- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me
- 0:08Speaker 1: covering One Piece episodes eight nineteen and eight twenty Sora's Wish,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Germa's failure Soany and to Reach Soany, Lufy's vengeful hell
- 0:24Speaker 1: bent Dash. In these episodes, we find out why Sony
- 0:34Speaker 1: is a failure of this experiment, and I wasn't even
- 0:38Speaker 1: like asking the question why is he a failure? I
- 0:42Speaker 1: was just like, well, you know, it's new science. Sometimes
- 0:45Speaker 1: things don't work out, but it turns out it's a
- 0:48Speaker 1: lot more than that.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Actually.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Welcome to spoil Me. Welcome to the show everyone. I
- 1:12Speaker 1: am Natasha. Thank you very much to Florian for commissioning
- 1:16Speaker 1: this episode. You know, I understand, guys, when you book
- 1:22Speaker 1: these episodes that a lot of times you kind of
- 1:24Speaker 1: like have to pick whatever slot is available because I
- 1:27Speaker 1: get booked fast. But I have to say I really
- 1:30Speaker 1: enjoy recording one Piece early in the slots, especially because
- 1:37Speaker 1: usually the way that my schedule works out is I'm
- 1:40Speaker 1: able to listen to audiobook stuff like the day before
- 1:43Speaker 1: I do my recordings, but I wait and almost always
- 1:47Speaker 1: watch one Piece on the day, and I usually try
- 1:50Speaker 1: and watch it pretty close to when I start recording,
- 1:53Speaker 1: and it's just nice if I like today, I finished
- 1:56Speaker 1: watching it about twenty minutes before I had to start here,
- 2:00Speaker 1: and so it's just very fresh in my mind, and
- 2:02Speaker 1: it's nice to go immediately from watching to recording, because
- 2:06Speaker 1: mostly I don't get to do that a lot, you know,
- 2:09Speaker 1: I uh, there's almost always a delay between when I
- 2:13Speaker 1: watch and consume something versus when I'm actually able to
- 2:16Speaker 1: like talk about it finally, So this is a treat.
- 2:22Speaker 1: And I saw the title on this one, you know,
- 2:26Speaker 1: I try to avoid that, but this time I didn't
- 2:28Speaker 1: manage it. And I saw Sora's last wish and I
- 2:32Speaker 1: was like, who surah am? I supposed to know who
- 2:35Speaker 1: that is? And that is evidently Soanji's mom's name. Remind
- 2:41Speaker 1: me Florian's here in the chat what Soanjie's sister's name is,
- 2:47Speaker 1: because I know it's the word for zero, but I
- 2:49Speaker 1: cannot remember what that actually is. So this the more
- 2:55Speaker 1: that I'm like kind of stepping back and looking at
- 2:57Speaker 1: the way things have shaken out with this story, the
- 3:01Speaker 1: more convinced I am becoming that his sister was poking
- 3:06Speaker 1: around and it was putting who took her out. I
- 3:10Speaker 1: was really last episode kind of like it seemed like
- 3:13Speaker 1: she didn't know what had happened to her. But of
- 3:16Speaker 1: course she acts like that when there's when she's in
- 3:19Speaker 1: the hall and there's potential for other people to see,
- 3:23Speaker 1: and she actually shows us the gun she's planning on
- 3:27Speaker 1: using at the wedding and this girl got shot, you
- 3:31Speaker 1: know which, honestly, in one Piece guns aren't really like there.
- 3:38Speaker 1: It's not like they're unusual, but they really don't seem
- 3:42Speaker 1: to be the weapon of choice a lot. So it
- 3:46Speaker 1: seems obvious to me now looking at it that like, yeah,
- 3:50Speaker 1: she was trying to snoop and Putting caught her. She
- 3:54Speaker 1: was on the balcony of Pudding's room and Putting shot her.
- 4:00Speaker 1: She managed to get far enough away that Putting had
- 4:03Speaker 1: to put her like you know, company face back on
- 4:06Speaker 1: and then dragged her back into her room. And so
- 4:10Speaker 1: this is part of why she unloads on his sister
- 4:13Speaker 1: about their real plans before taking her memories, because it's like,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you know, while you were snooping around, So let me
- 4:19Speaker 1: go ahead and tell you, because it isn't even going
- 4:21Speaker 1: to matter that I told you. Raise you, says Florian,
- 4:26Speaker 1: thank you, and she is when we open this episode,
- 4:34Speaker 1: she's in bed in the hospital, and I just want
- 4:38Speaker 1: to mention that the little touches like mostly you can
- 4:46Speaker 1: you can see the influence of like the food stuff
- 4:49Speaker 1: in a general sense, where the doors on this wardrobe
- 4:52Speaker 1: look like Graham crackers, you know, or or the actual
- 4:57Speaker 1: like because there's sort of these old fashioned and frame beds.
- 5:01Speaker 1: The frames look like they're striped like candy canes, and
- 5:05Speaker 1: all of that stuff is dope and I love it.
- 5:09Speaker 1: But my personal favorite touch in this room is that
- 5:13Speaker 1: the pillows are shaped like big wrapped candies. I want
- 5:19Speaker 1: a pillow like this, very much like they probably are
- 5:24Speaker 1: out there, you know, making things look like candies as
- 5:29Speaker 1: a cutesy thing that is not unheard of, especially for
- 5:31Speaker 1: like children's stuff. So I'm sure this exists, but I
- 5:36Speaker 1: often when you see things like this, they're made somewhat
- 5:39Speaker 1: small for children or just to be like decor. But
- 5:44Speaker 1: I want, like an actual adult, regular size pillow that
- 5:49Speaker 1: looks like this. I just think it is so cute.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And we have this doctor here who he's evidently like
- 5:59Speaker 1: they're only doctor and is overworked because as he's leaving,
- 6:04Speaker 1: he's just like there's a bunch of people in the
- 6:07Speaker 1: infirmary over here that I've got to go look at,
- 6:10Speaker 1: and I bet I'm not even gonna be able to
- 6:12Speaker 1: get any sleep before the wedding tomorrow. But he's not
- 6:18Speaker 1: worried about her recovery. He says that she has un
- 6:23Speaker 1: naturally thick skin and quick healing, and probably by tomorrow
- 6:29Speaker 1: she will be perfectly fine to go to the wedding
- 6:33Speaker 1: as long as she is given a full night's rest.
- 6:38Speaker 1: He leaves, and Sanji there's like a single pawn guard
- 6:45Speaker 1: in the medical wing. Sanji comes in, kicks this dude
- 6:50Speaker 1: into unconsciousness and then dumps him into a little like
- 6:55Speaker 1: side area, draws the curtains, and goes and talks to
- 6:59Speaker 1: his sister and immediately is like, hey, your memories were
- 7:05Speaker 1: fucked with. Here's what's really going on. And I really appreciated,
- 7:10Speaker 1: Like the way that he is looking at all of
- 7:13Speaker 1: this is just I can't believe that I really thought
- 7:18Speaker 1: I had found a way to make it so that
- 7:21Speaker 1: like things kind of worked out for the best. I
- 7:25Speaker 1: thought if I took one for the team, it would
- 7:28Speaker 1: be okay. And now I'm looking at it, like, how
- 7:32Speaker 1: was I that stupid? How could I have thought that
- 7:36Speaker 1: and I don't. I'm not mad at you for this, Sanji.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I understand him being annoyed with himself, but just for
- 7:43Speaker 1: the record, I want to say, I think you were
- 7:49Speaker 1: just doing the best you could in a situation that
- 7:52Speaker 1: seemed to have no good options in it. You know,
- 7:58Speaker 1: it just seems to me like when you are faced
- 8:02Speaker 1: with things like this, you try to find a way,
- 8:06Speaker 1: and you try to you want to believe the best
- 8:13Speaker 1: of the people that you're dealing with as well, because
- 8:17Speaker 1: if you don't have faith that they will uphold their
- 8:21Speaker 1: end of things, then the situation turns into something that's
- 8:25Speaker 1: completely hopeless. And we really can't bear for things to
- 8:30Speaker 1: be completely hopeless, understandably, Like, I am not mad at that.
- 8:34Speaker 1: So he's so angry at himself, and I totally get why.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I'm not mocking his feelings on this at all, but
- 8:44Speaker 1: I just want to say, like, for myself, I am
- 8:49Speaker 1: not judging him. And sometimes you want to think that
- 8:57Speaker 1: if you work within a system, that you're going to
- 9:02Speaker 1: be able to find some kind of loophole that makes
- 9:04Speaker 1: things work out, and I get it. You know. The
- 9:09Speaker 1: thing is with most systems, the way that they are
- 9:14Speaker 1: structured is explicitly to fuck you, and so they are
- 9:21Speaker 1: explicitly made to not be kind of gamed by the
- 9:26Speaker 1: average person. The only people who can gain a lot
- 9:30Speaker 1: of systems are the folks who already have some power,
- 9:33Speaker 1: whether that be socially or financially. But I could see
- 9:40Speaker 1: why he might think I have a little social clout here.
- 9:44Speaker 1: You know, I am the Vince Smoke family that she
- 9:47Speaker 1: wants to marry so much. I am somebody that like,
- 9:50Speaker 1: if I dig my heels in and make this difficult,
- 9:52Speaker 1: it's going to be frustrating, and you know, could maybe
- 9:57Speaker 1: put all of this on hold for a while. So like, overall,
- 10:02Speaker 1: I just want to say that I really, you know,
- 10:05Speaker 1: I was sitting there along with him, kind of being like,
- 10:10Speaker 1: maybe even though the you know, two of them, Lufi
- 10:15Speaker 1: and Nami are captured and being held in this book thing,
- 10:20Speaker 1: maybe that doesn't mean anything. Maybe it's still gonna work
- 10:23Speaker 1: out somehow. Like I was even telling myself this, even though,
- 10:28Speaker 1: when have we come across a villain in this series
- 10:34Speaker 1: that really like adheres to their word on that kind
- 10:38Speaker 1: of front, you know. And it also solves the mystery
- 10:42Speaker 1: of why it seemed a big mom was willing to
- 10:45Speaker 1: like play ball with him at all when he really
- 10:47Speaker 1: didn't have any leverage, like in a real sense. And
- 10:54Speaker 1: it turns out she was willing to do this because
- 10:56Speaker 1: it wasn't real. She wasn't actually willing to do this.
- 11:01Speaker 1: She was just playing along because it would get him
- 11:04Speaker 1: to behave And you know, I have already said a
- 11:10Speaker 1: few times that I admire that big Mom is just
- 11:16Speaker 1: so like practical and on her shit. I won't take
- 11:21Speaker 1: that back. This is a really good way to handle it.
- 11:25Speaker 1: If he thinks he's making a deal with you and
- 11:27Speaker 1: this is going to get him to keep fucking quiet. Yeah, great,
- 11:33Speaker 1: I take advantage of this too. If I were evil.
- 11:36Speaker 1: It's hard to argue with. So I just really uh
- 11:42Speaker 1: this whole thing. I feel so bad because he is
- 11:45Speaker 1: just really blaming himself. And the truth is, Bro, you
- 11:51Speaker 1: could not have stopped this, no matter what great idea
- 11:55Speaker 1: you came up with. The way that it's all going
- 11:59Speaker 1: at the moment is just sort of like, this isn't
- 12:03Speaker 1: a train that you can pull brakes on. You don't
- 12:06Speaker 1: have anything to work with. Both sides don't give a
- 12:11Speaker 1: fuck about you, including your own family, So it totally sucks, Like,
- 12:16Speaker 1: don't get me wrong. But he really seems to be
- 12:20Speaker 1: kind of beating himself up in the sense of like
- 12:22Speaker 1: if I had just done something different or not been
- 12:25Speaker 1: so stupid, And honestly, I don't really think that's anything.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I don't think that if you had done anything else
- 12:33Speaker 1: it would have changed how this is going right now.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Anything that's gonna change is going to happen because the
- 12:40Speaker 1: straw hats are coming in and handling some shit. But like,
- 12:45Speaker 1: as far as you from the inside, you've got no power.
- 12:49Speaker 1: You did what you thought you could. It didn't work out,
- 12:52Speaker 1: But this was a good idea if you had been
- 12:54Speaker 1: dealing with somebody else, it was a good effort, you know.
- 12:58Speaker 1: And even going so far as to like try and
- 13:00Speaker 1: embrace what his relationship is going to be with putting
- 13:05Speaker 1: he is doing his best. He really is. I just
- 13:10Speaker 1: don't I'm not mad at you, Sanji. As somebody who
- 13:14Speaker 1: is currently at this very moment in twenty twenty five,
- 13:20Speaker 1: feeling locked in a system that gives no fucks about me,
- 13:28Speaker 1: my opinion, my well being, or that of any of
- 13:31Speaker 1: my peers, I deeply understand what it feels like to
- 13:37Speaker 1: just try anything because you genuinely have no other options,
- 13:44Speaker 1: but to sort of flail at nothing, knowing the whole time,
- 13:48Speaker 1: by the way, as you're flailing that it's probably not
- 13:52Speaker 1: gonna work, but also kind of being aware they want
- 13:58Speaker 1: you to believe that it's like not going to work.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Part of the way that things are structured right now
- 14:05Speaker 1: is they are overwhelming us on purpose to make those
- 14:09Speaker 1: of us who are trying to resist feel beaten down
- 14:13Speaker 1: and overwhelmed, so that we just start to tune out.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And like I would, I really want to draw a
- 14:20Speaker 1: distinction here. I'm not going to say on this topic
- 14:23Speaker 1: too long, don't worry, but like there's a difference between
- 14:26Speaker 1: totally tuning out and being careful with how much news
- 14:31Speaker 1: you consume. Because I am doing that ladder, I am
- 14:35Speaker 1: trying to not be in it all the time because
- 14:39Speaker 1: it is it's genuinely too much. This method works of
- 14:43Speaker 1: overwhelming us, it works especially considering the way that social
- 14:48Speaker 1: media has become so ubiquitous for all of us on
- 14:51Speaker 1: our downtime. They have taken advantage of that and made
- 14:54Speaker 1: it so that we are any time we're like kind
- 14:58Speaker 1: of not working, we are consuming a bunch of things
- 15:04Speaker 1: that are bad news, toxic shit, and also We're in
- 15:09Speaker 1: comment sections full of people who seem to suck but
- 15:14Speaker 1: may not even be real people they met. Many of
- 15:16Speaker 1: them are bots, you know. So I don't think tuning
- 15:22Speaker 1: out is the right call, but I understand the temptation,
- 15:24Speaker 1: and I am personally really trying to just like dial
- 15:28Speaker 1: back my consumption overall a little bit, because I know
- 15:31Speaker 1: how this feels, and just the whole thing with Sanjy
- 15:35Speaker 1: just feels weirdly a little bit like that of like,
- 15:39Speaker 1: even though this is garbage and I hate it, there's
- 15:42Speaker 1: a part of me that thinks, maybe if I can
- 15:44Speaker 1: like accept an aspect of it and try and make
- 15:48Speaker 1: the best of it and then negotiate out of other
- 15:51Speaker 1: parts of it, maybe I can find a place where,
- 15:57Speaker 1: you know, my reality isn't so terrible and I'm not
- 16:01Speaker 1: so fucking miserable, And you know, it's a great thought.
- 16:08Speaker 1: I understand this as a method. And when you're dealing
- 16:15Speaker 1: with monsters, any kind of attempt to negotiate with them
- 16:20Speaker 1: is foolhardy at best. They do not care if you
- 16:27Speaker 1: wind up being okay. When it comes down to it,
- 16:31Speaker 1: they see you as a joke, and they see any
- 16:35Speaker 1: attempt on your part to try and negotiate as like
- 16:40Speaker 1: a perfect opportunity to further humiliate and exploit you, you know,
- 16:46Speaker 1: And I was just sort of hoping that maybe that
- 16:52Speaker 1: wasn't how it went with Big Mom on a certain level.
- 16:55Speaker 1: On a certain level I could. I knew obviously from
- 16:59Speaker 1: what we have seen so far, a lot of the
- 17:02Speaker 1: way that she operates is utterly ruthless and exploitative, you know,
- 17:06Speaker 1: the way that we saw them raiding all of these
- 17:09Speaker 1: neighboring islands for supplies for this wedding. Clearly, but sometimes
- 17:17Speaker 1: people who suck ass they reserve their respect for folks
- 17:22Speaker 1: that they see as on their own level. And not
- 17:26Speaker 1: that they won't try and like totally swindle them too,
- 17:29Speaker 1: but they'll be more cautious about it. They'll be a
- 17:31Speaker 1: little bit less open with it. So I was sort
- 17:35Speaker 1: of thinking, maybe, you know, And I also I should
- 17:40Speaker 1: mention too that, like I was talking last time about
- 17:45Speaker 1: how Putting is mocking soany and just you know, his
- 17:50Speaker 1: overall gullibility and YadA YadA when she's talking to his sister,
- 17:56Speaker 1: but she actually specifically mentioned that Sanji is a failure
- 18:03Speaker 1: and a joke. And I can't believe that, you guys,
- 18:07Speaker 1: offered me him at least offer me like a real prince.
- 18:12Speaker 1: And I am wondering if this is like related to
- 18:17Speaker 1: his brothers who have no emotions, because it seems like,
- 18:21Speaker 1: you know, she is so cold hearted that she sees
- 18:26Speaker 1: his brothers as actually being a potentially like valid match
- 18:30Speaker 1: with her, But the fact that he is compassionate and
- 18:33Speaker 1: has any sort of emotion is just as repellent to
- 18:37Speaker 1: her as it is to his father. And that also
- 18:43Speaker 1: very much hurt to see because finding out that you're
- 18:47Speaker 1: the person that you were ready to like kind of
- 18:49Speaker 1: open yourself up to and be vulnerable with has the
- 18:52Speaker 1: same opinion of you for the same reasons as the
- 18:57Speaker 1: people who disowned you and repeatedly abuse used you. That
- 19:02Speaker 1: is devastating. It's like so particularly awful. Sorry, I just
- 19:10Speaker 1: saw Sarah M says, you don't get to be one
- 19:12Speaker 1: of the four greatest pirates in the world without knowing
- 19:14Speaker 1: how to handle stuff them. Having the ability and clear
- 19:16Speaker 1: willingness to kill Zef if he makes too much of
- 19:18Speaker 1: an issue really doesn't give him any good options. Yeah here,
- 19:22Speaker 1: and here's the thing too, I should mention that in
- 19:27Speaker 1: this scene, like eventually his sister is like is telling
- 19:31Speaker 1: him like, you gotta get the fuck out of here,
- 19:33Speaker 1: and he says something about if I do that, what
- 19:38Speaker 1: do you think will happen to Zef? And what she's
- 19:43Speaker 1: saying is get out of here before like the wedding
- 19:46Speaker 1: goes through. But I don't think that he should try
- 19:52Speaker 1: and get out before the wedding goes through. I'm gonna
- 19:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you, guys, because if he does, you know,
- 19:59Speaker 1: his family will indeed try and kills f maybe succeed.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Maybe I don't even need the word try in there
- 20:07Speaker 1: at all. But what if he was able to get
- 20:14Speaker 1: to a place where it is about to go down?
- 20:18Speaker 1: Like his sister actually says. And this is so funny
- 20:22Speaker 1: because it was another thing I had meant to address
- 20:24Speaker 1: last episode and I never got around to. But she's
- 20:28Speaker 1: talking to him about what she actually wants to happen
- 20:33Speaker 1: in this situation and actually says, I kind of just
- 20:39Speaker 1: want this to happen, Like I had my suspicions already
- 20:44Speaker 1: about putting because she was a little bit too perfect
- 20:52Speaker 1: for me. So when he's like telling her what really happened,
- 20:57Speaker 1: he's kind of thinking, oh, she's not gonna believe me,
- 21:00Speaker 1: But she immediately is like, no, I do. I knew
- 21:03Speaker 1: something was up, but she actually says to him, figure
- 21:14Speaker 1: out how to deal with a barratier after you've escaped,
- 21:20Speaker 1: And even if something were to happen to all of us,
- 21:25Speaker 1: I don't really care, because we fucking suck as a family,
- 21:32Speaker 1: and I have been made to obey father. He did
- 21:39Speaker 1: something to me to ensure my compliance with whatever he
- 21:44Speaker 1: said in my obedience. Now I'm a little confused by this, guys,
- 21:52Speaker 1: because later she tells him that the bracelets that he's
- 21:59Speaker 1: wearing aren't actually gonna blow his hands off. She switched
- 22:04Speaker 1: them out for regular ones, so they're not dangerous after all.
- 22:11Speaker 1: And I don't understand how she's able to do that
- 22:14Speaker 1: if she is meant to obey him, if there's something
- 22:19Speaker 1: in her that cannot disobey, isn't switching them out explicitly
- 22:24Speaker 1: disobeying him? I guess I don't understand how this thing
- 22:32Speaker 1: functions that he has because it may be perhaps that
- 22:36Speaker 1: simply like in the moment that he tells her something,
- 22:40Speaker 1: at that very exact moment, she must do what he says,
- 22:46Speaker 1: but that if he isn't there to directly influence her,
- 22:51Speaker 1: and she has like freedom from his presence that maybe
- 22:56Speaker 1: then she is able to do whatever it is that
- 23:01Speaker 1: she needs to do. I maybe it is like sort
- 23:04Speaker 1: of a he has to be there to kind of
- 23:08Speaker 1: activate that in her. Seraphim says, I get the impression
- 23:14Speaker 1: she has some wiggle room but has but has too
- 23:18Speaker 1: much programming to disobey a direct order. Florian says, as
- 23:23Speaker 1: I think of it, rage you can't see the light
- 23:26Speaker 1: and does not think she is deserving of rescue and
- 23:29Speaker 1: that it is not possible. Well, yeah, that definitely is it.
- 23:34Speaker 1: But I'm asking about like the explicit way that this
- 23:39Speaker 1: obey me function works and how she can have disobeyed
- 23:43Speaker 1: him then by giving Sanjy fake bracelets because and like
- 23:49Speaker 1: too much programming to disobey a direct order. That's that's
- 23:53Speaker 1: the part that I'm sort of like, it's a direct
- 23:56Speaker 1: order for her to put exploding cuffs on him, you know,
- 23:59Speaker 1: so I unless he didn't word it exactly that way,
- 24:07Speaker 1: but we don't get to actually like see if I
- 24:12Speaker 1: recall correctly like that exact moment. So I don't know,
- 24:19Speaker 1: but the fact that these things are not going to
- 24:24Speaker 1: blow up, I mean in a way, is a real
- 24:27Speaker 1: game changer. This helps, But I do just want to
- 24:32Speaker 1: acknowledge that I had a moment of sort of like
- 24:35Speaker 1: hold on, you know, in reaction to this. I love
- 24:41Speaker 1: the fact that he's got at least one ally in
- 24:45Speaker 1: the whole mix, you know, because if he truly were
- 24:50Speaker 1: fully just on his own, the way that he could
- 24:55Speaker 1: fall into despair and I wouldn't be mad at him
- 24:57Speaker 1: for it at all, it would be very, very very tempting.
- 25:01Speaker 1: So at least having her, even if this were to
- 25:05Speaker 1: not work out, having her on his side is something.
- 25:11Speaker 1: But I just don't I want to understand more fully
- 25:17Speaker 1: exactly how it is that this thing with her father works.
- 25:22Speaker 1: And you know, I get her because she says something
- 25:25Speaker 1: about how like I have a lot of blood on
- 25:27Speaker 1: my hands, or like my hands are really dirty, something
- 25:30Speaker 1: like that. So he's obviously made her do things in
- 25:33Speaker 1: the past that she can't live with and hates herself
- 25:37Speaker 1: for which I can't even imagine. Frankly, you know, like
- 25:42Speaker 1: I really get kind of being like the world's better
- 25:46Speaker 1: without me. But on the other hand, if your dad's
- 25:52Speaker 1: dead and you're free of him and that like that
- 25:58Speaker 1: obligation to do what he tells you to do, what
- 26:02Speaker 1: could you do with your life, then it could be
- 26:06Speaker 1: a whole new world for you. And I don't want
- 26:11Speaker 1: her to die in the mix, but I could kind
- 26:14Speaker 1: of see if it went that way. I'm trying to
- 26:19Speaker 1: sort of get a sense on how the show would
- 26:23Speaker 1: make things go, and there is a part of me
- 26:26Speaker 1: that feels like they might kill her because that she's
- 26:31Speaker 1: a perfect character that you kind of care about and
- 26:34Speaker 1: are rooting for, but who can also sacrifice themselves for
- 26:39Speaker 1: the good of everybody, and you would be genuinely like
- 26:43Speaker 1: sad about it, and it would feel like a real sacrifice.
- 26:47Speaker 1: So I'm kind of at a place in like with
- 26:51Speaker 1: my understanding of the storytelling of this world that probably
- 26:55Speaker 1: she isn't gonna make it because she is so she
- 26:58Speaker 1: is positioned in an idea deal spot to have a
- 27:02Speaker 1: dramatic moment like that. You know, Seraphim says it might
- 27:08Speaker 1: also be an odd wording choice slash translation thing, and
- 27:12Speaker 1: she means more, she can't do anything that would openly
- 27:15Speaker 1: defy him out of fear, but small things that he
- 27:18Speaker 1: won't know she did, she'll do. Oh okay. I thought
- 27:24Speaker 1: it was a sort of like a genetic manipulation thing,
- 27:28Speaker 1: like with everybody else that he had put things in
- 27:32Speaker 1: place that she could explicitly like not disobey, you know
- 27:36Speaker 1: what I'm saying, But maybe that is it's just like
- 27:40Speaker 1: a sort of metaphorical type of thing, which would be
- 27:45Speaker 1: fine if that's what it is, that would make sense. Okay,
- 27:50Speaker 1: I'm willing to accept that. So I'm trying to make
- 27:56Speaker 1: sure that I'm not missing Okay. So this is when
- 27:59Speaker 1: he she brings up their mother and SANGI is just like,
- 28:05Speaker 1: straight up, what are you even talking about her for
- 28:08Speaker 1: right now? Which I did think was kind of funny
- 28:10Speaker 1: because obviously, when you see the flashbacks, his mother had
- 28:16Speaker 1: affection for him of a type that nobody else had,
- 28:21Speaker 1: and so for her to be like Mom would have
- 28:25Speaker 1: wanted you to get out of here, or mom would
- 28:27Speaker 1: have you know blank blank blank, that's just not that
- 28:30Speaker 1: unusual a thing to bring up at this moment. It's
- 28:33Speaker 1: not really like weird enough to be like, why are
- 28:37Speaker 1: you even mentioning her? I was sort of like many
- 28:40Speaker 1: people would bring up your dead parent who cared about
- 28:42Speaker 1: you when nobody else did. When they're trying to tell
- 28:46Speaker 1: you to save yourself or do the right thing or whatever.
- 28:49Speaker 1: It's not you know, his sort of going like, what
- 28:52Speaker 1: do you mean? I was like, what do you mean?
- 28:54Speaker 1: What does she mean? It's very very clear. But then
- 28:58Speaker 1: it turns out that there is a very a specific
- 29:00Speaker 1: thing that she's referring to that he did not know about.
- 29:05Speaker 1: And I don't know why this wasn't more well known
- 29:11Speaker 1: by folks. I was sort of thinking, as like, the
- 29:13Speaker 1: story unfolds that, uh, I think it's just meant to
- 29:19Speaker 1: be that SOANGI is so looked down on that nobody's
- 29:22Speaker 1: gonna bother telling him anything, because why bother with this
- 29:25Speaker 1: kid who sucks and is worthless, you know. But this
- 29:29Speaker 1: is the first time he's hearing of it. So his mother.
- 29:36Speaker 1: We don't really get any information about why she and
- 29:43Speaker 1: Judge wound up together. It does not seem like she
- 29:47Speaker 1: and he had a real relationship of any kind. There's
- 29:52Speaker 1: not really a sense from her of like, I loved
- 29:55Speaker 1: you once and now you've turned into this monster and
- 29:59Speaker 1: I don't know where to turn. It's just sort of
- 30:05Speaker 1: the vibe for me is like I am trying to
- 30:11Speaker 1: make the best of this, and you keep insisting on
- 30:14Speaker 1: like doing the worst possible thing. You know. We see
- 30:23Speaker 1: her having already gotten pregnant, and she is being informed
- 30:29Speaker 1: that she's going to be made to undergo this surgery
- 30:35Speaker 1: and it's to make these children into perfect soldiers that
- 30:40Speaker 1: will not you know, disobey orders, that will not have emotions,
- 30:46Speaker 1: that won't have compassion, And her immediate reaction is just
- 30:52Speaker 1: why would you do this? These are my children too,
- 30:56Speaker 1: this is our family. And Judge is utterly uninterested in
- 31:02Speaker 1: anything that she has to say. He does not care
- 31:05Speaker 1: and completely disregards her and is just like, yep, this
- 31:09Speaker 1: is happening. And the only means that she can come
- 31:15Speaker 1: up with to resist what he is forcing her to
- 31:22Speaker 1: do is to drink a toxin, a poison that will
- 31:30Speaker 1: hopefully counteract whatever it is that they attempt to do.
- 31:38Speaker 1: And I can't remember if she drinks it before or after.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I have to assume it's after. But uh, Florian says,
- 31:50Speaker 1: my guess is political marriage, and like that's kind of
- 31:52Speaker 1: what I'm assuming. But she drinks this and the result
- 32:01Speaker 1: of it is that, like it seems like at first
- 32:06Speaker 1: it didn't do anything, and the judge is very relieved.
- 32:10Speaker 1: It's looking like the things that they have done to
- 32:13Speaker 1: these kids has gone through anyway, because they begin to
- 32:16Speaker 1: develop these symptoms, I guess you would say, where they're
- 32:20Speaker 1: fucking like, you know, just able to do superhuman things
- 32:25Speaker 1: even as young children. And then they see how Soanjy
- 32:31Speaker 1: is falling behind, and they're realizing like, oh, okay, that's
- 32:35Speaker 1: where the failure is. Is this one kid? Everybody else
- 32:39Speaker 1: it turned out all right, but with him no, and unfortunately,
- 32:48Speaker 1: like it only saved Soangy from becoming like his brothers,
- 32:55Speaker 1: but it also has long term effects on his mom.
- 33:02Speaker 1: So she is just not ever really this ever the
- 33:06Speaker 1: same again after she drinks this, and it seems to
- 33:11Speaker 1: be the cause of her death in the end, which
- 33:17Speaker 1: one could say, maybe that's why they never told Sanja,
- 33:19Speaker 1: but nobody gives a shit about son She's feelings. So
- 33:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna go ahead and guess that probably his sister
- 33:25Speaker 1: knew and didn't tell him for that reason. And now
- 33:28Speaker 1: is at a point where she's like, okay, I think
- 33:31Speaker 1: you get to know now. But and so of course,
- 33:36Speaker 1: like the way he's initially interpreting this is just oh,
- 33:40Speaker 1: that means that her death is my fault. This fucking sucks,
- 33:44Speaker 1: like he feels so guilty right away, and she's like no, no, no,
- 33:52Speaker 1: you don't understand, and we get a flashback of her
- 33:55Speaker 1: talking to her mother, and her mom just saying how
- 34:01Speaker 1: great a son Soanji is and that he brings her
- 34:06Speaker 1: so much pride and is the best son anybody could
- 34:09Speaker 1: ask for, and she just clearly is like, has no
- 34:14Speaker 1: regrets whatsoever on having taken her own life. In the end,
- 34:19Speaker 1: there's not a sense that she's sort of, oh, I
- 34:23Speaker 1: wound up killing myself. I wish I could take it back.
- 34:26Speaker 1: It was worth it to have at least one kid
- 34:29Speaker 1: who doesn't who isn't a monster, basically, And I just
- 34:36Speaker 1: really appreciated this on Sanji's behalf. You know, there's a
- 34:42Speaker 1: feel to it for me of like almost it just
- 34:47Speaker 1: feels kind of like Sonji himself and how his attitude
- 34:52Speaker 1: of like I'm gonna take one for the team and
- 34:53Speaker 1: hope that it still kind of works out. You taken
- 34:57Speaker 1: after your mom there, buddy, that's a good thing. I
- 35:00Speaker 1: appreciate it. So yeah, I really I like this as
- 35:06Speaker 1: a development because I wasn't looking for it, as I like,
- 35:11Speaker 1: when I opened the episode, I said, it turns out
- 35:14Speaker 1: there's a specific reason he's like this, and I had
- 35:17Speaker 1: just sort of thought it was failed science because science
- 35:20Speaker 1: will try and do its thing and not always succeed.
- 35:23Speaker 1: And I was perfectly willing to accept that as the explanation,
- 35:29Speaker 1: but I don't dislike that there is a further reasoning
- 35:34Speaker 1: behind it. And you know, I really like even though
- 35:38Speaker 1: we have him meet his mother earlier on, this is
- 35:44Speaker 1: a result. I'll be honest of my coverage of The
- 35:48Speaker 1: Vorcos against Saga, which is something else I'm covering for
- 35:50Speaker 1: spoil me if if you're a science fiction fan and
- 35:54Speaker 1: you haven't been reading The Vorcos Against Saga, let me
- 35:57Speaker 1: tell you that you are missing out a lot. It's
- 36:03Speaker 1: one of the best series I've ever read, written by
- 36:05Speaker 1: Lois McMaster Boujold, and she has a thing in that
- 36:11Speaker 1: series called the Uterine Replicator, which basically makes it so
- 36:16Speaker 1: that women no longer have to have body births. They
- 36:20Speaker 1: can have a pregnancy removed from their body and carried
- 36:23Speaker 1: to term in a machine, and that way the woman
- 36:29Speaker 1: doesn't suffer any of the effects of body changes that
- 36:33Speaker 1: happen that can be very, very risky, and it also
- 36:36Speaker 1: makes it so that some women who might not be
- 36:38Speaker 1: able to survive a pregnancy are able to and that
- 36:41Speaker 1: you know, if there is any concern about genetic disorders,
- 36:46Speaker 1: they can like do something to manipulate those genes within
- 36:50Speaker 1: the replicator. So what I had been thinking about how
- 36:53Speaker 1: all this worked was his mother was simply the egg
- 36:58Speaker 1: source and not that she had actually been pregnant. And
- 37:05Speaker 1: when you stop and think about it, it is sort
- 37:07Speaker 1: of weird that it was a regular pregnancy. It's she
- 37:14Speaker 1: gave birth to all four of them at the same time,
- 37:19Speaker 1: which well, I mean not simultaneously. Obviously they came out
- 37:22Speaker 1: one at a time, I'm assuming, But I just really
- 37:26Speaker 1: thought that it was going to be a because we
- 37:30Speaker 1: saw all of the men who are being literally grown
- 37:34Speaker 1: in these test tubes. I thought that that was how
- 37:41Speaker 1: he and his brothers were born as well, that it
- 37:44Speaker 1: was a sort of separate, out of body test tube
- 37:47Speaker 1: type thing. And you know, for whatever reason, he comes
- 37:51Speaker 1: out of the tube and it wasn't successful for him.
- 37:54Speaker 1: But uh, it is a completely different like she gets
- 38:01Speaker 1: pregnant first and then they do the surgery on her
- 38:10Speaker 1: while she's pregnant to adjust their genes, which doesn't really
- 38:17Speaker 1: make a lot of sense, but it's for the story,
- 38:20Speaker 1: I guess. You know that it's supposed to be her
- 38:23Speaker 1: being subjected to this thing. So it's fine. I'm like,
- 38:28Speaker 1: it's just something that I think the reason that I
- 38:30Speaker 1: didn't expect it to go this way is a very
- 38:32Speaker 1: valid reason. It's just not really all that important in
- 38:36Speaker 1: the end. But so yeah, the whole thing here with
- 38:46Speaker 1: Red Jews that you are exactly what our mother wanted
- 38:50Speaker 1: you to be, and you need to keep living for
- 38:54Speaker 1: her sake in order to carry on, like at least
- 38:58Speaker 1: one member of our family being a decent person. And
- 39:03Speaker 1: we see a really like awful scene of Soanji at
- 39:10Speaker 1: her grave side and his father turning up and just
- 39:16Speaker 1: being like, what the fuck are you doing giving flowers
- 39:20Speaker 1: to the dead. That is so pointless, and it's just
- 39:25Speaker 1: kind of funny, Like I believe that the way Judge
- 39:32Speaker 1: is written is explicitly meant to be this guy actually
- 39:40Speaker 1: doesn't have any real human feeling that bro is fucked up,
- 39:46Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. But were I to be
- 39:52Speaker 1: face to face with this guy and him talking like
- 39:57Speaker 1: this to me, I would be so tempted to mock
- 40:02Speaker 1: him for trying way too hard to behave as if
- 40:07Speaker 1: he doesn't care, because that's the vibe in this moment
- 40:11Speaker 1: to me is just you actually do give a shit
- 40:16Speaker 1: about a lot of stuff, but you don't want to
- 40:20Speaker 1: because you think that makes you weak, And so you're
- 40:22Speaker 1: out here posturing like a sad sack little pathetic man,
- 40:29Speaker 1: trying to convince everybody else that nothing bothers you, and
- 40:32Speaker 1: I don't believe you, you know, And like I said,
- 40:35Speaker 1: I think it really is supposed to be nothing bothers him.
- 40:39Speaker 1: But I would believe in this moment that he doesn't
- 40:45Speaker 1: care about Sanji's mom specifically, just because it didn't seem
- 40:49Speaker 1: like he cared about her, like that's just That's the
- 40:53Speaker 1: thing with a lot of marriages that are done for
- 40:56Speaker 1: political reasons is that there's no particular affection necessary between
- 41:01Speaker 1: the two parties. So I'm perfectly willing to believe that
- 41:04Speaker 1: on that level, his indifference at this moment is genuine,
- 41:10Speaker 1: just you know, try and just wanted to say that,
- 41:14Speaker 1: but that in general, it would be kind of fun
- 41:21Speaker 1: for me storytelling wise if there was a moment that
- 41:25Speaker 1: we got to see some real emotion from him about
- 41:29Speaker 1: something and then him really quickly like trying to quell
- 41:33Speaker 1: it somehow and act as if it weren't happening, or
- 41:38Speaker 1: that no, it doesn't matter to me actually at all,
- 41:40Speaker 1: you know, that kind of thing, because it's he isn't engineered.
- 41:49Speaker 1: He isn't like his kids, so especially it would be
- 41:53Speaker 1: funny to me if like he were being shown up
- 41:58Speaker 1: by them. They were able to approach something without any
- 42:02Speaker 1: emotional attachment at all, but he wasn't able to do
- 42:07Speaker 1: that because he isn't manipulated genetically, and so is kind
- 42:14Speaker 1: of embarrassed at the fact that he is betraying emotional
- 42:18Speaker 1: reactions to something when his children aren't, and it turns
- 42:22Speaker 1: out that they're like, actually, he is, by his own metric,
- 42:27Speaker 1: also really weak. You know, I think that would be
- 42:30Speaker 1: kind of fun, That's all I'm saying. But I don't
- 42:34Speaker 1: think it's likely that we're gonna get to see anything
- 42:36Speaker 1: like that because it just doesn't really seem on theme
- 42:41Speaker 1: with what we're supposed to be getting from like his
- 42:44Speaker 1: function in the story, if that makes sense. So let's see,
- 42:51Speaker 1: I'm just trying to jump ahead here to this moment
- 42:53Speaker 1: where we get the repeat of like his father kicking
- 42:56Speaker 1: him out of the house and saying like, don't like
- 43:01Speaker 1: do me a favor and don't tell anybody that you're
- 43:03Speaker 1: my son, because you're an embarrassment to me. YadA YadA,
- 43:08Speaker 1: And then we come back eventually to his sister and
- 43:13Speaker 1: she says, needless to say, you're no failure. Your mother
- 43:17Speaker 1: gave her life to protect you and your humanity. Or
- 43:20Speaker 1: you are the future mother wanted to see, and that's
- 43:25Speaker 1: why you're kinder and more tender than anyone. And I
- 43:30Speaker 1: loved it. I just really do like this as a development.
- 43:33Speaker 1: It's like she it's like his mother was like sort
- 43:40Speaker 1: of doing her own secret genetic project herself and didn't
- 43:47Speaker 1: nobody else knew about it. So actually he is a
- 43:52Speaker 1: great success in that direction for her project and what
- 43:55Speaker 1: it was she was attempting to accomplish. You know, I
- 43:58Speaker 1: think that's kind of fun. So also in this episode,
- 44:06Speaker 1: we have the breakout from the Book of Lufi and
- 44:12Speaker 1: Nami by Jimbay, and this is just, you know, it's fine.
- 44:24Speaker 1: I really, really really every time he shows up, try
- 44:28Speaker 1: so hard to care about Jimbay. I really do, Guys.
- 44:32Speaker 1: I'm not going into it with a bad attitude. I
- 44:34Speaker 1: swear like he shows up and there is a part
- 44:37Speaker 1: of me I won't lie that does kind of go ugh,
- 44:41Speaker 1: But I catch myself and I go Okay, No, it's Jimbay,
- 44:46Speaker 1: you know, like, let's see what he does. And it's
- 44:48Speaker 1: not like he ever does anything that is like overtly
- 44:54Speaker 1: bad or anything. If he did, maybe that would make
- 44:59Speaker 1: me care a little bit more. It's just that he
- 45:04Speaker 1: does exactly what needs doing and nothing more, with no
- 45:09Speaker 1: flare or razzle dazzle of his own to make it interesting.
- 45:16Speaker 1: You know. It's just like he's so functional that it's
- 45:25Speaker 1: it's like he's like the hinge on a door. It
- 45:28Speaker 1: does what it needs to do. Great, glad we have it.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Do I ever think about it or notice it? No,
- 45:35Speaker 1: I open the door, I'll notice it if it goes wrong. Sure,
- 45:39Speaker 1: but like that's it. And Seraphim says, it's so weird
- 45:43Speaker 1: how you bounced off some of the most popular characters
- 45:46Speaker 1: in the show between Jimbay and VIVI. I will say this, Jimbay,
- 45:52Speaker 1: I will not believe is one of the most popular
- 45:55Speaker 1: characters in the show. I am straight up calling horseshit
- 45:58Speaker 1: on that. And here's why. When I went to that
- 46:02Speaker 1: pop up in Houston for one piece, they had versions
- 46:07Speaker 1: of everything with all the characters, and Jimbay was all
- 46:11Speaker 1: that was left on like a ton of them, nobody
- 46:15Speaker 1: wanted him. He didn't sell. He was the only one
- 46:19Speaker 1: that remained for like the posters, a bunch of the
- 46:21Speaker 1: little figure greens, there were like pins and stuff. He's
- 46:25Speaker 1: the only one that they were like, you know, more
- 46:29Speaker 1: than ten or twenty left on each of those. It
- 46:32Speaker 1: was all Jimbay. So take that as you will. I
- 46:37Speaker 1: just don't think that that many people really like him
- 46:40Speaker 1: that much. It's like, maybe they can pay lip service,
- 46:44Speaker 1: but when it comes down to who they want to
- 46:46Speaker 1: have hanging up in their little fandom holes, it's not him.
- 46:51Speaker 1: Seems like, you know, Florian says, I'm with Natasha with Jimbay,
- 46:59Speaker 1: I don't see jimbe and top ten lists of fave characters,
- 47:02Speaker 1: so I believe it. Look and I will acknowledge that
- 47:05Speaker 1: like Vivi might be less annoying if you know her
- 47:11Speaker 1: more from the manga as well, or if it's like
- 47:15Speaker 1: maybe if I went back and watched her arc with
- 47:19Speaker 1: Dub instead, But I've seen portions of it with Dub
- 47:25Speaker 1: and it didn't really seem to change very much for me,
- 47:27Speaker 1: So I don't know. But yeah, I think Vivi is
- 47:30Speaker 1: just one of those characters that she checks all the
- 47:32Speaker 1: boxes for what should be fun and interesting in a character,
- 47:35Speaker 1: and maybe people are willing to take it at that level,
- 47:38Speaker 1: but I think in execution she sucks. And you know,
- 47:43Speaker 1: what is most popular can be very baffling to me
- 47:47Speaker 1: sometimes anyway, Like before we had the whole Disney serieses
- 47:53Speaker 1: coming out of different characters from Star Wars. I knew
- 47:58Speaker 1: Boba Fett was super popular, but I hadn't actually seen
- 48:01Speaker 1: the movies yet, And then when I did and I
- 48:05Speaker 1: saw that Boba Fet like kind of almost doesn't really
- 48:08Speaker 1: even do anything, and then just dies the fact that
- 48:13Speaker 1: he was so popular it was mind blowing to me.
- 48:16Speaker 1: I kept waiting for something with him and it was nothing.
- 48:19Speaker 1: And my husband found it hilarious because he was also
- 48:24Speaker 1: kind of that way of like, I don't get why
- 48:26Speaker 1: people like this guy so much, so he was waiting
- 48:28Speaker 1: to see like my reaction once I saw the complete
- 48:32Speaker 1: exploits of Boba Fet and when I was like what
- 48:35Speaker 1: the fuck, he cracked up and was just like, yeah,
- 48:37Speaker 1: I know, so people pick weird stuff sometimes to like
- 48:42Speaker 1: latch onto. This also happened in Like Stranger Things. People
- 48:46Speaker 1: were all about Barb for some reason, and it was
- 48:49Speaker 1: just a very strange, like you know why, but yeah,
- 48:56Speaker 1: so uh, Florian says, we'll see about Vivi and a
- 49:00Speaker 1: live action maybe that will help well, And that's that's
- 49:04Speaker 1: kind of the thing, Like if they change a bunch
- 49:07Speaker 1: of things about the way she's portrayed in the show,
- 49:08Speaker 1: it might help. Does it count though, if they change
- 49:13Speaker 1: a bunch of things in the way that she's portrayed,
- 49:16Speaker 1: you know, like will will being like, now, I see
- 49:20Speaker 1: why you guys like Vivi. Does that mean anything? If
- 49:24Speaker 1: it's sort of yeah, they utterly altered a million things
- 49:29Speaker 1: about like telling her story. I'm still gonna be baffled
- 49:33Speaker 1: at people who like the anime version of her. I'll
- 49:35Speaker 1: still just be kind of why, you know, Yeah, she's
- 49:40Speaker 1: just I think also, guys, if I'm being real honest
- 49:44Speaker 1: too about some of my personal things with it her
- 49:47Speaker 1: being so like pacifist, I am in a place in
- 49:51Speaker 1: my life with what's going on historically right now where
- 49:54Speaker 1: I have fucking no tolerance for that anymore. And it
- 49:58Speaker 1: just is it feels like really childish in a way
- 50:03Speaker 1: that I just don't have the patience. So that being
- 50:06Speaker 1: such a big part of her character as we're battling
- 50:08Speaker 1: for her to be trying to stop the fighting just
- 50:11Speaker 1: because she doesn't want people to fight. It's not really
- 50:15Speaker 1: like it just doesn't move me. It's it feels like
- 50:20Speaker 1: a very self absorbed little kid being like I don't
- 50:23Speaker 1: like this and not seeing the big picture on like
- 50:28Speaker 1: why people are doing this because they were being oppressed
- 50:31Speaker 1: and exploited and lied to, you know what I mean,
- 50:34Speaker 1: Like I don't know. Saraphim says, the Boba fet thing
- 50:39Speaker 1: was mostly him just looking awesome and then Old EU
- 50:42Speaker 1: making him live up to that. Okay, like but you know,
- 50:47Speaker 1: it's sort of it's like that being the reason. Really
- 50:50Speaker 1: he just looked out like I guess, and not everybody
- 50:54Speaker 1: like the Old EU, Like a lot of people didn't
- 50:57Speaker 1: even have that as as a frame of reference. It
- 50:59Speaker 1: was purely the movies. So Florian says, I think it
- 51:02Speaker 1: will because what you dis like most was her way
- 51:04Speaker 1: about doing things, but you liked her basic idea, just
- 51:07Speaker 1: not the execution. And if idea stays the same but
- 51:10Speaker 1: execution is different in the live action dot dot dot,
- 51:13Speaker 1: then it counts. Question mark. See that's it, dot dot
- 51:19Speaker 1: question mark, Like I can't decide if it really counts
- 51:23Speaker 1: because if her backstory is the same and her goals
- 51:27Speaker 1: are the same, but they handle her character in a
- 51:30Speaker 1: completely different way than Oda originally handled it. Now I
- 51:34Speaker 1: know Oda's deeply involved in the live action, and that
- 51:39Speaker 1: is where I am really really curious and would love
- 51:43Speaker 1: somebody to like interview him and ask him, like, if
- 51:48Speaker 1: they do change some things about her, is this evidence
- 51:52Speaker 1: that you regret handling Vivi in some of the ways
- 51:55Speaker 1: that you handled her. But he's also on record is
- 52:00Speaker 1: saying that he cried the whole time that he was
- 52:03Speaker 1: like writing the scene of her in the clock tower
- 52:06Speaker 1: yelling for everybody to stop fighting. So it seems like
- 52:10Speaker 1: that really resonated for him, and I don't see him
- 52:15Speaker 1: undoing that. So for me, it's maybe they'll have that
- 52:21Speaker 1: exact same scene and it will work for me this time,
- 52:24Speaker 1: you know, maybe it's the maybe there is something about
- 52:30Speaker 1: changing the execution that will still make things like that work.
- 52:34Speaker 1: It's we'll just have to see. But yeah, Jim Day,
- 52:40Speaker 1: it's like I don't even dislike him. It's not like
- 52:43Speaker 1: I dislike him. He's just nothing. He's so boring. I
- 52:47Speaker 1: can't describe a single defining part of his personality other
- 52:54Speaker 1: than he shows up when he's needed. He's reliable. Like
- 52:59Speaker 1: that's it. I truly if you try to tell me
- 53:03Speaker 1: like he has a sense of humor, he has no
- 53:06Speaker 1: sense of humor. He likes this, he doesn't like that.
- 53:10Speaker 1: Would I would not be able to contest or support
- 53:13Speaker 1: any claim because he just does not do anything when
- 53:18Speaker 1: he's on screen really except be like Moofy's rad and
- 53:22Speaker 1: that's not a fucking personality, you know. So anyway, Sarah him,
- 53:30Speaker 1: anyway back to book burning and Florian, Yay, we need
- 53:33Speaker 1: to talk about Brooke. Yeah, we'll get there. So eventually,
- 53:37Speaker 1: like jim By tries, initially he knocks out like the
- 53:40Speaker 1: cream guy, and then he tries to like punch open
- 53:44Speaker 1: the cage that they are in, and it doesn't work,
- 53:49Speaker 1: and he finally realizes like, oh shit, okay, yeah, that's
- 53:54Speaker 1: probably not too surprising that I'm not able to affect
- 53:57Speaker 1: this thing at all, and so he tries to figure
- 54:02Speaker 1: out another way around it because of this like book ability,
- 54:06Speaker 1: and he lights the whole thing on fire and gets
- 54:09Speaker 1: them out of there, and Loofy, he hasn't eaten and
- 54:14Speaker 1: he has made a vow that he's not gonna eat
- 54:16Speaker 1: anything that Sanjy didn't make, so he has limited himself
- 54:22Speaker 1: quite a bit with that, and I am a little
- 54:26Speaker 1: saddened by it, because, like the whole Loofy can eat
- 54:30Speaker 1: some of the enemy because they're made of candy or
- 54:32Speaker 1: cookie or whatever. I was like very into that, but
- 54:35Speaker 1: now if he's made this vow, he's gonna be unwilling,
- 54:39Speaker 1: and that makes me very sad because I thought we
- 54:40Speaker 1: were gonna have a whole thing with that looks like not.
- 54:45Speaker 1: It's funny to me though, that this second of the
- 54:48Speaker 1: two episodes is called Loofy's Vengeful hell Bent Dash because,
- 54:53Speaker 1: like we do have the opening sequence of him, he
- 54:57Speaker 1: leaves behind Jim Bay and Nami and he is determined
- 55:01Speaker 1: to go off on his own. I don't really get
- 55:05Speaker 1: why he wants to like leave them behind exactly. I
- 55:11Speaker 1: don't remember if he was sort of saying like you guys,
- 55:14Speaker 1: go help Brooke. I don't feel like that was said.
- 55:17Speaker 1: But he splits off from them for whatever reason, and
- 55:20Speaker 1: we do see him like going down the hall and
- 55:23Speaker 1: getting into I think like third gear up against one
- 55:27Speaker 1: of these guys are no second year and saying, now
- 55:32Speaker 1: move it, you're in my way. But like almost the
- 55:36Speaker 1: whole rest of the episode. We never see him again
- 55:42Speaker 1: until like the very very last couple of seconds, which
- 55:48Speaker 1: is just kind of the moment of wrap up of
- 55:51Speaker 1: the first attack that happens in the opening. So it's
- 55:55Speaker 1: a weird thing to be like, that's what this episode's about.
- 55:59Speaker 1: So we're titling it this and I'm like, that's not
- 56:02Speaker 1: almost at all in this episode, guys. So he as
- 56:10Speaker 1: he's like heading out that way. We then go back
- 56:14Speaker 1: to the fight with fucking Pedro, and you, guys, it
- 56:20Speaker 1: turns out that our egg man evolves when he is
- 56:24Speaker 1: cut open. I am in love with this. It is
- 56:30Speaker 1: so weird, y'all. I bro comes and stands up looking
- 56:36Speaker 1: like a giant chick with a fucking another teacup hat.
- 56:42Speaker 1: By the way, I'm not really sure about the relationship
- 56:47Speaker 1: between the egg and the teacup. I am assuming it's
- 56:51Speaker 1: sort of meant to be like a reference to breakfast,
- 56:54Speaker 1: that you that you have eggs at breakfast and you
- 56:56Speaker 1: have tea at breakfast. But I say that as like
- 56:59Speaker 1: this is the way it is in the US. I'm
- 57:01Speaker 1: not really sure if like that's explicitly breakfast stuff in
- 57:05Speaker 1: Japan the same way, But anyway, he uh begins to
- 57:11Speaker 1: fight with these like shorter blades, and honestly, this what's
- 57:19Speaker 1: the word iteration I guess of him. I really love
- 57:22Speaker 1: the design because now the egg thing makes a bit
- 57:25Speaker 1: more sense. It's like a chick sitting inside an eggshell,
- 57:28Speaker 1: so he looks more appropriate to the overall design in
- 57:31Speaker 1: a way. But yeah, him and Pedro go up against
- 57:37Speaker 1: each other, and he is really laying it down for
- 57:41Speaker 1: a second on Pedro, and like you know, there's this
- 57:45Speaker 1: sort of like hail of blades that comes down on
- 57:50Speaker 1: him very very hard, and for a second I was like,
- 57:53Speaker 1: oh shit, has he has he met his match? Like
- 57:55Speaker 1: Pedro's got a pretty intense cut out of one ear.
- 58:01Speaker 1: But then we see him get sliced in half yet again,
- 58:07Speaker 1: and so I'm like, okay, another egg yoke though another
- 58:12Speaker 1: egg yoke in that was what he came back from
- 58:14Speaker 1: last time. And so we begin to then see the
- 58:20Speaker 1: egg moving and there are two clearly like glowing eyes
- 58:25Speaker 1: in it and another beak that opens, and it's a
- 58:31Speaker 1: whole fucking thing where like this is just great. I
- 58:36Speaker 1: love it. So all of these dudes are like, oh shit,
- 58:41Speaker 1: he's coming back. And now we're gonna gang up on
- 58:43Speaker 1: you too, and Pedro suddenly says perfect, like perfect timing
- 58:51Speaker 1: or something like that. I'm trying to see the moment.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Because he stands still and waits for them to come
- 58:55Speaker 1: to him. They've all circled around him, basically, and he says, fine,
- 59:03Speaker 1: I'll stop and then now's my chance. That's what it is.
- 59:06Speaker 1: And he's basically doing a suicide bomb and has this
- 59:11Speaker 1: giant strap of what looks like Looney Tunes TNT around
- 59:18Speaker 1: his body and says, it's nice to have so many
- 59:20Speaker 1: soldiers around lights this, and there is this massive explosion
- 59:26Speaker 1: and we just see red and the whole room go up,
- 59:29Speaker 1: and that is it. So do not know what is
- 59:34Speaker 1: happening there with him, Like I'm assuming that he probably survived,
- 59:40Speaker 1: but it really doesn't make sense that he survives something
- 59:45Speaker 1: like that. He's literally the bomb itself. We go back
- 59:50Speaker 1: to Smoothie also briefly here, and Smoothie is talking to
- 59:58Speaker 1: a guy who's got like a kind of flower thing
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: around his head and she's basically telling him we can't
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: let Mama know how bad things are going because she
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: will have one of her mood swings and ruin everything.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Before the wedding and she'll be so pissed at us,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: and he says something about, how like you will you
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: want us to lie to her, and she grips him
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: up for that, just for saying it, and it's like, no,
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: because we will be put to death if we lie
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: to her. Just don't tell her anything. Make sure to
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: block them from getting to like the lower levels. And
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: then he says, all things considered, if we're in a hurry,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: it just might be easier to kill them, and she says,
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: do whatever, you have my permission. And I think it's
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: very funny that as a commander, she wasn't the one
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: to be just like, go kill them as fast as
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: you can. She's the one saying, block the entrances off
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: and make it so that they can't get here. I mean,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: I think it ultimately will probably end up in the
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: same place, but so okay. Then we go to Brook.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: He is still trying to put up a fight and
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: gets laid out, and he manages to cut a single
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: slash in Prometheus's face, and I really thought that was
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: gonna be something that mattered. It isn't. It's like, it
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: seems like it's nothing, but he is like being held
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: in one hand by Big Mom and she's petting his
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: afro and just talking about like what a precious little
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: creature he is, and how he's got such guts because
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: like he was able to withstand so much despite being
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: merely bones. And she says something like, you know, you're
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: up and moving around even though you're just bones. It's
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: a miracle. And there was something about her saying it's
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: a miracle that I found very funny. And you know, he,
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: like I said, he has, He's done his best. But
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: it's just like, these are definitely people that are on
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: a different level. And despite the fact that he doesn't win,
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: she's even able to like give him credit about how
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: he took out a bunch of the Chess soldiers and
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: it's sort of like, hey, don't get down about it.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: They couldn't withstand your attack at all. It was still impressive,
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Like you still did something, and you guys. I just
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: can't hate Big Mom. I just can't her, just like, hey,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: look at the bright side, man, you are powerful to
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: some people, and I just found that extremely delightful. I
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: don't know. They strip Brooke of all of his clothing
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: to search and make sure that he hasn't stolen anything,
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: and then she says something really interesting and she's like,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: I'm sorry to have suspected you, my pet, and she
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: just keeps stroking his head. Oh my god, and she says,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: but I can't let another person make it to Laftail
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: and mentions an ability that Roger had that was sort
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: of he says, the strange power to hear quote the
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: voice of all things, so he was able to interpret
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: this stone due to this ability. And she is saying
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: that they have somebody in their rank that she believes
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: is soon going to have the same power, which is
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: very interesting, super curious what that's like, Like, who is it?
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: How is that going to happen? And then we have
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: a very surprising moment because Putting walks in here, and
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: I fully thought, based on what she said in the
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: last episode that Big Mom knew Pudding's nature, but the
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: way that they interact here, I think Big Mom doesn't
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: know at all, which when you stop and think about
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: the scene where she tells Pudding, you're going to be
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: my little doll, actually kind of makes that make more sense.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: I was completely putting that down to like her saying this,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: because it's the role that putting is meant to play.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: But see now, like it's more I am telling you
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: this because I believe that you're too dim to like
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: do anything else. I guess. So Putting is pulling one
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: over on big Mom and all she says. Big Mom
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: says something like, I you have that rare three eyed
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: people's blood in your veins. If those special powers don't
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: ever come to fruition, then you're just a creepy looking weirdo.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: So we know that she has this ability in being
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: able to she ate the memo memo fruit, which is
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: what makes her able to manipulate people's memories. But I
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: don't know if, like the three eyed power seems to
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: be like a completely separate thing. I had thought the
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: three eyes was related to the memo memo fruit as well,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: that it was sort of like I can see into
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: your mind, you know, that kind of like metaphorical type
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: of thing. But no, it seems like it's a completely other,
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: separate potential ability of hers. And maybe that's the translation
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: of the ponoglyph that she's talking about. Maybe it would
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: be Putting that did it. That would make sense, I guess,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: But we haven't met any other three eyed people I
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: don't think so. I don't know anyway, I'm way over time.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: Really good call of you guys to only make this
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: two episodes for this one, but I hope that you
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: all are enjoying the coverage. Thank you Sarahim and Florian
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: again for hanging out with me, and I hope that
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: everybody listening is enjoying the coverage. And until next time
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: to the loom.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: Motherfuckers.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: That was an unspoiled network podcast
