Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Richard Sherman Podcast.
- 0:07Speaker 2: And before we get to this Mike McDonald interview, I
- 0:10Speaker 2: want to talk about the Seahawks signing Terry on Arnold.
- 0:13Speaker 2: He worked out for them, as you saw on Hard Knocks.
- 0:15Speaker 2: He also worked out for the Texans, the Giants, and
- 0:18Speaker 2: the Saints over the past few weeks. But I think
- 0:22Speaker 2: the Seahawks are signing him just because, as always, they're
- 0:26Speaker 2: chasing edges. And if you see a former first round
- 0:29Speaker 2: pick who's played some good football, you know he's had
- 0:32Speaker 2: some up and down moments, but he's played some good
- 0:34Speaker 2: football for the Detroit Lions and a tough scheme where
- 0:37Speaker 2: they they kind of played him outside of.
- 0:41Speaker 1: His strengths is what I would say.
- 0:43Speaker 2: They played a lot of man coverage, and as I've
- 0:45Speaker 2: said before, it's such a it's such a lazy coordinator
- 0:52Speaker 2: coverage because all you're doing is saying, hey, coach, that's
- 0:56Speaker 2: on him, Hey, hey, hey, coach that he could cover
- 1:00Speaker 2: a guy. Not creating a plan to put guys in
- 1:04Speaker 2: good position, or to put pressure on a quarterback, or
- 1:06Speaker 2: to create a scheme where your players can make plays.
- 1:10Speaker 2: You're just saying, hey, this isn't on me. I told
- 1:13Speaker 2: them who they had and they didn't cover them. So
- 1:16Speaker 2: I think this is gonna be a good signing. I
- 1:17Speaker 2: think he's a player that could fit in this scheme
- 1:20Speaker 2: really well, that could thrive in this scheme.
- 1:22Speaker 1: He's a veteran player.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Obviously, they still feel good about skys for today's episode

- 3:17Speaker 2: And I think when Mike McDonald and John Snyder see
- 3:20Speaker 2: a guy on the market that they feel like can
- 3:23Speaker 2: help them, they take a shot. And I know there's
- 3:27Speaker 2: a lot of baggage and a lot of outside noise
- 3:30Speaker 2: and some legal issues that he has to navigate, but
- 3:34Speaker 2: clearly they've done their research, they've done their background, and
- 3:37Speaker 2: they feel really good about what.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Could possibly happen in the future.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I'm sure they've talked to the commissioner and in the
- 3:45Speaker 2: league about potential discipline. You know, will the NFL put
- 3:51Speaker 2: him on the commissioner's list. I'm not sure, but clearly
- 3:55Speaker 2: the Seahawks felt like hey, in other teams, I mean
- 3:58Speaker 2: the Saints, the Giants, the Texans all felt like felt
- 4:01Speaker 2: comfortable with the information that they had gathered, and they
- 4:06Speaker 2: signed him.
- 4:07Speaker 1: And I think he can help this team.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Not that they don't feel great about the guys they have,
- 4:11Speaker 2: but again, always chasing edges, always getting better. It's a
- 4:17Speaker 2: low risk, high reward kind of deal for the Seattle Seahawks.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I think they have a strong enough locker room to
- 4:25Speaker 2: manage something like this. I think they have enough veterans
- 4:29Speaker 2: and a great coach and a great culture that this
- 4:33Speaker 2: isn't something that would rock the boat at all in Seattle.
- 4:36Speaker 1: It's not like the New York media. Seattle media is
- 4:38Speaker 1: not the same.
- 4:39Speaker 2: They're not going to sit here and attack the coach
- 4:42Speaker 2: every every week asking them about Terry on Arnold and
- 4:46Speaker 2: the potential legal issues or the potential discipline from the league.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I think this is a situation, a perfect situation for
- 4:55Speaker 2: Terry on where you could play championship football on a
- 4:58Speaker 2: really great defense. Give him to give himself a great
- 5:01Speaker 2: chance to showcase his abilities and a potential payday and
- 5:07Speaker 2: and and kind of getting himself back on track in
- 5:09Speaker 2: the future. I think he would be likely the third
- 5:14Speaker 2: corner in this in this scheme, come in on nickel
- 5:17Speaker 2: downs as it's written right now. I mean, obviously they
- 5:20Speaker 2: don't just give away spots, so he'd have to go
- 5:23Speaker 2: in there and prove that he could he could play
- 5:25Speaker 2: to the level that that they would expect. But right now,
- 5:28Speaker 2: I think the starters are are Josh Job and Devin
- 5:31Speaker 2: Witherspoon obviously, and uh neilma Preache.
- 5:36Speaker 1: It is the guy.
- 5:37Speaker 2: That comes in as the third corner right now, I think, Uh.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I think they got a couple of guys that they're
- 5:44Speaker 2: trying to figure out who who's best in that spot,
- 5:47Speaker 2: and I think if he comes in and shows that
- 5:49Speaker 2: he can play to the level that he's capable of,
- 5:52Speaker 2: I think that spot is his.
- 5:54Speaker 1: To lose.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I talked to the Sea Aws a little bit about it,
- 6:00Speaker 2: just about you know, the kind of guy he is.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I had a relationship with Terry on the things I knew.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I think they talked to the lions. Obviously, they've talked
- 6:07Speaker 2: to as many people as they could talk to. He
- 6:12Speaker 2: does have some things uh on his plate throughout the
- 6:15Speaker 2: season that he's gonna have to navigate. He has a
- 6:17Speaker 2: court appearance on October fifth. As it stands right now,
- 6:22Speaker 2: he faces some very serious charges. But if if the
- 6:27Speaker 2: Seahawks are signing him, then obviously they feel really good
- 6:30Speaker 2: about where he is and in terms of the legal
- 6:35Speaker 2: battle and and what could what they could see in
- 6:37Speaker 2: the foreseeable future. And obviously he's a he's a player
- 6:42Speaker 2: with a with an immense level of talent, uh, And
- 6:45Speaker 2: I would expect him to see him on the field
- 6:47Speaker 2: and and to see them kind of kick the tires
- 6:51Speaker 2: on him early on in this preseason to make sure
- 6:55Speaker 2: obviously that he's he's in shape, he fits this scheme.
- 7:01Speaker 2: He can he can understand the scheme, see where his
- 7:04Speaker 2: football IQ is, et cetera, et cetera.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Uh.
- 7:07Speaker 2: But I'm excited. I'm excited to see it. I'm excited
- 7:10Speaker 2: you know that football is back, and I appreciate you
- 7:13Speaker 2: guys joining me. Stay tuned and stay here for this
- 7:17Speaker 2: Mike McDonald interview because it was a good welcome back
- 7:21Speaker 2: to the Richard Sherman Podcast. And today I have an
- 7:23Speaker 2: incredible guest head coach of the super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks,
- 7:27Speaker 2: one of the best coaches in the National Football League.
- 7:30Speaker 4: How do you feel, like, Yeah, it's going good. It's
- 7:32Speaker 4: going good. It's good to see you practice day, and
- 7:36Speaker 4: we had a good practice.
- 7:37Speaker 5: You know, it was who spirited competitive. It should start a.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Little bit better, but uh, part of the process, you know,
- 7:43Speaker 4: so back at it, we'll go.
- 7:45Speaker 2: So coming off the Super Bowl and we talked about
- 7:48Speaker 2: it on the field, you kind of you and the
- 7:50Speaker 2: team were kind of like, Hey, what's next, what's the
- 7:52Speaker 2: next game?
- 7:52Speaker 1: Yeah? What do we get after it? How is this offseason? Ben?
- 7:56Speaker 1: Has it been everything you dreamed it be?
- 7:59Speaker 4: I think yeah, Like like life comes at you fast
- 8:05Speaker 4: after the season, Like you finished the parade, all of
- 8:08Speaker 4: a sudden, you don't have you know, half your officer
- 8:10Speaker 4: staff is is taken off, so you've got to hire
- 8:13Speaker 4: a new staff, find roles for people. You know, that
- 8:15Speaker 4: process is not an enjoyable one, frankly. You know, it's
- 8:19Speaker 4: like people deserve to get you know, promotions and different
- 8:24Speaker 4: roles and things like that, and you can't please everybody.
- 8:26Speaker 4: And so that took a while and then you kind
- 8:29Speaker 4: of take a step away and get a breather. And
- 8:30Speaker 4: then you're starting to recalibrate. Okay, well where are we going?
- 8:33Speaker 4: You know, this is something that I haven't spent a
- 8:35Speaker 4: lot of time thinking about. You know that the season
- 8:37Speaker 4: kind of goes comes at you fast. And so really
- 8:40Speaker 4: the exercise of like understanding what we're proud of, what
- 8:45Speaker 4: we feel like, actually makes us us you know why
- 8:48Speaker 4: we come to work.
- 8:48Speaker 5: Every day like that.
- 8:49Speaker 4: That that's a that's a sobering exercise, you know. And
- 8:52Speaker 4: so I think once we've want to really targeted and
- 8:55Speaker 4: said Okay, this is this is how we won't really
- 8:56Speaker 4: want to attack it. Then then that like that exercise started,
- 9:00Speaker 4: you know, and then of off season comes back, guys
- 9:02Speaker 4: are back, and then off we go.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I was about to say, how much time did you
- 9:06Speaker 2: you actually spend off being Mike McDonald the husband and dad?
- 9:11Speaker 5: Well, it really the way it's been. We've had We've
- 9:16Speaker 5: had like a great time.
- 9:17Speaker 4: I mean, Jack said a great point in his life
- 9:19Speaker 4: where like he's he's been up and up and at
- 9:21Speaker 4: him really since the end since like the latter part
- 9:23Speaker 4: of this maybe like started kind of walk like he started,
- 9:27Speaker 4: he's been mobile at least the entire offseason. And so
- 9:31Speaker 4: and you're you know, so he's in that face, which
- 9:34Speaker 4: is exciting, and so we've been We've had a lot
- 9:37Speaker 4: of fun. And then really throughout this camp, this camp
- 9:39Speaker 4: is like longer than our normal camps because we started earlier,
- 9:44Speaker 4: but like the preseason game is like the same time,
- 9:47Speaker 4: so it was longer on the front end. So we've
- 9:49Speaker 4: tried to maximize like the amount of rest days. Like
- 9:52Speaker 4: like today we got after it, but like you know,
- 9:54Speaker 4: we're gonna go after tomorrow and then we give rest days.
- 9:55Speaker 4: So it's just had more time even throughout the training
- 9:58Speaker 4: camp process. We're not just like a hiberni mode. So
- 10:01Speaker 4: it's been a lot of fun and they come to
- 10:03Speaker 4: every practice. So it's been great.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Winning the Super Bowl usually, I mean it creates, you know,
- 10:09Speaker 2: its own set of issues for individuals, for teams in general,
- 10:13Speaker 2: and most of the time teams are fighting complacency. But
- 10:16Speaker 2: I've talked to I've talked to Ernest, I talked to Rashid,
- 10:20Speaker 2: I'll talk to Leonard.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Then nobody feels that.
- 10:22Speaker 2: And as a as a spectator myself watching practice and
- 10:26Speaker 2: talking to guys, you don't feel that at all from
- 10:29Speaker 2: this team.
- 10:29Speaker 1: And I talked to you about.
- 10:30Speaker 2: It on the field, and I'm like, what did you
- 10:31Speaker 2: do to get these guys to come back so hungry,
- 10:34Speaker 2: so so so ready to go?
- 10:36Speaker 4: And you said, I've had some time to think about
- 10:41Speaker 4: it since you asked me. I think I think it's
- 10:45Speaker 4: I think it's a great example of everyone being like
- 10:48Speaker 4: on like aligned in how we think and how we
- 10:50Speaker 4: go about things. And I think it's it's that's like
- 10:53Speaker 4: a testament to what we've created in terms of just
- 10:55Speaker 4: like what it's like in the building every day where
- 10:57Speaker 4: the expectation is is like, Hey, we're gonna have a
- 10:59Speaker 4: hell of a day.
- 11:00Speaker 5: You know, we're gonna get after it.
- 11:01Speaker 4: We're gonna get better, We're gonna sharpen each other, we're
- 11:04Speaker 4: gonna have each other's backs. We're in a shadow box,
- 11:06Speaker 4: you know, we're gonna we're in, but we're gonna have fun.
- 11:08Speaker 4: We're gonna be like, you know, the feeling when you
- 11:10Speaker 4: show up to Like, what's the feeling you want when
- 11:12Speaker 4: someone drives into the vMac excited to get better, Like
- 11:15Speaker 4: they can't wait to be with their boys. You know,
- 11:17Speaker 4: they want them to come back from break. You know,
- 11:19Speaker 4: that's what we're trying to create. And so the fact
- 11:21Speaker 4: that people are back at it and determined about you know,
- 11:24Speaker 4: trying to become a great team again. I think that
- 11:27Speaker 4: shows you that we we've gotten a lot of things
- 11:29Speaker 4: right up to this point. But part of that process
- 11:32Speaker 4: is like moving forward, you know.
- 11:33Speaker 5: And so if we are.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Going to be bought into how we do business, part
- 11:36Speaker 4: of how we do business is you know, like the
- 11:38Speaker 4: chasing asset, you know, edges aspect of always trying to
- 11:41Speaker 4: get to like, hey, what's the next man?
- 11:42Speaker 5: How do we involve this saying how do we take
- 11:44Speaker 5: our game at the next level? Like how far can
- 11:45Speaker 5: we take this thing?
- 11:46Speaker 4: And so I think that's what's provided, like the excitement
- 11:49Speaker 4: and like the sense of urgency to grow and get going.
- 11:52Speaker 1: You know what.
- 11:53Speaker 2: What is something I really admire and appreciate about you.
- 11:56Speaker 2: I think you've you know, and we talked about it.
- 11:58Speaker 2: On the field, you were like, you know, trying to
- 11:59Speaker 2: figure out who you were as a coach, and you're
- 12:01Speaker 2: taking things from these coaches to try to figure.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Out what works for you.
- 12:05Speaker 2: And and that's what great players, coaches, great individuals at
- 12:10Speaker 2: any sport. I mean, the will wasn't invented today, you know,
- 12:14Speaker 2: and so to be great at anything, there's somebody who
- 12:16Speaker 2: set the tone and set the example that you could
- 12:18Speaker 2: kind of figure out, Hey, if I could kind of
- 12:21Speaker 2: take a little bit of this and a little bit
- 12:22Speaker 2: of that, I can create a really cool thing. But
- 12:24Speaker 2: the human element, your your transparency being genuine and organic.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I think that's something your players have a ton of
- 12:32Speaker 2: respect for and something that allows your players to really
- 12:35Speaker 2: follow you and trust that your word is your bond.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Where does that come from?
- 12:40Speaker 4: I think not having played helps because it's like, who
- 12:43Speaker 4: am I? Who am I going to kid here? You know,
- 12:45Speaker 4: like I can't do what you guys do, and so
- 12:49Speaker 4: I think that's where it starts, and like and then
- 12:51Speaker 4: and then you're a young coach, so it's you're also
- 12:53Speaker 4: it's also an acknowledgement to say, hey, look I feel
- 12:56Speaker 4: very strong about some things.
- 12:58Speaker 5: There's a lot of things I also acknowledge.
- 12:59Speaker 4: I don't know yet, you know, because we haven't experienced
- 13:02Speaker 4: these things, and I don't have the I don't have
- 13:04Speaker 4: the kind of like the skins on the wall to
- 13:06Speaker 4: say like, look, I know what's going on here, I
- 13:08Speaker 4: know what it takes. It's like I believe, I think
- 13:11Speaker 4: I know what it takes, and I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 13:13Speaker 4: try to create like a compelling vision that we want
- 13:15Speaker 4: to create and a pathway and principles that we can
- 13:17Speaker 4: go by to like get there. But we also, you know,
- 13:21Speaker 4: if we really believe in this culture of like growth
- 13:24Speaker 4: and twelve is one, Well, I'm in this thing, and
- 13:30Speaker 4: our coaches are in this thing with our players. You know,
- 13:33Speaker 4: there's coaches in our league and the coaches in history
- 13:36Speaker 4: that and deservedly so that come in and say, hey,
- 13:39Speaker 4: look like this is how we're gonna do business. You know,
- 13:41Speaker 4: like here's your book. We're gonna go to page you know,
- 13:45Speaker 4: July whatever, August whatever, and this is what we do today,
- 13:48Speaker 4: and this is how we do business and this is
- 13:49Speaker 4: what's gonna win.
- 13:50Speaker 5: And it's worked like that.
- 13:51Speaker 4: But like if I did that, I would be not
- 13:53Speaker 4: I wouldn't be like authentic, right, So my thing is like.
- 13:56Speaker 5: Hey, look, I'm I'm learning with you guys in this journey.
- 14:00Speaker 5: And so.
- 14:02Speaker 4: It's more fun that way, you know, like and it's
- 14:04Speaker 4: like it takes the edge off. Hey, look, this is
- 14:05Speaker 4: we're going to give it everything we have because we
- 14:07Speaker 4: decided we're going to try to do it this way.
- 14:09Speaker 4: It didn't if we don't get the results we wanted. Well,
- 14:11Speaker 4: let's go back to see what we can improve on
- 14:13Speaker 4: process wise to yield better results. And you just kind
- 14:16Speaker 4: of just keep doing that. And that's an honest process,
- 14:19Speaker 4: you know. And but you got to keep it real
- 14:22Speaker 4: with them, you know, like you gotta if you we
- 14:24Speaker 4: fall short, which we've done plenty of times from the
- 14:26Speaker 4: coaching staff, or if there's things that we don't that
- 14:29Speaker 4: aren't up to the vision and the standard of how
- 14:32Speaker 4: we said we were going to be, and well we
- 14:34Speaker 4: got to be the first ones to show that we're
- 14:36Speaker 4: willing to grow from that, because that's what you expect
- 14:37Speaker 4: from your players anyways. That's that's how we think think
- 14:41Speaker 4: about I love it.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I love it, and I think your perspective and how
- 14:45Speaker 2: you think the game. I mean it may you may
- 14:48Speaker 2: feel like it's a disadvantage because you didn't play, but
- 14:50Speaker 2: I almost feel like it's an advantage. It's almost like
- 14:53Speaker 2: you don't know what you don't know. And sometimes as
- 14:56Speaker 2: a player, you get stuck in certain lanes and certain
- 14:59Speaker 2: ways of thinking because it's conditioned over years and years
- 15:02Speaker 2: of condition playing this game like it can only be
- 15:04Speaker 2: done this way. Yeah, but it seems like You've really
- 15:08Speaker 2: found a way to manipulate the way a player can
- 15:10Speaker 2: think in a way a player and just the NFL
- 15:13Speaker 2: in general thinks about a scheme and how offenses have
- 15:18Speaker 2: been running the same protections for years and no, not
- 15:20Speaker 2: many people have found out how to manipulate them in
- 15:22Speaker 2: the way you have. What like what went into that
- 15:26Speaker 2: line is thinking because people have been running five zero
- 15:29Speaker 2: and sliding left and sliding right and reading the mic
- 15:33Speaker 2: and playing two off the mic, et cetera, et cetera
- 15:35Speaker 2: for a long time, and nobody's really found the formula.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Like you have to really take advantage of that. Well.
- 15:40Speaker 4: John Harbaugh was someone that I really learned from, like
- 15:42Speaker 4: on how to think about these things, like we say
- 15:46Speaker 4: chasing edges. I mean, I feel like a brook record,
- 15:48Speaker 4: but we feel like it's our responsibility as coaches. We
- 15:51Speaker 4: take a lot of pride in like what can we
- 15:53Speaker 4: possibly what does everything in our power as coaches to
- 15:55Speaker 4: help our player get in a position where they can
- 15:57Speaker 4: have success and feel like they have the on that play.
- 16:01Speaker 4: And that's something that like John just kind of like
- 16:02Speaker 4: pounded into our heads from our coaching staff, And you
- 16:05Speaker 4: take a lot of pride in that you know again,
- 16:07Speaker 4: if you're a guy that can't play, but you're telling
- 16:09Speaker 4: me that I can do something to help you as
- 16:12Speaker 4: a player, do that, and I can't go like, hey,
- 16:15Speaker 4: look when I was at the Pro Bowl in two
- 16:16Speaker 4: thousand and three, this is what I did.
- 16:17Speaker 5: When I went again.
- 16:18Speaker 4: So and so I can't do that, you know, but
- 16:20Speaker 4: I can say, hey, look this is the evidence, this
- 16:22Speaker 4: is what I think, this is what this coach says,
- 16:24Speaker 4: this is what I've watched on technic is what here's
- 16:26Speaker 4: the parallels.
- 16:26Speaker 5: You can draw conclusions that way.
- 16:29Speaker 4: You know, when it comes to the pressures, you know,
- 16:31Speaker 4: the Ravens Playbook had you know, a really like diverse,
- 16:37Speaker 4: exhaustive pressure pressure package that you know, like it was
- 16:41Speaker 4: just so cool for me to like be a part
- 16:43Speaker 4: of that whole process. Like, man, like you're telling me,
- 16:45Speaker 4: I have access to the Ravens Playbook, you know, and
- 16:47Speaker 4: I showed up and there's all these sweet pressures and
- 16:50Speaker 4: like we had film that went back to like the
- 16:52Speaker 4: early Rex Ryan days and you can watch and see
- 16:54Speaker 4: you know, when he was and package them all together.
- 16:57Speaker 4: But then it was like, well, why why do all
- 16:58Speaker 4: these pressures exist?
- 17:00Speaker 1: Know?
- 17:00Speaker 5: What are they?
- 17:01Speaker 1: How are what?
- 17:02Speaker 4: What are they trying to do, and so you know,
- 17:05Speaker 4: why would you not want to dive in and understand
- 17:07Speaker 4: how to like the spirit of calls and what you're
- 17:10Speaker 4: trying to achieve and things like that.
- 17:11Speaker 5: So, yeah, it was a lot of fun, a lot
- 17:14Speaker 5: of fun. That was a fun process.
- 17:16Speaker 2: It's it seems like you're still having fun and you're
- 17:17Speaker 2: still like reinventing those pressures and really focusing them to
- 17:23Speaker 2: applying to your defense and your personnel. But how is
- 17:27Speaker 2: it having hard knocks in a building? I know, after
- 17:29Speaker 2: you want a super Bowl, the last thing you thought
- 17:30Speaker 2: you were going to be doing as a team was doing.
- 17:32Speaker 4: Hard That's probably accurate. Yeah, that's probably accurate. Yeah, that's right.
- 17:39Speaker 1: How has it been?
- 17:40Speaker 2: You know, I think your your first at least the
- 17:42Speaker 2: first clip they showed a Hugh saying, just yourselves. You know,
- 17:45Speaker 2: you can't be any characters or pretend. I think you
- 17:47Speaker 2: being yourself is the best version.
- 17:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:49Speaker 1: How has it been for a team?
- 17:51Speaker 2: Has have you felt like it's been a distraction or
- 17:53Speaker 2: has you have you felt like it's just been business?
- 17:57Speaker 4: I think it's been pretty seemless frankly, like I like,
- 18:03Speaker 4: I think you kind of go through like a I
- 18:06Speaker 4: don't know, like a like a phase of getting used
- 18:08Speaker 4: to like you get the news, okay, well my initial
- 18:10Speaker 4: reaction is what it used to be when I was
- 18:12Speaker 4: a younger coach of like well, shoot, now now I'm
- 18:15Speaker 4: gonna be exposed or now I'm gonna say something dumb
- 18:17Speaker 4: or I'm gonna look bad or whatever. And then you
- 18:19Speaker 4: start like talking to Dave, you start talking to John,
- 18:22Speaker 4: talking to other folks in the building, like people that
- 18:23Speaker 4: have had it, and like it's all about how you
- 18:26Speaker 4: frame and how you like that experience, what you want
- 18:28Speaker 4: out of that experience. And it's like, well, shoot, like
- 18:30Speaker 4: if they're going to be here and capture us, like
- 18:32Speaker 4: are we kind of proud of like what we do
- 18:33Speaker 4: and who we are? Like why don't we just focus
- 18:35Speaker 4: on being us and having them capture us? And maybe
- 18:38Speaker 4: there's an opportunity now for the best version of us
- 18:41Speaker 4: to get out there and and we're proud of that,
- 18:43Speaker 4: you know, and maybe that's a way to bring people together,
- 18:45Speaker 4: and there's an opportunity there to sell ourselves to possible
- 18:48Speaker 4: free you know. It's just there's so many like little
- 18:51Speaker 4: cool opportunities to to capture, you know, And so that
- 18:55Speaker 4: that's been our focus of like, okay, well, in order
- 18:57Speaker 4: for all those things happen, we just got to focus
- 18:59Speaker 4: on our process and who we are. Trust that they're
- 19:02Speaker 4: going to capture that. And I think so far we're
- 19:05Speaker 4: proud of of what's how's it or how it's gone down,
- 19:09Speaker 4: and we're still going through it, you know, like I'm
- 19:11Speaker 4: still miked up right now. It's just but I'm used
- 19:13Speaker 4: to it, you know, It's just you kind of get
- 19:14Speaker 4: used to all these having cameras around just becomes part
- 19:17Speaker 4: of your party, daily, a way life.
- 19:19Speaker 1: So I want to talk about this arrow and everything
- 19:22Speaker 1: our graphic.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, heck yeah, because like you already mentioned chasing
- 19:27Speaker 2: edges and what that means, the throom not around. I
- 19:30Speaker 2: think people can pretty much get the gust of that.
- 19:32Speaker 2: But I stound no one wants to play.
- 19:35Speaker 5: Yeah, very old school.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Line of things, and I think I understand it. You
- 19:38Speaker 2: know that they used to say take them to the
- 19:39Speaker 2: deep water. Nobody wants to go out there? Yes, what
- 19:42Speaker 2: does it mean to you?
- 19:44Speaker 5: Uh? It's it started from where we used.
- 19:48Speaker 4: To joke of like if people all of a sudden,
- 19:50Speaker 4: you know, had an illness, you know, all of a sudden,
- 19:53Speaker 4: they couldn't strap it up that week against our defense from.
- 19:56Speaker 5: Either here prior lives.
- 19:58Speaker 4: And you take pride to that, you know that you
- 20:00Speaker 4: put certain way on tape that people like dreaded playing.
- 20:03Speaker 4: And it's one of those things where it's like, well,
- 20:05Speaker 4: how do you how do you describe that?
- 20:06Speaker 1: Like is it?
- 20:07Speaker 4: Everyone says physical, everybody says fast, everybody says aggressive, you know,
- 20:10Speaker 4: and then like you're and then that there's a process
- 20:13Speaker 4: you interview maybe eight thousand coaches during when you first
- 20:16Speaker 4: get hired, and like everyone's saying like, well, our play
- 20:18Speaker 4: style is this, and our play style is at It's
- 20:20Speaker 4: like not only just a play style that just nobody
- 20:23Speaker 4: wants to play, you know, And so part of the
- 20:26Speaker 4: pro so I thought, like, man, it's cool in it,
- 20:27Speaker 4: like it in it, want to capture your attention to
- 20:30Speaker 4: I think it's very clear on what we're trying to create,
- 20:34Speaker 4: but it's also like a result, So what are the
- 20:38Speaker 4: things that we can do on a play to play basis?
- 20:42Speaker 5: And like a like an observation.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Biops like either it's a mental rep or a meeting
- 20:46Speaker 4: or a just any like it's a walkthrough, it's a
- 20:50Speaker 4: it's a game, you know, what's this cycle of things
- 20:53Speaker 4: that we can control that will ultimately end up creating
- 20:58Speaker 4: that style. And like that's made a big difference for
- 21:01Speaker 4: us to like tangibly be able to say, look, that's
- 21:04Speaker 4: decisive right there. That's that's shocking. The level of detail
- 21:08Speaker 4: that you put into that rep is shocking. That's our style.
- 21:12Speaker 4: And then or hey, Andrea, like the way that the
- 21:15Speaker 4: way that you nailed our nutrition menu and like handled
- 21:18Speaker 4: like how we hydrateed the eyes, that's shocking.
- 21:20Speaker 5: So like it spreads throughout the building. Oh, that's relentless.
- 21:23Speaker 1: You know.
- 21:23Speaker 5: Hey, we had a two and a half hour practice.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Today and we did an act at the end and
- 21:28Speaker 4: you guys locked in on you know whatever, that's relentless. Hey,
- 21:31Speaker 4: the way we chase the pile, that's relentless. So you
- 21:33Speaker 4: tally all these things up that are within our control
- 21:37Speaker 4: and then you get and then that's the style that
- 21:38Speaker 4: we ultimately think that we're gonna be able to create.
- 21:40Speaker 5: If that makes sense. That's where it came from.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I love that. I love that.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Ernest Jones said something that that really stuck with me,
- 21:49Speaker 2: and he talked about the relationship that you guys.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Have have and how it's grown.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Yeah, since he's been here a lot more freedom and
- 21:57Speaker 2: you know you kind of he kind of understand what
- 21:59Speaker 2: you're under stands what you're looking for. How do you
- 22:02Speaker 2: balance given the players that kind of freedom with keeping
- 22:06Speaker 2: the structure to make sure, you know, they don't go
- 22:08Speaker 2: too far away from what you build if not holes, Oh.
- 22:12Speaker 4: I think I think you have to go through that process,
- 22:14Speaker 4: you know, of there's sometimes where you have to trust
- 22:19Speaker 4: to put your players to go go do it, you know,
- 22:22Speaker 4: and they're the ones that have to make those decisions
- 22:25Speaker 4: like in real time. And and so again, I think
- 22:27Speaker 4: it's kind of goes to our conversation earlier, like you
- 22:29Speaker 4: have to realize when it's when you're kind of like
- 22:32Speaker 4: when my end isn't is jacked up to a certain extent,
- 22:35Speaker 4: or what we're asking him to do isn't necessarily realistic.
- 22:37Speaker 4: It sounds sweet, it looks gool on the board, but
- 22:39Speaker 4: to go out there and do it is another conversation.
- 22:42Speaker 4: So to have a guy like earn Us who's like
- 22:44Speaker 4: a great you know, you can kind of take the
- 22:46Speaker 4: temperature really quickly, you know, and and we kind of
- 22:48Speaker 4: feed off one another. Like there's sometimes where I feel
- 22:50Speaker 4: like I bring him back and refocus him. And then
- 22:53Speaker 4: sometimes the way he sees the game, like we needed
- 22:55Speaker 4: to kick it up or notch or maybe he's the
- 22:57Speaker 4: one that needs to calm it down.
- 22:58Speaker 5: Like he's got a great feel for what.
- 23:00Speaker 4: The team needs in terms of mentality, poise, those type
- 23:04Speaker 4: of things.
- 23:04Speaker 5: Let alone.
- 23:05Speaker 4: I mean, man, it's the entire middle of our defense.
- 23:08Speaker 4: Sometimes you know, you want to go crazy with calls
- 23:10Speaker 4: or you know, and and try to always be in
- 23:13Speaker 4: the right thing and then and sometimes there's a time
- 23:16Speaker 4: for that. Sometimes it's not, you know, and I think
- 23:18Speaker 4: I think EJ has a great feel for just like
- 23:22Speaker 4: what we can like do we need that or.
- 23:25Speaker 5: We can handle it on the field, you know.
- 23:27Speaker 4: And it's just like it's this constant conversation that goes
- 23:30Speaker 4: back and forth, kind of like a quarterback talking about
- 23:32Speaker 4: a coordinator or a quarterback coach.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Football is back and if you're getting ready for the season,
- 23:38Speaker 2: pull up to your local Lids.
- 23:40Speaker 1: The exclusive forty.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Seven NFL collection is available only in store at Lids.
- 23:46Speaker 2: And this gear is the gear you're gonna need if
- 23:49Speaker 2: you're going all in all season.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Richard, you like this, man? I love this.
- 23:53Speaker 3: The Detroit Lions forty seven hitch Head where I got
- 23:57Speaker 3: on and fangear that looks good game day, Monday morning
- 24:01Speaker 3: and every day in between.
- 24:03Speaker 2: And listen, I know a little something about being all
- 24:06Speaker 2: in the legion of Boom energy.
- 24:09Speaker 1: It was not casual.
- 24:10Speaker 2: We didn't walk on the field hoping people noticed us.
- 24:13Speaker 2: We set the tone, We brought the energy. We made
- 24:16Speaker 2: sure everybody knew exactly who they were dealing with.
- 24:20Speaker 3: That's how you should wrap your team, Richard confidence, No apologies,
- 24:25Speaker 3: whether you're hosting the crew, watching the family tailgating before
- 24:28Speaker 3: the game, or sitting across from somebody wearing the wrong colors,
- 24:32Speaker 3: get to your local lids and rep your squad the
- 24:36Speaker 3: right way.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Football isn't just a Sunday thing. It's a rivalry, it's tradition,
- 24:41Speaker 2: it's pride, it's.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Who you are all week long.
- 24:45Speaker 2: So don't wait until kick off to get ready, pull
- 24:48Speaker 2: up to lids and go all in all season only.
- 24:52Speaker 1: In store at Liz.
- 24:54Speaker 2: You guys seem to have the perfect balance on this
- 24:57Speaker 2: defensive veteran players at each level. You got Julian in
- 25:01Speaker 2: the back end, you got Ernest in the middle, you
- 25:03Speaker 2: got the big Cat in the middle of the D line,
- 25:05Speaker 2: but you also got.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Uh law and Jay Reid.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Doesn't make your job a little easier playing with guys
- 25:12Speaker 2: who just have had a lot.
- 25:13Speaker 4: Of Yeah for sure, heck yeah, heck yeah. And those
- 25:16Speaker 4: guys they settle, They settle a lot of things they
- 25:20Speaker 4: need to be settled. Like they handle their business. You know,
- 25:22Speaker 4: they know what they want it to look like. So
- 25:28Speaker 4: let them do that, you know, let them handle it
- 25:29Speaker 4: like empower those guys to go go make that stuff
- 25:31Speaker 4: come to life, they know.
- 25:32Speaker 2: But I think that's the hardest thing sometimes for coaches
- 25:35Speaker 2: to get some veteran players and then to try to
- 25:38Speaker 2: mold them to the vision you want. And then some
- 25:40Speaker 2: coaches are like, hey, to a degree, you know, hey,
- 25:43Speaker 2: I know you've played eleven years, Like this is how
- 25:46Speaker 2: I want it.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Let's find a middle ground.
- 25:47Speaker 4: Has that been Yeah, yeah, that happens all the time.
- 25:50Speaker 4: But I think, I think, I think, I mean, and
- 25:54Speaker 4: it's not just me like, hey, I'm gonna have all
- 25:55Speaker 4: the conversations. I mean, like eighty is a guy driving
- 25:58Speaker 4: the train on defense on a daily basis, and he's
- 26:01Speaker 4: got he's got his finger on the pulse of the
- 26:04Speaker 4: you know, and he's having a ton of those conversations
- 26:06Speaker 4: and our position coaches do a phenomenal job.
- 26:08Speaker 5: So I think it's like there's an alignment there.
- 26:10Speaker 4: But when you come at it with it's through the
- 26:12Speaker 4: spirit of like, hey, we're trying to we're trying to
- 26:14Speaker 4: solve this thing for the betterment of us and you.
- 26:18Speaker 4: And so that's like the spirit of how we have
- 26:20Speaker 4: these conversations, right, like, hey, you know I said that
- 26:23Speaker 4: we need to do X. It's like, well, yeah, I
- 26:25Speaker 4: mean there's principles there that like we're not going to
- 26:27Speaker 4: budge on, but how we get there there's some there's
- 26:30Speaker 4: some wiggle room, and you're working with a guy like
- 26:33Speaker 4: DeMarcus Lawrence, like I don't know, why would you why
- 26:36Speaker 4: would you change this guy's game? And it'd be crazy
- 26:38Speaker 4: to do that, you know, I think Leonard's game. We
- 26:42Speaker 4: saw that like, hey, there's another there's like more levels
- 26:45Speaker 4: to this thing. So those are the type of conversations
- 26:47Speaker 4: here with Leonard and he sees he felt the same way,
- 26:49Speaker 4: and so it's like, Okay, well, how do we get
- 26:51Speaker 4: there together?
- 26:51Speaker 2: You know.
- 26:52Speaker 5: So that's that's kind of what the process looks like.
- 26:55Speaker 2: I remember watching I mean it might have been the
- 26:56Speaker 2: first uh Niners game, and I saw a d law just.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Like he'd rush.
- 27:01Speaker 2: He'd noticed either they slid to him or they chipped
- 27:04Speaker 2: him in the back tried to get out, and he'd
- 27:06Speaker 2: like shove the back to eliminate the back of the
- 27:08Speaker 2: read and the progression and then end up helping blow
- 27:11Speaker 2: up the play.
- 27:11Speaker 1: It was like, this is just being a event.
- 27:14Speaker 5: It's law logic, So I call it it's logic.
- 27:17Speaker 1: I love that.
- 27:18Speaker 2: I love that this division has three of the top
- 27:21Speaker 2: five coaches in the National Football League. They can you
- 27:23Speaker 2: can argue with somebody else, how how much of a
- 27:26Speaker 2: challenge is that each and every week. And I know
- 27:30Speaker 2: it's never about them and it's always about you guys,
- 27:32Speaker 2: but to ignore the fact that three of the best
- 27:35Speaker 2: minds in football are in the same division.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Yeah, the experience has been really interesting being in our
- 27:42Speaker 4: division for two years. It's like the like the life
- 27:46Speaker 4: cycle of each game is like the like the speed
- 27:52Speaker 4: of like evolution is like significantly faster from my prior
- 27:57Speaker 4: experience and so like.
- 27:58Speaker 5: And Mike's gonna be like that in Zona two.
- 28:00Speaker 1: I mean.
- 28:02Speaker 4: The way that we played his his offense when we
- 28:05Speaker 4: were in Baltimore, when he was in New York, to
- 28:07Speaker 4: like when he called it for Sean at the end
- 28:09Speaker 4: of the twenty four season to what the Rams offense
- 28:12Speaker 4: evolved to last year, Like it's gonna be really fascinating
- 28:14Speaker 4: to see, you know, what their identity is going to
- 28:16Speaker 4: look like too.
- 28:17Speaker 5: But it's a true I think it's a truth.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Well, obviously the head coaches are driving the driving the bus,
- 28:22Speaker 4: but the coaching staffs, like, you know, I understand what
- 28:26Speaker 4: it takes. It takes a lot of people to get
- 28:27Speaker 4: this thing like in the same like working in the
- 28:30Speaker 4: same direction.
- 28:30Speaker 5: So it's a lot of fun. You got to be
- 28:33Speaker 5: on your p's and.
- 28:33Speaker 4: Q's going to a game, Like the way you start
- 28:35Speaker 4: a game is probably not how you're going to finish
- 28:37Speaker 4: the game.
- 28:38Speaker 5: You know.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Sometimes you know you're forcing into running things that you
- 28:41Speaker 4: might not have practiced that week, you know, because of
- 28:44Speaker 4: you know, everyone has this like understanding of how everybody's wired,
- 28:48Speaker 4: and you know, we're not going to change the way
- 28:49Speaker 4: we're wired that would that would make any sense, and
- 28:52Speaker 4: they shouldn't either, you know, but there's there's change ups
- 28:55Speaker 4: and you know, twists that you can do to you know,
- 28:57Speaker 4: to try to you know, take advantage of kind of
- 29:00Speaker 4: the latest and greatest of where their evolution is too.
- 29:02Speaker 4: So it's it's it's a massive challenge. It's fun to
- 29:05Speaker 4: be a part of. And yeah, I mean we had
- 29:08Speaker 4: nothing but respect for earlier by our division get some
- 29:11Speaker 4: great teams.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's funny because if you look at the
- 29:13Speaker 2: latest and the greatest from around the league, it's usually
- 29:16Speaker 2: some variation of what you guys are doing, you know,
- 29:20Speaker 2: it's what you're doing on defense or what McVeigh or
- 29:23Speaker 2: Shanna Ann is doing on offense, sprinkled in with a
- 29:25Speaker 2: couple of wrinkles from a couple other places. But it's
- 29:29Speaker 2: really really crazy how how much you guys have the league,
- 29:32Speaker 2: you know, and in the choke hold, but as you know,
- 29:35Speaker 2: it evolves and everybody's trying to beat whatever the top
- 29:38Speaker 2: scheme is. But it's really cool to see every Super
- 29:42Speaker 2: Bowl and championship team has like a real moment of
- 29:45Speaker 2: adversity that they feel like catapulted them to where they
- 29:48Speaker 2: wanted to be that season. What was that moment for
- 29:50Speaker 2: you last year?
- 29:53Speaker 5: I think.
- 29:56Speaker 4: The Lolling fruit ones is the first Rams game, but
- 29:58Speaker 4: I really think it's probably the Tampa.
- 30:00Speaker 5: Game because we we felt like.
- 30:05Speaker 4: We got to like we we we kind of we
- 30:09Speaker 4: said we're going to be a certain way and operate
- 30:11Speaker 4: a certain way. And when we got to that game
- 30:14Speaker 4: and had to I saw Baker at the golf term
- 30:16Speaker 4: this year in another respect by respected that as a
- 30:19Speaker 4: heck of a player and they let us up, you know,
- 30:22Speaker 4: and like we but it felt like we got off
- 30:27Speaker 4: our way of life for that game and how we
- 30:30Speaker 4: call the game, how we game planned it, how we practiced,
- 30:33Speaker 4: how we set the week up, like that's.
- 30:35Speaker 5: All my under my purview, you know. And so I
- 30:38Speaker 5: think I think that was like a hey, look, we
- 30:40Speaker 5: said we're going to be a certain way. We diverted.
- 30:43Speaker 5: Really when we diverted, it was me that diverted.
- 30:45Speaker 4: So like it's like I don't take this one on
- 30:46Speaker 4: the chin, and we're going to double down on what
- 30:48Speaker 4: we said we're going to be about, you know. And
- 30:51Speaker 4: I think everyone had that type of like thought process
- 30:54Speaker 4: on how we were going to move forward, you know,
- 30:57Speaker 4: and we could have easily said, you know what, like
- 31:00Speaker 4: we can't do that, or you know, we were missing
- 31:02Speaker 4: guy or whatever, but like there was no it wasn't
- 31:04Speaker 4: an excuse type of thing, and the offense could have
- 31:06Speaker 4: been like hey, look defense. You guys are tripping. You
- 31:07Speaker 4: got we need to stop at the end, you know,
- 31:09Speaker 4: they put up a tump.
- 31:10Speaker 5: Just it's like the.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Temperature of the team wasn't that we came together in
- 31:14Speaker 4: that moment, we decided to move forward together a certain
- 31:16Speaker 4: way and then to our you know, to everybody's credit,
- 31:19Speaker 4: we stuck to that process, you know, and trusted that
- 31:22Speaker 4: was the way we were going to do it. So, yeah,
- 31:25Speaker 4: that was that was cool.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it was really cool. And last last time, about
- 31:28Speaker 2: the same time last year, we were talking about the
- 31:31Speaker 2: expectations from the team. You know that the season was
- 31:35Speaker 2: really good, but you know it wasn't up to your standard.
- 31:39Speaker 2: And now you're coming back to Super Bowl champions the favorites,
- 31:42Speaker 2: I mean, depending on who you ask. You know, nowadays
- 31:44Speaker 2: you know and I know you love this more than anybody. Yeah,
- 31:47Speaker 2: you come from the hardball tree that loves to just
- 31:49Speaker 2: you know, you need something to chip on the shoulder,
- 31:51Speaker 2: to have uh and them talking about the Rams all
- 31:53Speaker 2: off season gives you perfect AMMO. But how has, if
- 31:57Speaker 2: anything has changed for you about your mindset or approach.
- 32:01Speaker 1: I mean, that's supple champion.
- 32:03Speaker 4: Well, I remember our conversation last year I said, I
- 32:05Speaker 4: think I said something on the line. It is like
- 32:06Speaker 4: ten wins is going isn't going to cut it or something.
- 32:09Speaker 4: And I think one thing we've learned is like that's
- 32:12Speaker 4: that's a result thing.
- 32:14Speaker 5: You know, we weren't the team that like that.
- 32:22Speaker 4: We didn't have a clear vision of who we really
- 32:24Speaker 4: were trying to be our first year. It wasn't clear enough,
- 32:27Speaker 4: and I didn't do a good enough job of getting
- 32:29Speaker 4: everybody aligned to become that team. We're doing the things,
- 32:32Speaker 4: like the mechanisms to build the team to become the
- 32:35Speaker 4: team that we wanted to become. You thought you knew,
- 32:37Speaker 4: but like first year, you don't know, you know, and
- 32:39Speaker 4: you realize that you screw them things up and do
- 32:42Speaker 4: things differently, and you try to learn from that year two.
- 32:44Speaker 5: And so.
- 32:46Speaker 4: I think to you, like, if I were to answer
- 32:49Speaker 4: that question now, like compared to like last year, we'd
- 32:52Speaker 4: been like, look, we need to focus on becoming the
- 32:55Speaker 4: best twenty twenty six version of see how it possibly
- 32:58Speaker 4: can't every day we go out there and then let's
- 33:01Speaker 4: go and then let's rip it from there and really
- 33:04Speaker 4: stick to that process because those are the things that
- 33:06Speaker 4: we can do every day, you know, like we can't
- 33:07Speaker 4: control how many games we're gonna win, you know, It's
- 33:10Speaker 4: just there's things that happen.
- 33:11Speaker 5: So that's really the focus. And it just makes it
- 33:14Speaker 5: so much simpler.
- 33:14Speaker 4: And I think for our players, like you probably feel
- 33:17Speaker 4: the same way, like and that's such like a clear
- 33:19Speaker 4: directive rather than hey, we have to go do X,
- 33:23Speaker 4: Y and Z.
- 33:23Speaker 5: What do you mean we have to?
- 33:24Speaker 4: Like, why can't I just go try to do my
- 33:26Speaker 4: job the best I can yourself? Yeah, And they I
- 33:31Speaker 4: don't know.
- 33:31Speaker 5: I just I can't.
- 33:32Speaker 4: It's just it's just so much It's makes so much
- 33:34Speaker 4: more sense now in terms of what you're asking for.
- 33:35Speaker 5: Your players on a day to day basis.
- 33:38Speaker 4: And if I was a player, I mean to me,
- 33:40Speaker 4: it's just that's that's how I want to That's that's
- 33:43Speaker 4: why I would prefer my coach to ask me, you know,
- 33:45Speaker 4: on how on what their expectations are, you know, and
- 33:47Speaker 4: then we fall short of that, hold me accountable and
- 33:50Speaker 4: let's move forward, you know.
- 33:51Speaker 1: So all right, I got to talk to you about
- 33:53Speaker 1: the dophin.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Hurtis is telling me that they're having quite
- 33:58Speaker 2: the time, and I think that probably was the expectations
- 34:01Speaker 2: with an offensive player of the year. But the loss
- 34:03Speaker 2: of Kenneth Walker was obviously a big topic of conversation.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Is offseason, but very impractically just looks fantastic every practice
- 34:12Speaker 2: I've been here. But Sam Darnold and his growth just
- 34:15Speaker 2: from the regular season through the playoffs, I mean I
- 34:18Speaker 2: thought playoffs he played magnificent football. You can correct me
- 34:21Speaker 2: if I'm wrong, because I'm looking at it from a fan,
- 34:23Speaker 2: not as a coach and analyzing his you know, playing
- 34:26Speaker 2: playout performance. But it looked like he just took another
- 34:30Speaker 2: step of growth and his command of the game and
- 34:33Speaker 2: his poise and in the moment and reading defenses and
- 34:36Speaker 2: his feel for the game. And to win fourteen games
- 34:39Speaker 2: twice in a row, I mean, it says something about
- 34:41Speaker 2: who you are as a player. But what have you
- 34:43Speaker 2: seen this offseason from him?
- 34:45Speaker 5: Man? I think he's had a tremendous offseason. I mean,
- 34:48Speaker 5: and he's having a heck of a camp.
- 34:51Speaker 4: I think with Sam you're looking at first of all,
- 34:54Speaker 4: this is like really the most continuity I think he's
- 34:56Speaker 4: had from in a two year span. I can't think
- 35:00Speaker 4: of the maybe since he was in New York, right,
- 35:02Speaker 4: you know, like even then, I think the different play
- 35:05Speaker 4: callers and different schemes and stuff. So I think that's
- 35:09Speaker 4: that's a great opportunity for him. You know, different you know,
- 35:11Speaker 4: different quarterback coach, different coordinator, but similar language, same guys
- 35:16Speaker 4: around him. You know that the supporting cast is dang,
- 35:18Speaker 4: you're the same at least you know, past catcher wise,
- 35:24Speaker 4: So I think that's playing a huge part of it.
- 35:27Speaker 4: But I think, like I think of Sam, I just
- 35:30Speaker 4: think of like a steady inputs, you know, of just
- 35:35Speaker 4: like the daily deposits that it takes to play quarterback
- 35:38Speaker 4: in our league and not be affected by all the
- 35:41Speaker 4: crap not crap, you know, like the noise and like
- 35:45Speaker 4: the opinion that meant all that stuff. It's like what
- 35:48Speaker 4: makes the league great because people care and like it's awesome,
- 35:51Speaker 4: you know, and it just makes it exciting.
- 35:53Speaker 5: But like that stuff, like it just it's just noise
- 35:55Speaker 5: to him. He doesn't.
- 35:56Speaker 4: He just focuses on what he needs to do and
- 35:58Speaker 4: what type of teammate, as you said, win fourteen games
- 36:01Speaker 4: in a row. Like there's a lot of really talented
- 36:03Speaker 4: quarterbacks out there, not a lot have done that at
- 36:06Speaker 4: two different spots. Well, that tells me the type of
- 36:08Speaker 4: teammate you are. Because those are two really good football teams.
- 36:11Speaker 4: You know, in order to do that, like you got
- 36:13Speaker 4: to bring people together, you know, and that starts at
- 36:15Speaker 4: the quarterback position. So that's what I think about with Sam.
- 36:18Speaker 5: You know, I'm really excited for him.
- 36:20Speaker 4: He's really he's earned this opportunity to have like this
- 36:22Speaker 4: much control and command over an offense. And you know,
- 36:28Speaker 4: it's just been a really fun process going.
- 36:31Speaker 5: To work with them every day.
- 36:32Speaker 4: You know, I just look forward to It's one of
- 36:33Speaker 4: those guys you like look forward to seeing, you know,
- 36:36Speaker 4: like I jack to see Sam at like the front
- 36:38Speaker 4: of the team, meeting every day, pop in the quarterback room,
- 36:40Speaker 4: see him kind of you know, it's really cool.
- 36:43Speaker 2: I love it. I love it, Coach. I appreciate all
- 36:45Speaker 2: the time you gave me today. It means a lot.
- 36:48Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to watching another great season. This team
- 36:51Speaker 2: has been fantastic. It's it's I appreciate you allow me
- 36:54Speaker 2: in the building and allow me to be around the team,
- 36:56Speaker 2: and I'll make sure to where by Seahawks happening.
- 36:58Speaker 5: Yeah heck yeah, man, we got plenty. We got plenty unlimited.
- 37:02Speaker 5: You get unlimited.
- 37:03Speaker 1: I appreciate it. Yeah, you got anything else?
- 37:06Speaker 4: You want to say no, But dude, like we just
- 37:08Speaker 4: you're welcome all at any time, any point here, opeing up,
- 37:12Speaker 4: hopefully get in the whole fame this year.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Brother.
- 37:15Speaker 5: Yeah, we're praying for you. Yeah you deserve it, you
- 37:18Speaker 5: deserve it.
- 37:19Speaker 4: But but yeah, bro, we got some young corners that
- 37:22Speaker 4: need some need some advice.
- 37:23Speaker 5: So look, as much as you want me to enter,
- 37:25Speaker 5: enter Richard Sherman, let's get it.
- 37:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna help. I'm going to go in that room
- 37:29Speaker 1: and and input what I love it.
- 37:31Speaker 5: Thanks brother, good to be with you.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Thanks
