- 0:18Speaker 2: And I'm so sorry.
- 0:19Speaker 3: I didn't realize you were performing as well, Penelope. Like,
- 0:24Speaker 3: was it like last night or something?
- 0:26Speaker 2: I don't know how it would be in your time.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Actually, I will be super transparent. I am literally in
- 0:30Speaker 4: my pajamas because I performed last night and it was
- 0:34Speaker 4: so amazing. But it was a little late. And then,
- 0:38Speaker 4: you know, I did a little bit of touring after.
- 0:40Speaker 4: I feel very bad about that. but no the show
- 0:44Speaker 4: was so amazing I think also I'm kind of like
- 0:46Speaker 4: dead because I woke up yesterday at five in the
- 0:49Speaker 4: morning because I had a show at seven and then
- 0:51Speaker 4: I had a show at night so it was really
- 0:53Speaker 4: funny because when I was like on my way to
- 0:54Speaker 4: the show at night I was like falling asleep and
- 0:56Speaker 4: I was like I'm gonna need seven Red Bulls with
- 0:59Speaker 4: sugar like but um no the show was amazing and
- 1:03Speaker 4: I also was I feel very um my gosh it's
- 1:07Speaker 4: so funny because now I always speak Spanish so now
- 1:10Speaker 4: when I do interviews in English I'm like how do
- 1:12Speaker 4: I say that word I feel very honored. I feel
- 1:15Speaker 4: very honored. I'm very happy that I'm able to be
- 1:18Speaker 4: a part of all of these events and shows. You know,
- 1:21Speaker 4: right now I'm going to go to Mexico and I'm
- 1:23Speaker 4: going to be singing in Pride. And that is.
- 1:26Speaker 4: Insane achievement for me because a lot of my fan base,
- 1:31Speaker 4: you know, I have a lot of LGBTQ community and
- 1:35Speaker 4: it's just so amazing that I can express myself and
- 1:39Speaker 4: express my music and express my new song, Diosa de
- 1:42Speaker 4: Cien Colores. And that song talks about don't be shy,
- 1:46Speaker 4: show all your colors. That song talks about those people
- 1:49Speaker 4: that aren't shy to show their colors and shine. And
- 1:53Speaker 4: it's just, I'm so excited. I'm so excited.
- 1:57Speaker 3: In our first interview, we focused on the idea of, like,
- 2:01Speaker 3: reinvention and what, like, the future might be like for you.
- 2:08Speaker 3: And I feel like you've, like, fulfilled it. Like, your
- 2:12Speaker 3: energy's still there. And it's crazy, like, how you said
- 2:15Speaker 3: that all your songs used to be in English and
- 2:18Speaker 3: now we've, like, fully moved over to Spanish. And it's,
- 2:22Speaker 3: like you said, like, it's hard to, like, formulate, like,
- 2:24Speaker 3: the interviews in English because, like, It just goes to
- 2:27Speaker 3: show how much you dedicated yourself to the community and
- 2:32Speaker 3: to the area. You fully threw yourself into it. And
- 2:35Speaker 3: it's like a respect thing. It's like a talent thing.
- 2:38Speaker 3: It's crazy how much you dedicated yourself to it. And
- 2:42Speaker 3: now you're kind of living... another life like through the
- 2:46Speaker 3: music and through like the community and that's what you
- 2:50Speaker 3: said in your first interview that's what you said you
- 2:51Speaker 3: wanted to do at the start you were literally just
- 2:54Speaker 3: starting out um kind of getting in the groove and
- 2:56Speaker 3: figuring things out um and it's like now it's weird
- 3:00Speaker 3: like these years later that you've achieved it and you're there.
- 3:04Speaker 4: The biggest I feel like the biggest thing has been
- 3:06Speaker 4: just like really like working hard and also like I
- 3:10Speaker 4: think like one thing I always say is it At
- 3:13Speaker 4: the end of the day, I'm very transparent about this
- 3:15Speaker 4: because I feel like nowadays a lot of artists are like, yeah,
- 3:18Speaker 4: everything's great. No, the industry is super hard. People are rude.
- 3:22Speaker 4: It is very frustrating. There's a lot of moments where
- 3:26Speaker 4: you're like, oh my gosh, this is horrible.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Why?
- 3:29Speaker 4: But I think like the most important thing is the passion,
- 3:32Speaker 4: you know? And I think you see that a lot
- 3:35Speaker 4: in a bunch of artists. For instance, Taylor Swift. I
- 3:38Speaker 4: look up to her and I will be super transparent.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I don't really listen to much of her music. I
- 3:42Speaker 4: used to. Now I don't that much just because I
- 3:44Speaker 4: think I have so many influences. But she is the
- 3:48Speaker 4: perfect woman. She's the perfect woman. But I look up
- 3:51Speaker 4: to her so much because I think she's one of
- 3:53Speaker 4: those people that you really just see. She's worked so
- 3:56Speaker 4: hard because of how much she loves it. The passion.
- 4:00Speaker 4: And that girl has been through so many things, but
- 4:03Speaker 4: she is still there writing music, making albums, going on
- 4:06Speaker 4: tours because that's her passion. And her passion is to
- 4:09Speaker 4: let people have fun and listen to her music. So
- 4:12Speaker 4: I think that's the most important thing. And I think,
- 4:14Speaker 4: you know, right now I'm in this place because I've
- 4:16Speaker 4: worked so hard and I have Used all my passion,
- 4:20Speaker 4: you know, because that's the most important thing in this industry.
- 4:24Speaker 4: You have to really love it.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it's what you said the first time around. You
- 4:30Speaker 3: still had that work ethic back then. And for like
- 4:34Speaker 3: a 15 year old, like having that work ethic, I
- 4:36Speaker 3: think it's really like paying off for you now because
- 4:38Speaker 3: I think it's taught you that dedication to your craft.
- 4:42Speaker 3: And I think it fully allows you to be yourself
- 4:44Speaker 3: as well. Like I feel like we're there now. I
- 4:47Speaker 3: feel like not just as a person, but as an artist,
- 4:49Speaker 3: I feel like you fully like. spread your wings and
- 4:53Speaker 3: like you're like there now I feel like we're there
- 5:00Speaker 3: the first interview the single was like the focus was
- 5:05Speaker 3: Taking Back Sunday Oh, wow.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, wow. It's so crazy. Like, I don't
- 5:14Speaker 4: even remember, like, my rock. Obviously, I do. But, like,
- 5:17Speaker 4: my rock era, kind of. It's, like, so weird to me.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Because now, and I'm so excited for you to listen
- 5:23Speaker 4: to the new music that's coming out. Because it is
- 5:26Speaker 4: so cool. Also, because I'm producing all my own stuff now.
- 5:31Speaker 4: So that's very, very cool. But I don't know, just
- 5:34Speaker 4: remembering Taking Back Sunday, sometimes I listen to it. It's
- 5:37Speaker 4: actually really funny. I'll tell you something. The other day,
- 5:39Speaker 4: I was on a date, and this guy was like,
- 5:41Speaker 4: oh my God, I found all these old songs. And
- 5:43Speaker 4: I was like, turn off your phone. I was like, no.
- 5:46Speaker 4: I was like, anyway, I'm leaving. I got to go.
- 5:49Speaker 4: I'm sorry. And it's so funny because I'm not embarrassed
- 5:53Speaker 4: by it, but it's just weird. I don't want to
- 5:55Speaker 4: listen to it.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:58Speaker 2: I think it's that growth. that growth element.
- 6:03Speaker 3: I think because your style has changed so much, I
- 6:05Speaker 3: think you've been influenced more by where you are. And
- 6:08Speaker 3: I think you've probably learned like what it's about and
- 6:11Speaker 3: how to kind of create music in that style.
- 6:14Speaker 2: And I think you've lost that like rock edge, like,
- 6:17Speaker 2: you know, that's what you were aiming for. That's what
- 6:19Speaker 2: we spoke about. That's what we were aiming for.
- 6:22Speaker 4: I was trying to, I was trying to be the moon,
- 6:24Speaker 4: but baby, I'm the sun. I love it. I think
- 6:31Speaker 4: that was, like, a really big thing, too. I think, like,
- 6:33Speaker 4: I was in that age where I was, like, I'm
- 6:34Speaker 4: going to be cool and, like, everything is, like, dark. And, like, now...
- 6:38Speaker 4: And I'm really, like, proud of myself because now I
- 6:40Speaker 4: feel like I've really, like, found Penelope personality-wise. Like, this
- 6:44Speaker 4: is me. And I am just a ray of sunshine, darling. No.
- 6:49Speaker 1: No, seriously.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Like, I am just so myself, you know? Like, now...
- 6:53Speaker 4: If I want to wear hot pink and glitter, I will.
- 6:56Speaker 4: You know, if I want to be a rocker one day,
- 6:58Speaker 4: I will. Like, I'm just, like, very me. And I
- 7:01Speaker 4: think that's, like, the hardest thing about, like, this, you know,
- 7:05Speaker 4: kind of, like, artist stuff is that when you're growing,
- 7:09Speaker 4: when you're younger, you really try hard to be a
- 7:13Speaker 4: little bit, like, cool and edgy. and I think at
- 7:16Speaker 4: the end of the day and didn't work like for me,
- 7:18Speaker 4: for Penelope, because that wasn't me, you know? And I
- 7:21Speaker 4: think right now, the reason why I'm so happy with
- 7:23Speaker 4: my music and with myself and with everything is because
- 7:27Speaker 4: I am doing what I love and I'm doing the
- 7:29Speaker 4: music that I love. And that I really feel like
- 7:33Speaker 4: is getting me places. Cause when you have like passion
- 7:36Speaker 4: for those types of things and you really love it
- 7:37Speaker 4: and you really believe in the song and you believe
- 7:39Speaker 4: in the lyrics, that'll get you way farther. So I'm, I'm, I'm,
- 7:44Speaker 4: I don't know. It's just so, I love it. I
- 7:46Speaker 4: love it. I love the fact that we talked like
- 7:49Speaker 4: so long ago and now we're talking again and it's like,
- 7:52Speaker 4: we're going through like. the past and now we're we're here.
- 7:56Speaker 3: It's very scary I feel like I'm not a grim
- 7:59Speaker 3: reaper but I feel like.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Sometimes I feel like whenever like when we do like
- 8:04Speaker 5: a redo it feels like I don't know how you
- 8:07Speaker 5: describe it like a like a not a time traveler
- 8:10Speaker 5: but like I feel like I.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Bring yeah I mean you are a time.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Traveler I feel like lately I froze I throw like
- 8:16Speaker 3: the time back at people and I show them like
- 8:18Speaker 3: all this stuff and I'm like what do.
- 8:20Speaker 4: You think that is so slay yeah you are you are.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Scary not a grim reaper but like yeah no definitely
- 8:27Speaker 5: not a grim reaper I'm not.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Signaling you know I'm not signaling downfall but like it's
- 8:32Speaker 3: like um I don't I don't even know what the
- 8:34Speaker 3: word is I don't know what the word is but
- 8:35Speaker 3: it's really weird looking back wait no but it's.
- 8:37Speaker 4: It's so it's so beautiful though because I also love
- 8:40Speaker 4: this because we're also talking about like you know the
- 8:43Speaker 4: past and how like yeah no so actually you're you're
- 8:46Speaker 4: you're like not only a time traveler you're like the
- 8:48Speaker 4: best because you're like talking about how we got here
- 8:51Speaker 4: you know like it's great i love it i love it.
- 8:54Speaker 3: This is why i'm so glad that we've done this
- 8:56Speaker 3: um because it's so it's really interesting to kind of
- 9:00Speaker 3: look at how um the industry kind of operates and
- 9:03Speaker 3: how an artist operates um and One of the things
- 9:07Speaker 3: I wanted to ask you was, have you, like, because
- 9:10Speaker 3: you were so young when you started, and you're still
- 9:13Speaker 3: so young, but, like, have your ambitions, like, changed? Like,
- 9:17Speaker 3: have your goals, like, shifted? Is this stuff that's kind
- 9:20Speaker 3: of settled with you? Because I feel like that. Like,
- 9:23Speaker 3: for me, when I started, I was like, oh, the
- 9:25Speaker 3: world's the oyster in it, and I threw myself at everything,
- 9:27Speaker 3: and this, that, and the other. And then these days, now,
- 9:30Speaker 3: I tend to be a bit more careful and a
- 9:32Speaker 3: bit more, like.
- 9:34Speaker 3: I don't know how to describe it you kind of
- 9:35Speaker 3: become more grounded and more like aware realistic kind of
- 9:39Speaker 3: more realistic yeah that's it like more realistic um and
- 9:44Speaker 3: you've kind of just like excelled and you've done so
- 9:46Speaker 3: much um how do you kind of gauge the success
- 9:50Speaker 3: and and yeah what what is that kind of like
- 9:53Speaker 3: well yeah.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Like well I mean I think like definitely I have
- 9:58Speaker 4: changed my my goals a little bit but like they're
- 10:03Speaker 4: still there but I think maybe they're more I've looked
- 10:06Speaker 4: more into like myself I think like you know when
- 10:10Speaker 4: we talked I think like one of the big things
- 10:12Speaker 4: is like I would love to like sing in a
- 10:14Speaker 4: stadium you know like I would love to sing in
- 10:16Speaker 4: a And I still would love to do that. And
- 10:21Speaker 4: I know I will be doing that very soon. But
- 10:24Speaker 4: I think one ambition that it's crazy. It's so crazy
- 10:28Speaker 4: to me because I never even like really thought about
- 10:31Speaker 4: it that much. But now since I'm really like producing
- 10:34Speaker 4: my own music and stuff, like the most important thing
- 10:37Speaker 4: to me is doing the music that I love, you know?
- 10:40Speaker 4: And like, that's, that's my goal. I think like when
- 10:44Speaker 4: I was starting, I was doing a lot of music,
- 10:46Speaker 4: but that's the hard part. You know, it's not that
- 10:49Speaker 4: I didn't like the songs. I think it's just, I
- 10:51Speaker 4: was finding myself finding my sound. So the song would
- 10:54Speaker 4: come out and then like later I'm like, you know,
- 10:56Speaker 4: like it was never like really like hitting the vibe. Um,
- 11:00Speaker 4: so I think like one of a really, really big
- 11:02Speaker 4: goal is definitely that to, keep doing what I'm doing
- 11:06Speaker 4: and like do the music that I love because right
- 11:08Speaker 4: now I'm doing that and I have never felt more
- 11:11Speaker 4: connected you know like with myself with music and and
- 11:16Speaker 4: it's so it's so beautiful because at the end of
- 11:19Speaker 4: the day I think it was also one of those
- 11:20Speaker 4: things like I'm a musician and I was asking myself
- 11:23Speaker 4: and I was like why not a bad thing but
- 11:27Speaker 4: I was like Why am I doing like all these
- 11:29Speaker 4: pop songs when I'm a musician, when I listen to
- 11:32Speaker 4: so much music? I'm so excited for you to listen
- 11:34Speaker 4: to the new stuff that's coming out because it's very cool.
- 11:36Speaker 4: But I listen to so much music. I listen to
- 11:38Speaker 4: Mexican music. I listen to English music. I listen to
- 11:41Speaker 4: Colombian music. I listen to Haitian music. So it's like
- 11:44Speaker 4: I listen to so much music. Why am I doing this?
- 11:48Speaker 4: You know, I kind of went in this other route
- 11:50Speaker 4: and I'm so happy. So that's one goal. And I
- 11:53Speaker 4: think another goal is. And I think like this is,
- 11:57Speaker 4: and I think that's why I said a lot of
- 11:58Speaker 4: my goals have changed in the perspective of like myself.
- 12:02Speaker 4: I think a really big goal will be to never
- 12:04Speaker 4: lose myself ever because I think that, again, I'm not
- 12:09Speaker 4: talking good about myself, but I think that, you know,
- 12:13Speaker 4: recently I have really been working really hard and I
- 12:16Speaker 4: have this positive energy that I love about myself and
- 12:20Speaker 4: I hope, and I hope, and it's going to happen
- 12:22Speaker 4: because that's my mantra, never lose yourself. I hope that
- 12:25Speaker 4: people don't get to me in the future. I hope
- 12:27Speaker 4: that I don't, I don't become an angry person. I
- 12:30Speaker 4: hope that, you know, and it's crazy because like, you
- 12:34Speaker 4: really never know, you know? And I feel like I
- 12:35Speaker 4: always tell my friends and they're always like, Oh, but like,
- 12:38Speaker 4: you'll never lose yourself. And at the end of the day,
- 12:40Speaker 4: I mean, look at half of the biggest artists in
- 12:42Speaker 4: the world, you know, they, they get a little bit
- 12:44Speaker 4: crazy and everybody's like, Oh my gosh, they're crazy. What's
- 12:47Speaker 4: wrong with them? But I think they're not crazy. I
- 12:49Speaker 4: think that they just lose themselves because of the hate
- 12:52Speaker 4: because of how people treat them because of the industry.
- 12:54Speaker 4: So I think that's like my biggest goal to never
- 12:57Speaker 4: lose myself. And like every morning I always tell myself,
- 13:00Speaker 4: you're beautiful. You are a diva, you know, like never
- 13:03Speaker 4: forget who you are and never like stop being humble.
- 13:06Speaker 4: You know, like I hope, and I know, but like, I,
- 13:09Speaker 4: I never want to lose myself and I never want
- 13:11Speaker 4: to be that person. That's like not grateful. You know,
- 13:13Speaker 4: like I, I never want to take things for like
- 13:15Speaker 4: granted and I always want to be like my humble self.
- 13:19Speaker 4: from the girl that was singing, taking back Sunday, you know?
- 13:21Speaker 4: So that's my biggest goal to always remember that. Cause
- 13:24Speaker 4: I feel like that is the point in your life
- 13:27Speaker 4: where it's going to be the hardest. Cause like, if
- 13:29Speaker 4: you lose yourself and you start acting like you're like
- 13:32Speaker 4: the coolest person ever. And I mean, if you're Paul McCartney,
- 13:35Speaker 4: you're allowed to act like that, but I've heard Paul
- 13:38Speaker 4: McCartney super nice. You know what I mean? So it's
- 13:40Speaker 4: like those types of things that that's my biggest goal.
- 13:44Speaker 4: I just never, never lose Penelope. I never want to
- 13:46Speaker 4: lose who I am.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I feel like you have, like, an oomph now.
- 13:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I have, like, this aura, you know?
- 13:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:55Speaker 3: It's like, I don't know whether that's, like, because, like,
- 13:59Speaker 3: you're producing, like, you're fully, like, there.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Like, it's you, right? I feel like that's maybe what
- 14:04Speaker 2: it is because I haven't learned much Spanish since we
- 14:10Speaker 2: last spoke. I haven't learned much.
- 14:12Speaker 3: And so, but for me, I can really tap into
- 14:16Speaker 3: like the instrumental side and the production side and I
- 14:18Speaker 3: can hear it and enjoy it from that.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Right.
- 14:21Speaker 3: And the music that you make today, it's like the
- 14:25Speaker 3: instrumentals and like the backing and like everything that goes
- 14:29Speaker 3: behind it, like musically, like aside from like lyrics and
- 14:32Speaker 3: stuff like that. it's so like beautiful and just so
- 14:36Speaker 3: well put and and just all together is that that
- 14:40Speaker 3: I mean that's you isn't it like that is literally
- 14:42Speaker 3: you that's literally you and I think that's what the
- 14:45Speaker 3: difference is I think that's where it is I think
- 14:47Speaker 3: that's where it.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Is and I think like Diosa de Cien Colores is
- 14:51Speaker 4: like a really important song for me as well because
- 14:55Speaker 4: I wrote that song with my ex-boyfriend let me but
- 14:59Speaker 4: um I love him he's great but I think like
- 15:02Speaker 4: we all it was such an amazing song as well
- 15:04Speaker 4: because I was writing it with somebody that I trust
- 15:06Speaker 4: so much so it was such an amazing session you
- 15:10Speaker 4: know like it was just so great and I always
- 15:14Speaker 4: say this I always say like again never forget to
- 15:17Speaker 4: be grateful and I'm so grateful for my dad of
- 15:19Speaker 4: course I think I remember telling you how he's a
- 15:22Speaker 4: producer and you know, he has taught me so much.
- 15:25Speaker 4: I mean, Dios Es Sin Colores is the first song
- 15:27Speaker 4: I've ever produced. And it's crazy because not to tune
- 15:32Speaker 4: my own horn, but like, I think it came out
- 15:34Speaker 4: really cool, the production. And it's crazy because I literally,
- 15:37Speaker 4: I remember after we finished the song, I called my
- 15:39Speaker 4: dad and I was like, this is all because of you. Like,
- 15:43Speaker 4: I was like, this is because you have shown me
- 15:45Speaker 4: so much. And I'm just so excited. And it's so
- 15:48Speaker 4: great too, that I have amazing family and amazing dad
- 15:52Speaker 4: that after I am done, I can be like, Hey, like,
- 15:55Speaker 4: what do you think? And like, it's so great. Cause like,
- 15:57Speaker 4: since he's shown me so much, he's somebody that I trust.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Like I trust their opinion. I want to know their opinion.
- 16:02Speaker 4: So that song is really, really important to me. And also,
- 16:06Speaker 4: especially because, you know, I think like, I mean like
- 16:10Speaker 4: that song, we kind of wrote it about one of
- 16:14Speaker 4: my friends that, um, kind of always, I don't know,
- 16:18Speaker 4: I feel like he's always like hiding himself when he's
- 16:21Speaker 4: the most beautiful person ever. And we kind of wrote
- 16:24Speaker 4: that for him. And it's just so beautiful now that,
- 16:27Speaker 4: you know, Pride is going on and that I was
- 16:29Speaker 4: able to like take it out during Pride because I
- 16:33Speaker 4: think that it has such an impact on a lot
- 16:38Speaker 4: of people, you know, and I think that the lyrics
- 16:40Speaker 4: are so beautiful and the lyrics talk about, you know,
- 16:43Speaker 4: at the end of the day, like, I want you
- 16:45Speaker 4: to go out and feel amazing and shine because you
- 16:48Speaker 4: are a queen of a hundred colors. Like, I love it.
- 16:52Speaker 4: I love it. I love it.
- 16:54Speaker 3: I think it's especially like amazing in the world that
- 16:56Speaker 3: we're in now. It's a bit like, it's quite different to.
- 17:00Speaker 2: How we started.
- 17:01Speaker 3: It's a bit more like repressed and a bit more um,
- 17:06Speaker 3: close minded. And like, now it's really nice for you
- 17:10Speaker 3: to kind of take charge of that and, and push
- 17:12Speaker 3: through that and get through the barrier and, and take
- 17:15Speaker 3: a stand.
- 17:16Speaker 4: And I, and I, and I always say that, sorry,
- 17:18Speaker 4: I interrupted you.
- 17:19Speaker 2: I talk a lot.
- 17:20Speaker 4: You know that, you know, I talk a lot. Um, I,
- 17:22Speaker 4: I think it's also that I think like, I love
- 17:24Speaker 4: this song as well, because I think that nowadays, like
- 17:27Speaker 4: in this world, there's so much hatred and so much cruelty. And,
- 17:32Speaker 4: you know, I think this is a, a, we need
- 17:35Speaker 4: a song like this, you know, and we need a
- 17:37Speaker 4: song that represents who we are, you know, and that
- 17:40Speaker 4: we're queens. Sorry. You know, so I love it. I
- 17:44Speaker 4: love it.
- 17:45Speaker 3: I feel like the sound, like the sound is what
- 17:49Speaker 3: will translate as well. I mean, even if people here,
- 17:52Speaker 3: like at home here, they don't, you know, maybe the lyrics,
- 17:55Speaker 3: they don't understand them, right?
- 17:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I feel like the beat and the melody.
- 17:58Speaker 4: Yeah, you can feel the vibe.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Down to it you can get down to it no
- 18:02Speaker 3: problem whatsoever and we need more of that i think
- 18:05Speaker 3: the world needs to dance yeah um we really really
- 18:07Speaker 3: need um more of it and also there's like a
- 18:10Speaker 3: visual like change here as well with this single um
- 18:14Speaker 3: it's really like stunning stuff like the the photography and
- 18:18Speaker 3: like just the artwork and like the color schemes the
- 18:21Speaker 3: fonts uh like the calligraphy like all that kind of
- 18:24Speaker 3: stuff and like the social medias everything around it um
- 18:29Speaker 3: it feels like, this single feels like you. Like, it
- 18:32Speaker 3: really feels like, not just you as an artist, but
- 18:35Speaker 3: you as a person. Like, you can feel it. Like,
- 18:38Speaker 3: from a listener's point of view, like what we talked
- 18:41Speaker 3: about earlier, like with stuff like Taking Back Sunday and
- 18:43Speaker 3: stuff like that, you can see the difference completely. Like,
- 18:47Speaker 3: you can see a total difference and change. Not just musically,
- 18:50Speaker 3: but stylistically, visually, everything. Because it's you. And I feel
- 18:55Speaker 3: like now we've reached that point, I think that's why
- 18:57Speaker 3: I was so eager to do this because I really
- 19:00Speaker 3: wanted to highlight that. Like, you know, once and for
- 19:04Speaker 3: all that you're there and you're now like the sky's
- 19:07Speaker 3: the limit because I imagine you carry on creating stuff
- 19:10Speaker 3: like that and, you know, keep going forward.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Like the sky is literally the limit.
- 19:17Speaker 4: That's very true.
- 19:20Speaker 2: But do you feel like more like yourself as an
- 19:23Speaker 2: artist now? Do you feel like you're there? Do you
- 19:25Speaker 2: feel that?
- 19:26Speaker 3: Totally.
- 19:27Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think I'm there yet because I think,
- 19:30Speaker 4: you know, I have a long way to go. This
- 19:33Speaker 4: is a long ride, but I am so happy because
- 19:38Speaker 4: this is the first time that I do feel very myself.
- 19:41Speaker 4: And it's one of those things too that I, other
- 19:43Speaker 4: artists as well, I think I got more inspired by
- 19:46Speaker 4: them too. You know, for instance, Somber I feel like
- 19:49Speaker 4: he's very himself and that's the reason why you connect
- 19:52Speaker 4: with him so much you know his music is so
- 19:55Speaker 4: him his style is so him his person and that's
- 19:58Speaker 4: because you know like it's I don't know he really
- 20:01Speaker 4: I really like his social media and all that stuff
- 20:05Speaker 4: he's very funny but I really like how he really
- 20:06Speaker 4: shows himself and it just feels so real And I
- 20:09Speaker 4: think that's the most important thing. And I think recently,
- 20:12Speaker 4: you know, a lot of people have liked this new route,
- 20:16Speaker 4: this new music, this new look, because it feels real,
- 20:19Speaker 4: you know? And I think like, for instance, like artist wise, like,
- 20:23Speaker 4: you know, visually, that was like another thing, you know,
- 20:26Speaker 4: as much as I love glitter and blue and like
- 20:28Speaker 4: all these pinks and stuff. I just think that on
- 20:32Speaker 4: a daily basis, that's not me. On a daily basis,
- 20:35Speaker 4: I am a blazer girl. on a daily basis. I want,
- 20:38Speaker 4: I am, I am Tom Ford vibes, you know? So
- 20:41Speaker 4: it's like, I really like took it down to myself
- 20:43Speaker 4: and I was like, I want everything to be real.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Like I want everything to be real. Like I want
- 20:47Speaker 4: to take down everything on my Instagram. I want this
- 20:49Speaker 4: to be real. My dad is human. I've lived my
- 20:53Speaker 4: entire home life with cigars. I've always smelled them and
- 20:57Speaker 4: I love them. So I was like, I want to
- 20:59Speaker 4: show everybody that I like cigars, you know, like just
- 21:01Speaker 4: like very real things that like, honestly is very me. And,
- 21:05Speaker 4: it's an amazing, amazing feeling. Because I think before, I
- 21:09Speaker 4: had this very pop music. I was very pop. I
- 21:12Speaker 4: was very happy all the time. And I am always happy.
- 21:15Speaker 4: But I kind of had this wall, and not in
- 21:20Speaker 4: a bad way. Just like, this is what I'm going for.
- 21:22Speaker 4: This is the branding that I'm going for. And now
- 21:24Speaker 4: it's so amazing, because now I just feel like I
- 21:26Speaker 4: can be who I am. I feel like When it
- 21:28Speaker 4: comes to the art, when it comes to music, I
- 21:30Speaker 4: have been so Penelope. So now it's great. If I
- 21:33Speaker 4: want to post a story of me being crazy, I
- 21:36Speaker 4: feel comfortable with that. So it's those type of things.
- 21:40Speaker 4: And I'm just so excited also because I have a
- 21:43Speaker 4: song coming out in August with an amazing friend of mine.
- 21:47Speaker 4: His name is Darman. He's so good. And it's actually
- 21:51Speaker 4: going to be coming out in the UK. So we're
- 21:53Speaker 4: so excited. And it's in English and it is like
- 21:56Speaker 4: a house vibe, techno vibe. And I'm so excited. There's
- 22:01Speaker 4: so many things coming and it's so great that I
- 22:04Speaker 4: can take this song out with him because he's so talented.
- 22:08Speaker 4: And there's so many things happening, you know? And that's
- 22:11Speaker 4: another thing. Now, if I do a song with somebody
- 22:13Speaker 4: that I think is talented, let's take it out. You know,
- 22:16Speaker 4: like now I have the freedom of like, OK, this
- 22:19Speaker 4: is who I am. I also love this music. I
- 22:21Speaker 4: want to take this out. I think before I was
- 22:24Speaker 4: a little bit more careful because I was going through
- 22:26Speaker 4: this route. And I just like I said, I looked
- 22:29Speaker 4: at myself and I was like, girl, you're a blonde
- 22:31Speaker 4: who sings pop. What else is there? You know, I
- 22:36Speaker 4: need something else. I need something else. So, yeah.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Your energy has not changed.
- 22:43Speaker 3: At all and I love it I love it I
- 22:46Speaker 3: absolutely love it I'm living for it.
- 22:49Speaker 4: Your energy hasn't changed either. But my energy feeds off
- 22:52Speaker 4: your energy. That's the problem. We're both like, yay.
- 22:58Speaker 2: But yeah, it's amazing. The energy's not shifted. It's not changed.
- 23:02Speaker 2: And I love it.
- 23:03Speaker 3: And I really wanted to ask you, I really regretted
- 23:07Speaker 3: last time.
- 23:07Speaker 2: I was looking back and I was like, oh, I
- 23:09Speaker 2: didn't ask the last question.
- 23:10Speaker 3: And my last question is always about, it goes around
- 23:13Speaker 3: a proudest moment.
- 23:15Speaker 2: And I never asked you, I was kicking myself. I
- 23:16Speaker 2: was like, oh, that's so annoying. Why did I not
- 23:18Speaker 2: do that? But there was another question that I really
- 23:20Speaker 2: wanted to ask you.
- 23:21Speaker 3: And it's really basic, but it's, I think it's, it's
- 23:24Speaker 3: really like, I think you'd be able to answer it really,
- 23:27Speaker 3: really well. And do you have any advice for people
- 23:33Speaker 3: like girls, women, like starting out in the industry and
- 23:37Speaker 3: going forward, because you've been at this quite a long
- 23:40Speaker 3: time now and it's, I'm sure you've had like ups
- 23:42Speaker 3: and downs and you've had many shifts and you're you're
- 23:47Speaker 3: so well spoken and your energy is just absolutely infectious.
- 23:51Speaker 3: And it has been, you know, for ages, you know,
- 23:56Speaker 3: since you started. And I feel like to navigate something
- 24:00Speaker 3: as difficult as this and do it as well as
- 24:02Speaker 3: you have and come out the other end of it and.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Still be so.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Um invigorated um and busy because it can be quite
- 24:10Speaker 3: difficult managing all of those different aspects that go into
- 24:12Speaker 3: everything because people don't realize how much goes into even
- 24:15Speaker 3: the littlest minute detail right yeah um do you have
- 24:18Speaker 3: any advice um for people either just starting out or
- 24:21Speaker 3: maybe who are like struggling or having like a low
- 24:24Speaker 3: period and need to be picked back.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Up what would your advice be.
- 24:29Speaker 4: Well i think One thing I do have to say,
- 24:32Speaker 4: and I hate being those people, you know, when you
- 24:35Speaker 4: ask somebody something, they're like, oh, well, it's not easy.
- 24:37Speaker 4: I hate being those people. But I am going to say,
- 24:39Speaker 4: I think I'm going to give this to the people,
- 24:43Speaker 4: the advice for the people that maybe want to start.
- 24:46Speaker 4: Do it, girl. But you have to have so much
- 24:51Speaker 4: drive because it is not easy. And I think the
- 24:55Speaker 4: hardest thing that a lot like, you know, we all
- 24:57Speaker 4: have to realize, and it's not only as an artist,
- 24:59Speaker 4: it's that sports, if you want to be a lawyer, anything,
- 25:03Speaker 4: you have to work very hard. And nothing is going
- 25:07Speaker 4: to come. Nothing is going to come easy. You have
- 25:10Speaker 4: to get on it, on your social media, on everything,
- 25:13Speaker 4: and keep going. Because if you stop, especially if you're there, there, there,
- 25:18Speaker 4: and then you stop... No, you know, so I think
- 25:22Speaker 4: like one thing is like be ready because there's also
- 25:25Speaker 4: a lot of sacrifices that you have to make. You know,
- 25:27Speaker 4: now you're not going to be able to hang out
- 25:29Speaker 4: with your friends all the time. Maybe, you know, you're
- 25:32Speaker 4: going to be in the studio. You should be in
- 25:34Speaker 4: the studio. You know, for instance, right now I'm actually
- 25:37Speaker 4: making my outfit for Mexico by hand and that's taking
- 25:41Speaker 4: a very long time, but that's the sacrifice that I'm
- 25:44Speaker 4: making because I have a vision and I want it
- 25:46Speaker 4: to be perfect. So that's me, my back hurting, like
- 25:50Speaker 4: doing it one by hand. So there's a lot of sacrifices,
- 25:52Speaker 4: but I will say, and I want to say this
- 25:55Speaker 4: to everybody that has those moments of like, kind of like,
- 26:00Speaker 4: you know, a little bit sad sometimes. And I just
- 26:03Speaker 4: want to say, please feel that. Do not feel scared
- 26:07Speaker 4: to feel sad. Do not feel scared to be frustrated
- 26:09Speaker 4: because that is going to push you more. You know
- 26:12Speaker 4: what I mean? Don't be scared, but don't close yourself either.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Cause I feel like a lot of people, they start,
- 26:18Speaker 4: maybe they get sad, maybe they get frustrated and then
- 26:20Speaker 4: that's it. No, if you're sad and frustrated, feel that
- 26:24Speaker 4: if you want a whole day to cry and be sad,
- 26:26Speaker 4: do it, please do it. Cause you need those days.
- 26:29Speaker 4: Cause not everything can be happy in sunshine. You know,
- 26:32Speaker 4: you need those days. So please feel it. But just
- 26:35Speaker 4: remember after you're done feeling it and I would give
- 26:38Speaker 4: you a day, I would give you a day. After
- 26:40Speaker 4: you're done feeling it, grab that, grab that anger, make
- 26:45Speaker 4: it into happiness or grab that anger and make it
- 26:47Speaker 4: into an angry song or grab that. You know what
- 26:50Speaker 4: I mean? Like feel, feel the feelings. That's the most important.
- 26:55Speaker 4: And yeah, I think the most important as well is
- 26:58Speaker 4: to believe in yourself. I think it's very hard for
- 27:00Speaker 4: us to believe in ourselves. And please be around people
- 27:04Speaker 4: that help you shine because it is already hard enough
- 27:07Speaker 4: for all of us, not as artists, just people in general.
- 27:11Speaker 4: It is already people in general. We're all people in general,
- 27:13Speaker 4: but it is already very hard for anybody to shine.
- 27:19Speaker 4: So we need people to help us shine, you know?
- 27:21Speaker 4: And I think that's one thing that's very hard because
- 27:24Speaker 4: when you start getting into this, there's going to be
- 27:26Speaker 4: so many people that make fun of you. There's going
- 27:28Speaker 4: to be so many people that maybe go to your show,
- 27:30Speaker 4: but then they make fun of with their friends. Oh,
- 27:32Speaker 4: my God. Yeah, she sucks. She you know what I mean?
- 27:34Speaker 4: So it's like and I think like when I first
- 27:37Speaker 4: started this, I tried so hard and there was a
- 27:40Speaker 4: very big moment where I had very fake friends just
- 27:42Speaker 4: because I didn't want to be alone. And now, oof,
- 27:45Speaker 4: I way rather be alone, you know? And, you know,
- 27:48Speaker 4: I'm grateful I have found, like, those people in my
- 27:51Speaker 4: life that I can trust. But just be ready because
- 27:56Speaker 4: this is a very big sacrifice in your life and
- 27:58Speaker 4: there's going to be a lot of moments. Even your family,
- 28:01Speaker 4: even your– anybody, anybody can be jealous, you know? And
- 28:04Speaker 4: not even in a bad way, you know? So I
- 28:08Speaker 4: think that's– A big thing. Maybe I put too much
- 28:11Speaker 4: information out. But what I'm trying to say, I'm making
- 28:13Speaker 4: it sound horrible. No, it's great. I totally recommend. I
- 28:18Speaker 4: just do want to put out there, you have to
- 28:20Speaker 4: believe in yourself. You have to feel your feelings. Never
- 28:24Speaker 4: try to, that's what I would always do. I would always,
- 28:27Speaker 4: when I would get sad, I would like try not
- 28:29Speaker 4: to cry. That is so horrible. If you want to cry, cry.
- 28:32Speaker 4: If you are angry, be angry. But just remember to
- 28:37Speaker 4: never stay that way. remember take that anger and make
- 28:40Speaker 4: it into happiness take that anger and write a song
- 28:42Speaker 4: if i'm super sad write a song if you want
- 28:45Speaker 4: to be alone girl grab your guitar or make a
- 28:48Speaker 4: track or without nothing write lyrics write a poem and
- 28:51Speaker 4: i think that's another thing i feel like a lot
- 28:54Speaker 4: of times it's always like oh you have to be
- 28:55Speaker 4: doing music all the time that's also not true you
- 28:57Speaker 4: know you can write notes i do that all the
- 29:01Speaker 4: time like i just write notes you know I write sentences.
- 29:05Speaker 4: It doesn't even matter. And I'll never use them, ever.
- 29:08Speaker 4: But it just helps me a little bit. And one
- 29:10Speaker 4: advice that I do want to give to everybody is
- 29:13Speaker 4: listen to music, please. Don't close yourself off to music
- 29:18Speaker 4: that you've never listened to. For instance, if you're a
- 29:20Speaker 4: UK artist and you're doing indie, go listen to reggaeton,
- 29:25Speaker 4: you know? Go listen to Be'ele. Go listen to Shakira.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Go listen to Maluma. Don't close yourself off to music.
- 29:31Speaker 4: And I think that's one thing that I did a lot.
- 29:34Speaker 4: And now all my new music that's coming out, when
- 29:36Speaker 4: you listen to it, you're going to be like, wow,
- 29:37Speaker 4: this is weird because there's a lot of influence. things
- 29:40Speaker 4: from so many different areas, you know? There's one song
- 29:43Speaker 4: that has a little bit of a Mexican vibe. There's
- 29:46Speaker 4: another song that has Kanye West mixed with Mexican. It's
- 29:49Speaker 4: like very... Very weird. And I think that is something
- 29:53Speaker 4: that I recommend for everybody. Please listen to music. Listen
- 29:55Speaker 4: to music that you were like, why would I ever
- 29:57Speaker 4: listen to this? This is not going to help me. No,
- 29:59Speaker 4: it will. And not only music, but listen, you know,
- 30:04Speaker 4: I think like if you're watching a TV show, if
- 30:07Speaker 4: you're watching White Lotus, listen to the little flutes that
- 30:10Speaker 4: they use. I actually just have a song that's coming
- 30:13Speaker 4: out and it has kind of that white Lotus flute vibe,
- 30:15Speaker 4: you know? And that's the thing, like listen to all
- 30:18Speaker 4: of those little samples and those things, because that can
- 30:21Speaker 4: really help you find who you are. So that's my advice.
- 30:26Speaker 2: I couldn't, I couldn't agree more.
- 30:28Speaker 4: I am not, you know, I am not Paul McCartney
- 30:31Speaker 4: or Bruno Mars to give anybody, but I hope I
- 30:35Speaker 4: just want, I want like, I just, for me, it's like,
- 30:37Speaker 4: if you're going to do this, I want you to succeed.
- 30:39Speaker 4: You know, I want you to succeed. So if you're
- 30:43Speaker 4: going to do this, just know, girl, there are sacrifices.
- 30:46Speaker 4: You have to work very hard and you have to
- 30:48Speaker 4: believe in yourself. You have to believe in yourself because
- 30:52Speaker 4: you are the only one that is going to get
- 30:54Speaker 4: you somewhere. Nobody else. Nobody else. Nobody else. Yes, you'll
- 30:58Speaker 4: have people that help you. Yes, you have people that
- 31:00Speaker 4: believe in you, but you are the one that is controlling.
- 31:03Speaker 4: And if you're not controlling, then you're going to end
- 31:06Speaker 4: up doing music you don't like. you know? And I
- 31:09Speaker 4: think like, for me, like I was doing so much music,
- 31:11Speaker 4: not that I didn't like, but it just wasn't me.
- 31:14Speaker 4: And now I have found myself because I have realized like,
- 31:17Speaker 4: this is me. I'm going to do me. I'm going
- 31:19Speaker 4: to do me.
- 31:20Speaker 2: So yeah. I'm so glad I asked you that. I
- 31:24Speaker 2: feel like I.
- 31:25Speaker 4: Gave a lot of information. Hopefully I didn't sound negative.
- 31:29Speaker 4: I feel like I was really hard. You're not going
- 31:32Speaker 4: to be able to hang out with any friends. You can't,
- 31:36Speaker 4: you can't.
- 31:39Speaker 3: No honestly 100% agree I could not agree more especially
- 31:44Speaker 3: about the music music is what brings us together you
- 31:48Speaker 3: meet people in the strangest of places because of music
- 31:50Speaker 3: it really is it's like a life force that we
- 31:54Speaker 3: kind of feed from it's amazing and I agree about
- 31:57Speaker 3: listening going out and listening to everything you possibly can
- 32:01Speaker 3: because you find stuff again in the strangest places that
- 32:04Speaker 3: you wouldn't expect and that's the magic of it and
- 32:06Speaker 3: that's why we do it it's amazing and I'm going
- 32:10Speaker 3: to now ask you Penelope my final question this is
- 32:14Speaker 3: the one that I wanted to ask you in the
- 32:16Speaker 3: first one for some reason I didn't and it's kind
- 32:20Speaker 3: of the most reflective the reason I wanted to ask
- 32:22Speaker 3: you because it's like the most reflective and kind of
- 32:24Speaker 3: deep one when I get deep. What would you say
- 32:29Speaker 3: is your proudest moment so far?
- 32:34Speaker 4: I think like before I used to say like when
- 32:37Speaker 4: I opened for Karol G, that was a very proud moment.
- 32:40Speaker 4: But I think my proudest moment now that I have
- 32:43Speaker 4: like found myself has been me coming to Colombia, learning Spanish,
- 32:51Speaker 4: singing in Spanish, the fact that I got signed with
- 32:54Speaker 4: Sony here in Latin America, all of those things, I
- 32:58Speaker 4: think that that is like the most proud. And it's
- 33:02Speaker 4: just more of like, you did that girl. You did
- 33:04Speaker 4: that girl because you wanted to and you believed in
- 33:09Speaker 4: this amazing country. And, you know, it's just, I think
- 33:13Speaker 4: that's my proudest moment. I think so. I think I
- 33:16Speaker 4: used to always say like, oh, when I would do shows,
- 33:18Speaker 4: which that is a proud moment. But I think now
- 33:20Speaker 4: that I have tapped in more into like myself, That
- 33:23Speaker 4: is my proudest moment, you know, a little gringa. That's
- 33:26Speaker 4: what they say here, a gringa, a white girl. Well,
- 33:29Speaker 4: technically my parents are Latin, but still, I'm like a
- 33:31Speaker 4: white girl. But I'm saying like, you know, like a
- 33:34Speaker 4: little white girl, like coming here to Colombia, learning Spanish.
- 33:36Speaker 4: I am a Colombian. I'm adopted, by the way. Like
- 33:39Speaker 4: I am super Colombian. Yeah. singing in Spanish, starting to
- 33:44Speaker 4: produce my own music, really finding myself here in Colombia.
- 33:50Speaker 4: You know, I've only lived here for five years and
- 33:51Speaker 4: I already love this place. It feels like home. And
- 33:54Speaker 4: I think that is my most proudest moment ever. And
- 33:58Speaker 4: I think Colombia has really helped me find myself. So
- 34:02Speaker 4: I think it's really, really cool that I came here
- 34:05Speaker 4: without even knowing Spanish, without even knowing music here and
- 34:09Speaker 4: you know now I'm doing this thing and I also
- 34:11Speaker 4: did that amazing achievement I signed with my first you
- 34:14Speaker 4: know label that's crazy so I think I think that's
- 34:18Speaker 4: my big my proudest moment ever
