- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Playfake, go to roll right, dumps it off into the
- 0:07Speaker 2: right flass to Michael Bumpers, who bounces off of one tackler,
- 0:10Speaker 2: gets inside the forty down of the thirty five yard line.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Powered by Seahawks dot Com.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Matt Pumpfak's looking at the god line. He throws it
- 0:17Speaker 2: into the end zone.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Touchdown. Say Hawks, it's Michael.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Thumps with a diving catching the end zone on ten
- 0:24Speaker 2: yard touchdown reception for Bumpers, and the kid out of
- 0:27Speaker 2: Washington State has found himself a place.
- 0:30Speaker 3: On this team.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Now here's your host, Nasa Choviie.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Welcome to another edition of Hawk Talk.
- 0:36Speaker 5: This time we're looking ahead as the Seahawks getting ready
- 0:39Speaker 5: to take on the Washington Commanders and try to wash
- 0:42Speaker 5: the taste out of our mouth from that game against
- 0:44Speaker 5: Baltimore Ravens this last Sunday, get back on the winning track.
- 0:47Speaker 4: So it's Wednesday. Pete Carroll's flipped the script.
- 0:50Speaker 5: It's competition Wednesday here at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
- 0:53Speaker 5: So let's flip it ahead to those Washington Commanders. What's
- 0:55Speaker 5: on Tap.
- 0:59Speaker 1: What's Up? Tap?
- 1:01Speaker 5: Washington is four and five third place in the nfcast.
- 1:05Speaker 5: They have wins over the Cardinals, Broncos, Falcons, and Patriots,
- 1:09Speaker 5: losses to the Bills, Eagles, Bears, Giants, and Eagles again.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Now bump after a two and oh start.
- 1:15Speaker 5: The Commanders, you know, they had a tough stretch for
- 1:17Speaker 5: they lost five of six games, including two actually competitive
- 1:20Speaker 5: games against the Eagles, and then they were blown out
- 1:24Speaker 5: at Buffalo and then pretty much blown.
- 1:26Speaker 4: Out against the Bears, which is kind of surprising.
- 1:29Speaker 5: But now they've kind of they stopped the bleeding, if
- 1:32Speaker 5: you will, trying to turn the tide well for them
- 1:34Speaker 5: as they beat the Patriots twenty to seventeen this past Sunday.
- 1:37Speaker 6: All right, yeah, and let's talk about that game. But
- 1:39Speaker 6: let's get right to the end of the game, right.
- 1:42Speaker 6: They were trailing twenty to seventeen. Late in the fourth
- 1:45Speaker 6: New England had a chance, actually trailing the Patriots inched
- 1:48Speaker 6: down the field and they converted on a fourth and four.
- 1:50Speaker 3: They kept their hopes alive. The vibes are good for
- 1:52Speaker 3: those guys.
- 1:53Speaker 6: But two plays later, Mac Jones did what Mac Jones
- 1:57Speaker 6: tends to do as of late trying to find Jujus
- 1:59Speaker 6: Smith shut, who's been a disappointment over there for the Patriots.
- 2:02Speaker 6: I bet I thought they was gonna get more than
- 2:04Speaker 6: what he's been given him trying to find juju. That
- 2:07Speaker 6: pass was intercepted by Martin and that pretty much sealed
- 2:09Speaker 6: the win for Washington. The Patriots have dropped to two
- 2:12Speaker 6: and seven for the first time in Bill Belichick's history
- 2:16Speaker 6: there as a head coach. That's going all the way
- 2:18Speaker 6: back to two thousand. They're now zero to five non
- 2:21Speaker 6: divisional games. The only team in the NFL with I
- 2:23Speaker 6: win outside their division. That's wild. And this was the
- 2:27Speaker 6: first win for the Commanders in New Orleans is nineteen
- 2:30Speaker 6: ninety six? Come on now, goodness gracious man and mac Jones,
- 2:35Speaker 6: he's still struggling. He went twenty four to forty four,
- 2:38Speaker 6: fifty four percent completion, one touchdown in one interception.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Stevenson the running back for New England.
- 2:43Speaker 6: Let all ball carriers for New Orleans with eighty seven
- 2:46Speaker 6: yards oh nine carrieres and one touchdown.
- 2:49Speaker 5: Yeah, man, ninety six like ninety six, Come on now,
- 2:53Speaker 5: I mean fresh Princess on the air Montel Jordan.
- 2:56Speaker 4: This is how we do it. Just came out. So
- 2:57Speaker 4: it's been a minute. It's been a minute. Man.
- 2:59Speaker 5: Well we'll get into some of these matchups in terms
- 3:01Speaker 5: of guys on the Commanders, but Brian Robinson Junior had
- 3:04Speaker 5: a good day. Terry McLaurin is that dude. So you
- 3:08Speaker 5: know a lot of people are looking at this game.
- 3:09Speaker 5: Bump is kind of a get right game, and I hope.
- 3:12Speaker 4: It is for the Seahawks.
- 3:13Speaker 5: Obviously, this team is not the Baltimore Ravens by any
- 3:15Speaker 5: stretch of the imagination, but they're still a good team.
- 3:18Speaker 5: It's a Nation Football League. They're four and five as
- 3:20Speaker 5: we get into this head to head matchup. Starting on
- 3:23Speaker 5: the offensive side of the ball, Seahawks are twentieth now
- 3:26Speaker 5: in the NFL, dropping a little bit, averaging three hundred
- 3:28Speaker 5: and eleven yards per game. Running the ball, they're twenty third,
- 3:31Speaker 5: averaging ninety seven yards per game, drop below the century mark.
- 3:35Speaker 4: There.
- 3:36Speaker 5: Pass offense there nineteenth in the league at two to
- 3:38Speaker 5: fourteen per game, and then points per game they are
- 3:41Speaker 5: seventeenth averaging twenty one points per game. On the other side,
- 3:44Speaker 5: the Commanders are seventeenth in total offense, averaging three hundred
- 3:47Speaker 5: and thirty two yards a game. Twenty six against the run,
- 3:50Speaker 5: averaging ninety yards per game. Ninth, when it comes to
- 3:53Speaker 5: the pass offense, two hundred and forty two yards per game,
- 3:56Speaker 5: So Sam Howise throwing that thing and then points per
- 3:58Speaker 5: game in the league averaging twenty one point two points
- 4:02Speaker 5: per game. So on paper, other than the pass offense,
- 4:05Speaker 5: these guys are pretty well evenly matched. Again, I think
- 4:08Speaker 5: I would take the Seahawks guys in terms of this
- 4:11Speaker 5: roster talent versus the Commanders.
- 4:13Speaker 4: But they're playing some good football. We got some good
- 4:15Speaker 4: dudes offensively.
- 4:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I've been on the other Side's talk about the defense.
- 4:18Speaker 6: The Commanders no longer had Chase Young or Monte Sweat.
- 4:21Speaker 6: They're twenty eighth overall, given up three to sixty eight
- 4:24Speaker 6: a game, the Hawks twenty fifth, giving up three fifty
- 4:27Speaker 6: four rush defense, The Commanders are twentieth. The Hawks are
- 4:31Speaker 6: twenty first. Pass defense, the Commanders are twenty seventh. The
- 4:34Speaker 6: Hawks are twentieth, given up towo thirty two. Then points allowed,
- 4:37Speaker 6: the Commanders are thirtieth in the Hawks are twenty second.
- 4:40Speaker 6: The Commander's given up two seventy two excuse me, twenty
- 4:43Speaker 6: seven point two, and the Hawks given up twenty one
- 4:46Speaker 6: point nine average time of possession. Hawks have it about
- 4:49Speaker 6: twenty six minutes. Commanders thirty. Last week really messed that
- 4:53Speaker 6: number up a bit because it felt like the Ravens
- 4:56Speaker 6: had the ball the whole game. But they both have
- 4:59Speaker 6: six inner sec options as well. On paper, man, this
- 5:02Speaker 6: is an evenly matched team. I mean, the numbers aren't
- 5:04Speaker 6: too far apart on off his end. Defense, Yeah, no
- 5:07Speaker 6: question about it.
- 5:07Speaker 5: And unfortunately for the Seahawks, all of these numbers kind
- 5:10Speaker 5: of took a hit after last week, especially bumper.
- 5:13Speaker 4: You talk about defense.
- 5:14Speaker 5: The Seahawks, we'll talk about this a little bit later,
- 5:16Speaker 5: one of the best rushing defenses in the league. Unfortunately,
- 5:19Speaker 5: when two ninety eight gets put up on you, those
- 5:21Speaker 5: numbers are inflate a little bit.
- 5:23Speaker 4: But you mentioned it.
- 5:24Speaker 5: These teams are very close together in terms of statistics.
- 5:28Speaker 5: Hopefully the Seahawks get the edge on the field. But
- 5:30Speaker 5: let's hop back in the way back machine.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Know your history, No, your history.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Commanders actually lead the all time series thirteen to nine,
- 5:40Speaker 5: the score six to thirteen in the regular season with
- 5:43Speaker 5: the Seahawks, though holding a three to zero advantage in
- 5:46Speaker 5: the postseason win. It counts the last time these two met.
- 5:49Speaker 5: The Seahawks lost a heartbreaker on Monday Night football back
- 5:51Speaker 5: in twenty twenty one, and this was a that was
- 5:55Speaker 5: just a tough stretch right now for the Seahawks at
- 5:57Speaker 5: twenty twenty one last time these two teams played, because
- 6:00Speaker 5: you had Russell Wilson who broke his thumb and then
- 6:03Speaker 5: he was rushing to get back. In the first couple
- 6:05Speaker 5: games he was back, he was not himself and this
- 6:07Speaker 5: offense did not look very good. And this was right
- 6:09Speaker 5: in the middle of that. It was a slow game
- 6:11Speaker 5: in the first half, as both teams went into halftime
- 6:14Speaker 5: tied at nine, and the final two points were actually
- 6:16Speaker 5: scored by Seahawks defensive end Rashem Green after an extra
- 6:20Speaker 5: point was blocked and he ran that back for a
- 6:23Speaker 5: two point conversion, which made the score nine to nine.
- 6:25Speaker 5: Hawks weren't able to get anything going in the second
- 6:27Speaker 5: half after Jade Mkishik had a ten year touchdown and
- 6:30Speaker 5: that made the score seventeen to nine. Russell Wilson tried
- 6:34Speaker 5: to find some of that end of the year magic,
- 6:36Speaker 5: taking the Seahawks on ten play ninety six yard drive
- 6:39Speaker 5: ending in a Freddie Swing touchdown that made the score
- 6:42Speaker 5: seventeen to fifteen. Unfortunately, Russell was picked off in the
- 6:46Speaker 5: end zone for the two point conversion, and then the
- 6:48Speaker 5: Seahawks would line up get the on side kick. Everyone's excited,
- 6:51Speaker 5: they have a chance. They are going to be almost
- 6:52Speaker 5: in field goal range. But unfortunately we had to learn
- 6:56Speaker 5: the rule book a little bit, all of us because
- 6:57Speaker 5: we didn't know what happened. I guess Nick blor Li
- 7:00Speaker 5: up in illegal formation.
- 7:01Speaker 4: You can't be inside the ash. They flagged us.
- 7:04Speaker 5: Obviously, we didn't get the second on side kick and
- 7:07Speaker 5: lost that game, and the Seahawks fell to three and eight,
- 7:10Speaker 5: and there are kind of postseason hopes were dashed at
- 7:13Speaker 5: that point. But that was a dark time. We're not
- 7:15Speaker 5: in that dark time anymore. The Seahawks are in a
- 7:18Speaker 5: much better place. But it was a rough go for
- 7:21Speaker 5: the NFC West last week. What's the word side.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Now? The Seahawks or the NFC West champs again?
- 7:32Speaker 4: What's the word in the West? On Hawk talk?
- 7:37Speaker 3: Here's what's going on in the NFC West.
- 7:39Speaker 6: The Seahawks and the San Francisco forty nine ers are
- 7:42Speaker 6: locked up at the top of the stament, both five
- 7:44Speaker 6: and three. The Rams are three and six and The
- 7:46Speaker 6: Cardinals are one in eight, but they got Kyler Murray
- 7:49Speaker 6: coming back this week, so we'll see how they look.
- 7:52Speaker 6: The forty nine Ers were on a bye last week.
- 7:54Speaker 6: They're going to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars this week.
- 7:56Speaker 6: But the Rams were active and now they matched up
- 7:58Speaker 6: with the Green Bay Packers. Now these are two teams
- 8:01Speaker 6: are on the struggle bus is trying to get things right.
- 8:03Speaker 6: The Packers have lost four straight. The Rams lost three
- 8:06Speaker 6: in a row, lost four of their last five. But
- 8:09Speaker 6: the Packers still got the job done. Twenty to three
- 8:12Speaker 6: was the score. But you can point a lot of
- 8:15Speaker 6: that to the Rams quarterback situation.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Man, they didn't have Matthew Stafford.
- 8:19Speaker 6: They did sign Carson Wentz this week we might see him,
- 8:24Speaker 6: but had our guy Brett Ripping. Is it ripping or riping?
- 8:27Speaker 6: I always get confused when I read that name. Pretty
- 8:30Speaker 6: sure it's ripping, ripping, Yeah, riping, ripping, ripping, All right,
- 8:34Speaker 6: that's a better quarterback name anyway. You better ripping Brett Ribbon.
- 8:38Speaker 6: He made the start. He was thirteen to twenty eight
- 8:40Speaker 6: four a buck thirty one interception and one fumble. The
- 8:43Speaker 6: Rams failed to reach the end zone and adding insult
- 8:46Speaker 6: to injury. The Packers started two seventh round picks that corner,
- 8:51Speaker 6: and they were still able to get it done. Cooper
- 8:53Speaker 6: and Pooka Nicole, one of the best one to two
- 8:55Speaker 6: combos in the league, were held to five receptions in
- 8:58Speaker 6: eighty yards combined. Whereas Freeman was a Rams leading rusher,
- 9:01Speaker 6: he had thirty two yards on twelve carris not a
- 9:03Speaker 6: great day, and he had Green Bay. Jordan Love played
- 9:06Speaker 6: all right, he was twenty twenty six eight and one touchdown.
- 9:08Speaker 6: And Adam Jones was a leading rusher. Yeah, send in
- 9:11Speaker 6: three yards for twenty carries. And now Carson Wentz and
- 9:15Speaker 6: the Rams. It feels like I've seen him in that
- 9:18Speaker 6: jersey already, but I know I haven't. I don't know why.
- 9:20Speaker 6: This just feels right to me for some reason, that
- 9:22Speaker 6: Carson Wentz is uh is playing on the Rams now.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Man.
- 9:28Speaker 5: When I saw that news come across the ticker, I
- 9:29Speaker 5: was kind of like, interesting, Okay, but hey, guess what
- 9:32Speaker 5: I mean.
- 9:32Speaker 4: You do what you gotta do. Stafford's out. But I
- 9:35Speaker 4: will say we'd be.
- 9:36Speaker 5: Remiss if we didn't show some love to Brett Rippon,
- 9:38Speaker 5: because Brett Rippen is actually from Washington. He went to
- 9:42Speaker 5: Shadle Park and Spokane Bump before going to Boise State.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Was the Washington State Player of the Year twenty fourteen.
- 9:49Speaker 5: Boise State, I said, Now he went to Wazoo too,
- 9:53Speaker 5: didn't he?
- 9:54Speaker 4: H Did he spurn there? Okay, a little bit.
- 9:57Speaker 5: I got you, I got you. I stand corrected. Wait, no,
- 10:00Speaker 5: three time all State. So shout out to Brett Rippins.
- 10:02Speaker 5: Sorry didn't work out there in La, Carson Wentz. So,
- 10:05Speaker 5: you think he's got anything left? Anything left in the tank.
- 10:08Speaker 3: I mean you can throw the ball, you know. I
- 10:11Speaker 3: don't think.
- 10:11Speaker 6: I think the arm is still there. It's the reps
- 10:13Speaker 6: is a decision making.
- 10:15Speaker 3: This could be.
- 10:15Speaker 6: Imagine how crazy this story could be if Wentz gets
- 10:19Speaker 6: to La and starts balling, finally finds a fountain of
- 10:22Speaker 6: youth and does this thing. Chances are it ain't gonna happen,
- 10:25Speaker 6: but it'd be a cool little story.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Well if that does happen.
- 10:28Speaker 5: I hopefully it happens after the Seahawks play the Rams
- 10:31Speaker 5: next week after this matchup. But if there was going
- 10:34Speaker 5: to be a coach to do it other than Kyle
- 10:36Speaker 5: Shanahan is probably Sean McVay.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, it is man.
- 10:40Speaker 6: You all that deception and motion and crossing patterns and
- 10:43Speaker 6: just look, throw it to the open guy.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Easy game, right, those open guys.
- 10:46Speaker 5: Hey, And when you get to throw the ball the
- 10:48Speaker 5: Cooper cup and pooking a cool I wouldn't mind that
- 10:50Speaker 5: job myself anyway. Let's let's flip it over to the
- 10:53Speaker 5: other game in the NFC West, the Cardinals taking on
- 10:55Speaker 5: the Browns, and this just rounded out an awful day
- 10:58Speaker 5: for the NFC West. Cardinal shut out twenty seven zero
- 11:01Speaker 5: to Cleveland Browns Joshua Dobbs, who's now doing his thing
- 11:04Speaker 5: in Minnesota.
- 11:05Speaker 4: So the Cardinals.
- 11:06Speaker 5: They turned to Clayton Tune, fifth round pick out of
- 11:09Speaker 5: the University of Houston, and man, did he have a
- 11:12Speaker 5: brutal day in this first start, eleven of twenty fifty
- 11:16Speaker 5: eight yards, two picks, sacked seven times.
- 11:21Speaker 4: And I think he had a fumble in there as well.
- 11:24Speaker 5: The Cardinals only ran five plays, five of their forty
- 11:27Speaker 5: eight plays on the Cleveland side of the field and
- 11:29Speaker 5: didn't get deeper than the forty four yard line. Arizona
- 11:32Speaker 5: had thirty one yards at halftime, and of the Cardinals
- 11:35Speaker 5: six possessions in the first half, it went punt, punt, punt, interception,
- 11:40Speaker 5: punt punt, So not a good day for them. Deshaun
- 11:43Speaker 5: Watson came back to the lineup he did okay, nineteen
- 11:45Speaker 5: to thirty two nineteen two touchdowns. Mark Cooper also had
- 11:48Speaker 5: a pretty good day. Arizona now though is lost six
- 11:51Speaker 5: straight in one in eight.
- 11:53Speaker 4: On the year.
- 11:53Speaker 5: I know you mentioned Kyler Murray coming back, but things
- 11:56Speaker 5: were not good down there in the desert. But the
- 11:59Speaker 5: NFC West last Sunday O and three lost by combined
- 12:03Speaker 5: score bump of eighty four to two six.
- 12:06Speaker 6: I damn in this, gracious, hey, and James Connor might
- 12:09Speaker 6: be back too, so you know, maybe that'll help a
- 12:11Speaker 6: Z a little bit. But U NFC West struggle last week? Goodness, gracious, Yeah.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Let's hope. I mean, I don't mind if the other
- 12:18Speaker 4: team struggle.
- 12:18Speaker 5: As long as the Seahawks are neither part of a
- 12:20Speaker 5: graphic like that or a stat like that next week,
- 12:22Speaker 5: I'll be straight.
- 12:23Speaker 4: But let's get back to the commanders.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Man up, this, man.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Man up.
- 12:34Speaker 5: On Hawk Talk, we usually start with the quarterbacks, and
- 12:38Speaker 5: nothing's gonna be different today.
- 12:39Speaker 4: We're starting with Sam Howell.
- 12:41Speaker 5: Take it on the Seahawks defense and For those who
- 12:44Speaker 5: don't know a lot about Sam Howe, I'll learn you
- 12:46Speaker 5: up a little bit here. Sam Howells in his first
- 12:48Speaker 5: year as a starter for the Commanders. He was drafted
- 12:50Speaker 5: in the fifth round in twenty twenty two, although hearing
- 12:54Speaker 5: from different sources in the Commander's front office. Apparently some
- 12:56Speaker 5: people said they would have targeted him in the second
- 12:58Speaker 5: or third round had they not traded for Carson Wentz
- 13:00Speaker 5: that offseason. He was a three year starter at North Carolina,
- 13:04Speaker 5: and his junior season he went nuts. He had throw
- 13:07Speaker 5: over three thousand yards twenty four touchdowns allfu ran for
- 13:10Speaker 5: eight hundred and twenty eight yards and eleven touchdowns. Finished
- 13:13Speaker 5: his college career with really gotty ridiculous stats ten thousand yards,
- 13:17Speaker 5: one hundred nine touchdowns. But when he started last year,
- 13:20Speaker 5: he was the number three quarterback behind Wentz and Taylor Heinike.
- 13:24Speaker 5: Then Wentz broke his finger, Howe got elevated to the
- 13:27Speaker 5: backup when Taylor Heineke came into the game.
- 13:30Speaker 4: He stayed that way till week fifteen.
- 13:32Speaker 5: Then Washington got eliminated from the playoffs a couple of
- 13:35Speaker 5: weeks later, and then you know, Ron Rivera and those
- 13:38Speaker 5: guys will want to see what they had with Sam Howe,
- 13:40Speaker 5: they put him in the lineup. They get a win
- 13:42Speaker 5: over the Cowboys twenty six to six. He played well
- 13:45Speaker 5: eleven of nineteen, one hundred and sixty nine yards, one touchdown,
- 13:48Speaker 5: one pick, also ran for a score. So then he
- 13:51Speaker 5: fast forward the offseason. Heinike signs with the Falcons, Carson
- 13:54Speaker 5: Wentz gets cut. Then Hal gets into a battle with
- 13:57Speaker 5: Jacoby Brissett in the preseason. He wins that battle. It's
- 14:00Speaker 5: actually playing some pretty good football. Bump last two games
- 14:03Speaker 5: he's gone over three hundred yards. In a tough loss
- 14:05Speaker 5: to Philly, he had three hundred ninety seven yards, four
- 14:08Speaker 5: touchdowns and one pick. So on the year, he leads
- 14:11Speaker 5: the National Football League in passing yards at two thousand
- 14:14Speaker 5: and four hundred and seventy one. He's got fourteen touchdowns
- 14:17Speaker 5: and nine interceptions. Also a little lusive on the ground
- 14:20Speaker 5: twenty nine carries one hundred and fifty seven yards in
- 14:23Speaker 5: a touchdown, So he leads second in the league in passing,
- 14:27Speaker 5: but also leads the league in interceptions. And it's been
- 14:30Speaker 5: sacked bumped forty four times this year.
- 14:34Speaker 6: Doug dang forty four the things what was fifty something
- 14:39Speaker 6: was was Russell's high last year. He almost there already
- 14:43Speaker 6: they got to protect this dude, and watching film he
- 14:45Speaker 6: could play at first. All was when I heard the
- 14:48Speaker 6: organization say this is our guy for the future. I'm aye,
- 14:50Speaker 6: we'll see. I turn on the film and I go,
- 14:53Speaker 6: second year guy. The way they use him, I could
- 14:56Speaker 6: see him develop and I think he's going to be
- 14:59Speaker 6: the minimal standard of the quarterback can do because nowadays,
- 15:01Speaker 6: as a quarterback you got to be able to run
- 15:03Speaker 6: even just a little bit. Now that's what what how
- 15:05Speaker 6: it can do? He run more than just a little bit.
- 15:07Speaker 6: But I'm looking at him and I go, he might
- 15:09Speaker 6: be okay in this league. But let's not hope he
- 15:12Speaker 6: gets it right, even even more right this week.
- 15:14Speaker 3: But it ain't gonna be easy.
- 15:16Speaker 6: I think people see Commanders and see him Howe and
- 15:18Speaker 6: think that it's just going to be a wash. But nah,
- 15:21Speaker 6: I don't think. So let's talk about our quarterback. Though
- 15:24Speaker 6: we got Geno smith Man. It was a tough one
- 15:27Speaker 6: against the Ravens.
- 15:28Speaker 3: For sure. He was under pressure a lot.
- 15:30Speaker 6: It was pressured on forty nine percent of the passes
- 15:32Speaker 6: that he threw, which is his second highest of the year.
- 15:35Speaker 6: I believe he finished thirteen to twenty eight to fifty seven,
- 15:38Speaker 6: zero touchdowns, one interception.
- 15:40Speaker 3: And a fumble.
- 15:41Speaker 6: We got to knock out those those turnovers man, as
- 15:46Speaker 6: he has following previous losses. Quarterback Geno Smith was quick
- 15:48Speaker 6: to say, look, it's all on me. It's all on me,
- 15:51Speaker 6: and that's all like about Geno. Man, it's that he's
- 15:52Speaker 6: gonna save the right things. But then Carol comes back
- 15:55Speaker 6: and says, look, I don't think it's.
- 15:56Speaker 3: All on Gino.
- 15:58Speaker 6: It's about our football team, not answering the here we
- 16:01Speaker 6: cann't get it done, which is true. It was not
- 16:03Speaker 6: just Gino. Office in line struggled with the Blitz. Receivers
- 16:06Speaker 6: weren't getting it open. You know, there are some things
- 16:08Speaker 6: that everybody could do. Play callin could have been a
- 16:10Speaker 6: bit different. It's a team sports, so I love that Gino.
- 16:13Speaker 6: I mean, excuse me. Carol came back and said, look, man,
- 16:15Speaker 6: it's not on him. He says, we struggled across the
- 16:18Speaker 6: board on offense. Everybody has some difficulty in this game.
- 16:21Speaker 6: It just added up to where the quarterback is in
- 16:23Speaker 6: the middle of that as well.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Curl sip and.
- 16:26Speaker 6: The quarterback is going to get the ball to the blade, right.
- 16:28Speaker 6: He touched the football every single play. So I think
- 16:30Speaker 6: Geno understands that. Carol understands that he comes out and says, look,
- 16:34Speaker 6: get off my boy. He gonna be okay, all right.
- 16:36Speaker 6: So the reason why people all up in arms about
- 16:39Speaker 6: Geno's because last year they see a underdog hit the
- 16:43Speaker 6: seam and perform at a high level. So at this
- 16:45Speaker 6: time last year, he had nineteen hundred yards, thirteen touchdowns,
- 16:48Speaker 6: three interceptions, and it's been sacked nineteen times. So far
- 16:51Speaker 6: this year he's about one hundred and twenty off of
- 16:53Speaker 6: that pace, with yards are eighteen hundred, nine touchdowns instead
- 16:56Speaker 6: of thirteen, and seven interceptions instead of three, eighteen sacks
- 17:00Speaker 6: instead of one. So obviously there are some some differences there.
- 17:05Speaker 6: But I also think that he's dealing with an offensive
- 17:07Speaker 6: line that hasn't been healthy and you played a hot team.
- 17:10Speaker 6: Like if you win this game, or even if you
- 17:12Speaker 6: lose this game and you just put up a fight,
- 17:14Speaker 6: I think people feel different about Geno. But people are
- 17:17Speaker 6: quick to one replace dudes, and I don't understand that
- 17:19Speaker 6: because this is the guy who needs twenty six completions
- 17:21Speaker 6: to pass. Kidtinga for six place on Sales all time
- 17:23Speaker 6: completion list. He needs six touchdown passes to pass Kidnam
- 17:27Speaker 6: on fifth place when it comes to all time touchdowns list.
- 17:30Speaker 3: This year, he's completing sixty five percent of his passes.
- 17:32Speaker 6: I'm just saying, not making excuses, but you gotta people
- 17:36Speaker 6: got to realize that the neck bonus connected.
- 17:39Speaker 2: To the.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Bone, the cranium.
- 17:43Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 17:43Speaker 6: You know what I'm getting here, man, Like, everything's connected.
- 17:46Speaker 6: It's not just Geno. Can he play better for Shop?
- 17:49Speaker 6: He can play better, but uh, come on, man, help
- 17:51Speaker 6: him out. I mean, when Pete talked this week, he
- 17:54Speaker 6: couldn't even believe it. In the postgame press confidences, people
- 17:57Speaker 6: are like, wait, are you alluding that there's a quarterback
- 17:59Speaker 6: controversy here?
- 18:00Speaker 5: What what are you talking about? And I feel the
- 18:02Speaker 5: same way. Listen, would you like some of the turnovers back?
- 18:05Speaker 5: Of course, is a quarterback always going to get more
- 18:07Speaker 5: blame than they deserve and more accredited times?
- 18:09Speaker 4: Yes?
- 18:10Speaker 5: Yeah, but Gino literally set every quarterback record in this
- 18:15Speaker 5: franchise last year. People forget that all the great years
- 18:18Speaker 5: Russell had, Gino had the best statistical season a quarterback
- 18:22Speaker 5: has ever had here last year. And I mean again,
- 18:26Speaker 5: I think people just kind of forget, and it's important.
- 18:28Speaker 5: It's context. You face the top two defenses in the
- 18:31Speaker 5: NFL back to back weeks. I mean, that's part of
- 18:34Speaker 5: the story. Can the Seahawks play better, of course, but
- 18:37Speaker 5: I think people needed and that's not even that's not
- 18:39Speaker 5: a slight a Drew Lock either. Drew Lock can play
- 18:41Speaker 5: as well. But this is Gino's team. He's proven that
- 18:44Speaker 5: it's a little bit of a rough patch, but he'll
- 18:45Speaker 5: be all right.
- 18:46Speaker 6: And then the same, playoff teams don't change quarterbacks midseason,
- 18:50Speaker 6: don't You don't do that. This is a playoff team, right,
- 18:53Speaker 6: So they took an l like relaxed folks in this grace,
- 18:56Speaker 6: Come on, man.
- 18:56Speaker 5: And also we'll see what happens this week. And I
- 19:00Speaker 5: think Gina's gonna play a lot better. When you look
- 19:01Speaker 5: at the defense, we kind of broke it down earlier.
- 19:03Speaker 5: Their twenty eighth in total defense, twenty seventh against the pass,
- 19:06Speaker 5: thirtieth in points allowed, in their twelfth in sacks, and
- 19:09Speaker 5: they don't have their top two dudes on defense. There's
- 19:11Speaker 5: no Chase Young, there's no Montes Sweat. Those boys are
- 19:14Speaker 5: out of there. So I'm thinking it's gonna be a
- 19:16Speaker 5: much better favorable matchup for the Seahawks. So I'm looking
- 19:19Speaker 5: forward to that. Gino's gonna bounce back. Come on, baby, everyone, chill, Seattle,
- 19:23Speaker 5: get behind your man. Number seven is the guy for
- 19:26Speaker 5: us right now. Look at another matchup. Scary Terry they
- 19:31Speaker 5: call him, I guess I don't know. Terry McLaurin. Take
- 19:34Speaker 5: it on the Seahawks secondary and he's he's an elite receiver.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Bump.
- 19:38Speaker 4: He got paid.
- 19:39Speaker 5: I believe it was going into last season off his
- 19:42Speaker 5: rookie deal. He's had three straight one thousand yard seasons,
- 19:45Speaker 5: looking to become the first Commanders player to ever have
- 19:47Speaker 5: four consecutive one thousand yard seasons, one hundred and fifty
- 19:50Speaker 5: one yards away from five thousand in his career. He
- 19:53Speaker 5: was All Rookie in twenty nineteen and was finally made
- 19:56Speaker 5: the Pro Bowl last season. And this is what's really impressive, Bump.
- 19:59Speaker 5: I looked at it and I'm just like, wow, he
- 20:02Speaker 5: Here are all the different starting quarterbacks that have thrown
- 20:04Speaker 5: him a ball since he's been in Washington. Case Keenum,
- 20:08Speaker 5: Dwayne Haskins, rp Alex Smith, Taylor Heinek, Kyle Allen, Colt McCoy,
- 20:13Speaker 5: Garrett Gilbert, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Carson Wentz, Sam Howell, and you're.
- 20:18Speaker 6: The pro bols on that list. Carson Wentz was a
- 20:21Speaker 6: pro bowler once, right, not in Washington once. Not in Washington.
- 20:26Speaker 5: Yeah, not in Washington when he was Sam fran right,
- 20:30Speaker 5: So I mean yeah, So the fact that he's still
- 20:33Speaker 5: put up numbers with all those different characters throwing in
- 20:35Speaker 5: the football is really just, you know, a testament to him.
- 20:38Speaker 5: And he's also super durable. He's only missed three games
- 20:41Speaker 5: in five years. He's got five hundred and sixty eight yards,
- 20:43Speaker 5: two touchdowns, nine catches over twenty plus yards. So Seahawk Secondary,
- 20:48Speaker 5: they're gonna they're gonna have to work cut.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Out for a.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Yeah. Man, he's a baller and he's got some help too.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Man.
- 20:54Speaker 6: I really like dots and two out of the kid
- 20:57Speaker 6: out of Penn State. He has thirty four receptions for
- 20:58Speaker 6: three sixty and three, Teddy Curtis Samuels having a decent season,
- 21:02Speaker 6: two thirty five reception three thirty three and two. And
- 21:05Speaker 6: then Logan Thomas, they excuse me, the tight end has
- 21:08Speaker 6: thirty three receptions for three eleven and three touchdowns. So yeah, Man,
- 21:12Speaker 6: Devin with aspoon must go. He's six in the NFL.
- 21:14Speaker 6: When it comes to pass the defendeds bump that thing
- 21:16Speaker 6: up and you can't sleep on these dudes.
- 21:19Speaker 3: But I think a fan favorite.
- 21:22Speaker 6: Brian Robinson Junior, the running back for the Commanders, is
- 21:26Speaker 6: somebody you should know if you don't if you don't
- 21:29Speaker 6: know his story man. At the end of twenty twenty
- 21:31Speaker 6: two preseason, he was shot multiple times during an attempted
- 21:35Speaker 6: carjacking gone bad. After surgery, Robinson was back on the
- 21:38Speaker 6: field six weeks later, and during pregame introductions he was
- 21:42Speaker 6: announced to fifty cents many amen, And if you don't know,
- 21:47Speaker 6: go listen to that song. Imagine being shot multiple times
- 21:51Speaker 6: and coming back to that song running out the tunnel,
- 21:53Speaker 6: Dennis Gracious, it'll give you chills all day. On this year,
- 21:57Speaker 6: he's got one hundred and thirteen carriers for four to
- 21:59Speaker 6: forty seven touchdowns, fourteen receptions for one hundred and thirty
- 22:02Speaker 6: seven yards two touchdowns. His seven total touchdowns is the
- 22:06Speaker 6: most on the team now. Defensively, the Seahawks were among
- 22:10Speaker 6: the league's best when it comes to stop and the run.
- 22:12Speaker 6: Going into the Ravens game, the Hawks were only allowing
- 22:14Speaker 6: three point five to seven per carry, was third in
- 22:18Speaker 6: the NFL, but the Seahawks allowed two ninety eight against
- 22:21Speaker 6: the Ravens. Thank you Ravens for taking the knee towards
- 22:23Speaker 6: the end of the game, or you have three hundred
- 22:25Speaker 6: up there. So now they've dropped to nineteen four point
- 22:28Speaker 6: two per carry and then their twenty first NFL allowing
- 22:31Speaker 6: one hundred and twenty two yards per game on the ground.
- 22:33Speaker 6: So it's time to get back to what you do. Robinson.
- 22:37Speaker 6: Great story. I'm glad you're with this playing football, but
- 22:40Speaker 6: it's trying to lock him down.
- 22:42Speaker 5: Oh, no question about it. I love that story. Like
- 22:44Speaker 5: Bump said, look it up, Google it. It's a great
- 22:46Speaker 5: story and just to be in that moment. So props
- 22:49Speaker 5: up to him. But again not this week, Bump, because man,
- 22:53Speaker 5: the Seahawks were too good at stopping the run. And
- 22:55Speaker 5: maybe you can call me home or I'm making excuses, whatnot.
- 22:58Speaker 5: You're not going to play an offense that has Lamar
- 23:00Speaker 5: Jackson a quarterback. Everything the Seahawks saw last week you're
- 23:03Speaker 5: not gonna see this week. The defense played well up
- 23:05Speaker 5: until about midway through the third quarter before the wheels
- 23:08Speaker 5: fell off and they got a lot of that yarded
- 23:09Speaker 5: so they're gonna bounce back. But right now we're gonna
- 23:12Speaker 5: tell you exactly how they're gonna get this win.
- 23:14Speaker 2: At the victory after forty five waits for the snat,
- 23:20Speaker 2: Michael Dixon puts it down.
- 23:21Speaker 3: That kick is away.
- 23:22Speaker 4: If that kick is gone, good, stay off.
- 23:25Speaker 1: When it's gone, it's a pass to victory. On Hawk Talk.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Leave it in the past. Bump is gone, and it's gone.
- 23:33Speaker 5: There's one thing Pete Carroll does is he turns the page.
- 23:35Speaker 5: Once it's Wednesday. Everyone tells the truth.
- 23:37Speaker 4: On Monday.
- 23:38Speaker 5: People can take an off day and now you're into
- 23:40Speaker 5: the next week. So what happened against the Ravens is
- 23:42Speaker 5: completely gone. Leave it there and just change it up.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Man.
- 23:45Speaker 5: Start fast on offense and stay on the field. Six
- 23:48Speaker 5: first downs one to twelve on first down or excuse me,
- 23:51Speaker 5: on third downs is not gonna be enough for this team.
- 23:55Speaker 5: And Gino needs some time, Bump, he needs some time.
- 23:57Speaker 5: He was under pressure. He's been under pressure for a
- 23:58Speaker 5: couple of weeks. Now just do what you guys do.
- 24:01Speaker 5: Give them some time and if you can stay on
- 24:03Speaker 5: the field, extend possessions. Even if it's a field position game.
- 24:06Speaker 5: You just can't be three and out, three and out,
- 24:08Speaker 5: three and out.
- 24:09Speaker 6: Yeah, man and receivers. You saw man defense against the
- 24:12Speaker 6: Cleveland Browns. You saw some man against the Ravens. You
- 24:15Speaker 6: gotta shake loose, get open, let's get it, and then
- 24:19Speaker 6: be able to run the football. The Hawks had fifteen
- 24:21Speaker 6: carries for twenty eight yards. I don't like those numbers.
- 24:25Speaker 6: And then, most importantly, take care of the football. The
- 24:28Speaker 6: last couple of weeks, we've seen a lot of turnovers.
- 24:31Speaker 6: You don't want to give these guys hope when the
- 24:34Speaker 6: Commander's come into town.
- 24:36Speaker 4: No question about it.
- 24:37Speaker 5: Man, And we're good at home this year, Bump, And
- 24:40Speaker 5: that's a weird thing to have to proclaim out loud.
- 24:42Speaker 5: It's just been there's been a little bit of a
- 24:44Speaker 5: trend where Seahawks hadn't won as many games at Loominfield
- 24:47Speaker 5: as they had in yours pass. They're bond right now
- 24:49Speaker 5: this year. They're three to one in twenty twenty three,
- 24:51Speaker 5: so let's keep that ruin. This should be a good
- 24:53Speaker 5: right game for the Seahawks. I believe it can be.
- 24:55Speaker 5: Hopefully we'll be talking to you next Monday talking about
- 24:58Speaker 5: a Seahawks victory. Reminder, you can catch us everywhere Seahawks
- 25:01Speaker 5: dot com, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, serix, emon more, and if
- 25:04Speaker 5: you're listening on Apple podcasts, don't forget sat US. Five
- 25:07Speaker 5: stars would be greatly appreciated. He's Michael Bumbas. I'm Nasatoby,
- 25:11Speaker 5: getting you ready for the Seahawks taking on the Washington
- 25:13Speaker 5: Commanders this Sunday at Loominfield.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Again.
- 25:17Speaker 4: We'll be with you next week, hopefully talking about a
- 25:19Speaker 4: Seahawks win.
