  Speaker 1: Good morning. Heading into a new week, we want to

  Speaker 1: start it the best way possible, and that's by taking

  Speaker 1: some time with God, talking with Him, listening to Him

  Speaker 1: as we read the Bible, and shaping our lives around

  Speaker 1: what He shows us about His perspective on life and

  Speaker 1: on our lives in particular, because God isn't just distant,

  Speaker 1: He's right there with you as He is with me
• 0:30
  Speaker 1: here in the studio, and He wants to be so
• 0:33
  Speaker 1: involved in our lives.

  Speaker 1: This week we want to talk about what it means
• 0:38
  Speaker 1: to make disciples. Well, that seems like a kind of
• 0:42
  Speaker 1: a weird expression to use. And if you're a Christian,
• 0:46
  Speaker 1: you probably think immediately of the great commission. When Jesus
• 0:51
  Speaker 1: was finished with his time on earth, He said to
• 0:53
  Speaker 1: His disciples, All authority in heaven and on earth has
• 0:58
  Speaker 1: been given to me.

  Speaker 1: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them
• 1:07
  Speaker 1: in the name of the Father and of the Son
• 1:08
  Speaker 1: and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything
• 1:13
  Speaker 1: I have commanded you and
• 1:16
  Speaker 1: I am with you always to the end of the age. Well,

  Speaker 1: what does this mean? Make disciples in today's terminology in
• 1:27
  Speaker 1: our thinking about our own lives. If you're a Christian,
• 1:31
  Speaker 1: what does it mean, even if you're not a Christian
• 1:34
  Speaker 1: and you're listening today, what does it mean to be
• 1:38
  Speaker 1: involved in disciple making? Well, each day I want to
• 1:43
  Speaker 1: give you another step. The first step.
• 1:47
  Speaker 1: you need to start by becoming a disciple.
• 1:51
  Speaker 1: And a disciple is simply a follower of Jesus. The
• 1:56
  Speaker 1: Bible talks about the first people who followed Jesus. John
• 2:01
  Speaker 1: the Baptist was a great preacher in Jesus' day when
• 2:04
  Speaker 1: Jesus just came on the scene.
• 2:06
  Speaker 1: And in John chapter 1 it says the next day
• 2:10
  Speaker 1: again John was standing with two of his disciples, and
• 2:14
  Speaker 1: he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, Look,
• 2:17
  Speaker 1: the Lamb of God.

  Speaker 1: The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.

  Speaker 1: Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them,
• 2:26
  Speaker 1: What are you seeking? They said to him, Rabbi, which
• 2:29
  Speaker 1: means teacher.
• 2:31
  Speaker 1: Where are you staying, he said to them. Come and
• 2:35
  Speaker 1: you'll see.
• 2:36
  Speaker 1: So they came and saw where he was staying, and
• 2:39
  Speaker 1: they stayed with him that whole day, for it was
• 2:42
  Speaker 1: about the 10th hour. One of the two who heard
• 2:46
  Speaker 1: John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

  Speaker 1: He first found his own brother Simon and said, We
• 2:54
  Speaker 1: have found the Messiah.
• 2:57
  Speaker 1: He's a believer. He believes in who Jesus says he was.

  Speaker 1: He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said,
• 3:05
  Speaker 1: You are Simon, the son of John. You shall be
• 3:08
  Speaker 1: called Cephas, which means rock or Peter.
• 3:13
  Speaker 1: The next day he decided to go to Galilee, and
• 3:15
  Speaker 1: he found Philip, one of the others who followed him,
• 3:19
  Speaker 1: and said to him, Follow me.
• 3:23
  Speaker 1: So here's Jesus' expectation. When someone becomes a believer in Him,
• 3:28
  Speaker 1: in who He says He is, and in what He
• 3:30
  Speaker 1: did for them at the cross. He expects them to
• 3:34
  Speaker 1: become a follower. Follow me. So this is how you
• 3:40
  Speaker 1: begin the process of disciple making is you become a disciple.

  Speaker 1: And as you think about your own life, who are
• 3:48
  Speaker 1: you following or what are you following? What do you
• 3:51
  Speaker 1: believe in?
• 3:52
  Speaker 1: What are you building your life around, because I'll tell
• 3:55
  Speaker 1: you this if you're building your life just around yourself.

  Speaker 1: And you are your own God, and you feel like
• 4:05
  Speaker 1: you can chart the course of your life and make
• 4:07
  Speaker 1: it go where you want it to go.

  Speaker 1: Uh, you won't get too far down that road before
• 4:14
  Speaker 1: you find you have very little control over what happens
• 4:17
  Speaker 1: in your life, over your health, over your relationships, even
• 4:21
  Speaker 1: over what goes on in your own heart and mind.
• 4:25
  Speaker 1: You will find the brokenness of your life.
• 4:30
  Speaker 1: We all need God. We need Jesus Christ in our lives.
• 4:36
  Speaker 1: He is the doorway to a relationship with God. That's
• 4:40
  Speaker 1: why He died on the cross, to deal with the,
• 4:44
  Speaker 1: the guilt and the way of life that has stood
• 4:47
  Speaker 1: in the way of our relationship with God, so that
• 4:51
  Speaker 1: the door is opened to us, to have a living
• 4:54
  Speaker 1: relationship with God where God is totally involved in our lives.

  Speaker 1: Start by becoming a disciple, a follower of Jesus. I'm
