- 0:09Speaker 1: thousand dollars. Another word coming next hour.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Good morning, Chris, Good morning Greg. How are things over
- 0:16Speaker 2: there on the other side of the glass.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's good man, other than rain and my wife?
- 0:21Speaker 3: Did you see next Monday?
- 0:22Speaker 1: Though? Next Monday? Tell me tuesdays.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Act like that?
- 0:26Speaker 1: Okay? Tell me. I thought it wasn't supposed to rain
- 0:29Speaker 1: for ten days, so I watched my car.
- 0:31Speaker 3: This was the NFL season.
- 0:32Speaker 2: You'd be getting ready to write a story about pregaming
- 0:36Speaker 2: for or getting prepared for, let's say, the Rams next week.
- 0:39Speaker 3: So don't give me over next Monday. You didn't see
- 0:42Speaker 3: the weather? No eighty two degrees.
- 0:45Speaker 1: That feels like forever from now.
- 0:46Speaker 3: But okay, don't worry.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Greg.
- 0:48Speaker 3: By the time it's Friday, was like, whoa, I guess
- 0:49Speaker 3: we're closing the Monday.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Too in Seattle?
- 0:51Speaker 3: All right, yeah, well, let me look now, I probably
- 0:53Speaker 3: went mad a few degrees.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Why I washed the car yesterday because they said it
- 0:55Speaker 1: wasn't gonna rain for ten days and I wake up
- 0:57Speaker 1: this morning, my car's drenched like on it.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Yeah, like they usually.
- 1:01Speaker 1: If I was as bad at my job as whether
- 1:03Speaker 1: forecasters were, i'd been fired twenty decades ago.
- 1:05Speaker 2: When a they gonna make that automated where a robot
- 1:07Speaker 2: just goes out there and give the forecast, or they
- 1:09Speaker 2: all this AI.
- 1:10Speaker 1: It would be as accurate as I mean. I have
- 1:13Speaker 1: some friends in the meteorology business, and I know there's
- 1:16Speaker 1: millions of dollars spent on science at US. There used
- 1:18Speaker 1: to be until our government cut it. But there's science
- 1:21Speaker 1: toward forecasting. But man, their accuracy is just so low,
- 1:27Speaker 1: so low.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Yeah, it's tough, I guess in Seattle, especially.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Anywhere within a few places, and it just is wrong.
- 1:33Speaker 2: If they say it's going to be seventy five and
- 1:35Speaker 2: Sunday and it's like sixty nine and cloudy, I wouldn't
- 1:37Speaker 2: be too upset.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Oh, but rain or no rain, that's really all people
- 1:40Speaker 1: want to know.
- 1:41Speaker 3: But here I feel like I'm goanna be honest with you.
- 1:43Speaker 3: I've been a few places and it's like, Oh.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I grew up in Ohio, Chris, and I will tell
- 1:48Speaker 1: you that it's cloudier more days. A chance of rain
- 1:51Speaker 1: in Ohio than it is here.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Well, I have an update for you, Greg. Starting next Sunday,
- 1:56Speaker 2: we have one, two, three, four straight days of seventy
- 2:00Speaker 2: five or more. So it'll be seventy six on Sunday,
- 2:03Speaker 2: seventy seven Monday, seventy four on Tuesday, seventy five on Thursday.
- 2:08Speaker 2: So actually five days of seventy plus weather. That's a
- 2:11Speaker 2: great way to kick your bae off.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yeah, that's top down on the.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Mild ladies and gentlemen.
- 2:15Speaker 2: If you're like, oh, I need to do something, well,
- 2:18Speaker 2: those are your five days to get up and get out. Awesome,
- 2:22Speaker 2: I'm gonna do something. I'm gonna go running. I'm gonna
- 2:25Speaker 2: go walk in and then start talking to the wife
- 2:27Speaker 2: about hiking. Maybe going back to poop Poop point shop.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Might McDonald I heard he was up there a few
- 2:31Speaker 2: years back. But yeah, you're hang gliding when you could
- 2:33Speaker 2: do the top. I don't know about all that. It
- 2:36Speaker 2: sounds great until I'm in that little I forget. It's
- 2:38Speaker 2: a little like a damn near canoe or whatever you
- 2:41Speaker 2: wanna call it. I just I get a little, you know,
- 2:43Speaker 2: not cloustrophobic, but being you can go with someone you know,
- 2:46Speaker 2: that du Yeah, I'm aware, but I'm still scared, like one, oops,
- 2:49Speaker 2: hey man, we're going down?
- 2:50Speaker 3: What do you mean? Hey man, we're going down? I
- 2:52Speaker 3: don't know. Maybe I'm just too scary.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I jumped out of airplanes.
- 2:55Speaker 2: It's nothing that seems I would I would feel more
- 2:57Speaker 2: comfortable doing that.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Which, yeah, it was stat I must admit it's airborne.
- 3:01Speaker 1: It wasn't. It wasn't free free fall.
- 3:04Speaker 3: And guess who just texted back?
- 3:06Speaker 1: What are we gonna have at eleven o'clock?
- 3:08Speaker 3: Right, Gary Hill?
- 3:08Speaker 1: Gary Hill, he's locked in voice of the Mariners in Minneapolis,
- 3:11Speaker 1: going to join us eleven o'clock. Talk about the ms
- 3:13Speaker 1: who looked like they were on their way back a
- 3:14Speaker 1: four game sweep or three games sweeps usually at Saint Louis.
- 3:18Speaker 3: We're talking about the Mariners.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Should we just like brush past that the first twenty
- 3:22Speaker 2: minutes here, I'm sure people in the text line would agree, like,
- 3:25Speaker 2: don't even worry about it, guys.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It's fourteen and sixteen, end of April.
- 3:29Speaker 3: They just lost.
- 3:29Speaker 2: They got their butts beat yesterday, so you know, we
- 3:32Speaker 2: don't really talk about it.
- 3:33Speaker 3: The draft is more important.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Do we have a last Castillo?
- 3:35Speaker 4: Problem?
- 3:36Speaker 1: Is the Ra's above six seven runs hits seven runs
- 3:39Speaker 1: in five innings. They did have a chance to win.
- 3:40Speaker 2: They can I use the word that he'll be fine
- 3:42Speaker 2: or is it panic mode?
- 3:44Speaker 1: Yeah, i'd stays yellow, not even on the yellow.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Okay, yellow flag, yellow light.
- 3:50Speaker 1: That's fair, all right, mister NBA man. Last night, oh
- 3:53Speaker 1: I am in. I'm going to say a couple of
- 3:55Speaker 1: things here that people can go what I was. It
- 3:57Speaker 1: was about nine o'clock last night. I was in the
- 3:59Speaker 1: kitchen washing dishes. Yeah you yeah, yeah.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Did the wife cook?
- 4:02Speaker 1: Though? No, you cook? I cooked and watched it. My wife,
- 4:06Speaker 1: my poor ailing wife, is homesick today from work, which
- 4:09Speaker 1: never happened, ever happened the show. She's cal ripken. She
- 4:12Speaker 1: just doesn't miss well. Yeah, she may have to want
- 4:15Speaker 1: to listen to the show. She may be regretting that
- 4:17Speaker 1: decision right now. But I cooked inner, and I was
- 4:21Speaker 1: cleaning the dishes, and I'm in the In the other end,
- 4:24Speaker 1: my son, Eric, twenty two year old, is flipping to
- 4:28Speaker 1: the channels. He's watching the Stanley Cup playoff game, and
- 4:32Speaker 1: Salt Lake City is off the hook right now for
- 4:34Speaker 1: Utah Mammoth. They're just so loud in that building. He's
- 4:38Speaker 1: watching that, and he flips over to what I thought
- 4:41Speaker 1: was like Dunton Abbey or something that was so sedate
- 4:46Speaker 1: in theater or something. It was the NBA playoffs, And
- 4:51Speaker 1: I said, what was What did you just change it to?
- 4:53Speaker 1: It was so so quiet, And he only watches sports
- 4:57Speaker 1: like I do, mostly on television, so I knew he
- 4:59Speaker 1: was watching another game. He said, yeah, that was the
- 5:02Speaker 1: Minnesota Denver game. I said, justin, I yelled from the kitchen,
- 5:06Speaker 1: just in that thirty second snippet of two different scenes,
- 5:09Speaker 1: the intensity of the NHL in the Stanley Cup Playoffs
- 5:13Speaker 1: versus the intensity coming through the screen of the NBA playoffs. Chris,
- 5:16Speaker 1: it was like a preseason game atmosphere wise, and Denver's
- 5:21Speaker 1: fighting for their season. They had to win that game
- 5:24Speaker 1: last night.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Well, he was on the road yesterday.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Well they were home. Denver was home Yesterday's.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Right, they were home.
- 5:29Speaker 1: And it sounded like an October preseason game at Colorado Springs,
- 5:33Speaker 1: at the Air Force Academy or something. It was so quiet,
- 5:36Speaker 1: and I thought to myself, that, in a nutshell, encapsulates
- 5:39Speaker 1: what I've been trying to say for a couple of years.
- 5:42Speaker 1: The Stanley Cup playoffs. So I know you're an NBA guy,
- 5:44Speaker 1: but you gotta admit the intensity level in the NBA
- 5:47Speaker 1: playoffs just ain't.
- 5:48Speaker 3: There from the players or from the fans.
- 5:50Speaker 1: From anything. The atmosphere of the players, were their managers
- 5:55Speaker 1: there from the players in NUB one, Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 5:58Speaker 2: You look at that between even the Celtics and the Fixers,
- 6:03Speaker 2: like it's there. They're just overall Boston just a better team.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Not much you can do when you're a better team,
- 6:08Speaker 2: like you can show up and do everything right. The
- 6:10Speaker 2: really good series is actually what Orlando's doing because they're
- 6:13Speaker 2: playing physical ball and Detroit is kind of looking at
- 6:16Speaker 2: them and like, well, what's what's going on. Cunningham is
- 6:18Speaker 2: the best player on the court, but it don't matter
- 6:21Speaker 2: when you guy. When you have guys that can't shoot,
- 6:23Speaker 2: and Orlando's being physical, it's it's gonna be a dogfight.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Like it's very physical.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Like if you watch the entire game, you'll be like, oh, okay, now,
- 6:31Speaker 2: maybe the crowd wise, that's you know, that's different, but
- 6:34Speaker 2: in terms of how the players are taking it, oh yeah, it's.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:38Speaker 2: You're seeing stuff that you won't see in the regular season,
- 6:40Speaker 2: which people don't really like, which I understand. If you're
- 6:42Speaker 2: gonna pay money to go watch your favorite player and
- 6:45Speaker 2: they sit out or you're not seeing the effort like
- 6:47Speaker 2: that can definitely rub people the wrong way, and I
- 6:50Speaker 2: don't blame them, But when it gets to the playoffs,
- 6:52Speaker 2: like these these guys are the players specifically, Oh yeah,
- 6:55Speaker 2: it's all left on the court. Even Jokic last night,
- 6:57Speaker 2: Oh my god, triple double and when they needed him
- 7:01Speaker 2: to do it. Now, obviously you look at what's going
- 7:04Speaker 2: on in Minnesota. They lost Dante DiVincenzo with the torn
- 7:07Speaker 2: achilles and then Anthony Edwards awkward fall. He's gonna miss
- 7:12Speaker 2: this series, so backstore against the wall. But jaded McDaniels,
- 7:15Speaker 2: he didn't back down. He was still in those guys's
- 7:17Speaker 2: face and talking crazy and just being himself on the court.
- 7:20Speaker 2: And then Yoka, as I mentioned, he delivered, so Jamal Murray.
- 7:22Speaker 2: So the intensity for the players is definitely up up
- 7:26Speaker 2: a notch. But when you look at some of these
- 7:28Speaker 2: matchups like Portland versus the Spurs, they're gonna give it
- 7:31Speaker 2: all they got. But when alien, yeah, it's just not
- 7:35Speaker 2: much you can do. Same with hockey, had imagine like
- 7:37Speaker 2: there's just some rounds where it's just like, yeah, you're
- 7:39Speaker 2: gonna give it your all, but at the end of
- 7:41Speaker 2: the day, you're gonna lose this series.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Like that's just how it is.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Despite how physical it might be, the better team just
- 7:48Speaker 2: usually wins, except for Orlando because they are actually showcasing
- 7:52Speaker 2: something that I think is shocking a lot of people.
- 7:54Speaker 2: But it would be nice if I don't know, some
- 7:58Speaker 2: Detroit players can shoot the ball, but it pier Yeah.
- 8:00Speaker 1: A paper tiger. The young teams still up and coming
- 8:02Speaker 1: right there, Yeah, a year or two ahead.
- 8:05Speaker 2: When you have a regular season like you had and
- 8:07Speaker 2: you are dominant on the defensive end, and Kate Cunningham
- 8:11Speaker 2: is able to do all these things, that should translate.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Well, it's the number one seed. The Pistons the number
- 8:15Speaker 1: one see because half the league and the Celtics everybody
- 8:17Speaker 1: just coasting through the regular season and load management all
- 8:20Speaker 1: these other things.
- 8:20Speaker 2: They beat some good teams like they definitely earned it.
- 8:24Speaker 2: But it ain't clicking right now, and Orlando is actually
- 8:27Speaker 2: a team that has faltered because of injuries. They should
- 8:30Speaker 2: be dare I say a fifth or fourth or fifth seed,
- 8:34Speaker 2: But when you lose players throughout the regular season, it's inconsistent.
- 8:37Speaker 2: This is how you fall to the eighth. And now
- 8:39Speaker 2: you're like shocking the world that didn't get a chance
- 8:41Speaker 2: to see Orlando much just because we live on the
- 8:44Speaker 2: Pacific Northwest. Those games are at four o'clock. Who's really
- 8:48Speaker 2: watching NBA TV or the League pass?
- 8:51Speaker 1: Benkara's friends, all your day buddies are.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Probably So that's like a fraction there, you know, it's
- 8:55Speaker 2: a very small percentage. But even then, like are you
- 8:58Speaker 2: watching those games or are you just seeing the highlights?
- 9:00Speaker 2: They went through a lot this season, and they, like
- 9:02Speaker 2: I said, they shouldn't be an AFC, but they are,
- 9:04Speaker 2: and now you're seeing them.
- 9:06Speaker 3: They're about to probably win this series.
- 9:08Speaker 2: The last team that blew a three to one lead
- 9:11Speaker 2: was actually the Orlando Magic in two thousand and three
- 9:13Speaker 2: against the Oh Detroit Piston. So it's kind of like, oh,
- 9:15Speaker 2: my goodness, could this happen again? But I think Orlando's
- 9:18Speaker 2: probably gonnad up closing this out because I just think
- 9:20Speaker 2: right now they have better shooters and they're playing better defense,
- 9:24Speaker 2: and I think they're just bringing the physicality to another level.
- 9:27Speaker 2: And Detroit scratched the head like I thought we were
- 9:29Speaker 2: the number one season, like, yeah, but you just got
- 9:31Speaker 2: a bad matchup, Like Orlando's not a bad team, they
- 9:33Speaker 2: just had a bunch of crap go through the regular season.
- 9:35Speaker 2: But now they're all together as a unit and a
- 9:37Speaker 2: lot of their players are out playing the players on Detroit.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Told you he's an NBA guy. Those of you that
- 9:43Speaker 1: don't remember our show from twenty twenty four, here we
- 9:46Speaker 1: go back and forth this time of year about the
- 9:48Speaker 1: Stanley Cup Playoffs versus the NBA playoffs. I think the
- 9:51Speaker 1: Stanley Cup Playoffs are so far superior. I'm biased, but
- 9:55Speaker 1: I'm a hockey fan over an NBA fan. But going
- 9:57Speaker 1: into last night about competitiveness, twenty seven of the thirty
- 10:01Speaker 1: one playoff games had been decided within one goal or
- 10:04Speaker 1: because of an empty net goal at the end two
- 10:07Speaker 1: goals or so, but within one goal in the final
- 10:11Speaker 1: minute or so until empty net goals twenty seven of
- 10:13Speaker 1: thirty one. You don't have these one to thirty five
- 10:16Speaker 1: to ninety eight games in the nh Stanley Cup Playoffs.
- 10:21Speaker 1: It's the hardest trophy to winning sports, it's the most
- 10:22Speaker 1: revere trophy to winning sports, and it's just the it's
- 10:25Speaker 1: so and I've said this before if you haven't heard it,
- 10:28Speaker 1: if you heard it before, just humor me if we
- 10:31Speaker 1: If you're paying five hundred dollars a month for Comcast
- 10:33Speaker 1: cable here in Seattle, like I am stupidly and Chriss
- 10:37Speaker 1: Shak has had no way watch the CBC sports Net
- 10:41Speaker 1: broadcast of the Stanley Cup playoffs. It is so far
- 10:44Speaker 1: superior to the American broadcast. It's not even close. For
- 10:46Speaker 1: one thing, ESPN TNT seemed to turn down the arena sound.
- 10:52Speaker 1: It's it's muted somehow. On CBC sports Net it is blaring.
- 10:58Speaker 1: And they've got they got my microphones on the boards,
- 11:01Speaker 1: they got microphones in the benches. You can hear guys
- 11:03Speaker 1: barking into each other, the in between period stuff. I've
- 11:06Speaker 1: said this before. That panel and Kevin bix is tremendous.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Every time there's an intermission. I learned something from Kevin
- 11:13Speaker 1: Bixit and Kelly Rudy and Bottle and it's just it's
- 11:19Speaker 1: Elliott Friedman is on there. It's a it's just a
- 11:22Speaker 1: it's a really cool product. If you haven't watched the
- 11:24Speaker 1: Stanley Cup playoffs that way, and you're already paying for
- 11:26Speaker 1: the cable anyway, go to ninety nine cbut out of
- 11:29Speaker 1: Vancouver and watch the CBC Sports Net. Chris is just
- 11:32Speaker 1: tuned out to this conversation now, he's no, I'm listening.
- 11:34Speaker 3: I'm just making sure the YouTube channel is working, you know.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Oh hi YouTube, no tree today, I'll talk to there.
- 11:39Speaker 1: The tree is off to the side. You can't see
- 11:41Speaker 1: it anymore.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Well, you really can now that I look at you
- 11:43Speaker 3: on youtubeus.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Christmas Tree is gone because Draft miss is over. Chuck
- 11:46Speaker 1: is bumming about that, but we will talk tons more
- 11:49Speaker 1: about the NFL draft, including where the Seahawks are at safety. Anyway,
- 11:54Speaker 1: My point is Silic Cup playoffs are better than the
- 11:56Speaker 1: NBA playoffs, and watch it on CBC. The seahw safety
- 12:00Speaker 1: situation now that they've drafted Bud Clark. We talked to
- 12:03Speaker 1: Bud Clark's one of his position coaches at TCU yesterday,
- 12:06Speaker 1: Juice Broad, who was fantastic. We had a lot of feedback. Chris,
- 12:10Speaker 1: I don't know we got it posted online that we
- 12:12Speaker 1: don't have.
- 12:12Speaker 3: A podcast page for the show yet subset. Do we
- 12:15Speaker 3: on it on the website? I am not sure. I
- 12:18Speaker 3: tried to, but I know our podcast is available. The
- 12:21Speaker 3: podcast is out, so if you just type in Greg
- 12:23Speaker 3: bail Show. It comes right up. Two g's, by the way,
- 12:26Speaker 3: appreciate that, don't don't don't mess that up.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Three total. Remember my mom said I wasn't Gregor. She said,
- 12:30Speaker 1: name me Greg with two g's at the end. So
- 12:32Speaker 1: shout out there.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yes it's available podcast. It's probably not up on the
- 12:35Speaker 2: kJ R page. Hey, purple sheet. Greg would ask that
- 12:38Speaker 2: you get that up yesterday in case you're listening there.
- 12:42Speaker 1: We had. The reason I brought it up is that
- 12:43Speaker 1: we had people say, man, I missed that interview. I
- 12:46Speaker 1: cut the end of it. He sounded, Greg, we can't work.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Can get it again? Type in the Greg Belt Show,
- 12:52Speaker 1: Christopher Kidd and.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Type and all that.
- 12:55Speaker 2: You type in g R e gg it should come
- 12:59Speaker 2: right up right. Maybe with might get it in there too.
- 13:01Speaker 2: But once you type in gr e gig, I promise
- 13:05Speaker 2: you there's not too many Greg's out there with two Yeah.
- 13:06Speaker 1: That's true Forst Greg former Bengals coach. Anyway, what you're
- 13:11Speaker 1: going to hear a little bit of again. Next segment
- 13:14Speaker 1: about Juice Brown, the cornerback coach for TCU. He said,
- 13:18Speaker 1: the Seattle's in for a treat with Bud Clark, and
- 13:22Speaker 1: he is an off the wall, loud wolfing at the
- 13:25Speaker 1: offense guy. He sounds like Devin Witherspoon and McDonald loves that.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I'll tell you McDonald loves Devin Witherspoon loves him. Witherspoon
- 13:36Speaker 1: get cracks at him, calls him a nerd publicly to
- 13:39Speaker 1: us and teases him back and forth. McDonald loves him.
- 13:43Speaker 1: They're like, it's it's an odd couple. He's thirty eight,
- 13:47Speaker 1: Witherspoon's twenty two. Witherspoon from Florida, and McDonald was born
- 13:52Speaker 1: in New England, completely different backgrounds, and yet they they're
- 13:56Speaker 1: like best friends on the team. I can tell you that.
- 13:58Speaker 1: And if blud Clark is anything like Devin Witherspoon and Bravado,
- 14:04Speaker 1: McDonald's going to love him. To spice up the practices.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Here's another thing. Hard Knocks cameras are going to love him.
- 14:08Speaker 1: This summer. You're all going to get a chance to
- 14:11Speaker 1: see him live, well live but recorded on video with
- 14:15Speaker 1: NFL Films as cameras starting in August. The Seahawks, of course,
- 14:18Speaker 1: for the first time, we're going to be on the
- 14:19Speaker 1: Hard Knock series with NFL Films, and yeah, Devin Witherspoon
- 14:24Speaker 1: and what sounds like Bud Clark on top of the
- 14:27Speaker 1: Marcus Lawrence and Leonard Williams, and there's some characters that
- 14:30Speaker 1: a lot of the country don't know. They just know
- 14:33Speaker 1: him for their football. Haven't watched him in the playoffs
- 14:35Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl last year. Bud Clark sounds like
- 14:37Speaker 1: he's going to be adding to that entertainment. You're going
- 14:39Speaker 1: to hear from his position. Coach Juice Brown used to
- 14:43Speaker 1: be Caitlin de Bor's cornerback coach here at Washington and
- 14:46Speaker 1: udub before the war left for Alabama. We talked to
- 14:48Speaker 1: Juice Brown yesterday. You'll hear some of the snippets from that,
- 14:50Speaker 1: and then we'll talk about the actual Seahawks safety situation.
- 14:53Speaker 1: It looked like, Okay tyle Cott is going to be
- 14:56Speaker 1: the guy that replaces Kobe Bryant after Bryant left for Chicago,
- 15:00Speaker 1: big contract. Nah. Since then, they've made moves. We'll talk
- 15:04Speaker 1: about that, what moves they've made. And it's not just
- 15:07Speaker 1: they're going to hand tie crowd of the starting job.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I think the drafting of Bud Clark sixty fourth overall
- 15:12Speaker 1: shows that. We'll also talk about the undrafted free agents
- 15:17Speaker 1: rookie free agents the Seahawks have signed. Yeah, they didn't
- 15:20Speaker 1: draft any edge rushers, but they're already signed a couple
- 15:23Speaker 1: that they could have drafted in late rounds and just
- 15:25Speaker 1: decided to sign him as undrafted rookies. That's always the
- 15:28Speaker 1: weighing of do you sign him as a seventh round
- 15:30Speaker 1: pick you get him as an undrafted rookie. Well, there's
- 15:33Speaker 1: seven known signings of undrafted rookies and two of them
- 15:36Speaker 1: are edge rushers. In a third veteran edge rusher may
- 15:39Speaker 1: be coming in Dante Fowler. He is visited with the
- 15:42Speaker 1: Seahawks at Seahawks headquarters. Yesterday was the day that now
- 15:46Speaker 1: going forward, any veterans free agent signs do not count
- 15:50Speaker 1: against the compick formula for twenty twenty seven. So the
- 15:53Speaker 1: Seahawks can still hold on to their expected eleven picks,
- 15:56Speaker 1: seven in the original rounds and then four expected in
- 15:59Speaker 1: the comp pick because of losing Bryant and Walker and
- 16:03Speaker 1: Woolen at all. We'll talk all about that and what
- 16:07Speaker 1: that means, but as Mike McDonald says, this is a process.
- 16:10Speaker 1: The roster process and construction process is not nearly done,
- 16:13Speaker 1: so don't get too alarmed if you're a Seahawk fan
- 16:15Speaker 1: that they did not draft any addressers after losing boy
- 16:18Speaker 1: Mafe to free agency and having Derek call in the
- 16:21Speaker 1: final year of his contract. Cop Next, we'll break down
- 16:23Speaker 1: the Seahawks safety situation. We'll detail who they signed. It's
- 16:27Speaker 1: more than just Hyakatta obviously, and it's more than just
- 16:30Speaker 1: Bud Cark. Two. We'll talk about that next eleven o'clock.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Gary Hill Junior from Minneapolis on the Mariners from the
- 16:37Speaker 1: Mariners Broadcast booth in Minnesota. All that coming up on
- 16:40Speaker 1: ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 16:42Speaker 5: Now back to Greg Bell and Christopher Kidd on your
- 16:45Speaker 5: home for the Huskies, Kracket and the twelfth Man Sports
- 16:49Speaker 5: Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Welcome back, Greg Bell, the new distribute and Christopher Care
- 17:01Speaker 1: with you is we are every weekday from ten A
- 17:03Speaker 1: in the noon four one into KOMODADGS text line. People
- 17:06Speaker 1: are already saying, couldn't agree with you more. Greg, You're
- 17:08Speaker 1: spot on, So then they cut playoffs are better than
- 17:10Speaker 1: the NBA playoffs. Chris, you're getting out voted on the
- 17:13Speaker 1: text line so far.
- 17:14Speaker 3: That's okay.
- 17:15Speaker 1: I know you're unfazed by that. Four nine four to
- 17:19Speaker 1: five one. We'll read back your text and it's komadad
- 17:21Speaker 1: text on at eleven thirty. How do you feel about
- 17:24Speaker 1: the Seahawks safety situation? Would you like Tyle Cotta to start?
- 17:28Speaker 1: Do you think Bud Clark's just walking into the second round?
- 17:30Speaker 1: Picking me the instant starter four nine four to five one.
- 17:33Speaker 1: You worried about the loss of Kobe Bryant. What kind
- 17:36Speaker 1: of impact do you think that has on the Seahawks
- 17:38Speaker 1: number one rank defense in twenty twenty six. We'll read
- 17:41Speaker 1: back your text at eleven thirty something I didn't mention
- 17:44Speaker 1: in the headlines, and I'm just gonna mention it to
- 17:46Speaker 1: talk about Chris because you run a little bit. I
- 17:49Speaker 1: used to run until I blew my achilles out. Did
- 17:53Speaker 1: you know that the sub two hour?
- 17:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I've mari watched that. That was incredible.
- 17:58Speaker 1: It's unbelievable, isn't it?
- 18:00Speaker 3: And because it's funny.
- 18:01Speaker 2: When I was in high school, I used to hate
- 18:03Speaker 2: distance running, like didn't want to watch it, Like, who.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Was sid watch somebody runs the sixteen loop?
- 18:08Speaker 1: Stupid.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Now as I've gotten older, I actually enjoy being more active.
- 18:12Speaker 2: As I had a brief discussion with chuck about the
- 18:15Speaker 2: older you get, the less active you are, because when
- 18:17Speaker 2: you're in high school, you probably played two or three sports.
- 18:19Speaker 2: You had practice every day, so you know you're out
- 18:21Speaker 2: here looking really good, flexing the muscles.
- 18:23Speaker 3: You probably had an eight pac greg so all those things.
- 18:25Speaker 6: Like.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Well, then as you get older, you're like, oh.
- 18:28Speaker 2: It'd be nice if I went outside for a hike
- 18:31Speaker 2: once a week, and you just you just take for
- 18:33Speaker 2: granted those earlier days. And now I'm at a point
- 18:35Speaker 2: where I want to be able to run at least
- 18:37Speaker 2: three times a week. So and I enjoy the distance running,
- 18:41Speaker 2: Like I go to Seward if I don't play flag football,
- 18:43Speaker 2: I'm over at Seward running two laps and I'm timing
- 18:46Speaker 2: myself and like, oh, because I'm doing a five k
- 18:48Speaker 2: this weekend as well. So yeah, my wife, she's big
- 18:50Speaker 2: on running. And like I said, as I got older,
- 18:52Speaker 2: I have learned to respect and understand the long distance running.
- 18:57Speaker 3: As you're going to talk about the London, they.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Ran a marathon. Sebastian Saw of can Kenya. He won
- 19:04Speaker 1: the London Marathon in one hour, fifty nine minutes and
- 19:07Speaker 1: thirty seconds. No one had ever broken two hours before
- 19:10Speaker 1: and two dudes, did it the second place finish, sure Ethiopia,
- 19:14Speaker 1: as you meave Kajeka. He did it in one fifty
- 19:17Speaker 1: nine to forty one. In fact, the third place finish.
- 19:20Speaker 1: You're also breathed the previous record but didn't delips two hours.
- 19:23Speaker 1: But get this, man, it was a sunny sixty degree
- 19:27Speaker 1: day in London, or they probably called it fifteen degrees
- 19:29Speaker 1: or whatever over in London, and apparently it's a relatively
- 19:33Speaker 1: flat course. According to the Associated Press report, saw the
- 19:38Speaker 1: now new record holder of the sub two hour marathon.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Get this, he ran, Chris the last half, the thirteenth,
- 19:44Speaker 1: the last thirteen miles when you're a little tired, a little.
- 19:48Speaker 1: He ran that in fifty nine minutes. In one second,
- 19:51Speaker 1: he was moving. That's crazy, insane. Thirteen miles and fifty
- 19:55Speaker 1: nine minutes flat fifty nine oh one. I know a
- 19:58Speaker 1: lot of your runners out there, try that out. Try
- 20:01Speaker 1: to go with thirteen miles. Just do it flatted thirteen
- 20:04Speaker 1: and fifty nine oh one. Not do it after doing
- 20:07Speaker 1: thirteen miles previously. He did that after running thirteen miles
- 20:10Speaker 1: and then ran thirteen more at fifty nine oh one.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I was very impressed, Like I said, as I've
- 20:15Speaker 2: matured and understand the process of long distance running, I've
- 20:18Speaker 2: grown to respect it even more.
- 20:20Speaker 3: And like I said, I'm challenging myself to do.
- 20:22Speaker 1: It good way. You can't, man, Yeah, exactly. When I
- 20:25Speaker 1: nailed my achilles about a year and a half ago,
- 20:27Speaker 1: I can't run. I cannot. I feel it every single
- 20:29Speaker 1: time now. So yeah, no rehab that could yo. I
- 20:33Speaker 1: tried physical therapy. I tried shock treatment, shock wave.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Can they just give you a new leg if it
- 20:38Speaker 2: was cheap, if they could like find you a deal
- 20:40Speaker 2: like I know.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Even I do a lot of biking now, Okay, so
- 20:43Speaker 1: that's a sub I don't. I mean, despite some my
- 20:47Speaker 1: looks of I've gained some weight, I don't. I still
- 20:50Speaker 1: have active. I bike And yeah, my wife is hiker supreme.
- 20:54Speaker 1: She sounds like your wife and my wife should get together.
- 20:57Speaker 1: She said, I'm going on a hike. She left at
- 21:00Speaker 1: seven am, went out to the Olympic Coast or Olympic Peninsula,
- 21:04Speaker 1: and came back like dark. She was gone for thirteen hours.
- 21:07Speaker 1: And I know there's a fairy ride.
- 21:08Speaker 2: That's how you would be if you went and play golf.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Look at that she took me. Yes, exactly once we
- 21:15Speaker 2: had twins. No more, you're doing what hitting the ball
- 21:18Speaker 2: for five hours?
- 21:18Speaker 1: No, you're not.
- 21:21Speaker 4: No.
- 21:21Speaker 1: So we go on a hike in the middle fork
- 21:24Speaker 1: of the Snoqualmie River Valley and we go up to
- 21:28Speaker 1: Garfield Ledges and those of you in the area probably
- 21:31Speaker 1: know where that is. It's an overlook over the Snoqualmie
- 21:33Speaker 1: Valley River Valley, and then at the bottom of it,
- 21:36Speaker 1: we did along the river hike just because she didn't
- 21:39Speaker 1: want to just go to the ledges and back because
- 21:40Speaker 1: it was too short. And then I had to get
- 21:42Speaker 1: back because I was going to the kracking game that
- 21:44Speaker 1: night with my son, our son, and so we cut
- 21:47Speaker 1: the hike short. And she wanted to go out to
- 21:50Speaker 1: these hot springs and check them out, which is like
- 21:53Speaker 1: twelve miles one way, and to her that's just a hike.
- 21:57Speaker 1: To me, that's an adventure, right, So I broke off
- 22:00Speaker 1: the hike as we had to get back to the
- 22:02Speaker 1: krackt and I said, what did you think of the hike? Hunt?
- 22:04Speaker 1: It was like, we were gone for four hours. It's
- 22:06Speaker 1: pretty good, right, hiking for four hours? So well, it
- 22:09Speaker 1: was modified disappointingly like what I did the Enchantments with
- 22:15Speaker 1: her a year and a half ago. In the last
- 22:18Speaker 1: eight miles. It's a twenty mile hike in one day
- 22:21Speaker 1: up as guard passed, which is really called ass kick Pass.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Those of who have done the Enchantments, it's in one day.
- 22:26Speaker 1: You can't get it if you want to camp yet.
- 22:29Speaker 1: It's a lottery and it's always full, so you if
- 22:31Speaker 1: you want to hike it, you have to go do
- 22:32Speaker 1: it in one day and you can go two ways.
- 22:35Speaker 1: This is an icicle creek outside Leavenworth. I know there
- 22:38Speaker 1: are listeners who've done this, and I did it one
- 22:40Speaker 1: day and I thought, oh, I can do this. I
- 22:42Speaker 1: used to do eighty mile rock, eighty pound rucksack, fifteen
- 22:45Speaker 1: mile road marches in the Army. I'm good. Well, I
- 22:48Speaker 1: got shin splints about halfway after going up ask Kick Pass.
- 22:52Speaker 1: As guard pass you take one step forward and you
- 22:54Speaker 1: fall down two steps, and one step forward and fall
- 22:56Speaker 1: down two steps, like walking. Mount Saint Helen's is the
- 22:59Speaker 1: same way. We've done that. That's cool. By the way,
- 23:01Speaker 1: if you have a hike Mount Saint Helens, take your
- 23:03Speaker 1: wife up there. She'd love that anyway. The Enchantment she'd
- 23:07Speaker 1: love that too, But it's twenty miles. We left at
- 23:09Speaker 1: six am. We got back at like ten thirty. Because
- 23:12Speaker 1: of my chin splits, I was dragging my feet down
- 23:15Speaker 1: the last switch back to the last half of it.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Hats off to those of you who do enchantment. The
- 23:19Speaker 1: Enchantments are fun and a beautiful, beautiful hike. We live
- 23:22Speaker 1: in an absolutely awesome area. You can just hop in
- 23:24Speaker 1: your car twenty minutes. You're in world class hiking in
- 23:28Speaker 1: the Cascades, and then we have an ocean on the
- 23:30Speaker 1: other side an hour and a half or two away.
- 23:32Speaker 1: It's yeah, we're blessed. Get outside anyway, How do we
- 23:36Speaker 1: get on all that? We don't try to talk about
- 23:37Speaker 1: Seahawk safeties.
- 23:38Speaker 2: I don't know something about the Boston the other Boston, but.
- 23:41Speaker 3: The marathon running.
- 23:43Speaker 2: One of my rent talk about how much respect I
- 23:45Speaker 2: have for running in general.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:49Speaker 2: It used to be just a sprint guy. But now
- 23:51Speaker 2: I'm like, long distance pretty cool, you know.
- 23:53Speaker 3: I get it.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Seward Park. If you see Christopher Kid out there.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, fully clothed by the way, you know, it's
- 23:59Speaker 2: getting warm out. I start taking the shirts off. I'm like, fellas,
- 24:01Speaker 2: it's like barely seventy but come on, man, I need
- 24:05Speaker 2: to see you drenched his sweat before your shirts off.
- 24:07Speaker 3: It's not that hard, right right. Yeah.
- 24:09Speaker 1: We had Juice Brown, the cornerbacks coach at tc you
- 24:12Speaker 1: on with us yesterday talking about the Seahawks second round
- 24:14Speaker 1: pick Bud Clark, who he coached the last two years
- 24:17Speaker 1: in Fort Worth. And this is an idea what personality wise,
- 24:21Speaker 1: this is what his position coach says the Seahawks are
- 24:24Speaker 1: getting with Bud Clark. Juice Brown, the cornerback. Juice Brown,
- 24:28Speaker 1: the cornerback coach for TCU. He said, the Seattle's in
- 24:31Speaker 1: for a treat with Bud Clark and he isn't off
- 24:33Speaker 1: the wall.
- 24:35Speaker 3: I record over the audio that already sent with in
- 24:38Speaker 3: the world.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I'm all right, here we go. All right, Chris, got it,
- 24:42Speaker 1: Here we go. Juice Brown on Bud Clark.
- 24:45Speaker 6: When I first got here, I'm just watching him and
- 24:48Speaker 6: you know, you're new to the staff and you're just
- 24:49Speaker 6: trying to figure everybody out. And I'll see this guy
- 24:52Speaker 6: as he jabbing at the offense, he's talking and then
- 24:54Speaker 6: shoot when we go out the practice field. I mean,
- 24:57Speaker 6: you talk about a dude that practices, he doesn't take
- 25:00Speaker 6: days off and.
- 25:00Speaker 1: If it's the day.
- 25:01Speaker 6: But Clark isn't that practice. You know, he's really really
- 25:03Speaker 6: banged out, and so Seattle's in for a treat with him.
- 25:06Speaker 6: He gonna love to play, he gonna have energy when
- 25:09Speaker 6: he does it.
- 25:10Speaker 1: The crowd, the crowd, they gonna love him. When he says,
- 25:15Speaker 1: he just wolfs at him offense in a good way,
- 25:18Speaker 1: a positive way, and that is his personality. It didn't
- 25:23Speaker 1: come off as much as Julian neal personality of Bravado
- 25:27Speaker 1: to the media on the call after the draft, but
- 25:30Speaker 1: the coaches and scouts will tell you that Bud Clark
- 25:32Speaker 1: has it just as much as Julian Neil does. So
- 25:35Speaker 1: Kobe bryan Here's how it all went down. Kobe Bryant
- 25:38Speaker 1: signed with the Bears for forty million over three years
- 25:40Speaker 1: in March. We know that it appeared then the tyle
- 25:42Speaker 1: Katta was going to be the starter next to Julian
- 25:46Speaker 1: leven twenty twenty six, right, because Okata he excelled. He
- 25:48Speaker 1: really was good by the end of the season. He
- 25:51Speaker 1: started eleven games last year, most of them when Love
- 25:54Speaker 1: was injured with the hamstring for over a couple months.
- 25:57Speaker 1: But here's what's happened since Bryant left the Seahawks. Seattle
- 26:00Speaker 1: has signed Rodney Thomas. People are overlooking that signing. He
- 26:03Speaker 1: was a starting safety for the Colts two years ago.
- 26:07Speaker 1: The coaches in the Seahawks are really excited about Rodney Thomas.
- 26:11Speaker 1: He's a Yale at I think we've talked about this.
- 26:13Speaker 1: He is a quantitative science degree holder from Yale. He
- 26:17Speaker 1: knows analytics and the math part of football, probably more
- 26:21Speaker 1: than most people in the Seahawks building. He is going
- 26:25Speaker 1: to have a chance to play in a role to
- 26:28Speaker 1: be determined, and it could be a rotational role at
- 26:31Speaker 1: the safety position. They've also resigned AJ Finley. They really
- 26:34Speaker 1: liked Finley last year in the summer, and then he
- 26:36Speaker 1: had an injury that took him out for most of
- 26:38Speaker 1: the season and people forgot about him an undrafted rookie
- 26:41Speaker 1: free agent signing. But AJ Finley is back. They resigned
- 26:45Speaker 1: him of a restricted free agent deal. And now they've
- 26:48Speaker 1: added Bud Clark, so there's three options next to Okata.
- 26:52Speaker 1: So they're not just going to hand the job to Tylecotta.
- 26:54Speaker 1: As good as he was last year and they invested
- 26:56Speaker 1: a second round pick on it. Now they have a
- 26:58Speaker 1: guy in four year country at which, of course the
- 27:01Speaker 1: others don't have. There will be a competition, and that's
- 27:04Speaker 1: the way Mike McDonald. Any coach really wants it for
- 27:07Speaker 1: the top ranked defense. So who's going to be next
- 27:09Speaker 1: to Julian Love. This is what Mike McDonald, the head
- 27:13Speaker 1: coach of the Seahawks defensive Architects, said Saturday after the
- 27:15Speaker 1: end of the draft when we were asking him about
- 27:18Speaker 1: replacing Kobe Bryant.
- 27:19Speaker 4: I don't think we think through like in those terms
- 27:23Speaker 4: that were like, we're not trying to replace anybody. We're
- 27:25Speaker 4: just trying to find like the best.
- 27:27Speaker 1: People for us.
- 27:28Speaker 4: And Bud has like a really great, cool, exciting skill
- 27:30Speaker 4: set and personality competitive spirit to him. I mean, we're
- 27:34Speaker 4: not just gonna play.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Them at safety.
- 27:35Speaker 4: You can play Nickel, could probably play corner for us.
- 27:38Speaker 4: We'll figure that out kind of as we go and
- 27:39Speaker 4: how the team kind of shapes out. We got some
- 27:42Speaker 4: great players at safety two that are going to compete
- 27:45Speaker 4: me in Tayacotta.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Help win us a lot of games last year.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Rodney Thomas is a guy that we're really high on.
- 27:50Speaker 4: A lot of guys giving me a lot of great competition.
- 27:52Speaker 4: But Bud has the skill sets that we're looking for
- 27:55Speaker 4: in our secondary play with the competitiveness, the ball skills,
- 27:57Speaker 4: the mande mandability, that that type of stuff.
- 28:00Speaker 1: And there's the key. McDonald can play all kinds of
- 28:03Speaker 1: defenses if he has his type of guys in there.
- 28:06Speaker 1: He can play man the man with safety, which means
- 28:08Speaker 1: bringing the safety down into the slot, which means not
- 28:11Speaker 1: just having two post safeties in the back. You play
- 28:13Speaker 1: single high and you confuse the offense. I was listening
- 28:17Speaker 1: to a Monday night game a long time ten years
- 28:19Speaker 1: ago that Ross Tucker is going to be a regular
- 28:22Speaker 1: guest with Ian Ferness. Now, Ross Tucker Princeton educated, former
- 28:25Speaker 1: NFL player, and Ross Tucker really crystallized it for me
- 28:29Speaker 1: and ever since then, I thought of it through this
- 28:31Speaker 1: lens football, Through this lens, really offensive football is two
- 28:36Speaker 1: things at the line right at the snap before the
- 28:38Speaker 1: right before the snap. But the line of scrimman is
- 28:39Speaker 1: the quarterback and the offensive coordinator trying to discern ady
- 28:42Speaker 1: in single high coverage or too high coverage with safeties.
- 28:45Speaker 1: That's it, he said, That is the essence of offensive football.
- 28:49Speaker 1: You have a set of plays against single high and
- 28:52Speaker 1: you have a set of plays against two deep safeties.
- 28:54Speaker 1: The Tampa two that Tony Dungee and the Buccaneers won
- 28:57Speaker 1: a Super Bowl with way back in two thousand and
- 28:59Speaker 1: two against the Raiders used to cover the advent of
- 29:01Speaker 1: that with that was the Tampa two. In the variations
- 29:04Speaker 1: of two deep safety coverage that exists today, that's been
- 29:07Speaker 1: a now a quarter century of too deep coverage, but
- 29:10Speaker 1: single high coverage. Mike McDonald loves single high because he
- 29:14Speaker 1: can disguise it into too high. He can blitz, he
- 29:16Speaker 1: can have a run support safety down when teams try
- 29:19Speaker 1: to go countering his nickel and dime looks with runs.
- 29:22Speaker 1: That's what makes Nicky even Worries so great. He's listed
- 29:25Speaker 1: as a safety on the Seahawks roster, yet he's a linebacker.
- 29:29Speaker 1: He's a sam linebacker. He's an edge right. He was
- 29:31Speaker 1: a defensive end against the Vikings last year. He plays
- 29:34Speaker 1: everywhere nickel and it sounds like and the answer that
- 29:38Speaker 1: he gave about Bud Clark that he thinks the same
- 29:40Speaker 1: m Clark now not exactly as even Worry, but utilizing
- 29:44Speaker 1: him in varied ways is my point. If he can
- 29:47Speaker 1: play man coverage as a safety, Chris, that means you
- 29:50Speaker 1: can move him all over the place. You can have
- 29:53Speaker 1: him like a nickel alignment. You can have him head
- 29:55Speaker 1: up in the slot and you have then a single
- 29:57Speaker 1: high look. You could have him head up at the
- 29:59Speaker 1: slot the snap and then drop him in to the
- 30:02Speaker 1: two deep alignment. Wants to snap and he does that
- 30:04Speaker 1: all the time. He moves chameleon like defensing after the
- 30:08Speaker 1: snap to confuse the quarterback. And to me it sounds
- 30:12Speaker 1: like Bud Clark. They chose him one for the competitiveness
- 30:15Speaker 1: in the locker room culture that we talk about, but
- 30:17Speaker 1: also because of what he can do, varying him as
- 30:21Speaker 1: a chess piece on the field. This is also what
- 30:27Speaker 1: Julian or excuse me, Juice Brown, the secondary coach cornerback
- 30:31Speaker 1: coach for TCU, said yesterday about Bud Clark. He said it,
- 30:34Speaker 1: but as as competitive as they come, great balls, because
- 30:36Speaker 1: anticipates really well. He's so athletic, he's so fluid, he's fast.
- 30:39Speaker 1: We played him a free safety, but we could play
- 30:42Speaker 1: him anywhere. He also was in the slot. According to
- 30:44Speaker 1: the TCU quarnerbacks coach, he's going to talk to the
- 30:47Speaker 1: offense in a good way, in a competitive way. This
- 30:49Speaker 1: guy's always jabbing at the offense. You heard him say,
- 30:52Speaker 1: Seattle's in a real treat with him. A lot of players,
- 30:54Speaker 1: he said, opted out of the bowl game they played
- 30:56Speaker 1: against usc usc bowl game last year. Half a us
- 31:00Speaker 1: CES roster didn't go, just skipped it. Bud Clark played
- 31:03Speaker 1: every snap he knew he was going to be drafted,
- 31:06Speaker 1: and his position coach Juice Brown yesterday said, here's a
- 31:10Speaker 1: second round pick in the NFL that played every snap
- 31:12Speaker 1: in the bowl game that he didn't have to play.
- 31:14Speaker 1: He also said he had a lot of suitors after
- 31:16Speaker 1: his junior year at TCU to transfer in nil money,
- 31:20Speaker 1: and he stayed. He stayed out all six years of
- 31:22Speaker 1: his college career at TCU. I'm telling you, Juice Brown said,
- 31:27Speaker 1: of Bud Clark, the Seahawks second round pick, He's going
- 31:29Speaker 1: to be running around, bouncing off the walls. I'm telling
- 31:31Speaker 1: he he never gets tired. That's who you have as
- 31:34Speaker 1: your second round pick. Well, everybody else has given a
- 31:36Speaker 1: lot of attention to Jadarian Price, and this, everly Sotle
- 31:39Speaker 1: is the first round pick. Sounds like there's a lot
- 31:41Speaker 1: for the Seahawks to look forward to with the second
- 31:43Speaker 1: round pick Bud Clark. We're helping to have the third
- 31:45Speaker 1: round pick. Julian Neil's college coach on the air perhaps tomorrow.
- 31:49Speaker 1: He played at Arkansas after three years at Fresno State.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Today eleven o'clock, you're gonna hear from Mariners Gary Hill
- 31:56Speaker 1: Junior out of the Mariners broadcast booth in Minneapolis. He'll
- 31:59Speaker 1: join us next whom the Seahawks have signed, has undrafted
- 32:02Speaker 1: rookie free agents for the rookie mini camp this week.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Onto the ninety man roster. That's next on ninety three
- 32:07Speaker 1: point three KJRFM. This morning the News Tribune and Neewstribune
- 32:10Speaker 1: dot com. I posted a story about the competitor scale
- 32:13Speaker 1: we talked about yesterday that John Schneider used to draft
- 32:17Speaker 1: the Seahawks. The a Seahawks eight man draft class is
- 32:20Speaker 1: based on a competitor scale. Yes, self efficacy is one
- 32:25Speaker 1: of the ingredients to the competitors scale that John Schneider
- 32:28Speaker 1: used to evaluate draft prospects this year. Why he doesn't
- 32:32Speaker 1: want guys to come in in awe of Super Bowl
- 32:34Speaker 1: champions when as they did ten years ago, twelve years ago,
- 32:37Speaker 1: after the Seahawks won the Super Bowl at the end
- 32:39Speaker 1: of the twenty thirteen season, he brought in what he
- 32:42Speaker 1: said were guys who were in awe of Richard Sherman, Camp, Chancellor,
- 32:46Speaker 1: Earl Thomas, Michael Bennett, Cliff Favril, and the competition in practices,
- 32:52Speaker 1: and the whole team suffered because of it. And to
- 32:55Speaker 1: hear Snyder tell it, it was one of the reasons
- 32:57Speaker 1: that they dipped and didn't go back to the Super
- 32:59Speaker 1: Bowl for eleven years. And so this year the draft
- 33:02Speaker 1: was out of the prism of competitiveness and they drafted
- 33:05Speaker 1: on a competitors. They actually assigned a number to these
- 33:07Speaker 1: guys Jedarion Price, Bud Clark, julian Neale. They have both Stevens.
- 33:11Speaker 1: They have a number assigned to them on the competitive
- 33:14Speaker 1: competitor scale. And they were highly rated, obviously, which is
- 33:18Speaker 1: why they were their first four picks in the draft. Heck,
- 33:20Speaker 1: they traded back into the fifth round. They traded a
- 33:23Speaker 1: pick from next year's stash, a fourth round pick to
- 33:26Speaker 1: take both Stevens, the All American guard from Iowa, because
- 33:29Speaker 1: of his competitiveness, because they didn't want wallflowers just an
- 33:33Speaker 1: on and gawking at the Super Bowl. Champions are going
- 33:36Speaker 1: to be practicing West starting in mini camps next month.
- 33:40Speaker 1: So that's at the News Tribune dot Com that I
- 33:42Speaker 1: found it very fascinating. That's not something I mean when
- 33:45Speaker 1: you try to explain what the Seahawks do and the
- 33:47Speaker 1: draft board, that's proprietory information. It's competitor scale. Nobody know
- 33:52Speaker 1: Daniel Jeremiah's or milk Kiper's or anybody assessing that for
- 33:56Speaker 1: the Seahawks off a game film also this week to
- 34:00Speaker 1: have a rookie mini camp on the field are going
- 34:02Speaker 1: to be their new free agent rookie free agent signings
- 34:04Speaker 1: they've signed since the draft ended on Saturday. They're now
- 34:08Speaker 1: seven reported signings. There's room to sign eight. The Seahawks
- 34:11Speaker 1: have ninety one men technically on the roster because Frederica
- 34:14Speaker 1: Morange is a center counts as an international allotment. He
- 34:18Speaker 1: was there last year, he's coming back this year and
- 34:20Speaker 1: because he's an international player in the international development program
- 34:23Speaker 1: for the NFL allows the Seahawks to have an extra
- 34:25Speaker 1: player on the roster, so they actually have ninety one.
- 34:28Speaker 1: So they have eight remaining spots after releasing Cam Akers yesterday,
- 34:33Speaker 1: the veteran running back. Here's who the Seahawks have signed
- 34:35Speaker 1: as undrafted free agents udfa's as they're called. Levi Wentz,
- 34:40Speaker 1: a wide receiver from Kansas. Aiden Hubbard, the edge from Northwestern.
- 34:43Speaker 1: I talked about him. He had seven and a half
- 34:45Speaker 1: sacks in a Big Ten last year. Michael Briscoe, wide
- 34:48Speaker 1: receiver from cal Poly. Sayesa Omalo from Kansas State. He's
- 34:51Speaker 1: a three hundred and forty five pound nose tackle. Lance
- 34:54Speaker 1: Mason tight end from Wisconsin. Devin Deal linebacker from TCU
- 34:59Speaker 1: where second round pick Bug Clark went to and then added.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Since we talked about this yesterday, became known and actually
- 35:06Speaker 1: I believe Oklahoma's football team publicized this. Marvin Jones, junior
- 35:10Speaker 1: and edge from Oklahoma. He's played for Georgia, Florida STATEU.
- 35:15Speaker 1: He's a former five star recruit to UGA prototype size
- 35:21Speaker 1: for an NFL ddresser six five, two forty five. I
- 35:24Speaker 1: mean that sounds like he's right out of Central casting
- 35:27Speaker 1: and speed. He's a son of Marvin Jones, a Florida
- 35:30Speaker 1: State All American who then played ten NFL seasons. He
- 35:33Speaker 1: just hasn't had the productivity to match his physical skills,
- 35:37Speaker 1: which is why he didn't get drafted. And the way
- 35:40Speaker 1: this works is as soon as the draft ends, Chris,
- 35:42Speaker 1: I think you know this, but some of our listeners
- 35:44Speaker 1: might know this, not even as soon as the draft
- 35:47Speaker 1: and before it ends. I mean at the start of
- 35:49Speaker 1: Saturday and Friday night. Actually, John Schneider was talking about
- 35:52Speaker 1: how they were already preparing to sign their undrafted free
- 35:55Speaker 1: agents and they have to put in a recruiting pitch
- 35:57Speaker 1: and a sales pitch. It's two things. The recruiting pitch
- 36:00Speaker 1: about the Seattle culture, and it's a little easier when
- 36:02Speaker 1: you're the Super Bowl champs. Come to join the Super
- 36:04Speaker 1: Bowl champs. That's the sales pitch, right, But you also
- 36:06Speaker 1: have a business side. We'll give you a ten thousand
- 36:09Speaker 1: dollars signing bills. We'll give you a thirty thousand dollars
- 36:11Speaker 1: signing bulls. That's done the very high side. We'll give
- 36:15Speaker 1: you a five thousand dollars signing bonus, whatever. And then
- 36:17Speaker 1: if you stick, you get a rookie contract at the
- 36:20Speaker 1: minimum salary. Mostly now, Sometimes if you really want and
- 36:23Speaker 1: they're in a derby with other teams to sign an
- 36:26Speaker 1: undrafted rookie free agent, you end up offering them a
- 36:29Speaker 1: guaranteed rookie contract, and that's rare. But if you have
- 36:33Speaker 1: spots on your roster that you anticipate will stay open
- 36:35Speaker 1: into the training camp for a UDFA. You could offer
- 36:39Speaker 1: him a guaranteed deal. That's unusual, but it has happened.
- 36:44Speaker 1: No word yet on any of these guys whether they
- 36:46Speaker 1: have that, and I would doubt a Super Bowl champion
- 36:47Speaker 1: I would have too many guaranteed UDFA deals assuring them
- 36:51Speaker 1: of roster spots on a competitive team like this, especially
- 36:54Speaker 1: whether it has twenty one of twenty two returning starters.
- 36:57Speaker 1: But anyway, so tho's your two edges. Aiden Hubbard seven
- 37:00Speaker 1: and a half sacks for Northwestern in the Big Ten
- 37:02Speaker 1: last year. Some people, the scouts on him say, well,
- 37:06Speaker 1: he's not bendy, he's not flexible for his size. He's
- 37:10Speaker 1: got productivity though, And Marvin Jones Junior, the edge from
- 37:14Speaker 1: Oklahoma six five two forty five. They'll be on the
- 37:18Speaker 1: field at Seahawks headquarters this weekend for the three day
- 37:21Speaker 1: rookie mini camp that they have. Still their veterans are
- 37:24Speaker 1: still in the first phase of OTAs and they won't
- 37:26Speaker 1: be out there. They are also Jake Getzlaf, the former
- 37:31Speaker 1: BYU Than Tulane quarterback I learned confirm that he is
- 37:35Speaker 1: going to be invited as a tryout player really a camp,
- 37:38Speaker 1: a rookie camp mini camp arm with a chance to
- 37:41Speaker 1: impress and potentially get signed out of that. They do
- 37:44Speaker 1: sign a couple guys a year out of the rookie
- 37:46Speaker 1: mini camp tryout guys who then get rookie free agent contracts,
- 37:51Speaker 1: and this will be flexed. So the seven or eight
- 37:53Speaker 1: guys they've signed already for this week probably all won't
- 37:57Speaker 1: stick on their way into training camp, and so so
- 38:00Speaker 1: it goes. The roster turn continues, and again Dante Fowler
- 38:03Speaker 1: has visited the Seahawks. A veteran edge rushers played out
- 38:05Speaker 1: about a decade in the NFL. He's out there in
- 38:08Speaker 1: their back pocket as someone they could now sign. Because
- 38:11Speaker 1: the COMPIC formula for veteran free agents ended yesterday, any
- 38:14Speaker 1: free agent signed after yesterday does not count toward the
- 38:18Speaker 1: COMPIC formula for next year. The Seahawks anticipating to have
- 38:21Speaker 1: four for having lost their free agents this offseason, which
- 38:24Speaker 1: would give them eleven total picks in what they consider
- 38:27Speaker 1: to be a much stronger draft next year. All might say.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Our coverage at the News Tribune Dot commune to go there
- 38:32Speaker 1: right now. Also subscribe if you went for ninety nine
- 38:35Speaker 1: cents for one month. That's a pretty good deal. That
- 38:37Speaker 1: comes down to what three cents of thirty cents a day,
- 38:43Speaker 1: not even thirty days for ninety nine cents. That's pretty good.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Sportswrider math Up next from Minnesota, we're in Top Mariners,
- 38:50Speaker 1: Gary Hill Junior, good friend of ours Mariners broadcaster I
- 38:54Speaker 1: saw Rick Rizz is going to be on Ian Farnessa's
- 38:56Speaker 1: show later today, so we're going to have the whole
- 38:57Speaker 1: broadcast team covered a radio side anyway, we'll talking Marinis
- 39:01Speaker 1: from the Twin Cities next. Ninety three point three kJ
