- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The feast of Saint Joseph of Cupertino, September 18 in the year of our Lord 2026. Of today's saint, Dom Gaspar Lefebvre writes the following, a humble son of Saint Francis whose stigmata we honored yesterday, Saint Joseph also glorifies the cross of Jesus, which the liturgy exalted a few days ago, September 14. Like the seraphic patriarch, he strove to remain attached to the cross by absolute poverty, heroic obedience, and virginal purity. Such was his spirit of sacrifice and prayer that he accepted with holy patience and great serenity, outrages, reproaches, and all sorts of injuries.
- 1:09Wherefore God who exalts the humble caused him to pass from the rank of brother to that of clerk and to be made a priest. He wrought such miracles that he implored heaven to withdraw from him the remarkable powers with which he was endowed. He died a holy death at Osimo in the year of our Lord, 1663. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen.
- 1:52The introit. The wisdom that is worth having is the love of God. When she reveals herself face to face, men come to love her, seeing her beauty and recognizing her wondrous power. Oh, lord of hosts, how I love thy dwelling place. For the courts of the lord's house, my soul faints with longing.
- 2:24Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. The wisdom that is worth having is the love of God. When she reveals herself face to face, men come to love her, seeing her beauty, and recognizing her wondrous power. The Collect.
- 2:59Let us pray. O God, under whose providence thy only begotten son was lifted up above the earth so that he might draw all things to himself, accomplish thy gracious purpose in us, and let the merits and example of thy seraphic confessor Joseph help us to rise above all earthly desires and make our way into the presence of him who is God living and reigning with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the first letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians. Brethren, if I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not charity, I am a resounding gong or a clanging symbol.
- 4:04And if I have prophetic powers and understand all mysteries and all knowledge and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains. But have not charity, I am nothing. If I give away all I have and if I deliver my body to be burned but have not charity, it goes for nothing. Charity is patient, is kind. Charity feels no envy.
- 4:46Charity is never perverse or proud, never insolent, does not claim its rights, cannot be provoked, does not brood over an injury, takes no pleasure in wrongdoing, but rejoices at the victory of truth. Charity sustains, believes, hopes, endures to the last. The time will come when we shall outgrow prophecy, when speaking with tongues will come to an end, when knowledge will be swept away, but charity shall never fall away. The gradual, with abundant blessing, thou hast met him on his way, hast set a jeweled crown, Lord, on his head. He prayed for life, and thou hast granted him life unfailing till the end of time.
- 6:00Alleluia. Alleluia. God looked upon him with an eye of favor, lifted him up from his low estate, and raised his head high. Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Matthew.
- 6:23At that time, Jesus once more spoke to the chief priests and the Pharisees in parables. Here is an image of the kingdom of heaven. There was once a king who held a marriage feast for his son and sent out his servants with a summons to all those whom he had invited to the wedding, but they would not come. Then he sent other servants with a fresh summons bidding them tell those who had been invited by this I have prepared my feast. The oxen have been killed and the fatlings.
- 7:06All is ready now. Come to the wedding. But still they paid no heed and went off on other errands. One to his farm in the country and another to his trading, and the rest laid hands upon his servants and insulted and killed them. The king fell into a rage when he heard of it and sent out his troops to put those murderers to death and burn their city.
- 7:46After this he said to his servants, here is the marriage feast already and those who had been invited have proved unworthy of it. You must go out to the street corners and invite all whom you find there to the wedding. And his servants went out into the streets where they mustered all they could find, rogues and honest men together. And so the wedding had its full tale of guests. But when the king came in to look at the company, he saw a man there who had no wedding garment on.
- 8:30My friend, he said, how didst thou come to be here without a wedding garment? Whereupon he made no reply. And the king said to his servants, bind him hand and foot and cast him out into the darkness where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Many are called but few are chosen. The offertory.
- 9:05I, when they troubled me thus, went clad in sackcloth and humbled my pride with fasting, and all my prayer hid itself in my own bosom. The secret. We offer sacrificial gifts in praise of thee, O Lord, and in memory of thy saints, trusting that by them we may be delivered from ills both present and to come through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface.
- 9:55Just it is indeed and fitting right in for our salvation that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God. Through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the power stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory.
- 10:49Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion. See how friendless I am and how distressed.
- 11:10But thy help, oh, God, sustains me. I will sing in praise of God's name. Exalt him with all my homage. The post communion. Let us pray.
- 11:27Refreshed with food and drink from on high, we humbly beg thee our God that we may be guarded by the prayers of him in memory of whom we have received this sacrament through our Lord Jesus Christ thy son who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen. Saint Joseph of Cupertino, pray for us.
