Transcript
- 0:00welcome to saturday night it's uh the last race of the nascar
- 0:05regular season the
- 0:07coke zero 400 at daytona international speedway which is a
- 0:11legendary nascar
- 0:12speedway and everybody's like they just fucking drive around in
- 0:16circles that ain't
- 0:17real racing and it's like driving around in circles in five
- 0:23o'clock traffic in
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: atlanta at 180 miles an hour
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: It's a little bit more complicated than just driving around in circles.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: But NASCAR is pretty cool, man.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: They got all kinds of racetracks.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: They got
- 0:35intermediate tracks they got short tracks that are like old
- 0:38school like country boy
- 0:40racing banging doors and stuff and then they got super speedway
- 0:44racing which is the
- 0:44most exciting racing on the planet it's always a photo finish
- 0:49and i'm watching it
- 0:49right now they're three wide going 180 miles an hour around the
- 0:52track there's 30
- 0:53laps to go they're starting to get a little wild out there so
- 0:58uh you know my
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: favorite i was all in nascar when i was a kid my
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: favorite racer was Dale Earnhardt.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: And when he died, man, it was just, it was like the world ended.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: And,
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: but at the same time,
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: man,
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: the guy was 51 years old and won seven championships,
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: died on the last lap of the most famous race in the sport.
- 1:19And I mean,
- 1:20if you got to go out some way,
- 1:21that's a hell of a way to go out.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's legendary.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: So NASCAR hadn't been real exciting.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: It hadn't had a lot of personalities, but it's been exciting this year.
- 1:33This year I've watched it more than I've ever watched it before
- 1:35in the past,
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: and it's been very exciting.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: And they go into the playoffs next week.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: If you win, you're automatically in the playoffs.
- 1:46The top 16 drivers get in the playoffs,
- 1:48and if you win,
- 1:48you're automatically in the playoffs.
- 1:50And the guy that's running second right now,
- 1:53if he could win,
- 1:53he would get in the playoffs.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: If not,
- 1:56then it's going to be the guy with the most points that hadn't
- 1:59won that's going to
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: get in the playoffs.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: So,
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: yeah,
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: man,
- 2:04they have to sort of – they get all bunched up like that
- 2:08because they can't go fast
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: by themselves because of the aerodynamic slipstream that the cars create,
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: and they get bunched up together,
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: and they go a lot faster.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: They push each other.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: And managing those aerodynamics is the skill that NASCAR drivers have.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: It's managing,
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 2:28how to manage air off of other cars and how to manipulate it
- 2:31and that sort of
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: stuff.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: And like other races, it's got pit stops.
- 2:35You know,
- 2:35if you've got a pit stop,
- 2:36a half a second on a pit stop is an eternity.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: And, yeah, it's really cool, man.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: And this year they've had Aussie driver win four races.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: all the road track, all the road courses.
- 2:51He came from supercars in Australia and he won all the road
- 2:54course tracks.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: And then they had a black guy win a race, Bubba Wallace.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: So it's getting some more diversity in there.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: It's not just a bunch of good old country boys anymore.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: It's a lot different than it used to be.
- 3:07It used to be,
- 3:08you know,
- 3:08you could build something in your garage and go race.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: It's multi-million dollar business now.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's, these, these race teams have a lot of money and a lot
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: a lot of resources to put into these cars.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: So it's pretty impressive.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: My favorite driver is Christopher Bell.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: He drives the number 20 car.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: He's about 12th right now.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: And he took two tires on the last pit stop.
- 3:36So if there were to be a caution,
- 3:38he might be able to get away with not having a pit stop.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: It might zip up to the front.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: You might have a shot at winning it if there's a caution.
- 3:46Usually there's cautions towards the end of the race because
- 3:48people start getting
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: crazy trying to win.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, man.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: I love NASCAR, man.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: It's a great southern sport.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: It was born out of moonshining up in Appalachia.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: And,
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: uh,
- 4:04they used to run from what they would call the revenuers or the
- 4:06feds who were after
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: them for the taxes that they didn't pay on the shine.
- 4:11And that's where they souped up their car so they could get
- 4:13away from the feds.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: And that's where NASCAR came from.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: It's a working class sport.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: And,
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: uh,
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: well,
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: it's not as much a working class sport now as it used to be,
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: but in the past it was big time working class sport.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: So I would advise everybody to watch the Dale Earnhardt,
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: uh,
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: uh,
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: documentaries,
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: five part documentary on,
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: uh,
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: It's on Amazon Prime.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: It's really good.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: And it was bankrolled by his son,
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Dale Earnhardt Jr.,
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: who's got out of racing because of concussion problems,
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: but he's still a huge force in the sport.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, man.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: I love NASCAR.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: It's a fun sport.
- 4:51It's a nice thing to watch on a Saturday night and late August
- 4:56before football season starts.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: Anyway, we'll see y'all later.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Peace, y'all.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: No, we can keep talking.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Y'all got any questions about NASCAR?
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: No questions.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: We'll see y'all later.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Peace, y'all.
