- 0:08Speaker 1: The World's a vigal podcast Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered, presented
- 0:18Speaker 1: by Toyota dot Com.
- 0:22Speaker 3: I feel like this has been about as even as
- 0:23Speaker 3: it's been, with both sides enjoying positive days then that
- 0:28Speaker 3: I can remember the.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Twenty fourth pretty even.
- 0:30Speaker 4: They're both that.
- 0:31Speaker 1: It's like they're making each other better.
- 0:32Speaker 5: It's like when good players are both really good and
- 0:34Speaker 5: they go against each other.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Yeah, they make each other better.
- 0:36Speaker 6: What is that?
- 0:37Speaker 2: What is that called that?
- 0:38Speaker 1: Iron?
- 0:39Speaker 7: Chakras?
- 0:39Speaker 4: Iron?
- 0:40Speaker 1: That sums it up?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Thought of that?
- 0:42Speaker 4: You should have just let it that?
- 0:44Speaker 1: I actually, but brocos one interest me, Like, what is
- 0:47Speaker 1: that game?
- 0:48Speaker 8: Is that?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Are you excited about that?
- 0:50Speaker 1: I'm very excited.
- 0:51Speaker 4: I don't love the idea of building an offense for
- 0:56Speaker 4: Drake May, specifically out of little option routes from the slow.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Just got first downs Brandon's and Syracuse.
- 1:04Speaker 4: What's up, Brandon?
- 1:05Speaker 9: Not too much?
- 1:06Speaker 2: Okay, I'm sorry we caught you at a bad time.
- 1:11Speaker 1: If you're Elliott Wolf and you're shopping booty, what's your pitch?
- 1:14Speaker 3: Check out this Booty right, here's Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Presented by Toyota dot Com.
- 1:21Speaker 1: All Right, welcome the Patriot's Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:25Speaker 1: at j Lett Stadium and we just came off the
- 1:27Speaker 1: practice field. A hot day here at ja Lett Stadium. Uh,
- 1:31Speaker 1: that's getting ready for the second BTS concert. How was
- 1:34Speaker 1: last nighte Ford? Did they play all the hits?
- 1:36Speaker 2: Oh?
- 1:36Speaker 4: It was great. Yeah. I had the play sheet.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I saw you dressed up.
- 1:40Speaker 4: I was really young. I had my little white skirt
- 1:42Speaker 4: on and.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Really bulld choice.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Okay, what's your favorite BTS song? I have no idea.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I've never heard them before. I don't know from them.
- 1:51Speaker 4: You know, I got some bops, I got some bangers.
- 1:53Speaker 1: What's the one?
- 1:54Speaker 4: Dynamite my favorite one? But Butter is really good too.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Yeah, but.
- 2:00Speaker 4: What's tiny Skurts?
- 2:01Speaker 1: But over there it's the community, all right.
- 2:06Speaker 4: We're not here to talk pop. We're here to talk
- 2:08Speaker 4: about pop pop.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Douglas, I'm talking about number three. There you go. No,
- 2:13Speaker 1: he's been having a good little pickle catches today. Yeah,
- 2:16Speaker 1: a little found a little room today.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Camp.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I saw my guy Gay backus again on a one
- 2:21Speaker 1: on one with showing speed around the outside there it's aggressive. Yeah,
- 2:25Speaker 1: I like them. What are your guys initial thoughts. It's Evan,
- 2:28Speaker 1: it's Paul, it's Mike, it's me, it's Alex in the booth.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I'll jump in.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Well, we talked about it walking off the field, and
- 2:34Speaker 5: you might have heard it in the open of that.
- 2:37Speaker 5: We all feel that this is a competitive training camp
- 2:39Speaker 5: and it's kind of back and forth, and in recent
- 2:42Speaker 5: years it felt like we come off the field and
- 2:43Speaker 5: be like, that was offense, all offense today, or you know,
- 2:46Speaker 5: oh man, the defense shut it down today.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Now, the defense did have a good day to day.
- 2:49Speaker 1: They finished with three straight.
- 2:50Speaker 5: Interceptions, which was, you know, maybe the only time this
- 2:52Speaker 5: summer I felt like we came out and been like
- 2:54Speaker 5: that was like a put your fist down kind of
- 2:57Speaker 5: ending to the practice. But I think it's a good
- 2:59Speaker 5: sign that they're competitive the offense. They make some plays
- 3:02Speaker 5: there are in a lot of days where it was like, man, they.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Just didn't have it going. Now, Paul will tell you
- 3:06Speaker 1: Drake throw a pretty bad pick.
- 3:07Speaker 5: We could debate about why today, but otherwise it's it's
- 3:10Speaker 5: been a good back and forth, competitive camp, and I
- 3:13Speaker 5: think it's a sign of a good team with talent
- 3:14Speaker 5: on both sides of the ball.
- 3:16Speaker 4: I think it's been a boring camp because I honestly,
- 3:18Speaker 4: I don't think that much has happened because there's not
- 3:21Speaker 4: much drama. You know, there's not a lot of starting
- 3:24Speaker 4: jobs up for grabs. Gonzalez is practicing, so that whole
- 3:27Speaker 4: thing is kind of, you know, poured water on that
- 3:30Speaker 4: fire potentially. But I would say the last couple of days,
- 3:34Speaker 4: you know, not the walk through, but the last couple
- 3:37Speaker 4: of practices and pads, it's starting to drag a little bit,
- 3:40Speaker 4: and I think that guys are starting to get banged up.
- 3:43Speaker 4: It's hot. They've been playing against the same people in
- 3:46Speaker 4: the same Patriot on Patriot practices now for what six
- 3:51Speaker 4: days in pads and day eleven of camp overall today,
- 3:55Speaker 4: So I think everybody's really looking forward to the colts
- 3:58Speaker 4: coming here next week and having somebody else to go
- 4:02Speaker 4: up against anybody else, honestly.
- 4:05Speaker 1: So they'll have a practice tomorrow, but the weekend is
- 4:07Speaker 1: going to be a little light for them, so they'll
- 4:10Speaker 1: get a little chance to recover.
- 4:11Speaker 2: They'll get a rest over the weekend.
- 4:12Speaker 3: But I agree with Evan and you know, all of
- 4:14Speaker 3: the cliches that you throw out during the summer were
- 4:17Speaker 3: very I think evident today. You know, you get into
- 4:21Speaker 3: this period where you're a little bit, you know, starting
- 4:24Speaker 3: to drag. It was really humid today, I thought on
- 4:27Speaker 3: the field, I thought you could see visible signs of
- 4:30Speaker 3: guys dragging at times. Charles Woods left early after sort
- 4:34Speaker 3: of getting in a collision. Christian Barmore was really upset
- 4:38Speaker 3: for for something I'm not exactly sure. He fired his
- 4:41Speaker 3: helmet to the ground and went out down the back hill.
- 4:45Speaker 2: You know, he was angry. I'm not saying he was injured.
- 4:51Speaker 1: But you're angry because you got hurt.
- 4:53Speaker 4: It could be.
- 4:53Speaker 2: It could be also could.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Be angry because somebody got under his skin.
- 4:57Speaker 1: You could.
- 4:57Speaker 3: You could just see like it start to wear on
- 5:00Speaker 3: people today. And I do agree with Mike. I thought
- 5:03Speaker 3: the defense, maybe for the first time, sort of had
- 5:06Speaker 3: the better of that at the end of the practice.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Now, I think they've been back and forth a lot.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Today I thought was clearly a win for the defense,
- 5:13Speaker 3: and they put an exclamation point at the end.
- 5:15Speaker 2: With three straight picks.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I agree with the the bad throw, the quote unquote
- 5:20Speaker 3: bad throw that I said by Drake, I think may
- 5:22Speaker 3: very well have been a situational because he had just
- 5:24Speaker 3: thrown a pick and now they just put one more
- 5:26Speaker 3: play from about the twenty five or thirty yard line.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I think he had to throw one in the end.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Zone, yeah, but he didn't throw it anywhere near Hunter
- 5:32Speaker 3: Henry and Kevin Byard ended up virus dropping backlick in
- 5:36Speaker 3: his hands.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Like this is what I want to say.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Like the sort of the intensity that was still there
- 5:41Speaker 3: even though they were dragging, I thought was a positive sign.
- 5:43Speaker 2: And like they were whooping it up.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Yeah, Like Bayer took a towel and he's like slamming
- 5:48Speaker 3: it against the goalpost at the end, and you know
- 5:52Speaker 3: that's the g rated version of whatever he was doing
- 5:54Speaker 3: back there. They were getting louder and louder as the
- 5:58Speaker 3: day went on. In between some of those periods, there
- 6:00Speaker 3: was like a little red zone like individual drill like
- 6:04Speaker 3: one on one, two on two combination routes, and the
- 6:07Speaker 3: defense I thought, got the far better of that drill.
- 6:09Speaker 3: And they were really loud. That was right in front
- 6:12Speaker 3: of us on the hill, so you could hear the
- 6:13Speaker 3: defense reacting to play after play after play, and you're
- 6:17Speaker 3: right to Mario Douglas is the only one that really
- 6:19Speaker 3: was looked really strong in that drill offensively well.
- 6:22Speaker 1: The first play brown Aj caught one, but then the
- 6:26Speaker 1: second time Gonzo got the better of him and tipped
- 6:29Speaker 1: it a well.
- 6:30Speaker 3: The first play, he caught it on Byered in the
- 6:32Speaker 3: back of the end zone with one hand and he
- 6:35Speaker 3: wasn't in bounds, but it was an unbelievable catch.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I mean, did you see that catch? Could you guys
- 6:40Speaker 2: look at that?
- 6:40Speaker 4: It was a little bit of a babble, I thought, right, yeah,
- 6:43Speaker 4: and so I think maybe I don't know if he
- 6:45Speaker 4: got both feet and bounds with possession, but that.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Was one of those combination routes and ended up on
- 6:49Speaker 3: Byered coming across. Then there was one in the corner
- 6:51Speaker 3: that Gonzo just sort of jumped and knocked away. He
- 6:54Speaker 3: was like, and that was a tough throw by Drake too.
- 6:58Speaker 3: I thought he could have put it out to the
- 6:59Speaker 3: pilot on and he kind of put it back on
- 7:02Speaker 3: the outside shoulder and Gonzales knocked away.
- 7:04Speaker 5: But a lot of fun watching those two guys. I mean,
- 7:06Speaker 5: we'll talk about That's what I'm going to say. I mean,
- 7:08Speaker 5: not just I know we've talked about every show, but
- 7:10Speaker 5: it's hard to miss these two guys going against each
- 7:12Speaker 5: other best I mean best on best, good, good, not good.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Gonzalez talked about it afterwards.
- 7:18Speaker 5: You can just feel the competition and Gonzales, who isn't
- 7:21Speaker 5: really a talker, I mean, he seems like he's relishing
- 7:24Speaker 5: this matchup. He's enjoying each time. I mean, I thought
- 7:26Speaker 5: he carried the majority of the day in eleven on
- 7:28Speaker 5: eleven periods. But also that was interesting tying it back
- 7:31Speaker 5: to what del Petti said a couple days ago when
- 7:33Speaker 5: he said, you know, Bayard pulled the secondary together a
- 7:36Speaker 5: few days ago and said, you know, we got to
- 7:37Speaker 5: make more turnovers, we have to produce more. And you
- 7:39Speaker 5: know they did that day, and then today they came
- 7:41Speaker 5: out and finished that way and buyed leading the way.
- 7:43Speaker 5: So you know, just a little early sign of kind
- 7:45Speaker 5: of that leadership.
- 7:46Speaker 1: All good stuff, all good stuff. Brandon of North Carolina
- 7:50Speaker 1: agrees with you. He says, one thing that stands out
- 7:53Speaker 1: for me in this camp is the reporting on Gonzo
- 7:55Speaker 1: trash talking. Is this something that he has done in
- 7:57Speaker 1: past camps or is this new?
- 8:00Speaker 4: I I think he's got a little bit more in
- 8:03Speaker 4: him than people think.
- 8:04Speaker 1: But he's so quiet.
- 8:06Speaker 4: He's so quiet that you don't hear it. Yeah, but
- 8:10Speaker 4: I don't know. I I would not call the last
- 8:14Speaker 4: couple of days super competitive. I don't I think that this.
- 8:18Speaker 4: I think they're starting to drag a little bit. I do,
- 8:20Speaker 4: and I think that they we had to practice inside.
- 8:23Speaker 4: I thought that was a really good practice and we
- 8:25Speaker 4: were right on top of it, so you could really
- 8:27Speaker 4: feel the speed and the intensity. Talking to a lot
- 8:31Speaker 4: of the players after practice, it kind of feels like,
- 8:34Speaker 4: how many more moves can I throw at this guy? Like,
- 8:37Speaker 4: you know, we've we've been going at it for two
- 8:39Speaker 4: straight weeks. He knows my moves, like I don't really
- 8:43Speaker 4: know what else to do. You know, the defense knows
- 8:45Speaker 4: the plays that the offense is running because they keep
- 8:47Speaker 4: seeing it over and over again. And I think everybody,
- 8:51Speaker 4: like I said earlier, all the players keep just saying
- 8:54Speaker 4: Colts next week, joint practice next week, preseason game next week.
- 8:58Speaker 4: And I think that that's sort of at the point
- 9:00Speaker 4: that we're at with Camp. Is is like the Patriots
- 9:04Speaker 4: on Patriots stuff. Thing I think has kind of run
- 9:06Speaker 4: its course for everybody.
- 9:07Speaker 3: That's why when I said I feel like all those
- 9:10Speaker 3: Camp cliches they were evident today, Like they're kind of
- 9:13Speaker 3: tired of you know, it's the dog days of camp.
- 9:17Speaker 3: We want to hit somebody with a different shirt on,
- 9:19Speaker 3: you know, like all those things and you see them
- 9:21Speaker 3: like they're talking about at the end of practice.
- 9:23Speaker 2: It's it's been a drag, been a little bit of
- 9:25Speaker 2: a drag.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Okay, it's kind of But Gonzales did say that he
- 9:32Speaker 3: likes to talk trash to two receivers, and he says
- 9:35Speaker 3: it depends on the receiver. Some guys hate it when
- 9:37Speaker 3: you don't talk to them, and that gets under their skin.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Some guys, you know, you you know, maybe Brown is
- 9:43Speaker 3: one of those guys that he knows you want to
- 9:46Speaker 3: he wants to talk to. But he says it's good
- 9:47Speaker 3: for both of them. Number one corner going against the
- 9:50Speaker 3: number one receiver, and you sort of learn what it
- 9:53Speaker 3: takes to to sort of go against that level of competition.
- 9:56Speaker 5: And sometimes I feel like you overplay that, like going
- 9:58Speaker 5: into camp and you're like, oh, and you know, to
- 9:59Speaker 5: see Brown.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Sometimes it doesn't really ever seem to work out that way,
- 10:03Speaker 5: but like this is a camp where it really does
- 10:05Speaker 5: seem to work out, Like those two guys are going
- 10:06Speaker 5: against each other, constantly.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I think when you have a coach like Rabel, he's
- 10:11Speaker 1: gonna make sure that happens, Like why not, Why shouldn't
- 10:15Speaker 1: the good go on the good right?
- 10:16Speaker 5: You know?
- 10:16Speaker 4: Why avoid that?
- 10:17Speaker 2: During camp?
- 10:18Speaker 3: You get that I think where it gets overrated a
- 10:19Speaker 3: little bit. They'll say, like practice against them all year,
- 10:21Speaker 3: like he probably won't run that many roads against Gonzo
- 10:24Speaker 3: during the course the balance of the season, like he'll
- 10:27Speaker 3: be going against scout looks and Brown will be going
- 10:29Speaker 3: against scout.
- 10:30Speaker 4: They usually do second Wednesdays. They do a good on
- 10:32Speaker 4: good period on Wednesdays in the middle of the week,
- 10:35Speaker 4: just so that the speed you feel the speed of
- 10:38Speaker 4: what it's going to be like in the game.
- 10:40Speaker 2: But they.
- 10:42Speaker 4: It's I can't think of an example. It's super unique
- 10:46Speaker 4: that Brown's an X receiver that plays on the outside
- 10:50Speaker 4: and Gonzales is a boundary corner who plays on the outside.
- 10:53Speaker 4: So just by their positions alone, they're gonna be covering
- 10:56Speaker 4: each other or you know, running routes on one another.
- 11:00Speaker 4: When you play someplace else on the field, it might
- 11:03Speaker 4: not be every rep. This is literally every rep that
- 11:05Speaker 4: these two guys are on the field together. They're going
- 11:09Speaker 4: up against one one another, like if you play on
- 11:11Speaker 4: the defensive line, like you might be, you know, over
- 11:14Speaker 4: the left guard one play, and then you're over the center,
- 11:16Speaker 4: and then you're over the right guard, and right you're
- 11:18Speaker 4: moving around. Whereas this one is Brown trots out to
- 11:22Speaker 4: the one, you know, the short side of the field,
- 11:24Speaker 4: Gonzo tries trots out to the boundary, and it's just
- 11:27Speaker 4: one on one. So it's a pretty unique matchup for
- 11:30Speaker 4: that reason that I really can't think of another example
- 11:33Speaker 4: of the two who.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Will see more competition of that caliber in the season.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Gonzo with receivers or a j. Brown with cornerbacks.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Good question.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I mean, I think it's a pretty good match up
- 11:46Speaker 1: for both of them to start right out of the game.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I think the better receiver. I don't think there's a
- 11:50Speaker 1: lot of cornerbacks at that level. Well Gonzo and I
- 11:53Speaker 1: mean I know zones. Just I'm trying to think of.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Their schedule, like and that's one you know Seattle, Yeah,
- 12:00Speaker 3: you know Pittsburgh.
- 12:02Speaker 4: I mean Joey Porter Junior is a good year, He's Pittsburgh.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Brown will see a better player than Gonzo will Well
- 12:10Speaker 3: it's okay, yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 12:13Speaker 5: I mean I think it's back and forth, chackuars. They'll
- 12:15Speaker 5: see but they'll Bill see Travis Hunter.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Maybe you know who's bulked up? Yeah, I saw that,
- 12:21Speaker 2: which you know what I appreciated about that.
- 12:23Speaker 3: You know how we always see his like is he
- 12:24Speaker 3: put on way someone put that post of that and
- 12:27Speaker 3: they actually had one from last year and one from
- 12:29Speaker 3: this year.
- 12:30Speaker 2: You can see a difference.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Unless I've heard that a couple times about Drake and
- 12:33Speaker 5: I don't really I don't see it.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I see it a little bit in the legs, A
- 12:37Speaker 1: little bit in the legs.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Yep.
- 12:40Speaker 1: All right, eight five five past five hundred is the
- 12:42Speaker 1: Hotline podcast at Patriots dot Com. Is the email address.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I just want to remind everyone. Next week is joint
- 12:49Speaker 1: practice with the Colts. Uh So we'll be live during
- 12:53Speaker 1: practice on Tuesday, right yep. And then we've got our
- 12:56Speaker 1: first preseason game on Thursday. That's unbelieve goodness career.
- 13:00Speaker 10: We are.
- 13:02Speaker 3: The first pregame show the goodness a week from a
- 13:06Speaker 3: week from tonight. O give me tape to watch other
- 13:11Speaker 3: teams to go up again. So along those lines, SO
- 13:14Speaker 3: and Paul will definitely make this is will be good
- 13:16Speaker 3: for you.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Paul.
- 13:17Speaker 5: It's gonna be a good segment. What do you fascinated
- 13:20Speaker 5: about I'm fascinating. I'm a little bit more excited, uh,
- 13:23Speaker 5: which granted you've broken me of some of my preseason excitement,
- 13:26Speaker 5: but doing the backup quarterbacks have been playing pretty well,
- 13:32Speaker 5: you know. I mean, there were a couple of throws today.
- 13:33Speaker 5: I'm sure they'd like that back. But Baron Morton, whose
- 13:35Speaker 5: parents were here that was a nice story today, continues
- 13:38Speaker 5: to get reps and all these practices. I just think
- 13:40Speaker 5: in that within the structure of the preseason game watching
- 13:43Speaker 5: to Vito and Morton, I think there's gon be a
- 13:44Speaker 5: little bit more interest to me to see how they
- 13:47Speaker 5: transfer what they've done on the practice field out onto
- 13:49Speaker 5: the onto the game field. You know, last year, you
- 13:52Speaker 5: know what you had in Dobbs. He's a veteran, he's
- 13:53Speaker 5: been out there. But I just think it adds a
- 13:56Speaker 5: little bit more interest to me what you find, like
- 13:58Speaker 5: the quarterbacks are better.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I think that do you find that, Like, obviously Drake's
- 14:04Speaker 1: here and everybody else is below, But in terms of
- 14:08Speaker 1: the style of the quarterback, there's a thread that goes
- 14:11Speaker 1: through them, like there none of them are like so
- 14:14Speaker 1: different that when they're in you have to do things differently.
- 14:17Speaker 4: I would say Baron Morton is more of the traditional
- 14:19Speaker 4: Josh McDaniels pocket passer. Like I think he's pretty accurate,
- 14:23Speaker 4: gets the ball out quickly underneath to the first two levels.
- 14:27Speaker 4: When he tries to push the ball down the field,
- 14:29Speaker 4: I think it hangs on him a little bit. But
- 14:31Speaker 4: I would say he's more that traditional McDaniels. The Vito
- 14:34Speaker 4: moves around a little bit. None of them are athletic
- 14:37Speaker 4: but Drake, but yeah, maybe a little bit. But I
- 14:40Speaker 4: think the Vito's had a pretty strong weak Yeah I
- 14:43Speaker 4: don't want maybe off platform, Yeah yeah, maybe not as
- 14:46Speaker 4: much today, but yesterday in the bubble practice, I thought
- 14:50Speaker 4: that he threw the ball really really well. You had
- 14:52Speaker 4: to throw a booty today that was right through two
- 14:55Speaker 4: zone defenders, threw it right in there. So I mean,
- 14:58Speaker 4: compared to Dobbs and Ben woo Age last summer, this
- 15:01Speaker 4: is definitely an improvement in terms of their data.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I agree with that overall.
- 15:04Speaker 3: I think those two guys are better than the guys
- 15:06Speaker 3: that they replaced, and I'm just more encouraged by that.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Like I don't need to see like, like I always
- 15:13Speaker 3: tell you, I don't necessarily see because it's a game like,
- 15:17Speaker 3: it doesn't mean more to me in a game.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I think it's harder in practice. Yeah, I really do.
- 15:21Speaker 3: I think it's I think it's more of a test
- 15:23Speaker 3: in practice. I will look at the the joint practice
- 15:28Speaker 3: and I'd be curious to see how many reps if
- 15:30Speaker 3: any Morton gets in that scenario where it's a little
- 15:33Speaker 3: bit more valuable. But yeah, I think those both of
- 15:36Speaker 3: those guys I think have put a nice They've accounted
- 15:40Speaker 3: for themselves.
- 15:40Speaker 10: Well.
- 15:41Speaker 2: I think they both played well.
- 15:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean Ifido played well against the Patriots last
- 15:44Speaker 5: year the preseason. But this is the first chance we're
- 15:46Speaker 5: getting to really see him practice, you know. I mean
- 15:48Speaker 5: you see him during the year he was here, but
- 15:50Speaker 5: I mean I barely ever see him do anything. But
- 15:53Speaker 5: I just I'm impressed with the velocity he generates on
- 15:55Speaker 5: his throat. He just seems to back's arm now he does.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Sure, he sure does drive throws. I would deep balls,
- 16:03Speaker 4: I think both those guys, Yeah, that's a good way.
- 16:07Speaker 4: Kyle Williams. If we can get Kyle Williams a catchable
- 16:11Speaker 4: deep ball, that would be great. Guys, that booty, the.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Booty, why do you think Drake didn't throw that deep
- 16:16Speaker 2: ball to him today.
- 16:17Speaker 4: I don't know that he had. He I thought he had.
- 16:20Speaker 4: I thought he had two guys open on that play
- 16:21Speaker 4: down the field, and we being and Taylor looked at
- 16:24Speaker 4: each other and we're like, why what did he just do? Uh?
- 16:31Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 16:32Speaker 4: I thought he had on the sideline on like a
- 16:35Speaker 4: deep out that I thought was open. And then he
- 16:37Speaker 4: also had you know, the safety jump Chisholm, and he
- 16:40Speaker 4: had Williams one on one down the field if he
- 16:42Speaker 4: wanted to give him a chance to and didn't throw it.
- 16:45Speaker 4: So I'm not saying that Kyle Williams is like, you know,
- 16:48Speaker 4: secretly Randy Moss or something like that, but he hasn't
- 16:51Speaker 4: really had a lot of help from the quarterbacks. I mean,
- 16:54Speaker 4: he's been under thrown a couple of times, you know,
- 16:56Speaker 4: balls that he's got to go high point, which really
- 16:58Speaker 4: isn't his game. So hopefully we get Kyle Williams some
- 17:01Speaker 4: accurate deep balls and see what he can do.
- 17:03Speaker 1: But you know, from what I see, the base looks
- 17:07Speaker 1: like it's a J Brown pop Douglas, uh In Hollands.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Well, Romeo Dobbs.
- 17:17Speaker 1: He wasn't out there today.
- 17:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think that's probably fair, and we'll
- 17:21Speaker 4: figure out what they had they do with Booty, you know.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Speaking of Booty. Okay, one sixteen, speaking of Booty. No, okay,
- 17:31Speaker 1: So if you think that he's going to be traded,
- 17:34Speaker 1: do you call up Tampa Bay and say, hey, listen,
- 17:37Speaker 1: we'll give you him, maybe a couple of draft picks
- 17:39Speaker 1: for Vita Vea, because right now the reports out of
- 17:43Speaker 1: Tampa there's nothing but a trade is going to happen.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Like it's what are the draft picks?
- 17:49Speaker 4: Maybe uh second and a third and Booty for Vea. Yeah,
- 17:53Speaker 4: that's a lot.
- 17:53Speaker 1: I wouldn't do it. You might have to do that.
- 17:57Speaker 4: If it wasn't he at all pro one years old.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Christian Barble for Vita Vea, noting like that.
- 18:03Speaker 4: I don't like that at all.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I don't need I do that in a blank.
- 18:07Speaker 4: I'll take Vitavea all day, every day. But I don't
- 18:10Speaker 4: I don't think the market is what is that high
- 18:12Speaker 4: for him?
- 18:13Speaker 1: You don't think so?
- 18:13Speaker 2: No, he's older.
- 18:14Speaker 4: I think if they're getting second and third round picture in.
- 18:17Speaker 1: The contract for a contract, what you know, maybe a
- 18:19Speaker 1: second or third this year and a second next year.
- 18:22Speaker 4: I think I think it's a lot, and there's a lot.
- 18:24Speaker 1: But I mean you might have to do that.
- 18:26Speaker 4: I mean the Red Sox taught us, well, well, it's
- 18:29Speaker 4: a thirty one year old player that wants a new
- 18:31Speaker 4: contract like like that. There's not usually a huge market
- 18:35Speaker 4: for guys like that.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the thing. I don't think they're gonna like.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Which feels like, you know, I mean, I think he's
- 18:41Speaker 5: a great player, and it's just you know, you can
- 18:43Speaker 5: look at every great player in the NFL and be like, well,
- 18:45Speaker 5: I'd love to have him, but like, I think you
- 18:46Speaker 5: have to be realistic about what they have invested in
- 18:49Speaker 5: the defensive line where their holes are, you know, and
- 18:52Speaker 5: giving up a bunch of stuff to get him. Like
- 18:54Speaker 5: would he make the team better, yes, But I just
- 18:56Speaker 5: think if.
- 18:56Speaker 1: You're bringing Vita Vea, Zach Kerr has to like add
- 19:00Speaker 1: some pages to the defensive playbook because he's you know,
- 19:05Speaker 1: he's a nose tackle that you don't have right now,
- 19:07Speaker 1: and now I can do things that maybe I couldn't
- 19:10Speaker 1: do before. But when he's on the field, I'm limiting.
- 19:16Speaker 4: The question is is how do you expand the Tonga
- 19:20Speaker 4: role into a Veya role? Right? Yeah, because Tonga playing
- 19:23Speaker 4: thirty three percent of the snaps last year. You're not
- 19:25Speaker 4: going to trade for Vidavea and have him played thirty
- 19:27Speaker 4: three percent of the snaps, right, So how do you
- 19:29Speaker 4: go about? And Vea can play everywhere like he's a
- 19:32Speaker 4: nose traditionally, but he can play a lot like willfour
- 19:35Speaker 4: could Like he can play all over the line, So
- 19:37Speaker 4: it's not just that he's playing on the nose, but theoretically,
- 19:41Speaker 4: like your three man line is Williams bea barmore, which
- 19:44Speaker 4: is terrific, But how much can you have those three
- 19:47Speaker 4: on the field together? So that means that somebody making
- 19:49Speaker 4: thirty million dollars is standing on the sideline on third down,
- 19:53Speaker 4: which is I guess fine if you're willing to do that.
- 19:56Speaker 4: But to Mike's point, it's like a lot of resources
- 19:58Speaker 4: sunk into one position group. That makes it a little
- 20:01Speaker 4: bit crowded.
- 20:02Speaker 1: But well, if those three can make third down, third
- 20:04Speaker 1: and long every time, it might be worth it.
- 20:07Speaker 4: He's a hell of a player. I just given the situation,
- 20:11Speaker 4: if he really wants out of Tampa and he wants
- 20:13Speaker 4: a new contract, I just you know, I think we
- 20:15Speaker 4: see how this goes where the asking price is usually
- 20:19Speaker 4: not as high as you think in those types of situations.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Yeah, because of the contract.
- 20:23Speaker 4: I didn't think of that.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Yeah in his age it's thirty one.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true.
- 20:28Speaker 1: The other thing I want to talk about GM type
- 20:32Speaker 1: of under the GM umbrella is all these deals that
- 20:35Speaker 1: are going down in the league and which then you
- 20:39Speaker 1: think about our situation, and you've got Gonzo waiting for
- 20:42Speaker 1: his but also with a Spoon waiting for his. Both
- 20:45Speaker 1: those guys are with the same agent, are still waiting.
- 20:48Speaker 1: So what does that tell you, if anything? But what
- 20:51Speaker 1: does that indicate to you? If anything?
- 20:53Speaker 4: Cornerback market is not moving, and I think a lot
- 20:56Speaker 4: of these cornerbacks are not getting paid going into their
- 20:58Speaker 4: third year in the NFL, to which I think is
- 21:01Speaker 4: something that for gon Zone Witherspoon is probably the tough
- 21:04Speaker 4: part of that negotiation. You know, the the Chiefs kind
- 21:07Speaker 4: of did everybody dirty by trading McDuffie and not paying him.
- 21:11Speaker 4: So they carried McDuffie on the roster till his fourth
- 21:14Speaker 4: year and then just traded him to the Rams, and
- 21:16Speaker 4: the Rams paid McDuffie. So the Chiefs made McDuffie play
- 21:19Speaker 4: the fourth year. And I think that that's where the
- 21:23Speaker 4: cornerback market is headed now. For a lot of these
- 21:26Speaker 4: guys are getting forced to wait until their fourth season
- 21:31Speaker 4: to cash in, and Gonzales and Witherspoon are not going
- 21:35Speaker 4: into their fourth season, they're going into their third season.
- 21:38Speaker 4: So is that time in the four season excuse me,
- 21:41Speaker 4: fifth season? Yeah, I.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Know what you were talking about. I wanted to make
- 21:47Speaker 2: sure we did confuse.
- 21:48Speaker 4: And so that I think is, you know, a big
- 21:51Speaker 4: part of what's happening here, and maybe to an extent
- 21:54Speaker 4: that the cornerback market is devalued to an extent by teams.
- 22:00Speaker 4: I think that there's a lot of teams that feel
- 22:02Speaker 4: like we can get pressure, and we can figure out
- 22:04Speaker 4: ways to get pressure in exotic ways to get pressure,
- 22:07Speaker 4: and maybe we don't need to pay the cornerback thirty
- 22:09Speaker 4: five million dollars a year, which is I think what
- 22:11Speaker 4: the chiefs told you. With McDuffie, we have Spagnolo. He's
- 22:15Speaker 4: going to draw blitzes and he's going to make life
- 22:17Speaker 4: easier on the corners. So I think that that's the
- 22:19Speaker 4: biggest takeaway to me, is that the running back market moved.
- 22:22Speaker 4: The wide receiver market obviously is going to continue to move,
- 22:26Speaker 4: but the market. That's not moving is corner. You know,
- 22:28Speaker 4: that's the one that everybody's waiting, and so if you're Gonzales,
- 22:31Speaker 4: it's you're waiting.
- 22:33Speaker 1: It's just a good sign that he's continue to be
- 22:35Speaker 1: out there.
- 22:35Speaker 5: But you know, we'll see. I hope this doesn't go
- 22:37Speaker 5: into the season, you know, I think that might be
- 22:40Speaker 5: not idem.
- 22:41Speaker 3: It tells me that Witherspoon and Gonzales are not interested
- 22:44Speaker 3: in becoming just the highest paid corners.
- 22:47Speaker 2: They're looking to move that needle a little bit.
- 22:49Speaker 1: So you're thinking the agent's playing hardball.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Yep, Well, the players are playing hardball. Players are not
- 22:54Speaker 3: interested in making thirty one point five million a year.
- 22:57Speaker 6: Or a.
- 22:59Speaker 4: Or an esque later contract, which is what a lot
- 23:01Speaker 4: of these younger corners get. Where they're going to give
- 23:04Speaker 4: you like a raise for your fourth season and then
- 23:08Speaker 4: then the contract really doesn't kick in until your fifth season.
- 23:11Speaker 4: So you're making more than what you would make as
- 23:13Speaker 4: a rookie on a rookie contract in your fourth year,
- 23:16Speaker 4: but you're not getting the bag. You don't get the
- 23:18Speaker 4: bag until year five. And that's how a lot of
- 23:20Speaker 4: these other like a Sauce Gardner, that's how their contracts
- 23:23Speaker 4: have been structured, and so I think a lot of
- 23:26Speaker 4: these guys, Witherspoon, Gonzales, they might want They're saying, no,
- 23:29Speaker 4: we want the bag today.
- 23:31Speaker 2: I want to sit in those contracts.
- 23:32Speaker 3: They're interested in their own And I think there was
- 23:35Speaker 3: a clip on Hard Knocks that some of the guys
- 23:37Speaker 3: were talking about today. I didn't see it, so I
- 23:39Speaker 3: might be missing this a little bit, but I guess
- 23:42Speaker 3: Witherspoon had conversation and was talking about how, you know,
- 23:46Speaker 3: beyond quarterback, corner is the most valuable position, and that's
- 23:52Speaker 3: how he looks at it. I'm sure Gonzalez looks at
- 23:54Speaker 3: it the same way. You know, Gonzalez talked about do
- 23:58Speaker 3: you agree with that? I think it's in a small group,
- 24:01Speaker 3: you know, if you want to put edge rusher over
- 24:03Speaker 3: that or wide receiver over that. I mean, I can
- 24:05Speaker 3: listen to your argument. I don't know, but that's it
- 24:08Speaker 3: for me, you know.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I know like people.
- 24:11Speaker 3: I heard it locally on a radio show here about
- 24:14Speaker 3: two weeks ago, someone said that they don't value the
- 24:16Speaker 3: cornerback position at all. They think it's like way down
- 24:19Speaker 3: the list, and I was like, I couldn't possibly disagree more.
- 24:22Speaker 3: I by they like the Patriots. Was no this guy
- 24:26Speaker 3: on the radio, this one one of the guys. It
- 24:29Speaker 3: wasn't a caller. It was no, it wasn't a caller
- 24:33Speaker 3: sewing on it who tends to have the opposite opinion
- 24:37Speaker 3: of absolutely everybody all the time, Mark Dundaro. It was like,
- 24:41Speaker 3: I was like thinking I was in bizarro land. But
- 24:45Speaker 3: I think it's an extremely valuable position. I think it's
- 24:47Speaker 3: an extremely hard one to get right, as Bill Belichick
- 24:51Speaker 3: showed you in his constant search after he let Sante
- 24:55Speaker 3: Samuel walk until he stumbled on Revis like Taliban Revis like,
- 25:01Speaker 3: just as mercenaries came in and sort of saved him.
- 25:04Speaker 3: After all of those years of second round corner stunk,
- 25:08Speaker 3: second round corner stunk, Terrence John will Will you know,
- 25:12Speaker 3: Cyrus Jones, Hurling, Moore, Rossi Dolling were no naming second
- 25:18Speaker 3: round corners.
- 25:19Speaker 2: I just think that couldn't play. Jonathan will Height was
- 25:21Speaker 2: a fourth round corner.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Some of that, though, with Bill was that they played
- 25:24Speaker 4: so much man and like, I think that one of
- 25:26Speaker 4: the things we're seeing across the league is that teams
- 25:28Speaker 4: are playing less and less man coverage. So if you're
- 25:31Speaker 4: not going to be playing a ton of pure man coverage.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Then I can understand the argument of why are we
- 25:36Speaker 4: paying this guy thirty five million dollars to play the
- 25:39Speaker 4: flat and cover two like like, well, you know, we
- 25:42Speaker 4: we're kind of.
- 25:42Speaker 1: But but again it's chicken array. Is the reason why
- 25:46Speaker 1: a lot of the league's playing more zone is because
- 25:49Speaker 1: they don't have that elite corner.
- 25:51Speaker 4: It's possible. I'm just saying, like, I think that's how
- 25:53Speaker 4: a lot of teams look at it. I think a
- 25:55Speaker 4: lot of teams. You know, normally you look at the
- 25:57Speaker 4: premium positions outside a quarterback being people impacting the passing game, receivers, corners,
- 26:03Speaker 4: left tackles, pass rushers, right, But like, as of right now,
- 26:07Speaker 4: the pass rushers are getting paid, the wide receivers are
- 26:09Speaker 4: getting paid, the premium left tackles are getting paid. The
- 26:13Speaker 4: corners are the ones that are singing for their supper
- 26:15Speaker 4: a little bit. And I think is interesting.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Specific to Gonzales, and this is what launched this today
- 26:20Speaker 3: in his because he talked to the media after practice today.
- 26:23Speaker 3: He was asked specifically about his draft class, which is
- 26:26Speaker 3: first of all, a terrific first round. There's a lot
- 26:29Speaker 3: of hits in that first round and those guys are
- 26:31Speaker 3: all getting paid. Jamiir Gibbs is still waiting, and Gonzales
- 26:37Speaker 3: and Witherspoon is still waiting.
- 26:39Speaker 4: I believe Jamir Gibbs is getting signed right as we speak.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Oh, is that him getting off the field today. Yeah,
- 26:44Speaker 3: supposedly he was out at the walkthrough and they.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Paid Bijon, they paid Jonathan Taylor, and so his contract
- 26:49Speaker 4: is going to be basically what Bijon got in Atlanta.
- 26:52Speaker 3: So three for seventy five something like that. So that
- 26:56Speaker 3: that draft class, supposedly, I think there's I think the
- 26:59Speaker 3: numbers is like ten, like eight eight Pro bowlers or
- 27:04Speaker 3: something like that in the first round, and six of
- 27:07Speaker 3: the eight have already gotten paid or something like like
- 27:10Speaker 3: ten of them, like eight of But I mean, you know,
- 27:13Speaker 3: Robinson got it. You know, we just talked about the
- 27:16Speaker 3: Darnelle right the tackle in Chicago I think was like
- 27:18Speaker 3: the tenth or eleventh pick of that draft.
- 27:20Speaker 2: He got it, just just received a big contract.
- 27:23Speaker 3: So Gonzales absolutely, everything he answered about the contract was
- 27:28Speaker 3: I'm gonna let my camp, you know, my team handle that.
- 27:31Speaker 3: I'm not going to talk about any of that. He
- 27:33Speaker 3: was asked specifically about taking notice of his draft class. Yes,
- 27:38Speaker 3: yes he has. So this is I agree with Mike.
- 27:41Speaker 3: It's something to monitor and that you hope gets done
- 27:43Speaker 3: before the season. You don't want this lingering into the season.
- 27:47Speaker 4: But bizarre that the running backs are getting paid. But
- 27:49Speaker 4: the corner I.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Kind of like, I mean, but you know, I don't
- 27:52Speaker 3: like the running back general, you know, I do kind
- 27:55Speaker 3: of like those kinds of contracts. Get them early, give
- 27:58Speaker 3: him maybe more money, and you want to give them,
- 28:01Speaker 3: but it's short term. You know, it's only three years,
- 28:05Speaker 3: and you let him set the market, like that's the
- 28:09Speaker 3: highest paid running back of all time.
- 28:11Speaker 2: B John Robinson. Now Evan's telling me that Gibbs is
- 28:14Speaker 2: going to get the same thing.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Taylor didn't break it.
- 28:17Speaker 3: So you know, I don't know what Tailor's numbers are,
- 28:19Speaker 3: but I can't imagine you got more than twenty five
- 28:21Speaker 3: a year at his age, it.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Was pretty big.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:26Speaker 5: Do you think j Brown's presence has anything to do
- 28:29Speaker 5: with wagons is practicing? Like I just I imagine we
- 28:33Speaker 5: were headed towards the potential hold in and he wasn't
- 28:35Speaker 5: going to participate, And I think about all the things
- 28:37Speaker 5: that we and he would have missed out on had
- 28:40Speaker 5: he not been in these practices going against and I
- 28:42Speaker 5: you know, I think it's.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Been good for him the player. He stayed healthy.
- 28:45Speaker 5: That was a concern obviously, but you know, to be
- 28:47Speaker 5: able to go be out there and go against that guy,
- 28:49Speaker 5: then it's it's a good bonus.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I don't know if that would you know, it's like, well,
- 28:53Speaker 1: I'm going to hold out, but oh he's here.
- 28:55Speaker 2: I won't.
- 28:55Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 28:56Speaker 4: I think he's practicing because there's a chance that he's
- 28:59Speaker 4: going to have to play this year on the rookie contract.
- 29:02Speaker 4: And if he's going to have to pay this year
- 29:03Speaker 4: on the rookie contract, he's got to play well because
- 29:06Speaker 4: whether it's the Patriots or at somebody else, you won't
- 29:08Speaker 4: you're showcasing. You know that you're worth at thirty plus
- 29:11Speaker 4: million dollars a year. You know, I think they all
- 29:13Speaker 4: all those corners, and I keep bringing up, but all
- 29:15Speaker 4: those corners, just watch McDuffie just do this exact same
- 29:18Speaker 4: thing he played the fourth year on the rookie contract.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Yeah, but what about all the other ones that didn't
- 29:23Speaker 3: like Stingley and Startan and Sauce.
- 29:26Speaker 4: Yeah, but years ago, like no, no, not that years ago,
- 29:29Speaker 4: two or three years ago now, but.
- 29:33Speaker 3: When we're all in the same era of football here though,
- 29:35Speaker 3: I understand, but so one guy broke the mold, like
- 29:38Speaker 3: the Duffy had to wait till.
- 29:39Speaker 4: The fourth YEARL like, you're practicing, because it doesn't make
- 29:42Speaker 4: any sense for him to be practicing.
- 29:43Speaker 3: I I think he's choosing attacked. I think he thinks
- 29:47Speaker 3: this is the best way for him to get his contract.
- 29:49Speaker 4: I think that I maybe, but I I think that
- 29:52Speaker 4: there's that he feels like there's a chance that he
- 29:54Speaker 4: might have his win this.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Year in practicing. Yes, okay, so they're both practicing.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Now the word is in Seattle they have a strict
- 30:02Speaker 3: policy that we're not going to negotiate with a player
- 30:05Speaker 3: who's not practiced, Harris, to which I would say, Okay,
- 30:10Speaker 3: I'm not practicing. You don't want to negotiate with me. Okay,
- 30:13Speaker 3: I'm whole, I'm I'm I got a hamstring. I can't practice.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Like, I don't understand how that works, you know.
- 30:21Speaker 3: And Gonzalez has been asked a couple of times about
- 30:24Speaker 3: do the Patriots have a policy like that, and he
- 30:26Speaker 3: hasn't really gone And.
- 30:27Speaker 1: I think if you're a team and you say that
- 30:29Speaker 1: we don't negotiate with people who don't practice, meaning we
- 30:32Speaker 1: do negotiate. If you do practice, you better get the
- 30:35Speaker 1: job done. You better get the deal done because you
- 30:39Speaker 1: know the player is trusting you. Okay, I'm going to
- 30:42Speaker 1: practice now, and you say you're going to negotiate. You know,
- 30:46Speaker 1: if I hear from my agent that you're not being
- 30:49Speaker 1: above board in your offers, then we've got a big problem.
- 30:52Speaker 1: So you know, you have you have to follow through
- 30:55Speaker 1: if you're the team. You know, is there a chance
- 30:58Speaker 1: that this changes though?
- 30:59Speaker 5: And all of a sudden and I like today I
- 31:01Speaker 5: heard somebody mention Gonzalez's name as they were coming out,
- 31:04Speaker 5: and I was like, oh, is he not here today?
- 31:06Speaker 5: Like I feel like I'm still bracing myself that he
- 31:08Speaker 5: might not be out there, you know that that maybe
- 31:11Speaker 5: negotiations have taken a turn and he's getting fed up,
- 31:15Speaker 5: Like and can that possibly happen into the regular season?
- 31:17Speaker 1: Like is there you know what I mean? Like, guys,
- 31:19Speaker 1: don't all of a sudden you pull you pull your hamstring?
- 31:22Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah, I mean he's got to play a
- 31:24Speaker 4: certain amount of games to a crew season and all.
- 31:26Speaker 4: But that's like we're ways away from all that crap.
- 31:29Speaker 4: But I just I just feel like we're I'm trying
- 31:32Speaker 4: to figure out ways other than him saying the right
- 31:34Speaker 4: things of like, I'm just trying to get better, and
- 31:36Speaker 4: if I'm not practicing, I'm not getting better. Like from
- 31:39Speaker 4: his side of it, you know, we're just talking about
- 31:41Speaker 4: the running backs like Jamir Gibbs and Bjhon Robinson were
- 31:44Speaker 4: holding out they were not practicing, right, But the two
- 31:48Speaker 4: corners are practicing, and they have the same agent, and
- 31:52Speaker 4: they're in this exame exact situation as too.
- 31:55Speaker 3: It's it's interesting, yeah, And I do think that this
- 31:58Speaker 3: is where the agent might have something to do with it.
- 32:00Speaker 2: The agent might be encouraging them to practice.
- 32:03Speaker 3: I don't think that's a coincidence that they're both doing
- 32:05Speaker 3: the same thing, right, Yeah, that's a.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Good point too.
- 32:08Speaker 5: I just I guess my brain's wondering who's more valuable
- 32:10Speaker 5: to their team, you know, Witherspoon. I mean, they're different players,
- 32:14Speaker 5: you know, and that's and their different schemes, and you know,
- 32:18Speaker 5: I just I wonder.
- 32:19Speaker 1: How you suss that out as the agent, you know. Well,
- 32:21Speaker 1: I mean what Evan said earlier made me think, you know,
- 32:26Speaker 1: teams that have plans to do a lot of blitzing,
- 32:29Speaker 1: do a lot of early pressure. Does the value of
- 32:33Speaker 1: your cornerbacks go down because of that? It's just something
- 32:37Speaker 1: to think about. I mean, I it's kind of their
- 32:39Speaker 1: marxis chillnes right.
- 32:40Speaker 5: Like noide early, downtown, slide him inside late in the third, Yeah,
- 32:45Speaker 5: and then him and even more kind of play off
- 32:47Speaker 5: of each other.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I just to me, it's it's it's hard to imagine
- 32:52Speaker 1: that when you have an elite cornerback. It isn't a luxury,
- 32:55Speaker 1: It isn't something where there's not a lot of them.
- 32:58Speaker 1: But when you have one, Jesus makes everything so much
- 33:01Speaker 1: easier on defense when you can just take away that
- 33:04Speaker 1: their best player.
- 33:05Speaker 5: It's just the conversation with Drake and A. J. Brown,
- 33:07Speaker 5: You see like how they have to figure it out.
- 33:09Speaker 5: It's like you said, it's a problem, you know, figuring
- 33:12Speaker 5: out how.
- 33:12Speaker 1: He's going to play, what he's good at. It just
- 33:14Speaker 1: to me, it just makes running a defense easier when
- 33:17Speaker 1: you know you've taken away their best producer.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Maybe the offense is going to be so good it
- 33:23Speaker 3: doesn't matter. Well, I think it it was only half Joe.
- 33:28Speaker 3: If they want to play it was pretty good last
- 33:30Speaker 3: year and it should be better.
- 33:32Speaker 4: Yeah, if they want to play defense the way they
- 33:33Speaker 4: did in the playoffs last year, and I think the
- 33:35Speaker 4: way that we've seen out at practice a little bit
- 33:37Speaker 4: where they are going to be kind of scheming it
- 33:41Speaker 4: up in the pass rush to get guys in pressure
- 33:43Speaker 4: to the quarterback. Then you really are putting a lot
- 33:46Speaker 4: of stress on your corners because they're going to be
- 33:48Speaker 4: on islands for a lot of those those times. So
- 33:52Speaker 4: to not have a guy like Gonzalez who can travel
- 33:54Speaker 4: with the JSN or a Courtland Sutton or you know whoever,
- 33:59Speaker 4: that does make it harder to blitz the quarterback forty
- 34:03Speaker 4: five percent of the time.
- 34:04Speaker 11: You know.
- 34:04Speaker 4: I think that that when you are putting all your
- 34:07Speaker 4: resources into the pass rush and in terms of numbers,
- 34:10Speaker 4: and you're really only playing with maybe a safety over
- 34:13Speaker 4: the top or maybe nobody over the top, then you
- 34:16Speaker 4: really need to have a corner like that that can
- 34:18Speaker 4: go out there and cover. So, I don't know, I
- 34:20Speaker 4: find the corner is really valuable to fred I. I
- 34:23Speaker 4: just find it really interesting that everybody else is getting paid,
- 34:26Speaker 4: all the other positions are getting paid, and they're all
- 34:29Speaker 4: kind of going about it different.
- 34:30Speaker 1: It's really only these two guys because the other corner,
- 34:33Speaker 1: I know, he's older, he's on his third contract, but
- 34:35Speaker 1: he got paid.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Who who's done some war got a sweetener paid? Well,
- 34:39Speaker 4: he got a sweetener. But that was that just a
- 34:41Speaker 4: little different a market correction. But like that, like say
- 34:45Speaker 4: Flowers got paid, JSN got paid, Will Anderson got paid
- 34:50Speaker 4: like all these other positions. You know, the two running
- 34:52Speaker 4: backs are not.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Going to get paid a couple of like great draft picks.
- 34:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I think didn't. Jack Campbell got paid to like
- 35:00Speaker 4: so like just going right down the list, the two
- 35:02Speaker 4: guys that are waiting are the corners with the same agent,
- 35:06Speaker 4: with the same agent, so you can't so maybe the other.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Guy they're an outlier and they're a little weird.
- 35:11Speaker 3: You know, maybe that's just this kind of I'm not
- 35:13Speaker 3: just dis missing Evans theory. I just you know, i'd
- 35:17Speaker 3: fire my agent if I let Trent McDuffie's contract completely
- 35:21Speaker 3: dictate the market just one guy, you know, yeah, like
- 35:26Speaker 3: you know, the team's never let one outlier, Like not
- 35:29Speaker 3: everybody got two hundred and fifty million because Deshaun Watson
- 35:32Speaker 3: signed a contract like that guaranteed right that you know
- 35:35Speaker 3: that that became an outlier contract. So it never goes
- 35:38Speaker 3: the outlier that goes the wrong way, never like permeates
- 35:41Speaker 3: the league. But now we got an outliar that went
- 35:43Speaker 3: the other way that they made him play the fourth
- 35:46Speaker 3: year and then he had to wait and get traded
- 35:48Speaker 3: and get his money somewhere else.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Is gonna prevent Gonzales and Witherspoon from him.
- 35:52Speaker 4: I'm not saying it is. I'm just saying that that
- 35:56Speaker 4: was the most recent example of a cornerback that was
- 35:59Speaker 4: on a rookie contract, that was a really good player
- 36:01Speaker 4: that was trying to get paid, and that's how it
- 36:03Speaker 4: went for McDuffie. Now the Chiefs have a history of that,
- 36:07Speaker 4: so maybe that's just the steed. Yeah, it might just
- 36:11Speaker 4: be a Kansas City thing. But we're here on August sixth.
- 36:14Speaker 4: Then with the Spoon, Gonzales still don't have contracts, all right?
- 36:17Speaker 1: A five to five pass five hundred is the hotline
- 36:20Speaker 1: podcast at Patriots dot com is the email address.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Sneaky, poorly run organization despite all the winning.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Oh when you got mahomes Hermes in d C, what's
- 36:29Speaker 1: up herm? It's got a plane?
- 36:31Speaker 12: I guess hey, I kind of a I'll guess maybe
- 36:38Speaker 12: like an odd question today in the spirit of the
- 36:41Speaker 12: Eagles come in to us for a joint practice in
- 36:44Speaker 12: about two weeks.
- 36:45Speaker 13: Right, then, it seems to be a national love affair
- 36:52Speaker 13: with Joe Burrow. And if you just oppose it to
- 36:57Speaker 13: the conversations rounding Jail and Hurt, I just I just
- 37:02Speaker 13: don't get it because it seems like Joe Burr is being.
- 37:06Speaker 14: Put in this pedestal like he you know, you know,
- 37:09Speaker 14: won every year since he joined the league. And then
- 37:13Speaker 14: on the flip side, it almost like seems like the
- 37:17Speaker 14: constations around Jeling hurt Jalen.
- 37:19Speaker 15: Hurts is that all he's been doing is losing. So
- 37:23Speaker 15: I guess my question to you all is what is
- 37:27Speaker 15: the love affair with with Joe Burrow on a national level?
- 37:32Speaker 13: And then duppo to the conversation with Jayleen Hurt.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Well, Jalen Hurts might be the Jalen Brown of the NFL.
- 37:40Speaker 1: You know, he wins a lot and probably doesn't get
- 37:44Speaker 1: the respect he thinks he should get. Uh, And you know,
- 37:48Speaker 1: Joe Burrow might get more than you know, at least
- 37:51Speaker 1: herm it sounds like you think he should get. I think,
- 37:54Speaker 1: you know, with Burrow, there's like he's a good marketing tool.
- 37:57Speaker 1: I mean, like he wears the first coats and like
- 38:01Speaker 1: he's Joe cool and and he is a good quarterback
- 38:04Speaker 1: when he's healthy.
- 38:05Speaker 2: There's no doubt about that. What do you think is better?
- 38:07Speaker 2: What do you think is a better an NFL court?
- 38:09Speaker 1: Joe Joe Burrow not not even close. But he hasn't
- 38:14Speaker 1: won as much as Jalen Hurs.
- 38:16Speaker 4: Well, if you put.
- 38:19Speaker 1: That's the bottom line, he hasn't won as much as Jalen.
- 38:22Speaker 3: You can't make an argument that the Jalen Hurts Eagles
- 38:24Speaker 3: are underachieved. Maybe they're kind of stacked, but but I
- 38:28Speaker 3: think I think, I just think.
- 38:29Speaker 1: That Burrow is a for marketing purposes and as as
- 38:34Speaker 1: far as you know faces of the NFL, I think
- 38:37Speaker 1: that he's easier to sell.
- 38:40Speaker 4: I think that there's Daniel Jeremia always uses the analogy
- 38:45Speaker 4: of like there's bus drivers and there's passengers. Joe Burrow
- 38:49Speaker 4: is a bus driver, Like you put that guy at
- 38:51Speaker 4: the wheel and he is driving force of your team's success. Yeah,
- 38:55Speaker 4: Jalen Hurts I think is more of a passenger. Like
- 38:58Speaker 4: I think Jalen Hurts has been on really now he's
- 39:01Speaker 4: played really well, and I think he's give quarter back.
- 39:04Speaker 4: I don't think he's a different but I think he's
- 39:07Speaker 4: you know, when you have that offensive line in Saquon
- 39:10Speaker 4: Barkley and A. J. Brown and DeVante Smith and Dallas
- 39:13Speaker 4: Goddard in.
- 39:13Speaker 2: The defense in a very good defend roster.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Yeah, it's still one of the best rosters.
- 39:19Speaker 1: In Joe Burrow was wasted in Cincinnati. It's one of
- 39:22Speaker 1: the you know, I always say, uh, Andrew Luck, It's
- 39:26Speaker 1: a shame that he was on the Colts.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Because he's your modern day Andrew Luck.
- 39:29Speaker 1: He's wasted there.
- 39:30Speaker 2: I also thought it was a remarkably gifted quarterback.
- 39:33Speaker 4: He's been more successful than Andrew Luck. I would say,
- 39:36Speaker 4: like your Super Bowl got to one and got back
- 39:38Speaker 4: to champions but.
- 39:40Speaker 2: I think Luck probably has a much better postseason.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Joe Burrow on the Giants. Can you imagine that, you know?
- 39:45Speaker 4: Or why we want to put him on the Giant
- 39:47Speaker 4: New York, Oh, New York.
- 39:51Speaker 1: Joe Burrow in l A on the Chargers. It is mean.
- 39:55Speaker 4: Joe Burrow was like, that was a one possession game
- 39:57Speaker 4: in that Super Bowl that they lost to the Rams.
- 39:59Speaker 4: You know, they had they had the ball and they
- 40:01Speaker 4: were driving.
- 40:01Speaker 3: A lot of people will tell you if Aaron Donald
- 40:03Speaker 3: didn't hit him on that throw, he had Chase open
- 40:07Speaker 3: down the sideline.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Yeah, the fourth.
- 40:09Speaker 4: Double plays away from winning a Super Bowl.
- 40:10Speaker 5: That's what makes him so interesting to me, is I
- 40:12Speaker 5: mean until you got aj Brown, we spent similar time
- 40:15Speaker 5: coveting wide receivers and I mean, god, how much time
- 40:18Speaker 5: do we talk about trying to get t Higgins?
- 40:19Speaker 1: And he's had both those guys and you know, really
- 40:22Speaker 1: is just injuries that people point to.
- 40:23Speaker 5: But at a certain point, when do you kind of say,
- 40:25Speaker 5: look like, I know your offensive line hasn't been great,
- 40:27Speaker 5: but you've got two of I mean Jamar Chase probably
- 40:30Speaker 5: the best receiver in the league, T Higgins not too
- 40:32Speaker 5: far behind him that you know, you have those two
- 40:34Speaker 5: weapons and an excellent quarterback.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Like, what's the problem.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it's football. You need a little bit more than that.
- 40:40Speaker 4: And you know it said defense is the problem? Like
- 40:43Speaker 4: the defense two years ago, through what forty five touchdown passes,
- 40:46Speaker 4: the defense has given up thirty points game.
- 40:48Speaker 1: I mean Tom Brady twenty eleven.
- 40:50Speaker 5: Tom Brady had a terrible defense too, and then he
- 40:52Speaker 5: get their lines has stopped.
- 40:54Speaker 1: They've been trying to fix it left and right.
- 40:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I think less about the line because he had
- 40:58Speaker 3: the worst offensive line in football, went to the Super Bowl,
- 41:00Speaker 3: but he gets hurt a lot, so that's on him.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Yeah, you got I mean something, you got to say
- 41:06Speaker 2: one thing.
- 41:06Speaker 5: We all kind of point to right, like is there
- 41:08Speaker 5: there's no other real like, come on, dude, get it together,
- 41:10Speaker 5: Like he's just it's injuries.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Jo Burrow and Dallas.
- 41:13Speaker 4: Can you imagine that? Poor Joe Burrow Cincinnati, I really,
- 41:18Speaker 4: I mean two years ago their problem was definitely their
- 41:21Speaker 4: defense has been there, threw all the touchdown talk for
- 41:24Speaker 4: a handful of years. But I think, guy, you know,
- 41:27Speaker 4: he has less to prove though than like Josh Allen
- 41:30Speaker 4: or Herbert or Lamar. Like he's done more winning than
- 41:33Speaker 4: those guys have.
- 41:35Speaker 2: So Joe Burrow has done more winning than Josh Allen
- 41:37Speaker 2: in the playoffs.
- 41:38Speaker 4: Yeah, he's like five and two, Paul, he went to
- 41:41Speaker 4: a super bowls a super Bowl. Okay, So why do
- 41:47Speaker 4: we why do we analyze the games if we just
- 41:49Speaker 4: have to look and see who won the Super Bowl
- 41:50Speaker 4: and said he's won more in the playoffs, you think.
- 41:53Speaker 2: I do think he's won more in the playoffs because.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Josh Allens won a bunch of wild card games that
- 41:58Speaker 4: we're gonna rack him up.
- 41:59Speaker 1: So that way we do.
- 42:02Speaker 2: So Joe, what what Joe Burrows five and two in
- 42:04Speaker 2: the playoffs?
- 42:05Speaker 1: I just looked it up.
- 42:06Speaker 3: And Andrew was four and four, and so he does
- 42:08Speaker 3: have a better record than Andrew Lucky we were comparing.
- 42:10Speaker 3: But Josh Allen, which Josh Allen's got like ten or
- 42:13Speaker 3: twelve playoff wins?
- 42:14Speaker 4: Does he not? He's been in the playoffs more?
- 42:17Speaker 12: Yeah?
- 42:17Speaker 3: Yeah, So now we're so now we're not crediting for
- 42:20Speaker 3: making the playoffs, but we're giving Borrow credit for not
- 42:23Speaker 3: making the players go to.
- 42:25Speaker 4: The super Bowl. But don't I said he's had more
- 42:28Speaker 4: success in the playoffs. I don't think he has.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Is that not what I said?
- 42:32Speaker 2: I think eight wins is better than five?
- 42:34Speaker 1: Okay?
- 42:34Speaker 4: So which a wild card round is better than five?
- 42:37Speaker 2: Okay?
- 42:38Speaker 3: So let's take all the wildcard games away. Joe Burrow
- 42:40Speaker 3: went to many non wildcard games. Is Joe Burrow won one?
- 42:43Speaker 4: He went to an AFC championship game that he lost
- 42:45Speaker 4: to Mahomes and they had to hit along the sideline
- 42:48Speaker 4: that they called in the Chiefs favor. They lost that
- 42:50Speaker 4: game and then he made it. That was back to
- 42:52Speaker 4: back years, right.
- 42:53Speaker 2: So he won wildcard game that year.
- 42:55Speaker 4: Okay, So so Josh Allen went to the AFC Championship
- 42:58Speaker 4: game the COVID year and hasn't been back. We're twenty
- 43:01Speaker 4: twenty six.
- 43:02Speaker 3: So it's I would say that, but Adlin's there more often.
- 43:05Speaker 3: He's had a better playoff track record. Okay, like one
- 43:09Speaker 3: run that he made he got.
- 43:11Speaker 2: To the super Bowl. It's two runs though, it's not
- 43:14Speaker 2: one run to the super Bowl.
- 43:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Otherwise, Alan did the same thing. Allen got to conference championship.
- 43:19Speaker 3: They losing the conference championship, just.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Like Burrow did.
- 43:21Speaker 4: Yeah, it didn't get blown one time.
- 43:24Speaker 2: One time. Borrow got to the super Bowl. So that
- 43:27Speaker 2: makes him better.
- 43:27Speaker 4: I didn't say it made him better.
- 43:29Speaker 2: You said he had more playoff success. I don't think
- 43:31Speaker 2: he has. He hasn't been to the playoffs.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Agree, Like, if you want to say he's had more
- 43:35Speaker 3: playoff success than Lamar Jackson, that I would, I would.
- 43:38Speaker 3: I would agree with Lamar Jackson's really never had any
- 43:41Speaker 3: playoff runs. None or Herbert, well, Herbert has never won
- 43:46Speaker 3: the playoff.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Gave me listen, I give Joe Burrow that's a blow.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Joe Burrow getting to the playoffs once with that team.
- 43:50Speaker 1: I give him a lot of credit for But Josh,
- 43:53Speaker 1: I think Josh Allen has been more successful.
- 43:55Speaker 4: I mean in the playoffs.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Was Buffalo any less a mess when Joe Burrow Josh
- 43:58Speaker 2: Allen got there than since it?
- 44:00Speaker 4: Right?
- 44:01Speaker 2: Right, Like that's a mess of.
- 44:03Speaker 4: We have different definitions of playoff success and that's okay.
- 44:06Speaker 4: We don't have to keep arguing.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Yeah, success for me is playing well in playoff games.
- 44:10Speaker 1: That's I think.
- 44:10Speaker 4: Burrows played really well in the playoffs. Now he hasn't
- 44:12Speaker 4: been there as often as Josh, but that's part of it.
- 44:15Speaker 1: I mean to say, like when he's there, he's played well.
- 44:21Speaker 1: It is true, but he's not there a lot.
- 44:23Speaker 4: That's okay. That wasn't my argument. That's not what I said.
- 44:26Speaker 4: And if he would keep repeating that, like if he was,
- 44:29Speaker 4: if he was, like.
- 44:32Speaker 2: What did you say that Josh Allen was eight and seven?
- 44:34Speaker 1: Eight and seven?
- 44:35Speaker 2: If he was, if he was like eight and seven, I.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Would say he's had more playoff success than Josh Allen
- 44:39Speaker 3: because he's there every year and he made deeper run.
- 44:41Speaker 3: He made deeper runs than Josh Allen, but he went twice.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Like when he was there one year, he had a
- 44:49Speaker 3: more success than Josh Allen. But I'd rather be the
- 44:51Speaker 3: guy that gets there every year, so would I. That's
- 44:54Speaker 3: not that's more success in the playoffs. I think that's
- 44:57Speaker 3: more playoff success.
- 44:59Speaker 4: Jordan says the post and we went whoop.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Jordan say, I think he had more playoff successes. You
- 45:04Speaker 2: don't like. That's not moving the goal post. We disagree.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Goal post was here, we went not really you can
- 45:09Speaker 2: move goal posts. I still disagree with you.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Joe Burrow is a bus driver. If he was my
- 45:13Speaker 1: bus driver, I would never get to school because he's
- 45:16Speaker 1: hurt every season. Best ability is availability and he gets
- 45:19Speaker 1: overrated over one good season and beating Mahomes on the road.
- 45:23Speaker 4: I mean, okay, talent wise he is.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not going to go there. Joe Burrow is
- 45:30Speaker 1: one of the top three or four quarterbacks in the NFL.
- 45:34Speaker 3: I think there's four, and I think he's one of them.
- 45:37Speaker 3: But like, I mean, I think that's silly to kill
- 45:42Speaker 3: Joe Burrow because he gets hurt all the time. Like
- 45:47Speaker 3: I think that's a mark against him. But like to
- 45:49Speaker 3: say that you'd never get to like, I don't know.
- 45:52Speaker 3: I just think this is a Patriots thing, like who
- 45:55Speaker 3: we have to lash out, We have to lash out
- 45:57Speaker 3: at all the other good quarterbacks because no one's as
- 45:59Speaker 3: good as Brady and now no one's as good as Drake.
- 46:01Speaker 2: So that's the case.
- 46:03Speaker 3: Did you see some of these rankings that have come
- 46:05Speaker 3: out where like Drake has been consistently in the second tier. Yeah,
- 46:09Speaker 3: how many comments you're getting on these?
- 46:11Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 46:11Speaker 2: Like this is is he being snubbed?
- 46:13Speaker 1: It wrankles, Uh Patriots.
- 46:15Speaker 4: Fans not not by Matt McCarthy said that Geez sunk
- 46:18Speaker 4: in the playoffs.
- 46:19Speaker 1: And that's that's all. Okay, good discussion, discussion.
- 46:23Speaker 2: I like it.
- 46:24Speaker 1: I like it. Chris with a T, I A N.
- 46:27Speaker 4: What's up, Christian?
- 46:30Speaker 10: Hey, I'm with that. And Josh Allen sucks in the playoffs?
- 46:33Speaker 4: Okay, thanks Christian.
- 46:36Speaker 1: That was one of the great ASC championships of all time.
- 46:39Speaker 4: I mean him going up against mahomes.
- 46:40Speaker 2: Back that that was a divisional round doesn't count.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Sorry, sorry, bad argument, so it doesn't count, Tomato, divisional
- 46:50Speaker 3: ground doesn't count.
- 46:51Speaker 4: Okay, but I moved the goal post.
- 46:56Speaker 10: I had a question about the private equity stake that
- 47:00Speaker 10: the Patriots sold and I think it was like eight or.
- 47:04Speaker 13: Nine percent or something.
- 47:06Speaker 10: How can that How can that money be used? And
- 47:09Speaker 10: does the team? Does the team get all that money once?
- 47:13Speaker 10: And can it be used you know, for for for
- 47:16Speaker 10: players and for contracts or is it always designated for
- 47:19Speaker 10: like certain certain things. I always wonder that, and I
- 47:22Speaker 10: even when I read online, can never really get like
- 47:24Speaker 10: a like a clear answer. Well, it was just curious.
- 47:27Speaker 10: How like that structured?
- 47:28Speaker 4: I don't know how it's structured.
- 47:29Speaker 1: But I know this. If you've got that money like
- 47:33Speaker 1: on paper in the bank, you can use it to
- 47:36Speaker 1: leverage loans at low rates. You know, so even if
- 47:39Speaker 1: you don't get in in a lump sum liquid, yeah,
- 47:43Speaker 1: the bank knows it's coming so that you can do
- 47:45Speaker 1: more things.
- 47:46Speaker 4: I mean, there's a building down the street that, yes,
- 47:49Speaker 4: is now a building because they sold eight percent of
- 47:53Speaker 4: the team to private right.
- 47:54Speaker 1: And so one thing I do know though is once
- 47:56Speaker 1: you do that as an owner, now it's always in
- 48:01Speaker 1: all these agreements that now they can that you have
- 48:03Speaker 1: to be audited by all that all the result of
- 48:07Speaker 1: that has to go to those equity partners, you know,
- 48:10Speaker 1: so you're you're under more of a microscope when you
- 48:13Speaker 1: take on those people.
- 48:14Speaker 3: So one of the reasons that teams like to use
- 48:17Speaker 3: the private equity stuff Christian is because it allows them
- 48:20Speaker 3: to have that liquid cache, which you're required to have
- 48:23Speaker 3: in escrow. When you sign these enormous contracts like the
- 48:27Speaker 3: one we're talking about with Gonzales and the one the
- 48:29Speaker 3: one that's coming up meat year with Drake May, you
- 48:32Speaker 3: have to have. The NFL mandates that you have an
- 48:36Speaker 3: escrow account. If you give someone a fifty million dollars
- 48:39Speaker 3: signing bonus that he's due on January first, you need
- 48:43Speaker 3: to have that money and escrow in advance of that,
- 48:47Speaker 3: and a lot of you know, some owners don't really
- 48:50Speaker 3: have that kind of liquid. Like every team can build
- 48:53Speaker 3: the facility down the street, you know, down the parking
- 48:56Speaker 3: lot with loans and leveraging money and whatever. That's they're
- 49:00Speaker 3: great businessman and that's what they've made their money doing.
- 49:04Speaker 3: But when you have a stipulation that says if you
- 49:06Speaker 3: want to sign this player to this contract and you're
- 49:08Speaker 3: giving them this amount of money, you need to have
- 49:11Speaker 3: X amount of millions of dollars, not in like you know,
- 49:14Speaker 3: in your four oh one K or not in the bank.
- 49:17Speaker 3: You know, like you need to have the actual dollars.
- 49:20Speaker 3: That's where the private equity stuff I think is coming in.
- 49:22Speaker 3: I think that's you know, you know, I don't and
- 49:26Speaker 3: I don't even pretend to be a business guy at
- 49:28Speaker 3: that level. But you can make an argument either way
- 49:32Speaker 3: like that's what it's good, that's why it's good, or
- 49:34Speaker 3: that could be why it's bad.
- 49:36Speaker 1: But also you know, listen, like let's just say you
- 49:38Speaker 1: were a team that took on equity partners and didn't
- 49:41Speaker 1: have big contracts coming up. I guess you can use
- 49:43Speaker 1: that money anyway you want, but you're beholden to that investor.
- 49:46Speaker 1: That's that's an investment for them, and.
- 49:48Speaker 3: You also need to get yeah, that that investment needs
- 49:51Speaker 3: to get immediately returned upon your success.
- 49:53Speaker 4: That's right.
- 49:54Speaker 3: So you can't say, yeah, yeah, I know, I owe
- 49:56Speaker 3: you that one hundred and ten million, but I'm going
- 49:58Speaker 3: to wait on that as soon as you you got
- 50:00Speaker 3: to get it back to that.
- 50:01Speaker 4: I think that a big part of why private equity
- 50:04Speaker 4: has found its way into sports is because a lot
- 50:07Speaker 4: of these owners have owned these teams for years and
- 50:09Speaker 4: years and years, and even though their worth is tied
- 50:13Speaker 4: up in the asset like they are worth ten billion dollars,
- 50:17Speaker 4: because the Patriots are worth ten billion dollars, But that
- 50:20Speaker 4: doesn't mean they have ten billion dollars of cash in
- 50:22Speaker 4: their mattress right right, So in order for them to
- 50:26Speaker 4: cash out on the asset, they would have to sell
- 50:28Speaker 4: the asset. So what they're allowing teams to do. And
- 50:31Speaker 4: this kind of came into football because a lot of
- 50:34Speaker 4: these teams are owned by families that have owned the
- 50:37Speaker 4: teams for generations. So the Rooneys, for example, like haven't
- 50:42Speaker 4: been able to really cash in on the asset in
- 50:44Speaker 4: fifty years, you know, So like this is the way
- 50:47Speaker 4: that they go about allowing them to get more liquid
- 50:49Speaker 4: cash on hand is selling these you know, the Patriots
- 50:52Speaker 4: sold eight percent of the team to private equity. That
- 50:56Speaker 4: Dad's a big reason why they're doing it is because really,
- 50:59Speaker 4: I know, it sounds crazy because they're net worse or
- 51:01Speaker 4: in the billions, but it's because their portfolios of net
- 51:04Speaker 4: worth is in the billions, not because they actually have
- 51:07Speaker 4: that that's not.
- 51:08Speaker 5: And you look on Zillo and says your home value
- 51:10Speaker 5: is good, but go take out a he lock loan
- 51:14Speaker 5: against the value of your house. You know, it's kind
- 51:16Speaker 5: of how it works. Loosen up some of that.
- 51:22Speaker 1: But I did read somewhere where last year or beginning
- 51:27Speaker 1: of this year, every owner in the NFL got a
- 51:29Speaker 1: check for almost half a billion dollars.
- 51:32Speaker 5: And that's before just for the c BA stuff, anything
- 51:35Speaker 5: for like team podcast hosts.
- 51:36Speaker 10: Or anything like that.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it doesn't. Yeah the house which, by the way,
- 51:44Speaker 1: episode yeah, episode four will will hit on Sunday. Episode
- 51:49Speaker 1: three really taking off.
- 51:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Yeah, we interviewed a guy named Bob King, and I
- 51:53Speaker 1: guess he has a good circle of people, so spread
- 51:57Speaker 1: the word. What the king specialty was he do? He
- 52:00Speaker 1: is a restauranteur. He owned many restaurants and sandwich. Yeah,
- 52:05Speaker 1: and then uh not this episode, we've already filmed it.
- 52:09Speaker 1: But the episode after we're going to be doing home
- 52:10Speaker 1: security for homeowners. Yeah, that's a good one.
- 52:14Speaker 5: You know, serial killers often just find open doors, like
- 52:17Speaker 5: you know, it's just like they go and they try doors,
- 52:19Speaker 5: they get in, they go right. And that was one
- 52:20Speaker 5: of the things that from this many serial killer books
- 52:22Speaker 5: I've read that I don't alarmed and just make sure your.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Doors are locked. People don't don't make it easy, don't
- 52:28Speaker 1: make it serial killers.
- 52:30Speaker 4: I like the apartment. There's only one way in one
- 52:32Speaker 4: way curious watch any furious?
- 52:35Speaker 2: Oh no, I bet you that would be one that
- 52:38Speaker 2: Lane might.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Like Cam in Florida. What's up, Cam, Cam Calm.
- 52:47Speaker 8: They can it's Ken, Ken Ken, Hey, guys, how are
- 52:53Speaker 8: you doing?
- 52:53Speaker 11: Man?
- 52:53Speaker 1: I'm getting palms up from our producer, but we'll go ahead.
- 52:56Speaker 7: Ken, No problem. Hey guys, morning show, this ring. I
- 53:00Speaker 7: heard something about.
- 53:03Speaker 16: For booty.
- 53:04Speaker 8: What would you guys think about something like that?
- 53:06Speaker 17: I do that.
- 53:08Speaker 4: We we did that a couple of I would.
- 53:10Speaker 1: I would do it.
- 53:10Speaker 2: I don't think the Giants would.
- 53:11Speaker 4: I don't think that that's really been that talk has
- 53:15Speaker 4: kind of cooled off.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Okay, thanks, boom Good is definitely.
- 53:23Speaker 4: Still on the you know, he'll hang up and we'll see.
- 53:25Speaker 4: But I feel like Thibodeau, we haven't heard quite as
- 53:28Speaker 4: much about him getting moved as we did maybe in
- 53:31Speaker 4: the spring.
- 53:33Speaker 3: Now, neighbors, he looks he looks better than he looks like. Yeah,
- 53:37Speaker 3: he's been back on the practice field. So maybe the
- 53:40Speaker 3: urgency for depth of receiver maybe isn't as big for
- 53:44Speaker 3: the for the Giants, But I know that I don't
- 53:47Speaker 3: know that they're going to get it. This is like
- 53:49Speaker 3: Evan's thing, like these guys always seem like they're going
- 53:51Speaker 3: to get more than they do.
- 53:52Speaker 2: I agree with Evan on that they were talking about
- 53:56Speaker 2: like a Day two pick for Thibodeaux, right.
- 53:59Speaker 4: Yeah, like a third or fourth round pick, similar to
- 54:02Speaker 4: like what Jalen Phillips got when he moved at the
- 54:04Speaker 4: deadline last year.
- 54:05Speaker 2: But I'm not sure that Booty gets it.
- 54:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna t Paul up on this email. Andrew writes,
- 54:11Speaker 1: and when is enough enough? We have contracts getting more
- 54:14Speaker 1: and more extravagant, and I understand we do have some
- 54:16Speaker 1: increase in salary caps to help that issue. I think
- 54:19Speaker 1: the league needs to get back to reality because these
- 54:21Speaker 1: franchisers are having trouble even building a great team because
- 54:25Speaker 1: a player and agent greed. Greed, bad calls, and bad
- 54:29Speaker 1: rules are ruining the league in the entertainment for watchers.
- 54:32Speaker 2: I agree with the last part of that email strongly.
- 54:34Speaker 2: The bad calls are ruining the league.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I like that, that's just yeah.
- 54:38Speaker 5: I mean, we should hold a bag like the way
- 54:40Speaker 5: of the world, Like I just every time it's like
- 54:41Speaker 5: can you believe? I can't believe how much it was,
- 54:43Speaker 5: because that's just the way that sports contracts are going.
- 54:46Speaker 1: It's a little jarring to me though, when you have
- 54:48Speaker 1: to switch.
- 54:48Speaker 5: Sports and they talk about like a huge hockey contract
- 54:50Speaker 5: and it's like, oh yeah, yeah, like that's big.
- 54:53Speaker 4: You know the contract that the guy in San Jose got,
- 54:55Speaker 4: that was like a legit contract, like you know, as
- 54:58Speaker 4: far as hockey goes, that was quite the contract that
- 55:00Speaker 4: he got.
- 55:01Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean when you're what did you say
- 55:03Speaker 3: that the dental and hockey, what did you say they
- 55:06Speaker 3: ran the better?
- 55:07Speaker 4: That would be expensive?
- 55:08Speaker 1: What did you say they cash a check for close
- 55:10Speaker 1: to like four hundred and fifty million, four.
- 55:13Speaker 3: Hundred, four hundred and fifty million dollars but doing nothing
- 55:17Speaker 3: but existing?
- 55:19Speaker 1: What did that money come to TV for.
- 55:22Speaker 2: Just being there?
- 55:24Speaker 3: Like, and if you're good at it, that's craft is
- 55:27Speaker 3: and you you can sell rights to different things and
- 55:30Speaker 3: you know, maximize your revenue.
- 55:31Speaker 2: Can you imagine money?
- 55:33Speaker 4: This is the problem with these leagues, Like this is
- 55:35Speaker 4: you know, more of a problem in baseball, I would
- 55:37Speaker 4: say in other leagues, but like you have teams with
- 55:40Speaker 4: that are collecting the revenue share check that's equal to
- 55:42Speaker 4: everybody else, and their payrolls are like, you know nothing,
- 55:47Speaker 4: And the biggest problem in base and so there their
- 55:49Speaker 4: return on investment is massive because they're making the revenue
- 55:53Speaker 4: share check, but their payroll is so low, whereas like
- 55:56Speaker 4: a team like the Dodgers, you know, they have a
- 55:58Speaker 4: really big payroll and they're making a ton of money
- 56:01Speaker 4: because of their TV contract right now.
- 56:03Speaker 2: They have a huge regional name.
- 56:05Speaker 4: Yeah, but like that, that's I don't think that's as
- 56:07Speaker 4: big of a problem in football. But in baseball, do.
- 56:10Speaker 3: You really think there's a team in I mean, I
- 56:11Speaker 3: know that the emailer probably wasn't being one hundred percent,
- 56:14Speaker 3: and he's probably trying to set me off, But do
- 56:15Speaker 3: you really think there's a team in football that doesn't
- 56:17Speaker 3: have the money to compete?
- 56:19Speaker 1: Well, I think a lot of I think there are
- 56:21Speaker 1: some teams whose owners don't have the money. That's not
- 56:25Speaker 1: what I asked, but you know, and now that they're
- 56:28Speaker 1: allowing these equity partners, there's no excuse.
- 56:31Speaker 4: Yeah, And this is why I just don't think that there.
- 56:34Speaker 3: I totally see the difference between a Dallas or a
- 56:38Speaker 3: New England in Washington and the Giants to like, you know, Arizona,
- 56:44Speaker 3: you know, Carolina. I totally see the difference. Green Bay
- 56:48Speaker 3: is probably the poster child for that. But like there's
- 56:52Speaker 3: no difference in what these teams can set spend on
- 56:55Speaker 3: their salaries. Like that's all that you might be able
- 56:58Speaker 3: to make more money and be we're valuable of a
- 57:00Speaker 3: franchise with the brand name that Pittsburgh and Dallas and
- 57:03Speaker 3: New England have, But I'm sorry, Like, when you're catching
- 57:07Speaker 3: a four hundred and fifty million dollar check just for
- 57:09Speaker 3: being in the NFL, you can pay all the money
- 57:12Speaker 3: you want to.
- 57:13Speaker 2: Your your roster.
- 57:15Speaker 3: I mean, there's a reason the salary cap is exploding
- 57:17Speaker 3: every year because the revenues are exploding every year. Next year,
- 57:21Speaker 3: two years, they're going they're trying to have like sixteen
- 57:23Speaker 3: international games, you know much money they make off of those.
- 57:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's why they do them is I
- 57:28Speaker 4: think there's going to be another spike because the TV
- 57:30Speaker 4: contract is coming up soon.
- 57:32Speaker 2: They're trying it's really not coming up. They're going to
- 57:34Speaker 2: get out of it and make a new one.
- 57:36Speaker 1: Well I heard Fox isn't interested right now.
- 57:39Speaker 4: Well, I think you you know a lot of people.
- 57:41Speaker 4: I think I can put Paul in this category. Like
- 57:44Speaker 4: the streaming is going to get me more, you know,
- 57:47Speaker 4: like Amazon, Netflix. I think they're going to get more games.
- 57:50Speaker 1: But you know, I'm not gonna, like, you know, get
- 57:54Speaker 1: any sympathy for owners by saying this. But there is overhead.
- 57:57Speaker 1: I mean, for example, just you know, building down the
- 58:01Speaker 1: street here is over two hundred million dollars. Then you
- 58:04Speaker 1: know there's if you have an older stadium, you have
- 58:06Speaker 1: to renovate or else it's gonna go and disrepair, you know.
- 58:10Speaker 1: So there's a lot of money you have to spend there.
- 58:13Speaker 1: So there are and then you know, not to mention,
- 58:15Speaker 1: you know, the money that you have to have an
- 58:17Speaker 1: s grow for big contracts that are coming up.
- 58:19Speaker 3: So in the most successful pre and post game show
- 58:21Speaker 3: in the history of the NFL does not come.
- 58:24Speaker 2: Cheap, you know, So actually it does.
- 58:26Speaker 1: Yes, yes, there is a lot. There is a lot
- 58:29Speaker 1: of money coming in, there's no doubt. But there's also
- 58:31Speaker 1: a lot of money going out for these teams.
- 58:33Speaker 4: I think the one thing that you're working for the
- 58:36Speaker 4: team has taught me just watching visually US travel and
- 58:41Speaker 4: the amount of money moving that goes into US traveling
- 58:45Speaker 4: where there's seven buses and a team plane and an
- 58:49Speaker 4: X score two hundred hotel rooms.
- 58:52Speaker 2: Sorry what an ES score for bars?
- 58:55Speaker 4: The police escort police. You know, all the food, food
- 59:00Speaker 4: that's available to the players on the road, the conference rooms,
- 59:04Speaker 4: the whole takeover of the hotel, the people going early
- 59:08Speaker 4: to scout the hotel that we're going to, like all
- 59:11Speaker 4: these different things. I'm just thinking to myself, how many
- 59:14Speaker 4: millions does this cost to just take the team and
- 59:18Speaker 4: move trip per trip, because it like, it's insane. It's
- 59:23Speaker 4: actually insane the operation. It's it's really cool to watch,
- 59:26Speaker 4: but it's insane the operation and the cost that it
- 59:29Speaker 4: must be to move us.
- 59:31Speaker 1: I remember my wife the first time she went, I
- 59:33Speaker 1: think was a Super Bowl trip back in one, but
- 59:36Speaker 1: she couldn't believe that we got free Dunkin Donuts on
- 59:39Speaker 1: the bus and there was an escort, and like, we
- 59:41Speaker 1: just take that for granted.
- 59:42Speaker 4: The police escort is something. When I went on my
- 59:45Speaker 4: very first trip, I was like, Mom, Dad, we have
- 59:48Speaker 4: a police escort.
- 59:49Speaker 1: Look at I always myself wondering is this really necessary?
- 59:51Speaker 3: Yes, the time it's not, but there are times where
- 59:58Speaker 3: you need to get to the plane and it's it's money.
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: It's I just see the people who are like on
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: the on ramp and you see the state trooper like
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: holding everybody there and they must and it's never happened
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: to me, But you're sitting there like, what the hell's
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: going on?
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: And then you see like you're so close.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: It happened to me a couple of times with the
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: World Cup, you know, like the teams are coming to
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: the facility to get over to be practiced or something
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: and yeah and wait, it's just one mini we.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Got a game to get to.
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: I think the uh I think the the the cool
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: part too, is like people some people realize it's the
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: Patriots and they'll have like their phones, their their phones
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: out recording as the caravan and they like and they
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: get to they get to our bus and I'm like
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: they think that. I'm like Drake here and it's like it's.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: A great video.
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: You know, I don't want to be as the person
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: they come home and they're like, oh my god, you
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: got to see this. And then they're like look, look, look,
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: yeah it's the Patriots bus. To stick it in your face,
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: I hate that's my biggest pep. But you know, your phones,
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: don't get your phones in my face.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: Don't get fred don't ever do it.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: On Sunday nights, sometimes they don't have the police escort
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: because it's a Sunday night and it's late and they
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: think there'll be nobody on the road. And every once
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: in a while you get stuck in traffic and you
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: hear on the bus the groans of like no escort
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: like and it's like, how.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Spoiled are you spread? I'll never forget it was a
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: night game.
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: We got home.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: It's like two, three, four of them more I forget.
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: And I've never seen thicker fog.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: The bus driver we had, I think it was her
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: first time driving, and we're bus five, so we're the
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: last one, and she lost the rest of the convoy
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: and I hear them on the phone yelling at her,
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: you need to keep up, And I said to I said,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: don't worry about it. Just we're fine. We'll get there,
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: like there was no reason.
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: You couldn't.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: Go in front of you.
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: It was so thick.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: I'll never forget that trip.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Honey, you're doing frive.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: We're not greahound bus material. And then there was another one,
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: you know, telling a bus stories, But there was another one.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: We had a young kid, I think his first time
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: driving the Patriots, and he was a young guy and
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: for some reason he didn't get the memo that bus
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: five is the last bush and he starts racing the
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: other bus to get first. And I mean, we're going
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: up through Providence and he's going about eighty five in
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: this in this bus, this Plymouth bus, and one of
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: the doctors finally goes.
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: Gotta kill us.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: It was pan essential.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Oh my god, It's like, what is this guy? We
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: never saw him again?
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: I was.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: I was on that bus.
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: Nothing travel for you like the team charter, not like
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: you become the most spoiled traveler, Guilty as charged. It
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: just ruins you for life, like any commercial plane. I
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: was just thinking.
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: The last prem post game show was obviously the AFC
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: Championship game with that huge blizzard and then you know,
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: you guys all stayed here.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: But I remember driving home and then it was like
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: nobody on the roads. That was one of the craziest
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: at home. That was recent. I was like years ago
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: this champions because you.
- 1:03:02Speaker 8: Guys night right.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: D it was crazy.
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: I was lucky to get behind a plow and then
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: that kind of but I mean that was that that
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: the whole weather from last winter, and then the gun
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: of the combine.
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: It was he's a blizzard to the night. Endeavor was fantastic.
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: I wish we did that around. Like they just won
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: the AC Championship game, You're going to the super Bowl.
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: Everybody snowed in in the team hotel.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: It was really like the bus is leaving at eight
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: and if you ain't there the super Bowl.
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it was no curfew, Yeah it was. It was
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: a lot of fun.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: If you're not on it, you're not going to the
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: super Bowl. James is in Georgia. What's up, James? James
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: in Georgia. Jimmy, you're gone. You hang up and listen. Uh,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: Chad's in La, what's up?
- 1:03:53Speaker 17: Chad?
- 1:03:55Speaker 11: Hey?
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: How are you guys?
- 1:03:56Speaker 9: Put me in for a blueberry blueberry muffin on the
- 1:03:59Speaker 9: bake sale.
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: Okay, Okay, to raise money for the owners, Okay, make.
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: Sure exactly, Yeah, make sure the Raiders can make payroll.
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:04:09Speaker 9: I have a little grievance that I want to share,
- 1:04:12Speaker 9: And I'm just curious on what your take is on this.
- 1:04:16Speaker 9: So I always here. You know, we we go get
- 1:04:19Speaker 9: good players, you know that's most important. And you know
- 1:04:25Speaker 9: we have this chemistry, you know between May and Booty
- 1:04:28Speaker 9: and I'm just wondering where the conflict is in keeping him.
- 1:04:33Speaker 9: I mean, if it's working, why break that.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: He doesn't want to be here well, and they also
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: think they have a guy that's better than that.
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: I think, yeah, I think it's volume.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: It's yeah.
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: You know, he's in the last year of his contract.
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: He's going to be a free agent next year. And
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: if he's only going to get forty targets in New
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: England in a contract year because he's behind AJ Brown
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: and Romeo Dobs and Pop Douglas and he's the fourth
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: receiver here, or he can go someplace else and be
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: the number two receiver and get eighty eighty to one
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: hundred targets and then next offseason cash in on that.
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: From his perspective, I think that's where it's at. And
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: maybe he is better than Romeo Dobbs. I think at
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: times in practice he's looked better than Romeo Dobbs.
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: He might be a better pure receiver than Romeo Dobbs
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: in this offense, but he's gonna play the AJ Brown
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: spot more often than not. I'm not sure he's better
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: in the in where Romeo Dobbs generally lines up than
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: Romeo Dobbs. He might be a better X than Romeo Dobbs.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Is he is he in a tough tough spot, booty,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: because how many teams right now are looking for number
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: two outside receiver.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: Now Washington just signed Diggs. They were kind of like
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: the big team that was, you know, next to Terry McLaurin.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: I think teams like Carolina. You know, they have Coker,
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: who's a good player. They have ted obviously, you know,
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: but they they drafted my guy Brazl. Now he's out
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: for the season. Uh. San Francisco has injuries at wide receiver.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: Mike Devin everywhere only twenty only twenty Yeah.
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: So that you know substation, there's actually nothing that's coming
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: from that, right.
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: So was there any truth to the fact that Carolina
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: has one?
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: So they do they do have one, Yes, and some
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: of these injuries that they've had have been non contact
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: to like it's.
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: They do have one. But the one in San Francisco
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: that became such a story that John Lynch claims that
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: they hired a third party, a bunch of scientists to
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: do testing to make sure that it wasn't real. Even
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: though we were all it was. It was totally like
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: not real, and they claim it's not real.
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: I don't think but at a certain point when stuff
- 1:06:36Speaker 5: like this keeps happening like those, you feel like they're like,
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: we got to do something.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: Because in our head. Now it's not true, it's in
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: our head, like and every time someone gets just bad luck,
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: I mean we they NFL Twitter pressured the Diners into
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: having real scientists study the error over their practice fields
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: to make sure that they weren't getting injured players because
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: of this electrical substance.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: They're walking around with, Like the goes think about it.
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: I'm like, literally, they're wearing like hazmat suits. It's okay.
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: I did not know.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: I did not know any of this. I know about
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: the substation. I didn't know that the Niners had a
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: hire a company to conduct the story.
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: They claim that they have gotten people in there, and
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: they insist that there is no actual truth to it.
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: That is just a funny thing that fans are.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: I just I think there's another team.
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: It's it's hard to project booty into your offense, you know,
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: especially like I'm most like and like if you have
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: like Mac Jones, like you know, his best thing is
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: getting downfield and catching the deep ball, and so you know,
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: if you had a guy who can heave it and
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: you feel like, you know, that would give me confidence.
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: But bringing them in, you can't expect them to be
- 1:07:41Speaker 5: a high volume guy. You can't really expect to move
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: him around. But like Kansas City, I'd be interested.
- 1:07:47Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: I think that's the other problem too, is like Kansas
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: City Buffalo, I think there would be interest there. But like,
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: if you're the Patriots, do you really want to give
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: the chiefs a guy that can help them?
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: I mean, you know, this is my question though, did
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: the Patriots really care?
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: Like did they care?
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: Like, because it's all up to kash On Booty.
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: If kaish On Booty was unhappy and like you know,
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: we talk about he wants the targets and all that.
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: If he's here and he's playing, like.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: Why do they feel the need to get rid of him? Well,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: that he's going to be okay being number five, that's
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: kind of what chat limited.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: I don't think from a Patriots perspective, there is a
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: big deal. I think that this is all from Kaishon
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: And I'm not putting it like he's doing wrong. Yeah,
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: I'm just saying I think Karen Grigian had that he
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: requested a trade Kaishon Booty requested the track, right, so
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: like this is not I think the Patriots would love
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: to keep the embarrassment of Riches for as long as
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: they possibly can.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: If for nothing else insurance, you know, someone goes down.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: You have a guy that's.
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: Romeo Dobbs isn't as good as they thought he was
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: going to be in the offense or whatever. But this
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: is a Kaishan Booty problem that he doesn't see the
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: volume and the opportunity and chat.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Sorry, good, good question. I was going to say that
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: makes me feel a little better.
- 1:08:52Speaker 5: If if the Patriots are willing to keep them, then great,
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: And if it's Booty's decision, well that's his choice.
- 1:08:59Speaker 9: But uh, I'm glad that we're thinking the way that
- 1:09:03Speaker 9: this is just us.
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: Like we're advising.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: I have no idea what the Patriots are thinking.
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: Yeah, but they shouldn't and they shouldn't be worried about
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: his targets, you know, I mean keeping them happy is
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: like yeah, but yeah, just based off their actions, it
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: doesn't seem like they're in any huge rush to trade them.
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: They haven't yet, see.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: I mean I was struck today. It was a lot
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: of mac collins, you know, with that group. So I
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: don't know.
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: I think the Patriots are necessarily thinking in terms of
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: Booty having a significant role this year.
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: That's you know, one more thing too. Just not a
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: great probably time for Dobbs to miss a couple of days.
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: Like I feel like we've talked about him slow start,
- 1:09:41Speaker 5: felt like he was maybe coming on a little bit concerned.
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: And then he now he's missing practices, and I and
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: I started to making a you know, we're in a
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: small sea, concerned show. Everything is only a small seq.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: Let's see where we get maybe on Monday, because I
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: do think he was starting to show signs of picking
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: things up, looking a little bit more comfortable, and then
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: you know, he missed today's practice. I don't know, we'll see,
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: we'll see how long he's out. You know, they practice tomorrow,
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: then they get the weekend off, so I wouldn't be
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: surprised if he's not there tomorrow to see where we're
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: at Monday.
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: And I just feel like whenever they throw him the ball,
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: it just doesn't look doesn't look great. It's Paul's thing, Like,
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: it doesn't look great, it doesn't look right, like it
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: looks like Patriots plays, you know, like it does it
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: looks like you know, the throw is a little bit
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: off or you know he's not maybe head.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Well, Brendan Lloyd just made everything look impossible.
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: Yeah, just as one of those weird ones where like
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: you know, he'll run a curl and like the throw
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: will be like a little bit off and it's like, well,
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: was that just a bad throw or did he was
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: he in the wrong right place?
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: And this is why I say the Patriots plays, I've
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: watched these plays for a lot a lot of years,
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: and yes that's because you're old, Yes.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: Very much so.
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: And when they don't when, when that happens what Evans said,
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: I automatically say, the quarterback threw it where we're supposed to,
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: the receiver didn't catch except for one Mac Jones through it.
- 1:11:01Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: Cat is from Chicago. Is in Rhode Island? What's up? Cat?
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: You're here for the BTS concert? What's up?
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: Cat?
- 1:11:09Speaker 17: No, I'm here for you know, New England?
- 1:11:12Speaker 6: You enjoying it?
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: Are you in Newport?
- 1:11:15Speaker 17: How are you? How have you guys been well?
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: We miss you?
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Doing good?
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: You haven't been around.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: We actually went to a super Bowl this year. It's crazy.
- 1:11:22Speaker 17: I'm around, I'm listening. I'm just not able. To call
- 1:11:25Speaker 17: in most days, so you know, I'm I'm but I'm
- 1:11:28Speaker 17: on vacation this week.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: Cat has one of the great houses in Chicago.
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: She's done renovating. Yeah, Toby House.
- 1:11:35Speaker 17: No, I'm actually I'm actually in the middle of re renovating.
- 1:11:39Speaker 17: We bought the house next door and decided to add
- 1:11:41Speaker 17: it on We hired.
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: Money in Chicago on the podcast.
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, so yeah.
- 1:11:47Speaker 17: So so when you guys come to Chicago, whoever's coming
- 1:11:50Speaker 17: to Chicago, I want to set up a big dinner
- 1:11:52Speaker 17: if you're open to it, and take you guys out.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: If you know, Wednesday night dinner with Fred and Cat.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: Awesome. Awesome Wednesday night dinner.
- 1:12:01Speaker 17: Wednesday's perfect. I'll set something up.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: All right, So what's what's up?
- 1:12:07Speaker 17: Well, just I'm thinking I might come. I'm hoping I'll
- 1:12:09Speaker 17: make it down to practice tomorrow, which should be fun.
- 1:12:12Speaker 17: And yeah, I have a take on the Booty situation
- 1:12:15Speaker 17: where I think they're I mean, I don't see the
- 1:12:18Speaker 17: reason why you would trade him at this point. You
- 1:12:20Speaker 17: got to keep him, You play him early in the season,
- 1:12:23Speaker 17: and then you try to recoup some of that draft
- 1:12:25Speaker 17: capital that you lost in the Aj Brown deal. You know,
- 1:12:29Speaker 17: what I mean, you get, you keep him, somebody is
- 1:12:30Speaker 17: going to get injured for another team, There's going to
- 1:12:33Speaker 17: be some sort of situation where somebody is looking for,
- 1:12:36Speaker 17: you know, an additional wide receiver who can be a
- 1:12:38Speaker 17: deep threat, and then you keep them. And at that
- 1:12:41Speaker 17: point you're going to you're going to get a lot
- 1:12:43Speaker 17: more for him than you would right now in the
- 1:12:45Speaker 17: open market. And I think probably he understands that too.
- 1:12:48Speaker 17: You know, he'll find his new home. Somebody then will
- 1:12:50Speaker 17: give him a big deal, and it worked out for everybody.
- 1:12:53Speaker 17: So I hope that's what they're doing.
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: I think there is waiting out to see if someone
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: give him something like if he's on the team at
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: the beginning of the year. I don't know how he
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: increases his value not being a part of the offense.
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: If someone gets hurt here, I don't think he would play,
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: and based on practices, I don't think he'd play a lot.
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: I don't think he'd play a bit.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: I don't think he last year.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: I don't think so he played a lot last year.
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: I think he'd played probably like what Kyle Williams played
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: last year. You know that's I could see twenty But
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: I think the only thing is is like if you
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: get into the season and you know, same thing as
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: with training camp. You know, people get hurt, teams realize
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: we don't have enough like things like that, and maybe
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: at the deadline there's an urgency for a team that
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: gets desperate and makes that trade. I think that same
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: urgency might exist at the end of training camp. But
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: the difference is is that if you hold on to
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: Booty for the first eight or nine weeks of the
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: regular season, if something doesn't work out with somebody, if
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: someone gets hurt on your team, or Romeo Dobbs isn't
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: getting it or something like that, then you have Booty
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: in your back pocket. Like, I think that this is
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: one of those similar situations there. You know, I think
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: Belichick did this a lot, where you know, you held
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: onto the player until the last possible second.
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: You'll align.
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm pretty.
- 1:14:13Speaker 17: Worried about Dobbs. Dobbs to me does not check all
- 1:14:17Speaker 17: the boxes. So yeah, I don't know how you guys
- 1:14:20Speaker 17: feel about that. I have I've heard you say he's
- 1:14:22Speaker 17: not making much of a splash in training keep.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: No, he's been quiet, yeah, yeah, yeah, yep.
- 1:14:27Speaker 17: So I'm a little worried about that one. But you know, see,
- 1:14:30Speaker 17: I'm excited to get down there and see the team.
- 1:14:34Speaker 17: And if I see you guys out there, all stuff
- 1:14:36Speaker 17: by and stay high.
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: All right, Kat, see you tomorrow. Thanks for calling one
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: of the all time greats. Right there, you guys. Yep,
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: Kat in Chicago, O G O G.
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: Let's see Chris and North Carolina. I think our biggest
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: need is tight end and our deepest position is wide receiver.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: Why not in the off season have MATC. Collins boke
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: up ten to fifteen pounds and triumph the position. We
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: just he could be a mismatic annoy me.
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: I'm just reading.
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: Even if you both up ten fifty pounds, he's still
- 1:15:10Speaker 5: need to be small, a small title, a small tight end.
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: So I mean, you know, I'll just say the same
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: thing everything he's going to do some of those he's
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: going to do something in the slot. He's going to
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: block some guys and stuff like that. But he's probably
- 1:15:19Speaker 5: not going to put his hand in the dirt and
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: have to like just go one on one with the defensive.
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: Using the wide receiver as a tight end doesn't solve
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: your tight end problem. Like even if he is sort
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: of a de facto tight end, which I think he
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: is at times, and Evan talks about this incessantly.
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: Especially at red zone. You know, but it doesn't solve
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: your tight end problem.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: He boxed.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: If Hunter Henry goes, you have a tight end problem.
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: He box slot corners, safeties and linebackers. But he has
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: te next to his name. We like that more than
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: if he box slock corners, safeties and linebackers with the.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: Wr and trying to save you the prem.
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: Wait, we I keep repeating the same thing.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: I'll just make one quick point though. I mean, I
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: just Hunter Henry gets hurt.
- 1:15:58Speaker 5: They're in a position I don't remember the last time,
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: like they always had kind of some insurance for Gronk
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: Marty Bennett and you know they always the too well,
- 1:16:06Speaker 5: just throw them in the flames. But you know, I
- 1:16:08Speaker 5: just I think this is the thinnest that position's been
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: behind their numbers.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: Absolutely, we're not going to get thinn this year because

- 1:18:50Speaker 7: I think he just it's great for Will. He just
- 1:18:52Speaker 7: gets it.
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: Man.
- 1:18:53Speaker 7: I think he gets the you know what, you know
- 1:18:54Speaker 7: how to practice.
- 1:18:55Speaker 16: You know, he gets you having to come here and
- 1:18:56Speaker 16: show up every day because you know there's no days
- 1:18:58Speaker 16: off in this You go and practice league when you're
- 1:19:00Speaker 16: blocking guys one on ones and you got team next
- 1:19:03Speaker 16: and then we got two minutes. Like it's constant. And
- 1:19:05Speaker 16: I think that's what Will is understanding. You know, different
- 1:19:06Speaker 16: from college. You know, it's constant. You got to you
- 1:19:09Speaker 16: train your body and train your mind and you'll be
- 1:19:10Speaker 16: out here every day, each and every day and treat
- 1:19:12Speaker 16: it like, man, I gotta try to get better today.
- 1:19:13Speaker 16: And I think he's learned that really fast and I
- 1:19:15Speaker 16: think he's you know, taking it, You're taking a head
- 1:19:18Speaker 16: on and I'm looking forward to seeing you know him
- 1:19:19Speaker 16: this year do his thing.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: He started slow yesterday and then finished pretty strong.
- 1:19:24Speaker 7: What did you learn about the group yesterday?
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: And what is a strong finish like that do for you?
- 1:19:27Speaker 16: I think it's you know, you know, I hate to say,
- 1:19:29Speaker 16: but sometimes it's gonna happen, and we try to avoid
- 1:19:31Speaker 16: that as best I can. I can maybe do a
- 1:19:32Speaker 16: better job of starting us off faster, but no, you
- 1:19:34Speaker 16: gotta respond, you know. That's that's the that's the NFL,
- 1:19:36Speaker 16: that's life, you know, responding from times where you feel
- 1:19:38Speaker 16: like maybe lest some players out there, and we really
- 1:19:40Speaker 16: realize that it's self inflicted. So we got to take
- 1:19:42Speaker 16: care of our stuff. On offense, you'll be in the
- 1:19:44Speaker 16: right spot and takes all eleven of us. So just no,
- 1:19:46Speaker 16: the we're on the same page, really.
- 1:19:48Speaker 7: Strong, cancel far, he's going to involved, it's on the
- 1:19:50Speaker 7: trade rooms.
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: He's going to get your thoughts on that and whether
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: you'd like to see if you stick around this season.
- 1:19:55Speaker 16: I think just the way catch on the approach to him,
- 1:19:57Speaker 16: and he's here, he's here now, he's he he's where
- 1:19:59Speaker 16: his feet at and you know, I'm having fun throwing
- 1:20:01Speaker 16: him out there in practice. He's doing a great job
- 1:20:02Speaker 16: and he makes plays on the footballs in the air
- 1:20:04Speaker 16: and I think you can speak for that. That speaks
- 1:20:06Speaker 16: for itself. So I've had a lot of great times
- 1:20:09Speaker 16: with Kayshawn and I'm looking forward to you keep getting better.
- 1:20:10Speaker 7: Eatch you every day.
- 1:20:12Speaker 20: The phrase chemistry a lot the team has chemistry, A
- 1:20:14Speaker 20: quarterback has chemistry, or receivers.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: What's your definition of chemistry and do you have it
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: with your teammates.
- 1:20:20Speaker 7: I think chemistry is ongoing. I think there's different levels
- 1:20:22Speaker 7: to it.
- 1:20:23Speaker 16: I think there's times where you you try to, you know,
- 1:20:25Speaker 16: build it, and there's times where you try to you know,
- 1:20:27Speaker 16: maybe you feel like you can, you know, even reach
- 1:20:29Speaker 16: that next level. I think there's always, you know, ways
- 1:20:31Speaker 16: to improve with players. I think guys that are playing
- 1:20:33Speaker 16: for so long and you know whoever it was, Brady
- 1:20:36Speaker 16: and Gronk, I bet if you asked them, they'd still
- 1:20:38Speaker 16: say and you know, year seven and eight, they're still,
- 1:20:40Speaker 16: you know, building ways for their game. And I think
- 1:20:42Speaker 16: there's times where you know, you feel like you're in
- 1:20:44Speaker 16: a at a stage with a player for two or
- 1:20:46Speaker 16: three years with Hunter, and there's still times where me
- 1:20:48Speaker 16: and Hunter, you know, so thirty you're playing together that
- 1:20:50Speaker 16: we can still elevate our games and and kind of
- 1:20:52Speaker 16: you know, different looks. There's so many different routes and
- 1:20:54Speaker 16: so many different plays and looks where you can feel like, hey,
- 1:20:56Speaker 16: I understand what he's doing, what he's thinking, and we're
- 1:20:58Speaker 16: trying to react the same way to just heave With
- 1:21:00Speaker 16: Tom Brady, is there anything that you picked up when
- 1:21:02Speaker 16: it comes to the way that he used and manipulated tempo.
- 1:21:06Speaker 16: I think coach McDaniels is, you know, one of the
- 1:21:08Speaker 16: best about you know, kind of learning from it because
- 1:21:10Speaker 16: he's the one I was teaching it out there and
- 1:21:11Speaker 16: calling it. So I think just having you know, the
- 1:21:14Speaker 16: best thing is having you know what to do before
- 1:21:15Speaker 16: you snap it. I think, not snap it into a
- 1:21:17Speaker 16: bad look or just to play fast for no reason.
- 1:21:19Speaker 7: I think coach is great about, you know, making sure
- 1:21:21Speaker 7: we're in a good play.
- 1:21:22Speaker 16: I think that was one of the things you notice
- 1:21:23Speaker 16: when we're watching some of the tempo, to make sure
- 1:21:25Speaker 16: we have a good play and stay on track, because
- 1:21:27Speaker 16: you don't want to snap it fast and have incomplete
- 1:21:29Speaker 16: or a negative run. You want to kind of keep
- 1:21:31Speaker 16: the chains moving and keep it going to keep the
- 1:21:32Speaker 16: defense tired and on their heels. So that's the biggest
- 1:21:34Speaker 16: thing I noticed, is just kind of you know, keeping
- 1:21:36Speaker 16: the chains moving.
- 1:21:38Speaker 7: Contract negotiations and here to still be ongoing.
- 1:21:40Speaker 20: Here, You're you're a year from being in a similar
- 1:21:43Speaker 20: spot where you can negotiate a new deal. Does how
- 1:21:46Speaker 20: this has gone with him make you wonder at all
- 1:21:48Speaker 20: if you might have to wait for a new deal
- 1:21:51Speaker 20: from the Patriots.
- 1:21:52Speaker 16: I'm not thinking about that right now. I mean, I think,
- 1:21:54Speaker 16: you know, I'm you know, a big fan of Gonzo
- 1:21:56Speaker 16: and and kind of how things are playing out. So
- 1:21:58Speaker 16: I respect him for being out here and Pete and
- 1:22:00Speaker 16: one to practice. I think that speaks a lot for
- 1:22:02Speaker 16: you know, you know him wanted to be here, and
- 1:22:04Speaker 16: you know, I think, you know, like I said, he's
- 1:22:06Speaker 16: said before, he's one of the best Scorns in the league.
- 1:22:08Speaker 16: So I'm looking forward to, you know, playing with him,
- 1:22:10Speaker 16: and I'm glad he's on our team.
- 1:22:12Speaker 7: To think about, you know, your future and your long
- 1:22:15Speaker 7: term future and maybe being I don't think, you know,
- 1:22:18Speaker 7: I think it's hard to think about it. For me.
- 1:22:19Speaker 16: I try to be in the president, you know every day,
- 1:22:21Speaker 16: you know, the president. That's why they called a president.
- 1:22:23Speaker 16: Man's a gift. So I just try to, you know,
- 1:22:24Speaker 16: be here, be where my feet are, and try to
- 1:22:26Speaker 16: get better and better.
- 1:22:29Speaker 7: Talk more trash than the offensive. Is there someone on
- 1:22:32Speaker 7: the defensive side of the ball who gets after that?
- 1:22:34Speaker 16: We still just love talking football, you know, really respects
- 1:22:37Speaker 16: Ballane's you know, knowledge for the game. And you know,
- 1:22:39Speaker 16: I think he he loves you know, talking and he
- 1:22:42Speaker 16: loves seven on seven and trying to pick me off.
- 1:22:44Speaker 7: And I think he's a great player in this league.
- 1:22:47Speaker 16: And I think he's just shows up man and the
- 1:22:49Speaker 16: uh he has a few interceptions last year, but uh
- 1:22:52Speaker 16: on defense?
- 1:22:52Speaker 7: Who talks a lot on the field. That's a good question,
- 1:22:58Speaker 7: Charles Woods. Yeah, I'm not. They're outside.
- 1:23:00Speaker 16: Don't want to hear him as much. I hear Barmore
- 1:23:01Speaker 16: inside a little bit. Barbore will get riled up. I
- 1:23:04Speaker 16: like hearing Barmore talk. But you know, really, I think
- 1:23:06Speaker 16: all our guys got a little little stuff to him.
- 1:23:08Speaker 16: I think that's what you need in defense. You like
- 1:23:10Speaker 16: having hearing those guys and you know, I try to,
- 1:23:12Speaker 16: you know, be nice to them. But at the same time,
- 1:23:13Speaker 16: you got a little, you gotta have a little you'll
- 1:23:15Speaker 16: talk back because you know they respected. Your relationship with
- 1:23:18Speaker 16: Dared Wilson goes back to when he was almost a
- 1:23:20Speaker 16: college teammate.
- 1:23:21Speaker 7: So how does that kind of help you guys in
- 1:23:22Speaker 7: this transition with him? And so, yeah, I wanted to
- 1:23:24Speaker 7: play for him back in college.
- 1:23:26Speaker 16: He took his talents to a bigger, bigger dreams, So
- 1:23:29Speaker 16: you know, I can't blame him for that, but no,
- 1:23:30Speaker 16: I think he's done a great job of adapting. It's
- 1:23:32Speaker 16: you know, it's a lot more communication. You know, I
- 1:23:34Speaker 16: think he was one he was eager to get inside
- 1:23:36Speaker 16: and play center. So he's he's kind of learning the
- 1:23:38Speaker 16: kind of the senter he played in college. But in
- 1:23:40Speaker 16: the NFL, man, it's every day and you got to
- 1:23:42Speaker 16: be durable and you got to be you know, you know,
- 1:23:43Speaker 16: communication and little things like that. But he's doing a
- 1:23:46Speaker 16: great job and looking forward to kind of building you know,
- 1:23:48Speaker 16: center and quarterback.
- 1:23:49Speaker 7: Me, that's one of the biggest relationships on the field.
- 1:23:52Speaker 16: I'll talk a little bit with a guy like dogs
- 1:23:54Speaker 16: committed into our system and Josh's offense, Yeah, how much
- 1:23:57Speaker 16: you have to work with.
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: Him decision making the emakes how to get on that
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: same page as.
- 1:24:01Speaker 7: You go into this with a sense of Yeah, I
- 1:24:03Speaker 7: think he's a fast learner. That's the biggest thing. You know,
- 1:24:04Speaker 7: he's a fast learner.
- 1:24:05Speaker 16: So it's it's it's really easy for a good player
- 1:24:07Speaker 16: at the fast leunner to to kind of understand things.
- 1:24:09Speaker 16: And I think there's you're trying to overload them and
- 1:24:11Speaker 16: try to take it one thing at a time. But
- 1:24:13Speaker 16: at the same time, he feel like he's got, you know,
- 1:24:15Speaker 16: a great capacity for for knowledge of the game, you know,
- 1:24:17Speaker 16: knowledge of how he does things, and just like picking
- 1:24:19Speaker 16: his brain about how they did things maybe in Green Bay,
- 1:24:21Speaker 16: and try to say how are different, how are we similar,
- 1:24:23Speaker 16: and kind of how I see things. So he played
- 1:24:25Speaker 16: with a great quarterback there, and I think, you know,
- 1:24:27Speaker 16: trying to you know, like I said, build chemistry and
- 1:24:29Speaker 16: get on the same page and he'll make some great
- 1:24:30Speaker 16: plays for us.
- 1:24:32Speaker 4: Let fly against the different defense next morning.
- 1:24:35Speaker 16: Yeah, we were just talking in locker room and you
- 1:24:36Speaker 16: kind of get want to, you know, face somebody else,
- 1:24:38Speaker 16: but at the same time you got to you know,
- 1:24:40Speaker 16: not not shy away from trying to get better against
- 1:24:42Speaker 16: our defense, which is a great defense. So yeah, We're
- 1:24:44Speaker 16: looking forward against some more practice against us and then
- 1:24:46Speaker 16: obviously got you know, Indan Apples coming in, So looking
- 1:24:48Speaker 16: forward to you know, getting somebody else to hit.
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: You when it comes to you for the season again
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: and help much series again.
- 1:24:56Speaker 16: Yeah, no, I think you know, I haven't even heard,
- 1:24:58Speaker 16: so we haven't even talked about that. We're trying to
- 1:25:00Speaker 16: you'll stay focused on practice and you know what what
- 1:25:02Speaker 16: we did last year and maybe a little bit different
- 1:25:04Speaker 16: scheduled this year. But I'll be out there, you know,
- 1:25:07Speaker 16: if they want to be out there, I'll be out there.
- 1:25:08Speaker 16: So I'm not shign away from probably being out there.
- 1:25:11Speaker 7: And now great moments in built history.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: One o'clock on CBS, the one and one Bears are
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: at the oh to two.
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: Cults ind by one.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: Oh tough one?
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: Ah, what's that?
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: What's that really?
- 1:25:29Speaker 17: Though?
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: Fred? Well, they're minus two then plus two.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: Well there you go, tells you all the to know.
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: I don't know, I'm gonna go Cleveland at home.
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: No Indies plus one, they get three, so they're minus two.
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: They're at home, so they they get three, right, right,
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: So it's really like they're plus two.
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: They should be four.
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: So if you're getting three that means they're favored by one.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: They're not getting it.
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: They are get they're giving points. They're favored by one.
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: They didn't get the three.
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: If you couldn't follow the nonsensical three points for the home,
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: what would the spread be if it was neutral? Don't
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: bring me into this anyone for three?
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: Did you get three points at home? You would you
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: giving you plus three?
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: Plus two? If it was zero?
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: I thought you get three.
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: Three at home?
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: He says you get three. It's not it doesn't exist.
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: But he insists that you get three at home.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: It's a rule. So they're favored by one.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: Isn't three minus three zero?
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: So that would be you remind us seeing.
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: Three you said it was zero, that would be you gotta.
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: Hurry, We gotta I gotta hurry. That's another great moment
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: from and Costello. That was great. I don't know if
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: I've heard that one.
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: It's a rule.

- 1:27:20Speaker 1: That's right. Can I ask you a question real quick.
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: I'm in the market for a new refrigerator. Yeah, I
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: think we're gonna buy one. Any any tips on I
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: go with ge probably, you know, like it depends on
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: how many bells and whistles you want. I'd love to
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: have Crush Dice. I love Crush. Yeah.
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: So that's not like they have like smart refrigerators. Now,
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: I think that's Fred's talking.
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: We get smart.
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: I don't think you want that smart.
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: You know the LGDU have a lot of bells and whistles.
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I have a ge you know it's a double
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: door with the double door, that's what That's what my
- 1:27:55Speaker 5: dream is.
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: The thing, Crush Dice.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: I think we're gonna do.
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: It's tax free weekend this week, and so I think
- 1:28:01Speaker 5: we're going to make a make a purchase that we've
- 1:28:03Speaker 5: been dreaming about for a long time.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: You know, it's our ice machine just has never worked.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: I literally need to put like I have to.
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: Put a tray underneath the ice maker because it just
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: drips water down and it'll be like Game of Thrones
- 1:28:13Speaker 5: to the wall.
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: I have you checked the level on your on your
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: because sometimes when you have trouble with your ice maker,
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: it's because you're not level. Oh maybe it's old. It
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: was with the house when we bought it, so oh,
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: we got to get rid of this thing. But okay, yeah,
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: thank you. I appreciate that.
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: Why crushed ice, It's so good, right, crushed ice awesome?
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: Oh, crushed ice is the way to go.
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: Really, I'm not a going to ask. I'm not a
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: big ice guy.
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: You love Germany? Then in general, can I give you
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: some lukewarm water?
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: Because I like put my drinks in their fridge so
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: that they're cold, you know.
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: And I'm going to say, like the high Nuns with
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: the ice in them. I'm kind of a little bit
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: with Evan in that if I don't need ice, I'm
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: not going to have it because it dilutes the drink.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: But sometimes I think that's better.
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: Like I like a guy, like a like a watered
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: down a little bit of water, a little less sugary
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: little if I do have so fast?
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: What's that crushed ice dilute so fast?
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: It does?
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: So what are we talking about?
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: The Other thing is it's great if I.
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: Have a soda or whatever with ice in it. I
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: never ever drink through a straw.
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: Really about your teeth?
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't like drinking, and I'll tell
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: you why. Because when you drink through the straw, you're
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: drinking through the bottom. If you drink through the top,
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: you're filtering it through the ice, so it's colder and
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: it forces you to drink slower. Yeah, I mean I
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: think frosty mugs are too. Yeah, frosty could be why
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: why are okay? Because you're not gonna get.
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: The is a good one.
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: Frosted mugs are good for.
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: Fred and I ever tell you, See, these jokes are
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: as funny as they used to be. Fred, But Fred,
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: Fred and I ever tell you about one of the
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: Super Bowl parties in Indianapolis. We were at the Indy
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: five hundred oh nice at the track, it's a race track.
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: They had ice, beer, mugs. They were actually made out
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: of ice. They gave they gave everybody a glove, so
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: you had you had the glove on the on the
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: ice mug.
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: That now that's a cold beer. How much cold much?
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: That's a cold beer? Telling you that's a cold beer.
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: Sometimes your lip would get stuck.
- 1:30:18Speaker 4: This is too like, this is too many accidents waiting.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: It's like a Christmas story. And did you come to
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: the did you kiss the.
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: Yeah the bricks story?
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: Yea, drink the milk.
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: The great David Silverman took a picture of me doing that.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: Got the got the bald spot.
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: You didn't drink the milk, which is more than a
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: spot at the time, it was just a spot milk
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: didn't have milk.
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: No, we did not drink milk. Come on, I didn't
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: win anything.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: Only the winners drink milk.
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: You know you want it life.
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: The track was pretty cool.
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: It is. We went there year after the comment. We
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: didn't do the tour or anything. We just kind of
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: stopped there on the way to the airport and then we're.
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: Like, okay.
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: The only drawback was the welcome party was there and
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: party was there, so I get two different parties.
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 1:31:02Speaker 4: And you know the tower.
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: They set up a ciga BA on the tower up
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: in the Indie.
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: That's where Fred went with the Monkey MUCKs, the Cubans,
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: all the other vps.
- 1:31:12Speaker 4: That was I ran into.
- 1:31:13Speaker 5: When we were at our welcome party at the Super Bowl,
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: I ran into a friend of mine from high school
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: who apparently is very rich. But he was there as
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: you know, part of one of the season ticket holders,
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: and he's walking around with this little box and I'm.
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: Like, do you like a cigar?
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: And like he's like that, I guess, so you're that
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: rich you walk around a party with just your own
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: and you just give cubans.
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: He didn't say what.
- 1:31:32Speaker 4: I was like, I got to do radio tomorrow.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: I can smoke a scar right now, because I thought,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: you know what, you have.
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: To do radio tomorrow. The radio were radio, We're getting
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: ready tomorrow.
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: But when we were this was at the super Bowl
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: welcome party.
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: I understand, but you thought you were going to recover
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: the next day. Well, you've heard me lose my voice
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: before is last week. I don't know if I was sick.
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: I just lost my voice.
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: I was trying to hear, Okay, you have to drink
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: the tea like Bob so yes, so.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: It's cam Newton.
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: Town Patriot.
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: Scott love you, Bob, We do love Iconic.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: Scott has a little bit of a different opinion about Gonzales.
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: He says, until Gonzo proves he can stay healthy and
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: play an entire season, he doesn't deserve a new contract
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: or an extension.
- 1:32:24Speaker 4: Oh, he's played the majority of two seasons, right am?
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: I misremembering this? Last year?
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: Last year he missed the first three games. Yeah, but
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: like that's not like he you know, what did he
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: missed the year before?
- 1:32:39Speaker 5: Not then Many sixteen, he played within one game this game,
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: and he probably would have played if it wasn't a
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: meaningless game.
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: The first year, he missed most of the season.
- 1:32:50Speaker 4: Yes, Week four he went out the shoulder. But then
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: he played the whole next season at a pro bowl level.
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: That's what. That's a durability. Absolutely that counts that. The
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: guy's gotta you know, take I. I would kind of
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: put last year in the not sure how much of
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: an injury that was, but you know.
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: He was also like, you know, he missed three games
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: in September, like he was out. He was there for
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: every meaningful game.
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: Of the season of them, and I'm going to go,
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: you know, back to the literal, like we just look
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: at the school board. We don't analyze anything.
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: I'm going to say, yeah, he missed three games when
- 1:33:28Speaker 3: they went one and two, couldn't do the math good,
- 1:33:31Speaker 3: you know, so he's pretty valuable.
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: Good, pretty pretty valuable. Trent and silver Lake, thanks again
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: for the excellent coverage. Deuce. You might have been tracking
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: the wrong article of clothing. This is did you see
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: this article that came out about, uh, how pants coaches
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: pants affect.
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: I felt like he took pants.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: No, But basically, in a nutshell, if the coach comes
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: out with rain pants early in the game, rain pants,
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: rain pants, you know, or win pants, you know that
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: the weather is going to be a factor in the game.
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: Okay, yea, yeah, yeah, sure, yeah, he says, any analysis
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: for that.
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: Ryan Paganetti tweeted it out. Over fifteen seasons, Ryan found
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: sixty four games where at least one coach wore rain pants.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: The game finished under the over under in forty eight
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: of the games. That's seventy five percent of the time.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: Teams averaged fifty fewer passing yards in those rain games.
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: It's pretty simple watch the pregame sideline if you see
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: rain pants take me under for the passing game and
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: overall scoring this.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: Wow, yeah, I.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: Saw the tweet.
- 1:34:46Speaker 5: I started getting ice cream headache and I that's in
- 1:34:48Speaker 5: depth analysis right there.
- 1:34:50Speaker 4: So Ryan Pagnetti just started a Twitter account. He's somebody
- 1:34:54Speaker 4: that worked in NFL analytics departments, specifically for the Eagles
- 1:34:59Speaker 4: I believe for under Doug Peterson for a long time,
- 1:35:02Speaker 4: who were kind of at the forefront of the analytics movement.
- 1:35:06Speaker 4: I would say in a lot of ways.
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: Evan just answered a lot of questions for me because
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: this guy's starting to show up in my timeline, and
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: that was my questions, why is this guy in my timeline?
- 1:35:16Speaker 4: I actually think, though Paul, that he would be I
- 1:35:19Speaker 4: know you don't like guests, but I actually think that
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: he'd be a good guess because he did a lot
- 1:35:24Speaker 4: of like game situation stuff.
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: Yep, you know something very in depth that I would
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: love to And I'm dead serious, I wouldn't mind because
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: I think it's very easy.
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: Well, it's not easy.
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: It's a lot of work to compile the in depth stuff.
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: He had one that I saw in confirm. He had
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: one that I saw that was extremely deep dive into
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: the Brady Belichick Patriots in their propensity to run the
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: football in the last two minutes.
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: Of the first half.
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: Yes, that was interested they ran and I don't have
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: the numbers off the top of my head, but it
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: was something like they run the ball fifty eight percent
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: of the time in the last two minutes of the
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: first half. The rest of the league was like twenty
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: eight percent. Like it was an enormous gap between the two.
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: And obviously, you know, what's the outlier of the Patriots
- 1:36:11Speaker 3: win at a higher you know, Belichick, Brady, Can I
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: get a little context to that, Like, I'm sorry, Like
- 1:36:19Speaker 3: in David Andrews, this is probably why I showed up
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: because I followed David Andrews said, you know, always end
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: the half with the ball like that was, you know,
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: obviously one of Bill's mantras, you know, like, yeah, I agree.
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: Do you think the Patriots had the luxury of running
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: the ball at the end of the first half more
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: so than most other teams that played in the NFL
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: during the Belichick Brady hey day exactly because they were
- 1:36:41Speaker 3: in complete control of the game already.
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: Okay, but but I really liked what Andrews followed up with,
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: which was they really didn't go into like hurry up
- 1:36:50Speaker 4: to minute till about a minute and twenty seconds, so
- 1:36:53Speaker 4: they didn't. They made sure they ended the half with
- 1:36:55Speaker 4: the ball right, no doubt, so that they because they
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: wanted to milk clock before they really went into into
- 1:37:01Speaker 4: tempo to move the football quickly. So there was that,
- 1:37:06Speaker 4: and then he also Ryan was talking a lot about
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: the middle eight and the double score and you know,
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: winning the middle eight and things like that. This one
- 1:37:14Speaker 4: a lot of credit, which I think, you know, is
- 1:37:16Speaker 4: a discussion we've had many times, but it was really cool.
- 1:37:19Speaker 4: But what I aways really wanted to I think what
- 1:37:21Speaker 4: would be cool about him is that he would go
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: into like why they go for two down nine and
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: things like that that you can't stand, you know, and like,
- 1:37:30Speaker 4: you know, like yeah, because I think it's you know,
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: what's good about what Ryan's trying to do is I
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: think that the broadcast around the NFL, I don't think
- 1:37:41Speaker 4: do a great job of explaining how teams actually are
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: using analytics to drive decision making. And I think that
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: he is trying to have a smarter take on what
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: exactly is going into fourth down decisions and and a game.
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: You know, handling of ends of games and ends of
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: halfs and things like that, you know, we all find fascinating.
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: So I found one that so does every explanation end
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: with and then you know what you need.
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: Well, that's one that I think we could have a
- 1:38:08Speaker 4: conversation about.
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: I wouldn't in in all seriousness, I wouldn't mind having
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: a guy like that on the show, because I do
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: think those kinds of things are interesting, you know, game situations.
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: There was one that he actually he really took Rabel
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: and Company to task on last year about the end
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: of the first half of the Tampa game. We all
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: remember they ended up intentionally not scoring on first down
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: and then ended up with an incredibly high level of
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: difficulty fourth down conversion, unbelievable throw by Drake May, unbelievable
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: catch by Stefan Diggs to walk off a touchdown at
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: the end of the half, and he kind of mapped
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: out why the approach was extremely risky.
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: I thought you were talking about the Super Bowl.
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: He's also talked about the two point conversion mess up,
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: which I was on that livet I bought my wife,
- 1:38:58Speaker 3: I bought I brought my wife to tears at out
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: one life.
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: But the running the ball at the end of the half.
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: Another thing the Patriots did, Fred, You'll remember this constantly,
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: is they would get the ball in those situations and
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: they would spread out like four and five, you know,
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: four wide, and run a draw, not necessarily to kill clock.
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: But they're looking to get like twelve yards. They're not
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: looking for three yards and a cloud of dust. They're
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: looking to gash you. They're looking to catch you in
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: light personnel with six guys in the box, and they're
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: gonna run it at you, and they're gonna get a
- 1:39:33Speaker 3: cheap first down to kick start the two minute drill. Again,
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: it counts as a run, but it wasn't necessarily a
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: kill wig killing clock. That's why, yes, I can put
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: all these things here in a column, Like do you
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: think if the Cleveland Browns decided in the last two
- 1:39:49Speaker 3: minutes of every game during that time to just run
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: the ball, they would have won the same amount of
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: times as the Patriots did, because when they got the
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: ball in the last two minutes of the first half,
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: they were down twenty one to three, I'm dead serious,
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: were in control so many What was the record when
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: winning at halftime under Brady.
- 1:40:06Speaker 5: Was they were like they were losing going into the
- 1:40:08Speaker 5: fourth quarter. They had a winning record, but like going
- 1:40:11Speaker 5: into half time, you.
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: Win the game.
- 1:40:15Speaker 5: The funniest thing about this to me, though, is that
- 1:40:16Speaker 5: I saw this tweet and I'm bummed that I didn't
- 1:40:18Speaker 5: bring it up because exactly what you've just been saying
- 1:40:20Speaker 5: is exactly what Like the little Paul.
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: On my shoulder was going like, oh, do you think
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: that might have been?
- 1:40:24Speaker 4: Because I had Tom Brady just just.
- 1:40:28Speaker 3: But just to be clear, You're right this guy and
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: I didn't know him, and I'm glad Evan had a
- 1:40:33Speaker 3: background with the guy and knew who he was. Incredible,
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: like incredibly detailed, in depth stats pack. I read like
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: three different things that he did. I'm sure I missed
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: a million others, but I'm not dismissing the tweets.
- 1:40:48Speaker 4: It's right up Paul's alley.
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: It is right. It's something I'm very interested in.
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: I just think that the whether we like it or not,
- 1:40:56Speaker 4: or people like it or not, these equations are driving
- 1:40:59Speaker 4: decision making in the NFL, just like it's their driving
- 1:41:02Speaker 4: decision making in the NBA. In the NFL and the MLB,
- 1:41:06Speaker 4: all the other sports, And so if teams are going
- 1:41:09Speaker 4: to follow these things and this is how teams are
- 1:41:11Speaker 4: going to make decisions, then I'm glad that people like
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: Ryan are going to try to explain why they're making
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: those decisions, because I don't think the I think the
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: broadcasts are completely lost as to like why they're doing
- 1:41:23Speaker 4: these things, and they just go, oh, that's what the
- 1:41:25Speaker 4: analytics say, you know, and it's just that he's.
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: Right about that. That's the crutch. So the analytics say
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: to go for.
- 1:41:32Speaker 4: It, right, So well, why whether or not you like it,
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: if the nerds are the ones that are driving the decisions,
- 1:41:38Speaker 4: and at least we should be educated on why they're
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: making those decisions. I give it.
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: One last thing that I'll tell you the Patriots had
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: to have led the history of football in is that
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: you run on the play before the two minute warning.
- 1:41:52Speaker 3: Like that was a Charlie Weiss staple, like we're going
- 1:41:55Speaker 3: to run the ball with two oh six in a
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: running clock. We're going to run the ball hit there, yeah,
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: because clocks going to stop anyway, and we're going to
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: see if we can get a cheap ten yards When
- 1:42:03Speaker 3: they're playing pass.
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: Off topic Bobby from Squanting them writes. In just a
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: quick correction to Tuesday show, Matt said that Misery was
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: the name of Kathy Bates' character. That isn't correct. In
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: the movie, James Kahn plays an author who was famous
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: for a series of books featuring a main.
- 1:42:23Speaker 4: Character named Misery.
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: That's what said.
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: Kathy Bates' character, whose name.
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: Is Ann Wills, was the character of the book, right.
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: I thought he said it was the name of any.
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: I don't think he I mean, maybe he did, but
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: I thought he said it was the name of it
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: because I said, I said, I think the main character
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: in the book was Misery, like that was the book.
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: Her name was Misery, And that's what I thought, Matt
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: said when he looked it up, he didn't.
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: I thought he was referring to Kathy Bates.
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: You are correct, Yes, that's what I thought, Matt said.
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: Okay, David new Hampshire wants to know about Paul's crush.
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: How's Marcus Jones doing in camp? We haven't heard much
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: about him.
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: Not great, no pick today.
- 1:43:04Speaker 3: He did have a and it was a really good
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: pick too, But I think tomorrow Douglas has controlled him
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: in this camp most most times that they've targeted Douglas
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: on Jones, Douglas is won.
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I always give like that a little bit of
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: of a past just because of how hard it is
- 1:43:24Speaker 4: to cover tough job slot receivers and practices where you're
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: not trying to hurt not that everybody, anybody's ever trying
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: to hurt anybody, but you know what I mean, not
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: trying to be physical with the as physical player. So
- 1:43:38Speaker 4: like when the little slot receivers running over the middle
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: of the field and there's no threat that anybody's going
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: to hit them, it's a lot different than in the
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: game than when you know you have the same situation.
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: And I would agree.
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: I wanted to show you how Faia I can be Mike.
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: A lot of tomorrow Douglas catches have been shallow crosses
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: like what I sort of was critical of and chisholm on. Now,
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: that doesn't mean that he hasn't been winning the one
- 1:44:06Speaker 3: on one battles, because I think he has. But in fairness,
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: he's not like torching him downfield for.
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: These huge plays. He's beating him on crossers and evans.
- 1:44:14Speaker 3: Right, when you don't have that fear of getting your
- 1:44:16Speaker 3: clock cleaned, it's a little easier to complete those.
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: I love Marcus Jones.
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: I still it's just striking to me his size out
- 1:44:22Speaker 5: there and the role that they have him playing in
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: the inside, and I mean, he was great last year tackling,
- 1:44:26Speaker 5: and I just hope that he can continue to hold
- 1:44:29Speaker 5: up because really, I think you ideally like somebody a
- 1:44:31Speaker 5: little bit bigger to play as much as you know
- 1:44:34Speaker 5: he's going to play.
- 1:44:35Speaker 4: I think they like they kind of talked about that
- 1:44:37Speaker 4: a little bit when Rabel first got hired, and I
- 1:44:39Speaker 4: think he's just such a good player that they just
- 1:44:42Speaker 4: kind of were like, Nope, we're going to make this
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: work because that's the player we have, and he's really
- 1:44:47Speaker 4: really good. Because I think when they first hired Vrabel,
- 1:44:50Speaker 4: there was a lot of talk about is Marcus Jones
- 1:44:52Speaker 4: really a fit because of his size, and then he
- 1:44:55Speaker 4: just played so well that it kind of.
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: Because he is Rabel's style.
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: He might not be the prototype in terms of size,
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: but the way he plays the run, in his physical
- 1:45:04Speaker 3: at the point of attack.
- 1:45:05Speaker 5: Like good football player, freaking hit Madison Peers, I'd say
- 1:45:09Speaker 5: pretty good.
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: Gumby is from Germany on the line. What's up, Gumby,
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: how's it going good?
- 1:45:17Speaker 6: First time I've ever listened live and been able to call,
- 1:45:19Speaker 6: so I appreciate y'all if I can. I wanted to
- 1:45:24Speaker 6: ask a questions about Campbell and Wilson going back to
- 1:45:26Speaker 6: the Super Bowl, but I want to give you too
- 1:45:28Speaker 6: quick hits out first, first to shout out to ianpats
- 1:45:35Speaker 6: fans dot com best message board on the planet.
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: I agree.
- 1:45:39Speaker 6: And then Fred, your understanding of thermodynamics is a little bit.
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: Off my understanding of thermo dynamics. I don't understand thermo dynamics, so.
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: I think you might have been talking about your straw theory.
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: Oh straw so not to be confused with string theory,
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: so you don't.
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: Okay, Well it works, it works for me.
- 1:45:59Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:46:01Speaker 6: Well, I think with the small volume size of a cup,
- 1:46:05Speaker 6: it really doesn't matter much. But technically it's colder at
- 1:46:08Speaker 6: the bottom.
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: Well I know that cold, you know, heat rises, cold
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: goes down. But when the top of the glass is
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: full of ice, I think thermo dynamics kind of doesn't
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: come into play there.
- 1:46:21Speaker 3: I will say that drinking out of the straw makes
- 1:46:23Speaker 3: you drink faster. Yeah, that I would agree with you on. Yeah,
- 1:46:27Speaker 3: that's why I don't drink out of the straw.
- 1:46:30Speaker 6: Okay, So my real question was, We've had a lot
- 1:46:34Speaker 6: of talk and a lot of postings on boards about
- 1:46:36Speaker 6: Campbell and Wilson's being hurt back in the Super Bowl,
- 1:46:40Speaker 6: but nobody ever talks about the thing that I think
- 1:46:43Speaker 6: is fifty percent of the problem back then was the
- 1:46:45Speaker 6: rookie wall. Seventeen games plus all the the playoff games.
- 1:46:52Speaker 6: I think they were just wore out. And so your
- 1:46:56Speaker 6: thoughts on that, and then thoughts on who's the we
- 1:47:00Speaker 6: need to pay attention to visit akis in this season?
- 1:47:04Speaker 6: What rookies this year do we need to watch out
- 1:47:06Speaker 6: for the rookie wall?
- 1:47:07Speaker 4: For the rookie wall? Many of them this year enough,
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: you know.
- 1:47:12Speaker 3: And I don't think it was a huge deal for
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: those two linemen because they missed games. They you know,
- 1:47:17Speaker 3: Campbell missed four games heading into the playoffs, so he
- 1:47:21Speaker 3: should have been a little bit fresher. I think physically,
- 1:47:24Speaker 3: I think the knee was a problem for him, but
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: I don't necessarily think he was tired.
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: And Wilson I think, I think, right, but he was
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: healthy going to the playoffs, right.
- 1:47:32Speaker 4: Yeah, No, Wilson was healthy. I think with Wilson, I.
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: Don't think Wilson was an injury issue in the Super Bowl.
- 1:47:36Speaker 4: Now Wilson, I think it was more maybe playing out
- 1:47:39Speaker 4: a position, and they're hoping that him playing center is
- 1:47:42Speaker 4: is gonna make him a better player. I've been really
- 1:47:46Speaker 4: excited about what I've seen out of Campbell, but you know,
- 1:47:49Speaker 4: I put the caveat of the edge rushers he's facing
- 1:47:52Speaker 4: in practice. I think he's going to face better competition
- 1:47:55Speaker 4: on other teams. But I've been really excited about I
- 1:47:59Speaker 4: feel like he has more variety in his past set,
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: so he's not as predictable. And so something I was
- 1:48:05Speaker 4: talking to Brandon Swinson was talking after practice, and I
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: asked him about Caleb Blomo, and he said, you know,
- 1:48:10Speaker 4: in college, like you kind of see a lot of
- 1:48:13Speaker 4: the same things, like guys don't have like deep toolboxes
- 1:48:17Speaker 4: in like different things. And then you get to the
- 1:48:19Speaker 4: pros and like every pass rusher has like three or
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: four really good moves instead of like one or two
- 1:48:24Speaker 4: really good moves. And I think with Campbell, I've seen
- 1:48:27Speaker 4: him be more aggressive. I've seen him close down space
- 1:48:30Speaker 4: between him and rushers. I've seen him get his hands
- 1:48:32Speaker 4: on guys faster, and then also still vertical set, but
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: at least have other change ups within his arsenal. So
- 1:48:38Speaker 4: I think he's definitely was working this offseason. I hope
- 1:48:41Speaker 4: whatever held him out of practice today is And.
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: What's the super weare that he was at Lane Johnson's
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: place and the world's Strongest man was there and you know,
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: kind of insinuating maybe he did some special work to
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: gain some strength.
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: Yeah, so he said with the world's strongest man thing
- 1:48:59Speaker 4: that they just were out like it wasn't anything like
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: he he kind of downplayed that, but he was with
- 1:49:04Speaker 4: Lane Johnson, Tristan Wharfs and Dion Dawkins, uh and you know,
- 1:49:08Speaker 4: probably three of the best five tackles in the sport,
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: and they they were just talking, talking ball and training
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: and stuff like that. And hopefully that how that came about.
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: I think that Lane Johnson reached out to him.
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: Oh so this is another thing that you like, Lane Johnson.
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: Now we're having fun.
- 1:49:27Speaker 4: So this is another thing that I would say that's
- 1:49:29Speaker 4: like probably just a me thing because it's the offensive line.
- 1:49:32Speaker 4: But so many of the people in the offensive line
- 1:49:35Speaker 4: community have said, like, can't like give him him to me?
- 1:49:41Speaker 4: You know, like so many guys think that they like
- 1:49:44Speaker 4: feel like there's ways to get him better than what
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: he played in the playoffs beyond just the injury. Uh,
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: you know, whether it was Lane Johnson or Tron Armstead
- 1:49:55Speaker 4: or whoever. Like the old line community kind of said,
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: like rallied around him after that playoff performance and was like, no,
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: like he's got things that he can work on that
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: if he gets better at with his technique, that he's
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: going to be just fine. And that gave me a
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: lot of like confidence that I think, you know, maybe
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: this can be rectified from what he was in the Playoffsky.
- 1:50:17Speaker 3: All right, And I don't know if we we mentioned
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: I know we did in our podcast to wrap up
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: today's camp practice, but on this show if we talked
- 1:50:25Speaker 3: about with Evan just sort of mentioned there that Will
- 1:50:28Speaker 3: Campbell didn't take part in any of the teamwork today.
- 1:50:31Speaker 3: He had a brace on his left elbow, did a
- 1:50:35Speaker 3: lot of running conditioning on the side on the left field,
- 1:50:38Speaker 3: while all the sort of work with the eleven on
- 1:50:40Speaker 3: eleven's was going on the right side, and Marcus Bryant
- 1:50:43Speaker 3: played left tackle.
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: Lomu stayed at right tackle with the twos, which which
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: I found surprising. Has been scanning Twitter a little bit
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: and a lot of people are like, kind.
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: Of a lot of people have raised eyebrow.
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: We have already started. I had noticed that as well. Yeah,
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: I knew that that might be something.
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: And then that's why I think it was the right
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: move by the coaches to do what they did, because
- 1:51:03Speaker 3: I think if they had put.
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: Lomu at left tackle, it'd be even bigger.
- 1:51:07Speaker 5: Yeah, Wally Pip, Well, I mean, like, I just I
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: think my point of view is just that they don't
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: want to overwhelm him right now, and the high level
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: reps are going on the right side, and you want
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: to get Lomu ready because he's going to have to
- 1:51:19Speaker 5: probably play some right tackle and some jumbo tight end.
- 1:51:22Speaker 5: And if we start giving him high level reps with
- 1:51:24Speaker 5: the ones too, now you're overloading this kid's plate. Who Like,
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: let's be honest, he's got a lot of work to do.
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: Like he's you know, he's he's a work in progress.
- 1:51:32Speaker 5: He's young, he's a little bit of a ball of clay.
- 1:51:34Speaker 5: So I you know, it's just one of those things
- 1:51:36Speaker 5: where like all of a sudden, you're like, oh, people
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: are mad about this, Like I don't really I don't.
- 1:51:39Speaker 4: Know if they're mad about it, but I think it
- 1:51:41Speaker 4: is interesting that Marcus Bryant got the reps over him.
- 1:51:44Speaker 4: There was no Campbell. I mean, you think the first
- 1:51:48Speaker 4: round pick guy you just drafted twenty eighth overall to
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: play tackle.
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: But I think you guys are on it.
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: Disrupt the learning curve.
- 1:51:55Speaker 2: Yeah, he has to learn the right side right, not
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: the left side, and he's.
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: Still getting some low level left tackle reps right right,
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: But keep sharp.
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: No, I think you're right. I just I understand why
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: people reacted that way. I would also hope that they
- 1:52:08Speaker 4: could parse like I think Campbell has been really really
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: good all summer and like to think that just one
- 1:52:13Speaker 4: practice because Campbell was hurt. You know me, I don't
- 1:52:16Speaker 4: watch like I think. I would like to think that
- 1:52:19Speaker 4: the scribes would be able to be like, this isn't
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: like a competition all of a sudden because Campbell is
- 1:52:24Speaker 4: banged up, Because there's no doubt that Campbell has been
- 1:52:26Speaker 4: better than Lomu in this in this can so I
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: don't think. Yeah, I don't know how you would get
- 1:52:33Speaker 4: to that. I think that's that's a big leap.
- 1:52:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I caught one rep I think against Akis with
- 1:52:37Speaker 5: Lomu today. V I don't know if you were locked
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: on them, but it looked Lomo was all over the place.
- 1:52:41Speaker 3: I thought Lomu controlled him on back to back place
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: today and I was like, oh, okay, I see it.
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: I see the first round, like why do you put
- 1:52:48Speaker 3: him on the ground, And the.
- 1:52:49Speaker 5: Next play he just locked him on team period. Yeah,
- 1:52:52Speaker 5: both in both in team he got him with toos
- 1:52:54Speaker 5: with the twos.
- 1:52:55Speaker 4: Yeah, Acus got him with the ghosts the speed rush
- 1:52:58Speaker 4: on early on in practice and then as really got
- 1:53:01Speaker 4: Demetrius crown over on the pick that DeVito through at
- 1:53:04Speaker 4: in the two minute at the end, he was right
- 1:53:06Speaker 4: in his face. But I think him and love MoU
- 1:53:08Speaker 4: have had some pretty good back and forth as you
- 1:53:10Speaker 4: would expect.
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: You know, Eldred's in North Carolina. What's up Eldred? Right? Hey?
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: Back on the road.
- 1:53:19Speaker 8: Oh yeah, back into them in my element again. Hey,
- 1:53:22Speaker 8: I got a question. I listened to Tuesday show and
- 1:53:26Speaker 8: everybody was like down on Kyle William and I just
- 1:53:30Speaker 8: got one question. Okay, and Evan, don't get too mad
- 1:53:34Speaker 8: at me. Mad when after your boy? Going after your
- 1:53:37Speaker 8: boy could have problem beat Drake mate like not judging
- 1:53:42Speaker 8: to speak because he ain't that much to work with him,
- 1:53:44Speaker 8: but with coming DeVito and with anybody else getting him,
- 1:53:46Speaker 8: and he's burning people. You know, Could it be Drake?
- 1:53:49Speaker 8: You just ain't comfortable with him yet, like he like
- 1:53:52Speaker 8: he ain't with Dobbs.
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: Maybe. I mean, I've seen them both uh deep passes.
- 1:53:59Speaker 4: I think I'm just trying to give Kyle Williams some
- 1:54:01Speaker 4: grace because I know he's, you know, a guy that
- 1:54:04Speaker 4: we're all hoping is gonna emerge at some point. I
- 1:54:07Speaker 4: think all I think both quarterbacks have have underthrown him
- 1:54:11Speaker 4: at times. I don't think it was just isolated to Drake.
- 1:54:16Speaker 8: Well okay, but mostly most of the camp I've been
- 1:54:18Speaker 8: here and they saying, you know, he's scheduled dubdo you know?
- 1:54:21Speaker 8: And then that one that Pettis stepped in front of
- 1:54:24Speaker 8: like three yards short, and he was in front him
- 1:54:26Speaker 8: by three yards even though Gunnard whatever his name is,
- 1:54:30Speaker 8: he mentioned that too. So I'm like, well, maybe just
- 1:54:33Speaker 8: under inestimating speed or whatever. You just ain't used to
- 1:54:36Speaker 8: him yet. But I'm pretty sure they get on the
- 1:54:38Speaker 8: same pace.
- 1:54:39Speaker 14: Soon or later.
- 1:54:39Speaker 8: And I'm still saying fourteen and three, okay, Gonna.
- 1:54:42Speaker 10: Stick with that.
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: Fourteen three says Aldred, all right, all right, thanks for
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: the call. Uh. Speaking of predictions, James Petti Grew, the
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: most interesting Patriots fan of the world, says, I'm personally
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: very high on Dobbs the reason no one else is,
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: and I want to appear as a ball nowhere to
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: lead the Patriots and touch shows this season book it
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: Mark tape. Yeah, I mean, I think he's just being starcastic.
- 1:55:04Speaker 5: I mean I get I get what the guys are
- 1:55:06Speaker 5: talking about. I also think that like the place I
- 1:55:09Speaker 5: feel okay about him is like in the red zones.
- 1:55:11Speaker 5: I think he's got hands and there's not really a
- 1:55:13Speaker 5: lot of space where he's got to get away from people,
- 1:55:15Speaker 5: Like you know, I think those are some of the
- 1:55:16Speaker 5: plays that have stood out to me, or just him
- 1:55:18Speaker 5: making grabs in the end zone. But I agree with
- 1:55:21Speaker 5: the middle of the field take with the guys that
- 1:55:24Speaker 5: you know, it's just he's just not a smooth, easy athlete.
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: And that doesn't mean he can't be good. But sometimes
- 1:55:29Speaker 5: you get these guys and I feel like you're like,
- 1:55:31Speaker 5: we're gonna have to wait to see games with this guy,
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: and that's kind of where we're headed with him.
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: But I think him a four year deal.
- 1:55:36Speaker 5: You know, I would think that there's gonna be a
- 1:55:37Speaker 5: little bit of a you know, a landing, you know,
- 1:55:40Speaker 5: pad for him to get things together.
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: I don't think he's you know, it might take some time.
- 1:55:45Speaker 4: I think he's just different. He just moves different than Diggs,
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: significantly different. Yeah, and so like he's more I think
- 1:55:54Speaker 4: Dobbs is more of like a traditional route runner where
- 1:55:58Speaker 4: it's like more linear and and digs. It was just
- 1:56:01Speaker 4: like very unique in the way that he ran routes.
- 1:56:04Speaker 4: It kind of reminded me of Edelman a lot, like
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: those two guys, just like the way they stem guys,
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: the way that they set up defensive backs, the way
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: they kind of just like color outside the lines but
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: inside the lines. Like it's just a different type of
- 1:56:16Speaker 4: route running. And Dobbs I think is more of like
- 1:56:20Speaker 4: a typical traditional receiver, so it maybe is less like
- 1:56:25Speaker 4: about him and more you know, I think the role
- 1:56:28Speaker 4: is going to be a little bit different than what
- 1:56:30Speaker 4: you envision with Diggs because of that, Like if you're
- 1:56:32Speaker 4: gonna put him inside the formation and kind of just
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: expect him to survey and just kind of get open
- 1:56:37Speaker 4: in the middle of the field on his own, I
- 1:56:39Speaker 4: don't know if he's really that kind of kind of player.
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: All Right, we'll end the show with a question. Brendon
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: wants to know how close Landry is to coming back.
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: Badard said he was visibly favoring his left leg today.
- 1:56:52Speaker 4: He was watching and Rabel did mention that as guys
- 1:56:55Speaker 4: get closer, he has them watch practice. So Accus started
- 1:57:01Speaker 4: watching practice and then all of a sudden was back.
- 1:57:04Speaker 4: So maybe a good sign that he's at least up
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: there watching.
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: I mean, I've seen him a little bit on the
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: lower hill, and he doesn't I haven't noticed a noticeable limp.
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: I haven't seen that.
- 1:57:13Speaker 4: I'm not a big limp person, Like, I'm not good
- 1:57:15Speaker 4: at that. I don't want to.
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: Teach a wise thing, right, like they all kind of
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: walk weird sometimes.
- 1:57:19Speaker 4: I don't want to like be the guy that's trying
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: to judge people's gates and limps and stuff, because I
- 1:57:25Speaker 4: don't know. I'm not a doctor, like.
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: I mean, I just I don't think they be. I
- 1:57:28Speaker 5: don't know if you're still limping, I don't know if
- 1:57:30Speaker 5: you should be on the field working out.
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: But okay, was he working out?
- 1:57:34Speaker 5: I mean they just, you know, the lower field guys
- 1:57:36Speaker 5: go through drills and you know it's I mean, nothing extensive,
- 1:57:39Speaker 5: but more.
- 1:57:40Speaker 4: I'm more like, what's going on with Carlon Davis, Like
- 1:57:44Speaker 4: tomorrow morning we talked to Rabel. I'm more hopefully one
- 1:57:47Speaker 4: of the Jay's like kind of is like goose is
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: them a little bit? Is this going to be all right?
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: Full week here?
- 1:57:53Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:57:53Speaker 2: Seven that's seven practices that he's missed.
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: It's like Gonzalez last year. It was like, you know,
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: Pats came on and cornerback went out. All right, that's
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: gonna be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. They
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: have a Blue White scrimmage tomorrow right, which I don't
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: know if that's gonna be full pads or not, but
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: we'll have in from on that on Patriots dot com
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: at Patriots Social uh. And then next week reminder the
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: cults are in town. We'll have the joint practice on Tuesday.
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: We'll be live for that. What time does that start?
- 1:58:26Speaker 4: Do we know? I think it's.
- 1:58:29Speaker 2: I believe so we want to start at ten.
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll start at ten on Tuesday. And then first
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: preseason game. Paul's in the Bob's Discount Furniture Studio. So
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: that's Thursday night.
- 1:58:41Speaker 5: In the new next week and the new look pre
- 1:58:43Speaker 5: postgame show a special new panelist style.
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: Don't want to give it away yet just yet, but
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: you might want to tune in for that pregame show.
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: All right, we will talk to you. We'll see you
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: next Tuesday. Hey, this is deuced. Thanks for tuning into
