- 0:25Speaker 1: Family Ties, which originally aired on Friday, January twelfth on
- 0:31Speaker 1: Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. Come hang out with us once
- 0:36Speaker 1: the podcast is over. You can find us on Instagram
- 0:39Speaker 1: in two places. Our Hamewark account is Girls Gone Hallmark
- 0:43Speaker 1: and our ladies' lifestyle account is at Megan and Wendy.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We have an awesome Facebook group too, It's called Girls
- 0:51Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark in Facebook groups. Come give us a join.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We've got a few new people over there over the
- 0:57Speaker 1: holiday season and after our our bracket that we did,
- 1:02Speaker 1: our tournament bracket. It's one of the best places on
- 1:05Speaker 1: the internet. It's a great group. It's a great group
- 1:09Speaker 1: if you're looking for like minded Hallmark viewers who like
- 1:14Speaker 1: talking about movies, who like talking about inside Baseball. You
- 1:18Speaker 1: know it's good. Did I use that right? You talk?
- 1:22Speaker 1: The people there are so nice, nice and smart and
- 1:27Speaker 1: come from like the most interesting backgrounds and like really
- 1:31Speaker 1: interested in other people. I just I really every day
- 1:36Speaker 1: I find something very interesting about that. A great so come.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I'm going to leave a link in our show notes,
- 1:41Speaker 1: but it's girls Gone Hallmark. You'll be able to find
- 1:43Speaker 1: it if you search on Facebook. Hey, not so nice.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Hallmark Media has announced a series of high level layoffs. Yeah,
- 1:52Speaker 1: the chief marketing officer, the chief people officer, the executive
- 1:56Speaker 1: vice president of research, and a head of distribute. All
- 2:00Speaker 1: four of those roles we're women. They're described as major cutbacks,
- 2:08Speaker 1: and they have said that their goal is to strengthen
- 2:13Speaker 1: their focus. The spokesperson says some executive roles were eliminated
- 2:19Speaker 1: wll new and expanded roles were created to forge new
- 2:23Speaker 1: opportunities that will strengthen our focus on our core and
- 2:28Speaker 1: build new capabilities for our consumers and viewers out with
- 2:33Speaker 1: the old apparently. So I'm going to share an analogy
- 2:36Speaker 1: that I shared on Reddit and it might give me
- 2:39Speaker 1: away on Reddit. I was talking to my husband about this,
- 2:42Speaker 1: because those four executives were hired by previous CEO, Janiel Lucas,
- 2:48Speaker 1: and of course she resigned last year sometime, and I
- 2:53Speaker 1: was telling him. He's like, look, he's like, it's not
- 2:55Speaker 1: that big of a deal. He's like, it's when a
- 2:57Speaker 1: like a coach gets fired, the four staff goes too.
- 3:01Speaker 1: This team goes too. And I imagine that those four
- 3:05Speaker 1: execs were probably kept on through countdown to Christmas, you know,
- 3:09Speaker 1: at the end of the year, and then I don't
- 3:12Speaker 1: think it was It probably was not a surprise to them. Yeah,
- 3:15Speaker 1: they's all the writing on the wall exactly. Anyway, the
- 3:19Speaker 1: clickbait title was like made it sound like sure dire
- 3:22Speaker 1: straits over there. I don't think that's the case. Just
- 3:25Speaker 1: a regime change exactly. And I know in our group
- 3:30Speaker 1: it was discussed about as well as on Reddit, like,
- 3:33Speaker 1: oh no, what's going to happen at Hallmark? They're not
- 3:36Speaker 1: going backwards, folks. I'm not worried. I'm not worried either,
- 3:39Speaker 1: not at all. I want to talk about our awesome
- 3:42Speaker 1: tournament bracket that we did so fun Instagram stories. All
- 3:46Speaker 1: the credit goes to Wendy on that one for acascitating.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I made a lot of errors, but I'm a human,
- 3:53Speaker 1: but I think in the end it was still fun.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And if you didn't know, A builtmore Christmas one for
- 3:59Speaker 1: Best Movie that is unsurprising, But were there any surprising
- 4:04Speaker 1: moments too? Surprising moments to me? Yes, Round and Round
- 4:08Speaker 1: went out fairly early. I thought, I wonder how many
- 4:13Speaker 1: people skipped that because of the Hank movie. They're like,
- 4:15Speaker 1: I'm not here for that, and then missed out on
- 4:17Speaker 1: a good movie. It has all the warmth of the
- 4:19Speaker 1: Christmas movies, just at a different holiday. Agree, And I
- 4:23Speaker 1: think it might be my favorite movie of the entire year.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Uh huh. It was just so good. Also, a big
- 4:30Speaker 1: surprise Mystic Christmas made it real far. Yes, I love
- 4:34Speaker 1: that movie too, but I think if people were surprised,
- 4:37Speaker 1: like how far I had it had gotten. Yeah, the
- 4:40Speaker 1: final two ended up being Santa Summit and Built Moore.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Santa Summit gave Builtmore a run, really did. I wasn't
- 4:47Speaker 1: a blowout, No, not at all. But I think you
- 4:50Speaker 1: have like your viewers who are like true romance fans,
- 4:53Speaker 1: and then you have viewers who are into comedy. Yes.
- 4:57Speaker 1: What I loved is that we had, like the writer
- 5:02Speaker 1: of Asanta Summit, like sharing our stuff. We had several
- 5:06Speaker 1: actors from the movies sharing and voting for you know.
- 5:10Speaker 1: It was just awesome to see. Maybe so happy that
- 5:14Speaker 1: was really fun. I love it. Every year I had
- 5:17Speaker 1: somebody message me They're like, oh, I'm so sad it's
- 5:19Speaker 1: over now, So I say stay tuned because when he's
- 5:23Speaker 1: got big ideas, we're dreaming up some other fun, fun
- 5:26Speaker 1: interactives for the listeners. Hey, speaking of fun stuff, let's
- 5:31Speaker 1: hear a synopsis of true justice Family Ties right. A
- 5:36Speaker 1: law school student and her friends set out to prove
- 5:39Speaker 1: her brother's innocence, but the only way to clear his
- 5:42Speaker 1: name is by finding the real killert Row. No, I
- 5:49Speaker 1: see what you did there. This movie was directed by
- 5:53Speaker 1: Jonathan Wright. He's no stranger to Hallmark, having directed A
- 5:56Speaker 1: Not So Royal Christmas from the twenty twenty three Countdown
- 6:00Speaker 1: to Christmas lineup. He also directed family History Mysteries Buried
- 6:04Speaker 1: Past last year, as well as The Royal Nanny and
- 6:06Speaker 1: Jolly Good Christmas in twenty twenty two. You know, Jonathan
- 6:12Speaker 1: Wright and I have DMed a little bit. He's very
- 6:16Speaker 1: nice and was like, please let me know if you
- 6:18Speaker 1: have any questions. I want to just share that he shared.
- 6:22Speaker 1: This is not like what's the word I'm looking for?
- 6:26Speaker 1: This is not like Secrets of the Trade. I don't know.
- 6:32Speaker 1: He had to cut a butcher in this movie, so
- 6:33Speaker 1: he was worried like for time, like he said like
- 6:37Speaker 1: twenty minutes out of it or something, so he was
- 6:39Speaker 1: worried that it was gonna be a little confusing. Keep
- 6:43Speaker 1: this in mind. He was worried he was gonna be
- 6:45Speaker 1: confusing because he had to cut so much for it.
- 6:49Speaker 1: This script was written by Nicki Deloche and her writing
- 6:52Speaker 1: partner Megan McNulty. Of course, we know Nicki de Looche
- 6:57Speaker 1: as an actress, right. She was in this movie for
- 7:01Speaker 1: like maybe five minutes. Maybe her scenes got cut, I
- 7:04Speaker 1: don't know. No laughing there, So I think I want
- 7:09Speaker 1: the comment about how long she was in it, and
- 7:11Speaker 1: we'll get into it. Okay, okay. She has only one
- 7:16Speaker 1: previous writing credit, which was Christmas four Keeps from twenty
- 7:20Speaker 1: twenty one, a movie I have not seen. No, I
- 7:25Speaker 1: don't even It's like not ringing even a single bell
- 7:28Speaker 1: for me. I wonder if twenty twenty one is correct.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Maybe my notes not wrong. Well, I'm sure it is.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I did read the synopsis for it, and I was like, oh,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I'm kind of interested in that. But the IMDb rating
- 7:41Speaker 1: was real low. And keep in mind twenty twenty one,
- 7:44Speaker 1: we probably did one Christmas movie a week out of
- 7:46Speaker 1: the fourties. Yeah, so true, true, her writing partner Meghan
- 7:50Speaker 1: McNulty is also a working actress who has appeared in
- 7:53Speaker 1: just one Hallmark movie, Taking the Reins from twenty twenty one,
- 7:57Speaker 1: I Like that movie, amongst a list of other project.
- 8:00Speaker 1: This is her fourth writing credit. She had previously written
- 8:03Speaker 1: Christmas for Keeps with Niki. Katherine McNamara plays Kasey Barlow.
- 8:08Speaker 1: We last saw Catherine in Love Classified from twenty twenty two.
- 8:13Speaker 1: She has seventy acting credits, including tons of episodes on
- 8:17Speaker 1: the following series Walker, Independence Arrow and Shadow Hunters. Her
- 8:21Speaker 1: resume is long and varied, and it's nice to see
- 8:23Speaker 1: her back on Hamark. Marky and trusiek plays Eli Flant
- 8:27Speaker 1: Something about a dude in a cardigan head loo Wowie zowie?
- 8:31Speaker 1: Am I wrong? You are not okay? We've seen Markan
- 8:35Speaker 1: in previous Hallmark projects like Welcome to Valentine, Christmas at
- 8:39Speaker 1: the Golden Dragon, Are Italian Christmas Memories, and Grab Your
- 8:42Speaker 1: Bingo Cards. He was also in two episodes of Virgin River.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Do you know I started Virgin River? And what is
- 8:50Speaker 1: your first impression? It's a little slow. It is. It's
- 8:54Speaker 1: a little slow. I don't hate it. It's a little slow. Though.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Marisa McIntyre plays Sarah. She's got Niki Deloucha's exact bangs
- 9:03Speaker 1: in fact, In fact, sometimes when they would show her,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I was like, is that Nikki or is that Sarah? Really?
- 9:11Speaker 1: You don't think they have the same banks. I think
- 9:14Speaker 1: they look Yes, they have the same kind of blunt bangs.
- 9:18Speaker 1: But Marissa has such a specific look to me. I
- 9:23Speaker 1: scoured her IMDb. I cannot figure out why she looks
- 9:27Speaker 1: familiar to me. And maybe it's the Niki deloche factor,
- 9:30Speaker 1: but there's something about her too, and like I know her,
- 9:32Speaker 1: and I don't know what I know her from. Well,
- 9:34Speaker 1: let me tell you. This is her second project for Hallmark,
- 9:38Speaker 1: having previously appeared in the movie Never Too Late to
- 9:42Speaker 1: Celebrate from twenty twenty two, another movie we did not watch. Yeah,
- 9:48Speaker 1: Sabrina Sawden plays PJ. Sabrina has just nine previous acting credits,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and this is her first role for Homer. Alexander Nuniez
- 9:57Speaker 1: plays private investigator friend Liam. This is his first project for Hallmark.
- 10:01Speaker 1: His previous twenty four acting credits include the CW series Moonshine,
- 10:06Speaker 1: as well as The Teacher and The hand Maid's Tale.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Nikki Deloache and Benjamin Ayers play supporting roles as Professor
- 10:14Speaker 1: Ambrose and da Quinn, respectively. People who loved the Cranberry
- 10:19Speaker 1: Christmas might love their reprising their on screen romance in
- 10:25Speaker 1: this movie. Did that surprise you when they were like,
- 10:28Speaker 1: got kissing? I'd like to discuss it. Okay. This movie
- 10:31Speaker 1: was initially called Exonerated and it was filmed entirely in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada,
- 10:37Speaker 1: in mid June twenty twenty three. And then they're like, hey, wait,
- 10:41Speaker 1: this could be a franchise. We need a franchise A
- 10:44Speaker 1: bolt her name. Absolutely. What was your first impression of
- 10:47Speaker 1: True Justice Family Dies? This movie ticked all of my
- 10:52Speaker 1: non Hallmark boxes. My first impression is none of this
- 10:56Speaker 1: is admissible in court. Wah wah. You're right though. Okay,
- 11:02Speaker 1: so let's dig into what we liked about True Justice
- 11:07Speaker 1: Family Test. One of the things I love most about
- 11:11Speaker 1: the mystery movies is the lack of a focus on romance.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Me too glows us to focus so much more on
- 11:18Speaker 1: the story, and I'll save more of that. But oh no, no,
- 11:24Speaker 1: not the story. Uh We're gonna get a romance. That's
- 11:27Speaker 1: just how it is. I know they're gonna have like
- 11:28Speaker 1: a slow burn. Yeah, but the story stands alone without
- 11:33Speaker 1: needing to build to a romantic final moment. I agree,
- 11:36Speaker 1: I agree, and I really appreciate that. I'm glad to
- 11:40Speaker 1: hear that some was cut. Oh, only because I feel
- 11:45Speaker 1: like we were rushing to get through all of the suspects. Okay, fair,
- 11:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna DM him now and find out, like what
- 11:53Speaker 1: was cut. I don't feel like they didn't tell the story.
- 11:59Speaker 1: But these movies are about eighty two minutes long. I
- 12:02Speaker 1: feel like with sometimes with the classic Hallmark movie, I'm
- 12:06Speaker 1: like that's plenty. With the mysteries, I'm like they could
- 12:10Speaker 1: they could use an extra twenty minute sometimes sure to
- 12:12Speaker 1: tell the story, to flesh it out. To tell a
- 12:14Speaker 1: full mystery in eighty two minutes is challenging, yes, But
- 12:20Speaker 1: the counter to that is this movie you had to
- 12:25Speaker 1: like introduce all these people and all this stuff and
- 12:29Speaker 1: all the backstory. So like, I feel like that takes
- 12:31Speaker 1: a big chunk out of it. Maybe going forward, it's
- 12:36Speaker 1: gonna be a little more fluid. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Maybe the first episode in these franchise movies takes a
- 12:43Speaker 1: hit because of that. Yeah, that's what I think. I
- 12:46Speaker 1: love that this was a procedural drama. Yeah, I'm thrilled
- 12:52Speaker 1: to see something like that on the Hallmark Channel. I
- 12:54Speaker 1: know it was on movies and mysteries, but in the
- 12:58Speaker 1: last two and a half years that we've been how
- 13:02Speaker 1: long has it been, three three? This is like the
- 13:05Speaker 1: first I've seen of it. Is this a first? I
- 13:07Speaker 1: saw a comparison to Darrow and Darrow, which is a
- 13:10Speaker 1: Hallmark series, but it's been ten years. Oh wow, And
- 13:13Speaker 1: I think this still does have a fresher take on
- 13:16Speaker 1: what they were doing in that series. Well. I love
- 13:19Speaker 1: that it was like based in the criminal justice system.
- 13:21Speaker 1: We get a little bit of CSI, we get a
- 13:23Speaker 1: little bit of Veronica Mars, we get a little bit
- 13:26Speaker 1: of How To get Away with Murder And those are
- 13:29Speaker 1: great shows, yeah, that have done very well. So I
- 13:33Speaker 1: love that we're getting that kind of specific genre on Hallmark.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Love it, love it, love it, love it, love it.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I like the idea of exonerating an innocent Oh yeah.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Nikki Deloch was interviewed by Southern Living and this is
- 13:48Speaker 1: a quote that I really like. She says, it's important
- 13:51Speaker 1: for people to be able to have redemption, and it's
- 13:53Speaker 1: important for us to believe in redemption. I think we
- 13:56Speaker 1: exist in the country where people have forgotten about how
- 13:58Speaker 1: important it is for us to allow people to have
- 14:01Speaker 1: second chances and to be redeemed, especially when they're innocent,
- 14:04Speaker 1: and also to talk about how the justice system is
- 14:06Speaker 1: made up of human beings and human beings are going
- 14:09Speaker 1: to make mistakes. That's really fair. Now, can I share
- 14:15Speaker 1: something that was from the Facebook group? Our Facebook group please?
- 14:18Speaker 1: One of our Facebook group members said she had wished
- 14:23Speaker 1: that the person who was exonerated was a person of color.
- 14:28Speaker 1: There's a disproportionate number of people of color incarcerated, yes, exactly,
- 14:33Speaker 1: and by extension, that suggests that there's a disproportionate number
- 14:36Speaker 1: of people of color who are falsely incarcerated. Exactly. Yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 1: that's a great point in that thread. There is something
- 14:44Speaker 1: that I wished for too, but we're gonna we'll get
- 14:46Speaker 1: to it. Okay. The last thing that is on my
- 14:49Speaker 1: list of likes is you have a lot more? Yes,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I do. Well, let me talk about Nicky and Benn. Okay.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I thought they were a great addition to this movie,
- 14:57Speaker 1: and I saw a lot of commentary that people wanted
- 14:59Speaker 1: more of them. I didn't, and not because I didn't
- 15:03Speaker 1: love them. I think they're in here just enough. They
- 15:07Speaker 1: are familiar faces. They kind of boost the movie a
- 15:11Speaker 1: little bit by putting those two big names, but they
- 15:14Speaker 1: allow the Scooby Gang, as you and I refer to them,
- 15:19Speaker 1: to shine. Yeah, and I think that's done well. I
- 15:24Speaker 1: don't want this to be Nicky and Ben. I want
- 15:27Speaker 1: this to be Catherine McNamara and her Mary Gang of
- 15:31Speaker 1: crime Solvers. Yeah, I absolutely agree. I do think though
- 15:36Speaker 1: the way this was promoted on social media, hmm, it's
- 15:41Speaker 1: kind of a bait and switch because they're showing like
- 15:44Speaker 1: Nicki and Ben as kind of the forefront of the
- 15:49Speaker 1: I have a specific photo in mind. I agree with you,
- 15:53Speaker 1: like it's kind of nice. Have you ever seen a
- 15:57Speaker 1: show introduce another show where like roll over into like
- 16:02Speaker 1: acrossover episode, Yeah, exactly what this is what that felt
- 16:06Speaker 1: like to me, Like we have these two, you know,
- 16:09Speaker 1: Hallmark actors who are loved and respected, and they're just
- 16:13Speaker 1: a little bit of a like a teaser, like they
- 16:17Speaker 1: they're helping the new franchise take off. So I didn't
- 16:21Speaker 1: mind it. I actually no offense, but I think they
- 16:23Speaker 1: could have cut Ben's role completely out of it, like
- 16:28Speaker 1: I don't think we needed the Nicky and Ben romance
- 16:30Speaker 1: at all. I thought it was cute. I thought it
- 16:33Speaker 1: was cute and clever how she like walks in on them.
- 16:35Speaker 1: But yeah, it wasn't necessary. No, you know, I think
- 16:39Speaker 1: it's is a nice little like thing. Well, to your
- 16:43Speaker 1: point about cutting Ben's role. I it started off and
- 16:47Speaker 1: I was like, oh, no, am I gonna hate him
- 16:49Speaker 1: because he's like this tough guy DA and then he
- 16:52Speaker 1: comes around to be on her side. Yeah, in like
- 16:55Speaker 1: a well if you happen to find that I know
- 16:57Speaker 1: a DA who might be willing to reopen this case.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I liked that he came around as the good guy. Yeah.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I really didn't want to have to hate him. Fair.
- 17:06Speaker 1: That's fair. Let me finish the things that I liked
- 17:09Speaker 1: about this movie. I love the big cast in comparison
- 17:12Speaker 1: to like one or two key players, which we usually
- 17:15Speaker 1: get like in a Mystery Curious Caterer. Yeah exactly. I
- 17:19Speaker 1: feel like this is going to open the door for
- 17:23Speaker 1: like multiple story arcs. Like I think it's really cool
- 17:28Speaker 1: that they're doing something like that. And I think this
- 17:32Speaker 1: younger cast brings like a new fresh energy to the
- 17:36Speaker 1: chick Huh. I'm super supportive of that. It really reminded
- 17:41Speaker 1: me of and I don't know if you watched it
- 17:44Speaker 1: the ABC series Scandal, the Shonda Rhimes show. I watched
- 17:48Speaker 1: the first two seasons. Okay, so in terms like they
- 17:51Speaker 1: had all these characters who worked for Olivia Pope. Yes,
- 17:55Speaker 1: that's why I was like, what what's her name? And
- 17:58Speaker 1: it gave me the same kind of vibe. Yeah, you
- 18:01Speaker 1: have all these kind of like quirky but like they
- 18:03Speaker 1: bring something to the group as a whole to solve
- 18:07Speaker 1: the project they're working on. Uh huh. Finally, one of
- 18:10Speaker 1: the funniest scenes. I thought there was a lot of
- 18:12Speaker 1: like comic relief in this movie. To thea there are a
- 18:14Speaker 1: lot of really funny lines. But when PJ, the friend
- 18:17Speaker 1: PJ is naming their group and she's like, let's call
- 18:20Speaker 1: this Justice Warriors or let's free Market or whatever, I
- 18:25Speaker 1: just thoughtless funny. Of course, that's what kids, people their
- 18:29Speaker 1: age are going to do, Like it was appropriate for
- 18:31Speaker 1: their age to be joking about whatever their team name is.
- 18:35Speaker 1: And that's what I liked about it. I have just
- 18:37Speaker 1: one wish, Okay, you have a lot, and I have two.
- 18:41Speaker 1: So I mentioned that one of the things I like
- 18:44Speaker 1: the most about mystery movies is that there's less of
- 18:46Speaker 1: a focus on a romance. I didn't I don't didn't
- 18:52Speaker 1: want it at all in this movie. Okay, I don't
- 18:56Speaker 1: think that Casey and Eli need to be together. I
- 19:00Speaker 1: think their story is more powerful if they come together
- 19:04Speaker 1: as friends. I think, to your point, the idea of
- 19:08Speaker 1: this gang working together, the power of the friendship behind that.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Maybe there's a romance for one of them down the line.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I mean, I definitely see Sarah and Eli potentially developed
- 19:20Speaker 1: by Sarah and Liam. Oh yeah, okay, developing a little
- 19:26Speaker 1: something something. I just I didn't want it. I agree,
- 19:30Speaker 1: it's not always necessary, right, Yes, it's not always necessary.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Let that find like they're other people. I think it's
- 19:41Speaker 1: a distraction, Like let's tell these fun mystery stories. Let's
- 19:45Speaker 1: have these quirky interactions, like your relationships happen out of
- 19:49Speaker 1: the group. Yeah, because obviously Eli is going to become
- 19:53Speaker 1: one of these justice warriors or so. I just that's
- 19:58Speaker 1: my feeling. I just don't need it. And I know
- 20:00Speaker 1: we're heading there. Let's hope, and we're got all this trauma, right,
- 20:05Speaker 1: Like her brother went to prison, and yes he's been exonerated,
- 20:08Speaker 1: but they still have to work through all that, Like
- 20:09Speaker 1: her brother's still not in a great place, Like he
- 20:13Speaker 1: wasn't an angel at this moment. They lost their parents,
- 20:16Speaker 1: his girlfriend was murdered even though she was cheating out.
- 20:19Speaker 1: There's all this. There's a lot of trauma for sure
- 20:21Speaker 1: that they need to work through before they come together. Yes, yes,
- 20:27Speaker 1: here are my wishes. One. I think this story could
- 20:30Speaker 1: have been simplified. For example, a similar story could have
- 20:35Speaker 1: been told, but there doesn't need to be a personal
- 20:38Speaker 1: connection to the victim and the criminal, Like what are
- 20:42Speaker 1: the chances? Yeah, so I was wondering and looking at
- 20:47Speaker 1: this as a franchise. I feel like they're gonna be like, oh,
- 20:52Speaker 1: now that we know we're good at this, then we're
- 20:54Speaker 1: gonna Oh someone came to us and was like, oh,
- 20:56Speaker 1: there's this other and now they're gonna not have this
- 20:58Speaker 1: personal relationship. But the question is, then, how do you
- 21:02Speaker 1: get these law students involved? How does this start without
- 21:05Speaker 1: the personal relationship? Yeah? I don't know, you're right, but yeah,
- 21:11Speaker 1: her brother was accused of murdering her ex best friend,
- 21:16Speaker 1: who also happens to be the girlfriend of some guy
- 21:19Speaker 1: that she knows that they're in the same law life.
- 21:22Speaker 1: It just is too much. But I hear you that
- 21:27Speaker 1: they needed the personal connection to actually make it happen,
- 21:30Speaker 1: because otherwise, But can you see, like, doesn't it feel
- 21:34Speaker 1: very familiar where you have like a bunch of a
- 21:37Speaker 1: group of eager like lost students and criminal justice inspired
- 21:42Speaker 1: by Kim Kardashian getting the wrongfully accused. Okay, I wasn't
- 21:46Speaker 1: going there, but like, but that's what she does, I know,
- 21:49Speaker 1: I know, sure, yeah, and they like discover this case
- 21:52Speaker 1: and they're like this doesn't sit rightly. Yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 21:56Speaker 1: All right, here's the next thing I wish for. I
- 21:58Speaker 1: do like Catherine McNamara hear me out, I wish in
- 22:03Speaker 1: one particular scene. I thought she was great throughout the
- 22:05Speaker 1: whole movie, but in one particular scene, when she's being
- 22:07Speaker 1: strangled by the killer, she confronts, Yes, I just needed
- 22:13Speaker 1: more of a reaction, like this woman is strangling you,
- 22:17Speaker 1: Like it just was like not enough, a little reserved.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I don't know. Everything leading up to that I thought
- 22:25Speaker 1: was really good. She's leading mildly strangled, She's like, are
- 22:32Speaker 1: you fighting for your life? Throw an elbow in that
- 22:34Speaker 1: lady's face. Yes, something, But I thought she was good.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I liked her. Some of the feedback on IMDb, which
- 22:40Speaker 1: you know is brings out the worst in people, said
- 22:44Speaker 1: that she wasn't good. I liked her. I liked her too. Look.
- 22:47Speaker 1: One of the imdbvie reviews was very complimentary, and they're like,
- 22:52Speaker 1: and I'm so glad they didn't write in a gay
- 22:53Speaker 1: character like Hallmark likes to do. Great movie. O god,
- 22:57Speaker 1: it's so close. You were just all I saw that.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Speaking of did you see that? Do you have any
- 23:05Speaker 1: I have one. I have a couple of thoughts, Go ahead.
- 23:08Speaker 1: One is okay. Casey visits her brother in prison. This
- 23:10Speaker 1: is after he's been convicted. They're sitting across the table
- 23:13Speaker 1: from each other, which is fine, like some prisons are
- 23:15Speaker 1: like that, not that I have personal experience, but she asks,
- 23:20Speaker 1: can I bring you anything from your place? And he
- 23:23Speaker 1: says socks, toothbrush, ear plugs. I'm like, correct me if
- 23:27Speaker 1: I'm wrong. You are not allowed to bring care packages
- 23:29Speaker 1: into prisoners. Yeah, probably like put money in the commissary
- 23:35Speaker 1: account that they can get buy a cup of noodles
- 23:37Speaker 1: and some smoke, you know, like you can't ear plugs.
- 23:41Speaker 1: I bet they sell fowe me ear plugs in the
- 23:42Speaker 1: prison commissary. I bet they do. She cannot bring a
- 23:46Speaker 1: toothbrush from his place. Bring me the oral Beef, my
- 23:50Speaker 1: sonic air. I'm all right, what yeah, no, no, okay,
- 23:57Speaker 1: here's my two. First of all, Casey and Eli go
- 24:01Speaker 1: on a steak out and they're unmatching black hats. They're
- 24:04Speaker 1: in like steak out Barbie Costuing. First of all, I
- 24:08Speaker 1: feel like it's so much more conspicuous to have two
- 24:11Speaker 1: people sitting in all black with a black cap on,
- 24:13Speaker 1: like in the front seat of the b car like.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Of course. Secondly, I loved Liam's many van decals. It
- 24:23Speaker 1: was just like the dog rumor or whatever. But also
- 24:26Speaker 1: I was like, doesn't it make more sense to have
- 24:27Speaker 1: an unmarked van. They're gonna be like I saw that
- 24:30Speaker 1: dog groomer van. Stake it out. Ah, I am trying
- 24:32Speaker 1: you switch them out so it's not the same one.
- 24:34Speaker 1: It just seems. I just thought it was funny. If
- 24:38Speaker 1: this is not Mystery Ink, which I had totally forgotten
- 24:41Speaker 1: that Les Scooby Gang had their incorporated, so funny. Wou'd
- 24:48Speaker 1: you rate this? I gave it four point two five stars. Oh,
- 24:51Speaker 1: three point seven five stars. I liked it. I love
- 24:56Speaker 1: a murdery show. Give me more, make it more more murdery. Yes,
- 25:01Speaker 1: thank you for listening to this episode of Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Come back tomorrow for our review of a Scottish love
- 25:08Speaker 1: scheme decidedly not at all murdery. In the meantime, we
- 25:12Speaker 1: love your five star ratings and reviews. If you love
