- 0:58[SPEAKER_03]: What's up?
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: So season two is in full effect.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: And today, we're going to have the honor of going behind the curtain with the one and only Gary Wilson, aka Bubba, aka the Bowman farmer.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: But before we do that, do our little weekly catch up.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: What is going on in your world's cards and otherwise?
- 1:18[SPEAKER_04]: Aren't you going to kick us off?
- 1:19[SPEAKER_04]: Sure.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_04]: What's going on?
- 1:20[SPEAKER_04]: It's been um.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_04]: I've been doing some buying, not a crazy amount, but I have been doing some buying, kind of, you know, I've made my offseason list, my offseason buys.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_04]: So I've kind of been targeting those guys, the guys that we spoke about probably.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_04]: a month ago, where I was like, okay, the guys that didn't finish strong, but started strong.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_04]: Guys in my head that are buys guys that just didn't have as great of a year and their markets are down.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_04]: So I've kind of started flagging those guys on eBay and seeing new searches and stuff like that.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_04]: I have been ripping some wax me and into buddies, beef and J-wax.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_04]: We got a case of
- 2:01[SPEAKER_04]: 2018 Heritage Searching for Otani Rookie Autos Ripticase.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_04]: It was tons of fun ripping that case.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_04]: We didn't hit any Otani Autos.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_04]: We probably hit, you know, we had a base per box, hit a couple inserts, and then, you know, we had, as a backup, the idea behind it was we had, it's so
- 2:21[SPEAKER_04]: Well, and I don't know if you know there's been every case you get one hot box, which is every box a pack in that case Or in that box sorry every pack in that box has a purple or fractor at least one purple or fractor Unfortunately didn't hit one of those three guys in that hot box
- 2:37[SPEAKER_04]: Um, so, you know, we've scunked a little bit, but I mean, we'll make some money back, but it was the ton of fun.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_04]: Like, it's tough to find experiences.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: Last week in your interview, you told people how the advice was to not rip wax.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: You just do it.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, I love it.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, I said, I, well, my advice was getting started.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, fair enough.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_04]: Is not to rip wax.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, it's, it probably is the right thing to do, not do in general, but it's too much fun.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_04]: It's too much fun.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's good, man.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's good.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: Everything, oh, on the home.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we had a, uh, how to fun weekend.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_04]: Um, did a little went to the wax museum and, um, like kids are obsessed with horror movies.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_04]: So they like to go in this scary area over there where there's Pennywise and Reagan McNeil from the exercise and ad about God.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's, uh, dude, I can't, I like I cannot see a photo of that shit.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_04]: We also went to this cool place called Space Down Brooklyn.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_04]: It's just, it's indoor play area.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_04]: That's just like absolutely awesome.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_04]: It tons of like slides for the kids into like, you know, magnetized and everything.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_04]: So I was awesome.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_04]: A little birthday party action after that.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_04]: So it's fun to feel kids weekend, like always.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to start calling you, Madem, to set up this one for your nickname.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_04]: Sure.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we're regular.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_04]: We're regular there.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_04]: Like I love when we go in there, like give us like, uh, like all right.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_04]: We know.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_04]: We know.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_04]: We know.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_04]: We got them.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_04]: That am mental current.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_04]: Madem, mental current.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_04]: What's up with you, Bubba?
- 4:01[SPEAKER_03]: Guys, I have a radio silence.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_03]: I've had no service.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_03]: You can see I've got in the Matthew Ham beard here, start to grow out here a little bit.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_03]: I've shaved.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_03]: I've milked this morning as a bad idea.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_03]: it's a bad choice.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_03]: I've been away a little bit.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_03]: I just got back here probably the last 30 minutes.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_03]: I actually took a shower, which was nice, warm shower, my house, my wife is, my wife is wondered where I had been.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_03]: She's like, you can leave for three weeks and imagine if I have that for three weeks, what would that love to be like?
- 4:33[SPEAKER_03]: So I've got one more week of this, I do this almost every year that I can.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_03]: I love getting away with the weather cools down here in
- 4:44[SPEAKER_03]: this morning, I went on like a four, five mile walk, but just really been enjoying that on the personal front.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_03]: Really not thinking about anything, not worried about really anything, brought my kids down there, we spent some time together, we got my kids out in the woods and at fires going and everything else.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_03]: So really enjoying this time of year, I am in my freedom here, I guess we'll say, my clear headed space, the edge for baseball is creeping back in more and more and more.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_03]: Finding myself sitting there
- 5:13[SPEAKER_03]: whole dark woods, thinking about the next buys like her.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_03]: So starting to compile the list, starting to really get excited about it.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_03]: And I think just in my searches, I was seeing that pricing is starting to get lean on some of these guys.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_03]: Not the guys that, you know, the big big guys, but even like a mechanical goal the other night.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_03]: I missed the bid.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if you'll solve that.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_03]: If you say a goal went for like 13 hours like
- 5:38[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my goodness, I wanted to buy that card and miss down on it, but it's anyway, I think a lot of buying opportunities about people are sleeping, you know, right after the world series everybody's got a burned out their tired after a long baseball season this next 30 45 days is where you got to eat and then we got the release coming up to so just a lot to be excited about and.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, the Chrome update presale was this morning on on top, which is where the patches are December 10th is the release date.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_04]: Be a good one.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we'll be power.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_03]: Those hold up on on the patches.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_03]: I've never bought one.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_03]: I know you have.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_03]: Are they still that market still seem strong as ever?
- 6:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's only going in one direction, too.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_04]: I think just game worn patches cards are just going to become more and more valuable in my sense.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: Did you see that you see the post where the these a picture for the brewers, I don't know, it's an I can't remember his name, but he got Mary and as a wedding gift, his wife found his one of one day view patch.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think Mike, Mike, I think pulled that and then helped connect the by the unit, the card to his voice to that happen.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, cool stuff like that's super cool with it.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's what's always.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's what's always dynamic about those 101 debut patches.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_04]: For sure.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_04]: For sure.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_04]: What's up with you, Matt?
- 6:59[SPEAKER_04]: You want to talk about any hobby drama?
- 7:01[SPEAKER_04]: Cause there is a lot of hobby drama.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of hobby drama.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be honest, guys.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: I avoid drama like the freaking plague.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: I hate it.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: People who are dramatic.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: I just go on somewhere else with your drama.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have time.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have time for drama.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: And people want to go, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: or you can focus on you and just move on.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I kind of ran to momentarily before we went live today, just about all this hobby drama and all the Instagram warriors out there, wanting to call everybody out and be the nobility of the hobby.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, okay man, good on you.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'm happy for you.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: I am proud of you.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: You get a badge.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_04]: And for those of you, for any of you who didn't like last week's episode of, you know, my interview, and I know it's not personal necessarily to me.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_04]: It's just like hearing about us, one of us specifically, and you know, that is unrelated to cards.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_04]: Sorry.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I know that we can't we can't please everybody.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_04]: Again, we started this to have fun, and we understand the
- 8:11[SPEAKER_04]: for Bowman content, card content, right?
- 8:14[SPEAKER_04]: But we're not robots and we want to talk about what we enjoy as well.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_04]: And what is relevant and right now we're not going to we're not just going to sit here and talk about shield bidding and the drama that comes along with it because if that's what you want to hear, you can go listen to another show, you know, if there's something that we feel is necessary to discuss, we will, you know, but right now it's for baseball and Bowman is at downtime.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_04]: We'll discuss our buys and our sales and, you know, if there's something going on in the market, but for now, we've chosen to start this season off with learning a little bit more about each other and you guys learning going about maybe.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_04]: The, the Bowman stuff, the cards, it's going to be there.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be there.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_04]: I promise.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_04]: I promise there's plenty of time in this all season.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_04]: It'll be there.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_04]: And next season, it'll be in full effect again.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_04]: So bear with us, but if you don't like it, I'm sorry.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like you probably said it a little bit more noble than I didn't just kind of like whatever like move on, but yeah good good week for the hand house dude my life is so busy right now and I'm not okay with it like I have so much going on and it's hard for me to keep up with everything and I like to keep up with everything y'all y'all
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: Have y'all ever been around me when you're opening a case of wax?
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yes.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: What do I do?
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: You don't look very happy.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: But what do I kind of like pace around?
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but what do I do?
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: What do I do with the cards?
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: You pay in the new.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I organize the cards.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: I clean up the trash.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: People's out of calculator.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't like to disorganization.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just have this thing.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like I like things like structured in orderly and manageable, right?
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: Now I will say.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_04]: This guy's talking about who's going to redeem the redemption before we even finish
- 9:48[SPEAKER_03]: I did see Ham get pretty damn excited when that red okay about that was different and then he forgot about card by cleaning up cards for a while About 30 minutes there.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: He got out of character have this thing when like things get a little bit out of and honestly Sounds like I'm a control freak and I really am not a control freak.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: I come at normal life, but I live with a lot of disorder with five kids
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: So I like structure.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: I like knowing where I'm going and what's going on.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: I like to be able to manage the things that are on my plate.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: And here lately, I have felt very out of sorts with being able to manage all of the things that are going on in my world, especially little Matt.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: And it's so funny.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the other day, he asked me about cards.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: And this is just exactly where I am.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: I look there straight up, I said little Matt, if we never bought or sold another card, I would be completely content and okay.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: What are you saying so you're out now?
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like no, I'm just telling you I'm okay to be in I'm okay to be out, but I just need to know like what are we gonna do?
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I have a question.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: Do you actually call him little Matt?
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, honestly, I call him that but like in But I talked to him like that.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like I will say little Matt just because around our house That's like the hobby direction.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like we have this
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: 1933 Gowdy, I'm not Gowdy, but sports kings, Jim Thorpe.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: And we got a nice offer on it.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: We actually tried to bid on some stuff on fanatics last night.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: We lost out on some Jordan stuff.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: So there's some movement.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: I tell you what I did by the, I'm pretty excited about this.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody else thinks I'm a nerd.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: But about the 1989 score, Bo Jackson, with the bat on the shoulders.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's cool, oh, card.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: I bought it in an SGC 10, and here's why.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: Way back when we got started.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: a set of cards.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: And in there was a sleeve, the Bo Jackson score that I sent to SGC and we domed it.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I sold it.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_00]: And all of a sudden I was looking around and I was like, I want that card back in that same SGC holder.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: So at least my mind, I can tell me that's the same once of the cards that I've bought this week.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: I bought a score Bo Jackson SGC 10 to go with my, I've got the poster on my wall with all of his Beckett magazines above
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the kind of stuff that I'd like.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: Just come over.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_03]: I've been thinking about this since last week.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_03]: We got this great listener.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a who you are.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_03]: I don't remember the name.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_03]: But I really, really, really appreciated this guy that sent in the impersonations.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_03]: After last week, we found out that we had some hidden talent here with AM.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_03]: and this guy goes on and on his own and sends us the impersonation, which I really, really did appreciate.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_03]: It was hilarious.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_03]: It was hilarious.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_03]: I want to go ahead and announce this, okay?
- 12:36[SPEAKER_03]: And this is, I haven't thought the current about this.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_03]: I haven't thought the hint about this.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_03]: I want to do a giveaway.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, and I'm going to give away one of my cards.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to say it.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_03]: There'll be a minimum of $1,000.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to give away.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, but I want over the next couple weeks and we can do a little bit on this online or whatever the best.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_03]: 90 second impersonation of our show and Matt Ham, Eric Manocorn and myself, the best 90 second clip that we get will receive this card.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to start taking the entries, you send it in, you send in your best intro.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_04]: Best of all the voice mail number and in our bio and leave that and leave your best in personation.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_03]: What's the number ham?
- 13:21[SPEAKER_03]: What's that number?
- 13:22[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, thank you.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_04]: Thanks so.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_03]: It ain't eight odd CEOs.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_03]: You can also go to our Instagram and send us an audio message, a food sports card CEO, but I, I tell you, I enjoyed it so much.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think I think our listeners would enjoy to see that the top, maybe we even let y'all vote on.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see how many we get in here,
- 13:41[SPEAKER_03]: the winner, I'm going to give away at a minimum a thousand dollar value in cars.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: I like that a lot, and in two confirm it is 888 PODC EOS, 888 PODC EOS.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_00]: You can leave a voicemail or on the on the Instagram page.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_04]: 90 seconds before we get into to Gary here, I just want to take a second to complain about something, not to be dramatic here, but it's like
- 14:07[SPEAKER_04]: I want a card on golden auctions last weekend and I I paid immediately.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_04]: The card still hasn't shipped like how long does it take to ship a freaking card golden exact same thing with fanatics.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_04]: Pay the immediately still hasn't shipped yet really because I got my fanatics one that I won after that auction on Sunday night that I won.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_04]: I've got that card today.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_04]: My card doesn't even shipped yet from golden by a $25,000 card and the card hasn't shipped like
- 14:36[SPEAKER_04]: me a break.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_04]: What card did you buy?
- 14:38[SPEAKER_04]: Mike Trout hope diamond.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: Is it down?
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_04]: No, it's PSA 9.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if there are any tens.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was going to say, that's like a pop seven or something probably.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's out of 60.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_04]: I've always wanted that card.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_04]: There hasn't been there's been two for sale in the last two weeks, but before that, the last private sale was like 2022.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_04]: Nice.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_03]: Did you all see the post?
- 15:00[SPEAKER_03]: And this is a topic for another day, too.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know why I'm bringing it up.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_03]: But I want to forget about it remind me to bring it up again later.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_03]: About how people always are riding on players.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_03]: for leading to go to teams and becoming champions of some sort, whether we just give all or football, and they're talking about show hey.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_03]: And I'll show hey, you know, left, you know, the angels, trout's been there almost 15 seasons.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_03]: Show hey, leaves and two seasons goes to the Dodgers once two championships.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_03]: No one's saying anything about show hey, leaving for championships.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_03]: Um, um, what is that inner into y'all at all?
- 15:31[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean,
- 15:32[SPEAKER_04]: I thought about it, but baseball is different in my mind when it doeskeball, specifically because basketball, you can have as an individual player, you can have such a bigger impact on the game as a superstar than you kind of baseball, right?
- 15:46[SPEAKER_04]: Like you can have a big impact, but like it's not a significant as basketball.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_04]: And with baseball, I've always thought about its statistics at the end.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_04]: It's individual statistics and it's not, you're not, you're not, you're, your legacy is not based on world series titles.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_04]: It's based on individual statistics, all of them, individual statistics, where as in basketball, it's how many championships has LeBron one compared to Jordan.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_04]: How many championships is this cookie?
- 16:13[SPEAKER_04]: Everything is championship.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_04]: We're like, you know, football,
- 16:19[SPEAKER_04]: It's not, I don't, like, with baseball, that's not nearly as relevant, like in my mind, like maybe some people judge it that way, but I don't that's not how baseball history is like you could ask name a great ball player in the best, like I don't know how many championships say one to the matter to me, it just doesn't matter to me, you know what how many show here I have I know he has to because they're very recent, but like it doesn't matter to me.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_04]: like it doesn't matter to them.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think championships matter.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_04]: They're not as important in baseball.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_04]: It's individuals statistics.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_04]: So it's the point is, is that like, that's why.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_04]: That's why.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: Never really thought of it that way.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: And what about you again, man?
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think people will find any reason to make drama.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like now what LeBron did with basketball, you know, like more power to him.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: He can do it.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: He's LeBron.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: Go to the heat, go to the calves, go to the lakers.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: Do what you got to do.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like I was watching this thing about Jordan the other night, though.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan stayed at the bulls.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: The starting line up in 97 was Jordan or 96.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think Jordan, Pippin, B.J.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: Armstrong.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: Will or do and the otaga haris grant no coach like come on to coach that's the five right that's the five and you look at the Lakers line up over the last few years you look at whatever line up with like all these Hall of Famers on the stack I mean again I just Jordan did it and just elevated the entire team around him
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: and then you have these guys basically buying championships.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I will say that when you look at the pitching staff and the one through four hitters for the Dodgers, it's pretty clear that they did something similar.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean with Freddie, with Joe Hay, with Mookie, with you know, like
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's just so much more to it than baseball with bullpen and, you know, I get, and that's why I really wish you would have seen, you know, the, then pull the upset because they were just scrappy, you know what I mean, and it's just, I, I like the fact that there weren't a whole bunch of superstars on the other side, you know what I mean, I kind of would like to see that, but to your point current, I get it.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_04]: You know, baseball is more of an individual, you know, sport for whatever reason it's it's individual statistics carry more weight over championships like George Brett great ball play right how many world series as you want I have no idea and doesn't doesn't matter Johnny bench best catcher of all time right how many world series what Tony Gwen.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_04]: I have no idea how many world series he wants.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_04]: I have many world series he has won.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_04]: I have no idea doesn't matter.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_04]: But you know Bill Russell, you know exactly how many championship hit.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_04]: Chip C has Colby, you know exactly the number.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_04]: Jordan, you know exactly the number, it's not.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_04]: We average 30 points per game, it doesn't matter unless they have a championship.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's just the way it is.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, I think you're right.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_03]: And now in football, it's the same way when you look at Brady and my homes and all this other stuff.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_03]: You bring him.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_04]: You bring him in.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Peyton Manning in his day, I don't think there's anybody ever better.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_03]: We'll ever touch what Peyton Manning did in his prime.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_03]: But Tom Brady's going to be to go because all the.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the rings exactly.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: Always good conversations boys, we can go on and on and on, but today we have dedicated a special episode to get to know Gary Wilson.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: Get to know Gary.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: Today is the bubble Wilson episode of the sports card CEO.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: So, current, I know that you have been mulling over all of your questions to Lase Gary with here, but before we go there, Bubba give us a bit of a snapshot into the life and times of yourself.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_03]: I am 39 years old, before the next May, I married my high school sweetheart, then with my wife since we were 15 years old.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_03]: So we've been together through 24.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_03]: We got married 22 after she graduated college, became a school teacher and we have
- 20:02[SPEAKER_03]: four kids together, three boys, 12, 10, 9, and then we have a daughter, Adelaide, who is four, we live right outside of Athens, Georgia.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_03]: I use that at the University of Georgia home.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_03]: I use that that's kind of like the landmark because I don't say I'm from Atlanta because I'm not from Atlanta.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_03]: It happens is quite different than Atlanta, but
- 20:23[SPEAKER_03]: started that started in college myself and we'll get more in the questions later, but started a business in college, so it's an absolute business.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_03]: And we can go into any of those questions later.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_04]: Go college.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_03]: I went to a local community college to start at a place called North Georgia University or college or whatever it was at the time.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_03]: And it was in a goat pasture over here, right outside of Athens.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_03]: with the plans of going to the University of Georgia at some point, but I actually quit school myself more a year when I started my business.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_03]: They've got another great.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yep, I never made it through college.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_03]: I always thought I would go back and do it, never did it.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_03]: And so, so the business and now you're happily hunting and yeah, well, no, I, um, so I we can go more into those questions and just want to ask about my story of selling it and this and that, but yeah, so the business and was a part of that business,
- 21:16[SPEAKER_03]: really as of till about April of this year and then I'd back pretty much all the way out to where now.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's, it's will sell again probably by the end of the year.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_04]: It looks like I really really tell us what kind of business
- 21:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_03]: I earn a turf care company.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_03]: So similar to that, like true green.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_03]: I don't have to have true green work way all of that, but they're like the number one turf care company in the country, the billion dollar company.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_03]: And so that's what we do turf care started off is in my mom and dad's basement in a water heater room.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_03]: That was my first.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_03]: office literally was in the room with waterators and the first time I ever went on on one I had a full has not seen on.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_03]: I mean literally I was the customer was looking and I mean like what the hell is this guy doing?
- 21:59[SPEAKER_03]: I'd like to freaking like mask on like nuclear mask and like looking at them on that scene of breaking bad, making that.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_03]: And on these people to your hurts frame, there you are.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_03]: Back in those times, like I mean I was scared of the chemical
- 22:10[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't know what I was doing and I know what they were.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_03]: And so, come along with us since then, we have a time I sold it.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_03]: We had about 35,000 customers in Atlanta.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_03]: And so, I had about 200 employees done with sold it.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_03]: Now that business has about 3,000 employees.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: And we're in, I think, 17, 18 states.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_04]: Awesome.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: So, Kern, but it's kind of set us up here.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: So, go ahead and let's dive in and I'll let you kick off, and then we'll just keep rock and roll.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_04]: All right, so, 39 years old, when did you start collecting cards?
- 22:40[SPEAKER_03]: uh... was i was a kid i mean i was probably five or six and then it was like a stop situation or what you know i don't really i mean i collected hard man when i was younger i was a huge baseball fan i mean i love baseball i mean i play baseball time i was three years old dad's on me up for t-ball and i was three years old so i played baseball my entire life was a baseball maniac i was like little mat in the way that i knew every step
- 23:06[SPEAKER_03]: I watched every single Land of Brave Game, TBS, at every game, I knew every stat, I knew every single thing on any player you could ask in Major League Baseball, and so then when it came to where I could go to the gas station or the grocery store and they're sitting there and my mom and dad or I would
- 23:23[SPEAKER_03]: pull on the shirt please please please need a pack and you know and um got into it that way and had the binders and you know and just collected and I let's love looking at the stats, you know and just really looking at the card that way and then I guess probably about middle school probably seventh eighth grade, right for high school,
- 23:40[SPEAKER_03]: probably cards at that time and kind of lost their luster as well.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you know, I don't remember being at gas stations and grocery stores as much anymore for reference.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I was I graduated in 2004.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, late like 90s, early 2000s, I just don't remember card being kind of in the general light anymore.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_03]: Like they were like there are now like they were readily available.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_03]: So that's kind of when it died away.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, people just didn't talk about it anymore.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_03]: They were kind of a dead
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: Um, then, you know, then I, I rekindled that, you know, what my kids, okay.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_04]: So it was when your kids came in and started buying boom in and all that kind of stuff.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_03]: I started just kind of getting into my kids just for fun at first.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_03]: My kids ran to it.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_03]: I was into it.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_03]: And then when I sold the business, I was like, you know, I see this opportunity as an alternative investment.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_03]: So I never did it coming back in as a collector.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_03]: at all.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_03]: I've always come in as an alternative investment.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_03]: And since then, have found some cards that I collect.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_03]: I think somebody asked that question the other day.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_03]: Actually, like, we always hear about you investing.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_03]: Like, what else do you do?
- 24:43[SPEAKER_03]: Honestly, I've never been like,
- 24:46[SPEAKER_03]: Since I was a kid, I haven't had like, oh, I collect this guy, I collect that guy.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_03]: But now I do collect braves.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_03]: And I have started collecting, which I think is pretty unique.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_03]: I like this set that are.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_03]: There's a grail, there's like a golden grail set of Hall of Famer Placts that have their autographs on it, their true autographs.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_03]: And I've collected their version of one of those.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_03]: And those are just ones I'm put away in my office.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_03]: So it's every single home of a member that's alive still today.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_03]: They made a like a the actual physical 2% plaque of them.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_03]: And they've seen them and they've signed it.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously in that card, but I collect you every single one of those.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_00]: That sounds really cool.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: Cool.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: So Baba, you know, I've spent enough time around you to know that like you, you have a super competitive personality like you you're super competitive super driven and I and I can see where like that's what made your business successful just that kind of grit grind, you know, kind of
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: whatever.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: When did that start to emerge for you?
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: And how has it matured as you've gotten older?
- 25:48[SPEAKER_03]: I would say it emerged when I was a kid.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_03]: My mom and dad are incredibly hardworking people.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_03]: We never all woke up without a with a pop and piss and really.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_03]: We never had money.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_03]: We never had much, but they always taught us work ethic.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_03]: My parents work really, really hard.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_03]: And they worked for everything they had and I saw that.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_03]: I saw my mom and I lose everything as a kid and I saw them rebuild everything.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_03]: So I saw that work ethic through them.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_03]: That was ingrained into us.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_03]: And so I would say I took that into sports.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_03]: Never a great student.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_03]: Honestly, we just took it into sports and then when sports were over for me was probably the darkest days of my life Kind of in those early like, you know, 19, 20 days like I always thought I was I wanted to be a pro athlete right and then here I was like not even pursuing that collegiate me.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I could have put it on and chased it and football and I didn't because my wife and I where we were at I would have gone to some small school probably in Mississippi
- 26:43[SPEAKER_03]: Or Ellen, the way and I just didn't want to do that at the time, but I had this thing missing inside of me as a 19 year old where sports are gone like what do I do now right what do I do now that was the way I felt and then when all the sudden college I was like doing the same thing I did high school again I was like man I hate this and then here came business this thing I had to relearn
- 27:06[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't know anything about it, I got to learn about it, I got to study it, I got to take and put all my efforts and my energy and my juices into it.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_03]: And there's this thing that you could just see progress and you could see it growing.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's where the passion came from.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, just taking that from, it was that that could be local for me.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_03]: Sports was over and so business became that vehicle for me that I wanted to be the best I could be at.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_03]: What positions you playing baseball?
- 27:30[SPEAKER_03]: I was a first base third base pitcher.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_03]: I was always a really good pitcher.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_03]: 10, 11, 12 years old, I want to tell you I was going to propose, I mean, because I mean, I was really, I mean, I'm not even just that weirdo that's I didn't have a podcast to any good I was, but I was a younger kid.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_03]: I was really, really, really, really good better.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, like.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_03]: I've got so many balls and no hitters and perfect games.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_03]: And I didn't throw hard.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_03]: I was just a great bat excite.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_03]: I had control.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_03]: I'll get throw the ball wherever one to throw.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_03]: I knew I had a pitch at a young age.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_03]: And I was playing in a state tournament about 10 or 11 years old.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_03]: And they were making a throw waterlogs off walls.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_03]: Back in those days.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_03]: So harder, so harder.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_03]: And I was throwing them as hard as I could.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_03]: It felt something kind of pop.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_03]: And back in those days, Tommy John one, even a thing.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_03]: But every time from that per point on, the rest of my life, I could only throw
- 28:20[SPEAKER_03]: before my arm would just swell up, and I couldn't even throw.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_03]: And so I got an appointment where hitting, throwing anything, just really just painful.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_03]: So anyway, that was kind of the end of my, uh, my career.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_04]: And that is the difference between bubble Wilson and Choyotoni.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_03]: That was it.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_04]: You're current.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_04]: Back to Apple.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_04]: I want to know your current cards is an alternative asset for you.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_04]: So how much would you say you have in inventory right now?
- 28:48[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's funny you ask I was just doing that honestly in my time when I have been home the last couple weeks, which has not been a lot.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_03]: But I started all kind of work on that and compiling exactly where I am after last year because that's old a lot in the last 18 months a lot.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_03]: I would say though, I've probably had somewhere around 4 million in inventory which is dramatically reduced at one point.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_03]: I had about 10 million when I first got in and it was 10 million of the wrong stuff.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_03]: And so I say that in fairness, it went all the wrong stuff.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_03]: Aaron judge build me out.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_03]: I bought a ton of Aaron judge.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_03]: I think as they all know, anybody that doesn't know, I was probably the Lord.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think this is even challengeable.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_03]: I was the Lord as their Aaron judge auto collector in the country.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_03]: No, there's no way anybody had more because I mean, I mean, I had, I mean, I just and luckily I did well with him.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_03]: I was smart enough to kind of hold on to him.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_03]: Even do like the downturn, like he was down 40% my butt was puckered up like that.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_03]: And I was able to kind of get out of him and I still have some of him left and I've
- 29:53[SPEAKER_03]: continue to sell it.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_03]: I sold some of it too early.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_03]: It's just as I had it all the Bobby Whitt stuff sold it too early out of fear.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_03]: I sold a lot of really good stuff out of fear, but on the flip side, I sold a lot of Julio Rodriguez on the top side.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_03]: Now here I am buying him for a third of that.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_03]: So I made some good choices.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_03]: I made some really bad ones at the beginning.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: you know, hopefully I'll make a little better choices now.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, and, and you're kind of card history, which, but, you know, we first met because you bought a card off of us off of eBay and then connected it the first national back in 2023 like in person got to see you there and I remember you rolling up and just rolling out like this big giant Zion case you just opened it up and it's like all of these entities and all this kind of stuff and you'd basically just m on and cleaned out.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, from my, I haven't not
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: like in any way, you just cleaned out PWCC, like you were just buying PWCC of all the top end cards that you saw.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_00]: Is that fair?
- 30:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't mean to be like, that's just where I don't know.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_03]: I think I, I think there was, uh, there was a period of time I had a buddy of mine, uh, David Barclay who was still buddies this day.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_03]: He kind of got me in a football and I had bought it in T's through him.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_03]: He was going to find him and pour me kind of a broker really.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_03]: Finding them and then we had a little deal of reigns and honestly I did really, really well What's football he actually kind of helped me kind of get into bone men
- 31:12[SPEAKER_03]: him and Lucas Hamill and y'all that are Lucas.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_03]: That's how I got into Bowman, honestly, was through Lucas and David, met them at a card show and David's like, do, why are you buying all this shit over here?
- 31:22[SPEAKER_03]: You need to be buying, if you're going to buy stuff, you need to be buying the best.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_03]: You need to be buying in T, not at a 49, you need to be buying 99.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_03]: You need to be buying Bowman first, to baseball.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_03]: If you like baseball, you need to be buying that, not a sticker on those.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_03]: And that was like the first time I heard somebody say like Bowman first.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_03]: And after that, it clicked.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_03]: I've been Bowman ever since.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry, really I owe that to Lucas Amel and David Barkley to Wow.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: So in saying that my setup was you had all of these crazy cars.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I just remember looking at the case, I'm like, dude, this is some crazy crazy inventory.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: Is there a card that you can think of that you've sold that you just go dang it?
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: I probably shouldn't have sold that one.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: Choose one.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, what's the one that hurt the most?
- 32:07[SPEAKER_03]: At this point crazy enough to say it I sold that show hey gold ps10 10
- 32:12[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, whatever.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_03]: I sold it for 215,000 cars probably worth 5,600,000.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what it's worth.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_03]: That one's stung.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I sold.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_03]: I sold some big Bobby with it.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_03]: Man, I had a lot of big, I mean, I sold a lot of stuff and I should sold.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_00]: I sold something.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: Did you, did you, did you dime a Jordan, uh, was it a Jordan LeBron dual auto?
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: What was that one?
- 32:35[SPEAKER_03]: As a Kobe Jordan sold it earlier.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, made money on all these things we're talking about, but I just sold them early.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_03]: But I think that's, I'm okay with that now.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_03]: Like I mean, honestly, that's the kind of collector I've become.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_03]: That's not my place in the space.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_03]: My place is not the one to be the guy that gets it over here.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_03]: I want to be the guy that gets it over here.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's what I've learned about myself.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_03]: I used to think I was going to be the guy that was going to get it here and then take it all the way over here.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's not who I am.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_03]: And honestly, Ham, you've been hopeful for me that even since his podcast began and becoming more that way.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_03]: And I think Kurn was probably the same way as me.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_03]: I found not mistaken.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_03]: You wanted a long, long game and now have become a little more shortened in the game.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_04]: So I think that's probably
- 33:25[SPEAKER_04]: how much money you spend on cards.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, not a dot to the dollar.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_03]: She doesn't really look at our finances at all.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_03]: So she doesn't care.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_03]: She's got trust me with that because I mean, she hasn't worked and does she think you're crazy?
- 33:37[SPEAKER_04]: No, it's our kids.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I mean, she thought I was crazy as hell when I had super Santa sacks getting delivered to my door three to half years ago.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_03]: Literally, they were backing up USPS car trucks and I had a sweatshop down here in my basement going.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_03]: She's got pictures of me holding these like Santa sacks of carbs.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_03]: And I mean, you know,
- 33:57[SPEAKER_03]: Frankly, I was freaking crazy, man, buying all that crap, the way I was buying that.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I mean, but since then, I mean, I think she understands now that I enjoy it, and that I've had some success.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think she's kind of like, hey, whatever, you know what's best.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_04]: When you wake up in the morning and you grab your phone, what's the first thing you do?
- 34:16[SPEAKER_04]: What's the first app you open?
- 34:18[SPEAKER_03]: The Bible.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_04]: On your phone?
- 34:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_03]: There's a verse, there's a verse of the day, pops up every single day.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_04]: Me too.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_03]: I'll drink my coffee, if I'm starting my day right, that's what I'm starting my day wrong.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, then I'm somebody's texted me or something and I'm right into a text number.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_03]: My day is off.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_03]: So if I was starting it right, it's in peace.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_03]: I'm at the Bible app and then I've dropped done that.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_03]: Then I'm usually just trying to lay out my day.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_03]: Here's what I need to do it done the day.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_03]: Here's what I don't, you know, right now, like where I'm at, like then at the farm and stuff like my mind's clear.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't have to, you know, like I'm not, I'm just kind of like.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_04]: So what do you actually do with the farm?
- 35:00[SPEAKER_04]: Do you plant corn?
- 35:02[SPEAKER_03]: I've got 2,000 acre form outside of Athens and we have cows there.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_03]: Number one.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_03]: So we have cattle.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_03]: Just spit out your jewelry.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_03]: Cattle or actually known as Cattle there in Georgia.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_03]: people eat them for beef sometimes and they make milk.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_03]: But now we have two folks actually run my cattle down there.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_03]: I have two other guys that help on the farm.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_03]: But I mean, it's a recreation fact for me outside of that.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I've got three or four houses down there that we my family enjoy, we fish, we hunt, we
- 35:35[SPEAKER_03]: Rod four wheelers, a hike down there.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I'm just out the worst.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's like my own, you go to the zoo to get outside.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_03]: I go to the woods.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_04]: Do you have a guilty pleasure and what is it?
- 35:48[SPEAKER_03]: You don't do pleasure.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_03]: What is it?
- 35:51[SPEAKER_03]: guilty pleasure.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_03]: Probably cards, man.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I would have to say.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's, I mean, that's a pretty, I mean, I don't know if that's a guilty, but I mean, as much as I bought, I'd have to say it itch.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I get comes to mind right away.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I'd have to say that, and I buy lots of cars.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I buy, I like,
- 36:10[SPEAKER_03]: I like vehicles, I buy new cars and ATVs every year, general like so.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_03]: That's it, that's a guilty pleasure as well.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: So it was funny, current earlier when you said bubble, when you wake up, what do you do?
- 36:21[SPEAKER_00]: And it was like on a tee, I thought he was going to say, I pissed excellent.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: I should, Ricky, Ricky Bobby.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: And so, Bubba is funny man, like, ah, you know, we came to visit you guys on our way to the all-star game.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: And you were like, hey, man, stop by my farm.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: And initially, I was kind of like, okay, like, I live in Eastern Carolina.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: There's lots of farms, like, you're a good friend.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I'll check your farm out.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I drove up and it's like, there's gates.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, Okay, now I know why he told me to come and check this out.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: This place is pretty incredible.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like I mean, it is your, you know, chunk of the earth that is, you know, and it's it's aptly name for you paradise farms and and so.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, what is it about land ownership that you, that you like?
- 37:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's just so odd to me because I'm in the middle here.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_00]: I live in South Eastern North Carolina.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_00]: Current is in an apartment in, you know, Manhattan.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_00]: And you've got 2,000 acres down here.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's fascinating that there's probably not a lot of people that can really connect with the idea of owning all of this acreage and stuff.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: And so what was it about land ownership that was just important for you when you sold your business?
- 37:31[SPEAKER_03]: You know, man, I don't know.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_03]: It's always been that way for me.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_03]: Ever since I was a kid, when I would go on any piece of land, I had this gravitational pool to just walking and seeing land.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_03]: I love nature.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_03]: I love land.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, I'll give you an example of this place that I bought down in where my farm is.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_03]: There's actually two different graveyards on this property.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_03]: One on one side, one on the other.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_03]: And the other morning, I was sitting there actually in the woods, hunting,
- 38:00[SPEAKER_03]: this.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_03]: I looked at the headstones before I want to look up the lineage of these people.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_03]: These people had lived on this land.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_03]: They're whole family since the late 18 1700s.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_03]: These people had been there.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_03]: And there they are buried, life over 200 something years later.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_03]: And it's like
- 38:14[SPEAKER_03]: that's life like land and like like our life like we're meant to be outside.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_03]: We're we're meant to be on the land.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_04]: Do you have a favorite TV show?
- 38:24[SPEAKER_04]: Do you watch TV at all?
- 38:25[SPEAKER_03]: I love TV but I don't watch that much TV as I used to.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_03]: We were my wife and I were in our mid 20s.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_03]: We had kids.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_03]: We would Netflix binge.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_03]: I don't remember the show Prison Break was huge into that show back in the day.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_03]: I love all that kind of stuff.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_03]: I love stranger things about come back out.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_03]: Los stranger things.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, trying to think of me, all that type stuff.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I love breaking bad, extra, all those textures.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_04]: I just watched an Netflix series, a binge watch, they call, just came out billionaires, bunker, you gotta watch, well, you gotta watch it with subtitles though.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_04]: Don't watch it dubbed.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_04]: It's good.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_04]: It's a subtitle show.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's a Spanish show.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's good though.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: Interesting.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's not, it's not.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: So, bubbing another question for you here, you know, like I said, if none of you for a few years now, you and your family travel, you know, a good bit, you've sold this business.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you've kind of reached the pinnacle of what most people would say as light years beyond whatever they could hope for.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_00]: They, you know, work really hard, built this business, you know, kind of sold it, and financial freedom is there traveling.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever it is that you kind of want to do at your disposal is
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: to probably be done.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: What's left?
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what do you see on the radar from here?
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, when you start thinking about bucket lists and travel and all this kind of stuff, it's kind of like, you know, you can only eat so many stakes or take so many vacations, like, what keeps you rocking and rolling now that you've kind of reached this pinnacle at 39 years old?
- 39:53[SPEAKER_03]: I get all my knees and pray that prayer every single day.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_03]: Like, what's what's my purpose?
- 39:56[SPEAKER_03]: Like, what do you want for me?
- 39:57[SPEAKER_03]: Like, what's next?
- 39:58[SPEAKER_03]: Like, that is the prayer.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you know, how do I make an impact?
- 40:02[SPEAKER_03]: So I want to make an impact.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_03]: this blessing for reason.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_03]: So I want to make an impact on our plan too.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_03]: And in any way, whether that's giving or that's being bald, I mean, whatever I have to do in any capacity I can.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_03]: And then I want to win.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_03]: I still want to win.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I don't, I'm not.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, until the day I die, I want to win.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_03]: I think if I'm doing cards, you don't know me.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_03]: This is kind of personal.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_03]: I'm all in, I'm all in.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_03]: Like I can't.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_03]: I'm that's kind of guy and I want to win.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_03]: So I still want to win anything I'm going to do if I'm going to build some houses recently over the last year.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to build houses.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_03]: I want to be traded building houses.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_03]: If I'm going to do me a commercial real estate and I'm going to rent and lease buildings, I want to understand perfect commercial real estate.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_03]: So that to me, I don't know from a business standpoint what's next.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_03]: I really don't.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not in a hurry to find out for the first time in my life in over 20 years.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_03]: I can actually sit here and enjoy the quiet for a second and I want to do that because I feel like for the first time I can.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_03]: I want to enjoy that my kids are going to be 4 9 10 and 12.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_03]: And we get to go travel and do stuff while they're young because one day I didn't want me.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_03]: So that's really what I want to do now, but I do want to make an impact and I want to
- 41:13[SPEAKER_03]: I want to, in my heart, I want to help as many people as I can and in like I, I'm going to do that before I'm dead and gone on my headstone, I want to be known as somebody that helped people last meal death row what is it man we must be like brothers from another mother because I'm going to give the same answers you I my favorite meal I've ever had in my entire life.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_03]: Was there was this restaurant when I was back in my college days that made chicken palm, what tortilini, like a spinach cheddar, like spinach like, like ricotta, uh, tortilini, and it was the freaking bomb with a nice salad on the side.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_03]: I haven't had it in a long long time, but it was perfectly battered.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_04]: Do remember the name of the restaurant?
- 41:59[SPEAKER_04]: Do.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_04]: It's still open.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_03]: No, it's hadn't been open in years.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_03]: I can't, I don't actually don't remember the name.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_03]: But it was so, it was so good, man.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_03]: And so that's probably the route I would go.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, just something really hardy like that.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a hardy guy over a sweet guy and I'm a, that's, what are you drinking alcohol?
- 42:18[SPEAKER_03]: Urban, I used to be a dude vodka guy back in the, anybody that knows that's Mountain Dew vodka back in my,
- 42:26[SPEAKER_03]: To our early 20 to generate years, I was drinking that straight up at Georgia Florida games and I was housing the 20 beers smashing beer bottles are my head I was that guy, but in my older more refined years, I think he up I do enjoy a nice bourbon and I don't smoke.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't drink very often, but if I am going to drink, drink a bourbon, and if I'm going to smoke, I'm going to smoke and get cigar.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: Dude, I've picked up a couple of nice bottles of bourbon here over the past couple of weeks.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_00]: Just randomly had the opportunity to have a full proof and got a rock-hill farms.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know, I like the holidays, especially over the holidays, like having a nice poor ring some to the farm by the fire.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's a perfect time.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_03]: I guess.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_03]: I know.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_04]: If you could buy one modern Bowman card right now, what would it be?
- 43:09[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it doesn't exist.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it is just a clue show.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, are you considering that modern or I have to go like Prospect.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_03]: Prospect.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of in super character all that all.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_03]: If it came out, I mean, no doubt about it.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's to me, that's going to be a million dollar card one day.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: So, Bubba, have you ever had a and all your time in the woods?
- 43:27[SPEAKER_00]: You ever had any big foot encounters?
- 43:29[SPEAKER_03]: I thought you were going in a different direction there.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know what was going to go that direction.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you can ask me the other version of that question.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_03]: No big foot.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_03]: I've heard people that had had those encounters.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_03]: I believe in aliens, but I don't believe in big foot.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_00]: OK. Do you believe in aliens?
- 43:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I do.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_00]: Do you guys believe in aliens?
- 43:46[SPEAKER_00]: I personally don't believe that aliens are what we attribute them to be.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: I believe that they're spiritual and nature.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_00]: But yes, I do believe in the concept we term aliens.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_04]: Can you believe in them?
- 43:54[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_04]: I think there's extra terrestrial life out there.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: I would, I would say other dimensional, but yes, whatever, whatever, Steve, I'm not a model.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_00]: There's definitely, uh, there's not a planet is my point.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_00]: They're not like from another planet.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_03]: That's my, where the front of you guys dig a little deeper here, man.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, where the front of you.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: There are no dimensions, spiritual and nature, spiritual, spiritual, spiritual.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's spiritual beings that manifest physically.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: Some more like angelic demonic things.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_00]: So they're ghosts.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, not ghosts.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_00]: More angelic demons.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_04]: Like so like so like so like the exorcist like that's real.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_00]: And you're yes.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: In mind, you think that's real.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: How's that?
- 44:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, demonic possession is 1,000% real.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_04]: power of Christ compels you.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen it.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_00]: Are you an exorcist?
- 44:51[SPEAKER_00]: I have been in people's houses and prayed for spirits that were present and keeping them awake at night.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I have definitely felt that whole room.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_04]: All right, I believe in aliens, too.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_03]: This is my last episode is taken to carry people are going to kill you.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_04]: Have you ever had a, I mean, how many crap have you had to take in the woods?
- 45:15[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I'll give you the best crap story of all time.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_03]: You really want to, we really want to go on your best crap story of all time.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_03]: Best crap story of all time, we're sitting there.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_03]: You got to go, and I'm probably
- 45:27[SPEAKER_03]: 14 years old you got to go and in the woods you got to go for a long current you can't just pop a squat there right even though where you got to do it Ever log got and then you wipe with leaves all right if you're in the woods, which haven't done that a long time We got a bathroom with a farm now.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm gonna graduate from that, but so I am found a good log With my white things are looking good take off They're my coveralls back on walking through the woods and I keep the winds blowing this way and I keep getting this stuff like gosh
- 45:55[SPEAKER_03]: what in the world is stepping something, looking all around, looking all around, kind of gracious.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_03]: That's sharp.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_03]: What's going on here?
- 46:03[SPEAKER_03]: How finally I could figure it out afternoon?
- 46:05[SPEAKER_03]: I got back, got back to my house, or the wherever we were at, when the house back in those days, you got back like a camper or something.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_03]: Got there, took off my cover all
- 46:15[SPEAKER_03]: in my hood.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_03]: In your hood, I had been carrying it around and you put it in my shirt.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: In my hood, it's sweater.
- 46:23[UNKNOWN]: That happened.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_03]: Because you pulled a cover all the way up like that.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_03]: Curl would have been so excited because he'd have been like a monkey at the zoo.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_03]: And then like, yeah, in the cover all.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_03]: Like, uh, in the cover alls.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, wasn't it?
- 46:38[SPEAKER_03]: Like, um, yeah, I want to get experienced.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_00]: I love how the podcast is now developed into our best crap stories and it's fantastic.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_03]: Keep reading the boys.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_03]: What else you got?
- 46:52[SPEAKER_03]: We're asking crap stories.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's what you got.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: Can you come exercise my kids?
- 46:57[SPEAKER_03]: That's about a hand question.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's needed, it's needed, it's needed.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Gary, so here we go.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_00]: You had asked this, I have two questions for you.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_00]: It asked current this, and I'm going to ask it back to you.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_00]: What is the best investment you've ever made?
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I guess I'm a wife.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_00]: Don't you know that wife thing?
- 47:12[SPEAKER_00]: He did that thing.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_03]: No, I don't think there's any doubt.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_03]: The best investment that I had, 1000% outside of Meta stock at $100, which was a phenomenal investment for me.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_03]: I bought Meta stock at the DIP during COVID at about $88 and I bought a lot of it.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_03]: under the direction of a very smart gentleman.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's stock today's, like 650, that was just like 780.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_03]: So that's been a very good investment.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_03]: Outside of that and some other good stock purchases, was just investing in myself in the business.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_03]: Investing, everything, when I first started my business, my dad gave me phenomenal advice for two or three years, I've put everything back into it to Shabbat.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_03]: When our business was just that baby business that had no money, had nothing,
- 47:58[SPEAKER_03]: I lived on a ramen and the business needed every single dollar to get going, and that sacrifice allowed us to be, I mean, I started that business, you know, in the year 2005.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_03]: So as you all know, what 2007 and 8 was like.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_03]: If we hadn't been lean, we wouldn't be in business today.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_03]: And so to me investing back into my business at the beginning and not robbing it up everything, allowed us to survive.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_00]: So secondary question here, Biggest fear.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_00]: So this is what you ask current.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_00]: What's your greatest fear?
- 48:30[SPEAKER_00]: And you kind of phrase that, you know, hey, what keeps you up at night?
- 48:33[SPEAKER_03]: No doubt about it, no doubt about it.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_03]: Something happened into my kids.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, no doubt about it.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_03]: It's not even a close fight.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_03]: I'd jump, I'd take 55 bullets any day of the week for my kids and for my family.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_03]: There's not even a number two that's even close.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_03]: So is something happening to my kids?
- 48:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_04]: Um, have you ever met a Jew before me?
- 48:57[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I have.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_03]: There are Jewish people and there are Jewish people in Georgia.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_04]: Really.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, there are interesting.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_03]: I did.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_03]: You know what's funny is, you know, it's funny about answer the second part of your question you never asked.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_03]: To me, like, I don't look at anybody and never look at somebody and go or they're Christian or they're a Jew or they're Muslim, I just don't, I don't even think about it to be honest.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_03]: So I only time I would know somebody was a Jew or anything else is if we get that conversation just came up, but I've never, I mean, honestly, I never never even thought about it that way.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_03]: I don't get to anybody that, like, looks at people down on what they believe in, like,
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: I've never been one of those people that believe in that.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's funny, Curing, you kind of set up the conversation.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Eric, but I've never met a Jew like you.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_03]: And obviously, I didn't even know you were Jewish still a couple weeks ago.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_04]: Get out of here.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, sirs.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_04]: Well, interesting.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's interesting.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_03]: Like all things came up.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_03]: Like it's probably been what a couple months ago, or you had that guy that was like hating on you about that.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_03]: I really never knew that.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_03]: But it didn't matter.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_03]: You and I were buddies and we were buddies no matter.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_03]: Well, you know what I mean?
- 50:04[SPEAKER_03]: Like it doesn't matter.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_03]: I could be this.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_03]: I could be some farmer in Georgia and you could be some
- 50:11[SPEAKER_00]: I will say there's dude like it's it's more of a thing up there where you are that it is down here when we are like seriously like it's not even conceptually thought about like are you Jewish or you you know whatever like it went in the south so different because culturally Christianity is like a cultural thing it's not necessarily like even a practice of belief it's just like what you do you know most of the south you know it's just kind of
- 50:35[SPEAKER_00]: So it's it's really interesting like that whole thing like with what that guy said I really was a reality for you, but I think that's probably more of a city thing than it is like probably because of all you move.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Jews here.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's significant in my experience.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_03]: Well, a matter of fact, my wife's sister married a Jewish guy from New York City.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_03]: Cool.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, cool.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_03]: His last name was cat.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_03]: His last name was cat.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's last name is cats.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, like the deadly.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_04]: A lot of vina, a lot of cats is here, a lot of cats is.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_04]: You got anything else?
- 51:06[SPEAKER_04]: I just want to know, one vacation spot that you haven't been, that you could go, where is it?
- 51:11[SPEAKER_03]: One of always wanted to go to, in my wife and I have always kind of circled as a spot, we want to go to Bora Bora.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_03]: I've always wanted to go to Bora Bora, I've always wanted to be on one of those little huts, light on the water with the lemon sharks.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_03]: I want to swim with the lemon sharks.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_03]: I've always wanted to do that.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_03]: So that's probably the place.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_03]: Um, if I had to get a second choice.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I'm sorry.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_03]: I'm cheating, but I want to get second-hand their choice.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_03]: I want to go Australia at some point.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_03]: I've always want to go Australia and New Zealand Australia and a third one is Italy.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_03]: Dead.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_03]: I want to go to Italy so bad.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_03]: And I'll probably next summer I will go.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_03]: We've been talking about doing it for a while and I want to go.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_03]: I want to see, I want to see Nevada again.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_03]: I want to go there really bad.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_00]: Current, that was your pre-mo place, right?
- 51:54[SPEAKER_00]: In that in the place you
- 51:57[SPEAKER_00]: So, so Bubba, again, big believer in kind of like input, right?
- 52:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like what you put in to your mind, to your life, whatever.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I know you've mentioned the Bible and certainly reading that, your faith, and I'm not precluding that.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_00]: But going back to your days of building your business and that kind of thing, like, who did you lean on?
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what did you look to?
- 52:18[SPEAKER_00]: What kind of content did you feed yourself in the business space to kind of keep that momentum, keep not ball rolling down the court?
- 52:27[SPEAKER_03]: I think the question that you're asking me and tell me if I'm wrong, I don't want to answer the question wrong.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_03]: Are you asking me how did I continue to develop and grow in the business?
- 52:38[SPEAKER_03]: Is that essentially what you're asking me?
- 52:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's like, what, who did you listen to?
- 52:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what kind of kind of, what did you eat?
- 52:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I told you, I think I told you this before, why I've always felt like a little math and you reminded me, you're my dad, a little math was me in a way.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_03]: And it's weird to say that, but that's where I've always felt.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_03]: So my dad was always very shrewd in how he handled everything.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_03]: Very, like, very on top of everything, very, I mean, he, but he tested me.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_03]: Man, and everything, I did anything we ever did in anything in business like,
- 53:09[SPEAKER_03]: He absolutely like, he made it so hard and so like, I feel like that test along the way made me just want to be better than him to be honest.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_03]: Like, it pushed me to say, you know what?
- 53:22[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I didn't know finance.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_03]: So, and I didn't go to school for finance, but I know finance better than most people in finance, because I wanted to learn it, so that I would do it better than him, and he would stop talking about it.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_03]: And I didn't know anything about accounting, but I went and learned accounting, because I needed to know if I was going to run a business, and then need to know it better than him.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't know anything about turf care.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_03]: So, what did I have to do?
- 53:44[SPEAKER_03]: I had to learn about turf care.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't know how to manage people.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_03]: So I had to get me like there was no one thing because I had to learn different layers, then no sales.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_03]: But I would go do it.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_03]: And a lot of things to I think is taking what other people are doing well and taking and making your own, sometimes the best flavor.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_03]: You know, taking what I saw other companies and go on while they're selling it doing that.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to take that idea and make it this new better idea or flip swap, take some magnetic companies doing really poorly, and let it be a passion project for your company to do it better.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_03]: And for us, it was like no one's taking care of their customers.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_03]: No one cares about their customers.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_03]: No one answers your phone when they call, no one cared about putting the best product on the field.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_03]: And for me, that became our war champ.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_03]: Nobody else is going to do it good.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_03]: Nobody has to do it right.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to do it better every single time.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_03]: And that was the war chant for us.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I certainly got to.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_04]: I've enjoyed getting to know you, Bubba.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, Eric.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_00]: I've got to...
- 54:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's like what?
- 54:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's funny, like, we're all the odd couple, but like, y'all are the real odd couple to me.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's not like I love it.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that y'all, like, you know, don't even connect it over this podcast itself.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_00]: So, before we wrap up today, Bubba, what do you remember about the podcast Genesis for you and like the thoughts of like, why you wanted to get this started?
- 55:01[SPEAKER_00]: Just so we all three have our input on how it began and why it's important to us.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it started by like Aaron said, like, in how we became friends, really it's we, you haven't met two people in Eric and I, that probably trusted somebody without really even meeting someone face to face more than we trusted each other pretty quickly.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_03]: Honestly, with money, with conversation, with business things, like I, we had this weird connection in the sense that like we just trusted each other.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_03]: From from the beginning, and still that way,
- 55:32[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and so for me, I think it started with that.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_03]: And then ham, I felt that same connection to you.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_03]: Just like this is a trustworthy guy.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_03]: This is a great individual.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_03]: This is a kind of guy.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_03]: You want to be around sharp person.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_03]: And so to me, it started with this conversation with Eric and I were talking all the time.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_03]: You and I have become good friends and it was like, look, we're all we already have in these conversations.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_03]: We're all trying to do the same thing in the car space.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_03]: What have we just came together and talked about it?
- 55:59[SPEAKER_03]: and then we're three people that have done business in three different ways.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_03]: Your story is totally different than mine, Matt.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_03]: Eric, your story is totally different.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_03]: We're all different.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we're on different stages of our life.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_03]: We all have children, though.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_03]: We have that in common.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_03]: We all are very motivated people.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_03]: We have that in common.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_03]: We're in carbs, that's in common.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_03]: And we all, the thing that then anybody that watches this show, hate us, love us, despises us,
- 56:28[SPEAKER_03]: that all want to get better at what we're doing, and that's what we try to take into carbs.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_03]: And the other three, the other thing about it is, and I don't want to tune our horn in this way because it sounds kind of arrogant, but I think we're genuinely good people, genuine, we're genuine people.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_03]: When you see us on the show, I've never had a conversation before with you Matt or Eric that I felt was fake, because I hate things people.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_03]: I do.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_03]: I hate them.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_03]: I hate fake people.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_03]: I don't have time for
- 56:55[SPEAKER_03]: And so to answer your question, be honest, that there's a lot of faith.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and there's a lot of fake people in the space.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's why we all gravitated towards each other, because there's a lot of fake people in this life.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_04]: And so you see, you see, right through, too.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_03]: But that's the genesis of the show.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we are guys that have come in this space, whether we want to admit it or not, we could be collectors more so than the other.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_03]: But it was an investment of some point.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to put money to work.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_03]: and want to make money and we want to do it better.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_03]: So we're all running our own businesses in this face.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_03]: Whether we want to call businesses or not, their businesses.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_03]: And we are all on unison doing that being real and we're motivated to see them do better.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_00]: good, good thoughts.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_00]: Well boys, as always, good, good time chat with you guys, but I appreciate you opening up and sharing a little bit more and I know we're only scratching the surface here, too.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_00]: There's always so much more, but I appreciate you guys making time, folks that are listening, like we said, you know, current you set it up front.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_00]: The intent here is for us to have fun doing something to kind of connect the dots.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, if you like it great, wonderful,
- 58:00[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the show's not changing, but these, these first three episodes are going to be about just that.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_04]: And then it's just background.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's just context.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 58:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's like you could pick up, you know, the office in the middle of season four and love it, but to appreciate the character of Michael Scott, you need to come back to season one and understand who he is.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, that's the best part of the whole premise.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_00]: But, but any final those closing thoughts on the, the bubble Wilson episode.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_03]: No, man, just, uh, it's just, uh, it's just, I love that we're doing
- 58:28[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it just kills that onion back with Eric last week and myself this week with you next week.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, and then from there, like you said, we're going to get them eat potatoes.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_03]: There's so much time to get them eat potatoes.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_03]: And we're going to get it.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_03]: I want to get into the meat potatoes more this year.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_03]: and I'm proclaiming this on the air because I think it's important.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_03]: I want to get in more of the numbers.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_03]: I want to show people the numbers.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_03]: I think people want to see the numbers.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_03]: They want to be able to see like, wow, it is a 4.2 percent.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it is.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, trends and numbers, that's interesting to most people.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_03]: And so in season two, if we have to, is anything that I think we talked about this, like, what do we want to do better?
- 59:05[SPEAKER_03]: One thing I want to do better and try to bring to the show is I want to try to bring more numbers this upcoming year.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_03]: But it's season two.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a numbers guy whenever I see numbers that are intriguing.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna try to bring them to you guys fair enough Well gentlemen, thank you.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you to our listeners appreciate you guys for tuning in to another episode of sports cards CEO We'll be back next week with a little hand bone on the hot seat looking forward to it.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_04]: There I fellas
