- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites the podcasts from the Action Network. Guy,
- 0:14Speaker 1: I'm Chad Millman, flying solo today. It's the middle of July,
- 0:20Speaker 1: the week after July four and uh, which means we're
- 0:24Speaker 1: like so close to college football you can smell the
- 0:27Speaker 1: grass and see the grass stayings. So um that's what
- 0:31Speaker 1: we're doing today, A big excuse me, big college football day. Uh.
- 0:36Speaker 1: What I want to say is that leader in the show,
- 0:39Speaker 1: Colin Wilson from the Action Network is coming on. He's
- 0:43Speaker 1: our college football expert. He has been talking about college
- 0:46Speaker 1: football since March. He has been writing about it, uh
- 0:49Speaker 1: NonStop since March. He's got so many uh stories up
- 0:53Speaker 1: about a A C wind totals, the five FBS bets
- 0:58Speaker 1: I'm making right now, the futures bets that he's made.
- 1:02Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about all that. First up, one of
- 1:06Speaker 1: the most talented and creative people in the sporting landscape,
- 1:10Speaker 1: Drew Franklin, Kentucky Sports Radio at Drew Franklin, ks are
- 1:16Speaker 1: first time on the podcast. Brother, Yeah, I appreciate that
- 1:19Speaker 1: kind intro. Are you that complimentary of all your guests? No,
- 1:24Speaker 1: not at all, But you know what you guys did
- 1:25Speaker 1: amazing stuff. You and Matt Jones, your colleague there at
- 1:29Speaker 1: Kentucky Sports Radio, founder of Kentucky Sports Radio, did amazing
- 1:32Speaker 1: stuff with us during March Madness. You did phenomenal videos,
- 1:36Speaker 1: You personally wrote a bunch of stories, and you know,
- 1:40Speaker 1: I think of you as like the legit sharp better
- 1:44Speaker 1: of the duo. So uh, that's why I'm glad to
- 1:48Speaker 1: have you on the podcast today. Yeah, and I've got
- 1:50Speaker 1: the receipts to back that up. If we're going to
- 1:52Speaker 1: compare numbers between Matt myself, I'm definitely sharp of the
- 1:55Speaker 1: k SR group. Sharper um, more handsome, better beard. Yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 1: I just keep going. Let's just make the whole podcast
- 2:05Speaker 1: about me. Let's do it, Let's do it all. What
- 2:07Speaker 1: I love that you guys do is you guys go
- 2:08Speaker 1: on like you guys do a tour of the state,
- 2:11Speaker 1: like the the way the Kentucky Sports Radio and Mats
- 2:14Speaker 1: talked about this in the podcast has sort of become
- 2:16Speaker 1: the most important thing in sports radio and if not
- 2:19Speaker 1: all of sort of Kentucky focused media in the state
- 2:23Speaker 1: is phenomenal. Um, where have you been? Where are you now?
- 2:26Speaker 1: Where are you going? We're just getting started this week,
- 2:30Speaker 1: but we are doing a five week tour with our
- 2:32Speaker 1: radio show where we will be in a different county
- 2:36Speaker 1: every day. Tomorrow morning I have a three hour drive
- 2:39Speaker 1: to get to Neuenberg County on the western south of state.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Then have to drive four hours to northern Kentucky and
- 2:45Speaker 1: then the next morning five hours even further west to Murray, Kentucky.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And that that's probably our next two months. Is every
- 2:51Speaker 1: morning we're popping up in different parts of the state
- 2:53Speaker 1: and we do our live to our morning show and
- 2:56Speaker 1: usually get good crowds, and it's just good to get
- 2:58Speaker 1: out and you know, when we're blabbing on the radio
- 3:00Speaker 1: talking to the microphone, it's good to get out and
- 3:01Speaker 1: meet the people who are listening on the other end.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So so we're up to next month or so. So
- 3:06Speaker 1: who does the driving, Well, we're all in one car.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Matt definitely drives, none of us gets touched the wheel.
- 3:14Speaker 1: He'll drive every minute. But due to a lot of
- 3:16Speaker 1: our schedules, some of these we end up taking three
- 3:19Speaker 1: separate cars for three people, so it's a little ridiculous
- 3:21Speaker 1: on the planning, a lot of miles going on the Okay,
- 3:25Speaker 1: I saw our gas card which Kentucky County has the
- 3:27Speaker 1: best food, Oh, the best food, putting me on the spot.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I think they're all good. I like when we get
- 3:35Speaker 1: off on these small towns we've never been to and
- 3:37Speaker 1: there's just like a mom and pop diner, the little
- 3:40Speaker 1: grocery store cafe that no one's ever heard of. Anytime
- 3:43Speaker 1: you see one of those, they're gonna have the best
- 3:45Speaker 1: food wherever. It is a mistake. Which Kentucky County has
- 3:48Speaker 1: the best bourbon? Uh? Well, we got the Bourbon Trail
- 3:55Speaker 1: that covers a couple of counties. Uh that that whole area.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Any anyone listening that ever comes to Kentucky just get
- 4:01Speaker 1: in the car and hit them all. It's a great
- 4:03Speaker 1: area here. The county went for County Bourbon County, Payette County.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Lots of fun with the bourbon here. I might even
- 4:09Speaker 1: recommend ubering if you try to do the whole day.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It's probably a good idea. Which Kentucky County has the
- 4:15Speaker 1: best bookie? But I don't speak. You know, they don't
- 4:19Speaker 1: let us gamble here in Kentucky, so I don't know
- 4:21Speaker 1: what you're talking about. I don't do any gambling in
- 4:23Speaker 1: the state. I think we'll be the fiftieth state to
- 4:27Speaker 1: make it legal about forty years from now, so no
- 4:30Speaker 1: bookies around here. I don't know what you're talking about. No,
- 4:32Speaker 1: you're totally right. You're totally legit when you did You're
- 4:34Speaker 1: gambling is for match dicks, and I've always appreciated that
- 4:36Speaker 1: about you. Uh. I want to talk about two things today.
- 4:39Speaker 1: You guys, UM, do you want to talk about Jared
- 4:42Speaker 1: Lorenzen for a second, Which is a little bit off
- 4:44Speaker 1: the betting topic, but you guys were close to Jared Lorenzen,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and back when I was at ESPN, UM we did
- 4:52Speaker 1: a story about Jared Lorenz and Tommy tom Listen did
- 4:55Speaker 1: a story about Jared Lorenzen that the year that we
- 4:58Speaker 1: commissioned it and published it, it was the most traffic
- 5:01Speaker 1: story we did on ESPN dot com that year. It
- 5:06Speaker 1: um no pun intended just completely blew up, and I
- 5:09Speaker 1: thought it was reflective of sort of how Jared Lorenzen
- 5:15Speaker 1: lived his life, completely honestly, but also sort of what
- 5:18Speaker 1: a fascination he was as an athlete because he was
- 5:22Speaker 1: so overweight and like the things he could do as
- 5:24Speaker 1: a person that size being so nimble. UM, tell me
- 5:28Speaker 1: about your relationship with him and why you think he
- 5:31Speaker 1: resonated so much for such a broad audience. You mentioned
- 5:35Speaker 1: that story, which is curribly well done, but you could
- 5:37Speaker 1: do three different stories, one on Jared on the football field,
- 5:41Speaker 1: one on Jared just in the room being the fun guy,
- 5:44Speaker 1: and then a third on Jared's fight with his weight loss.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I mean, his entire life. We keep saying he's larger
- 5:50Speaker 1: than life figure. He's one of the con as a
- 5:53Speaker 1: football player. He was out there playing like he's you know,
- 5:56Speaker 1: in the backyard, one of my favorite players. He's at
- 5:58Speaker 1: George A throws the foot ball over his head, which
- 6:01Speaker 1: if it had not been completed, I'm sure would have
- 6:03Speaker 1: kicked off the team to the most insane thing to
- 6:05Speaker 1: do in a game. But that was just Jared out
- 6:07Speaker 1: there having a blast. And then he was the same
- 6:09Speaker 1: way off the field, just a magnetic personality that could
- 6:11Speaker 1: light up the room. And then of course he had
- 6:14Speaker 1: a struggles that have been well documented. Just an unbelievable guy.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And I'm sitting here, I got a suit next to
- 6:19Speaker 1: me from arobably going to his funeral soon. And obviously
- 6:21Speaker 1: it's been almost a week and I can't believe we're
- 6:23Speaker 1: having this conversation. How did you guys become so close
- 6:26Speaker 1: to him. I'm about four years younger than Jared, so
- 6:31Speaker 1: when he was playing UK, I was in high school
- 6:34Speaker 1: and so I don't like to say I looked up
- 6:36Speaker 1: to him wanted to be hi, because I'm not that
- 6:37Speaker 1: much younger, but I definitely he was definitely my favorite player.
- 6:40Speaker 1: And then as KSR went on and he finished his
- 6:43Speaker 1: NFL career, he did some pregame radio with us, and
- 6:46Speaker 1: through that we became friends. And honestly, yeah, a year
- 6:51Speaker 1: of knowing him and working with him, I would still
- 6:52Speaker 1: be sitting in the room like I'm sitting next to
- 6:55Speaker 1: Jared the Rims and it was kind of surreal for
- 6:57Speaker 1: a while. Then his town went on and became real close,
- 7:00Speaker 1: always texting and goofing off about whatever football stuff is
- 7:03Speaker 1: going on. Uh. Just a great friend and we really
- 7:06Speaker 1: missed him already. What was the best football story he
- 7:10Speaker 1: told you, either about Kentucky or playing with the Giants
- 7:13Speaker 1: or anything else. Well, I have a good one that
- 7:18Speaker 1: actually pertains to what you all do. Uh. We did
- 7:21Speaker 1: a special football podcast that was just Jared telling stories
- 7:26Speaker 1: of his Super Bowl title with the Giants, and uh,
- 7:31Speaker 1: I hate to telling him here, but since he kind
- 7:33Speaker 1: of set it himself. He might have gone over and
- 7:36Speaker 1: looked at the color gatorade on the Patriots side and
- 7:39Speaker 1: texted some of his friends, uh, what what color to
- 7:42Speaker 1: bet on that year? Then of course the Giants go
- 7:47Speaker 1: on to set the Patriots and his friends whilst be
- 7:50Speaker 1: But that's that's one of my all time favorite Jared's.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I couldn't believe he admitted to it, but since he
- 7:55Speaker 1: already put it out there, I got no problem retelling it.
- 7:58Speaker 1: He was spying on the color of the gatorade for
- 8:00Speaker 1: his gambling firms, but not only that, he was spying
- 8:03Speaker 1: in the color of the gateaide for the opposite team. Yeah. Well,
- 8:07Speaker 1: I think he told them both colors and they just
- 8:09Speaker 1: assumed Patriots had win and they went with it, and
- 8:12Speaker 1: then of course they pulled me upset. So that's one
- 8:15Speaker 1: of all time favorite Jetts that he's just constantly out
- 8:19Speaker 1: having fun. I gotta tell you, I'm so glad to
- 8:21Speaker 1: ask that question, because that is the most perfect story
- 8:24Speaker 1: to telling this podcast about jaredn I'm actually wondering if
- 8:27Speaker 1: I should have kept that to myself, but it's out
- 8:28Speaker 1: there now, so it's out there. Jarrett was tipping people
- 8:31Speaker 1: off on the Gatorade back in that famous Super Bowl
- 8:34Speaker 1: that is that is phenomenal. What do you think, um,
- 8:40Speaker 1: what do you think Jared le Linsen would think of
- 8:42Speaker 1: what Kentucky did last year and what their prospects are
- 8:46Speaker 1: this year. I'm I'm glad Jared got to see all
- 8:52Speaker 1: that happened last year because obviously past season, in thirty years,
- 8:56Speaker 1: they win ten games. But that for just Rereek weight
- 9:00Speaker 1: on him a whole lot because and I want to
- 9:02Speaker 1: say two thousand three, I believe he was the quarterback
- 9:07Speaker 1: when they blew an eighteen point lead in the fourth quarter.
- 9:09Speaker 1: He threw an interception that basically gave Florida the game,
- 9:12Speaker 1: And though he kind of points it off, that weight
- 9:15Speaker 1: on him a lot that that Street just kept building
- 9:17Speaker 1: up and building up and building up because he knew
- 9:19Speaker 1: he had a beat, you know, decades ago. So then
- 9:22Speaker 1: for him to see it last year when they finally
- 9:24Speaker 1: got to win at Florida, Uh, he did a periscope
- 9:27Speaker 1: of his reaction and really after the game, he's just
- 9:29Speaker 1: watching home by himself, but I mean he's screaming, almost
- 9:32Speaker 1: in tears watching that Street snap. And then for them
- 9:34Speaker 1: to go on and win that Citrus Bowl it was
- 9:37Speaker 1: just a great season for to be the last one
- 9:39Speaker 1: Jay will ever get to see, because I know how
- 9:40Speaker 1: much it meant for him to see that football program
- 9:43Speaker 1: turn it around. All right, So you know SEC football obviously,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and and you are mad to a phenomenal job covering
- 9:49Speaker 1: college football. Uh for Ksrum, I want to talk about
- 9:54Speaker 1: the SEC for a minute. I do want to start
- 9:56Speaker 1: with Kentucky because the projections for them probably anywhere from
- 10:01Speaker 1: five to six wins depending on where you're looking right
- 10:04Speaker 1: now at the Action Network. Uh, Colin Wilson hasn't projected
- 10:08Speaker 1: for five point four five wins and only two conference wins.
- 10:15Speaker 1: We are you coming in on that, Drew Franklin, I mean,
- 10:20Speaker 1: take my money. I'm all in on the over. I
- 10:22Speaker 1: try to not to be a homer when I'm looking
- 10:25Speaker 1: at gambling here because you know, grew up the UK fan.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I'm always leading on the positive side. But when I
- 10:30Speaker 1: look at that schedule, therefore, they have four non conference
- 10:34Speaker 1: games that I think they could sleep walk through and win.
- 10:36Speaker 1: They have to lead to Eastern Michigan, UT Martin and
- 10:40Speaker 1: Louisville home and Louisville's normally you know fight. They terrible
- 10:43Speaker 1: last year, so I think right now, before you even
- 10:46Speaker 1: kicked the ball off, they have four wins. The only
- 10:49Speaker 1: one I see that is counter to the losses at Georgia.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Certainly seven games to win two to just hit six wins,
- 10:58Speaker 1: and a lot of those I'm almost want to call
- 11:00Speaker 1: coin flips. You have Missouri at home, Tennessee at home.
- 11:04Speaker 1: You go at Vanderbilt, which should be a win. I
- 11:07Speaker 1: would set this line more at seven. And that's not
- 11:11Speaker 1: even me being overly optimistic as a UK fan. I
- 11:14Speaker 1: can't believe it's low in some of these places. So
- 11:16Speaker 1: low it I've seen six. You just mentioned someone that five.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I can't even believe that. Well, listen, Colin Wilson is
- 11:22Speaker 1: gonna come on later. Has Missouri at nearly nine and
- 11:25Speaker 1: a half wins. I believe Missouri is gonna be very good.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Uh but when you when you just beat Kentucky, you
- 11:32Speaker 1: want a couple to hit the over and you've got
- 11:34Speaker 1: Missouri at home. Missouri might even be favorite that game,
- 11:37Speaker 1: but there are gonna be double digit favors. I think
- 11:39Speaker 1: it's a close game and they live all right. Um,
- 11:43Speaker 1: the other teams, I want to discuss weight one thing.
- 11:45Speaker 1: What makes you so high in Kentucky Like to me,
- 11:48Speaker 1: there are an interesting team because they were so good
- 11:50Speaker 1: last year. They're one of those things where like people
- 11:51Speaker 1: get excited to root for teams the following year because
- 11:55Speaker 1: you want to see new blood and football. You want
- 11:57Speaker 1: to see a team like Kentucky. They had such a
- 12:00Speaker 1: madic season last year. What makes you feel like they
- 12:03Speaker 1: are better than advertise. I think it's easy for some
- 12:08Speaker 1: of the outsiders who don't follow as closely as we
- 12:09Speaker 1: do living here in Lexton, to just look at it
- 12:12Speaker 1: and say they lost to Josh Allen and Benny Snell
- 12:14Speaker 1: to the best ever. They have to take a step back,
- 12:16Speaker 1: and they will take a step back. The backfields coming
- 12:19Speaker 1: in behind Bennie is very good. It will be a
- 12:22Speaker 1: drop off, but they're gonna be an exciting bunch. There
- 12:25Speaker 1: won't be a huge drop off. I think Terry Wilson
- 12:27Speaker 1: at quarterback, now that he's got a season under his belt,
- 12:30Speaker 1: is gonna shock some people. I think he can be
- 12:32Speaker 1: a star. The linebackers replacing Allen are good. None of
- 12:35Speaker 1: them are Josh Allen, but it's a good group. My
- 12:37Speaker 1: only concern where I think the under hit on this
- 12:39Speaker 1: win total is the secondary is going to be very bad.
- 12:43Speaker 1: So I'm ready for you k to get beat beep alive.
- 12:46Speaker 1: But I think in every other position there's still gonna
- 12:48Speaker 1: be a very good thing. All Right, you've got some
- 12:51Speaker 1: neighbors down there Tennessee. Tell people what you told me
- 12:57Speaker 1: before we started the podcast. Uh, Well, I have thoughts
- 13:02Speaker 1: about Tennessee. I wasn't sure what their win total is
- 13:06Speaker 1: at right now, but I told you that no matter
- 13:09Speaker 1: what it is, I will go under I don't care
- 13:11Speaker 1: if they're one in total is one, I will take
- 13:14Speaker 1: under one. That That's how I feel about the Tennthy
- 13:16Speaker 1: football program. You must explain yourself. Well, they're obviously gonna
- 13:22Speaker 1: lose to Kentucky. Uh, even their trash nonconference games. I
- 13:28Speaker 1: think they'll lose to I think it might be able
- 13:29Speaker 1: to speak off the helm marry on Stadale whoever to
- 13:32Speaker 1: play in the first game of the year. But this
- 13:33Speaker 1: is where my hatred of Tennessee. I wouldn't encourage anyone
- 13:36Speaker 1: to follow my opinion here. What is your personal animus
- 13:40Speaker 1: for Tennessee? Tell me about the rivalry. Well, my whole
- 13:43Speaker 1: life I watched Kentucky lose to them until just fairly recently,
- 13:46Speaker 1: and then my own father is a Tennessee fan who
- 13:49Speaker 1: when I left town to be the UK, he turned
- 13:53Speaker 1: my old bedroom into Tennessee room, painting to completely orange,
- 13:57Speaker 1: so anytime I was home to visit, I would have
- 13:58Speaker 1: to sleep in that best So really, my whole life
- 14:01Speaker 1: it's been hatred of Tennessee and it will continue to
- 14:03Speaker 1: be that way. Nothing will ever give you a change.
- 14:05Speaker 1: My mom on the Balls, I think I love your dad.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Oh he he had a checkerboard blanket, orange walls. Even
- 14:13Speaker 1: the t TV remote had a t on it. The
- 14:15Speaker 1: first time I slept in there, he snuck in and
- 14:17Speaker 1: took a picture and seen it's the map. So I
- 14:18Speaker 1: didn't start sleeping in the hallway. But yeah, I've been
- 14:21Speaker 1: getting trolled by my Balls fan dad for a long time.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Why does he left Tennessee? Did he go there? Uh?
- 14:27Speaker 1: He was a Kentucky fan. Uh. Born and raised Kentucky,
- 14:31Speaker 1: went to Western Kentucky. I guess he's just like that
- 14:33Speaker 1: puke orange or wanted to be a troll. But he
- 14:35Speaker 1: switched probably when I was about eight or nine, and
- 14:38Speaker 1: he's all out. He's even got the big T on
- 14:40Speaker 1: the hood of his truck. And he's that kind of fan.
- 14:42Speaker 1: So when you walk into your room and you see
- 14:44Speaker 1: it painted in orange and you've got the checkerboard blanket
- 14:48Speaker 1: and stuff. Was happy? Was he with you? What happened?
- 14:52Speaker 1: What is he? I'm trying to think of, Like, what's
- 14:54Speaker 1: the meanest joke I've ever played on either of my
- 14:56Speaker 1: sons And I don't think it's I don't think it
- 14:59Speaker 1: stacks up to that. Give me your reaction and how
- 15:01Speaker 1: he played it for you? Yeah, well, I mean I
- 15:03Speaker 1: live it's about a three hour drive. When I was
- 15:05Speaker 1: at UK, so I wouldn't visit a whole probably four
- 15:08Speaker 1: or five times a year. And I guess maybe it
- 15:10Speaker 1: was Thanksgiving one year because the game was right around
- 15:13Speaker 1: that time. Uh did my normal trip home and little
- 15:15Speaker 1: did I know he had completely remodeled the room that
- 15:18Speaker 1: I would be sleeping in for the weekend. And that
- 15:21Speaker 1: was the last time I slipped in there. Seriously, you
- 15:24Speaker 1: never slept in there again. No, always on the couch.
- 15:27Speaker 1: He's the guy that wears those ugly checkerboard pants everywhere.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I mean, he he'll on work wag if it's a
- 15:33Speaker 1: big game. He's that kind of idiot. God, sec football
- 15:37Speaker 1: is the best. It is just fin You really don't
- 15:40Speaker 1: get that anywhere else. I I you do not get
- 15:43Speaker 1: you know, you do not get people doing that in
- 15:45Speaker 1: the a SEC. You don't get people doing that in
- 15:47Speaker 1: the pack twelve. Maybe you get it a little bit
- 15:50Speaker 1: in the Big ten, but that is that is a
- 15:52Speaker 1: decidedly SEC uh characteristic. Yeah, I mean one week out
- 16:00Speaker 1: of the year, SEC football makes me hate my own father,
- 16:03Speaker 1: and I'm not proud of that. But I mean he
- 16:05Speaker 1: started it, so it's going to continue to be that way.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Basketball collerate him a little bit more, I can, I
- 16:10Speaker 1: can just let it slide. But that week leading up
- 16:12Speaker 1: to the football game and weird enemies? Is he the
- 16:15Speaker 1: one that got you into bedding? Uh? No, he didn't.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I do bet on mountain. He doesn't even understand how
- 16:21Speaker 1: any of that works. I've tried to practice it with
- 16:23Speaker 1: about a couple of bets. And I'm speaking of the language.
- 16:26Speaker 1: To give me another take here, I want to hear
- 16:28Speaker 1: your take on Alabama. I know you've got a hot
- 16:30Speaker 1: take in Alabama. Well, what do we have them said?
- 16:34Speaker 1: Is they at eleven and eleven and a half. Let's
- 16:36Speaker 1: say it's uh, let's say it's eleven. I'm going uh,
- 16:41Speaker 1: I think they win ten. I don't know which one
- 16:43Speaker 1: is the loser, or they go at A and M,
- 16:45Speaker 1: they go uh, they go to Auburn whe they have
- 16:48Speaker 1: LSU at home. But I'm just playing the odds of
- 16:51Speaker 1: they've been too good for too long and if someone
- 16:53Speaker 1: finally has to upset them when it's not expected, I'm
- 16:56Speaker 1: putting them at ten wins this year. I don't know
- 16:57Speaker 1: which too they're losing, but it's just want to happen
- 17:00Speaker 1: because they've been too good every year and someone will
- 17:02Speaker 1: knock the boss to someone's true that is A and
- 17:06Speaker 1: M and I don't know. I hate say it. Auburn
- 17:08Speaker 1: Maybe LS you beat him at home? That is awful analysis. Hey,
- 17:13Speaker 1: I'm I'm just playing the number every single year. I
- 17:16Speaker 1: know they're the best team and they reload all those
- 17:18Speaker 1: wins and it's kind of past. But I'm a believer.
- 17:21Speaker 1: At some point they have to lose a game that
- 17:22Speaker 1: they're not supposed to I don't care what. Maybe it's Tennessee,
- 17:26Speaker 1: probably not, but they're bound to lose the game that
- 17:28Speaker 1: Nick Saban wasn't supposed to lose. I can't even think
- 17:30Speaker 1: of the time they've been upset in the last couple
- 17:32Speaker 1: of years. What what what is what is worse for you? Kentucky?
- 17:41Speaker 1: Kentucky winning? Now, let me see, let me see the
- 17:46Speaker 1: phrasing here. I want to know, like, would you rather
- 17:50Speaker 1: Alabama lose? But what if they lose to Tennessee. Oh,
- 17:57Speaker 1: I don't even plant that seat in my head. If
- 18:00Speaker 1: Tennessee we're upset Albam and I like Alabama, I actually
- 18:03Speaker 1: root for Alabama, not like a bandwagon pick in Kentucky
- 18:06Speaker 1: basketball Alabama football, but I'll pull for the sec outside
- 18:09Speaker 1: of Tennessee. I can't fathom a scenario we're asked to
- 18:12Speaker 1: my father in the eyes with Tennessee just upset Alabama
- 18:15Speaker 1: and Brian didn't didn't figure this year. I can't even
- 18:18Speaker 1: wrap my head around that possibility. But I do think
- 18:21Speaker 1: someone upset to Alabama when we when we're not expecting it.
- 18:25Speaker 1: All right, well, listen, that might be of the of
- 18:28Speaker 1: the takes you gave me. I can buy Tennessee, I
- 18:32Speaker 1: can buy Kentucky. I'm glad your dad trold you. I
- 18:36Speaker 1: think that's an amazing Jared Lorenzen story. Um, but I'm
- 18:40Speaker 1: not buying the Alabama. I bet they lose at Startinville.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I'll bet you right now, what kind of have you
- 18:48Speaker 1: given me. I kind of threw that one out of
- 18:49Speaker 1: the hot tick. What well, let's just you're saying they're
- 18:53Speaker 1: gonna lose. I'm saying they're gonna win. We'll just beat
- 18:55Speaker 1: it straight up, all right, I got the Bulldogs. I
- 18:59Speaker 1: hate the Well, maybe Alabama will walk in into that
- 19:01Speaker 1: town and then just come out and the yeah, we'll
- 19:04Speaker 1: see I'll make let's say, well, no, let's just do
- 19:07Speaker 1: it straight up. Wonder One there, buddy, wonder One, that's
- 19:10Speaker 1: what we're doing. That sounds like a terrible bed. I'm
- 19:12Speaker 1: a greand too, but I like you still. Let's do it. Well. Listen,
- 19:15Speaker 1: you haven't proven yourself to be there. Listen, you're sharper
- 19:17Speaker 1: than Matt Jones. But what are we saying here? That's true?
- 19:21Speaker 1: All right? Go bulldog Drew Franklin, Kentucky Sports Radio. Actually, Franklin,
- 19:28Speaker 1: ks are uh. That is a phenomenal Jaral Lorenzen story
- 19:32Speaker 1: And that was a gift from out of nowhere that
- 19:34Speaker 1: I did not see coming. Thank you for coming on
- 19:36Speaker 1: the favorites the podcast. Enjoy your tour of Kentucky well
- 19:41Speaker 1: try Thanks for having me on. I love everything you
- 19:43Speaker 1: guys do. Alright, brother, I'll talk to you soon yea
- 19:46Speaker 1: as promised up next. Action Network college football analyst expert extradinaire,
- 19:53Speaker 1: host of the brand new Action Network podcast, The Colleges Podcast,
- 20:00Speaker 1: along with our friend Stucky Mr Colin Wilson. What's going
- 20:06Speaker 1: on man? Thanks for having me on. I hope you
- 20:08Speaker 1: sharpened all of your pencils and put them in your
- 20:11Speaker 1: pocket protector, because we're gonna get nerdy. We're gonna have
- 20:13Speaker 1: to get a couple of minutes to be nerdy here
- 20:15Speaker 1: with some numbers. Listen. I listened to the Action Network
- 20:17Speaker 1: podcast the other day. You add on Matt Lindeman from
- 20:20Speaker 1: Caesar's the Bookmaker there, uh and it was amazing, Like
- 20:24Speaker 1: it is. It is so deep into college football. It
- 20:29Speaker 1: is pure passion. That's just what it is. It is
- 20:32Speaker 1: like it was like a guy who had been spending
- 20:34Speaker 1: the past five months in a bunker watching every single
- 20:38Speaker 1: thing he can watch on YouTube, updating his rankings, updating
- 20:43Speaker 1: like the rosters and depth charts, and just had a
- 20:47Speaker 1: blast to finally let it out. Like I just felt
- 20:49Speaker 1: like I felt like you've had so much pent up
- 20:52Speaker 1: emotion about the college football upcoming college football season, that
- 20:57Speaker 1: that was your first opportunity. So I encourage everybody go
- 21:00Speaker 1: subscribe to the new Action Network podcast Rated Subscribe Review
- 21:07Speaker 1: all that kind of good stuff to hear Colin and
- 21:09Speaker 1: Stucky in a whole bunch of other folks talking about
- 21:12Speaker 1: big sports in UH in the betting world. Welcome, Welcome,
- 21:16Speaker 1: Colin Wilson. Yeah. And I would suggest everybody if you're
- 21:19Speaker 1: interested in the win totals the Action Network was, we
- 21:22Speaker 1: just put out all of our win totals because people
- 21:24Speaker 1: have been asking about them for a couple of weeks.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Those are now public and available for everybody. UH. And
- 21:29Speaker 1: not only does it capture the win total for every team,
- 21:32Speaker 1: and captures the conference win total for every team. So
- 21:36Speaker 1: a team may have like a certain win total overall
- 21:38Speaker 1: for the season, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're gonna
- 21:41Speaker 1: win a division. So those conference win totals are in
- 21:43Speaker 1: there too, so it'll be you'll be fully prepared for
- 21:45Speaker 1: conference odds when they come out. I just printed out
- 21:48Speaker 1: the SEC win total. By the way, nice shilling. I
- 21:50Speaker 1: printed out the win totals and conference totals for the
- 21:54Speaker 1: SEC um today because I drew Franklin on earlier and
- 21:57Speaker 1: I was using it as a reference. So um, give
- 22:00Speaker 1: me two teams whose win totals you hate right now
- 22:05Speaker 1: that most people would look at and say national title contenders.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I hate Ohio State and I hate Washington. And when
- 22:15Speaker 1: I say, hey, that means I'm using the money that
- 22:17Speaker 1: I can to get under their win totals. And that
- 22:20Speaker 1: is certainly in the face of a lot of people
- 22:23Speaker 1: that I'm hearing out there who love Ohio State. They
- 22:26Speaker 1: love Justin Fields transferring in from Georgia, they love Ryan
- 22:29Speaker 1: Day as the head coach. So let me just start
- 22:33Speaker 1: off with saying I've got them at nine point seven.
- 22:36Speaker 1: You can find ten and a halfs out there. You
- 22:37Speaker 1: can find ten, but I just don't think there's any
- 22:40Speaker 1: way that this is getting to eleven. They got a
- 22:42Speaker 1: big deduction in my power writings for second order win totals,
- 22:45Speaker 1: which is really kind of a way of looking at
- 22:47Speaker 1: teams and saying, well, you won the game by three,
- 22:49Speaker 1: but if you were given four turnovers, that's not really
- 22:51Speaker 1: a win. Ryan Day, he baby set the team for
- 22:55Speaker 1: three Saturdays last year. I mean, Urban Meyer coached the
- 22:58Speaker 1: team all through the week and and Day really just
- 23:00Speaker 1: kind of ran out on the field. They had an
- 23:02Speaker 1: offensive plan. Uh so we don't really know how good
- 23:04Speaker 1: Ryan Day is. So they got a negative one for me, uh,
- 23:08Speaker 1: and their power rating for that because Urban Meyer stucky.
- 23:11Speaker 1: I talked about this all the time. We think that
- 23:13Speaker 1: he was worth about two points the spread, and we
- 23:14Speaker 1: think he's even bigger, worth worth more to Ohio States
- 23:18Speaker 1: pr in games like the Rose Bowl or the Big
- 23:21Speaker 1: Ten Championship, because he's just a big game coach. But
- 23:23Speaker 1: now he's not there. Justin Fields on the other end,
- 23:25Speaker 1: a quarterback his odds attend to want at the West
- 23:27Speaker 1: Gate to win the Heisman is just I don't know
- 23:30Speaker 1: where that number is coming from. He looked clunky in
- 23:32Speaker 1: the spring game. He went four or thirteen, he didn't
- 23:35Speaker 1: have many yards. He's throwing it over receivers, under receivers,
- 23:39Speaker 1: left right. He can't hit any targets. And there's news
- 23:42Speaker 1: quietly circulating, especially with people in Vegas. We're all talking
- 23:46Speaker 1: about how Justin Fields was given every opportunity to beat
- 23:50Speaker 1: Jake from a Georgia. He could never take the role,
- 23:52Speaker 1: he could never take the job in practice. He didn't
- 23:54Speaker 1: look good in garbage time. Uh. And now he's at
- 23:58Speaker 1: House State where they lose everything on offense, and I
- 24:00Speaker 1: just don't know where the points are going to come from. Wow,
- 24:02Speaker 1: that's such a good point, right, Justin Fields and makes
- 24:05Speaker 1: such a big deal about him transfer in tow Ohio.
- 24:06Speaker 1: State could not win the job from the guy they
- 24:09Speaker 1: were dying to move out of the out of the
- 24:13Speaker 1: quarterback position to Georgia absolutely where I mean Jake From.
- 24:16Speaker 1: The knock on him two years ago was that, well,
- 24:18Speaker 1: this kid can't convert third and eight. This kid can't.
- 24:21Speaker 1: He's not an accurate pastor. And they've got Justin Fields,
- 24:24Speaker 1: and they've got Jacob Eason and Justin Fields is just
- 24:26Speaker 1: there to hold a clipboard. Well, I got news for everybody.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I mean, Jake From is a much better value for
- 24:32Speaker 1: a heisman than Justin Fields ever is. And the other
- 24:34Speaker 1: thing about how State that I'll end on with them
- 24:36Speaker 1: is that, yeah, they do return a ton on defense,
- 24:39Speaker 1: but this crew was a hundred and fifteenth in defending
- 24:41Speaker 1: explosive plays last year. I think back to that TCU
- 24:44Speaker 1: game when Herbert Meyer was suspended. TCU had like fifty
- 24:47Speaker 1: yard plays like every few minutes. And this same defense
- 24:51Speaker 1: returns and I'm supposed to expect them to all of
- 24:52Speaker 1: a sudden be good against the rush. And be good
- 24:54Speaker 1: against explosiveness. Ohio states not and I just don't think
- 24:57Speaker 1: there's I don't think they're gonna get over ten. And
- 24:59Speaker 1: I happily put my money on the under with these guys.
- 25:02Speaker 1: All right, So who's the other national title contender that
- 25:04Speaker 1: you're often everybody's on if you consider Washington a national title?
- 25:10Speaker 1: Are reconsidering the packs twelve? I guess, assuming you may
- 25:13Speaker 1: get through the Packs twelve with one loss, your your
- 25:15Speaker 1: you should go to the College football playoffs. But Washington
- 25:19Speaker 1: atten is something that that number should be under. And
- 25:22Speaker 1: we're already starting to see some of the books out
- 25:24Speaker 1: there go to nine and a half and and Matt
- 25:26Speaker 1: Linderman and I got into this over on the Action
- 25:28Speaker 1: Network podcasts about how CG technology out in Vegas. They
- 25:32Speaker 1: opened this at ten and Matt through nine out there
- 25:36Speaker 1: max power rating was the same as mine, which is
- 25:38Speaker 1: eight point three on these guys for a win total
- 25:41Speaker 1: uh Caesars throughout nine. They didn't care that that other
- 25:43Speaker 1: places in shops in Vegas for at ten and they
- 25:46Speaker 1: have the lowest defensive returning production rating of any team
- 25:49Speaker 1: in FBS of all hundred and thirty teams, Washington is
- 25:53Speaker 1: the lowest they finished a hundred and seventeen and special
- 25:56Speaker 1: teams SMP plus. I think that reflects on coaching. And
- 25:59Speaker 1: look at this. We have an another quarterback that was
- 26:01Speaker 1: supposed to be Kirby Smarts guy in the under center
- 26:05Speaker 1: that lost to Jake from and that's Jacob Eason. Jacob
- 26:08Speaker 1: Eason didn't even win the job during spring practice. Jake
- 26:11Speaker 1: Hayner's was supposed to be the backup, and he went
- 26:13Speaker 1: fourteen and seventeen in the spring game. And if you're
- 26:16Speaker 1: looking for an upset in week one, don't look any
- 26:19Speaker 1: farther than Washington. They're taking on an Eastern Washington team
- 26:23Speaker 1: that lost lost the FCS championship game to North Dakota
- 26:26Speaker 1: State last year. Eastern Washington returns everybody they can throw
- 26:30Speaker 1: seventy points up on a really bad defense, and Washington
- 26:33Speaker 1: returns zero experience on defense. Lookout for Eastern Washington week
- 26:37Speaker 1: one and take the under Washington. What's the spread in
- 26:40Speaker 1: that game going to be? I know, the only thing
- 26:44Speaker 1: I have is saguring because the mix of FCS and
- 26:46Speaker 1: FBS really the Sagurn ratings that I get into that,
- 26:50Speaker 1: and I would think that that line looking at it
- 26:53Speaker 1: right now is probably gonna be with Eastern Washington returning
- 26:56Speaker 1: everybody seventeen and a half. So you're you're calling a
- 27:01Speaker 1: potential upset right now of Eastern Washington beating Washington. I
- 27:05Speaker 1: can almost guarantee I'll have money on Eastern Washington UH
- 27:08Speaker 1: in week one with the spread and and and I'll
- 27:11Speaker 1: definitely have some money on the side with money line
- 27:13Speaker 1: on them. Oh my god. Now I'm going to have
- 27:16Speaker 1: money with Eastern Washington on the money line. That's a
- 27:19Speaker 1: no brainer. I've never been more excited for Eastern Washington.
- 27:23Speaker 1: They're an exciting team when you when you actually get
- 27:25Speaker 1: your eyes on them. Some of these FCS teams can
- 27:27Speaker 1: really put up points past and they're fantastic in Eastern
- 27:29Speaker 1: Washington's one of them can't play any defense worth the lick,
- 27:32Speaker 1: but Jacobison can't throw the ball, so I think we're
- 27:34Speaker 1: in good shape. Too bad there are any other former
- 27:37Speaker 1: Georgia backups that are roaming around for over over value teams,
- 27:42Speaker 1: But there is one game. There is one team in
- 27:45Speaker 1: the SEC that, uh, I feel like you have severely
- 27:51Speaker 1: potentially over valued than Missouri Tigers. And that's supposed to
- 27:58Speaker 1: be this, you know, for my Alan from Arkansas. We
- 28:01Speaker 1: have this made up rivalry with Missouri. I don't know
- 28:03Speaker 1: why they keep pushing. It's not a real rivalry. But
- 28:05Speaker 1: you're right, Missouri is I think fantastic. My number matches
- 28:10Speaker 1: nobody else. I haven't seen anybody go. I haven't seen
- 28:13Speaker 1: anybody put out a win total and standby that's over eight.
- 28:16Speaker 1: I've seen eight in some places. That's what it's listed
- 28:19Speaker 1: in Vegas, and that's what it's listed in Jersey. But
- 28:21Speaker 1: I've got this number over nine. I would take this
- 28:24Speaker 1: at eight. I would take this eight and a half.
- 28:26Speaker 1: And let's talk about the transfer situation. Kelly Bryant comes
- 28:30Speaker 1: in from Clemson. Obviously. UH. You know Missouri was able
- 28:33Speaker 1: to win that battle with some of the other teams
- 28:35Speaker 1: that were buying for him to play quarterback. UH. They
- 28:37Speaker 1: retained the running back Larry Roundtree. Missouri has four wide
- 28:41Speaker 1: receivers that had fifty plus targets last year. Kelly Bryant
- 28:45Speaker 1: has a ton of weapons. The defense was seven in
- 28:49Speaker 1: rushing SMP last year. UH. And they get their top
- 28:52Speaker 1: linebacker back Kill Garrett, who accounted for fifteen of the
- 28:55Speaker 1: team tackles, and they returned their top five defensive backs.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Uh in the second area, which is great. Their nonconference
- 29:01Speaker 1: schedule is filled with teams that are incompetent on offense.
- 29:05Speaker 1: We're talking Troy, West Virginia, that's a that's a Will
- 29:08Speaker 1: Greer lest West Virginia. We're talking Wyoming, and you know
- 29:12Speaker 1: the powerhouse of Southeast Missouri. Uh. It's really a really
- 29:17Speaker 1: easy schedule. Um. You know, as far as the conference
- 29:20Speaker 1: play goes, they got the two worst teams in the West,
- 29:23Speaker 1: which is Arkansas and Old miss um Missouri over eight.
- 29:27Speaker 1: They've got all the weapons, they're gonna make a run.
- 29:29Speaker 1: They have a chip on their shoulder because of this
- 29:30Speaker 1: bull band, which I think is going to be lifted
- 29:32Speaker 1: at some point, but Missouri over eight definitely. How how
- 29:37Speaker 1: how how much does it hurt you to say that
- 29:40Speaker 1: Arkansas is the worst team in the West. I am
- 29:44Speaker 1: actually sitting in Fayetteville right now, and everybody's drinking the
- 29:49Speaker 1: kool aid. Uh. They think we can get six wins
- 29:51Speaker 1: over and under. By the way, it's five and a half,
- 29:53Speaker 1: which I think the Arkansas The problem is Arkansas schedule.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Look at listen to these listening to these teams port
- 30:00Speaker 1: In State, San Jose State, Uh, Colorado State, Western Kentucky.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I mean, I would love to slam under five and
- 30:08Speaker 1: a half and I'd love to you know, I'd love
- 30:10Speaker 1: to have more money going against Arkansas. But Chad Morris
- 30:13Speaker 1: does have his old quarterback from SMU back Ben Hicks.
- 30:16Speaker 1: He was successful quarterback when Chad Morris was down there. Uh.
- 30:20Speaker 1: They did play actually some pretty deef decent defense last year,
- 30:24Speaker 1: so it's you know, their number came out around five,
- 30:27Speaker 1: so it's not really uh for me, I'm sorry the
- 30:29Speaker 1: number came out around five, which isn't good enough for
- 30:31Speaker 1: me to take an underbed on them. But we're terrible.
- 30:33Speaker 1: We're a baseball school. Now. We we took pride, uh
- 30:37Speaker 1: you know, showing my age here. We were in the
- 30:39Speaker 1: Southwest Conference and we were number one and two with
- 30:41Speaker 1: Texas every year in college football, monster rivalry, Richard Nixon
- 30:45Speaker 1: showing up to the Game of the Century in nine.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Arkansas football is everything because we don't have any pro sports.
- 30:51Speaker 1: We don't have NDA, we don't have NFL. We're in Nebraska,
- 30:54Speaker 1: we're Alabama. All we have is one team that we loved.
- 30:58Speaker 1: And it's embarrassing how much money that has been donated
- 31:01Speaker 1: into this program. And you can't make a bowl, and
- 31:03Speaker 1: you can't get the players, and you can't get everything
- 31:05Speaker 1: that we need to be a competent team in the SEC.
- 31:07Speaker 1: And frankly, I kind of sometimes wish we would move
- 31:10Speaker 1: to the Big twelve because we geographically don't fit and
- 31:12Speaker 1: on football teams on the gridiron, we don't fit with
- 31:14Speaker 1: the SEC. How do you really feel about Arkansas right now? Well,
- 31:18Speaker 1: I don't know. They asked me for a donation every year.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I'm tired of donating five thousand dollars and then paying
- 31:23Speaker 1: another two thousand dollars for my seats and for my
- 31:25Speaker 1: parking passes and for my time. My time is what's
- 31:28Speaker 1: really important. I mean, you walk into a stadium. I
- 31:31Speaker 1: think that's the problem with college football these days, is
- 31:33Speaker 1: that everybody loves college football so much. But if you
- 31:36Speaker 1: decide to take your family to a game, not only
- 31:38Speaker 1: is it overly expensive, but you're missing a hundred and
- 31:41Speaker 1: twenty eight other teams. Your time is just as important
- 31:44Speaker 1: on a Saturday. So if I'm going to take time
- 31:46Speaker 1: out to miss a d eight other teams playing football,
- 31:49Speaker 1: you better give me a good product on the field. Well, listen,
- 31:52Speaker 1: I think most people are probably not watching other teams
- 31:56Speaker 1: that might be a specific excuse for you, Which is why,
- 32:00Speaker 1: which is why you can also go way off the
- 32:03Speaker 1: radar and give me two teams, uh, two of the
- 32:08Speaker 1: other six that we've discussed. Um, whose win totals you like? Uh,
- 32:14Speaker 1: you'd start with Texas State. I love the Bob's and
- 32:19Speaker 1: there's so much to love about the Bob's. They they got,
- 32:21Speaker 1: you know, they fired their their head coach. Uh and
- 32:24Speaker 1: and they brought in Jake's Babotol, who was the offensive
- 32:26Speaker 1: coordinator at West Virginia. Uh. He was mostly responsible for
- 32:30Speaker 1: drawing up a place for everything you've seen from Will
- 32:32Speaker 1: Greer over the last couple of years and just the
- 32:34Speaker 1: amazing work at West Virginia. That's all because of the
- 32:36Speaker 1: head coach who's now at Texas State. But Jake s
- 32:39Speaker 1: Bavotol wasn't done there. I mean, even though he was
- 32:41Speaker 1: an offensive coordinator, he decided to go and get Bob
- 32:44Speaker 1: stick who was the head coach in Montana. Now on
- 32:47Speaker 1: FCS levels, Bob Stid is a really big deal. He's
- 32:49Speaker 1: kind of a legend in the offensive coordinating world. Uh.
- 32:53Speaker 1: He is the one who famously gave Dana Holgersson a
- 32:56Speaker 1: fly sweep that West Virginia used with Tavon Austin and
- 32:59Speaker 1: the two thousand and twelve Orange Bowl that scored seventy points. Uh.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Dana Olgerson came out interviews straight after the game and said,
- 33:06Speaker 1: I got that from Bob Stitt. Well, Bob stid is
- 33:08Speaker 1: now the offensive coordinator at Texas State. Uh. It's a
- 33:11Speaker 1: great It's a perfect matchup because coincidentally, the quarterback that
- 33:16Speaker 1: Bob Stid had at Montana had already transferred to Texas State.
- 33:19Speaker 1: So you're bringing in an offensive coordinator and you've got
- 33:21Speaker 1: his his quarterback from Montana, and that's who's gonna be
- 33:24Speaker 1: running the show at Texas State. Um. It's just there's
- 33:27Speaker 1: a lot of positives going on there. Everything from second
- 33:30Speaker 1: order wind totals, everything from net turnovers. Texas State is
- 33:34Speaker 1: really going to turn it around. And a sun Belt
- 33:37Speaker 1: that has massive turnover this year. Scott Satterfield appalition State gone,
- 33:41Speaker 1: he's moved up to Louisville. Uh. Neil Brown was a Troy,
- 33:45Speaker 1: he's gone. He's at West Virginia. So the sun Belt
- 33:47Speaker 1: is gonna look awful funky this year, and some teams
- 33:50Speaker 1: can make a jump in Texas State is going to
- 33:51Speaker 1: be one of them. I love when you talk about
- 33:54Speaker 1: completely obscure college football teams in an obscure conference of
- 34:00Speaker 1: coaches that nobody except for you and their new teams
- 34:03Speaker 1: have heard of. Bob is the man. I love it.
- 34:07Speaker 1: I can't wait that in Texas they gets the five wins. Uh.
- 34:10Speaker 1: You know, it'll be a great investment. So I'm looking
- 34:13Speaker 1: forward to them possibly making a bowl. What about the
- 34:15Speaker 1: East Carolina Pirates? You impressed? You're impressed by that, by
- 34:18Speaker 1: the way, Yeah, you knew that they were the Pirates.
- 34:22Speaker 1: They It's funny if you ever drive through North Carolina, Uh,
- 34:25Speaker 1: there are billboards up everywhere that says, this is the
- 34:28Speaker 1: best team in North Carolina and this is this is
- 34:30Speaker 1: Carolina's football team. I don't think that is a bold
- 34:33Speaker 1: statement with North Carolina, NC State, wake everything going on.
- 34:37Speaker 1: But East Carolina. I loved it this year. And I
- 34:40Speaker 1: kind of feel like everybody's starting to catch on because
- 34:43Speaker 1: wind turtles are out for all the teams now. And
- 34:45Speaker 1: I had to fire on three and a half and
- 34:47Speaker 1: I had to fire on over four and it was
- 34:49Speaker 1: you know, it was quiet for a while, but now
- 34:50Speaker 1: I'm starting to see that people are jumping on. They
- 34:52Speaker 1: got a bump for net turnovers, and they have a
- 34:54Speaker 1: huge coaching upgrade. Uh. Mike Houston comes in from James
- 34:58Speaker 1: Madison James mat Uson as an FCS powerhouse. He actually
- 35:01Speaker 1: won the FCS championship in seen uh and he made
- 35:05Speaker 1: it back to the championship, but they lost that year.
- 35:08Speaker 1: But still this is a guy who's on the rise
- 35:10Speaker 1: and he very much deserves to be at the FBS level.
- 35:13Speaker 1: They have a great duel for at quarterback that's coming
- 35:16Speaker 1: in one of the highest ranked quarterbacks I've ever had
- 35:18Speaker 1: at East Carolina. And look at this schedule. I mean
- 35:20Speaker 1: it's pretty it's laughable. East Carolina is gonna play Gardner Webb.
- 35:25Speaker 1: They're gonna play William and Mary, two teams you might
- 35:27Speaker 1: have not known that had football teams. Uh So East
- 35:30Speaker 1: Carolina should easily win those games. But after that they're
- 35:32Speaker 1: just hanging out that you know, they're playing teams that
- 35:35Speaker 1: are in the seller of college football Yukon, Old Dominion, Navy, Tulsa.
- 35:40Speaker 1: All of these are winnable games. They got the head
- 35:42Speaker 1: coach to do it. They have a great duel for
- 35:44Speaker 1: at quarterback. Over for easy money, I'm gonna throw one
- 35:49Speaker 1: wild card at you. But we have not discussed this one.
- 35:52Speaker 1: But last year the first weekend of the season, you
- 35:56Speaker 1: and Stuck you did a periscope talking about college football
- 35:59Speaker 1: and what are the opportunities night day and you handicapped
- 36:03Speaker 1: Sunny stony Brook and you talked about Sunny stony Brook
- 36:09Speaker 1: as if they were the Alabama Crimson Tide. So give
- 36:13Speaker 1: me your take on Sunny stony Brook right now. Sunny
- 36:17Speaker 1: stony Brook actually has one of the lowest ranked schedules
- 36:23Speaker 1: of all of all their conference of who they played,
- 36:26Speaker 1: one of the their conferences actually ranked eleven or twelfth
- 36:30Speaker 1: I think in all of their divisions. So, uh, they
- 36:33Speaker 1: have an easy schedule. Their returning production is mid tier,
- 36:36Speaker 1: so I would expect them to put up exactly what
- 36:38Speaker 1: they did last year. So what do you think of
- 36:41Speaker 1: their UH season win total? I'll put them at six
- 36:46Speaker 1: if if a book wants to get if a book
- 36:47Speaker 1: wants to get brave enough to put out a five
- 36:49Speaker 1: and a half, I'll happily take an over on Sunny
- 36:51Speaker 1: Stony Brooks. I mean, the fact that you had to
- 36:53Speaker 1: take on Sunny stony Brook makes me ask you this.
- 36:57Speaker 1: The last question, The last question bring him Young University. Yes. Uh,
- 37:05Speaker 1: if you don't love b y U this year, then
- 37:08Speaker 1: I don't want to know you. So I love by U. Uh.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I have some friends that went to b y U,
- 37:15Speaker 1: so I might have to wear some gear and hopefully
- 37:17Speaker 1: I can get away with it. But uh yeah, So
- 37:20Speaker 1: Coloni Sataki is the head coach there. He's a former
- 37:22Speaker 1: defensive coordinator at Utah, and he was kind of on
- 37:26Speaker 1: the hot seat last year. Uh, you know, trying to
- 37:29Speaker 1: find some some offense. This by us having some of
- 37:32Speaker 1: the worst offensive uh stat success rates and explosiveness. They
- 37:36Speaker 1: were just terrible in all of all of FBS football.
- 37:40Speaker 1: And uh that all changed last year when a kid
- 37:42Speaker 1: named Zack Wilson came into quarterback in the mid season. Um,
- 37:46Speaker 1: I have them at eight point one, their win totals
- 37:48Speaker 1: at six and a half. I would just get again
- 37:51Speaker 1: at the six and a half. I would take it
- 37:52Speaker 1: at seven. Um. You know, and they always play an
- 37:55Speaker 1: extremely tough schedule, but that's already baked into the number.
- 37:58Speaker 1: And I'm not really worried about that because they went
- 38:00Speaker 1: to Wisconsin last year and beat a very hyped Wisconsin
- 38:03Speaker 1: team B y U. I think this this will kind
- 38:06Speaker 1: of surprise people. B y U was the number one
- 38:10Speaker 1: team in the nation defending explosiveness in and you may
- 38:15Speaker 1: ask how good was that team and defending explosiveness? They
- 38:19Speaker 1: were number one last year, but of all the teams
- 38:22Speaker 1: in college football over the last four years since the
- 38:25Speaker 1: beginning of b y you put up the best defensive
- 38:30Speaker 1: ISO p p P rating in all of those four years.
- 38:33Speaker 1: That's what they did last year, and they returned most
- 38:35Speaker 1: of that defense this year. B y U is where
- 38:38Speaker 1: explosive teams go to die. Now back on the offensive
- 38:41Speaker 1: side of the ball. Study and I started making a
- 38:44Speaker 1: whole bunch of money on b y U in the
- 38:45Speaker 1: middle of the year. At Wisconsin. Win was not a fluke.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Uh you know, they started covering towards the end of
- 38:50Speaker 1: last season. November was great for them. They got to
- 38:52Speaker 1: the Potato Bowl. And for people that don't remember the
- 38:55Speaker 1: Potato Bowl, Zach Wilson, the quarterback, went eighteen for eighteen.
- 38:59Speaker 1: He had three seventeen yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
- 39:04Speaker 1: They are fantastic. They are great at stopping explosion plays
- 39:08Speaker 1: and they have a wonderful quarterback who loves to throw
- 39:10Speaker 1: it to the tight end to his running Backs to
- 39:13Speaker 1: the Wide Receivers by us the must watch this year
- 39:16Speaker 1: and they're an over six and a half play. Kelin Wilson,
- 39:19Speaker 1: your obsessiveness makes me care well, you know, I mean,
- 39:25Speaker 1: I have to live up to the nerd right. You
- 39:26Speaker 1: can't get an engineering degree and they'll be called a
- 39:28Speaker 1: nerd out of and I have to. I have to
- 39:30Speaker 1: make sure I bring the number, bringing numbers and sound dorky.
- 39:33Speaker 1: You are my nerd. Thanks for coming out. You got
- 39:41Speaker 1: any w W your Star Wars for me? No, today,
- 39:43Speaker 1: we're gonna let, We're gonna wait. We're gonna wait for
- 39:45Speaker 1: the next movie to come out, wait for the next
- 39:47Speaker 1: w W RAW. But I have no doubt that, as
- 39:50Speaker 1: you did with Game of Thrones, um, you will find
- 39:52Speaker 1: a way to sneak in some pop culture bets along
