- 17:49The next article comes from the March nineteenth, twenty twenty
- 17:52sixth edition of Business Lexington and is titled Developer Announces
- 17:57fourteen point one million dollar expansion at Fritz Farm. Fritz
- 18:02Farm will add more than thirty thousand square feet of
- 18:05retail and restaurant space as part of a fourteen point
- 18:09one million dollar expansion announced by Hendricks Commercial Properties. The
- 18:14project includes three new retail buildings totaling thirty thousand, three
- 18:18hundred eighty seven square feet, planned for the southeast corner
- 18:22of the fifty two acre mixed use development along Rowan,
- 18:27Finn and Harrison Roads. Construction is expected to begin in March,
- 18:32with shell delivery to tenants targeted for this December. This
- 18:37next phase of development reflects the continued momentum at Fritz Farm,
- 18:41said rob Gerbetz, CEO of Hendricks Commercial Properties. Consumers are
- 18:46looking for destinations that bring together shopping, dining, and experiences
- 18:51in one place. This expansion allows us to introduce new
- 18:55brands while continuing to elevate the overall experience for the
- 18:59Lexington community. The expansion continues Hendrix's long term strategy to
- 19:04develop remaining pads at the center while accommodating demand from
- 19:09national and lifestyle brands seeking space in the high traffic
- 19:13retail destination. The three buildings will measure twelve thousand, six
- 19:18hundred eight square feet, nine thousand, one hundred fifteen square
- 19:22feet and eight thousand, eight hundred sixty four square feet
- 19:26based in below Wisconsin. Hendrix Commercial Properties develops, owns, and
- 19:32manages mixed use and industrial properties across the United States.
- 19:37The next article comes from the March twenty fifth, twenty
- 19:40twenty six edition of the Louisville Courier Journal and is
- 19:43titled UPS withdrawals driver buy out option in thirteen States,
- 19:48What it means for Kentucky, Written by Olivia Evans. UPS.
- 19:54The shipping and logistics giant has withdrawn its voluntary separation program,
- 19:59a buyout offer for drivers in more than a dozen states,
- 20:03after initially announcing the program in January. The January voluntary
- 20:08separation program, called the Driver Choice Program, marked the second
- 20:12of its kind. UPS has offered employees in less than
- 20:16a year and was focused on full time drivers. The
- 20:19Career Journal previously reported during a January twenty seventh call,
- 20:24UPS said it plans to globally reduce operational positions by
- 20:28up to thirty thousand and closed more than twenty facilities
- 20:32across the company in twenty twenty six, and it expected
- 20:36to do this in part through buyouts. The International Brotherhood
- 20:40of Teamsters, the union representing more than three hundred thousand
- 20:44UPS workers nationwide, points wrongdoing to the way in which
- 20:48the buyouts were offered to drivers directly and circumvented policies
- 20:53and procedures put in place by the national labor agreement
- 20:56between the two entities. The union alleges that all incentive
- 21:01programs from UPS must be voted on and approved by
- 21:04employees in a union, and that the recent voluntary separation
- 21:09offers were not. The withdrawal of the voluntary separation program
- 21:14also follows a February lawsuit by the Teamsters that alleged
- 21:18the company violated the twenty twenty three labor contract with
- 21:22the employee buyout option. However, a Massachusetts judge rejected a
- 21:28request for injunction in February, allowing the company to move
- 21:32forward with buyouts. The Teamsters said in a March twenty
- 21:36fourth news release that UPS withdrew the offer after nearly
- 21:40thirty seven local unions filed grievances against the company alleging
- 21:44violation of the labor contract. The thirteen states where the
- 21:48offer has been withdrawn comprises the Teamsters Central Region, representing
- 21:54more than sixty eight thousand UPS workers and includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska,
- 22:08North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. According to the Teamsters,
- 22:15the buy out offer was a one time lump sum
- 22:17payment and would require drivers to never work for UPS again,
- 22:23to waive their rights to union representation, and to sacrifice
- 22:27a career's worth of strong union wages, employer paid healthcare,
- 22:31and guaranteed retirement benefits. Teamster local unions in the Central
- 22:37Region have raised strong opposition to the Driver Choice Program
- 22:41and have demanded that UPS not offer the DCP to drivers.
- 22:46We do not agree with the union's position. We believe
- 22:49the DCP complies with our contract and it has been
- 22:53well received by our US drivers around the country, a
- 22:56UPS spokesperson said in an email to The Career Journal.
- 23:00We've engaged in discussions with the local unions in the
- 23:03Central Region regarding driver participation, and in some areas those
- 23:08conversations continue. The Teamsters said this withdrawal will undermine UPS's
- 23:14ability to pursue buyouts in other regions protected by the
- 23:19twenty twenty three National Master Agreement. By pulling out of
- 23:23more than a dozen states, UPS has conceded that its
- 23:26buyout programs are illegal. These programs violate the Teamster's contract
- 23:31and UPS knows it. Teamster's general president Sean O'Brien said
- 23:36in a news release, the Teamsters strongly urge UPS to
- 23:40take the next right step and dismantle its Driver's Choice
- 23:44program across the country. The next article from the Courier
- 23:48Journal is titled discount shoe retailer Zappos permanently closes Louisville
- 23:53stores written by Olivia Evans Attention discount is shoe shopping fanatics.
- 24:00The two Louisville area Zappo's stores have permanently closed. The
- 24:04outlet powered by Zappos at nine one zero one Minor
- 24:08Lane permanently closed effective December twenty fourth, twenty twenty five,
- 24:13according to a flyer posted on the doors at the
- 24:16Las Vegas based shoe and clothing retailer. The closing notice
- 24:20also said shoppers could continue your shopping adventure at the
- 24:24Zappo's unboxed location inside the Mall at Saint Matthew's. However,
- 24:29as of March, the Zappo's location at the mall five
- 24:32thousand Shelbyville Road has also permanently closed. As of March nineteenth,
- 24:38Zappo's Unboxed had all of its signage removed from the
- 24:42exterior of the mall and the interior of what used
- 24:45to be a shoe and clothing store, and was undergoing
- 24:49an active demo. Zappos did not respond to multiple requests
- 24:53for comment from The Courier Journal. The outlet powered by
- 24:57Zappos in South Louisville opened and twenty nineteen after it
- 25:01moved from a previous location in Shepherdsville. The Courier Journal
- 25:05previously reported. However, in twenty twenty two, the thirteen thousand
- 25:11square foot store, which sold discontinued shoes, handbags, jewelry and
- 25:16clothing from the company that opened in nineteen ninety nine
- 25:20as an online retailer, announced it with close. Then in
- 25:24twenty twenty four, the outlet powered by Zappos reopened at
- 25:28its Minor Lane location near Okhona and Fairdale, only to
- 25:33last another year before closing once more in December of
- 25:37twenty twenty five. The Zappos Unboxed at Mallett Saint Matthew's
- 25:42first opened in April of twenty twenty one, The eighteen thousand,
- 25:46seven hundred and fifty square foot store sold Zappos dot
- 25:49Com products coupled with interactive experiential elements representative of the
- 25:56famously fun brand. The Career Journal previously reported the store
- 26:01carried brands including Vans, Puma, New Balance, Adidas, and Doc Martin's.
- 26:07Other brands include Kate Spade, Ralph Lauren, and north Face,
- 26:12selling them at a reduced rate. It's unclear what may
- 26:16be opening inside the former Zappo's unboxed at the mall
- 26:19at Saint Matthew's. The next article comes from the March
- 26:23twenty fifth, twenty twenty sixth edition of Louisville Business First
- 26:27and is titled Louisville Slugger Museum parent rebrands Bourbon Attraction,
- 26:32written by Stephen Schmidt. The building with the iconic Big
- 26:36Bat has a new name for its tasting room, Big
- 26:40Bat Bourbon. Earlier today, a rebranded and refurbished tasting room
- 26:44attached to the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory opened its stores,
- 26:49intentionally holding a ribbon cutting on the same day as
- 26:52the opening night of Major League Baseball. The two thousand
- 26:56square foot barrels and Billet's Experience opened February of twenty
- 27:01twenty two at eight hundred West Main Street. Before that,
- 27:05it was largely unused space in the factory on the
- 27:07corner of West Main and South eighth Streets for about
- 27:11two years. Though the leadership team at Hillaric and Bradsby Company,
- 27:16the parent company of the factory but not the Louisville
- 27:19Slugger brand, and the owner of the tasting room, had
- 27:22discussed the name change and a rebrand. We wanted to
- 27:25be aligned with our sister attraction of the Louisville Slugger
- 27:28Museum in Factory, Andrews. Soliday told Business First. Soliday serves
- 27:33as the marketing director for Hillaric and Bradsby. Soliday said
- 27:38the biggest impetus for changing the venue's name was the
- 27:40popularity of the Bourbon in Bat's ticket, which for fifty
- 27:44dollars gives access to the museum and bourbon attraction. The
- 27:48tasting room hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from eleven
- 27:51am to six pm, Friday and Saturday from eleven am
- 27:55to seven pm, and Sunday one pm to six pm.
