42:15Speaker 2: as he was you we're talking about, Okay, what happened?
- 42:17Speaker 2: You know, Jalen Hurts didn't play that great, didn't look
- 42:19Speaker 2: really comfortable. And I said, nobody does a better job
- 42:22Speaker 2: in the history of the NFL of giving you a
- 42:24Speaker 2: muddy picture than Bill Belichick, you know where It's like, Look,
- 42:27Speaker 2: I don't pretend that I'm you know, possess all the
- 42:31Speaker 2: knowledge in the world in terms of coverages. I understand
- 42:33Speaker 2: the basics. I played college football a million years ago.
- 42:35Speaker 2: I've been doing this a long time. I can give
- 42:37Speaker 2: you basics, right. I don't know what techtor're doing. I
- 42:40Speaker 2: can't figure out some of the coverages. I just know
- 42:42Speaker 2: it looks like there's thirteen guys out there at times,
- 42:45Speaker 2: and it's just a it gives you a muddy picture.
- 42:47Speaker 2: So to me, that's you know, that's what he was
- 42:50Speaker 2: dealing with. And they kind of just did what they
- 42:51Speaker 2: had to do to survive. Whereas the Niners went on
- 42:54Speaker 2: the road and it was a dominant performance, the Eagles
- 42:57Speaker 2: just kind of kind of found their way to the
- 42:59Speaker 2: finish line. The one thing I would feel good about
- 43:01Speaker 2: if you're an Eagle fan is that this front Jalen
- 43:04Speaker 2: Carter and the numbers are all different. I was on
- 43:06Speaker 2: PFF this morning. It had nine pressures, and I guess
- 43:09Speaker 2: that number varies anywhere from like six to nine. But
- 43:12Speaker 2: one thing I did get we talked about all the
- 43:13Speaker 2: time on the next Gen stats with the getoff numbers
- 43:15Speaker 2: for a minimum of twenty five rushes, Josh Sweat for
- 43:18Speaker 2: the Eagles was second in the league. Jalen Carter was third,
- 43:22Speaker 2: Hassan Redick was fourth, and then Fletcher Hawks was seventh,
- 43:26Speaker 2: and Milton Williams was eighth. So they had five of
- 43:29Speaker 2: the top eight getoffs in the NFL. With the Philadelphia Eagles,
- 43:33Speaker 2: we talked about the Dolphins having attract team on the outside.
- 43:36Speaker 2: The dang Eagles got a track team up front.
- 43:39Speaker 5: Yeah, coming off the ball as everything they believe in that.
- 43:43Speaker 5: We've talked a bunch of times on here about how
- 43:46Speaker 5: the Eagles believe in the trench's offensive line and defensive line.
- 43:50Speaker 5: When you pour that stat it speaks to just a
- 43:52Speaker 5: quickness with which they want to play at the point
- 43:55Speaker 5: of attack. I want to go back and talk about
- 43:57Speaker 5: Jalen Hurst a little bit. And really it's kind of
- 43:59Speaker 5: a theme that Nick sirr touched on immediately after the game.
- 44:02Speaker 4: I guess going back to last year, quarterbacks.
- 44:05Speaker 5: That don't play a single snap in preseason, I think
- 44:08Speaker 5: their record is seven and thirteen. They have opening game,
- 44:12Speaker 5: and so Sirianni was lamenting his plan in terms of
- 44:16Speaker 5: not getting those guys a handful of snaps to get
- 44:18Speaker 5: a rhythm in those things. Indeed, when you think about
- 44:22Speaker 5: some of the slow starts, some of the sputtering that
- 44:24Speaker 5: we saw Joe Burrow didn't play in the preseason, some
- 44:26Speaker 5: of that. As much as we talk about preserving guys
- 44:30Speaker 5: and making sure they're healthy, there is a rhythm to
- 44:33Speaker 5: playing good offensive ball and you can't simulate it in
- 44:36Speaker 5: joint practices and in you know, your normal practice sessions.
- 44:41Speaker 5: Maybe just maybe Nick Sirianni and some of these other
- 44:44Speaker 5: guys are saying, I may need to kind of run
- 44:47Speaker 5: the risk of getting my guys out there so we
- 44:49Speaker 5: can hit the ground running when the season opens up.
- 44:52Speaker 6: Hey, ded were you surprised we didn't see more DeAndre
- 44:55Speaker 6: Swift in this game for the Eagles?
- 44:56Speaker 3: Nothing?
- 44:57Speaker 2: It was Kenneth Gainwell, like I didn't see that coming.
- 45:00Speaker 2: But you know, the one thing I was thinking of
- 45:01Speaker 2: watching it is like if teams are going to try
- 45:03Speaker 2: and play them like that, and there was I think
- 45:05Speaker 2: Ian had the report. I know the Eagles traditionally have
- 45:08Speaker 2: not invested in the running back position. They've been able
- 45:11Speaker 2: to find guys. But if this is the confidence level
- 45:13Speaker 2: of DeAndre Swift that he's not even a part of
- 45:15Speaker 2: their plan, I'm like, you know, hey, if this is
- 45:17Speaker 2: a team that's read they feel like was in the
- 45:18Speaker 2: Super Bowl last year, can win a super Bowl right now,
- 45:21Speaker 2: it's getting to the end with Lane Johnson, with Brandon Graham,
- 45:24Speaker 2: with some of these pieces like Jonathan Taylor, you I mean, Buck,
- 45:29Speaker 2: I mean.
- 45:29Speaker 3: You've we talked about this.
- 45:31Speaker 2: He's not an older back. This you're not trading for
- 45:33Speaker 2: a twenty eight, twenty nine year old back like I know.
- 45:36Speaker 2: And the Eagles have never taked, they don't take them high.
- 45:38Speaker 2: They don't like to pay him. You can find them.
- 45:40Speaker 2: They've traded and they've got Garrett Blunt on the cheap.
- 45:43Speaker 2: They got DeAndre Swift on the cheap. But if this
- 45:45Speaker 2: is what they think of DeAndre Swift and how little
- 45:47Speaker 2: they're going to use them then, and teams are going
- 45:48Speaker 2: to start playing them a little bit different. Then maybe
- 45:51Speaker 2: that is something at least you have that conversation, because
- 45:53Speaker 2: this is go time. I mean, this is not hey,
- 45:55Speaker 2: three four years down the line, we'll see.
- 45:57Speaker 4: No.
- 45:57Speaker 3: You you are ready to win a Super Bowl year.
- 46:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:00Speaker 2: And your biggest rival, the team that you're on a
- 46:03Speaker 2: collision course with, they paid the price to go get
- 46:06Speaker 2: Christian McCaffrey, and we saw what he looked like in
- 46:08Speaker 2: Week one.
- 46:10Speaker 5: They have to do it. It has to be a
- 46:12Speaker 5: thing where they need to upgrade that part of it.
- 46:15Speaker 5: This is a team that is ready to go, but
- 46:17Speaker 5: they need to be able to physically kind of control
- 46:19Speaker 5: it with the running game, and a better back will
- 46:21Speaker 5: make life easier for Jalen Hurts.
- 46:23Speaker 2: Yeah, and then for the Patriots anything on the paper side.
- 46:27Speaker 6: Oh, I was just gonna say that throwing the ball
- 46:29Speaker 6: fifty four times surprise me, you know, And I wonder
- 46:32Speaker 6: if that's you know, obviously they got down early pretty
- 46:35Speaker 6: quick with the Eagles jumping on him, and I guess
- 46:38Speaker 6: maybe that shouldn't surprise us that much.
- 46:41Speaker 1: When you think about what Bill did, Bill O'Brien did
- 46:44Speaker 1: the last time he was there. I mean, you know,
- 46:46Speaker 1: he was part of the architect of that, you know,
- 46:48Speaker 1: of those explosive you know, late two thousands teams for
- 46:53Speaker 1: the Patriots in early twenty ten and eleven's, you know,
- 46:57Speaker 1: and it was you know, Josh McDaniels when he came back,
- 47:00Speaker 1: is when they really kind of started grinding it out
- 47:02Speaker 1: and grinding, grind and pounds.
- 47:04Speaker 6: So maybe it's not maybe I.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Shouldn't be surprised, but I was a little little cough
- 47:08Speaker 1: guard to see the fifty four different attempts for mac Jones.
- 47:11Speaker 1: But nice to see him get into the end zone
- 47:12Speaker 1: a couple of times and kind of stay in this
- 47:14Speaker 1: game as the it could have gotten out of hand.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't get a chance to see as much
- 47:18Speaker 2: as the tape on their offense in that one. So
- 47:21Speaker 2: something maybe we'll touch on later in the week to
- 47:23Speaker 2: add on to what Brette was saying there. It just
- 47:24Speaker 2: nobody that really scares you when you look at it,
- 47:26Speaker 2: for sure, all right, last one here the tenth the
- 47:29Speaker 2: eighth game we're getting to here, Buck, And that was
- 47:31Speaker 2: are we calling this a game? Are we referencing this
- 47:33Speaker 2: as a game on Sunday night?
- 47:34Speaker 6: In the world.
- 47:36Speaker 4: It was America's team showcase.
- 47:39Speaker 5: It was the Dallas Cowboy being put on full display
- 47:42Speaker 5: taking on a bitter rival in the Giants, And a
- 47:46Speaker 5: lot of the conversation in Dallas is always about Mike McCarthy.
- 47:49Speaker 4: Dak Press got this offense.
- 47:51Speaker 5: But Michael Parsons is trying to bring back the doomsday
- 47:54Speaker 5: defense that the Coboys were known for during the seventies,
- 47:57Speaker 5: and when you watched them dominate the New York Football Giants,
- 48:01Speaker 5: maybe he has a point that we should pay more
- 48:03Speaker 5: attention to him there. This defense has seven sacks, had
- 48:07Speaker 5: two interceptions, had a fumble, they had a special teams
- 48:10Speaker 5: field goal block that they returned for a touchdown, which
- 48:12Speaker 5: is also a defensive play, and they made life absolutely
- 48:16Speaker 5: miserable for Daniel Jones and company. They just dominated the game.
- 48:21Speaker 5: We've seen the Cowboys play great defense. I don't know
- 48:24Speaker 5: if we ever thought of them as a dominant defense.
- 48:27Speaker 5: We thought of them as more of an opportunistic, splash play,
- 48:31Speaker 5: big play defense. But if they play defense like this, man,
- 48:34Speaker 5: it's gonna be hard to deal with them. And I
- 48:36Speaker 5: know the overreaction after the first game is my goodness,
- 48:40Speaker 5: But Michael Parsons.
- 48:41Speaker 4: My goodness.
- 48:43Speaker 2: By the way, I don't I don't know where are
- 48:46Speaker 2: you where you keeping that box? By the way, that
- 48:47Speaker 2: box we have the nfcast Champ Giants T shirts that
- 48:50Speaker 2: you order.
- 48:53Speaker 3: Tucked away in.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Your closet there now where we got.
- 49:00Speaker 6: I opened it a little too early.
- 49:01Speaker 2: I guess I'll tell you what. Good it's good news
- 49:03Speaker 2: for those kids in that other country. Those things get shipped,
- 49:06Speaker 2: you know.
- 49:08Speaker 6: Shoot, man, they has a work to do.
- 49:11Speaker 4: You know.
- 49:11Speaker 1: Look, I think the first drive, you know, from the
- 49:14Speaker 1: Giants offense, you move the ball a little bit and
- 49:16Speaker 1: then they get in field goal range and like holy smokes,
- 49:19Speaker 1: the wheels just I don't just kind of casually come off.
- 49:22Speaker 1: They're like sloating off the axles. After that block field
- 49:25Speaker 1: goal from jan Ye Thomas, another Shrine bowler that we
- 49:28Speaker 1: saw a couple of years agoing to Georgia Day.
- 49:31Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean it it just.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Is that bad. I didn't get a chance to see
- 49:37Speaker 2: this one. I want to say, this wasn't what.
- 49:38Speaker 6: We saw this preseason. It was not. I mean, you know,
- 49:42Speaker 6: Andrew Thomas.
- 49:43Speaker 1: I even thought, you know, like last year it'd start
- 49:45Speaker 1: to show himself as one of the better tackles in
- 49:47Speaker 1: the league. And then you know, everything that I had
- 49:50Speaker 1: heard out of Giants cam is that Evan Neil was
- 49:52Speaker 1: much improved.
- 49:53Speaker 6: I mean, look, they struggled. They struggled.
- 49:56Speaker 3: Well, let me let me let let me ask you this.
- 49:57Speaker 2: Let me let me interrupt you and ask you this,
- 49:59Speaker 2: because again it's this is why it's kind of fun
- 50:01Speaker 2: when you guys have seen it, I haven't seen it.
- 50:03Speaker 2: So when I see the numbers and Buck talked about
- 50:05Speaker 2: the dominance, the theory that comes to my mind is, well,
- 50:09Speaker 2: the Giants spent all off season trying to get speed
- 50:11Speaker 2: because they needed more explosive plays. So still, if you
- 50:14Speaker 2: want to push the ball down the field and be
- 50:16Speaker 2: more explosive, you're gonna have to hold the ball a
- 50:17Speaker 2: little bit. So maybe last year the lack of explosive players,
- 50:20Speaker 2: they knew we can't really do that, so Daniel Jones
- 50:23Speaker 2: has to operate quick, get the ball out.
- 50:25Speaker 3: And then maybe we over.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Exaggerated how great this Giant's offensive line was, Like that's
- 50:29Speaker 2: the that and I didn't see it.
- 50:30Speaker 3: That's why I'm asking you what did it look like?
- 50:34Speaker 6: Yeah, Bucky, I don't know if you if you had
- 50:36Speaker 6: a thought on that but I would say that I'm
- 50:37Speaker 6: not in the I'm not in the camp that they
- 50:39Speaker 6: are a great offensive line. Yet I think they are.
- 50:42Speaker 6: They I thought they.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Were going to be clearly than they were a year ago. Yeah, clearly,
- 50:47Speaker 1: but I just mean coming into the season. And look,
- 50:51Speaker 1: I still think that they have an opportunity to be better.
- 50:54Speaker 1: And I don't know how much can you really draw
- 50:57Speaker 1: from a game in which, you know, the thing is
- 51:00Speaker 1: snowballs so badly, where you're down three scorers fifteen minutes
- 51:04Speaker 1: into this game and well that's not a death mel
- 51:07Speaker 1: but like the game plan is changing, like everything that
- 51:09Speaker 1: you expected to do in this game is now changing.
- 51:12Speaker 1: And look, if we canet hit in the mouth, you
- 51:13Speaker 1: want to be able to respond. But man, everything was
- 51:16Speaker 1: going wrong and it was just like holy smokes, like
- 51:18Speaker 1: what do we you know? And then you know, Daniel
- 51:21Speaker 1: Jones is throwing balls out there that he shouldn't be throwing,
- 51:23Speaker 1: you know, like again he's looking up at the scoreboard
- 51:25Speaker 1: and seeing like, wait, we got to find a way
- 51:27Speaker 1: to make some plays like let me, let's do let
- 51:29Speaker 1: me do whatever I can here.
- 51:30Speaker 6: And it just it got absolutely out of control.
- 51:32Speaker 1: I don't think that this is the Giants, you know,
- 51:35Speaker 1: reverting back to a six and eleven football team year.
- 51:38Speaker 6: I think they're still going to say something about this season.
- 51:41Speaker 5: I mean, there still plenty of time to rectified. The
- 51:44Speaker 5: great thing about the National Football League and the first
- 51:48Speaker 5: couple of weeks you're still trying to sort out who
- 51:50Speaker 5: you are. You don't settle into week four, five, six
- 51:54Speaker 5: and go on. And so as bad as it looks
- 51:56Speaker 5: for the New York Jaints today, they win next week,
- 51:59Speaker 5: we're right back to talk about what it could be
- 52:01Speaker 5: if Dave All has to kind of this might be
- 52:03Speaker 5: a buried to ball game.
- 52:06Speaker 4: In college, we.
- 52:08Speaker 5: Got who by Maryland one time and coach because brown ball,
- 52:13Speaker 5: he brought the ball in and we put it in
- 52:15Speaker 5: a little casket. We dug a little grave somewhere in
- 52:19Speaker 5: the far corner of the practice field and we just
- 52:21Speaker 5: put the game ball in there and say, guys, we
- 52:23Speaker 5: just got to move on to the next one.
- 52:24Speaker 4: That might be that kind of game for the Giants.
- 52:27Speaker 5: Somewhere at their practice facility, maybe there's a little plot
- 52:31Speaker 5: of little plot of land where they can just drop
- 52:33Speaker 5: the ball and go on to the next one, because
- 52:35Speaker 5: there's nothing you can do to bring this one back.
- 52:37Speaker 4: You hope to learn from it so they can be
- 52:38Speaker 4: better next week.
- 52:40Speaker 2: That's interesting, all right, as a bonus, because those are
- 52:42Speaker 2: eight games here. Uh, we got the list of the
- 52:44Speaker 2: games and the chat here of the ones we did
- 52:46Speaker 2: not cover one nugget on one of those other games,
- 52:49Speaker 2: will each give you one nugget one of those other
- 52:51Speaker 2: games again, and people will say, man, you didn't cover
- 52:52Speaker 2: every single game. There's three of us. We're all out
- 52:55Speaker 2: and working on Sunday. So we'd rather go deeper on
- 52:58Speaker 2: eight games and give you a surface level on on
- 53:00Speaker 2: all of them. But we can give you one nug
- 53:02Speaker 2: on on on three more games. Here, go ahead, rhtt
- 53:05Speaker 2: you can pick one.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna actually talk a little bit more
- 53:09Speaker 1: about Bengals Browns. Jim Schwartz's impact is clear. I mean
- 53:13Speaker 1: the way that he is is now toying with offenses
- 53:16Speaker 1: and moving you know, Miles Garrett and Zadarius Smith a round.
- 53:19Speaker 1: You get Miles Garrett rushing over top of the center
- 53:22Speaker 1: like he's actually dancing, Like do you see some of
- 53:24Speaker 1: those like watching some of the day, you see him
- 53:25Speaker 1: actually like kind of just like actually dancing before.
- 53:29Speaker 6: The like.
- 53:32Speaker 1: To toy with guys like I mean that is gonna
- 53:37Speaker 1: be I mean that was the worst game of Joe
- 53:39Speaker 1: Burrow's career, and in a lot of ways it felt
- 53:42Speaker 1: like the Giants game, like based on the way that
- 53:45Speaker 1: a defense dominated and things just kind of never got
- 53:48Speaker 1: rolling for Joe Burrow company. So credit to Jim Schwartz
- 53:52Speaker 1: in the Browns defense.
- 53:53Speaker 3: All right, Buck, you're up.
- 53:55Speaker 4: Great performance.
- 53:56Speaker 5: When did we didn't I see coming the Rams absolutely
- 53:59Speaker 5: putting the SmackDown on the Seattle Seahawks. I don't know
- 54:03Speaker 5: if you saw the clip that went viral when Gino
- 54:05Speaker 5: Smith is dropping hookah was right, but Gino Smith is
- 54:10Speaker 5: dropping back. Aaron Donald runs the stunning through and Gina's like,
- 54:14Speaker 5: oh my.
- 54:15Speaker 6: God, like because Aaron Donald's coming.
- 54:21Speaker 5: I'll say this, severely underestimated the Rams in terms of
- 54:26Speaker 5: their talent level. Talked on radio this weekend. They only
- 54:30Speaker 5: have two stars. They have Matthew Stafford and Aaron Donald.
- 54:32Speaker 5: Who are they gonna beat with just two stars? And
- 54:34Speaker 5: they go and absolutely obliterate the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle
- 54:39Speaker 5: Yeah bananas.
- 54:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's legit. I would just say quickly on
- 54:44Speaker 2: my last one here, Hey, Jordan Love from the Bill,
- 54:47Speaker 2: let's give him the bill a little love. They cooked
- 54:51Speaker 2: him in the other and they didn't cook him in
- 54:53Speaker 2: the microwave. Gave him the time and uh and missing
- 54:57Speaker 2: some pieces out there. It was very very low and slow. Yes,
- 55:02Speaker 2: but he looked comfortable. He looked very comfortable. And it
- 55:04Speaker 2: was not the early at competitive game. The Bears cannot
- 55:07Speaker 2: push the ball down the field. For all the talk
- 55:10Speaker 2: of look, let's not overreact, I'll give it some more time,
- 55:13Speaker 2: but I don't love this offensive line. They don't have
- 55:15Speaker 2: an aggressive offense, and Justin doesn't really want to push
- 55:18Speaker 2: the ball down the field. Whether or not they can
- 55:20Speaker 2: or he can't, I don't know. But it just didn't happen.
- 55:24Speaker 2: They did not attack at all. It was a very
- 55:26Speaker 2: very passive approach offensively. It was not going to get
- 55:28Speaker 2: it done. So the Packers continue their dominance on that one.
- 55:32Speaker 2: Before we get out of here, Buck, I don't know
- 55:35Speaker 2: if you've seen this yet. Rhett has seen it because
- 55:37Speaker 2: I showed him on Sunday. But so this long backstory
- 55:41Speaker 2: on this thing. We have Sauce Gardner come on. We
- 55:44Speaker 2: have him come on with us at the combine and
- 55:47Speaker 2: he's there with Rich and I and we start talking
- 55:49Speaker 2: to him, he's got one of his real nice pieces
- 55:51Speaker 2: of jewelry on. So we ask him about, like where
- 55:54Speaker 2: do you even get something like that, Like you can't
- 55:56Speaker 2: just go down to the little He's like, oh, I
- 55:57Speaker 2: get Al the Jeweler. Al the Jeweler is my guy.
- 56:00Speaker 2: So he hooks it up. Okay, nice, Al Jeweler taking
- 56:02Speaker 2: care of you. And then Rich said, I probably knew
- 56:04Speaker 2: Al the Jeweler. He's in New Jersey, like I probably
- 56:05Speaker 2: grew up with Al the Jeweler. May I have fun
- 56:07Speaker 2: with it? So then Sauce comes back on us with
- 56:10Speaker 2: us at the draft and uh, in the middle of
- 56:12Speaker 2: that interview, I said to him, Hey, you got Aaron
- 56:15Speaker 2: Rodgers your new team at I guarantee Aaron Rodgers doesn't
- 56:17Speaker 2: have any you know, jewelry. You gotta you gotta get
- 56:19Speaker 2: Al the Jeweler to hook him up. Al hooks him up.
- 56:22Speaker 2: He saw it on Hard Knocks, the number eight pennant
- 56:25Speaker 2: that he got, So Al the Jeweler finds me on Instagram.
- 56:29Speaker 2: So we we connect and had good, good connection there
- 56:33Speaker 2: and we got together and said, okay, let's do a
- 56:35Speaker 2: little something. So maybe the next year at the combine,
- 56:37Speaker 2: we'll have sauce back, well, rich, and I'll be ready
- 56:39Speaker 2: to go. So he got we got rich and nice nice,
- 56:44Speaker 2: nice piece of jewelry. It says rich on it buck.
- 56:47Speaker 2: But then so then this one at which we can.
- 56:51Speaker 7: Oh, yes, wait, work out the jeweler.
- 57:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll get it done, getting it done. So I would,
- 57:04Speaker 2: you know, I don't know, maybe back in high school.
- 57:05Speaker 2: I really it really pops off the black right there.
- 57:08Speaker 3: Though doesn't but it really does.
- 57:11Speaker 4: It is.
- 57:12Speaker 3: No, that's that's that's really gorgeous.
- 57:15Speaker 4: That's really that's really that's really nice DJ.
- 57:17Speaker 5: But I would, I would, I would say, I would
- 57:19Speaker 5: say the next time, the next time that you talk
- 57:22Speaker 5: with el the jeweler, because you're you're a Padres fan
- 57:25Speaker 5: and you know what it should look like as a
- 57:26Speaker 5: baseball guy.
- 57:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like we got to cuban link the
- 57:30Speaker 4: chains out a little, go.
- 57:31Speaker 3: A little thicker, go thicker. Yeah.
- 57:34Speaker 2: I wasn't gonna Yeah I didn't, I didn't really, you know,
- 57:39Speaker 2: just a little, a little and then it can be
