- 0:58Speaker 1: We want to get right into our recap of this episode,
- 1:01Speaker 1: but first let's just do a very quick rundown of
- 1:03Speaker 1: some of the lead cast members. Okay, we'll talk more
- 1:06Speaker 1: about us we meet them. Okay, First up, we have
- 1:08Speaker 1: Anny McDowell, she plays Dell the Grandma. We have Citie
- 1:13Speaker 1: laflam Snow as Alice talk about great Oh my god,
- 1:18Speaker 1: she was so gosh the iron Oh. I've as a
- 1:23Speaker 1: mother of an almost fifteen year old, felt this deeply. Yes.
- 1:28Speaker 1: We also have Kyler Lee as Cat the adult Cat, Yes,
- 1:34Speaker 1: playing Elliott Augustine, we have Evan Williams and finally playing Dad.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Is it Brady? Is it Braydon Dewan, al McAdam macadam
- 1:47Speaker 1: voice memos, y'all send us a voice. Let's start with
- 1:52Speaker 1: a synopsis of season one, episode one of the Way Home,
- 1:56Speaker 1: entitled Mothers and Daughters. Cat and team daughter Alice move
- 2:01Speaker 1: in with estranged grandma Dell. Escaping the tension, Alice explores
- 2:07Speaker 1: the farm and finds herself on a surprising journey. Hey,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I think that synopsis nails it. It does, Yeah, it
- 2:14Speaker 1: definitely does. I have a question for you, Okay, would
- 2:18Speaker 1: you consider time travel to be a science fiction trope? Yes?
- 2:21Speaker 1: I would, Oh yes I would, And honestly was like
- 2:25Speaker 1: when I saw the previews of this show when it
- 2:28Speaker 1: first came out, I didn't know it was time travel.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So I got to tell you, I'm a little hesitant
- 2:35Speaker 1: because I don't like time travel stories. Okay. I don't
- 2:40Speaker 1: know why, because it falls into the sci fi genre
- 2:44Speaker 1: for me, which Wendy is not a fan of, not
- 2:47Speaker 1: a fan of. But I'm going to put that aside
- 2:50Speaker 1: for now just because I like where this story is going.
- 2:56Speaker 1: All right, So this episode opens with what I feel
- 2:59Speaker 1: is a real horror movie vibe. Oh yeah, right, we've
- 3:03Speaker 1: got an unidentified woman running through the woods being chased
- 3:09Speaker 1: by men with torches. Yeah, in eighteen fourteen New Brunswick.
- 3:13Speaker 1: If I wanted to know, who's that woman? Who are
- 3:15Speaker 1: these men? Where is she going? And then she leaps
- 3:19Speaker 1: over a log, hesitates, and then jumps right in. Yes,
- 3:25Speaker 1: let me stop you right there, I swear, And I
- 3:28Speaker 1: watched this twice. I swear she says something before she
- 3:32Speaker 1: jumps in, but I couldn't hear her, and there was
- 3:35Speaker 1: of course I watching I'm watching it with captions. There
- 3:38Speaker 1: was nothing there. Okay, So I don't know if I'm
- 3:41Speaker 1: like making that up. But what did she say? I
- 3:44Speaker 1: don't know. I have to imagine we have to come
- 3:48Speaker 1: back to this moment at some point, this eighteen fourteen moment.
- 3:51Speaker 1: We don't hear anything else about this time period in
- 3:54Speaker 1: this episode, but I'm hoping we find out. I assume
- 3:59Speaker 1: it's Oh, but how far back did she go? Is
- 4:03Speaker 1: this a relative of Alice? We have these women been
- 4:05Speaker 1: time traveling this whole time? You're out there alive time? Yes,
- 4:10Speaker 1: and she's it appears to be in pajamas some sort
- 4:14Speaker 1: of like yeah, like a yeah, yeah. I think there's
- 4:18Speaker 1: a lot that sets the scene at like the men
- 4:20Speaker 1: with the fleaming torches and what she's wearing. All that
- 4:25Speaker 1: very and it touches on it later, but it's very
- 4:29Speaker 1: like Scarlet Letter or Salem with Salem Witch Trials. Yeah,
- 4:34Speaker 1: so what's going on here? I don't know. I'm excited
- 4:37Speaker 1: to find out more. Same and we jump straight from
- 4:39Speaker 1: there to present day Minnesota. We've got a do it
- 4:41Speaker 1: with a guitar around stage. I got a nervous looking
- 4:44Speaker 1: girl standing off stage. She takes the stage, yeah, freaks out, yeah,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and runs off stage. Yes. Well, she sees her dad
- 4:52Speaker 1: like texting like he's not paying attention, you know. But
- 4:55Speaker 1: but what's funny is that? And again I'm jumping ahead
- 4:59Speaker 1: just a little bit, but her her mom tells her,
- 5:00Speaker 1: like you slayed that last year, So what happened? Why
- 5:04Speaker 1: is Alice now freaking out? Because remember the boy comes
- 5:07Speaker 1: off the stage or no, she I'm sorry. Alice comes
- 5:10Speaker 1: off the stage, runs off the stage before she pulls
- 5:12Speaker 1: the fire alarm, and he says, I knew you were
- 5:15Speaker 1: just the one hit wonder, So like what happened? Yes, yeah,
- 5:19Speaker 1: when did she lose her mojo. Yeah, I hope we
- 5:22Speaker 1: get more backstory, and I hope we get the backstory
- 5:26Speaker 1: in flashbacks. You know, don't tell me about it. I
- 5:31Speaker 1: want not et exposition. Yes, agree, yes, yes, next scene,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and I there's a lot happening in this first episode
- 5:37Speaker 1: because there's so much set up. I'm gonna tell you
- 5:40Speaker 1: right now. I felt like it was done really well.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Me too. Pilots are tough. But our next scene, we've
- 5:46Speaker 1: got what we will come to find out are Alice's parents,
- 5:51Speaker 1: Kat and Braiden arguing, and we find out that they
- 5:55Speaker 1: are no longer together. We don't find out in this
- 5:58Speaker 1: scene that they're not atually divorced, but at one point
- 6:02Speaker 1: the principal refers to Kat as Braden's wife and they
- 6:05Speaker 1: both respond ex wife, So we know that they are
- 6:08Speaker 1: not together and they're kind of playing the blame game
- 6:11Speaker 1: a little bit totally. We also learn that Cat has
- 6:15Speaker 1: recently been fired yes from a job that she loves,
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yes and all. In the same scene, we learn that
- 6:22Speaker 1: Alice has now been expelled from school for pulling the
- 6:25Speaker 1: fire alarm. This appears to not be the first incident
- 6:28Speaker 1: at school. She's kind of a rebel or they do
- 6:32Speaker 1: say like she's hanging out with a different crowd this year.
- 6:36Speaker 1: The dad jokes once he learns that Cat is not working,
- 6:39Speaker 1: he goes, oh, it looks like you'll have time for homeschooling.
- 6:42Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, I was going to punch
- 6:44Speaker 1: this guy in the face. My blood boiled's that moment.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And what we know seconds later in that scene is
- 6:51Speaker 1: they don't live together anymore. So how is she going
- 6:54Speaker 1: to support herself and stay home and not work and
- 6:57Speaker 1: homeschool this child? Yeah, I don't know, CMA. I really
- 7:01Speaker 1: had a visceral reaction to, oh, now, you can just
- 7:03Speaker 1: take this on yourself. Seriously. I am like, no points
- 7:07Speaker 1: for this guy already. I mean the fact that he
- 7:11Speaker 1: was like texting during when his daughter comes on stage,
- 7:14Speaker 1: like that is a highlight of me to see my
- 7:16Speaker 1: kid do something I would dude eyes on, there's no way. Yeah, ooh,
- 7:23Speaker 1: me so mad. In this exchange, we find out that Rachel,
- 7:28Speaker 1: who apparently is his girlfriend, has moved in. Now. I
- 7:32Speaker 1: was surprised to find out later in this episode that
- 7:34Speaker 1: they're not even divorced and he's already moved his new girlfriend.
- 7:36Speaker 1: No points from me. They do arrive to what I
- 7:40Speaker 1: believe to be Kat's home, and Alice is throwing a party,
- 7:44Speaker 1: I mean just right in the holiday like and has
- 7:47Speaker 1: the audacity when her parents kick everybody out to go
- 7:50Speaker 1: Are you serious? Oh my god? This has been like
- 7:54Speaker 1: the parent in me with like my head would explode.
- 7:58Speaker 1: These people at my home during the day, not giving
- 8:02Speaker 1: a care to like music's playing, foods everywhere. I'm assuming
- 8:07Speaker 1: they're drinking too. She doesn't even have the good sense
- 8:10Speaker 1: to like be worried about being in trouble. She's just
- 8:12Speaker 1: angry that they've ruined her foe. It's just like middle
- 8:14Speaker 1: fingers up to her parents, like she does not care,
- 8:18Speaker 1: especially on the heels of committing a crime and writing
- 8:21Speaker 1: expelled from school. So are we to assume like she
- 8:25Speaker 1: pulled the fire alarm and then busted out of there,
- 8:28Speaker 1: because wouldn't she be arrested for something? I don't know?
- 8:31Speaker 1: Is it a crime like that to pull a fere
- 8:34Speaker 1: It is? And they address that in the conversation with
- 8:36Speaker 1: the principal. And because the mom says it's not a crime,
- 8:40Speaker 1: to have stay tried. Isn't a crime and she says no,
- 8:42Speaker 1: but pulling a fire alarm is, and it comes with
- 8:46Speaker 1: a hefty fine as well. Well. I thought that best
- 8:49Speaker 1: part of that scene when they arrive home and Alice's
- 8:52Speaker 1: having the party is where Kat like looks this dude
- 8:57Speaker 1: up and down and is like, really, this guy, he's
- 9:00Speaker 1: like this full emo looking dude. Yeah, the full cliche
- 9:04Speaker 1: wrong crowd, Yes, that's totally and then dad really bat
- 9:09Speaker 1: in a thousand bails dude, I wrote on my notes
- 9:12Speaker 1: GTFO this guy. He's just like, Okay, you're gonna handle this.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I'm out of here, gotta go shack up with Rachel.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Now he's like, I got a busy day at work tomorrow.
- 9:21Speaker 1: It's still light outside, dude, stay here and parent gross
- 9:27Speaker 1: And then Alice and Kat and get into it. Yeah,
- 9:30Speaker 1: I'm in this scene. She says to Alice, I'm worried
- 9:34Speaker 1: that you were making the same mistakes I made at
- 9:37Speaker 1: your age. And I was like, that's super interesting because
- 9:41Speaker 1: I only caught that on the rewatch and we get
- 9:45Speaker 1: to it later. But Kat seems like a pretty good kid.
- 9:49Speaker 1: What mistakes did she make? Yeah? Anyway, well, I think
- 9:53Speaker 1: Alice's response to that is, oh, now I'm a mistake.
- 9:56Speaker 1: So I suspect that perhaps she got pregnant young. Ooh,
- 10:01Speaker 1: maybe we don't know yet. I don't know. Cat's angry
- 10:05Speaker 1: at Alice. I didn't love her response, like, why are
- 10:09Speaker 1: you throwing your gift away? I feel like in this moment,
- 10:12Speaker 1: her daughter clearly had something going on. She had stage right,
- 10:14Speaker 1: she ran off stage, and the mom is reacting she's
- 10:19Speaker 1: angry with her for that, and there's a lot to
- 10:21Speaker 1: be angry about. Yeah, but I feel like, you know
- 10:25Speaker 1: that's not We're not mad at our kid for freaking
- 10:28Speaker 1: out on stage. No, No, So that's why I think
- 10:32Speaker 1: like something has happened in the past year. Is it
- 10:37Speaker 1: just the divorce or the separation, like what's going on
- 10:41Speaker 1: with Obviously Alice wasn't like on track or very much
- 10:45Speaker 1: into music or whatever, and stop doing that. But because
- 10:50Speaker 1: why yes, and of course Alice is mad, then her
- 10:52Speaker 1: mom wasn't there. Yeah, next scene, Kat, how's a glass
- 10:56Speaker 1: of wine? She's at a desk and she's opening a
- 10:58Speaker 1: letter from her mother asking her to come home with
- 11:01Speaker 1: a family photo included. That was weird, right, It felt
- 11:05Speaker 1: emotionally manipulative, particularly knowing what we're going to find out
- 11:09Speaker 1: about this family right shortly, right, And I honestly was
- 11:15Speaker 1: shocked that they get right through it. They don't beat
- 11:16Speaker 1: her on the bush. Kat calls her mom. I was shocked.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I would have like sat on that letter for like
- 11:21Speaker 1: two weeks before deciding what to do. I like that
- 11:24Speaker 1: this story moves forward quickly because I think there would
- 11:27Speaker 1: have been more of a like we know that she's
- 11:29Speaker 1: in a situation where she needs a job. She isn't
- 11:33Speaker 1: going to be able to stay here, so she is
- 11:34Speaker 1: just an have one and they cut right to it. Yeah,
- 11:36Speaker 1: I mean, I guess, like, if you're feeling desperate, you're
- 11:38Speaker 1: going to make desperate decisions, right and if that means
- 11:41Speaker 1: maybe back home. And then we have one of the
- 11:44Speaker 1: most what I thought, beautiful scenes in the episode. We
- 11:48Speaker 1: cut to them driving home and we get what might
- 11:53Speaker 1: be the opening credit song. Yeah, I'm not sure. It's
- 11:57Speaker 1: called down by the Water by Abigail Lapel. It's a
- 12:01Speaker 1: perfect song for this show. Great, it's kind of haunting.
- 12:06Speaker 1: It's talking about water. I don't know. Yeah, it talks
- 12:10Speaker 1: about Dotter and I think it's it's really gives me
- 12:15Speaker 1: like Gilmore Girls vibes with that opening song, and we
- 12:18Speaker 1: get it again in the closing credit, so we will
- 12:20Speaker 1: find out if this is in fact, yeah, because we
- 12:22Speaker 1: didn't get like a proper like opening, correct, So yeah,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I'm curious to see how how it opens next week
- 12:31Speaker 1: and we find out accorney to Alice, they're moving to
- 12:33Speaker 1: middle of nowhere, Canada. It looks beautiful to me. It
- 12:37Speaker 1: does look beautiful. I would have loved to live on
- 12:39Speaker 1: this big farm. Yeah, but not as a teenager. No,
- 12:44Speaker 1: you ripped away from your friends and your school, and
- 12:46Speaker 1: there's obviously things going on with your parents, your father.
- 12:51Speaker 1: But yes, it was gorgeous. If you told me you
- 12:53Speaker 1: have to go live here, I'd be like, great, sign
- 12:55Speaker 1: me up. Yeah, that's my forty seven year old dream. Yes. Oh.
- 12:59Speaker 1: And then as they're driving into town, we see Welcome
- 13:02Speaker 1: to Port Haven, so we know we are back at
- 13:04Speaker 1: the scene of the opening of the show. Yes, we
- 13:09Speaker 1: also learn in the scene that Kat has lost her brother.
- 13:13Speaker 1: This is a conversation between Kat and Alice, and Alice
- 13:17Speaker 1: says something to the effect of like, I can't believe
- 13:21Speaker 1: you were so young when you lost your brother. And
- 13:23Speaker 1: it was basically that she's been gone and has been
- 13:26Speaker 1: gone for some time. Yes, she does talk about being
- 13:29Speaker 1: gone for twenty years. Yeah, because you know, Alice is
- 13:32Speaker 1: like if this place is so great, why did it
- 13:34Speaker 1: take you twenty years to come? Exactly exactly, Annie McDowell
- 13:37Speaker 1: greets him the door, and quite frankly, she's perfection to
- 13:40Speaker 1: me in this scene. I just love her. And what
- 13:44Speaker 1: I really love is she asks if they'd like to
- 13:47Speaker 1: go on a tour, and Kat's like, I got to
- 13:49Speaker 1: get settled in, and she goes, you're not invited. And
- 13:51Speaker 1: I think there's something really special about a grandparent grandchild relationship.
- 13:56Speaker 1: There's something about taking the element of rental responsibility about
- 14:01Speaker 1: and grandparents can kind of have that bond with their grandchildren.
- 14:05Speaker 1: And we'll come to find out that Dell is not
- 14:09Speaker 1: without her relationship flaw. Sure, she's not always going to
- 14:14Speaker 1: be warm to Alice, Yeah, but she does try and
- 14:17Speaker 1: draw her in pretty quickly. I agree. I think Andy
- 14:20Speaker 1: mcdallas just fantastic. Like I just think she's perfect for
- 14:25Speaker 1: this role. Agree, love that she's just natural, like her beautiful,
- 14:31Speaker 1: like natural gray hair gray, and she just looks like
- 14:34Speaker 1: she has aged beautifully. I just really it's just a
- 14:39Speaker 1: perfect role for her. It's such a good get perfect perfect.
- 14:43Speaker 1: So while Alice and Della are off on the tour,
- 14:47Speaker 1: we see that kat is, you know, walking through her
- 14:50Speaker 1: childhood home and having like these flashbacks. We don't totally
- 14:54Speaker 1: see like her or her brother who has passed, but
- 14:59Speaker 1: we see like elements of a home that used to
- 15:03Speaker 1: be lively with younger children. And then she sees like
- 15:08Speaker 1: the pictures on the mantle and it's just a dell,
- 15:12Speaker 1: like there's nothing there to represent like once was. Yes,
- 15:17Speaker 1: Familey photos have been replaced, yeah, which is we knew
- 15:21Speaker 1: this was all coming anyway, because they had been in
- 15:23Speaker 1: the like previews for weeks and weeks and weeks, you know,
- 15:25Speaker 1: when Kyler yells at Kyler, when kay yells at Dell
- 15:29Speaker 1: for saying, like you've there's no pictures here, so we
- 15:33Speaker 1: knew this was coming. And cut back to Grandma and Alice,
- 15:36Speaker 1: and Alice is sorely as hell when Grandma says someday
- 15:39Speaker 1: this farm might be hers, and Alice is like, I'm
- 15:41Speaker 1: not much of a farmer, right, just just quiet, she
- 15:45Speaker 1: just you know, you can fully appreciate the teenager in
- 15:48Speaker 1: her that she does not know when to shut up
- 15:50Speaker 1: announce dinnertime, and Delle wants to know what they're gonna do.
- 15:53Speaker 1: She gets right into it, what are you gonna do
- 15:55Speaker 1: while you're here? And I thought, gosh, there, you know,
- 15:59Speaker 1: the maternal that take a minute and recover and find
- 16:04Speaker 1: your footing wasn't there? And I really wanted that for Kat.
- 16:09Speaker 1: You wanted her to be like settle in, figure it out. Yeah,
- 16:12Speaker 1: we got you. But no, she's like, you're gonna get
- 16:15Speaker 1: a job to us landry women have planned and she's
- 16:19Speaker 1: not on board with Kat's planned to write a book. Yeah.
- 16:22Speaker 1: That was kind of funny because I was like, what
- 16:24Speaker 1: does Kat have to write about? Are we talking novels?
- 16:26Speaker 1: Are we talking what like what life on the farm
- 16:30Speaker 1: or life experience as a reporter? Maybe just because she's
- 16:33Speaker 1: a good writer, Yeah, but why wouldn't Dell support that? Though? Well,
- 16:38Speaker 1: I think Dell's a very practical woman Oka, and so
- 16:43Speaker 1: writing a book, there's not a clear path from beginning
- 16:47Speaker 1: to financial success. Okay, you can write a book and
- 16:52Speaker 1: you at the end you have a book, but you
- 16:54Speaker 1: don't necessarily have income, you don't necessarily have a job.
- 16:57Speaker 1: For her, she wants you go get a job and
- 16:59Speaker 1: now you're going to get a paycheck every two weeks. Yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 1: what was that place that she was saying that they
- 17:02Speaker 1: were hiring the point. What is the point? Is it
- 17:06Speaker 1: a wrestler? I think it's actually is where the cafe
- 17:10Speaker 1: where they find Alice. Later, Alice wants to finish out
- 17:12Speaker 1: the school you're online. Dell is not a fan of
- 17:15Speaker 1: that plan. And not only is she not a fan
- 17:18Speaker 1: of that plan, she points out all the reasons why
- 17:19Speaker 1: it's not gonna work because internet is spotty at the farm,
- 17:22Speaker 1: She's gonna have to go in down work at the library,
- 17:24Speaker 1: and Alice just gives in. Yeah. I was surprised, like
- 17:27Speaker 1: how easy she came in and she was like, fine,
- 17:29Speaker 1: we'll start school tomorrow then, yeah, and good news, Dell
- 17:32Speaker 1: has already registered her. This woman works fast. Yeah she does.
- 17:36Speaker 1: She definitely does. I love how kind of like gruff
- 17:41Speaker 1: she is, Like she's not warm and fuzzy. She is not.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And it's kind of in contrast because when we later
- 17:49Speaker 1: on see some flashback episodes when when the kids are younger,
- 17:53Speaker 1: doesn't she seem a lot like lighter, lighter, yeah, softer
- 17:59Speaker 1: around the edges, and knowing what little we know, it's
- 18:03Speaker 1: not terribly surprising to me. I know she's been hardened
- 18:06Speaker 1: by life exactly exactly. We cut to Alice in her
- 18:11Speaker 1: mom's old room and she's texting and she's unhappy, and
- 18:15Speaker 1: she drops her phone and she finds the program from
- 18:18Speaker 1: her grandfather's funeral. Yes, now, did you notice the year
- 18:23Speaker 1: that he died? I did not, nineteen ninety nine, two thousand.
- 18:27Speaker 1: That will be important momentarily, I think so. I think
- 18:30Speaker 1: it's important. Yes, I agree, because it's going to establish
- 18:33Speaker 1: the timeline of like things that happen, and they have
- 18:36Speaker 1: happened pretty quickly. Yes, okay, And then we cut back
- 18:39Speaker 1: to the kitchen. Cat and Dell are having a conversation,
- 18:41Speaker 1: and this is where we discovered that they're not divorced,
- 18:43Speaker 1: but Kat says the separation is at this point permanent
- 18:46Speaker 1: because his girlfriend has moved in. This is the moment
- 18:48Speaker 1: I was shocked, kind of Dick moved to move your
- 18:50Speaker 1: girlfriend in before you're even divorced. Yeah, even it seemed
- 18:53Speaker 1: like before they were moving forward with divorce proceeding, right
- 18:57Speaker 1: if they had been separated at that point. But then
- 18:59Speaker 1: we get to some interesting news. Dale didn't actually send
- 19:02Speaker 1: the letter. She seems shocked when Kat thanks her for
- 19:05Speaker 1: the letter and thought Kat reaching out was the first step.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I was like, don't they have like a conversation at
- 19:11Speaker 1: all like prior to this, and I wonder if Kat
- 19:16Speaker 1: called Dell and was like, I need to come home. Oh,
- 19:20Speaker 1: maybe she just assumed that Dell knew that it was
- 19:23Speaker 1: in response to her letter, but Delle just thought she
- 19:26Speaker 1: was reaching out. So who sent the letter? Now Dell
- 19:29Speaker 1: does accuse Elliott? Shortly, Yes, we got to a scene
- 19:34Speaker 1: that I thought was pretty heartbreaking, and that is Alice
- 19:37Speaker 1: begging her dad to let her come home. And while
- 19:39Speaker 1: I think she's been in a complete pain in the
- 19:41Speaker 1: ass about this entire episode, I also do understand that
- 19:45Speaker 1: she'd want to go home, yeah, and she wants to
- 19:47Speaker 1: be wanted by her dad. She wants her dad to
- 19:49Speaker 1: want her to come home, yea what she wants, yeah,
- 19:52Speaker 1: and he says no. And what would you do in
- 19:55Speaker 1: that situation? Hypothetically if you and your husband were separate, raided,
- 20:01Speaker 1: and you took your children somewhere and they wanted to
- 20:06Speaker 1: go live with dad, would you want dad to support
- 20:11Speaker 1: you in taking the children away or would you be
- 20:15Speaker 1: mad at dad for not offering up a place for them. Well,
- 20:20Speaker 1: here's where my practical side comes in, is that there's
- 20:22Speaker 1: got to be some sort of like legal custody situation.
- 20:28Speaker 1: In place, but maybe there isn't This is a hard situation.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I don't think I would make a decision in one day. Yeah,
- 20:37Speaker 1: here's another question. They lived in the States, in Minnesota,
- 20:41Speaker 1: they went to Canada. Don't you get to like, isn't
- 20:44Speaker 1: there something about taking a minor she was kidnapping her? No,
- 20:49Speaker 1: but she had her father's permission. I've taken my minor
- 20:51Speaker 1: children to Canada without a father, fine, without my husband father.
- 20:59Speaker 1: And then we get more flashbacks Kat and her little
- 21:02Speaker 1: brother putting glow in the dark stars on the ceiling,
- 21:04Speaker 1: and we still don't know what has happened to Jacob.
- 21:09Speaker 1: There's this sweet moment and she's looking up at the
- 21:13Speaker 1: old glow in the dark stars in that bedroom. Now,
- 21:16Speaker 1: Delle did not want her sleeping in Jacob's room. Yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 1: that was didn't go over so well did it? Next morning?
- 21:22Speaker 1: You know, Delle's kind of spicy as ever. Alice comes
- 21:25Speaker 1: downstairs and she's like, don't you want to get dressed? Now?
- 21:27Speaker 1: Are you a come downstairs in your pajamas kind of household? I? Yeah, yes,
- 21:30Speaker 1: so were we. Honestly, it kind of surprised me because
- 21:33Speaker 1: she seems like she's pretty casual, right, but she had
- 21:36Speaker 1: these rules. Like Alice was like, I'm just gonna get coffee.
- 21:40Speaker 1: I don't really do breakfast, you know, because Dale's like
- 21:42Speaker 1: eat something too, you know. And then Della plays a
- 21:47Speaker 1: trick on Alice, which let's talk about okay. She asked
- 21:51Speaker 1: her to let the dog out. Yes, Alice, that's the
- 21:52Speaker 1: dog out. And there's a bunch of teenagers working on
- 21:55Speaker 1: the farm, right, and they all kind of look at
- 21:57Speaker 1: her and laugh. Yeah, my daughter went to camp this
- 21:59Speaker 1: past weekend and when we picked her up, eighty percent
- 22:02Speaker 1: of the kids getting out of van were in their pajamas.
- 22:04Speaker 1: I think it's just what kids wear. Now. I go
- 22:06Speaker 1: to high school right now, half of them will be
- 22:08Speaker 1: in pajama pants. I think that is just she wasn't naked,
- 22:13Speaker 1: I know. I just think post twenty twenty, for some reason,
- 22:16Speaker 1: pajama pants became acceptable where during the day. Yeah, but
- 22:20Speaker 1: what I'm saying is this wouldn't have been humiliated. It
- 22:22Speaker 1: would just because she's wearing these like fuzzy rabbit slippers
- 22:26Speaker 1: and like whatever. She had like smudgy black makeup under
- 22:30Speaker 1: her eyes. She was thirty yards away. Yeah, it wasn't
- 22:34Speaker 1: like she walked outside naked. Yeah, right, she was wearing
- 22:37Speaker 1: a bunny costume. I didn't think that that was humiliating.
- 22:41Speaker 1: But she's the new girl in town, and I guess
- 22:43Speaker 1: that's not the impression she wants to make. Yeah, but
- 22:45Speaker 1: maybe we're making this as a perspective of our age.
- 22:49Speaker 1: If my daughter would probably be mortified if I sent
- 22:53Speaker 1: her outside and there were boys and girls, Yes, and
- 22:57Speaker 1: she was that's her first impression. Yeah, she would sure, Yeah,
- 23:00Speaker 1: she wouldn't like that. So, I mean, I can see
- 23:03Speaker 1: from both ways. I kind of like, I know, Dell
- 23:05Speaker 1: thinks it's funny, and she's like, oh, I don't teach
- 23:07Speaker 1: you not to get dressed before records. I thought I
- 23:09Speaker 1: was just kind of mean because clearly that was her intent. Yes, yes,
- 23:13Speaker 1: but why why do that to your granddaughter? Like what
- 23:15Speaker 1: was what was her point there? Ye, to prove to
- 23:18Speaker 1: her that that's why you need to get dressed it
- 23:20Speaker 1: just see the rules of the farming school. I thought,
- 23:22Speaker 1: so too. Oh cool, Well a cat enjoyed it. Yeah,
- 23:25Speaker 1: you know, I get it. She's also in a place
- 23:27Speaker 1: where her daughter's been reading her The Riot Act every night,
- 23:29Speaker 1: and so you know, to see her daughter get a
- 23:31Speaker 1: little bit of a taste of her on medicine. Next up,
- 23:34Speaker 1: we've got Cat making some disappointed phone calls to editors
- 23:38Speaker 1: who are not as interested in her book as she
- 23:40Speaker 1: once believed they might be. That's why I'm wondering, like,
- 23:43Speaker 1: what is the story here, Like she had a book
- 23:46Speaker 1: idea that was exciting at one point and then didn't
- 23:50Speaker 1: do it. I don't know. I think she is in
- 23:53Speaker 1: the world and she meets people and they, you know,
- 23:57Speaker 1: she says someday I'd like to write a book and
- 23:58Speaker 1: they say I'd love to about that when the time
- 24:01Speaker 1: comes as a throwaway comment, and whether they're actually in
- 24:04Speaker 1: the market for whatever type of books she would write
- 24:07Speaker 1: at the time, clearly they are not. Yeah, she's gonna
- 24:10Speaker 1: have to get a job at the point she is
- 24:13Speaker 1: so waiting tables. I had a timeline question, okay, because
- 24:17Speaker 1: Delle goes outside and my note say, Dell confronts Clark
- 24:21Speaker 1: Kent about mailing a letter. Clark can't another glasses character
- 24:25Speaker 1: wearing glasses. Yeah, so it's Elliot Augustine, longtime family friend.
- 24:30Speaker 1: It appears that maybe he's supervising this high school program
- 24:33Speaker 1: where the students volunteer on the farm before school. What
- 24:35Speaker 1: time is it it's like six am. Man. So, first
- 24:39Speaker 1: of all, a lot happens. I believe that he says
- 24:42Speaker 1: he didn't send the letter m hm, whether he was
- 24:46Speaker 1: lying or genuinely unclear about who sent the letter, but
- 24:51Speaker 1: he says it wasn't me. I think it was him, Okay,
- 24:56Speaker 1: only because I maybe he just says, I don't know
- 24:59Speaker 1: what you're talking about. It because I in his adult life,
- 25:03Speaker 1: he knows that Alice is going to return. He had
- 25:06Speaker 1: to send the letter to get her there. I don't know. Yes,
- 25:08Speaker 1: good point, good point, I know. Spoiler alerts skipping the head.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Elliott and Kat are reacquainted, and Mom says, oh, you
- 25:14Speaker 1: have a lot in common what with your divorces, and
- 25:16Speaker 1: oh my god, so shady you're both single. Shade. Kat
- 25:22Speaker 1: and Elliott chat for a minute, and then apparently Alice
- 25:25Speaker 1: is all of a sudden, miss Conscientio's about getting to
- 25:28Speaker 1: school on time. She barrels out the door. I was like, Mom,
- 25:30Speaker 1: we gotta go. Yeah. I gotta say, my own fifteen
- 25:33Speaker 1: year old is does the same thing. Mind does too.
- 25:35Speaker 1: You know, he takes his time, takes his time, takes
- 25:37Speaker 1: his time, and then all of a sudden he's like
- 25:39Speaker 1: everybody are you ready? Yeah, I'm the one that yeah,
- 25:43Speaker 1: the whole My question is, if Alice is leaving for
- 25:46Speaker 1: school in that moment, why is it, mister Augustine already
- 25:50Speaker 1: I know it's it's kind of messy hair. Yeah, the
- 25:52Speaker 1: teachers need to get to school before they don't the
- 25:55Speaker 1: other students who are working in the farm don't. They
- 25:57Speaker 1: need to get to school too, right, So I did
- 26:00Speaker 1: see that Elliott, he has a peculiar reaction to Alice
- 26:04Speaker 1: seeing her. I think this is his first time that
- 26:07Speaker 1: he sees her, or that we see that he sees her. Okay,
- 26:10Speaker 1: there's something weird there, we'll see. Okay, she does meet
- 26:14Speaker 1: a few to the farm teens at school. They seem
- 26:17Speaker 1: like nice kids. They seem like these are potential friends
- 26:20Speaker 1: of hers. Yeah, I hope. So now Kat and Braden
- 26:22Speaker 1: are yelling at each other, and Kat is super mad
- 26:26Speaker 1: that he turned Alice down. I'm kind of surprised by
- 26:29Speaker 1: that because I don't think there's any way he could
- 26:32Speaker 1: have done the right thing in this moment. Yeah, he
- 26:35Speaker 1: either says come home and now she's like, what are
- 26:37Speaker 1: you doing to me? Right? Or he's breaking their daughter's heart. Right,
- 26:42Speaker 1: So damned if you do here. I do feel that
- 26:46Speaker 1: he did empathize with Kat's return at home, like he
- 26:52Speaker 1: understand I mean they were like teenage loves right, so
- 26:55Speaker 1: he knew Dell at one time, or he knew what
- 26:58Speaker 1: their home was like at one time, and the tragedy
- 27:01Speaker 1: that unfolds, and he's so he feels empathy for her
- 27:05Speaker 1: that she's back there and having to deal with that. Yeah,
- 27:07Speaker 1: And she tells Dad and Jacob have been erased from
- 27:10Speaker 1: the house. Yeah, And how weird it is he thought
- 27:13Speaker 1: he had. It was such a jery, a moment of redemption. Yes,
- 27:16Speaker 1: I agree, And we find out Dell's keeping bees. And
- 27:19Speaker 1: this is my favorite line of the entire episode, when
- 27:21Speaker 1: Kat's like, why did you change the house? It's like
- 27:24Speaker 1: an Airbnb in there, right, And I thought, like the
- 27:27Speaker 1: shells on the tray, Yes, I totally agree, and Delle
- 27:32Speaker 1: spends it right back on Cat. She's like, you're floundering,
- 27:35Speaker 1: and Kat's like, of course I'm floundering. You erased my life.
- 27:38Speaker 1: It's kind of sad. It's really sad. And I thought, again,
- 27:44Speaker 1: where is the warm, fuzzy mom Like, yes, I'm floundering.
- 27:47Speaker 1: My marriage has ended. I've had you uproot my life
- 27:50Speaker 1: and move back home because I've lost my job. It's
- 27:53Speaker 1: very clear that I'm floundering. And I come back home
- 27:55Speaker 1: a place that is supposed to feel welcoming and warm
- 27:59Speaker 1: and like home. Yes, and it doesn't feel like that.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I just think that some people are not capable of that. Yeah,
- 28:06Speaker 1: So again, wants me to know more about what happened
- 28:11Speaker 1: to Dell. Yes, of course something has hardened her up
- 28:15Speaker 1: over the years. Yes, she has healing to do. Yeah,
- 28:19Speaker 1: she's obviously had some trauma too. Yeah. And then Shakar
- 28:23Speaker 1: Alice is in mister Augustine's classroom and he offers to
- 28:27Speaker 1: talk to her any place, anytime. Yeah. And my daughter
- 28:31Speaker 1: and I were watching this together and I go, eh,
- 28:33Speaker 1: you hear that? And then these all real shitty classmates,
- 28:39Speaker 1: Oh is it getting hot in here? And they pretend
- 28:41Speaker 1: to pull a fire alone. Yeah, damn, that's not even funny.
- 28:43Speaker 1: It's not this time for a creepy basement. That was
- 28:46Speaker 1: kind of scary. When was the last time anybody was
- 28:48Speaker 1: in here? Lamps are on their side, it's a full meth.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Kind of surprised Dell kept a basement in such a disarray. Yeah,
- 28:57Speaker 1: it was kind of funny. Because Kat pulls out like
- 29:00Speaker 1: Jacob's one box of memories. It's just like one cardboard box, Jacob.
- 29:06Speaker 1: She was going through that, but she was just looking
- 29:07Speaker 1: at like there was like a box and a ball.
- 29:10Speaker 1: And we get to that little mysterious box later on. Yeah,
- 29:13Speaker 1: a little tin he's gonna use for his treasures. Yes,
- 29:16Speaker 1: And we see a flashback of her dad and Jacob
- 29:18Speaker 1: fixing a clock together, a real sweet moment, and then
- 29:21Speaker 1: we find out miss Alice skips school pieced out. Yeah,
- 29:25Speaker 1: I probably would have two, Like that was probably it
- 29:27Speaker 1: for her. Like the kid's making fun of her. She's like,
- 29:29Speaker 1: I'm out of hair and doing that. So she's been
- 29:31Speaker 1: spotted at the Point cafe and income's mom. Yeah, I
- 29:34Speaker 1: really love that because Alice is sitting at a table
- 29:38Speaker 1: and she's watching a birthday video of herself and she
- 29:42Speaker 1: has these huge like beats headphones on right, Like which
- 29:46Speaker 1: AirPod maxes it was? Is that what they were? I
- 29:49Speaker 1: don't know, but big headphones, huge headphones, And I was
- 29:52Speaker 1: kind of like what a fifteen year old really? Let
- 29:55Speaker 1: me tell you. The AirPod max is very popular, Okay,
- 29:58Speaker 1: very six R dollars headphones. Oh gosh. So anyway, the
- 30:01Speaker 1: mom's like, he felts of yes, Cat, you can tell
- 30:07Speaker 1: who we relate to in this show, and she's mad
- 30:10Speaker 1: that Alice hasn't given it a chance. And we see
- 30:14Speaker 1: them back at home arguing about Alice moving home, and
- 30:18Speaker 1: in a real dick move, I think Kat tells Alice
- 30:21Speaker 1: that Rachel has moved in. You think that's a dick
- 30:24Speaker 1: move because it's not appropriate for the mom to tell
- 30:27Speaker 1: the daughter. I think she was kind of trying to
- 30:29Speaker 1: hurt her daughter a little bit. Oh you think so?
- 30:32Speaker 1: It felt like it. She was like, you can't move
- 30:34Speaker 1: home because Rachel has moved in, Like Rachel has taken
- 30:36Speaker 1: your place. And I guess the question here is if
- 30:41Speaker 1: this is her dad's new girlfriend. If he's moved in,
- 30:43Speaker 1: things are serious. At some point, Kat and Rachel are
- 30:46Speaker 1: going to have to coexist. They're going to have to
- 30:50Speaker 1: live together at some point, or at least have a
- 30:53Speaker 1: like a life that overlaps. Yeah. Yeah, But to me,
- 30:56Speaker 1: it felt like her mom wasn't getting through to Alice
- 30:58Speaker 1: and she wanted to land a blow. I think that's fair.
- 31:02Speaker 1: I also think perhaps she could be like, she needs
- 31:06Speaker 1: Alice on her team and let's be mat dad together
- 31:11Speaker 1: and this is the reason why. Yeah, but I don't know.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Alice runs into the woods, throws the bracelet that we
- 31:18Speaker 1: know her mother had given her into the pond, and
- 31:21Speaker 1: then pretty much instantly regrets it. Yeah right, she checks
- 31:25Speaker 1: it in and then she walks out onto the step
- 31:28Speaker 1: or the rock, whatever it is, and like she's looking looking, looking,
- 31:32Speaker 1: and I gotta say, like they made the pond look
- 31:34Speaker 1: really kind of not desirable to swim in, murky, and
- 31:39Speaker 1: even delle ha says earlier in the episode that she's
- 31:42Speaker 1: like it's more of like a sinkhole than it is
- 31:45Speaker 1: a pond. You know, there's like stuff floating on it
- 31:48Speaker 1: and whatever. Would you ever just jump into a pond? No,
- 31:52Speaker 1: I don't know what's in there? Absolutely not anyway. So
- 31:56Speaker 1: she's like reaching in. This is the part that's a
- 31:59Speaker 1: little a little bit unbelievable to me. She's like reaching
- 32:02Speaker 1: reaching the bracelet has sunk, it's not going to be
- 32:05Speaker 1: floating on the top, right, And then all of a
- 32:07Speaker 1: sudden she falls in head head over feet, you know. Yeah,
- 32:11Speaker 1: and the sea weed gets her, which looked like fern,
- 32:17Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about. The fern is wrapping
- 32:20Speaker 1: her up in her legs and she's flailing underwater with
- 32:25Speaker 1: the big eyes and she's you know, panicking, I guess,
- 32:29Speaker 1: and then a hand reaches out pulls her out of
- 32:31Speaker 1: the water and it's Cat. Yeah, young Cat Yes. And
- 32:37Speaker 1: back to present day, We've got Kat and Elliott talking
- 32:39Speaker 1: in the kitchen and can't can't believe the old Alice
- 32:42Speaker 1: isn't back. And at this point I yelled at my
- 32:44Speaker 1: TV after one night, Cat, she's not bringing her back home?
- 32:48Speaker 1: Would bring the old Alice back? It's going to take
- 32:51Speaker 1: a minute. Yeah, I mean, lower your expectations. Kat Elliott
- 32:57Speaker 1: like reference a song they reference Everybody's Free by Rosala,
- 33:02Speaker 1: the spoken word hit of the nineties. I don't even
- 33:05Speaker 1: know that song, hold on. It's from nineteen ninety two.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I was a sophomore in high school. Guys, I was
- 33:18Speaker 1: sixth grader. What a weird song to reference. I know
- 33:23Speaker 1: there were some nineties deep cuts in this episode. That
- 33:26Speaker 1: is a weird one to me, I think so too. Yeah,
- 33:28Speaker 1: I think a better song reference there would have been
- 33:30Speaker 1: like some sort of rim song, like everybody hurts sometime,
- 33:35Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about? That Arim song. So
- 33:37Speaker 1: I don't know everybody cut back, Young Cat and Allys
- 33:42Speaker 1: are walking, Alice is soaking wet, and baby Elliott pops
- 33:45Speaker 1: his head out of the top window of what I
- 33:47Speaker 1: believe is a barn and they meet Elliott, our best friend,
- 33:51Speaker 1: and then we have the first wowie zowie of the
- 33:55Speaker 1: way home. Actually that's not true, because I actually think
- 33:59Speaker 1: adult La is quite a cutie. I agree, but there
- 34:03Speaker 1: is something about Colton. But Colton turns around with the
- 34:09Speaker 1: cutest smile I've ever seen, and man, this is Jefferson
- 34:12Speaker 1: Brown hot or what? Yeah, we did a little dive
- 34:15Speaker 1: on him today. Jefferson Brown forty seven years old, yep,
- 34:18Speaker 1: age appropriate and it's super cute, so handsome. I'm like, whoa.
- 34:24Speaker 1: And I think he's the perfect actor for this because
- 34:27Speaker 1: what I'm guessing is like he was the real heart
- 34:30Speaker 1: of that home, Like there just was like, yeah, warmth
- 34:33Speaker 1: emanating from this actor on screen, Like oh, they have
- 34:36Speaker 1: such a nice fam. God. I just hope we get
- 34:38Speaker 1: more of him, I know, and flashbacks, you know, I
- 34:40Speaker 1: just hope, like it's not just to establish like the
- 34:42Speaker 1: story in this episode. I hope we get more of it.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I think we will. I think we will, Okay, And
- 34:47Speaker 1: then Alice enters Young Cat's bedroom lands of the calendar,
- 34:50Speaker 1: and that's when we learned that it is nineteen ninety nine.
- 34:53Speaker 1: And this is why it is important that that program
- 34:57Speaker 1: said two thousand. We don't have a lot of time
- 34:58Speaker 1: to work with here, right, it's kind of interesting. Something
- 35:01Speaker 1: has to go bad. Alice knows that her grandfather passes away,
- 35:05Speaker 1: and she probably knew when he passed away. I'm wondering
- 35:08Speaker 1: when she's gonna make the connection of how little time
- 35:13Speaker 1: she has left in this past before she loses him, right,
- 35:18Speaker 1: And was it established if Jacob died before Colton, not
- 35:23Speaker 1: that I'm aware of, or if they died at the
- 35:25Speaker 1: same time. Yeah, I don't know. I don't think so,
- 35:28Speaker 1: based on the conversation happens later. But let's get back
- 35:32Speaker 1: to it. Okay. This was one of my favorite scenes
- 35:36Speaker 1: because Young Cat is getting some clothes for Alice to
- 35:40Speaker 1: change into and she says something about her like clothes
- 35:44Speaker 1: not being great or whatever, and Alice says, it's okay,
- 35:48Speaker 1: the nineties are totally back in style anyway, Yeah, and
- 35:51Speaker 1: Cat's like, what never mind? Well, I picked up on
- 35:54Speaker 1: that too. But what I loved about that scene is earlier,
- 35:57Speaker 1: when Alice is leaving the house. She's like, I don't
- 35:59Speaker 1: even know, it's weird of school. I hate everything I own.
- 36:01Speaker 1: And then Kat basically says the exact same thing. She's like, here,
- 36:04Speaker 1: I hate everything I own. Yeah, yeah, I think that's
- 36:07Speaker 1: pretty typical of fifteen year old of course, of course
- 36:10Speaker 1: forty three year old women. Yes, do we ever grow
- 36:13Speaker 1: out of that? I don't know. And then we see
- 36:15Speaker 1: Dell at the kitchen table with young Jacob looking at
- 36:18Speaker 1: his polaroids and telling them that he has a beautiful
- 36:20Speaker 1: eye for photography or shadowy lay in the groundwork there,
- 36:27Speaker 1: and then Lee get Alice in the baby doll dress. Yes, yes,
- 36:32Speaker 1: we're gonna have a little bit more to talk about
- 36:35Speaker 1: that baby doll dress. Yeah yeah, yeah at the end
- 36:38Speaker 1: in our new segment Noticed in the nineties, Noticed in
- 36:42Speaker 1: the nineties. So we're at the dinner table. It's kind
- 36:46Speaker 1: of crazy because we're in the same home. We're in
- 36:49Speaker 1: it's the same dinner situation, and it's very lively and
- 36:53Speaker 1: fun and and you know, they're talking and they're talking
- 36:56Speaker 1: about Cat getting a job at the camp, and of
- 36:59Speaker 1: course she has to go because you never know who
- 37:01Speaker 1: she's gonna be. Of course, that's where she meets her
- 37:03Speaker 1: future husband. Do we then go to the scene in
- 37:06Speaker 1: present day, Yes, we do, because then we go back
- 37:08Speaker 1: to this scene. Yes, Sonami got Cat and Dell at
- 37:10Speaker 1: the kitchen table in present day right. And this, this
- 37:13Speaker 1: is what's wild to me, is because we it's we're
- 37:18Speaker 1: comparing and contrasting. Like the scene it takes place in
- 37:22Speaker 1: the same place, yes, and one is lively and full
- 37:27Speaker 1: of life, and I guess those two things mean the same.
- 37:31Speaker 1: And then we have like it's almost like the coloring
- 37:34Speaker 1: of it is even like darker. Yeah, she's sitting in
- 37:38Speaker 1: the same chair Dell. Yes. Also side note, I had
- 37:42Speaker 1: read an article from Annie McDowell and she said that
- 37:46Speaker 1: she was a little bit worried about shooting the scenes
- 37:49Speaker 1: with her. She's wearing a wig in those scenes, and
- 37:52Speaker 1: she was a little bit worried because she's like her
- 37:55Speaker 1: neck was going to give away her age. Oh interesting,
- 37:58Speaker 1: And she's like, but lucky, like the director shot it
- 38:01Speaker 1: with like kind of like an out of focus you know,
- 38:04Speaker 1: filter or whatever. And I was like, oh God, I
- 38:06Speaker 1: fill your pain with this nest situation too. But that's
- 38:11Speaker 1: how I remember Andy mcdout with like this dark curly
- 38:15Speaker 1: hair yeah, she looks great grey. I thought either way,
- 38:18Speaker 1: she looks great. She's so gorgeous. One thing I really
- 38:21Speaker 1: noticed in this scene is Della's calm and Cat's freaking
- 38:24Speaker 1: out because Alice is missing, and delsa she'll be fine,
- 38:27Speaker 1: and Kat says, well, Jacob wasn't out. That's below the belt,
- 38:31Speaker 1: don't you think so? So that Allan's me to believe
- 38:34Speaker 1: there was an accident. I hope he didn't drown in
- 38:38Speaker 1: the pond looking for the White Witch, foreshadowing Oh my goodness.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Back to nineteen eighty nine, Dad's playing guitar, and is
- 38:44Speaker 1: this where Alice gets her musical talent from Oh my
- 38:47Speaker 1: Gosh A Voice of an angel? Singing along with Colton.
- 38:51Speaker 1: They were singing better Be Home Soon by Crowded House.
- 38:55Speaker 1: I mean that was a nineties I know I'm not
- 38:58Speaker 1: familiar with that song, but crowded House a ninety staple. Yeah.
- 39:02Speaker 1: I thought it was really sweet because you know, she
- 39:04Speaker 1: like apologizes for singing along. And I, from the perspective
- 39:07Speaker 1: of a parent, I loved the idea of, like any
- 39:11Speaker 1: of my kids friends feeling that comfortable in our house.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Totally like to be that part of the moment. I don't.
- 39:17Speaker 1: There's no parent that wouldn't like love that moment. And
- 39:20Speaker 1: then Colton says, never apologize for talent. Now here's what's
- 39:25Speaker 1: interesting to me. Alice is going to go home and
- 39:27Speaker 1: Delle's like, oh cold and milwalk you and she's like no, no, no,
- 39:30Speaker 1: I'll be fine, and they just like give it up. Yeah,
- 39:32Speaker 1: because obviously just got to go jump back in the pond. Right, Yeah,
- 39:35Speaker 1: but first Jake takes polaroin. Yes, but wait he did
- 39:39Speaker 1: he does mention the white Witch. Did you not catch
- 39:42Speaker 1: that part? I did, so Jacob says to her like, oh,
- 39:47Speaker 1: don't let the White Witch get you on the way home,
- 39:50Speaker 1: and Dale says, oh, time for a full floor. Yeah, so,
- 39:56Speaker 1: I mean obviously he's referring to like this lore of
- 40:02Speaker 1: this girl being chased and jumping into the pond, who
- 40:06Speaker 1: maybe then drowned there. Perhaps we don't know. Is she
- 40:11Speaker 1: haunting people? So many unanswered questions. As Alice leaves, she
- 40:14Speaker 1: looks back into the window and it's a very sweet
- 40:16Speaker 1: family tableau that she looks upon. Tableau. There's that word. Anyway,
- 40:22Speaker 1: we did mention that. Jacob takes a picture, right, Jacob
- 40:24Speaker 1: takes a polorid. Yeah, we did, and we see Kat
- 40:27Speaker 1: back in present day, calling Alice, leaving her a message
- 40:31Speaker 1: begging her to come home. Here's my issue with that scene.
- 40:33Speaker 1: What no teen listens to their voicemail? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 40:36Speaker 1: I'm not even sure my son has an outgoing message
- 40:39Speaker 1: set up on his She doesn't have Life three sixty
- 40:41Speaker 1: on there where she can like find find my phone,
- 40:44Speaker 1: find my friends, something where she can locate her daughter,
- 40:48Speaker 1: an Apple air tag on this girl who's obviously been
- 40:51Speaker 1: in trouble the last year, like something to find her.
- 40:55Speaker 1: I just think like they're living in a different lifestyle,
- 40:59Speaker 1: like out in this arm like you. She'll be home
- 41:01Speaker 1: when she gets home. Nothing bad happens here, you know.
- 41:05Speaker 1: But I don't. I don't think she feels that way. Shit,
- 41:08Speaker 1: I don't literally freaked out. Kat doesn't feel that way.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Yeah yeah. And then Kat opens Jacob's jar of treasures
- 41:14Speaker 1: and finds the stack of photos. And this is the
- 41:17Speaker 1: moment I thought we've lost Wendy. No no, no, no,
- 41:20Speaker 1: you didn't. I was like, oh, it's a real Marty
- 41:25Speaker 1: McFly moot to. Yeah, I was into it. I was
- 41:30Speaker 1: super into it. She flips to the photos, and of
- 41:32Speaker 1: course she sees the one that he took with Alice
- 41:35Speaker 1: in it, and there's something blogging her, so she can't
- 41:37Speaker 1: see her face, but you do see her dress. Yes,
- 41:40Speaker 1: So I'm wondering, like, does Cat have memory of this,
- 41:44Speaker 1: this event pulling this girl Alice out of the water, Like,
- 41:48Speaker 1: this is where time travel gets real sticky for me,
- 41:51Speaker 1: right because it hadn't happened, but of course it had
- 41:54Speaker 1: already happened. Elliott remembers her. Yes, and Elliott says, don't worry,
- 41:59Speaker 1: Alice will find her way home. Yes. This is when
- 42:02Speaker 1: we now see Alice climbing up into the barn to
- 42:05Speaker 1: go talk to Elliott and she's like, I need your
- 42:07Speaker 1: help and he's like, what we've just met, what are
- 42:11Speaker 1: you talking about? And she's like, you got to trust me.
- 42:13Speaker 1: You told me you'd help me anytime, any place, and
- 42:16Speaker 1: you need to help me right now. The next scene
- 42:19Speaker 1: down by the water is playing over adult Elliott waiting
- 42:22Speaker 1: for Kat to return to the present day. Yeah. Yeah,
- 42:26Speaker 1: and now you have to wait a whole week for
- 42:27Speaker 1: another episode. I know, I was. There was part of
- 42:30Speaker 1: me that was like, oh my god, I wish this
- 42:32Speaker 1: was a two hour premiere. I wish I could binge
- 42:35Speaker 1: watch all of these like it hooked me, It hooked me,
- 42:38Speaker 1: good me too. We've definitely watched shows were at the
- 42:41Speaker 1: end you're like, mm, then I'll give it another one
- 42:43Speaker 1: or two to see if I get into it. I
- 42:45Speaker 1: did not feel like that at the end of the day.
- 42:46Speaker 1: We have a couple of recurring segments that we're going
- 42:48Speaker 1: to include in these episodes. I'm excited about these. First
- 42:51Speaker 1: is noticed in the nineties, Yes, ma'am. We don't spend
- 42:54Speaker 1: a lot of time in the nineties in this episode,
- 42:57Speaker 1: but I would say, what was the state out It
- 43:01Speaker 1: was the baby doll dress. Thousand percent. It was the
- 43:04Speaker 1: baby doll dress. We had to do a little googling.
- 43:08Speaker 1: I mean, I was in the nineties. I graduated high
- 43:10Speaker 1: school in nineteen ninety three. I remember wearing a baby
- 43:12Speaker 1: doll dress myself in nineteen ninety four around that time. Yeah,
- 43:17Speaker 1: so they're saying, this is nineteen ninety nine, and I
- 43:21Speaker 1: don't think the baby doll dress was that popular. No,
- 43:25Speaker 1: A little research told us that the baby doll dress
- 43:27Speaker 1: was a little more popular in the early part of
- 43:29Speaker 1: the century. But I will say as a fashion statement
- 43:33Speaker 1: of the nineties, I do think it's maybe the most
- 43:37Speaker 1: standout piece because a lot of what we have, you know,
- 43:41Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine. The look of nineteen eighty nine is
- 43:45Speaker 1: like black pants. Yeah. Anybody who was a young adult
- 43:48Speaker 1: nineteen ninety niney no knows what that means. What are
- 43:50Speaker 1: you wearing black pants? Yeah? And probably like big black
- 43:53Speaker 1: sandals with it too, uh huh. And a going out top.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Black pants and a cute top was an outfit, and
- 43:58Speaker 1: that's how you would describe it. But I don't think
- 44:00Speaker 1: that translates as well because on screen it just looks
- 44:03Speaker 1: like a very basic outfit, and I think a lot
- 44:06Speaker 1: of what else was popular at this time, you know,
- 44:08Speaker 1: like cropped tops and Adidas style sweatpands. I think the
- 44:14Speaker 1: baby doll dress is more of a look that communicates nineties.
- 44:19Speaker 1: I did think it was interesting, and I didn't talk
- 44:21Speaker 1: about this in that moment because I knew we were
- 44:23Speaker 1: coming to it. If you were going to borrow clothes
- 44:25Speaker 1: from someone, wouldn't it just be like it would get
- 44:29Speaker 1: a full outfit. But again, they were trying to make
- 44:33Speaker 1: that nineties statement. Next up, every week, we're going to
- 44:36Speaker 1: crown a homie of the Week. Homie of the Week.
- 44:39Speaker 1: During the premiere of this episode, Hallmark was like in
- 44:45Speaker 1: their Instagram stories trying to come up with a name
- 44:49Speaker 1: for their fans. Did you see any of it? I didn't,
- 44:53Speaker 1: But are they calling them homies? Homies was an option ponders,
- 44:58Speaker 1: no Vita feather ponderers, No, it was another and there
- 45:03Speaker 1: was one more Hallmark Channel unofficial poll for a name
- 45:07Speaker 1: for the way Home Hallmarkies, Homies, Ponders, ponderers, and Wade's
- 45:14Speaker 1: w a y d Ers with the double entendre there
- 45:17Speaker 1: because you wade into a pond. Yeah. I don't like
- 45:19Speaker 1: that one either. I mean, homies is a clear choice,
- 45:22Speaker 1: right A. Hallmark responds way Homies has also been suggested
- 45:25Speaker 1: Homies was the clear winner with fifty percent of the vote,
- 45:30Speaker 1: So we named this segment prior to the airing of
- 45:33Speaker 1: this episode. We're going with Homie of the Week. Yeah,
- 45:36Speaker 1: because I feel like there was so much set up
- 45:39Speaker 1: in this episode. I think there's there's potential for every
- 45:41Speaker 1: single person. But the person who grabbed us, Yeah, is
- 45:46Speaker 1: Jefferson Brown for his qt qutie smile? Dad Colton? Yeah, man,
- 45:50Speaker 1: he turned around seriously. I know, I know, I know.
- 45:54Speaker 1: I thought it was just me. I was like, am
- 45:56Speaker 1: I into old dudes. Oh dude, please my age. I
- 46:00Speaker 1: know in the episode he's the father of a teenager
- 46:05Speaker 1: and like an eight year old, so he's our age.
- 46:10Speaker 1: I know. I know. It's just weird. I'm in my
- 46:14Speaker 1: own weird time travel like I can't, you know. Yeah,
- 46:17Speaker 1: he's nice to look at. Yeah. Colton is our homie
- 46:22Speaker 1: of the week. That wraps up our recap of episode one,
- 46:25Speaker 1: the pilot episode, Mothers and Daughters of the Way Home.
- 46:30Speaker 1: We will be recapping The Way Home every Wednesday. We
- 46:34Speaker 1: believe we've got a ten episode season coming at us,
- 46:37Speaker 1: so prepare for that for the next ten weeks. Of course,
- 46:40Speaker 1: every Tuesday, you can listen to our Allmark movie reviews
- 46:46Speaker 1: way back next week with the Wedding Veil Journey and
- 46:49Speaker 1: episode two of The Way Home until it hopp into
- 46:51Speaker 1: our Facebook group Girls Gone Hallmark and let us know
- 46:54Speaker 1: what should think. Goodbye everybody, Bye st
