[upbeat music] Get those foots tapping, tapping, tapping, tapping, tapping. Get those feet tapping.
0:16
It's Full Spectrum Cycling, number 77. Show 77. 77. Hey. Sunset Strip. And- [laughs] Talk amongst yourselves Yeah... did you happen to notice what I posted on the books of Face today?
0:30
That is not something I keep track of. Actually, it was down for a little while today. Oh, darn. I don't know if it was widely reported, but [laughs] I wanted to go look at any adulations.
0:40
[laughs] Oh, for your own damn self? Yeah. Would you take a look at that? Oh, yeah. Oh, I did see that. And would you look at what number I am. Anthony Burger, number 77. Oh, Lord. How coinkidink. Life- Oh...
0:51
lifetime member of the public eyes. That's, that, that, that, that, that, that's chaos. That's chaos. Yes, it is. [laughs] You know what else is chaos? JK to my right and- Yeah... Tony across the table. Hi.
1:03
[laughs] It's also 9:9 here when we're doing this show. Yeah. Yeah. Which means it's... JK's birthday. JK's birthday. Ah, la, la, la. Big cubic arms. Yeah. Happy birthday to you. And many more. I thank you, I do.
1:19
I thank you, I do. Oh, you know what we- I thank you. I, rebbe, rebbe, rebbe, I thank you, I do. We could've got singing Mike to come in here and give you a, a- Oh, [laughs] shit... happy birthday. I can...
1:28
Just the reference, I already hear it. [laughs] It's, it's ringing. [laughs] I don't know how well he's doing. He got hit by a car. Yeah. Oh, no.
1:36
Not, I haven't heard anything to the ill, so- Well, I saw him, but he's seems a little slower than before- Sure... which was fairly- Well, if you get your egg scrambled... fairly slow to begin with. Mm. So.
1:47
Hey, how about that weather out there today? It's nice and cool. Yeah. Shop's finally cooling off. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mist tent, a little more aggressive than I wanted it to be on the ride here, but manageable.
1:57
I'm just very, very moist. It's- [laughs] Damp and moist... moist, moist, meow, meow. [laughs] Stop it. There's a- That'll be in the links. Yeah. There's a- In the notes... there's a WAP parody on the old YouTubes.
2:11
Moist, moist, meow, meow. Meow, meow. Uh-huh. Ooh. Might wanna go check that out if you're not a Cardi B fan. It'll make you really happy. Which [clears throat] probably nobody knows who Cardi B is. Right.
2:22
Not in our crowd [laughs] that listens to this. With, with our... Yeah, we have a young audience here. Well, there are some teenagers out there. They have some kids that are- Kobe stopped in... into Cardi B...
2:28
he said, he said he loves our show. Yeah. I don't know why. Well, he bought some real tools. Yeah. Yeah, he did. Been hounding him on that for a while. Way to go, Kobe. Right.
2:36
And he needs some, he needs a bigger gear on that bike, I guess, apparently, so we're gonna put a bigger gear up on there. Mm-hmm. Make it go faster. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. 'Cause he goes faster. He's a fast rider. Fast rider.
2:50
Fast rider. Young kid. So JK, birthday, what's that all about? Bought yourself that Lowside for a birthday present? Yes, yes. Nice. Just keep spackling things onto it. [laughs] Yeah. Figuring little- That's-... little,
3:03
little things I want- You're digging it?... Sandcan to do. Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. Did you ride tonight? I didn't see. Mm-hmm. Oh, nice, nice. Yeah. Meow, meow.
3:11
Now you got it all- I, I had to pick up a- Now you got it all wet. It's, it, it cannot be returned 'cause it's gotten moist. Yeah. Moist. And when I- [laughs] Yeah.
3:18
[laughs] And I, uh- Show said, he said- And, and, and one of the-... moist... and, and one of the Lowside stickers kinda squooshed up a bit in the, uh, [laughs] bike rack traveling. It's lost half its value. Oh, boy.
3:30
I bet we could get more stickers if we wanted. Yeah. It's still, it's only on the W. It look, just looks like a shrunken W. Like it's- It's pinching your- Speaking of Surly's-... pinching the head.
3:40
Crushing, crushing you. You know, Surly's- Not crushing, pinching... we should throw a shout-out for Aaron for moving to go work for SRAM. Oh, don't mind. Oh, yeah. Is that, is that the, in Chicago?
3:51
I don't know where that is. Well, SRAM, yeah, their headquarters is there. Yeah, SRAM. But he's, he's- But he may be able to work remotely... yeah, I don't know. Who knows? He's leaving Minneapolis.
3:59
Yeah, that's- Oh, well, there you go... oh. Maybe there's somewhere else where they can live. Chicago's spendy. Yeah. Yeah, and- That could be hasslely... I wouldn't really want...
4:07
I mean, I don't mind riding in large urban environments, but Chicago can get really dicey depending on where you are. Mm-hmm. You have to be very aggressive, and I'm not a very aggressive rider.
4:16
Unless somebody decides to take me on some goddamn off-road trail on s- 28C slicks. [laughs] I think we... Did we get any pictures of you on a, on the b- on the ballast of the [laughs] railroad track? No.
4:27
[laughs] That was, that was brutal. Well, it was another s- Yeah. It was another Steel Is Real. That, that gives me a little moment of... There's a couple things in there that give me a little eh.
4:36
Well, that bridge, the railroad bridge, is a little sketchy. Yeah. Fortunately, two trains went by right before we got to it- [laughs]... so I figured we were all right. Yeah.
4:44
But, so we did another Steel Is Real, basically maintenance type ride- Yeah... and recon route. Yeah, Oscar's route. So yeah, Oscar's stop on the flip flop. The idea was to get rid of some of the really
5:00
bad things that make you pause on the ride inside- Yeah... the, in the, uh- Couple of branches... the culvert. Yeah. Excuse me. What do you call that thing? A culvert? Yeah, I think that's a culvert. Drainage ditch?
5:10
Water runner. It's a crick. It used to be a crick- It might-... but now it's all concrete crick. Yeah, I bet you today was pretty ragin', you know, with all the rain.
5:17
I'm curious how much water's gonna be in there and- Yeah... if we're gonna be l- able to go in the tunnel part or not, the actual underground portion. Oh. 'Cause the water was a little higher this week. Oh, it was.
5:28
Yeah, it was. So Tony managed to do this. Uh, although I would, I would recommend people on Steel Is Real, if you wanna do the alt route, bring a mountain bike. Yeah.
5:35
Tony did it on 28 thick slicks, though, so it can be done. Don't recommend it. Do not at all recommend it. [laughs] I, on the other hand, was on the boar electric fat bike, which did it famously.
5:48
[laughs] Yeah, that was no sweat at all, oddly enough. [laughs] That's- And so I've been kinda s- struggling on how to write a report on this.
5:56
Tony's gonna write something up, too, on it, but I, I'm gonna break it into part one will be boar 604, surface 604 boar as urban assault vehicle Because that's basically what we've been doing with it so far.
6:09
Yeah, totally. And then part two will be, will be dirt and, and then winter, snow stuff- Yeah... and see what it does for that. You know, it's not the first time we've had a Surface 604 bike in, and- Right...
6:21
it kinda has been, um, updated and, and is better than the original, but uh- Massaged. Yeah. We're gonna have to go ahead- Yeah... and get a story up there. I believe you said that- Hey, John, we'll get her up there.
6:32
Just- I believe you said that, um, riding it in gear one, in, in s- pedal assist one is like riding a regular old fat bike. Yeah, it kinda takes away the extra- But-... weight and whatnot...
6:43
the weight and the beefiness of it, but- And we went 30, not quite 30, 27 miles or something. To, and, uh, it only used about 40 some percent of the battery. Right.
6:52
Which I wasn't using it the whole time, but to be fair, I was using it- It's pretty fun... sometimes 'cause it's pretty fun. Yeah. You know, it's supposed to be 20 mile an hour limit for your, uh, your law- It's-...
7:05
abiding citizens. Yeah. But it does have an unlock code. And it, even with no pedaling, just goosing it, it, it does like 25, 26. Yeah. Which is pretty fast for a, a big old fat bike.
7:17
As the, uh, path-letes on the bike path noticed as they- [laughs]... kept trying to pull away from us- [laughs] Yeah... and you just kept staying on their tail. Yeah, he goes, uh, "Oh, electric bike, it's cheating."
7:26
I go, "I'm reviewing it, you know, for a website." Yeah. And he goes, "Oh, okay." And then I'm behind him going rarr, rarr, rarr, rarr. [laughs] For like a couple of miles. Yeah, while they were trying to spin away.
7:36
It wasn't working. And they were, yeah, they were trying to get going a little faster, you'd just give it a little more. Yeah. And there was a little bridge where they had to exert a little bit, and it's like, ah.
7:42
Yeah, we was like da, da, da, da. You guys are going slow. Then I passed them. [laughs] Silly, silly e-bike people. But, uh, JK, uh, birthday trip. Did you make a trip on your birthday? Did you go on a birthday trip?
7:57
Uh, not necessarily for the birthday. It was just a- Co-inky-dink? Yeah. A pre, like a pre Labor Day. Get the hell out of Dodge and into Zion, which probably have been better served in Dodge. [laughs] [laughs] But
8:12
financially at least. Well, I do like that hotel down there. That's a nice hotel, huh? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did I show you the, uh, the crazy, uh, um, [clicks tongue] the hot tub? Yes.
8:24
With the lower, uh- Like because the water was low in the hot tub? Oh, yeah. And the jets were- The jets were out of the water. Oh, my God. [laughs] That'd be weird. And brilliantly, oh, my God. Oh, my God.
8:33
Oh, it was just, yeah, it... Yeah. Actually, just as a point of reference, and if we do it like that- Whoa... we do it like there, and then that's the reaction. That's a powered bidet is what that is. Yeah.
8:44
Yeah, for sure. You know? Get your armpits all clean with that thing. Yeah, I'd say. It was right around the time of that area being closed as such. Oh.
8:53
And we could have stuck around probably for another half hour, hour, 'cause nobody was saying anything except that thing [laughs] was talking. Brr, brr. It's like, oh, shit, people are gonna come in. Mm-hmm.
9:05
But yeah, it was a, it was a good excursion. That, I, I do like that hotel. And- Did a little bike riding down there, did ya? Yeah. Got a good little eight mile total.
9:20
It's about four, four and a half miles into the town. That, that's some serious- Kinda the top end-... eight miles. Yeah, through the, uh, through the park. Yeah. Yeah. Through the park is a fun ride.
9:28
Ilwaco Beach State Park. Well, and you couldn't take the, uh, I mean, I guess you could, um... Not who I was riding with. Um, [laughs]
9:37
the, uh, the path that's normally along the lake that goes all the way to the north, and then you're, you have to kick in- Oh, yep... uh, that was just sand washed. I mean, g- good couple inches. Wow. And craggy as hell.
9:50
Like you could- I mean, it was un, it was uncomfortable even with a, you know, three-inch, three-inch wide. It was still like, uh, this is, this is, would just be like a mile of annoyance. Yeah.
10:00
Is this due to, uh, wave action? Yeah. Or is it... Oh, wow. Yeah, yeah. Well, that's- Wow... that lake is high. Yeah.
10:05
I, I was on, uh, Lincoln Memorial Drive, which is our, right along the lake, like Lake Shore Drive in Chicago kinda drive.
10:12
And when you're in your vehicle and you're looking out at the water, it almost looks like you're lower than the water now. Oh, sure.
10:18
Which you obviously are not quite because you're not driving in the water, but- Right... I remember that being a much different view- Oh, yeah...
10:26
being that it's now several feet higher than it had been in just, I don't know, eight years ago or whenever it was. It's very interesting. It, if it keeps going up, it's gonna get onto Lincoln Memorial regularly. Mm-hmm.
10:38
Right, right. Yeah, one of the stops over there, well, the northern stop, The Pit Stop, perfectly aptly named, uh, everyday special of, uh, what is it, $4 double tall mixer of your poison. Oh. Yeah.
10:56
That was at The Pit Stop? Yeah. Isn't that where, uh, what's her name from, um, Local H? No, Fritz's Corner. Oh, yeah. Oh, shit, we didn't hit Fritz's Corner on the way out. Fritz's Corner, yeah, that's not a...
11:05
Well, I suppose you could ride your bike there, but it's kind of- Oh, hell yeah... it's kind of on the way out of town- Yeah... when you're, when you're leaving Zion. Yeah, it's on a fringe, yeah.
11:11
But shit, completely flaked on that. Oh, yeah, 'cause we went north after that to the Kenosha Velodrome. Ice, ice meow meow. Meow meow. And through the blight. [laughs] The- Oh, the, yeah.
11:23
I didn't even think about it- Foxconn... 'cause we took 32 north. Is that eerie as shit? Oh, my Lord. Not, not Foxconn. No. The, no, no, no, no, no. The, the- The burned-... protesting area...
11:31
the burned out, uh- Oh, yeah... the burned out, uh- Yeah... car dealership. Ah. And it was like, oh- And, and Camera Star... shit. It wasn't VWs was it? I don't know what the hell they were. But
11:40
I thought about it as we were approaching. I'm just like, "Oh, shit, we're going through Kenosha." And then look right and boom, I'm like, "Oh, yeah, yeah." 'Cause I'm trying to find the damn velodrome.
11:49
75th and whatever it is. Yeah. And you know what? That- Unbelievable. Is it VeloOME or veloDROME? Drome. Drome. Drome. Okay. Uh, excuse me. Washington, Washington Park. Yeah.
11:59
Uh, not, not, not, not, not, not that great for f- uh, fat bikes. Did you ride on the velodrome? Yeah. [laughs] And n- no, it's, no, no, no. It's- That's more for your track- Well-... your track bike crowd... yeah.
12:11
And you just have this eerie feeling like you're-... going to fall Your tires are gonna just swim right out from under- Yeah... you. Oh, you know- 'Cause they're odd, like- You know where else you feel that?
12:19
You know where else you feel that? When you're riding a culvert- Oh, yes... on 28 Cs and there's a lot of moss. Oh, shit. Even on threes. Moss, moss baby.
12:27
I, hey, I, yeah, that was, that was, that was, it was- I can see that feeling. Yeah. That's, uh, that's not a good feeling. Yeah. Well, you're not going fast enough to get the G-forces to stay up on the bank and turn.
12:37
Right. Exactly, exactly. Yeah. But, you know, it was worth doing and- When they used to have one of those at Brown Deer Park here,
12:44
and they, it kinda went to hell, and they didn't really pave it well, so they didn't really use it anymore for bikes.
12:50
But they had a, they had an autocross race where you started outside of the thing, did some stuff, went in and went around the whole velodrome, and then back out again in the winter in the snow. Nice. Huh.
13:03
Which was a good use of said track- Yeah... I think. Now it's completely buried or there's just, like, a mound there now. Right. Sad to see a velodrome go bye-bye. Huh, huh. Yeah.
13:15
And then head further north, hit Racine, Toad Hall. Right. Racine's version of a Swing Door in my opinion. Oh, interesting way to look at it. Yeah. I mean, it just- We almost stopped there. They weren't open that day...
13:24
there's, like, the decor is very similar, kinda darker and whatever. Yeah. Small, not much seating, but very clever menu. And, yeah. Mm-hmm. Good stuff. Beef jerky on the menu here at the show tonight. Oh.
13:38
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Speaking of which. I chompy, chompy on beef jerky. Oh, JK's reaching into his bag of fun for something. Reaching into his bag of fun. JK's brought a, appears to have brought out a bag of bacon.
13:52
It is birthday bacon. It's birthday bacon. Oh, nice. Yeah. Makin'- JK has brought us some birthday bacon, and I'm not gonna shy away from that one bit. Makin' birthday bacon. Yep.
14:02
So any other, uh, exciting things happen there this week? Made clam chowder today. That, yeah. [laughs] That's why I have extra bacon. [laughs] So, you put bacon, put bacon in your chowder? Hell yeah. Oh, yeah. Chowder.
14:14
So what else exciting happened down there at the old park? That's peppery. Oh, uh, uh, learned that, uh, Illinois State Park, uh, is a no boozer hall of any kind whatsoever.
14:27
So you're- Pursuant to a $195 fine, and it would be per person- Wow... depending on the vigor and zestiness of Ranger Rick in question. Wow. I saw- Actually, it was about to be a warning, and I just kinda- [laughs]
14:45
You escalated it? Well, y- I guess I did. I, I don't know. I, I, [laughs] people... Yes, I guess. Yes, I- I mean, I, duh, duh, duh. What other p- I think he's trying to say yes. Yeah.
14:57
Well, I'm not gonna admit that I did. I mean, 'cause it was like, well, I'm, oh- Well, especially if the, the magistrate down there listens to the show. Oh, yeah, right. [laughs] And yeah, it's just this thing.
15:07
I mean- He goes, "Could you call in next week?" Well, yeah. Well, his, his logic it was faulty, you know? "Oh, I see a bunch of people with koozies. I know what's up." I'm like, "It could be a soda, man."
15:21
My hands are cold. And is, uh, is beer really alcohol? Well, that was kinda my point, and it wasn't, it wasn't, it wasn't registering. He was, he was out for blood.
15:30
And if it wasn't, like, if it wasn't me, it would've been someone else in our group. That needle was gonna drop on someone. [laughs] You know, so it, I mean, it was like, "Okay, music stops.
15:39
Guess who doesn't have a chair? Yay, me. All right, win musical chairs." Well, at least, uh, it sounds like he followed the protocol of your koozie, which- Yeah... did say- Do not arrest... do not arrest this person.
15:50
[laughs] Yes. But it's a non-traffic- Thank you, sir... it's a non-traffic, none, whatever, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So it's, like, a, a big- You just gave- It's a big ass library fine. You gave Illinois 200 bucks.
16:00
Not yet. Well, you will. Right. Well, there's- No... there's another- I'm gonna, I get to contest it, and then get it reduced or dism- dismissed. And then if there's, if it's whatever it is, just collect
16:11
one ninth or eighth or however many people were there and say- No, I'll just use that in the, uh, familial and emotional currency and [laughs] keep that in the vault. [laughs] I paid your fine. I paid your fine, man.
16:24
He, he, he could have, he could have issued one to every one of you. You don't understand it. It's too busy with paperwork. And the guy was right in my face. Not really. That's why I was able to take a picture.
16:33
[laughs] So- So the coordinates are, goddammit... in more Zion news today- Yeah. Oh, yeah... apparently, Mr. Chris Daisy sold Zion Cyclery. Yeah. What? That, that was surprising. Yeah. I'm not sure.
16:46
Has that been in his family forever? It has. Not- They, it, I don't, I have- Not anymore... I don't know what the person- I, he, I, he- Did he sell it to Trek?
16:54
He, I don't know if he talked about it on, uh, Gomez just dropped a Danger Gnome show, and he's on there. I don't know if he talked about it on there, but basic idea was it was such a good year, and it made sense.
17:06
Oh, okay. Like a lot of bike shops, you know, he blasted through all of his inventory and didn't have to re-up if he sells it, you know? So- Right... that's a significant, uh, investment for a shop of his size. Yeah.
17:17
Yeah. It's a b- was, well, it's a big shop. It's not going away. It's gonna be- Yeah... it still will be what it was without- Chris... the Daisy influence.
17:24
And Los Tres Hermanos is right next door, and I had to get- Yeah... some of their most delicious Mexican food right there. Best, best they give vegan. [laughs] So thank, thanks, Daisy family, for 45 years of- Yeah...
17:35
bike shop ownership because- Yeah... you guys... And, a- and Chris is still gonna be involved with the new owners, hopefully doing some events when events are doable again in the future. Um,
17:46
but he, they, that family did a lot of good for cycling, uh, basically from the northern suburbs up to, um, Milwaukee 'cause, like, cracky, we went down there a lot. Yeah, yeah. Oh, thanks, Chris.
17:58
Just last week, for God sakes. [laughs] Yeah, you know, if it weren't for going through there in the- Oh, yeah...
18:03
in the olden times, in the '90s when I was working for a distributor, they were one of my, one of my accounts. And, uh, it was, it was always fun to stop through there because they're such great people, so.
18:17
Well, see, I mean, just in getting into- Well, like fat biking and, you know, fun riding essentially.
18:27
[laughs] I don't think I would have had Zion on my radar as being a destination to hang out. And it is. It's as good, you know... Apparently, I'll be... Well, I'm not gonna...
18:45
[laughs] I, I, I still, the, the scab isn't completely healed. Right. You know? [laughs] I get- more of it scratching and a little puss is coming out, but, um, [laughs] Are you all right there? Thank you. I was.
18:57
Sorry about that. I had to- [laughs]... turn Tony back on after you. Hey, by the way. [bell ringing] Yay. Yay. Top of the ooh. Top of the, top of the hizzel. Yeah. Today's- Moist, moist... have we had this before?
19:12
I know we've had it before. I've had it in my belly. I don't know if we've had it on the show before. I don't think- I don't think so... I'm not, I thought we did, but- This is, this is called War Pigs Foggy Geezer.
19:22
It's a collaboration. Yeah, between Three Floyds and Mikkeller. It's a hazy India pale ale. A super fruity and dank War Pigs hazy IPA forged in collaboration between Three Floyds and Mikkeller.
19:38
It, it- What's the alcohol koozie? It's not that heavy... that's a good question. I don't know. It's in there, it's in there six something-ish percent. You can probably look it up. I'll have it in the show notes.
19:47
[laughs] You can probably look it up. Come on. I can tell you it's, it's got one of the coolest cans, 'cause it's all- Yeah... entirely black, and it has a really good logo. Obviously, the- Yeah, one of their-...
19:56
sort of the Black Sabbath references are- Their-... are many... brand ambassadors or what have you would, uh, hang out on Brady Street on occasion about a year-ish ago.
20:07
And they would do a, a handful of events like, you know, a pig roast and all kinds of crap. I know I've got a couple koozies and some, you know- Other swag. Yeah. Yeah.
20:16
You'll- Exactly, like the, yeah, the promotional, like, "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, um, here- Yeah... you take this and be my bil- billboard please." [laughs] You'll, you'll find them- And I'm good for it...
20:24
at the Cooperage there too now and again. Oh, yeah. Oh, sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Speaking of that, I do believe that's where the launch of... Hey, you guys. Oh, nice. Would be- Oh, right... for tomorrow. Today. Tomorrow.
20:39
Tomorrow. So Saturday. Saturday the 12th. Shit, I gotta work. At night? At night. Yeah, I could be. [laughs] You know, horribly bad things go. At night, 7:00 PM, which means 7:30 probably launch.
20:53
I might be able to pull that off. It is, uh, mandatory. [laughs] All right. Yeah. Well, it'll be interesting to see how they do this ride because- Mm-hmm...
21:03
it's, you know, with Steel is Real we're trying not to be- Yeah... 100 people all grouped together, 'cause- Yeah. I mean, when they, th- when the, uh, initial poster, I guess you'd call it,
21:16
you know, details to be determined, you know. So I think they're in the same kind of boat. Is this a Bill ride? Uh, Matt. Matt. Matt Roy. Yeah. He would be the brand ambassador for Malort. Yes, he is. Oh. [laughs] He is.
21:31
He is. I forgot he was. Yeah. That's the one thing, I, I- Tony, somehow we know a lot of brand ambassadors for a lot of booze now. Yeah, exactly. Influencers. Uh, the, um, [laughs] Well, you guys are telling the truth.
21:42
I thought- Oh, yeah... he just, he just drank Malort all the time. No, no, no. He's the Wis- Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah... I think Wisconsin, or if not Wis- At least Milwaukee... at least metro or whatever it is. Or region.
21:50
Whatever So just to go back to the War Pigs, it's 6.8%. Mm-hmm. And, uh, 70 of the IBUs. That's a bitter girlfriend, you nuts. Uh, it, it, boy, it's tasty. Hell yeah. It is very good. Yeah.
22:06
It's very, very, very s- I'm like, I'm like a hazy liker. I, I like hazies. And swimming back to the Malort, you know, the, uh, what is it? Is it called a boxcar or whatever? The beer in a shot thing. Oh, right. Yeah.
22:17
Yeah, yeah. Um- Shave and a haircut... two bits. Uh, yeah, he inserted one
22:25
with a shot of Malort and the Dogfish Head SeaQuench Ale, the sour, session sour that they have, which works out really good, 'cause it does cut the Malort. Nothing wrong with Malort if you ask me. Yeah, there is.
22:39
Oh, well- I mean, no not at all. Yeah. Compare Malort to, say, Fernet. Socks. [laughs] Or Fernet. Close. [laughs] Socks. I mean, it, it, they both have a very funk to it in my opinion.
22:55
And the session sour just kinda cuts it and mutes it a little bit. So you just don't like doing shots of Malort straight up? Uh, I mean, I do Fernet all the time. I love it. No, not really.
23:06
I, I have learned to love Malort, because it's one of those things you give to people and they go, "Bleh." Oh, yeah. So you just- Okay. I get it... drink it a lot- Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah... and then it's not so bad.
23:13
Yeah. That's like the salt and vineg- vinegar chips and- It is a Chicago thing though, so. See, that- Yeah, that kinda- It doesn't have that going for it. [laughs] Oh.
23:24
We should get some of our Chicago friends to tell us their views on Malort. Yeah. [laughs] Have at it. Maybe, maybe Arn- It's probably-... maybe Ernesto has a... There's somebody down there- Yeah...
23:34
who, uh, some, somebody- It's probably like a big old belly laughing point like, "You suckers." [laughs] Man, we ship all that shit north to the border. Yeah, we don't drink any of that in this state.
23:42
[laughs] Dude, all that- Kinda like-... is, is rail spill. It's a five bar collective rail spill. [laughs] We just bottle it and send it. [laughs] It's, uh- That's mean. Mean.
23:56
I know we've- Why, who hurt you so much that you have to hurt others? [laughs] I know we've mentioned the s- the Swift camp out coming up. Yeah. Got, got that link in the show notes again, but they've added a new twist.
24:09
They're having a video- Come out to me, Beth... contest. Mm. It's something to do with skids and stylish skids. Oh, where is Kenny Neal- Not in your underwear type, I don't think... Well, that would be- But more-...
24:20
that would be Lunz then. [laughs] Whoa. More, more of the fast wheeling- Man, server's attack. Come on now... whatever variety.... some sweet skids with a, do some video and of your sweet skids. Check out the website.
24:31
You, you'll see it on there Ah. And it's just shaping up to be a fun thing I think. Throw some of Coby's cameras there and get some badass skid nac.
24:39
He, he stopped in today and talked about his project for the school year, is he's gonna do 180 days is whatever school is- Yeah...
24:49
the route, uh, from his house to school and back, but like in five-second segments all year long. So, you know- It's a cool idea... one time around the route, but 180 days of it. Nice. That sounds cool. Yeah.
25:02
Sounds like a lot of editing, but I think if you stay on top of that, you could probably- There's-... you know, if you don't record the whole ride every day, just do- Wow... the section you need, might be- Edit that out.
25:13
Yeah... he's got one of those weird 360 cams things. Yeah, I think it'll probably do it for him. Software will bust it out like that. Say, say, g- give it to me in five-second increments, man. I'm sure that's an option.
25:25
I think that's gonna be cool, though. Yeah, I do too. He's a creative young man. Yeah. Dude. He, he absconded with the, one of the- Oh, that's right... the, the Yeti- He got that for his grandpa...
25:36
Fat Bike Yeti T-shirts up there. Yeah, for his grandpappy. Yeti Von Evil? Right, that's it. I know you were [laughs] I could hear the gears going, "Ah, I know it."
25:46
Yeah, that's a Fat Bike thing over there, a T-shirt things with something on 'em. Yeah. Click, c- click. Clickity, clickity, click, click. Yeah. I think you can still get those online if you want to.
25:55
They come from the, they just get delivered right to your house, magical like. Moist, moist. Yeah, yeah. [laughs] I do need to get the link for that. Moist, moist. Yeah. Uh, Tony got something he likes. What do you got?
26:10
Tony got something he likes. What's that? Another thing. Got myself a new belt. My friend from California made it. He, um, takes old tires and goes ahead and takes them apart and cuts the sidewalls out and
26:24
he, it's a- What does he do to finish the edge? Is it j- just- It's just cut... cleanly cut? It's just cut. It's pretty cool. Very well done, yeah. It's, the belt itself is fantastic.
26:35
It's like a, it's a- It's done, it's doing what it's got to do... park tire, like a- I, I, he- no, it's, it's, to me, yeah, I think it's like a, it could be like a gravel tire or a park tire Hard to tell what it is.
26:44
Yeah. I can't, can't see it. Pretty insane. He said it's about as thick as he gets them, though. He doesn't wanna make them any bigger than that, so. No, then your belly lops over it and it's- Yeah...
26:51
kinda like not so good. Well, and also then you get that belt loops. And then you get that, that... Yeah, it, yeah. And if you have a nickel allergy- Mm-hmm...
26:58
then it just rubs against that bottom part of your- You have a nickel allergy? Something probably. Somebody does. Someone out there. Yeah. Tony had an allergy to some 32 Below clothing from- Yeah... Costco,
27:11
some sort of something. It's getting better. Nice. That was a pain in the ass. That was, that was a, a thing Tony dug right there. That was what I dug.
27:20
Speaking of digging, which is kinda weird, 'cause I didn't even plan it. But the thing I dig this week, army surplus shovel bags. Yeah? Got some more, do you? I got some more, but, uh, they make great...
27:30
Eh, you can get them- Yeah... a lot of places. It's the thing that goes, you know, on your mole, mole, molle system. Yeah. Uh-huh. And it h- carries the shu- the trench digging shovel,
27:40
and it makes an- Where you store everything, yeah... awesome handlebar bag. Yeah. Oh, yeah. And it'll also go over your top two if you want. And you could have two of them. Or you could- One on each side... yeah, yep.
27:48
Or you could line four of them on there probably. Probably could if you- Or on the back rack, at least four of them. You can do anything with them by wrapping. Yeah, they're very versatile. Yeah. That's for sure.
27:57
You know, I'm, I'm also starting to think, you know, you mentioned that you don't wanna ride with backpacks anymore.
28:02
Well, it isn't that I don't want to, it's just that having things like those sturdy bag design panniers there- Yeah, I, uh-... makes it a lot easier not to carry shit on your back. Exactly.
28:09
I'm starting to think about not carrying stuff on my back 'cause I've got racks on my regular go-to bike, and- That's what I'm trying to, I b- God, actually, I've been on a- I think that's a good way to go...
28:18
I've been on, like, a five-year mission to shed the backpack. But yeah. Well, your, your- It, it is-... posture's looking much better [laughs] Oh, I'm not Mr. Burnsing it if I don't have it on anymore? Like, "Hello."
28:29
It, I need the backpack to do the- Exact- Yeah... well, normally, yeah, it's a, it's a cantilever- Right... thing, you know. Sort of- It's like normally... gets you standing up straight. Posture, posture.
28:39
Yeah, I don't have Lloyd around when you're [laughs] that's the best thing, when you're sitting on a bar stool and you are just, like, kinda whatever. Boom, there's a poke in the back like, "Posture."
28:51
[laughs] Sit up straight on that bar stool. Like, Jesus Christ. [laughs] That sounds like Lloyd. Yes, indeed. You're not gonna make it past 50 if you don't knock it off.
28:58
[laughs] I have a, uh, I have a new c- coworker named Lloyd, and yeah, I keep, every time I see him, I start going, "Lloyd, Lloyd, Lloyd." And he's like, "Well," D-N-D Lloyd. "He looks like me?" Lloyd. Oh, my God. Sorry.
29:09
Lloyd. Keep talking, Lloyd. Lloyd, Lloyd, Old Nolan Floyd. [laughs] Show's getting weird. Oh, man. Sanity thing wrapped in the ba- Yeah... in the, uh, gas station. Yeah. I got, um- Or the Gas'N Sip. That was it...
29:24
I got shipment notifications coming from Surly Wednesday's. Oh. Wednesday. Oh, did you get notice on Wednesday for your Wednesday? Well, they shipped a couple or they d- I don't know.
29:33
Th- I think they're shipping them by truck, so it's, th- those truck- Warehouse... people never really tell you. Yeah, could go into the warehouse, but I don't know when yet.
29:40
Sh- This should be nice to know when they're gonna be there... snowman and, snowman and the bandit, man. [laughs] Th- throw some damn Coors in there and rock out, man.
29:49
You know what I'm not, you know what I'm not cool about tomorrow? Is going to spend $1,050 on a new crown for my fucking tooth instead of buying one of those bikes. Buying one of those bikes.
29:57
'Cause that's how much my crown's gonna cost tomorrow. Yeah, it's just another week of work. Don't worry about it. I know. [laughs] Melt, melt down one of those, uh, things, uh, the wax lips and,
30:07
and just- That's what they put on temporarily... that's what I'm saying. Huh. If you have a whole bunch of wax lips, you could just do that in perpetuity. Waxty, yeah. True. Or I could buy $1,000 worth of wax.
30:18
Sage, sage advice here. [laughs] Right. You can buy a lot of la- wax lips for 1,000 bucks. You know how hard fa- fucking wax lips are to find in Milwaukee? I will tell you, because on the Fat Tire Tour Milwaukee for
30:33
Rocky Horror Picture Show theme I was try— I was like, "Oh, I'll just get some wax lips, and I'm, I'll be the lips, uh, from the opening- Mm-hmm... credits. Ha ha ha. Clever, cheap. No.
30:46
One place in Tosa, there's like one little candy shop. What about Winkie's? Winkie's might have. Whitefish Bay, yeah, yeah. They still have a nice candy counter. They do? Do they? I have not been in there in decades.
30:57
Basement, right? Candy is on the first floor. First floor. Toys are in the basement. Toys are in the basement, yeah. But yeah, there's like- If you need your Brio or your, your high-end- I, I'm just saying...
31:07
European toys... if, if you're really bored, you know, just try to find wax lips in your community. [laughs] So which is easier, which is easier, wax lips or rubber chickens? Oh, rubber chickens. Hmm.
31:20
Rubber chickens are kind of- I can go right over to F- No, those were tough to find as well... I can go right over to Pittsburgh's. Yeah, Bartz's was I think probably- No, I think Pittsburgh's has them, too...
31:25
Yeah, but Bartz's went out of damn business. Huh? You know where you can find them? [laughs] eBay. eBay. You can find them all over eBay. The one, the one Bart's, yeah, yeah, 'cause I was looking for another damn...
31:33
I think it was on the same trip I was looking for wax lips and a rubber chicken. [laughs] 'Cause it was, like, I was looking for a, a chicken bell- Did you just get up that morning and decide you wanted to do that?
31:43
Kinda. Well, it was getting- Okay... close to the time of the ride- Yeah... and I needed a new r- replacement or a, a sub- or a whatever for chicken bell. That's where I got my high-quality mall Santa suit. Me, too.
31:57
And that's where the Bartz's on North in Tosa- That's where I got mine... that is now Explorium Brew Pub or Brewery. That's what that was. It used to be Bart's. The Exploratorium? Mm. They make a fine beer, you guys.
32:09
We should make a trip out there. And I was just like, "No, da, da, da, da, da." Do our showing. It is in there. And the only one they had were the little baby ones. Hence- Ah... that's why the chicken bell- Chickens?
32:17
That's why- Oh... that's why the chicken bell was- It's amazing... the one with the-... this tiny but deep-... the one with the egg in it? Yeah. Yeah. [laughs] Oh, that was gross. That was insane.
32:24
You could, like, squeeze it and egg would come out. Yeah, you squeeze it and it comes out kind of, but not all the way. But it's, like, still in, but it's not. Yeah, it's just crowning.
32:31
It's outside, it's outside the chicken but it's- It's like the egg just crowns. That does sound pretty creepy. Yeah, it's weird. Oh, it was insane. I should've bought more.
32:38
[laughs] I think you get lots of them, like, like lots of 25 on eBay. [laughs] If you wanna give them away as Christmas gifts or something- Yeah, exactly...
32:46
they're, they're fairly inexpensive [laughs] and as well as bells. Let everyone know where your head's at. [laughs] Yeah, you can do mini chicken bells or full-size chicken bells. Chicken bell. I invented that. I know.
32:59
I'm like one Mississippi, two. [laughs] Somebody, somebody's fucking ears are burning right now. [laughs] Yeah. So who's your ride this weekend? Uh, we gotta go do one more. The, we- Who... have to get another stop.
33:11
We had one of our stops for Steel Is Real, um, inform me that they had 75 people coming, and we're not gonna go there when they have that many people there. So we're going to- Try to find a different one...
33:21
try, well, I have, we've got a couple places. Uh. Pretty easy stops, but... And they're also right in line with where we're going anyway, so. Who recommended Hector's? Z-Toe. We'll see. I'll, I'll give it a checkout.
33:35
I mean, they do have good margaritas there. Well, okay, if we're just gonna do margaritas. And some semblance of, uh, patio. That was the thing is what it looks like- Oh, whatever. That is true...
33:46
'cause, 'cause, uh- That is true. All right... we're not supposed to talk about this. Oh, yeah. Flight Club thing. I just said that. Sorry. Well, no, we may or may not come. Yeah. Doesn't really matter.
33:54
I think the one place- No, they didn't... we're going to go to that I'm not gonna tell you about will make you love dive bars. Oh, yeah. Or love the, the seedier side- The seedier side... the tastier side. Mm. Good food.
34:08
Eh? Yeah. [laughs] Also was closed on Monday [laughs] when we tried. We, Craig and I were on a mission- Well, to be, to be fair-... to find something to eat. To be fair. To be fair. A lot of places were closed on Monday.
34:18
Oh, hell yeah. Yeah, yeah. Including The Door. Yeah. And including me. [laughs] Yeah, yeah. I was just like, "Yeah, kinda not likely right now, and if I do, it's gonna be, yeah, later." Little more local. Yeah.
34:33
[laughs] Yeah, we put some miles on. Yeah. That was fun. Well, we went electric, too, so it was nice. Yeah. We, yeah. Totally. Gotta, gotta test it. Yeah. You know, it's a good excuse. Yeah. Yeah.
34:40
I've got a good idea on the, uh, on the road route- Cool... on that. I mean, uh, depending on where the hits are, it's all- Should be-... kind of in the same- Should be pretty simple... it's all kinda in the same line.
34:55
If, if- As long as I know which, where to take people, 'cause- If you can alter the route, can you, y- if you can alter it in Google Maps, then I know the route.
35:02
I- 'Cause you- Google, Google Maps has been kind of a bitch to me right now. Yeah. But I, I'm trying to dink around with, uh, Ride with GPS route planner. Ah. And I'm having a little more-
35:14
That's what I'm gonna give you... I'm having a little more luck with that. It's like with Google, I only have X amount of destinations I can have, and then it says, "No more." Oh. And it's like I'm only- Halfway done...
35:27
halfway through [laughs] this ride. [laughs] I don't know. Somehow Jason- Started the ride... Jason from the Fat Tire Tour is kind of a Google Maps pro. I wonder if we can tap him- Or, yeah... on the shoulder. Yeah.
35:37
But yeah, Schlabowski, I think, knows quite a bit about Ride with GPS for doing- Yeah... routes, especially stuff that's not actually, like, a designated road or something, which is- Yeah, some, some of them-...
35:47
kinda what I'm interested in for the alt route mapping... some of them are take, taking the paths, even in Google, which was surprising to me. Or it was- I bet Honey Creek is not an approved bike route. Uh, yes.
35:59
Well, not the creek creek- Right [laughs]... but the parkway. Not the actual creek. [laughs] But the parkway. Yeah. So. Which is the road route, so. Exactly. You know? It all works out. Hey, by gosh.
36:09
My, if you're not noticing- Bike path... and not playing cards, we've tipped our hand a bit. To- Sir. How about the sir? Oh. Sir. Sir. You mean, like, we're going west- Yeah... basically? That's the thing.
36:22
Well, and- 'Cause that's kinda what we do every year. Yeah. Yeah. No? No, we usually go south. What are we gonna do for people that don't bring steel bikes? I- Cut their tires... put a magnet on it. I have a magnet.
36:33
That's it. My, uh, my helmet, and thank you for the storage of said helmet. [laughs] It, it lived at the shop for a few days. Yeah. It w- it, it had a f- over, sleep over, you know? It was like, ooh.
36:44
It was playing security. But, uh, the, the clasp of nut cases is magnetic. Yes. So- There you go... which I never noticed.
36:53
I mean- Which I never really kind of figured out until- Exactly So you can use it to check whether people's bikes are steel or aluminum. Yep, yep, yep.
37:01
Here's the deal with, that I went to, and I don't know that it wasn't already the rule, is w- uh, the judging was for steel bikes. If you wanna ride another bike, ride another bike. Ride another bike. Ooh, I don't care.
37:11
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Just not- We're not gonna yell at you... just not eligible for any kind of judges- You might just get ch- Except that we're gonna judge you inferior if you ride something other than steel.
37:19
Oh, and you know what else we could do? And that's the only prize you get this year. We might just, we might just- We're gonna bust out the megaphone, aren't we, so I can just tell Chris. There's gonna be- Yeah...
37:26
there's gonna be participant awards this year. [laughs] Nice. There will be no other... Well, I don't know.
37:31
We gotta figure out, maybe, maybe take a picture of your bike and throw it on the page and let people judge your bike and say- That's not a bad idea. I don't know.
37:38
Uh, there's gotta be some kind of interactive something, something, something, something. Yeah. But, uh, you know, we're trying not to have the 100 people group. Right. Exactly.
37:45
We're trying to do this in a smart, safe- Yeah... COVID safe fashion. That's still fun. It'll be fun and staggerty. Staggerty. Dan Staggerty. It's like Dan Staggerty. Didn't, wasn't he the guy with the bear? Huh?
37:59
I thought you were thinking of John Fogerty. Don, Don- That's what I was thinking of... Don. [laughs] Dan, Dan Hagerty? Dan- Who's, who's the bear guy? Jim Hagerty? Some bear guy. Guy had a bear. Yeah.
38:07
General Dan or whatever. Grizzly Adams. Is that him? Yeah. Whatever. It's a bear- Fred R- Fred Rogers sang-... it's a bear thing. [laughs] Fred Rogers sang Happy Birthday to me last night on PBS. It was very sweet.
38:19
All right, Fred. You know he's dead, right? Yeah, but he lives on in our hearts. All right. Because won't you be my neighbor? Hi, neighbor. And, uh, on that note, bye neighbor. Bye neighbor. Bye neighbor.
38:30
[laughs] I like you just the way you are. Hey, so thanks very much for listening this week, folks. Happy Birthday JK and- Happy Birthday, JK... first and foremost, moist, moist. Meow, meow. Meow, meow. Moist, moist.
38:41
Meow, meow. Shut it and eat bacon.
38:45
[upbeat music]
