- 2:10SPEAKER_02: NEPA Sports Hall of Famer here, head football coach at Honesdale with a big one that he's excited to talk about this week.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Both former players, now both coaches on the same side of the microphone.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: Coach Hoannitz, maybe more than ever.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: How are you doing this week?
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: Good, buddy.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: We're uh, you know, we keep saying this each week goes a little faster, right?
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: We're starting to pick up steam, but uh, you know, what a great week for sport.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Actually, we were talking about it.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: I was talking with the officials a lot before our game.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: The weather has been so great for the games.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: It's been a really great uh, I think, season, not only the games, but even for the fans to go to the games and being able to enjoy them.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: We haven't had a lot of weather events, and it's been uh, you know, just the great first uh seven weeks in in uh Lackawanna and Luzerne and all the counties that uh make up District 2, which is fantastic.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I feel like a year ago at this time, even a little sooner, we had the sweatsuits out already at practice, and we're stretching this beautiful fall weather.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: It's been gorgeous to practice it for sure.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: Hopefully, you didn't put the hex on anything, Coach Wannaz.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: I see some potential, you know, thunderstorms Friday night.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: Well, we're right before the game.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: That stuff will be over right at six o'clock.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: By seven, we'll be good to go.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: There we go, there we go.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: Well, you you're definitely right.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: We have had some nice weather.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: And before we get into that week seven recap and get ahead to week eight, we can't do this without our partners.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: Kleinbauer Mechanical and Envy Electrical have been with Sportswire from the start.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Kleinbauer keeps homes warm with top-notch boiler and heating service, while Envy Electrical powers them safely with expert panel upgrades, wiring, and generator installs across northeastern Pennsylvania.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: I've been hearing great things about Kleinbauer Mechanical.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: Coach, I'm driving, I'm seeing the Envy Electrical signs now that we they're sponsoring us everywhere.
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: Those signs don't go in the yard if they're not doing good work.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: So thank you to both of our sponsors.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: Thanks for keeping us wired in.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: Stay wired with Kleinbauer Mechanical and Envy Electrical.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: Now, coach, we recap week seven.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: You lead us off here, coach.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: You could get us into this one.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: You broke my heart a little bit.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: All right, Honesdale went to Lakeland, beat the undefeated Chiefs 51-20 to move to 6-1.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: Definitely a big statement game for your Hornets.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, talk us through it.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: You know, we Lakeland had to make some adjustments at the quarterback position, and obviously scoring 51, they didn't have enough on defense to slow your squad down.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: Well, I want to start with this.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: I, you know, obviously most people know I took two years off of coaching and last year came back, and uh, you know, I, you know, obviously you missed it a little bit, but uh this was one of the uh most fun games I think I've been in.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Just uh even pre-game, I got to talk to uh Poches, uh Jackson Poaches, and um Spataro uh before the game, two Lakeland kids who had gotten injured and not going to be able to be back and uh had a nice conversation with them.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Two great kids, two great young men.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Their parents uh should be very proud of uh how they are as young men, but it was great to talk to them.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: They're in great spirits.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: I want to tell everybody that.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Uh both talking about coming back to play next year.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: So I thought that was great pregame.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, then the you know the game was was uh for us was great.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: I think we, you know, I keep telling people we're a little better, I think, than people think.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Uh Duda is really uh I think one of the best players in District 2, and our defense's been playing well, and we kind of got on them a little bit early.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, the wing T is tough to stop when you're not used to seeing it, I think, in a week.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: Um, and you know, obviously with uh with losing Jackson last week, they had uh Rose of Grantz was playing quarterback and he had golf all week, so they've had a lot of uh you know, a lot of kind of variables come into play with practice and things like that.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, they're a good football team.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: Uh obviously they're gonna miss Jackson, but I think they have enough uh you know enough pieces there that this week now having another week of practice, I think you'll see Lakewood really coming back and kind of getting back to where they were and uh you know putting the rest of the league on notice again.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: And then obviously I said one of the best things I was laughing.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: I was coming off the field at halftime and they had a big student section and they're chirping and busting the players, and then you know, I'm getting too old now.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: I said something back just to kind of get a little rise out.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: So I had a good time with that too.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: So I really did.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: I had a great time.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, it was nice to get the juices flowing again with a big, big game like that, great crowd, and uh, you know, for high school football, just to be able to get the back and forth and some of the things that go on.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: I thought it was a uh you know, a nice Friday night that I haven't had in a while.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: So it was good, I think, all around.
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: I'd love to hear that.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: It's a really fresh perspective.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: It may be one that you or I wouldn't have 20 years ago, right?
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: 20 years ago, Coach Juan, it's there, just to be able to soak it in and really enjoy those kids and have those football conversations before a game like that, and then you know, even you joke a bit at halftime, you know, you're having a little bit of fun with the kids in that in that section.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: You know, talk a little bit about that.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: You know, we everybody knows we grind all week, but to be able to kind of slow things down, like we talk about a player slowing the game down.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: As a coach, it slows down for us, I think, a little bit.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: And you you learn to appreciate those relationships and conversations we have with coaches and players and really enjoying the game.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think uh, you know, I think a big eye-opener for me was my two sons got hurt, and I kind of was able to take a step back and just see uh, you know, maybe a little different perspective of things and how you know how sports are important, but obviously there's there's other things that kind of go along with it.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: But uh I've really, I think as a coach tried, and I even told our kids on Friday, like just stop for a second, soak it all in, you know, take a deep breath, look around, um, you know, enjoy it.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: We know and you know this, it's sports about making memories.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: Uh, and I think the more you can kind of step back and and uh you know take that mental picture and be able to kind of lock that away is is important.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: And I think some people are so worried about winning games all the time and kind of some of the uh aspects of it that you forget, you know, it's a game.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: And if you lose, you're still gonna get up the next morning and you're gonna get ready for you know another game.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: And I think I've uh I've that's kind of come into a little more perspective for me.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: And that's why even with the fans, I mean have a good time.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I somebody asked me after the game, what did you do to those kids?
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: I said, I'm gonna be 52 years old.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna walk off a field being up 37-7 and have kids tell me that we stunk and everything else.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, it's it's uh uh a couple little quips going back and forth, and uh it's just a new age, I think, of sports.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: It's everything is out there, everything's with social media, and these, you know, us doing podcasts, and uh there's not a whole lot to to hide anymore.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: So, you know, and have a good time.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: I just think it's fun, it's supposed to be fun.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: Uh my kids were laughing coming out on the field when I was chirping back and forth.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: They had a good time.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: So I mean, if if you can make it fun for your kids and get more kids to come out and uh be a part of it, I think it's something we gotta do as coaches as well.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: 100% there.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: And you know, I always try to tell the players you play as long as you're blessed to play.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: So you do want to be able to soak it in.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: And hey, we're all competitive, we're all going to put out the best performance we can, but take a step back, soak it in, enjoy it.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: And then as a coach, we both had different points in our career, and maybe touch on that real quick, and then I'll get back into the listeners.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: I promise, you know, but we haven't had this these opportunities for this perspective.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Two years off from the game.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: What was that like for you there?
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: And I go, I know I've had different gaps in time too.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: And you know, did did you miss it?
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: Was there a certain point where you said, hey, I know I know I gotta get back into this?
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I think it was, I think for me it was good.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: I just uh I tell people this all the time, and they they it's hard for them to grasp it, but I really got uh bored to a certain extent.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: It was uh, and you know this.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: I think um we had a I was lucky enough to have a group of kids for the last seven or eight years of myself coaching at Valley that were just excellent.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: We were, you know, in in contention for district titles every year.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: And uh I told a lot of people, I just thought as the years went, we it got to a point where I was really gearing up to coaching about two or three games a year, and the rest of the games were kind of, you know, you kind of knew you were gonna win, and there was not a whole lot of effort you had to put into it.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: So I think it was good to step away.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, I'm happy coming to Homestead because I told people when I took the job that I I felt I wanted to get into something that was more of like a rebuild, something we could I could really uh make my own, and I think it's been nice to be able to do that.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: And it's a challenge.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I listen, I tell people this all the time.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, I had people last year saying to me, you know, you can't even fix Homesteal.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, now we're sitting at six and one uh and you know in a position to be able to do some things that haven't been done up there, and I'm excited about that, and I think it recharges you a little bit, and it, you know, gives you, I think, a little um boost as far as even your ego that you know you could do some things that people didn't think you could do, and uh, you know, maybe you're a little better than people give you credit for with things.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: So I need those things.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: Like I'm I'm like I said, I'm at that point.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: You know, I I won a state championship as a player, the district championships, the college championships, I've done a lot.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, anything I could I could do to try to um you know juice back up again, I think that's that's something that this gives me.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: And I'm I'm uh excited every week to go out there on the field and try to do that.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: You know, that time off does kind of rejuvenate you, refresh you, and and I agree with you.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you like that new challenge, and you know, we have to tune out that white noise sometimes that's out there, those naysayers.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: I've learned, you know, we're blessed with two ears for a reason, in one and out the other sometimes.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: And you know, but I I believe, you know, you take a model of success with you, coach, as you have, and you provide structure and discipline to the program and you care for those kids, and you get the results from those efforts.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: So appreciate that, you know, diving in a little bit different.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: Hopefully, our listeners enjoy that.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: That's something we want to do from time to time.
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: Give some behind-the-curtains looks and a little bit different perspective that coach and I have had, and uh appreciate Coach sharing that with us tonight.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: As we get back into week seven here, we have got to first hit our athlete of the week.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: And it was a big one here.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: Our athlete of the week, powered by Hydrobats, because every great performance earns a great recovery.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: And this week it goes to Scranton Preps, Owen Jeffers, who accounted for five touchdowns.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: Not one, not two, but five.
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: Three on the ground, two through the air, 219 yards, is the number one small school edge, number one North Poco, 37 to 36 in a triple time, triple overtime thriller.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: This this was definitely one for the for the ages coach.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: Congrats to Owen Jeffers for being the AF athlete of the week.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, Hydra Bats Athlete of the Week.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: I'm mixing sponsors here.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: I'm getting ahead of myself here.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: Um, an exciting one.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: Coach, take us through this thrilling game here.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: Um it went down to the end.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: Braden McPartlane's two-point conversion, the difference, handing the Trojans their first loss in a long time.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: And uh proven prep belongs at the top.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just think uh, you know, this was two of the better teams in District 2.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: We talked about that.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: We've been talking about them for weeks now, right?
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh, would you have expected anything different than a game going on multiple overtimes?
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Uh and you know, I I don't I don't know all the facts of everything, but somebody told me that uh during the game that for that last uh two-point conversion that North Pocono had 12 men on the field.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: So uh Prep took the penalty, ended up going for two.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: They were gonna kick an uh extra point and then ended up changing their mind and going for two, which was uh obviously the you know the turning point in the game there.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: But I mean you got a lot of good athletes, uh two great coaching staffs.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: Um I heard Greg uh Dolan talking a little bit, North Pocono's uh coach after the game, just saying, you know, and every coach thinks this way.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: There's a couple plays here and there in a game.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: If they go your way, uh you win.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: If they don't go your way, uh, you know, usually you don't win.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: So uh he was talking about some of those plays and how both teams kind of went back and forth and probably could say the same thing.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: So uh two teams that'll be in the mix for the district championship in both of their classifications, and uh maybe two teams that might even make a little uh run into the states if both of them uh win the district.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: So I mean it's a you know great for our area with football, uh exciting, and uh you know it's what you want to see.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: I think that week six, week seven, uh into week ten, where you want these uh back and forth games that that mean a lot, and you know, whether it's division or uh playoff points uh mean a lot going into the district playoffs.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: And is that your quote and coach there of you know the game comes down to a few plays.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: I think we talked about this in a previous episode.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: And that's the importance of those details that practice.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: When those kids, you know, we we we emphasize focus, finishing plays, paying attention on the sidelines, all those things.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: I had the same talk with our junior varsity team this week, who's been having a really good season, but they lost the two-point game, and it came down to two, three plays.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: And legendary coach Bill Parcells used to always say that.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: So that's the difference.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: A huge one there for Scranton Prep.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: Cole West did play, right?
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: And then that was something our listeners said that was going to be the difference in a game, and we're talking about a one-point triple overtime game.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: So hats off to both of those teams for playing their hearts out and giving the fans a thriller last week and look forward to seeing you know how they play in the upcoming weeks to come.
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: We're down to two unbeatons.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: Dallas rolled Lake Lehman 49-7 to go to 7-0.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: Dunmore hung 72 on Western Wayne, also 7-0.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: These are the last two perfect team standings, coach.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: And I'm not even gonna let you talk about Dunmore yet because we're gonna get to that.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: Our chat's already lively over there arguing what's gonna happen in that game this week, but maybe just talk about Dallas continuing their season as they continue to roll.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Well, listen, we've said this.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: He's they're well coached.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Um, and they're they're well coached in all aspects of the game.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: They're scoring offensively, defensively, special teams.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: They are um a lot of guys are scoring too.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Like they got a lot of weapons uh kind of all over the place, though.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: They could beat you in the air, uh, they could beat you on the ground.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: So obviously they're you know, they're they're sitting right where they want to be sitting.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: I think, like I said, I don't think anybody beats them uh, you know, up into the district playoffs.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: I think they'll end up 10-0.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: Um, and and again, I they'll be a tough out.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're they're gonna play at home as that one seed.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Uh because I don't think North Pocano will be able to leapfrog them or anybody else for that matter.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Um, and I just they're tough at home.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: They're they're tough uh in general when they're not at home, but to put them at home, they're even tougher.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, but again, I just think they're gonna be a tough out.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: They're they're good in all aspects.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, like I said, they're they don't have a lot of uh, you know, I guess weak spots in their armor right now.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: So uh it'll be interesting to see when some of these teams kind of get back together in the playoffs and see what happens.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: Dallas is definitely rolling.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: They're hoping to continue that momentum on their way to a perfect season here.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: We'll see what happens down the stretch.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: We talked about Dunmore and Honesdale statement wins.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: Coach my Abenton Heights Comets came back to upset Wall and Palpak 21-7.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: Uh throw a congrats out there to Jaden Aglin passing the 1,000 yard mark.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: You've seen Paw Pack, I think you predicted last week Abenton Heights would come out in this close win when they weren't an easy team to predict last week.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Am I correct?
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: I think you get the uh, and I think a lot of teams are gonna run into this.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: I said the same thing kind of when we played Lake a little bit too.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: I think a lot of these teams when they have um like a stretch of, I don't want to say easy games, but games when they're playing a half or you know, uh the game's over by halftime.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: I just think when you get into some of these tough games, it's tough to kind of flip the switch when you haven't done it in a while.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: So uh I think you'll see that a little bit with some of the teams coming up where they might struggle if games go a little deeper.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, and I just think, like I said, I think while Paul Pack's gonna kind of run into a little bit of that now, they're gonna have a rough stretch now coming up.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: They had you, uh I think they have North Pocono, they have Valley View.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: So uh, and I think they have prep.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: So they, you know, they have a tough stretch of games left.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: Uh we're gonna have to really crank it up each week to get themselves over to hump.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: We're gonna watch, see if they could get bounce back.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: We're gonna talk more about Abington.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: They have a huge game coming up this weekend as well.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: A few more to cover.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: There was some expected and some upsets in this batch here.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: Mid-valley knocks off Riverside 49-28.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: Wilkesbury beats Wyoming Valley West 16-7.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: Old Forge Top Montrose 24-13.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: The Cougars of Valley View roll pass west 45-6, and Delaware Valley shuts out Scranton 55-0.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Thoughts there, coach.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: Well, uh Rose got banged up a little bit with Riverside, which is, I mean, he's their offense, right?
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: So uh we've talked about him.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's a Division I kid.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: Uh you know, he runs around.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: It's like backyard football if you ever watched him on film.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: So he's you know, he's unbelievable with that.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: Same way you'll have those Lakeland kids kind of play, uh, the same way.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: They're they're just super athletic, uh tough to defend.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: So obviously, if he's out uh for an extended period of time, I think that puts Riverside in a at a severe disadvantage, which it did against Mid Valley because he uh played for a quarter and a half, and then the game switched uh you know when he went out.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: And then um, you know, Old Forge, I wasn't really surprised about their playing much better now.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: Uh you know, the Valley View score, the Delaware Valley score is about what I expected.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: And we talked about Wilkesbury.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: They Wilkesbury is like Jekyll and Hyde.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: They look great some weeks, and then uh some weeks they don't look uh very good, but they played great against Wyoming Valley West, and uh maybe they'll get that turned around there and put themselves in a position to uh make a little run in the playoffs as well.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: I also see in our chat coach, we always love history and appreciate, you know, celebrate the wins.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: Uh Doug Noldy pointing out here that Coach Olsomer is sitting on win number 199, a nice milestone coming potentially for him.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: What's your thoughts on uh Coach Olsomer's career there?
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: 200.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: I've known Keith.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: I've known Keith a long time.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: We've had some uh battles as players against each other when he was at North Pocanoas at Valley View, and uh obviously a lot of battles we've coached against each other.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Uh he has his teams well prepared all the time, uh, tough to beat.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: You know, they're they're physical, uh you know, they're usually fast.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: Like I said, they don't make a lot of mistakes.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, if if you know anything about the history of Delaware Valley, I mean they were pretty much a laughing stock team uh before he got there.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: So he's done a great job over the last whatever 20-some years he's been there.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: I've really turned him into a power in District 2.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, he's made some nice runs into the playoffs, and he's done a great job, I think.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, I I'm always one of these guys like you want District 2 to do well when they, you know, get out of the area and stuff, and he's really done a nice job of uh putting helping put District 2 on the map and you know just getting it out there that we're not a pushover district by any stretch of the imagination.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: Rebuilt that culture, put a good coaching staff around him, and it's shine through as he's going for win number 200.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: And since I've been coaching at Abington, we were actually talking a little bit about this tonight, just rivalry games, you know, as Abington's getting ready for Valley View and they have a rivalry with Prep, but Del Valle's just been a thorn in our side, you know, not your typical rivalry, but the games have always been so good, it's kind of become one.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: And so much respect, Coach Olsimer, if you're listening.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Good luck getting uh number 200, well deserved.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: Coach, with that, we're gonna go into the update updated sportswire rankings.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: Starting with our which one do I want to start with here?
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: I think I have one challenge flag for you, coach.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna hold that a little bit and I'm gonna start with our big school top ten.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Here we have it, coach.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: Take us through these rankings, your top ten, and we'll go from there.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Well, the first three stay, right?
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: So Dallas won, North Pocono, uh, even though they lost, uh, you know, they're Playing the number one team in our small school.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: So I think that's a, and we thought that was a toss-up, even though uh West played.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: I don't think he's at full strength.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: So that's kind of a uh was a little handcuffed for them.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: Uh Valley View is another win, so they stayed at three.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Um Holmesdale bumps up a couple spots, obviously, with a big win over Lakeland.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: Um Abington played well.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: Uh big win for them over Wallon Pawpak.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Again, you could probably throw a challenge flag there, but uh Holmesdale beat Wall and Pawpak as well uh early in the season.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Uh Paw Pack sits at six.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, still think they're a great team.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: Uh they're like I said, they're gonna really get into the heart of their schedule now at the end.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: Uh Berwick's been up and down ever since Cleaver's been out.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: So uh they're gonna sit at seven.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: Uh Pittston, we've been talking about them.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: They score a ton of points.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: Uh they give up a ton, but they've been scoring more than most of the teams they played.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: So they're sitting at eight.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Uh Delaware with a nice win sits at nine.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: They get some of their guys back, uh, their tailbacks back, so they're gonna be a little better, I think, moving forward.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: And then Wilkesbury is a good football team.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, they've had some really nice wins uh this year.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Uh they beat Berwick already this year, um, and a big win this week against Wyoming Valley West.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: Um, I just hope they can string it together now and get some uh you know, some of these wins that maybe they've lost some games that they probably shouldn't have lost.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: They played Valley View tough even at the beginning of the year, but uh I hope they can string some together here.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: I love uh Coach Cynthia and uh you know they're sitting in number 10.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, no challenge flags here.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: I'm sure our listeners are like I said, you can nitpick or maybe find a little something there, but all in all, I think it's really fleshed itself out.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: This is obviously a big week.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: You know, coach, your team has a chance to make a jump.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: Abbotton has a chance to jump back in, Valley View has a chance to make a statement up there as they're they're chasing the North Poconos into Dallas.
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: Uh so it big school top 10 is getting really interesting right now.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: Um, good luck to all the teams.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: We'll see how these rankings flesh out.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: And with that, coach, I'm gonna shift this over to our small school.
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: And coach, I think I definitely have a challenge flag ready, but what do you got here?
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: So Scranton Prep stays at one, and I told you, I just think they beat everybody on this list.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: Uh they're they're good, they're athletic, they're physical.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: Um, and you saw that against North Pocono.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: Because I had a lot of people tell me all year, no one's gonna beat North Pocono until the district uh playoffs start.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: So uh Scranton Prep did a good job with that.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Dunmore sent at two, undefeated, they're awesome.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, I've seen a lot of film on them.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: They're really a complete football team.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: A lot of good athletes, uh, you know, very good, a lot of seniors, they're senior heavy, which usually that uh if your kids are good, you got a good chance of winning games.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: Wyoming area kind of has it figured out.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: Now I'm bumping them up to three just because uh, and really three and four to me are probably you could switch them back and forth.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: I think Lakeland losing their quarterback is really gonna uh hamper them a little bit.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Um Wyoming area had that happen in the beginning of the year.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: Now uh Kapecny has been doing a great job and settled in at quarterback, and they're playing great football in the Wyoming area at number three.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: Um Lake Lehman beat Mid Valley.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: Um, so they're gonna they're ahead of them uh at number five.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: Uh Mid Valley six with a big win over Riverside.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: I think Riverside, if Rose is out, I think that greatly hampers uh what they're gonna be able to do.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: So they drop down to seven.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: Uh Lackawanna Trails getting some of their kids back.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: As you can see, they're starting to win some more games now.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: Same thing with Old Forge uh at nine, and then um Western Wayne, and again, I know people are gonna say, well, Western Wayne's getting beat by, but Western Wayne's playing a lot of good teams the last uh three or four weeks.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: It's a tough stretch of the schedule for them.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: Uh, and I really think if they played a lot of the teams, other teams on this schedule, they'd do fine.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: So uh or on this list, they'd be fine.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: So uh they're sitting at number 10.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: Super interesting rankings here, and definitely I think the most controversial.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: The chat's been you know chatting it up all night here.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: They're lively.
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: Thanks everybody in the chat for tuning in tonight and enjoying the show.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: You know, and in my I've been battling for the undefeated teams, but the the challenge flag isn't for Dunmore here going over prep.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: I I think there is a good argument to be made, whether it's in the chat, Coach, you and I were talking about it before the show.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: Again, uh I'm avoiding the conflict of interest because you're you're playing Dunmore this week, but it does have to flesh itself out.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: They're a team that has not had a strong strength of schedule.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: You know, my argument is they've done what they've supposed to do, they never let down in any of those games.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: Dunmore's done a good job of you know not falling asleep at the wheel, not taking the foot out off the pedal.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: But hey, this is a prove-it week for them.
- 26:33SPEAKER_02: So let's see what happens.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: That that'll flesh itself out over the course of this weekend.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: But my challenge flag is for Riverside.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: And and I know Sportswire, they dropped them down a little bit.
- 26:43SPEAKER_02: I know, you know, injury is a factor here, but to be dropped down, you know, when to have Lake Lehman at fifth at three and four ahead of a five-win team, who I again, I know they just lost, but you look at their body of work, coach, tell me Riverside shouldn't be higher there.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: I mean, we can't hold that injury against them there.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna I'm gonna say too with Lake Lehman.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: I think if you look at their schedule, uh Lake Lehman really plays up a schedule.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: They're playing Dallas, they're playing Berwick, they're playing like they're playing a lot of the bigger, uh, bigger schools.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Um, and again, Riverside, Dunmore, and it's not their fault.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, people make the schedule, but they're gonna play some of the they've been playing a lot of the smaller schools.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: So I just think uh, and again, we've talked about this week in and week out.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, you get to that five through ten range.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, you could probably uh mix and match a bunch of those teams around and flip-flop some.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: And and like I said, Lake Lehman beat Mid Valley, so they should be ahead of them.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: Mid Valley beat Riverside, so what do you know?
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's it's a tough if Riverside played Lake Lehman, who would win?
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, without a quarterback, I don't know.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: So uh I think it's tough.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: Like I said, I think if Riverside's at full strength, I mean maybe they beat Lakeland uh, you know, the week before.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: I I you know I have no idea.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, it's a it's a difficult thing when you get to this.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: And uh I think a lot of these teams, like I said, they'll they will flush themselves out and you'll see in the next coming weeks if they can go on a run to finish the season or if they're gonna struggle a little bit and you get a better picture of where they're gonna be at in a couple weeks.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: I'll definitely find point.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: I actually forgot to throw the challenge back.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: I'll throw it and I'll let the I'll let the listeners decide there uh you know whether Riverside should be higher above Lake Lehman, or you know, do it does that injury and that recent loss uh earn them that seventh ranking.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: But for the Vikings out there, I'm pulling for you.
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: Riverside, I I have you at number five there.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: Coach Juan, it's definitely with some good analysis, breaking down kind of the way things have been playing out lately.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: So interesting week again.
- 28:45SPEAKER_02: Let me take these off the screen here.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: We miss producer Brad when he's out there.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: I know he's behind the scenes.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: Brad, how can they keep popping up?
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: All right, I think they just supposed to disappear after a few seconds there.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: Apologize to the listeners.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: I pop, I'm hitting one and then the other one pops up.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: Okay, there we go.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: We solved them.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: I think producer Brad snuck in there.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: We got a little crossed up.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: So there was the updated sportswire rankings.
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: From there, now I'm gonna go to the fit of the week.
- 29:17SPEAKER_02: I actually get to throw up another fun graphic there.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: Fueled by Fit AF Nutrition.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: Our sportswire team is watching every Friday night for the best game fits.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: And they really are watching, coach.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: If you go on Facebook and you see that it's fit of the week, they got like what every product is, the brand description, where you buy it, it's it's wild.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: So that they do not take this lightly.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: And this week's fit of the week goes to Gabe Maby of the Susquehanna Sabres.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: Gabe, you're definitely looking sharp here, buddy.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: If you're tuning in, man, he got the the one sleeve long.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: We didn't get to do this back in the 90s at Lakeland.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: One sleeve long.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: Looks like he's got some motivation on his sleeve there.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: Then he's got the the Nike, you know, muscle band there around the bicep.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: He got the quarterback playlist, socks up nice and tight there.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: Kind of looks like a Duke University like uh uniform almost.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: Rocking, although, coach, I don't know.
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: He's got the Nike band and the underarmor uniform.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: I don't know if that's a conflict of interest.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: Well, it would be.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: If he was in college, we wouldn't be able to do that.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: But I'm laughing because you're saying we didn't have we didn't even they didn't even have these things when we were in high school.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: We didn't have any, nobody was making armbands, or we didn't even have the sticky gloves when we're we're in school.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: We used to wear scuba gloves on cold nights.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, the the gear they have now is a heck of a lot different than it was uh when we played a long time ago with those leather helmets on, you know.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: They're definitely spoiled.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: If you could have seen the size of like my elbow pads, now I would decorate them up a little bit.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: The coach would let me get away with that, but that would be about the extent of it there.
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: So gay, man, you you get a challenge flag for crossing under armor and Nike, but you look great, buddy.
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: So you definitely earn the fit of the week.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: And then when it comes to your own fuel, check out FitAF Nutrition Meal Prep and use the code Sabres20 to save 20% off your first order of seven meals or more.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: Fit of the week fueled by Fit AF Nutrition.
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: Kudos, Gabe Man, looking sharp and good luck this week for sure.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: And with that, we will go into our week eight preview featured games first.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: Coach, I'm shining the spotlight on your game first.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: And and without a doubt, that was the right choice just by listening to the chat here.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: Um Doug Doug's got a point there.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: I'd be in detention, depending if I, you know, we have the kind of swag that they're putting on there.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: That's that's a good point.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: And Gabe Manny definitely brings the drip, man.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: Our listeners are in there.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Justin Bradley, I think that's the man behind a lot of these photos here.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: He's catching some good ones.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: He's a good photographer.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: One of the travels to Dunmore 7-0.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: Fresh off a 51-20 win at Lakeland, Honesdale and Gabe Duda, who's having one heck of a year, visit a Dunmore team that's 7-0, just scored 72.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: Coach, I know you're not gonna be able to tell me if the Hornets can knock off undefeated and team and two undefeated teams in two weeks.
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: That's something for you and your guys in the locker room there.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: But I think two things I expect from you tonight here.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: One is you could give the listeners as always what to expect in this type of football game.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: And then the next thing is next week.
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: Next week, you're gonna be able to truly tell me if this team could play with a prep or not, because you're gonna be you're gonna have a front row seat this week.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: But for now, tell the listeners what do they expect in this kind of game?
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just think, I mean, obviously they're undefeated, so they're a great football team.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Uh, they were good last year, a lot of their stars coming back.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, they they have a ton of seniors, so they're senior heavy.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: A lot of these kids have played from their freshman year up to their senior year.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, then they add, you know, to the mix a couple years ago when he uh came in from Susquehanna, and he's a he's a you know, in old school talk, these kids they have a lot of dudes.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: You know, they have uh kids who can play, they're they got kids who meddled in in states and tracks, so they can run.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Uh they're super athletic, they move around, they're great on defense.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: Uh they have a great kicker, so they they really are a complete football team.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: Uh obviously we have to go there to play, which will be uh difficult task, go to Dunmore to play a game there on their home turf.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: And, you know, Dunmore, I mean, let's face it, if you look at the history of District 2, they're they're one of the better teams in District 2.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: So uh over the course of time with and you know, I've I've been friend I was friends with Coach Hens' for a long time.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, then Coach Dolan and some of the guys were there on his staff.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: And you know, it's it's a uh it's a daunting task, I think, to go there and win a game.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: And you know, I'm just hoping our kids from I I've said this for weeks.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: I think our game against North Pocono is really an eye-opener for our kids.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, they know what to expect when they go play some of these uh in these big games now.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: And uh I'm hoping they can take some of that knowledge with them now this Friday and uh we'll see what we can do with Dunmore.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I believe without a doubt, this isn't this is gonna be one of those great, great football games.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: And uh I love that you bring up Coach Hens's.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: We all have the great memories.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: Ironically, Coach, he gave my mom driving lessons and then generations later gave me driving lessons.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: And and Dunmore PD, if you're out there, I think those stop signs were optional when he was giving me uh coach uh lessons through Dunmore.
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure.
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: Coach he'd coast a little bit, you know.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: I think it was a Coach Hens' special there.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: I had uh I had a great interaction for years with Coach.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: Uh we used to work Pine Forest football camp together, and uh you know, in between sessions, the coaches would all go into the cabins and have lunch and all that, and Coach Henses never did that.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: He sat in his car uh the whole time.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: And he usually have the radio on or something, but I I got uh into situations where I'd go sit in the car with him and we'd have a lot of you know conversations about the valley and old Valley View stories, and uh, you know, his his father coaching at Blakely and uh obviously him, but uh what a great uh, you know, we talked about memories and sports, just what a great, I think, like little clips and snippets of time in my life where I, you know, I wish I could go back and sit in a car with him again and have the conversations.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, I'd see him at church and everything on the weekend.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: It's just uh what a great guy that uh loved kids, uh loved Dunmore as a community and would do anything for that community.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: And uh, and even the community I think at Blakely, uh, where you know he's a he's a Jess of Blakely Archibald person too, so he's a Valley View guy.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: Uh lived in the district, and his kids went there and grandkids played for me.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, just a great uh individual and human being, I think, for high school sports.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: And I know Dunmore miss him, and I miss uh seeing him at things, but you know, it's that tradition.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, they they've kept that tradition alive that he started there, and uh, you know, they'll continue to do that.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, 100%.
- 35:42SPEAKER_02: He's such a great human being.
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: And what you know I appreciate is you know, playing against him as a player in Lakeland in the 90s, and then you fast forward to where coach and later in life coach, he didn't forget a thing.
- 35:55SPEAKER_02: You know, there's no ego with all those wins that he stacked up because as a high school athlete, he was larger than life back then.
- 36:01SPEAKER_02: Like it's like you knew you were going to play Dunmore and Coach Hens's, and then he'd be like, hey Danny, what's going on?
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: And he'll talk about that Dunmore Lakeland game, or he'll talk about driving lessons and they're just anything.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: So a lot of respect, and his legend definitely lives on forever there in Dunmore and Coach.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: You're you're gonna have a great experience.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: Your kids are gonna have a great experience.
- 36:19SPEAKER_02: I expect it to be a great football game.
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: I'm predicting a 21-21 tie here.
- 36:24SPEAKER_02: That's what I'm predicting tonight for the listeners.
- 36:28SPEAKER_02: I think this is another prep North Poco no battle here that could go either way.
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: And which team is gonna make those three key plays is gonna be the difference.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: I understand the argument in the chat of Dunmore's strength of schedule, but one of the things I always look for is what do they do in those games?
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: There is no letdowns there.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: And coach, I've watched your team just get better every week and learn from the experiences.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: Seen not as much as I'd like to, but was able to kind of see enough of both teams.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: I think this game's gonna be a battle.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: So gotta handle that speed of Dunmore, Coach.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: It's it's gonna be a great one.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, you know too.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: Uh I mean, they just and you can say whatever you want, I don't care who they're playing, they score points in bunches.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean, you're you're they they had uh 59 points or something at halftime last week, which is a lot of points to score in a high school game in a in a you know uh a short period of time in 24 minutes.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: Um and they do.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, they just have I'm looking at some of the chats about, you know, they're gonna have their hands full.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, Unone's as good as anybody.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: Costanzo's good, they're you know, quarterbacks good, they're they're uh defensively, they fly around, Burke and everybody fly.
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: So they are uh you know as complete a you know uh a smaller school as you'll see around.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: And like I said, they're they're they do, they give teams a handful, and you know, I don't know if it'll be 21-21, it might be 51-51, uh, you know, with the two offenses playing.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: So uh it'll be interesting.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: And like I said, you'll get a really good read.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: I say that even about our kids, you know, uh, you get a good read of how good we are, too, to see how we can do this week.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: 100% there.
- 38:01SPEAKER_02: And I don't know if the listeners in the chat know how good of a game this kind of really matches up.
- 38:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, you got a small school versus a big school.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: Dunmore's got the speed, two both well-coached teams.
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: Dunmore, I do worry, you know, that that home field advantage.
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: I have nightmares of playing at Dunmore there back, you know, back in the day.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be a great one.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: You know, I got I got Dave busting my chops coach.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: Stop it.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: Honesdale's gonna win there.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: We see we had we see Michelle, you know, good.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: She she's confident in her bucks there.
- 38:29SPEAKER_02: Definitely have a tough uh player to handle in your known.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: Good friend um Sarah, former colleague of mine at Lackawanna College.
- 38:38SPEAKER_02: She's she's cheering on the bucks, Sarah.
- 38:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, always wish you well, my friend.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: And then our photographer, I'm getting a little button-happy here, coach.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: I got a little quick trigger on these, but we look forward to having producer Bent Brad back next week.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: But Justin Bradley's gonna be there.
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: So for all the Bucks and all the Hornets, have your drip ready.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: You have a shot at uh the the drip of the week.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: But great game.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna add one more quick thing.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: I'd be remit uh remiss if I didn't say this.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: Gabe Duda, my tailback or my fullback, is about as good as any back they're gonna see all year.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: So I know everybody says you gotta you gotta gear up to defend your known and some of it.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: I'm just telling you, I I think Lakeland got a little dose last week that they didn't, you know, they didn't think was coming.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Gabe Duda is a complete, as complete a back, and I've coached a long time, a lot of great kids at Valley View.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: He's as good as anybody I've ever had.
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: And and you'll get a he'll be on display on Friday.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: So you'll get to see him too, which will be a uh it's a great show for people that haven't seen him play.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I think that's one for the fans.
- 39:36SPEAKER_02: You get you're just gonna get a really good game of football, and that's where we talked a little bit earlier in the show, just take kind of taking a step back and enjoying uh two teams playing their heart out with some very talented backs.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: Gabe Duda has lit it up this year, and it's been a pleasure to watch.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: So, to be continued, listeners.
- 39:52SPEAKER_02: Next next week, to tune in here, we'll find out the results and we'll see where this one goes.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: But there is a lot more great football to be played this week.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: Next one is Granton Prep, six and one at Wallin Pop Pack, five and two, the number one small school, riding the triple overtime high behind Owen Jeffers.
- 40:10SPEAKER_02: Visits a Wall and Pop Pack team that just lost to Admington and needs to steady itself behind Ed Keesendahl and Jake Rafferty.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: Coach, you know, sometimes it's coming tough coming off the high of those triple overtime games and then going on the road.
- 40:23SPEAKER_02: Who we like here?
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: Uh I just think prep's prep is just rolling right now.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: And I said uh last week, I just think they have so many weapons.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: They have, you know, we talked about Jeffers, what he's able to do.
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: Uh McPartland had a uh receiving touchdown uh and a two-point play for the win.
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, they just have a lot of bodies coming at you.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: They're big up front.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: Um, I think they get one of their players back that didn't play last week as well.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: And, you know, Wall and Paul Pack's gonna come at you with Keysendal and Raffrey.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: That's been their two uh, you know, a tailback and a quarterback that's gonna come at you.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: But I just think uh, you know, prep is just too complete, and I don't think they'll have a letdown.
- 40:59SPEAKER_01: So uh I see prep beating Wall and Paul back here.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: Same here.
- 41:03SPEAKER_02: As much as I were I I warn against that letdown coming off of such a big game.
- 41:08SPEAKER_02: Uh, at a minimum, I think maybe a little slow start, but I think there's just too much talent on that prep team, so I'm right with you there.
- 41:14SPEAKER_02: This one I can't pick, but I could set you up with a with a layup here, Coach.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: Abington Heights, three and four at Valley View, five and two.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: Abbington with Jaden English and real momentum after surprising Wall and Popak travels to a Valley View team rolling behind Colin Dempsey, a strong run game.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: Can the Comets make a two wins, a two wins, two statement wins in a row?
- 41:37SPEAKER_02: Coach, who do you have here?
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: Well, I think it's gonna be I think this is gonna be one of the better games of the week.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, these two teams always play each other tough.
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: All the years I coached at Valley View.
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: The games were always close, uh, whether you were home, away, or uh anywhere in between.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: But um Valley View, they got a big score last week.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: This is great for me because my daughter goes to school with all these people at Valley View.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: So I've known some of these kids since they were born.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: Brady Cunningham, uh, first touchdown last week for Valley View, which I know his uh his mom's a big uh big cougar uh for her whole life, and uh I'm sure she's it's a proud moment for her and her husband uh and their daughter for Brady to score his touchdown.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: But Valley View had six different people score last week.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: Uh Rowe, Sprague, Wasilchak, Bachman, Ben Evans, uh Loff goes for a 24-yard field goal, Dempsey 118, and a passing touchdown.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, they got a lot of weapons there of guys doing you know a lot of different things.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: Uh obviously Abington counters, as you know, at Anglin, uh big rushing yardage for him, two touchdowns last week, uh, you know, some passing touchdowns.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: Finally, we talked about the pass game.
- 42:42SPEAKER_01: So I think it's gonna be a close game.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, I'm gonna give the edge to Valley View just because it's at Valley View.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, but I think it's gonna be a really good game.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: Um, but I like I said to you, like I said to you, when you got to go to some of these places to play, it's just they're just tough places to play in.
- 42:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh, a lot of these teams have a really big uh, I think a home field advantage, and I think Valley View is one of the places that'll have that.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: And uh, like I said, but I think it's gonna be a really close game.
- 43:08SPEAKER_01: I don't see this being a blowout or a team winning by 21 points.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be within a six or seven point range somewhere.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: Gotcha.
- 43:16SPEAKER_02: Uh having coach, you know, Coach for Abenton, I can't throw the challenge flag at you, but I did throw the penalty flag at you.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: You know, we had some fun talking before the show, too.
- 43:25SPEAKER_02: This game's like such a conflict of interest.
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: You know, we have the stories of Coach Henses before.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: I got stories of the with Sochaks who coach over there.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: I've never been such closer friends with two guys I want to beat so bad, you know, with that Valley View rivalry, but that all started with their mom.
- 43:39SPEAKER_02: And I know you know you're you're close with the Sochaks and you and you know their mom, and you know, in high school coach, you know, there's those certain people that impact your life.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: And and there's a couple coaches I can name, and we'll talk about them in future shows.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: But I remember being in gym class, and you know, we say any athlete loves structure and discipline and wants to be coached.
- 43:56SPEAKER_02: If you're not being coached, then you know there's something wrong.
- 43:59SPEAKER_02: And Man, she pulled me to the side and she says, Young man, I hear you're a really good athlete, but if you don't behave, you know, she gave it to me.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: And I was scared of Miss Wissoch.
- 44:08SPEAKER_02: You know, I might not have been scared of many people, but I was a Miss Wasachak.
- 44:11SPEAKER_02: And um, you know, appreciate her to this day.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: I told her boys that story.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: And uh again, it's gonna be fun pregame, but then once that whistle blows, it's gonna be the most competitive couple hours there.
- 44:21SPEAKER_02: Valley View and Abington.
- 44:23SPEAKER_02: Jaden England, who you mentioned, coach, I mentioned earlier, passed the 1,000-yard rushing mark.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: He's now chasing 3,000 in his career.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: He's got a shot in these next, you know, final games if he could get there.
- 44:33SPEAKER_02: Rodman Azar at wide receivers been stepping up.
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: He had a big touchdown last week.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: And these teams, they have a lot of athletes.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: So this is going to be a good one.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: But we know Valley View is not an easy place to play either.
- 44:45SPEAKER_02: Just so much football tradition there.
- 44:46SPEAKER_02: Maybe I'll get some Andy's Pizza before the game.
- 44:49SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 44:50SPEAKER_02: Um, but look, looking forward to this one very much Friday night, 7 p.m.
- 44:54SPEAKER_02: Other great games to see.
- 44:56SPEAKER_02: North Pocono, 6-1, coming off a tough one to Delaware Valley, 2-5.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: North Pocono, stunned by its first loss, is gonna look to regroup on the road behind Chase Zimmerman against a Dell Val team coming off a 55 shutout of Scranton.
- 45:10SPEAKER_02: And Scranton we know is young coach, but this may be the game Delaware Valley needed, and they're at home.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think uh, like I said, I think they're getting they get Estevez back.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: He had three touchdowns last week, so he's uh back doing what he did uh prior to being out.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: Uh Orby's done a nice job for them, uh quarterback, and then um they got two touchdowns from uh Kizes, which is uh big for them because it gives them another weapon.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: And then North Pocono's North Pocono.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, we've been talking about them.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: They're gonna come with Wolf, Zimmerman, uh West, uh, I'm sure he'll play this week again.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: So I just think at the end of the day, North Pocono, too many athletes.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: I don't think, I think that loss last week to prep will be like I said, when we lost to them, that big eye opener for them.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: Where, and I don't know, I'm not so sure they needed an eye opener because they're good enough to beat most teams without that.
- 45:57SPEAKER_01: But I think this will be a reset uh moment for them, and they'll come back this week and uh get back to what they do best.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: That's putting a lot of points on the board, not giving up a lot.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: So I see North Pocono winning this game over D V.
- 46:09SPEAKER_02: I'm with you there in the prediction.
- 46:10SPEAKER_02: I think D V's gonna give them everything they've got.
- 46:13SPEAKER_02: I think they're ready for their best game, and I think they'll make this maybe a little more competitive, but just I see too much talent as well on North Pocono and see them going to seven and one.
- 46:22SPEAKER_02: We will see.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: Another one, Mid Valley 4-3 at my alma mater Lakeland Chiefs 6-1.
- 46:28SPEAKER_02: Mid Valley is surging after upsetting Riverside coach uh Lakeland with Chase Rosencranz filling in for Potius, is trying to bounce back from that loss against your team.
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: I think you kind of hinted at it that that, you know, another week with Chase at quarterback.
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: Do they get back rolling or is this a dangerous spot for the Chiefs?
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be a tough game just because of what Mid Valley is good at doing.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: That's running the ball.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: We did a pretty good job of that last week.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, Barnaskis is gonna be tough to stop.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: Uh he ran for 158 and two touchdowns.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: Uh, they can score points on the ground, which I think will give uh Lakeland fits.
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: But I just think uh when Lakeland, I think Lake Win will get back to the basics now with that offense uh with Rosencrans in there.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: Uh he threw for 147 against us last week and two touchdowns.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: And I think they'll get better as he gets another week of practice.
- 47:16SPEAKER_01: So um I think they'll get back to scoring a lot of points again, and I just don't know if Mid Valley can keep up with the point total.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: So uh I'm gonna take Lakewin this game.
- 47:25SPEAKER_02: I'm with you.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: I'm back behind my Chiefs there.
- 47:28SPEAKER_02: I think they can bounce back again, back at home.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: It is so hard adjusting to your third quarterback of the year.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: They're doing that.
- 47:36SPEAKER_02: Um, they'll look to reset this week and get back to their winning ways.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: Riverside, 5-2 at Western Wayne, 3-4.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: Riverside off its own, upset loss to Mid-Valley.
- 47:46SPEAKER_02: Do they have not sure Braden Rose, that that injury is the big factor that you talked about earlier, versus a Western Wayne team led by quarterback Jake Rodek.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: Who do we like here, coach?
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna take Riverside here.
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: I just think they'll be able to run the ball against uh Western Wayne, even if Rose isn't able to play.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: Uh Western Wayne has a lot of guys dinged up, which I think hurts them a little bit on both sides of the ball.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: But they do, they have a lot of good weapons.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, they're able to do some things, but I just think Riverside's good enough up front, I think, and I think they have enough athletes to kind of uh counteract what Western Wayne's gonna do.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna take Riverside in this one.
- 48:19SPEAKER_02: Coach, I didn't expect you to agree with me there.
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: Like I, you know, I challenge, I said Riverside should be higher in those rankings.
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: I thought you were gonna pick Western Wayne here, so that I think that supports my challenge flag earlier.
- 48:29SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure, but we're both on the same sheet of music there with Riverside.
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: From from here, we go around the district, rapid fire.
- 48:36SPEAKER_02: Coach, Lake Lehman three-four at Wyoming area, five-and-two, a ranked small school matchup.
- 48:42SPEAKER_02: Number five visits number three, Wyoming area favorite at home.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: And this is another one of those, like I said, Lake Lehman plays a tough schedule.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, I just think they play a lot of really, really good football teams.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, Harris and Albee's been doing a nice job for them uh running the football.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: But Kapetchny, uh Morris, uh Favada, Kadroski have done a really great job for them offensively, and they're able to put up a lot of points now.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: Like I said, Kapetchny's really uh evolved and uh matured in that role as a quarterback there at Wyoming area after moving from uh receiver.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna take Wyoming area again, another one of those places that's tough to win at.
- 49:19SPEAKER_01: Um I'm not saying I don't not say they'll blow them out, but I think Wyoming area is getting stronger and stronger, making a really nice push uh for the district playoffs here.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: So I see them uh big win over Lake Lehman.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: How about Crestwood 1-6 at Dallas 7-0?
- 49:35SPEAKER_02: Undefeated top-ranked Dallas should roll against the one and six Crestwood squad.
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I said, I don't see Dallas losing a game.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: Uh they'll be 10-0.
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: Uh Mason uh had 150 yards receiving, two touchdowns, punt return, touchdown.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: Uh Tom Fostock, 87 rushing yards and a touchdown.
- 49:53SPEAKER_01: They have so many weapons.
- 49:54SPEAKER_01: Uh Crestwood's gonna come at you with Jekyll.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: He's gonna run the ball uh in that offense.
- 49:59SPEAKER_01: And uh they got two touchdowns from Taylor to Rogers in the air, which is big for them.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: But uh, I just think it's gonna be too much.
- 50:05SPEAKER_01: They have to go to Dallas.
- 50:07SPEAKER_01: Uh Dallas will beat Crestwood.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: Montreux 4-3.
- 50:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Carbondale also four and three.
- 50:14SPEAKER_02: Is this a true coin flip for playoff positioning?
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: No.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: Uh Carbonel has too many athletes.
- 50:19SPEAKER_01: They don't, they just Carbondale's good.
- 50:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're they're gonna uh they're gonna be a tough matchup against any of these teams that they're playing now in their next couple weeks.
- 50:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, I don't see Carbonell lose another game.
- 50:30SPEAKER_01: I see them ending up at 7-3.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: Um Vogelino, uh Roman are just two uh bruising backs to do a lot for them.
- 50:37SPEAKER_01: Running back kicks, uh catch and pass out of the backfield.
- 50:42SPEAKER_01: Um I just Montrose's been struggling a little bit.
- 50:44SPEAKER_01: The last couple weeks are kind of coming down to earth a little bit.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: So uh Carbonell over Montrose here.
- 50:51SPEAKER_02: Coach Pitston area four and three at Wilkesbury two and five.
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: Pittston above 500.
- 50:56SPEAKER_02: Visits a Wilkesbury team coming off an upset of Valley West.
- 51:00SPEAKER_01: This will be an interesting game if because I don't know if Wilkesbury can stop Pittston.
- 51:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, but if they can play decent defense, I think they're gonna have a chance.
- 51:08SPEAKER_01: Uh Pittston, Lepresto, and uh Ferrentino have just done a great job for them.
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: Like I said, they're putting up tons of points.
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, Gilmore's been doing well for Wilkesbury.
- 51:18SPEAKER_01: They've played really good defense against certain teams.
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: They've had a stop.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: So if the defense comes to play, I think it's gonna be a uh a really, really good football game.
- 51:26SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm gonna take Pittston here just because I don't know if uh if Wilkesbury can keep up with that high-powered offense.
- 51:34SPEAKER_02: Wyoming Valley West, 4-3 at Hazleton, 1-6.
- 51:38SPEAKER_02: Wyoming Valley West looks to rebound from the Wilkesbury loss against the 1-6 Hazleton squad.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: Hazleton's been playing pretty good football.
- 51:45SPEAKER_01: They've been uh in a lot of games.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: Uh I don't think they'll be able to beat Wyoming Valley West.
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna take Wyoming Valley West here.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: Eastman is just uh really good throwing the football.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: I think they'll have a hard time uh stopping them, but they have Lantigua on the other side, so this will be an air raid kind of game.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: But uh I see Wyoming Valley West beating Hazleton here.
- 52:06SPEAKER_02: West Scranton 2-5 at Scranton 0-7.
- 52:10SPEAKER_02: And early kickoff, but we have two struggling programs.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: It's a six o'clock Friday night game, two struggling programs.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: Scranton still seeks its first win.
- 52:19SPEAKER_02: Could this rivalry game coach maybe Scranton get one?
- 52:23SPEAKER_01: The bell.
- 52:24SPEAKER_01: Remember the bell game?
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: Like you'd have these bell games, it would be uh uh an event, right?
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, I feel bad for the uh teams this year just because they're both kind of struggling, but it's still a big game uh for Scranton.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna take West Scranton in this game.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: I just think Sastre is really gonna be tough to defend.
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: Uh Scranton's had a hard time stopping anybody.
- 52:42SPEAKER_01: They have McCandre to Manning through the air that they've had for the last couple weeks, which will be big for them.
- 52:47SPEAKER_01: But uh I think the game will be close.
- 52:49SPEAKER_01: They're almost always close.
- 52:50SPEAKER_01: Uh but I'm gonna have I have Westside over Scranton.
- 52:53SPEAKER_02: The Battle of the Bell.
- 52:54SPEAKER_02: It should be a fun one there as always.
- 52:56SPEAKER_02: Great rivalry.
- 52:57SPEAKER_02: And Scranton, if there was ever a chance, this is it.
- 53:00SPEAKER_02: We'll see what happens.
- 53:01SPEAKER_02: William Sport, 5-2 at Berwick, 4-3.
- 53:04SPEAKER_02: Berwick hosts a non-league test as it pushes itself for playoff points.
- 53:08SPEAKER_02: William Sport off a tough loss to Shemokan area.
- 53:11SPEAKER_01: William Sport's good.
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think they'll give Berwick fits.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna take William Sport in this game.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: Uh, they have Tevin Williams, who pretty much does everything for them as a quarterback.
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, and Berwick missing Cleaver, I think, has been huge for them.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: Uh Gavin uh Galucia had 143 yards, two touchdowns, Caleb Yost, 33-yard field goal for Berwick, but they haven't really been scoring a lot of points.
- 53:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, so I'm gonna take William Sport here.
- 53:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think the game will be a good game, but I see Williamsport winning.
- 53:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you saw the uh news last week either.
- 53:41SPEAKER_01: They just redid their football facility.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: If you ever get a chance to go on, I saw uh I think WNEP was doing a uh story on it the other day.
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: They put in like a big football facility with meeting rooms and all this uh these things in there.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: It is an unbelievable complex, which I think uh any team would be be uh you know wishing and dying for if they could get it.
- 54:03SPEAKER_02: I highlighted that in my notes, and I definitely will check that out.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: And I'm glad you brought that up.
- 54:08SPEAKER_02: And I'm not gonna mention school districts here tonight, Coach Wanitz, but I have visited some school districts this year where if you're out there listening, parents, we have gone to some districts, one of them where we go, our guys have to go into the locker room.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: There's not even a door on a stall for the kids to use a restroom.
- 54:25SPEAKER_02: All right, and this is at a big name school.
- 54:28SPEAKER_02: And then, you know, just some of these facilities, we got to start fundraising.
- 54:32SPEAKER_02: School board members, if you're out there listening, like I get finances are tough, and we're we might not all be able to get state of the art like William sport, but we gotta do a little better for our kids with some of these facilities on the road.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: Coach, would you agree with that?
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it's uh I just think it's tough.
- 54:46SPEAKER_01: I think uh financially and fiscally for a lot of schools, it's you know, they're they're big budget items that a lot of and listen, we all love sports, but there's a lot of people that don't like sports in communities.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: So if you say you're gonna spend you know millions of dollars on a sports complex or sports this, uh, some people don't like that.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: But it's you know, I just think with how big sports are in our area, I think everybody should kind of make a push for that.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: And it's good for all the athletes, especially if multiple sports use the like I know at at Homestead, we have you know four sports at a time up on our turf, and the baseball team uses it, softball team.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: So a lot of people using it's been a you know a great thing up there, but uh, you know, and I'd even I'm even pushing for them to uh upgrade some of our facilities up there, which I hope will happen while I'm there.
- 55:29SPEAKER_01: I think everybody wants that because again, so many people can get use out of it.
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think it's great for any schools in our area.
- 55:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and some things take time.
- 55:37SPEAKER_02: You know, we talk about you know turf fields and facilities, but but I'm talking about a bathroom door, Coach.
- 55:42SPEAKER_02: Like, like I'm used to Lackawanna College where the visiting team comes in and we greet them there and make sure they have everything they need.
- 55:50SPEAKER_02: And here we go there and there's like poor lighting, and just again, those those things just irk me.
- 55:54SPEAKER_02: We got we gotta do better high school sports for for our kids in some of these facilities.
- 55:59SPEAKER_02: All right, I digress.
- 56:01SPEAKER_02: Coach, we shift Northwest four and three at Nanacoke, one and six.
- 56:06SPEAKER_02: Nanakos hosts a non-league opponent looking for a spark, the Northwest Area Rangers.
- 56:11SPEAKER_02: I just wanted to say that so bad tonight, coach.
- 56:13SPEAKER_02: Northwest Area Rangers started four and oh, but they've lost three straight.
- 56:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm gonna take Northwest in this game.
- 56:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think they're young, but they've been playing good football.
- 56:22SPEAKER_01: Um, Nana Coke's definitely been getting better.
- 56:24SPEAKER_01: They'll Chet Beggs, uh, 232 yards passing last week and three touchdowns.
- 56:29SPEAKER_01: So they're getting a little bit of offense going, but I just think Northwest has got a little bit of history behind them.
- 56:34SPEAKER_01: They're uh, you know, they've been doing this for a while with games like this, and I think they'll come out on top here.
- 56:40SPEAKER_02: Hanover area one and six at the Shemokin area Indians, 7-0.
- 56:45SPEAKER_02: Hanover off its first win takes a non-league road trip.
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: Not a road trip you want to take.
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna tell you that one.
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: Uh Shemokin's legit, right?
- 56:53SPEAKER_01: They're they're one of the better teams in the state.
- 56:56SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, they got 16 touchdowns from Logan Steele, their quarterback, and they they got a running back, uh, Noah Ringus, that averages about 115 yards rushing a game.
- 57:06SPEAKER_01: So uh this is not gonna be a fun trip for Hanover.
- 57:10SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, after getting their first win last week, I think they're gonna be stuck on one.
- 57:13SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna take Schmok in here.
- 57:16SPEAKER_02: We shift to Saturday, three games left here.
- 57:19SPEAKER_02: Old Forge 2-5 at an 0-7 Susquehanna.
- 57:22SPEAKER_02: Old Forge off the Montrose upset.
- 57:25SPEAKER_02: Do they keep do they get back uh win number three here for Old Forge, Coach?
- 57:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think they're starting to figure it out, right?
- 57:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're uh they're getting some guys back, guys playing really well.
- 57:36SPEAKER_01: Uh Gotowski, 111 and two touchdowns rushing last week.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: Parker Hart had a rushing and a passing touchdown.
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: Uh Susquehanna's just been struggling, scoring points.
- 57:46SPEAKER_01: So uh I'm gonna take Old Forge here uh at Susquehanna on Saturday.
- 57:51SPEAKER_02: The other Saturday game at 1 p.m.
- 57:53SPEAKER_02: is Lackawanna Trail, 2-5 at Holy Cross, 2-5.
- 57:56SPEAKER_02: Both teams scrapping for momentum down the stretch.
- 57:59SPEAKER_01: Trail's got it going.
- 58:00SPEAKER_01: I told you they were gonna get some guys back, and it's showed the last couple weeks.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna take Trail here, even though Rakowski, I think, is one of the better quarterbacks uh in the area, and he's been going to Luca Barardi a lot.
- 58:11SPEAKER_01: He had nine receptions for 152 and a touchdown.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: Uh, I don't even know if I threw nine times in four games in uh at Valley View.
- 58:20SPEAKER_01: My senior year, this kid has nine receptions in one game.
- 58:23SPEAKER_01: Um, but again, I just think Trail with that wing T is tough to stop.
- 58:28SPEAKER_01: And uh getting their guys back, uh Coach Jervis will have them kind of doing what they normally do at Trail.
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: And I see them making a push now, uh a little run into the playoffs.
- 58:37SPEAKER_02: Final one, Coach Tunkanick, one and six at Holy Redeemer, three and four.
- 58:42SPEAKER_02: Redeemer off a win over Nanokoke.
- 58:44SPEAKER_02: What do you have here?
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: Redeemer has one of the better quarterbacks.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: We saw him in our fit of the week or athlete of the week last week.
- 58:50SPEAKER_01: Brady McDermott, uh 254 passing last week, three touchdowns.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: Uh Caden Sakoski had 223 uh yards receiving last week uh with three touchdowns.
- 59:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's that's unbelievable.
- 59:03SPEAKER_01: Um, and and again, Tunkanic just struggles a little bit, scoring some points.
- 59:07SPEAKER_01: Carter, Latwinski, uh two guys for them that get their offense going.
- 59:11SPEAKER_01: But uh I see Redeemer uh beating Tunkanic here.
- 59:16SPEAKER_02: One quick ask before we wrap.
