- 1:01Speaker 4: We're off to a really good start here.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I have man Caleb just told me it's Tuesday, not Wednesday.
- 1:10Speaker 1: That sucks. Yeah, well he wouldn't be here at this
- 1:17Speaker 1: time anyway. So wow, I'm better get a show together
- 1:22Speaker 1: for tomorrow. Welcome here, Glad to have you with us.
- 1:28Speaker 1: We do have stuff today. I think we have good
- 1:31Speaker 1: stuff today. We've got our high school report the way
- 1:34Speaker 1: we usually do. We're gonna hear from Oklahoma coach Brent
- 1:38Speaker 1: Vinables his team host Auburn on Saturday, also Bruce Bochee
- 1:45Speaker 1: and Jack Lighter from What the World Happened Last Night?
- 1:50Speaker 1: To did I mention a high school report? Yes, we've
- 1:54Speaker 1: got that, And in the second hour I'm gonna replay
- 1:58Speaker 1: an interview I did. It's been probably three weeks ago
- 2:04Speaker 1: with Ivan Mazell. The reason I'm replaying it, and i'll
- 2:09Speaker 1: explain this again in the second hour is his book,
- 2:14Speaker 1: American Coach on Frank Lahey is just absolutely great. But
- 2:20Speaker 1: it's out today. Okay, it is out today. I got
- 2:27Speaker 1: a preview copy. I read it. Ivan was available. I said, yeah,
- 2:33Speaker 1: because you know Ivan's busy. I said, yes, let's talk
- 2:36Speaker 1: to him. And so I told the publisher. I said, hey,
- 2:39Speaker 1: we'll schedule the interview now. I'll replay it again when
- 2:43Speaker 1: the book comes out, which is today. So that's pretty cool.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And Mallory is here as well, So we got that
- 2:49Speaker 1: going on for us. The awards keep coming in for
- 2:53Speaker 1: the Aggie football team. Mario Craver named the Earl Campbell
- 2:58Speaker 1: Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week two hundred and
- 3:03Speaker 1: seven yards receiving on seven catches, including the eighty six
- 3:08Speaker 1: yard touchdown. He leads the team with four hundred and
- 3:14Speaker 1: forty three receiving yards. He leads the SEC with four
- 3:18Speaker 1: hundred and forty three receiving yards one hundred and forty
- 3:21Speaker 1: seven yards per game. He was also named the AP
- 3:24Speaker 1: National Player of the Week and coach elco is going
- 3:29Speaker 1: to bring home some hardware a couple the Dodd Trophy
- 3:35Speaker 1: Coach of the Week and the Bear Bryant Coach of
- 3:38Speaker 1: the Week. Diego Pavia apparently wants to play quarterback at
- 3:42Speaker 1: vari Bilt until he's forty. He is setting the stage
- 3:47Speaker 1: to challenge for a potential seventh year of eligibility. His
- 3:53Speaker 1: motion for a preliminary injunction against the NCAA was granted
- 3:57Speaker 1: this past December, allowing him to play this year. He
- 4:01Speaker 1: argued the red shirt rule involving junior college eligibility violates
- 4:05Speaker 1: an he trust law. Following the ruling, the NCAA issued
- 4:10Speaker 1: a blanket waiver for this year. In a hearing today
- 4:17Speaker 1: at the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth District,
- 4:21Speaker 1: sixth Circuit, Excuse me, Pavia's attorney said, unless the rules
- 4:25Speaker 1: are not found to be subject to anti trust, they're
- 4:29Speaker 1: going to stack on a challenge to the red shirt
- 4:32Speaker 1: rule and ask for an injunction so he can play
- 4:35Speaker 1: again next year. I think he's just trying to play
- 4:38Speaker 1: until he can win a national championship for Vanderbilt. I'm
- 4:43Speaker 1: not going to tell this guy camp. By the way,
- 4:47Speaker 1: Dabbo is talking back to critics, He's done this before.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Clemson was taught to be a national championship contender when
- 4:57Speaker 1: the season began, but they lost tou and then this
- 5:00Speaker 1: last Saturday they lost to Georgia Tech Swinny retelling reporters. Today,
- 5:07Speaker 1: I thrive in the battle. Honestly, I have my whole life.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Perspective is important. If they want me gone, they can
- 5:14Speaker 1: send me on my way. If they're tired of winning,
- 5:18Speaker 1: they can send me on my way. I won't stop.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I'm fifty five. I'll go somewhere else and win. I
- 5:25Speaker 1: ain't going to the beach. We've won this league eight
- 5:28Speaker 1: of the last ten years. Is that good? I've got
- 5:32Speaker 1: a long memory. In case y'all don't know, this is
- 5:35Speaker 1: a program that's built the last. If you don't believe
- 5:37Speaker 1: in us after we lost just two games, you weren't
- 5:40Speaker 1: all in anyway. Hate to disappoint all the haters out there,
- 5:44Speaker 1: but I have a long way to go.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Boys.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Clemson will play Syracuse on Saturday. SMU and TCU play
- 5:58Speaker 1: for the Iron Skillets and Fort Worth for the last
- 6:02Speaker 1: time in the foreseeable future, because TU said that it
- 6:05Speaker 1: won't play anymore well. Apparently, stories out that SBU has
- 6:10Speaker 1: been quietly conducting a rebrand until the Board of Trustees
- 6:15Speaker 1: chair David Miller made a bold statement to arena full
- 6:20Speaker 1: of SMU fans last Friday who were at a private
- 6:25Speaker 1: screening for Thunder on Resurgence of the SMU Mustangs, which
- 6:30Speaker 1: is a new documentary that will air on Sunday evening.
- 6:35Speaker 1: For months, SMU has been phasing out the pony up slogan.
- 6:41Speaker 1: SMU athletics flagship Twitter account hasn't tweeted pony up since May.
- 6:47Speaker 1: New athletic director Damon Evans used the hashtag in his
- 6:51Speaker 1: first few weeks, but has it used it since April thirteen.
- 6:56Speaker 1: When Miller made the statement Friday, it led to an
- 6:59Speaker 1: outing of frustration on social media. Miller telling the Dallas
- 7:05Speaker 1: Morning News today, I'm surprised by the negative reaction to it.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I didn't anticipate that, but regardless, it's fair to say
- 7:14Speaker 1: sometimes change is hard. Pony up has been synonymous with
- 7:20Speaker 1: the program since two thousand and seven. On the admissions website,
- 7:25Speaker 1: it says pony Up is SEMU shared rallying, cry and greeting.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Many on social media blamed the new leadership for the rebranding.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Jay Hartzel came from the University of Texas to be
- 7:38Speaker 1: the new president SMU. The athletic director is new, but
- 7:44Speaker 1: Miller tells The Dallas Morning News it was a decision
- 7:48Speaker 1: made in effect by football coach Rhett Lashly and basketball
- 7:52Speaker 1: coach and the infield. He says, I'm happy to take
- 7:57Speaker 1: some of the responsibility for it, but rhtt and and
- 8:00Speaker 1: Damon Frankly, the image that they want to project from
- 8:03Speaker 1: a recruiting standpoint is not that of a pony. It's
- 8:09Speaker 1: wild mustangs charging must eggs. Miller said, SMU's mascot, Peruna,
- 8:19Speaker 1: who is a pony, will remain the same. If I
- 8:24Speaker 1: had it all to do over again, said Miller, I
- 8:27Speaker 1: don't know. I would say that Pony Up has died
- 8:30Speaker 1: a natural death. There still may be some opportunities to
- 8:35Speaker 1: use that theme, but fundamentally, I'm not going to hide
- 8:39Speaker 1: the ball. We're SMU Mustangs, We're not SMU pony Okay,
- 8:49Speaker 1: no more pony up. Let's go Mustangs. Tournament of Roses
- 8:56Speaker 1: announcing today that former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stull Oops
- 9:00Speaker 1: is going to be inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall
- 9:03Speaker 1: of Fame this year along with Wisconsin running back Monty Ball.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Stoops both played and coached in the Rose Bowl. Ball
- 9:15Speaker 1: is all time NCAA leader in touchdowns and the only
- 9:21Speaker 1: player to rush for one hundred more yards in three
- 9:25Speaker 1: Rose Bowls. Bet MGM has new odds out for the
- 9:31Speaker 1: National Championship, and I got to tell you, I don't
- 9:35Speaker 1: understand them. Ohio State is the favorite. I understand that
- 9:41Speaker 1: Georgia's right behind. I understand that they're tied with Penn
- 9:45Speaker 1: State at plus six hundred. So who's fourth? Who would
- 9:49Speaker 1: you think would be fourth? In the National Championship odds?
- 9:55Speaker 1: Right now through bet MGM, they're tied with Oregon at
- 10:00Speaker 1: plus seven hundred, none other than the fighting arch mannings.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Let that settle. I don't know. Maybe, look, betters always
- 10:15Speaker 1: know stuff I don't know. Oh yes, they do. Quote
- 10:20Speaker 1: checking your head. They know stuff I don't know. But
- 10:23Speaker 1: I don't understand this at all. LSU's plus one thousand,
- 10:29Speaker 1: Alabama's plus thirteen hundred. Miama is plus sixteen hundred. Texas
- 10:35Speaker 1: A and M University is on the list in the
- 10:39Speaker 1: top ten at plus eighteen hundred and Oklahoma plus two thousand.
- 10:47Speaker 1: All Right, I gonna talk Rangers and Astros. That was
- 10:50Speaker 1: horrible last night.
- 10:53Speaker 5: I mean.
- 10:55Speaker 1: It was horrible. Bruce Bochie made some terrible decision. Is
- 11:00Speaker 1: that I'm not used to seeing him make. The Rangers
- 11:03Speaker 1: kick the ball all over the infield. They made two errors,
- 11:07Speaker 1: They missed out on two double plays that cost them
- 11:11Speaker 1: two runs. They gave up a two run bomb to
- 11:15Speaker 1: a kid that just joined the team four days ago.
- 11:21Speaker 1: It was not pretty last night. What does that mean?
- 11:26Speaker 1: It means in my mind, the Rangers put themselves in
- 11:30Speaker 1: a must win situation. They have to win. They're three
- 11:39Speaker 1: and a half behind Seattle because Seattle was idle last night.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Could you tell me who Seattle plays?
- 11:47Speaker 6: Caleb?
- 11:48Speaker 1: Who they're playing at Kansas City? Okay, Royals are barely
- 11:53Speaker 1: in the hunt, but they are still kind of in
- 11:55Speaker 1: the hunt. Okay, so three games there and then they
- 12:00Speaker 1: come to Houston. They play the Astros after the Rangers leave.
- 12:04Speaker 1: But I'm saying the Rangers have to win tonight. They
- 12:10Speaker 1: have to win now. They can still win one out
- 12:14Speaker 1: of these three games because they have tie breakers over
- 12:18Speaker 1: Houston and over Boston the Red Sox. Okay, Ranger fans
- 12:25Speaker 1: now are rooting for Seattle to just run away with
- 12:29Speaker 1: the West over the next ten days, all right, because
- 12:32Speaker 1: they ain't catching Seattle and they don't have the Seattle
- 12:35Speaker 1: has a tiebreaker anyway, so I'm gonna think they need
- 12:42Speaker 1: to win a night Merrill Kelly on the mound against
- 12:47Speaker 1: aj blue Ball. I've never heard of this guy. I
- 12:52Speaker 1: guess if you're an Astro fan, you have, but I've
- 12:54Speaker 1: never heard of it. Are we carrying this game tonight?
- 12:59Speaker 1: Or is it on? Is it next door? I don't remember.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Do we have a coaching show? It is here? We
- 13:07Speaker 1: think it might be here, so you know, I don't know.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Tune into six forty. If the pregame's on, then it's here.
- 13:19Speaker 1: So there you go.
- 13:19Speaker 5: It is here.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Okay, we are carrying that game. I'll be watching the
- 13:25Speaker 1: Rangers network and the Masters look at them. They don't
- 13:33Speaker 1: make enough money as it is. So they have signed
- 13:37Speaker 1: up Amazon Prime Video to join ESPN and CBS as
- 13:45Speaker 1: a broadcast partner this next spring. In April, airing two
- 13:50Speaker 1: hours of coverage from noon to two o'clock on the
- 13:56Speaker 1: Thursday and Friday. The first two rounds, the Masters will
- 14:01Speaker 1: have twenty seven hours of broadcast coverage, which is fifty
- 14:06Speaker 1: percent more than they had in twenty twenty four. So,
- 14:12Speaker 1: like I said, and you know, I gave you that
- 14:14Speaker 1: story that they're selling these exclusive packages to people that
- 14:20Speaker 1: include being wined and dined and staying in houses and
- 14:24Speaker 1: you know, ten thousand dollars or something, twenty thousand dollars
- 14:28Speaker 1: something like that. I guess they just woke up and said, hey,
- 14:32Speaker 1: the board says, hey, we're not making enough money here.
- 14:36Speaker 1: We need more. So there you go, they're getting more.
- 14:43Speaker 4: All right, We're going to take a break.
- 14:44Speaker 1: The final lap brought to you by Chad Jones Law.
- 14:48Speaker 7: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 14:51Speaker 7: do injuries from car wrecks. But you didn't sign up
- 14:53Speaker 7: to being a car wreck with someone who wasn't paying attention.
- 14:56Speaker 7: It was their fault, and now you're left to deal
- 14:58Speaker 7: with the consequences to see a doctor and you're missing work.
- 15:01Speaker 7: Chad Jones Law can help. We've been helping our neighbors

- 15:20Speaker 8: NASCAR expanded He Series race recap from Bristol Motor Speedway.
- 15:23Speaker 8: I'm Kerrie Murphy Eric Olmola leads thirty four laps on
- 15:26Speaker 8: the day to grab the checkered flag.
- 15:28Speaker 9: You know, the last few laps, I started counting them
- 15:31Speaker 9: down to my head and I knew, like if I
- 15:34Speaker 9: just if I just hit my marks, didn't overrun the entry,
- 15:37Speaker 9: like I was gonna get to the finish line first.
- 15:40Speaker 9: So I started kind of slowing my entries down. But
- 15:43Speaker 9: I don't I honestly can't answer that question. I think
- 15:46Speaker 9: he would have got there right like, but I don't
- 15:48Speaker 9: know how his exits would have been. You know, there's
- 15:51Speaker 9: just something different about the night race. As a race
- 15:55Speaker 9: car driver, it's just special, as you know, for me,
- 15:58Speaker 9: I love when it starts ripping the fence here in
- 16:02Speaker 9: the night race, and you can just I don't know,
- 16:05Speaker 9: there's something sensational about it as a race car driver
- 16:08Speaker 9: when you just carry that much speed on a half
- 16:11Speaker 9: mile racetrack and there's nothing else like it. You know,
- 16:15Speaker 9: it's just so fast every inch of the racetrack matters.
- 16:20Speaker 8: It's Eric second win this season running a partial schedule
- 16:23Speaker 8: for Joe Gibbs Racing, and we've got Sheldon Creed running second,

- 19:14Speaker 1: the Auburn Tigers. That is a two point thirty game
- 19:20Speaker 1: on ABC on Saturday afternoon. Let's hear from Brent Vinnables
- 19:26Speaker 1: and his news conference in Norman today.
- 19:31Speaker 16: Got a great matchup this weekend with Auburn. As you
- 19:34Speaker 16: all know, first time Auburn has been to Norman. They
- 19:38Speaker 16: got a really good football team. Because I'm getting started,
- 19:43Speaker 16: I'd like to just take a quick moment to congratulate
- 19:46Speaker 16: coach Stoops and going into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame.
- 19:50Speaker 16: Really cool honor for him and that year going against
- 19:57Speaker 16: Washington State A what a fun game that was. But
- 20:03Speaker 16: congratulations to coach Stoops for that. I think Saturday is
- 20:06Speaker 16: going to be a wear Crimson game for all the
- 20:09Speaker 16: Sooner fans, So I know they're going to show up
- 20:12Speaker 16: early and stay late and having a great opportunity to
- 20:18Speaker 16: again affect the game like they did against Michigan. So
- 20:21Speaker 16: look forward to having a great crowd on Saturday afternoon.
- 20:26Speaker 15: Again.
- 20:27Speaker 16: Auburn has had a lot of success in the lines
- 20:31Speaker 16: of scrimmage here. I've talked about that a little bit
- 20:35Speaker 16: last night, and they they ranked in both the top
- 20:41Speaker 16: twenty on rushing offense and rushing defense.
- 20:44Speaker 15: Have done a.
- 20:45Speaker 16: Fantastic job, got great balance and what they're doing and
- 20:49Speaker 16: given up just under two yards a run through their
- 20:52Speaker 16: first three games and they're averaging almost two hundred and
- 20:55Speaker 16: fifty yards a game rushing. They've rushed for ten touchdowns,
- 21:02Speaker 16: have not allowed a rushing touchdown yet this year. Last
- 21:05Speaker 16: year they had thirteen total rushing touchdowns, so they've already
- 21:10Speaker 16: gotten ten this year. They've been great in the red
- 21:12Speaker 16: zone when they're nine out of nine and they've gone forth.
- 21:17Speaker 16: They haven't missed a fourth down conversion yet as well.
- 21:21Speaker 16: Jackson Arnold is complete and seventy percent of his passes
- 21:25Speaker 16: and averaging one hundred and sixty seven yards a game,
- 21:30Speaker 16: four touchdowns, no interceptions, no turnovers at all. Ran for
- 21:35Speaker 16: just under one hundred and fifty yards against Baylor, so
- 21:38Speaker 16: he's playing really, really well. They've got tremendous talent both sides.
- 21:43Speaker 15: Of the ball.
- 21:43Speaker 16: Got a great roster, really big, physical offensive line. Cobs
- 21:48Speaker 16: an excellent runner, really explosive and runs well behind his pads.
- 21:52Speaker 16: And then defensively, man, these guys are long, and they're athletic, again,
- 21:57Speaker 16: super aggressive, they're multiple well coached. Uh So again gonna
- 22:02Speaker 16: be a great challenge for us going into this weekend.
- 22:07Speaker 17: We'll start out George, Yeah, Brant, after this season, that
- 22:12Speaker 17: was tough last year.
- 22:13Speaker 18: Maybe what conversations did you and Jackson have after the
- 22:17Speaker 18: year and was it one of the situations where maybe
- 22:20Speaker 18: both sides needed somewhat of a.
- 22:21Speaker 15: Fresh Yeah, I'll just keep that between he and I.
- 22:25Speaker 16: And obviously things that worked out well for him and
- 22:29Speaker 16: and uh and us both, but those are things are
- 22:34Speaker 16: never easy and uh, but it's just the environment that
- 22:39Speaker 16: we're in and I'm really happy for him that he's
- 22:41Speaker 16: having great success.
- 22:43Speaker 17: Watch him take where you maybe seeing him improve.
- 22:46Speaker 3: From last year to this year.
- 22:47Speaker 15: I think he's the same guy.
- 22:48Speaker 16: I think he's got a healthy football team around him,
- 22:51Speaker 16: and he's having great success running, throwing, being really efficient.
- 22:56Speaker 16: He's taking care of the ball, and the people around
- 22:59Speaker 16: him are good and play quarterback by yourself, right, So, Uh,
- 23:03Speaker 16: I think the offense and their defense complement one another.
- 23:06Speaker 16: And and uh, he's really done a great job.
- 23:13Speaker 15: You guys have their own arms. He's appealed together.
- 23:16Speaker 16: Yeah, he's he's gonna miss the first half, all right.
- 23:19Speaker 15: And with him.
- 23:19Speaker 19: Missing the first half, how big of an opportunity is
- 23:22Speaker 19: it for guys like Dan?
- 23:22Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 23:23Speaker 16: I mean we've we've been playing a bunch of guys
- 23:25Speaker 16: and Danny will be back here this week. So guys
- 23:28Speaker 16: got to hold it down, you know. And but I've
- 23:32Speaker 16: got no no doubt they will amazing.
- 23:36Speaker 11: Uh.
- 23:37Speaker 15: Troy Everett obviously didn't make the trip to Ferry. He's
- 23:39Speaker 15: not on your depth chart anymore. What's his status?
- 23:41Speaker 16: Yeah, he had a season ending injury. We could go
- 23:44Speaker 16: last Tuesday.
- 23:45Speaker 9: Uh.
- 23:45Speaker 15: I hate that for him.
- 23:47Speaker 16: It's just devastating same injury other knee that he had
- 23:52Speaker 16: a little over a year and a half ago. And uh,
- 23:55Speaker 16: uh he's having a really good year and just a
- 23:59Speaker 16: great leader, and he'll have to lead in a different
- 24:02Speaker 16: type of way. Really hurt for him, and and uh
- 24:08Speaker 16: you know again all the the pain, the sacrifice that
- 24:12Speaker 16: he's been through. Uh and but he's really tough and
- 24:17Speaker 16: he'll move move on, move forward, and he'll be He'll
- 24:22Speaker 16: he'll find another way to use all the the leadership
- 24:25Speaker 16: qualities that he has to help us.
- 24:29Speaker 20: Bred How do you feel about that?
- 24:32Speaker 3: The depth there at center behind Jake?
- 24:34Speaker 15: Yeah, Phil feel okay?
- 24:37Speaker 16: You know like everybody, uh not many teams gonna have
- 24:40Speaker 16: three or four centers. So you know, we got a
- 24:43Speaker 16: good plan. Uh you know if we have to address
- 24:45Speaker 16: that at some point in time, and uh, we'll be fine,
- 24:51Speaker 16: right yeah.
- 24:51Speaker 21: Uht Michigan, we we asked you how you're going to
- 24:54Speaker 21: defend Rice Underwood. By then you knew how you were
- 24:58Speaker 21: gonna do it, but you didn't know much about how
- 25:00Speaker 21: they what they would do with him, what he could do,
- 25:02Speaker 21: those kinds of things. Same thing on Jackson, except you
- 25:06Speaker 21: do know all about him. You know, his strength is
- 25:07Speaker 21: weaknesses you know everything entire history. How does that affect
- 25:12Speaker 21: what you can do defensively in terms of presenting a
- 25:15Speaker 21: plan to stop him.
- 25:17Speaker 16: Yeah, we got to really stop the Auburn offense. That's
- 25:23Speaker 16: the challenge. And they're got great balance, as I said,
- 25:29Speaker 16: both running and throwing and very efficient, so you got
- 25:32Speaker 16: to play well in every area. You know, they're good
- 25:34Speaker 16: at running the football, and they're good at throwing the
- 25:37Speaker 16: ball down the field and the RPO world and staying
- 25:41Speaker 16: on schedule, being very efficient. So we've got to be
- 25:45Speaker 16: a little more efficient, and we've got to protect the perimeter,
- 25:49Speaker 16: and we've got to do a great job up front,
- 25:51Speaker 16: you know, plugging gaps and getting off of blocks and
- 25:55Speaker 16: having great leverage and playing great team defense.
- 26:00Speaker 6: And roads right and run.
- 26:01Speaker 5: Fam mentioned the balance Offera offense, as we do.
- 26:03Speaker 11: You see from Coleman Singleton of the one.
- 26:06Speaker 15: Two punch Yeah again.
- 26:08Speaker 16: Singleton is a new addition obviously came from Georgia Tech
- 26:11Speaker 16: and really explosive playmaker. You know, when he touches the ball, man,
- 26:16Speaker 16: he's got a chance to score every time he touches
- 26:19Speaker 16: the ball. So they're using utilize them in lots of
- 26:23Speaker 16: different ways as both a ball carrier, some of the
- 26:27Speaker 16: perimeter game, the screen game, and then he's also a
- 26:29Speaker 16: threat down the field.
- 26:31Speaker 15: Coleman is h he's elite.
- 26:33Speaker 16: He's got great length to him and had a good
- 26:37Speaker 16: game against us last year. He's got great catch radius,
- 26:41Speaker 16: super instinct off he can really go up and get
- 26:44Speaker 16: the football, and uh so it's gonna be again another
- 26:48Speaker 16: area that's a big challenge for us.
- 26:54Speaker 22: Try When you first came here, I called one of
- 26:57Speaker 22: your biggest issues with your defense being exactly you know
- 27:00Speaker 22: you did.
- 27:00Speaker 15: Frustrated almost every week guys try to strip.
- 27:03Speaker 22: The pall by gambling to make big plays and sometimes
- 27:06Speaker 22: getting burned by it. Now you've got one of the
- 27:08Speaker 22: best defenses in the country universally considering one of the
- 27:10Speaker 22: best defense in the country, despite having not forced to
- 27:12Speaker 22: turn over generally, when that happens, you've got to add
- 27:15Speaker 22: a good tackling good fundamentals. At what point did you
- 27:19Speaker 22: start to notice a change and the mentality of your
- 27:21Speaker 22: guys from a ship from trying to force those big
- 27:24Speaker 22: plays to embracing defensive fundamentals.
- 27:28Speaker 16: Yeah, I mean, I don't know if there was ever
- 27:32Speaker 16: an exact moment, but we got better when our guys
- 27:35Speaker 16: started understanding defense, tracking angles. Certainly, a lot of the
- 27:40Speaker 16: fundamentals that you carry, you know, to the from practice
- 27:44Speaker 16: to uh, you know, game day. But I really feel
- 27:47Speaker 16: like the understanding of of you know, coverage, zone man,
- 27:53Speaker 16: and where your help is so you know how to
- 27:56Speaker 16: close space. I think the hardest, most challenging part of
- 27:59Speaker 16: tackling is space. But the next thing that you say
- 28:04Speaker 16: after that is just the tracking angles, and it's all
- 28:07Speaker 16: based on where your help is. So the more intelligent
- 28:11Speaker 16: we got, the more that we developed the fundamentals within
- 28:14Speaker 16: you know, the tackling techniques, I feel like we got
- 28:18Speaker 16: a lot better, a lot more aggressive, a lot more confident.
- 28:22Speaker 16: Put our eyes where it belong in our own coverage,
- 28:25Speaker 16: so you see the ball throne, so you make a
- 28:28Speaker 16: quick break. I mean, there's lots of layers to it.
- 28:30Speaker 16: I don't know an exact moment. And so we got
- 28:34Speaker 16: our players that were on our roster a little better,
- 28:38Speaker 16: and our freshmen certainly have grown up through it. Many
- 28:41Speaker 16: of those guys are guys like Kip Kobe or Mason Grayson,
- 28:46Speaker 16: Gentry Robert, that group of guys and Owen and then
- 28:52Speaker 16: you know we've recruited better. You know, gotten a little
- 28:55Speaker 16: better athletically, and that always helps, you know, when you
- 28:59Speaker 16: got good players, you know, on top of that. But
- 29:02Speaker 16: we we like everybody, we put a premium on it,
- 29:05Speaker 16: and I think our practice environment strains our guys to
- 29:10Speaker 16: improve that way, you know, and we're not gonna compromise,
- 29:15Speaker 16: you know, being really good at the basics and certainly
- 29:19Speaker 16: got a you know, room for improvement. But we've made
- 29:23Speaker 16: you know, tremendous improvement that way.
- 29:25Speaker 23: You know. Every time we do one of these CNJ
- 29:27Speaker 23: barbecue commercials, they tell us to come up with something clever,
- 29:30Speaker 23: but honestly, I never know what to say.
- 29:32Speaker 3: How about we're CNJ Barbecue. We make barbecue. It's good.
- 29:36Speaker 3: People like it. That's why we've been here smoking meats
- 29:39Speaker 3: and bill and belly since the eighties.
- 29:41Speaker 23: Well, I guess that sums it up. So if you're hungry,
- 29:44Speaker 23: come see us.
- 29:44Speaker 3: If you need more convincing, well maybe you just don't
- 29:47Speaker 3: like happiness.
- 29:48Speaker 23: Either way, we'll be here smoking meat like we always do,
- 29:51Speaker 23: serving up happiness.
- 29:52Speaker 4: On a tray.
- 29:53Speaker 3: CNJ Barbecue, let's see.

- 30:28Speaker 1: a high school report. We're gonna hear from Jack Lyder
- 30:32Speaker 1: and Bruce Bochee, time permitting. Before the hour is up.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Ivan Mazell will join us in the second hour. Mallory
- 30:38Speaker 1: will join us in the second hour. We'll talk about
- 30:42Speaker 1: the death of the great Robert Redford.
- 30:45Speaker 15: Woke up this.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Morning with that news. Doesn't seem possible to me, It
- 30:50Speaker 1: does seem possible. He's eighty nine years old, but man
- 30:54Speaker 1: did he make some great movies and directed some great
- 30:58Speaker 1: movies as well. Sefcheck service centers open right now. They're
- 31:03Speaker 1: open all six. The gasoline islands opened later than that,
- 31:07Speaker 1: seven to six Monday through Friday, seven to four Saturday.
- 31:13Speaker 1: You know, it's the heat still on right and looks
- 31:18Speaker 1: like for a little while longer so just make sure
- 31:21Speaker 1: your car, your truck is ready to go, whether it's tires.
- 31:28Speaker 1: You know, when you go into the gasoline island, do
- 31:32Speaker 1: you know that they will pump the gas for you
- 31:34Speaker 1: and check your fluid levels, your tire pressure. Some of
- 31:39Speaker 1: us who are old enough grew up like that, and
- 31:42Speaker 1: sep check is the only place that's providing that kind
- 31:46Speaker 1: of service, mainly because some of you are getting gas
- 31:49Speaker 1: at big box stores. But if you go to sebchecks,
- 31:52Speaker 1: they're going to take care of you the way they've
- 31:54Speaker 1: done for well over half a century. Pat and his
- 31:57Speaker 1: staff are there every single day making sure that customer
- 32:03Speaker 1: service is at the top. It's Sevcheck's service center, twenty
- 32:07Speaker 1: two hundred longmyres is down from the post office in
- 32:10Speaker 1: College Station.
- 32:12Speaker 14: This is this z on eleven and fifty am and
- 32:15Speaker 14: maybe three point seven FM.

- 32:33Speaker 25: Slovacic sausage on your grill for tailgate parties, and be
- 32:36Speaker 25: sure to stop by the full service meat market.

- 33:04Speaker 27: It's the Collins Show. Game Day, each and every Aggie

- 33:11Speaker 27: Matt Brass Valley Floor and Design, Techacts dot Com and
- 33:15Speaker 27: the Hilton College Station and Conference Center.
- 33:26Speaker 28: Welcome to the High School Report on Matt Williams. As
- 33:28Speaker 28: day were going out to the Klaris Fin Center from
- 33:30Speaker 28: line and.
- 33:31Speaker 29: Visit with head football coach for the Indian Consolidate the Tigers,
- 33:34Speaker 29: Brandon Schmidt.
- 33:35Speaker 28: Great to have you on again. How are you doing.
- 33:37Speaker 5: I'm doing great. I appreciate you guys having.
- 33:39Speaker 29: Me, Yes, sir of course, you secured your second win
- 33:42Speaker 29: of the season last Friday. Was there anything unexpected or
- 33:45Speaker 29: surprising about that game?
- 33:47Speaker 5: Oh? Man, Yeah, I don't know. It was a really
- 33:50Speaker 5: good game between two really good football teams, you know,
- 33:53Speaker 5: really tough district opener. They got a really good program
- 33:57Speaker 5: over there. Coach Hill does a great job, and they
- 34:00Speaker 5: got a lot of talented kids over there. So from
- 34:02Speaker 5: that standpoint, you know, really tough district opener. I still think,
- 34:07Speaker 5: you know, early on in the season, maybe some early
- 34:09Speaker 5: season mistakes that they got to get fixed, but overall,
- 34:14Speaker 5: really proud of our kids and a great district opener.
- 34:17Speaker 29: M And were there any stand up individual performances you'd
- 34:21Speaker 29: like to highlight?
- 34:24Speaker 5: Yeah, Jamarlon Mooring, chunky running back, he had I think
- 34:27Speaker 5: seventeen carries for one hundred and fifty five yards. Cam
- 34:30Speaker 5: Rouston also running back, he had another ninety five yards
- 34:33Speaker 5: or so on the ground. So I thought the offensive
- 34:36Speaker 5: line did a great job, you know, opening up some
- 34:38Speaker 5: some running room. And then Simon Starks had a kickoff
- 34:43Speaker 5: returned for a touchdown which was a big kind of
- 34:46Speaker 5: momentum swing for us. And then defensively, Leo Beffort had
- 34:51Speaker 5: had an interception that was huge. Jackson Solomon had an
- 34:53Speaker 5: interception that was huge. So a lot of guys stepped
- 34:56Speaker 5: up and made big plays.
- 34:58Speaker 29: And you're far enough into the season that you really
- 35:01Speaker 29: have an idea of the identity of your team. What
- 35:03Speaker 29: do you think your team's strengths and weaknesses are this
- 35:06Speaker 29: season that are different from last season?
- 35:09Speaker 5: You know, I think right now, right now, we're doing
- 35:11Speaker 5: a really good job through three games of running the football.
- 35:14Speaker 5: Our offensive line is doing a good job in the
- 35:16Speaker 5: run game. We've got two really good backs that we
- 35:18Speaker 5: feel good about. So I think the ground game right
- 35:21Speaker 5: now is really performing well. And I think defensively we're
- 35:28Speaker 5: doing a really good job of stopping the run. I
- 35:31Speaker 5: think we have to make some improvements in the passing
- 35:33Speaker 5: game offensively and then defensively, you know, I think we've
- 35:36Speaker 5: got to do a better job in the passing game
- 35:38Speaker 5: there as well.
- 35:40Speaker 29: And Coach September twenty is twenty twenty four, you led
- 35:43Speaker 29: Consult to its first ever win against crosstown rival College
- 35:46Speaker 29: Station High School. As close as the games in this
- 35:49Speaker 29: series have ben, what are you taking from last year's
- 35:52Speaker 29: breakthrough win as your team prepares for this Friday's game.
- 35:56Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I think I think when you go through,
- 35:59Speaker 5: you know, a period of years where there's a losing
- 36:01Speaker 5: streak against an opponent, I think sometimes maybe you kind
- 36:05Speaker 5: of carry that weight with you. And and I thought
- 36:08Speaker 5: last year was big for us just as far as
- 36:11Speaker 5: kind of getting that weight off of us, and just
- 36:14Speaker 5: I think that what that's going to enable us to do.
- 36:16Speaker 5: I hope this year is to just go out there
- 36:18Speaker 5: and play really worry free and just build to turn
- 36:22Speaker 5: it loose and play our best game.
- 36:24Speaker 15: Mm hmm.
- 36:25Speaker 29: And last year, your first loss was a season ending
- 36:28Speaker 29: playoff loss that came in your thirteenth game of the season.
- 36:31Speaker 28: This season, your first loss happened in Week two.
- 36:33Speaker 29: What are some of the positive aspects of an early
- 36:35Speaker 29: season loss and how might that help you get ready
- 36:38Speaker 29: to play the Cougars.
- 36:40Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, you know, I like to think that
- 36:43Speaker 5: I'm beyond the point in my career where the wins
- 36:45Speaker 5: is losses, where the wins and losses matter. But I
- 36:48Speaker 5: do think that there's a lot of you know, there's
- 36:50Speaker 5: a lot of mental swings, ups and downs through the
- 36:53Speaker 5: course of a season. And I do think that when
- 36:56Speaker 5: you go through a season undefeated like we did, last year.
- 36:58Speaker 5: I think, you know, sometimes complacency can set in and
- 37:02Speaker 5: so you know, early season loss or really at any point,
- 37:05Speaker 5: you know, I don't I don't think that's something that's
- 37:07Speaker 5: a that's that big of a deal and something to
- 37:09Speaker 5: worry about. It's just like any other game. Come back
- 37:12Speaker 5: out there and get to work the next week, and uh,
- 37:14Speaker 5: you know, keep doing good the things that you're doing good,
- 37:16Speaker 5: and fix the things that.
- 37:17Speaker 6: Need to be fixed.
- 37:19Speaker 19: Uh.
- 37:19Speaker 5: You know, we lost to a to a really good
- 37:21Speaker 5: team last week with a lot of really talented players,
- 37:24Speaker 5: and so that's that's nothing to be ashamed of, but
- 37:27Speaker 5: it is an opportunity to kind of hit the reset
- 37:28Speaker 5: button and figure out what needs to be fixed.
- 37:31Speaker 29: And can you talk about kind of what you're expecting
- 37:33Speaker 29: this Friday. I didn't see the game last year, but
- 37:38Speaker 29: just how are you're expecting your teams to clash and
- 37:40Speaker 29: and what kind.
- 37:41Speaker 28: Of weaknesses you're looking for in strengths on the field.
- 37:44Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, they coach Pryor does a great job
- 37:46Speaker 5: over there. They have a great program, they got they
- 37:49Speaker 5: got great kids, really talented and it's going to be
- 37:53Speaker 5: a tremendous environment. It'll be you know, there will be
- 37:55Speaker 5: eight thousand people there. The stands will be packed, it'll
- 37:57Speaker 5: be standing room only, so just an awesome environment. It's
- 38:01Speaker 5: it's such a great community event. And uh, and you know, really,
- 38:06Speaker 5: you know, what I expect is for it to be
- 38:08Speaker 5: a one score game in the fourth quarter. It's going
- 38:10Speaker 5: to boil down to who executes better and who eliminates
- 38:13Speaker 5: turnovers and and who can who can you know, score
- 38:17Speaker 5: points on key drives. So it's it's really just, uh,
- 38:20Speaker 5: this game is so much fun. Uh, you know, to
- 38:23Speaker 5: my first year here, it was a one score game,
- 38:25Speaker 5: and last year it was it was one was tied
- 38:27Speaker 5: in the fourth quarter. And and really I don't expect
- 38:29Speaker 5: anything different this year. It's two good teams getting after it,
- 38:33Speaker 5: and it's happens to be a rivalry game, so it'll
- 38:35Speaker 5: it'll be an awesome environment and a lot of fun.
- 38:38Speaker 28: That's fun.
- 38:39Speaker 29: And there is one big difference this year in your team.
- 38:42Speaker 29: If I'm not mistaken, you have a new starting quarterback,
- 38:45Speaker 29: Holed Goodwin.
- 38:47Speaker 5: Yeah, it's you know, really for us right now, we're
- 38:49Speaker 5: fortunate we got two really good quarterbacks, hold good Win
- 38:52Speaker 5: in Marie Moore. And uh, and really it's it's weak
- 38:55Speaker 5: to week with those two guys as far as who's
- 38:57Speaker 5: going to be the starter and who's going to get
- 38:59Speaker 5: the snaps, and uh, I mean really it's we have.
- 39:01Speaker 5: We have tremendous confidence in both of them, and we're
- 39:03Speaker 5: fortunate to be in a place where we have two
- 39:06Speaker 5: two good quarterbacks that we trust both of them to
- 39:09Speaker 5: be on the field.
- 39:10Speaker 29: Yeah, and and talk about some of the differences between
- 39:14Speaker 29: how your team plays with your two quarterbacks this year
- 39:17Speaker 29: and then Will Hargat last year.
- 39:19Speaker 6: Uh.
- 39:20Speaker 5: You know, the two guys we have this year, they're
- 39:22Speaker 5: both they're both young, they're both first year varsity guys,
- 39:25Speaker 5: you know, and we're early on in the season. So
- 39:27Speaker 5: I still I think both of those guys are still
- 39:29Speaker 5: trying to work through some some jitters, you know sometimes,
- 39:32Speaker 5: Whereas Will had been on varsity since his freshman year,
- 39:34Speaker 5: and I thought, you know, for Will, you know, I
- 39:37Speaker 5: thought there was never a there was never a stage
- 39:39Speaker 5: that was too big for Will. And so, you know, Will,
- 39:42Speaker 5: Will was you know, he was calm and cool. Uh
- 39:45Speaker 5: and and just you know, he let the game kind
- 39:48Speaker 5: of come to him.
- 39:49Speaker 21: Uh.
- 39:49Speaker 5: You know, the two young guys we have right now,
- 39:51Speaker 5: they're going to have to go out there and you know,
- 39:53Speaker 5: we're gonna have to, you know, have some play call
- 39:55Speaker 5: and early on it's going to calm those two guys
- 39:57Speaker 5: down and allow them to settle in and and just
- 40:00Speaker 5: kind of getting the rhythm of the game.
- 40:02Speaker 28: Yeah, that's exciting. Last question here for you.
- 40:05Speaker 29: Last season's twelve and one record was one of the
- 40:08Speaker 29: best seasons in A and M consolidated football history.
- 40:11Speaker 28: I know it's only your third.
- 40:12Speaker 29: Season, I can soul, but how satisfied are you with
- 40:14Speaker 29: the progress you and your staff have made towards establishing
- 40:17Speaker 29: this program as a serious contender for state championship.
- 40:22Speaker 5: Well, until we can consistently play football in December, you know,
- 40:25Speaker 5: I don't know how. You know, that's the goal for us,
- 40:29Speaker 5: to be a serious contender for a state championship, but
- 40:31Speaker 5: I don't know that we've reached that goal yet. And
- 40:35Speaker 5: you know, really, until we can consistently play football in December,
- 40:37Speaker 5: none of that stuff matters. So great season last year,
- 40:40Speaker 5: and so proud of our kids and our coaches for
- 40:42Speaker 5: what we did last year. But ultimately we got to
- 40:45Speaker 5: get to play December football.
- 40:47Speaker 28: Yeah, of course, always great speaking.
- 40:49Speaker 1: With you, coach.
- 40:51Speaker 5: I appreciate you, Matt, Thank you.
- 40:52Speaker 28: Yes, sir, thank you. I go on high School.

- 43:52Speaker 18: of the first, but the Rangers came back with three
- 43:54Speaker 18: in the fifth to grab the lead, but only temporarily.

- 45:18Speaker 4: Pres Hey, thanks for being with us on a Tuesday.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I'm in Mazelle in the second hour, Mallory in the
- 45:39Speaker 1: second hour of the program, I've already talked a little
- 45:45Speaker 1: bit about last night. We've got Astros Rangers at six forty.
- 45:50Speaker 1: This evening, Jack Lighter gave up five runs, but only
- 45:54Speaker 1: two of them were earned. He was the cause of
- 45:58Speaker 1: one of them, you know, one of the urn runs.
- 46:03Speaker 1: I should say, I think I think threw the ball
- 46:06Speaker 1: in the right field. A two runs score on that.
- 46:09Speaker 6: Maybe not.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Uh, anyway, it wasn't pretty. I think that was was
- 46:16Speaker 1: that the first inning was that when Jordan came in
- 46:20Speaker 1: and turned his zak. If you saw that slow motion,
- 46:22Speaker 1: it did not look good. Yeah, it was the first
- 46:25Speaker 1: inning he made that error. But not to be outdone,
- 46:29Speaker 1: they had another error. And then they just they had
- 46:32Speaker 1: a couple of plays that they didn't turn double plays,
- 46:36Speaker 1: and and and and you know, Simmon and Siegar aren't
- 46:41Speaker 1: the lineup. There's the play right there. They're showing it
- 46:44Speaker 1: right there. And that was ugly. I don't even want
- 46:47Speaker 1: to watch it again. I mean, he turned it really badly,
- 46:51Speaker 1: and I'm just telling you it does not look good
- 46:58Speaker 1: for your don Alvarez again, show uh seven to ten tonight.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Let's hear from Jack Lighter after the loss.
- 47:09Speaker 12: Jack, I know, is a bit of a rocky first inning,
- 47:11Speaker 12: but then it seemed like you really got into your
- 47:13Speaker 12: groove until the seventh. At what point did the workload
- 47:16Speaker 12: just kind.
- 47:16Speaker 4: Of catch up to you?
- 47:21Speaker 19: I mean, I don't know. I think it's one of
- 47:26Speaker 19: those things like I just didn't make I didn't execute
- 47:29Speaker 19: the first two to Sanchez and then got behind three
- 47:32Speaker 19: to Oho and three O swings are kind of what
- 47:35Speaker 19: you want as a pitcher. It just happened to be
- 47:37Speaker 19: fall off the wall, so that was unfortunate. And then yeah,
- 47:42Speaker 19: three bad pitches to Pania, and you could get away
- 47:45Speaker 19: with one mistake to a good hitter like that, but
- 47:50Speaker 19: you know three of them, bad things tend to happen.
- 47:53Speaker 19: So I wouldn't say the workload got to me. I
- 47:56Speaker 19: think I just didn't make the pitch when I needed
- 47:58Speaker 19: to there in the last inning, in.
- 48:00Speaker 12: That first inting after that hit from Korea, I just
- 48:04Speaker 12: what kind of unfolded after that, Yeah, I.
- 48:09Speaker 19: Mean bass hit got ahead, opinion, and then Alvarez obviously
- 48:15Speaker 19: a really good hitter, so fell behind him and wasn't
- 48:19Speaker 19: going to give in. And then yeah, Korea a ball
- 48:24Speaker 19: like that after two base runners to start the game.
- 48:26Speaker 19: You're just attacking it. That's that's an out that you
- 48:29Speaker 19: want to turn into an out. And maybe maybe ran
- 48:33Speaker 19: too aggressively or something to cause the slip.
- 48:37Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 48:38Speaker 19: It was just one of those unfortunate things. And then
- 48:40Speaker 19: tried to make a good throw from from a position
- 48:43Speaker 19: you never really make a throw from and threw it away.
- 48:45Speaker 19: So that was obviously about as tough of a start
- 48:49Speaker 19: to the game as you could have.
- 48:52Speaker 17: You felt physically a little good in the seventh.
- 48:54Speaker 6: And yeah, yeah, I was.
- 48:58Speaker 19: I was grateful that they, uh they kept me out
- 49:00Speaker 19: there and uh I those are the moments that you
- 49:05Speaker 19: kind of want to be in and pitching deep into
- 49:07Speaker 19: a game and obviously didn't get the job done, but
- 49:12Speaker 19: I was. I was excited to be out there for that.
- 49:16Speaker 35: The pitch that was hit for the home run, were
- 49:18Speaker 35: you trying to were you trying to go up because
- 49:20Speaker 35: it seemed like you accomplished that.
- 49:22Speaker 19: Yeah, Yeah, it's one of those things. Maybe you gotta
- 49:30Speaker 19: look back at the scouting report, but that's where I
- 49:32Speaker 19: wanted to throw it fastball up and in and after
- 49:35Speaker 19: a lot of a lot of soft down that was
- 49:37Speaker 19: kind of just getting fouled off. But obviously there's there's
- 49:40Speaker 19: regrets on pitch selection after a homer. But did execute
- 49:44Speaker 19: what I wanted to do?
- 49:45Speaker 17: I know, stuff swings back and forth. There's gonna be
- 49:48Speaker 17: days where the bullpen bill starters out and vice versa.
- 49:51Speaker 17: But the bullpen was obviously pretty thin today. What position
- 49:54Speaker 17: does that put you in as a starter in terms
- 49:56Speaker 17: of knowing you need to go.
- 49:57Speaker 15: And kind of eat up and watch or something.
- 50:00Speaker 19: Yeah, especially after a long first inning, it it kind
- 50:02Speaker 19: of becomes uh extra attack mode, I guess, and uh,
- 50:07Speaker 19: make them, make them hit it, and if they're going
- 50:09Speaker 19: to score, make them just keep putting the ball in
- 50:11Speaker 19: play and kind of submit yourself to the batted balls
- 50:17Speaker 19: and play.
- 50:17Speaker 6: Look.
- 50:17Speaker 19: But fortunate enough to get some quick outs and get
- 50:22Speaker 19: deep in the game and cover cover for the pen
- 50:24Speaker 19: a little bit. It's just obviously there's always frustration with
- 50:26Speaker 19: games like these. There's a lot of little frustrating things,
- 50:29Speaker 19: and like this easily could have been, you know, a
- 50:34Speaker 19: much deeper game even.
- 50:36Speaker 1: All right, that was Jack lighter afterward. And you know,
- 50:40Speaker 1: in fairness, he brought the first two runs on himself
- 50:45Speaker 1: with with a throwing error. And then he he said
- 50:50Speaker 1: he executed the pitch that he wanted to to Zach Cole.
- 50:54Speaker 1: I thought it. He said it was up high, man.
- 50:59Speaker 1: It looked like to me it caught a big part
- 51:03Speaker 1: of the of the plate. But he's got a great fastball.
- 51:07Speaker 1: I don't think he uses it enough quite frankly. But
- 51:13Speaker 1: mad Jordan goes down and the kid comes in and
- 51:17Speaker 1: has a two run homer and knocks in another run
- 51:21Speaker 1: in the seventh inning. So he's he's been he's been good.
- 51:28Speaker 1: He ain't your done. But you know what, last night,
- 51:33Speaker 1: I'm not sure your don would have done what he did, frankly,
- 51:38Speaker 1: So all right, Bruce Bochie man, I don't question Bruce
- 51:44Speaker 1: Bochie very much. I think he's one of the top
- 51:48Speaker 1: two or three managers in baseball and has been for
- 51:50Speaker 1: a long time. And I think the Rangers are not
- 51:53Speaker 1: in this position without Bruce Bochie. He made some head
- 51:56Speaker 1: scratching decisions last night. Here's Bochie after.
- 51:59Speaker 12: The game, Buches just felt like a messy game with
- 52:02Speaker 12: some missed opportunities that this team can't afford right now.
- 52:05Speaker 12: So what's your reaction to this one.
- 52:07Speaker 6: Yeah, it wasn't our cleanest game. You know, a couple
- 52:09Speaker 6: of hours really costs us today. You know, Jack tried
- 52:13Speaker 6: to make a play there, threw it away, and then
- 52:17Speaker 6: that ball Burger ain't picks that, you know, probably not
- 52:21Speaker 6: out of ten times. And then their kid that came
- 52:24Speaker 6: in the game. He did some damage against us today
- 52:26Speaker 6: and I wasn't quite where Jack probably wanted to put it.
- 52:31Speaker 6: So anyway, yeah, we had some chances to break it open.
- 52:35Speaker 12: To what degree did the bullpen usage the last couple
- 52:38Speaker 12: of days dictate your decision to leave Jack in there
- 52:40Speaker 12: in the seventh?
- 52:42Speaker 6: Well, he was fine. Jack was fine. That's that's not
- 52:44Speaker 6: a lot of pitches for him. And you know we
- 52:47Speaker 6: gave up that flying ball that just was deep enough
- 52:50Speaker 6: to hit the wall and hung a slider. But yeah,
- 52:53Speaker 6: bullpen has been used quite a bit, so the plane
- 52:56Speaker 6: was you know, to get as deep as we could
- 52:59Speaker 6: with him.
- 53:00Speaker 12: I know you're managing a lot right now. There's a
- 53:02Speaker 12: lot of things you're wing. So what went into that
- 53:04Speaker 12: decision to pinch run for Talas rather than Jonah.
- 53:10Speaker 6: Well, I wanted Higgy available to hit that spot there
- 53:14Speaker 6: when if they had left it for Peterson. So yeah,
- 53:18Speaker 6: you know, with us out there, yeah, I wanted to
- 53:22Speaker 6: put some speed.
- 53:24Speaker 15: I didn't.
- 53:25Speaker 6: I don't know if you know anybody would have scored
- 53:29Speaker 6: on that ball, you know, but you know that's that's
- 53:33Speaker 6: the move that we decided to go with. And I
- 53:35Speaker 6: wanted to keep jon in the game. Haiggy ready to
- 53:38Speaker 6: pinch head.
- 53:39Speaker 1: Okay, I mean that's an explanation. But the pinch runner
- 53:43Speaker 1: was he put in at first base, not at second base.
- 53:47Speaker 1: I said last night, I'm not sure Jonah him on
- 53:51Speaker 1: second base could have scored on a triple quite frankly,
- 53:54Speaker 1: I mean I'm talking slow right, He's thrown out by
- 53:58Speaker 1: fifteen feet. Now. Tony Peasley, the third base coach, owned it.
- 54:05Speaker 1: He said, look, I'm looking at who's supposed to be up,
- 54:08Speaker 1: I'm looking at the situation. I'm gonna make them make
- 54:12Speaker 1: a play in that situation. But that was the game.
- 54:17Speaker 1: You know, they got the hit they needed and it
- 54:25Speaker 1: and him just gets thrown out by a mile. And
- 54:29Speaker 1: after that, I think the air went out of the
- 54:31Speaker 1: sales quite frankly, because they were, like I said, Langford
- 54:37Speaker 1: daven the hit. They did everything they were supposed to
- 54:40Speaker 1: do except for jonah Heim scoring from And I do
- 54:43Speaker 1: agree with Bochee. You know, I'm not sure they had
- 54:48Speaker 1: a player that could score from second base on that
- 54:51Speaker 1: ball hit pretty hard. It was into shallow left field.
- 54:56Speaker 1: But even at that, you know, they got to make
- 54:58Speaker 1: the throw and and they did. But Man I did not.
- 55:04Speaker 1: I still didn't understand the idea. And he talked about
- 55:12Speaker 1: having available, you know, higging for the pinch hitting, but
- 55:18Speaker 1: man didn't understand it. And of course it looked even
- 55:22Speaker 1: worse when him gets thrown out so bad because there's
- 55:24Speaker 1: no way he's scoring. He he's probably not as slow
- 55:30Speaker 1: as I am. But I'm just telling you it's pretty close.
- 55:35Speaker 1: It is pretty close. Marble Craft been part of our
