Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: This Eagle's team is not unbeatable by any means, right?
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: This is not the same team it was last year.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: They don't move the ball very consistently.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: Brock just has to be very disciplined with his eyes against the defense.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: That is the voice of today's guest Evan Moore.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: He was on a couple weeks ago and as expect to get a lot of very positive feedback, Evan is at his home in Orange County.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's a big plus-to-lover.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: Evan played football and basketball at Stanford then played in the NFL.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: He has a podcast right now, which I'll.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: introduce a little bit later, but it's called the season with him and his brother and law Nick Folls, and they've got a big guest coming up, which I'll tell you about in a second on their show this week.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: You guys are going to love his guest.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: On the show today, he gets into why the 49ers
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: can beat the Eagles, what the keys to the, that game are, we talk a lot about the challenge that Brock Perti will have with Vic Fangeos, defense, what he thinks the Eagles, shortcomings are, and he tells some great stories at the end about his time with the C-Haw, one very specific thing that happened.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: There were replacement referees in the NFL in 2012, and he was on the field for this famous play called The Fail Mary on Monday Night Football.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: And, uh,
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: he talks about that play in that moment and how Martian Lynch almost ended up on the field and just his towel.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: But most of this is a Niners Eagles preview and it's brought to you by Puesto, thanks to Puesto for sponsoring another guest here on the show.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: The Adler Brothers do amazing work.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: You can't go to Puesto, may he count on Moderna this weekend at Levi Stadium.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: Will you be able to go again this year?
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: But that's okay, because they have two locations in the Bay Area.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: They have locations inside the California, Orange County, La Jolla, and the Bay Area.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: There's one in Santa Clara, one in Concord.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: They've got TVs, but it's not a TV place.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't know what I mean, it's a classy joint.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's also fun.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's got a great vibe.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: You can go for lunch.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: You can go on a Saturday.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: You can go for a business lunch.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: You can go for date night.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: You can go for boys night.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: It just hits every note.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: And as always with the restaurant, vibes are great.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: but great food is what really makes the difference at great drinks.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna love the margaritas.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: You've got so many options of tacos and enchiladas and salads and plates.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: The shrimp taco, the lobster taco, my personal favorite, the short rib case of beer, with the juicy, short rib, the crispy, but somehow gooey, it's a magic trick, the melted cheese, a kick of a lisco.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: It is comfort food, but it's got flair.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna love it.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: The Adler Brothers, huge and outer fans, support in the team, support in you the fans, support in the show, and I tell you, go support them and you'll be happy you did.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's great food.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: So thanks to Puesto, Mexico, Modernao.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: I promise you right now, there's a 90% chance you're holding your phone as you listen to this.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: So go look at the menu.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: Go check it out.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to be blown away.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: All right, here is Evan Moore.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: Coming up on Wednesday, my guy Evan Moore and his buddy and brother-in-law and former teammate Nick Folls, interviewing Evan's buddy and former teammate Richard Sherman.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: That is on their podcast, the season, which you can find on YouTube and I'll put the link down to the description and wherever you get your podcast, so looking forward to that.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if Sherman will be wearing a nine or hat in that interview on Wednesday.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: So this is his C-hawk, just being his nineers.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: But Evan was on a few weeks ago, you guys loved it
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: And he's back.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: He played for the Eagles.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm looking forward to that and you guys can battle it out.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a firm and you and falls that'll make new you guys every time you guys talk Eagles it makes news and Philadelphia.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I can't wait to talk about it.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean look we're going to be talking about that's mainly that does match up just like we're talking about it today.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: I can't wait to get terms take on where the Niners are and this thing and Nick and I have had takes all year about where the Eagles are and this is going to be a good one.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I want to start with the take you had the last time you're on it turns out to be perfect because we were talking about the Niners and the Eagles and the postseason and the Bears 49ers have not played the Bears yet at that point and you said this and I think the Niners can win in Philly as well to be very clear about that like what about the Eagles have you seen this here that terrifies you.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: We're like delusional about a lot of teams this year, right?
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: We work for the chiefs for the better part of the season.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: We kept thinking, they'll figure it out.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: They'll turn a corner.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: That didn't happen.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: And they're still a part of people at nine and five with the Eagles where they say, yeah, they've struggled here.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: They've struggled there, but they still have a team that wanted Super Bowl last year.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: by and large, it's more or less the same roster.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: The Eagles cannot run the football.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: Jalen Hurts, I think, is flirting with sort of Russell Wilson territory, right?
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: Where he is very structured, dependent, as far as how he runs their offense and where he flourishes.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: And when you force him to be kind of a drop-back passer where the balls in his hands 30, let's say 28 to 32 times a game,
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's not what he does as well.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: This is essentially how you answer that.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: So do you stand, but what do you think of that take now a few weeks later?
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I do.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: And look, I was listening to someone earlier today.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about this matchup and it's a matter of perspective, right?
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: Because it was somebody from the 49ers side and they said, look.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: This is a well-rested team that won the Super Bowl last year has a thousand yard Russia.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: Their quarterback is just under 500 yards rushing and the Niners conversely are a team that looks exhausted and kind of at the end here.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a rough season for them.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: They've had so many injuries.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: All their linebackers are hurt.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: And gosh, do they have enough left to push through this?
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: I understand that perspective, but I think that is just kind of glancing at the statistics and not seeing the whole story.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I've watched this Eagles team closely the entire season and yes, is say, Juan Barclay a thousand yard rusher.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, is he capable of much more?
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: Say, Juan was over two thousand yards last year.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: His production is basically cut in half.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: He has three games this year over a thousand yards.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: Um, look, is it, is it, excuse me, over a hundred?
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: Are the Eagles a dangerous team to go play at the link?
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: Any time you play them, sure.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: But this team is not what it was, what it was a year ago.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: And this team has been through a lot this year.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: They've been under fire the entire season, right?
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: Their coaches had to answer questions constantly about who's getting the football on the passing game.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: They're often to coordinator's been questioned time and time again over the course of the year.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: The most confusing thing about this team, guys, you to me.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I understand the Eagles are a three and a half point favorite and I know they're a tough team.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: I get it.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: They have a wit kind of a winning DNA.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: And if you let them hang around, they're going to find a way to win.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: I understand that.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: However, the thing that is the most confusing thing to me about them this year, their run game coordinator slash offensive line coach Jeff Stoutlin.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: probably the best in the league, if not one of the best in the league, is still there, right?
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: Kevin Betulos, they're O.C.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: and he was promoted from within when Kellenmore left, but Jeff Stoutland is still there, and personnel-wise, they're virtually identical to what they were last year with the exception of their guard, Tyler Steen, who is playing that position now.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: Lane Johnson, their right tackle has been in and out of the lineup.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: He should be healthy and good enough to play in this Niners game.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: So from a coaching standpoint, the personnel standpoint, it's very similar.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yet they have not consistently been able to run the football.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I know if you're a nine or team that's heard at linebacker and, you know, teams about success and getting after you in the run game, I understand that it's concerning when you look and say, they've got say quans, say quans a thousand year rush or be, yeah, you've got to account for them, but this is not a team, it's just running all over people all year long.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, I'm good news for them.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: What's that?
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: Niners don't have the, the matter's defense is decimated.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: I get it.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I know what the Seahawks do against them.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like 39 carries for a hundred or five yards of carry among the running back.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: And look, if you look at the Eagle stats, I'm not here to tell you the Eagles like will not try to run the football against the Niners they absolutely will right that'll be going into the game they'll say let's run it is let's try as much as we can to run it until they stop us and if the Niners can't stop them you're just going to see it all game long and that's by the way that's when the Eagles offense becomes dangerous.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: when they lead with Sake Juan, then Jalen starts to become more dangerous, right?
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: You also got a camper him running the football too.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: He's run it 35% less this year as far as a temp scope than he did last year.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: So keep that in mind as well.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not as big of an emphasis with our offense.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: But if you look at kind of what they try to do offensively, it's run, run, and then find themselves in third and long on a regular basis.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: And Jalen ends up as a drop-by-passer, which is not a strength to his right?
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: Niners are decimated.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: I get it, injuries have killed them.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: I totally understand that, but the Eagles have just not been a team that have been able to line up and say we're going to run a dangerous route the whole game, all game long.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not something they've successfully done this year.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: If the Niners can't stop that, then
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's a big problem, you know what I mean?
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I heard a college coach made the point to me this year.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, you know, the college football is becoming more like the NFL or coach, it used to be, and you tell me, because you played both in broadcast.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: It used to be like the NFL was so player-centric and college was so scheme-centric, and how college is getting more,
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: player centric from a play calling and coaching standpoint.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like it is really the old saying like the Jimmy's and the Joe's.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: And that's how I felt watching from the field level the Seahawks the other day.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like look at this, the the the human beings they have playing defense for them.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: You got to people who are listening.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't got a Seahawks jersey over his head.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, he, his, his title also said Evan Moore officiating blows with the irony is you are on the field for the fail Mary game that there's a reason for that people like I, I have thought if it's not now for this year now guys mad at me for that take.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: He's, it's so annoying.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: Keep going.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: But, um, you know, when I watch the Eagles for whatever their flaws are, they've got two elite wide receivers.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: any lead running back and a quarterback who you're right when he becomes a drop back passer that's not a strength, but the 49ers don't get to the quarterback that much, although they just act same darn it a couple of times.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: So I see a defense that's hard to cover an offense that's hard to cover for four seconds.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: And then the other thing I see is they have been by scoring the best defense in the league for the last couple of months.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: I see the type of defense that the Niners just played.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: And what concerns me is that the 40 Niners this year and past years they've been better suited to play a knockdown dragout land grab.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: That's the game that Seattle just played with them.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: And it was 13 to three, but it wasn't close.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: They're better suited to play the bears who can't stop you.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just have a shoot out.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree with that.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: And now, I mean, you look, you cover the Niners.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: Do I have to remind you they allowed 13 points in the game?
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's the amazing thing about it.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Seattle can win the suit.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't think Seattle is winning the suit rule.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: I agree, it's almost like a soccer game, right?
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: We're like the final score might not tell you ends up two nothing, and it's like that team actually got destroyed, right?
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: But the Niners were also didn't get the breaks that a team needs to get in the game like that, right?
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: That chance for a fumble recovery, the ball was basically in his hand.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: It games totally different.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, the third, the third and 17 conversion huge, right?
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm a calculator.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: You just, I think it's a break, right?
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and then we can't really like bubbling that bubble.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, it's not, it's time we can't free to that, right?
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: I love that I'm going to use for the eagles and you know, that's the point of this whole thing, right?
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: Let it.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: There was opportunities there.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: There were opportunities there.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: There was no question about that.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: You bring up a really good point about the defense.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: So I do think there's two places that the eagles live.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: One is the occasional explosive play at times throughout the year has been huge for them, right?
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like things don't, things don't appear to be going well.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: Jalen is struggling that can't find open guys in the passing game.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: They don't seem to utilize shifts in motion and creativity in the passing game to give him opportunities very well.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: And then all of a sudden, there's an explosive play to AJ Brown or Devontismet.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: that has been like game changing for them many times in games this year we're like oh my god there it is there's the play the second thing is you take away the defensive the defensive performance against the bears a few weeks ago right around Thanksgiving where they allowed like 270 yards rushing that was out of character for them like they just didn't fit their runs very well and it was a rough game
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: you take that away and this team is really leaning on because they snapped the ball later in the play clock than really any other team in football because they want to limit them out of offensive plays that are running.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: They want their defense to win the football game for them.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: And where I think that bodes well for the Eagles against the the Niners is this.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: So Brock Perti against the Seahawks, I think he read, I read he was pressured on 15 of 32 drop back passes, right?
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Only nine of those, excuse me, only nine of those were pressures, like blitzes, by the Seahawks defense.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: So what that tells me, and I know that the Seahawks have a good front for, everyone knows that, is that the Seahawks are able to get after the Niners pass or with their front for, that is a signature.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: Now keep this in mind when you watch the game, that is a signature of a VickFansio defense.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: I remember going back to like the 2018 season when the Eagles played the bears in the playoffs.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: Nick was a quarterback at that time.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: And going into that game, it was a bear's team that doesn't really pressure all that much, but their front for was nasty.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: Khalil Mack was really the main guy.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: And then they had, uh, who was their big guy in the middle.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Their three technique was a monster.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: And they would cause problems all game wrong rushing for.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: So they could disguise
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: The Eagles are very similar in that regard.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: They're not a huge, like blitzing pressure team.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like they'll occasionally bring a, you know, a nickel guy or a linebacker, but it really is all about their pressure with the front four.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: So getting Trent Williams back for this game for the Niners will be huge, but the Eagles foreman rush is a problem.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: And when Jalen Carter's healthy, this is their, you know, I'm talking about their interior defensive tackles now.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, when Jalen Carter's healthy, he had a shoulder procedure, excuse me, a shoulder procedure, like,
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: four or five weeks ago and he was double double.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was out for a couple of weeks.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: He came back, didn't play last week, came back two weeks ago and looked phenomenal.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's a problem, right?
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: When you get that interior pressure, he's a huge problem.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: In that regard, yes, they're very similar to the Seahawks defense, and you have to be very careful, because Vic Fanjo's whole thing is we're not going to let you get big plays.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to have stud guys up front in my front for, which obviously every defense coordinator would like to have and we're going to create pressure with four and I'm going to do a bunch of cool things on the back end with the six or I should say seven guys that are in coverage and that's tough if you're not protecting it.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: And you're not getting the camera on a line back or now.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, most likely not, right?
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like Vic Fangio's not going to allow McAfrey to get, you know, I sewed up against linebackers that can't run.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to happen, right?
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what I love about.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like they struck gold with Quinion Mitchell and Cooper to Jean.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: Those are two guys on the back end.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: Quinion Mitchell's a great number one corner.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: Or he's become that.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: And Cooper to Jean can pretty much play every position on the back end.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: He can guard whoever you want him to guard at the receiver position.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: He can come in pressure if they want him to, and he can also come down in the box, and if he has to guard McAfrey, like I wouldn't, when McAfrey lines up at the slot receiver position or even comes out of the backfield, I would not be surprised to see Cooper lined up on him more often than not.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's a really good player.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: 49 of fans wanted him like you the Niners drafted Ricky Piersall and yeah, I don't know if Rick is going to play He's been unique because he's the question on personal is can he get open against man coverage and the answer is actually been yes, but he's You know, he's not on the field.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, consistently.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I understand nature problem But I really like again is the flow of the game goes for this game keep that in mind because
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: the Eagles don't like they've already established the fact, especially the second half of the season, where they're really not, they have no intent of making it a high scoring football game.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: They really want to snap the ball late, not because they're trying to confuse the defense and move around.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: They don't even use shifts in motion all that well.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: They want to let the clock run and let their defense control a game.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it's become.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't start that way, right?
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: Because we went into this season defending Super Bowl champion, almost everybody back,
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: We went into the season thinking this could be a high-flying offense and then it turned out whoa, they don't run the ball nearly as well.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: They can't seem to get AJ Brown open.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's not getting a lot of production.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: He was super frustrated before the trade deadline.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: They thought, hey, we might even trade him.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: There were rumors about that.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: It just hasn't been, it's been very confusing.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: Let's put it that way.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: For a team with a really good defense and all that talent on offense, you think they'd be more balanced than they are.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they've just settled into, you know what?
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: This year, for whatever reason, we're a little limited offensively.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: Our defense is really, really good.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: And we're not gonna get in the way and turn the ball over with a short field and put our defense and tough spots.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: And Jalen has been very good with that this year.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: Not giving it away with short fields and putting his defense and the tough spot.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's amazing, like, I mean, the defending champs, I don't know if it feels that way, because, and it's not like haters from the outside.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: I went and watched Syria on his post game press conference today on YouTube.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: And every comment from Eagles fans is like, get rid of this guy, you know, like this circus.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's so, what am I, but somebody made the point I heard, was it to me?
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know, you can't remember what, but it was like, hey, like,
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: That, that's data will turn on that team by the second quarter.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like hang around in this game.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I can't get weird.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I got the, we spoke a lot on our show last week about the decision of the Eagles to rest their starters.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: Now, granted, the reason, so they rest of their starters this past weekend and week a team because they were, the two seed was in play.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, the bears end up losing to the lions.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I had the Eagles won at Washington if they had played Jalen Hurts
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, other key starters had they want at Washington, they would have the to see right now, which may end up mattering, right, because if they went, let's say to beat the Niners, they'll have a home game again in the next game, but now that won't happen, if they end up playing the bearers, a lot to go to Chicago, but, and it's like to me really fun, fundamentally just means, I know someone's got to beat Seattle on the road, but, like you could host the anti-champions, you can totally, but here's the reason.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: The reason Nick Serriani did this was in 2023.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: They were in a very similar spot.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: They had had a really up and down here.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: They started 10 and 1, and they were like descending fast.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: Coming off a Super Bowl, like the descent losing in the Super Bowl and descending fast.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: And they were playing for seating, but decided it wasn't that important.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: And Nick Serriani decides to, or I should, no, he decided it wasn't important.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: He decides to play as starters in 2023.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: AJ Brown got hurt in that game, missed the playoff game.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: uh... jail and hurts got nicked up in that game ended up playing they lost on the road at Tampa now they were not in a good spot it was obvious they were going in the wrong direction there were some similarities to this year so i think i think he looked at this year and just said you know what i'm not willing to take the risk of losing key players even if we get a lower c which ended up getting you know and i don't you know as far as what the eagles are offensively i'm not really sure what to expect in this game i know i understand the nighter's defense is beat up
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's not that bad when they allow 13 points, right?
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like the ends do justify the means when it comes to defense.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: You allow 13 points against the Seahawks in the biggest game of the season.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not, it can't be that bad, you know what I mean?
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's crazy.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: The niders have played 34 players on defense.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: the two guys with the fewest snaps are the starting line where the guys have finished the game in line back.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: Because these guys weren't even on the roster before November 1st, right?
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: Was that the deal?
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: Eric Roberts and somebody else?
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: Garrett Wallow came like December 8th.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know what's funny about the Niners is whoever wears 49 is kind of the last.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the 49ers the last number you want is 49 It's weird.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean like you're just hang it on try to make this team Could you explain I'm sure you know there's I you I would have met did you ever play against Vic Vangeo
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, gosh, I'd have to go back and look.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Vic was at Stanford after I was there with Jim Harbaugh, and then he was in Chicago for a while.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: And then he became the head coach.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: He was the miners.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: Did you ever play against Harbaugh's miners?
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: One year when I was in Cleveland, that was in 2011.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: We played against the miners in San Francisco.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Kevin Harlin and Ross Tucker were calling the game this last weekend and they were talking about VIX Defense.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: Could you explain like the point that Ross Tucker was making is that it's it's very confusing and it's so and it looks like man, it's What is it that
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: that he does so well.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: So the matchup is the first Kyle as an elite matchup.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: So the way I would characterize it.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: The first thing I'll say is this.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: So a couple of weeks ago, there's a poet or a.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: press conference that went a tad viral.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Kurt Cousins was talking about pure progression and reads, and all, do you remember seeing that?
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: Did you watch that?
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: I did.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's really good, and there's some of that where Kurt Cousins is talking, he's not talking about Vic, but generally speaking, he's talking about quarterback seeing the picture before and after the snap.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of what he's talking about is what Vic does.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: So the first thing I'll say about Vic's defense is this, he generally has a really good front for.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: And every defensive coordinator in America, at every level of football, would love to have a great front for.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: right, like a good defensive end, at least good at pressure.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, the the past rush for the Eagles wasn't always great this year.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: When they acquired Jalen Phillips around the middle of season, like close to the trade deadline, the leading sack around the team when they acquired him was a guy that wasn't even on the team anymore.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's a curious smith.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: You have unexpectedly retired.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_01]: He had like two and a half sacks and you're like, okay, that's why they went and got J. Lim Phillips because they're not getting after the passer Nick both of the way is like third on the Niners and sacks this year.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's been out for how long.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so same idea.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: But nonetheless, you can have really good interior defensive linemen that make plays that may not always get all the way to that they might just like result in pressures and they change the play.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: but here's what that does.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: When you really trust your front for to get the pastor and you don't have to bring a ton of pressure all the time, you can do a couple different things.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: One is simulated pressures, right?
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: Where you're bringing your only bring in for and your fourth Russia is coming from a place that you don't know where he's coming from.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: You'll like drop a defensive alignment on the back side and then on the front side you'll add a line backer to the quarterback that looks like it's a blitz and so he speeds up and makes a read and gets rid of the football where he doesn't have to because there's still seven guys in coverage.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: So the quarterback speeds up and he all saying he goes, why is nobody up and well because only four guys are coming.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's one.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's what simulated pressures are in a nutshell.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: The second thing is for quarterback's safety is tell the whole story.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: There are just immediately go to the safeties.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: When I have split safeties, they look at whether or not those safeties get with or depth and then they can kind of make determinations of what the defense is going to look like based on what the safeties do because they're in big fangeos defenses front for us are so good.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: He can do a lot with the safeties and disguising coverage is.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: And so like on our show, we've talked about this a lot.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're nickel just say, look, there's many times like planning a thick defense is where the ball gets snapped and I don't know what the coverage is.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: And even after the snap, I still don't know what the coverage is.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: So what it forces quarterback to do is resort to peer progression, where they go one, two, three, four, all the way down to five.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: There are very few quarterbacks in the league.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: They can actually go through a full peer progression and get to their fourth or fifth option.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: be able to go through that.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: Why is that important?
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: Usually when you know what the coverage is, you're working half field reads.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: So you're like, oh, you know what, I know this is cover two my answers on the left side.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'll go hide a low.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: There's my answer.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: Conversely, if I don't know what the coverage is, I have to resort to peer progression because I don't know what the hell the defense is doing.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to start with my first read quickly go to two, then to three, then to four, then down to the back.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: There aren't very many quarterbacks in today's version of football that come from college that are always looking over at the sideline clapping, waiting for the ball to be snapped, that can go through peer progressions like that.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's why so many of these quarterbacks.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's why Philip Rivers can come back at 44 years old at the end of the season after coaching high school ball and say, hey, Nick, I know Nick Seriani.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: I know you're not Nick Seriani.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: Why am I blanking on the cold set coach?
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Shane Steinstein.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's why he can go Shane.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: I know your offense like I was a part of this for a long time I can just do this thing from a peer progression standpoint and work through it from progressions.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: I know what coverage is look like.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: I have a deep understanding of that stuff.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a lot of quarterbacks in today's game don't have that and it's why and by the way, even the guys that do have it.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's really, and I was not a quarterback.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: I've heard these guys talk about it.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's really difficult to work through those things.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: Because you got to, you got to also trust your, you got to trust your past protection, too, right?
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: I remember a Shana Hind telling a story a couple of years ago, like saying to Kirk Cousins, like Kirk won to control the line of scribbage, and they did it for a game.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: And Kirk's like, you know what, I'm good.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: You can, you can, you can just call the place at a time.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I asked Perdi in the locker room a week or two ago.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, are you,
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: Are you, what is appropriate to say?
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: Is it appropriate to say that you're checking to the next play or that you're audibly?
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, it's check.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's not an audit.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: He's like an audible as old school football and nobody really does that anymore.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: Which in rockers does it sometimes?
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, well, Aaron might have, you know, Aaron's about to play his last game.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: So, but if we're talking about Vick's defense, that's one end of the spectrum.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: Let me give you an example of the other side of the spectrum.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: There's stuff in between.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: just to prove my point, not to prove, but just to make my point here.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: The other side of things is when you play defenses that love a lot of single high man demand, right?
- 25:35[SPEAKER_01]: So like you can see before the ball snap, like we're about to get pressure.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: And they just think guy for guy across the board, they're better than we are.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: So as a quarterback,
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: Now, okay, I know what's coming.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: I understand what the coverage is.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: I know what I know where I'm supposed to go.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know if I can do it, because I don't know if I'm going to have enough time to get the ball off.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if my receivers can win and one-on-one, right?
- 25:56[SPEAKER_01]: Some teams are in that boat as well.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: But Vix on the other side of this thing, where he hopes he hopes and trusts that our front four are going to get there pretty consistently and make it tough on you, even to run the ball.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_01]: And then the other seven guys are going to be doing some
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: right and make it really difficult like imagine being a quarterback and having four rushers consistently get to you like or get you to hurry up on a regular basis and there's seven guys in coverage whether it's man or zone.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's no fun.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: Every time you drop back it feels like there's 15 guys in the field.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's not fun.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: Right, so that I would say in a nutshell, there's more to it, but in a nutshell, that's why I think Vic Fangeo defenses are so tough is because he has the luxury of doing some pretty cool rotational and disguising stuff before the play and making it really tough on quarterback to figure out what are the safety's doing and what is the coverage.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the thing that came out, I thought at this talking about Seattle, what's interesting about what you're saying, it's, there's like a second part to it, right?
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's not just that it's for, that it's only for, that it's rushing, it's that there's also an extra defensive back on the field.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: Right, like Seattle played zero snaps of base defense.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like why?
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: We can stop the run and get after the past weather with four.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: So let's get another defensive back on the field for McAfrey or for kid, you know, like,
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, it's a good point and like teams of it's like when teams play the Rams this year offensively the Rams like to have a lot of big people on the field and then they'll throw the ball.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: They also run the ball really well, but and to see how it's done that a lot this year to big people on the field and then ask you they think you're going to match them and base personnel and then they'll throw it.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: And because they have a new evolution for McVanier, right, but then when you come out when the defense comes out in nickel when they bring in a DB for a linebacker because there's big P or.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_01]: Because they're like, we're not going to play your game by matching personnel.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you know, c-hawks ram, some of those teams might be like, okay, now we don't want to throw it because now you've got that extra ground in the field.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: Now we'll try to run it.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: And if you can stop the run with that extra DB on the field, it's pretty good.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of the distance contention upon your front four.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: And the Eagles front four is really good.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: So if I could boil it down this week to like three things,
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: It would be that it would be them accounting for the Eagles front for like Brock can't get pressured on 50% of his dropbacks with the front for if that happens.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's a huge problem.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: The second thing is I'd say what what does say quandu?
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: If they can get say quandbarkly rolling and he has not been himself this year for a number of different reasons.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: When I was reading stats on our show recently and talking about how often this year's say quandas been hit behind the line of scribbles relative to the last year.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: way more common for him to be his first contact being like negative two yards more often than not, right?
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: But if he can get going, this offense can start to look like it did last year.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: So it's it's absolutely critical to prioritize stopping him versus worrying about AJ Brown beating you on the outside.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, make AJ make Jalen AJ and Devante Smith beat you.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_01]: Do not let them get going in the run game.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: That is absolutely critical and do whatever you have to do Robert solid to stop it right and lastly like does jail and hurts become a runner like he
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: There's been times this year where I've noticed, like, okay, it looks like the Eagles offense is starting to get going.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: And then you see the stats, you're like, oh, he ran it nine times in this game.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: He ran it 11 times in this game.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: And he's run it 30% less as far as the temps are concerned.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_01]: Then he did last year.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a, I think that's a big part of their offense when they're playing well.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: They're run first offense.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: And any time this year, where they've tried to become like a dropback passing offense,
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's cause people to question their OC, and it's cause people to question whether Jalen hurts is the right guy, which is crazy.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: It was a super, super one VP last year.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_01]: And there are still folks in Philly after games ago.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if we have the right guy, maybe we should call senty and see if Joe Burroughs really that disappointed about being there.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: We can try to tell him he should, you probably should do that anyways.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you should do that.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I know I've kept you, but since I mentioned it, we haven't, I didn't.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_00]: I remember you telling me years ago, the story of the experience of being on the field with the
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: fall in referees.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: You were busy knocks.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: This is what 2012.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: Well, this is week two.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: Week two.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: This is 2012.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty early in the season.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like first three or four weeks of the season.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: You want to know what's wild about this play?
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: Other than the fact that it was for people who were listening to our members, a simultaneous it's a replacement raft.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: There was a holdout or a lockout with the referees.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_00]: They want a more money.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, and there was a, this was Monday night, right?
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: Was it Monday night?
- 30:30[SPEAKER_00]: It was a Monday night.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Monday night, Monday night, Monday night football.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a simultaneous catch at the end.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: And one official says, it's a catch touchdown.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_00]: The other one says incomplete.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then it just all help, Brooklyn.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: So everybody remembers the replacement rafts kind of apparently botching what, what the call should have been and all that.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what was wild about this play, though, is that this was Russell Wilson's rookie year.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: and I was in the play.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: I was in the game on this play and I'm you know however you hail Mary play has a point guy so it's like a bunch basically three receivers to one side.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: The middle receiver is your point guy which is the guy that's supposed to jump up and try to make the play.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: The inside receiver is supposed to stop about five yards short of the point guy in the end zone to be ready for a tip like a tip ball that comes his way and he can catch it.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: The outside guy is supposed to go five yards behind the tip guy and be ready for a tip ball backwards.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: in the huddle, Russell Wilson called the wrong play.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: So he calls it and I thought, okay, that's not the right play, but here's the problem.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not trying to pat myself on the back for this.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just telling you what happened.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: The problem was the way he called the play had me on the short side by myself and the other three receivers outside the left.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: If I ignored that, no one was gonna be on the back side and I was supposed to be in pass protection against clay Matthews.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so had I been like Russell's wrong.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't know what he's talking about.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just gonna go over there and play the point.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: The other three receivers just listened to him and they did what he called.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like, I got to listen to him because if I don't line up on the right side and stay and pass protection, Clay's just going to murder him, that was what was going to happen.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: So I stayed in and did my best to pass protect against Clay as long as I possibly could.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: So he could throw the ball down the field because he got to wait like at least three or four seconds before he lets it go, four seconds probably.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: And he lets it go and I end up, you know, watching from the far end after the game are O.C.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, you want to know what I was doing.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: Let me tell you what I was doing.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not trying to throw a rust out of the bus.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: But rust was a rookie at the time.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't feel bad about doing it.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: But I said, this is what he called.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: And he goes, oh my God.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: Did he really?
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, yes.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: So if I go line up on the left side, Clay is going to tee off on him.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: He would have never gotten the ball off.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: So did you guys end up like, did this was this the game you guys end up in the locker room had to come back out or something like that?
- 32:49[SPEAKER_01]: So we go in the locker room.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: This was before the NFL got rid of, remember they recently got rid of meaningless PATs.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: So at the end of the game, if you're winning the games over, okay.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: So at this time, they were still doing those.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: This is a great story, Bob.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'll make it quick because I know we're up against it.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_01]: I go back in the locker, I was one of the last guys in, I have no idea why.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: And Martian are running back, Martian Lynch, who not surprisingly was one of the first guys in because he hates being, he hates talking to cameras, he at least at this time.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: He just wanted to go home.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: He's already in his towel in the locker room, I'm about to get in the shower.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: And somebody runs in and goes, guys!
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: We've got to kick the P-A-T. We've got to kick the P-A-T.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: The game's not over.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: I need, give me 10 guys out there.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_01]: We need, we need our nine guys because we had a holder in a kicker.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: Give me nine guys out there.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: Marshan runs out in the tunnel and is about to go out on the field in his towel.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not I'm not joking.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: He's gonna and one of our ops guys grabs him goes more martial No, no, no, no, no, you can't do that.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: You can't he was gonna run out on the field in his towel and line up for the P.A.T.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: Which one have been one of the all-time great moments of sports.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: It was this close to happening with somebody grabbed him and stopped.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: Oh god, I wish that had happened.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so that was what he got in the wild night.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: I remember what I remember about this game is that like a week later or two weeks later, whatever the rock, you know, the real restaurant back, one of the referees in this play, the rumor in Fresno was that he was doing an appearance at Row Night Club.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I heard it was number 26.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_00]: Number 26 was, he was getting a new sign of autographs and wrote it down, wrote it since shut down.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: There was a stabbing, but that night, you could have gone and seen them, yeah.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that was a wild night, man.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: But, guys, he, I, look, it's, it's Eagles, come back to Eagles real quick before we're done.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's Eagles might make it in half.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: I understand Niners fans are frustrated about I shouldn't say frustrated like it's tough for the defenses with injuries right Fred Warner if he does come back wouldn't be to like the NFC championship game right maybe like there's still a chance
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they're missing a ton of guys and you're I understand you're looking at it being like, oh, we've got to go to Philly and they've got, say, Juan, you're right.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_01]: You just allowed 13 points against the sea, actually you didn't get that many breaks out of the miss field goals.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: You didn't get that many breaks.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like This Eagles team is not unbeatable by any means, right.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_01]: This is not the same team it was last year.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_01]: They don't move the ball very consistently.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: Brock just has to be very disciplined with his eyes against this defense and they've got to protect obviously right You can't give him two and a half seconds to throw every play like they've got to protect and if Brock can get into some kind of rhythm This could become a really really interesting game really fast.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: You just can't let's take one get going and that's easy Last year you would have said well, of course, like but no one's able to stop that it's a different year for the Eagles offense not getting not allowing
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: All right, coming up on Wednesday, Evan and Nick Falls, they're the host of the season, our interview on his former fellow receiver at Stanford, Richard Sherman.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, get some good insight from him.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Sherman's got a good thing going in the NFC West right now.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: He just puts on whichever hat is harder.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's great man.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be fun.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, check it out.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_01]: If you can't check it out, I'll be a good discussion with him.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great pot.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_00]: Whether, I mean, the firm show or the, I go in a lot of positive feedback last time, everyone was here for good reason.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_00]: So go check that out on Wednesday, the link will be down on the YouTube description.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: All right, brother.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
