- 0:22[SPEAKER_02]: Nick is hanging out with some family tonight.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_02]: So that means that I get the blessing of having the second best beard in my life,
- 0:32[SPEAKER_02]: and Eric Trickle coming in here.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_02]: So you guys are blessed with lots of hair on the screen here today, but I'm planning to talk about.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_02]: We got owners meeting going on.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_02]: We got Sean Payton in a very talkative mood today, which was, yeah, but it's always interesting with them that there's those days where he wants to talk to anybody and everybody and share everything that's on his mind and another day is he just wants to bite somebody's head off and thankfully today he was in a good mood so Eric hopefully you're in a good mood right at talks and Broncos football and good to see you man.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's good to see you too.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm always ready to talk, Broncos football, especially, you know, being able to make up for missing yesterday, morning, by the time it hit three o'clock in the morning, and I hadn't slept yet, and knowing I had to be up within an hour, I had a message, Nick, and Dylan, and be like, yeah, I can't do the morning show today.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: So still got some sleep only got about three hours.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: I was up at six o'clock, but.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited to be here.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: And as you said, you know, Sean Peyton provided us with a lot inside with, you know, their thought process, stuff, George Peyton did as well.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: And it was and also as you said, it was one of the things where he was talking to look at Evans must have not been there asking them the questions because man, anytime I see, see, Sean Peyton interact with look at Evans, it's that's where the head bite and comes in.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, a lot to talk about.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited to talk about it.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, I mean, got the got the Amish beard going on.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, being it not quite at your level.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: I just can't grow a hair on the on my chin for whatever reason, unfortunately.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I, I have the problem that it seems like hair wants to ruin everywhere.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_02]: And I got to try to keep it under control as much as I possibly can.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: So this is like me trying to maintain it as much as possible.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_02]: And But it's coming in looking glorious.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: My wife said she'll give me until the end of her end of April.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: And then she's like, then you got to trip trim it up a little bit.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_02]: So guys, you got this for another month.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_02]: Then we'll be talking otherwise, but I wanted to talk some people here in the chat real quick and got in-blocks test prepped saying, I'm here to party.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: There you go.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: We're here to do the same thing.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: We got Denver Loop coming in and saying, how do you all?
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, Papa Veres say, good evening, Broncos Country, let's go, Bo.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_02]: And thank you so much for the super chat there, David.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_02]: always great to see a coming in, especially even just before the show.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_02]: And I just being that kind of support for us.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_02]: So great to have that.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, one of the comments today was about boat.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: And it seems like he is very much ahead of schedule.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: There's been videos now coming in from him out there walking.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_02]: He was at the the Nuggets game with the.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's really cool.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_02]: Any time you see him out in public, it seems like he's got about three or four off in supply and been with them.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: He takes his protection everywhere.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's not just on the football field.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: When he's out in public, he's got his protection.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: So good to see that and good to see him up and walk in.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: Sounds like he's going to be ready for OTAs and good to go.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm happy about that.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: Have you heard anything else on his recovery?
- 3:37[SPEAKER_02]: How that's going?
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: No, I haven't, but I mean,
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: The question was if you'd be ready to go for OTAs and he thought as if you might miss that, you know, the first couple weeks of that and be good to go in early June.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: So with them reporting, I think what May 4th is one Sean Peyton said that their report data is for the veterans.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's good to see that he's going to be good to go for that coming back from my ankle surgery that he had to have after the unfortunate and a needed play in the
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Ted goes out that bill's game that should have ended in the safety, but I digress.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: So it's good to hear it's good to see him back in, I don't know about you.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: The coolest thing with Bonesix this week isn't what Sean Payton said.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: Did you see when he and his wife told Jared Stittam and Sam Ellinger that they were having a baby?
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: That was such a cool thing.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know,
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: For them being in competition for, you know, that first year of the bow came here is rookie season.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_02]: Jared stood them.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_02]: They wouldn't have to that quarterback competition.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_02]: The fact that those guys are that level of friendship, you know, you see plenty of other videos where they're hanging out, their wives are good friends.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's really neat to see, yes, there's competition, but we're still teammates as well.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_02]: And Trump ain't kind of talked about that a little bit today.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk about it more with Jalen Wattl.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_02]: And how he's going to fit into the wider sea for room.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I kind of love he talks about when you've got a good team, the rest of the team and welcomes good players, even at their own position.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they see it as, hey, this is something that ups my game, more so than, well, this guy's taken this away from me.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I can't believe this.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so it's it's good to see that and and I do think jail and model is going to be a great addition to that locker room.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk about it more.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: I want to get to some more in the chat though.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: We got chase coming in saying go Carl and Nick.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: Some of these were coming in before we start the show.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: So they got that the pleasant surprise getting to see the area here.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: We got Paul coming in as well.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: Great to see a Paul.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_02]: Hello everyone Nick and Carl belong on Mount Rushmore.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you want to see this for the next 200 years in broiled and rock up there.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see about that and then Ernie Mays as well, Goldbrocko's country only, hello, Carl and Eric, good to see you Ernie and appreciate you always coming in and making sure that we stay on task with our Broncos football.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: and of course we got Roy as well saying good evening Carl and Eric heard good and bad from Sean today.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm interested to hear what you think is the bad that he said today.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: I mean again, I mean he's one of those guys.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: He's almost honest to a fault at times.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: Or if it comes to his mind, he says it.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_02]: So there could definitely be some some bad interpreted within that.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: Did you work?
- 6:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think there was anything that you would point at and say,
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: just some of the comments he made about the running game, but it's comments that he's been making for the last year, basically.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not shocked that he said he's throwing a support behind the behind RJ Harvey.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: Not shocking.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: I did find it funny is part of his quote was he said we love the way RJ played.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: We ran it more consistently early in the year than we did later in the year.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: That stood out to me because it's just funny because later in the year, who was the primary the primary runner RJ Harvey, but you really like the way he played, but you just you didn't follow that up with saying that you ran it better when he wasn't the primary guy it's it's coach speak prop and up your guy, but you know.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: if you don't take it as coach speak in some of the other comments he had about the run game it can lead to some concern I still expect the Broncos out of the room and I think that both him and George Baines of that you know the draft was still looking at the draft for running back so the match of the room it was just maybe not have as much support for our DRB with this issues as a runner when he was a primary guy
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think they pointed really to two positions.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: But I heard George Payton and Sean Payton both mentioned as we still are looking for players.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: And that's linebacker and running back.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, it should be obvious.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_02]: Both those positions, I mean, you've got starters, but you need depth at those positions.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'd say most other positions, I'd say safety used still needs some more depth.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: Seven keys, great for special teams, but I'm not sure that I'm depending on him to be a starter if Jones or Pufanga go down with injury.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: So you need some of you can feel a little bit more comfortable at that kind of position.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_02]: Linebacker as well, past the top two guys, who do we got?
- 8:25[SPEAKER_02]: Some undrafted guys that showed a little bit of promis last year.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: And adchoparantly from Sean Payton's mouth.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_02]: Uh-huh, and that's where I Roy coming in.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, sorry.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_02]: William, that's the one I was trying to get to, said I really want to hear Carl and Eric Stots on them saying that Ellis, Joe and Ellis will be moved to inside linebacker.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: That that was probably the statement of the day.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if we're really looking at everything else is a lot of coach speak,
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: That was one of those statements that you're going, okay, wait a minute, position change for this kind of guy.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_02]: And so I'm interested to hear your side of this, but I think this is a little bit of two-fold.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: One, you need depth at linebacker.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: And Ellis, you could argue maybe when you're looking at him just size-wise, because he's only six foot two, a little bit shorter compared to what you'd like an edge,
- 9:26[SPEAKER_02]: Although I would say, he's probably one of the best edge centers that we have in that room.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that's something that you can like.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: But I think the other side of it is, you really like the depth at edge.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: And so the idea of, hey, let's at least give this guy a try.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I don't think you can depend on that.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: because he's not played that position.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: So you still need to go find somebody else that you can feel comfortable with if you're not or somebody else went down with injury.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and Chase Wellner is saying bear in mind, it's not a full-time move, and then, breezy coming out of that, he's only taking more steps up linebacker, not a full position change.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll say, when I first saw the comments on Twitter,
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: which were edited down, not the full context.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I thought.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that it was just a part-time move to get him some extra snaps and it was gonna be very situational.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: And for 2026, I still think that's the case, but when you look into the full context of what Sean Peyton said about it, he's talking about Zach Bonn making that move permanently.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: He's talking about his Jonah Ellis's brother, Christian Ellis making that move permanently.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: So I think for 2026, it is going to be just the part time he's going to move back and forth between Edge and Lionbacker.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know, probably third and short, you know, situations where it's very obvious, you need that extra run defense as from the lineback position, something that they didn't trust Justin's or not with last year, you know,
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: see something like that, and then third and longs as well, getting that little extra pass rush up there, and then possibly 2027, that's when we start seeing that full position, position change.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of where I'm seeing it with it now.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: Part tied now, permanent down the road.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: My only question is, why not key Robinson, who did that at Alabama?
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they must see that the athletic profile and the length and everything just fits a little bit better for you than Ellis, but Ellis has been proven to be a good edge setter and a good edge player in the NFL Q he's flash, but not enough consistency just a little surprise that they're just going straight to Jonah Ellis and not giving you a shot at it.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I would agree with that.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_02]: I just Ellis, like I said, it's just a lot of projection that you're having to do here that.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: The ability of dropping back and coverage because you can't just send him on eight gap blitzes every single pass down.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you've got to be able to explain to the deep to the other team that there's a chance he might drop back and you've got to be ready for that for him to sit in his own coverage.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_02]: Now, yes, you want him coming downhill as much as you possibly can because that's where he's at his best, but they're still going to be those times.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: He's got to be able to drop back and handle that kind of position.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're right, at least the nice thing is, they maybe have a little bit of time to at least work with him.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's not gonna be a full time position.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_02]: They can still move him back to Edge and know that he can handle that.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: And at least just go ahead and see what's going on here and see if it works out at all.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: And so yeah, I'm interested to see how it all works out.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: I do love Jonah Ellis.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: He's been a pleasant surprise.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_02]: He's been much better than I thought he would be coming into the NFL.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_02]: And like I said, his ability to help in the run game
- 12:57[SPEAKER_02]: fun to watch.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_02]: And then at the same time, he can still get after the quarterback pretty well, you know, college, it was pretty much used the same spin move over and over and over and over again.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_02]: And it would work in college, but that's kind of going, okay, can he learn a second, third, fourth move to make it work in the NFL.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: And thankfully, he has learned more.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: And like I said, he's gotten better with his handfiding.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: is ability just like to set to understand how the game is playing in front of them and and talking about understanding something.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: I wanted to put this out there for you guys because I think this is very important in our world today and this is kind of near and dear to me because I almost lost my Twitter this week
- 13:36[SPEAKER_02]: because somebody tried to hack my account.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_02]: So I wanted to let you guys know that we do have something here connected to my high-huttle that I think is very, very important.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_02]: And so Rockless Country, never before, has online privacy been more important.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_02]: That's where Surfshark comes in, and it's a game-pater.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: Surfshark is a virtual private network, which covers all your online activity using a VPN as like wearing pants.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: All the important stuff stays private and secure when you walk out your front door.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_02]: Once your device connects to the internet, all the information is encrypted, which keeps you or your online activity hidden from all the snoopers and trackers.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: Now, raise your hand if like me.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: You've served something kind of random, like prices on a Broncos jersey.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: And next thing you know, you're getting jersey ads every time you open one of your social media apps or even browse online.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: Thankfully, today's sponsor, Surfshark VPN can help us out with that.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: A VPN allows me to mask my real IP address so that my online activity is no longer being tracked.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: They also offer a surf shark alert.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: And it's absolutely indispensable.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: The only thing scarier than forgetting a password is finding out that a password has been leaked online somewhere.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_02]: The surf shark alert feature can help with this by constantly scanning the web for your personal info.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: Things like your email address, passwords, or even credit card details.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_02]: It ascends you an instant alert if any of them appear in a data breach.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: It can be a lifesaver.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: So take control of your online privacy and protect yourself against added breaches by signing up with Surfshark VPN.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: It comes with a risk free 30 day money back guarantee.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: Go to surfshark.com slash mile high or just go to surfshark.com and use our code mile high at checkout to get four extra months of surfshark VPN.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: Again, that is surfshark.com slash mile high with our code mile high.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, the URL code can also be found in our show notes down below.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_02]: All right, there we go.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, almost last my Twitter this week or X or whatever you want to call it.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: So I've definitely got myself the VPN going.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: Make sure you guys are doing the same thing.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_02]: But back to this topic.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, Jonah Ellis, it is kind of an interesting one that I'd say a little bit, it's going to depend on where they go in the draft too.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I saw somebody asked that question of why are we scared to draft linebackers?
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: I can say we'll give credit to the Broncos.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: Here's one thing that they have done well.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: They are not willing to draft a position just because it is an absolute need.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I just had this conversation with somebody.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_02]: They sent me the, it was showing how much draft picks or value teams have used on the offensive line.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: And the Broncos were 30 second in that department.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_02]: And I've appreciated that the Broncos haven't been like a lot of teams of panic and take somebody way higher than they had them valued.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_02]: And really the offensive linemen they have taken, most of them have turned into pretty darn good players.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we're talking minors.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking in Wattenberg, foresight.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to think there is maybe one more.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: Gargileo.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, there it is.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: He was injured last year, so we didn't even get a chance to see him, but I had heard that they were very excited about him, that he looked like he was going to make the roster and then happened to get hurt.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: So I appreciate that.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_02]: Inlinebackers is the same thing.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_02]: If you don't have the actual value in the player, you don't take them.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I do think this is a really good draft to take a linebacker.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not a big fan of this draft.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's not the deepest or the deepest.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_02]: or the greatest talent, but there are a few positions that look promising and linebackers definitely one of those, where you can find a guy second, third, fourth round and feel pretty good about it.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_02]: And just by the Broncos comments, it does seem like, hey, we're very focused on finding somebody that we feel like can be added to that room and help them.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_02]: Now, is that the second round pick, or is that one of the seventh round picks?
- 17:56[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't do that is minebacker.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: It is a really hard position to project into the NFL.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it is one of those positions that.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: has a lot higher misrate than you expect.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: Even though it's a lesser valued position, it's very difficult because the way that college football is played in the way the NFL is, there is enough difference for the linebacker position with a lot more task on them that it makes it a lot more difficult.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: Coverage is a lot different, you know, you have your run
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: individual like areas.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's why you see a lot of these linebackers coming in the end of all, like they really excel in coverage, but they really struggle against the run, or they do really well against run and struggle and coverage.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: That is a make-up of the majority of this draft class.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: They excel in one area and they have issues in other.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: CJ Allen, better run defender than he is in coverage.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: Jay Gold, they better in coverage than he is as a run defender.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: Anthony Hill,
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: run defenses, question, well, coverage is, he's more of a jack of all trades to be honest.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then, Josiah Trotter, I mean, the guy offers really next to nothing as in coverage.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a very difficult position to draft in the last thing you want to want to be as forced into drafting one.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think the Broncos opening the door of Jonah Ellis making that transition in, and again, it seems like it's going to be in certain down and distances at least for this year.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: Unless he makes an astronomical leap with just picking up the position, which doesn't
- 19:31[SPEAKER_01]: And going forward from their next year, you don't want to have to force yourself into having to take another downhill linebacker because you need somebody to rotate with just answer not because he has a lot of issues working downhill as a run defender so it's just giving yourself more options and the Broncos and this is something that Nick and I've talked about a lot and I'm sure Nick and you have talked about it a lot as well as the Broncos don't like to go into the draft with any very obvious needs and depth lineback was one.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: Rotating Justin Ellis between edge and linebacker doesn't eliminate that need, but it does help it a little bit.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_02]: All right, switch and things up here a little bit.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: We do have fill coming in with some stars and good evening Carl Eric and Deacon Scott, do you think we draft a quarterback this year and if so, who are you looking at?
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: Eric, I'll put this one to you first.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: I am in the mindset that you draft a quarterback every single year.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't necessarily have to be early, obviously.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: And when you have botanics, I'm not talking about in the first four rounds.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not even talking about with the fifth round, but you have three, seventh round picks, draft the quarterback.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: They're a flyer if they go out and do really well in the preseason.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: Guess what?
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen it throughout the years.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Teams are willing to flip a six-round pick for that quarterback just to take that shot on them without good day look.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not, you know, the rookie year, but year two, that's when it happens.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm all for taking that taking that risk.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: Several throw picks.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: They rarely ever hit.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: Take a shot on a quarterback.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: There are some quarterback options in that seventh round area.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: Some of them might be on drive the for agents, but we've talked about, uh, or we've seen Sean Peyton talk about how, well, in that seventh round, we're also looking at, at guys that we want us on drive the for agents that may not
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I can't remember Jonathan Cooper was the guy that they mentioned specifically.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think yesterday where they ended up drafting him in the seventh round because they wanted him as an adryte for agent, but they were told he's going to sign with Baltimore.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: So they took that choice away from him and drafted him anyways.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the kind of kind of mindset that you do.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: You go see what quarterback you want.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: If you can get him as an undirected for agent, all right, great, if you're forced to take him, then take him.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's a seventh round pick.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lottery ticket.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's a shot in the dark anyways.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: Just take that shot on the quarterback.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: Haines King is an option with the athleticism.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: Cole Peyton probably goes earlier than you expect, tail and green.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: If you're looking for you, you know, gadget quarterbacks, like all it tastes some hill.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: Mark Bernowski out of Iowa.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: Don't ever tell Nick I said this, but I cannot get his block in the shrineble out of my headway took out two guys to help his running back score touchdown.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: Dude is physical.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: He's not going to be a quarterback at the NFL.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Take some hill type player.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: There is the there's a guy out of to lane.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think rats live for something like that.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: I could last him excuse me.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: And then they also brought in the Rutgers quarter or they had a virtual meeting with the Rutgers quarterback.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: This is a very interesting guy in that
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm with you.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_02]: He might as well take a flyer on the most important position, or where teams are willing to overpay.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to remember there was a, a green bay quarterback, long, long time ago.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: I say long time ago, who signed with Seattle when Russell Wilson, plan, there it is.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: He had like one or two good games.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_02]: And then they paid him a huge contract to come in and be their starter.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_02]: And then they got really lucky that Russell Wilson happened to work out.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: And so you see that teams are willing to just go crazy.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Pat Willis this year.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: The fact that he got the kind of contract he did with Miami.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: Again, it just shows even if you're an average quarterback or could be an average quarterback.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_02]: And so again, willing to take a seventh round pick, maybe you get a Trevor Simian level kind of guy.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_02]: It was a good career back up, who's had a very long career and then I thought you just got signed again.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_02]: So he's got another year of possibly being in the NFL.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, I got a seventh round value.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: That actually I actually turned out pretty darn good for where he was drafted.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: And so yeah, like I said, you mentioned quite a few of them
- 23:57[SPEAKER_02]: It's at least worth taking the chance to just see in what you can get.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_02]: And if nothing else, it helps keep your quarterback room cheap, you know, the next is going to get paid in the next couple of years.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: And it's going to be a giant contract.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_02]: Even if even if he is the 12th best quarterback, when he's getting paid, he's going to be paid like a top five quarterback.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: And that's going to be a huge contract coming up.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: So you want to keep that room as cheap as you possibly can, moving forward.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, plenty of chances for that.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm just looking at this, the 50th highest average salary quarterback is $45 million right now.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's not even counted.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_02]: The three rookies who should be at the top 15 quarterback.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_02]: So if you think he's signing for less than 50 million, it's not happening.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_02]: especially with the new TV deals coming in, salary caps about to skyrocket once again.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then also you mentioned Mike Flynn as well, with who's always one of those guys that comes to mind.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: And when he signed with Seattle, I mean, it wasn't a trade, but he got the packers a compensatory pick.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: It was like a fourth or fifth round compensatory pick with that contract that he signed.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: So even if you keep them out, if you're able to show enough, you can get that.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: You can get the you can play the compensatory pick game, which Denver seems to be doing this year.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: So why not start expanding on it.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: But you also have the trades of the guide, the Patriots took and they traded to see at all.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: Milton.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Milton.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Milton.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_01]: And then you also had, I mean, there's a, there's been a bunch of guys throughout the last few years that have done that and it's the same similar mindset with signing a cheap veteran quarterback and see in which you can get out of the kind of like what they did was act Wilson, I didn't, they didn't get anything in return for them, they didn't get in the compensatory pick or didn't trade them so that doesn't really help a whole lot, but it's still a shot at it.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, you just trying to build up that room.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: It is such a valuable position, play into that value by adding guys who can help out the team, even if they're no longer in ways when they're no longer with the team.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the packers are poised to get a third row of compensatory pick or a fourth round pick next year for the Malik Willis contract, after he only played a few games for him.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, he was drafted in what the third round, so it's a little bit different than a seventh on quarterback, but it's that kind of mindset that I'm specifically talking about.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's definitely good return.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: I'd say, Edges is another position that's worth taking a chance sometimes.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_02]: Just if they turn into anything again, that's another position teams are willing to trade for.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_02]: Or...
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: signed to those bigger contracts moving down the road and maybe getting that convict back.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_02]: I know Ravens.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: I've talked about it before on this show.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: They are famous for doing that.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_02]: Every couple years taken another edge guy, maybe third or fourth round.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_02]: And then letting their edge guys walk to another team sign a big contract.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_02]: They get a third round convict or fourth round convict back.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_02]: And then they use that on an edge guy.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's just a cycle of it's pretty much we're getting a free player every single time because we just
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: In the the Ravens on that note with playing the comic game, they had the longest streak for four, which is the maximum four commensory fix that like six years in a row.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_01]: Because they just drafted so well that they were able to turn to those guys that they drafted, create place to guys that they were letting go and they still they're still probably one of the best teams at playing the compensatory pick formula year and year out.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_01]: But going back to quarterback as well with another mindset here and I saw somebody mention it in the chat or mentioned him in the chat, Jared Stidham, we have teams calling for Jared Stidham wanting to trade for him and have since for agency started, Denver seemed like they want to keep him in town, but maybe you draft a guy, maybe Sam Ellinger steps up a little bit and that guy that you draft or sign as an undergraduate for agent shows enough to stick around as that third string quarterback practice
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: the roster cutdowns, then maybe it's Jared Stitter right now that you're moving on, which can help you out with a salary cap a little bit.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_01]: Even though Denver's not in a bad spot with it, get you additional an additional pick next year may not be a high pick, but you know, six, seven-thromb pick, it still can help.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: It can help you trade for a better and it can help you move up and down and
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: and the draft and be, you know, burst tile with what you want to do, which the Broncos want.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: And plus 2027 is supposed to be really good class, at least on paper right now.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: It looks to be a really good class.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: being able to put yourself in a position to possibly stack up picks next year with that quarterback, with the possibility moving out from Jared Siddham.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's goes beyond just a compensatory pick game, but just continuing to build a good roster that allows you to turn, you know, turn it over at certain spots for different reasons.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_02]: All right, I wanted to get to this question from Lou Breezy coming and saying, Sean and George didn't say anything about Titan.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_02]: It was more hyping up the guys that they already have than talking about a need at the position.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: So Sean Payton talked a lot today about Adam Troutman and just really what he brings to the table.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_02]: And part of the reason that they resigned him is because they know what they've got in him.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I know you're you're going to laugh about this one, but talking about how he's a very good run and pass blocker and that he helps out and that he can be a receiver out there if you need him to be, but that he's just a really good all around tight in is pretty much what Sean Pate was trying to point towards and I think if the Broncos see a tight in and the draft they like, they'll draft them, but at this point,
- 29:48[SPEAKER_02]: Broncos are kind of looking at their depth and saying, where are we going to get a rookie to fit in on this roster?
- 29:55[SPEAKER_02]: And I know Titan isn't a good position for us, but Adam Troutman should be on an NFL roster.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_02]: Have an ingram is still there.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_02]: He still have loner from the year before, maybe I don't know what he's gonna be, well, what we'll have to see.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to think who else they have at the position.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: Nate Adkins, Lucas Curl, yep, yep, those two.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_02]: So it's not a great position, but they've got depth.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_02]: I guess the best way to kind of, it's the nicest way to put it.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: When we're talking about the tight end position.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_02]: And so I don't think that they see the need that maybe we do.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: They see something with that enthrotment as a blocker that no one else is seeing and I mean for three years straight he's been one of the worst run blockers from the tight end position he's been bottom 10 in both run stuff right allowed missed her and blown block rate like three years straight he's the only one to be bottom 10 and all three of those years.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: 100 and four times like sure you need it for a hundred and four snaps but that's very few per game.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: I don't get the I don't get the love Sean Payton has for Adam Troutman.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: It is questionable and hearing him hype him up once again after hearing all that hype that came out about his blocking ability.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: it's a little bit insulting.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's like that fans and other analysts don't have eyes, but it is what it is.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: They see something in them.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, my biggest issue here is that even if they do believe him as a blocker, you still have Evan Ingraham on the final year of his deal, who really didn't look like he was
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: much of what he used to be, seem like he very much is running out of gas.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: You have Lucas Crowell who has never looked like he's going to be more than just a fourth string tight end, and then Nate Atkins, who's more of a full back than he is a tight end.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: And both of those last two guys have issues staying healthy.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully they still are looking at tight end, and it can be helping raising that debt for it.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: They have good depth or lacking that guy, but at the same time, you can still upgrade that depth pieces that you have.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: And one thing on this, there what the Champagne was asked about the tight end prospects in this draft class, he said, and I quote, in fairness to the question, we did our front board meetings prior to the combine, which is an overview.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: Today, Tuesday tomorrow morning at 730, we enter that teen meeting room and we're in there for the next 26 days, there are some really good prospects, but I'm anxious to see who they are because right now, I just know the names.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, I just know them like you do, hopefully we can get to know them and possibly have a target in there.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_01]: So adding a tight end is still very much in play.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_01]: And it sounds like they just haven't done a lot of that in extensive work, at least from the coaching staff.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: In his comments about Adam Trottman, he also hyped up Deckland oil as his coach and worked with, he's done with tight end.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully it all comes together, tight end room because right now that is, that is the position I most concerned about.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_02]: Would you call it the weakest position on the team?
- 33:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: I would call it the weakest position on the team, at least with just since or not, he has very capable in coverage.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: And Alex Hamilton was very capable as a downhill run defender inside line to sideline.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: They have their issues there.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but I would probably give them a D plus C minus if I was given that position grip a grade.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: Probably C minus with, you know, factoring in Jonah Ellis getting snaps there.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's still a D D minus for me at the tight end position.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm with yeah.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_02]: Running back without JK Dobbins is definitely a scarier thing just because it has more value than tight end.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_02]: But with him.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_02]: When he is healthy, I mean, last year before he went down with injury, he was top five in rushing yards.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I think I think he was even top five for top 10 in yards per carry, broken tackles.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he was being like a top five running back in football last year when he was healthy.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 34:15[SPEAKER_02]: with him factored in, it makes that position look pretty darn good if he can stay healthy.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I know Sean Paine talked about that too.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_02]: He said, we get it.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_02]: We hear that you fans and we know the injury history and all those kind of things.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_02]: He kind of pointed to, and I don't know, this is kind of a weird thing.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't have the soft tissue issues.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_02]: The guys that have the recurring injuries that can be
- 34:41[SPEAKER_02]: That are very hard to deal with because you never quite know when they're fully healed.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's one of those.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's one of those injuries.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_02]: It's not completely preventable, but there are things you can do to help with those.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_02]: Where a lot of JK Dobbins ones is just it really is a lot of freak injuries.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_02]: And Achilles tearing.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_02]: There's not much you can really do about that.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_02]: You can do some stretching to kind of help though those areas, but it just happens.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_02]: You know, last last year with the listpring injury, it was unfortunately, it's one of those drop tackle, those drop hit tackles or whatever they call them.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_02]: And they're supposed to be illegal.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_02]: And that's part of why they're illegal is because these are the things that happen because of them.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_02]: And so it just, well, everybody just cross your fingers and just hope that that man can stay healthy for the run game.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_02]: And and hope that the Broncos may be fine to better third,
- 35:41[SPEAKER_02]: or McLaughlin, they're okay, but you definitely need an upgrade over that.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: They're fine as that fourth running back practice squad guy that you bring in just in case of an injury for it.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: And what you're saying with Jacob Dobbins, it's spot on, it's not these recurring injuries that players deal with that are that may get it concerned.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's, they've been those freak injuries.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: Those things that aren't consistently problematic, the Achilles, the ACL and other ligaments that hate
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's not, you know, constant nagging growing or a hamstring or anything like that.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what makes it more frustrating really with him.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_01]: Over that is because it's like man like it's you don't want to say injury prone because it's not these recurring injuries, but at the same time he's misgames every single year of his career and all but one of them have been to due to a lower body injury.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just been these freak types.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_01]: So there's, there's gotta be something there.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: The only time he didn't miss time with an injury was his rookie season when he missed time due to COVID in 2020.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_01]: So it's, it's a concern for it.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, I think it's, I think it's bullish to bet on him for a full season.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully,
- 37:01[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully he proves me wrong.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's able to play out of full season because that is what's best for the Broncos, and he was really looking good last year Before he got hurt and I was doubting him last year, too I questioned the decision.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was waiting until June for a reason.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know dealt with an injury last year after the first For first four weeks of this season.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: He really fell off was one of the least efficient backs for the charges after that point
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: There are a lot of issues there, so hopefully he can prove me wrong again.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_01]: Stay healthy for a full season and have that big season because he deserves it.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: He seems like a really nice guy, really down to earth.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's gone through so much like my issues, you know, with the injury and stuff.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's nothing directed at the player, specifically for who he is or anything like that, not like some other players that I absolutely hate on because of.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_01]: them being terrible people.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: He seems like a good person.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_01]: He seems like he's a great teammate, a really good leader, and just so needed for it.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm glad Denver paid him.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad he's getting 8 million from Denver.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_01]: Just not necessarily the contract I would have done for him personally, but hey, I'm not a team decision-making, right?
- 38:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I definitely would have built in more incentives.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_02]: into that kind of contract of four million base with the ability to make four or five extra million in incentives.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_02]: I think would have, I would have felt better about that.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_02]: At least brings Brock as a little bit more protection from the entry and, you know, yeah, Thorne Bless saying he needs to find a four-leaf clover or block horseshoe and just wear it in every single game.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty much.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: Is there, is there anybody on the Broncos that's bald, you know, rubbing the bald head for luck?
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure there's a few.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: Should we point Chad his way?
- 38:43[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, hey, if it helps the Broncos have a great running game, I'm sure Chad would would drive Denver every game to make sure that he had somebody to rub the head just to take care of that.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_02]: But
- 38:57[SPEAKER_02]: Are there any, just kind of, it's not quite switching subjects here, but when you're looking at the draft, then, would you be willing to use the second round pick on running back?
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it depends on who.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: And for me, that only who is Mike Washington, Jr.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: I know a lot of people have to dairy and price higher.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_01]: miscontrued a little bit.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_01]: Nick likes to mention that I hate the player.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't hate the player.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't like him for Denver.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't like him as much as other people do.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if they're, if it's a situation where they're wanting to move on from Marvin Mims, all right, I get it because that returner aspect is a different sport with jerry and price.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: But offensively, he is a, he's a worse version than RJ Harvey.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: hasn't, I don't see anything there as a receiver in the past game and limited opportunities.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: Blocking's not there.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: A little bit more explosive runner, but I mean, when he gets, when somebody gets hands on him, he's pretty easy to bring down.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_01]: He just explosiveness and shifting his makes it hard.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_01]: So Washington with that power element, not he did clean up the fumbles a little bit this last year.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, his career fumble rate is really bad, but this last
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: So he put in the work he cleaned up one year older prospect like I get the concerns there, but again the power element he showed he has exposed an isn't first of the combine don't always see it on tape though he's that one running back there at 62 that I would be considering and even then it's like Do we risk trading down if we can Five to ten spots and getting him later because if so then definitely do that.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah
- 40:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm not I'm not trading up for running back.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_02]: That's for sure.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm kind of with you on price.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_02]: I he could turn into the second best running back in this draft class.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm willing to let another team make that take that chance.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_02]: Then the Broncos that there's some skills there.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there, there's some great athleticism.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, once he gets going, it's going to be hard to catch that guy.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, he did have limited touches.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_02]: So there's some of that of, okay, maybe his best football is ahead of him.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe if he was getting starter quality snaps, he could work on some of these other things that were a problem.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_02]: So his issues were kind of magnified because he had so few touches.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe if he had another 200 touches,
- 41:35[SPEAKER_02]: or 150 touches, you maybe could have done something a little bit more.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I don't know, but like I said, I'm willing to let somebody else take that chance on his potential, where there's a couple other guys that I like a little bit more, Washington being one of them, Jonah Coleman is one that I like him.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_02]: There's nothing, there's no one thing that's really special about his game.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_02]: He's just kind of good about everything.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he can help you in the past game, he can help as a past blocker, he can run up the
- 42:04[SPEAKER_02]: He's not great at getting it to that side, but he can a little bit if you need him too.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_02]: I'd say maybe his best quality that I've seen on tape is his contact balance.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_02]: He does a great job somehow.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's kind of almost like falling over and he just is able to pop back up.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_02]: I've really, I've found, especially when you get to the NFL that contact balance becomes a really big thing for running back.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's one thing I do like about him.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I think as a third running back, his ability to kind of do a little bit of everything is kind of a nice compliment.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_02]: So either of Harvey goes down or JK Dobbins, you have a guy that can come in and do some of the things that either of them could do.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_02]: I like Emma Johnson of Nebraska.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I have him a little bit more,
- 42:52[SPEAKER_02]: shown to me because my family or my wife's family is all from Nebraska, so they're all making sure I know, hey, have you seen him at Johnson play?
- 42:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, thank you.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I've watched him run.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_02]: But he is a good player.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I think he's he's another one got some underrated ability between the tackles.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_02]: He's a little bit for his size.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_02]: You think maybe that wouldn't be where he would go, but I think he has pretty good vision to make it work there.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: So those are my fourth round kind of guys.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_02]: This is not my second round.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_02]: I want to make that clear.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not trying to say, hey, take all these guys in the second round.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_02]: But those are guys I'd probably have over price right now, compared to where it prices expected to go in this draft.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I question for you.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: And it's related to price.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: In your opinion, where is the worst area on the field that fumble the football?
- 43:47[SPEAKER_02]: I guess it'd be on an outside run because there's more, there's less people around.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: I was meaning like, more, more, more so we're on the field, like, inside your own 10, between the 20s, like, inside your own 10 would be bad.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's automatic points for the other team.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_01]: For me, for me, it's inside your own inside the 10, inside the five especially.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_01]: Jerry and Price fumble two or three times in the last two years within the two yards of the end zone.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: He just doesn't protect the ball very well, but.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_01]: I like Jonah Coleman for Denver in that fourth round even if you have to move up a little bit like he's not a top 100 player to me, but with the way this running back class I can see a team in the late 80s early 90s going and taking a shot on him just because it's not the best running back class if you have to take package both those fourth round picks and get up into that range, which
- 44:46[SPEAKER_01]: shows like doable within within previous years with some of the draft day trades happened.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_01]: All right, do it.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: I like him.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_01]: One of the things that I like the best about him is that he can beat that third down back.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's very capable.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: One of the better blocking running backs in this class.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and he's very capable as a receiver.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_01]: He actually has
- 45:05[SPEAKER_01]: like the third highest usage as a receiver out of the back field in this class for the running back system like that.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's absolutely insane for a guy as big as he isn't in the power he has but contact balance as you said that is one of those main traits that I look for in a running back.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: Can you stay balanced throughout contact?
- 45:22[SPEAKER_01]: How hard are you to bring down?
- 45:23[SPEAKER_01]: They kind of
- 45:25[SPEAKER_01]: poorly a little bit with each other and he definitely has it.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not as high on Emma Johnson.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I like Caleb Black out of Indiana quite a bit.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're the good one.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: Cateron Allen, he's another one probably fourth fifth area there, depending on the medical with Nick Singleton.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: He broke his foot, however that's how that's the one that could really play an impact into him.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: I like him as well.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: And those are all guys like with you for if we're talking about Jderian price at 602, I'm willing to take any one of those guys in that fourth round or even make a slight trade up for them instead of Jderian price at 602.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_02]: I don't mean to give people flashbacks to a terrible game.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: But the Seahawks, Broncos game, Russell Wilson, you know, set to get his revenge and Melvin Gordon fumbled on the one-yard line.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_02]: Did Russell Wilson fumbled on the one-yard line as well?
- 46:23[SPEAKER_02]: Or is it?
- 46:24[SPEAKER_02]: So, I know they had two fumbles inside the five-yard line.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_02]: I was listening to an interview with Shelby Harris, the other day.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_02]: And it was right after that game when they're interviewing him, because that was after the trade, of course, and he's there in Seattle and he's like, yeah, we had these two gold line stands and made him fumble and just, you know, I think we lost that game by one point and we had those two fumbles and it just shows.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, those are it's not just that, okay, you get stopped in the
- 47:01[SPEAKER_02]: You can't lose those three points.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_02]: When a lot of these games, you especially think about the Broncos last year.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_02]: The one score games, Sean Pate talks about 11 of 13 Broncos won those games.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_02]: And if we fumble in any of those, we lose them.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_02]: So it's very important for them to hold on the ball.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_02]: And George Box comes in and saying great pod and the best draft analyst in the business.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_02]: Hit the thumbs up, guys, and yeah, thank you so much to George.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_02]: got a my spring we got nine nine likes and and a one wow of course from Phil got to have the wow from Phil and so appreciate that guys keep keep them coming and keep them coming the questions coming as well.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_02]: Javante was the other one that fumbled.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I played the thread about Javante, man.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's just thinking of Javante, it's just hard when lastary has his great year.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: go, why can't you do that in Denver?
- 47:53[SPEAKER_02]: I get the injury really kind of sapped him from being able to do that.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: So just kind of stuff to see that.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_02]: But no, it's, that was one of those games where again, you see how soul crushing those kind of humbles are.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_02]: If you think you're going to get points, think you're about to go into the in zone and boom, pops out other team has the momentum going for them.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely can't have that.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_02]: And like I said, Mike Washington, definitely worked on it.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_02]: Got better as his college career went on.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_02]: That is a skill that you can get better at.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_02]: So it's good to see him putting in the work to be able to do that.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_02]: And as I've told a lot of people, I like some of these running backs.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_02]: I don't love anybody beyond love.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_02]: And there's no way we're getting love.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_02]: So just that to put that one out of my mind.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it was less than one percent chance, but a non-zero percent chance, we would get love even before the water trade.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_01]: It just seems so unlikely.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: He seems pretty much set now at this point with what's going around that he's going to be a top five pick in this class.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_01]: So, obviously, we'll wait and see, but there's a lot of giants love there for him and even the Titans, I guess, have been really looking as way so.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_01]: What do we see?
- 49:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm so glad that about this as chat sitting here is roasting you for bringing up Melvin Gordon.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad that you say Melvin Gordon and not just Gordon, because a couple weeks go.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_01]: We were, lines and I were talking about somebody and he just said Gordon, I thought he was talking about me for a second.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but yeah, with this, with this class and with the fumbles, it's always tough.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I have a very high importance on fumbles.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if for years, I've, I've talked about fumbles and fumble, right, everything like that.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_01]: I absolutely wanted nothing to do with jadom blue out of Texas last year.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought for sure, Nick and I were going to go to physical blows over the internet over jadom blue having to talk about them.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_01]: because in the modern NFL, drives are so important because the number of drives per game are dropping on average.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that we've just had three years because I could believe where we've had the lowest amount of the lowest average drives per game.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_01]: And so whenever you fumble and you put that ball on the ground for that opportunity for the other team to get it even if they don't that opportunity for them is such a concern and then obviously not running back here, but look at the Patriots in over the playoffs would Drake may and even last year there is a lot of he had led the league in fumbles a lot of those were able to go against go against them because of the play of the defense.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_01]: It is just a such a bad thing to have as part of your profile as any type of player is fumbles, which is an issue with some of the tight ends in this class too.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_01]: They have a high fumble rate, max, clear out of Ohio State.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of fumbles for a tight end.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's just so important that you just don't turn the ball over.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's always been important, of course, but the importance has only
- 51:01[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, this is why Sean Peyton harped on this during the season after the season of the Broncos need to force more turnover because, like I said, with so few drives, those are game changers.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_02]: Now, thankfully, Broncos were still able to win a lot of games without having the turnovers.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm hoping that maybe next year things kind of balance out the other way where we get a bunch of turnovers and we're not having these once core games to worry about.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_02]: and it works out well, but you definitely don't want to have players that are going to be a problem that you have to worry about them being on the field and the ball pop and out.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, I mean, that's one of the great qualities bonus.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_02]: He does a great job of protecting that football.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe a few too many interceptions for my liking, but he is still a second
- 51:50[SPEAKER_02]: Some of that gunslinger mentality that he does have out of his game, because it also leads to some of the magical plays that we get to see.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_02]: But he would even probably the first one to say, hey, I've made some mistakes, made some bad reads, led to some bad plays that hurt our team.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_02]: And so things I do expect him to clean up as time goes on, but his ability to protect football from fumbles is huge.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_02]: And Drake may, yeah, that's going to be a concern.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the way he looked in the playoffs,
- 52:19[SPEAKER_02]: But for a guy that was being talked about as MVP and then he goes out and plays that way in the playoffs.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he should be buying everyone on that defense state dinner or about 10 of them to make up for the fact that we weren't talking about, well, his Drake may terrible and the, you know, does he, does he struggle in the big games kind of like Justin Herbert, is he gonna follow that same kind of path but we got Phil coming in and saying, would this be a good year to trade back and get more picks?
- 52:49[SPEAKER_02]: And I've seen, maybe as you fill, somebody asked, how many, how many great players are in this draft?
- 52:58[SPEAKER_02]: Like what's the point?
- 52:59[SPEAKER_02]: What's the cut off for great players?
- 53:03[SPEAKER_02]: 12?
- 53:08[SPEAKER_01]: I, two, I'm at seven and I'm trying to think of other great players.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_02]: So here's my thing, if we're trading back for more picks, it would be for 2027.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_02]: Just in part, one, the Broncos do have a decent number of free agents next year.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_02]: So there's gonna be a lot more roster spots for 2027 compared to 2026.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_02]: This year there's gonna be, I mean, you're gonna be able to get rookies on the contracts because they just pushed somebody else off of the death chart.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_02]: But really, there's probably about six or seven spots where you're going to get people that could contribute on this team.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_02]: And so I'm not really looking to add more draft picks.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_02]: Unless it is for 2020.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I'd have pulled my big board just take a look.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: I only have 16 players with the first round grade.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I wouldn't say all of those are all of them are great players either.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_01]: Normally I'm all forward trading down and acquiring more picks, acquiring more darts to throw and more darts, more chances to hit the bullseye.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_01]: This is a year where I think I'll probably more than fine if they look to trade up consolidate those picks into what they can, anyways, of better prospects than just those more darts.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_01]: And hopefully they hit, I'm obviously, you know, that'll hope you hit on them.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: Unless those trade downs come with 2027 picks.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to acquire a bunch more picks in a bad class.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_01]: I want to acquire more picks down the road that gives me more ability to move around next year in the draft.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_01]: So if it comes with that, I'm all for trading down, but if you're not getting those 2027 picks, which I think Daniel Jeremiah and Adam Shepter have both said that teams really don't want to trade those 2027 draft picks.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trade up uses capital consolidate those two fourth rompics into a into a fourth rompic consolidate those three sevens into a late six or something like bus swing jet, less chances at a bull's eye, but you're probably getting yourself a little bit of a better prospect.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_02]: I'm with that.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_02]: All right, guys.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think we're going to be wrapping it up here pretty quick.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_02]: So I want to thank you all for coming in and supporting us once again.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_02]: We're, we're T minus a shot bait and said 26 days until the draft.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's early this year.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_02]: It feels weird that it's so early in April.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's usually like the last few days of April.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's usually my birthday.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_02]: We're celebrating my birthday on the podcast.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_02]: And so it feels weird that it's almost like a week earlier this year.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_02]: So make sure you guys are tuning in and keeping track because we're going to be talking lots of draft.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_02]: We finally reached the point.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_02]: We can finally really talk about it and not feel bad about talking about the draft on this podcast.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_02]: Usually we've already started in about November.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_02]: So it feels weird that we're just now starting at the end of March to really kind of dig into this.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_02]: But I wanted to make sure to give a shout out.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_02]: We got David coming in early on, of course, Phil and George and Phil again.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you guys for the support this evening and appreciate y'all.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'll tune in for that the bearded show.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_02]: And Eric, I want to say thank you to you for stepping in for Nick and and love talking to you, man.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_02]: Always enjoy getting the chance to talk some draft with you.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody else, I'd probably rather talk about the draft than with you.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_02]: So always a good time there.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_02]: But guys, thank you for tuning in to building the Broncos and we'll get out of here real quick, but this has been.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's been a good time for the Broncos.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_02]: Sean Payton talking today, George Hayden as well, lots to be excited about.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't even get into talking about what he said about Jayden Lottell.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_02]: He's a 10, 10, 10, 10, 10.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_02]: You know, across the board.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_02]: And so guys, it's gonna be an exciting season.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_02]: The Broncos are not done building this team yet.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_02]: So like I said, everybody have a great week and go Broncos.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_00]: You've been listening to a building the Broncos.
