- 1:15SPEAKER_1: I'm glad to have you, Pastor Moore, as well.
- 1:18SPEAKER_1: We're going to get into your candidacy for the Pike Township School Board as
- 1:24SPEAKER_1: an incumbent member of the school board.
- 1:26SPEAKER_1: Before we do that, let's go ahead and ask our president to go ahead and open us up in prayer.
- 1:32SPEAKER_2: Eternal God, our Father, we come before you once again as humble as we know how.
- 1:36SPEAKER_2: Lord, we thank you for this day.

- 2:15SPEAKER_1: Reverend Dr. Moore, how are you this evening?
- 2:18SPEAKER_3: Happy to be with you.
- 2:19SPEAKER_3: I want to thank you and Dr. Greene for allowing me to be with you tonight.
- 2:23SPEAKER_3: I'm just ecstatic to be here tonight and to be a part not only of this conversation,
- 2:28SPEAKER_3: but to also be a part of the Concerned Clergy as well.
- 2:31SPEAKER_1: Amen.
- 2:32SPEAKER_1: Well, on tonight's program,
- 2:34SPEAKER_1: we're going to talk primarily,
- 2:37SPEAKER_1: our conversation is going to be centered around education.
- 2:40SPEAKER_1: Pastor Moore, he's an incumbent member of the Pike Township School Board, been doing great work.
- 2:49SPEAKER_1: And he's asking for your vote again.
- 2:52SPEAKER_1: He's running again.
- 2:53SPEAKER_1: And one of the things I want to make sure that as we have our conversation
- 2:56SPEAKER_1: on tonight, we're going to talk about a lot of subjects that are important.
- 3:01SPEAKER_1: And whether you're in Pike Township,
- 3:02SPEAKER_1: whether you're in IPS,
- 3:03SPEAKER_1: whether you're in any other township in which there are school board members
- 3:07SPEAKER_1: or excuse me,
- 3:08SPEAKER_1: there are folks that are running candidates for school boards and
- 3:12SPEAKER_1: or there's referendums that are on the ballot for school boards.
- 3:15SPEAKER_1: You really need to pay attention.
- 3:17SPEAKER_1: A lot of that can really affect the education of our students as we move forward in
- 3:24SPEAKER_1: the very near future.
- 3:27SPEAKER_1: Pastor Moore,
- 3:28SPEAKER_1: I'm going to ask you if you would go ahead and introduce yourself and kind of,
- 3:31SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 3:32SPEAKER_1: what you're running,
- 3:34SPEAKER_1: you know, what's your platform and anything you want to share opening up.
- 3:37SPEAKER_1: Well, I'm an incumbent.
- 3:40SPEAKER_3: Just shortly, I will be closing out my first four years as a school board member.
- 3:49SPEAKER_3: I've had a great time.
- 3:49SPEAKER_3: It's been interesting.
- 3:50SPEAKER_3: It's been a learning process.
- 3:53SPEAKER_3: I'm seeking to To reenter again for a second term, I'm an incumbent.
- 4:03SPEAKER_3: I've been working with policy,
- 4:05SPEAKER_3: not only policy,
- 4:06SPEAKER_3: I've been interacting in the community, been moving around the community as much.
- 4:12SPEAKER_3: Right now,
- 4:13SPEAKER_3: we're in negotiations with trying to ratify or get a contract ratified right now
- 4:20SPEAKER_3: and happen to be on that particular committee.
- 4:23SPEAKER_3: And so we're doing some things to make it happen for our district.
- 4:28SPEAKER_3: As you know, education at this time is under a real government gavel at this particular time.
- 4:35SPEAKER_3: And it's real difficult to do a lot of things in education at this particular time.
- 4:42SPEAKER_3: And I do want to say that Pike Township is doing better than a lot of other townships.
- 4:48SPEAKER_3: And that comes from Some of the things that have taken place in the past
- 4:54SPEAKER_3: and we're able to sustain ourselves so far.
- 4:57SPEAKER_3: But we don't know what the General Assembly is going to do heading into the 2027th year.
- 5:04SPEAKER_3: But mostly all of our school districts throughout the state of Indiana is filling
- 5:10SPEAKER_3: the gathering of the General Assembly that has done a major,
- 5:16SPEAKER_3: major job on education in the last 20 years.
- 5:19SPEAKER_3: And I think the last two years have been extremely difficult for districts all
- 5:26SPEAKER_3: across the state of Indiana.
- 5:29SPEAKER_1: Pastor Greene,
- 5:30SPEAKER_1: there's roughly at least 38 referendums that are going to be on the ballot
- 5:36SPEAKER_1: for November.
- 5:37SPEAKER_1: Resources evidently are being stretched across the state of Indiana.
- 5:45SPEAKER_1: That's something that as we're looking at,
- 5:47SPEAKER_1: you know, who are we going to elect for those positions?
- 5:52SPEAKER_1: We need to,
- 5:53SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 5:53SPEAKER_1: really be thinking about who wants to put resources into our schools instead
- 5:59SPEAKER_1: of those that are wanting to take it out and move it elsewhere,
- 6:01SPEAKER_1: move those same resources elsewhere.
- 6:04SPEAKER_2: Well, clearly you want people.
- 6:06SPEAKER_2: It's going to be crucial to have people on the school board who want to engage
- 6:10SPEAKER_2: in this challenging process and these challenging times.
- 6:16SPEAKER_2: One of the things I know about Dr. Moore,
- 6:17SPEAKER_2: he was very instrumental in getting the referendum that Pike had a couple years ago
- 6:24SPEAKER_2: across the finish line.
- 6:25SPEAKER_2: He was out in the community talking about explaining it to community members,
- 6:29SPEAKER_2: what it's all about, what it's going to do.
- 6:32SPEAKER_2: And we're going to need people on the school board who can do those types of things
- 6:35SPEAKER_2: because given what the General Assembly has recently done, And,
- 6:40SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 6:40SPEAKER_2: we do have a record number,
- 6:42SPEAKER_2: 38 school districts across the state seeking referendums in November in this part
- 6:49SPEAKER_2: of this election.
- 6:51SPEAKER_2: We know that these other schools,
- 6:52SPEAKER_2: because of the cuts and the resources,
- 6:54SPEAKER_2: while you may have a little surplus money to get you by a little while,
- 6:59SPEAKER_2: everybody's going to be looking at this at this referendum again within
- 7:03SPEAKER_2: the next one, two years.
- 7:05SPEAKER_2: It's just economically is where you're going to be.
- 7:09SPEAKER_2: And if we want to continue to have quality education,
- 7:13SPEAKER_2: we want to continue to have our schools to be properly staffed and resourced,
- 7:18SPEAKER_2: you know, given this is following what, you know, ultimately the president wants.
- 7:23SPEAKER_2: If you want quality education, the president says you pay for it.
- 7:27SPEAKER_2: And that's what we are going to be doing as a community of citizens.
- 7:31SPEAKER_2: And you're going to want school board members that are there That understand it,
- 7:35SPEAKER_2: know when it's the right time to do it,
- 7:37SPEAKER_2: and will come to the community and explain it.
- 7:40SPEAKER_2: You know, that, yeah, it's not just one person's hand.
- 7:43SPEAKER_2: All of our school board members thoroughly understand it,
- 7:47SPEAKER_2: and within their realm of influence,
- 7:50SPEAKER_2: are out talking about it and sharing it with the community,
- 7:53SPEAKER_2: so we can get across the finish line.
- 7:55SPEAKER_2: Because I do believe when we get on the other side of this election,
- 7:59SPEAKER_2: all 38 of those referendums are not going to pass, Reverend Alexander.
- 8:03SPEAKER_2: And a lot of it's going to come down to,
- 8:05SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 8:06SPEAKER_2: who was speaking on behalf of it,
- 8:08SPEAKER_2: what information was getting shared,
- 8:10SPEAKER_2: because it merely can't just look like,
- 8:12SPEAKER_2: well, this is just another tax increase that doesn't get explained to people.
- 8:16SPEAKER_2: Because then people with high gas prices and high food prices will say,
- 8:21SPEAKER_2: I ain't signing up for that.
- 8:22SPEAKER_2: And we got to understand what all is going to be involved.
- 8:25SPEAKER_2: And that's going to be critical.
- 8:28SPEAKER_1: If you'd like to be part of the conversation, you can call in that phone number, 317-480-1310.
- 8:34SPEAKER_1: Once again, 317-480-1310.
- 8:37SPEAKER_1: We have current school board,
- 8:40SPEAKER_1: a member for Pike Township, and seeking another term, the Reverend Dr.
- 8:46SPEAKER_1: Pastor Wayne Moore, he's joining us.
- 8:48SPEAKER_1: Pastor Moore,
- 8:49SPEAKER_1: for those that are in Pike Township and they're voting,
- 8:52SPEAKER_1: why don't you help explain,
- 8:53SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 8:54SPEAKER_1: when they go to that ballot,
- 8:56SPEAKER_1: what's that ballot going to look like in regards to their options for school board?
- 9:00SPEAKER_3: Well, you have three seats that are available.
- 9:04SPEAKER_3: You have four candidates.
- 9:06SPEAKER_3: You can only allow yourself to vote for three.
- 9:09SPEAKER_3: And you have three incumbents.
- 9:11SPEAKER_3: And I think at this particular time,
- 9:16SPEAKER_3: I would encourage strongly that with the condition and the atmosphere of education,
- 9:23SPEAKER_3: that the incumbents would be the ones that you would consider.
- 9:28SPEAKER_3: I would say that because of the
- 9:37SPEAKER_3: climate and the crisis of education in all districts.
- 9:40SPEAKER_3: Dr. Greene is definitely right.
- 9:42SPEAKER_3: All 39 to 40 referendums are not going to be accepted.
- 9:47SPEAKER_3: We just might as well be clear about that.
- 9:50SPEAKER_3: And what needs to take place is when you look at Carmel,
- 9:54SPEAKER_3: Hamilton,
- 9:56SPEAKER_3: Zionsville,
- 9:57SPEAKER_3: when you look at the high-level districts that you never would have imagined
- 10:03SPEAKER_3: that would ever be signing up for major referendums, as you see, it is frightening.
- 10:10SPEAKER_3: It is frightening.
- 10:12SPEAKER_3: And already announcing cuts and cutting back staff, it is tremendously frightening.
- 10:22SPEAKER_3: But here's the most devastating thing that's going to have to take place.
- 10:29SPEAKER_3: I don't know if it's devastating, but it's going to have to have a shift.
- 10:32SPEAKER_3: School boards are going to have to have More of a collaborative
- 10:38SPEAKER_3: and creative thinking as it relates to working with bargaining.
- 10:43SPEAKER_3: And bargaining is going to have to have a different mindset of working with school boards.
- 10:48SPEAKER_3: This is no longer about us against them, them against us.
- 10:52SPEAKER_3: It's about survival for education now.
- 10:56SPEAKER_3: Because when you have municipality and state government attacking education
- 11:05SPEAKER_3: the way that they're attacking it,
- 11:07SPEAKER_3: Somebody is going to have to work together to fight for the education of children
- 11:12SPEAKER_3: as it relates to graduation rates and proficiency.
- 11:16SPEAKER_3: And we have to come together to make sure that that happens,
- 11:19SPEAKER_3: not only get them across the stage,
- 11:22SPEAKER_3: but get them get something in their heads as they walk across the stage and keep
- 11:27SPEAKER_3: as many teachers and services in place to get these children educated and make sure
- 11:33SPEAKER_3: that the teachers are paid.
- 11:35SPEAKER_3: And that all systems are working to protect the students as they come into those facilities.
- 11:42SPEAKER_1: You made a recommendation of the incumbents who are currently in that role
- 11:47SPEAKER_1: and you recommended that they continue.
- 11:50SPEAKER_1: You want to name who those other two are?
- 11:54SPEAKER_3: Terry Webster and Alonzo Anderson.
- 11:57SPEAKER_3: And I only do that because We have some work, and I want to say that and overextend that.
- 12:04SPEAKER_3: I only do that because we have some work we need to finish and move in
- 12:11SPEAKER_3: a different area to secure a stronger district at this particular point.
- 12:17SPEAKER_1: What do you see the biggest challenges coming up for Pike Township?
- 12:20SPEAKER_3: Well, I see the biggest challenge for us is to secure a stronger budget,
- 12:29SPEAKER_3: With the resources that we have to work with and to secure our staff and
- 12:34SPEAKER_3: to make sure that the security is there.
- 12:37SPEAKER_3: Every district,
- 12:38SPEAKER_3: whether you believe it or not,
- 12:39SPEAKER_3: except one or two districts,
- 12:41SPEAKER_3: maybe Franklin and maybe another one,
- 12:44SPEAKER_3: are able to hold on and increase as it relates to students.
- 12:48SPEAKER_3: Every district has lost students.
- 12:51SPEAKER_3: And when you lose students, you lose dollars.
- 12:55SPEAKER_3: And so...
- 12:57SPEAKER_3: Just came out about a week and a half ago.
- 12:59SPEAKER_3: We lost some students,
- 13:01SPEAKER_3: and when you lose students,
- 13:02SPEAKER_3: you lose dollars,
- 13:05SPEAKER_3: which is income to help educate those students,
- 13:07SPEAKER_3: to help pay students, I mean, to help pay teachers and to do things of that nature.
- 13:11SPEAKER_3: So when you lose 200 students,
- 13:14SPEAKER_3: you've got to find a way to continue to pay teachers and keep teachers in
- 13:18SPEAKER_3: the classrooms.
- 13:19SPEAKER_3: So a lot of people don't understand what's really going on,
- 13:23SPEAKER_3: and that's why school boards Need not to be important in the community,
- 13:28SPEAKER_3: but they need to communicate to the community.
- 13:31SPEAKER_3: And I don't seek to be an important school board member.
- 13:36SPEAKER_3: I want to be a community communicating school board member.
- 13:41SPEAKER_3: And because they need to know in our district,
- 13:46SPEAKER_3: the shape that our district is in as it relates to our children,
- 13:50SPEAKER_3: it has to take place.
- 13:51SPEAKER_3: That is the change and the shift that needs to take place in the community.
- 13:56SPEAKER_1: Pastor Greene,
- 13:56SPEAKER_1: a lot of that movement in students that Pastor Moore just mentioned,
- 14:02SPEAKER_1: a lot of that is due to charter schools and why are you having an influx?
- 14:08SPEAKER_1: Students,
- 14:08SPEAKER_1: they're kind of getting,
- 14:10SPEAKER_1: I'll say, scattered, if you will, in many different directions.
- 14:15SPEAKER_2: Oh, without a doubt, that contributes mightily to the predicament.
- 14:19SPEAKER_2: I think a lot of people don't see that when they...
- 14:24SPEAKER_2: Vote or cheerlead certain things because once this charter school picks up
- 14:29SPEAKER_2: a couple hundred students and,
- 14:31SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 14:33SPEAKER_2: that's a couple hundred students that this other township school
- 14:37SPEAKER_2: or IPS doesn't have.
- 14:39SPEAKER_2: And that means you don't get funding for that because the funding is tied per student.
- 14:44SPEAKER_2: And so then you got to make that up.
- 14:47SPEAKER_2: And if you didn't, for the most part, you don't always know this is coming.
- 14:50SPEAKER_2: You don't know that the number is going to be 200.
- 14:53SPEAKER_2: And then you find this out and you're in the school year, you got to make cuts.
- 14:58SPEAKER_2: You got to remember the diesel prices, the gas prices are all going up.
- 15:01SPEAKER_2: So that piece of the budget is not going down.
- 15:05SPEAKER_2: That piece of the budget is going up and rising.
- 15:08SPEAKER_2: So what do you do?
- 15:09SPEAKER_2: And so you put the superintendent,
- 15:14SPEAKER_2: the board in some challenging situations because some difficult decisions.
- 15:19SPEAKER_2: Have to get made.
- 15:21SPEAKER_2: And so it's critical that we don't downplay,
- 15:24SPEAKER_2: and in my opinion,
- 15:25SPEAKER_2: why it was so critical for IPS to maintain an electable democratic board as opposed
- 15:33SPEAKER_2: to an appointed board.
- 15:34SPEAKER_2: You need some people making this decision that are tied to the community,
- 15:38SPEAKER_2: who are going to be communicating with the community.
- 15:40SPEAKER_2: Because as we've seen, ultimately somebody's going to be asking the community for some money.
- 15:46SPEAKER_2: And it's a lot easier when you're communicating with them and explaining this.
- 15:50SPEAKER_2: These are all the reasons.
- 15:52SPEAKER_2: The stuff we're going through now are all the reasons why we will ultimately have a referendum.
- 15:58SPEAKER_2: If we down 200 students this year and we lose another 200 students
- 16:04SPEAKER_2: and you still want quality staff,
- 16:06SPEAKER_2: you want to take care of administration,
- 16:07SPEAKER_2: et cetera,
- 16:09SPEAKER_2: and children have resources and special needs children have resources,
- 16:14SPEAKER_2: you have to have money to do that.
- 16:16SPEAKER_2: Part of that is happening right now.
- 16:19SPEAKER_2: And I'm so glad that Dr. Moore shared it because it's important to share with the community.
- 16:24SPEAKER_2: So we say, oh, yeah.
- 16:25SPEAKER_2: And he told us this and he gives us an update next year.
- 16:29SPEAKER_2: Well, heck, if I'm four or five hundred students down, where's the money for that coming from?
- 16:36SPEAKER_3: Yeah.
- 16:36SPEAKER_3: And Dr. Greene, I think it's important that people need to understand.
- 16:40SPEAKER_3: That's why.
- 16:42SPEAKER_3: Past practices for school boards needs to change and learn how to communicate with
- 16:47SPEAKER_3: the community more about these particular situations is that,
- 16:52SPEAKER_3: you know,
- 16:52SPEAKER_3: when you talk about 200 or 300 students leaving or just students going
- 16:57SPEAKER_3: to charter schools,
- 16:58SPEAKER_3: the money follows and it can lead into thousands and millions and millions
- 17:03SPEAKER_3: of dollars.
- 17:04SPEAKER_3: And that is not coming from a fund that's coming out of the
- 17:12SPEAKER_3: The government's coffers, it's coming out of the district's coffers.
- 17:16SPEAKER_3: And what people need to understand in Pike Township,
- 17:20SPEAKER_3: before we get our student evaluation dollars,
- 17:27SPEAKER_3: if we have 75 students that came out of the township and went to charter schools,
- 17:34SPEAKER_3: they're going to first give the charter school dollars Before we get our dollars,
- 17:42SPEAKER_3: which is to me is so disrespectful to a township that has been educating students
- 17:47SPEAKER_3: for 132 years.
- 17:50SPEAKER_3: And so those are the kinds of things that needs to take place.
- 17:55SPEAKER_3: But that's why I say it's the danger of being important as a school board member is hurting us.
- 18:06SPEAKER_3: We cannot be so important that we fail to communicate with the community because
- 18:12SPEAKER_3: the community needs to know that charter schools are hurting us.
- 18:16SPEAKER_3: Hurting us how?
- 18:17SPEAKER_3: They're hurting us in the budget.
- 18:19SPEAKER_3: They're hurting us as it relates to our teachers.
- 18:22SPEAKER_3: And they're hurting us as it relates to our enrollment.
- 18:25SPEAKER_3: They're hurting us in every way, form and fashion as it relates to.
- 18:33SPEAKER_3: Let's just put it this way.
- 18:35SPEAKER_3: When we look at our township, we're supporting two districts.
- 18:41SPEAKER_3: We're supporting Pike Township District and the Charter District.
- 18:47SPEAKER_3: Exactly.
- 18:49SPEAKER_3: That's how you have to look at it.
- 18:50SPEAKER_3: And so when you look at it that way, you have to look at it.
- 18:55SPEAKER_3: So when we get money, they get their money before we get our money.
- 19:00SPEAKER_3: But it comes out of our dollars.
- 19:03SPEAKER_3: So we're supporting two districts.
- 19:05SPEAKER_3: Our two systems, let me say it this way, two systems of education.
- 19:11SPEAKER_1: I want to talk about,
- 19:12SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 19:13SPEAKER_1: because Pastor Greene mentioned it and you mentioned it again,
- 19:15SPEAKER_1: the importance of sharing with community members,
- 19:19SPEAKER_1: parents, families, you know, about what really the charter school movement is about.
- 19:25SPEAKER_1: If you'd like to be part of our conversation, call in 317-480-1310.
- 19:30SPEAKER_1: But Pastor Moore,
- 19:31SPEAKER_1: to that point,
- 19:32SPEAKER_1: in sharing with families,
- 19:36SPEAKER_1: there's another area right now,
- 19:39SPEAKER_1: and we just reported,
- 19:40SPEAKER_1: I don't know,
- 19:41SPEAKER_1: about 30 days ago,
- 19:42SPEAKER_1: that for vouchers in the state of Indiana,
- 19:46SPEAKER_1: there are more vouchers going to families that make over $100,000 now than
- 19:52SPEAKER_1: Than those that earn less than.
- 19:56SPEAKER_1: And think about that.
- 19:57SPEAKER_1: When this was a program that was instituted to help the less fortunate,
- 20:01SPEAKER_1: and now the ones that are receiving it are overwhelmingly going to some of
- 20:08SPEAKER_1: the higher earners instead of the ones it was intended for.
- 20:12SPEAKER_3: Well, you make a good point.
- 20:14SPEAKER_3: I think Dr. Greene and I met on the battlefield of education, public education.
- 20:23SPEAKER_3: I'm not afraid to talk about public education.
- 20:28SPEAKER_3: I'm running on public education and I'm a product of public education.
- 20:35SPEAKER_3: IPS has been around here for 173 years.
- 20:40SPEAKER_3: It has educated the total city of Indianapolis and Marion County for almost 200 years.
- 20:50SPEAKER_3: And all I'm saying in that particular situation,
- 20:53SPEAKER_3: when we look at this and we try to understand it,
- 20:58SPEAKER_3: there's no way that public education is bad in no uncertain terms.
- 21:02SPEAKER_3: It has its issues.
- 21:05SPEAKER_3: But the projection of charter schools,
- 21:10SPEAKER_3: the tenure of charter schools only has a 40-year tenure,
- 21:14SPEAKER_3: according to what I've been reading.
- 21:18SPEAKER_3: And when we look at it and we try to understand it,
- 21:22SPEAKER_3: I'm not saying that there are not some good charter schools.
- 21:25SPEAKER_3: There are some good charter schools,
- 21:28SPEAKER_3: but there are not enough charter schools to encompass and make an effect
- 21:34SPEAKER_3: on educating our children to the point to where we can get the proficiency rate and
- 21:39SPEAKER_3: the graduation rate that is needed to put children in places
- 21:45SPEAKER_3: to become great citizens.
- 21:46SPEAKER_3: And to be great educated people to help transform the world and become a better place.
- 21:54SPEAKER_3: What am I saying?
- 21:55SPEAKER_3: I'm basically saying that we need to be very careful and cautious
- 21:59SPEAKER_3: because we don't have enough success in the charter realm to say that we're all in.
- 22:05SPEAKER_3: And we need to be very careful about allowing people,
- 22:12SPEAKER_3: wolves in sheep's clothes,
- 22:14SPEAKER_3: To slip on these existing boards and begin to infect public education boards.
- 22:23SPEAKER_3: When that happens, then you have a lot of drama that will infect these boards.
- 22:29SPEAKER_3: And once these boards get infected,
- 22:33SPEAKER_3: it's hard to bring them back to the center of real education.
- 22:38SPEAKER_1: Well, let's be honest,
- 22:39SPEAKER_1: a lot of the issues,
- 22:40SPEAKER_1: a lot of problems that you're describing,
- 22:45SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 22:45SPEAKER_1: even including the board structure as we see it,
- 22:49SPEAKER_1: a lot of that is being caused by legislators.
- 22:52SPEAKER_1: Lawmakers are making these changes.
- 22:53SPEAKER_1: Lawmakers are even putting these boards in place to carry their water to do things.
- 22:57SPEAKER_1: What they want them to do, a lot of that is where it's coming from.
- 23:01SPEAKER_1: So not only do we need to look at our school board candidates,
- 23:05SPEAKER_1: but we need to look at those legislators that are making these laws
- 23:08SPEAKER_1: that are allowing the districts to suffer the way they have to.
- 23:12SPEAKER_1: We have to go to our first commercial break of the hour.
- 23:14SPEAKER_1: If you'd like to be part of the conversation, you can call in.
- 23:17SPEAKER_1: To the radio station, that phone number, 317-480-1310.
- 23:22SPEAKER_1: Once again, 317-480-1310.
- 23:24SPEAKER_1: We got a caller that is holding.
- 23:27SPEAKER_1: We'll catch our caller on the other side of the break.
- 23:30SPEAKER_1: Once again, feel free to call in.
- 23:31SPEAKER_1: If you'd like to be part of the conversation, you can do that.
- 23:35SPEAKER_1: We'll catch you on the other side of the break.
- 23:37SPEAKER_1: You're listening to the Concerned Clergy Radio Show.
- 23:40SPEAKER_1: Praise AM 1310, 95.1 FM, Indy's Inspiration Station.
- 23:51SPEAKER_1: We're talking education on tonight.
- 23:53SPEAKER_1: If you'd like to be part of the conversation, you can call in 317-480-1310.
- 23:59SPEAKER_1: Once again, 317-480-1310.
- 24:01SPEAKER_1: And we're joined by our guest,
- 24:04SPEAKER_1: incumbent school board member for Pike Township, Reverend Dr. Wayne Moore.
- 24:08SPEAKER_1: He's here on tonight.
- 24:09SPEAKER_1: He's sharing what he's been doing in Pike Township and what some of the needs are
- 24:13SPEAKER_1: and why you should vote for him coming up next.
- 24:17SPEAKER_1: Or, as in this election right now, make sure you vote for him if you're in Pike Township.
- 24:23SPEAKER_1: We do have a caller that is on the line.
- 24:25SPEAKER_1: Let's go ahead and bring in Joyce.
- 24:30SPEAKER_4: Hope y'all have a wonderful weekend and great rest of your week.
- 24:34SPEAKER_4: My question is, you know, how they have done something.
- 24:38SPEAKER_4: It started with an R, I'm quite sure.
- 24:40SPEAKER_4: But they've divided up Indiana and like...
- 24:46SPEAKER_4: Beech Grove, Fountain Square, and to dilute our vote.
- 24:50SPEAKER_4: And I would think that we should be able to vote because people who work
- 24:55SPEAKER_4: in other counties or live in other counties come in here.
- 24:58SPEAKER_4: How do that work for them?
- 24:59SPEAKER_4: I'm thinking they can vote like they want to.
- 25:02SPEAKER_4: Anyhow, I think we should,
- 25:05SPEAKER_4: based on our Social Security,
- 25:07SPEAKER_4: which they make you get before you talk,
- 25:12SPEAKER_4: and kids ain't a certain age,
- 25:14SPEAKER_4: but By now, it should have been figured out that they separating these parties.
- 25:20SPEAKER_4: You know the word.
- 25:22SPEAKER_4: It ain't regentrification,
- 25:24SPEAKER_4: but it starts with an R,
- 25:25SPEAKER_4: and it's something where they divided up,
- 25:28SPEAKER_4: where Indianapolis' black population is limited,
- 25:32SPEAKER_4: even though we all over York,
- 25:34SPEAKER_4: and you know, white, eight, all these locations, but that was to their benefit.
- 25:41SPEAKER_4: And even our mayor tried to speak on it today.
- 25:46SPEAKER_4: So I'm just like, why can't we just vote on our social for who we want to vote for?
- 25:53SPEAKER_4: That's one point.
- 25:54SPEAKER_4: And then, you know, there are so many nefarious crimes going on with our courts.
- 26:01SPEAKER_4: But all of them ain't bad.
- 26:02SPEAKER_4: I ain't grouping everybody.
- 26:04SPEAKER_4: I'm just saying they either need training or whatever.
- 26:09SPEAKER_4: I don't know.
- 26:10SPEAKER_4: Training would be appropriate, and we need to see who'd be in training.
- 26:14SPEAKER_4: You can't reintroduce somebody like that police officer that shot,
- 26:19SPEAKER_4: you know,
- 26:20SPEAKER_4: when one of them was shot by a real police officer,
- 26:24SPEAKER_4: and then he wanted to get out the next day.
- 26:26SPEAKER_4: For what?
- 26:26SPEAKER_4: To kill off his witnesses?
- 26:29SPEAKER_4: That don't make no sense.
- 26:32SPEAKER_4: There are laws prior to this administration.
- 26:37SPEAKER_1: All right.
- 26:37SPEAKER_1: Well, thank you so much for your phone call, Joyce.
- 26:39SPEAKER_1: Continue to call in.
- 26:41SPEAKER_1: Let me ask you this, Pastor Moore.
- 26:44SPEAKER_1: You know,
- 26:45SPEAKER_1: once again,
- 26:45SPEAKER_1: due to you're very engaged and active when it comes to the community
- 26:49SPEAKER_1: and sharing information, whether it's been that referendum or anything else.
- 26:54SPEAKER_1: What are you finding, at least as you're sharing with families and parents in Pike Township?
- 27:00SPEAKER_1: Do you?
- 27:01SPEAKER_1: You sense they really have an understanding of things such as charter schools,
- 27:05SPEAKER_1: what the referendum meant and some of the other dynamics within the district?
- 27:11SPEAKER_3: Some do and some don't.
- 27:20SPEAKER_3: It depends on who you talk to.
- 27:24SPEAKER_3: Most people are still trying to gain knowledge about the referendum.
- 27:32SPEAKER_3: I think we do put out some knowledge about the referendum
- 27:40SPEAKER_3: and we do hope in
- 27:44SPEAKER_3: the near future to put out more knowledge and more accurate knowledge about
- 27:52SPEAKER_3: the referendum.
- 27:54SPEAKER_3: I'm one and I'm only one that believes that If the taxpayers paid for
- 28:00SPEAKER_3: the referendum, the taxpayers ought to know about the referendum.
- 28:05SPEAKER_3: Because if you need another referendum, who's going to pay for the referendum?
- 28:09SPEAKER_3: It is the taxpayers.
- 28:12SPEAKER_3: I'm under the impression,
- 28:13SPEAKER_3: and always have been,
- 28:15SPEAKER_3: never take from people and never give them the information about what you took
- 28:19SPEAKER_3: from them,
- 28:20SPEAKER_3: or ask them to give, because you might have to go back and ask them again.
- 28:29SPEAKER_3: That's where I am with it.
- 28:31SPEAKER_3: And I'm hoping that we can be more clear as a township board in the future
- 28:36SPEAKER_3: about referendums and what we're doing in the future
- 28:42SPEAKER_3: solidify a much clearer line
- 28:46SPEAKER_3: of communication about referendums.
- 28:51SPEAKER_1: We have to go to our final break of the hour.
- 28:54SPEAKER_1: When we come back,
- 28:55SPEAKER_1: we're going to talk about another subject that is extremely important to
- 28:59SPEAKER_1: the education of everyone's child that happens to be in the school system right now.
- 29:06SPEAKER_1: We're going to talk about the impact of Turning Point USA,
- 29:10SPEAKER_1: how it's in our high schools, what that means.
- 29:13SPEAKER_1: And why you need to have an understanding of where these schools are located,
- 29:18SPEAKER_1: what they're doing, the impact they could potentially have and why it is.
- 29:23SPEAKER_1: You should even be asking your school board candidates, do you support?
- 29:29SPEAKER_1: Turning Point USA in our schools.
- 29:32SPEAKER_1: That should be a question as well as you're vetting these candidates.
- 29:36SPEAKER_1: Let's go ahead and go to our break.
- 29:37SPEAKER_1: If you'd like to be part of the conversation, call in.
- 29:39SPEAKER_1: That phone number is 317-480-1310, 317-480-1310.
- 29:45SPEAKER_1: You're listening to the Concerned Clergy Radio Show on Praise AM 1310,
- 29:48SPEAKER_1: 95.1 FM, Indy's Inspiration Station.
- 29:58SPEAKER_1: Welcome back to the Concerned Clergy Radio Show on tonight.
- 30:01SPEAKER_1: We're talking education.
- 30:03SPEAKER_1: We have a guest joining us tonight, running for Pike Township School Board.
- 30:07SPEAKER_1: He's an incumbent.
- 30:07SPEAKER_1: His name is the Reverend Dr. Wayne Moore.
- 30:10SPEAKER_1: He's been sharing what his platform is and some of the great work he's been doing
- 30:14SPEAKER_1: in Pike Township.
- 30:15SPEAKER_1: If you'd like to be part of the conversation, you can call into the radio station.
- 30:19SPEAKER_1: That number is 317-480-1310.
- 30:23SPEAKER_1: Before we get into our conversation regarding what Turning Point is doing
- 30:27SPEAKER_1: in our schools, we do have another caller that's on the line.
- 30:30SPEAKER_1: So let's go ahead and bring in this caller, Barbara.
- 30:36SPEAKER_1: Barbara, are you there?
- 30:39SPEAKER_5: Yes, I'm here.
- 30:40SPEAKER_5: Good evening.
- 30:40SPEAKER_1: Good evening, Barbara.
- 30:41SPEAKER_1: Go right ahead.
- 30:44SPEAKER_5: Yeah, I heard you talking about charter schools.
- 30:47SPEAKER_5: I just kind of came in just a few minutes ago,
- 30:49SPEAKER_5: and I just had this burning question every time I hear about these.
- 30:53SPEAKER_5: So as we know, maybe a few of them have failed, the charter schools.
- 30:58SPEAKER_5: Now, are they owners of these IPS buildings?
- 31:02SPEAKER_5: And if so, when they're no longer there, What happens to this property?
- 31:08SPEAKER_5: What happens to these buildings?
- 31:10SPEAKER_1: That's a loaded question.
- 31:13SPEAKER_1: Other than charter schools paying for a dollar, Mr.
- 31:16SPEAKER_1: President, Pastor, I'm going to let you go ahead and address that question as well.
- 31:23SPEAKER_2: Barbara,
- 31:24SPEAKER_2: you've raised a critical question and the reason why we need to follow through,
- 31:29SPEAKER_2: because some of those situations are this is how you gentrify a neighborhood.
- 31:34SPEAKER_2: If the school goes in there and they know that school's not going to make it,
- 31:37SPEAKER_2: and now somebody's got that property,
- 31:39SPEAKER_2: it becomes development property,
- 31:42SPEAKER_2: and the next thing you know,
- 31:43SPEAKER_2: the neighborhood has completely shifted,
- 31:46SPEAKER_2: that was all part of, quote unquote, a bigger plan.
- 31:49SPEAKER_1: And they only paid a dollar.
- 31:51SPEAKER_2: And they only pay the dollar to get the building.
- 31:53SPEAKER_2: And so that's why it's critical if you add it to where we are and not see this in
- 32:00SPEAKER_2: a silo with this IPEC in place, a appointed board.
- 32:07SPEAKER_2: And IPS,
- 32:09SPEAKER_2: the superintendent's already said,
- 32:11SPEAKER_2: she's got to get rid of buildings,
- 32:13SPEAKER_2: sell schools because they don't have near the same amount of students,
- 32:17SPEAKER_2: which makes all the sense in the world.
- 32:19SPEAKER_2: But IPEC is going to be controlling who those buildings are sold to and who's getting them.
- 32:26SPEAKER_2: So a charter school could get one for a dollar.
- 32:29SPEAKER_2: You could let a charter school go play with this for two or three years,
- 32:35SPEAKER_2: knowing that that charter school is not going to make it.
- 32:37SPEAKER_2: And somebody's going to swoop that up for the cheap.
- 32:41SPEAKER_2: And then you're going to see a community and a neighborhood change.
- 32:44SPEAKER_2: Rather than pay significant dollars that you could put back in IPS
- 32:49SPEAKER_2: that could be utilized across the IPS system,
- 32:54SPEAKER_2: that won't be necessarily how that works out because of the rule that
- 32:59SPEAKER_2: the legislators have in place around charter schools.
- 33:03SPEAKER_2: Now, are there people trying to modify that?
- 33:06SPEAKER_2: Yes, but it hasn't got modified yet.
- 33:09SPEAKER_2: And so there's going to be a lot of things in play.
- 33:12SPEAKER_2: A lot of things happen, have happened in the past, are happening now.
- 33:18SPEAKER_2: And, you know,
- 33:19SPEAKER_2: if you don't raise the critical questions like Barbara is raising,
- 33:24SPEAKER_2: then people just kind of forget.
- 33:25SPEAKER_2: They forget, okay, well, you know, what happened here?
- 33:28SPEAKER_2: You know, the environment in the building, then he didn't make it.
- 33:33SPEAKER_2: And now who owns that building now on 30th Street?
- 33:36SPEAKER_2: And what are they doing?
- 33:38SPEAKER_2: And so all of those are legitimate questions that often negatively impact,
- 33:45SPEAKER_2: quote unquote,
- 33:46SPEAKER_2: the black community because that money didn't come into our school systems
- 33:53SPEAKER_2: the best way it should have to help.
- 33:55SPEAKER_2: Because there's massive property owned by schools.
- 34:00SPEAKER_2: I mean, we're not talking about just the building.
- 34:01SPEAKER_2: We're talking about the football field or baseball field.
- 34:04SPEAKER_2: So it's massive.
- 34:06SPEAKER_2: And so if I wanted to build a data center, that's the kind of property you want.
- 34:12SPEAKER_2: It's massive and you could do it.
- 34:16SPEAKER_2: And if you could get it for a dollar or very cheap, you love it.
- 34:21SPEAKER_2: And so while we're often playing checkers,
- 34:24SPEAKER_2: Reverend Alexander,
- 34:26SPEAKER_2: Other people are playing chess, and so they're out five and 10 years.
- 34:32SPEAKER_2: So something we're looking at thinking, oh, well, you know, that needs a little work over there.
- 34:36SPEAKER_2: They're thinking about a whole new development of some sort,
- 34:41SPEAKER_2: and they're just working a plan to get there.
- 34:44SPEAKER_2: And it's a plan that allows them to get there because, you know, again, I'm with Dr. Moore.
- 34:52SPEAKER_2: I'm very much pro-public education.
- 34:54SPEAKER_2: But even ultimately with a charter school,
- 34:56SPEAKER_2: you have to get to a certain number of students to make that work.
- 35:01SPEAKER_2: To sustain.
- 35:02SPEAKER_2: Yeah, just this week,
- 35:04SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 35:05SPEAKER_2: the STEM school there on Michigan Road is in the news because it's short
- 35:09SPEAKER_2: of students.
- 35:11SPEAKER_2: Because,
- 35:11SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 35:12SPEAKER_2: everybody gives this plan,
- 35:13SPEAKER_2: well, I'm going to go from 100 to 200 to 300 to 400, and that stuff doesn't happen.
- 35:20SPEAKER_2: And so now how do you sustain your teachers?
- 35:23SPEAKER_2: How do you sustain the school when your model said,
- 35:27SPEAKER_2: oh, I'm going to be in three years, I'll be at 500.
- 35:30SPEAKER_2: But in year three, you're at 200.
- 35:32SPEAKER_2: And you're trying to maintain all these teachers that you hired.
- 35:38SPEAKER_2: And most of them don't have the resources to support special needs children,
- 35:43SPEAKER_2: which is unfair within itself.
- 35:45SPEAKER_2: So now you have a huge problem.
- 35:48SPEAKER_2: So what happens to these areas?
- 35:50SPEAKER_2: What happens to these properties?
- 35:52SPEAKER_2: It started out down one path and they don't achieve.
- 35:57SPEAKER_2: And they know sometimes the people know this ain't going to work.
- 36:00SPEAKER_2: I mean, they look and say, well, that plan sounds good in theory.
- 36:04SPEAKER_2: And don't get me wrong.
- 36:05SPEAKER_2: I believe most of the people who start the schools, hearts are in the right place.
- 36:11SPEAKER_2: I believe they want to educate our children.
- 36:14SPEAKER_2: The problem is in our culture where you don't have affordable housing
- 36:19SPEAKER_2: and all these other things,
- 36:21SPEAKER_2: this person,
- 36:22SPEAKER_2: this mom who's bringing her three kids to this charter school right now because
- 36:29SPEAKER_2: of rents,
- 36:29SPEAKER_2: et cetera,
- 36:31SPEAKER_2: may have to move outside of Marion County to the other end of Marion County.
- 36:36SPEAKER_2: They're no longer going to your charter school.
- 36:38SPEAKER_2: So when you're sitting here thinking, well,
- 36:40SPEAKER_2: I got them three schools and then Them three children and I'll have and I'll add
- 36:46SPEAKER_2: to them the next couple of years.
- 36:48SPEAKER_2: No, you added a few, but you lost just as many.
- 36:52SPEAKER_2: And that's why there's not progress in that area.
- 36:54SPEAKER_2: That's what makes it challenging.
- 36:56SPEAKER_2: That's why it leads you back to it would be far wiser to support
- 37:01SPEAKER_2: the public school system that has been educating children for hundreds of years.
- 37:08SPEAKER_1: Absolutely.
- 37:09SPEAKER_2: Play with that model versus this other model.
- 37:16SPEAKER_2: I believe they want to educate our children.
- 37:17SPEAKER_2: I believe they want to do the right things.
- 37:19SPEAKER_2: That ain't the issue.
- 37:20SPEAKER_2: But there's so many factors they don't control that's outside of education.
- 37:25SPEAKER_2: They don't control the parents' rent going up and being forced out.
- 37:30SPEAKER_2: They don't control rate increases on utilities,
- 37:34SPEAKER_2: et cetera, that forces somebody to have to move or even leave the state of Indiana.
- 37:39SPEAKER_2: They don't control that.
- 37:41SPEAKER_2: But they are impacted by it.
- 37:43SPEAKER_2: Because they're counting on this parent they recruited to be able to get their kids
- 37:49SPEAKER_2: to that charter school.
- 37:50SPEAKER_2: And they think they're going to have them for multiple years.
- 37:53SPEAKER_2: And you work hard, you get them, and you could lose them.
- 37:57SPEAKER_1: Well, let's be honest also, Mr. President.
- 38:00SPEAKER_1: And like John Davis has said, it's like Forest Manor School.
- 38:03SPEAKER_1: But let's be honest.
- 38:06SPEAKER_1: On one hand, it's well known that folks are having less children.
- 38:10SPEAKER_1: On the other hand, you can't say we're going to have more children for more schools.
- 38:14SPEAKER_1: The math ain't math.
- 38:16SPEAKER_1: And it's really that simple, y'all.
- 38:17SPEAKER_1: It ain't that hard.
- 38:19SPEAKER_1: But we got to transition because I want to make sure we get this in because we're
- 38:22SPEAKER_1: in election season.
- 38:23SPEAKER_1: We're talking about,
- 38:24SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 38:24SPEAKER_1: why you need to be vetting your candidates that are running for school board.
- 38:29SPEAKER_1: Even those legislators as they're, you know, talking about certain things I said earlier.
- 38:35SPEAKER_1: One of those questions you need to be asking your candidates, do you support Turning Point USA?
- 38:40SPEAKER_1: If you're with us on Facebook,
- 38:42SPEAKER_1: I'm going to show you a couple of graphics here in our remaining minutes
- 38:45SPEAKER_1: and ask Pastor Moore to comment on it.
- 38:47SPEAKER_1: But the first graphic I have here on Facebook,
- 38:50SPEAKER_1: it is a map of the Turning Point sponsor, what they call Club America.
- 38:57SPEAKER_1: Club America is the high school version of the college version of Turning Point USA.
- 39:04SPEAKER_1: So college is TPU or TPA.
- 39:09SPEAKER_1: And here it is for the high schools.
- 39:11SPEAKER_1: It's called Club America.
- 39:13SPEAKER_1: They've got a network over the last year in which they have hundreds of schools
- 39:19SPEAKER_1: that they've already put charters of Club America in the high schools.
- 39:25SPEAKER_1: They have a toolkit.
- 39:26SPEAKER_1: They tell them, here's how you do it.
- 39:28SPEAKER_1: They give them all the instructions.
- 39:31SPEAKER_1: They've got local regional people you can reach out to.
- 39:37SPEAKER_1: They give you everything you need so that you are able to get a young person,
- 39:45SPEAKER_1: get a teacher in a school,
- 39:47SPEAKER_1: and then you're able to start that charter, if you will, inside that high school.
- 39:53SPEAKER_1: Here's what I'm getting ready to do, Pastor Moore, and I'm asking you to comment on this.
- 39:56SPEAKER_1: So I've got the map is there on Facebook with us.
- 40:01SPEAKER_1: As we zoom into Indiana, Mr.
- 40:03SPEAKER_1: President,
- 40:05SPEAKER_1: what we see here is that there are just in the central Indiana area,
- 40:13SPEAKER_1: there are over 20 schools.
- 40:17SPEAKER_1: There's a number in there that says 19 that's right in that red circle.
- 40:22SPEAKER_1: As we open that up, you'll see where those schools are located.
- 40:27SPEAKER_1: You'll see that there's 11 on the north side of town.
- 40:30SPEAKER_1: There's six on the south side of town.
- 40:33SPEAKER_1: You'll see that's where they're located.
- 40:36SPEAKER_1: And then also what I can show you is I've made note of where those schools are.
- 40:46SPEAKER_1: We have several, once again, that are in Indiana.
- 40:49SPEAKER_1: We have a bunch that are wanting to start charters in other areas,
- 40:57SPEAKER_1: and we have to really be on the lookout for how those are affecting our areas.
- 41:06SPEAKER_3: Let me say, statewide, you have 65.
- 41:13SPEAKER_3: The data says you have 65.
- 41:16SPEAKER_3: You have what's hitting now.
- 41:18SPEAKER_3: You have one in Westfield.
- 41:20SPEAKER_3: You have Huntington North High School.
- 41:23SPEAKER_3: You have Cardinal Ritter.
- 41:27SPEAKER_3: I see you have the list here.
- 41:29SPEAKER_3: Is this the same list?
- 41:31SPEAKER_1: This is a list that I put together.
- 41:33SPEAKER_1: So I just kind of combed through it.
- 41:36SPEAKER_1: And I pulled up 17 of the schools.
- 41:39SPEAKER_1: But go ahead, Pastor.
- 41:41SPEAKER_3: Yeah.
- 41:42SPEAKER_3: But when we look at some of these schools,
- 41:45SPEAKER_3: Most of these schools are schools that are outside of Marion County except
- 41:50SPEAKER_3: for Brebeuf.
- 41:52SPEAKER_3: Ritter should be on this list.
- 41:56SPEAKER_3: Ritter High School should also be on this list.
- 42:00SPEAKER_3: Pike is not, the township is not on, Pike High School, North Central is not on that list yet.
- 42:06SPEAKER_3: Ben Davis, Lawrence North, Warren, Perry Meridian, I don't think they're on there yet.
- 42:12SPEAKER_3: Yeah, they are on there now.
- 42:15SPEAKER_3: Decatur is not on there yet, but it's moving.
- 42:19SPEAKER_3: Now, here's the thing that is happening.
- 42:23SPEAKER_3: School boards are not talking about this.
- 42:29SPEAKER_3: Because they have not looked, as Dr. Greene and I have done a show on the curriculum.
- 42:34SPEAKER_3: You remember that show, Dr. Greene?
- 42:37SPEAKER_2: Yes, sir.
- 42:39SPEAKER_3: The curriculum is very, very...
- 42:46SPEAKER_3: It is the alternative curriculum that they have is just not conducive for
- 42:57SPEAKER_3: the educational systems that we're used to.
- 42:59SPEAKER_1: Well, Pastor Moore, let me ask you this in this kind of personal question, if you will.
- 43:05SPEAKER_1: How does that make somebody like you feel,
- 43:07SPEAKER_1: knowing you're always struggling to get resources for your township?
- 43:12SPEAKER_1: But you look at something like this, you have such a well-organized community.
- 43:18SPEAKER_1: Somebody is funding all of the documents,
- 43:22SPEAKER_1: all of the training materials,
- 43:24SPEAKER_1: these people that they're using as these regional folks.
- 43:27SPEAKER_1: Somebody's paying for that.
- 43:29SPEAKER_1: And here it is.
- 43:30SPEAKER_3: Turning Point USA is paying for it.
- 43:34SPEAKER_3: You get in contact with Turning Point USA.
- 43:38SPEAKER_3: And let's just be frank about it.
- 43:41SPEAKER_3: It is a group that caters to young whites.
- 43:47SPEAKER_3: And it caters to young white individuals.
- 43:51SPEAKER_3: If you look at the schools that are on there,
- 43:55SPEAKER_3: you will find out if you look at the literature,
- 43:58SPEAKER_3: there is not a picture or photograph of any black and brown people
- 44:06SPEAKER_3: in turning points literature.
- 44:08SPEAKER_3: This is not literature for any ethnic group.
- 44:12SPEAKER_3: It is geared towards white
- 44:15SPEAKER_1: young people.
- 44:17SPEAKER_1: So you have Zionsville,
- 44:18SPEAKER_1: you have Perry Meridian,
- 44:19SPEAKER_1: Noblesville,
- 44:20SPEAKER_1: Mooresville,
- 44:21SPEAKER_1: Hamilton Southeastern,
- 44:23SPEAKER_1: Lutheran High School of Indianapolis, Franklin Central High School.
- 44:26SPEAKER_1: I mean, Fishers, Brownsburg is on the list, Brebeuf is on the list.
- 44:31SPEAKER_1: So, I mean, we have a lot of schools that can really make a serious impact.
- 44:38SPEAKER_3: Yeah.
- 44:41SPEAKER_3: And the curriculum is terribly poisonous and dangerous.
- 44:46SPEAKER_3: It's because the word indoctrinating and patriotism is the new word for racism.
- 44:59SPEAKER_3: And when you look at the
- 45:05SPEAKER_3: literature, it promotes that.
- 45:08SPEAKER_3: Dr. Greene and I did a show on that.
- 45:10SPEAKER_3: And we looked at all of that and shared it with the community.
- 45:14SPEAKER_3: And for some reason or another,
- 45:18SPEAKER_3: some people just don't want to deal with it because,
- 45:26SPEAKER_3: you know,
- 45:26SPEAKER_3: some people are really that look like me are culturally confused about this.
- 45:33SPEAKER_1: Well, everybody needs to know if your school board candidate supports this or not.
- 45:38SPEAKER_1: That should be a question.
- 45:39SPEAKER_1: We got a caller that's on the line.
- 45:40SPEAKER_3: It really has no business.
- 45:42SPEAKER_3: It has no business in an extracurricular.
- 45:45SPEAKER_3: Activity program in the school.
- 45:47SPEAKER_1: They found a way to do it.
- 45:49SPEAKER_1: They found a way to do it.
- 45:50SPEAKER_3: Well, Mike Braun, Mike Braun, the governor found a way to push it in school systems.
- 45:57SPEAKER_3: And when you saw him make his announcement, you didn't see any brown children there.
- 46:02SPEAKER_3: It was all white children.
- 46:15SPEAKER_3: Teenagers is promoting that and pushing it into higher education.
- 46:21SPEAKER_1: There is definitely a direct line.
- 46:25SPEAKER_1: Let's get our caller in because we're getting to the top of our hour.
- 46:29SPEAKER_1: Let's go ahead and bring in Imhotep.
- 46:31SPEAKER_6: Good morning.
- 46:31SPEAKER_6: Good morning, brother.
- 46:33SPEAKER_6: Good evening.
- 46:33SPEAKER_6: Thank you, gentlemen.
- 46:34SPEAKER_3: Good evening, Imhotep.
- 46:35SPEAKER_6: Dr. Moore, good seeing you again.
- 46:37SPEAKER_6: All right.
- 46:37SPEAKER_6: Yes, it is definitely great to see you last Saturday over at the Roland Martin's.
- 46:43SPEAKER_6: And didn't Roland have some real good strategies that seem like we don't want to use.
- 46:47SPEAKER_6: We really don't want to boycott.
- 46:48SPEAKER_6: Basically, we're saying boycott.
- 46:49SPEAKER_6: Boycott these corporations.
- 46:51SPEAKER_6: Boycott the companies that don't want to treat and do things fairly with people.
- 46:54SPEAKER_6: And I don't understand why we just won't do it.
- 46:56SPEAKER_6: But going to your turning point comment,
- 47:01SPEAKER_6: we've got to deconstruct education even from a epistemological point of view.
- 47:09SPEAKER_6: We've got to deconstruct the colonial education system that Even when we talk
- 47:14SPEAKER_6: about charter schools and,
- 47:16SPEAKER_6: let's say,
- 47:16SPEAKER_6: those black people who have altruistic motives to open the school,
- 47:23SPEAKER_6: what is the curriculum?
- 47:25SPEAKER_6: What are you using for the curriculum?
- 47:28SPEAKER_6: Do you have African-American instructors who love the children?
- 47:31SPEAKER_6: Are you using African-American-based literature,
- 47:35SPEAKER_6: Dr. Wayne Moore's books, any book, any of you guys got books?
- 47:41SPEAKER_6: Dr. King, Angela Davis, anybody.
- 47:44SPEAKER_6: What literature are you using?
- 47:46SPEAKER_6: Even the charter schools that may have African Americans involved
- 47:51SPEAKER_6: for what my research shows that I've studied and what I've been asking children,
- 47:54SPEAKER_6: they're not reading black poetry,
- 47:57SPEAKER_6: they haven't read Maya Angelou,
- 47:59SPEAKER_6: they're not reading Langston Hughes,
- 48:01SPEAKER_6: they're not reading Richard Wright,
- 48:03SPEAKER_6: they're not reading Gwendolyn Brooks,
- 48:06SPEAKER_6: they're not reading Malcolm X, they're not reading Alex Haley.
- 48:11SPEAKER_6: We have to deconstruct this whole system because even when you look at those of us
- 48:18SPEAKER_6: who may try to,
- 48:20SPEAKER_6: like I said,
- 48:20SPEAKER_6: have those altruistic motives and open up the charter school and may be wanting
- 48:25SPEAKER_6: to service our children that may not have the resources needed,
- 48:30SPEAKER_6: they still adopt the European Eurocentric colonial system.
- 48:34SPEAKER_6: As far as turning points concerned, it's an ethnostate that they want to create.
- 48:40SPEAKER_6: Trump spoke about it in Alaska the other day.
- 48:42SPEAKER_6: J.D.
- 48:42SPEAKER_6: Vance did too, saying it.
- 48:44SPEAKER_6: The Great Replacement Theory and things like that.
- 48:46SPEAKER_6: It's an ethnic state.
- 48:47SPEAKER_6: It's an ethnic state cloaked in Christianity and religion and white supremacists
- 48:53SPEAKER_6: and white supremacist doctrines.
- 48:55SPEAKER_6: So you guys at the forefront fighting it,
- 48:57SPEAKER_6: you are the torchlight and the bearers from a purely Christianity side
- 49:06SPEAKER_6: as black ministers,
- 49:08SPEAKER_6: but That was what Kenneth Copeland said some horrible stuff yesterday.
- 49:12SPEAKER_6: He basically threw it out there.
- 49:14SPEAKER_6: If you don't vote for Republicans,
- 49:17SPEAKER_6: Jesus is going to get you and Jesus is going to kill all you white people.
- 49:20SPEAKER_6: That's exactly what he said the other day.
- 49:22SPEAKER_6: So Turning Point is following that lesson.
- 49:24SPEAKER_6: And white people, they need help.
- 49:29SPEAKER_1: All right.
- 49:30SPEAKER_1: Well, thank you so much for your phone call, for listening.
- 49:33SPEAKER_1: And Pastor Moore,
- 49:34SPEAKER_1: I'm going to allow you if you want to respond to that and share with the last couple
- 49:39SPEAKER_1: of minutes anything you want to share.
- 49:40SPEAKER_3: Yeah.
- 49:43SPEAKER_3: The plethora of books he ran off are being taken out of libraries.
- 49:48SPEAKER_3: And so to start a charter school and have not those books in the libraries on
- 49:53SPEAKER_3: the shelves of your school is already a detriment.
- 49:59SPEAKER_3: And not have the right curriculum is already a detriment.
- 50:03SPEAKER_3: And so we're in trouble.
- 50:06SPEAKER_3: We're in trouble.
- 50:08SPEAKER_3: And
- 50:13SPEAKER_3: education has served us to the point to where it has become a threat to
- 50:19SPEAKER_3: the other culture now.
- 50:23SPEAKER_3: So many of us have gone on to do great things.
- 50:29SPEAKER_3: At one time,
- 50:29SPEAKER_3: education meant that when Dr.
- 50:31SPEAKER_3: Greene went to school,
- 50:32SPEAKER_3: he was supposed to go back to the neighborhood and get somebody else and push them
- 50:38SPEAKER_3: to go.
- 50:40SPEAKER_3: And then they would go and then come back to the neighborhood and push somebody else to go.
- 50:46SPEAKER_3: It doesn't happen that way anymore.
- 50:49SPEAKER_3: We go now and we get the importance of it now.
- 50:56SPEAKER_3: All right.
- 50:58SPEAKER_3: That's so important that we've forgotten that Big Mama told us that
- 51:04SPEAKER_3: when we get educated, it's up to us to help somebody else get it.
- 51:09SPEAKER_3: So we're losing that.
- 51:11SPEAKER_3: We've lost that.
- 51:12SPEAKER_3: We've got to regain that.
- 51:14SPEAKER_1: Well, thanks for all you're doing and how you're definitely making sure that we keep
- 51:18SPEAKER_1: that spirit going.
- 51:19SPEAKER_1: Mr. President, March to the Polls this weekend.
- 51:23SPEAKER_1: Satellite locations open.
- 51:25SPEAKER_1: You want to speak to that real quick?
- 51:27SPEAKER_2: Yeah, just make sure you've got a plan to vote.
- 51:29SPEAKER_2: There will be March to the polls at all of our townships.
- 51:33SPEAKER_2: They're at Pike.
- 51:33SPEAKER_2: They're leaving from Bethel AME at 1130, March into the Pike.
- 51:38SPEAKER_2: Library to vote.
- 51:40SPEAKER_2: Also, there is on Sunday some souls to the polls action taking place as well.
- 51:46SPEAKER_2: So the heat is on.
- 51:48SPEAKER_2: Let's go get out to vote.
- 51:49SPEAKER_2: I do encourage you to vote for Dr. Moore,
- 51:53SPEAKER_2: the three incumbents here in Pike Township for the school board because there's
- 51:57SPEAKER_2: so many critical things going on, Turning Point USA, Budgets and money, et cetera.
- 52:04SPEAKER_2: We don't need this season some people who are trying to figure it out.
- 52:09SPEAKER_2: We're going to need some people in place who already know what's going on and can
- 52:13SPEAKER_2: then do what's best for our children.
- 52:15SPEAKER_2: So we've got to support them because this is crucial, Reverend Alexander.
- 52:21SPEAKER_2: And I want to thank Dr. Moore for stepping up, being willing.
- 52:25SPEAKER_2: Because he could be doing something else altogether.
- 52:27SPEAKER_2: But his love and passion for our children is unprecedented.
- 52:32SPEAKER_2: And you can't really question it because you've seen it
- 52:35SPEAKER_2: the entire four years he's been on the school board.
- 52:38SPEAKER_1: Seen it in action.
- 52:39SPEAKER_1: Well, thanks for joining us again, Dr. Moore.
- 52:41SPEAKER_1: Thank all of you who have joined us either on the Facebook feed or as well calling in.
- 52:46SPEAKER_1: Whatever you do, wherever you're at, make sure that you vote.
- 52:51SPEAKER_1: Be blessed.
- 52:53SPEAKER_3: Thank you.
