- 0:00Speaker 1: We want to escape the rain. It's been nonstop. 106.7
- 0:03Speaker 1: Light FM.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Cubby, Christine, producer Kristen. Monday, September 28th. Thank you for
- 0:07Speaker 2: waking up with us. The Nor'easter kind of winding down,
- 0:10Speaker 2: but we still have rain and mist until about 2
- 0:13Speaker 2: or 3 o'clock this afternoon. Then it should be just
- 0:14Speaker 2: dry by late afternoon. Maybe some sun tomorrow. Actually, definitely
- 0:18Speaker 2: some sun tomorrow.
- 0:20Speaker 1: But, man. What a weekend.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Would you say it was as advertised?
- 0:24Speaker 2: I think for the coastal sections, yeah, there was some flooding.
- 0:29Speaker 2: And I will tell you that I was looking out
- 0:31Speaker 2: the window over the weekend and there were times I
- 0:32Speaker 2: was like, well, it's just a rainy day. Kind of
- 0:35Speaker 2: like I said last week. But then a big gust
- 0:37Speaker 2: would come like, all right, that's that's a nor'easter right there.
- 0:40Speaker 1: OK. But for the most part, I felt like just
- 0:42Speaker 1: a rainy blah weekend. I don't know about you. Did
- 0:44Speaker 1: you watch a lot of TV? Did you catch up
- 0:46Speaker 1: on anything?
- 0:47Speaker 3: No, not a lot of TV. I just didn't. I
- 0:50Speaker 3: did cancel plans, though. You know, and then I was
- 0:53Speaker 3: like you. I'm kind of looking out the window. I'm like,
- 0:54Speaker 3: should I cut? I could have gone or, you know.
- 0:58Speaker 1: A lot of things were canceled. Yeah.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Every it felt like everything was every concert was canceled.
- 1:02Speaker 2: We had friends going to ACDC on Friday. That was canceled.
- 1:05Speaker 2: And then, of course, Global Citizen Festival on Saturday was canceled.
- 1:09Speaker 3: My friends were going to see Ringo Starr and friends.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Oh, right.
- 1:12Speaker 3: That was canceled.
- 1:13Speaker 1: That was canceled.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 2: So I was supposed to do an event actually today
- 1:17Speaker 2: at a golf outing and that was postponed, not canceled, postponed.
- 1:21Speaker 2: They're supposed to have another date for that. But yeah,
- 1:22Speaker 2: it was just one of those weekends where you wanted
- 1:25Speaker 2: to just be in bed all day.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Yes, exactly.
- 1:27Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:28Speaker 1: But you know what?
- 1:29Speaker 2: I tell you, speaking of the weather, I got to
- 1:31Speaker 2: stop being cocky because not only was I cocky last
- 1:34Speaker 2: week with the football picks and I was wrong, but
- 1:36Speaker 2: I was cocky a couple of weeks ago about how
- 1:39Speaker 2: We may not have another 80 degree day for the
- 1:41Speaker 2: rest of the season.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Oops.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Or the rest of the year. There is a forecast
- 1:45Speaker 2: for Thursday that has 80 in New York City.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And I'm hoping it hits 79.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I'm hoping for 79.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:54Speaker 3: What about our clothing? Most of us, I can't tell
- 1:57Speaker 3: you how many of my friends I heard from are like,
- 1:59Speaker 3: I'm going to switch the clothes over this weekend. I'm
- 2:01Speaker 3: going to clear out closets because it was that kind
- 2:03Speaker 3: of weekend. So now we've swapped everything out. So here
- 2:06Speaker 3: comes 80 degrees.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Have you done the flip?
- 2:08Speaker 3: I'm in the middle of the flip.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Oh, so you can go either way then.
- 2:11Speaker 2: If it does hit 80, you have the clothes readily available.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I do have options available.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Nice.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:16Speaker 3: But most people have done the complete flip. Right. So
- 2:20Speaker 3: now we're stuck.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Just get out the Christmas stuff and get out the
- 2:23Speaker 1: winter stuff. Let's just get it over with. Let's just go.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Let's just go. Winter time, baby. Coming up, we got
- 2:27Speaker 1: two pretty cool things. It's Monday. It's Light FM. Thank
- 2:30Speaker 1: you for waking up with us.
- 2:31Speaker 4: More Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:38Speaker 3: I need to tell you two things.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Covey and Christine's.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Two pretty cool things.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Christine, you probably know this, but on Thursday, it's International
- 2:48Speaker 2: Coffee Day.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Oh, no, I did not.
- 2:51Speaker 2: So I found a fun coffee fact. The first webcam
- 2:54Speaker 2: actually was watching a coffee pot. Researchers at Cambridge set
- 2:59Speaker 2: up a camera in 1991 so they could check the
- 3:02Speaker 2: Trojan Room coffee pot without leaving their desks. The images
- 3:07Speaker 2: became available on the web in 1993, creating the very
- 3:11Speaker 2: first webcam. Now, in 2001, the longest-serving pot was auctioned
- 3:16Speaker 2: off on eBay... For $ 5, 000, that pot that.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Was being seen on the webcam.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Five grand back in 2001.
- 3:26Speaker 1: What a great idea. You know, we could put a
- 3:29Speaker 1: little camera.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Keep an eye on our coffee.
- 3:30Speaker 1: At your desk. Yeah. Because we have an old school.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Have you seen the old school potted coffee on the
- 3:35Speaker 1: fifth floor? They have an old school one. Uh-huh.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Where you don't have to like put a K-cup in
- 3:40Speaker 2: or anything.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Oh, like a real pot of coffee.
- 3:41Speaker 1: So you really have to watch it and see when
- 3:42Speaker 1: it's ready. Oh, I love those.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:44Speaker 3: It just tastes really good. Yeah.
- 3:46Speaker 1: What's your cool thing?
- 3:48Speaker 3: Well, these are for our Costco friends. Cubby, producer Kristen,
- 3:52Speaker 3: I'm talking to you. Their famous food court churro is back.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I'm a fan.
- 3:56Speaker 3: After more than two years off the menu, it's a
- 3:59Speaker 3: foot-long twisted churro rolling out nationwide for a limited time, kids,
- 4:04Speaker 3: for $ 1. 49, which makes it cheaper than their double chocolate
- 4:08Speaker 3: chunk cookie that replaced it in 2024. The churro is
- 4:12Speaker 3: warm cinnamon sugar. and it should be at your location
- 4:17Speaker 3: within the next couple of weeks. Some fans are already
- 4:20Speaker 3: pairing it with the food court's soft serve for an
- 4:23Speaker 3: extra cheap churro sundae.
- 4:25Speaker 1: The Costco food people are really breaking this down.
- 4:27Speaker 3: They know what to do with it, yes.
- 4:29Speaker 2: All right, two pretty cool things right here on Light FM.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Happy Monday.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Mort Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Light FM, hope you had a great, safe weekend.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Hopefully you're inside most of the weekend, but some people
- 4:43Speaker 2: were out and about. They had to do things. We
- 4:46Speaker 2: were avoiding murder at our house all weekend long.
- 4:49Speaker 3: That sounds intense.
- 4:50Speaker 1: The Bryant family avoiding murder.
- 4:53Speaker 2: You know, my wife is really good at finding things
- 4:56Speaker 2: on Facebook Marketplace.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 2: She'll find something that is a great price. Either Miles
- 5:02Speaker 2: wants it, like it could be, for example, a great
- 5:05Speaker 2: Cars costume.
- 5:07Speaker 1: You know the movie Cars?
- 5:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Miles wants to be McQueen. How cute.
- 5:10Speaker 2: And she found a great costume on Marketplace for like
- 5:12Speaker 2: five bucks.
- 5:13Speaker 3: That's great.
- 5:14Speaker 2: And there's a really hot item that kids want these
- 5:16Speaker 2: days called Neetos.
- 5:18Speaker 1: They're like squishies.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:20Speaker 2: It's so simple, but they're hot. And so we found
- 5:23Speaker 2: some neatoes. So basically, we spent Saturday and a little
- 5:27Speaker 2: bit of Sunday. Coco, my wife, would say, all right,
- 5:30Speaker 2: put this address in your GPS.
- 5:32Speaker 1: We're going here. And we had amazing pickups.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Whoa. Everything was fine. The one pickup that didn't follow
- 5:39Speaker 2: through was kind of shady. The person already had a
- 5:43Speaker 2: 2.6 ranking, Christine. That wasn't a good sign.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Out of five?
- 5:47Speaker 2: I think five. My wife is on it more, but
- 5:49Speaker 2: I think, is it five, Kristen, on the Facebook marketplace?
- 5:52Speaker 2: Is that your highest rating?
- 5:53Speaker 1: We'll go with five. 2.6, I think, was our rating.
- 5:55Speaker 3: It doesn't sound great.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And a lot of the comments underneath this woman was
- 5:59Speaker 2: flaky and didn't get what I asked for and blah, blah, blah.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Yikes.
- 6:05Speaker 2: So we were communicating with this woman. I forgot what
- 6:08Speaker 2: the item was, but it was something for the kids.
- 6:11Speaker 2: And she said, okay, between 12 and 1, you can
- 6:14Speaker 2: pick it up. and so we're on the way. It's 12.05,
- 6:18Speaker 2: and the woman says, do you need my address?
- 6:21Speaker 1: We're like, of course. We're close.
- 6:22Speaker 2: So she gave us the address. Right there, that's a
- 6:26Speaker 2: bold move. She's showing that she trusts us.
- 6:30Speaker 3: You're not meeting in a parking lot.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Right, right. We're going to her apartment complex, apparently, and
- 6:35Speaker 1: we're on the way.
- 6:36Speaker 2: We're five minutes away, and then this woman sends my
- 6:40Speaker 2: wife a message saying, hey, can I get your phone number?
- 6:43Speaker 2: And my wife was like, I don't mind, but why
- 6:46Speaker 2: do you need my phone number? And she said, well,
- 6:48Speaker 2: I want to message you. And then my wife says,
- 6:50Speaker 2: but we're messaging now here.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Right. On Facebook Messenger.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:55Speaker 2: She thought that was kind of weird. And like 10
- 6:58Speaker 2: minutes went by and we're getting closer to the house.
- 7:01Speaker 2: And all of a sudden we get a Facebook message.
- 7:03Speaker 2: And the woman says to my wife, can't find what
- 7:06Speaker 2: you need.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Oh.
- 7:09Speaker 1: And then my wife goes, okay, cool. She was going
- 7:13Speaker 1: to go, but why? Yeah, yeah. Okay, we'll find another item. Yes.
- 7:17Speaker 1: But it was.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Very weird how we were that close. She gave us
- 7:21Speaker 2: the address. Everything was moving along nicely. And just because
- 7:26Speaker 2: my wife wouldn't.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Give her her phone number, they were messaging fine on
- 7:30Speaker 1: Facebook Messenger.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And then boom. And then we were like, well, maybe
- 7:34Speaker 1: that's why she had a 2.6 rating.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Flaky. Flaky. It always feels a little risky, doesn't it?
- 7:40Speaker 3: It feels a little like just a tad bit dangerous.
- 7:43Speaker 1: You get butterflies. Yeah. And I had a transaction happen
- 7:47Speaker 1: last week in a parking lot.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I did it. Remember I talked about that? Yeah.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I did a pickup for my wife in Perth Amboy
- 7:53Speaker 2: at a Taco Bell parking lot. And I was a
- 7:56Speaker 2: little nervous because the person was coming.
- 7:58Speaker 4: Right.
- 7:58Speaker 1: You know what?
- 7:59Speaker 2: They pulled up. They were super cool. The guy had
- 8:01Speaker 2: his work ID on around his neck. He was just dropping,
- 8:04Speaker 2: you know, just making some money. We're getting our stuff.
- 8:07Speaker 3: You guys have to trust each other. I told you
- 8:08Speaker 3: my friend and Sayre took Eric one time for one
- 8:11Speaker 3: of these excursions. Right. She had something on Facebook marketplace
- 8:15Speaker 3: that was. close to where we live as opposed to
- 8:18Speaker 3: where she lives.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So Eric was like the safety man? Yeah, yeah.
- 8:20Speaker 3: She didn't want to go alone, which I don't blame
- 8:22Speaker 3: her because she's going to somebody's house. But it turned
- 8:26Speaker 3: out when she got to the house, it was just
- 8:28Speaker 3: one elderly lady. It was fine.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Usually, 99% of the time, it's fine.
- 8:33Speaker 3: It was okay. But Eric was there as a backup,
- 8:36Speaker 3: as a buffer, just in case.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I'm curious.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Look, if you could hit us up on text at 44363,
- 8:42Speaker 2: any strange Facebook marketplace or It's not just Facebook Marketplace.
- 8:46Speaker 1: I mean, you can do anything really online.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I mean, I tried to do furniture on there, and
- 8:50Speaker 3: people flaked out every single time.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Oh, you told me you're looking for a dresser.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Now we're looking for a dresser, yes. If you guys
- 8:56Speaker 3: see a nice dresser for Eric, that would be great.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Are you going to pick it up?
- 9:00Speaker 3: We'll pick it up.
- 9:00Speaker 1: All right.
- 9:03Speaker 3: But selling it, I found, was a little tough.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Yeah. Like I was trying to sell furniture and that
- 9:09Speaker 3: involves somebody. Somebody's got to pick it up because it's
- 9:11Speaker 3: a big piece.
- 9:12Speaker 1: And they want to come inside and see it.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Before.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Usually if you can get it done outside.
- 9:17Speaker 3: I know.
- 9:17Speaker 1: It's better. All right, we want to hear from you
- 9:20Speaker 1: on text. It's Light FM coming right back.
- 9:22Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Would you pay for this? It's 106.7 Light FM. Cubby, Christine,
- 9:30Speaker 1: producer Kristen.
- 9:31Speaker 2: We are free, by the way. This radio is free.
- 9:34Speaker 2: But we're talking Instagram here.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Yes. And they have a thing you can now add on.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Instagram Plus.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:40Speaker 3: All right, so here we go. For $ 3. 99 a month,
- 9:43Speaker 3: if you love Instagram, this new feature includes... extending 24-hour
- 9:48Speaker 3: stories to stay visible for longer and pushing them to
- 9:50Speaker 3: the top of users' feeds, alongside expressive reactions so friends
- 9:55Speaker 3: can show extra support and direct messages. The new story
- 9:59Speaker 3: rewatch count feature shows how many times your story was replayed,
- 10:03Speaker 3: while the search viewer sheet lets you check if a
- 10:05Speaker 3: specific person saw your post.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Oh, so I can see if.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Christine Nagy has seen my story multiple times.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Just search to see if I... Right. Story Preview lets
- 10:15Speaker 3: users look at someone's story without showing up on their
- 10:18Speaker 3: viewer list, so you can cloak yourself and go check
- 10:21Speaker 3: out stories. There's also features that help hide actions from
- 10:24Speaker 3: other users, including posting to your profile or highlights without
- 10:28Speaker 3: showing up in friends' feeds. Okay. So if you want
- 10:31Speaker 3: to hide from somebody. Then there's this other feature. We're
- 10:35Speaker 3: still talking about Instagram and how, you know, we've got
- 10:38Speaker 3: an Instagram official and people are doing the hard launch
- 10:40Speaker 3: because you're a couple now. Well, now they're doing a
- 10:43Speaker 3: soft launch. So you can post a picture with your partner,
- 10:47Speaker 3: but blur out their face.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Oh, come on.
- 10:51Speaker 3: So it's a soft launch. They said you can blur
- 10:55Speaker 3: out the entire person if you want. It's becoming a
- 10:57Speaker 3: little trendy when people are starting relationships now to just
- 11:00Speaker 3: show like a hand or a shadow of somebody or,
- 11:05Speaker 3: you know, The profile, but we don't quite see the face.
- 11:07Speaker 3: So now you could take a full-on picture, but just
- 11:10Speaker 3: blur that person.
- 11:11Speaker 1: And then eventually a big reveal.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Yeah, then they'll be revealed when you guys are settled in.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I don't know, Christine.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Would you pay $ 3. 99 for the things that you mentioned,
- 11:20Speaker 2: like longer stories, being pushed up on someone's algorithm?
- 11:25Speaker 1: No. Yeah, I don't know.
- 11:26Speaker 3: No, the blur feature I think is free, but the rest, $ 3. 99. $ 3. 99. No,
- 11:30Speaker 3: because another monthly fee. I'm so tired of monthly fees.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Oh, you're not kidding.
- 11:34Speaker 3: For everything.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Streaming services and all kinds of things.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Everything. Even like my car now. My app to talk
- 11:41Speaker 3: to my car. That used to be free, but that
- 11:43Speaker 3: ran out. Oh, you pay for that? $ 10 a month.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Do you ever go through your subscriptions on your phone?
- 11:47Speaker 3: I should because I know I'm wasting money.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Because sometimes you'll sign up for a free trial and
- 11:53Speaker 2: you'll forget about it.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Oh, yes. And then they get you.
- 11:55Speaker 3: And I think I double pay for some of my
- 11:58Speaker 3: streaming services because... Because, you know, like I pay for
- 12:00Speaker 3: Hulu and I also pay for Disney, but now Disney
- 12:03Speaker 3: and Hulu are a package.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. And like you had it way before they
- 12:08Speaker 1: became a thing together. And so you're paying both separately. Yeah.
- 12:12Speaker 1: You need to look into that.
- 12:14Speaker 3: I need an accountant.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Just for your streaming service.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Just for this. Yeah.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Follow us, by the way.
- 12:19Speaker 2: How about a shameless plug? You can follow me on Instagram,
- 12:22Speaker 2: Paul Cubby Bryant. One long word, Paul Cubby Bryant. And
- 12:25Speaker 2: how about you, Miss Nagy?
- 12:27Speaker 3: The Christine Nagy.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 12:29Speaker 3: N-A-G-Y for the last name. Christine with a C-H. And
- 12:33Speaker 3: producer Kristen.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Although she can't talk.
- 12:36Speaker 2: She is here every day producing our show and doing
- 12:38Speaker 2: fine things. And again, she's producer Kristen.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Yes. With a K.
- 12:43Speaker 3: She's with a K. I'm a C-H.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:46Speaker 3: For the Christine Nagy.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Okay. All right. There we go. What do you have
- 12:50Speaker 1: coming up in the news?
- 12:51Speaker 3: Let's check out the headlines, Cubby. And when you're thinking
- 12:54Speaker 3: about seeing a movie, do you listen to a critic
- 12:55Speaker 3: or television? Do you really go to Instagram and see
- 12:57Speaker 3: what people are saying?
- 12:59Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Morning, Christine.
- 13:04Speaker 3: And good morning, Cubby. And yes, the rain hit hard,
- 13:07Speaker 3: especially the coastlines. Monmouth County was hit very hard. Bradley
- 13:11Speaker 3: Beach in particular in New Jersey. So the rain is
- 13:15Speaker 3: supposed to clear out of here late this afternoon into
- 13:18Speaker 3: the evening. We should finally be seeing a break from that.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Iran's foreign minister says his country is, quote, fully prepared
- 13:25Speaker 3: for more war. This was during an appearance on Meet
- 13:29Speaker 3: the Press, but said also that they are open to diplomacy.
- 13:33Speaker 3: The two giant pandas that were promised by Chinese President
- 13:38Speaker 3: Xi have arrived in the U.S. This is Pingping and Fushuang.
- 13:43Speaker 3: They were welcomed to the zoo in Atlanta on Sunday.
- 13:46Speaker 3: They'll have to remain in quarantine for about a month
- 13:48Speaker 3: before we get to see them, but I'm sure they
- 13:50Speaker 3: are prepared. Absolutely adorable.
- 13:52Speaker 1: But jet-lagged, man.
- 13:54Speaker 3: But jet-lagged, yeah. Give them a little time to get
- 13:56Speaker 3: it together. Tonight's Power Bowl drawing is worth $ 389 million.
- 14:02Speaker 3: If you took one lump sum, if you're the winner,
- 14:05Speaker 3: that's $ 162 million for you.
- 14:07Speaker 1: That'll pay some bills.
- 14:08Speaker 3: That would be so nice. What a relief. Sports, baseball,
- 14:11Speaker 3: Mets lost to the Nationals 6-4 last game of the season.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Yankees played the Red Sox tomorrow, Game 1 of the
- 14:17Speaker 3: Wild Card Series. WNBA Liberty beat the Lynx 91-75 in
- 14:21Speaker 3: their first game of the playoffs. Football Jets lost to
- 14:24Speaker 3: the Lions 31-24. Giants beat the Titans 12-7. Tonight the
- 14:29Speaker 3: Eagles will play the Bears. And in our survivor pool,
- 14:32Speaker 3: we're all even. One strike against all of us because, Cubby,
- 14:36Speaker 3: that was Thursday night football, right?
- 14:37Speaker 1: Thursday night I was wrong and you guys were right
- 14:39Speaker 1: this weekend.
- 14:39Speaker 3: We survived. Kristen and I survived. Bills beat the Chargers.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Chiefs beat the Dolphins. And finally, when you're about to
- 14:45Speaker 3: check out a movie or you're looking for something to
- 14:48Speaker 3: watch on Netflix, do you go to the critics or
- 14:51Speaker 3: do you go to social?
- 14:53Speaker 1: Huh.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Because when it comes to entertainment recommendations, a new poll
- 14:56Speaker 3: says Americans are twice as likely to trust some random
- 15:00Speaker 3: social media user over professional critics right now.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I mean, I look at the stars, too, or the
- 15:05Speaker 1: Rotten Tomatoes.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Rotten Tomatoes. I check that a lot.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I check that.
- 15:09Speaker 3: But yeah, I notice like influencers influence me when it
- 15:12Speaker 3: comes to that stuff. Like I see what they like
- 15:14Speaker 3: and they don't. Research has discovered that only 9% of
- 15:17Speaker 3: us check out critics for advice on what to watch, read,
- 15:19Speaker 3: or play.
- 15:20Speaker 1: All right.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And this is kind of backtracking a bit. It's a
- 15:22Speaker 2: little off topic, but it happened over the weekend.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I thought of you, Christine.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I was going to check out a movie on Amazon Prime,
- 15:29Speaker 2: and it was going to cost $ 8.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:31Speaker 2: And again, Amazon Prime. I have a Prime membership. Why
- 15:35Speaker 2: am I paying for a 30-year-old movie?
- 15:37Speaker 3: I know. It's annoying, isn't it? Why? I know out
- 15:40Speaker 3: of principle we don't do it a lot, too.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Yeah. I know.
- 15:42Speaker 3: I know.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Amazon, hook us up, man. We're paying a bunch. Give
- 15:46Speaker 1: us a free movie. I want to see 16 Candles.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Is that what you wanted to see?
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Aw. It was, you know, 40 years old, actually.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Go to YouTube or something. You can somehow find it.
- 15:54Speaker 1: And get a grainy copy.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah, right.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Mort Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 16:01Speaker 1: What do you got on Britney, Christine?
- 16:05Speaker 2: It's 106.7 Light FM. She knows everything about every artist
- 16:08Speaker 2: because you study.
- 16:09Speaker 3: All this stuff. Just, you know... Wikipedia in my head
- 16:12Speaker 3: right here. You are a walking Wikipedia.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I am.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Now, there is an anonymous source that is saying Sydney
- 16:20Speaker 3: Sweeney has emerged as the leading contender to star in
- 16:23Speaker 3: the Britney Spears biopic. So if you haven't heard, Wicked
- 16:27Speaker 3: director John M. Chu has developed the film for years
- 16:31Speaker 3: since Britney published her memoir, The Woman in Me, and
- 16:34Speaker 3: her involvement has wavered and delayed the project. But right
- 16:37Speaker 3: now it's set to be moving forward again. And talk is,
- 16:40Speaker 3: it would be Sydney Sweeney. Other contenders were, or still are,
- 16:43Speaker 3: Millie Bobby Brown and Addison Rae.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:46Speaker 2: You know, whenever I hear Brittany's name mentioned, I think
- 16:48Speaker 2: about how good she used to smell. I don't know
- 16:50Speaker 2: if she still smells good, but, you know, we've interviewed
- 16:53Speaker 2: her a million times. I know this is a random thing,
- 16:55Speaker 2: but she always had on the perfect perfume.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Did she?
- 16:58Speaker 4: Yes.
- 16:58Speaker 2: And that leads me into, if Brittany smells good, what
- 17:01Speaker 2: do you think the best smelling city in America is?
- 17:04Speaker 1: Do you know they did a whole study?
- 17:06Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 17:07Speaker 2: The best smelling city. It's not always like the first
- 17:09Speaker 2: thing we notice, right? When you go to a city.
- 17:11Speaker 3: New York in the summer, walking past a subway stop
- 17:14Speaker 3: in the rain.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Bottom of the barrel.
- 17:16Speaker 2: But a new study finds Boston is the best smelling U.S.
- 17:20Speaker 1: City.
- 17:21Speaker 2: And how do you determine which is the best smelling
- 17:24Speaker 2: city in America without traveling to every street for a
- 17:27Speaker 2: quick whiff? The study looked at a range of factors
- 17:30Speaker 2: from cleanliness, air quality, to garbage disposal satisfaction. And an
- 17:36Speaker 2: abundance of green spaces.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Oh, nice. So Boston is number one.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Wow.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Smells the best in America.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Congratulations, Boston.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Number two, Washington, D.C. Number three, San Francisco. You know,
- 17:47Speaker 1: you got that nice Pacific air always blowing. Oh, that
- 17:50Speaker 1: fresh air. Yeah.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Keep blowing that fresh air. Seattle's number four. Philadelphia is
- 17:55Speaker 2: number five and the best smelling city in America. We
- 17:58Speaker 2: got Portland, Oregon at number six. So you have a
- 18:01Speaker 2: lot of the west coasts. Because they have that fresh.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Air coming in. Yeah, they've got better odds than we do.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Denver, Colorado is number seven. Baltimore is number eight. Detroit
- 18:13Speaker 2: is number nine. And number 10, Las Vegas, best smelling
- 18:17Speaker 2: city in America.
- 18:18Speaker 1: No New York.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I just said, you know, that fragrant subway smell
- 18:23Speaker 3: where people have, I've seen, relieved themselves.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Yes, it happens. Yeah. I think summer has killed our ranking.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Maybe New York is top 10 in the winter. But
- 18:33Speaker 1: in the summer, no.
- 18:35Speaker 3: In the summer. Yeah, it's a whole different story.
- 18:38Speaker 1: We've got a trivia battle coming up next on Light FM.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Mort Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 18:44Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 18:45Speaker 2: All right, before we get to a trivia battle, some
- 18:48Speaker 2: feel-good news out of Staten Island.
- 18:50Speaker 3: This is so wonderful to talk about a couple that's
- 18:52Speaker 3: giving back and giving back to the community. Richard and
- 18:56Speaker 3: Lois Nikotra. Nicotra. Richard and Lois Nicotra. I want to
- 19:02Speaker 3: get their name right because what they're doing is incredible.
- 19:05Speaker 3: They own and operate hotels, restaurants and office parks right
- 19:08Speaker 3: in Staten Island. And they are on a mission to
- 19:12Speaker 3: pour their profits directly back into the community. They recently
- 19:16Speaker 3: gave away more than eight hundred thousand dollars to local schools,
- 19:20Speaker 3: veteran groups, charities, declaring that giving money away is way
- 19:24Speaker 3: more fun than making it. On top of handing out
- 19:27Speaker 3: cash grants and giving $ 1, 000 to every local elementary school,
- 19:30Speaker 3: a couple is sending hundreds of middle school kids to
- 19:33Speaker 3: see Hamilton on Broadway. They're covering the cost of the tickets,
- 19:36Speaker 3: the buses, even t-shirts for them. Since 2011, Richard and
- 19:41Speaker 3: Lois have given away $ 4. 2 million to charity groups and
- 19:46Speaker 3: scholarship recipients, and this latest donation will give a big
- 19:49Speaker 3: boost to hundreds of students just as the new school
- 19:52Speaker 3: year gets rolling. It gives them something to look forward to.
- 19:55Speaker 1: You're right.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Giving makes you feel good. But $ 4. 2 million giving makes
- 19:59Speaker 2: you feel amazing.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Just incredible. That's wonderful of them. Yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 1: All right.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Now you can win something for free. If you're one
- 20:08Speaker 2: of our two contestants, 1-800-222-1067. But only one can win,
- 20:13Speaker 2: and our prize is... Take it away, Christine.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Tickets to see In the Heights at New York City Center.
- 20:18Speaker 3: This Tony-winning musical is coming to New York City Center
- 20:21Speaker 3: this fall. It gets you dancing in your seat with
- 20:24Speaker 3: its game-changing blend of Latin rhythms, hip-hop, and traditional Broadway sounds.
- 20:28Speaker 3: For tickets, visit nycitycenter.org. Or give us a call and play.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Good luck.
- 20:34Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 20:39Speaker 1: You pretty good at trivia?
- 20:41Speaker 4: Light FM's Trivia Battle.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Well, gloomy Monday in full effect. But hopefully, Christine, we
- 20:46Speaker 2: can brighten somebody's day. Someone's going to win. It's time
- 20:50Speaker 2: for a trivia battle. And on Team Cubby, Jessica from
- 20:52Speaker 2: Long Island. And Jessica, is it true you've played a
- 20:55Speaker 2: few times and never won?
- 20:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I haven't gotten in in a while.
- 20:59Speaker 4: But probably about my third attempt.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Okay, maybe third time's a charm. Who is Jessica's competition, Christine?
- 21:06Speaker 3: We have Megan, also from Long Island. Good morning, Megan.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 21:10Speaker 3: How are you? Doing well. How about you? How's the commute, okay?
- 21:13Speaker 1: Excellent.
- 21:14Speaker 3: I'm on my way to teach these students.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Can't wait.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Oh, great. Thank you for that.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you, teachers. Well, Jessica, you're going to get
- 21:21Speaker 1: three questions. So will you, Megan.
- 21:23Speaker 2: And the best out of three wins our trivia battle.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Here we go, Jessica. Question number one for you. Sierra
- 21:28Speaker 2: Miller is one of the competitors on the new season
- 21:31Speaker 2: of Dancing with the Stars. What reality show made her famous?
- 21:35Speaker 2: Is it A, Summer House, B, Too Hot to Handle,
- 21:39Speaker 2: or C, Love Island? Love Island.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Love Island.
- 21:43Speaker 2: She said it with confidence, too. But sadly, I've got
- 21:47Speaker 2: to buzz you on that. Summer House is where Sierra
- 21:50Speaker 2: Miller is.
- 21:50Speaker 1: From, so no score.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Okay, Megan, here we go. Taylor Swift surpassed what artist
- 21:56Speaker 3: as most awarded artist in MTV VMA's history after the
- 21:59Speaker 3: award show last night? Was it A, Beyonce, B, Madonna,
- 22:03Speaker 3: or C, Lady Gaga?
- 22:06Speaker 1: I would have to say Madonna.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Oops. No, I'm sorry. It was Beyonce.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Okay, so no score, 0-0. Question number two for you, Jessica.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Which of these college football teams gets the whole stadium shaking...
- 22:21Speaker 2: by playing jump around during every home game? Is it A, Tennessee, B, Utah,
- 22:28Speaker 2: or C, Wisconsin?
- 22:30Speaker 3: Wisconsin.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Was that a guess? Yes.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Good guess.
- 22:35Speaker 1: It paid off, Jessica. You're up 1-0. Oh, wow.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Yep. Okay, Megan. What sports organization generates about $ 3. 5 billion
- 22:44Speaker 3: a year in retail sales of licensed merchandise? Is it A,
- 22:48Speaker 3: the MLB, which is Major League Baseball, B, the NFL?
- 22:51Speaker 3: National Football League, or C, NHL, National Hockey League?
- 22:56Speaker 1: NFL.
- 22:57Speaker 3: You got it, yes.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Now we got a game. Okay, one-to-one.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Jessica, here we go. What is the name of the
- 23:05Speaker 2: paper company in the U.S. version of the TV show,
- 23:09Speaker 2: The Office? Is it A, Pape Merchants, B, Dunder Mifflin,
- 23:15Speaker 2: or C, Copy Company?
- 23:17Speaker 1: Oh, gosh. B, also a guess. B?
- 23:22Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Just confirming you said B. And you got it right.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Dunder Mifflin is correct. It is 2-1, Jessica.
- 23:30Speaker 3: All right, Megan, we need this for the tie. In
- 23:33Speaker 3: Breaking Bad, what subject does Walter White teach? Is it A, chemistry, B, physics,
- 23:38Speaker 3: or C, anatomy?
- 23:39Speaker 1: I want to say A.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Yes, you are correct, which brings us to a tie.
- 23:47Speaker 1: All tied up, 2-2. Yep.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Producer Kristen is going to write down a number between
- 23:52Speaker 2: 1 and 250. We don't know what she's writing down,
- 23:56Speaker 2: but whoever's closest is going to win the game, okay?
- 23:59Speaker 1: All right, she wrote down her number.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Jessica, give us a guess between 1 and 250.
- 24:05Speaker 3: 190.
- 24:06Speaker 1: 190. Megan? I would say 15.
- 24:10Speaker 3: 15?
- 24:12Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Christine, can you speak for Producer Kristen?
- 24:15Speaker 3: Producer Kristen has chosen the number 53. 53? which means
- 24:20Speaker 3: Megan is the winner because, Megan, you're the school teacher.
- 24:24Speaker 3: We had to do a little quick math, but you're
- 24:26Speaker 3: the winner.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Congratulations. I know that I won, but I'd love to
- 24:32Speaker 1: give my winnings to Jessica because she tried three times. Oh,
- 24:35Speaker 1: my goodness. I just feel like in a given mood.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I don't know if that worked out. You don't have
- 24:38Speaker 1: to do that. Nah, that's for you, girl. Teachers love everybody,
- 24:42Speaker 1: and we support everybody, and I love what you guys
- 24:44Speaker 1: do on the radio, so I'd be more than happy
- 24:45Speaker 1: to give it to her. So if you can give
- 24:46Speaker 1: it to her, that'd be great.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Okay. Alright, Megan forfeiting her prize. Moving on to Jessica. Megan,
- 24:53Speaker 3: thank you so much. Call us and play again.
- 24:55Speaker 1: That was very nice of you, Megan. I definitely will.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Thank you, Megan. That's so wonderful. You made my day.
- 25:00Speaker 1: That's what I like to do and made my day
- 25:03Speaker 1: for making yours.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Wow.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Thank you. That was beautiful.
- 25:07Speaker 2: That's a very emotional moment on the Covey and Christine
- 25:09Speaker 2: show on this Monday morning.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Thank you, Megan.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Wow.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Great way to start off the week. So, Megan, have
- 25:15Speaker 3: a wonderful day and Jessica, congratulations. Thanks to Megan. You
- 25:19Speaker 3: have won tickets to see In the Heights at New
- 25:22Speaker 3: York City Center.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Oh, awesome.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 25:25Speaker 3: You're welcome.
- 25:27Speaker 4: More Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I tell you what, Christine, the DVR and our remote
- 25:35Speaker 2: control in general was getting a workout last night.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a busy night.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I had football on. Yeah. Then I went to the
- 25:41Speaker 1: DVR and caught SNL. Because I didn't see it Saturday.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Jay Brunson hosting.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Jay Brunson hosting of the New York Knicks.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Very funny.
- 25:47Speaker 2: If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend at least
- 25:49Speaker 2: watching the monologue. The monologue was very funny. And they
- 25:52Speaker 2: had a couple of great skits as well. Then we
- 25:54Speaker 2: switched over to the MTV Video Music Awards. And that's
- 25:58Speaker 2: where we kind of like, you and I at the
- 26:00Speaker 2: same time started watching TV.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Yes, we matched up. So we could see Madonna kick
- 26:04Speaker 3: off the show.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Sabrina Carpenter and Charlie XCX. And then Madonna and Taylor,
- 26:10Speaker 3: by the way, were up for like the same amount
- 26:12Speaker 3: of awards, nine awards apiece or 11 awards apiece. Madonna
- 26:16Speaker 3: did take home Artist of the Year.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And this is her. I spent the last year and
- 26:21Speaker 1: a half finding myself, believing in myself, and really making
- 26:27Speaker 1: the music that I wanted to make. And to me,
- 26:31Speaker 1: that really is the definition of being an artist.
- 26:34Speaker 4: And my hope for all of you here tonight is
- 26:36Speaker 4: that you spend the next year or the next 10 years,
- 26:39Speaker 4: or the rest of your life, doing the same.
- 26:43Speaker 3: Finding yourself and believing in yourself.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Madonna.
- 26:46Speaker 3: Thank you, Madonna.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I tell you, she's timeless. Age has been good to her.
- 26:50Speaker 3: And Taylor also won big. It made her the artist
- 26:55Speaker 3: with the most VMA wins in history. She won 33.
- 26:59Speaker 3: She's won 33 awards to date. I mean, there's still
- 27:02Speaker 3: plenty of time. She got that special artist director award
- 27:07Speaker 3: the first time that anyone has received that award. She
- 27:10Speaker 3: also won Video of the Year, but here she is
- 27:12Speaker 3: accepting that special award for Artist Director. The main reason
- 27:15Speaker 3: why I love writing and directing music videos so much
- 27:18Speaker 3: is because you, the fans, make it so much fun.
- 27:21Speaker 3: You make it so rewarding because you actually care about
- 27:27Speaker 3: what we're making.
- 27:28Speaker 2: I know she's proud of all of her awards, but
- 27:30Speaker 2: there's got to be at least a couple of awards
- 27:32Speaker 2: that are in the basement and they're covered up by shoeboxes.
- 27:36Speaker 3: I think she has such a collection at this point.
- 27:38Speaker 1: It's amazing.
- 27:39Speaker 3: She's going to lose track. But yeah, and then they
- 27:42Speaker 3: premiered Patient Zero, the video for that.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Which will play coming up as we go commercial free
- 27:47Speaker 1: for three hours.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Very nice.
- 27:49Speaker 2: We're looking for caller 10 right now. 1-800-222-1067. What do
- 27:53Speaker 2: we have, Christine Nagy?
- 27:54Speaker 3: We have got a pair of tickets to see the
- 27:56Speaker 3: Michael Jackson History Show, Saturday, October 24th at Flagstar at
- 28:01Speaker 3: Westbury Music Fair. Tickets available now at Ticketmaster.com. Or you
- 28:05Speaker 3: can give us a call.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I like the way they wrote it.
- 28:08Speaker 2: It says Michael Jackson history, but H-I-S is in capital.
- 28:12Speaker 3: So like his story.
- 28:13Speaker 1: So I guess we're right either way, right?
- 28:15Speaker 3: His story.
- 28:16Speaker 1: His story.
- 28:17Speaker 3: History.
- 28:18Speaker 1: History. See for yourself. Call or attend 1-800-222-1067.
