Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch, to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party. The bridge to get you from one full
- 0:37Speaker 1: episode or Disgraceland to the other. The backyard to dig
- 0:40Speaker 1: into the dirt, our mission to uncover the truth, to
- 0:43Speaker 1: confront the myth, to reclaim the story. On this bonus episode,
- 0:47Speaker 1: we are talking about this week's full episode subject Motorhead.
- 0:51Speaker 1: We're rewinding back to our Willie Nelson episodes, previewing our
- 0:55Speaker 1: upcoming episode on Kendrick Lamar, and we get into your voicemails, texts, dms,
- 1:00Speaker 1: and as always a whole lot of rosy. This is
- 1:03Speaker 1: the podcast for the musically obsessed, the outsiders, the independent
- 1:06Speaker 1: diggers who know that the best history is the history
- 1:09Speaker 1: that gets buried. Disgraceland is where I tell the stories
- 1:12Speaker 1: they didn't want told, the kind you'll end up telling
- 1:14Speaker 1: someone else. All right, disc goes, let's get into it.
- 1:31Speaker 1: So when I was growing up, real little elementary school
- 1:34Speaker 1: early eighties, nineteen eighty three, to be precise, I lived
- 1:38Speaker 1: across the street from a Seventh Day Adventist church. It
- 1:43Speaker 1: was in Lancaster, Massachusetts. It was before I moved to
- 1:45Speaker 1: Clinton with my family, and we lived sort of in
- 1:48Speaker 1: the footprint of the Adventist church, the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
- 1:52Speaker 1: There was the church, but there was also like a
- 1:54Speaker 1: fairground or a campus. I'm not even exactly sure what
- 1:57Speaker 1: it was. Yeah, it was campus. Atlantic Union College was nearby,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and we kind of lived right in the middle of
- 2:02Speaker 1: all that. The church, though, was literally across the street
- 2:06Speaker 1: from our front door. And I remember this distinctly. One morning,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I was in my front yard, which was like a
- 2:12Speaker 1: postage stamp front yard, very very small front yard, and
- 2:16Speaker 1: across the street a blue camaro pulled up and about
- 2:21Speaker 1: four or five metal heads got out of that camaro
- 2:24Speaker 1: and they started to hang out in the front let's
- 2:27Speaker 1: call it a yard of the church. There was a
- 2:29Speaker 1: cement wall and it kind of jetted out from the
- 2:33Speaker 1: front yard of the church out to the street a
- 2:36Speaker 1: little bit, and there were some big, big trees there,
- 2:39Speaker 1: and they pulled right up these metal heads. They popped out.
- 2:42Speaker 1: They were blasting Ozzy Osbourne. I remember it distinctly. I
- 2:46Speaker 1: remember knowing who Ozzy Osbourne was at the time, I
- 2:49Speaker 1: remember the myths about Ozzy Osbourne, and I remember being
- 2:52Speaker 1: a little freaked out, probably a lot freaked out. I
- 2:55Speaker 1: was at this point. Like I said, it was nineteen
- 2:57Speaker 1: eighty three, I was in the third grade, and I
- 2:59Speaker 1: was actually very freaked out by Ozzy Osbourne. This was
- 3:02Speaker 1: bark at the Moon era. So this is the height
- 3:05Speaker 1: of kind of all of the kind of the height
- 3:08Speaker 1: of the Ozzy Osbourne rumor mill that was spreading around
- 3:12Speaker 1: schools about biting off the heads of animals and all that.
- 3:14Speaker 1: And I'll never forget this. One of the metal heads,
- 3:17Speaker 1: the one driving the car, got out of the camaro,
- 3:20Speaker 1: and they walked up to that front part of the
- 3:23Speaker 1: church that jetted out, and they got up on the
- 3:25Speaker 1: cement wall, and they got up onto the grass above it,
- 3:28Speaker 1: by the big trees, and they had a huge wooden cross.
- 3:33Speaker 1: They nailed it into the tree, kept Ozzie blaring, and
- 3:37Speaker 1: just proceeded to hang out. I don't know if they
- 3:40Speaker 1: were drinking beers, smoking weed. I certainly thought they were
- 3:43Speaker 1: doing all manner of that in my memory, I might
- 3:46Speaker 1: be remembering it differently, but I swear the cross that
- 3:49Speaker 1: they nailed into that tree, they hung it up and
- 3:51Speaker 1: it was upside down. Though I can't vouch for that.
- 3:53Speaker 1: That seems a little bit extreme, So let's just say
- 3:56Speaker 1: they nailed the cross into the tree that I remember.
- 4:00Speaker 1: You got to keep in mind what these metal heads
- 4:02Speaker 1: were like. This was the nineteen eighty three version of
- 4:05Speaker 1: a metal head, which was similar to Oh, if you've
- 4:09Speaker 1: ever seen that great movie Over the Edge, Matt Dylan's
- 4:13Speaker 1: first movie, and these it's not really about metal heads,
- 4:16Speaker 1: but that was kind of the kids in that movie,
- 4:18Speaker 1: that Matt Dylan movie, Over the Edge. I believe the director,
- 4:20Speaker 1: Jonathan Caplan, I believe he just died a couple of
- 4:22Speaker 1: weeks ago. Fantastic movie I wrote about Over the Edge
- 4:25Speaker 1: of my book pertaining to juvenile delinquency and Axel Rose.
- 4:29Speaker 1: These kids were badass, is my point. And again, the
- 4:33Speaker 1: nineteen eighty three version of Badass, which was different than
- 4:37Speaker 1: the nineteen ninety three suburban version of Badass. I was scared,
- 4:42Speaker 1: full stop. These guys scared the hell out of it.
- 4:46Speaker 1: If you need another film reference, just think Kelly Leak
- 4:49Speaker 1: from Bad News Bears, think about five of those dudes, okay,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and again Ozzy Osbourne playing in the background, blaring. This
- 4:57Speaker 1: is one of my first introductions to Ozzie Osbourne musically, culturally.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Like I said, i'd heard of him. I don't remember
- 5:03Speaker 1: exactly how heard, the myths, the rumors, all that, but
- 5:06Speaker 1: this was it in real life. And this was my
- 5:09Speaker 1: own little kind of mini personal satanic panic of holy shit,
- 5:14Speaker 1: these guys are real and they're right here across the
- 5:17Speaker 1: street from my house, and they're nailing in crosses and
- 5:21Speaker 1: they're probably gonna fucking kill me. I didn't know what
- 5:24Speaker 1: was going on. I just knew it was nuts. And
- 5:26Speaker 1: these guys, like I said, were badass. Now, speaking of badass,
- 5:30Speaker 1: modern day badass, Ozzy Osbourne grew into an entirely different
- 5:35Speaker 1: caricature over the course of his life. He was, he
- 5:38Speaker 1: was lovable, he was not. I mean, I mean, he's
- 5:41Speaker 1: always badass, but you know what I'm saying, it wasn't
- 5:43Speaker 1: in the end, he wasn't scary. His wife, Sharon Osbourne,
- 5:47Speaker 1: on the other hand, completely different story. Now, I have
- 5:50Speaker 1: nothing but respect for Sharon Osbourne. You can hear that
- 5:54Speaker 1: in the Ozzy Osbourne episode of Disgraceland that we that
- 5:56Speaker 1: we produced and released a couple of years ago. But
- 5:59Speaker 1: make no miss about it, you did not fuck with
- 6:02Speaker 1: Sharon Osborne and you still don't. And the idea of
- 6:06Speaker 1: covering Sharon Osborne exclusively in an episode of Disgraceland, it
- 6:10Speaker 1: never occurred to me until now, until after Ozzie's death
- 6:14Speaker 1: in these past few weeks, Sharon Osborne by any definition,
- 6:18Speaker 1: is a music industry badass. Since her husband's death, a
- 6:21Speaker 1: lot of people have said a lot of things about
- 6:23Speaker 1: the Osborne's and there's this wild rumor percolating this week.
- 6:28Speaker 1: You know, we had this issue where there was this
- 6:31Speaker 1: BBC documentary that was supposed to air. It was supposed
- 6:34Speaker 1: to air a couple days ago. I'm recording this on
- 6:36Speaker 1: August twentieth, and then right before it was going to air,
- 6:40Speaker 1: like that day there might have been the day just
- 6:42Speaker 1: before it was, the BBC pulled it and they didn't
- 6:45Speaker 1: really give an explanation when they pulled it. They came
- 6:47Speaker 1: out about twenty four hours later and they said that
- 6:50Speaker 1: they pulled it at the behest of the family. The
- 6:52Speaker 1: family recommended, the Osborne's recommended that this documentary on Ozzy
- 6:56Speaker 1: did not air, So there's been, like I said, wild
- 7:01Speaker 1: rumors about why this documentary did not air. Reddit lit
- 7:05Speaker 1: up with ridiculous conjecture about Ozzy being canceled sometime in
- 7:09Speaker 1: the near future for sexual indiscretions from his past, which,
- 7:13Speaker 1: as someone who's done a fair amount of research on
- 7:16Speaker 1: the so called Prince of Darkness, these these are hot
- 7:19Speaker 1: to me anyways, highly dubious allegations. I'm confident saying that
- 7:23Speaker 1: I don't believe that these allegations about Ozzy being canceled
- 7:26Speaker 1: and some sort of me too thing, it's nothing but
- 7:29Speaker 1: trully Internet rumors. And this is what happens when a
- 7:35Speaker 1: dude as legendary as Ozzy Osbourne dies. The vultures start
- 7:39Speaker 1: circling the truth. It gets buried and the myth, well,
- 7:44Speaker 1: the myth can sometimes become a weapon. And you know
- 7:47Speaker 1: what I've been saying around here this is, you know,
- 7:49Speaker 1: nothing's getting buried here in disgrace, and we're here to
- 7:51Speaker 1: dig things up and ideally the truth and the truth
- 7:54Speaker 1: doesn't necessarily mean scandal, The truth doesn't necessarily mean rumors.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Sometimes the truth is just boring, but sometimes it's fucking
- 8:00Speaker 1: batchit crazy.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Now.
- 8:02Speaker 1: One of the rumors that's popped up in the wake
- 8:03Speaker 1: of Ozzie's death and I want to get to I
- 8:05Speaker 1: want to get to the truth of the matter on
- 8:07Speaker 1: is that his wife, Sharon, who was also his fearsome
- 8:11Speaker 1: music manager, was allegedly party to an assisted suicide pact
- 8:16Speaker 1: with Ozzy, and this pact was carried out allegedly to
- 8:22Speaker 1: end her husband suffering from Parkinson's disease. Sharon Osbourne hasn't
- 8:27Speaker 1: commented on these rumors since Ozzie's death, but her daughter
- 8:30Speaker 1: Kelly did comment on this supposed pack just prior to
- 8:34Speaker 1: Ozzie dying, And now in a dark corner of the Internet,
- 8:37Speaker 1: we're seeing suggestions that this is all somehow tied to
- 8:40Speaker 1: the cancelation of this BBC documentary. So where Ozzy Osbourne
- 8:46Speaker 1: and Sharon Osbourne in a suicide pact? Was it euthanasia
- 8:50Speaker 1: that did Ozzy Osbourne in? Finally, at the end, Zeth
- 8:55Speaker 1: and I are going to go down the rabbit hole
- 8:57Speaker 1: on this story and into Sharon Osbourne's ruthless pat as
- 9:00Speaker 1: a music manager, a past with allegations that she stole
- 9:04Speaker 1: Ozzy's master tapes from Jet Records, allegations that she once
- 9:09Speaker 1: told Arrival she would bury him and his fucking kids,
- 9:13Speaker 1: and how she completely sabotaged and this is an allegation,
- 9:16Speaker 1: this is confirmed, how she sabotaged Iron Maiden on stage
- 9:21Speaker 1: for once fucking with her husband, with messing with Ozzie.
- 9:24Speaker 1: You can hear Zeth and I in this rabbit hole
- 9:27Speaker 1: in the exclusive section of this year After Party bonus episode,
- 9:30Speaker 1: the Truth behind Ozzie, Sharon and the supposed suicide pack.
- 9:34Speaker 1: It is murky, okay. There's a quote in Sharon's own
- 9:37Speaker 1: memoir that is pretty informative, her daughter Kelly. She's been
- 9:41Speaker 1: very public and being out there and denying this suicide pack.
- 9:46Speaker 1: There's again the BBC documentary poll that I mentioned, and
- 9:50Speaker 1: then there's some reports from the paramedics there at the
- 9:54Speaker 1: end with Ozzy that they inform I believe the truth
- 9:58Speaker 1: of this whole thing. We're going to get to the
- 10:00Speaker 1: in the exclusive section here of the After Party what
- 10:02Speaker 1: I'm now calling the exclusive rabbit hole where Zeth and
- 10:06Speaker 1: I are gonna dive in. I think we're gonna do
- 10:08Speaker 1: this every week. We're gonna try it today, see what happens,
- 10:11Speaker 1: See if we like it, See if you guys like it.
- 10:13Speaker 1: More importantly, we're gonna dive into Sharon Osbourne, her violent
- 10:16Speaker 1: family legacy, her business tactics that have been called quote
- 10:19Speaker 1: unquote ruthless, and what these euthanasia rumors really tell us
- 10:23Speaker 1: about fame, death and control. If you've ever wondered how
- 10:27Speaker 1: far someone will go to protect not just their family,
- 10:31Speaker 1: but to protect the mythology around rockstardom, this might be
- 10:36Speaker 1: that story. Go to Disgrace slamdpod dot com, slash membership
- 10:39Speaker 1: and join us in today's exclusive after party rabbit Hole

- 10:53Speaker 1: signing up for a while, you haven't pulled the trigger.

- 11:06Speaker 1: just about Ozzy Osbourne. This is about how stories get
- 11:09Speaker 1: told this is about how stories get buried. This is
- 11:11Speaker 1: about what's true what's not. And if you're listening to this,
- 11:14Speaker 1: then you know you are one of us. You listen
- 11:16Speaker 1: to Disgraceland and you know things, So do not sit

- 11:21Speaker 1: after this with your voicemails, your texts, your dms and more.
- 11:44Speaker 1: All right, we are back, guys this week in Disgrace Sland.
- 11:47Speaker 1: New episode on Motorhead. All right, check that out. It's
- 11:51Speaker 1: available for you right now wherever you listen to your podcast.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Coming up in the rewind slot. Right after this after
- 11:56Speaker 1: party bonus episode, We've got our Willie Nelson episodes parts
- 11:59Speaker 1: one two. Next week, our new episode will be on
- 12:03Speaker 1: Kendrick Lamar. And because of this Kendrick Lamar story, we're
- 12:07Speaker 1: thinking about mercy.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Now.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I know this is kind of an esoteric question for
- 12:12Speaker 1: next week, but when you're listening to that Kendrick episode,
- 12:16Speaker 1: be thinking about mercy, and specifically, be thinking about musical
- 12:20Speaker 1: artists who have demonstrated mercy. Now, I'm not talking about
- 12:24Speaker 1: Matt Boden's favorite metal band, Merciful Fate. I'm talking about artists,
- 12:28Speaker 1: rock stars, musicians who have shown mercy, who have shown forgiveness,
- 12:31Speaker 1: who have shown overwhelming acts of kindness, even six one
- 12:35Speaker 1: seven nine oh six sixty six three eight, voicemail and text,
- 12:39Speaker 1: get at me. Let me know which artists have shown
- 12:42Speaker 1: the greatest examples of mercy in their past in their songwriting.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I mean Marvin Gay, you know, obviously, if we want
- 12:49Speaker 1: to go to a literal route right there for you.
- 12:51Speaker 1: But I know there are others, and I know you
- 12:53Speaker 1: know about them. So call me up six one seven
- 12:55Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three eight and let me
- 12:57Speaker 1: know if you have voicemail in text. All right, you
- 12:59Speaker 1: guys know where I'm I'm here every week. I'm in
- 13:01Speaker 1: the phone booth. It's the one. It's the one that's
- 13:03Speaker 1: across the hall. I am hanging on the telephone. The
- 13:06Speaker 1: question of the week relative to our Motorhead episode that
- 13:10Speaker 1: we asked at the end of that Motorhead episode was
- 13:14Speaker 1: which concert from your youth was your most formative Now
- 13:19Speaker 1: we asked this obviously I go into detail on the
- 13:21Speaker 1: Motorhead episode about me seeing Motorhead Live, about me meeting
- 13:26Speaker 1: Lemmy as well, and it just seemed like an occasion
- 13:29Speaker 1: to ask this question. I love this question. Because everyone
- 13:31Speaker 1: likes talking about the first concerts that really left an
- 13:34Speaker 1: impression on them. Let's check out the two one seven.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Hey, Jake, this is Joe from two one seven doing
- 13:41Speaker 3: some work here, listening to your podcast, going to respond
- 13:44Speaker 3: to one of your extra episodes, and I stepped in
- 13:47Speaker 3: a bucket of paint. But anyway, back to if the
- 13:50Speaker 3: response is the first big influencial band that I've ever
- 13:54Speaker 3: seen live was ACDC on their Back and Black tour.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Believe it was nineteen eighty one, might have been nineteen
- 14:02Speaker 3: eighty Their backup band was Blackfoot. Was an incredible concert.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I was fourteenth time talk my mother into taking me.
- 14:11Speaker 3: And right now to an episode where you are saying
- 14:15Speaker 3: that you're one of your first albums that you got
- 14:17Speaker 3: was the ACDC and you went to see back in
- 14:19Speaker 3: Black or get the album back in Black and you
- 14:22Speaker 3: end up getting I think it was Letter D Rock. Anyway,
- 14:26Speaker 3: you can't.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Go wrong with any bond.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Scott, love your show, keep on doing what you're doing.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Love the way you incorporate songs of the artists into
- 14:36Speaker 3: the episode that you're talking about. Thanks for everything, man.
- 14:41Speaker 1: All right, Seeing ACDC two one seven on the Back
- 14:44Speaker 1: in Black tour is quite extraordinary. I am jealous. Sounds
- 14:48Speaker 1: like I'm a little younger than you. I didn't actually
- 14:50Speaker 1: see ACDC until eighty six on the Who Made Who
- 14:54Speaker 1: Tour and they were fantastic, And you convinced your mom
- 14:57Speaker 1: to take you. I convinced my dad to take me.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I didn't have to do much vincing my dad, like
- 15:00Speaker 1: Dacy DC, my dad knew they were the shit. Two
- 15:02Speaker 1: one seven, watch out for that bucket of paint and yeah,
- 15:05Speaker 1: you're right, it was. Let there be Rock, and thank
- 15:07Speaker 1: you for the shout out about incorporating the songs of
- 15:10Speaker 1: the artists. Guys, I think we're gonna what we're gonna
- 15:12Speaker 1: do for our Patreon listeners. We're going to be rolling
- 15:15Speaker 1: out some new tiers for you in the very near
- 15:17Speaker 1: future that it's gonna have a lot more content for
- 15:20Speaker 1: you to access. And in one of those tiers, we're
- 15:23Speaker 1: gonna start doing these weekly playlists based on the episode
- 15:27Speaker 1: from that week. So for example, this week with Motorhead,
- 15:31Speaker 1: and it wouldn't just be a Motorhead playlist, it would
- 15:34Speaker 1: be sort of everything that kind of goes into that story.
- 15:37Speaker 1: So any other songs that we mentioned, including the number
- 15:40Speaker 1: one song that we mentioned in the a bloc relative
- 15:42Speaker 1: to the Melotron loop, anything related to what inspired that
- 15:47Speaker 1: week subject, So what inspired let me or or you know,
- 15:49Speaker 1: we're there are other artists who went off and did solos.
- 15:51Speaker 1: You know, you know what I'm saying. It'll be a
- 15:53Speaker 1: complete sort of musical look to accompany the episode via
- 15:59Speaker 1: playlist on Spot and Apple Music. So we're going to
- 16:02Speaker 1: start to roll those out in a couple of weeks. Again,
- 16:04Speaker 1: that'll be part of the new new tiered offering in Patreon.
- 16:08Speaker 1: And sounds like we're making the right move because it
- 16:10Speaker 1: sounds like two one seven. You appreciate it when we
- 16:13Speaker 1: get into the actual songs here, we incorporate them into
- 16:15Speaker 1: the story. Of course, why wouldn't we. I'm just happy
- 16:18Speaker 1: to know that you're into it and happy to know
- 16:20Speaker 1: that we are circling the hole here and trying to
- 16:22Speaker 1: provide value for you guys. Let's check out Eli in
- 16:25Speaker 1: the five oh one.
- 16:26Speaker 5: Hey Jake, this is Eli from Arkansas calling from the
- 16:30Speaker 5: five oh one. Even though this is a four seven
- 16:33Speaker 5: nine number because I refuse to change my area code
- 16:36Speaker 5: because I'm not used to that yet. Even though I
- 16:39Speaker 5: live in a different part of Arkansas. Now you've literally
- 16:42Speaker 5: done every one of my favorite bands, now, the Replacements, Motorhead,
- 16:48Speaker 5: all you're missing soundsanzant. I hope that's coming down the
- 16:51Speaker 5: pike at some point, even the Cramps. I love what
- 16:54Speaker 5: you do man. The Motorhead episode. I was just gonna
- 16:57Speaker 5: say my favorite story about Lemmy in general. He was
- 17:03Speaker 5: the walk and tall, rock and roll fucking cowboy. And
- 17:07Speaker 5: when Dave Grohl first saw him at the Rainbow, he
- 17:11Speaker 5: didn't want to say anything to him or whatever, and
- 17:14Speaker 5: so he just walked past him going to the bathroom,
- 17:17Speaker 5: if I remember the story right, and I think he
- 17:20Speaker 5: finally mushed up the balls go and say hi to him,
- 17:23Speaker 5: And he walked up to him and the first thing
- 17:28Speaker 5: let me said to him was I'm sorry about your
- 17:30Speaker 5: friend talking about Kirt Copain of course, which is just
- 17:33Speaker 5: the most beautiful fucking thing in the world. You know,
- 17:37Speaker 5: like the guy had a heart and like that. That
- 17:40Speaker 5: just shows it, you know it. You know, never never
- 17:44Speaker 5: met the guy before, and they're both fellow whatever famous musicians,
- 17:49Speaker 5: but you know, just the amount of respect there for
- 17:52Speaker 5: Kurt Copan, it's just absolutely beautiful. So I just want
- 17:57Speaker 5: to throw that in there. Thanks for everything you do, man,
- 18:00Speaker 5: and also I'll fucking love their Replacements episode. They're my
- 18:04Speaker 5: favorite band of all time, literally next to Motorhead. So
- 18:07Speaker 5: thank you for everything, man, Rock Rolling Yili.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Thank you for the kind words. Appreciate you, man. Glad
- 18:13Speaker 1: you liked the Motorhead and Replacements episodes. We do have
- 18:16Speaker 1: a Towns van Zant episode that we produced for our
- 18:19Speaker 1: Patreon and Apple subscribers. Once that's been available exclusively for
- 18:23Speaker 1: a year, we will roll that out into the wide feed,
- 18:26Speaker 1: so that'll be coming on a couple months. But hey,
- 18:28Speaker 1: if you want it now, man, get in, get in
- 18:30Speaker 1: and become a member of already giving you enough information
- 18:32Speaker 1: on how to do that. Listen, Dave Grohl, the way
- 18:36Speaker 1: let me treated him there just perfect, just fucking perfect
- 18:40Speaker 1: class act. You're absolutely right, Matt gives the nine to
- 18:43Speaker 1: one six a spin.
- 18:45Speaker 4: Jake, It's mister Taylor from Raleigh, North Carolina, Colin about
- 18:50Speaker 4: first concert. My first concert. When I was ten years old,
- 18:54Speaker 4: my mom went and took me to see Jethro Toll
- 18:58Speaker 4: at the Whole Center in Eugene, Oregon. When they played
- 19:01Speaker 4: the Locomotive Breath, I rushed the stage and Ian Anderson
- 19:04Speaker 4: pointed at me, gave me a knowing not and since
- 19:08Speaker 4: it has kicked off a love of live music, and
- 19:11Speaker 4: now as a father of four, I think very intentionally
- 19:16Speaker 4: about how my kids are going to experience their first concert.
- 19:19Speaker 4: I want them to have that moment when they're in college,
- 19:22Speaker 4: you know, where they're older and they're meeting people for
- 19:24Speaker 4: the first time and they have that conversation about what
- 19:26Speaker 4: was your first concert? And I wanted to be a
- 19:29Speaker 4: band that is still around, the band that maybe they
- 19:32Speaker 4: can go see again later on in life. So my
- 19:35Speaker 4: eight year old's first concert when he was five was
- 19:39Speaker 4: my chemical romance, but really we were there to see
- 19:41Speaker 4: the opening band, Turnstile, which is him now his favorite band.
- 19:45Speaker 4: I haven't pulled some strings, got us backstage, and he
- 19:48Speaker 4: got to meet the band. The boys could not have
- 19:49Speaker 4: been cooler. My six year old daughter's first concert when
- 19:52Speaker 4: she was five was Olivia Rodrigo. We flew to Washington,
- 19:56Speaker 4: d C. Before the show. I remember she spent a
- 19:59Speaker 4: half hour gluing gems to my faith. It was a
- 20:03Speaker 4: great moment between the two of us and an amazing concert.
- 20:06Speaker 4: And now my four year old and I are having
- 20:08Speaker 4: that conversation about what concert she wants to see when
- 20:11Speaker 4: she's five. So just a big moment for anybody. Really
- 20:15Speaker 4: excited to share that with my kids and foster a
- 20:18Speaker 4: lifelong love of live music, love the show. I'll tell
- 20:22Speaker 4: you how it all turns out in ten fifteen years
- 20:24Speaker 4: when my kids are older, because I'm sure you'll be
- 20:26Speaker 4: doing something here somewhere else, and I'm definitely gonna be listening.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Love a Brother Rock and Roller.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Nine one six. When you talk about rushing the stage
- 20:34Speaker 1: and making eye contact with Ian Anderson, when you're a
- 20:39Speaker 1: kid and you're at your first show, there's just there's
- 20:43Speaker 1: nothing more thrilling than feeling like you've made a connection
- 20:47Speaker 1: with the artist in a live situation. Harder for dudes
- 20:52Speaker 1: than it is for women. I've been to shows with
- 20:55Speaker 1: my wife even now, she's just staring up there on stage,
- 20:59Speaker 1: dude to just you know, laser beaming in. I get it,
- 21:03Speaker 1: I totally get it. But when you're a little kid,
- 21:06Speaker 1: I remember going to see Metallica and my god, I
- 21:09Speaker 1: was older, I was in high school and and Justice
- 21:11Speaker 1: for All tour, and I got really close, got up
- 21:13Speaker 1: to like the third row, and I just remember like
- 21:16Speaker 1: they looked so human to me, you know, it was
- 21:18Speaker 1: the first time like that. I was like, Wow, these
- 21:20Speaker 1: guys are real. They're moving around in front of me,
- 21:25Speaker 1: and I think I would have like thrown up or
- 21:28Speaker 1: something if Kirk Hammit or James Hetfield made eye contact
- 21:31Speaker 1: with me. I don't remember them doing so what I
- 21:33Speaker 1: do remember being that close and just wow. So I
- 21:35Speaker 1: get it. Nine one six. I get what you're talking about,
- 21:37Speaker 1: and good luck with your kids. Sounds like you're doing
- 21:39Speaker 1: the right thing. I love the Turnstile story.
- 21:41Speaker 6: You know.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I'm a fan. I think for your your four year old,
- 21:43Speaker 1: I think you just gotta for her show, her first show.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I don't know what she's into, but just bringing to
- 21:50Speaker 1: Metallica at the Sphere. Do that? That should be the
- 21:53Speaker 1: first show Metallica at the Sphere for your four year
- 21:56Speaker 1: old's first show when she's five, assuming it happens next year.
- 21:59Speaker 1: If not, wait until she just that will be epic, right,
- 22:03Speaker 1: rock a roll in nine one six. All right, let's
- 22:04Speaker 1: do some text six one seven, nine oh six six
- 22:06Speaker 1: six three eight guys voicemailtain text you want to get
- 22:08Speaker 1: at me on anything?
- 22:10Speaker 3: Really?
- 22:10Speaker 1: But next week's question of the Week Mercy, Which musicians,
- 22:13Speaker 1: which rock stars, Which artists? Have shown the most demonstrated
- 22:17Speaker 1: version of mercy or forgiveness or kindness. All right, let's
- 22:21Speaker 1: flip the script a little here. Always talking about transgressions
- 22:23Speaker 1: and bad shit. Let's talk about some good stuff, some PMA.
- 22:26Speaker 1: All right. In the meantime, let's check out this text
- 22:29Speaker 1: from the six one five. Hey, I not only lived
- 22:34Speaker 1: in Nashville, but I lived in Clinton, mass I ran
- 22:36Speaker 1: a store and rent them. Also lived in Norwich, Connecticut.
- 22:40Speaker 1: So I got all the inferences from the Alex rockopod.
- 22:43Speaker 1: She's talking about the Hollywood Land episode we did this week.
- 22:45Speaker 1: This is us Susan, formerly from the six one five.
- 22:47Speaker 1: She said, Susan, when did you live in Clinton? Text
- 22:50Speaker 1: me back and let me know. I wonder if we
- 22:52Speaker 1: lived there at the same time. Susan goes on, Honestly,
- 22:53Speaker 1: I do appreciate your story about meeting Lemmy. So this
- 22:56Speaker 1: dive bar we used to go do when Kenny Chesney
- 22:59Speaker 1: would sit in us hang out with us because he
- 23:01Speaker 1: was a nobody then. I wasn't into country music. Oh
- 23:03Speaker 1: you played for George Straight. I'm sorry, who's that? But
- 23:06Speaker 1: Fred Curry and Tom Keefer walked in one night and
- 23:09Speaker 1: I told my friend, oh MG, that's Cinderella and we
- 23:12Speaker 1: played pool with them all night. That's pretty cool. What
- 23:15Speaker 1: am I playing pool with Cinderella? Did you ever see Cinderella?
- 23:18Speaker 3: Though?
- 23:18Speaker 1: I haven't. I thought Cinderella were gonna be huge. They weren't.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Uh four two five text in Hey Jake, it's Jules
- 23:25Speaker 1: from the four two five. My first concert in the
- 23:27Speaker 1: early seventies was Alice Cooper and Susie Quatro. Was the
- 23:31Speaker 1: opening for them in Los Angeles. It was insane. What
- 23:34Speaker 1: a show. Never looked back and started going to concerts
- 23:37Speaker 1: from age fifteen on Rock co Rolla. Loved the show.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Damn set you on your way right Alice Cooper and
- 23:43Speaker 1: Susie Quatro. You gotta be kidding me. Pretty incredible. Eight
- 23:46Speaker 1: five six, Hey Mark from the eight five six. First
- 23:48Speaker 1: show is Arrosmith with skid Row opening, sound and volume
- 23:52Speaker 1: of the drums blew me away. But my second show
- 23:55Speaker 1: was Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax at the Spectrum in Philly
- 23:58Speaker 1: in ninety two with Alison Chains opening. What a lineup?
- 24:03Speaker 1: Alison Chains, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax blazing from opener to
- 24:09Speaker 1: Slayer closing is what the eight five six says I've
- 24:13Speaker 1: seen Slayer and Alison Chains. I see Alison Chains, I
- 24:16Speaker 1: can't remember. I don't think I've ever seen Megadeth or Anthrax,
- 24:20Speaker 1: but I saw Slayer with Motorhead. I mentioned that a
- 24:23Speaker 1: lot six one seven nine six, six, six three eight.
- 24:26Speaker 1: You guys, want to get at us about anything related
- 24:28Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, hit us up via voicemail and text, and
- 24:32Speaker 1: remember the question of the week next week when you're
- 24:34Speaker 1: listening to that Kendrick Lamar episode which artists best demonstrated mercy,
- 24:39Speaker 1: let us know get at us six one seven nine
- 24:41Speaker 1: oh six six six three eight. I'm gonna take a
- 24:44Speaker 1: quick break. I'll be back in a flash. All right,
- 25:00Speaker 1: we are back. Listen, guys, hollywood Land got a great
- 25:02Speaker 1: episode this week. Go check that out. It's on Alex Rocco.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I swear I'm not gonna call him Moroka in this
- 25:09Speaker 1: episode of The After Party, despite having said it numerous
- 25:12Speaker 1: times and the Hollywoodland Rap Party. This is one of
- 25:15Speaker 1: my favorite episodes just because of the connection between Alex
- 25:19Speaker 1: Rocco and Boston in Somerville, Massachusetts, and the connection to,
- 25:24Speaker 1: of course, The Godfather, one of my favorite movies of
- 25:27Speaker 1: all time. One of your favorite movies of all time. Hollywoodland,
- 25:29Speaker 1: for those of you who do not know, is our
- 25:31Speaker 1: Hollywood and true crime podcast that I host, and every
- 25:35Speaker 1: week we do a bonus episode like this one in
- 25:37Speaker 1: the hollywood Land Feed. In addition to the full episode,
- 25:39Speaker 1: we do a bonus episode with Zeth and I. Zeth
- 25:42Speaker 1: really takes the helm on the rap party. Matt give
- 25:45Speaker 1: him a little clip, Jake, what music res inspired by
- 25:49Speaker 1: Alex Rocco? Are you bringing today? I got admit I
- 25:53Speaker 1: completely fucked up and I did Morocco recommendations we're going to.
- 25:59Speaker 1: I was wondering why this was so hard. Alex Roka,
- 26:03Speaker 1: Alex Roca Okay, I think, Oh Roco Rocko, Yeah, fuck,
- 26:08Speaker 1: that's right, that's right, mo Roca. Oh, I can't I
- 26:11Speaker 1: do this right? I did do Okay, So I screwed
- 26:14Speaker 1: up already I did. I literally did. Alex Roca, even
- 26:16Speaker 1: though it's Alex Rocco got me to Alex Roca Roca Rolla, Okay,
- 26:21Speaker 1: RockA Rolla all right? The sign off from Disgraceland, one
- 26:25Speaker 1: of the hundred greatest podcasts of all time. I just
- 26:27Speaker 1: found out. We'll talk more about that in disgrace Land.
- 26:31Speaker 1: RockA Rolla. People have often asked me, and I tell
- 26:35Speaker 1: them this answer, and I get very little feedback from it.
- 26:38Speaker 1: But it's from the Judas Priest song RockA Rolla from
- 26:42Speaker 1: their debut album nineteen seventy fours rock a Rolla. The
- 26:46Speaker 1: song is incredible. I you know, I knew the song
- 26:51Speaker 1: when I started recording Disgraceland and writing Disgraced. I had
- 26:54Speaker 1: no intention of using that as a sign off. It's
- 26:56Speaker 1: just something that came to mind and I said it immediately,
- 26:59Speaker 1: and I just without any thought, I said it, and
- 27:02Speaker 1: I just kept saying it. Well, now rock a roller
- 27:05Speaker 1: which I highly highly recommend as a song. It's great,
- 27:10Speaker 1: it's Juis Priests, it's got harmonica, it's so fucking good.
- 27:12Speaker 1: And anyways, it's a big part of all the best
- 27:16Speaker 1: the seventies albums are wild when they don't really quite
- 27:19Speaker 1: know what they're doing yet. Yeah, it's great. All right.
- 27:23Speaker 1: That is Hollywoodland. Make sure you are subscribed and following
- 27:26Speaker 1: on whatever podcast Apple, My dog is freaking out? Do
- 27:28Speaker 1: you hear that? Subscribe and follow on Apple Podcasts, Spotify,

- 27:36Speaker 1: Give it a follow. We're coming at you. Twice a
- 27:38Speaker 1: week over in that feed as well as right here
- 27:39Speaker 1: and disgrace that. Now listen, it is time for the
- 27:43Speaker 1: sixty second Sports Rant and Under thirty Seconds, and I
- 27:46Speaker 1: am all keyed up, and not just because I've been
- 27:48Speaker 1: drinking five Hour Energy. I am keyed up because what
- 27:50Speaker 1: the hell are the Red Sox doing? For real? All right, Matt, Matt,
- 27:54Speaker 1: hold up on that buzzer beat it for just a second.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Let me tell the people that this episode of the
- 27:59Speaker 1: sixty second Sports and Under thirty Seconds is brought to
- 28:01Speaker 1: you again by our friends at five Hour Energy and
- 28:04Speaker 1: their new confetti Craze flavor tastes just like birthday cake
- 28:07Speaker 1: with a vanilla and buttery flavor to let you be
- 28:09Speaker 1: unapologetically extra and unstoppably energized. Head to your local retailer www.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Dot five hour Energy dot com or Amazon to order
- 28:18Speaker 1: yours today. All right, Matt, Now you can hook a
- 28:20Speaker 1: brother up with that buzzer beater. Listen, the Boston Red
- 28:23Speaker 1: Sox have lost three in a row. Looking up at
- 28:27Speaker 1: the Yankees again, I don't even know where to I'm
- 28:29Speaker 1: beside myself here. I feel like we got a series
- 28:33Speaker 1: coming up this weekend with the New York Yankees. This
- 28:35Speaker 1: is potentially a season defining series. The Red Sox really
- 28:39Speaker 1: need to get off the snide. Now, am I confident? No?
- 28:42Speaker 1: Is it because the Red Sox don't have enough pitching?
- 28:45Speaker 1: Is it because they can't hit their way out of
- 28:47Speaker 1: extra innings? No? And no? Is it because I'm afraid
- 28:51Speaker 1: Major League Baseball is gonna do something stupid like implement
- 28:53Speaker 1: a time saving ghost runner man dude on second to
- 28:57Speaker 1: augment their ridiculous extra innings starting on second rule that
- 29:01Speaker 1: they have. Now, No, that's not why I'm not confident.
- 29:04Speaker 1: You know why I'm not confident. I'm gonna tell you why.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Because the Red Sox lack killers. Now, that's as I say,
- 29:10Speaker 1: they don't have any killers. They do, they have a couple,
- 29:14Speaker 1: but they don't have enough, not enough to win a
- 29:16Speaker 1: World series, not right now. And I go back to
- 29:18Speaker 1: the trade dead I'm not gonna do it, but I do.
- 29:19Speaker 1: I go back to the trade deadline. Listen, to win
- 29:22Speaker 1: a World series, you need baseball players with ice water
- 29:26Speaker 1: in their veins, killing machine late inning assassins. And aside
- 29:31Speaker 1: from Chapman and Bragman, where is the steely eyed, can't
- 29:35Speaker 1: be shook killer attitude on these players that I'm watching
- 29:39Speaker 1: in extra innings now in the regular season where they
- 29:43Speaker 1: don't have it now, they're not gonna have it in
- 29:44Speaker 1: the championship. These last few games against the Baltimore Frickin'
- 29:48Speaker 1: Orioles have proven to me that this is what is
- 29:51Speaker 1: most needed out of this squad. And if they're gonna
- 29:53Speaker 1: pass the Yankees, who, like I said, they're now looking
- 29:56Speaker 1: up at in the standings, I don't I don't know
- 29:59Speaker 1: that they can do it without augmenting the team in
- 30:02Speaker 1: some way or someone you're one of the younger players
- 30:04Speaker 1: stepping up. They might be too young, they might be
- 30:08Speaker 1: too green, they might be too happy, they might be
- 30:10Speaker 1: too nice. I don't know. They're too something. But they're
- 30:14Speaker 1: not killer enough. And I hope I'm wrong, Matt, How'd
- 30:17Speaker 1: I do?
- 30:18Speaker 6: Sorry? Jake one fifty five this week wondering if maybe
- 30:22Speaker 6: we should consider maybe renaming the segment thirty second sports
- 30:26Speaker 6: ran under two and a half minutes or something.
- 30:29Speaker 1: I don't know, you know, I just get a maybe
- 30:31Speaker 1: I don't have killer instinct. Maybe maybe I should take
- 30:36Speaker 1: some of my own medicine here. Maybe I should Uh,
- 30:39Speaker 1: I should go back to the drawing board, I should go,
- 30:41Speaker 1: I should get you. Go back to the to the research,
- 30:45Speaker 1: the analytics, try to figure this out. Try to try
- 30:47Speaker 1: to land this plane in under thirty seconds. That was
- 30:51Speaker 1: the sports rant sponsored by Five Hour Energies New Confetti
- 30:54Speaker 1: Craze Flavor Unleash your Party Vibes with as much caffeine
- 30:57Speaker 1: as your favorite twelve ounce fancy coffee, but with zero
- 31:00Speaker 1: sugar and zero crash, Available in stores on Amazon or
- 31:04Speaker 1: at www dot five hour Energy dot com. All right,
- 31:08Speaker 1: speaking of killer instincts, as a music manager, Sharon Osborne
- 31:12Speaker 1: certainly had that quality, and so did her father, Don Arden.
- 31:16Speaker 1: We're gonna get into both, along with the Ozzy Osbourne
- 31:18Speaker 1: us in Asia rumors that have cropped up in the
- 31:21Speaker 1: Bonus rabbit Hole section of this After Party. What's that? Well, listen,
- 31:24Speaker 1: it's this new segment we're doing. I don't know that's
- 31:27Speaker 1: gonna join me now. I think we're just gonna I
- 31:29Speaker 1: want to figure out this Elliott Smith thing we did
- 31:31Speaker 1: last week and Al Jackson Junior. You know, oftentimes Zeth
- 31:34Speaker 1: and I are just calling each other, texting each other,
- 31:36Speaker 1: emailing each other all day every day, asking are there
- 31:39Speaker 1: is there enough here for this story? On this artist
- 31:42Speaker 1: on this episode. I thought, why don't we just do
- 31:44Speaker 1: it here in the bonus section. We'll climb into the
- 31:46Speaker 1: rabbit hole. We'll do it in real time with you guys.
- 31:50Speaker 1: You can chime in whether you think there's enough here
- 31:51Speaker 1: on an episode or not. And we're gonna start today
- 31:55Speaker 1: with the Sharon Osbourne thing. We might end it today too.
- 31:57Speaker 1: If it doesn't work, if you guys aren't into it,
- 31:59Speaker 1: I don't know. We'll see. But if it's something cool,
- 32:02Speaker 1: we'll keep doing it. Man, We'll do it next week
- 32:03Speaker 1: and we'll just do it on and on and on.
- 32:05Speaker 1: All right, but here's the deal, as always. To get
- 32:07Speaker 1: the bonus section of the after Party, get a sign up.

- 32:47Speaker 1: We are back the vault. Let's get into the vault.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Let's crack open the vault. We talked a lot in
- 32:52Speaker 1: this episode, mainly in the exclusive portion about some Disgraceland
- 32:56Speaker 1: featured artists. We mentioned Keith Moon, we mentioned Jimmy Pay,
- 33:00Speaker 1: We mentioned ac DC and Dave Grohl earlier I think
- 33:03Speaker 1: back in the C block when we're taking calls. All
- 33:06Speaker 1: those artists have disgrace Land episodes existing in our massive
- 33:12Speaker 1: archive of over two hundred and thirty episodes. Matt will
- 33:15Speaker 1: have the episode information for you in the show notes
- 33:19Speaker 1: of this bonus episode, so you can easily find those stories.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Should you be interested, and why shouldn't you be? They're
- 33:25Speaker 1: pretty good stories. You can want to check them out.
- 33:27Speaker 1: All right, I gotta get out of here, so let's
- 33:28Speaker 1: recap real quick. Number one this week, our full episode
- 33:31Speaker 1: on Motorhead is available right now wherever you listen to podcasts.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Coming up next in your feed on Friday, We've got

- 33:47Speaker 1: Number four on Hollywood Land right now, Alex Rocko, that's
- 33:50Speaker 1: our story. Go check that out. Number five six one
- 33:52Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six six three eight your voice
- 33:56Speaker 1: keeps this show dangerous. Your voice helps us find what
- 33:59Speaker 1: gup buried. Keep texting, keep calling, help us reclaim the
- 34:03Speaker 1: stories they never wanted us to tell in the first place.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Number six, don't forget discos. This isn't just content. It's
- 34:08Speaker 1: a community, a community of the obsessed. No one cares
- 34:10Speaker 1: about music, books, records in the crime and grime. It
- 34:13Speaker 1: ties them all together like you do. And well that
- 34:15Speaker 1: is a disgrace, all right. Our patron saint of speed freaks,
- 34:20Speaker 1: lem Me from Motorhead, passed away on December twenty, twenty fifteen.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Here's what America was listening to on that day, as
- 34:26Speaker 1: demonstrated by the Billboard charts. Number one, Hello Adele last
- 34:32Speaker 1: week one, peak position one weeks on Chart seven. Number
- 34:37Speaker 1: two Sorry Justin Bieber last week two, peak position one,
- 34:43Speaker 1: two weeks on chart seven, number one. Number three, Hotline
