- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Well, hello everyone, and welcome to the podcast for this week, The Joy Jolt podcast.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: My name is Natalie Ledwell,
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: and I am still flying solo while Susie and her husband are having fun in Croatia
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: and having a fabulous time.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: But I am being joined this week by my very good friend, Kelly Sullivan-Wallman.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Hello, Kelly.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: How are you, darling?
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Hello, Natalie.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: It's so fun to be with you and do this Substack Live.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: Well, this is your first one, right?
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: No, it's my first one as a guest.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: I've done, I've dabbled a little on my own, but it's kind of always very messy.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: So I'm learning from you.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Well, we have more joy and fun when we do it together.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: So yes, that's true.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: And my motto has been bless the mess,
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: you know, and it's, and it's all PS and it's always a mess.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: There's varying degrees, I think.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Yes, exactly.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: So you will find Kelly here on Substack as well.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: So Kelly Sullivan Walden is where you'll find her.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: She is a multiple author, bestselling author.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And Druma Festing is her brand.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: It's her modality.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: It's her way of helping us to connect with our joy and to create life that The way
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: that we would like it, but through the messages and the power of our dreams.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: So just walk us through how that works.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Well, first of all, I just,
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: I loved that you said messages of dreams and I just thought the messiness of
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: the messages.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: I'm just, I'm kind of in the mess of it all.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: And,
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: and dream work is really about wordplay playing Playing with the words and looking
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: at them and taking a pause.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: There's something about dream work that has us think symbolically
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: and has us not take things so literally.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: And maybe one way of being in the problem is being in the concreteness of things.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Being in the black and whiteness of things and the tangibility of things.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I call it the minutia.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: You're in the weeds, in the minutia.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Yes, in the thick of thin things.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: But the moment we think symbolically, even playing with the words or thinking...
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, a window.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: When a door closes, a window opens.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Even just thinking symbolically,
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: we literally are shifting from our limbic brain,
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: which is like our caveman survival brain,
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: to our prefrontal cortex,
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: which is much more creative and much more able to think in loftier,
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: more visionary ways.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: There's more possibilities in that.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: So I like to It's become my practice.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: I didn't know it was going to become my practice,
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: but it has to think about a dream and carry at least one from the night before
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: into my life.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: If my dog wakes me up,
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: if a siren wakes me up,
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: then I grab a dream from another day and I just kind of carry it around
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: with me like it's my invisibility cloak.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: And I let that dream inform me and guide me like the dream I'm carrying
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: with me today is a dream.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: That I had actually a while ago, but it's been coming back to me lately.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: And it's like it wants to be known.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: And it's a dream where my I call it the mermaid throne.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: There was a book out called The Mermaid Chair.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: But in my dream,
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: there was this lavish,
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: beautiful seaweed,
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: jewel encrusted throne at the bottom of the ocean with this very mossy, mushy seat.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: I can still feel the smush of like sitting on it.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: And the magic of sitting in this throne,
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: I don't need to give you the whole context of the story around it.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: That was the most special part of the dream.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: But sitting in that throne on the bottom of the ocean floor, I could breathe down there.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: And all the troubles were like little waves that were at the top of the ocean
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: that just kind of fluttered above me.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: I didn't need to concern myself with those.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: There was this depth,
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: treasures at the bottom,
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: the whales, the sea creatures, and this peace that passes human understanding.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: Today, it's a hot day in Southern California, so I'm thinking very watery today.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: That dream is making me feel cool and it's bringing me to a place of,
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: it might not sound like a joy lives at the bottom of the ocean floor,
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: but there's for sure a lack of drama down there.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: And in the lack of drama, there's an openness to the joy, to the jewels.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: So that's a long-winded way of answering your question.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: So, all right.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: So I have, I mean,
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: I have so many questions because for example,
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: you know, because I think that dreams don't always seem to make sense or linear.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Do they always mean something or is it just sometimes sort of floating around
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: in your subconscious?
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: And it's, it depends on the lens we're looking at them through.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, if we,
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: for example,
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: I lived in Japan,
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: I lived in France,
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: I lived in In Spain and those countries, I didn't know the language of those places.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: So I could have easily said, oh, those people aren't saying anything.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're just going, you know, but then you learn the language a little bit.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: You're like, oh my God, they're actually saying something.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: These people are having conversations.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: And so it's dreams speak a language.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: And I would dare say it's our first language.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: It's our most primal language and it's the language that is universal.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: It's the language that was written on the cave walls.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: So every dream is saying something.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Some dreams are saying more than others.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: Some dreams are certainly bigger than others.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: But I think every single dream has wisdom, is coded in wisdom, dripping in wisdom.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: And so what happens if you're having these dreams that That you feel are a little angsty.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: I get a lot of those and they're exhausting.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: I'm like, ugh.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Well,
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: think about how annoying it is to have an indicator light come up on your dashboard
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: when you're driving that says, check your oil or the tire pressures.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: It's like, ugh, that's annoying.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: I've got plans.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: I'm doing things.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: But wouldn't you rather have that indicator light come on than to not have it?
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: It's a lot less...
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: Trouble to pull over to the side of the road,
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: go to the Pet Boys or wherever you go to check your engine or check whatever and
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: then say, oh, wow, I needed a little oil or oh, I needed some water.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, I needed some.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: It's just like that.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, having an angsty dream is saying, let's course correct, honey.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Let's let's work something out internally so that we don't have to do it externally.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I'm actually working on a book I've been threatening to work on for a long time.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: And the working title right now is The Lazy Girl's Guide to Spirituality.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: And I think dream work is next to laziness, which is next to godliness.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: It's lazy to do dream work because we get so much more done in an efficient way.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: We don't have to be like Sisyphus and push boulders up hills all day long.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: So let's imagine we have an angsty dream where we're running,
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: we're being chased,
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: we're fighting with somebody and But if we take it seriously and we go, wow,
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: maybe I need to send a note to that person or maybe I need
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: to do some forgiveness work or maybe I do need to check my bank balance
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: or maybe I need to do something and you do it and things are smoother.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's a much smoother way of things going rather than,
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: oh, my God, my lights got turned off because I didn't pay attention to it.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: To the wisdom of that dream that was doing something very wise and helpful.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: But we often will say, uh, it was just a dream or that's so annoying.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: It's just, it's as practical as an indicator light on your dashboard.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Cause I was, you know, I have just came through a very stressful time.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: And, uh, but my dreams are stressful as well.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, okay, I need a rest at night.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: My reality is bad enough as it is.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Like, Okay.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about that for a second.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: So I was on the news for a while talking about sleep working dreams
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: that are just like this, where people are saying, I'm working hard all day long.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: And then all night long, I am still working.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: I need a break.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: So there's a solution to that.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: And here's a very simple, practical solution.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: Sometime before you go to bed, do a little journaling.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: And in your journaling,
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: it could just be stream of consciousness journaling,
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: but if you want to get down to it,
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: you say, what's the list of the things I know I need to do tomorrow?
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: So you kind of give yourself the list.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: So your subconscious mind sees that you don't have to think about that when you go
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: to sleep tonight.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: That's like, you've already handled that.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: You already know you need to call the plumber.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: You already know that you need to call that new employee and have that conversation.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: You already know that consciously.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: So your dreams are like, oh, She got the message.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: We can do other things in the dream.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: We don't have to just focus on that.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: And here's the other little trick.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Read something before you go to sleep that takes your brain somewhere else other
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: than the practical.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: It could be a lovely spiritual book like The Alchemist or any new spiritual book.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: It could be Dreamafesting, for example.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: That is something that gives you a sense of like, oh, I want a dream now.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: One last thing.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: One last thing.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: Also, you can do a gratitude list of 10 quick things that you're grateful for.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: Gratitude,
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: going to sleep inside a grateful space brings you into a whole different series
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: of dreams.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: There's been all kinds of studies and research on that.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Okay, back to that.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because that was one of my questions.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: It's going to go, can we,
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: if we're trying to get ourselves back to joy and to be in that frequency as often
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: as possible, can we influence our dreams to be able to create them?
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: So it's interesting.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: I just did a workshop with my wonderful friend in this TV show I'm working on,
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Anthony Pietro Monaco.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: It's a show about past lives.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: So I'm a hypnotherapist.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: So I do.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: So dream work, past life regression, they all kind of weave together.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: But I was talking about dreamafesting and how dreams,
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: everybody was giving me what they thought dreams meant.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: And basically it's all very spiritual and kind of otherworldly.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: And then manifesting,
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: which is the other part of dreamafesting,
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: we talk about how it also can be magical, but it sometimes is of the ego.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: It's like, I want the house.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: I want the car.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: I want the boyfriend.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: I want the status.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: I want these things.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: And they're sort of in opposition to that part of us,
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: that spiritual part of us that doesn't give a crap.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: About those things.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: It's like, I just want you to grow and glow and wake up to your magnificence.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: So sometimes dreams and manifesting can seem opposed to each other.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: However, there's a place where they intersect, where they can actually come together.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: So if you think about what you want, and so let's do this.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Do you want to be a guinea pig?
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Do you mind?
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Yes, I would love to.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: So just think of one thing that you want to have more of in your life on
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: the very human, physical level.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: Plane, even on the ego plane, that's fine.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: The ego is not a bad word in my world.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: So give me one thing that you'd like the genie, I'm the genie, ding, I will bring to you today.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: Well, I'd like more money.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: So do I need a specific amount?
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: No, not for this necessarily.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: So go ahead, but think about, but you can think about what that number is.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: So you got it?
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: So I want you to step into your magic nation, that world between worlds.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: And I want you to imagine I am a genie and poof, boom, your wish has come true right now.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Right now.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Take a breath.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: And notice, ooh, so for whoever's watching, just look at her.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Look at the look on Natalie's face.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: There's like almost like.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Ah, there's this peacefulness that I'm witnessing and like this does feel like a bubble of joy.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: But what are you feeling?
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: What's different?
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: I'm feeling like grounded confidence.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: I'm feeling security.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: I'm feeling freedom because I have choice.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: And I'm feeling excited because of the choices I can make now.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: If I've got that number.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: So here's the interesting thing that you just proved for all of us is
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: that those feelings,
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: that grounded confidence,
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: that freedom of choice,
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: you just tapped into it so fully,
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: so beautifully without necessarily checking your bank account,
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: without checking to see if anything changed, like it was already here.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: The whole time, that feeling.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: And you dipped into it so easily.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: And you got there by imagining having that thing that you wanted.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: So that thing that you want is very important.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: So here's how you dream a fast.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: I talk about the ego goal and the soul goal.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: You just demonstrated them both.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: The ego goal is the money and the amount.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: The soul goal is that grounded confidence, freedom.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: So you think about both of those right on the edge of sleep, right before you go to sleep.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: You start with the low-hanging fruit of the ego goal because that's
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: the easiest getting in place.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: And then you say, wow, if I had that already.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: And you let yourself be that fuzzy bottle of champagne.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: Let yourself feel that.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: And then it's as if you're handing that feeling tone over to your dreams and saying,
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: Show me how I can have more of this.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: And if it happens to be related to the money, then so be it.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: But maybe there's another way.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Maybe there's a much better way.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: But the feeling is king or queen.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: So there's a C.S.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: Lewis quote that kind of speaks to this.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: And he said,
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Aim at heaven, you get earth thrown in.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Aim at earth.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: You get neither.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: Wait, wait, repeat that again.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: Aim at heaven.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: You get earth thrown in.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: Aim at earth.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: You get neither.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: So in other words,
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: if we're simply focused on getting the thing we want,
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: then often, even if we get it for a moment, We're in hell.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: We're not full of that joy,
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: that grounded confidence,
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: because there's this feeling of it slipping through our fingers.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: So this is my personal mythology.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: I align with C.S.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Lewis on this, that it is a spiritual journey.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Being on this planet is a spiritual journey.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: We're not just here to have the money.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: We're here to have that heavenly way of being.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: And then we get Earth thrown in.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: We get some of that or maybe all of it or maybe more of it.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: But the feeling tone is what attracts that to us.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: And I think that's what we think about on the verge of sleep.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: We go to sleep with that on our mind, drenched in that.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: And then we wake up in the morning paying at least a tiny bit of attention
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: to what we were just dreaming about, even if it seems to make absolutely no sense.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Even if it feels completely unrelated, we don't know that it is actually unrelated.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Like the mermaid chair of mine.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: It gives me this feeling like every time I think about it, I feel grounded.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: I feel wealthy.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: I feel like I have the jewels of the ocean at my feet.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: So what an abstract thing to think about with regards to manifesting
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: the very practical things in my life.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: But it couldn't be more so.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: It's very practical, actually.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: I like that a lot.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know,
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: because,
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: you're talking a lot about feelings here and how,
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: and I know how like paramount and most important our feelings are,
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: especially when we're creating and manifesting and so forth.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: I was talking to a friend of mine on the weekend
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: and he was saying how he's got this plan and he's just got to grind it out for
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: a few more years at his job and then he'll retire and blah.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: And I go, I go, darling, what I hear you saying is that you're deferring your happiness.
- 17:20Yeah.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: I go, something,
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: what if something happens to you in the years of grinding and
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: then you never get there and you've just deferred your happiness?
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: And this is what I was thinking the other day, like joy isn't the goal that we try to attain.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: Joy is the point.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: Joy, it's the point.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: It is, we're meant to be feeling that now.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: It's like the have, do, be.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: You have to feel it now.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: It doesn't work that way.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: You're not going to be happy when you're going to be happy now.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, exactly.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: And I can say that there is
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: a season for working hard.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: There's a season for reveling in the fruits of our labor.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: There's a season where there's nothing.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: There's a season of winter.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: And so there's been times in my life,
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: if I'm on a book deadline,
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: I'm working all day long,
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: but I find moments then of joy, if not like hours of it, at least moments of it.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Can I at least turn off the music for five minutes and dance around the house?
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Or my dog is a source of pure joy.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: I can at least have her on my lap while I'm working.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: Or when my husband comes in, instead of being like, get out, I'm working.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: I can be like, let's have one big deep dish hug.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: And then I get right back to work.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: And then, hey, could you do dinner tonight?
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: I guess I can't.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: So just little moments of joy.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: And some people might swing the other direction.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: There's a friend of mine, we used to call her Aphrodite on the half shell.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: She's like, Aphrodite on the half shell calling.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: Like she was all too well-versed at being in joy, joy, joy.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: But then when it came time, like all of a sudden there was like, oh shit, I need money.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: And there was this like, like she hadn't prepared for it.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: So she had to go to the opposite extreme and be like, full Athena.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: If we're going to be in the Greek pantheon, we went from Aphrodite to Athena.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Which was a hard shift for her.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: And the message,
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: I think,
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: is to have a little drop of Athena in our Aphrodite and a little drop of Aphrodite
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: in our,
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: I don't know,
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: drop a little bit of them in all of what we do, even if whatever the season may be.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: Totally.

- 20:07SPEAKER_00: leverages our dreams that can help us have these,
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: I call them like injections of joy throughout the day.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: We don't want to be feeling joy 100% of the time.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Because we do, it's important for us to feel the full range of emotions.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: But we do want to make sure that we can marinate in joy whenever we want to,
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: because that's what helps us to raise above the minutiae,
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: to be able to see and be optimistic about what our future can hold.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: And it's only from that place that we can manifest it.
