Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, they're doing something right in Aukland, though, aren't they.
- 0:01Speaker 1: Business is happy. The police are moving back into the CBD.
- 0:05Speaker 1: There's going to be a new police station on Federal Street,
- 0:08Speaker 1: one hundred and seventy meters from the old police station,
- 0:11Speaker 1: which was closed a few years ago. Vivbs with Heart
- 0:13Speaker 1: of the City. Viv good morning, you're happy.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Good morning, very happy. Thank you.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I'm get news, great news, But what about the detail.
- 0:20Speaker 1: How many police officers are going in here? How many
- 0:23Speaker 1: extra on the beat? Do you know?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Well, the goal at the moment is these fifty one,
- 0:30Speaker 2: and I think we've got another eight to bring that
- 0:33Speaker 2: up to fifty one. We are noticing the difference from that.
- 0:36Speaker 2: But we have said all along that with the CRL
- 0:38Speaker 2: coming on board, we are going to need more because
- 0:41Speaker 2: at the moment we've got about a million people counted
- 0:44Speaker 2: walking around in the core central to the area every week.
- 0:47Speaker 2: But we've got people working, studying, visiting, you know, and
- 0:53Speaker 2: that's FORCUS to grow. So we are going to need more.
- 0:57Speaker 2: But I think, you know, one step at a time.
- 0:59Speaker 2: This is a piece of the safety solution we've been after.
- 1:03Speaker 2: It's a visibility presence right in the downtown area. And
- 1:07Speaker 2: actually that location is good because that station is expected
- 1:11Speaker 2: to be the busiest one in New Zealand. It's a
- 1:13Speaker 2: central location to get up to K Road downtown.
- 1:16Speaker 1: How many people will you get through that station? Do
- 1:20Speaker 1: you know?
- 1:20Speaker 2: Well, I think I mean the plans originally we're talking
- 1:24Speaker 2: about fifty four thousand an hour. That's when all those
- 1:27Speaker 2: extra crossings and things that they're talking about are up
- 1:32Speaker 2: and running and ranking optimally, So that'll take a little while,
- 1:35Speaker 2: but that is going to be a really busy area.
- 1:36Speaker 2: So you know, you probably weren't. I was a young
- 1:39Speaker 2: person in New York in the eighties when the set
- 1:42Speaker 2: when the underground was very very unsafe, only for being
- 1:45Speaker 2: there with my parents. We've got to get this safe,
- 1:48Speaker 2: and so having police in that location and having enough
- 1:52Speaker 2: of them is going to be important to actually get
- 1:54Speaker 2: the safety right right from the start.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Your hope that would be because you said there's about
- 1:58Speaker 1: eight more offices coming on the beach for this shop,
- 2:02Speaker 1: so you'd be hoping to actually increase that even further
- 2:05Speaker 1: once the station.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Over time, and we've raised that with police because we're
- 2:09Speaker 2: basically getting a terranean operation going there and it's important
- 2:13Speaker 2: that it starts off on the right footing. But at
- 2:15Speaker 2: the end of the day, having that location I think
- 2:17Speaker 2: is a great start. It will be and the New
- 2:22Speaker 2: Continent has seen himself. There will be an ongoing focus
- 2:25Speaker 2: in central safety safety and they're talking about other areas
- 2:28Speaker 2: as well. But you know, from our perspective, we want
- 2:31Speaker 2: to be a vibrant, safe, twenty four to seven international
- 2:34Speaker 2: city and you need enough police to create that safety.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Thanks so much for your views this morning. Always appreciated.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Vive Beck with Heart of the City of the Chief Executive.
- 2:44Speaker 1: They are twenty three minutes after five. My question and
- 2:47Speaker 1: I'll answer my own question next, hopefully you can help me,
- 2:51Speaker 1: is where do all the crazies go once you kick
- 2:54Speaker 1: them out of the CBD For
