- 0:00Welcome back to a hamster with a blumping knife, on tour with
- 0:06with the lads and who do I have with me here today?
- 0:10It is me, Dylan from too hot for TVI.
- 0:13Also have. Luke Malloy the podcast Hoe.
- 0:17And. I'm Mark Rawr.
- 0:21XXX. Well, hello fellas.
- 0:24Are you having a nice weekend? It's been fabulous, yeah.
- 0:27What we've been up to. We've been to Oldbourne, we've
- 0:30been to East Hagbourne, we've been to many a Doctor Who Rd.
- 0:35We've just been on tour, #lads on tour.
- 0:38Dylan, I'm going to ask you a question.
- 0:39I've got a feeling that you were more impressed with E Hagbourne
- 0:42than you were with Oldbourne. Yeah, I mean, Oldbourne's a bit
- 0:44of old hat, isn't it? But East?
- 0:47East Hagbourne. Delicious roasts.
- 0:49Lovely vibes. It's beautiful.
- 0:51The other place is just a bunch of cottages and a couple of pubs
- 0:54in it. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 0:57And what's been your favorite? Well, Oldbourne was great
- 1:00because I've never been there before and to see Miss
- 1:04Hawthorne's house from the White Witch of Devil's End was just,
- 1:09oh, just amazing. Will you do me a favour please
- 1:11and recount the the first night we were there before Dylan and
- 1:14Luke turned up and the scary thing that happened in the
- 1:17hotel. Well, it was possibly haunted
- 1:19because in the middle of the night both our phones went
- 1:22missing and we couldn't find it. And it was a very scary moment.
- 1:25We thought the villagers had broken into the room and stolen
- 1:28our phones. And I said we're completely cut
- 1:33off from everyone. We thought it was a Wicker Man
- 1:37situation. But it was fine.
- 1:38In the end, we found our phones. Yeah, there.
- 1:40One mom was under the mattress and yours was.
- 1:43It just falling into my bag. The ghost, The ghost of old
- 1:48born. Now I feel the most exciting of
- 1:50all of us today has been Luke Malloy.
- 1:53Can you please take us through your itinerary and sort of how
- 1:56how long that took to create? Oh.
- 1:58Yeah. So where did we start?
- 2:00We started on the airfield, the strip that Osgood and the Doctor
- 2:03have that little argument on. He goes reverse the Polanity Man
- 2:08and then we drove some old born roads.
- 2:10The jumper, we drove around the crossroads that is very iconic.
- 2:14From the beginning of the demons with a signpost spin drown we
- 2:17were there. That's been my highlight of the
- 2:18Tour, the cross where. We ended up in just a concrete
- 2:22strip and we wondered why we were.
- 2:25There it was from Planet of the Spiders where the helicopter
- 2:29when that chase is going on, we had a lot of that Where else was
- 2:32on that? There was two separate
- 2:34crossroads we got out for wasn't.
- 2:36And then we went to the Research Center from Android Invasion.
- 2:39No. It's space control.
- 2:40Yeah, yeah, we managed to park there and record a scene.
- 2:49Not sure if that will look good on the CCTV and then we came
- 2:52here and yeah, EE Hagbourne is much nicer village, yeah.
- 2:56Where are we right now? We're sat on the War Memorial
- 2:59Cross thing in the center of the Is it a War Memorial?
- 3:02That's what it usually looks a bit old to be from the war,
- 3:04doesn't it? We're sat in the middle of the
- 3:06road essentially on the big stone thing that Tom Baker gets
- 3:09tied up to, and also Nick Briggs has been tied up to this and Tom
- 3:13Baker's myth makers and Sergeant Benton patrolled all around him.
- 3:17What was highly amusing was earlier when we're taking our
- 3:19pictures on here, no bugger was around the second Dylan started
- 3:23doing stick run impressions. There were three cars, a load of
- 3:27runners and they don't walk past us sort of with a knowing smile
- 3:35on it. Faces have to say Doctor Who
- 3:37fans, Well, I've got some questions prepared.
- 3:42Village themed Doctor Who questions.
- 3:45So first of all, we're going to go quick under a round Robin of
- 3:48your opinion on the demons itself.
- 3:50We're all born where we started, Mark.
- 3:52Oh well. It's a classic for a reason,
- 3:54isn't it? It's got your unit family at
- 3:57their height. You can't beat it, really, can
- 4:00you? Miss Hawthorne.
- 4:01Miss Hawthorne, of course. I'm going to go over to what is
- 4:04going to possibly be a different opinion.
- 4:06No, I I I understand all the reasons why people love the
- 4:09demons. I think it suffers from a bit of
- 4:11overexposure and I've just seen it too many times and it was
- 4:14just always the legendary story when I was a kid.
- 4:16Having said that, it is. It's that's quintessential
- 4:20Doctor Who thing, isn't it? It's just, it's when you were
- 4:22think of the small village Dr. Who story, you think of that.
- 4:25So I don't love it, but I respect the fuck out of it.
- 4:29Good answer Luke Malloy I. Love the Demons.
- 4:33It's always been a brilliant story.
- 4:35It's not one that you change your opinion on, really, it just
- 4:38is great and they all take it so seriously and that's what make
- 4:41the comedy work. And the part way here they all
- 4:44take it so seriously. No one's mentioned that we've
- 4:46been at the Hump yet, but my favorite bit of the Demons is
- 4:49the Bart One cliffhanger where BBC Three all goes mental and
- 4:53we've. Spectacular.
- 4:54We recreated that yesterday, so that was also a highlight which.
- 4:58Everyone on. Twitter's already seen, yeah.
- 5:01Joe Ford took us up the hump. I did.
- 5:03It was a longer walk than we were expecting.
- 5:06It took a while. And so now let's turn our
- 5:09attention to the other all Born classic, The White Witch of
- 5:13Devil's End. Mark your opinions please.
- 5:17Well, it's probably the only sort of short film that it
- 5:21doesn't make any difference if your eyes are open or shut.
- 5:23You can enjoy it exactly the same way because it's very
- 5:27relaxing. It's Demorris Heyman doing a a
- 5:31lovely narration of her a nearly witchy stories.
- 5:34I I think it's really good. I really like it do.
- 5:37You know of all the DB VS Oh, sorry.
- 5:41It's not really good. That's it.
- 5:44It has an amazing theme song. It's just a strange beauty one
- 5:51way which we have. Also the incantations which
- 5:56every single episode of White, which I was just waiting for the
- 5:59end because the credits are the best bit.
- 6:01It's amazing. You seem to have a problem with
- 6:03the puppet episode I've got. Problem with all the episodes.
- 6:08They're all terrible. It's like sort of Jack and Orry
- 6:10for the over 70s. That's that's your vibe.
- 6:13You're going to love it. The funniest spirit is where
- 6:17poor Damaris Hayman is having to walk through the village and
- 6:20they're not happy with the shot, so she's got to go back again.
- 6:24The behind the scenes is a much better watch, painful watch, but
- 6:28much better watch. And for my thoughts on the White
- 6:32Witch of Devil's End, you'll you'll have to buy my book
- 6:35production. Assistant.
- 6:39You'll you'll have to buy my book coming from Telus
- 6:42Publishing later in the year about Real Time Pictures.
- 6:44Can I say though, I've watched plenty of BBV and these sort of
- 6:48dramas that they do and real time.
- 6:50No. All of them, like all these
- 6:51spinoffs where they've tried to create a drama on Sixpence and
- 6:56the the fact that they're just doing this sort of Jack and Nori
- 6:58style with POV shots, it's kind of working to the budget, which
- 7:03is refreshing, yeah. Absolutely, they're not.
- 7:05They're not trying anything that is completely outlandish and
- 7:09beyond their means. It's just like all classic
- 7:12Doctor Who dicking around in an English village.
- 7:14The only trouble is, is these actors they bring in to play
- 7:17these roles. The woman who played the Sycamus
- 7:19monster who comes out the the church and starts clawing at the
- 7:23air. Terrible.
- 7:24Bangs people to. Death.
- 7:26Yeah. What?
- 7:27What? What?
- 7:27So what was the one you made me do today?
- 7:29The the vampire one? Yeah, that's.
- 7:31The best one? There's no other way, yeah.
- 7:36Yeah, compared to all the other BBBS and stuff, it's actually
- 7:39one of the more memorable ones. So it's now because we've talked
- 7:43about so much, it's becoming a bit of a cult thing for me
- 7:46already that if I was to go back to one of them, it probably will
- 7:49be the White Witch. It's such a fun.
- 7:53Changed. He's changed it.
- 7:54Opens up to other possibilities. You could have Guy Crayford, the
- 7:59retired scientist of Deep Shim, recalling stories in East Tacon.
- 8:03That's what we need. Don't.
- 8:04We Well, that is a wonderful segue into our next location at
- 8:09the Android invasion mark. I know you've got strong
- 8:12opinions about this one this. Is one of my favorite stories my
- 8:15favorite of the season? It's so much fun.
- 8:18It's a bit lighter than everything else in the season,
- 8:21and again, you've got such a recognisable location.
- 8:24This, I mean, who doesn't want to be tied up to this thing?
- 8:28We knew exactly. Where we were, Yeah, you just
- 8:30know. I think it's one that gets a
- 8:33little bit unfairly maligned and while it's not perfect, as Mark
- 8:38says, it's a bit lighter in touch and it's actually in in
- 8:40that dark season, just a bit of a good old fun Doctor Who run
- 8:44around, but also with some nice moments.
- 8:46I think the crawls are great. I think the Sarah's face falling
- 8:50off is one of the great Doctor Who cliffhangers we.
- 8:53Didn't recreate that, did. We we didn't.
- 8:54I think if my main complaint is not the the eye patch or
- 8:58anything like that, it is the fact that UNIT are sorely
- 9:02underused in it, but because it's the last appearance.
- 9:04Avengers. Well, yeah, but John Levine and
- 9:07Harry's in it as well, right? And they're they're just so
- 9:09underused in it, it's a little bit disappointing.
- 9:12Luke Malloy. I'm with Mark.
- 9:14I think it's my favorite of the season.
- 9:16Favorite. Yeah, I think so.
- 9:18Yeah, it is Seed to do, Seed to Doom would be the other one.
- 9:21But I prefer this to Morbius and Pyramids, hands down.
- 9:24And it's the same sort of reasons that it's so iconic,
- 9:27this village and I've always wanted to come here.
- 9:29I'm so happy that I'm here. Will your hard on be a bit
- 9:32bigger now now you've been here? Yeah, I can't wait to watch it
- 9:35again. And the thing I really like
- 9:37about is Action Tom. I love it when we get the Doctor
- 9:40being an action hero and he just runs everywhere and he dashes
- 9:42out windows and he's, you know, being attacked by the finger
- 9:48things that. Was Can you hear?
- 9:51Me. Yeah.
- 9:51Love it. Love it.
- 9:52Love it. So we've been to three pubs on
- 9:56our little tour around locations and what I'd like you all to do
- 9:59now is rate them in order. So we've had the cloven hoof
- 10:02the. Crown the blue boar.
- 10:04The blue boar, Yes, Sorry. The blue boar.
- 10:06The crown. And now return.
- 10:08To Devil's End. Which we haven't talked about,
- 10:11we'll talk about. That we'll get there, yeah.
- 10:12And the Fleur de lis. So Mark, could you please put
- 10:16them in in ascending order? Gosh.
- 10:17Well, I I like the crown. I like the vibe of the crown.
- 10:22This isn't any order, by the way.
- 10:24That's where we stayed. That was possibly haunted.
- 10:26I'm not sure. But it was really nice.
- 10:27It did. Really nice.
- 10:28Breakfast didn't. Get no sleep there.
- 10:30Though, yeah, yeah, really nice breakfast.
- 10:32The blue ball. A bit quieter, a bit more empty,
- 10:36a bit less friendly. They got a nice little Doctor
- 10:39Who display at the back. And they made the most peculiar
- 10:43espresso martini That was three parts cream.
- 10:47And and they just had ATV showing BBC One's gladiators,
- 10:52which three people were watching, and.
- 10:53Getting really into. A good hour that I've never seen
- 10:56that in a pub before even. In the village, that's it.
- 10:59Never, ever seen that. Yeah, yeah, And fled to Lee.
- 11:01Although, no, wait, wait. Although the the blue board did
- 11:05have the Doctor Who section out the back, didn't it?
- 11:07Yeah. It did have a really nice
- 11:08tribute. They just have photos and
- 11:11paintings and murals and stuff of the demons and de
- 11:14moisturizing. Yeah, it was good.
- 11:15And back to the Fleur de Lis. Fleur de Lis are just as you see
- 11:19on screen in the Android Invasion, beautiful.
- 11:23And they they love the connection with Doctor Who.
- 11:26They've got some pictures up at the back, really nice food as
- 11:30well. Can I ask you had a good chips
- 11:32or roast dinner? Oh, they were both really good,
- 11:35actually. This is great.
- 11:37Oh, no. But the roast dinner here was
- 11:38really, really nice. Yeah.
- 11:40OK, Dylan. I think the Fleur de Lisa was my
- 11:43favorite to be honest. I mean, I know we didn't stay in
- 11:45out of all three. It's the one we were in the for
- 11:47the shortest amount of time it. Might have been part of the.
- 11:51Appeal But you know, there's limited choices in these tiny
- 11:54villages. But yeah, there was a weird vibe
- 11:57in the blue ball. But.
- 11:58The fella, Yeah. The woman.
- 12:00The woman at the bar who'd been smoking and drinking since she
- 12:02was 14 and. She she she said that we don't
- 12:06make Guinness like they do in Cyprus.
- 12:08She told me this in inextensive, deep there.
- 12:10Was also this weird sort of judgy attitude from the guy
- 12:14behind the bar. He's probably used to Doctor Who
- 12:16wankers coming in and being. Also was right there, weren't
- 12:19he? That woman could have been the
- 12:21little girl in the demons for all we know.
- 12:23We didn't ask. We didn't know we should.
- 12:24Have I don't have any regrets, but we we probably should have
- 12:28engaged in some with some old people and just asked them about
- 12:31the demons. Because we did in fact, see
- 12:33outside of our bedroom window one of the stars of the White
- 12:37Witch of Devils, ends the lady with the purple hair.
- 12:40What? Yeah, she walked past.
- 12:42Yes, She was just on her way to do her business in the village.
- 12:44Do a white witching. So sorry, back to the pubs.
- 12:47Flood to Lee. Blue ball.
- 12:49And the Crown? No.
- 12:50No, it's I actually think the blue boar is the is the third on
- 12:53the list. It may be historic and iconic,
- 12:55but actually it was the least. I mean it was great to be there
- 12:59with you guys, but there was no real vibe.
- 13:01There wasn't a lot going on. I think they cashed into the
- 13:03Doctor Who connected later, if I'm honest.
- 13:05Because if you looked at all their pictures, they're all from
- 13:07the 90s real time documentary return to Devil's End.
- 13:10Whereas the Fleur de Lis they they've got pictures of people
- 13:14you know when they were shooting the engine.
- 13:16Yeah, yeah, exactly. I'm not sure any of the bar
- 13:19staff know what Doctor Who is like, who are all about four
- 13:23years old and clearly had no idea what the Mecca for losers
- 13:28this place is. But when the convention arrives
- 13:31later this year, which I'll be at because I can't, I'm coming
- 13:34here twice in the year. When I talked about it as a
- 13:37Mecca for losers, I include myself in that.
- 13:41We're top of the list. Yeah, we'll see one.
- 13:43Another question, the Marissa burger or the roast dinner?
- 13:47I'm going to go for the roast dinner.
- 13:49It wasn't Nan Mark, and they're not Mark Donaldson.
- 13:52Ben Verth of On The Time Last said that it was the best roast
- 13:55dinner he's ever had. I enjoyed it, but I would say it
- 13:59was a middling roast dinner. You say that the dessert was
- 14:01sort of substandard. The dessert, I think you said
- 14:05you saw a delicious looking sundae, but actually it was some
- 14:10chocolate ice cream and some squirty cream it was.
- 14:13A little more. It don't take much to please me.
- 14:15That was not a sundae. I think that was off the kids
- 14:18menu, so I I really regret. The trickle sponge was lovely,
- 14:21yeah. I really regret that.
- 14:23But you know, Luke, the pubs. Yeah, well the Crown got off to
- 14:27a rocky start when they sent me to the wrong bedroom and.
- 14:31Nick Bridge was in. There trying to open the nick.
- 14:33Briggs in A. Towel trying to open and the
- 14:35door and an angry bold topless man came out.
- 14:39Was quite frightened and at which point I thought, oh God,
- 14:42I'm in a twin room I'm a sharing with this man he.
- 14:46Would sleep with us or you? They they quickly sorted that
- 14:49out and actually my room was very nice for a pub room and
- 14:53everything. It was actually really nice and
- 14:56I thought the vibe and there was good and the lunch, the tea and
- 14:59there was good not as. Good when I was.
- 15:00Doing karaoke? No, Later on there was a big
- 15:03birthday party in there and for me it was it was loud till about
- 15:07half two in the morning, so we didn't get much sleep.
- 15:09That was a downside, but you sort of got to take these
- 15:12things. And the guy, the guy forgot my
- 15:14sausage. He didn't give me, he didn't
- 15:16give me my sausage. Your breakfast.
- 15:17And I was not happy. That's not what you need in your
- 15:19cranky. You've had no sleep.
- 15:20You never forget Luke Malloy sausage.
- 15:23Exactly. Blue bark is only sort of second
- 15:25what everyone else has said. It was nice that we were all
- 15:28there. It's the first.
- 15:29It's the first moment I've met. All used was in that.
- 15:31Wasn't it was like playing our own version of Strictly and
- 15:35determinate the best seasoned Dr. and companion which were?
- 15:39It was Donna and Season 4, which is a bit of traffic, and Amy,
- 15:42Donna and Amy. And it was season four.
- 15:44So Rod, Rod can give up now, can't he?
- 15:47Yeah, we cracked it last night. We're down.
- 15:49An embarrassing part of the blue ball was when we walked out of
- 15:52the think at 9:00 thinking, right, that's it.
- 15:55We never have to go back, said goodbye to the man.
- 15:58Making creamy drink thinking I would never.
- 16:00Have to go back. Made a snide little comment on
- 16:02the way out and then, oh, I did. And then we got, we got into the
- 16:06crown. It was too busy and it's too
- 16:07loud, so we had to turn back and go back in for the next three
- 16:10hours. That was slightly impressed.
- 16:12Very muted pub crawl that really.
- 16:15And one you you don't need to stay more than a night.
- 16:21You can do it all quite quickly. The third Elise was lovely, the
- 16:27roasted. It was nice and I got a nice
- 16:29dessert on the mic. Yeah.
- 16:32You had a ginger beer. Oh yeah, and I didn't get ginger
- 16:36for a ginger beer, so that really made me though, yeah.
- 16:38That's just a standard request though.
- 16:40Really and. Yeah, because you did not.
- 16:41In that book you didn't do. It in a Tom Baker anyway, how?
- 16:44Do you? I didn't toddler for it.
- 16:46I said beer, not pop, which I think saved me.
- 16:50Right, fellas. So I'm now going to bring us
- 16:52around to Damos Rising. Damos Rising, Damos Rising,
- 16:55Mark. I haven't seen it for years and
- 16:58years and years, so I can't tell you very much apart from Beverly
- 17:00Crespens in it and I think she's a lovely lady.
- 17:03Oh, you're so fucking diplomatic.
- 17:05That's all I've got to say, Okay.
- 17:07Can I just get this? I've got nothing to say about
- 17:12it. It's boring.
- 17:12Okay. I think you believe it's well
- 17:15shot, Dylan. I think it's the best shot of
- 17:17the Doctor Who spin offs. It's got a really good DOP.
- 17:19I think the script is good. I think it's got the pitfalls of
- 17:22all low budget films. But yeah, it's seen Beverly
- 17:25Cressman as the original and best.
- 17:27Kate Stewart is always a pleasure.
- 17:31Oh, there you go. You heard it here first, folks.
- 17:33What did we not cover that we said we hadn't covered?
- 17:35We. Haven't covered Return to
- 17:36Devil's End, which is the Real Time documentary where it's shot
- 17:40in 92, where they bring Jon Purkley, Nick Courtney, Richard
- 17:43Franklin, John Levine and Christopher Barry back to
- 17:47Oldbourne and interview them about the making of the classic
- 17:51story of the Demons. John Levine keeps asking that
- 17:54Nicholas Courtney to repeat his famous like 3 rounds Raffi.
- 17:58At which point, every time Nicholas Courtney gets more and
- 18:01more irate until he finally snaps, he's like, let's fight
- 18:04Round Rapids. But it is just a it's wonderful
- 18:07to see all those guys together still in their relative prime.
- 18:11Just like getting the band back together, old mates, just
- 18:14chatting over the fun that they had making the show.
- 18:16It's a real gem of a documentary.
- 18:18It's the boys in In Old Born, which is exactly what this
- 18:22weekend has been. Is it true that the 2nd Pertwee
- 18:25shows up? That's it.
- 18:26It all coheres. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:28He brings the there's there's interviews and they're all just
- 18:31sort of having a good time in old Ball.
- 18:33Then Pertwee appears at the party starts and.
- 18:37So, so I'm sort of going to go around one last time and just
- 18:40ask what is the most egregious rumour that you've heard this
- 18:43weekend? As many have been flying around,
- 18:46I'm questioning till rest of Mccoy's sexuality.
- 18:49Mark. We cannot possibly go into
- 18:50anything because every Doctor and companion has been up to
- 18:53something dodgy, yeah. You've heard a rumour about next
- 18:59year's Christmas special. Yes, I mean that that.
- 19:01That's not a sexy rumour, though, is?
- 19:03It so it's kind of sexy if you like it's writing.
- 19:05Yeah, I mean, there's a rumour about the writer of the
- 19:07Christmas special next year. If it's true, I'm very happy.
- 19:09But I couldn't possibly comment on which doctors are secretly
- 19:13gay. Luke I can't though, can I?
- 19:17Because this does spread stuff, but pretty much every Doctor
- 19:21shag the companion is is pretty much the rumours that we
- 19:23discussed this weekend. You pick which Doctors and which
- 19:26companions, but they've all shagged.
- 19:27Not even. Going to say where the rumours
- 19:29have all come from, but they're all from One Direction.
- 19:33I got Devil's Bell End. I didn't bring up Katie Manning
- 19:36and the four doctors. Oh.
- 19:38That's true. Who brought that up, Mark?
- 19:42All conversation just stays in the pub this weekend.
- 19:45OK. Devil's devil, yeah.
- 19:48Our boys, we've got 20 minutes out of this.
- 19:51Well done. We'll finish us off with just
- 19:54saying, what's your happiest memory of this weekend we've had
- 19:57together? We didn't quite have the Audrey
- 19:59that we were expecting, but Mark.
- 20:03Yeah, just going around the locations, it's been great and
- 20:06just seeing everyone. My happiest memory of this is
- 20:08seeing Luke Malloy at the locations like a 12 year old kid
- 20:12running around. So excited.
- 20:15Mine is just laughing an awful lot about silly jokes, but only
- 20:19a handful of people in your life will ever guess.
- 20:22In fact, I've had more doctoral conversation this weekend.
- 20:25I mean, I talk about Doctor Who a lot, but not not over on a
- 20:29weekend, you know, for about 8 hours at a time.
- 20:31That's been wonderful. No it is the absolute opposite
- 20:33of normal life where you where you have normal conversations
- 20:37and try and weed the Doctor Who stuff out.
- 20:38It's been the opposite of being having Doctor Who conversations
- 20:40trying to weed the normal stuff out because it's just like oh
- 20:44I'm with Doctor Who people they understand what my language now
- 20:47I I always get a kick out and go to really stupid locations.
- 20:50So and it like the crossroads and the stream was was
- 20:55absolutely highlight the impression of.
- 20:57Boomer Bill screaming round the. Golder Oh no.
- 21:00It's just been great to to meet everyone.
- 21:02Well, can you sign off with a quote from the demons, please?
- 21:06Excuse me, Sir, Let me pass with the cock.
- 21:09No. Yes, Joe, just like that, Joe.
- 21:13Yes, yes. I hit him with my reticule the.
- 21:18Fines. Are there for the feed.
