- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning standing here overlooking all
- 0:32the seedlings that are getting ready to go out into the main
- 0:35garden. And I could not be more excited
- 0:38for them because it is getting warmer and they're going to be
- 0:41able to go out with these overnight temperatures soon.
- 0:43And oh, it's just fantastic. Now with that being said, I
- 0:48today's conversation is all about the fact that we are
- 0:52constantly confronted with the undiscovered territory of every
- 0:58single day, meaning we don't know what we're going to run
- 1:00into. We have no idea.
- 1:02The uncertainty each day brings us is often something that is it
- 1:08plagues us is the best word to say.
- 1:10There is a constant and never ending plague of uncertainty
- 1:13that comes over us. And as I stand here and start to
- 1:17contemplate, OK, when are they going to go out?
- 1:20Where are they going to go? How is it going to go?
- 1:22I have that overwhelming excitement that can show up in
- 1:27this process. At the same time, I'm
- 1:28overwhelmed with the nervousness of like, oh, I'm going to put
- 1:32them out there. And you know, what if I miss the
- 1:34time? What if I miss it by a week?
- 1:36What if I'm early and all of a sudden I put them out and
- 1:39something happens? And every year this happens.
- 1:43Not to mention throughout, you know, the course of the spring
- 1:47and into the summer, here I am growing and you are constantly
- 1:51watching the weather. You have you, you become a
- 1:54meteorologist. You're looking at things and
- 1:56trying to judge, is this going to be wind damage?
- 1:59Am I going to have this? So you know, am I going to be
- 2:03able to harvest? I don't know what will happen
- 2:06with all of the vegetables. Like what happened last year
- 2:09when we had literally had a plague with the tomatoes and
- 2:12they were dying. Each day another plant would
- 2:14just die perfectly healthy the night before and then die.
- 2:18And the level of certainty that human beings need is confronted
- 2:23with this uncertainty every single day.
- 2:26You, you start to find yourself going down a rabbit hole of
- 2:29nervousness. You're, you used to start to not
- 2:32enjoy the thing that you enjoy the most, which is doing
- 2:35something like growing. And I'm speaking for myself
- 2:37here. Maybe you're having this exact
- 2:40same thing happen in something else.
- 2:42And, and it doesn't matter because we all have it.
- 2:45Living life is learning that this is part of the path and
- 2:50accepting that no matter how much you plan, no matter how
- 2:53much you set things up, there will be drama that will show up
- 2:58in every situation and you will have to deal with it.
- 3:01And it it has to be part of your knowing, but it doesn't have to
- 3:06steal your joy. And the hard part is not letting
- 3:10it steal your joy. The hard part is saying, OK,
- 3:13once I have that thought and I know what I'm going to do to
- 3:16prepare for it, then I'm going to live in the present moment
- 3:19and I'm going to enjoy my reality that I've created.
- 3:22Like how much of your reality right now are you enjoying?
- 3:26No, your future pacing just like me.
- 3:29And you have to pull yourself back.
- 3:31The only thing that I am, I have conditioned myself for that you
- 3:34may not have yet, is that I can pull myself back from that edge
- 3:38quicker. I don't want to stay out there
- 3:40expecting the worst case scenario to happen, having to
- 3:44deal with it over and over when it hasn't happened because I
- 3:47keep struggling in my head. Crisis to crisis to crisis to
- 3:50crisis. And it's not fair.
- 3:53Not only is it not fair to your to your emotional intelligence
- 3:56and everything that you're going through, but it's not fair to
- 3:59your soul. It beats your soul up.
- 4:01It gives your soul this feeling of despair overall.
- 4:05And it doesn't have to be because in the present moment,
- 4:08as I stand here and as I look at all of these tomatoes that are
- 4:12getting ready to go out first, really I'm keeping the Peppers
- 4:14in longer just because they, I can control them a little bit
- 4:17more. I can give them the right heat,
- 4:19get them a lot taller. The tomatoes right now are
- 4:22probably, I'm going to guess about 1314 inches tall.
- 4:29They're big enough to go out. The Peppers are like 4 inches
- 4:32tall. I'm not sending them out yet.
- 4:34So I've got a lot of things that could go out.
- 4:37I've got cilantro that can go out.
- 4:39I'm looking at them all and I want them to live their best
- 4:41lives. Like I want them to live their
- 4:43best lives. I want them to be able to do
- 4:45everything that they were meant to do.
- 4:47And in that process, I have to not catastrophize what could
- 4:51happen. I have to say, OK, I'm, I'm so
- 4:54grateful and I do, I talk to my plants and I'm blessing them.
- 4:58And I can't wait for them to go out and be all that they're
- 5:00supposed to be and can be. And at the same time, I have to
- 5:04recognize, you know what? I've got to let go of the fear.
- 5:08I've got to let go of the fear and I've got to stay in the
- 5:11moment. And whatever happens, you know
- 5:13what, I'm going to move through it.
- 5:15I believe in myself and I believe in my skills, and I will
- 5:20find a way through it. Just like this year, we're not
- 5:23planting the tomatoes in the ground, we're doing the bags
- 5:25because that will make it easier on the plant to not have to have
- 5:29the virus right there in the soil.
- 5:31Now, the bigger part of this is pulling yourself back into the
- 5:35joy. So when you find yourself living
- 5:38in the future and you find yourself catastrophizing and you
- 5:42find yourself thinking of the worst case scenario, say, Yep,
- 5:45I'm well aware of that. Now I'm going to go back to the
- 5:47present moment and I'm going to go into that state of joy.
- 5:50I'm going to enjoy every bit of it, just like I'm going to enjoy
- 5:54setting up the garden in the next couple of days for them.
- 5:57All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:59will see you in the present moment tomorrow.
- 6:02Bye.
