- 0:08Speaker 1: You know, Meryl Streep was once told that she was
- 0:11Speaker 1: not beautiful enough for a role in the movies. And
- 0:14Speaker 1: we are the Meryl Streep of podcasts. We are the
- 0:17Speaker 1: little podcast that could. Today is our one hundredth episode.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Like the Swan Lager campaign of the nineteen eighties, they
- 0:25Speaker 1: said you'd never make it with your colorful ideas. But
- 0:27Speaker 1: in the words of one of the patron saints of
- 0:31Speaker 1: our podcast, they said, I bet you'll never make it.
- 0:34Speaker 1: But look at us, just holding on. We're still together,
- 0:38Speaker 1: still going strong. Who is that Catherine?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Is that John Farnham's Shania Twain? Oh, I don't know.
- 0:44Speaker 1: You're with No Dribble strapping. Hello, and welcome to No Dribble,
- 1:01Speaker 1: the podcast where we talk about netball, but we talk
- 1:03Speaker 1: about so much more. And we've been talking about so
- 1:06Speaker 1: much more now officially for.
- 1:10Speaker 2: One hundred boys.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Welcome to our centurion episode. And we are all here,
- 1:19Speaker 1: including Liz up on the coast. My name's Carolyn Swindell.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I'm Catcox, and I'm Liz Ellis.
- 1:25Speaker 1: And we might have a slight delay, but that's okay.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Technical issues a part of what makes No Dribble so charming.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I thought that was just because she was one hundred.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Took her a minute.
- 1:35Speaker 1: We are one hundred and Catherine, you've brought the party favors.
- 1:39Speaker 2: You've brought a so when I bought these, I bought
- 1:42Speaker 2: the giant balloons everybody, so there's a obviously a one
- 1:45Speaker 2: and two zeros firstly blowing these suckers up. Yeah, nearly
- 1:49Speaker 2: had me on the floor this morning because these are
- 1:51Speaker 2: twice the size I thought they were when I got them.
- 1:55Speaker 2: And you can't see us in the studio now, no.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Do you get that and that little straw you blow
- 1:59Speaker 1: them like this though, helium, like they're just you actually
- 2:02Speaker 1: do the hard work yourself.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Which was not great this morning. But anyway, no, there
- 2:07Speaker 2: we go one hundred. But even better than that, I've
- 2:09Speaker 2: got party favors and ready for my favorite sound in
- 2:13Speaker 2: the whole wide world, beautiful Bubble.
- 2:18Speaker 1: And across the country, celebrations started. Because No Dribble has
- 2:23Speaker 1: reached one hundred episodes. I would like, while you're pouring
- 2:27Speaker 1: mere glass of champagne, why what's the why have you stopped?
- 2:29Speaker 2: Well? I was just going to say, do we tell
- 2:30Speaker 2: people were actually recording at eight thirty.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yes morning on record on Tuesday morning and it is.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Oh no, it's nearly nine am, like in New Zealand
- 2:38Speaker 1: where I've just come from. That's nearly the middle of
- 2:40Speaker 1: the day, isn't it. But yes, Liz, we're here. You've
- 2:46Speaker 1: had a big week and now we're actually making you
- 2:48Speaker 1: back up for a big episode for us. But welcome
- 2:52Speaker 1: and congratulations to you.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Thank you, don't have some congratulations to be Congratulations to
- 2:57Speaker 3: our sport. Yes, very exciting that we are back on
- 3:01Speaker 3: Free from Tope.
- 3:02Speaker 1: There's nipple stuff too. I just met the podcast. Yeah
- 3:05Speaker 1: it was a oh sure, congratulations to me for but
- 3:08Speaker 1: there's other stuff too. Yeah, it has been a great work,
- 3:11Speaker 1: all right, Dribbler's true to form. We do have a delay,
- 3:13Speaker 1: so Liz is going to jump off and jump on
- 3:15Speaker 1: on another device, because that's how agile we are in
- 3:19Speaker 1: this modern media landscape. But Katz, we've got people to
- 3:22Speaker 1: thank to forgetting us here. It's not just the three
- 3:25Speaker 1: of us getting together and talking shit every week, as
- 3:27Speaker 1: much as that's really the fun part of the job
- 3:30Speaker 1: and the whole heart of it. But we want to
- 3:32Speaker 1: thank Alex, our producer, who does a wonderful job for
- 3:34Speaker 1: us every week. We were like, thank Mandy, our og producer.
- 3:37Speaker 1: She is the first one who helped us really shape this.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So thanks Mandy and the iHeartRadio Network. We want to
- 3:42Speaker 1: thank them for helping us spread our reach. And of
- 3:46Speaker 1: course we need to thank Vala, who supported us when
- 3:49Speaker 1: we didn't really have a whole lot going on here
- 3:51Speaker 1: and it was more just a we think you've got
- 3:53Speaker 1: something here, so we're going to get behind you. So
- 3:55Speaker 1: thank you Valor for supporting us. And for every dribbler
- 4:00Speaker 1: who has come to an event, or joined a tip
- 4:02Speaker 1: in camp, or bought some merch or been part of
- 4:05Speaker 1: our fabulous online community. Thank you. We are here today
- 4:10Speaker 1: in the heart of a really lovely little community that's
- 4:13Speaker 1: based around netball and our love of netball, but mostly
- 4:16Speaker 1: it's just based around having a laugh and trying to
- 4:19Speaker 1: have some decency.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Hey, yeah, absolutely dettoed to all of that. Our community
- 4:23Speaker 2: in particular, you guys are the best and I love
- 4:26Speaker 2: seeing everyone at the netball every week as well. There's
- 4:29Speaker 2: always dribblers in the crowd and come and say hello.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I had one sneaker photo of me when I was
- 4:34Speaker 2: in commentary the other day though I.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Was just in front of me wa say hello.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Though people I know I was busy at the time,
- 4:40Speaker 2: but definitely come and say hello. We love chatting with
- 4:43Speaker 2: you guys.
- 4:44Speaker 1: There was a question actually that came I don't know somewhere,
- 4:47Speaker 1: maybe it was in the Facebook group and someone was saying,
- 4:49Speaker 1: so when you commentated the Firebirds game on the weekend,
- 4:52Speaker 1: you were elevated and in a special commentator's box, and
- 4:55Speaker 1: a lot of the time you are down courtside at
- 4:58Speaker 1: court level have a preference as a commentator. Is there
- 5:01Speaker 1: a difference in experience?
- 5:02Speaker 2: No, you can still you can still see it all
- 5:05Speaker 2: it is. It is a good little bird's eye view
- 5:07Speaker 2: though up in the stands a bit in Queensland. I
- 5:10Speaker 2: so I love that, and and you're surrounded by the
- 5:12Speaker 2: crowd as well, which is pretty cool. But no, like
- 5:13Speaker 2: Courtside's greats all great songs, we're in the venue somewhere.
- 5:16Speaker 1: At least, no one's going to stack into you if you're.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Up in the in the commentary, just just the people
- 5:22Speaker 2: like you with too many gyms walking down the stairs.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Are you back, Liz, I'm back.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I'm back. What's the delay like?
- 5:30Speaker 2: No?
- 5:31Speaker 1: Much better? No delay?
- 5:32Speaker 3: Did you okay? Fantastic? Well hang on, it's going to
- 5:38Speaker 3: say you two look a bit bluey, but I do
- 5:39Speaker 3: feel like that's a Champagne at your end rather than
- 5:42Speaker 3: the teke at my end.
- 5:43Speaker 2: But you've got a glass there, haven't you. I do
- 5:47Speaker 2: raise your glass. Everybody cheers, Cheers Well Dante. One hundred episodes, cheers,
- 5:53Speaker 2: Cheers Elizabeth. Well, Carolyn, who's actually been here every single week,
- 5:59Speaker 2: has not missed one. Liz and I have been a
- 6:01Speaker 2: bit in and out with bits and pieces, but you
- 6:03Speaker 2: have no matter where you've been in the world, England
- 6:06Speaker 2: up at two o'clock in the morning to record, has
- 6:09Speaker 2: not missed one. So special cheers to you, lady, Thank
- 6:12Speaker 2: you very much.
- 6:12Speaker 1: We did have some dribblers say if they've listened to
- 6:14Speaker 1: one hundred episodes, does that make them centurions? And I
- 6:17Speaker 1: would say, if Liz Watson is willing to make share
- 6:20Speaker 1: her centurion status with me for simply watching her play,
- 6:24Speaker 1: then sure we're all centurions.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Yes, jos So is this episode? Is this the high
- 6:31Speaker 3: point of this episode now that we've started on the
- 6:33Speaker 3: champagnees and it's all downhill from here?
- 6:36Speaker 2: Or is it uphill? Hey might get all the good
- 6:39Speaker 2: juice out of us now.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yes, you might feel uphill.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Well, you have had a massive week, and we're going
- 6:47Speaker 1: to come to that in the netball segment. But first
- 6:49Speaker 1: of all, let's spend time just talking about ourselves.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Yeah, favorite favorite moments. Has anyone got a favorite moment?
- 6:57Speaker 2: I mean there's there's many. Let me start, because it's
- 6:59Speaker 2: just come to mind. If it's okay and you do not,
- 7:00Speaker 2: I'll forget if I don't stay it straight away. We
- 7:03Speaker 2: had an air that we were talking about the tooth
- 7:06Speaker 2: Fairy and I think Carolyn said that you think she's
- 7:09Speaker 2: got a drinking problem.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I think my tooth fairy definitely has, and that ended.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Up in one of the funniest discussions ever. I was
- 7:16Speaker 2: crying during that episode, absolutely bally miser so that one
- 7:20Speaker 2: will always stay as one of my favorites.
- 7:23Speaker 1: We struggle to talk about the tooth Fairy and Santa
- 7:26Speaker 1: Claus and the like because we feel we have a
- 7:29Speaker 1: responsibility to our younger dribblers, but we're also an adult podcast,
- 7:33Speaker 1: right so But anyway, if you have a tooth fairy
- 7:37Speaker 1: who drinks, I can sympathize with you because sometimes mine
- 7:41Speaker 1: forgets to show up on the first night.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Same same we must have the same tooth fairy.
- 7:47Speaker 1: You've got the same one.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Yes, definitely, she's the same one.
- 7:51Speaker 1: She's got an interesting patch, then, hasn't she an interesting territory?
- 7:54Speaker 1: My favorite episode, so Catherine sent this around in our
- 7:57Speaker 1: group chat. Mass just have to think about what our
- 7:59Speaker 1: favorite moment was in our final episode of the year.
- 8:02Speaker 1: As you know, we put out an episode every week
- 8:05Speaker 1: except Christmas Day, but we pre record our summer season
- 8:09Speaker 1: ones where we have our amazing guests and I have
- 8:11Speaker 1: loved all all of our guests and our No Dribble
- 8:15Speaker 1: extra guests. Last year when we got to talk to
- 8:17Speaker 1: the likes of Anaka Wells who was the sports minister
- 8:19Speaker 1: ahead of the election, and say, so, if people vote
- 8:23Speaker 1: for you, what are you going to do for netball?
- 8:25Speaker 1: I thought that was a fabulous moment. But my actual
- 8:28Speaker 1: favorite moment was in our final episode of the year,
- 8:31Speaker 1: our Christmas episode, when we had the og Dribbler Daryl
- 8:35Speaker 1: Milton come on and run a quiz for us, and
- 8:40Speaker 1: not one of us, of the three of us, got
- 8:42Speaker 1: a single question.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Right to be fair, they were starts questions, won't they yeah? Yeah?
- 8:49Speaker 2: I mean yeah, come on yeah, So Darryl give us
- 8:52Speaker 2: give us a pop culture netth.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Throw God's sake, give us a question about the Kardashians
- 8:58Speaker 1: or pride and prejudice.
- 9:00Speaker 2: We can do like pop culture netballish ones. Yeah, that
- 9:03Speaker 2: not stats. You know what year did I don't know.
- 9:07Speaker 2: We'll give you any nilig thing, the national anthem, that
- 9:11Speaker 2: sort of stuff. Those moments that sca you will remember them.
- 9:15Speaker 1: What year did Harry and Meghan go to a MAVs game?
- 9:17Speaker 1: Well not twenty twenty six, as I thought, because it
- 9:20Speaker 1: was an AI thing run by the social media team
- 9:22Speaker 1: at the MAVs and they did write AI content at
- 9:24Speaker 1: the top. But there was a picture of Harry and
- 9:26Speaker 1: Meghan at the network. Apparently they went to the rugby
- 9:29Speaker 1: here in Sydney on Friday night. And you've got to say,
- 9:31Speaker 1: like a crowd at the netple is going to be
- 9:33Speaker 1: about the sizes of Warratar's crowd. So come on, Harry
- 9:36Speaker 1: and Meghan, get your act together. Although I liked it
- 9:39Speaker 1: better when Robert Irwin went yeah.
- 9:41Speaker 3: I mean he really is royalty in this country.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Mmmm, that was a good moment. Lea's favorite podcast moment.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Oh look, I'm going to go a little bit off
- 9:52Speaker 3: pieced here, and I will say that my favorite moments
- 9:54Speaker 3: tend to come at our live events and said at
- 9:58Speaker 3: the live events, I mean, I did love the podcast
- 10:00Speaker 3: where we talked about the donkeys and the donkeys the
- 10:02Speaker 3: dolphins at Monkey Maya getting stoned, and I think I
- 10:06Speaker 3: might have spoken about I think I might have spoken
- 10:09Speaker 3: about my about the fact that dogs licked cane toads
- 10:11Speaker 3: and get stoned as well, So, you know, a little
- 10:14Speaker 3: bit of sub animal substance sort of dabbling. I know
- 10:17Speaker 3: I had it. We know this stuff. It bothers me
- 10:19Speaker 3: that that's in my head and not the things that
- 10:20Speaker 3: I need in my head. So yeah, it's it's been
- 10:23Speaker 3: quite a right but I love I also love our
- 10:25Speaker 3: little Facebook community.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I love.
- 10:27Speaker 3: I don't sort of get on there right much, but
- 10:29Speaker 3: I do read a lot of what gets written, and
- 10:31Speaker 3: I think that there's some funny people. And I love
- 10:33Speaker 3: meeting dribblers in the wild. It's good fun. And I
- 10:36Speaker 3: think my favorite dribbler moment recently was when I think
- 10:39Speaker 3: it was Helen asked the meat tray what he thought
- 10:41Speaker 3: of the game last week and it was not my
- 10:42Speaker 3: meat train with someone else's meat tray that she so,
- 10:45Speaker 3: you know.
- 10:50Speaker 1: A woman's embarrassment gets on two episodes and she would
- 10:54Speaker 1: be we never mentioned this.
- 10:56Speaker 3: It's so good. Look the other thing that I love
- 10:58Speaker 3: about this podcast is that I've almost single handedly turned
- 11:01Speaker 3: it into a caravan and camping podcast. So you know,
- 11:04Speaker 3: I've got a little bit more work to do. I
- 11:05Speaker 3: need to get you two out in the master drink.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Let's just throwing back.
- 11:11Speaker 3: That's where she's headed. Ah yeah, hang on, we'll get there.
- 11:15Speaker 3: So thank you to people who have supported me in
- 11:17Speaker 3: that endeavor.
- 11:18Speaker 1: And look, there are plenty of Dribblers who need an
- 11:20Speaker 1: intervention and need to understand the value of living within
- 11:24Speaker 1: four walls and under a roof. But thank you for
- 11:26Speaker 1: making us all smarter and for some of us reinforcing
- 11:29Speaker 1: our negative bias towards caravans camping. Great moments. I look
- 11:35Speaker 1: on that before we move on, because I forgot to
- 11:36Speaker 1: mention it last week. We do have a live event
- 11:38Speaker 1: coming up. Tickets are on sale now in this one's
- 11:41Speaker 1: for New South Wales netballers in Penrith on the fifth
- 11:44Speaker 1: in the in the roof at the Panthers, Penrith. The
- 11:49Speaker 1: night before seenior state titles and I've had a number
- 11:52Speaker 1: of Dribbler parents, So thank you for making it early
- 11:55Speaker 1: and out of respect for the fact that we have
- 11:57Speaker 1: to get there at Sparrow to decorate the team's tent.
- 12:01Speaker 1: And I don't know about this, but Liz, you've been
- 12:03Speaker 1: to senior state titles and junior state titles. Are you
- 12:07Speaker 1: planning to min No.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I have got a great idea though, Bring all your
- 12:11Speaker 2: cardboard and streamers and crap to the event and we'll
- 12:15Speaker 2: do a little working bee whilst we're doing our while
- 12:19Speaker 2: we're doing our chat. I'm good for a poster.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I love this, so we can be making stay, we
- 12:26Speaker 1: can be helping you next day.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and Liz Ellis can put a little touch on it.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, this is good.
- 12:33Speaker 2: This is a good idea.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Look, my little touch will not be good because I'm
- 12:38Speaker 3: art and Kraft is not my core competency. In fact,
- 12:41Speaker 3: it's not even in my wider competencies. And decorating a
- 12:45Speaker 3: tent for I've only been to junior state titles. This
- 12:47Speaker 3: is the first year that my daughter's going to see
- 12:49Speaker 3: the state titles. Decorating the tent is absolutely a thing,
- 12:53Speaker 3: and there's lots of mums and dads at Ballin and
- 12:58Speaker 3: NEPUL who are excellent at it. Last year I decked
- 13:01Speaker 3: my contribution to decorating the tent. WHI was to get
- 13:04Speaker 3: Helen Howsby and Sophie Fawns in to talk to the
- 13:07Speaker 3: girls in the tent, and I'm like, there you go,
- 13:08Speaker 3: there's my decoration Swiss.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I'm sorry I forgot my hot blue gun, but here's
- 13:16Speaker 1: a couple of yeah, well played out.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:20Speaker 3: So I'm also hoping that that, like I've got a
- 13:23Speaker 3: bit of carry over credit and I don't really have
- 13:24Speaker 3: to do much in the way of tent decorating for
- 13:26Speaker 3: a couple more years.
- 13:28Speaker 2: You know, I reckon, you're good for life. It's like
- 13:30Speaker 2: a life membership.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Surely, surely anyway, So but it is fun and the
- 13:35Speaker 3: girls love it, right, And so the girls actually get
- 13:37Speaker 3: together in the couple of weeks before State Champs and
- 13:41Speaker 3: they all they make up their posters to go into
- 13:43Speaker 3: the tent. So so Balin I got to say, it's
- 13:45Speaker 3: actually the kids who do it so compare its just
- 13:48Speaker 3: do the food. But yes, they make up their posters
- 13:51Speaker 3: and they and they have little sayings and it's really cute.
- 13:54Speaker 3: It's a bit like what we used to do, Catherine
- 13:55Speaker 3: with our Chaine room, except there's generated yes, I'm going
- 13:59Speaker 3: to imagine there's a vulgar quite and so vulgar in
- 14:03Speaker 3: fact that one time after again was at the end
- 14:07Speaker 3: of the game or halftime a half hours half ABC
- 14:10Speaker 3: we're televising, and the manager said, yeah, yeah, they can
- 14:12Speaker 3: come into the change room and halftime and we walked
- 14:14Speaker 3: in and went, oh my god, I've got to pull
- 14:17Speaker 3: that sign down because it was vulgar. And instead of
- 14:21Speaker 3: having a halftime chat, we had a halftime redecoration.
- 14:26Speaker 2: And it was it was something I did in my
- 14:28Speaker 2: garage on an old bed sheet and with a text,
- 14:31Speaker 2: and we hung it up And what about the sign? Yeah,
- 14:39Speaker 2: talking about your hobby. Anyway, Look at the point is
- 14:43Speaker 2: it doesn't have to be well done. It's just got
- 14:46Speaker 2: to be quality, right, Like what the actual.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Is the catch cry of the half asked, isn't it?
- 14:52Speaker 1: It's the thought that.
- 14:55Speaker 2: What the mess is about the messaging. But if the
- 14:58Speaker 2: parents are on food, bring you loaf for bread and
- 15:01Speaker 2: your whatever, and we can help you make sandwiches at
- 15:04Speaker 2: the live event.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I don't know that the venue will allow that you
- 15:08Speaker 1: buy food.
- 15:09Speaker 2: And plus I don't know that you want me touching
- 15:12Speaker 2: your sandwiches.
- 15:13Speaker 1: No, no, I think that's right. But the meat trade
- 15:16Speaker 1: did buy a hot glue gun recently, so for the
- 15:20Speaker 1: Easter Easter hat Parade, Easter Bonnet Parade, I'd like to
- 15:23Speaker 1: bring back the bonnet terminology for the Easter parade, basically
- 15:28Speaker 1: because I don't have to be involved in this nonsense anymore.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Speaking of relics, can I tell you what disturbed me
- 15:34Speaker 2: more than anything? Now? I window shop these days, and
- 15:37Speaker 2: I get online and I have a good look at
- 15:39Speaker 2: stuff that if I had lots of money, I would buy.
- 15:41Speaker 2: I used to buy it pre child, but now I
- 15:43Speaker 2: don't anymore. Anyway. Happen to be scrolling on the Louis
- 15:46Speaker 2: Vuitton website the other day just for shits and giggles.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Nothing got purchased. There's scrunches on there, four hundred and
- 15:54Speaker 2: sixty bucks for Louis Vton scrunchy. I nearly died. Took
- 16:00Speaker 2: a screenshot because I thought you two would love to
- 16:02Speaker 2: see that. So are they in or just because it's
- 16:05Speaker 2: Louis Vuitton. But like, we're giving hours away for free
- 16:09Speaker 2: four hundred and sixty.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Dollars, But I'm thinking we could charge four hundred and
- 16:13Speaker 1: fifty eight dollars at least. I reckon seriously, I mean,
- 16:16Speaker 1: you pay for the premium brand, and I would argue
- 16:19Speaker 1: that Louis Vauton might have more global recognition at this
- 16:23Speaker 1: stage than Triple Dance.
- 16:25Speaker 2: But interesting, we need to get back into business. Speaking
- 16:29Speaker 2: of blue guns, and.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Do you think that Louis Vuitton scrunches last for all
- 16:37Speaker 3: than three or four wears?
- 16:39Speaker 2: Well, Hey, I spoke to Marie who's at Northbridge Netball
- 16:43Speaker 2: Association just yesterday and she said her scrunchy saved her
- 16:47Speaker 2: life on the daily, her hair dress. She's not allowed
- 16:50Speaker 2: to use elastics in her hair anymore. That's your hair.
- 16:53Speaker 2: And she even said this yesterday, still wears it, So Liz,
- 16:56Speaker 2: she got hers a year and a bit ago and
- 16:58Speaker 2: it's still going strong and it gets day. I suspect
- 17:02Speaker 2: that was one of the first made.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Ronda was wearing hers when I saw her at the
- 17:08Speaker 1: Whoo so the one and only Swift's game they've won
- 17:10Speaker 1: this year. But anyway, when she came to say hello,
- 17:13Speaker 1: she had her scrunchy on and that's more than a
- 17:16Speaker 1: year old now.
- 17:16Speaker 2: So yes, come, let's tea.
- 17:22Speaker 1: How did we give it a limited edition? And for
- 17:24Speaker 1: those of you who were new to the podcast, were
- 17:27Speaker 1: used to run a segment and look, we'll still run
- 17:28Speaker 1: it if you want to send me a nomination. It's
- 17:31Speaker 1: called Wind Beneath Our Wings. And each week, for a
- 17:34Speaker 1: long time till everyone just kind of stopped sending in nominations,
- 17:39Speaker 1: we would have a Wind Beneath our Wings nomination, and
- 17:42Speaker 1: that is a person who keeps our game alive at
- 17:44Speaker 1: the community level each week. So you know the ones,
- 17:47Speaker 1: the ones who were there earliest on the Saturday morning
- 17:50Speaker 1: with the squeegee getting the water off the courts, the
- 17:53Speaker 1: people who are there late at night, the ones who
- 17:55Speaker 1: are doing selections, the ones who have boxes and boxes
- 17:58Speaker 1: and boxes of uniforms at their house, at the sausage
- 18:02Speaker 1: all of that stuff. People, the ones who have to
- 18:05Speaker 1: send out emails pleading for other parents to give an
- 18:08Speaker 1: hour of their time on the sausage sizzle and get
- 18:11Speaker 1: the response, oh no, I'm busy. It's like, oh are you.
- 18:15Speaker 1: I didn't realize that. Oh I've got a job. We've
- 18:17Speaker 1: all got bloody jobs in Moron anyway. But those people
- 18:20Speaker 1: are Win Beneath Our Wings. And we hand crafted some
- 18:25Speaker 1: no Dribble exclusive scrunchies, and you know, maybe we ran
- 18:29Speaker 1: out of nominations because people thought, well, this is embarrassing
- 18:33Speaker 1: to say thank you to someone with the worst possible
- 18:35Speaker 1: prize they could ever win. But you know there was
- 18:37Speaker 1: a Printhy wine voucher.
- 18:39Speaker 2: It was, which will still be that.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Okay, here's what I'm proposing. We open this up. If
- 18:45Speaker 2: people want to send in for wind Beneath our Wings,
- 18:47Speaker 2: let's do it. If we still have scrunches because we
- 18:50Speaker 2: haven't had enough nominations before the Grand Final, we take
- 18:53Speaker 2: the remaining scrunches to our Grand Final live event, and
- 18:57Speaker 2: they are prizes for a quizzle something rather, but we
- 19:00Speaker 2: give them away in Melbourne, Yes, because they are top
- 19:05Speaker 2: quality and they need to be shared. That's a great
- 19:07Speaker 2: idea that is woman today. I think it's the Champagne.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Tickets are not on sale for that Grand Final function.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Yet We're going to wait until people have had an
- 19:15Speaker 1: opportunity to buy their Grand Final tickets and therefore they'll
- 19:18Speaker 1: make a decision then whether they decide to go to
- 19:22Speaker 1: Melbourne or not. So we don't want you, although you
- 19:24Speaker 1: could just come and build a weekend around our event
- 19:27Speaker 1: and it would still possibly be the best weekend of
- 19:30Speaker 1: your life. And I know there are a lot of
- 19:31Speaker 1: people who are who are doing exactly that. But you know,
- 19:35Speaker 1: we're waiting and making allowing people to make decisions as
- 19:38Speaker 1: an entirety about their weekends. So those aren't on sale yet,
- 19:41Speaker 1: but we will have an event the night before the
- 19:43Speaker 1: grand final.
- 19:44Speaker 3: There you go. So look, I'm going to say, I've
- 19:47Speaker 3: just been sitting here listening to us chat and about
- 19:49Speaker 3: the long and storied history of our podcast, and I
- 19:52Speaker 3: don't think we acknowledge it really at the start, Carolyn,
- 19:55Speaker 3: how this podcast wouldn't exist without you? Yes, let's be fair.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I mean you send us all the links, you do,
- 20:03Speaker 3: all the chatting, you do, all with you know, external suppliers,
- 20:06Speaker 3: and you sort everything out and and I are so
- 20:09Speaker 3: on your coattails. So just a little cheers to you, Carolyn.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Swindell absolutely lizealous. We have said many a time that
- 20:19Speaker 2: this would have died in the ars light week two
- 20:22Speaker 2: ifout you. So yeah.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Well, the secret to a happy marriage is when you
- 20:28Speaker 1: feel like the other party is doing more than you are,
- 20:32Speaker 1: and I certainly feel and I'm sure this is no
- 20:34Speaker 1: false modesty. So when we started this podcast together, I
- 20:38Speaker 1: had a small and deeply disturbed following from my stand
- 20:40Speaker 1: up comedy. But people would be going who is this?
- 20:43Speaker 1: And she's coattailing. So I feel like I've coattailed just
- 20:46Speaker 1: as much, and we have all contributed equally to this
- 20:50Speaker 1: success of this wonderful thing. But also, you know all
- 20:53Speaker 1: of those people we talked about earlier on the dribblers
- 20:55Speaker 1: who have just gone, you know what, this is fun.
- 20:58Speaker 1: I want to make some nice content. I want to
- 21:00Speaker 1: give people a laugh. I want to build people up.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I want to encourage them. People who are introducing themselves
- 21:05Speaker 1: and what they're doing in the netball world. It's just
- 21:08Speaker 1: it's primo. I love that we have this nice space.
- 21:11Speaker 1: I feel like we are the Ted Lasso of podcasts
- 21:15Speaker 1: and the internet generally that it's like, you know, we've
- 21:18Speaker 1: got no space here for nastiness. We just want to
- 21:22Speaker 1: have a laugh and have a good time.
- 21:25Speaker 3: And Captain does with the cookies.
- 21:26Speaker 1: And champagne beach. I'm a bit low tied, and we
- 21:30Speaker 1: need to take a break and then come back and
- 21:32Speaker 1: have a netball chat.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I'm in my house already, I don't have to drive anywhere,
- 21:35Speaker 1: but yeah, we'll have a quick break and then we'll
- 21:37Speaker 1: come back and talk netball. Okay, so netball. It has
- 21:53Speaker 1: been a huge, huge, week in netball on a number
- 21:57Speaker 1: of levels. We had another incredible of netball.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Let's just say it like it was. It was a
- 22:03Speaker 2: shit of a tip of weekend.
- 22:05Speaker 1: It was a shit of a tipping weekend. How many
- 22:06Speaker 1: did you get? Well we'll get to that all right, Okay,
- 22:11Speaker 1: but look, yeah, Liz, first thing that happened last week
- 22:14Speaker 1: was on Thursday we found out the news that netball
- 22:18Speaker 1: is going back to free to air.
- 22:21Speaker 3: So yeah, look, it's been a really long process. I'm
- 22:25Speaker 3: super excited, as many many people within the sport. So
- 22:30Speaker 3: we started this process in October last year and there
- 22:34Speaker 3: was interest from all channels and it was just a
- 22:37Speaker 3: matter of sifting through strategically what was the best choice.
- 22:41Speaker 3: And we signed with nine actually the night of the
- 22:44Speaker 3: Swift Dinners, so Catherine, when I turned up late and
- 22:47Speaker 3: was distracted, Oh so that's why I was a bit
- 22:51Speaker 3: all over the shop and I got there late and
- 22:53Speaker 3: I didn't get to sort of have the pre drink
- 22:55Speaker 3: to everybody. But also, yeah, there you go. So look,
- 23:00Speaker 3: there's been a little bit of talk about what does
- 23:02Speaker 3: this mean, and I guess you're never going to get it.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Like if you try and please everyone, you please no
- 23:07Speaker 3: one right, So the decision was taken in the best
- 23:10Speaker 3: interest of the sport. That's pretty much how I take
- 23:13Speaker 3: all my decisions and how the Netball Australian Management Board
- 23:15Speaker 3: take all of their decisions. And this deal gives us
- 23:19Speaker 3: visibility on free to air. It also means that for
- 23:21Speaker 3: twenty twenty seven, every game is live and free on
- 23:25Speaker 3: one of Nine's platforms. So in twenty twenty seven there'll
- 23:28Speaker 3: be two games live on Channel nine's linear Platforms, which
- 23:33Speaker 3: is one of the free to channels at nine have,
- 23:36Speaker 3: and then the other two games in each round will
- 23:38Speaker 3: be on nine Now, which is a streaming platform, and
- 23:42Speaker 3: then every game will be available on stand So that's
- 23:46Speaker 3: twenty twenty seven. The other thing to know about that
- 23:48Speaker 3: is that all of the Netball World Cup games will
- 23:51Speaker 3: be live and free across the nine network, which is
- 23:56Speaker 3: really exciting, right. And the Diamonds, all the Diamonds International
- 24:00Speaker 3: and all the Diamonds matches at the World Cup, all
- 24:02Speaker 3: the semi finals in the final will be on many
- 24:04Speaker 3: A television of freedom air. So it's a really great
- 24:07Speaker 3: deal to get netball back and get netball visible in
- 24:09Speaker 3: that freedom air landscape, which is still really important. Even
- 24:12Speaker 3: though the landscape is changing. But and then after that
- 24:16Speaker 3: there is the possibility that two games a week will
- 24:18Speaker 3: go to STAND and two games a week will stay
- 24:19Speaker 3: on free to air. So you know, all that is
- 24:22Speaker 3: in the public domain. I know the brick carter on
- 24:24Speaker 3: the ABC website basically sum it up like that, So
- 24:28Speaker 3: that's no surprises. There is a bit to be worked
- 24:30Speaker 3: through about you know what time the games will be
- 24:32Speaker 3: on when exactly which channel, But I think overarching the
- 24:37Speaker 3: fact that we've got netball back live on free to air.
- 24:39Speaker 3: But if you do want to buy a STAND subscription,
- 24:42Speaker 3: you can do that. And I think you know when
- 24:44Speaker 3: you speak to Amanda Lang, who sort of really crafted
- 24:47Speaker 3: the deal for nine, who has been an incredible supporter
- 24:51Speaker 3: of netball, I will say for years. So what she
- 24:54Speaker 3: said to me is that their strategy is about they
- 24:57Speaker 3: want the sport to be wherever you watch your sports.
- 24:59Speaker 3: So if you watch your on stream, it'll be there
- 25:02Speaker 3: on streaming. If you want to watch your sport on
- 25:03Speaker 3: free to air, it'll be on free to air, And
- 25:05Speaker 3: if you want to watch your sport on stand, it'll
- 25:06Speaker 3: be there on Stand. So it's really exciting. It gives
- 25:09Speaker 3: us a great launch pain it's not the end of
- 25:11Speaker 3: the work, it's the start of the work. We need
- 25:13Speaker 3: to now go out and make sure that we use
- 25:16Speaker 3: this moment to really sure up the future of the sport.
- 25:18Speaker 3: So but at the end of the day, I just
- 25:20Speaker 3: sat back and when we announced it, and I thought,
- 25:22Speaker 3: this is a really good deal for our sport, particularly
- 25:25Speaker 3: in terms of the visibility.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Well done you because we know that's been one of
- 25:28Speaker 2: the big, big jobs that was on your list. It's
- 25:31Speaker 2: a long, long list, but that's one tick off and
- 25:34Speaker 2: it's a huge one. So congrats to you and.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Absolutely, oh look, thank you. And I didn't have a
- 25:39Speaker 3: huge amount to do with the actual negotiations, Steph, I'll try.
- 25:42Speaker 3: We actually let a lot of it. And she's just
- 25:44Speaker 3: she's someone who's got an enormous amount of experience, she's dedicated,
- 25:49Speaker 3: she loves netball, she plays in it all, she really
- 25:52Speaker 3: wants the best for the sport, and to have her
- 25:54Speaker 3: leading it was just amazing.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Congratulations Steff. So there's a couple of questions. I know
- 25:59Speaker 1: a lot of dribbler are cautiously optimistic. So first it
- 26:03Speaker 1: was excellent. See how many people jumped online and started
- 26:06Speaker 1: bitching about yeah, free to wear this will mean one
- 26:08Speaker 1: game and you have to pay for everything else. But
- 26:10Speaker 1: next year when you get absolutely everything, including the World Cup.
- 26:13Speaker 1: But you know, I love it when people will just
- 26:15Speaker 1: immediately the sky is falling and jump to conclusions without
- 26:19Speaker 1: waiting for Oh, I know, but there are questions around
- 26:25Speaker 1: our there's a really awesome commentary line up at the moment,
- 26:28Speaker 1: and Catherine, I'm not going to ask you to comment
- 26:30Speaker 1: on this, obviously, but a lot of Dribblers are really
- 26:33Speaker 1: keen to see the existing commentary line being taken into
- 26:37Speaker 1: Channel nine. So Channel nine, if you're listening, we're excited
- 26:40Speaker 1: and we're behind you, but you know, we don't want
- 26:42Speaker 1: to see I don't want to see footy commentators jumping
- 26:46Speaker 1: on and starting to call netball. I'm not going to
- 26:49Speaker 1: ask Liz or Kath to comment on this at the
- 26:50Speaker 1: moment because it's difficult for both of them, but I'm
- 26:52Speaker 1: just saying, as a fan and someone actively engaged in
- 26:55Speaker 1: the sport, I'm really hoping that you will get expert
- 26:59Speaker 1: commentators in our game around that.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Actually, it's an interesting point and I'm not going to
- 27:04Speaker 2: comment too much about it either. But when we did
- 27:06Speaker 2: first start with nine, we did have one of the
- 27:09Speaker 2: nine journalists that was hosting most of the games, Liz,
- 27:13Speaker 2: and then there'd be a couple of the expert netbal experts.
- 27:16Speaker 2: But I feel like since then, we're far more accomplished
- 27:20Speaker 2: in doing those roles ourselves. I don't know that we
- 27:23Speaker 2: had that many people that could do it then. It's
- 27:25Speaker 2: probably aside from Liz and from Sue. So who I mean,
- 27:29Speaker 2: who knows. We've got no idea what that's going to
- 27:32Speaker 2: look like. When that's going to look like we just
- 27:33Speaker 2: got to finish.
- 27:34Speaker 3: A big year.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Yeah, Well nine has taken this on smartly. They know
- 27:38Speaker 1: that this is a sport that means a lot to
- 27:41Speaker 1: a lot of people. It's a growth sport, it's a
- 27:43Speaker 1: growth sport for men, it's a great entertainment product. So
- 27:48Speaker 1: I don't think they're going to do what they did
- 27:50Speaker 1: with it last time. But you know, given I have
- 27:52Speaker 1: a microphone, and given that I have a lot of
- 27:55Speaker 1: netbull fans who talked to us via our social pages,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I thought it would be remissive me to not make
- 28:00Speaker 1: this point. But I think it's bloody exciting.
- 28:04Speaker 2: What is going to be exciting, I think too, is
- 28:06Speaker 2: the opportunity to see more of the athletes with the
- 28:10Speaker 2: cross promotion stuff. Liz Harper and I were watching The
- 28:13Speaker 2: Floor last night, which is a Channel nine show, and
- 28:16Speaker 2: they had Stephen Bradbury as one of the contestants because
- 28:19Speaker 2: he did the Olympics with nine. They had some of
- 28:22Speaker 2: the travel guides people I think must be on nine
- 28:25Speaker 2: as well. Like they had a lot of different people
- 28:27Speaker 2: on that particular show that are from their other nine shows.
- 28:30Speaker 2: And I was thinking when I was watching that, how
- 28:32Speaker 2: great if that was a platform for all our netballers
- 28:35Speaker 2: to be doing all those other bits and pieces and
- 28:38Speaker 2: to be able to see them out out in the
- 28:40Speaker 2: wild and and you know, just off the court.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it might be Catherine Cox on maths.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Are we still on this?
- 28:53Speaker 1: What about the Bachelortte? What channels that on?
- 28:56Speaker 2: No, you have to do you have to pash people.
- 29:01Speaker 2: There's pashing. They all end up snogging on with people.
- 29:04Speaker 1: There's also alcohol.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Catherine snogging on is someone on live television? Can you imagine?
- 29:11Speaker 3: Yeah? Well, I'm saying to do it in public places
- 29:13Speaker 3: before there's a camera.
- 29:17Speaker 2: That's for the lucky few, not for the whole country
- 29:19Speaker 2: to see.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Honestly, I reckon. I'm glass of champagne away from getting
- 29:24Speaker 1: you to pash me today.
- 29:30Speaker 3: Cool it is, but yeah, go to that point. The
- 29:32Speaker 3: cross promotion is amazing. The nine publicity machine is amazing,
- 29:36Speaker 3: and again it's about profiling our athletes and getting them
- 29:39Speaker 3: out to the wider public. You know, there's lots of
- 29:41Speaker 3: opportunities with other businesses at nine own like the Q
- 29:44Speaker 3: and Miss media business at They're Bought, which is outdoor
- 29:47Speaker 3: advertising to drive people to games and to physically buy
- 29:51Speaker 3: two bits and also to watch I'm Telly. So yeah.
- 29:54Speaker 3: I mean it's not just relying on cops that to
- 29:56Speaker 3: go on maths can There's a lot of other things
- 29:59Speaker 3: that can be done. Is exciting.
- 30:01Speaker 2: It's so good.
- 30:02Speaker 1: And before we move on to what happened in netball
- 30:04Speaker 1: on the weekend, I just want to say this is
- 30:06Speaker 1: an opportunity for US netball fans. We have long said
- 30:10Speaker 1: that the media has not given us a fair crack.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Here.
- 30:12Speaker 1: We've got four games a week going to be free
- 30:15Speaker 1: next week in sun Clops Supernetwork. We have to watch them.
- 30:18Speaker 1: We have to help people understand and find our sport
- 30:21Speaker 1: and start to enjoy it. We have to go to
- 30:23Speaker 1: games when we can, and we have to be getting
- 30:25Speaker 1: behind this being on free to air and showing nine
- 30:29Speaker 1: that this is the smartest business decision they've ever made.
- 30:32Speaker 1: What we want is in ten years at someone's retirement
- 30:35Speaker 1: party or whatever, when they're getting the gold Rolex, to
- 30:38Speaker 1: be told that was the moment that you changed the
- 30:41Speaker 1: course of history in television in Australia. So this is
- 30:45Speaker 1: our opportunity. We've got the World Cup here, We've got
- 30:48Speaker 1: all of this on free to wear. We have to
- 30:50Speaker 1: watch it, we have to be supporting it, and we
- 30:52Speaker 1: have to use this opportunity because that next year is
- 30:55Speaker 1: the only year where all of this is going on
- 30:57Speaker 1: free toware and beyond that they have the choice. We
- 30:59Speaker 1: need to show them that, no bloody joyce here, this
- 31:02Speaker 1: is the smartest thing you can do. Here endeth the
- 31:05Speaker 1: sermon on.
- 31:07Speaker 2: That note, though, of course it does mean that the
- 31:09Speaker 2: relationship with Fox will end up. But I just would
- 31:12Speaker 2: love to say a shout out to them as well,
- 31:14Speaker 2: because what we have done in the last five years
- 31:17Speaker 2: for the sport I think is amazing. We started with
- 31:19Speaker 2: a couple of magazine shows. We had Center Circle, we
- 31:22Speaker 2: had Pivot, we had a vodcast that was happening as well,
- 31:26Speaker 2: plenty of player profile stories, have been done behind the
- 31:29Speaker 2: scenes and stuff like that, and so I think that
- 31:32Speaker 2: deserves a little pad on the back and all the
- 31:34Speaker 2: team that's been involved in that as well. It's been
- 31:36Speaker 2: incredible and it's been great to see so many of
- 31:38Speaker 2: the athletes really you know, with the spotlight on them,
- 31:41Speaker 2: and we hope we can just continue to do that.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, and a number of that that's a lot
- 31:45Speaker 1: of the chat on the Facebook group two is that
- 31:48Speaker 1: the quality of the broadcast product that we've had out
- 31:53Speaker 1: of Fox and some of the concerns about moving away
- 31:55Speaker 1: from Foxtel there because they have done such a sensational
- 31:58Speaker 1: job and it has been has been wonderful.
- 32:00Speaker 3: For the sport. Absolutely, and I think, you know, cuteos
- 32:04Speaker 3: to Fox. They came out straight away and sort of
- 32:06Speaker 3: wish to saw the best, but committed to delivering the
- 32:08Speaker 3: rest of this season in the best way possible. So
- 32:11Speaker 3: you know, that's that's something that we can all be
- 32:14Speaker 3: really grateful for.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Fantastic. So while we're watching though on Fox Tell at
- 32:18Speaker 1: the moment, there is a there was a Round six
- 32:20Speaker 1: on the weekend and well, finally we've seen we now
- 32:24Speaker 1: have a clear leader at the top of the table.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Did you tip that I did. Are you talking about
- 32:29Speaker 2: the tipping table or the actual sun corpse?
- 32:31Speaker 1: The actual sun cops the table. So we had that
- 32:34Speaker 1: the two leaders go head to head, both undefeated up
- 32:36Speaker 1: until this point. There had to be a winner, and
- 32:39Speaker 1: the Vixens have come out as as the winner in
- 32:41Speaker 1: that game.
- 32:42Speaker 2: I did not tip them, But the Vixens have been
- 32:46Speaker 2: destroying teams in the fourth quarter Cord. They destroyed teams
- 32:50Speaker 2: I think just by chipping away, But it seems it's
- 32:52Speaker 2: fourth quarter domination is next level this season. Thunderbirds were
- 32:56Speaker 2: Vixened on the weekend the win before. Can't remember who
- 32:59Speaker 2: they play. They were Vixen in the final quarter Swiftly.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, or where the Vixen is swifted. I
- 33:09Speaker 1: don't know.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Anyway, it is another level of their game. Are we
- 33:14Speaker 2: nervous that they're looking so perfect and haven't had a
- 33:17Speaker 2: loss yet, because that was the Swifties last year and
- 33:20Speaker 2: it didn't end well for them.
- 33:22Speaker 1: It's hard to see how things go sour for the Vixens.
- 33:28Speaker 1: I mean, I guess they could get a massive run
- 33:30Speaker 1: of Gastro or something like that that could go through
- 33:33Speaker 1: the whole team. But even then, their bench has such
- 33:37Speaker 1: depth and they have you know, it's it is. It's
- 33:41Speaker 1: not reliant on flashes of brilliance in any single part
- 33:45Speaker 1: of the court, because they are so consistent across the
- 33:48Speaker 1: entire court. It's amazing.
- 33:50Speaker 2: It's dogged attitude.
- 33:51Speaker 3: For me.
- 33:52Speaker 2: That's the difference with them and other teams. They will
- 33:56Speaker 2: not say die and that's what they're showing us in
- 33:59Speaker 2: these fourth quarter blitzers. But we saw that last year.
- 34:03Speaker 2: This time last year they were in seventh position. Like
- 34:06Speaker 2: crazy to think that they then won through the rest
- 34:09Speaker 2: of the season, make their way to the Grand Final
- 34:11Speaker 2: and win it. But now that they're winning from the start,
- 34:15Speaker 2: what does that look like? I agree with you. I
- 34:16Speaker 2: think it's the mental attitude for them that is very
- 34:19Speaker 2: different and that's not something that you can beat.
- 34:22Speaker 1: They're so calm. There's just see. I think last week
- 34:26Speaker 1: we saw the Thunderbirds rattled a bit by the Giants,
- 34:29Speaker 1: So you know, I think the Thunderbirds have some absolute
- 34:33Speaker 1: brilliance in so many places on the court. But I
- 34:35Speaker 1: thought the Vixens were going to win this because of
- 34:37Speaker 1: their their serenity.
- 34:39Speaker 3: I reckon there two things about the Vixens that stair.
- 34:41Speaker 3: That is one the stability of their liner, right, so
- 34:44Speaker 3: they don't have to spend They didn't have to spend
- 34:47Speaker 3: any time this year figuring out how to play with
- 34:50Speaker 3: each other under pressure.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Right.
- 34:51Speaker 3: So for the Swiss last year, Grace Swecky was new.
- 34:54Speaker 3: You know, there's a number of teams that are betting
- 34:56Speaker 3: in new players. The Victens are the only team that
- 34:58Speaker 3: didn't need to bet in new player, right, so they
- 35:01Speaker 3: can pick up where they left off. And I don't
- 35:02Speaker 3: think we can underestimate how what an advantage that is.
- 35:06Speaker 3: And I think the other thing is that they are
- 35:08Speaker 3: one of the few teams that have a number of
- 35:10Speaker 3: avenues to the goal.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 35:12Speaker 3: So if you're playing against Swifts or Thunderbirds or Fever,
- 35:18Speaker 3: you know that the goal shooter is going to shoot
- 35:21Speaker 3: just about all the goals, right, so you can set
- 35:22Speaker 3: up a game plan around that. If you're playing against Vixens,
- 35:26Speaker 3: your defensive game plan is about two players who can
- 35:29Speaker 3: step up and hurt you, right. So it's actually harder
- 35:31Speaker 3: to play, and it's more exhausting, and you've got to
- 35:33Speaker 3: do more work. And so by the time they come
- 35:35Speaker 3: to the end of the game, the Vixens just roll
- 35:38Speaker 3: on and I reckon defensive league teams fall away because
- 35:41Speaker 3: it's just not used to having to work that hard
- 35:43Speaker 3: against any other team. I just think it's really tempting
- 35:47Speaker 3: to have that really strike shooter, and they do deliver,
- 35:50Speaker 3: there is absolutely no doubt about that. But I do
- 35:53Speaker 3: wonder if the game now evolves to looking at the
- 35:55Speaker 3: Vixens and what they do and going, ah, they've been
- 35:58Speaker 3: really successful at this, do we maybe move to that
- 36:01Speaker 3: style of attack? It's it's I think they're sort of
- 36:04Speaker 3: a bit ahead of the curve.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, And Kira Austin one of those players.
- 36:08Speaker 2: One hundred games on the weekend too, was awesome to see.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Amazing. We've got to talk about Dannell two thousand goals
- 36:14Speaker 1: on the weekend too. Some big milestones. Ah, I mean,
- 36:18Speaker 1: not as big as one hundred podcasts arguably, but you
- 36:21Speaker 1: know there's one of them making those milestones.
- 36:24Speaker 3: There's there's three of us.
- 36:25Speaker 1: So yeah, I thought that was that was really exciting.
- 36:30Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't like a few weeks ago,
- 36:33Speaker 1: I thought the Thunderbirds are absolutely unbeatable, and now I'm
- 36:38Speaker 1: wondering whether the Vixens are. So Vixens are going to
- 36:43Speaker 1: w a this week caren't they.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Yes, And I think the Giants have got No, it
- 36:48Speaker 2: can't be the Giants. The Lightning's got Thunderbirds yeah, this weekend,
- 36:52Speaker 2: so I.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Think Thunderbeds will probably win. So I think teams that
- 36:55Speaker 1: look to me like they are starting a surge. So
- 36:59Speaker 1: Narrative talk to team postgame and talked about launch pad moments,
- 37:02Speaker 1: and that was at the end of last week's game
- 37:03Speaker 1: when they nearly defeated the Thunderbirds, and I feel like
- 37:07Speaker 1: I feel like the Giants are likely to continue to improve.
- 37:12Speaker 1: I feel like the Firebirds, it feels like they are
- 37:19Speaker 1: on the improve and Fever in spite of it was
- 37:23Speaker 1: a loss to not have Alice Tea now on the weekend,
- 37:25Speaker 1: but they managed to I think cope well with that too.
- 37:29Speaker 1: So I feel like they're on the move. My poor
- 37:31Speaker 1: old Swifts, I'm not sure where they are at the moment.
- 37:35Speaker 1: An enormous amount of talent and I don't know. I
- 37:37Speaker 1: don't know where they're going. I don't see I don't
- 37:39Speaker 1: think the Lightning are on the move upwards. I know
- 37:41Speaker 1: they're back in the four, but I think there are
- 37:43Speaker 1: teams and I'm not sure what's happening with the maps.
- 37:45Speaker 1: I thought their surge was on, but then, not surprisingly,
- 37:48Speaker 1: they didn't win on the weekend.
- 37:49Speaker 2: How good was Jared Murphy's spray though he's been very
- 37:54Speaker 2: calm right throughout the season anytime there's been a camera
- 37:56Speaker 2: in the huddle, but his spray was and he knew
- 37:59Speaker 2: the was there and didn't give a rats ass. And
- 38:02Speaker 2: I freaking love it. I love it, And they responded.
- 38:06Speaker 2: They came out and won the middle two quarters of
- 38:08Speaker 2: the game. Sometimes you need to kick up the butt.
- 38:12Speaker 2: And the fact that he didn't care who was watching
- 38:14Speaker 2: it was brilliant.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Loved it. They weren't playing like MAVs in the first
- 38:17Speaker 1: two quarters.
- 38:18Speaker 2: But no, well they only got nine in the first quarter.
- 38:21Speaker 3: It was interesting.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, very interesting. But I mean, no one's out
- 38:26Speaker 2: of it because we have seen we showed a little
- 38:27Speaker 2: graphic and pivot on the weekend. There wasn't even the
- 38:30Speaker 2: Magpies from eighth this time of year around after round six,
- 38:34Speaker 2: sitting in eighth in twenty twenty two and they made finals.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Oh wow, So no one's out of it, and it's
- 38:39Speaker 2: very close down. It's a couple of wins for those
- 38:42Speaker 2: teams down the bottom half of the ladder. And they're
- 38:44Speaker 2: in the top half.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Yeah, well what maps and lightning have sort of swat
- 38:47Speaker 1: places a couple of times and five Birds of clas
- 38:51Speaker 1: reby back door and I'm loving watching her. I feel
- 38:54Speaker 1: like she's been doing a good job under very difficult
- 38:57Speaker 1: circumstances for a couple of years. But it's really nice
- 39:00Speaker 1: to see her be able to get a little bit
- 39:01Speaker 1: more of a platform to showcase her her excellence.
- 39:06Speaker 2: That whole Queensland side the second half of that game
- 39:08Speaker 2: was mental. Given they had three experienced midquarters on the bench,
- 39:11Speaker 2: they had to have two debutantes in the game. Cholock
- 39:14Speaker 2: had been averaging about seventy percent shooting for the season.
- 39:18Speaker 2: She was sixteenth for accuracy. She was what sixtexteen wow
- 39:23Speaker 2: for accuracy in the league, which is mental, and she
- 39:25Speaker 2: was ninety five percent shooting on the weekend. It just
- 39:28Speaker 2: all clicked in the second half of the game. They
- 39:31Speaker 2: are incredible And I reckon very similar to what you're
- 39:34Speaker 2: saying with the Giants. I think there's more winds brewing
- 39:37Speaker 2: just under the surface. Giants playing the Swifts on the
- 39:39Speaker 2: weekend though it's the Battle of the Bridge home.
- 39:43Speaker 3: Hey, can we just talk about the Firebirds debutantes Jess Maguia. Yes,
- 39:49Speaker 3: her debut, which is really exciting. So I'm friends with
- 39:52Speaker 3: her dad, Jay, and kids from play school would know
- 39:56Speaker 3: that he like, you know, I said to my kids, Oh,
- 39:59Speaker 3: this is just guy her dad saying the CD that
- 40:01Speaker 3: we used to listen to. Oh, that's really random. But
- 40:08Speaker 3: I've known Jay for a long time and he's always
- 40:10Speaker 3: talked to me about Jess and what an amazingly talented family.
- 40:13Speaker 3: One daughters Moan and the other ones you know Debuilion
- 40:16Speaker 3: from the Firebirds and one of his sons is a
- 40:19Speaker 3: performer as well. So just an amazing family. And he
- 40:23Speaker 3: spoke to me ages ago about you know, his girl,
- 40:25Speaker 3: and you know, she left Sydney to really pursue her
- 40:28Speaker 3: dreams in Queensland. So it was just such a lovely
- 40:30Speaker 3: thing to see her make her debut. And you know,
- 40:33Speaker 3: I'm friends with him on Facebook and he was so
- 40:35Speaker 3: proud and he was writing beautiful messages about you know
- 40:37Speaker 3: the fact that she did follow her dreams and you
- 40:40Speaker 3: know a few times she did wonder she'd ever make it,
- 40:42Speaker 3: but to see that happen for her on the weekend
- 40:44Speaker 3: was really lovely.
- 40:45Speaker 2: We had her in the press conference after the game,
- 40:48Speaker 2: and she they're obviously a very close knit family as well,
- 40:51Speaker 2: and she did say that, Oh my god, my dad's
- 40:54Speaker 2: probably on social media right now talking about this. He
- 40:57Speaker 2: shouts this stuff from the rooftops. But he was nearly
- 41:00Speaker 2: in tears when we asked about the family because they're
- 41:03Speaker 2: all in America. Yes, so no one was at the game.
- 41:07Speaker 2: She said Dad delayed his flight so he could watch
- 41:10Speaker 2: it live, but none of them were at the venue.
- 41:12Speaker 2: So she was upset by that. But I mean, end
- 41:14Speaker 2: of the day, that'd be so proud of her. That
- 41:16Speaker 2: was a sixty minute game, and she was fantastic on
- 41:18Speaker 2: the bootma and she's twenty six.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Oh wow, Okay, it's a Shannie lambdon.
- 41:24Speaker 3: Yeah, and I love that she's stuck to it and
- 41:27Speaker 3: she's her dreams come true. I suspect when her foundly
- 41:29Speaker 3: got back, Bubby's caught sign watching her play because she
- 41:32Speaker 3: was so good. But yeah, it's such a good story,
- 41:34Speaker 3: and I can confirm that Jay was on Socials within
- 41:39Speaker 3: about love it fantastic.
- 41:42Speaker 1: So let me give you a quick update on the
- 41:44Speaker 1: competition that really matters, which is the Vala Dribbler's Tipping Camp,
- 41:47Speaker 1: and particularly the Hosts and Heroes group that we have there,
- 41:53Speaker 1: so I'll get to that shortly. Our tip of the
- 41:55Speaker 1: round is Samoan and Ashley ninety five, who supports the
- 41:58Speaker 1: Vixen's and has won herself a fifty valor gift Foucher
- 42:01Speaker 1: for submitting her tips this week and being the most accurate.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Zero people got six points this week? No one tipped
- 42:08Speaker 1: that much?
- 42:09Speaker 2: And oh no, but something did anyone get bingo? How
- 42:11Speaker 2: many got big?
- 42:12Speaker 1: Yet we had twenty one people got big, Well done guy,
- 42:15Speaker 1: But three hundred and forty five people got two points,
- 42:18Speaker 1: so you know almost half the comp really struggled with
- 42:23Speaker 1: tipping on the weekend.
- 42:24Speaker 2: You know that all that matters is that I got
- 42:25Speaker 2: one more than Alexa Pruno.
- 42:27Speaker 1: You did so, Alexa, you're para bestI. So in our
- 42:31Speaker 1: Hosts and Heroes group, we have a clear leader. Now
- 42:34Speaker 1: we have fascinators. Who's Lisa Bass who won the comp
- 42:38Speaker 1: last year. She's moved into outright first position on twenty
- 42:41Speaker 1: three points. Then Alexa is on twenty two that she
- 42:45Speaker 1: only got one point this week, So and you and
- 42:47Speaker 1: Darryl Milton the stats man are both sitting on twenty one.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Gord's on twenty. I am on nine teen kieh Le
- 42:55Speaker 1: DeVry who got three points this week. She got the
- 42:58Speaker 1: highest score, which she's sitting on I don't know something
- 43:03Speaker 1: eighteen or something. And Liz, who as we know, only
- 43:06Speaker 1: tips the home teams, is sitting on thirteen points. So
- 43:09Speaker 1: if you've only tipped home games this year, you would
- 43:12Speaker 1: not be doing particular. But we do have two first
- 43:16Speaker 1: places in our main comp so Eryl, I would give
- 43:20Speaker 1: anything just to be like him, has been sitting up
- 43:22Speaker 1: there since very early in the season and is in
- 43:26Speaker 1: equal first place on twenty seven points with defender's rule.
- 43:30Speaker 1: And I think you'd agree with that one, Catherine.
- 43:33Speaker 2: I want to know what they do, what their strategy is,
- 43:36Speaker 2: if they're happy to share just with me maybe.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Well, apparently people are changing their tips based on what idiots.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Why would you do that? Now, I didn't mean that
- 43:47Speaker 2: idiots sounded aggressive? Yeah, I know, I did laugh because
- 43:51Speaker 2: I saw people say that. I was like, guys, why
- 43:53Speaker 2: would I know who? I merely tossed a coin this
- 43:55Speaker 2: week for like every game. I got no idea, But
- 43:58Speaker 2: I want to know what erroo'sup to. So stats involved
- 44:02Speaker 2: in that? Erl or are you just flying by the
- 44:03Speaker 2: seat of your pants, please let me know.
- 44:05Speaker 1: As we know, Nikki Komwo Buckley is aiming for the
- 44:09Speaker 1: Golden Turkey and has done exceptionally well this week and
- 44:12Speaker 1: is now an outright last place having you have to
- 44:16Speaker 1: lodge all your tips each week to be ineligible to
- 44:19Speaker 1: come last. But I thought this was interesting. She tipped
- 44:23Speaker 1: the margin for the Firebirds over the Swifts. She tipped
- 44:26Speaker 1: Firebirds to defeat Swift, so she got at least one point,
- 44:29Speaker 1: but she picked the margin to be one hundred and
- 44:31Speaker 1: ninety nine goals, not far off. No, so she's obviously
- 44:35Speaker 1: a Giants Foundation membership with a little bit of a
- 44:39Speaker 1: little bit of shit on the liver about the Swift's
- 44:41Speaker 1: a little bit of competitive rivalry there. But Tonay, who's
- 44:45Speaker 1: been aiming for it, accidentally got herself i think.
- 44:47Speaker 2: Four from four this week.
- 44:49Speaker 1: She's been trying to get last place but still accidentally
- 44:53Speaker 1: moved herself right up the ladder by picking this crazy week.
- 44:56Speaker 1: What's the what's the slogan for this year? The most
- 44:59Speaker 1: done predicted season yet? So it may may be correct,
- 45:04Speaker 1: but yeah, thank you very much to Valor for supporting
- 45:06Speaker 1: our tip and com all right, we're going to take
- 45:08Speaker 1: a quick break and come back and talk about things
- 45:11Speaker 1: that made us go hm. So Catherine's just had her
- 45:25Speaker 1: little bathroom break. Apparently it was a giant coffee, but
- 45:28Speaker 1: I'm thinking that it's a couple of glasses of celebratory
- 45:31Speaker 1: champagne here to celebrate our one hundredth podcast. But you
- 45:37Speaker 1: did come home, you were up in Queensland, you had
- 45:40Speaker 1: a week away and is there something that made you
- 45:43Speaker 1: go god?
- 45:44Speaker 2: Say?
- 45:55Speaker 3: I had?
- 45:56Speaker 2: Firstly, so I came home, just.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Going to sit back and have a drink while you well,
- 45:59Speaker 1: I have a cold drink out of the fridge.
- 46:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:03Speaker 2: I came home. I had to go straight to the
- 46:06Speaker 2: Netbull to do the game. So I've got a face
- 46:07Speaker 2: full of TV makeup which is inches thick. I just
- 46:11Speaker 2: wanted to go home after that. I got home about
- 46:13Speaker 2: seven point thirty, washed my face, have a hot shower,
- 46:16Speaker 2: maybe have a cup of tea and just Chillah. Walked
- 46:20Speaker 2: in flick the light switch on. Didn't work. I thought
- 46:22Speaker 2: maybe just that bulb's blown. Walked into the kitchen, flicked
- 46:26Speaker 2: that one didn't work. Nothing, complete power out. I've been
- 46:31Speaker 2: away for a week, so my first thought was, no, crap,
- 46:35Speaker 2: how long has it's been off, went to the fridge
- 46:37Speaker 2: and the freezer. Everything warm, so it had been off
- 46:41Speaker 2: for at least half a week, I would imagine. Had
- 46:43Speaker 2: to throw three garbage bags of stuff out of the
- 46:47Speaker 2: fridge and the freezer.
- 46:48Speaker 1: In the dark.
- 46:49Speaker 2: In the dark, Harpers hanging on to me every time
- 46:52Speaker 2: I walked anywhere because she's scared. I had two candles lit,
- 46:56Speaker 2: but she was literally on my coat tails all night.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Couldn't smell so rotten.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Course it was just start and dark. Anyway. I couldn't
- 47:05Speaker 2: get electricis in that night, so we went to bed
- 47:07Speaker 2: early because it was nothing else to do. It was dark.
- 47:10Speaker 2: Woke up and two thousand dollars later have to have
- 47:14Speaker 2: the whole power switchboard thing replaced because it's shut itself
- 47:18Speaker 2: because it's an old building. Yeah, no, groceries alone and
- 47:26Speaker 2: the chocolate were okay. They were wrong, but they're okay.
- 47:31Speaker 3: So you know, these things always happened like at the
- 47:34Speaker 3: worst time, don't they Like we always need a vet
- 47:37Speaker 3: for the cows on a Saturday afternoon, Like the cows
- 47:40Speaker 3: don't ever go down at ten am on Tuesday when
- 47:43Speaker 3: you can probably get a it. It's always like five
- 47:46Speaker 3: pm Friday, seven am Saturday ten am Sunday. You know
- 47:51Speaker 3: it's it's exact, and so of course your power board
- 47:54Speaker 3: shut itself when you were not there. I mean, you're
- 47:58Speaker 3: at home.
- 47:58Speaker 2: All the cows? Is that where that terminologies come from?
- 48:01Speaker 2: When you call someone a cow, it's because they're difficult
- 48:05Speaker 2: to work.
- 48:05Speaker 1: With, but that he likes to call female journalists cows.
- 48:09Speaker 2: But anyway, typical? Is it back on track? I had
- 48:15Speaker 2: enough time with the fridge on cold again to get
- 48:18Speaker 2: the bubbles here, so that's all that matters.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Well, thank you if that's that that does make you
- 48:24Speaker 1: go it was annoying, Well it's sometimes it's a good
- 48:28Speaker 1: excuse for a complete clean out, isn't it. So I
- 48:30Speaker 1: don't even have to decide whether I'm going to use
- 48:32Speaker 1: the remaining fifteen percent of this jar of chutney or whatever.
- 48:37Speaker 1: Site got to go, gotta go. It's all got to go.
- 48:39Speaker 1: I love, I do love throwing stuff out, but that.
- 48:42Speaker 3: Is that's all.
- 48:43Speaker 2: The heartbreaking bit was my sister was down recently and
- 48:46Speaker 2: she made me all these lasagneurs for when I come
- 48:49Speaker 2: home late from things that I can get out, and
- 48:52Speaker 2: they I had to throw them in the bin.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Oh that's that. Yeah, before or spilled milk, spoiled milk.
- 49:01Speaker 1: Don't lie the spoiled milk.
- 49:03Speaker 3: That is tough. Hey, I've got a little bit of
- 49:07Speaker 3: things that make you go home, But a little bit
- 49:08Speaker 3: of a reminder given that the sort of netball season
- 49:12Speaker 3: and sports season is about the start. So on the weekend,
- 49:14Speaker 3: we had a great weekend. We went to armad All
- 49:17Speaker 3: and Tamworth. Four hours drive, three thousand dollars worth of fuel,
- 49:22Speaker 3: thirty thousand dollars worth of field and I don't know
- 49:24Speaker 3: how much it cost, but we took so it was
- 49:26Speaker 3: not cheap. So to watch the kids play netball and rugby.
- 49:30Speaker 3: And one of the things that I noticed watching one
- 49:33Speaker 3: of the games was a couple of parents are coaching
- 49:36Speaker 3: from the sidelines and I could see the kids getting confused,
- 49:40Speaker 3: and to their credit, the coach pulled the parents in
- 49:42Speaker 3: and said, just a reminder, don't coach on the sidelines.
- 49:46Speaker 3: Lots of encouragement, pleased here all you like, but let
- 49:48Speaker 3: us do the coaching so the kids just get the
- 49:51Speaker 3: one message. Anyway. Once he said that, and the parents
- 49:54Speaker 3: all went, oh, yeah, fair enough. It was a different team.
- 49:57Speaker 3: They went on. They did really well, but I just thought, oh,
- 49:59Speaker 3: what a good reminder that you know, unless you unless
- 50:03Speaker 3: you are the coach, you don't coach. And I thought
- 50:05Speaker 3: the coach handed it really well and just throwed away,
- 50:07Speaker 3: nip it into bud with the parents and just said,
- 50:10Speaker 3: you know, just the reminder, and it just shows that,
- 50:12Speaker 3: like the parents, just what's the best for your kid, right,
- 50:15Speaker 3: So you want your kids to sort of put into
- 50:17Speaker 3: place what the coach has been asking, because the parents
- 50:19Speaker 3: weren't saying anything that was different to what the coach
- 50:22Speaker 3: was asking. But like, it's just a reminders we were
- 50:25Speaker 3: go able to watch our kids play sport for the
- 50:27Speaker 3: next couple of months over winter, So just let the
- 50:29Speaker 3: coaches coach. And it's not a reflection on how much
- 50:32Speaker 3: or how little you know, but it's just to stop
- 50:34Speaker 3: the kids getting confused. So that was my little Actually,
- 50:38Speaker 3: that's my little note. No Dribble recommends I should have
- 50:40Speaker 3: actually gone to do. No Dribble recommends, don't coach kids
- 50:43Speaker 3: on the sideline, just you know, must encourage and let
- 50:46Speaker 3: the coaches coach.
- 50:47Speaker 2: And may I add to that, Elizabeth, I think that
- 50:49Speaker 2: is very timely. But also at the end of a game,
- 50:53Speaker 2: chase the umpires down and make an effort to get
- 50:56Speaker 2: eye contact and thank them.
- 50:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:58Speaker 2: Please, because quite often you shake hands with your opponents,
- 51:02Speaker 2: you're talking to your team, and the umpires walk off
- 51:05Speaker 2: the court, and I think it's really important giving them.
- 51:08Speaker 2: A lot of them are juniors. Yes, give them a
- 51:11Speaker 2: thank you. It's important.
- 51:13Speaker 3: Yes, I agree.
- 51:14Speaker 1: No, Driple recommends courtesy, Yes, and role modeling courtesy.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Yes.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Well, I think we're going to have to wrap up
- 51:23Speaker 1: this one hundredth episode so you can go and write
- 51:26Speaker 1: a check to an electrician for an enormous amount of money.
- 51:29Speaker 1: But huge thanks dribblers. Some of you have been with
- 51:32Speaker 1: us since the first episode, some of you are more recent.
- 51:35Speaker 2: We love you all.
- 51:36Speaker 1: We're very grateful to you all for supporting our little
- 51:39Speaker 1: endeavor here. Remember what we're trying to do is we're
- 51:42Speaker 1: not the expert netball podcast where we're going to look
- 51:46Speaker 1: at a play by play. We talk about what netball
- 51:48Speaker 1: means to us, and it's like the conversations you have
- 51:52Speaker 1: when you're in the car on the way to a
- 51:53Speaker 1: netball carnival or on the sidelines, and we want to
- 51:56Speaker 1: keep it social. And you do a wonderful job of
- 51:59Speaker 1: supporting us and encouraging one another and We feel very
- 52:04Speaker 1: touched and proud of this little community that has formed.
- 52:07Speaker 1: But that's that's due to you guys, dribblers. Thank you,
- 52:10Speaker 1: so please do share the podcast because you know, more
- 52:16Speaker 1: love is better for all of us. But we are
- 52:19Speaker 1: very grateful to you all. It's been a great one
- 52:22Speaker 1: hundred episodes and we're hoping to continue, hoping to be
- 52:25Speaker 1: back here as Double Centurions before too long. And yeah,
- 52:29Speaker 1: maybe we'll do that episode live and in the afternoon
- 52:33Speaker 1: so we can drink the champagne.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Yes, cheers to that, Cheers Elizabeth.
- 52:37Speaker 1: But yeahhst neple his to no dribble and ye have
- 52:40Speaker 1: a great week. I'm Caroline Swindle, I'm Catcocks, I'm Lise Ellis.
