- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So we're talking about creativity today, one of my most
- 0:35favorite subjects. Oh, listen, there's Rufus going
- 0:37off and we are talking about it because I am in super, super
- 0:42creative mode right now. So maybe this we're going to do
- 0:46a couple of these in a row. I'm not sure we'll see how it
- 0:49goes. But this morning we're going to
- 0:50talk about the path of creativity because I think it's
- 0:52super important to recognize that it is not a straight line
- 0:56when you are being creative. It's actually a squiggly line, a
- 1:00very squiggly line. It's more, if you've, if you've
- 1:03ever played with a Spirograph, Spirographs are a great way to
- 1:07think of creativity because they're it's all back and forth.
- 1:11It looks like a mess. And then when you pick it up,
- 1:13it's like this beautiful little design that you've come up with.
- 1:17So I'm going to outline the emotional path of it for me so
- 1:22that you can see how this kind of works in my head,
- 1:25recognizing, OK, I'm not abnormal with this.
- 1:29I think it's always really important for us as human beings
- 1:31to understand, is that normal? Am I crazy?
- 1:35You know, we all have those varying thoughts.
- 1:37I myself have them. Just ask somebody that the other
- 1:39day, am I crazy? And I was assured I was not
- 1:42crazy. So it felt good.
- 1:45Even though I know a lot of this stuff, I still need outside
- 1:48sources as well. And that's what's so important
- 1:50to remember. We all need those resources.
- 1:52So here's your peek inside my emotional path of creativity.
- 1:58You know, I have this first thought is this is great.
- 2:01I have an idea. Something pops into my head from
- 2:04virtually nowhere as far as I can tell.
- 2:06And then it's there. So I'm thinking, wow, this is
- 2:09great. I'm like super enthusiastic
- 2:11about it. And I start to get very excited
- 2:14and the emotion is very high and excitement is very high.
- 2:17And the next thing that shows up and you know, out of nowhere is
- 2:22this could be tricky. Now, the reason I use the word
- 2:25tricky is because I used to many years ago, go, oh, this isn't
- 2:29going to work. But that emotion is not welcome
- 2:31on that path anymore. And I can say it's going to be
- 2:35interesting. I can say it's going to be
- 2:36tricky. I can say I've got some things
- 2:40to consider. I can go that route.
- 2:42But I will never tell myself this is not going to work
- 2:45because remember, I'm developing in this time frame a what, not a
- 2:51how and how. You've heard me say this a
- 2:53million times. How is what takes people out all
- 2:55the time and ruins stuff. So we don't go to the how if we
- 2:58don't have to. So this is tricky.
- 3:01This could be tricky, this could be interesting.
- 3:04Whatever it might be, we make sure we have a very clear
- 3:07understanding of that and how we say it.
- 3:10The next thing can be for me, often now I've confused myself.
- 3:15I'm a little confused about where this is, because
- 3:20oftentimes at this point, I might be coming up with two or
- 3:24three things at the same time. Now, if you've taken How to
- 3:28Write a Book in 90 Days, one of the courses that I OfferUp
- 3:31online, it's an audio course. And if you've listened to it,
- 3:36you know, in there, I say, especially if you're doing your
- 3:39first book, oftentimes you're writing more than one book at a
- 3:42time. At least I know for me that's
- 3:44what happens. So you'll start something and
- 3:46you'll have all these essential downloads coming out, but
- 3:49they're not necessarily making sense because they they
- 3:54shouldn't make sense. There are multiple things
- 3:56happening at the same time. But when you uncork that
- 3:59creativity, all of a sudden it's like, and it's like all over.
- 4:03And then you have to sort out, am I doing multiple things at
- 4:06the same time? And the answer is most likely
- 4:08yes. So that's, that's a surprise to
- 4:11when I tell people that because it's like it's OK to be confused
- 4:15because you are it's, it's, it's genuine.
- 4:17So recognize confusion. Then all of a sudden, here's
- 4:22where it gets great because you say, wait, I see something.
- 4:24I see that I'm writing two books, or I see that I'm writing
- 4:27a course in a book, or I see that I'm making two different
- 4:31boards at the same time, whatever it might be, I see
- 4:34something. So clarity starts to show up,
- 4:37which is like such a relief because now you know you're not
- 4:39crazy, right? Then you go, OK, I'm back.
- 4:42And you jump to that next emotion, which is I'm back on
- 4:45track. I get it.
- 4:46I can divide it. This is for me usually where I
- 4:49start heavily whiteboarding things because now I can start
- 4:53to see the pieces and I have a giant whiteboard that flips over
- 4:57so I can have one side. That's just the brain dumps of
- 5:00all the randomness and the other side that's divided so that I
- 5:04can actually sort it all out. And then the last piece, which
- 5:07is so much fun, is I nailed it. Like in the creative process,
- 5:11I've nailed it. I've got it down.
- 5:12I know where my path is going to be, where I'm going to begin,
- 5:15what I'm doing, and then you start producing.
- 5:18But that first wave of creativity is so important to
- 5:21recognize that it does come with emotional back and forth.
- 5:26And when you do that and you recognize that, all of a sudden
- 5:28you feel so much more empowered and you feel so great about it
- 5:31because you're not, you're not crazy.
- 5:35All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day.
- 5:37I hope this was helpful, and I hope you get to sort that out.
- 5:40All right, I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:41Bye.
