- 0:00Welcome to the surprise episode 600. Here we are with our We're going to be
- 0:05loud. We're going to be proud. No, we're not going to be proud. Proud is not a
- 0:08good thing to be. We're going to be loud. We're going to be all on. We've
- 0:11got lots of things for you. Boys and we're proud. We've got nothing planned.
- 0:15I just came out very strong. You can see from that loud. I'm in a hotel. People
- 0:21get mad at me. And don't be that proud either, Matt. Just don't just be
- 0:24confident. Yeah, good point. Yeah, there's some things that you're allowed
- 0:28to be proud of and there's other things that it's I don't The word proud just
- 0:34proud just the word just seems to be tarnished these days.
- 0:38By boys. Yes. I mean, it always has been tarnished by
- 0:43boys, hasn't it? If someone's going to tarnish that word, boys tarnish a lot of
- 0:46stuff, proud or otherwise. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, Jane Austin knew it when she wrote
- 0:51Pride and Prejudice, which I assume was about Proud Boys.
- 0:55Proud Boys and Prejudice.
- 1:01Welcome to Multiple Nerdgasm with your
- 1:05hosts Matt, Luke, and Dan. Multiple
- 1:10Nerdgasm, your guide to all
- 1:13things nerdy.
- 1:20Well, maybe you can help me actually. Um, Luke, if you don't have anything for
- 1:24an open, I'd like to I'd like to open with a new segment that I like to call
- 1:28Dan gets real time tech support live on air, right? Oh, so maybe you can help me
- 1:33with something. I use the Apple AirPods, right? So, automatically I'm [ __ ]
- 1:37out. I'm out. Yeah, I'm dumb. Um, lately they just keep stopping. They just stop.
- 1:44They stop. Right. How old are they? Okay, so here's the thing. They're not
- 1:48that old. Okay, but I have a spare pair. So, I just switched and I linked those
- 1:53instead and they started stopping and so I thought, huh, must be my phone doing
- 1:59something watching a movie last night on my
- 2:04MacBook. Mhm. It was stopping on there, too. What is going on? Something in my
- 2:10house is interrupting the Bluetooth signal. Now, now I do have a question. When you say
- 2:16stopping, no, go, go, go. I was just going to ask, is it only you having this
- 2:20problem? Seems to be, but I'm the only one who wears Bluetooth headphones, so
- 2:26it's not unusual. Yeah. When you say they stop, do you mean they disconnect?
- 2:30Cuz when they disconnect, they make a noise. They go boom boom. They do.
- 2:33Sometimes Sometimes it does that sound and sometimes it just stops and I don't
- 2:37notice that sound. But would be I've had suggest one thing.
- 2:43Go on. No, no, you go first. My suggestion was just be careful because I
- 2:47do have sets as well and sometimes the set I'm wearing will disconnect to
- 2:51connect to the pair I'm not wearing. I've had that happen. Yeah. So, AirPods
- 2:56have this feature where they will automatically switch to whatever it
- 3:00thinks you're looking at. I don't know if you It's It's a good feature most of
- 3:03the time, but maybe that's [ __ ] up where it thinks I'm So, it's it's actually when
- 3:09I'm trying to listen to a podcast, it thinks I want my computer on. Yeah. So,
- 3:14you can turn that off. Uh, but you've got to do it on every device,
- 3:18unfortunately. So, you've got to go into the settings and say automatically
- 3:22connect to this. I forget what it's called. Automatically connect to this
- 3:25when you think I'm using it. Just turn that off and make it manual. That's what
- 3:27I do because I found it would just I'd be on listening to something and I go,
- 3:32I'll do something on the computer and then go, oh, computer, huh? I'm [ __ ]
- 3:36in the middle of something. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That would happen in the reverse
- 3:40more often, I would think, too. When you're like on your computer, oh, I just
- 3:42get something on my phone. And it's like, oh, we're doing phones. Yeah, I
- 3:45can see it being a good feature, but I can also see it being very annoying.
- 3:49Like, it's a feature works most of the time. Yeah.
- 3:53But the times it doesn't work, it's like [ __ ] paper cuts. Yeah. Sure. Yeah.
- 3:59Yeah. Tech designers around a table going, "You know what would be great is
- 4:03if your headphones just always knew what you were doing and just switched
- 4:06accordingly." Yeah. Great. Great. Write that down. Write that down. And someone
- 4:09will have to make that happen. I I reckon it's going to get better though.
- 4:15I reckon it will get better. Yeah. Specifically, I turned it off because,
- 4:20and I don't know why, um when I would mow the lawn and I'd be listening to a
- 4:24podcast or an audio book or something, when I would get near my office, it
- 4:27would connect to my laptop. Oh. And then funny like Yeah. You're trying to listen
- 4:33to music or whatever you listen to mowing the lawn and then it would go n
- 4:36office work time. I'm now connected to your laptop. Yeah. So, I just turned
- 4:40that feature off. M yeah. And then you heard the Zoom call that you were meant
- 4:44to be in while you were out on the lawn. That's right. I didn't my boss to hit
- 4:49the lawn. I go for a walk anytime I've got a Zoom call that I don't have to
- 4:53participate in. I just put the leash on Charlie and I'm like, we're going I
- 4:56going to listen along. No one's going to ask any questions. I've got a lot of
- 5:00toys on my desk. You got a lot of what?
- 5:04Office boy. Yes. Just office boy. Proud office boy.
- 5:11an office of proud boys. I'm going to apologize now for my audio, which is I
- 5:17can't hear it, but it's probably not that great. And also, they're probably
- 5:20delayed cuz I'm on hotel Wi-Fi. Mhm. So, listeners, it's not as bad as you might.
- 5:25Okay. If I'm talking over somebody, I apologize. And I've done that to Luke several
- 5:30times. And Ironically, you did it while you were explaining it.
- 5:37We'll get better at this one day. It's only 600 episodes. We still haven't
- 5:40learned how to handle that, but one day. Give me hand signals.
- 5:45Just raise your hand if you want to speak. Does that mean you're slightly in
- 5:49the past or slightly in the future of us right now? I'm in the past. In sync. Okay.
- 5:56One, two. No one's counting with me. Four. Forget it. I was waiting till you
- 6:02got to three and then I thought we were all going to go surprise or something.
- 6:04Oh, I remember when we tried to sing happy birthday once.
- 6:08And that was the most painful thing we've ever done. Happy birthday is a painful song.
- 6:14Anyway, has anyone worked out what you meant to do while people are singing it
- 6:17at you? You know, you're meant to feel awkward because you don't really want it to happen.
- 6:22[Music] Yeah. Matt, you mentioned you were on holiday. Um, I know where you are
- 6:28obviously. Um, the listeners don't, but I would like you to tell us. like we
- 6:33don't know, but then tell us about the thing that we know you're at. Yes. Okay.
- 6:37Uh I'm in New Jersey at the moment. I'm in Aspbury Park actually. Um and I'm
- 6:43going to uh VCF East, Vintage Computer Federation East. And uh we've had a
- 6:49Federation. That's uh that sounds very, doesn't it? I think I usually say fairated
- 6:56fair computers. But that explains what I'm doing better I think than vintage
- 7:01computer federation like cuz it's it's like a it's basically I did you know I
- 7:05did it last year listeners may remember uh sorry witnesses may remember witnesses
- 7:11um it's retro computer stuff. So there's
- 7:16um there's a big consignment room you can sell all your old stuff that opens
- 7:20today. It wasn't open yesterday. It's a Saturday for the record. Um, and uh
- 7:26talks by uh some I think interesting people. [ __ ] nerdy stuff though. So
- 7:31like very technical schematics up on the [ __ ] projector
- 7:36like you got to want to be you got to be interested to it's not like not like
- 7:41where it's like Yeah. I joined an online um vintage computer group at one stage
- 7:45and left because I was like oh this is this is way out nerding me. Yeah. Yeah,
- 7:51like you listen to listen to talks on people of like who who invented, you
- 7:55know, ways to do [ __ ] HDMI output conversion. So that Yeah. And I'm like,
- 8:01okay, okay, that's that's how it works. I don't need to
- 8:05know. The first talk I went to yesterday was about the sound Commodore sound like
- 8:11various types of sound on Commodore computers. The first one being the pet
- 8:15and then it was literally schematics like so this pin out controls you know
- 8:18the beeping sound if you wanted it to be able to do music you have to hook up
- 8:22this this card on the back and this these pins went here and this and that
- 8:25and like I think it's interesting but I can completely understand why someone
- 8:30might not think that's very yeah I find it very amazing what they've
- 8:36done with it but going to that level of detail I'm out but I'm those early
- 8:41computers just specifically talking about audio that don't have like sound
- 8:45cards. They don't have even speakers at some point. It's just like
- 8:50components making noises that they managed to trick into being the
- 8:55soundtrack for a game. The theme of this year is the the sound of retro. So, it's
- 9:00all most talks are kind of geared around that. And there was a guy yesterday who
- 9:03he's a game developer. He worked on Nintendo Entertainment
- 9:07System, Game Boy, uh Atari games. this really interesting talk just hearing
- 9:13about the start. Exactly. And and then he had like photos of what it was like
- 9:18and it's literally like if you were a kid like us in that during that period
- 9:22what you thought making video games was like he was at home with a [ __ ] Atari
- 9:26ST hooked up to this Nintendo dev kit that they've sent him and he's
- 9:30contracted by these companies to just make video games. He he was living the
- 9:34dream. Yeah. Right. a fascinating talk and he showed like these uh die shots of
- 9:41the CPUs for one was for an Atari and one's for the Nintendo Entertainment
- 9:46System and he pointed out really interestingly same CPU like the
- 9:51internals but the Nintendo has um all this extra stuff around it like like
- 9:58it's like I guess four times the size and he said that's all audio. Oh wow.
- 10:04Because the Atari's had really bad Yeah. like audio and then and then one of the
- 10:10things that City Things contributed a lot to the Nintendo system is that you
- 10:13just had this good music. It could play all the time. It wasn't like a
- 10:18afterthought. It had dedicated hardware for it. [ __ ] interesting. Never even
- 10:23thought of that before. And that's that's really interesting. But even I
- 10:26remember like like big games like the main Atari like the big games they were
- 10:31only done by one or two people. It wasn't like you had a team working on
- 10:34them. I remember because you hear the story of ET which is what they say sort
- 10:39of killed the guy just came off making he got laid off around the time that
- 10:43happened incidentally like a lot of people wasn't he didn't have a lot of
- 10:47money a guy came on he just finished making something I got hey we need you
- 10:51to make it and you've got like two or three weeks away you go type of thing
- 10:55and it was just one guy who had to do it. Yeah. Yeah. Well my one of my
- 10:59favorite games almost quit the game industry. Yes. Yeah. Flashback. You guys are aware of
- 11:05Flashback, right? From Delphine. So, Deline had Yes. One of certainly one of
- 11:10my favorites, but Delphine had this uh license property for the Godfather,
- 11:16right? Oh, yeah. Um and they were going to make a the Godfather game and
- 11:21somewhere along the way just the [ __ ] nerds at Deline were like, "What about
- 11:24we do Godfather like [ __ ] in the future and shit?" And they were like,
- 11:27"Yeah." And they just [ __ ] ran with it. And then when the guys from the
- 11:30studio from like Paramount came in, they were like here is what it is. They were
- 11:34like this looks nothing like that took it away, gave it to Ocean to US gold or
- 11:39one of those, you know, property do whatever you want. And they were like,
- 11:44ah, should we just rename it anyway? Release
- 11:49it. That was that was the game. Well, that's what I'm starting to see.
- 11:55Like um I was reading um I've seen some interviews lately like people from
- 12:00Bethesda and stuff and they're going like the reason why like Starfield
- 12:04didn't do that well is they don't have that freedom that they once did that was
- 12:08very big at Bethesda like a lot of the cities and stuff that were built for
- 12:13were just people doing a side project cuz they loved it. Now it's really is
- 12:17much more of a business crunch get it out. People aren't going off and
- 12:22spending extra time because all they're doing is working on doing their part to
- 12:25get the game out. They're not getting that enjoyment part out of it, which is
- 12:29sad. If you're wondering if that crunch was a thing back then, yeah, he said
- 12:33that when it got to close to he said deliver a game had to be delivered ready
- 12:38for Christmas, which meant you had to finish them you ideally in July, right?
- 12:43And when it would get to that deadline, he said you would work from, in their
- 12:47case, like noon to like 3:00 a.m. And everybody everybody did it. And people
- 12:52think, oh, did did every everybody contributed. The artists were doing
- 12:56programming at that point. Everybody was just [ __ ] we got to get this [ __ ]
- 12:59thing done. I also think it would have been harder back then because there's no
- 13:03second chance like you have now. Now the day one patches Yeah. whatever went out.
- 13:08And that's why sometimes you see a game where there's like placeholder images or
- 13:12something in there. It's just we'll come back to this and they never do. Yeah.
- 13:19Yeah. Just you remind this is a rat hole, but um when you said that everyone
- 13:23everyone was was doing the crunch. It just reminded me of a story I heard this
- 13:26week. Um I think it was on another podcast, but I can't remember which one,
- 13:30but it was about um when Kennedy visited the space center. I guess the one that's
- 13:35now called Kennedy Space Center, right? but wasn't wouldn't have been then um
- 13:39and was just meeting everyone and shaking their hands and he met the
- 13:42janitor but he didn't know he was the janitor just there was a man standing
- 13:45there and he put his hand to shake his hand and said what do you do here and
- 13:49the janitor said well trying to put a man on the moon you know and it's just
- 13:54like everyone who worked there felt like that's what their job was no matter what
- 13:59part of it you were doing he just didn't want to say
- 14:03yeah well I just cleaned there's a clog in the toilet
- 14:08or more likely no one said that and that was just a great story that someone made
- 14:12up somewhere. I mean it is a good story. Yeah. But no, I think the crunch back
- 14:16then I think may have been different to what it is now. I think crunch less uh
- 14:21exploitative. Well, crunch I don't know. Yeah. Would have been I think fun back
- 14:25then. I know it may not have been, but it just sounds like everyone was there
- 14:28together working on this like to try and get the goal. I've done overnight edits
- 14:32and stuff like the night before something goes to broadcast and it's
- 14:35grueling but it's really fun like you remember those nights with great stories
- 14:40and stuff but it's not you know 3 months worth of an employer just expecting you
- 14:44to be at work 24/7. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think you know I
- 14:48don't think the crush we've got now is anywhere near the same as what we do
- 14:52have. Although but Matt I do want to know uh have you bought anything yet?
- 14:57Uh, no. I bought the the the the t-shirt for this year. That's about it so far.
- 15:03So, a lot of the vendors and stuff don't open until today. So, Friday is kind of
- 15:07like uh more limited stuff. Like the talks are on, but a lot of the stuff's
- 15:11not ready yet. It's super nerd day, correct? Today is Oh, you mean Friday?
- 15:17Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Fun and games from now, I guess. Yep. So,
- 15:23I'll head over after this. Um, one thing he mentioned he ported a bunch of games
- 15:30including um arcade game called Crossbow and some other stuff and Frogger. He did
- 15:34Frogger for the Sega Genesis, right? And he was telling saying every time he was
- 15:38telling stories about Genesis. Yeah. Yeah. It was like the last Genesis game.
- 15:42Mhm. Apparently. Wow. And he was saying for for Crossbow he and his his his I
- 15:48guess co-workers had to take a video camera and film the arcade game and then
- 15:53make the game from it. And then for Frogger, he said they um were given a
- 15:57you know the the like the ROM of Frogger and the Genesis version Frogger actually
- 16:04had the arcade ROM in it and he just references the art that's in the kind of
- 16:10stuff and then afterwards somebody said any questions? Someone said, "Yeah, when
- 16:13you were asked to port a game, did they ever actually give you the code or
- 16:18design documents or or any of that kind of stuff?" And he was like literally
- 16:22never. Never. They just gave me the game. You know that game, make it for
- 16:28us. Yeah. And they had to play it and get good at it enough to see what level came
- 16:34next to make that. Yeah. They had to film the arcade machine and they said
- 16:39they basically just hours and hours and hours until they he said you had to make
- 16:42sure you've seen everything that the game can do and then you got to
- 16:45replicate it. Incredible. Yeah. Weird. Yeah. You really think like cuz we've
- 16:50got this game, we already have all the information and we want you to make a
- 16:53copy of it. Why don't we give you the information? Never worked that way. You
- 16:57would think that they would have it. Yeah. But even not just ports, like
- 17:01ports, you would think that makes perfect sense. But what what used to
- 17:04blow my mind were when completely different developers were making a
- 17:08Jurassic Park game for Genesis, Nintendo, DOSs, Amigga, Alien 3 is an
- 17:14example. Alien 3. Yeah. M and actually 3 is a funny one because I prefer the
- 17:20gameplay on the Mega Drive, but I prefer the look of the Super Nintendo one. Yep.
- 17:25So, if they could put them together, you'd have a perfect game. Just join.
- 17:30Yeah. Just work it out what the best game as well. Jurassic Park on Nintendo
- 17:35was completely different to Jurassic Park on Sega. But yeah, it's sort of
- 17:39it's making sense in my head now though because back then there were the console
- 17:44wars. So, you weren't going to share between. Oh yeah. Nothing was it? Yeah.
- 17:49If you make a game for one, it's not going to work on the other one. No. Like
- 17:54now that's an issue. But art assets, you could have one creative director
- 17:59designing art assets, you know. You could have one level designer. Yes.
- 18:03You'd still have to have two different programming teams, but yeah, different
- 18:07dev kits and everything. Yeah. What a time. Yeah, that's what I'm doing
- 18:13here. There'll be more today and tomorrow. I will report back with some
- 18:17more next week, I guess. And show us what you purchase. I want to know what
- 18:20you buy. I know you're going to buy something. I'll buy something. I'm probably I can't
- 18:25buy too much. You're going to try not too much. Yeah. The consignment area is
- 18:30like twice the size this year. I've seen where it is. I just haven't seen what's
- 18:34in there. But Oh, you will. It's going to be dangerous. You mentioned the PET,
- 18:38Commodore PET before, and that is my favorite computer from a design point of
- 18:42view, right? I just love the design of there's been no computer before or since
- 18:46that was so aesthetically pleasing to my eyes than Pet and I I'm pretty sure that
- 18:53when they were making uh Severance and they were designing those retro future
- 18:57computers that they had a pet as a reference, right? Cuz it's that kind of
- 19:02strange UFO shape, right? Severance. Yes.
- 19:0820 minutes north of me. Yeah. is the office building. Oh, the building. Oh,
- 19:14so I will be going there today. Yes. Great. To take some photos.
- 19:19Would they let you in the lift? Go in the lift. Go up there. Assuming I won't be allowed
- 19:24to go inside at all. Yeah. But I would have the exterior like the building that
- 19:28they Yeah. Very cool looking building.
- 19:32Um, so, uh, I learned a fact about severance that I think is is is funny
- 19:39and and interesting and good. Uh, but no one would ever notice this, but I just
- 19:43like that they pay this level of detail. Did you know that the things shot in the
- 19:48severance building are shot on digital video and the things shot in the real
- 19:52world are shot on film? So, one has a more realistic character, one has a very
- 19:58stark character, except in the last
- 20:00episode where Hel and Mar are running
- 20:06through the corridors for their own freedom, that is shot on film because
- 20:10for them that is their real world. Yeah,
- 20:16I didn't know that. I noticed the one I think you said it was directed by the
- 20:20cinematographer. The one that had a lot of incredibly
- 20:25Yeah. like different mediums and I noticed it a lot there. Yeah. Yeah. Yes.
- 20:31Yeah. They really lent into it, didn't they? Especially the flashbacks with him
- 20:34and the wife looked like they were shot on 8 mil or something. Yeah. Exactly.
- 20:38Yeah. More noticeable than beautiful. Yeah. Yeah. Ah, severance. But I've I've been
- 20:44thinking that do you remember ages ago um uh what's Perifractic's wife's name?
- 20:51Lady Fractic. Lady Fractic. Um I mean that's not her name, but that's what we
- 20:56know her as. That's right. Yeah. I don't know her. I literally don't know her
- 21:00real name. I don't think I recall what her real name is. I don't. But um I
- 21:05don't recall hers. She I She may not have ever She may not want us to know.
- 21:10I'm sure she doesn't want us to know. I mean, she's an actress. Yeah. I'm sure
- 21:17we could find out. Not in a weird way, but you could find out if you really
- 21:19wanted to. I'm sure. Anyway. Yeah. Yeah. All right. I'm also thinking you could
- 21:22find out where she We've We've made this weird for some
- 21:26reason. Yeah. Yeah. It doesn't It's really not. Anyway, all I was going to
- 21:30say was there was an episode where she and Jose Oh, that's a joke from our fan.
- 21:35Never mind. Yeah. Yeah. No, better as a nonsequiter. There's an episode where
- 21:40they make this
- 21:42um they 3D print this retro housing for
- 21:47a Raspberry Pi and um put an LCD screen and and and put retro pie on it. Yeah,
- 21:53I've seen that one, I think. Yeah. And I watched it at the time. I went, "Oh,
- 21:57cool. That'll be fun to make." And this whole season of of uh severance, I've
- 22:02been like, I [ __ ] want a retro computer in my house, but I don't
- 22:06necessarily just want like an Atari ST or something that it's like, okay, this
- 22:10is my thing and I can now only, you know, I've got to be obsessed with this
- 22:13one particular video. I've got a dedicated desk to this thing. But if I
- 22:16had something like that and just I could just play all my retro games on it. I've
- 22:20been I mean, I don't have a 3D printer, but I'm sure I could I'm sure I could
- 22:24get someone to print it for me. Anyway, it's companies that would do it. I don't
- 22:27know how expensive it is. Yeah, I I suspect probably quite expensive. You
- 22:33could probably get one 3D printed with some tits on Etsy as we discovered last
- 22:37week in the after party. True. Very true.
- 22:42You can definitely get from Etsy 3D printed housing just for the retro
- 22:47pies, just for the Raspberry Pies, but that are the size of a circuit board,
- 22:51right? But that's not what I want. I want something with a screen.
- 22:58We'll see. Well, speaking of games, some big news
- 23:05this week. Switch 2's here, baby. Dune. Switch two.
- 23:11Luke's unimpressed. Yeah, it's lovely looking piece of machinery. Oh, it looks
- 23:15so good. 10 times more powerful than the existing Switch. I do have to ask, how
- 23:22does that compare to an Xbox? An actual console. Yeah. Well, I mean, they don't
- 23:28really Yeah. So, I mean, I think they're doing
- 23:34their own thing numbers. It almost doesn't matter though because the the
- 23:38the cloud games like the Skyrim, the
- 23:43Resident Evils that I was playing, uh I can't remember what else I was playing
- 23:47that was cloud. I think Skyrim runs on the device, doesn't it? Actually, Skyrim
- 23:51does run on the device and it looks [ __ ] incredible. It looks way better
- 23:53than it should be. And again, it's a 15-y old game, but the Resident Evil 7
- 23:57and 8 that I played on it [ __ ] just look as good. The the thing that was
- 24:02with the with the Switch, I'm not really going for like graphics that I want on
- 24:07something else. That's not the type of game that you want. Maybe you can now
- 24:10like that we didn't because that was a limitation before. Honestly though, even
- 24:13with the consoles we got to, remember even when the Series X was coming, I
- 24:17wasn't really concerned about graphics by that stage. I was just I'm looking
- 24:19forward to faster loading times, frame rate, and I know we've talked about
- 24:23this. I like higher frame rate. This does up to 120 frames a second on the on
- 24:29the device. Like that's higher than I can get with my Xbox on the TV. So yeah,
- 24:34it's only going to be 700 here. I didn't think I cared about frame rate until
- 24:39Starfield was like a [ __ ] at 24 and it was like not enough. It's not enough. I
- 24:44think they patched that but uh I don't know I haven't gone back to it. So
- 24:48neither haven't seen it. And in fact I'll take a quick segre but I do want
- 24:52there's lots more switches but I'll just quickly say I I've quit another game
- 24:56guys. So, a vowed I was into it for, you know, a week and then I'm not into it.
- 25:02But I I I played quite a bit of uh of uh
- 25:06Luke, what are we playing? Yeah, it's boring. I don't like how six hours. I
- 25:12probably played four hours of it, but I'm not going to play it for another two
- 25:16hours. Time to give up. The problem with that game is, and I actually I'm upset
- 25:21about it, is because they've made so many different endings and so many
- 25:24different story lines. It's you can't just go out and explore and experience a
- 25:29lot because I I don't know what the story is. It's because there's too many stories
- 25:35and they everyone's got a little story, but it's not the the what's the game
- 25:39story? England is the story trying to escape governor. Yeah. But yeah, I like
- 25:45that you can avoid combat except that it makes it boring because I'm like, well,
- 25:50you know, I should I should have to fight some people occasionally. As I
- 25:54said, I turn the difficulty down on that so quickly and cuz just like even when
- 26:00you're exploring and trying to find things, not everything. It's not like
- 26:03another game where you can search everything. It's only certain things you
- 26:06can search and the stuff you were finding, you weren't finding a lot of it
- 26:10at the normal setting. So, and bullets were very hard to come by and Oh, yeah.
- 26:16And you I I don't know if you can get better guns down the track, but all the
- 26:20guns I had, the the the shotgun, the rifle, and the handgun, all was single
- 26:25shot and then reload. So, like if something attacked you, like if you
- 26:30didn't kill them with one shot, you were dead. Because you can get better with
- 26:34the as long as you're fighting humans, they're all headshot, one shot, they're
- 26:39dead. the second you get to a monster. Yeah. You're panicking and you're just
- 26:43firing all of your bullets and then you die. Yeah. So, I was desperate to find something
- 26:49new and I was like, "Okay, well, I I did download and install Stalker 2 a couple
- 26:54of weeks ago. I didn't really give that a good enough code." So, I played that
- 26:57for a good hour or two last night. It's very good, but [ __ ] it's difficult. I
- 27:02went back to the menu thinking I probably had it on normal and was going
- 27:05to pop it down to easy and discovered it was already on easy.
- 27:09It's just very challen It's dark. It's [ __ ] dark. That game is not your head
- 27:15at all. And there seems to be [ __ ] monsters that you can't even see that'll
- 27:20just come up behind you and kill you without you even knowing they were
- 27:23there. Like it's very unfair. I'm going to play more, but I I I died like four
- 27:28or five times in the same spot last night. It was like, "Fuck you. [ __ ]
- 27:32you." Before we do get the Switch though, I can say I started playing a
- 27:35new game today um South of Midnight.
- 27:39Oh, the Louisiana one. Yes. So, it comes out to Game Pass this week.
- 27:45I spent the 15 bucks to get the premium upgrade so I can play it now. I'm
- 27:49actually quite enjoying it. It's not a difficult game. Like, the puzzles are
- 27:53quite simple. The girl and then and the big fish, right? Yes. Big catfish. The
- 27:58combat's sort of quite simple and the story is just nice and interesting. And
- 28:01so I definitely recommend looks pretty good. Yeah, it comes out to Game Pass on the 9th.
- 28:07Okay. So, you you started playing this already? Yes. How does it stack up to uh
- 28:14Assassin's Creed? Because the other thing that I'm interested in playing is
- 28:18that which I'll obviously have to purchase. Yes. Well, Assassin's Creed I
- 28:21actually also finished this week. Okay.
- 28:26Right. Um they they are very different games. You can't really compare them.
- 28:31Um, fair enough. South of Midnight, I think, has a more there's a story that
- 28:36you're enjoying throughout the entire game. Like there's there's stuff you're
- 28:39finding, there's talking happening, there's stuff you find, you read.
- 28:42Assassin's Creed very very big game. And sometimes you just get to point where
- 28:46I'm running around killing people. So I think this is kind of what I want at the
- 28:50moment. I think Yeah, it depends. Like this South of Midnight will be like a
- 28:53very $110 though. I don't know. Oh, I got Ubisoft Plus.
- 29:00Yeah, and I did consider just getting Ubisoft Plus until I was sick of the
- 29:04game, but I may end up playing more than $110 by the end of it anyway. So, I
- 29:08don't know. That's why I haven't done it. It's cuz it's going to take me two
- 29:11years to finish it. Yes. And they'll release another one in that time.
- 29:16Oh, what's next? I don't know what's actually next, but
- 29:20but now we should get back to Switch because we did tease that quite a lot.
- 29:24Speaking of the prices of games, we might as well come back to that first of
- 29:27all. So, it's got some the games look very nice. They look uh, you know, more
- 29:30impressive. I got to retract what I said about Metroid 4. Uh, the Switch version
- 29:35does look very similar to the Metroid Prime version, which makes sense cuz
- 29:38it's the same console on the Switch 2. They showed video of that and I was
- 29:41like, "Oh, this looks like what I was expecting." Yeah, looks pretty nice.
- 29:44Much more crispy and looks nice. Um, but
- 29:48the games are 80 US, so I don't even know what that means for Australians.
- 29:55I'm sort of looking at the prices of the games now and it's sort of like a bit of
- 29:58a mixture. So, it depends what sort of game you're talking about cuz some of
- 30:01them they're sort of starting at $104
- 30:04now. 80 USD is 130 USD right now. Sorry,
- 30:10130 USD. So, it might be it could be 130 bucks you pay for this. Cyberunk
- 30:14Ultimate is going to be 114. I mean, like I was just talking about
- 30:18not knowing if I wanted to pay 110 for Assassin's Creed, but I definitely don't
- 30:22want to pay 130 for Mario Kart. Even though not even open world Mario
- 30:27Kart, which looks [ __ ] great, it's still it's going to make me think twice
- 30:31about it cuz it's like so much money. Mind you, the good thing about the
- 30:35Switch, there's so many sales. I only ever browse through the the discounted
- 30:41Switch library. Yeah, there's always stuff that I want
- 30:45on sale. Yeah, you're better off
- 30:48coming SD card for a Switch game. A micro SD card and then waiting for
- 30:55sales. Yes. And they're just stocking up.
- 31:01Yeah. They're looking at the price of buying
- 31:04them like brand new in the case, which none of us actually do that anymore. No,
- 31:10no. Let's be the price digitally as well.
- 31:16Um, at launch though, you'll want them. That's the thing. Like Metroid Prime 4,
- 31:21I'm going to want that. But that's probably worth 10 and something bucks.
- 31:25Especially to you. Love Metroid, you know? So, like I don't know. We've all
- 31:28got stuff we I don't have time though. Like the the like my time availability
- 31:34has gone down and now the game prices are going up. So, it's kind of like the
- 31:37math has changed a bit, you know? So now you got to get back a child. You're
- 31:42going now you'll get back Yeah. You'll get back to the only one maybe two games
- 31:45a year. Oh, that's a good point. It'll take you that long to play them and you
- 31:50can't afford more than that. That's a good point. It's got a new button on it
- 31:55that uh brings up the the chat friend interface, which looks really cool. like
- 32:01it looks like you you can it pops up this thing and then you got your friends
- 32:07there and they can be on video or just audio kind of like I guess Xbox Live
- 32:12parties and or whatever PlayStation is the same thing. Have they fixed their
- 32:15online though? Well, in what sense? Like cuz it they
- 32:21must have done something because in order for you to have friends added I mean you stuffed
- 32:28his friend codes on the Switch. I actually haven't done it on the Switch
- 32:31at all. I think I haven't done it on Switch. But I remember last time I
- 32:35remember people complaining that you had to like use your phone to have voice
- 32:38chat with people. So, have they now fixed to do that anymore? Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:43Yeah. No, no. It's all on the console. It's got uh a mic in it. It's got a
- 32:47camera that you can set up. Um so,
- 32:52it looks cool. Mhm. Yep. And they've included um game play based on the
- 32:58camera and stuff like I guess kind of like the was the Xbox one um the
- 33:04connect. Yeah. But I think it'll work better with
- 33:09the with Nintendo especially with like their controllers as well. I think they
- 33:13can integrate that a lot more. Oh yeah, they are mice. You can use the controllers as a
- 33:19mouse on the side. That's cool. Yeah. Uh GameCube games coming. Um, in the retro
- 33:26console thing, you could you could start Luigi's Mansion from the start again.
- 33:30Yes, we played the first one finally. Uh, it's getting something that Luke's
- 33:34wanted for a long time. Looks like we're getting that first on Switch, too. This
- 33:38actually gives me a lot of hope, though. Cuz it finally means What do you mean it
- 33:44shouldn't? Well, unless you buy the Switch, it doesn't mean it's coming to Xbox. Yeah,
- 33:49you can get a Switch, too. This finally Final Fantasy 7 remake. We haven't said
- 33:53what it is. which I've been dying to play, but I refuse to get a PlayStation for it cuz
- 33:58I'll never play it. You know what we should do? It means that we should buy
- 34:01one PlayStation and share it. We already Matt has one
- 34:06cuz I also Well, okay. Well, then it's my turn, Matt. You said it because I
- 34:11would like to play the [ __ ] Silent Hill 2 remake that I can't play on my
- 34:15Xbox. Have you played that? Cuz if you've got a [ __ ] PS5 and you haven't
- 34:20played that, what's wrong with you? The reason why until Luke reminded me
- 34:24that I had one, I forgot. Yes, I don't play games in the lounge room
- 34:29anymore. But no, the thing that excites me about this is it means that Sony
- 34:33don't have the exclusive exclusive rights anymore. So, it means they might
- 34:37be backing off on that a little bit cuz that's the only reason is Sony's just
- 34:42been giving them more money to keep it exclusive. Yeah, cuz they're dicks.
- 34:48Well, maybe they're like, "Well, the Nintendo is not a threat, so we'll let
- 34:52them have it. Just let Luke play it."
- 34:57No, I think that I think that is actually what they discussed. They're
- 35:00like, "Do we want Luke to play this game?" And they were like, "No." Like,
- 35:03they're getting like, "Fuck that guy." Cuz remember, they've broken it up into
- 35:07bits. Like, they're up to the third part of it. And they haven't even released
- 35:10the first one on Xbox. It's just mean. Yeah. And it was it was meant to be they said
- 35:16at launch they said exclusive for a year but it's been a year. Yeah, I think so.
- 35:20No, I don't think they never actually announced it at all. They didn't just
- 35:25said that. Yeah, people said that and also at the same time that probably
- 35:28added future to fire is remember Microsoft also accidentally let Sleeper
- 35:33promo thing when they had it. That's right. Yeah, I think that upset them.
- 35:36Yeah. Yes. And then they've just been stopping it ever since.
- 35:43Well, that's that's a launch title. Okay. So, you're saying Yeah. You're
- 35:47saying you won't get a Switch 2 despite that being one of your favorite games
- 35:51and being exclusive to this console. The problem is is I won't play it cuz I
- 35:57don't get achievements. I can't play it. I can't play games. So,
- 36:02you'll be you'll be pre-ordering one, will you?
- 36:06Well, apparently not. Because I live in
- 36:10the United States of America. Mhm. And uh you mean the kingdom the kingdom of
- 36:16America? Yeah. And our president has decided that I'm not allowed to
- 36:19pre-order a message too because he's going to be they don't know how it's
- 36:23going to be. They don't know how much to charge for it because uh yeah, we put
- 36:30tariffing everything and uh a 40% tariff
- 36:34or something on Japan. What? So, what's
- 36:38Japan done to you? I mean, I'm not I'm not I'm obviously
- 36:45I'm not a financial expert. I'm not a political expert. As I understand it,
- 36:49the pitch for this is that these are reciprocal tariffs because apparently the rest of the
- 36:55world's ripping us off. So now we're I I don't I don't Well, I mean, I've
- 37:02heard that it's kind of I get it, but
- 37:06I've heard that tariffs are a good tool
- 37:10within a framework of crony capitalism
- 37:13to give people tariff exemptions. if they do a little something for you.
- 37:20Right. So, Japan, I'm not sure what you're suggesting there, Dan. Unless,
- 37:24yeah, unless you suck America off.
- 37:29Figure out a way to get Japan to suck America off because I got an email the
- 37:35other day from um Steve Jackson Games, who you'll be familiar with, I assume,
- 37:39from um Munchkin. And Oh, yes. I literally got an email from Steve
- 37:43Jackson Games saying, "Guys, heads up. We're have we're going we will be
- 37:49increasing our prices if this happens. And when I say increasing our prices, a
- 37:53$20 game will be like 30 possibly $40.
- 37:56Yeah. Based on what we're seeing because the the things that we get made in
- 38:02China, in particular, China we got very big tariffs on. Um the dice, game
- 38:08pieces, printing, that kind of stuff that it can't be done in America. No one
- 38:12will do it. It makes no sense. Oh, there's no infrastructure for it. You'd
- 38:16have to do them as like individual. Yeah, but that's what I'm even looking
- 38:19at. And they're going to build the infrastructure for it. It's not building
- 38:22consoles and stuff like with the Switch. It doesn't make financial sense for them
- 38:27to set up different ones in different countries to make it. It's and it got me
- 38:31thinking like it does raise interesting questions about like well why can China
- 38:35do it so cheap? There's some not good reasons really to be honest because of
- 38:39you know forced lab and all that kind of stuff. Don't kid yourself. That's the
- 38:43reason Matt. What? Exactly. Like I'm not Yeah, that's not But it just got me
- 38:48thinking about it. Trump is a real altruist. He's he's really taxing these
- 38:53guys to make them accountable for Exactly. Yeah. But that's But the point
- 38:58the the most important thing about all this is that Nintendo pre-orders for the US because
- 39:04they don't know how much to charge us for it now. Yeah. So, it was going to be
- 39:09500 bucks with Mario Kart. Now 500 US.
- 39:15Okay. So what? Hold on. Because my maths doesn't Same price as my Xbox Series X.
- 39:19Oh wow. So cuz I Yeah. Where you can get uh for 700. We can get the console by
- 39:25itself. Yeah. I think it's $450 here with just the console. So which is
- 39:30actually what I paid for my Series X technically cuz I did that thing through
- 39:34Walmart that for some reason was $50 less. And what did you say it was for
- 39:38us, Luke? 700. Uh $6.99. 700. Yeah. That's pretty comparable. That's pretty
- 39:44comparable. I can't remember what I paid for my OLED switch.
- 39:48I remember I paid I think it was 300 or 350. This doesn't have OLED. Just for
- 39:52the record, this doesn't have OLED, which is interesting cuz it will have
- 39:57worse battery and uh you know, less brightness like you know like the nice
- 40:03blacks and whatnot. Oh, but I have found out how much it is for
- 40:08the Mario bundle. $769 for the console and the game. Okay.
- 40:14Right. I mean, that is cheaper than buying it and then buying $130 worth of
- 40:19Mario on its own. So, that's Yeah, if you're ever going to get it, you
- 40:25better get the bundle. But that doesn't or something, does it? You It's
- 40:31not a Mario version of the No, I think it's just a And here's the annoying
- 40:35thing. This is one of the things that you need to pre-order. Like you don't
- 40:38need to pre-order much in the gaming world anymore, but a console is one of
- 40:42them. I've expressed my interest in the pre-order, which is how they're doing
- 40:45it, but now I just don't know when that's going to happen. I know in
- 40:49Australia even putting EB games is putting it behind a payw wall. You have
- 40:53to be an EB Plus member to even be able to pre-order it now. Really? To try and
- 40:58make more money. Well, uh there's an article in here too
- 41:05just about the tariffs and whatnot. it's going to affect um people are focusing
- 41:08on the Switch too obviously because it's the biggest thing that was instantly
- 41:12affected and people noticed it but the ESA has said the whole game industry
- 41:18will be affected by this because there's just so many bits and pieces that go
- 41:23into games like even people games like you guys would potentially be affected
- 41:29by this because games get developed here and it's like change anywhere the knock
- 41:35on effect will affect everyone. Yeah. So, yeah, to see what happens. Pretty
- 41:42pretty nuts. Yeah.
- 41:47Yeah. And the like I said the calculation for the tariffs is a little
- 41:53bit a little bit it's like why why is it that number? I don't know that anybody
- 41:58actually knows why officially started or is this all just talk still? Um I think
- 42:03what's to be clear there's a big list of of specific tariffs but like everybody
- 42:08is getting a 10%. Every anything not manu
- 42:13and that and that's shut him down about
- 42:16the government shut him down. All right. Well we have an election
- 42:22coming up Luke but uh you and I thankfully are exempt from being
- 42:27uh bipartisan. We we just support whatever government's
- 42:32in power. Yep. Don't talk about it at all.
- 42:38Um, are you getting handed flies in the streets? Cuz I can't I can't walk down
- 42:42the street at the moment without getting handed off. I've had people knocking on
- 42:45our doors and stuff and but I'll just go vote next week and get it out the way
- 42:48and I'll be done. Yeah. All right. Wow. Matt's really gone. Oh,
- 42:53no. He's back. Thought we thought that the heard shut you down. Yeah. Shut you
- 42:58down. They heard me. Guess I'm doing a lot of damage just talking about this.
- 43:02The annoying thing I've seen, Mr. Ham. The annoying thing about the tariffs
- 43:08that I'm seeing is a lot of people don't actually understand them. I don't fully
- 43:12understand them. I don't fully understand, but I know it means things
- 43:15are going to cost more. And I've seen some people go, it's a deterrent. It
- 43:20means right more than well so it it actually technically only affects
- 43:25businesses in the US. What it means is if I want to buy something from
- 43:28overseas, I have to pay a tax. It's a it's a tax, right? So So for example, I
- 43:35think it's is it 30 something% on Japan? So if I want to buy a Switch 2, say I'm
- 43:39GameStop, I want to import a Switch 2, just one for some reason. And then
- 43:44Nintendo's like, for you that's 400 bucks. Well, now I've got to pay the
- 43:48$400 and then when it gets here, I've also got to pay the government $400.
- 43:55That's how it works. And it's I think it's supposed to be
- 44:01incentivizing making I'll buy the American handheld.
- 44:07The Switch 2 will not be made here. Yeah, we don't have the facilities to
- 44:10do. I've seen some people go I've seen some people I've seen some business like
- 44:14due to the tariffs we're not going to be able to stock this anymore and people go
- 44:17oh you stupid you should just charge the extra 25% and you'll be making lots of
- 44:22money so I was like no we don't make any
- 44:25money and you're not going to pay any% point where you were paying the tariff
- 44:32and recompensating us for it there is some confusion about cuz I know people
- 44:37particularly at first were like well ch your China or Japan will be paying us a
- 44:41bunch of money. It's like no, they're not paying anything. Yeah. They'll pay
- 44:46in that they'll have less customers here supposedly. That's how they'll pay in a
- 44:52sense. Yeah. Yeah. So, it's Yeah. It's way more complicated than than that.
- 44:58Anyway, nothing to do about it. Those make those Make America Great hats
- 45:02again. Maybe this is going to be more expensive. Maybe it's a great idea. Only
- 45:06time will tell. Yeah. Yeah. You never
- 45:10know. You hear that? It's a great idea.
- 45:13Okay. Let me finish the show. Let you return from your trip to Mexico.
- 45:20That's right. Yeah. Hey, I'm a citizen. I'm all good for
- 45:25now. For now. They're only only stopping non-citizens from coming in.
- 45:32Yeah. Unless you're a child, but your parents weren't. And
- 45:36then in which case your citizenship is suddenly questionable.
- 45:40Yeah, that has that has been floated from what I hear. But we'll see.
- 45:46I don't like the world at the moment. Nothing I can do about it. Let's talk
- 45:49about something fun and exciting and also that pisses me off at the same time.
- 45:54Okay. We finally get to get We finally get to see a movie. Oh yeah, a movie.
- 46:01That was remember it's going to be a tax write off and we were calling [ __ ]
- 46:05on how this could be a tax write off for a fully completed movie ready to sell
- 46:10movie and I think the governor of California called [ __ ] on it as
- 46:14well. Yeah, I think a lot of people did like how could you do all this and then
- 46:17just go we can't sell it for as much as we want. We're still going to get our
- 46:21money back but we're not going to make as much profit so it's
- 46:24better on tax. I thought they actually did throw it in the bin.
- 46:29They did. No, but they they wrote it off which
- 46:34means I think although the story was that they had already written it off
- 46:39which meant you can't go back on that you can't benefit out of it. But
- 46:44obviously that's not the case cuz Coyote
- 46:46versus Acme has been sold to someone who
- 46:51will be distributing it like a company. So we'll get to see it. Yep. And I think
- 46:56I actually might go to movies for this. If we don't, then we've got no one to
- 47:01blame but ourselves. Right. That's right. Yeah. They'll be proven right if
- 47:06nobody goes to Warner Brothers bought it. Who did this start with? Wait, they
- 47:10they would have No, they they made it, didn't they? I thought they made it.
- 47:15Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Ketchup Entertainment. Excuse me. Yeah. They Yeah. Warner
- 47:18Brothers has reported completed the sale, right? Yeah. Okay. So, this goes
- 47:23hand inhand with there was a couple articles from weeks ago that they
- 47:27weren't super interesting, but combined with this, I guess it makes sense to
- 47:29just mention that um Max HBO Max is owned by Warner Brothers and they have
- 47:36removed all the Looney Tunes randomly from it. And this is another case of
- 47:40it's like what does it cost you money to just have things on there for people to
- 47:43watch? Like don't you want people to have things to watch on there? Well, no.
- 47:47I don't understand that. I think it's they've maybe sold it along with this.
- 47:52Maybe that could be. Maybe. I haven't heard that, but the other thing is they're
- 47:59bulldozing the building where they made all the Looney Tunes and it's just like
- 48:03I mean I understand. Yeah, exactly. I maybe they need the the land or
- 48:07whatever. But it's just as a as a combination of things. It's just like
- 48:10why you [ __ ] hate Looney Tunes so much, Warner Brothers? Especially when
- 48:14they they made you you've been investing money into them, then all of a sudden
- 48:19you've just gone nut dead. [ __ ] it. [ __ ] you, Bugs Bunny. Yeah.
- 48:26Yeah. Weird. But uh yeah, Cody versus Acne. Yeah, I do want to see this
- 48:31because actually like Warner the Warner Brothers Looney Tunes were always there
- 48:35during our childhood growing up. More than Disney to be honest in Australia. I
- 48:40would say Looney Tunes way more than Disney. Oh, like the Disney movies were
- 48:44prominent, but the Disney cartoons Mickey Mouse. What is that? What are
- 48:49they in? We knew we knew who Mickey Mouse was, but it wasn't there weren't
- 48:52cartoons of Mickey Mouse on like we didn't have the Mickey Mouse Club and
- 48:55stuff like that. Like, we didn't have that type of stuff. Tunes was on every
- 48:59day. Every day. Every [ __ ] day. Yeah. And then Animaniacs, which is [ __ ]
- 49:03great. That's amazing, right? But the thing about this, like, everyone who saw
- 49:07this movie said it's a great movie. Yeah. So yeah, this is why and actually
- 49:13I actually quite like is it Will Forte?
- 49:15That's Will John Center. Yeah.
- 49:21Your current favorite Coyote. Is that his name? Wy Coyote. That that actor.
- 49:25Yeah. No. You think of Noah Wy from Yeah. No Wy from um Parks of Silicon
- 49:32Valley. Yes. Oh, we've got some top news in the
- 49:36after party. Oh, we do. Yeah. I wonder if they did actually
- 49:40write it off or not cuz I pirates of Silicon Valley, isn't it? And Michael
- 49:46Hall as uh That's cor that's right. Yeah. Who's in the new season? That's a
- 49:51good movie. Oh, is he? Okay. He's funny because he was always the nerdy kid when
- 49:56he was a kid and then he became a really big teenager and so then he played the
- 50:00bully. You know what I mean? Like very few people have made that transition.
- 50:05Yeah. Normally does not go that way. Yeah. Yeah, like if you watch if you
- 50:08watched um if you watched uh National Ampoon's Vacation and then you watched
- 50:13Edward Scissor Hand straight after it be like [ __ ] the nerdy kid from this is
- 50:17the bully from this. Yeah, it is him in Reacher. I don't know
- 50:21why I doubted myself. It is him in season 3 apparently. What's What's the
- 50:25actor in in Reacher, Matt? I know you know Alan Richardson gets Yeah, he gets more and
- 50:32more nude in each uh in each season, I've been told. Does he? Yeah, he's in
- 50:38his undies a bit in season 3. The main characties apparently by season. They're
- 50:43just showing everything. They're just like, "Yeah, I mean, that's there for,
- 50:46isn't it? I wouldn't even own clothes if that's what my body looked like. We
- 50:50cover this up. I'd live. Why would we hide this guy if we're not going to show
- 50:54him off?" Yeah. Yeah.
- 51:00Um, what else have we got in here? Quite a bit this week, actually. A lot.
- 51:06Oh, movie stuff. By the way, one thing I was I was this this came out of nowhere
- 51:11and I actually don't know. This is what the headline has said and I is this
- 51:15true. The new James Bond movie is
- 51:19filming in London right now. That took took me by surprise. The I've seen it
- 51:25said that it's in production, which doesn't necessarily mean
- 51:28filming, but this says filming and we don't know who's playing Vong. Yeah,
- 51:35like that's a so cuz you
- 51:38you first the new James Bond film has begun filming in London all while the
- 51:45identity of Mr. Bond remains a tightly held secret. I mean cuz I I would have
- 51:49seen we're going to know soon enough. If they're filming it, someone's going to
- 51:52say something. But also, I understand keeping the raps on production,
- 51:58maybe even teasing that they aren't going to tell us who it is yet, but they
- 52:03haven't even announced that they picked someone that they are keeping secret.
- 52:08It's someone it's someone controversive and they don't want to announce it now
- 52:12cuz it's just going to be people [ __ ] on them.
- 52:17They are both in London getting started and couldn't be here tonight. I actually
- 52:21don't. I mean, I know this this article says it's filming, but I don't think
- 52:27it's filming. It is. I think it's people are gathering. Yeah. For pre-production.
- 52:31Yeah. Yeah. I think it's a misunderstanding. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Cuz
- 52:37I I could the like I said, the headline literally says filming. I was like,
- 52:40what? They will like how did this not leak? Even if they don't tell us who it
- 52:46is, they'll still tell us that they picked someone surely. Yeah. You can
- 52:50stop speculating. We picked someone. I'm trying also to stay very open-minded
- 52:55because if you recall, everyone hated Daniel Craig at that reveal. Everyone
- 53:01was like, "This guy, the guy guy from Layer Cake, the guy from [ __ ] Tomb
- 53:05Raider, like and then he [ __ ] showed
- 53:09us." So yeah. So maybe a trans woman will be a good
- 53:15James Bond. Yeah. A trans woman off. That's what the That's what people are
- 53:20scared of apparently. Well, I remember when No Time To Die came out and
- 53:23everyone was like 7 is going to played by a woman of color and everyone was
- 53:27like, "Fucking what?" It's like, "No, he gets fired. They assigned that number to
- 53:32a different agent. Calm the [ __ ] down." You just reminded me of something that I
- 53:37wanted to put in here and I completely forgot. This is a This is a sort of
- 53:42segue, right? Can we talk about Snow White? Yes. Yeah. Go for it. Please.
- 53:46Please. Let's talk about it. Yeah, there's a couple of things I wanted to
- 53:49mention about it. Um, this the main one, right, that that
- 53:54I get so confused about cuz I see people arguing about it like, hang on a minute,
- 53:59what is the full title of the story of Snow White? What is Snow White and the
- 54:02Seven Dwarfs? In that context, what is a dwarf?
- 54:09Um, well, in the in the in the original film, in the context of the story of
- 54:13Snow White. Yeah. Well, there seven small miners
- 54:18who live. Okay, let me be more specific. Like dwarfs.
- 54:24Is it Snow White and the seven humans with dwarfism? It's not seven peaceful
- 54:29people with dwarfism. It's seven people a lot of people of the fantasy creature
- 54:34dwarf that that correct me if I'm wrong. The condition is named after not the
- 54:40other way around. Or is it that might not be true, but that's my thought. But
- 54:44also like they work in a mind like just like Tolken's dwarves. Like it's
- 54:49literally I'm surprised sue them. Like it's a fantasy creature. Yeah. Yeah.
- 54:55Yeah. I've seen these people arguing about this you people woke blah blah
- 55:00blah stuff and and some of it silly some of it. The one that's most confusing to
- 55:03me is that these people seem to agree on
- 55:06the fact that that that that it's seven
- 55:11humans with dwarf with dwarfism. And I was like that that's not what it is. And
- 55:16then and then they having this argument about how like there was someone
- 55:20annoyed, right? This annoyed somebody that in this movie they're not any of
- 55:24those things. They're like just fantasy creatures. They don't say dwarf or
- 55:28anything like that. They're just different kinds of creatures. Look at
- 55:31her. But then there's no prince charming. Yeah. Uh it's this guy
- 55:35Jonathan because you know kids these days don't do Prince
- 55:41princess come and save me kind of thing. Like fair enough whatever. It's a modern
- 55:44film. Who cares? But he's got a band of merry men. One of whom is a little guy
- 55:50some actor from Game of Thrones like and and that annoyed them because they were
- 55:54like dwarf in there. You know there's one right there. He
- 55:59hasn't got six friends. Ask him. Yeah. So, this is why you just you're not
- 56:04gonna win with At one point I was like, "Hang on a
- 56:09minute." Like, people want to be upset. That's what they want to be. Look, I'm
- 56:15not saying this is a good movie. This might be a [ __ ] movie, but it's not a
- 56:18[ __ ] movie for all the reason at the end of the day. Yeah. Yeah. And cuz there's
- 56:21a whole bunch of stuff like that. Yeah. the the plot of this the plot of this
- 56:26movie is not the plot of the old movie. So, it's kind of I know before it came
- 56:32out people were like, well, like for example, like she's not she's not white
- 56:36as snow. She's like a Latina. And then people were like, but then in this in
- 56:41this movie it's not her skin color that is why she's called Snow White. It's cuz
- 56:45she's born during a blizzard apparently. And it's like, okay, if you don't like
- 56:48that, fine. But like that just means that the criticism you had is actually
- 56:53invalid. Yes. Yeah. But also like I we actually watched the live action
- 56:58Cinderella today earlier today, right? It's a 2-hour long movie based on like a
- 57:0450inute cartoon from the 50s, right? You have to put more information in. And
- 57:10audiences are more sophisticated now anyway. You can't just say we're going
- 57:13to call this baby Snow White because she's white. And it's like we're all
- 57:17white, mate. Like you you can't just say that. Yeah. Come up with a reason. The
- 57:24song someday my prince will come isn't in it and he's not a prince and he
- 57:27doesn't and this it's like but girl young girls these days don't give a [ __ ]
- 57:32about any of that. Like that's not what makes sense that they got rid of the
- 57:37rapy undertones of Snow White. That's what you're upset about. And they're
- 57:42[ __ ] angry because everyone everyone keeps saying, "Oh, Rachel Ziegler is
- 57:47talking down this movie, saying it's awful." No, no, no. All the clips of her
- 57:51saying bad things are about the one from the 30s. She's like, she kisses he
- 57:56kisses her while she's asleep. He doesn't know he's bringing her out of a
- 57:59curse. That's creepy, right? Yes. Because she didn't grow up kind of with
- 58:05that kind that that sto that kind of story. She's a younger person. She
- 58:11watched this because weird cast. Go and watch the old one. And she was like,
- 58:16"Yeah, I'm not going to do mine like that cuz times have changed and those
- 58:20stories aren't relevant to kids anymore." Like in We watched that
- 58:24recently, too. We uh the original. I mean, they're only that, you know,
- 58:28available on TV. Um and it's a weird movie because actually it's very
- 58:33disjointed. There's no context for who that evil queen is. I don't even think
- 58:38they say it's the stepmother or something. It's just there's they don't
- 58:41even show the outside of where she lives. She's just this evil character
- 58:45talking to a mirror and someone is saying Snow White's beautiful so she's
- 58:49like [ __ ] kill her then. Like and then it just cuts to Snow White living
- 58:54with dwarves.
- 58:56Yeah. Yeah. Humans. What I'm say Yeah.
- 59:01Yeah. Where the hole for the mine is too small that they're like we can only I
- 59:05hope I'm not being offensive by saying that. I actually don't know what the the
- 59:08terminology is. I'm just trying to be clear about the distinction that I'm
- 59:11making. I feel like Yeah. And I don't know for certain the chicken or the egg
- 59:16scenario, but I do know that in the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, she
- 59:20doesn't go, "What a coincidence. You're all suffering from dwarfism." She just
- 59:24knows that there's a like it it could be seven elves because they were saying,
- 59:28"Oh, you know, in that movie just they've been cast out." No, no, I'm
- 59:32pretty sure that's not the plot of that. I think No. Yeah. Cast out. They're
- 59:36miners. Yeah. They got a job. Yeah, but that's the only job they can get because
- 59:41And I was like, "No, no, no, no. I think you mate. There's diamonds falling out
- 59:45of their pockets, mate. They I do not think that is what the the plot of the
- 59:49original Snow White and the Seven Dwars." And you know what? Even if there
- 59:53is they didn't Nobody thought that far ahead. Okay. Right. It's it's it's the
- 59:59Hobbit doors, it's not Game of Thrones doors. Correct. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:00:04Yeah. And cuz then it got me thinking too, you know, people were mad about
- 1:00:09um the other Snow White movie, the one
- 1:00:12where they cast like like normal normal sized, you know what I mean? Yeah. And
- 1:00:18then and then shrank them down and then it was the opposite. They they hired
- 1:00:22dwarf actors and shot put people's faces over those. Yeah. All right. All right.
- 1:00:28That makes more sense because Okay. Yeah. I can Okay, that that is that
- 1:00:31one's still like if you're going to hire you shouldn't have done that. That's the
- 1:00:34one that Dinklage had a problem with. Yeah. Yeah, it makes sense. Then it got
- 1:00:38me thinking were people mad about The Hobbit or and and Lord of the Rings, you
- 1:00:43know, the Peter Jackson ones because But again, those are just normal actors with
- 1:00:47dwarfism. That's a racist. I know. I know. That's why I was so surprised that
- 1:00:54but they were all agreed. Why didn't you get real [ __ ] trees to play the ants?
- 1:00:58Mhm. There's no tree that could have played Treebeard. Yeah. So, yeah. Shape
- 1:01:03of water. That should have been a real fish, man. Doug Jones needs to be
- 1:01:06cancelled. Yeah. Sorry. Is is is [ __ ] Ian Mckllum a wizard? No. Okay. Well,
- 1:01:12[ __ ] cancelled. Yeah. No, you can't win with the internet. They just like to
- 1:01:17be upset no matter what you do. And this is the reason why I keep saying
- 1:01:20diversity needs to be a thing because if the second you cast anyone and the
- 1:01:25internet's already complaining, that's a problem. Before they even know if
- 1:01:30they're a good actor or anything, they're already complaining. That's the
- 1:01:34problem. And to be clear, I've not seen this movie. I'm not going to see this
- 1:01:38movie. I don't care. And from what I hear, it is a bad movie. So I'm not
- 1:01:43suggesting that it's not. My sister texted me not. She doesn't know about
- 1:01:47any of this. She just knows there's a new movie out called Snow White. She's
- 1:01:52got two daughters. They went to see Snow White. She texted me straight after and
- 1:01:55goes, "You should go and see Snow White. It's really fun. My girls loved it." And
- 1:01:59I went, "Okay, cool. No, not be angry about it." There's no dwarves in her D.
- 1:02:06No one. Here's the thing. I don't She's not white. He doesn't play a dwarf.
- 1:02:12Pretend he's a normal person. But but apparently those those woodsmen
- 1:02:16or whatever they are, the band of merry men, there's seven of them and people
- 1:02:20are really confused by that as well. That's I heard that too and I was like
- 1:02:24that is a weird thing to do. It it is what are you doing over there? Yeah, but
- 1:02:28whatever. It just it all just seems so silly to me. But I was like why do you
- 1:02:34care about any of this [ __ ] But here's here's the thing though. People do press
- 1:02:38for movies. They've always always done this, right?
- 1:02:44But now we're saturated with it. And I think it's too much. And I think this
- 1:02:49proves it because I, for all I know, Rachel Ziggler is a lovely girl. She's
- 1:02:5320 [ __ ] years old, mate. Like, what do you expect to say? But yeah, but I
- 1:02:57don't like her. Like, when I see her, I'm like, "Oh, yeah. She seems a bit
- 1:03:01[ __ ] crazy and in your face because you of her or what?" Well, here's But
- 1:03:06that's right. But the same thing happened with um the same thing happened
- 1:03:10with Star Wars Acolyte where they put a whole bunch of 20-year-olds on TV every
- 1:03:14[ __ ] day. The same thing happened with Wicked before it came out where
- 1:03:18they just put those people on TV every day asking them questions and questions
- 1:03:22and questions until they said something stupid and then that's all you heard
- 1:03:26about for a week, right? And then I went to see Wicked thinking, "Fuck, man. Have
- 1:03:30they really made this whole movie about the black experience?" They didn't. It's
- 1:03:35a Wicked witch, right? Do you know what I mean? Like, settle the [ __ ] down,
- 1:03:38people. I think we're giving these people too much screen time now away
- 1:03:43from the actual movie. Just let's just cut that [ __ ] and watch the movie.
- 1:03:49Dan, cancelled. Yeah, Dan canled. I'll say this. It took me a minute watching
- 1:03:55playing Avowed. Um, in Australia there are no bears. You know, there's the
- 1:04:00koala bear. Oh, I think you'll find there are bears. Are there bears? Yes,
- 1:04:05there are bears in Australia. Yes. What bears? There are gay men in Australia.
- 1:04:10Fair enough. But
- 1:04:12um there's bears in about
- 1:04:17I was attacked by a young black bear.
- 1:04:22And at first I was like, "No need to say the race of the bear." And I was like,
- 1:04:27"The black bear is a thing." Yes. But yeah, there's a black bear and a brown
- 1:04:34bear, right? And a koala bear or they wander they wander around near my house.
- 1:04:39There was I think I seen that that's someone's um doorbell camera footage
- 1:04:44when there was a bear on the street behind me. Mhm. Yeah. Is it black?
- 1:04:48That's the ones in Vermont, too. The black you run from that one. Are black
- 1:04:51the only ones that break into people's houses? Cuz that would be a just a
- 1:04:54terrible coincidence, wouldn't it? I mean, they I think they're just
- 1:04:59looking for food, mate. But I don't go wherever the food is. Between the the
- 1:05:04black and the brown bear, one you're meant to run from and the other you're
- 1:05:06meant or meant to get big and try and threaten. The other you meant to power
- 1:05:11from back if it's brown. Lay down. Shoot it down. Lay down. Yeah, something like
- 1:05:17that. Or is that poop? Again, we're just talking about bears. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:05:23If it's white or all right. Yeah. No, polar bears are vicious when it
- 1:05:30comes to bears. I was in the Arctic and we there was a stuffed polar bear in the
- 1:05:35lobby of the hotel. It's 3 m tall and I'm like that one. That's right. It was
- 1:05:41terrifying. Even the stuffed ones will [ __ ] saw one from far enough away
- 1:05:44that it was about the size of a grain of rice on the horizon and they're like,
- 1:05:48"Oh yeah, we need to go.
- 1:05:53It's rapidly getting larger." Yeah. If it's the size of a grape, you're
- 1:05:58already dead.
- 1:06:06Uh, mate, we got a lot for the after party. We got a lot. Oh, we do. We do.
- 1:06:10The after party. The after party is Why' you say like
- 1:06:15somehow it's my fault that there's Well, no. I said both me and Matt spoke over
- 1:06:19each other. What's the after party? So, it becomes You have to explain it. Oh,
- 1:06:22okay. Sure. What's the after party, Dan? What's Yeah, always going on about the
- 1:06:27after party. Fine. Okay. Well, the after party is a all personal project of mine
- 1:06:31that I've roped Luke and Matt into participating in against their own
- 1:06:35better judgment. Um where I and occasionally them, I suppose, um continue
- 1:06:41talking. Yeah. Um uh it will cost you though. It will cost
- 1:06:47you a subscription on Patreon. Yeah. It'll cost you, mate. It cost more than
- 1:06:52it cost me. Let's be fair. Yeah, that is true. Uh, head over to
- 1:06:59patreon.com/multiplegasm or multiplers.com and just follow the
- 1:07:03links. Sign up for $5 a month and you can get the other half of this show. Um,
- 1:07:08there are other tiers. Uh, but that's the one that gets you in. That's the key
- 1:07:13to the door of the after party. The after party. And then there's a tier
- 1:07:16where you just ask Luke to do stuff and give him money and he won't do it. He
- 1:07:21won't follow through. Hang on a minute. He's just now he's like, "No, no. I
