- 0:00Aloha. Saturday morning. Tropical Storm Moke is passing south of the islands, bringing dangerous winds and heavy rain to the Big Island. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today.
- 1:44Strong, gusty winds are picking up statewide right now and will stay dangerous through Sunday evening. The Big Island is getting hit hardest with heavy rain overnight through Monday afternoon. Windward and southeastern slopes could see 5 to 10 inches, locally up to 15 inches. Flash flooding is a real risk because the ground is already wet from recent rain. Other islands will see showers and a few inches, but nothing like the Big Island. Stay off exposed roads and passes.
- 2:08The water is not safe this weekend. Nearshore and coastal waters are under Small Craft Advisories through Sunday afternoon—seas near 10 feet on the Big Island's east side. Oʻahu's south shore is running 4.3 feet with moderate conditions and shore break. Kauaʻi is at 4.1 feet. Maui and the smaller islands are calmer. Watch-from-shore conditions statewide.
- 2:25Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island closed yesterday ahead of the storm. Kīlauea remains at advisory level, and volcanic ash is a concern. Check the park's site before heading that way—conditions will keep changing through Monday.
- 2:38If you're thinking ahead to December, our holiday guides are landing now. We've covered rental cars—peak season gets tight, so booking early with a refundable rate gives you flexibility. We've also put together pieces on Honolulu City Lights and the Waikīkī Holiday Parade if those events are on your radar. Planning holiday travel is smart to do now rather than waiting until October.
- 2:57By Wednesday, typical trade wind weather returns and conditions normalize through the rest of the week.
- 3:02Our holiday rental guide is on the site. Stay safe this weekend.
