- 1:05As we read together, Exodus chapter 18,
- 1:19Moses father-in-law Jethro. The priest from Midian heard
- 1:24about everything God had done for Moses and his people, the
- 1:27Israelites he heard especially about how the Lord had rescued
- 1:32them from Egypt. Earlier, Moses had sent his wife
- 1:36zipporah and his two sons back to Jethro who had taken them in
- 1:40Moses. First son was named gershom for
- 1:44Moses. Had said when the boy was born,
- 1:46I have been a foreigner in a foreign Land.
- 1:50His second son was named Eliezer for Moses.
- 1:54Had said the god of my ancestors was my helper.
- 1:58He rescued me from The Sword of pharaoh Jethro.
- 2:02Moses, father-in-law now came to visit Moses.
- 2:05In the wilderness, he brought Moses wife and two sons with him
- 2:10and they arrived while Moses and the people were camped near the
- 2:13Mountain of God Jethro had sent a message to Moses saying, I
- 2:18just throw your father in I'm coming to see you with your wife
- 2:22and your two sons. So, Moses went out to meet his
- 2:25father-in-law, he bowed low and kissed him.
- 2:29They asked about each other's welfare and then went to Moses
- 2:33tent, Moses told his father-in-law everything, the
- 2:36Lord had done to pharaoh and Egypt on behalf of Israel.
- 2:40He also told about all the hardships, they had experienced
- 2:43along the way and how the Lord had rescued his people from all
- 2:47their troubles. Jethro was delighted when he
- 2:50heard about all the good things. The Lord had done for Israel as
- 2:54he rescued them, from the hands of the Egyptians praise the Lord
- 2:59Jethro said for he has rescued you from the Egyptians and from
- 3:04Pharaoh, yes he has rescued Israel from the powerful hand of
- 3:09Egypt, I know now that the Lord is greater than all other gods
- 3:15because he rescued his people from the oppression.

- 3:24brought a burnt offering and sacrifices to God, Aaron and all
- 3:29the Elders of Israel came out and joined him in a sacrificial
- 3:33meal in God's presence. The next day, Moses took his
- 3:38seat to hear the people's disputes against each other.
- 3:41They waited before him from morning till evening.
- 3:45When Moses, father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the
- 3:49people. He asked, what are you really
- 3:52accomplishing here? Why are you trying to do all
- 3:55this alone, while everyone stands around you from morning
- 3:58till evening? Moses replied, because the
- 4:02people come to me to get a ruling from God.
- 4:06When a dispute arises, they come to me.
- 4:08And I'm the one, who settles the case between the quarrelling
- 4:11parties. I informed the people of God's
- 4:14decrees and give them his instructions.

- 4:21You're going to wear yourself out and the people to this job
- 4:26is too heavy. A burden for you to handle all
- 4:28by yourself. Now, listen to me, and let me
- 4:32give you a word of advice and may God be with you.
- 4:36You should continue to be the people's representative before
- 4:39God, bringing their disputes to him.
- 4:42Teach them God's decrees and give them his instructions.
- 4:46Show them how to conduct their lives.
- 4:48But select from all the people, some capable honest.

- 5:05solve the people's Amin disputes but have them bring the major
- 5:09cases to you. Let the leaders decide.
- 5:12The smaller matters themselves. They will help you carry the
- 5:16load, making the task easier for you.
- 5:20If you follow this advice and if God commands you to do, so then
- 5:26you will be able to endure the pressures and all these people
- 5:30will go home in peace. Moses listened to his
- 5:34father-in-law's advice and followed his suggestions.
- 5:38He chose capable men from all over Israel and appointed them
- 5:42as Leaders over the people. He put them in charge of groups
- 5:46of 1150 and 10. These men were always available
- 5:52to solve the people's common disputes.
- 5:55They brought the major cases to Moses, but they took care of the
