• Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (00:00.971) That was good. Ryan Rayle (00:01.456) God. What's up, everybody? Ryan, ATX Metal Podcast here with these crazies again from Lift the Curse, John and Ryan. Not to be confused with this, Ryan, again, my name is Ryan, your host of the ATX Metal Podcast. And like I said, we got Lift the Curse. We're talking about new music, Texas Takeover music video, probably with Clayton again, I'm assuming. But just for those that don't know you, real quick, Ryan, you kick us off. Who you are? Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (00:07.595) you Ryan (00:09.88) What up? Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (00:22.276) Hahaha, good guess. Ryan (00:24.523) yeah. Ryan Rayle (00:29.742) what you do in the band and where you're from. Ryan (00:32.456) I'm Ryan Hegefeld. I'm from Gatesfield, Texas, which is about 30 miles west of Waco. I play guitar and I sing in a band called Lift the Curse. And this guy over here is John. He's gonna introduce himself now. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (00:45.835) What's up y'all, John Yaton Jr. Play guitar and lift the curse. And from Northern California originally, but been in Austin since 2012. Been best friends with this Hagerfield guy for over 10 years now. So. Ryan Rayle (00:58.096) Cool. And we've been friends for a few years. I can't remember... When did this relationship... Now that I think about it, it's been... No, definitely post. Yeah. Maybe sometime in 23... I know. When... I think it's when I heard about you filling in for the Browning. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (01:00.509) I'll see you. You a while, Ryan (01:06.648) Hmm. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (01:06.655) That's a great question. Was it pre-COVID or post? Definitely post? Okay, I thought so. Ryan (01:14.552) Was it a show? Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (01:17.623) yes, it was that. then Ryan, I feel like we really kicked it off when I got to be on that guitar episode you did. Remember? feel like it was then when I got to start, which was so fun. That was such a cool idea. But no, I think you're right. I think it was something with the Browning stuff. It was around that time. I have even been at that show. I don't know. Ryan Rayle (01:26.442) yeah, shred, shred timber. Yeah, that's right. Dude. Yeah. We're bringing it back. Ryan (01:29.23) You Ryan Rayle (01:35.312) Yeah, that's right. Okay. So that's been, it's been a few years. Yeah, because I remember, I remember I was like, I was trying to plant anyway. Enough about me. We're here to talk about them and their new music House of Horrors. Anybody wanted to take this off? Because we're going to have a radio debut on the Texas Takeover this Sunday, the 22nd at 8pm on 93.7 HD2. KLBJ! Ryan (01:40.654) Mm-hmm. Ryan Rayle (02:03.948) And or you can catch it on I heart radio. Just look up no control radio. We're going to premiere these guys song, but we're to talk about it. So whoever wants to kick it off, John, you want to take take the ball first? Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (02:14.697) I would love to. Yeah, this one, House of Horrors, is our next single off our upcoming fifth album, which we're gonna do one more single after this, which will drop with the album. So look out for it probably May. We haven't set a date yet, but House of Horrors, though, super fun. The video was extremely fun to shoot. We found this house 70s themed, like literally it was on Pierce Space and called That 70s House. And every detail to it was 70s themed. It was sick. We got the cool 70s outfits. My girlfriend stars in it too. And Clayton King, our good friend who does a lot of our music videos, shot it. So it was probably one of the most fun we've ever done. And Ryan, I'll let you talk about the song itself, just because we've got a little bit different vibe to it that we're excited about. Ryan (02:54.484) Yeah, for sure. Yeah, no, when we first started writing it, golly, almost a whole year ago now. Yeah, it was just after the funeral portrait show in Austin. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (03:06.823) you're right. Were you at that? Ryan rail? The word alive one. If you report to it, it was one of our favorite shows. It was all those bands are in Melrose Avenue. Ryan Rayle (03:11.812) Yes, yes. Yes, Melrose, yep. Ryan (03:14.582) yeah. It was like one of my favorite shows ever, it was like a slam in the face introduction to the funeral portrait. I was like, my God, these guys are absolutely incredible. And it kind of reminded me, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (03:16.765) Anyways, so good. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (03:23.71) You Ryan Rayle (03:27.982) the dude with the green with the green hair? Yes. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (03:29.415) Yes, dude, they're on tour with Three Days Grace and I Prevail right now, like, just crushing arenas. So they're doing great. Yeah. Ryan (03:33.39) Yeah, they're blowing it up, yeah. But they kind of reminded me of my love of like the used and my chemical romance, kind of like that, you know, angsty, you know, kind of punk rock, but also kind of different, you know, kind of rock. And I don't know, like a couple of days later, came up with like this kind of cool like circus style riff. going off of what John said about the video, you know, we ended up doing like a 70s kind of theme. in a house, but originally the idea was to do like a creepy circus. So we're kind of we're looking at like, how do we go pay somebody like 200 bucks, hey, when people are out of this circus, we like, or this carnival, can we like ride the Ferris wheel and stuff? it, yeah, we use Pierce based a lot for our videos and it's just a cool way for us to find new venues or new places for us to shoot. And that one was like screaming house of horrors, so. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (04:26.666) Yeah. Ryan (04:26.966) Super excited for everybody to hear the song but also see the video. Yeah, Clayton did a great job encapsulating everything about the song and kind of all the twists and turns. But yeah, super stoked on it. It's gonna be good one, I think. Ryan Rayle (04:42.842) Who was in charge of the wardrobe? Because I was curious. was like, man, did they just walk into a Goodwill and they were like this, this? I mean. Ryan (04:48.024) Ha Ryan (04:53.486) That's a good idea, we should have actually. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (04:54.997) That was a, we should have. No, Ryan had a couple of clutch searches on Amazon and just sent, he sent me my outfit. I'm like, yep, that's it. And then let's see for my girlfriend, same thing. We got just, yeah, just typing in 70 stuff. So yeah, just endless options came up and it was too easy. Ryan (05:01.356) Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Ryan Rayle (05:01.648) Hahaha Ryan (05:06.626) Yeah. Ryan (05:10.382) So fun story though, John's shirt, which I did pick out on accident. I just thought, was like, dude, you're gonna look great in this. And he was like, okay, I'll get it. And that's what he wore. But he kept saying, he's like, I'm gonna wear this like on other occasions. He's like, I'm gonna wear this on date night. Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (05:14.187) Hahaha Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (05:17.855) Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (05:25.415) Yeah, specifically date nights. I haven't yet, but I definitely will soon. Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely. So much. Ryan Rayle (05:28.996) With the glasses too. Yes, of course. Ryan (05:30.862) Yeah, so it just screams like used car salesman from like the 70s or 80s, know, yeah. Ryan Rayle (05:36.272) yeah, that classic, know, got a couple got a couple chains on the wrist chains, And he's out there like three button up, but it's tucked in. And he's and he's just like, come on down. I got just the deal for you. Popping this six. Hopping this. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (05:37.375) Yup. Yup. Ryan (05:44.139) yeah. yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (05:44.628) yeah. Ryan (05:49.003) Yup, yup. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (05:49.363) Yup. Might be... You could buy cars, but probably buy some other stuff there too. Let's be real. Ryan (05:53.672) Yep, that's John. Ryan Rayle (06:04.1) man. All right, and this is where the episode takes a hard left. So what is the song about? mean, is the song about a house of horrors? mean, is the horrors in the house this like angsty relationship? I mean, what are we? Why is it a house of horrors? Ryan (06:04.494) You Ryan (06:08.213) right Ryan (06:24.224) Yeah, so great question. It's kind of like the feeling of being trapped, you know? So you can... Ryan Rayle (06:32.845) Ryan blink twice if you're okay. Okay, he's okay. It's about nine or 10. I was like, he's fine. Ryan (06:36.398) I think that was like eight times. Yeah, it'll be great. But no, it's kind of like quicksand in a way. You feel trapped. It's just another way to kind of symbolize that somebody's trapped. And so it is open to interpretation. We had great podcast last week with someone who was talking about... Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (06:37.643) Yeah, yeah, he's great Ryan (07:01.174) his story and what he thought of the song, because he got to review it and whatnot. And it was crazy seeing a different side of it. But yeah, from me writing the lyrics thing, for me it was kind of like just remembering bad relationships where you feel like you're stuck and you can't get out. Even if you know where the door is and you know that it's right there, you're stuck and you can't get out. Ryan Rayle (07:24.18) Mmm, and that's when it becomes a house of horrors is because you you can't get out you're like Ryan (07:28.628) Exactly. Yeah, yeah. So we mentioned, you know, remember the movie 13 ghosts? We had mentioned that the other day. It was like that glass house with all the different ghosts inside of it. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (07:29.917) Yep. Yep. Yep. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (07:40.171) Who was it? Was it like, who was the main actor? Lillard? Wasn't it something, Matthew Lillard or something? Ryan (07:46.03) Yeah, Matthew Lillard and then, oh, don't remember the other guy's name. But anyways, yeah, it's kind of like that kind of vibe. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (07:54.489) and Ryan, for the music video, we took like the easiest horror plot of all time where my girlfriend is like the owner of this house, whatever, lets us both in and then disappears. And then we both go to different rooms and find a bunch of weird, creepy shit and then door slam. And we realize we're in a bad spot and we can't get out. And then she changes into dark wardrobe. Ryan Rayle (08:09.093) Yeah. Ryan (08:13.014) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (08:15.664) Yeah, I was kind of curious if she was like, if she was like luring you both in. Because I'll be honest, I when I saw the beginning of it and I don't I don't think this is just my take is I thought I thought this was like a boyfriend scenario caught right. Like first one guy comes to the house and then like the second guy comes to the house. I'm like, oh, shit. I was like, it's over. Like someone's someone's dying like there is. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (08:27.339) I'm excited. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (08:31.776) haha Ryan (08:34.446) You Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (08:34.891) Yeah, yeah, Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I was like, it either starts like that or like it's set up for a threesome. could get real, like it could go a lot of different ways. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was telling somebody earlier today when I was looking at ThunderCloud subs and my homie there, I was like, house of horrors. was like, not house of horrors, house of horrors, to be very clear. Ryan (08:41.12) Me and John just end up fist fighting or something. Yeah. Ryan Rayle (08:47.652) Yeah, exactly. Yeah. It's like what kind of what kind of horror house are we? Okay, nevermind. Nevermind. Ryan (08:48.371) You Ryan (08:53.388) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (09:02.576) Correct. Yes. Or-or-or-ors. Roars. There's a lot of- a lot of roars in there. So, Ryan, you said this song was a year- it's a year old? Or a year in the making? Ryan (09:02.892) Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Ryan (09:13.966) So not quite. I think we played that show, Funeral Portrait and Word Alive in, I think it was May, pretty sure. And so it's not quite a year, but it feels like it to us because we don't, know, we are a catch and release band. are, since we record, yeah, we're getting more mature. We're holding onto things a little longer. It just feels like it's been that long. And we have... Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (09:32.777) We're slowing down though. We're slowing down in our elder age. Ryan (09:41.836) You know, we have slowed down and in doing so we kind of do take more time like, you know, making sure like things are perfect, you know, in a sense, you know, if I can go back and re-sing a part, it's like, okay, I don't have to have this out by tomorrow. It's, you we have time to do it, but yeah, it's, I mean, nine months. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (10:00.669) At from his first inception or first idea, you know? Ryan (10:03.106) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (10:03.661) Yeah, I mean you guys and I've said it before, I these guys are writing machines. It's five albums in five years. I mean you guys are hitting that cycle. I was actually just looking up, who was it? Sleeper from Fort Worth, one of my gateway bands because this week's episode, actually by the time this is out it'll be Ryan (10:21.868) Mm-hmm. Love them. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (10:21.931) Yeah Ryan Rayle (10:32.431) past. the 15th, March 15th episode kicks off with a song called Vices Like Vipers from Oh Sleeper. It was one of my first just like songs and they did an album in 2007, 2009, 2011 and that in that time frame that was normal. It was like write an album for a year and then go tour on it. Ryan (10:33.955) Mm-hmm. Ryan Rayle (10:57.485) and then you write for another year, then you go tour, then, you know, it's just every two years the label, like, we need a, you know, we need an album. I mean, yeah, and now, you know, you guys are crushing, you know, you guys are doubling that rate. You're one a year, you know. That's, mean, that is ridiculous. Where do you guys find the, I mean, you make the time to create, but does that ever interfere with something else? I mean, I mean, Ryan (11:02.718) Right. They're spitting it out. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (11:03.211) Keep going, yeah. Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (11:12.362) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (11:25.197) does it turn into a house of horrors when you're like, gotta track this, I gotta track this, babe. And she's like, you're always tracking fucking songs. And you're like, I know, but like, I gotta get this riff. And she's like, you never pay attention to me. He's okay. Ryan (11:27.918) Yeah Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (11:28.288) Hahaha Ryan (11:31.694) Hahaha Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (11:33.771) Luckily we both have very supportive households, I would say. Ryan (11:39.594) No. Ryan (11:43.534) Yeah, they knew what they were getting into, that's for sure. And we do, I feel like John and I both are really like, I don't wanna say automatic, but it's more like. Ryan Rayle (11:48.601) Like, you only love the music. Ryan (11:59.712) we we have things like ready to go like there's a guitar on the wall right like within like 30 seconds like if i have a riff in my head i can be recording that on my computer just like that and the way that we do it is where it's very easy that that you know that idea becomes the final guitar like if i played it good enough like on time and everything it could be the final like i never have to rerecord that again and so it's just you know kind of like a well-oiled machine john's process might be like a little bit different but Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (12:23.392) Yeah. Ryan (12:30.247) It's, yeah, we just kinda, we've got a system going and we've been working on it for years and years and it just plays into it, you know? And we talk a lot, so we're always talking, we're talking parts, you know, he'll call me and say that drum fill is dog shit and I'll be like, yeah, you're, yeah, no, it didn't get like that, it get like that. The most we'll do is like, maybe try something different, you know? Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (12:39.242) Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (12:45.067) So is that riff, bitch? Actually, it never does. That's the funny thing. It's like, I that's ever happened. Yeah, yeah, yeah. you know what's... Yeah. Ryan Rayle (12:54.393) Dumb Ryan Rayle (12:58.179) Man, am sampling that. Holy shit. So is this Riff, bitch? Like, dude, that is perfect. Perfect. Ryan (13:00.994) haha Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (13:06.463) You know what's funny, man? I think we both feel this way. We feel like we could do so much more. You know we have day jobs, but we feel like we could do so much more, which is insane to think about. Ryan (13:11.192) Yeah. Ryan (13:15.062) Yeah, like day jobs get in the way, especially mine. feels like we could probably do two albums a year if we didn't have all the, you know, I have no idea what lyrics would be about. I'd probably just go, I'd probably just like mumble and say random things, but. Ryan Rayle (13:15.092) yeah, they Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (13:23.709) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (13:24.493) Yeah, Lord. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (13:27.903) Yeah Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (13:31.955) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (13:32.719) I mean, that'll get you buying in black metal. mean, you know, it could work. I mean, you could just take the drunken country approach and just... I mean, whatever sells, But yeah, right? Yeah. It's good harmony getting there somewhere. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (13:36.313) Yeah, true. Very true. It'd be great. Ryan (13:36.483) them. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (13:41.451) That's it. Yep. nice little melody. Ryan (13:44.172) That's true. That's a good point. Ryan (13:48.717) Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (13:51.967) Dude, one thing we have got coming up, so we're gonna drop this fifth album, but we already have two songs set aside for post fifth album. So we're gonna do something we've never done. We're actually working with a producer. We've always wanted to, and we kind of got randomly approached by these folks, but they're called Atrium Audio. Grant McFarland, he's done some really bad ass shit. He's in the, I think they're in the, I forgot, Pennsylvania area, but he's done all the From Ash to the New records. He's done my favorite ERRA record, the ERRA self-titled one. And then he's actually, Ryan Rayle (14:18.037) Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (14:22.091) I think the mastermind behind Galactic Empire, you know what that is? That's the Star Wars metal band. They come to come and take it like once or every couple years. the stuff they've done is nuts, but we're actually, got a pre-production session with him April 21st, but like on a couple songs. So we're gonna try it. So again, our releasing schedule might actually slow down a little bit more because of doing stuff like that. So we're pretty pumped. Ryan (14:28.312) They're incredible. Ryan Rayle (14:30.009) wow, okay. Ryan Rayle (14:36.675) Wow. Ryan Rayle (14:45.091) That's how did how did that come to pass? Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (14:47.743) Dude, they had just hired this guy that basically was like lead generation for them. His name was Carl and he sent this amazing email that actually caught my attention. think the subject was like, he was talking about our song Dark Angel and the subject title was like, Holy Guacamole, Dark Angel or something. And then I was like, all right, I'm reading this for sure. Yeah, and anyways, we exchanged a bunch of emails and then finally connected us with Grant. I think it's Grant and his... Ryan Rayle (14:56.003) Fucking Carl. Ryan (15:02.958) Touche my friend, touche. Yeah, we're in. Ryan Rayle (15:03.599) Hahaha! You're like, I'm going to spend at least 30 seconds looking at this email. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (15:17.109) producing partner's name is Carson and dude, I'll send you some stuff, but they've been in the game for a while. But then we had a Zoom session with Grant. He was awesome. And just kind of exactly what we've been wanting to do for a while. So we're going to give it a shot with a couple of songs. Ryan Rayle (15:31.523) And you guys are doing this all solo. No band manager, no nothing, right? All DIY. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (15:35.455) Mm-mm. Yeah. Ryan (15:36.306) No. Yeah, no. We're kind of control freaks in that way, you know. But we've also had, you know. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (15:41.195) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (15:41.615) Hahaha. Ryan (15:45.72) We've networked and we have a lot of friends. John's got tons of connections and we've been on phone calls with certain individuals that are like, you guys got it good, you don't have a label owning your stuff, like you're kind of free to do whatever you want and you know, like it's kind of like the world's in your hands, what are you gonna do with it? So we kind of feel that way. Ryan Rayle (15:57.487) Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (16:04.244) Dude, yeah. Yeah, a couple of quick shout outs. Johnny from the Browning has always been really good to us. He's super knowledgeable. Dude, Drew Walker from Fire from the Gods. Such a sweetheart. We've learned a bunch from him. And the Clayton King obviously is just a really good friend of ours. those three, just yeah, been really good to us and some others too. Ryan (16:09.078) Yep. Ryan Rayle (16:11.8) Of course. Ryan (16:16.942) Mm-hmm. Ryan Rayle (16:19.535) Oddly enough, I had a dream where So It Begins was playing and I needed, I was like, I need to go see, I need to go see them play. Like I can't, I just remember that was the, that was the feat in the dream. I don't know. Clayton, I love you. No, this, it was just recent, with the past couple days, I just remember, I was like, why the fuck am I dreaming about So It Begins? Ryan (16:36.974) Hmm Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (16:37.738) Have you told anyone this yet? Are we the first to hear this? That's awesome. Ryan (16:45.208) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (16:47.791) Are they coming back? Clayton, you guys coming back? You're doing... I'll host the show. I'll throw the show. I got a venue for you. I've got a couple of them. Ryan (16:50.222) All right. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (16:51.562) I saw it in a dream. Ryan (16:57.282) Dude, Clayton's the ultimate hype man. Like when we're shooting videos with him, he's like, I've got some behind the scenes stuff and I'm sure we'll like comp something right before the album or right after the album comes out. he'll be filming us, he'll be like, hell yeah, hell yeah, fuck yeah. You know, he's like, it's so awesome. He's like, keep it up, keep it up. Yeah, it's awesome. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (16:57.514) Dude. Oh, man. Ryan Rayle (16:59.842) Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (17:14.098) Yeah, dude, he gets more winded than us. Sometimes some takes. Yeah, he'll be more winded than us. It's the best. It's just... Ryan Rayle (17:21.071) I mean, at the end of the day, he's trying to create a good product for you guys. And that's his name on it. Plus, he also has this style. You can tell different cinematographers and guys creating the music videos. have the push in, twist, shake up, down, make it kind of blurry. then, personally, there's this one video that I shot at Come and Take It. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (17:28.67) for sure. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (17:32.84) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (17:51.28) Oddly enough, I didn't have a lens and I stopped at three pawn shops on the way down to try and get a 50 mil. The guys, the photographer before me was like, you need a 50 mil lens, bro. You need a 50 mil. So was like, I gotta get a 50 mil. So oddly enough, the last place I stopped at had a 50 mil, grabbed it and I shot after the burial and the plot and the plot in you. And every now and again, these videos will... Ryan (18:02.818) You Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (18:06.441) guys. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (18:12.869) Sick. Ryan (18:13.519) badass. Ryan Rayle (18:17.997) like somebody finds it on my Facebook and shares it and they're like, somebody has shared the plot in you. I'm like, that's fucking like years and years ago. How is this thing still making the cycle? But to my point, what I'm getting is like the style, like with the 50 mil, it was a manual. So it has like this soft haze and it finally comes into focus and as they move, they get out of focus. So you kind of like, like you got to keep up. you're in the, you're in, you know, I was upfront. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (18:26.451) Yeah. Ryan (18:28.504) That's awesome though. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (18:29.044) That's amazing. Ryan Rayle (18:47.043) the whole time. And I was trying to, you know, have that blurred beaucoup as they call it. But yeah, like Clayton's style was really, really fun, especially with you guys. And the fact that you guys work so well together, it's it's almost like if he does this, you know, to go over here because he has to get this angle or something like that. Right. So, anywho, I think that's I think it's great that you guys have literally so much content coming out that it's like Ryan (18:53.953) Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (19:05.598) Yeah. 100%. Yep. Ryan (19:08.284) yeah. Ryan Rayle (19:17.027) Well, we've got this fifth one and then we got two more on the side and we got this other thing over here where other bands are like, yeah, we've got one song coming out in three months. And there's nothing wrong with that, right? There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's just that you guys are freaking machines and it just oozes out of you. So what... Ryan (19:20.088) Yeah Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (19:20.851) Ha! Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (19:26.374) No, nothing at all. Ryan (19:35.598) I'm sure a manager would be like, if we had a manager, they'd be like, hey, y'all need to hold back a little bit. But I think John and I think the exact opposite. like, I think we want people to notice, okay, they don't have a shortage of ideas. They're just gonna keep going. So yeah, that's kind of the way we wanted to run things. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (19:38.346) Slow down, dumbasses. Ryan Rayle (19:39.151) Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (19:43.561) Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (19:56.445) we're gonna do an Ozzy EP too, We wanna do like a three song Ozzy EP. We're both huge Ozzy fans, so we wanna do at least a song, but like, we can't decide on what song, so we're like, let's maybe do three. We'll like one of each. Slightly newer, older, and ballad, so we'll probably do something like that too. Ryan Rayle (19:58.16) I mean, and you. Ryan Rayle (20:03.438) Okay. Ryan Rayle (20:09.815) yeah, yeah. Kind of go around the Aussie spectrum and just pick, you don't have to settle on just one. I mean, I think that's great. Would you add that as just kind of just one offs or put that maybe in a bundle? Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (20:17.566) Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (20:21.364) Exactly. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (20:26.92) We were talking about if we did just one song maybe on the album, but I think we just wanted to do a separate EP on our own and just have fun with it and just a tribute to one of our favorite artists. Ryan Rayle (20:35.513) Dude. Dude, yeah, you could do like this where they hide songs on vinyls. It's like the bonus track. I don't know. Yeah. You guys got any vinyls? I feel crazy for not knowing. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (20:43.196) Yeah, yeah, Yep. That'd be sick. Love that. No, every album cycle, I always look into it and it's expensive. I I think it's like minimum two grand, like to get like 50 or a hundred, but like I'm a huge vinyl fan and collector. So selfishly, I want to get an LDC vinyl. Ryan (20:49.605) No Ryan Rayle (21:01.123) Dude, if it's, if it's two grand, you sell a hundred at 20 bucks. There's your two grand back. I mean, that's, that's dude. Rips some, I mean, but I mean, I've got Lord, how many ever, I mean, that is, that is the item that I gravitate towards. And, I don't know if you guys, I always, I always try to pick up. Yeah. Try and pick up drum heads. Yeah. This one's from half me. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (21:06.29) There we go. Ryan Hegefeld, guess we're vinyls this time. I love vinyls. Ryan (21:07.214) That's a point. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (21:25.988) drum heads, yeah, dude. Sick. Hell yeah. Ryan (21:27.342) Come on, let's go. Ryan Rayle (21:30.255) They are not from United States, but I've got them all up here. There's a stack of them back there. Just stuff like that. Like I understand that, you know, I'm probably going to start buying CDs again because through my journey of the Texas Takeover, I have a lot like this is just four CDs and this one. This one is a demo. See if I can get it in there. Focus! Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (21:34.816) that's rad. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (21:48.423) nice. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (21:53.196) that's yeah, yeah. that's awesome. Ryan (21:54.168) Like was that, like a burnt, like a burned CD? Yeah. Ryan Rayle (21:57.005) Yeah. Yeah. Ryan (22:00.002) That's awesome. Ryan Rayle (22:00.378) So it's a CDR, yeah, it's a burned disc, but, ha, conveniently, automobiles, laptops stop coming with CD players. So I have to go get an external CD drive to burn all of these, or at least to rip them into my iTunes or our music library. Because there's some really good stuff here. Like there's some really good stuff. Like even from this one. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (22:11.272) Yep. External, right? Ryan Rayle (22:26.799) I if you knew this, but Anthony from Come and Take It was in this band, Killing an Apathy. used to be the Or used to be. It still is. Sorry. Either way. It's kind of hit or miss. It's one of those like, they'll come out of the woodwork once, twice a year. They are getting up there in age. yeah, I know, man. Ugh. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (22:31.048) No way. hell yeah. That's awesome. or they're just not active anymore. Ryan (22:51.96) We all. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (22:53.642) Man, I would love to see Anthony play drums. Ryan Rayle (22:55.757) Dude, he gets after it. And whenever we're backstage or up in the bird's nest looking down, whenever a drummer is just going the fuck off, Anthony just has this smile on his face like, yeah, I would do that, I would do that, I would do this. Yeah, so he's still got it. But he doesn't get as much practice as he says he wants to. Anywho, well. Ryan (23:05.602) Mm-hmm. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (23:07.077) haha That's amazing. I love that. Ryan (23:10.549) that's awesome. Ryan (23:17.208) Mm-hmm. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (23:17.322) That's fair, that's fair. Ryan Rayle (23:20.085) So any other pertinent items? We got the music video releasing on Friday the 20th. We have got the song debuting on the Texas Takeover on the 22nd on No Control Radio. And we've got a fifth album. And you guys touring? What are we doing this year? Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (23:37.515) Dude, we got shows. we haven't played a show yet this year, but we got a lot coming up starting on March 27th. We're opening for Dry Kill Logic, getting to play with our friends in Ariel, too. And then, dude, we're finally playing with Bridges of Blaze. Actually, that one's at Farout Lounge. When is that one? April 13th, I believe. Yeah, which we never, we're trying to check off some boxes. We're playing there. I already told you about Hanover's in May. Ryan (23:38.828) Yeah we got some shows. Ryan Rayle (23:45.807) Okay. Yeah. Ryan Rayle (23:54.688) far out. All right. Ryan (23:55.64) Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (24:02.116) That's with Kilter. And then, do our opening for Filter at Come and Take It on that Monday, April 27th. So stoked on that. So we're going from no shows to a lot pretty quick. But do the Filter one. It's kind of the bucket list for me because Little Nicky's my favorite movie of all time. And the scene when he goes to heaven is like their most famous song. Yeah, yeah. So check that box. Ryan Rayle (24:06.137) What? Good God. Ryan (24:09.484) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (24:18.573) Okay. Ryan Rayle (24:22.127) Their song, yep. Well, that's good, man. That's good. Ryan, what about you? Ryan (24:29.45) I'm excited for John. He's yeah. I mean, I'll be there, but no, I always see. I was here, John talking about Little Nicky. And so and when we were getting like the filter show, like I wouldn't think anything of it, you know, badass band, obviously. But then like he yeah, he's talked about that a couple of times now. And I'm just I'm super stoked for him, you know. So back, let's see back in. I forget what it was. Ryan Rayle (24:31.417) Ha Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (24:33.25) I thought you were gonna be yeah, I'm gonna be at the shows. Ryan Rayle (24:38.841) Ha Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (24:49.278) Yeah, yeah. Ryan (24:58.67) 2017 or something like that. got to play with or we got to play with Fuel, which is like my, I don't know, like probably my most favorite band of all time. So that was cool. So. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (25:08.296) It was them and Marcy Playground in Harker Heights. We opened for both of them. And then in the same summer, opened for Hinder at the same venue. It's a venue that's not there anymore. Or they would do these big stages in the parking lot of a smaller bar. But the promoter dude just moved, so they just stopped doing them. But it was a fun summer. Ryan Rayle (25:08.468) wow. Ryan Rayle (25:12.217) Nice. Ryan (25:15.458) Yep. Ryan Rayle (25:16.131) yeah. Ryan (25:24.692) Yeah. Yeah. Ryan Rayle (25:25.039) Yeah, you guys, you guys have this, you guys are very well placed in the sound space, right? You have, you can be played at a local dive bar. You guys can play, you know, at a metal show. You guys like very versatile. And you have like a lot of radio friendly songs. So I'd imagine that, you know, once you guys start gigging, somebody's going to notice you guys. Like I know, like I told Colorblind this. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (25:34.058) Thank you. Ryan Rayle (25:54.8) Like maybe a year before they took off it was that come and take it and I told him I was like dude Next year's your year. Like you're gonna I'd like I feel that for you guys. There's a couple other bands that I have like personal feelings towards it that I Mean I really hate saying this I really get put in a fucking weird position Especially whenever I show favoritism towards a certain band, right? Like you guys you guys are probably one of the most interviewed bands on the podcast like full stop But that's because you guys keep coming back. Like that's what this platform is here for. This isn't Ryan's fucking hangout. It kinda is. But at the same time, this is a platform for any band, regardless of how good you think your music is. It's for you guys. I want everybody to know that the inbox is always open. I don't get to everybody and that's like, I kinda feel bad about that. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (26:23.882) Yeah. Ryan (26:25.656) Right. Ryan (26:30.969) You Ryan Rayle (26:52.643) But in the scheme of things, talking about you guys making it like your music is good. Like you guys are very, very talented. I wish that you guys had like, I don't know what, what does making it look like for you guys? I think that's going to be the question of the year because not every band wants to be fucking Metallica famous, right? Not every band wants to be on the road touring. They just, maybe they want to be local famous, right? And that's fine. Ryan (26:58.392) Thanks, man. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (26:59.05) Thank you. Ryan (27:17.421) Right. Ryan Rayle (27:22.487) I really think if you have like that idea set aside, like what is the long-term goal? Like, we're going to rip fucking arenas. Like, OK, we'll put in the work, right? Put in the work. But if there's any way that we can help make you Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Arizona famous, like, cool, let's do that. Let's start small and grow. What is making it for Lift the Curse look like? Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (27:29.002) Yeah. Ryan (27:40.962) Yeah. Ryan (27:46.254) Man, I'll go first John and then I'll let you finish. I'll let, John. Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (27:49.33) Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're cooking in here. it's wonderful question, Ryan. I love it. Yeah. Ryan Rayle (27:50.252) I know that is a loaded question. Take it in steps. maybe what is making it look, what is making it for 2026 look like? It doesn't have to be the end all. But I mean, if you have a big plan, you know. Ryan (28:06.21) I think John and I don't have any big end goals. There's not like one day when we do this, we're gonna look at each other and be like, we did it, we made it, that kind of deal. I think we're more or less just still two kids that love music that are like, let's see how far we can go. Let's see how far it does go. And make moves along the way and try not to compromise our dreams. What about you, John? Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (28:36.074) This line is gonna stick with me now. We just want to rip fucking arenas. That was so well said. we would like to do that. That'd be cool. no, truly, truly it's I've said this corny line before, but like if this is as good as it gets, then we're good. Like we just love what we're doing. Just we want to do more of it and just play for more people, get our music out there to more ears, eyes, all that stuff like most bands. But it's not like a defined, you know, we both love our home lives too. So we don't want to be touring. Ryan (28:38.348) Yeah. Yeah. Ryan Rayle (28:40.189) Yeah! Ryan (28:47.062) yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (29:04.746) you know, 300 days in a year. like, I think when we do start touring touring, we'll be like very creative with how we do it, I think. I'm excited for that part. But yeah, we just want to get our music out there because we truly believe in it and comes from a really pure place. we, yeah, like you said, we clearly just love writing songs. clearly. Ryan (29:23.234) Yeah, and it sounds super cliche and cheesy, but we do think most of our songs have a positive spin on them, and hopefully that can affect other people for good. We have sad songs too, but we're trying to be as uplifting and stuff as possible. so, yeah, hopefully we also change some lives along the way. Yeah, lifting curses. Ryan Rayle (29:23.503) Clearly. Ryan Rayle (29:49.208) in the fucking name, lift the curse. yeah. Well, fellas, I appreciate and thanks for that. I've always been curious, you know, what is a question that you could ask a band that you will always get a different answer for? And I think asking that of, you know, what does making it look like almost forces the band to kind of take a step out and be like, actually, fuck, what is, you know? Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (29:49.224) Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Ryan (29:53.816) Yep. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (30:06.377) Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (30:16.778) Mm-hmm. Ryan Rayle (30:17.805) And if that's at that point in time, you're like, I don't know. don't like, you like we talked earlier, like our jobs get in the way of this, like 1000 % if I could, if I could interview a band every day and then curate a playlist, like if I could just do this, right. And I don't have to make killer money. I'm, you know, 75K. If anybody's out there listening, they want to hire somebody like me to do this, there's my price. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (30:21.098) It's okay. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (30:38.014) Mm-hmm. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (30:47.114) You heard the man. Ryan (30:47.214) Yeah Ryan Rayle (30:49.443) You never know, right? You never know. There's gonna be one guy watching this down the road that's like, that's actually not a bet. We're actually looking for a DJ. And that was the price. man. But yeah, making it for me looks like, you know, success for you guys as well. And that goes for everybody, right? Everybody that comes on the show definitely is a part of the family and doing this, you know, whatever we can to kind of, you know, raise everybody up. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (30:54.907) Dude, if you hadn't have said that, you'd never know. Ryan (30:55.284) You know what? Yeah, where's my checkbook? Where's my checkbook? Yeah. Yeah. Ryan (31:10.028) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (31:19.417) Around us. That's how we you know, that's how we win guys. It's all about this Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (31:21.48) Yeah. Ryan, you said something on your radio show, Ryan, that really made me happy and thankful, but you literally said, man, I might start my own record label just so I can scoop these guys up. That was awesome. Ryan (31:22.839) Men. Ryan (31:32.107) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (31:32.131) Yeah, I mean, you know, again, I get I catch a little heat sometimes for the things I like. I'm not out there in the streets, you flamethrowing like to say in some really bad shit. It's just, you know, they're like, well, why? Why do you say that about them and not us? It's like, well, because their music is fucking better than yours. I'm sorry. You do have ugly babies. No. Ryan (31:48.462) You Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (31:48.49) man. Ryan (31:51.342) Dude, Ryan, John and I definitely want to say obviously thank you for having us on, it's awesome to see someone that's not in a band be an ambassador for the local scene and the music and all that. from all the musicians around Austin and the surrounding areas, thank you for what you do. Ryan Rayle (31:58.65) Yeah, dude. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (31:59.275) course. Ryan Rayle (32:07.695) Mmm. Ryan Rayle (32:14.447) Oh yeah, yeah, think, yeah, no worries, man. And kind of bouncing off of that, a guy, Patrick from Cultburner, he said as well, he said that he had met, I believe it was Brent, the guitarist, he came to visit and he said, well, let me be, let me be like your ambassador to Austin. I'm going to be the ambassador to Austin. I'm going take you around. I'm going to show you all the cool spots to see, you know, if you want to move here. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (32:16.074) 1000 % Ryan, thank you. Ryan (32:42.179) Yeah. Ryan Rayle (32:43.961) Here's all cool places to go. Here's all the not cool places to go. he so yeah, I appreciate that. I really I really do try to be, you know, for the people. Right. And because, yeah, appreciate it. well, enough of I love you, too. Man, I love I love all you. love all you. I am going to try and go take a nap. I'm into naps these days. I don't remember. Ryan (32:50.114) Amen. Ryan (32:54.882) Yep. It shows. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (32:57.918) so genuine too man and everything you do so we love you. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (33:09.332) Do it. Dude, naps rule. Ryan Rayle (33:11.951) Do guys remember when you were in kindergarten and like they made us take a nap? Like you were forced to go to sleep. Why did why did they get rid of that? Ryan (33:15.596) Yep. And you were like, no! Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (33:16.104) Yeah, yep Where did that go? Why don't jobs do that? Well, here's your nap corner. Ryan (33:20.323) time. Ryan Rayle (33:27.759) man. But yeah, I'm in my napping phase. I don't know when it's going to be over, I end these scenarios and just let the software take over, and then I go downstairs, and it's just like, doof, I'm out for hours. Ryan (33:40.47) Yeah. Yeah. Dude, they should make, they should make like, especially like in cities, like, like nap pods, like a place where you can go, like you're on your lunch break, right? You get an hour for lunch. It's like, okay, you're to come take a nap. And then, right, you're going to come take a nap. We'll wake you up and we have a sack lunch for you on your way back to work. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (33:43.029) that sounds wonderful. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (33:49.578) Mm-hmm. Ryan Rayle (33:50.383) my goodness. Hold on, does this exist? Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (33:57.545) would guess it does in system capacity. Ryan Rayle (34:03.317) shit, the brown bag with the apple and the cheese sandwich in the Ziploc bag? Yeah. The little milk carton, right? Yeah. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (34:04.202) Yeah. Yeah, maybe a little chocolate chip cookie. Yeah. Ryan (34:12.45) Dude, dude, like, you could have like a membership plan and you just come take a nap every day and then go back to work. Yeah. Ryan Rayle (34:19.567) Motherfucker pay in to take naps. That's where we're at. Yeah, just, you know, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap to nap, tap to nap. Hashtag team in the circle. That's ours, boys. Tap, tap to nap. Oh, God. Maybe that'll be the next album. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (34:21.276) You could do one-offs, you could swipe your card. They'll be like the little, you know, Apple pay, whatever. Ryan (34:24.909) Yeah. Ryan (34:29.048) Captain Nap. There it is. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (34:31.506) my god. my god. See, we're out of words. There we go. Write that down. Yeah, okay. Sounds good. Ryan (34:37.166) There we go, tap to nap. Got it. Ryan Rayle (34:44.463) Oh man. Alright, well thanks again. I'm gonna stick around, let it finish doing what it's got to do. But again, for everybody, thank you very much. My name is Ryan. This is John and the other Ryan with Lift the Curse. Music video's out on Friday and then the debut audio on the radio for Sunday. Sunday's on No Control Radio. You can catch it on the iHeart Radio app or tune in or you can just go to Google and type in No Control Radio Listen Now and it'll take you to the link. And yeah, if you're here in Austin, 93.7 HD2 on your HD settings, you like most car, most people are like, I didn't know we have HD radios. Like I have a 2015 and it's had it, you know, so it's been, it's at least 11 year old technology. But other than that, you can go to YouTube and catch out their music video, give it a like, give it a share, tell them that it sucks. It's just, it's all algorithmic. You know, it likes, it likes angsty stuff. Yeah, exactly. Just be like. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (35:25.578) interesting. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (35:36.318) Yeah, whatever. Feedback's feedback. Ryan (35:38.254) We're open. Ryan Rayle (35:42.563) You look like shit, John. Music's great. Just... Yeah, terrible shirt, amazing riff. I love you. Jon Yadon Jr. (Lift The Curse) (35:43.69) Yeah, terrible shirt, don't wear it on a date night. I'll take that every day. Ryan (35:44.014) You Yeah you Ryan Rayle (35:53.424) Alright guys, well appreciate it and I'll see you guys soon Ryan (35:56.486) Thanks, Ryan.
